- 0:35we are here live with a
- 0:36four box tonight the screen
- 0:39is full it's carolyn it's
- 0:42jamie it's myself and the
- 0:44special guest tonight raf
- 0:45duran what's going on raf
- 0:47hey I need a little head
- 0:49cut out like you guys had I
- 0:50should have like a super
- 0:54You know what's really funny is,
- 0:57and I hope there's enough
- 0:58listeners here to hear the story.
- 1:00In twenty twenty two,
- 1:04we the original crew went
- 1:06to the games and we brought
- 1:07on special guests to be our
- 1:10analysts at the CrossFit Games.
- 1:12We had four.
- 1:14Two of them are on the show tonight.
- 1:19It was Raftoran, it was Carolyn Prevost,
- 1:22it was Lex, and it was Mitch McClure.
- 1:27And those were our four
- 1:28special analysts for the
- 1:29twenty twenty two CrossFit Games.
- 1:32And we've reunited two of
- 1:33them back tonight.
- 1:36Yeah, I remember that.
- 1:38I remember Gabby Magala had
- 1:40been on the scene for a
- 1:41little bit already,
- 1:42and I think it was maybe
- 1:44you or someone asked me a
- 1:45question about Gabby.
- 1:47And I did not know Gabby.
- 1:49I was not familiar with her game.
- 1:51And I shouted out some
- 1:52answer all confident.
- 1:53And I was so dead wrong about her.
- 1:55And I still think about it to this day.
- 1:57Every time I watch Gabby, I'm like,
- 1:59there I was thinking that
- 2:00she was like a specialist.
- 2:03And she's the real deal.
- 2:05She's so legit.
- 2:06And I hope that we get to
- 2:07see her back very soon from
- 2:08her Achilles injury.
- 2:10The two things I remember
- 2:11most from that year are that...
- 2:15It was the year that Boz
- 2:16programmed the games.
- 2:18And in the first couple days,
- 2:19you guys were all like,
- 2:20it is such a shame Carrie Pierce retired.
- 2:23This would have been her games.
- 2:25That was like the big topic
- 2:26for the first two days.
- 2:28And then the other thing was
- 2:29you got your wisdom teeth
- 2:30pulled during that games
- 2:32and tried to come on the air after.
- 2:34I don't remember that.
- 2:38That's so funny.
- 2:38It's not surprising that you
- 2:39don't remember that.
- 2:45It's hilarious.
- 2:45Dude, wisdom teeth is,
- 2:46I've had some surgeries, unfortunately,
- 2:50and you know, they take good care of you.
- 2:51You get in the waiting room afterwards,
- 2:53you wake up in a nice hospital bed,
- 2:55they give you a little food and crack,
- 2:56like wisdom teeth is,
- 2:57I woke up on the curb and was like,
- 2:59they were like, get in the car.
- 3:01I was like, what?
- 3:03You know, very different experience.
- 3:05Yeah,
- 3:07I couldn't believe you even attempted.
- 3:12Well,
- 3:12before we get into the CrossFit stuff,
- 3:14make sure you like and
- 3:14subscribe to the channel.
- 3:16That really helps us out a lot.
- 3:18If you want to join the team,
- 3:19you can hit the join button
- 3:20for two dollars and ninety
- 3:21nine cents a month.
- 3:22Simple as that.
- 3:23You can become a member of the channel.
- 3:25But before I jump in,
- 3:26I have to do a shout out.
- 3:28um I'm going to explain a
- 3:29lot of this tomorrow on the
- 3:30lunch show but for the most
- 3:32part my second car we
- 3:34finally got back from my
- 3:35daughter it did not start
- 3:36this weekend when my wife
- 3:38needed it had to get a
- 3:39mobile mechanic to come out
- 3:41put a new battery in he
- 3:42asked if he could record
- 3:43himself doing it and I
- 3:45asked him why and he said
- 3:46because I am making a
- 3:47youtube channel he has
- 3:49fifty thousand subscribers
- 3:52and he does how to's on car
- 3:54mechanic stuff and his name
- 3:57is is tag is semperfi
- 3:59mechanic and he has
- 4:01thousands of videos out
- 4:02there for you to see he is
- 4:04an awesome dude and uh go
- 4:06check out his youtube
- 4:07channel or if you're like
- 4:08judy reed and you're in the
- 4:09columbus area and you need
- 4:10a mobile mechanic you can
- 4:11call him up he shows up
- 4:12right in your driveway and
- 4:14he can do everything
- 4:16everything on your car so
- 4:18semper fi mechanics make
- 4:19sure you check them out uh
- 4:21huge shout out to him so um
- 4:26jay birch says he needs to
- 4:27do that yeah yeah starting
- 4:31a youtube channel is easy
- 4:34it's all the work yeah um
- 4:39we got judy in the chat we
- 4:40got craig we got kenneth we
- 4:42got jody and we're gonna
- 4:43jump into teams but
- 4:46jamie just found out
- 4:47something before we went on
- 4:48the air so she's gonna talk
- 4:50about it and we're gonna
- 4:51talk about what this may
- 4:52mean yeah um so I was
- 4:56talking to uh another gym
- 4:58owner last night and uh
- 5:00talking about just I don't
- 5:01know leveling up our gyms
- 5:03and careers and stuff but
- 5:05uh I was talking about joe
- 5:06to gain and then he
- 5:07informed me that joe sold eight one oh um
- 5:12And I had no clue on that.
- 5:13I don't, I mean,
- 5:14I don't know how I missed that.
- 5:15I try to follow all that stuff.
- 5:16And also Andrew Charlesworth, who is the,
- 5:19he was the owner of CrossFit Twaybor.
- 5:22That was where Jordan Chefs came out of.
- 5:25Remember her?
- 5:26He sold his gyms.
- 5:27He's still the affiliate rep
- 5:29for the Midwest, but sold Twaybor.
- 5:32So both the two like big
- 5:34gyms around here losing their big dogs.
- 5:37So Andrew Charlesworth and
- 5:38Joda Gaines were both in my
- 5:40first CrossFit L-One.
- 5:42Yep.
- 5:44Teaching not, not in it, taking it,
- 5:46but actually teaching the course.
- 5:48Right.
- 5:51So that's crazy.
- 5:52It is crazy.
- 5:53I mean,
- 5:54I think Joe's just going to be
- 5:55focusing on being flow master, I guess.
- 5:57I don't know.
- 6:00Well, on an interesting note on Tuesday,
- 6:03we have beat Shaw coming on
- 6:04to talk about Metfix.
- 6:06And I don't know if there's
- 6:07a correlation with any of this,
- 6:09but it'd be interesting to see.
- 6:11That's the first thing that
- 6:12came to my mind when you
- 6:13were saying that was the Metfix stuff.
- 6:18And Pete did a big, long,
- 6:19I don't know if it was on
- 6:20Twitter or if it was on,
- 6:25what's the one that's
- 6:26connected to the Instagram?
- 6:27Threads.
- 6:29Threads.
- 6:29Yeah.
- 6:30Yeah, I don't know if it was on that one,
- 6:31but on like what the
- 6:32difference between Metfix and CrossFit is,
- 6:34like he went down a whole...
- 6:37paragraph of things that he
- 6:39called like or he was
- 6:40explaining what the
- 6:40difference is but I'm sure
- 6:41he'll get to it on the show
- 6:43on tuesday and then he is
- 6:45their head of education yeah
- 6:47met Fix's head of education.
- 6:49He is a former seminar staff member,
- 6:52former CrossFit Games athlete.
- 6:54He is going to come explain
- 6:56what the difference is.
- 6:57And he made clear to me when
- 6:59we were talking beforehand
- 7:01that they are not a
- 7:02competitor of CrossFit.
- 7:04And he wants to kind of
- 7:05clear that up and explain
- 7:07who they are and what
- 7:08they're trying to accomplish.
- 7:09So check that out on Tuesday at two p.m.
- 7:12Eastern time.
- 7:15But yeah,
- 7:15that's weird that like two
- 7:16longstanding seminar staff
- 7:18members who own gyms in
- 7:20Michigan both sold recently.
- 7:24But they're still affiliates though.
- 7:26They just sold to other people?
- 7:29I believe both are still
- 7:30CrossFit affiliates.
- 7:31Yes.
- 7:34Crazy.
- 7:36All right.
- 7:37Well, with that,
- 7:37that's just one of those
- 7:39things to make you go, hmm.
- 7:40Yeah.
- 7:41And that's all we got on that.
- 7:42So we're going to start
- 7:44talking teams for people
- 7:46who don't know Raph has
- 7:47been on a CrossFit games team for now, uh,
- 7:52three years in a row.
- 7:54That's right.
- 7:55Yeah.
- 7:55And you are the Rhino dogs.
- 7:58Yeah.
- 7:59Camp Rhino, CrossFit dogs.
- 8:01Got a lot of animals in our name.
- 8:05Is that fiddle on the shirt?
- 8:07They just write it for dogs.
- 8:08We just say, yeah, no,
- 8:10but does it fit on the CrossFit shirt?
- 8:11I think they take out the dog's piece.
- 8:13Okay.
- 8:14The first year I went to the games,
- 8:15we were, I was on NorCal CrossFit.
- 8:18And, uh, here's Justin what's up, man.
- 8:21Um, and we, we had enough,
- 8:22we trained at an affiliate
- 8:24because there was four
- 8:25different crop NorCal
- 8:26CrossFit gyms at the time.
- 8:28And so we were NorCal
- 8:28CrossFit Redwood City.
- 8:30And that like the print is like very,
- 8:32very small shirts.
- 8:34And they wouldn't let us
- 8:35just go to NorCal CrossFit
- 8:36because we specifically
- 8:37were at out of that affiliate.
- 8:41So you have something unique
- 8:43about your team this year.
- 8:44Do you want to share with
- 8:45the audience what is unique
- 8:47about your team?
- 8:48Yeah, I mean, it's pretty cool.
- 8:50It wasn't obviously on purpose, but.
- 8:53Um, yeah, all,
- 8:54all of our athletes were
- 8:55born in a different country.
- 8:56So we represent the U S uh, Belarus,
- 9:01France, and Israel.
- 9:03Um, so it's a pretty, uh,
- 9:05diverse international team,
- 9:07but we all live here in the U S.
- 9:09Um, Omer and I,
- 9:10we train here in Las Vegas
- 9:12with Justin and then Nikita
- 9:14is returning to the team
- 9:15this year from last year.
- 9:17Um,
- 9:17he recently moved from Belarus to the U
- 9:20S and, um, Lena has been, uh,
- 9:24a stud athlete on CrossFit
- 9:26for dance team for a number of years.
- 9:27So we, um, we coached her from,
- 9:29from over there.
- 9:31She's in Idaho, Boise, Idaho.
- 9:33Are you the one that was
- 9:34actually born in the U S?
- 9:36No, so I was, yeah, well,
- 9:39I guess I give it away, but yeah,
- 9:40I was born in France.
- 9:41So I was born in Southern France.
- 9:44My whole father's side of
- 9:46family still lives there.
- 9:47And I,
- 9:48but I came here when I was three
- 9:49months old.
- 9:49So I have dual citizenship.
- 9:51Oh, cool.
- 9:52When,
- 9:53when they did like the country
- 9:54national champions, I,
- 9:57I became a French citizen very quickly.
- 10:01But Willie George was taking
- 10:02the crown there.
- 10:03There was no question.
- 10:04But I had a better shot at
- 10:06that one than I did in the U.S.
- 10:08I think we were discovering
- 10:09everyone else's nationality
- 10:10during that year.
- 10:13And for some reason,
- 10:14we knew everybody who had
- 10:15dual citizenship all of a sudden.
- 10:18Yeah, I was one of them.
- 10:19And I hadn't been back to
- 10:20France in like twenty years.
- 10:23It's not somewhere that I go
- 10:24at very often.
- 10:24And I thought when I was going to go back,
- 10:26they were going to like,
- 10:27Not because of this CrossFit thing,
- 10:29just in general,
- 10:29because my French isn't
- 10:30very good anymore.
- 10:31And I can put on an accent,
- 10:33but my vocabulary is just poor.
- 10:35And I thought they were going to be like,
- 10:36you're some Americanized Frenchman.
- 10:39And they were so welcoming,
- 10:41open arms to me.
- 10:42So I love when I get the chance to go now.
- 10:46So we brought you on to talk about teams.
- 10:48You're very passionate about teams.
- 10:50I know you wrote into Dave's
- 10:52Weekend Review and begged
- 10:54him to get on like a
- 10:57podcast with you and Boz
- 10:59and talk through this.
- 11:00Well,
- 11:01I thought this is the perfect
- 11:02opportunity for me to reach out to Raf,
- 11:04have him back on the show again.
- 11:07So we're giving you,
- 11:09you can talk about whatever
- 11:10you want during this time,
- 11:11but we do have notes.
- 11:12So I'm going to first start
- 11:14talking about this season.
- 11:16So it seems like there's
- 11:18been this effort to try to
- 11:21fix the teams so that they
- 11:23are more spectator-friendly, I might say.
- 11:31But this year, we went all online.
- 11:37And I think that was a horrible,
- 11:39horrible decision.
- 11:40I'd like to get your input on that.
- 11:42Yeah, and...
- 11:44It was disappointing for sure.
- 11:46You know, even just two years ago,
- 11:48we had forty teams at the CrossFit Games.
- 11:50Last year was thirty.
- 11:51This year is twenty.
- 11:52I mean, like we're not going I mean,
- 11:54I think that's OK if you
- 11:55want to make it more elite at that level.
- 11:58But it's half the field that it was.
- 12:00Right.
- 12:00So it's kind of the writings on the walls.
- 12:02Is team going to be around for a while?
- 12:03And then this kind of like
- 12:06hey,
- 12:06we're just going to do everything online.
- 12:08Okay, not the end of the world.
- 12:10I mean,
- 12:10there was individuals that that
- 12:12qualified that way this year, too.
- 12:14But I think what was really
- 12:16a mess was just like not
- 12:17basically not checking videos.
- 12:18I mean, there was a paycheck,
- 12:20but I don't know how
- 12:22thorough they were with that.
- 12:23There were no penalties assessed.
- 12:25It just D legitimizes it a little bit,
- 12:27to be honest.
- 12:29So that was, that was tough, I think,
- 12:31for us,
- 12:31because we take it very seriously.
- 12:33I mean, I'm, you know,
- 12:33I train as a basically a part time job.
- 12:36And
- 12:37to just kind of be like, hey,
- 12:38you probably could have
- 12:39just thrown in five random
- 12:41scores that you didn't even
- 12:42do and might have gotten away with it.
- 12:44It just doesn't feel great.
- 12:46You know, I think there was that,
- 12:48like you always had like, well,
- 12:49you could do that,
- 12:50but then you get to
- 12:51regionals and you look like
- 12:52a clown or semifinals and
- 12:54you look like a clown.
- 12:55Now it's like, it's straight to the game.
- 12:56So yeah,
- 12:59I know CrossFit's probably trying
- 13:00to do the most they can
- 13:01with the limited resources that they have,
- 13:03but yeah.
- 13:05didn't feel like this was as
- 13:06legitimate as previous years.
- 13:10Ladies, any further thoughts on that?
- 13:14No,
- 13:15I completely I completely agree with
- 13:16that.
- 13:17I mean, we talked about it.
- 13:18We talked about it with public videos,
- 13:20everything just it does
- 13:22completely delegitimize it.
- 13:23I wholeheartedly agree.
- 13:27And on top of that,
- 13:27they did the first ever
- 13:29online run outside.
- 13:33which really just
- 13:36highlighted the potential for cheating.
- 13:40Right.
- 13:41There was nothing to stop
- 13:43you from going out of frame.
- 13:45And there was no way for
- 13:46them to check if you just
- 13:47basically went out of frame
- 13:48and waited for three
- 13:49minutes and then came back
- 13:50inside doing while you did
- 13:53your eight hundred meter run.
- 13:55But I think, you know,
- 13:55I think there you know, I know Boz,
- 13:57you can say, well,
- 13:58don't you think there's
- 13:59some decency left in the sport?
- 14:01I think, yes, among us athletes,
- 14:04there's respect among athletes.
- 14:05And obviously, you know,
- 14:08you want to make sure that
- 14:08you're doing it and competing.
- 14:11Like, that's why we do it.
- 14:13But I think, you know, Angelo Jachico said,
- 14:16like,
- 14:17there's no eight hundred meter run
- 14:19that everybody did that was the same.
- 14:20So just even that was just.
- 14:23It was tough.
- 14:24Yeah,
- 14:24I feel for four teams that were on
- 14:26the bubble and that was
- 14:27maybe the difference.
- 14:29Carolyn made great points
- 14:31about what if your gym is
- 14:33in the basement and you
- 14:34have to run up the stairs
- 14:35to get outside to start your run,
- 14:37or you're in New York city
- 14:39and you're on the second floor, you know,
- 14:41you've got to push the elevator,
- 14:42wait for it to go.
- 14:43Then you can go out on your run.
- 14:44Yeah.
- 14:45Yeah.
- 14:46Like as much as running is
- 14:51important in the sport, like in, uh,
- 14:54in competition, there's no, uh,
- 14:57like good way to do it
- 14:58online unless you do a
- 14:59shuttle run of some sort of
- 15:01distance where you can
- 15:02literally stay in frame the whole time.
- 15:04But even when you do like
- 15:06too long of a distance,
- 15:08people can move the cone in
- 15:10as you turn around.
- 15:11Like even if it's just a few
- 15:12feet over the course of
- 15:14like a workout when, you know,
- 15:16seconds are making a
- 15:17difference between people
- 15:18going to the games or not.
- 15:19like it's gonna matter and
- 15:20then the temperature
- 15:21differences like there are
- 15:23so many things about the
- 15:24outdoor run that just
- 15:25doesn't make sense in an
- 15:26online format um I couldn't
- 15:28believe when they did that
- 15:29and then that they didn't
- 15:31even look at any of the
- 15:31videos for the team was
- 15:33crazy I mean I wasn't
- 15:35surprised but at the same
- 15:36time I was like shocked by
- 15:37it too well they were they
- 15:39requested our run video but
- 15:41that even then you can't
- 15:42see or like we're not
- 15:43required to film our run I'm not
- 15:44we didn't have someone
- 15:45available to run with us I
- 15:47mean we're running fast you
- 15:48know you need someone on a
- 15:49bike essentially or
- 15:50something so yeah it was
- 15:51just like not plausible
- 15:53they the nice thing is they
- 15:55did let you do it in other
- 15:56affiliates you didn't have
- 15:57to do it out of the
- 15:58affiliate that you were
- 15:59registered in so if you did
- 16:00have a situation where
- 16:01you're a basement or second
- 16:02story um you could go so we
- 16:05actually went to a
- 16:05different affiliate to do
- 16:07ours because there was a
- 16:07flatter course that was
- 16:09also it was a lot easier to
- 16:11just go around the kind of the
- 16:12the shopping mall that it's in.
- 16:14So, um, but yeah, I mean, if you, you know,
- 16:18if you don't have a gym
- 16:19that's willing to host you or do all that,
- 16:21it was a logistical challenge.
- 16:23And then not only that,
- 16:25making sure that you have
- 16:25your L one judges that are
- 16:27going to travel to that
- 16:28location with you.
- 16:29So it, you know,
- 16:31it was for sure in a challenge.
- 16:33Um, and it put probably a lot of stress on,
- 16:36on gyms and athletes.
- 16:37So it's the pairing too.
- 16:39It's, it's putting it with,
- 16:42rings, a rig.
- 16:45If you pair it with a
- 16:46dumbbell or something that
- 16:48you can at least go and
- 16:49choose your terrain to run,
- 16:52that would have made a big
- 16:53difference for a lot of teams.
- 16:55The top teams, in my opinion,
- 16:57still made it through from
- 16:58the ones that I recognize anyways.
- 17:03It was their guinea pig type
- 17:05workout for you guys.
- 17:07I'm not sure that we'll see
- 17:08it on the individual side.
- 17:10I think there would be
- 17:12lot of cheating going on for
- 17:13that especially with more
- 17:14money on the line for
- 17:15individuals and game spot
- 17:17with like the prestigious
- 17:19factor of that but yeah
- 17:22it's uh to be determined
- 17:24how to really clean that
- 17:25part out we say the top
- 17:28teams made it in but one
- 17:29team missed out by one
- 17:30point right and any no rep
- 17:35ahead of them they're in
- 17:36they're in the games which
- 17:40really sucks for that team
- 17:42And they didn't review a single video.
- 17:43How many scores did you guys have?
- 17:45Four or five?
- 17:46We had five.
- 17:47They requested one video,
- 17:49but there were no penalties
- 17:51assessed from it.
- 17:52It was the run video that they requested.
- 17:53Did you guys have to submit
- 17:55any link to every single episode?
- 17:58No links were even required
- 17:59when you submitted your scores.
- 18:01Just your scores until you
- 18:03got asked one single video.
- 18:05Wow.
- 18:05That's crazy.
- 18:07Yeah.
- 18:08Yeah, and I don't know why.
- 18:09Why not make them public?
- 18:11Even if you're not going to review them,
- 18:13have the teams know that
- 18:14they're going to be held to
- 18:15the standard of public scrutiny.
- 18:18You don't want to be on
- 18:19Hiller because you did something.
- 18:21So at least it gets teams
- 18:23somewhat more legitimate or
- 18:26focused on watching their video.
- 18:28I mean,
- 18:28we redid a workout because we
- 18:30didn't feel good about our burpee reps.
- 18:33um and so we asked you know
- 18:34our judge the next time hey
- 18:35could you be a little bit
- 18:36more stringent with us on
- 18:38those um because it's hard
- 18:39when your team there's four
- 18:42you're one person and
- 18:43there's four of you it's so
- 18:46hard to be like hey guys
- 18:47let's do that rep again
- 18:48because I don't know if we
- 18:50were all at the same time
- 18:51like you need a judge who's
- 18:52going to hand out no reps
- 18:53and and you know like
- 18:55We try to get people who are
- 18:57going to do that,
- 18:58but there was one workout
- 19:00where it was three athletes
- 19:01have to be synchro, one athlete's resting,
- 19:03you're counting to like,
- 19:04seventy-five reps.
- 19:05I mean, the judge has so much to look at.
- 19:07What's the count?
- 19:08Make sure I don't lose track of that.
- 19:10Call the rep from a thruster.
- 19:12Is it below parallel?
- 19:13Is it locked out?
- 19:14Are all three athletes
- 19:16locked out at the same time overhead?
- 19:18And like, you know,
- 19:19and while you're counting,
- 19:20like it's it's like
- 19:21virtually impossible for
- 19:23one judge to be able to do
- 19:24all that stuff.
- 19:27Dex Hopkins, former team athlete as well.
- 19:30Everyone must buy a drone
- 19:31and a registration fee.
- 19:35You need a drone operator
- 19:36and then you need no flight
- 19:38zone or whatever, you know, wild,
- 19:41hilarious, though.
- 19:42Yeah.
- 19:42Yeah.
- 19:43Yeah.
- 19:43Not only two L one judges
- 19:45with the advanced judges course,
- 19:47but now a drone operator
- 19:49who knows what they're
- 19:49doing and can follow you on a run.
- 19:52How many people did you guys
- 19:53have that had their courses
- 19:55for the weekend for you
- 19:56guys to do all the workouts?
- 19:58Three.
- 19:59Um, I think we used three.
- 20:02We maybe had one as a one
- 20:04available as a backup.
- 20:06Um,
- 20:08yeah or yeah I'm pretty sure
- 20:09that's what we had but you
- 20:10know we needed two judges
- 20:13there were workouts where
- 20:14we needed two judges and a
- 20:15head judge that part was
- 20:17very strange and very
- 20:18challenging you know like
- 20:20basically had someone come
- 20:21on camera and be like I'm
- 20:22the head judge and then
- 20:24walked away for twenty minutes.
- 20:28You know,
- 20:28it was it was such a floor judge.
- 20:30They just literally needed
- 20:31to introduce themselves,
- 20:32have the requirements,
- 20:33and then they could
- 20:34literally go and coach
- 20:35their class and then come
- 20:37back at the end of the
- 20:37workout just to pretend
- 20:39that they were there like it.
- 20:41It was so dumb for me like
- 20:43that was such a hard thing to find.
- 20:45And I got like six people to
- 20:47have their certifications
- 20:49just so that I had options
- 20:51for the weekend.
- 20:52Just people are working.
- 20:55Father's Day for the last
- 20:58chance qualifier.
- 20:59And then the other one was
- 21:00just like a busy weekend as well.
- 21:01And it was so hard to find people,
- 21:04even if I had all these people ready.
- 21:07And after that,
- 21:08when I get them certified and, you know,
- 21:10they had their courses there,
- 21:12they just felt useless.
- 21:13Some of them.
- 21:13Yeah.
- 21:15Yeah.
- 21:15And you need them to be there for you.
- 21:18And you don't really know
- 21:19what the workouts are.
- 21:20So you don't really know
- 21:21what times you're going to go.
- 21:23You might have to retest.
- 21:24You might have to throw one
- 21:25in last minute.
- 21:25You kind of just need them on call.
- 21:27It's a lot of stress on them.
- 21:29I get CrossFit.
- 21:30I get what they're trying to do.
- 21:31They're trying to recruit
- 21:34more resources at the end
- 21:35of the day to help them.
- 21:36I think what they've kind of said is like,
- 21:38hey, we can't watch everybody's video,
- 21:40right?
- 21:41Like we need a better system.
- 21:42I think the public videos
- 21:43was a great step forward.
- 21:46I'm not so sure.
- 21:47I think they tried something this year.
- 21:49Maybe they can tweak it a little bit,
- 21:50but yeah,
- 21:52I fully agree with you on the
- 21:54challenges of it from an
- 21:55athlete perspective and
- 21:56just like the stress it puts on gyms,
- 22:00gym members often or gym coaches.
- 22:03Yeah.
- 22:03Like,
- 22:04I just wish I could film my video and
- 22:05post it like so that I could redo it.
- 22:08A lot of times when I do
- 22:09online qualifiers or whatnot,
- 22:10like I don't like to bother
- 22:11people and ask them to come at this time.
- 22:15Cause like I come right
- 22:16after work and most of the
- 22:17time I'm the only one
- 22:18working out at that time.
- 22:19I don't have to worry about
- 22:20getting a judge there.
- 22:21I just fill my stuff and
- 22:22then just submit my video always.
- 22:23Um, like that's always so much easier,
- 22:26right?
- 22:27Work for individuals.
- 22:28I think like there were,
- 22:30there were penalties handed
- 22:31out deservedly.
- 22:32So you got killer going out
- 22:34and calling out people and, you know,
- 22:37but it only works if you
- 22:37have the videos public.
- 22:39Yeah.
- 22:41So, Dex,
- 22:42I'm going to get to your big
- 22:44question in a little bit.
- 22:45But before I do that,
- 22:48you make it to the games.
- 22:50Is it a celebratory moment?
- 22:52Like, in the past, you've always been at,
- 22:54like, a semifinal where, like,
- 22:56you get your name announced,
- 22:57you get to hug each other,
- 22:59you get that joyous, like, woo-hoo.
- 23:02What was this like?
- 23:03Yeah, it was very anticlimactic.
- 23:09I've had every way that you
- 23:10could possibly qualify to
- 23:11the game to happen.
- 23:12I've been at regionals,
- 23:17waiting for your name to get called.
- 23:18That's the greatest one.
- 23:20Oh my God, we did it.
- 23:21It's that overjoy, the crowd's cheering.
- 23:25Doing that as a rookie is
- 23:27the best feeling because you feel like,
- 23:29wow, all this work that I've put in,
- 23:31I've now made it to the
- 23:32pinnacle of team competition at least.
- 23:36And then last year we
- 23:38qualified via failed drug
- 23:39test on another team.
- 23:40So we got notified about a
- 23:42month before the games that
- 23:43we were going.
- 23:44That was like a crazy morning, you know,
- 23:47kind of exciting, but at the same time,
- 23:49very different than like
- 23:50getting that moment on the floor,
- 23:51being on the podium.
- 23:53And then this year was, okay,
- 23:55look like we're in,
- 23:56but hold on until video
- 23:58review and then you get an email,
- 24:00you know?
- 24:00It's like, all right.
- 24:03Like, I think, you know, there was no,
- 24:04like, you want that moment,
- 24:06like that you cross the
- 24:07finish line and you're like,
- 24:09you get to have that celebration.
- 24:11I think every team missed
- 24:12out on that this year.
- 24:14So, you know.
- 24:15Too bad, especially for the rookies.
- 24:17Like, you know, my fourth year going,
- 24:18it's great to go back.
- 24:20But I wish they had that experience, too,
- 24:22to be able to have that
- 24:23celebratory moment.
- 24:24Because now, you know,
- 24:25they could just go to the
- 24:26games and it's the nerves all over again.
- 24:27Yeah,
- 24:30I think that's one of the parts from
- 24:33the semifinals that I miss
- 24:35is when they announce the team names.
- 24:37Like,
- 24:37I think the celebration for that is
- 24:39even bigger than the individuals.
- 24:42For the individuals,
- 24:43it's almost like a sense of relief.
- 24:45On the team,
- 24:46it's like because it's you
- 24:47four all for one trying to
- 24:50get this thing accomplished.
- 24:51When you get your name announced,
- 24:53it is like pure joy.
- 24:56There's such a difference of
- 24:57being on a team just in general.
- 25:00I've done both and never at
- 25:02the games as an individual,
- 25:04but at regionals,
- 25:06the corral experience is very different.
- 25:08You're there with your buddies.
- 25:09You're all like, hey,
- 25:10we're all going to go out there.
- 25:11This workout's going to hurt.
- 25:12We're all going to die for each other.
- 25:14there's like this less
- 25:16pressure of that than
- 25:18individual where like,
- 25:18I gotta make it hurt, it's gonna suck.
- 25:20Like Carolyn, I feel for you.
- 25:22But like,
- 25:23that's at least to me why I like
- 25:26team so much.
- 25:27I've never had moments of
- 25:29like lowest stress in competition,
- 25:31but also push myself way
- 25:33beyond probably what I
- 25:34would have pushed myself as
- 25:35an individual because
- 25:36you've got three people
- 25:37waiting for you sometimes
- 25:38and there's no feeling
- 25:40quite like that either.
- 25:41So that's why I like team.
- 25:44so we'll go to dex's big
- 25:45question which is the
- 25:47second half of our
- 25:48conversation and that is
- 25:51whoop not that one uh do we
- 25:56think team crossfit games
- 25:57is dying what do you guys think
- 26:05I think it is.
- 26:06But I just think it needs to
- 26:07get revamped again.
- 26:09We went so many years doing teams of six.
- 26:11Now we've gone so many years
- 26:12doing teams of four.
- 26:13I think a lot of people watch the teams,
- 26:16obviously, because of Rich.
- 26:17And then once he kind of retired,
- 26:21it's been a little bit more difficult.
- 26:24We had a few super teams continue on.
- 26:28But I don't know.
- 26:29It just seems to be missing something.
- 26:33I think it needs to –
- 26:35A new format of some sort,
- 26:36something more exciting.
- 26:38Um,
- 26:38not to the extent of like grid league
- 26:40where it's like so fast and
- 26:42totally specialists,
- 26:43but something I think
- 26:46similar to what we saw at
- 26:47the SoCal water Palooza,
- 26:48where you can maybe have
- 26:50more people on your team.
- 26:52Um,
- 26:52but you kind of put them in and out and
- 26:53you can only use them a certain amount of,
- 26:55like you have to use them a
- 26:56minimum of times on the
- 26:57floor throughout the whole weekend.
- 27:00Um,
- 27:01something like that I think could be
- 27:03interesting.
- 27:04And I think if you gave the
- 27:05opportunity to more
- 27:06athletes to be on a team,
- 27:08more people would be
- 27:10training for it and have
- 27:12like aspirations of going to the games.
- 27:14I think when you start
- 27:15cutting the teams too short,
- 27:18you lose a big,
- 27:19big amount of like a lot of
- 27:21people that train and have that goal,
- 27:23like when it's not really
- 27:24realistic anymore.
- 27:25So I think increasing the teams in numbers,
- 27:28but not necessarily the
- 27:29amount of athletes on the floor,
- 27:31if that makes sense.
- 27:34so that you just have more.
- 27:36Jamie?
- 27:38Yeah, I mean,
- 27:40I wouldn't say it's necessarily dying.
- 27:42I think it's being killed on
- 27:44CrossFit's side.
- 27:46I think exactly right.
- 27:48Like,
- 27:49It needs to be attainable to people.
- 27:51And team was kind of like
- 27:53the first place people started.
- 27:55And that taking away those
- 27:58opportunities is... It
- 28:01could hurt the entire sport.
- 28:02I mean,
- 28:03I think it will hurt the entire sport.
- 28:04I think just...
- 28:06we already say like how not
- 28:09having like that regional
- 28:10feel anymore is hurting
- 28:12attendance and getting rid
- 28:14of that is what is killing
- 28:16the sport in general.
- 28:17And those boxes go support
- 28:20their teammates.
- 28:21Like we need that.
- 28:22We need all those people.
- 28:25And to echo Jamie,
- 28:28I think that they were
- 28:29trying to kill it and they,
- 28:30and if they were paying
- 28:31attention this year,
- 28:33they learned that they're
- 28:34more important than they
- 28:35thought they were.
- 28:37For an in-person qualifying event,
- 28:40a semifinal or a regional,
- 28:42teams is a must to get butts in the seat.
- 28:46And you talk about Rich Froning.
- 28:48I have lived in Rich
- 28:49Froning's regional region
- 28:52my entire CrossFit life.
- 28:56Mayhem didn't get the
- 28:57loudest cheers all the time.
- 28:59Because some boxes brought
- 29:00more people than Mayhem
- 29:02brought to those regionals.
- 29:04And it was so loud and so
- 29:08fanatical over those teams.
- 29:11That's when it was awesome.
- 29:14And Dex was in that region.
- 29:16Dex lived that.
- 29:18Conjugate was a phenomenal team back then.
- 29:21You had CrossFit Grandview.
- 29:23You had all these teams that
- 29:25were fighting back then
- 29:26that they brought a slew of
- 29:28people to the regional
- 29:30event or the semifinal event,
- 29:32whatever it was.
- 29:35Yeah, when Rich did teams,
- 29:36more casual fans watched.
- 29:39But when the teams were out there,
- 29:41their affiliates came in
- 29:44droves to watch those
- 29:45people out on the floor.
- 29:47And it was louder than the individuals.
- 29:50And maybe I'm spoiled by the region I'm in,
- 29:54but that's the way it was.
- 29:57Yeah, that's my memory.
- 29:59They tried to kill it,
- 30:00but I think they learned this year,
- 30:03you have to have something
- 30:04on the line for the teams
- 30:05you have at these in-person events.
- 30:09Well,
- 30:09I don't think that they should put
- 30:10the teams in a different
- 30:12part of the year where now
- 30:13the individuals can do both.
- 30:15Because if it's all the
- 30:16individuals doing...
- 30:17if it's the individuals
- 30:19doing like both competitions,
- 30:22it just becomes less and
- 30:23less attainable for the
- 30:25regular folks doing that
- 30:27are enjoying the sport of CrossFit.
- 30:30And I think if you want to
- 30:31grow more people in the space,
- 30:34just having more opportunities for that,
- 30:36like those individuals are
- 30:38important in the affiliates.
- 30:40I think there's a time and
- 30:41place where the individuals
- 30:42go on a team like Wadapalooza and those,
- 30:44you know, one-off,
- 30:46major competitions out of
- 30:47season where that's the
- 30:48place where the individuals
- 30:49go team and it's fun and we
- 30:51don't get to see them
- 30:52compete on a team very
- 30:53often but I just think that
- 30:55the teams at the games and
- 30:58at these competitions is
- 30:59important for um people
- 31:01that will be buying tickets
- 31:02to go see them and just to
- 31:04have more athletes have
- 31:05opportunities to go to the
- 31:07games and experience that
- 31:08yeah I was I was thinking
- 31:12about taking it almost in a
- 31:12different direction I i
- 31:14I think,
- 31:14I think what works at a regional
- 31:16is having regional
- 31:17affiliates come together.
- 31:19And back then it was like, honestly,
- 31:20it was probably just like,
- 31:21most people were like,
- 31:22we were literally members
- 31:23of this gym and we all
- 31:25happened to be pretty good.
- 31:26And we put together a team and like,
- 31:27here we are at the regional.
- 31:29I think today you can still
- 31:31have that if the,
- 31:32if the semifinal field or
- 31:34in-person qualifying events
- 31:36are deep enough for that, like, thirty,
- 31:38forty teams, I think you can do that.
- 31:40Um,
- 31:41But at the games,
- 31:43especially if we're going
- 31:43to keep with twenty teams,
- 31:45you're not going to get people to travel.
- 31:48As much as we're trying to
- 31:50stay connected to our gym,
- 31:52a lot of them aren't going
- 31:53to travel to Albany.
- 31:55Some of them will.
- 31:56A lot of them came to Fort Worth.
- 31:58But I think it's different at the games.
- 32:02I think at the games,
- 32:03you need the superstars.
- 32:06people watch it because they're rich,
- 32:07right?
- 32:07And that was very true for a long time.
- 32:09And I mentioned last week, I mean,
- 32:11like you look at the star
- 32:13power that we lost on team
- 32:14from just this year and last year,
- 32:15like Noah Chandler, Cara Saunders.
- 32:19I don't know if Royce is
- 32:20competing again this year.
- 32:21Con Porter, James Newberry,
- 32:22that whole team gone.
- 32:24You know, like we lost Jamie Green,
- 32:26like Elliot Simmons.
- 32:29We lost a lot of individual
- 32:32stars that people would recognize.
- 32:33And I think
- 32:35what people want to watch
- 32:36they want to watch people
- 32:37that they recognize I
- 32:38almost say like let's open
- 32:39up super teams again like
- 32:41it's not great for me
- 32:43because like it makes the
- 32:44field more competitive but
- 32:46I think if you want to get
- 32:46people to watch team it's
- 32:48kind of something that you
- 32:49can do after your
- 32:50individual career is kind
- 32:51of coming to an end or
- 32:52wrapping up that you can
- 32:53just say hey I'll go on a
- 32:55team I don't have to travel
- 32:56and I just have to do you
- 32:57know semis somewhere or
- 32:59something like that I think
- 33:01that would get more
- 33:02athletes involved and
- 33:02you'll get more people
- 33:04watching team because it's like, oh, cool.
- 33:06I know this athlete from
- 33:07their individual and
- 33:08they're also competing at
- 33:10the games on a team.
- 33:11I would also not call it the
- 33:12affiliate cup.
- 33:15I think I had an idea.
- 33:17Rebrand community cup to affiliate cup.
- 33:22Have the affiliate cup
- 33:23actually go to an affiliate
- 33:25and have it be
- 33:26participatory and
- 33:27performance based somehow.
- 33:30And then make the team
- 33:31professionalize the team
- 33:32competition at the games.
- 33:33This is elite teams.
- 33:34It's not affiliate because
- 33:36I'm part of the camper.
- 33:37I know CrossFit gym,
- 33:38but I don't take classes there.
- 33:39Like I train there as a
- 33:41professional athlete, you know, anyway,
- 33:43that's my idea.
- 33:49I like that.
- 33:50I'm kicking super teams ass
- 33:51on an ARP team was sick though.
- 33:53Heck yeah, it was.
- 33:58All right,
- 33:59it's been at the course of
- 33:59twenty seventeen CrossFit Games or Run,
- 34:02Swim, Run.
- 34:02I remember just swimming and being like,
- 34:04I'm just trying to find
- 34:05Rich Froning's half balding head,
- 34:08like I'm just picking off
- 34:09people and I have no better
- 34:11feeling than than than
- 34:13trying to track down those guys for sure.
- 34:15It's fun.
- 34:18do agree with you at the
- 34:18games you need to have the
- 34:19star power but I do think
- 34:22there was something magical
- 34:23about the regional level
- 34:25but and we went away from
- 34:26that with semifinals for a
- 34:27few years so that it lost
- 34:29its luster there too um
- 34:32we'd have to go back to a
- 34:33regional style semi-final
- 34:36for it to work but I also
- 34:38think that at the games
- 34:40there are too many people
- 34:41on the floor at a time sometimes
- 34:44And I don't know if it needs
- 34:45to be a shift in programming,
- 34:46a shift in rules,
- 34:48but there are times where
- 34:49it gets so cluttered on the
- 34:52floor that you can't tell the story.
- 34:56Right?
- 34:58I get the need for like a
- 35:02worm type apparatus.
- 35:05I like the earthworm
- 35:06personally above the worm.
- 35:09I think it is more
- 35:09devastating and it
- 35:11penalizes people for
- 35:12mistakes much quicker.
- 35:15And it's way more fun to
- 35:16watch as a spectator
- 35:17because you get some hellacious drops.
- 35:22But there's too much like
- 35:25clutter on the floor,
- 35:26especially like four-person
- 35:28burpees and stuff like that.
- 35:31I wish there was a way
- 35:33either you go five teams
- 35:35per heat or you diminish
- 35:38how many people go out at a
- 35:40time and change the programming.
- 35:41And maybe it's a combination
- 35:42of a little bit of this,
- 35:43a little bit of that.
- 35:44Yeah.
- 35:47I agree.
- 35:47I really liked that.
- 35:48There was a show called physical.
- 35:49One hundred is on Netflix
- 35:51and they did this one team
- 35:52event where they pushed like this huge,
- 35:55it was, you know, a prop,
- 35:57but it was a huge boat and
- 35:58they had to like load weight onto it.
- 36:00They had to roll it over logs.
- 36:01And at the end they had to
- 36:02do like a rope pole,
- 36:03basically like a twenty
- 36:04percent CrossFit event.
- 36:06But it looked devastating.
- 36:08Like they would all go three
- 36:09to one push and the boat
- 36:10would move literally like an inch.
- 36:12At least that's how they
- 36:13showed it on the storytelling.
- 36:15it was like that's cool and
- 36:17I think what you said about
- 36:17the earthworm is what makes
- 36:19teams very relatable it's
- 36:22when you see people
- 36:22struggle with something
- 36:23you're like oh that's hard
- 36:26right like I think if we
- 36:26come to the point with the
- 36:27regular worm now we're like
- 36:29all teams are really
- 36:29efficient with it we don't
- 36:31really make it look hard
- 36:31it's hard I'm like let me
- 36:33tell you it sucks but like
- 36:35the earthworm was like this
- 36:36whole new thing where we were just like
- 36:39what do we do with this, you know?
- 36:40And I think people struggle.
- 36:42And I think that's really
- 36:42fun as a spectator to watch
- 36:44people struggle.
- 36:45So we need something like
- 36:46that physical one hundred,
- 36:47like push this thing over there.
- 36:50And by the way,
- 36:50it's going to take you
- 36:51thirty minutes like and
- 36:52like it's one hundred feet, you know,
- 36:54something like that.
- 36:55I think like a gator and D-balls.
- 36:58Yeah.
- 36:59No, no, no, not that.
- 37:01Not that idea.
- 37:02Clearly,
- 37:03we'll just have one boat and one
- 37:05at a time teams will push it.
- 37:08Yeah,
- 37:08so one of my favorite events ever in
- 37:12the teams was when they had
- 37:13to push the snail and then
- 37:15do burpees over the snail.
- 37:17Yeah.
- 37:18Like that was,
- 37:20it was the most exhilarating
- 37:22slow motion event ever at the games.
- 37:27Because Rich Mayhem and, was it Invictus?
- 37:32We're like side by side,
- 37:33like really close going to the end.
- 37:35And that thing moves so slow
- 37:37that like you're holding
- 37:39your breath for longer than
- 37:41a normal event.
- 37:41It was just, it was fascinating.
- 37:43And that would be a similar
- 37:45type push burpee over kind of thing.
- 37:52Yeah.
- 37:53I like it.
- 37:53Road played with like even a
- 37:54tug of war one year with teams.
- 37:55It's very different.
- 37:58I was there for that.
- 37:59That was not fun to watch.
- 38:01Yeah.
- 38:02That was kind of a cluster.
- 38:04I think people,
- 38:04it's like that idea of like,
- 38:06can you do some, like,
- 38:07cause you're talking about like,
- 38:08it's the mayhem versus Invictus.
- 38:09Can you do some sort of head
- 38:11to head with team?
- 38:13Again, it's not going to be super fair.
- 38:14It's going to be a little bit more,
- 38:16less traditional,
- 38:18but there's probably ideas
- 38:19that we can throw into the
- 38:20hopper that could make team
- 38:23different or more exciting.
- 38:25Yeah.
- 38:27and I love what carolyn
- 38:28brought up I think that if
- 38:29you had six people and you
- 38:33only got to start four per
- 38:35event and then those four
- 38:37had to do the whole event
- 38:38no subs during an event but
- 38:41it also if you got an
- 38:42injury you'd have like two
- 38:44replacements so you're not
- 38:45just out of the games
- 38:46because someone got hurt so
- 38:49I think that like cures two issues um
- 38:56Any other ideas, guys?
- 38:58Yeah, I just think that they should, like,
- 38:59if you're going to have a
- 39:00certain amount of people on the team,
- 39:01they have to actually be on
- 39:02the floor for a minimum of, I don't know,
- 39:04two events.
- 39:05Let's say there's eight events,
- 39:07minimum of two events.
- 39:08So once the workouts are out,
- 39:10you get to pick and maybe
- 39:10some of them aren't released yet.
- 39:12And it's like,
- 39:12you've already used that player.
- 39:14And there's, that could be cool.
- 39:20Daniel Church says they
- 39:21overcomplicated a lot of the events,
- 39:23which muddied the competition floor.
- 39:27Yeah.
- 39:30We've tried to like apply
- 39:31individual CrossFit to teams sometimes.
- 39:34And I think sometimes it's
- 39:35like we have to rethink of like,
- 39:37what can I get four people
- 39:39to do rather than like,
- 39:41how can four people do what
- 39:42one person does?
- 39:43It's like,
- 39:44what else can you do with four people?
- 39:45There's so much more.
- 39:47available, right?
- 39:48There was like one year at the games,
- 39:50I thought it was kind of cool.
- 39:51They had the hand that you
- 39:52had to like carry your
- 39:53handstand push up wall across the field.
- 39:56And like,
- 39:57people would kick up and like do
- 39:58handstand pushers while
- 39:59you're like holding wall
- 40:00kind of gimmicky.
- 40:01But like those kinds of ideas,
- 40:02I think bringing those back of like,
- 40:04you can't do that as an individual,
- 40:06probably there's safety concerns.
- 40:07And I'm probably not
- 40:08thinking about a ton of things.
- 40:09But I think like also having like,
- 40:13consistency of teams over years, like
- 40:16let brands come into the space.
- 40:18Let there be a Nike team.
- 40:19Let there be a Team Yeti.
- 40:21Like,
- 40:22why not let them put their money
- 40:24behind it and recruit, okay, Chandler,
- 40:27Noah, you're Team Roka now.
- 40:28Get your two girls.
- 40:29And then year over year,
- 40:31Team Roka becomes a name.
- 40:33And the sponsors love it
- 40:34because they get brand
- 40:36recognition at the games
- 40:38and they can put money behind it.
- 40:40So that's what I would do.
- 40:41And again, that's why I'm kind of like,
- 40:43leaning away from the
- 40:44affiliate and people might not like that,
- 40:45that it's about giving back
- 40:47to the affiliates.
- 40:48But I think you bring more money into it.
- 40:51More athletes will do it.
- 40:53More people will watch it because of that.
- 40:55At least that's my thought.
- 40:57So I started watching Drive
- 41:00to Survive this weekend for
- 41:02its first season.
- 41:04That's exactly what that is.
- 41:05You have like...
- 41:06you have the McLaren team
- 41:07and you have the Red Bull
- 41:08team and you have the,
- 41:10so you're saying like those
- 41:11teams will recruit their
- 41:12players and then you would
- 41:15have consistency.
- 41:16I kind of, if you can't,
- 41:19if you can't rebuild what
- 41:20the affiliate was at the regional level,
- 41:24I think that that's
- 41:25probably your next best
- 41:26option because then you can,
- 41:29you get the same team year
- 41:30over year and then you have
- 41:34like somebody to root for.
- 41:36It becomes like a league.
- 41:38You've got your sports teams,
- 41:39but it's your main sponsors.
- 41:41And then if there's a new
- 41:42team that has enough money
- 41:43and they want to get added,
- 41:45and then Instagram becomes
- 41:47basically your tryouts
- 41:50because they can recruit
- 41:50people based on what they see online.
- 41:54Yeah, I actually like that idea.
- 41:57Let's say you have a certain
- 41:59amount of teams, a league to start,
- 42:01and it's consistency over the year.
- 42:05Yeah, I think that's a good idea.
- 42:10Yeah.
- 42:10Yeah, I like that one a lot.
- 42:11It's definitely something I
- 42:12think that should be at
- 42:14least thrown up on a board
- 42:16and talked about.
- 42:19And it could bring more
- 42:20sponsors overall to the space in general.
- 42:24Right?
- 42:24Because they want it to
- 42:25succeed because they want
- 42:27their team to have a place to go.
- 42:31You know?
- 42:34And you could get those
- 42:35non-endemic brands to support a team.
- 42:42Yeah, that'd be pretty cool.
- 42:46So do you think we'd ever go
- 42:49to a smaller team, like two person?
- 42:54I know CrossFit's doing a
- 42:55pairs competition this year.
- 42:58That might be the trial.
- 43:01Is that during the age group?
- 43:04It's at MFC.
- 43:05Oh.
- 43:09So Masters Fitness
- 43:10Championship is doing pairs.
- 43:13Correct.
- 43:18It'll be more like individual, right?
- 43:20It'll be different.
- 43:23And for that reason,
- 43:24it'll be probably harder, right?
- 43:25You can hide sometimes on teams.
- 43:30I think it has validity.
- 43:33It's more pairs.
- 43:34I don't know.
- 43:35High Rocks, they have it all, right?
- 43:36They have
- 43:38singles, doubles, mixed doubles.
- 43:41They've got teams.
- 43:42Four-person team.
- 43:43Yeah.
- 43:45Yeah.
- 43:51Or does it go to the
- 43:52three-person same sex like
- 43:56they do at Wadapalooza?
- 43:57I don't know.
- 44:00I mean, I like the mixed teams,
- 44:04but I can see programming-wise...
- 44:08a benefit maybe to having all
- 44:13I think the only thing with,
- 44:14with like pairs is like it,
- 44:16you get into that same,
- 44:17you gotta like a male, male pair, female,
- 44:19female pair, female pair.
- 44:20So now you've got three
- 44:21different categories.
- 44:22You just like triple.
- 44:24Yeah.
- 44:24Categories that you have
- 44:25just becomes less easy to
- 44:26follow where like one of
- 44:27the beautiful things of CrossFit men,
- 44:30women, no age groups or, or, you know,
- 44:32I know there are age groups,
- 44:33there's no weight classes, you know,
- 44:35like it's teams, two guys, two girls.
- 44:37Right.
- 44:37That's it.
- 44:38So I,
- 44:38I do like that simplicity of it
- 44:40personally.
- 44:41Okay.
- 44:43Yeah,
- 44:44I think a minor tweak of going three guys,
- 44:45three girls,
- 44:46and you have to start four
- 44:48for every event.
- 44:50And if you want to be like
- 44:50Jamie and say like,
- 44:52but no person can do more than.
- 44:54Eighty percent of the workouts.
- 44:57So everybody has to.
- 44:59Nobody can hide.
- 45:03That's cool, too.
- 45:08Yeah.
- 45:08Definitely.
- 45:09Well, I think we've thrown out a lot.
- 45:12You excited to go to Albany?
- 45:14Hell yeah.
- 45:15Yeah, I'm stoked.
- 45:18I think it's going to be fun, you know,
- 45:19no matter what.
- 45:20It's the games.
- 45:21So, you know,
- 45:22hopefully we get to do some
- 45:23things that we wouldn't
- 45:24just do in our normal home
- 45:25gym and be some folks
- 45:28watching us having a good time.
- 45:29Like, it's always going to be a fun party.
- 45:33Did Allie test any of the team workouts?
- 45:38She did not.
- 45:39She, I think,
- 45:41was the only person there at
- 45:43the ranch when she was there.
- 45:47Yeah, so she did not test team.
- 45:49At least she didn't tell me.
- 45:50Maybe she's lying.
- 45:52She always wants to talk
- 45:53about the workouts because it's like,
- 45:54I want to tell you everything.
- 45:55It's so fun.
- 45:56Like, you know, it's CrossFit.
- 45:57Like, I want to tell you about my day.
- 45:59I did this workout, you know, but...
- 46:02we have a we have a really
- 46:03good partnership where I
- 46:05don't want to put that
- 46:05pressure on her I also
- 46:06don't want to know like
- 46:07it's not fun for me to have
- 46:09an unfair advantage so me
- 46:11personally I don't know
- 46:13well I'd hate to know for
- 46:14two months and have to
- 46:15think about it yeah that I
- 46:18wouldn't I wouldn't sleep
- 46:19for two months uh that's funny yeah
- 46:24How cool is it, though,
- 46:25that Ali has this
- 46:27relationship with Dave
- 46:30where she's the person he
- 46:32trusts to come in and do
- 46:34this stuff and know she's
- 46:36not going to spill the beans?
- 46:39Yeah, that's really nice of you to say.
- 46:41She feels very lucky to have his trust,
- 46:44like you said.
- 46:46And it's a special
- 46:46experience to go down to
- 46:47the ranch and do things.
- 46:49They don't play music.
- 46:51You know,
- 46:52she got in Sunday at like midday
- 46:54and he was like,
- 46:55can you come tonight to
- 46:56test instead of tomorrow?
- 46:57You know,
- 46:57it's like you're kind of like
- 47:00you're in it.
- 47:01You know,
- 47:01she probably did the full
- 47:03CrossFit Games in like just a few days,
- 47:05you know,
- 47:05probably probably the same
- 47:06amount of time that individuals do.
- 47:07Well, you know,
- 47:10our very own Carolyn has
- 47:11been the rogue tester.
- 47:14For the last couple of years
- 47:15and and we can't get anything out of her.
- 47:20Nope, nope, nope.
- 47:21There's a reason why they
- 47:22keep coming back to you.
- 47:22Yeah.
- 47:25It's the same thing.
- 47:25It's like you're supposed to
- 47:27test one day and then they're like,
- 47:28how are you feeling?
- 47:29I'm like, I'm good to go.
- 47:30And then you just kind of do it.
- 47:33But like I'm used to
- 47:33training like that where
- 47:34I'm just kind of going
- 47:36because I don't have, you know,
- 47:37a full day that I can just
- 47:38hang out at the gym.
- 47:40So I'm like, oh, I'm good.
- 47:41I only need a couple, you know, twenty,
- 47:43thirty minutes and then I'll go again.
- 47:44Yeah.
- 47:46Yep.
- 47:47So true.
- 47:48That's fine.
- 47:50Hector Trinta says, Hey Raph,
- 47:52are you guys coming to
- 47:53beetle extravaganza this year?
- 47:55Hey Hector.
- 47:56Um,
- 47:56we went to a competition in Puerto Rico
- 47:59last year, um, and had an absolute blast.
- 48:03Um,
- 48:04Yeah,
- 48:04we haven't looked out that far in our
- 48:06calendar.
- 48:06Allie and I are getting
- 48:07married in September.
- 48:09So we've got a busy couple months, games,
- 48:13getting married.
- 48:16We're going to probably have
- 48:16to save some money for a
- 48:18little bit too after this.
- 48:20But we'd love to come back,
- 48:22if not this year, another year for sure.
- 48:24It was a great time.
- 48:26So I did see on your
- 48:27Instagram the proposal.
- 48:32You guys have been together a long time.
- 48:34What flipped the switch, buddy?
- 48:38I was just dragging my feet, huh?
- 48:41No, I think we're so comfortable.
- 48:44I think we knew that we were
- 48:46going to be together for
- 48:47the rest of our lives.
- 48:48And this was just formalizing that.
- 48:51And it didn't, to me, feel like...
- 48:55important to like make that
- 48:57formalization because you
- 48:59know like we're both
- 48:59professional athletes still
- 49:01ally still is pursuing that
- 49:03career like we're not like
- 49:04hey we got to start family
- 49:05we got to get married like
- 49:06it wasn't like a a timeline
- 49:09of all those things I guess
- 49:11um but I I I you know kick
- 49:13myself now because like
- 49:15once we did kind of
- 49:16formalize it it did change
- 49:17our relationship and for
- 49:18the better like you know we felt
- 49:20like there was that mutual
- 49:21agreement that is maybe unspoken before.
- 49:25So I wish I, of course, had done it sooner,
- 49:26but I couldn't be happier.
- 49:29CrossFat says, was she dropping hints?
- 49:32No, no hints, no nothing.
- 49:34I don't get anything, man.
- 49:37But like I said, I prefer it that way.
- 49:39I say the same thing, Raf,
- 49:40and then my wife goes, no,
- 49:41I dropped like seventy four hints.
- 49:43Yeah, all of them.
- 49:47does she get a lot of people
- 49:48that will message her trying to,
- 49:50because as soon as I was
- 49:53like seen in a picture from rogue,
- 49:55I had athletes asking me
- 49:56about tricks and stuff.
- 49:57And I was like, no, but I can't help.
- 49:59And, um, I don't know.
- 50:02Yeah.
- 50:03I don't, I don't know.
- 50:04I can't speak for her, but, um,
- 50:07it's so early to probably that, like,
- 50:10I think a lot of this stuff
- 50:11that maybe they test at this point, not,
- 50:13it's not early, but they could change.
- 50:16Um,
- 50:17So, yeah, I don't know.
- 50:20I don't know if she does.
- 50:22Have you ever been asked to test?
- 50:24I got to test the year for
- 50:26twenty twenty at the ranch
- 50:28during the COVID year.
- 50:30So I tested the a few of the
- 50:33workouts like the happy star,
- 50:35the first one with the row
- 50:36by in and the bar muscle
- 50:38ups and the shoulder overhead.
- 50:42That's when I think we're
- 50:42both Matt and Tia like
- 50:44failed their last rep of that.
- 50:47And then I tested Atalanta, the, you know,
- 50:50a hundred handstand pushups,
- 50:51two hundred pistols,
- 50:52three hundred pull-ups.
- 50:53I did it as Mary though.
- 50:54So I did one mile run,
- 50:56all wearing a weight vest, five, ten,
- 50:58fifteen for twenty rounds
- 51:00of handstand pushups, pistols,
- 51:01and pull-ups.
- 51:02Maybe I shouldn't be saying
- 51:03that because he might throw
- 51:04that out again at some point.
- 51:05But anyway,
- 51:08I thought my version was way
- 51:10harder because your heart
- 51:11rate's just like high the whole time.
- 51:14But of course,
- 51:14I say that just because I got my book.
- 51:20It's cool.
- 51:21That was cool.
- 51:22Uh, would you,
- 51:23would you ever want to test again?
- 51:24Is that something that was,
- 51:26that was a cool experience for you?
- 51:29Yeah.
- 51:29Like, you know,
- 51:30like it's an honor to have Dave's trust.
- 51:33We, we,
- 51:34we tested the open one year and
- 51:36actually I,
- 51:37I broke my wrist while testing.
- 51:40Um,
- 51:40I like tore a lot of ligaments in my
- 51:42wrist and basically had to
- 51:43miss out that year.
- 51:44Um,
- 51:45But I would definitely still
- 51:47go and test again.
- 51:49That was one of the years we
- 51:50tested the Open because it was like,
- 51:52you know,
- 51:52the top one percent from the
- 51:54Open made it.
- 51:54And, you know,
- 51:55we were pretty confident
- 51:57that we were going to make
- 51:57it to quarterfinals so that
- 51:58he didn't have a problem
- 52:00helping having us like know
- 52:01those workouts, I guess.
- 52:02Yeah.
- 52:04Yeah.
- 52:06And you guys used to live near the ranch,
- 52:08correct?
- 52:09Yes,
- 52:09that was another reason why it was so
- 52:11convenient because we could
- 52:12be there in an hour.
- 52:13Yeah, very easy for us.
- 52:16But it's cool.
- 52:17It's very special.
- 52:18We tested that event where
- 52:20in twenty twenty you just
- 52:22ran up the hill that they
- 52:23have with the feedback and
- 52:27and we're like on our hands
- 52:29and knees crawling and
- 52:31Dave's just kind of up there.
- 52:31He's like, oh yeah,
- 52:32that's poison oak that
- 52:33you're crawling in right now.
- 52:38less because your legs are
- 52:39just on fire and you're
- 52:41just like nine just like
- 52:43it's like three feet away
- 52:44you know that's pretty
- 52:46funny so he's like I should
- 52:48that up before these guys
- 52:49do it you're like fully the
- 52:51guinea pig that seemed like
- 52:53one of the most gnarly
- 52:54workouts ever it was really
- 52:58bad but fun you look back
- 53:00on it you're like wow I ran
- 53:02up that hill one time
- 53:05Well, Raf,
- 53:06thank you so much for taking time out.
- 53:08We'll be at, I'll be at the games.
- 53:10Root me on.
- 53:12Hope you guys kill it.
- 53:15Thanks so much.
- 53:15We're so excited.
- 53:16And yeah, go dogs, baby.
- 53:19This is great.
- 53:20Thank you for having us on.
- 53:21Cause you know,
- 53:21we want to get our name out there.
- 53:22We want people to have
- 53:23someone to root for.
- 53:24Like, I think when we talk about like,
- 53:26like why watch team it's
- 53:27like there's no stories
- 53:29like there's no nobody
- 53:30knows who teams are or who
- 53:32people are on teams so try
- 53:34to make funny videos about
- 53:35teams sometimes so that
- 53:36people at least can
- 53:37recognize us so I
- 53:38appreciate you guys giving
- 53:39me the platform to come out
- 53:40and people can uh can cheer
- 53:42us on there we go go dogs
- 53:44we've got some fans now so
- 53:45now you guys can watch
- 53:46teams because you know who
- 53:47to root for there you go
- 53:49we'll be rooting for you
- 53:51yep good luck thanks y'all
- 53:54yeah have a great night ralph ralph
- 53:59Awesome.
- 54:00So glad he could join us.
- 54:03Love to have Raph on.
- 54:05But that's why knowing the
- 54:06teams helps a lot, right?
- 54:07Because I'm sure now some
- 54:09people are going to look at
- 54:10them and cheer for them even more,
- 54:13just knowing them.
- 54:15Nicole Sherman, yes, we need the stories.
- 54:18I think it's cool that all
- 54:20of them are born in different countries.
- 54:21Yeah, that is cool.
- 54:24Yeah,
- 54:25can't be any more eclectic than that.
- 54:29um all right so we also had
- 54:32a last chance qualifier
- 54:32this week that finally went
- 54:34final um there was a small
- 54:36adjustment on the
- 54:37leaderboard but it did not
- 54:38make a difference in who
- 54:40the winners were we had
- 54:41lydia fish and yonakoski
- 54:44lydia fish by one point
- 54:45yeah over kyra milligan and
- 54:48yonakoski pretty handedly
- 54:50um took the victory on the men's side
- 54:53Does not surprise me.
- 54:54Yona is an absolute legend and champ.
- 54:58And he had a couple bad
- 55:02events over the last few years.
- 55:04But other than that, he's been really,
- 55:06really steady.
- 55:07And congrats to him.
- 55:10Lydia Fish.
- 55:12young up and comer um it's
- 55:14going to be interesting to
- 55:14see how she does at the
- 55:16games if you have not seen
- 55:17her ttt video called
- 55:20officially uh games
- 55:23participant it is awesome
- 55:26it was very good I can't
- 55:27believe she's never had
- 55:28taco bell what the heck that's crazy
- 55:35And did that workout three times.
- 55:37When she showed back up for the third time,
- 55:39I was like, what?
- 55:41Which one did she do three times?
- 55:42I haven't watched it yet.
- 55:43The leg lift.
- 55:43The rope climb.
- 55:45Oh, wow.
- 55:45Yeah.
- 55:46She knew that she needed one
- 55:48more rope climb in her head.
- 55:50She knew she needed one more.
- 55:52How many did she get?
- 55:53Eight, eventually.
- 55:57Was she like seven, seven, and then eight?
- 55:58Yes.
- 55:59Yep.
- 56:01And it was like close to midnight, right?
- 56:04Yes.
- 56:05Like she did the last one,
- 56:07like almost midnight.
- 56:10Wow.
- 56:10And just like you,
- 56:11she works full time during the day.
- 56:13as a server so on her feet
- 56:16serving all day and then
- 56:18comes in and works out
- 56:20that's insane that's what
- 56:22see those are the
- 56:24storytelling aspects of a
- 56:26video that you want here's
- 56:28this girl serving as a
- 56:30waitress all day works her
- 56:33tail off doesn't work out
- 56:36three times to to give her
- 56:38a better shot at making the
- 56:39games and it pans out in
- 56:41the last moment wow
- 56:45It's really cool.
- 56:46And the second time they
- 56:48actually did the math wrong.
- 56:49Right.
- 56:51And so parent was like
- 56:52devastated because they, they,
- 56:55they didn't calculate the rest correctly.
- 56:58And it was the math that, that got her.
- 57:02So, yeah.
- 57:04And just from a creator's point of view,
- 57:06their use of music by
- 57:08stripping pieces of the
- 57:09music out so they could use
- 57:10popular songs made that video so cool.
- 57:17I don't know if you guys noticed that,
- 57:18but it's a Boston song and
- 57:20they pulled like they
- 57:22pulled the music out and it
- 57:23was just acapella.
- 57:24And then they put like they
- 57:26added music to it so that
- 57:28they couldn't get dinged for copyright.
- 57:29Oh.
- 57:32It was sweet.
- 57:33Really sweet.
- 57:35CTP skilled.
- 57:39Any thoughts on last chance
- 57:40qualifier one last time
- 57:41before we leave that?
- 57:47I think just having one spot
- 57:49pushes a lot of people away
- 57:50from doing it.
- 57:52If you have a little bit
- 57:54more spots on the line,
- 57:55more people are going to sign up.
- 57:57But with one spot,
- 57:57I think that's one of the
- 57:59main reasons people didn't do it.
- 58:02They waited until the workouts came out.
- 58:04If it wasn't good for them, why pay?
- 58:06Yep.
- 58:07Nine guys, that was just silly.
- 58:14You definitely needed more.
- 58:16more people participating?
- 58:19Like, I don't know if, I mean,
- 58:22there definitely was burnout from people,
- 58:24but I think the one spot
- 58:26was probably a bigger
- 58:27factor than people's burnout,
- 58:29because if there's more spots,
- 58:31people are not as burnt out.
- 58:32They're going to try to go for it.
- 58:33Yep.
- 58:34Um, but I think,
- 58:35I think a last chance
- 58:36qualifier would be interesting.
- 58:38Like if you can only do one
- 58:40competition in the year and
- 58:41then that's your last chance qualifier,
- 58:43um,
- 58:44And you had more spots
- 58:45online and more spots at
- 58:46the in-person events as well, too.
- 58:51I agree.
- 58:52I think I've made my point
- 58:55clear that I hated this
- 58:57season's structure.
- 58:57Yep.
- 58:58It needs completely revamped.
- 59:01But we'll see what we get.
- 59:05So are you guys ready to
- 59:06play Factor Fiction again this week?
- 59:07Yep.
- 59:09All right,
- 59:10I reworded one of the questions
- 59:11because I didn't like how it was there,
- 59:13and I wanted a different outcome.
- 59:17So the first thing is, fact or fiction,
- 59:22CrossFit athletes should not do grid,
- 59:26should not do grid leg due
- 59:27to injury risk during their
- 59:28CrossFit game season and or WFP season.
- 59:35I mean, I'm going to say fiction, like...
- 59:39I get it.
- 59:40Like grid is high speed and it's,
- 59:43I can see maybe some issues there, but I,
- 59:48it,
- 59:49it rarely hurts to go get extra
- 59:51experience and extra exposure and the,
- 59:54and most people say they
- 59:55want more opportunities.
- 59:56So.
- 59:57And I think the thing with
- 59:58grid is you need perfect execution.
- 1:00:01So it puts a lot of pressure on,
- 1:00:03that and that's something
- 1:00:04that you can't maybe
- 1:00:05replicate in training that
- 1:00:07you might get there but I'm
- 1:00:09always of the of the belief
- 1:00:10of just do as many things
- 1:00:12as possible while you can I
- 1:00:15mean obviously if it's like
- 1:00:16the week before I think
- 1:00:17your training should be you
- 1:00:19know more priority than a
- 1:00:20competition but if it's you
- 1:00:23know a month away two
- 1:00:26months away I see no problem with it
- 1:00:30think it's fiction as well I
- 1:00:31think it is a different
- 1:00:33audience that you are
- 1:00:34exposing to crossfit right
- 1:00:36because if you watch these
- 1:00:39events on youtube daniel
- 1:00:41brandon is described as a
- 1:00:43crossfitter someone who is
- 1:00:44a crossfit games athlete
- 1:00:46you're getting notoriety in
- 1:00:47that audience as a crossfit
- 1:00:49games athlete and maybe you
- 1:00:51get a little crossover
- 1:00:53with some crossfit people
- 1:00:55watching grid and some grid
- 1:00:56people watching crossfit
- 1:00:58and that can only benefit
- 1:00:59both sides of the table and
- 1:01:02any time and I believe that
- 1:01:05crossfit should look at
- 1:01:06high rocks and try to do
- 1:01:07some things like that let's
- 1:01:09do a race of james newberry
- 1:01:12and tia claire toomey
- 1:01:14versus hunter and his woman
- 1:01:19of choice right lauren weeks
- 1:01:22and have an event
- 1:01:24crossfitters versus high rocks.
- 1:01:26Let's go.
- 1:01:28Like,
- 1:01:28I think those are the things that are
- 1:01:29going to need to happen.
- 1:01:31If CrossFit is going to grow.
- 1:01:33Yeah.
- 1:01:37So I think Daniel Brandon, Colton Mertens,
- 1:01:40John Young,
- 1:01:41Lauren Olson dropping in and
- 1:01:43doing grid is a good thing.
- 1:01:48Yeah.
- 1:01:49I think anytime you can compete,
- 1:01:50it's good for your brand.
- 1:01:51Yeah.
- 1:01:53Only a couple relevant
- 1:01:54CrossFitters doing grid,
- 1:01:55but you can get injured anywhere.
- 1:01:57Exactly.
- 1:02:00You can't play scared your
- 1:02:02whole life and not go for
- 1:02:04different opportunities
- 1:02:05that are in front of you.
- 1:02:08CrossFit depends on the bag for grid.
- 1:02:11I think if you're thinking
- 1:02:11about the bag that the grid is paying you,
- 1:02:14you're short-sighted.
- 1:02:16You have to think of the bag
- 1:02:17you could be getting
- 1:02:18because of the exposure
- 1:02:19that that gives you.
- 1:02:24Yep.
- 1:02:25Personally.
- 1:02:26Um, all right.
- 1:02:28So factor fiction, number two,
- 1:02:30this has two parts.
- 1:02:33Third party media companies
- 1:02:35broadcasting qualifying
- 1:02:37events is here to stay.
- 1:02:40Factor fiction.
- 1:02:42I'm going to,
- 1:02:42I'm going to say fact for one, I think,
- 1:02:47I think the way,
- 1:02:49especially if CrossFit
- 1:02:50keeps outsourcing these events, um, and
- 1:02:55it's too expensive to put on
- 1:02:58a proper broadcast.
- 1:02:59And if you're getting no
- 1:03:01help from CrossFit, yeah,
- 1:03:02you're going to have to outsource it.
- 1:03:03And I mean that, you know,
- 1:03:07competition breeds improvement.
- 1:03:09So that's not a bad thing.
- 1:03:13I think that that's a good
- 1:03:15thing for the sport.
- 1:03:16I think, like you said,
- 1:03:18people have been stepping
- 1:03:19up in the space to,
- 1:03:21to make sure that we have
- 1:03:22eyes on different
- 1:03:23competitions and a lot of
- 1:03:25them won't even have been seen this year.
- 1:03:27So, um,
- 1:03:29I think it's important and I think
- 1:03:30they're only going to be
- 1:03:31getting better as they
- 1:03:32learn from each other probably and share,
- 1:03:34share common or best
- 1:03:35practices and stuff like that.
- 1:03:37Um, yeah, I mean,
- 1:03:40I just want to be able to
- 1:03:41see the most amount of competitions.
- 1:03:44So I'm going to do the
- 1:03:44second part so I can
- 1:03:45piggyback on what you guys said.
- 1:03:47And the second part is factor fiction.
- 1:03:49Is this good for the sport?
- 1:03:51And I say fact.
- 1:03:52Yeah.
- 1:03:53Both fact they're here to
- 1:03:54stay and it's good for the sport.
- 1:03:56I have said forever before
- 1:03:58even the season started
- 1:03:59that the traditional
- 1:04:01broadcasts have not changed
- 1:04:02since two thousand twelve
- 1:04:04when I first started watching CrossFit.
- 1:04:06It's the same font on the screen.
- 1:04:09It's the same graphics.
- 1:04:11It's the same everything.
- 1:04:14These third-party companies
- 1:04:15are bringing something new
- 1:04:16to the table for the first time,
- 1:04:19and I think that's good.
- 1:04:21It's going to push the
- 1:04:22boundaries even of the
- 1:04:23traditional broadcast to
- 1:04:25maybe do something a little
- 1:04:26bit different.
- 1:04:28Also,
- 1:04:29it's the only way CrossFit is going
- 1:04:30to survive.
- 1:04:31We can't afford two hundred
- 1:04:33thousand dollars for every
- 1:04:34event to broadcast it via
- 1:04:37the big truck that pulls in.
- 1:04:38Right.
- 1:04:39We're going to have to find
- 1:04:40the lower priced option and
- 1:04:43watch them flourish,
- 1:04:45watch them try things,
- 1:04:47watch them fail and be OK
- 1:04:49with the failings because
- 1:04:51they're trying something new.
- 1:04:55So I think that this is a great thing.
- 1:04:58Fact, fact.
- 1:04:59Anything to add?
- 1:05:00No, I agree.
- 1:05:06I agree.
- 1:05:10Russ, to be fair,
- 1:05:11that's how the Olympics has
- 1:05:12looked for twenty four years.
- 1:05:14You're right.
- 1:05:15The Olympics hasn't changed
- 1:05:16graphics because NBC has
- 1:05:17carried them nonstop for
- 1:05:20twenty four years and
- 1:05:23they're the only show in town.
- 1:05:25So they don't have to change it.
- 1:05:28And everybody watches the Olympics.
- 1:05:31Not everybody watches CrossFit, right?
- 1:05:34So we can't rely on what's
- 1:05:37worked in the past.
- 1:05:40I think CrossFit's got a
- 1:05:41point here with doing maybe
- 1:05:43do a Manning cast and a regular cast.
- 1:05:45I think that could help the sport grow.
- 1:05:50Here's what has to happen for that,
- 1:05:52CrossFit,
- 1:05:53is you have to have your
- 1:05:54third-party company agree
- 1:05:56to share the stream with both announcers.
- 1:06:02That's what we don't get.
- 1:06:05The Barbell Spin has tried
- 1:06:06to do that with a watch party,
- 1:06:08but they don't have access
- 1:06:10to be able to show the
- 1:06:11video in a CrossFit setting.
- 1:06:16They did get that with Grid.
- 1:06:19And then John got in trouble for it all.
- 1:06:24So whatever happened, that can work,
- 1:06:28but you have to have an
- 1:06:29agreement that the two
- 1:06:31broadcast teams both have
- 1:06:32access to the stream.
- 1:06:35That's why it works on ESPN.
- 1:06:37Because ESPN One and ESPN
- 1:06:39Two share the stream.
- 1:06:40The Mannings do ESPN Two.
- 1:06:42Troy Aikman and Joe Buck do ESPN.
- 1:06:51And Rogue has done that.
- 1:06:54So it's not like it hasn't been done.
- 1:06:56Carolyn was part of the
- 1:06:58Manning cast on Rogue.
- 1:06:59They have a desk where they
- 1:07:00talk about the event from
- 1:07:02athletes and programmers
- 1:07:04and Pat Sherwood.
- 1:07:06And then you have Sean and
- 1:07:09Adrian Conway on the
- 1:07:11traditional broadcast.
- 1:07:13And if you bought the twenty
- 1:07:14five dollar package,
- 1:07:15you could watch either one.
- 1:07:20And you got the same feed for both.
- 1:07:24Do you think that we'll go
- 1:07:25towards having a small fee
- 1:07:28like one ninety nine four
- 1:07:32ninety nine for the weekend
- 1:07:33or something like that?
- 1:07:37Some sort of.
- 1:07:39Paywall.
- 1:07:42There used to be for like
- 1:07:44the Granite Games.
- 1:07:45What was it?
- 1:07:45Flow Elite?
- 1:07:46Yeah,
- 1:07:47but that was like fifty dollars for a
- 1:07:50month.
- 1:07:50It was way too expensive.
- 1:07:51It was way too expensive.
- 1:07:52And you're stuck on a
- 1:07:53subscription if you wanted
- 1:07:54to do it and then you had
- 1:07:55to cancel and forget.
- 1:07:57I have said that if it's a small paywall,
- 1:08:00I would pay for it.
- 1:08:01I get more entertainment out
- 1:08:02of watching CrossFit than
- 1:08:03going to the movies or
- 1:08:05going to a concert.
- 1:08:07I get more bang for my buck.
- 1:08:09watching a crossfit event
- 1:08:10than those other events you
- 1:08:12just have to um you just
- 1:08:17have to decide where you
- 1:08:18want to spend your your
- 1:08:20entertainment budget I
- 1:08:23don't know I like what
- 1:08:25rogue does get the
- 1:08:26traditional broadcast for
- 1:08:27free and if you want all
- 1:08:29the extra add-ons you can
- 1:08:30pay for that I'd like to
- 1:08:32know what the numbers are
- 1:08:33on that like how many
- 1:08:35people buy the extra yeah
- 1:08:46Yeah, I agree with you, CrossFat.
- 1:08:48The Fifty Dollar Flow Elite,
- 1:08:49I did one time, and it sucked.
- 1:08:52It was a very, very bad broadcast.
- 1:08:55I would never, ever do that again.
- 1:09:01But like Rogue,
- 1:09:02you actually could move the
- 1:09:03camera to the lane you
- 1:09:05wanted to see whenever you
- 1:09:08wanted to do it.
- 1:09:11Yeah.
- 1:09:12What Rogue has put together,
- 1:09:13they have figured it out.
- 1:09:17But I'm sure that comes with an expense.
- 1:09:19And that other side,
- 1:09:20to pay for that expense,
- 1:09:22if there was a twenty five
- 1:09:23dollar fee for the weekend,
- 1:09:25I would pay for it if I got
- 1:09:26what Rogue gives me.
- 1:09:29Four different camera angles,
- 1:09:31one camera that I can move.
- 1:09:33And two different broadcasts.
- 1:09:42Uh.
- 1:09:44Nicole,
- 1:09:44if we were guaranteed the ability
- 1:09:46to watch all the athletes
- 1:09:47or the ones we want to watch, I'd pay.
- 1:09:50It's always a bummer when
- 1:09:51you can only see the
- 1:09:52athletes or one side of the field.
- 1:09:57Yeah.
- 1:09:57I think if it's like under ten bucks,
- 1:09:59probably ideally like under five bucks,
- 1:10:02a lot of people would pay for it.
- 1:10:04Yeah.
- 1:10:04And it's extra money for
- 1:10:05whoever is streaming or
- 1:10:07back to the competition or whatever.
- 1:10:09Um,
- 1:10:12I think it could work.
- 1:10:13I know we've been spoiled
- 1:10:14that it's free for all of these years,
- 1:10:16but at some point I feel
- 1:10:19like I wouldn't be surprised to see it.
- 1:10:23Yeah.
- 1:10:25And then CrossFit says,
- 1:10:25I bet it's a lost leader for Rogue.
- 1:10:30But at least they're trying it.
- 1:10:32And if they can get it down,
- 1:10:34maybe it becomes less
- 1:10:35expensive as you move
- 1:10:37forward once they figure it out.
- 1:10:44You'd have to find that
- 1:10:45sweet spot of how much, right?
- 1:10:48Larry young.
- 1:10:48If it's less than a Starbucks coffee.
- 1:10:50Yeah, for sure.
- 1:10:56I'm a bad person to answer that because I,
- 1:10:59I love watching CrossFit.
- 1:11:00And so I am going to,
- 1:11:02I'm going to pay to watch it.
- 1:11:06I just am.
- 1:11:07I'm like,
- 1:11:09that's why I'm a member of a
- 1:11:10couple of channels.
- 1:11:11That's why I,
- 1:11:13Because I want to be able to
- 1:11:15watch what I want to watch
- 1:11:16when I want to watch it.
- 1:11:18And I want to support,
- 1:11:19especially the Rogue thing.
- 1:11:20I will pay for that every
- 1:11:21year because of what they are,
- 1:11:23the innovations they are
- 1:11:24putting together.
- 1:11:25I would love to see that
- 1:11:26flourish in some way.
- 1:11:28I paid and I didn't even
- 1:11:29watch it just because I was
- 1:11:30already there.
- 1:11:31And I just paid the support.
- 1:11:33Jay Birch agrees.
- 1:11:34Paying for the tailgate was
- 1:11:35worth it last year.
- 1:11:36Both last year and the year
- 1:11:38before were phenomenal.
- 1:11:40Having the alternate broadcast...
- 1:11:42with pat sherwood and all
- 1:11:44the people at the desk and
- 1:11:46again including our own
- 1:11:47carolyn prevo um with annie
- 1:11:50thor's daughter with josh
- 1:11:51bridges who programmed the
- 1:11:52event uh dan bailey rich
- 1:11:55froning you get to hear all
- 1:11:56their perspectives it was
- 1:11:57well well worth it a
- 1:12:02barbell spin it was only a
- 1:12:03dollar ninety nine to watch
- 1:12:04syndicate and I messed up
- 1:12:08my thing and hit paid five
- 1:12:09bucks um anyway
- 1:12:14So last factor fiction,
- 1:12:20you missed an athlete
- 1:12:21because they didn't
- 1:12:22participate in the game season this year.
- 1:12:29Fiction.
- 1:12:34Like we miss like where you missed,
- 1:12:37like you felt like you were
- 1:12:38cheated out of watching the
- 1:12:40event this year because one
- 1:12:42of the athletes that set
- 1:12:42out didn't compete.
- 1:12:45I mean, like there are some notable,
- 1:12:50especially I think on the female side,
- 1:12:52that more so on the female side,
- 1:12:54I think that didn't compete this year.
- 1:12:56That would play a big role at the games.
- 1:13:00Like it's too bad that they're,
- 1:13:03like I miss seeing them compete,
- 1:13:05like obviously,
- 1:13:05or competing against them.
- 1:13:10So at first I thought this is fact for me.
- 1:13:14I did not miss.
- 1:13:16As I was watching the events,
- 1:13:18I didn't even notice people
- 1:13:20weren't there.
- 1:13:21But then again,
- 1:13:22I am very American centric.
- 1:13:24I am not European centric
- 1:13:25where it was impacted much greater.
- 1:13:28And so as I thought about it, I thought,
- 1:13:30you know what?
- 1:13:31I actually do miss that
- 1:13:34Elisa Fuliano is not going to the games.
- 1:13:37That's the one I miss
- 1:13:38because she showed up when
- 1:13:40I don't believe she should
- 1:13:41have been allowed,
- 1:13:42but she showed up and
- 1:13:43showed she was one of the
- 1:13:44best athletes on the floor
- 1:13:46at two separate events,
- 1:13:47and we don't get to see her at the games.
- 1:13:49In the past two years,
- 1:13:50she's gotten better and better.
- 1:13:54And so now I do feel like
- 1:13:57I'm missing her coming to
- 1:13:59the games to show what she can do.
- 1:14:02But then there's like
- 1:14:03another part of me that's
- 1:14:04like anytime in any sport
- 1:14:06that people get injured or don't compete,
- 1:14:12you know,
- 1:14:12it's an opportunity for new
- 1:14:13athletes to arise and step
- 1:14:17up and get their names known.
- 1:14:20So I don't know how many
- 1:14:21rookies there are this year at the games,
- 1:14:23but there's definitely a lot that,
- 1:14:24you know,
- 1:14:24have been close and now they're
- 1:14:26going to be getting the opportunity.
- 1:14:27So I know the field has
- 1:14:29decreased to thirty,
- 1:14:31but I still think that
- 1:14:32Anytime there's new faces,
- 1:14:35it's also good for the sport.
- 1:14:39So we have a CrossFit fact.
- 1:14:41We don't have a female contender, Laura.
- 1:14:45Spin fiction.
- 1:14:48As I was watching it, I could tell you,
- 1:14:49I would tell you fiction.
- 1:14:51Like I didn't feel like I
- 1:14:52was missing anything
- 1:14:53watching the competitions.
- 1:14:54We still got great races.
- 1:14:56We still had people to cheer for.
- 1:14:58I didn't feel like I was
- 1:14:59missing anything in those moments,
- 1:15:02but as I ponder it,
- 1:15:03I do feel like Elisa showed us.
- 1:15:07She should be a contender this year,
- 1:15:09but she chose not to be.
- 1:15:10So now we miss out on the
- 1:15:12end of her story.
- 1:15:15I still miss seeing some of
- 1:15:18the athletes compete,
- 1:15:19but seeing them compete at
- 1:15:20the WFP also fills that void, I guess,
- 1:15:26of missing them on the
- 1:15:29floor and seeing how fit
- 1:15:30they are and stuff like that.
- 1:15:31Thanks, Larry.
- 1:15:37Thank you so much, Larry.
- 1:15:37Thank you.
- 1:15:40I don't know.
- 1:15:40I just,
- 1:15:41if you chose to not participate in
- 1:15:44the season, like good riddance to you,
- 1:15:48I guess.
- 1:15:48I don't like it for me.
- 1:15:50It's I don't miss them.
- 1:15:53Even Laura.
- 1:15:55And I think that for us, Jamie,
- 1:15:57like we focused on the underdogs,
- 1:16:00like our whole podcast life.
- 1:16:02Yeah.
- 1:16:03So that like all those opportunities.
- 1:16:07Yeah, for sure.
- 1:16:08Like, that's probably why I didn't miss it,
- 1:16:10especially here in the States.
- 1:16:12Cause I've interviewed so
- 1:16:13many of those athletes for
- 1:16:15so many years and seeing
- 1:16:16them get their opportunity,
- 1:16:18seeing the Lucy's get their opportunity.
- 1:16:20See like, yeah, I think that's, yeah,
- 1:16:29that's how I answer it anyway.
- 1:16:32Um,
- 1:16:32barbell spin WFP does not fill that void.
- 1:16:36For me, it does.
- 1:16:39I liked watching the WFP event.
- 1:16:41Um, like I,
- 1:16:43I enjoyed watching the athletes
- 1:16:44go after it.
- 1:16:45Um, because I ended like great one there,
- 1:16:48there was some good storylines, staying,
- 1:16:50y'all getting back on the
- 1:16:51podium on the men's side, Austin,
- 1:16:54you know,
- 1:16:55beating Jeff in an online or not, not, um,
- 1:16:58in an in-person competition.
- 1:17:02I thought it was great to watch.
- 1:17:05Yeah, I agree.
- 1:17:08I was a fan of the WFP.
- 1:17:09I don't think we have the
- 1:17:10true essence of what it is
- 1:17:12yet until we see how it
- 1:17:14develops through a whole season.
- 1:17:16But we'll see.
- 1:17:21And I just think that you
- 1:17:23get the people that are
- 1:17:24doing the season of the
- 1:17:24CrossFit and then you get
- 1:17:25the people that are doing
- 1:17:28the WFP only and it's almost...
- 1:17:30almost like two leagues are
- 1:17:31competing final like in
- 1:17:33person it would be like two
- 1:17:34two professional leagues
- 1:17:36and all of a sudden all the
- 1:17:37champions are there and
- 1:17:39they're going against each
- 1:17:40other and there's almost
- 1:17:41like well which one's gonna
- 1:17:43win the people that are
- 1:17:44doing that league or this
- 1:17:45league um and I think that
- 1:17:48creates a storyline um so
- 1:17:50like on the men's side you
- 1:17:51had people that were doing
- 1:17:53the game season that were
- 1:17:55successful and then same
- 1:17:56thing on the woman's side
- 1:17:57but it'll be interesting as
- 1:17:59the season goes
- 1:18:01If anything flip-flops.
- 1:18:05Spin comes back with,
- 1:18:07but Austin and Adler going to the game.
- 1:18:08So is DB.
- 1:18:10So we'll get to see them all again.
- 1:18:12And Craig agrees with Jamie.
- 1:18:14Thanks, Craig.
- 1:18:16All right.
- 1:18:16Well, speaking of spin,
- 1:18:17the next item on our list
- 1:18:18is he was super sleuthing
- 1:18:20again and appears to have
- 1:18:23found the site for the run row run.
- 1:18:29And it is at a,
- 1:18:31I think it's called foundation park.
- 1:18:34It's been a couple of days
- 1:18:35since I've read this.
- 1:18:36Um, but here's a picture of it.
- 1:18:37I'm just show my notes.
- 1:18:39Um, here is the picture of the park,
- 1:18:44maybe something landing.
- 1:18:46That's what it is.
- 1:18:49Um, yeah, on the games website,
- 1:18:52if you look at the first
- 1:18:53event that they've released,
- 1:18:54like if you go to the, um,
- 1:18:56CrossFit games workouts.
- 1:18:59Um,
- 1:18:59like the one event is released and it
- 1:19:01says the location of it is
- 1:19:03Jennings landing.
- 1:19:05Yep.
- 1:19:06That's what it is.
- 1:19:07And then, um,
- 1:19:09if you go up the Hudson river,
- 1:19:10there's a clearing where
- 1:19:12you could at the exact two mile mark.
- 1:19:15So it could be there because
- 1:19:18if you go to the turnaround
- 1:19:19and come back for four miles,
- 1:19:22then you have the, the four, four, two,
- 1:19:25two, four, three, two, four, three, two.
- 1:19:30But here it is on the Hudson
- 1:19:33with a nice clearing.
- 1:19:34And then he also provided on the spin,
- 1:19:37you can go check it out,
- 1:19:39the Google Maps version,
- 1:19:41where you can see here's
- 1:19:42mile two and four with the rowers.
- 1:19:45Here's the turnaround at mile three.
- 1:19:48Here's mile one and five and
- 1:19:49the start finish.
- 1:19:52Everything makes sense.
- 1:19:54And he's usually pretty
- 1:19:56accurate on these guesses.
- 1:19:59So...
- 1:20:01That was pretty cool.
- 1:20:05Yeah, good sleuthing.
- 1:20:07Clock,
- 1:20:07rowing on machines on the bank of a
- 1:20:09river is just a goofy look.
- 1:20:13Wouldn't it be cool if they
- 1:20:14actually had to put a boat
- 1:20:15in the water and row on the Hudson?
- 1:20:18Yes.
- 1:20:18Do you remember when,
- 1:20:20was it Filthy One Fifty did it?
- 1:20:23Yeah, I think it was.
- 1:20:26Yeah, that was insane.
- 1:20:27I love that.
- 1:20:32I would like that.
- 1:20:36So there is that.
- 1:20:37Tia says in a YouTube video
- 1:20:39she was very sick at the
- 1:20:39High Rocks World
- 1:20:40Championships and didn't do
- 1:20:42much the week prior and
- 1:20:44hasn't moved in the week since.
- 1:20:47Carolyn warned me that her
- 1:20:49not moving could be
- 1:20:50different than my not moving.
- 1:20:51Yeah.
- 1:20:54um but uh but it wasn't of
- 1:20:57what I was appreciative of
- 1:20:58is she kind of got to the
- 1:20:59point in the video and
- 1:21:00actually said what happened
- 1:21:02and not make us guess and
- 1:21:06if you were with us last
- 1:21:07week this made me ask the
- 1:21:10factor fiction do you think
- 1:21:12this assures us because she
- 1:21:14had to withdraw from the
- 1:21:15world championships and she
- 1:21:16will definitely now do the
- 1:21:17crossfit games and everybody said fact
- 1:21:23You guys did.
- 1:21:24The chat did not necessarily
- 1:21:25agree with you.
- 1:21:28She sounded sick, man.
- 1:21:30Yeah, she did sound sick.
- 1:21:32I hope she does the games.
- 1:21:33I hope she's going to be able to do it.
- 1:21:39But think about this.
- 1:21:40She's gone eight, seven years, nine years,
- 1:21:45nine years of CrossFit
- 1:21:46games and never been sick
- 1:21:48or hurt at the CrossFit games.
- 1:21:53Her back was sore.
- 1:21:55Her back wasn't great.
- 1:22:06Her back being not great
- 1:22:08just means that people were
- 1:22:09a little bit close to her.
- 1:22:16Athletes play through injuries,
- 1:22:19but to get to go where you...
- 1:22:22don't have to withdraw from
- 1:22:23anything in nine years is insane.
- 1:22:25It is insane.
- 1:22:29That is just unbelievable.
- 1:22:32I've been saying for years
- 1:22:32that I was not picking her
- 1:22:33because some year it had to happen,
- 1:22:36and it just never did.
- 1:22:40But maybe this is the year.
- 1:22:41Jodi, Lynn is trying to start rumors.
- 1:22:43Yeah, I don't think that's it.
- 1:22:50If that affects your voice
- 1:22:52and your throat.
- 1:22:56Depends on how sick you are
- 1:22:57in the morning.
- 1:23:01The other thing is in the
- 1:23:03same Red Bull Rancher event
- 1:23:05that Ariel Lowen won,
- 1:23:07apparently Guy Mijeros
- 1:23:11dislocated his shoulder.
- 1:23:14If you've not seen the video,
- 1:23:15like Ariel does a video
- 1:23:16where you can see the whole thing.
- 1:23:18It's a fun race to watch.
- 1:23:20it is that looked fun yeah
- 1:23:23it was really cool to watch
- 1:23:25it's like obstacles with a
- 1:23:27little bit of strength like
- 1:23:29I wouldn't want to watch it
- 1:23:30week after week but for
- 1:23:31like a one-off it was
- 1:23:33really cool did they win
- 1:23:34anything like money-wise uh
- 1:23:35she got a big belt buckle I
- 1:23:40think there was prize money
- 1:23:41I think there's checks at
- 1:23:42in the podium pictures it
- 1:23:46was sponsored by red bull
- 1:23:48and they have more money than god
- 1:23:51I've been watching this drive to survive.
- 1:23:53Like, they have so much money.
- 1:23:56So much money.
- 1:24:02Just to kind of let you guys
- 1:24:04know this week,
- 1:24:05I'll be reviewing some
- 1:24:07content that came out this week,
- 1:24:09this weekend.
- 1:24:11Road to the Games, a new one,
- 1:24:12came out with the Australian athletes,
- 1:24:15Ricky J. Crouch and Matty Sturtz.
- 1:24:21The new Hiller video came out today,
- 1:24:24crossing my two fandoms,
- 1:24:26and my mind's getting blown
- 1:24:28because my Chicago Bears
- 1:24:29podcast is doing a video of
- 1:24:31the same thing in Shepherdstown,
- 1:24:36West Virginia with Tyson
- 1:24:38that Hiller was there for.
- 1:24:39So it's going to be
- 1:24:40interesting to see the two perspectives.
- 1:24:42And then Lydia Fish,
- 1:24:45I'll talk about that a
- 1:24:46little more in detail as well.
- 1:24:50Uh, there is a pit throwdown this weekend.
- 1:24:55It's yeah, it's pit fest.
- 1:24:56So the pit pit team throwdown,
- 1:24:59the collegiate throwdown, um,
- 1:25:02and pit training league
- 1:25:04championship is all this weekend.
- 1:25:06So Thursday is the teen and
- 1:25:08cop and collegiate.
- 1:25:10Um, well,
- 1:25:11I guess Thursday and Friday is that,
- 1:25:12and then Saturday is Thursday.
- 1:25:16I don't,
- 1:25:16I don't remember exactly how it goes,
- 1:25:18but yeah, the teens are Thursday, Friday.
- 1:25:21Um, and we are actually redemption.
- 1:25:23We're going to,
- 1:25:23we actually have two teens going.
- 1:25:26And then we also, um,
- 1:25:28work with them and we're
- 1:25:29going to run a community workout at,
- 1:25:32in the morning on Thursday.
- 1:25:35So we programmed a workout
- 1:25:36and we're going to run it there.
- 1:25:38That'll be fun.
- 1:25:40Nice little opportunity for us.
- 1:25:47clock you're you're messing
- 1:25:49with me you're messing with
- 1:25:52me uh larry young I'd sell
- 1:25:55out red bull games there's
- 1:26:00quite a bit of red bull
- 1:26:02athletes now I think in our
- 1:26:03space there wasn't many
- 1:26:04like a couple years ago I
- 1:26:05think it was koski laura
- 1:26:08were like the two notable
- 1:26:09ones but I've been seeing a
- 1:26:10lot more I think
- 1:26:12I think Victor Hoffer is Red Bull.
- 1:26:15Noah wears Red Bull.
- 1:26:18There's, there's quite a few now.
- 1:26:21So that's like a, a lot of major,
- 1:26:23that's a major sponsor.
- 1:26:25Yeah.
- 1:26:25I wonder if Ariel's in talks.
- 1:26:27Cause why would they invite
- 1:26:28her to their games?
- 1:26:31Right.
- 1:26:31And Guy probably too.
- 1:26:36Um, I mean,
- 1:26:36those are two good people to have,
- 1:26:38especially with social media.
- 1:26:39Um,
- 1:26:41posting and stuff like that.
- 1:26:42Popular athletes.
- 1:26:46Uh, Jaybridge is Alexis Red Bull.
- 1:26:49I have not seen her in Red Bull stuff.
- 1:26:57Um, where was it?
- 1:27:00Um,
- 1:27:01someone said that Guy got hurt jumping
- 1:27:03for the buzzer at that.
- 1:27:07Yeah.
- 1:27:07I guess shoulder as he, uh,
- 1:27:11Dough for the buzzer.
- 1:27:17Larry Young,
- 1:27:18Jamie in that tank making me
- 1:27:19think I need to hit some buys and tries.
- 1:27:23You know what?
- 1:27:24I'm seeing your gym,
- 1:27:26your garage gym get better and better.
- 1:27:29I need to visit Texas and
- 1:27:31hang out for a couple of
- 1:27:32days and get some workouts in there.
- 1:27:34Larry Young.
- 1:27:36And then your little like
- 1:27:37cabinets with hidden walls behind them.
- 1:27:43Hayley Adams is Red Bull.
- 1:27:47And Reebok.
- 1:27:48Reebok.
- 1:27:52She could be Reebok for
- 1:27:54shoes and then has to be
- 1:27:55Red Bull for like.
- 1:27:56She's Adidas.
- 1:27:58Or Adidas.
- 1:27:58Yeah, sorry, Adidas.
- 1:27:59Sorry, Adidas.
- 1:28:00Yeah.
- 1:28:00Yeah.
- 1:28:03CrossFit.
- 1:28:04Larry, don't say too much.
- 1:28:05She'll be wearing a turtleneck next show.
- 1:28:07Well, that'd be the same as Laura,
- 1:28:08because Laura is Adidas as well,
- 1:28:10and then with the Red Bull hat,
- 1:28:12so probably a similar connection.
- 1:28:15It's been a pretty good year for Adidas,
- 1:28:18with Bill getting into the
- 1:28:19games and Haley, Jorge, Ty Jenkins.
- 1:28:26Yeah.
- 1:28:27They picked the right table to start with.
- 1:28:30All those young guns are
- 1:28:31making it to the games.
- 1:28:35I got mine on right now.
- 1:28:37I've always liked Adidas.
- 1:28:40It's a nice company.
- 1:28:41Larry says, come on down.
- 1:28:45Yeah.
- 1:28:46All right.
- 1:28:48I think there was one.
- 1:28:49I don't know.
- 1:28:49I think that was it.
- 1:28:50I think that was it.
- 1:28:54Again,
- 1:28:55tomorrow I'll tell you the story of
- 1:28:56my mechanic and how I had
- 1:28:58to break into my own car this weekend.
- 1:29:01And don't forget to like and
- 1:29:04subscribe to the channel.
- 1:29:06And we got a new member tonight,
- 1:29:09Larry Young.
- 1:29:10So cool that he did that.
- 1:29:13Thank you for that.
- 1:29:15We've got about a handful in
- 1:29:16the last week or so.
- 1:29:18Who's going to win tonight's
- 1:29:20basketball game?
- 1:29:21Pacers or OKC?
- 1:29:25I was going to go with
- 1:29:26Pacers until my ESPN alert
- 1:29:28came up saying that
- 1:29:29Halliburton had to be
- 1:29:30carried off the floor.
- 1:29:31I did see that.
- 1:29:34So now I don't know.
- 1:29:36but they're up one at halftime.
- 1:29:40I wanted to ask you,
- 1:29:41that's one thing this week.
- 1:29:44Why can't Edmonton score in
- 1:29:45the damn finals?
- 1:29:48Connor McDavid is one of the
- 1:29:50greatest players to ever
- 1:29:51play the game and he can't
- 1:29:53score in the finals.
- 1:29:55I hate the Florida Panthers.
- 1:29:56They're good though.
- 1:29:59I hate the Florida Panthers and you're,
- 1:30:04your Canadian team didn't help me out.
- 1:30:06None.
- 1:30:08No, I was rooting for them.
- 1:30:09I tried, tried giving them positive vibes,
- 1:30:12but yeah, that Florida team was good.
- 1:30:15You know, it's going to be crazy as,
- 1:30:19and after tonight we're
- 1:30:21down to just baseball.
- 1:30:24No, the WNBA.
- 1:30:26I've been watching a bunch.
- 1:30:27That's a regular season.
- 1:30:29We've had all these months of playoffs,
- 1:30:31and now we're just done.
- 1:30:33NBA, NWSL,
- 1:30:36all the women's sports are coming now.
- 1:30:39You just don't watch as much,
- 1:30:40but this is prime for me
- 1:30:43right now to watch.
- 1:30:44Listen, I watch more WNBA than I do NBA.
- 1:30:48Me too.
- 1:30:48I bought the league pass,
- 1:30:51so I've been watching all
- 1:30:52the games on my phone.
- 1:30:54Have you seen on Netflix the
- 1:30:58Shaquille O'Neal
- 1:30:59documentary called Power Move?
- 1:31:01I have not.
- 1:31:04We'll finish with this.
- 1:31:06So basically Shaq came into
- 1:31:08the league as a Reebok
- 1:31:09athlete and has stayed with
- 1:31:11them ever since.
- 1:31:13Allen Iverson got a lifetime
- 1:31:14contract from Reebok a
- 1:31:16couple years after that.
- 1:31:17So he's still with Reebok.
- 1:31:19In
- 1:31:25So Shaq has been named the
- 1:31:28president of basketball
- 1:31:29operations to bring back
- 1:31:31the Reebok shoe in this documentary.
- 1:31:33It's six episode series,
- 1:31:35and it's him recruiting
- 1:31:37young athletes to the
- 1:31:39Reebok brand to try to build it back up.
- 1:31:43And so they, they're trying,
- 1:31:45they can't afford to go out
- 1:31:47and get the big hitter.
- 1:31:48So they're trying to get, um,
- 1:31:50they got angel Reese.
- 1:31:52I was getting to that.
- 1:31:54So they're focusing on the
- 1:31:56WNBA and younger athletes
- 1:31:59and using NILs to get them
- 1:32:01while they're in college
- 1:32:03before they get there to hopefully.
- 1:32:06But Angel Reese debuted their new shoe.
- 1:32:10It's the first time a woman
- 1:32:12had ever debuted a new shoe
- 1:32:14for any basketball shoe company.
- 1:32:17And they were sweet.
- 1:32:18They were like metallic silver.
- 1:32:20I don't know if you saw them.
- 1:32:23I'm a I'm a shoe whore I
- 1:32:24love shoes of all kinds but
- 1:32:27I went to look they were so
- 1:32:28well you have sabrina that
- 1:32:31has a shoe asia has a shoe
- 1:32:32was it before those two or
- 1:32:34the first for reebok it's
- 1:32:36no it's the first time the
- 1:32:38woman the woman who has the shoe
- 1:32:42Okay, so Asia has a shoe,
- 1:32:44but it's a version of their
- 1:32:46shoe that's her signature brand.
- 1:32:49But a male athlete debuted it first.
- 1:32:53This is the first time a
- 1:32:54woman was the first to wear
- 1:32:55it on the court.
- 1:32:58And then she wore the base model.
- 1:33:01Now they're making her like
- 1:33:04she has three designs that
- 1:33:05are her shoe now.
- 1:33:07But it's still the same like base model.
- 1:33:10It just has a different look.
- 1:33:14It's called the engine Reebok engine,
- 1:33:16engine a and I went to look for them.
- 1:33:19They're all sold out.
- 1:33:25So anyway.
- 1:33:34Anyway, there we go.
- 1:33:37Angel Reese is a tough face of a shoe.
- 1:33:39I think she's a great face for a shoe.
- 1:33:42I think the rivalry is
- 1:33:43getting her attention,
- 1:33:44and I think that that is
- 1:33:46all that people care about.
- 1:33:53That's basically what New
- 1:33:55Balance did with Cooper Flagg.
- 1:33:57Yeah.
- 1:33:58It's cool.
- 1:33:58It's cool meeting these young,
- 1:33:59talented athletes.
- 1:34:02I don't think it's a bad production.
- 1:34:04Anyway, I enjoyed it.
- 1:34:06Go check it out.
- 1:34:10It was much a happier
- 1:34:12documentary than the Brett
- 1:34:13Favre documentary that made
- 1:34:15me want to vomit.
- 1:34:17So that guy's a scumbag,
- 1:34:20and I will say that going to my grave,
- 1:34:22and it's not just because he's a packer.
- 1:34:25Stealing money from the poor
- 1:34:27is about as low as low can get,
- 1:34:31allegedly.
- 1:34:34With that...
- 1:34:35Thank you for joining us tonight.
- 1:34:37Don't forget to like and subscribe.
- 1:34:39Thank you in the chat for being here.
- 1:34:41Thank you to Rafter and for
- 1:34:42jumping on with us to talk team.
- 1:34:44And with that,
- 1:34:45I hope you all have a great
- 1:34:46night and a great week ahead.
- 1:34:48We'll see everybody next week on Sunday,
- 1:34:51Sunday, Sunday night, CrossFit talk.
- 1:34:54Bye guys.
