- 5:12Speaker 2: And you.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Well, hello, hello there, thank you for joining me for
- 5:32Speaker 1: another episode of Let's Talk about it. I am your host,
- 5:36Speaker 1: Shenett Johnson on today, We're just gonna talk. I don't
- 5:44Speaker 1: know what we're gonna talk about, but we just gonna talk.
- 5:49Speaker 1: I have my camera off today because and not too
- 5:56Speaker 1: long ago, got our work in our dose and Angela
- 6:02Speaker 1: had to call me. So we're just want to talk.
- 6:08Speaker 1: And last week, let's see, I believe it was a
- 6:18Speaker 1: week ago, I flew in to Denver to see my husband,
- 6:24Speaker 1: who is currently incarcerated on a roomful conviction that occurred
- 6:34Speaker 1: seventeen years. July twenty firsts mark seventeen years that he
- 6:42Speaker 1: has been incarcerated wrongfully. Even though we only being married
- 6:54Speaker 1: in twenty twenty got married in twenty twenty two, I
- 6:59Speaker 1: wasn't there the whole in the beginning. We didn't get
- 7:05Speaker 1: reconnected until June of twenty twenty two. And ever since
- 7:15Speaker 1: I was a child, I always had the passion for
- 7:28Speaker 1: injustice right and wrong. You know, could nobody tell me
- 7:34Speaker 1: nothing about someone in my family, a family member, because
- 7:44Speaker 1: I was going to stand by them no matter what.
- 7:50Speaker 1: That's how passionate, passionate it was for you know, it
- 7:55Speaker 1: was for me. And then I graduated in eighty nine
- 8:03Speaker 1: and I went to college and my major was criminal justice.
- 8:13Speaker 1: That always been a part of my life. Even though
- 8:18Speaker 1: I didn't finish criminal Justice, finished my course because you know,
- 8:26Speaker 1: life happens, and I became a commercial driver. So fast
- 8:35Speaker 1: forwarded until twenty twenty one when I've resigned from my
- 8:44Speaker 1: job to care for my son. I was. I worked
- 8:51Speaker 1: for Metro and I resigned from Metro to care for
- 8:55Speaker 1: my son as he had congested heart failure. I was
- 9:02Speaker 1: able to spend a year and some months with him.
- 9:11Speaker 1: I didn't know that he was gonna transition in twenty
- 9:16Speaker 1: twenty three, and I thank God for allowing me to
- 9:27Speaker 1: be able to spend the last year in a couple
- 9:32Speaker 1: of months with him. And during that time, God has
- 9:41Speaker 1: started setting putting people in my life and I didn't know.
- 9:45Speaker 1: First he brung Wine back in my life and we started,
- 9:51Speaker 1: you know, I started applicating on his behalf, you know,
- 9:55Speaker 1: just reaching out to people. And then I've seen a
- 10:00Speaker 1: Facebook posts and I answered it and it was nobody
- 10:07Speaker 1: but Angela, and Angela invited me to come on her
- 10:14Speaker 1: show in which was supposed to take place in November.
- 10:20Speaker 1: I believe it was after Thanksgiving or a little before Thanksgiving,
- 10:25Speaker 1: and little did I know November tenth, I will find
- 10:32Speaker 1: my son on Responsive in his room. So instead of
- 10:40Speaker 1: me canceling the show, I still went on that show
- 10:51Speaker 1: and used my voice to bring awareness to what was
- 10:56Speaker 1: going on in Why's case while yet I was preparing
- 11:04Speaker 1: to lay my son to rest. After I laid my
- 11:10Speaker 1: son to rest, Angela posted I seen another post for
- 11:16Speaker 1: Angela looking for someone to fill a slot for podcasting,
- 11:26Speaker 1: and I talked it over to one, talked it over
- 11:29Speaker 1: with want and I said, you know, we need to
- 11:34Speaker 1: get your information out there. We need to get the case,
- 11:37Speaker 1: get your case out there, bring awareness to it. And
- 11:40Speaker 1: we talked about it and we you know, I was
- 11:44Speaker 1: going back and forth. Am I ready? Can I use
- 11:47Speaker 1: my voice to bring awareness to injustice, to put it
- 11:53Speaker 1: out there? Mainly just talk to him, just to get
- 11:57Speaker 1: out his case. I didn't know that this, you know,
- 12:07Speaker 1: this was going to cause me to keep going. His
- 12:10Speaker 1: case would cause me to keep going speaking out. But
- 12:17Speaker 1: November fifth, twenty twenty four, No, February fifth, twenty twenty fourth.
- 12:27Speaker 1: It's the first time I did a podcast by myself,
- 12:36Speaker 1: and I was so nervous, and to this day, I
- 12:41Speaker 1: still get nervous and I remember stumbling over my words
- 12:50Speaker 1: and trying to stay focused and everything. But Angela and
- 12:55Speaker 1: the other ladies, they they, you know, they they cheered
- 13:00Speaker 1: me on. They just motivated me to keep going, you know,
- 13:04Speaker 1: just keep going, don't give up, don't give up. And
- 13:07Speaker 1: so I got through that year speaking out, bringing talking
- 13:18Speaker 1: to men from Denver, from California, from Texas. I met
- 13:26Speaker 1: mister Legate Cornell. Oh my god, I met a Hope,
- 13:32Speaker 1: a lot of men and formed a relationship with them.
- 13:44Speaker 1: And they was like, Snett, we want you to speak
- 13:48Speaker 1: out on our behalf. We believe in you, We believe
- 13:51Speaker 1: in you. They believed in me, But guess what, I
- 14:00Speaker 1: didn't believe in myself. I didn't believe that I can
- 14:05Speaker 1: do it because I was stumbling over my words. I
- 14:11Speaker 1: wasn't I knew, I knew I can do it, but
- 14:15Speaker 1: it was just something that was inside of me that
- 14:22Speaker 1: I was scared of, and that was failure. I I
- 14:35Speaker 1: was afraid of failing that I couldn't get there, get
- 14:42Speaker 1: their messages out there. I couldn't be the voice that
- 14:46Speaker 1: they wanted me to be. And then I started letting
- 14:50Speaker 1: a lot of stuff consume me, and I was gonna
- 14:56Speaker 1: walk away because I wanted to have a powerful voice.
- 15:04Speaker 1: I wanted my voice to be heard. I wanted their
- 15:08Speaker 1: stories to live in people's minds when people go to sleep,
- 15:15Speaker 1: or when they thinking about the role for conviction about
- 15:20Speaker 1: these men, mister Legate, Earl Bryant, Wayn Johnson, Glenn Kemp,
- 15:33Speaker 1: the list goes on when they think about them, their names.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Just sit there and just ponder on you sitting in
- 15:48Speaker 1: jail wrongfully because somebody said something that you did and
- 15:54Speaker 1: you didn't. You miss birthdays, You miss birthdays, holidays, your
- 16:01Speaker 1: parents passed away, your aunties passed aways, uncles, children's passing away,
- 16:09Speaker 1: and you fighting for your life and nay depended on me.
- 16:23Speaker 1: They they had so much confidence in me to get
- 16:28Speaker 1: their messages out and they still do. They call me
- 16:33Speaker 1: and they be like, come on, Sis, you gotta you
- 16:35Speaker 1: gotta speak for Nobody else is going to speak for us.
- 16:44Speaker 1: I was talking to Angela yesterday and when she talked,
- 16:53Speaker 1: she has this powerful voice and she make you think,
- 17:04Speaker 1: and I had to think. I had to sit there
- 17:08Speaker 1: and I had to think. I had to reevaluate it,
- 17:11Speaker 1: like what do I really want? What do I really
- 17:17Speaker 1: want to do with let's talk about it. Do I
- 17:24Speaker 1: want to be the voice. Do I want to fight,
- 17:26Speaker 1: Do I want to keep going or what? And my
- 17:30Speaker 1: answer is yes, I do want to keep going. I
- 17:36Speaker 1: want to be that voice for the men and women
- 17:41Speaker 1: that are currently incarcerated in prison wrongfully. I want their
- 17:53Speaker 1: truth to be told. Currently we have in prison. I'm
- 18:10Speaker 1: gonna give you the exact number. Bear with me one moment,
- 18:20Speaker 1: let me get this together. Currently, it's an estimated. It's
- 18:28Speaker 1: estimated that forty six thousand, two two hundred and thirty
- 18:37Speaker 1: thousand men and women are in prison wrongfully and two
- 18:49Speaker 1: percent to the ten percent of their convictions are era.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Our air is and you are errors that people make.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Some are in prison for identity, identity. Identity people say, oh, yeah,
- 19:21Speaker 1: that was that person. But thirty five or forty years
- 19:27Speaker 1: down the line, it comes back, it wasn't that person.
- 19:38Speaker 1: DNA done proved over and over that some of these
- 19:43Speaker 1: men and women didn't commit the crime, didn't commit the
- 19:51Speaker 1: crime that they're currently in prison for. But yet and
- 20:00Speaker 1: still everybody go quiet. You don't wanna speak up on that.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Everybody speak up on I'm not gonna say everybody. Let
- 20:15Speaker 1: me rephrase that. People are I don't know if they're
- 20:19Speaker 1: afraid to speak up all injustice or if they have,
- 20:27Speaker 1: if they are, if they just don't care. Long is
- 20:32Speaker 1: somebody's serving the time for someone that that. Uh let
- 20:42Speaker 1: me get my words together. Uh, long as somebody is
- 20:46Speaker 1: sitting in prison for that crime, don't nobody care? Just
- 20:51Speaker 1: throw them away? Now we see see the men, well,
- 21:06Speaker 1: the young men going to prison at an early age.
- 21:12Speaker 1: I heard I believe it was a couple of months
- 21:15Speaker 1: ago where one governor or I forgot his title, but
- 21:25Speaker 1: he said that the ones that are in prison are
- 21:31Speaker 1: getting older, so they can't do the work. So they
- 21:36Speaker 1: taking the young ones in now to do the work.
- 21:44Speaker 1: When I was in Denver, my husband he waxed the floors.
- 21:55Speaker 1: They was having an audit where he's at. So they
- 22:01Speaker 1: would ask him, hey, you want to do the floors?
- 22:05Speaker 1: Can you wash the floor? Can you can you watch
- 22:09Speaker 1: the floors? So he would scrape up all that old wax,
- 22:14Speaker 1: and then they would come in him and another man
- 22:19Speaker 1: would come in and they will wax the floor. Something
- 22:22Speaker 1: that they can get thousands of dollars for mate, thousands
- 22:29Speaker 1: of dollars for doing it their own self. But you
- 22:33Speaker 1: know how much stay got paid? Nothing? Nothing, I seen
- 22:44Speaker 1: them floors. The floors look like they paid somebody to
- 22:51Speaker 1: come in there and do it. And they just didn't
- 22:56Speaker 1: do one building. They had them do probably two buildings.
- 23:07Speaker 1: And then they still asked them, They still told them,
- 23:10Speaker 1: asked them can they do another building? All because they
- 23:14Speaker 1: being audit so they getting free labor, free labor. You
- 23:27Speaker 1: got men in there that's sick and they don't care.
- 23:36Speaker 1: I had it's a man that's in there with my husband,
- 23:45Speaker 1: a spider biddy and the first time it's set up infection.
- 23:54Speaker 1: So they took him. They took him to a hospital.
- 23:57Speaker 1: We understand protocol and everything that you know, for the safety.
- 24:01Speaker 1: They can't tell the family what exact hospital they in,
- 24:07Speaker 1: but they don't call the family either to let them
- 24:12Speaker 1: know that they loved one is in the hospital and
- 24:15Speaker 1: that they fighting for their life or they had to
- 24:18Speaker 1: have surgery. Because he had to have surgery. And when
- 24:22Speaker 1: he came back, he had a vacuum on his leg.
- 24:25Speaker 1: They said his you know, the hole was big from
- 24:29Speaker 1: where they went down in there and they actually dug
- 24:32Speaker 1: too deep into his leg. He was there. I think
- 24:40Speaker 1: he was back for like a week. Then he got
- 24:44Speaker 1: sick again and they took him out and his sister
- 24:50Speaker 1: didn't know that he was in the hospital until they
- 24:56Speaker 1: called me and told me to get in contact with
- 24:59Speaker 1: his sister to let him let the family know that
- 25:02Speaker 1: he's in the hospital. Come to find out, they was
- 25:08Speaker 1: thinking that the affection she came back in the leg,
- 25:12Speaker 1: that the spider bity men. But it didn't. It came
- 25:17Speaker 1: he had an infection in the other leg and that
- 25:22Speaker 1: one almost took him out. It's so much stuff that's
- 25:36Speaker 1: going on behind that wall, and I'm applicating. I'm talking
- 25:48Speaker 1: to the ones that have loved ones that's currently incarcerated.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Check on your family, check on them, let them know
- 26:06Speaker 1: that you know you there. Some of the states have
- 26:11Speaker 1: free calls. Colorado just they cause us free now, California
- 26:18Speaker 1: calls being free. They on the tablets. You can just run.
- 26:22Speaker 1: You can send them a message on the tablet, just hey,
- 26:28Speaker 1: I'm thinking about you. Hey, we want to know if
- 26:30Speaker 1: you're still good or what. Check on them. That's all
- 26:40Speaker 1: we have to do. Check on your loved ones. You
- 26:43Speaker 1: don't know about the mental condition that's going about. The
- 26:46Speaker 1: mental A lot of people say, yeah, they put theirselfs
- 26:53Speaker 1: in there. Some of them did, some of them didn't
- 26:57Speaker 1: the system put them in there because they wrongfully and
- 27:01Speaker 1: they're fighting to get out. They fight, they have to
- 27:04Speaker 1: fight to get out compared to someone that did actually
- 27:08Speaker 1: did the crime. They get dates and they come home,
- 27:11Speaker 1: and they go out and they refend it and go
- 27:14Speaker 1: right back in. But you have men and women that's
- 27:20Speaker 1: fighting to come home. Does just give me that one chance,
- 27:23Speaker 1: and I will show you some of them are getting it,
- 27:31Speaker 1: getting a chance after twenty and thirty years. Tomorrow, Rory
- 27:44Speaker 1: Rory Atkins is finally getting release. And he been gone
- 27:58Speaker 1: for I believe they said thirty thirty five to forty years.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Thirty five or forty years tooken out of his life.
- 28:18Speaker 1: I see Angela, Hey, Angela, thankstionate.
- 28:25Speaker 13: So I was just looking at some stuff while you
- 28:29Speaker 13: were coughing, and I looked up black males under thirty
- 28:38Speaker 13: in prison and it just it just it's just mind bottling.
- 28:47Speaker 1: It seems that.
- 28:51Speaker 13: Of black male prisons and are in state and federal
- 28:56Speaker 13: facilities are aged.
- 28:58Speaker 2: Twenty nine or younger.
- 29:00Speaker 13: It said based on recent overall prison population, this represent
- 29:05Speaker 13: roughly eighty to ninety thousand individuals, and that is report
- 29:11Speaker 13: from the Bureau of Justice Statistics from that, it says
- 29:18Speaker 13: the US holds roughly one point two many people in
- 29:22Speaker 13: state and federal prisons. Black inmates make up thirty two
- 29:28Speaker 13: to thirty seven percent of total prison population. It says
- 29:36Speaker 13: that rome for conviction, black individuals account for more than
- 29:44Speaker 13: fifty three percent of all exonerations documented since nineteen eighty nine.
- 29:50Speaker 13: It said Black America are seven times more likely to
- 29:54Speaker 13: be wrongfully convicted of serious.
- 29:56Speaker 2: Crime than white America.
- 30:01Speaker 1: M And that's something they think about and everybody always say, well,
- 30:08Speaker 1: let me go back. People always say that's no, that's
- 30:13Speaker 1: not true, that race does not play a part of
- 30:18Speaker 1: certain things. And it does.
- 30:23Speaker 2: And that's just a few.
- 30:26Speaker 13: It goes on to say the disparity by criminal by
- 30:29Speaker 13: crime category. It's say the racial disparity and wrongful convictions
- 30:34Speaker 13: are most heavily concentrated in three major types of cases.
- 30:39Speaker 13: Number one drug drug cases. Innocent black people are nineteen
- 30:46Speaker 13: times more likely to be wrongful convicted of a drug
- 30:49Speaker 13: offense than white people, despite data showing both groups use
- 30:54Speaker 13: illegal substance at a similar rate, and that is a
- 30:59Speaker 13: statistic for the egal justice insenative. It says sexual assault,
- 31:05Speaker 13: black individuals are eight times more likely to be falsely
- 31:10Speaker 13: convicted of sexual assault. This is a largely driven by
- 31:16Speaker 13: cross racial eye witness mystic identification, particularly involving white victims
- 31:23Speaker 13: and black defendants. And this comes from the egal justice
- 31:27Speaker 13: insentative as well.
- 31:29Speaker 2: It says murder, Black.
- 31:31Speaker 13: America are seven point five times more likely to be
- 31:36Speaker 13: wrongfully convicted of murder if.
- 31:39Speaker 2: The victim in the case is white.
- 31:41Speaker 13: The risk of wrongful conviction for a black defendant escalates significant.
- 31:49Speaker 13: And this comes from the death penalty information.
- 31:54Speaker 2: And that's just the top three.
- 31:57Speaker 13: And that really when people say that race does not
- 32:03Speaker 13: play a part in it, and it's I'm gonna share this.
- 32:08Speaker 2: With you too for our listeners, for those that are
- 32:11Speaker 2: tuning in.
- 32:12Speaker 13: It says the core drivers of wrong conviction, It's say
- 32:17Speaker 13: several systematic phase contribute to the dispoorers this poor proportionate
- 32:23Speaker 13: rate of Black America that are falsely convicted. The number
- 32:29Speaker 13: one cause is official misconduct. That means either involving officers
- 32:37Speaker 13: or prosecuting prosecutor misconduct that can be from evidence, coercion.
- 32:46Speaker 13: It can be it can range from different things. The
- 32:51Speaker 13: number two racial profiling. Black communities are often profile. It
- 33:02Speaker 13: says black individuals at the very start of the legal pipeline.
- 33:08Speaker 2: They are targeted.
- 33:10Speaker 13: They are vigorously targeted policing and racial profiling within the
- 33:16Speaker 13: black communities to create an artificial over presentation of Black
- 33:24Speaker 13: individuals at the very start of the legal pipeline. And
- 33:28Speaker 13: that comes from the ssr n E Library. It says,
- 33:33Speaker 13: the lack of jury diversity, all white and non representative
- 33:40Speaker 13: juries are statistically more likely to apply apply racial stereotypes,
- 33:46Speaker 13: spend less time deliberating overlooking weaknesses and the prosecution evidence.
- 33:52Speaker 13: And this is data from the Innocent Project and Channet.
- 33:56Speaker 13: We just witnessed that with the Kamlo Anthony's case. We
- 34:01Speaker 13: just witnessed that we just went one in number three
- 34:07Speaker 13: and then the fourth one is plea bargain and pressure.
- 34:11Speaker 13: It says, due to the high cash bill and systematic
- 34:15Speaker 13: disadvantage and pre trial detention, innocent defendants frequently accept plea
- 34:21Speaker 13: deals simply to escape immediate incarceration to secure a shorter sentence.
- 34:29Speaker 2: Wow wow wow wow.
- 34:34Speaker 13: It says, on an average, innocent Black people spend thirteen
- 34:40Speaker 13: point eight years wrongfully in prison before being cleared, which
- 34:45Speaker 13: is roughly forty five percent longer than the time served
- 34:50Speaker 13: by innocent white individuals. It says in murder cases, significant
- 34:55Speaker 13: black exoneries weight and average of three years longer to
- 35:01Speaker 13: be freed, and they make up fifty six percent of
- 35:06Speaker 13: all death row.
- 35:07Speaker 2: Exoneries in the United States. Wow, wow, wow, wow. You
- 35:19Speaker 2: know there's so many people. And before I'm gonna.
- 35:26Speaker 13: Say twenty twenty, I really didn't know that this was
- 35:31Speaker 13: such a big problem because I wasn't somebody that really
- 35:36Speaker 13: did a whole lot of research, and I was one
- 35:40Speaker 13: of those people. If it wasn't the effect that my family,
- 35:43Speaker 13: then you know, I wouldn't diving into it.
- 35:46Speaker 2: But when I began to.
- 35:47Speaker 13: See that there were so many people just hearing these
- 35:51Speaker 13: people's story.
- 35:52Speaker 2: Like, my heart aches.
- 35:56Speaker 13: I just don't see how people can lie. And then
- 35:59Speaker 13: what we're seeing would the knowing wells cast. It's just
- 36:03Speaker 13: like people have no sense of they have no values,
- 36:09Speaker 13: they have no morals, they have no nothing. People are
- 36:12Speaker 13: willing to do anything to say themselves and not be
- 36:16Speaker 13: concerned about anyone else.
- 36:20Speaker 2: And we see it play.
- 36:21Speaker 13: Out so often, and and and and these white people
- 36:27Speaker 13: will rally around each.
- 36:28Speaker 2: Other with the lie. We saw it in the Camello
- 36:32Speaker 2: Anthony case.
- 36:33Speaker 13: We're seeing it play out in the Nolan Wells case,
- 36:36Speaker 13: and and and we see it happened in so many
- 36:39Speaker 13: other cases surrounding our black our black kids.
- 36:44Speaker 1: And you know, also, you know you want since you've
- 36:50Speaker 1: brung that up, I wouldn't you know. I'll be trying
- 36:56Speaker 1: to wrap my mind around how can another black person
- 37:06Speaker 1: condemned Carmelo? How can how can you say, well, if
- 37:17Speaker 1: he didn't bring that to the track meet, or if
- 37:22Speaker 1: he would have just walked away, How many of you
- 37:25Speaker 1: guys are out there be honest with yourself is telling
- 37:31Speaker 1: your kids to walk away?
- 37:35Speaker 13: Well, you've seen what happened when when Cyrus walked away.
- 37:41Speaker 13: We see what happened when there's a young lady on
- 37:44Speaker 13: TikTok she taught her son and walk away. Her son
- 37:48Speaker 13: walked away and got murdered. When we walk away.
- 37:51Speaker 2: Things still happen. So when is enough gonna be enough?
- 37:55Speaker 13: Shouldn't by anytime something happened to our kids is always
- 38:00Speaker 13: a problem, And we're always in the room, no matter
- 38:03Speaker 13: what it looked like. I mean, the evidence is there.
- 38:07Speaker 13: We know that that that that something happened to Nolan
- 38:11Speaker 13: on the island.
- 38:13Speaker 2: We know that that he didn't unlive hisself right.
- 38:18Speaker 13: Every so often we see that these people are unliving
- 38:22Speaker 13: theirselfs and we know that that's not something that we do.
- 38:27Speaker 13: But they're so quick to say that that they that
- 38:30Speaker 13: it's self inflicted, or that they they so quick to
- 38:34Speaker 13: say that it was an accidental drowning, or they're so
- 38:37Speaker 13: quick to say something that would clear everybody else involved.
- 38:45Speaker 13: Now they arrested hell that they arrested Carmelo on the spot,
- 38:53Speaker 13: and he told them that he was defending himself.
- 38:57Speaker 2: Never was given a chance to.
- 38:58Speaker 13: Be to to investigate on the spot to see what
- 39:03Speaker 13: happened that they immediately arrested him. But these white boys
- 39:08Speaker 13: get a chance to come back from the island, they
- 39:12Speaker 13: get a chance to lawyer up. If I ain't did nothing,
- 39:16Speaker 13: why am I gonna lawyer up?
- 39:17Speaker 2: Let me tell you that happened to me. Let me
- 39:20Speaker 2: tell you something that happened to me.
- 39:21Speaker 13: When I was living in a landing, I dropped my
- 39:25Speaker 13: car off at a shot to get fixed. So the
- 39:30Speaker 13: guy told me that they were gonna keep my car.
- 39:35Speaker 13: I dropped it off on a Tuesday. He said I
- 39:37Speaker 13: could come pick it up on Friday. So I went
- 39:40Speaker 13: and picked my car on Friday. Saturday, I was at
- 39:45Speaker 13: work and I got a call from the East Point
- 39:49Speaker 13: Police Department telling me that I needed to come to
- 39:53Speaker 13: the police department, telling me that it was very that
- 40:00Speaker 13: I came to the police report the police department. So
- 40:04Speaker 13: I clopped out and I went to the police department.
- 40:07Speaker 13: They said that my car had been involved in a
- 40:11Speaker 13: armed robbery.
- 40:14Speaker 2: And they needed to question I told them that when
- 40:20Speaker 2: did this happen?
- 40:22Speaker 13: And I told them that I don't own no weapons
- 40:26Speaker 13: and I had not been involved in no armed robbery.
- 40:30Speaker 13: I said that my car. I just picked my car
- 40:33Speaker 13: up from the shop yesterday at about three or four pm.
- 40:43Speaker 13: So I asked them, I said, well when was this robbery?
- 40:45Speaker 13: When was this robbery supposed to had happened? And they
- 40:51Speaker 13: told me when it supposed to have happened. I said,
- 40:53Speaker 13: I was probably at work when that happened, and I
- 40:57Speaker 13: can I can, I can prove that I was at
- 41:01Speaker 13: And I asked them, I said, well, are y'all arresting me?
- 41:05Speaker 13: They said no, we just needed to question you, but
- 41:08Speaker 13: just know that we may be bringing you back in
- 41:11Speaker 13: for more questions or whatever. I never heard from the
- 41:14Speaker 13: people aga answering that because I knew I had not
- 41:18Speaker 13: I knew that I had not done anything. I went
- 41:22Speaker 13: right back to work and I kept on along with
- 41:24Speaker 13: my life because I knew I hadn't done anything. I
- 41:28Speaker 13: was a college I'm playing basketball. What do I look
- 41:31Speaker 13: like robbing somebody? I'm in college at Morris Brown on
- 41:36Speaker 13: the basketball team. What I look like robbing somebody? Come
- 41:39Speaker 13: on now, I told them, God, I better do y'all research.
- 41:44Speaker 1: Yeah, they just trying. They they just trying to get
- 41:49Speaker 1: a conviction. You know it's you mentioned norl What what's
- 41:55Speaker 1: that young man that they said? Rap? He wrapped it
- 42:00Speaker 1: himself up in a matt or? Are he felling the
- 42:02Speaker 1: Matt Jackson and got no?
- 42:08Speaker 13: Peter Johnson from Valhoust to Georgia. Yeah, too impossible. And
- 42:17Speaker 13: then the suspect, one of the suspects, he snow went
- 42:21Speaker 13: on and committed another crime. They always gonna offend again.
- 42:27Speaker 13: But see these white tea people, all they want to
- 42:29Speaker 13: do is tack their kids on the back of white privilege.
- 42:32Speaker 13: But see what is happening is one of these kids
- 42:36Speaker 13: is a is a football supposedly football celebrity, supposedly gonna
- 42:43Speaker 13: be drafted to the NFL, and they don't want to
- 42:46Speaker 13: mess up his career.
- 42:47Speaker 2: That's what that is all about. But he shouldn't have
- 42:50Speaker 2: made it. He shouldn't put his hand.
- 42:53Speaker 1: If he was a black man, they wouldn't care. If
- 42:59Speaker 1: he played bast bsketball, did anything his his tail will
- 43:04Speaker 1: be locked right on up.
- 43:07Speaker 13: You see what happened to that young guy that was
- 43:10Speaker 13: where he was from. I forget the young guy's name,
- 43:13Speaker 13: but they died on him. And they said that he
- 43:16Speaker 13: was had been involved in an accident and that something
- 43:20Speaker 13: had happened and they gonna arrest him and he committed suicide.
- 43:26Speaker 13: And then right after he committed suicide, they said that.
- 43:29Speaker 2: He didn't do it.
- 43:32Speaker 1: Yeah, we got.
- 43:37Speaker 2: Yeah, ruin his football career. But that's what they do.
- 43:44Speaker 2: They don't care about us.
- 43:46Speaker 13: But when it comes to them, you better believe they're
- 43:49Speaker 13: gonna rally around everybody in that state Mississippi.
- 43:54Speaker 2: I was looking at the statistics as well.
- 43:56Speaker 13: Mississippi is one of the states that's on this thing.
- 44:01Speaker 13: That matter of fact, they are number one. They are
- 44:05Speaker 13: number one in role for convictions, and they are number one.
- 44:10Speaker 13: And and black men under twenty nine aged twenty.
- 44:17Speaker 2: Nine and under they are number one.
- 44:21Speaker 1: HM.
- 44:22Speaker 2: And see, we don't even we're not even.
- 44:24Speaker 13: Gonna talk about a lot of the stuff that has
- 44:26Speaker 13: been happening in that in that state concerning our people.
- 44:32Speaker 1: What about that? Look, what was that little little boy
- 44:36Speaker 1: that was in foster care that was drowned and stabbed
- 44:41Speaker 1: like what three weeks ago?
- 44:43Speaker 2: Yeah, that was in apartment South Carolina. That happened on.
- 44:50Speaker 13: July twenty and he had not been in that in
- 44:54Speaker 13: that house for twelve hours and that happened.
- 44:59Speaker 2: So people need to be held account.
- 45:03Speaker 13: And they need to get justice for that baby.
- 45:07Speaker 2: He was only thirteen years old, hadn't even haven't even
- 45:14Speaker 2: begin to live, no type of life.
- 45:18Speaker 1: But you see that that's not all over the news media.
- 45:24Speaker 1: That they only put out what they want us to
- 45:27Speaker 1: know and they hide everything else.
- 45:31Speaker 13: Now we all know that if it was a white person,
- 45:36Speaker 13: that it'll be all over the media. Anytime we are
- 45:40Speaker 13: we are the perpetrator, they're gonna put it out.
- 45:44Speaker 1: But anytime we are the victims.
- 45:48Speaker 13: When we're the victim, they're not gonna put it out that.
- 45:52Speaker 2: They're not gonna put it out.
- 45:53Speaker 13: They gonna they gonna try to suppress it, and they're
- 45:58Speaker 13: gonna try to put out the narratives. Because if if
- 46:03Speaker 13: I knew, I didn't do nothing, why would our lawyer up?
- 46:07Speaker 2: Why why would I need a lawyer?
- 46:11Speaker 13: If you are innocent, the truth is gonna stand, yo,
- 46:16Speaker 13: then Donna know the truth to stand. It's too it's
- 46:21Speaker 13: too many, it's too many homes in these stories. But
- 46:27Speaker 13: these white people can sit on these patterns on TikTok
- 46:31Speaker 13: and they can say what they want to say, and
- 46:33Speaker 13: they always the first thing they want to say is
- 46:36Speaker 13: is it ain't about race? But we all know what
- 46:38Speaker 13: it is. And all these people on a found they're
- 46:41Speaker 13: not racist. And then we got these coons, We we
- 46:45Speaker 13: got the these black men that's married to these white women.
- 46:49Speaker 13: We got these these black women that that white white men,
- 46:53Speaker 13: and they want to act like this is not happening,
- 46:55Speaker 13: this is not real, that that that that there's no
- 46:59Speaker 13: such thing has white privilege, and that we can't that
- 47:02Speaker 13: we are racist. No, we can't be racist because we
- 47:05Speaker 13: have never oppressed nobody. We've never oppressed nobody, So where
- 47:12Speaker 13: where does that come in?
- 47:17Speaker 1: That's just, you know, that's in that's a figment of
- 47:22Speaker 1: their imagination.
- 47:27Speaker 2: But I just want, I know, I know you have
- 47:30Speaker 2: to go get you some.
- 47:31Speaker 13: Rest, but before we go, I want you to pray
- 47:37Speaker 13: for the Kendred his brother passed on yesterday and his
- 47:42Speaker 13: mom is.
- 47:45Speaker 2: It's sick. So we want to keep them lifted.
- 47:47Speaker 13: That's why I'm stressing to individuals out there to join
- 47:54Speaker 13: this anthology. They are not forgotten, because there's so many
- 47:58Speaker 13: people that are behind prison that sometimes feel forgotten because
- 48:03Speaker 13: they're losing loved ones and they feel like no one
- 48:06Speaker 13: is Therefore, you know, oftentimes I get so many messages,
- 48:10Speaker 13: I gave so many calls, and you know, yesterday it
- 48:13Speaker 13: hurt my heart to hear the Kendrick and he was
- 48:17Speaker 13: he said he giving up on God. I told him,
- 48:19Speaker 13: don't give up on God. I said, don't give up
- 48:22Speaker 13: on God. I said, because God ain't giving.
- 48:24Speaker 2: Up on you. So I talked to him.
- 48:27Speaker 13: I prayed with him, and I was telling him, I said,
- 48:30Speaker 13: you don't know what God is protecting you from on
- 48:32Speaker 13: the outside.
- 48:34Speaker 2: And I said, you don't know what.
- 48:36Speaker 13: You don't know why he brought your brother home, because
- 48:40Speaker 13: God don't make no mistakes, and he would bring you
- 48:44Speaker 13: home before. He allowed you to go through some stuff.
- 48:47Speaker 13: And people don't understand that. People don't understand that because
- 48:53Speaker 13: a lot of people can't handle some of the things
- 48:55Speaker 13: that's getting ready to happen.
- 48:56Speaker 2: On this earth.
- 49:02Speaker 13: So when he feels like he need to bring you
- 49:06Speaker 13: home to protect you, that's what he gonna do because
- 49:09Speaker 13: he don't make mistakes.
- 49:11Speaker 2: He don't make mistakes.
- 49:13Speaker 13: But I want to encourage the listeners that are out
- 49:16Speaker 13: there that may have a word of encouragement, that just
- 49:18Speaker 13: may have something positive that they would like to share
- 49:21Speaker 13: with someone behind prison laws to join this anthology. To
- 49:26Speaker 13: allow the voice to speak, whether it's a poem, whether
- 49:28Speaker 13: it's a quote, whether it's a short message or story,
- 49:31Speaker 13: whatever it is that can encourage somebody, because you never
- 49:35Speaker 13: know what the next person is in need of and
- 49:37Speaker 13: what can help that next person to gather some hope
- 49:43Speaker 13: and to stay on this journey and to not give up,
- 49:45Speaker 13: and to let them know that they are not forgotten.
- 49:48Speaker 13: So I need a lot of people because I'm looking
- 49:53Speaker 13: for one hundred and thirty three voices, and it's based
- 49:56Speaker 13: on Hebrews thirteen and three with sayings that and I'm
- 50:01Speaker 13: paraphraser that that we are supposed to to think about
- 50:06Speaker 13: those that are behind prison walls, that we are supposed
- 50:09Speaker 13: to to be as if we were in bondage with
- 50:14Speaker 13: in in bundage with them, that we were bound behind
- 50:16Speaker 13: those walls too.
- 50:19Speaker 2: So I encourage those.
- 50:21Speaker 13: That are out there there is a a thirteen dollars
- 50:26Speaker 13: and thirty three cent feet to be a part of
- 50:28Speaker 13: this anthology. Some of us waste that on coffee, some
- 50:32Speaker 13: of us waste that on on snacks every day, and
- 50:36Speaker 13: and and those that that that do other stuff, we
- 50:39Speaker 13: waste more than that.
- 50:42Speaker 2: So I encourage you to put.
- 50:45Speaker 13: Down some of those habits and uh uh allow those
- 50:50Speaker 13: extra funds to empower somebody that's behind those prison walls
- 50:54Speaker 13: because you don't know that it it may save a life.
- 50:58Speaker 13: So that that's how I want to say, say, Shannett,
- 51:01Speaker 13: I'm gonna let you go ahead and finish up. And
- 51:06Speaker 13: again I thank you for pressing. I know it's a
- 51:10Speaker 13: struggle sometime for you, but I know the guys appreciate
- 51:17Speaker 13: you getting out here and constantly sharing and and and
- 51:21Speaker 13: talking about the injustice and bringing these things to life
- 51:24Speaker 13: so that people can be aware.
- 51:28Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, and that's my That was my main focus,
- 51:31Speaker 1: because you know, sometimes I just feel like that I'm
- 51:34Speaker 1: not being heard. You know, what am I doing? What
- 51:38Speaker 1: am I not doing to get their messages out there?
- 51:43Speaker 1: You know? But when I talk to them they it's
- 51:47Speaker 1: just you doing good. Just just keep just keep doing it,
- 51:51Speaker 1: Just keep putting our message out there. Just keep putting
- 51:53Speaker 1: it out there. Somebody finally gonna listen, somebody finally gonna
- 51:57Speaker 1: get a hold of it. And and you know, but
- 52:03Speaker 1: I tell you, it took me. That that made me
- 52:07Speaker 1: took me back. Was Carmelo Anthony. That that took me back.
- 52:14Speaker 1: That that that took me down. But now I have
- 52:20Speaker 1: to say, okay, you know what we have. I have
- 52:25Speaker 1: to just come back. You know, no, this is not
- 52:30Speaker 1: gonna stand. We got to continuously fight for what's right.
- 52:38Speaker 1: We got to save our young men. We have to
- 52:43Speaker 1: keep our people out of these prisons. We have to
- 52:51Speaker 1: keep them out. We have to find a solution. We
- 52:55Speaker 1: need to come together as one to find a solution.
- 53:01Speaker 1: How to save our babies from prison. We have to.
- 53:11Speaker 1: If we don't, we're gonna lose them. And they not
- 53:15Speaker 1: plan fair. They are handing down big time to our kids,
- 53:22Speaker 1: to our babies. They giving them, they stretching them out,
- 53:31Speaker 1: and they using them to maintain the prisons, they the yard,
- 53:41Speaker 1: the dis using them, and they're not getting paid for it.
- 53:49Speaker 1: And these men and women are some of them are
- 53:56Speaker 1: wrongfully convicted. Then another thing I want to this is
- 54:02Speaker 1: gonna be another thing I want to share with you guys.
- 54:07Speaker 1: They you know, they know, you know, they have church
- 54:12Speaker 1: programming where the ministers, the different ministers can come inside
- 54:16Speaker 1: of the prisons and they can minister to them. Well, okay,
- 54:22Speaker 1: not only do they have the different religions, they still
- 54:30Speaker 1: have they have people that's in there that worship Satan,
- 54:34Speaker 1: Satan that does witchcraft and stuff, and they cannot say
- 54:39Speaker 1: the Department of Justice cannot do anything to stop them
- 54:45Speaker 1: because they feel that's part of their religion. That's what
- 54:49Speaker 1: that's their religion. The only thing they can't do, the
- 54:53Speaker 1: only thing that they can't do is someone like uh
- 54:57Speaker 1: whatever they call their priests or whatever, can't come into
- 55:01Speaker 1: the prison. But they can stay in they little they
- 55:05Speaker 1: little cells, or they can come. They can get together
- 55:09Speaker 1: and they can practice that. So you you got family
- 55:14Speaker 1: members that's in prison, you need to pray over them
- 55:21Speaker 1: constantly because they are they they are in the belly
- 55:26Speaker 1: of the beasts and you don't know what's going on,
- 55:33Speaker 1: what what kind of juju or whatever they're trying to
- 55:37Speaker 1: put on them. You got to constantly pray over them.
- 55:41Speaker 1: When I found that out that could have That just
- 55:44Speaker 1: floored me that they do that. They are in there
- 55:49Speaker 1: in their own little room in the auditorium whatever wherever
- 55:56Speaker 1: they let them go, and they congregate, they come to
- 55:59Speaker 1: get together and they do their little worship ceremony with
- 56:04Speaker 1: the witchcraft in it, whatever they may in there. And
- 56:09Speaker 1: then you have the other men's that come in there
- 56:11Speaker 1: that may work out. You don't know what they done died.
- 56:19Speaker 1: So I just wanted to say that. But I see
- 56:25Speaker 1: my my laptop is going down. I forgot to charge
- 56:29Speaker 1: it up. But I just want to say you guys,
- 56:34Speaker 1: please please check on your the men, your loved ones
- 56:39Speaker 1: that's currently incarcerated. Keep them lifted up in prayer, send
- 56:47Speaker 1: them a letter, let them know that you guys are
- 56:50Speaker 1: thinking of them. Reach out to you can reach out
- 56:53Speaker 1: to me, You can reach out to Angela pertaining the
- 56:59Speaker 1: anthology that Angela have. Remember, we want as many people
- 57:06Speaker 1: to come and join us and send us some positive thoughts,
- 57:12Speaker 1: encouraging words to them inside of this anthology and for
- 57:18Speaker 1: only thirteen thirty three thirteen thirty three, a small investment
- 57:28Speaker 1: and your words can be heard all over the world.
