- 0:02All right, boom, we are live the the trucking truth.
- 0:05This person named the trucking truth.
- 0:07He has been patiently waiting. I'm going to put his comments up
- 0:10right now. Rick Mass, the trucking truth.
- 0:12He says he's all by myself. He was waiting, he was patiently
- 0:17waiting for us to start the Rick Mass show.
- 0:19And now we have that's the great Rick Mass.
- 0:22I'm Charlie, Marlowe and Rick, who do we have a lot to talk
- 0:26about this morning. Buddy.
- 0:27Yes we do, babe. And hello, trucking truth.
- 0:29Now you're not by yourself any longer, dude.
- 0:31Welcome aboard. Yeah, we got the trucking truth,
- 0:35we got the booba. He's also he or she, waiting to
- 0:40break it all down. So let's get right to it at the
- 0:43end. We'll we'll do the pleasantries
- 0:44and I'll ask about your weekend. But Rick, there's, there's too
- 0:47much NASCAR to talk about. Let's just start like this.
- 0:50I'm just going to ask you a basic question.
- 0:53Did NASCAR get it right with their call, with their ruling
- 0:58that Christopher Bell rode the wall?
- 1:00And thus William Byron is in and Christopher Bell is out.
- 1:05The short answer is yeah. The long answer is, well, let's
- 1:08let's explain why. Why it's yeah, dude, the rule is
- 1:12the rule. OK, The the the the 20 car when
- 1:15he got into the wall. I mean, I understand that he ran
- 1:17in there and he got by 43 got in the wall.
- 1:20Dude, we all do what the 43 car was doing, right?
- 1:24We all know what the one in the three car was doing.
- 1:26It's it's called, you know, manipulated or whatever you want
- 1:29to call it. But anyhow, when it when when
- 1:31Bell got into the wall band and you could you could see it from
- 1:35the in car camera dude, if he just eased up a little bit,
- 1:38pulled it off the wall, got back in it wide open, you know, all
- 1:42he had to worry about was a 43 pass and the 43 was not going to
- 1:46pass him right. The 43 had already had a tire
- 1:50going down and let him go. So you know, once he got into
- 1:54the wall, if he just just turned the left and got off of it man
- 1:58and got back in the gas, it wouldn't have happened.
- 2:01But you know, NASCAR paints themselves into a corner, dude,
- 2:06with these rules, right? And when you have a rule, you've
- 2:09got to stick to it. I mean, you know, damn, he, he,
- 2:13it's like, dude, get off the wall.
- 2:15That's, that's not going to work for you.
- 2:17We all know it's a rule now, right?
- 2:19And nobody's tested that. Nobody's tested that rule since
- 2:23they, they put it in. So, you know, they that, you
- 2:27know, I think Kyle Petty said it right last night.
- 2:29Listen, they stuck. They did what the rule says, you
- 2:31know, forget about it going to going to Phoenix, but, you know,
- 2:36we're not going to forget about it.
- 2:37No, no, no, no. The fans are not letting us
- 2:39forget about it. We I kept up with that ban
- 2:42between the presidential election of NASCAR last night,
- 2:44this morning, You know, my eyes are just buzzing.
- 2:46They're just buzzing reading all this stuff.
- 2:48So yeah, to answer your question overall, generally, yeah, They
- 2:52got it right, Charlie. I think what's interesting and I
- 2:56I went and watched Elton Sawyer's press conference last
- 2:59night. It was about 12 minutes or so
- 3:01where he explained everything. And clearly it seemed like
- 3:06NASCAR only ruled on the safety issue.
- 3:11They called it the wall ride in terms of Christopher Bell.
- 3:14And I think it took 27 minutes from the end of the race for
- 3:19NASCAR's ruling to be announced, whether it was on Twitter or the
- 3:23NBC broadcast. But after watching Alton Sawyer,
- 3:27it seems like they didn't take into account at all any of the
- 3:31race manipulation, any of the team play.
- 3:34So we could still have some penalties coming out maybe on
- 3:38Wednesday for some of these cars that were setting up the
- 3:42blockade for each other. But that's what I find
- 3:45interesting too, because as I'm waiting, I'm thinking, well, OK,
- 3:49clearly it was some semblance of a wall ride, right?
- 3:53How are they going to basically take that into account?
- 3:56But also there was team play on both sides.
- 4:00Are they going to take all these things into account?
- 4:02It sounds like they just ruled on the wall ride.
- 4:06Dude, when I was sitting there and it was taking so long to me,
- 4:10to me, the wall ride was like pretty simple.
- 4:13It was a pretty cut and dry yes or no answer.
- 4:16I, you know, I thought, you know, when I, when I saw it, I'm
- 4:19like, dude, he rode the wall. Now I didn't know.
- 4:22You know, the, the thing of it is, I didn't know the wording of
- 4:25the rule. I didn't know if they said you
- 4:27can't gain positions by riding the wall.
- 4:29It's kind of like going below the yellow line at Talladega
- 4:32Daytona. To gain a position, you go below
- 4:34the yellow line, but you can't gain a position right long as
- 4:37you come back up. I didn't know how that rule
- 4:39read. Yeah, as far as getting into the
- 4:42wall, evidently it reads you can't get in the wall and just
- 4:44keep on going, right, Whether you pass somebody or not.
- 4:47So I'm sitting there waiting and waiting and waiting patiently
- 4:50like everybody. And I'm like, they must be
- 4:53reviewing the one and three card deal, right?
- 4:56They must be reviewing that. But then I'm thinking, well,
- 4:59they can review that, but that will help.
- 5:01No burn on the 24. The 24 did nothing wrong, right?
- 5:05He was the one in front of these two guys.
- 5:07They were doing their shenanigans in behind the 24.
- 5:09You know, keep that all bound up, mixed up.
- 5:12So, you know, it was very confusing to me why it took so
- 5:15long to to to come up with that rule.
- 5:18But and that's course defense. You know, this is a big time
- 5:21that's ruling. I mean, that's a big ruling,
- 5:23dude. You put a team in, you put a
- 5:25team in championship deal and you take one out.
- 5:29No matter what their rule, whichever way they rule it,
- 5:32somebody's going in and somebody's going out.
- 5:34So I understand. Probably that's the reason they
- 5:36were very, maybe they went back and read the rule two or three
- 5:39times. I don't know, right.
- 5:41Do we know if it how that rule reads, Charlie?
- 5:43Because I don't know. And here I am a professional
- 5:46trying to teach the racing fans in world how this goes and I do
- 5:49not know how that rule reads. I made a mistake.
- 5:52I should have did my homework last night.
- 5:54I'm not Larry McReynolds. Hey, I'm not either.
- 5:57I'll tell you what, next time I ask you a question, make sure
- 6:00you talk for about two to three minutes and I will look up the
- 6:03rule as you're as you're talking there.
- 6:07I think what's fascinating about it with the with the sea bell
- 6:10deal, Clearly it was a wall ride, but it was not the same as
- 6:17the hail melon with Ross Chastain.
- 6:20Ross Chastain in his brain said, I used to do this on the video
- 6:24games. Carl Edwards tried this a bunch
- 6:27of years ago. I'm going to do this because I
- 6:29have to do this to advance to Phoenix.
- 6:32And he did it two years ago. Seabel was different because it
- 6:35was a racing move, right? He goes to pass Bubba, he gets
- 6:40loose, he hits the wall. He's on the wall for a while.
- 6:43But I think everybody can agree. Then he, he hung on the wall
- 6:48longer than he needed to, right? If he did, if he did, kind of
- 6:51skated off the wall a little bit.
- 6:53I think it's all good. So to me, it's not.
- 6:55It's not exactly the same as as Ross Chastain, but I think he
- 6:59hung on the wall just long enough to look pretty clearly
- 7:03guilty. Yeah, he did.
- 7:05And that's that goes back to my original statement, Charlotte,
- 7:08all the dude had to do turn it left, get off the wall and get
- 7:11back start finished life. That's all a dude had to do.
- 7:14And I know he knows that now at this point, but he got in there.
- 7:17He he knew he passed the car. He had to keep cars behind him,
- 7:20right. So in the moment, you know, he's
- 7:23in the wall. Hell, I just keep it wide open
- 7:25now some that way nobody, nobody could get by me till we get back
- 7:28to the checkered flag. But you know, I'm sitting there
- 7:31as a fan watching, knowing what the rule is Now I'm like, dude,
- 7:34you just cost yourself you, you, you just cost yourself a shot at
- 7:38the championship. But I mean, I know that's kind
- 7:40of hard and tough. But, and again, NASCAR, you
- 7:43know, they, they, they make these rules and they plant
- 7:45themselves in a, in a place where man, it's just, it's going
- 7:49to be damn if you do and damn if you don't.
- 7:50And that's, you know, it was just, it was just man, what a
- 7:53unique circumstance yesterday. And I, you know, and they, they,
- 7:57they talk about, well, I'll let you go ahead with, with your
- 7:59questions and stuff. No, you can go ahead.
- 8:02But I also I have the I have the actual language from NASCAR.
- 8:07OK, here we go. So this is from motorsport.com.
- 8:10It's an article written January 31st, 2023.
- 8:13So here it is. I will read.
- 8:15It says it says NASCAR issued the following update to teams
- 8:19this week regarding the Chastain move quote.
- 8:23NASCAR will deem any future use of that maneuver as unsafe, per
- 8:29Section 10.5 dot 2.6 dot A of the NASCAR rule book.
- 8:35To ensure that our competitors do not employ strategies that
- 8:38may compromise the safety of themselves, other competitors or
- 8:42fans, NASCAR will issue a time penalty to any vehicle that
- 8:47attempts an unsafe maneuver such as the one performed at
- 8:51Martinsville. It says this is not a new rule.
- 8:55The safety language has existed in the rule book and following
- 8:59Martinsville we evaluated it and chose to officiate consistently
- 9:03for the final race of 2022. Since the end of the season, we
- 9:07have worked with the drivers and teams to discuss the best way to
- 9:10officiate, slash interpret the rule for 2023 and we believe
- 9:15this is the right interpretation for the safety of our
- 9:17competitors moving forward. Now I could go back and actually
- 9:21read also Rick section 10.5 dot 2.6 dot A, but I think everybody
- 9:25got got the drill there. You can't do the wall ride.
- 9:29You just can't do the wall. I doesn't do it.
- 9:31So there there's no language about advancing or not advancing
- 9:34your position. OK, that was my big question.
- 9:36Because if you advance the position, then like the yellow
- 9:40line rule that it shouldn't come into effect, but it's it's
- 9:43solely based on safety and getting into the wall and doing
- 9:46that. And they're very specific.
- 9:48You can't do that. So, you know, you know, it's
- 9:51controversial, Charlie, but you know, it's there is there it is.
- 9:54There's a rule. I mean, and and and you know, I
- 9:57bashed NASCAR just like the rest of them when they're wrong.
- 10:00But on this one, the rule states that.
- 10:03And you know, I'm so sure of it that when I was watching the
- 10:06race, during the race, I'm thinking, dude, get off the
- 10:08wall, get off the wall. Then it was over.
- 10:09I'm like, dude, you just cost, you just cost yourself, right?
- 10:13You just did it. You just knocked yourself out of
- 10:16the championship deal by doing that.
- 10:17And you know, that's just that's just the way it is that doubt
- 10:21that you you change the rule, but.
- 10:24OK, so I actually have I have the rule.
- 10:27So basically it's kind of a a different interpretation of the
- 10:31actual rule. This isn't too long though, but
- 10:32I think it's interesting. So the wording of 10 dot 5.2 dot
- 10:376.8 is as follows. Quote safety is a top priority
- 10:41for NASCAR and NEM NASCAR event management.
- 10:44Therefore, any violations deemed to compromise the safety of an
- 10:48event or otherwise pose a dangerous risk to the safety of
- 10:51competitors, officials, spectators or others are treated
- 10:55with the highest degree of seriousness.
- 10:57Safety violations will be handled on a case by case basis.
- 11:01So at the end there the old case by case basis.
- 11:04Now look, I, I, I, in my opinion, fairly criticized
- 11:09NASCAR when they deserve it. Also, I think, I think they
- 11:13ruled correctly on the wall ride, but that's all they ruled
- 11:17on, right? And there was a lot of other
- 11:19high jinks going on. And how about this, you can make
- 11:22the case that the only reason Sea Bell rode the Wall is
- 11:28because the Chevy's were were blocking, right?
- 11:32And so Sea Bell had to pull that move out because if Austin
- 11:35Dillon and if, who else was it, Ross Cheston and hell, maybe
- 11:40even Brad Keselowski ends up passing William Byron, well then
- 11:43Sea Bell doesn't have to make that move.
- 11:44So I agree with NASCAR's interpretation of the Wall ride,
- 11:48but there was a whole hell of a lot more going on.
- 11:52Yeah, and we go back to manipulation, right.
- 11:55And I think back so much of that Richmond race when they come out
- 11:58from manipulation rule. I didn't understand the
- 12:01manipulation rule, OK, when they came out with it.
- 12:03We've had it for some number of years now, you know.
- 12:08But we, what is what does it mean to manipulate the race?
- 12:13Well, hell, you're always manipulating the race.
- 12:15I'm not sure how well they can do that, you know, and what all
- 12:20that. Listen, dude, listen, dude, I've
- 12:23been confused about the manipulation rule ever since
- 12:26NASCAR Institute. You know, they did it after the
- 12:30Michael Walter fiasco at Richmond years ago and it's
- 12:33always been in play. But you go to any race,
- 12:36especially Talladega or Daytona, we held that the manufacturers
- 12:40are working together all the time, right?
- 12:43They're they'll work together to keep another competitor from
- 12:46doing because he's at a different deal.
- 12:48I mean, I remember somebody pushing a guy at Talladega years
- 12:54ago, the last lap when the when his fellow competitor had run
- 12:57out of gas and he had his teammate bumping him a few times
- 13:01the last lap or two to get him across the start finish line.
- 13:05And that was before the manipulation rule.
- 13:08I'm pretty sure that that would have fallen into on the ends of
- 13:12the manipulation rule, right? And then Daryl would be happy
- 13:15and me and Harry would not be happy.
- 13:17But anyhow, you know that and it was obvious, Charlie, it was
- 13:21obvious to me anyhow, what the one and the three were doing.
- 13:24OK, in the poor 6 car, he was hung up right in behind him. 24
- 13:29couldn't get out of his own way. But those guys that's got side
- 13:32by side. I mean, there's some people
- 13:35saying, you know, Earnhardt did it the last lap at Talladega,
- 13:37right? But we lost Dale, you know,
- 13:39whether he was or not, hell, I don't know.
- 13:41I couldn't figure that one out, to be honest with you.
- 13:42I don't think he really was at that point when the wreck
- 13:46happened with Dale, but before that, maybe a little bit of it,
- 13:50but golly, man, it was obvious what was going on.
- 13:54But here's the deal, Charlie. So So what if they were, if they
- 13:58were doing that, if the one and the three were purposely rotted
- 14:03side to side and not going to pass the 24, All right, then who
- 14:08do you penalize? You can't penalize the 24.
- 14:11He's not doing anything wrong. He he's sitting there riding,
- 14:14running his deal. Guys are behind him.
- 14:16He has no control over what those guys behind him are doing.
- 14:19So he's doing his deal. If you're going to penalize,
- 14:23you're going to have to penalize the three in the one.
- 14:25But then that's going to go into the language of the manipulation
- 14:28rule, right? And I'm not sure what, you know,
- 14:32what everybody's pissed off about here about that thing.
- 14:35You know, it's just it's very excited.
- 14:37It was excited at the end. The one thing I didn't like was
- 14:41some of the stuff afterwards and then one of the TVTV
- 14:44commentators said this is stupid and what a shame and all that.
- 14:47But you know, it's part of our sport right now, I think.
- 14:51OK, I'm going to. I'm going to look up the race
- 14:53manipulation. Rule.
- 14:54Also, as I ask you this question, because you brought up
- 14:57the Michael Waltrip situation, this is something that I didn't
- 15:00really remember. So I see people on on X slash
- 15:03Twitter saying, look, Michael Waltrip got all these penalties
- 15:07and essentially his company was ruined for for less than what
- 15:11happened last night. This was somebody else's opinion
- 15:13on that. So I'm asking you, first of all,
- 15:16explain to to myself and all the people watching.
- 15:19We have 331 people watching right now.
- 15:21Thank you. Please like and subscribe also,
- 15:24but explain the Michael Waltrip controversy.
- 15:27And do you think was that similar to last night?
- 15:30Was it worse? Was it not the same?
- 15:32What do you think? They needed a call.
- 15:34The team needed a caution. Gosh, I can't remember who the
- 15:37driver was dude. Was it Clint Boyer?
- 15:39I believe it was Clint, yeah. And Brian Vickers, maybe, yeah.
- 15:43And, well, not Mark Truex, right?
- 15:46Yes, yes. So anyhow, team orders come down
- 15:50for the driver to make to spend the car out, right?
- 15:53So I guess he he spun the car out to bring out a caution on
- 15:58purpose and they had it, they had it recorded and NASCAR heard
- 16:02the spotter telling the guy basically he had to spin the car
- 16:06out to bring the need to bring a caution out.
- 16:08So the driver spun the car out, right, brought a caution out and
- 16:12then that put their teammate in the chase or in the point steal,
- 16:16right. But when NASCAR was done with
- 16:19him, man, it was such a bad deal, you know, and, and, and,
- 16:23and MWR had already, they already had a bad mark on them
- 16:27because of the very first race out when they started that deal.
- 16:29They got caught at Daytona with, with nitrous, you know, and
- 16:32qualifying and all that. So that was a black, it was a
- 16:34cloud hanging over Michael's deal for a good while.
- 16:37And then when that happened, that particular race, man, that
- 16:40ended it. I mean, Napa, I think Napa was
- 16:42embarrassed. The sponsor was embarrassed.
- 16:44And you know the I'm saying it ended their their, their team
- 16:47because not because NASCAR shot them down, but because the
- 16:49sponsors got embarrassed. That said, we ain't going to be
- 16:52a part of this. So they lost a sponsor and the
- 16:54team that shut down was that was that simple.
- 16:57And. And from that became the
- 16:59manipulation rule. Yeah.
- 17:01OK. And I've been Googling and I
- 17:03still haven't found it, so I will continue.
- 17:05I'll tell you what somebody in the chat, if you can find the
- 17:09language for the race manipulation because I want to
- 17:12read that as well. So much to talk about.
- 17:16I think the fact that you had 27 minutes to process all this and
- 17:22I'm not a big conspiracy. Theorist.
- 17:24But you do have, look, if if Seabel gets in, then you only
- 17:31have two Toyotas and you have two Penske Fords getting in,
- 17:35right? No Chevys.
- 17:37You know, in a perfect world, NASCAR would like for all the
- 17:40manufacturers to be in. You also have a driver from
- 17:44Hendrick Motorsports right there.
- 17:45There's people always talking about, oh, Hendrick Motorsports,
- 17:48they're in bed with NASCAR and all that.
- 17:50And oh, by the way, I know there was a penalty, but Hendrick
- 17:55already got screwed a couple weeks ago with Alex Bowen.
- 17:57I'm not saying they shouldn't have been, but there was just
- 18:00there was so many little angles to think about as we're waiting
- 18:04to see when this ruling dropped. But again, they didn't look
- 18:10from, from what I interpreted from Elton Sawyer, they didn't
- 18:13look at the team play. And so I think there's going to
- 18:16be penalties off the team play, but it's not going to be any
- 18:18type of penalties that's going to knock drivers out of the
- 18:20championship. I'm sure they'll be fines and
- 18:22all that. Don't you think, Rick?
- 18:24They have to find these guys a lot like to get rid of this, to
- 18:28really get rid of the team play, the egregious manipulation,
- 18:32there has to be really severe penalties, I think.
- 18:35Yeah, it would be and I don't know.
- 18:38Yeah, but but Charlie, then it clouds everything or all right,
- 18:42I get it at Martinsville, what was going on, But then, you
- 18:45know, another race tracks, the guys are always helping during
- 18:49the race stuff. When it comes down to the end,
- 18:51it kind of goes away. But during the race the guys are
- 18:53always helping teammates and or manufacturers that OEM, OEM
- 18:57manufacturer partners, they're always doing it and it's just
- 19:00it's more it goes on every week. It's just more pronounced at
- 19:03Daytona. Talladega it's right there in
- 19:05front of you, Betty, and you can see how really plays out big
- 19:08time. So, you know, I'm not sure what
- 19:12NASCAR says or what you know, how they you know, because right
- 19:17now in our sport, everything has to be so black and white, right?
- 19:21And if it's not black and white, we get criticized or NASCAR gets
- 19:25criticized for it. So I'm not sure where where you
- 19:28draw that line as far as you know, you can't do this or we're
- 19:31going we're going to find you 50 grand and we're going to take 50
- 19:34points away from you or we're going to suspend you for a race.
- 19:37I don't know, man, where they come up with that.
- 19:41And to address the other part, to address the other part,
- 19:44Charlie, about you talking about the fans talking about the, you
- 19:49know, doing this to get a Chevrolet in, Dude, I'm telling
- 19:52you, you know, we have listened to this stuff since I've
- 19:55listened to it since I've been in NASCAR.
- 19:57Kenny Schrader made the best quote on this years ago, Bad
- 20:01when we were racing with it was this thing called, he got the
- 20:04call. He got the call, right.
- 20:06That means that Daytona, Talladega, you got a little
- 20:08NASCAR give you a little bit bigger spacer plate.
- 20:11So, so you could win. So he got the call right and,
- 20:15and Schrader or other things with rules and Schrader put the
- 20:18comment, I said, listen man, he said I've got 3 phone numbers.
- 20:23He said, I gave them to Bill France.
- 20:25I give them to bike Hilton, I give them to Gary.
- 20:27I gave everybody my phone numbers and I never got a call.
- 20:30I never got the call right. And just making a joke about it,
- 20:34making just talking about, you know, it's really silly for for
- 20:38that to even be thought that could go on.
- 20:41You know, if this manipulation stuff of NASCAR, if it was true,
- 20:44Dale Earnhardt junior would be a eight time champion right now.
- 20:47Charlie, right, our most popular driver for years and years and
- 20:51years. And he was not and you know, he
- 20:53didn't win the championship. And you know that right there
- 20:56should be proof and point to everybody that NASCAR just
- 21:00doesn't do this. They they just don't do it.
- 21:02I've never seen, especially in the modern era, the modern era.
- 21:06Let's let's talk about the modern area.
- 21:08I've never seen anything like that with proof that they that
- 21:11they've done that. It's just the way this shit
- 21:13plays out. You know, I was sitting in the
- 21:15truck in Atlanta with with NASCAR hierarchy, right?
- 21:19And I forget what we were talking about.
- 21:21It was some rule or somebody who's getting penalized or
- 21:24something. And the guys were agonized.
- 21:26There's a couple of them talking about and they were agonizing a
- 21:29lot over, well, you know, you're going to do this role that
- 21:32always down. We're going to be pulling for so
- 21:34and so right. And and it's like they were
- 21:36agonizing over knowing what the they know what the ramifications
- 21:40going to be when they make a ruling, right?
- 21:43And they're agonizing over like we know what's coming by doing
- 21:45this. They're going to accuse us of
- 21:47this or favoritism or whatever, but, you know, we got to stick
- 21:51to our guns and just, you know, the way it is.
- 21:55Yeah, Robert McElroy quotes Mark Martin from Twitter last night.
- 22:00We have a shit show here that's from Mark the kid, Martin.
- 22:04Bill Goodwin says the one so Chastain, the three Austin
- 22:10Dillon and the 23 Bubba Wallace are all guilty of race
- 22:13manipulation. I agree.
- 22:16And that's where it's also I. Agree.
- 22:18Look, they were. Caught red handed because it's
- 22:20on the radio communications now. I'm sure everybody heard this
- 22:23because again, NBC had 27 minutes.
- 22:26They played all this. You heard, you heard, you know
- 22:30Bubba got the info and then he said something about he had a
- 22:33bad tire. He had a tire going down.
- 22:35Which didn't seem true. And clearly NASCAR can check to
- 22:39see if that's true. Now I have this article from
- 22:42Auto Week just because we can't play the the audio right here.
- 22:46But here's here's Austin Dillon's radio communications.
- 22:49This is some quotes from Auto Week.
- 22:52Dylan says, quote, does he know the deal?
- 22:54His team member? I'm trying to find him to tell
- 22:57him. Does the one Chastain crew chief
- 23:00know the deal? Another team member?
- 23:02Yeah, he should. Here's Chastain's radio
- 23:04communications, nice and smart with the 24.
- 23:08Of course, Byron 24 is 1 to the good, one point to the good.
- 23:12They're even the six. Kozlowski is lined up to the
- 23:16three. So I mean, right there, it's
- 23:19obvious they're saying, look, because Kozlowski is obviously a
- 23:23Ford. They're saying you got help.
- 23:26Austin Dillon, Ross Chastain, you can set up the blockade.
- 23:29Brad Kozlowski is probably not going to play ball, but if you
- 23:32block him out, all of a sudden you set up the convoy for Willie
- 23:35B to win. So it's like, I mean, you're
- 23:38caught red handed. Everybody heard this this audio.
- 23:42Yeah, Bill Goodwin. You're right, buddy.
- 23:44You're right. The one, the three to 23 are
- 23:45guilty of race manipulation. What, what, what, you know, we
- 23:49got to find, we got to figure out what the rule is on the race
- 23:52manipulation because that'll well, we'll know by Election Day
- 23:55or Tuesday or whoever the president is by Wednesday.
- 23:58Same time we find all that stuff out about the national election.
- 24:01We should find out what's this manipulation rule means because
- 24:05I don't know. I don't know what it is.
- 24:07I mean, I, there's definitely, you know, I'm watching that.
- 24:10And again, Charlie, I'm sitting here thinking, as we talked
- 24:13about before, we're 27 minutes waiting for the decision to come
- 24:16down from NASCAR in my mind and there's no decision on the guy
- 24:19riding the wall. That should be a three second,
- 24:22you know, answer. Yeah, he can't do that.
- 24:25You know, I'm thinking, all right, they're talking about
- 24:27they're thinking about all this other stuff they said they did,
- 24:29Nelson. So you said no, we were just we
- 24:30weren't talking about that. So that stuff's going to be
- 24:33talked about again, you know, where do you draw the line on
- 24:37the manipulation? I mean, it's all obvious to us,
- 24:39right? And fans and you and me and
- 24:41everybody, what we watched yesterday, Yep, they
- 24:44manipulated. There's no doubt about it.
- 24:46So what does NASCAR do about it? Hell, I don't know.
- 24:49I don't know. As it turned out, right, if they
- 24:52would have let, if the 24, if those cars are went by the 24,
- 24:58he wouldn't be in it, right, Charlie?
- 25:00No, if if the 23 had to let the 20 by would he have been in it?
- 25:07And I'm not sure how the points works that work there, but I
- 25:09mean they're both sides are manipulating for both teams.
- 25:13Yeah, I'm still trying to find this race manipulation rule.
- 25:17So everybody bear with me here while I try to because I want to
- 25:20find the the exact language. But just because we have the
- 25:25four here, we have the four drivers in.
- 25:27What do you think about this? I know we're not supposed to
- 25:30call it the Final Four, but look, I understand it's the
- 25:34playoffs, the playoffs in any sport.
- 25:36It's not always fair to the best teams, drivers, whatever you
- 25:40want to say. In the regular season, we've
- 25:42seen, we've seen what? The Patriots went undefeated in
- 25:45the regular season in football. They lost to the Giants.
- 25:48Yeah. I just feel like, and I said
- 25:50this last night, we did a live stream with with Kenny Wallace
- 25:52and it just feels wrong to me in 2024.
- 25:56I'm not. I'm not saying that it's unfair,
- 25:59but it just kind of feels wrong that Kyle Larson is not in the
- 26:02championship for. I just feel like the whole
- 26:05season was about Kyle Larson winning stages and leading laps
- 26:09and winning six races. All the controversy about the
- 26:12double and all that. It just felt like the year of
- 26:15Kyle Larson and for him to not even be able to compete for a
- 26:18championship, it just it leaves me wanting more.
- 26:24Charlie, there is no doubt that this championship thing, the
- 26:28chase, all this stuff, there's no doubt, no doubt it brings
- 26:32excitement to our sport. You know, we can't, you know,
- 26:36even the old time purists like myself, we cannot deny that it
- 26:40brings excitement. It does big time, big time.
- 26:43And we wouldn't be talking about this today, right?
- 26:46But, but, but on the other side of it, it has its flaws.
- 26:51There's no doubt that it's got some flaws in it.
- 26:54Now, do we want to be a stick and ball sport with our playoff
- 27:00if our playoff format, is that what we want?
- 27:03If that's what we want, then that what we're doing right now
- 27:06is the way it is in, in in sticking ball sports.
- 27:10You know, just because you won all the all the all the games
- 27:12all year doesn't mean you're going to get in the final four.
- 27:15You're going to get in the World Series.
- 27:17It it doesn't work like it sticking ball.
- 27:19And ours is the same way, you know, Now I will say this,
- 27:24Charlie, here's the thing that struck me probably much as
- 27:26anything did of everything I've read.
- 27:30Brad Keselowski. All right, now, here's the deal.
- 27:34And I, I, if you, it's like if you go into the red truck every
- 27:38week, raise the hell about something that gets to where the
- 27:41red truck won't listen to you as a driver.
- 27:43You know, if you go in there once every two years or once
- 27:46every every 18 months, you got something on your mind, they're
- 27:49going to listen to you, right? It's the same way I feel like
- 27:53with Brad Keselowski in our sport, you know, Brad, he'll
- 27:56talk some stuff every now and then, but you don't really hear
- 27:58a whole lot. Denny, every week's on there,
- 28:00right? So Denny and I love Denny and I
- 28:03love what he does, you know, But it gets a little repetitive and
- 28:05just on and on and on. But when Brad came out last
- 28:08night and stated this is the camel or this is a straw baby
- 28:12that broke the camel's neck, Yep, the last straw in the
- 28:16camel's back for the playoffs, that's what he said.
- 28:18So basically, I'll read it real quick.
- 28:21Auto racing analytics say this is a disaster.
- 28:24The key partner system is really the culprit of all of it.
- 28:28How do we get it back to everyone racing for themselves?
- 28:31Brad Keselowski quote tweets that and says, Rick, like you
- 28:34said, this should be the last straw on the Camel's back for
- 28:39the playoffs. Yeah, yeah.
- 28:40That carries to me to Rick Mast and it should to DASCAR and the
- 28:45fans, that should carry a lot of weight because you know, Brad's
- 28:49one of those guys, man, when he speaks, right?
- 28:51He didn't speak a lot about this stuff, but when he does, you've
- 28:54got to pay attention to it. You know, Brad's very, he, he's
- 28:58very intellectual dude, right? He's very analytical with all
- 29:00his decisions and stuff he makes and what he does his life.
- 29:04And when he comes up the statement like that, that's what
- 29:06it struck me do that's what it struck me.
- 29:08So what do we do? I, I, you know, I don't know,
- 29:10you know, do we go with 10 races left?
- 29:12All right, the top ten guys are the points we're going to run.
- 29:15We're going to run A10 race season for the 10 guys, right?
- 29:19That that's that that would to me get rid of some of the flaws
- 29:24we've got now. Would that make it as exciting?
- 29:27You know, you're not going to have the cut off deals or maybe
- 29:30you could do not knock them out or something.
- 29:32But that that's a, you know, I don't know what the answer is to
- 29:35that. I do know this.
- 29:37I do know that it's been great for a sport, I think to make it
- 29:40excited. I also know that it's flawed.
- 29:42It has its flaws and we're we're not talking about going back to
- 29:47the old format. I don't need that.
- 29:48We can't go back to the old format.
- 29:50It's just like this the Gen. 6 car people fussing about that.
- 29:53We're not going we're not getting rid of this car.
- 29:56OK, everybody needs quit fussing about this car.
- 29:58We're not going to get rid of this car.
- 30:00We're going to keep this car we're going to keep improving it
- 30:02right and it's the same way for championship deal.
- 30:04We're going to have this we're going to have this type of
- 30:07championship some form or another.
- 30:08I don't know what the hell it ended up being right, but with
- 30:10Brad making that statement and the controversy and the the
- 30:14position that it puts NASCAR in all the time, NASCAR don't want
- 30:18to be in this stuff, right? It they just want to be it and
- 30:21they don't want to be in this stuff, but they are.
- 30:23So, you know, I don't want to be.
- 30:25It's going to be interesting this this week to see if
- 30:27anything comes down or if not and then what goes on during the
- 30:31winter talking about all this stuff.
- 30:32I don't know. Yeah, and I'm not even
- 30:35complaining as I'm discussing this.
- 30:38I think it's super interesting. I think now people might
- 30:41disagree with me. I think it's great for the sport
- 30:44in the sense that I, I think NASCAR is a sport where any
- 30:48publicity is good publicity because it's not the NFL, right?
- 30:51It's not where you can just roll out the footballs and
- 30:54everybody's going to watch. I, I do think whether it's
- 30:56positive or negative, I know people disagree with me because
- 30:59I got a bunch of comments when I said this last night, but I, I
- 31:02think people talking about the sport is always good for NASCAR
- 31:06and this is not a a perfect playoff system, although I think
- 31:09it drums up a ton of interest. I just think you can make little
- 31:12tweaks right each year. You can see what happens.
- 31:15You can try to make it more fair.
- 31:17And I, I put this comment up from Sammy Carroll because I
- 31:20thought about this when, when Brad Keselowski made his
- 31:23comment. Now, I don't think you should
- 31:26always govern your sport based on, on gambling at all.
- 31:30But like, let's, let's acknowledge how big gambling is
- 31:33in sports. Sammy Carroll says, what if you
- 31:36had money on Brad Kay for a top five?
- 31:38You got screwed. There's all these ways that you
- 31:41can gamble on NASCAR. You can bet.
- 31:43Hey, Brad Kozlowski, I'm going to bet he gets the top 10.
- 31:46I'm going to bet he gets the top five.
- 31:47Well, if you put 50 bucks or 100 bucks on Brad Kay getting the
- 31:51top five, you're feeling like you got screwed.
- 31:54Because there was a very good chance Brad Kozlowski could have
- 31:56passed Chastain, Dylan and William Byron and got a top
- 32:01five. And by the way, Tony Stewart
- 32:03talked about this on the Kenny conversation over a year ago.
- 32:07He said NASCAR, and you know this, he said NASCAR used to
- 32:10govern the garage. If you said something NASCAR
- 32:12didn't like, the next week, they're going to give you a pit
- 32:14Rd. speeding penalty, right? He said NASCAR can't do that
- 32:18anymore because of the gambling and it's just part of the
- 32:21equation. But I do think we should think
- 32:23about the gambling because people are putting money on
- 32:26these things and you don't want people to feel cheated.
- 32:28And again, if you put money on Brad Kay top five, you're
- 32:32walking away last night feeling cheated.
- 32:34It's a new world. It's a new world win, Charlie.
- 32:37NASCAR's in a new world right now.
- 32:38It's a it's a world that's different.
- 32:39You know, the, the whole world's in a new world.
- 32:42But the social media and all this, the electronics and
- 32:45communications and everything we can do, everything's instant in
- 32:48their world. Everything's instant with
- 32:49NASCAR. Everything's going on right now.
- 32:51If that's car, the betting thing, all the tangents, right?
- 32:55I hadn't even thought about. I remembered that when you said
- 32:58that, but I had completely forgot about Tony making that
- 33:02comment, right. And he's exactly right.
- 33:05And Sammy Carroll's exactly right, right.
- 33:07I'm, I'm mad today because I'm out 100 bucks or 500 bucks
- 33:11because of that. I don't, I don't know the you
- 33:14know, I don't know, I don't know.
- 33:16We're just in a different world right now.
- 33:19And here's here's the, this was a a super thing, so thank you.
- 33:23Matthew Brown. People can actually tip us.
- 33:25They love our content so much they give us tips.
- 33:27Rick Mass, how about that? Here's here's Steven Nevin on
- 33:31the other side. This is, and it is funny, I got
- 33:34200 bucks on Byron winning the championship so I'm happy lol.
- 33:37That's the thing with gambling. Half the people are pissed, but
- 33:41the other half are always happy with the outcome because
- 33:44somebody's always betting either side of it.
- 33:46And other point, to your point a while ago, Bill Frantz junior,
- 33:49Bill Frantz senior really beloved this.
- 33:52That was Bill Frantz senior's deal, man, I don't care about
- 33:55publicity as long as I get it. I don't care if it's good or
- 33:58bad, but give me publicity, right?
- 34:00And that was a different era. I mean, that's when nobody knew
- 34:03about our sport, but it was kind of the same concept.
- 34:05And Bill Frantz junior, the same way he did what he did tonight.
- 34:081979 or 8 CBS flag to flag first time coverage of Daytona 500.
- 34:13That was his big deal get it out there get it out there and and
- 34:16and and it worked and you know but in in today's age you know
- 34:23we go into the negativity of every little thing that goes
- 34:26wrong but I I what I've noticed in Charlie I've noticed is some
- 34:30of these guys some of the negativity and I.
- 34:32I've been keeping up with a little bit.
- 34:34I've noticed now for a while, I'll say the same names pop up,
- 34:39just negative for the last four or five years talking about our
- 34:43sport. Every time something happens,
- 34:45they're they're the 1st to jump on there and talk about NASCAR's
- 34:48going to hell, it's going away, they're not being no more, I
- 34:51don't watch it anymore and on and on and on.
- 34:53There is a certain percentage of people that continue to do that
- 34:58right? And they're still out here every
- 35:00day talking about the sport and still watching it because they
- 35:04say they're going to quit watching it and they're done
- 35:06with it. But, you know, you look up six
- 35:08months later and they're the same person is commenting again
- 35:11with the same gripe. But hell, they're still
- 35:13watching. They're still watching it.
- 35:15So I, you know, I don't know what kind of percentage we're
- 35:18talking about with that. I don't know.
- 35:21Yeah, we've, we've talked to us for 35 minutes and I think we
- 35:24could go on. Honestly, it's really
- 35:26interesting and I think that people are interested.
- 35:27We got almost 500 people watching right now live.
- 35:30So thank you y'all. We already have almost 2400
- 35:34people that have been watching for the last 35 minutes or so.
- 35:37But how about it? It's kind of like other than
- 35:40that, Miss Lincoln, how was the play?
- 35:42But but what do you think about, I mean the race?
- 35:45Ryan Blaney, these Penske cars are, are big race drivers.
- 35:51You got 2 Penske cars in. Ryan Blaney just picked apart
- 35:56the field. He, he passes Chase Elliott at
- 35:59the end. And, and here's a guy I think
- 36:01in, in the last two years, it's an obvious statement because he
- 36:04won the championship last year. But Ryan Blaney, I think in a
- 36:06lot of people's minds went from like a a a pretty good, pretty
- 36:10decent driver to like a big dog. I mean, he's now back-to-back
- 36:15final fours reigning champ has has a chance to win again.
- 36:19This guy is just he's elevating his status each and every week.
- 36:22He's the man, dude, you know, you asked other people asked
- 36:26earlier about who's, you know, who's your prediction, who's
- 36:29prediction? And I told you all alone, you
- 36:31know, my deals about the Bartonsville race.
- 36:33That was exciting race for me. When you get to Phoenix, it's
- 36:36just one race. Whoever hits the setup that day,
- 36:38and I said this before, if, if, if Pete Penske's out out there,
- 36:42they're going to win the championship.
- 36:43Now let me talk about my prediction.
- 36:46Excuse me, You got 2 Penske cars, right?
- 36:49You got Reddick, right? And you got a Chevrolet, All
- 36:52right? Here's the way I look at this
- 36:55thing next week. Here's here's my prediction.
- 36:58And it's not based off Martinsville, maybe just a
- 37:00little bit of Martinsville, but I look at I look at the last
- 37:03couple years at at Phoenix, right?
- 37:05For whatever reason, the 12 car and the 22, they've had a very,
- 37:09very good setup for that racetrack with this Gen. 6 car,
- 37:14right? And the year before was more
- 37:17dominant than last year. Last year he won the
- 37:20championship. But here's here's here's the
- 37:22caveat, here's the kicker, C2 kickers to this number one, the
- 37:2745 car ran good there the spring.
- 37:30I think it was like they had a pretty good setup, but they they
- 37:33did pretty well. So maybe could pick up on that,
- 37:37I don't know, and have something work for him.
- 37:41But here's the big kicker for me.
- 37:42The one car outran the 12 last year at Phoenix in the
- 37:47championship race, the one car was faster than the 12.
- 37:51The one car won the race. He had a little better, little
- 37:55better set up going for him now. Just sets up the question.
- 37:58Charlie, talk about manipulation.
- 38:02Does the one car share with Hendrick, the 24 car, what they
- 38:08did last year at at Phoenix to outrun the 12th?
- 38:14If they do and it's all that still holds if we're still on
- 38:18the same tire because see tires change setups too.
- 38:21If you go with a different tire, that racetrack, you know that
- 38:24that changes a lot with this Gen. 6 car.
- 38:26If you're keeping the same tire from track to track or whatever,
- 38:29then things don't change like they used to with the setups.
- 38:32It'll it'll be, you know, more the same.
- 38:34So to me, the 45 by just running good there the spring, OK, he's
- 38:38got a shot, but I just I don't I don't see that happening right
- 38:41now. It's going to be one of the
- 38:44Blaney car. I mean, it's going to be one of
- 38:45the pesky cars to me. And and and probably it could be
- 38:48Lagano or or or or or blade flip a coin.
- 38:51Who knows with either one of those two, But they'll go back
- 38:53with they'll go back with the setup they had last year and
- 38:57maybe tweaked a little bit. Remember this the one car
- 38:59outrunning 12. So he was beating him somewhere
- 39:02there, There's there there are no that have been written down
- 39:05by the crew chief saying this is where the one car beat us.
- 39:09Here's what we're going to try to try to make up that deficit
- 39:12or that area. All right, So maybe they'd be a
- 39:14little bit better or the same. But again, the, the, the, the
- 39:19interesting part to me is does the one car share with the 24
- 39:25what to do to their car to outrun those Penske cars?
- 39:29And I guarantee you OEM, the manufacturers are already
- 39:34talking about that. Chevrolet is already on top of
- 39:38that stuff, dude. They're all over that stuff.
- 39:40So I know they will. So now if they do do that, then
- 39:44where we at? Who's going to win?
- 39:46Hell, I don't know, but I'm going to go with one of the Team
- 39:49Penske cars. We got a 50% chance.
- 39:52See, it's, it's funny too, because when you bring that up,
- 39:56you bring up the fact that Chastain's team could, would
- 40:00probably should share the set up with the fellow Chevy with
- 40:03Hendrick, with Byron. And then I, I, I think, you
- 40:07know, we're talking obviously about race manipulation for
- 40:10whatever reason. I just don't look at that as
- 40:12being as bad or as egregious as what happened last night.
- 40:15I would I would almost assume that always happens.
- 40:19With the manufacturers that that's going to happen to me,
- 40:22that's kind of like, you know, we we had this discussion a
- 40:25while back when there was the scandal of somebody sharing
- 40:30setup info for money. And you said, well, back in the
- 40:33day, you just get the guy drunk at the bar, right And get him
- 40:36talking to me. That's a little more old school
- 40:38NASCAR. That's kind of like the way
- 40:40NASCAR has always been. But what happened on the track
- 40:43last night, because it was so obvious and because we had the
- 40:46radio communications, right? Like I think most people with
- 40:50NASCAR, they kind of like the fact that NASCAR was built on
- 40:55illegal cars running moonshine, right?
- 40:57There's always a little bit of that, like just kind of working
- 41:00the rules here and there, get your edge, get your advantage.
- 41:04But when it's so egregious, like like yesterday, last night,
- 41:08that's different. To me that feels worse than what
- 41:10you described of the one car sharing info with the 24.
- 41:14Yeah, it is. There's no doubt about that.
- 41:17And the other thought the the big part of that, Charlie, is
- 41:20it's out there for everybody to see.
- 41:23And here. And here and what I'm talking
- 41:24what I just talked about with OEMs change it or sharing or the
- 41:28manufacturer sharing information that's not out there for us to
- 41:31know about or to hear or to see. But what we can see, boy,
- 41:35everybody jumps on and raises hell about it.
- 41:36So. And gosh, I love it.
- 41:41It's it's so funny to me too. It's all about your degree,
- 41:45right? It's like in the court of law.
- 41:47I mean, you have murder, you have first degree, second
- 41:50degree, third degree, you have manslaughter, right?
- 41:53Like like see belt and I that's a bad analogy.
- 41:56I shouldn't compare these things to to those things.
- 41:58But see, Bel, he just he hung on the wall a little too long.
- 42:03And the same deal with the blocking.
- 42:05If they blocked for two laps, Rick, you know, two laps doesn't
- 42:10look as bad. It felt like freaking 15 laps,
- 42:12right. And then it's like, come on,
- 42:14come on now. So there's a matter of degree
- 42:17with all of this. And last night it was just very
- 42:20obvious. But I think, I think, you know,
- 42:24that's what that's what triggered Brad Keselowski.
- 42:28That's what made him make that statement.
- 42:30He got out of that race car, man madder in a wet in.
- 42:33He was bad because he was jammed up behind these two dudes,
- 42:37right? He couldn't go anywhere and
- 42:39there's a guy beside him. He couldn't do anything other
- 42:42other than wrecking the guy in front of him.
- 42:44It would have been the three car.
- 42:45I guess he's the one that he had to wreck and he was jammed up
- 42:48there for 15 laps, not being able to move, not being able to
- 42:51do a damn thing, can't pass anybody right, Because these two
- 42:56guys were sitting there riding side to side holding the line
- 43:00up. So the drop of checkered flag
- 43:02that he's madder and hell, right and he gets out of the car and
- 43:06he and what what about the playoff system is what comes
- 43:10out? You know, and I think that's
- 43:13what triggered it within. But I was I was glad and happy
- 43:16that he did it because I'm like, to me, that's a big statement
- 43:19that that really means something.
- 43:21So and Tyler Birbeck. Writes Bell.
- 43:26And Joe Gibbs can't challenge it because NASCAR deemed Bell as a
- 43:29safety violation. Elton Sawyer did say that last
- 43:32night. It's not an appealable offense.
- 43:36He he basically said it's similar to if a, if a guy goes
- 43:40over the wall too quickly or a loose tire, it's not something
- 43:43the teams can appeal, right? Yeah.
- 43:45Any safety violations? Donna I've in fact in my dumb
- 43:48self. I already knew that right.
- 43:50I knew that safety violations, safety violations are not
- 43:53available. They're not available.
- 43:54Keep you know, go back on it. So and then did you see the
- 43:58dejection of coach man? They showed the coach walking
- 44:01down pit Rd. from from the red truck go back to his holler.
- 44:05Golly you talk about the ejection.
- 44:07I I'm watching him and the porters trying to talk to him
- 44:09and he just walked along doing his thing.
- 44:11I'm like damn coach is dejected, right?
- 44:14You just you you hate that for the I mean, I really felt bad
- 44:18for him at the moment. But golly, you know the problem
- 44:22with racing, man, it can't be. But so many winners in in in
- 44:25that. That's that's that's that's
- 44:27that's the problem. You know, and it was this close
- 44:30to that being Rick Hendrick walking down through there with
- 44:32that right, or you can look up if you'd have found Chase
- 44:36Elliot, you'd have found him walking down through there with
- 44:39that. You know, there's so many of
- 44:40those stories like that, right, that there's there's so much
- 44:44dejection at these race tracks when these races are over a lot
- 44:47of times and the end yet and the fans don't see it because
- 44:50everybody gets out the car or whatever they get.
- 44:53They go at home, right, and their their guts just riched.
- 44:56You know, we just missed the playoffs.
- 44:58We just missed the championship run.
- 45:00We just missed a chance of winning this race.
- 45:02And you don't see those motions very often played out because
- 45:06they're just you know that the TV's interviewing the guys at
- 45:08one and everything's that's happy.
- 45:10But the fans got believe me, fans, y'all got a little
- 45:14glimpse. When you watch Coach Gibbs
- 45:16walking down the pit Rd. you've got a you got a small glimpse of
- 45:21so many of the competitors after every one of these races.
- 45:25That's their attitude and yeah, but it but you don't see it,
- 45:28right? You you don't know that goes on.
- 45:31I know it because I did it many years and I watched other people
- 45:34do it and it's not a good thing, but that that's that's part of
- 45:37the competitiveness competitiveness of our sport in
- 45:40the drive. And man, if you if you something
- 45:43like that happens and you're just happy everything's fine.
- 45:46Yeah, you don't need to believe this sport, but but anyhow,
- 45:49yeah. And I know this gets.
- 45:51Back to race manipulation, you, you can't manipulate this.
- 45:55But I do think the sport is usually better if that final
- 45:58four, if each year, if each year you have a Hendrick car, a Gibbs
- 46:03car, a Penske car and maybe one other one.
- 46:05Now, again, the storylines with 2311 racing because they're
- 46:09suing NASCAR and you can just imagine a situation where NASCAR
- 46:13has to present if it's Steve Phelps has to present the trophy
- 46:17to Tyler Reddick in 2311 as they're suing.
- 46:20And again, I'm going for storylines.
- 46:23It it does seem again, unfair is not the right word because all's
- 46:27fair and love and war and these are all sports.
- 46:30It's a these little battles. It's almost like war.
- 46:32I'm not trying to compare it to people losing their lives in
- 46:34war. But yeah, Kyle Larson's not in a
- 46:38Joe Gibbs car is not in. I will say this, though, you
- 46:41mentioned Joe Gibbs being dejected.
- 46:44It was pretty obvious. You have you have kids, Rick.
- 46:47I have a couple young kids. You know when you catch your
- 46:50kid, the old saying you catch your kid with their hand in the
- 46:53candy jar, whatever it is like when you know your kid did
- 46:56something wrong and you, you call him on it and you look at
- 46:59their face and they're guilty as hell.
- 47:02That's how Christopher Bell looked.
- 47:03He did when he was being interviewed.
- 47:06He was not cheering. He was, he was basically
- 47:09praying. He was praying.
- 47:11Please. Uphold this because I know, I
- 47:14know I kind of broke the rule, but let it slide.
- 47:17Yeah, I, I. Man, I think I would.
- 47:19I would, I would have handled that differently if I'd have
- 47:20been him, right. He was sitting there just like a
- 47:23whip up, you know, caught child. You're exactly right.
- 47:25That's a very Charlie. I'm proud of you.
- 47:27There's a very good analogy that was very good of you.
- 47:30Very astute in your part man pick up on that.
- 47:33But you're exactly right. I believe I'd have been jumping
- 47:36up down and fussing raised I've been I think I would have even
- 47:39if I'd have known I didn't screwed up I'd have been
- 47:41pleading my case. Listen yeah, there's a rule of
- 47:44getting to the wall, but I'm going to hit the ball and I got
- 47:46off of it. I do and they can't do this and
- 47:48I think that you know, Bob they can't they can't do this.
- 47:51No, I'm I'm I'm in the championship.
- 47:52No, they can't take it away from it.
- 47:54Just just really played it up. He didn't do it that way.
- 47:56He just looked like a the kid that got caught with his hand in
- 48:00the candy jar, like you say. So I don't know.
- 48:04All right, I think, I think you. Said one of the Penske cars is
- 48:08going to win. Let's just so we have it, so we
- 48:10have it here for everyone to say hey, we were right or we were
- 48:14wrong. I'll give my prediction first,
- 48:16OK? I think I.
- 48:18See, I think I agree. With you and I'm going to go, I
- 48:23actually want, first of all, I'll tell people I want Tyler
- 48:27Reddick to win because I think it would be say you're a
- 48:29headster, you're AI. Am no I am I?
- 48:32Am No, I admit it. I I 100% admit I think that's
- 48:36the best story. If Tyler Reddick wins, oh,
- 48:39without a doubt. But if?
- 48:41I had to put money on. It I'm going to bet Blaney, what
- 48:44about you? Yeah, that's the one I put on.
- 48:46And. That's it.
- 48:47You know that that you just and not because right now, just
- 48:50because of the past couple years there and a little bit right
- 48:54now, because some of the stuff that works at Martinsville, it's
- 48:57a short track car has to turn. You got to be able to put the
- 48:59throttle down hard. You know, same thing at Phoenix.
- 49:03I mean, yeah, same thing out there.
- 49:04The car has to do some of the same characteristics.
- 49:07So, you know, maybe that stuff passes over because dude, I mean
- 49:11the last part of that race, whose class of the field.
- 49:13I thought the nine car was the best car, right, But no, he
- 49:16wasn't the best car. Once the track got greased up
- 49:19and rub it up a little bit, 12 car was car to beat and you
- 49:22know, so you carry that over a little bit.
- 49:24Momentum. The old minimum is momentum.
- 49:26That's bullcrap. It's about what's in your car.
- 49:28What what your chassis is, what you doing with your your setup,
- 49:31aerodynamics, geometry, how you making your car work.
- 49:34Turn in the middle, put the fuel to put the gas down hard, get
- 49:37off the corner. That's what it's all about and
- 49:39the they, we've had the best set up there for a couple years at
- 49:42Phoenix. They're still on it at
- 49:44Martinsville. I think it carries over to
- 49:46Phoenix and Charlie. If the can we go down fantasy
- 49:50lane for just maybe 30 seconds, the 45 car with the 45 car wins
- 49:55the championship. We go to the Wards banquet,
- 50:00right? How much fodder, how much
- 50:03thought, how much how could describes our, our our reporters
- 50:08in our sport? Could they be in a bigger
- 50:10heaven, right? I mean the the people that cover
- 50:15our sport and they just couldn't be in a bigger heaven if the 45
- 50:20wins the championship and we go to the wards bank with the suit
- 50:24going on against NASCAR. I don't know.
- 50:26And then setting up there as NASCAR have to give the award to
- 50:29those guys and and and they're fine.
- 50:31They want those guys that are sport.
- 50:32I shouldn't say that. You know, they would be happy
- 50:34for them from that standpoint, because you got to separate, you
- 50:37know, in in any business, you separate things, right, Separate
- 50:41personal from business and all that.
- 50:42But golly, bum Lord, I might. I might.
- 50:47I think I would. I would become a reporter for
- 50:49one week if that went on. And I don't even know how to out
- 50:52of write, but I could talk. But you're a reporter.
- 50:55I mean, well, I. Guess I am but.
- 50:58Golly bum that would be so that would be so much fun, but I
- 51:02don't think I really don't think that's going to happen.
- 51:05Stranger things have happened, but they just the Toyota's is a
- 51:08group. I doubt, you know, like
- 51:09yesterday as a group the Toyota's had just, you know, it
- 51:12wasn't there. They did, they, whatever setup
- 51:14they were used or whatever was going on, it wasn't there.
- 51:17Like again, some of the stuff they use it that at, at at at
- 51:20Martinsville carries over to, to Phoenix.
- 51:22So, you know, a lot of reasons. I don't have the 45 top of the
- 51:25list. I have the 22.
- 51:27I got the 12/22 and the 24 in that order.
- 51:30That's the way I've got it figured right now.
- 51:32All right. Well, in terms of.
- 51:34Story time, we're going to have ton, we're going to have three
- 51:36months to tell stories in the offseason in terms of what's
- 51:40pissing off Rick Mass, if there's something.
- 51:43And also, I mean, this election tomorrow, I'm sure we're going
- 51:45to have a lot to talk about next week, not just the NASCAR
- 51:49championship. So maybe, I mean, you tell me,
- 51:51but maybe we can also end on a positive note because Dodgers
- 51:56win World Series. Your guy Freddie Freeman just
- 52:00goes off and wins. The MVPI wanted more games.
- 52:03I wanted that game to go back to LA for a Game 6.
- 52:07But man, the Yankees just kicked the hell out of the ball in that
- 52:09inning in the loud five runs. Yeah, Freddie.
- 52:13Man, you know Freddie's, Freddie's our man, right?
- 52:16Freddie was our man. In Atlanta.
- 52:18They bought Freddie. Freddie, you know, we couldn't
- 52:21afford him. Although we made, I'm going to
- 52:24bring this up, Charlie, we made we the Atlanta Braves made an
- 52:27offer, right? Freddie's agent did not tell him
- 52:31about that latest offer at the, at the at the 12th hour or
- 52:35whatever you call it. And he signed with the Dodgers.
- 52:40After that. It came out that Freddie didn't
- 52:43know about that offer. So he in turn fires his manager.
- 52:47So you know, when you look at it like that, we could have kept
- 52:49Freddie. But I'm happy.
- 52:51I'm happy that he went there and he did what he did.
- 52:54He's doing what he's doing. I'm happy for that guy.
- 52:57I wish you'd have been with the Braves.
- 52:59But you take somebody like Freddie, dude just such a good
- 53:01dude, man. He's just, I mean, he's one of
- 53:03those athletes. Like, dude, you cannot not pull
- 53:07for. You can't not pull for this guy,
- 53:08right? His values, his family deal the
- 53:11way, way. And you know what, Charlie?
- 53:13It's like racing. It's like competitors walking
- 53:15through the garage area, you know this like what what your
- 53:19competitors, the way they feel about you, That's a pretty good
- 53:23sign of what kind of person you are.
- 53:25And you'll not find anybody in MLB of my understanding that has
- 53:29one bad word to say about Freddie Freeman, right?
- 53:35Unlike Carson Hosovar, you know, in the cup garage right now.
- 53:39And they they brought that up on TV yesterday, said that guy's
- 53:42got some work to do by the way. But anyhow, we're all happy for
- 53:45Freddie, real happy for Freddie. It is funny how.
- 53:48Hosovar kind of flew under the radar for about half the season,
- 53:52and then the last several weeks we're talking about him a lot
- 53:54more, and not for good reasons. Yeah, yeah.
- 53:57And that, that's the deal. What they were talking about on
- 53:59TV, sure, I've seen this so many times with drivers, you'll have
- 54:02talented drivers, very good talented drivers and they come
- 54:05up and they're making their way through and they're causing
- 54:08problems. Ross taught Ross Chastain been a
- 54:11prime example. They're causing problems,
- 54:13They're wrecking. All right.
- 54:14At some point, at some point he has to rein it back if he's
- 54:18going to make it in the in the top league, if he's going to
- 54:20make it in Cup racing. You know, you, I'm talking about
- 54:23the steps, getting up there and getting into Cup.
- 54:25If you're going to make it, you can't be wrecking people all the
- 54:29time. You just can't do it.
- 54:30So what you have to do as a driver is you have to reign back
- 54:34from wrecking people. And I had to talk with Tom
- 54:37Morris, Ty Norris about this, about his driver at the time,
- 54:40Ross Chastity. And I've seen this.
- 54:43It's it's probably, I don't know the percentage, but I'm going to
- 54:46say 8 out of 10 times, Charlie, when that driver reigns back to
- 54:51stop wrecking, he loses his edge.
- 54:54That that edge is so fine. It's finer than the hair on a
- 54:58frog's ass man. That's a very fine edge.
- 55:01When you pull that, when you take that away from that driver,
- 55:05he loses that edge. He's not competitive anymore or
- 55:07he doesn't have the same deal. Now about two out of 10 will
- 55:12keep it. Ross Charles, Ross Chastain is
- 55:15one of those guys. He brought it back and he's
- 55:19still very, very competitive. I'm going to tell you, somebody
- 55:21else is like that and you don't realize it.
- 55:23Somebody else is it fit that bill And that's Jimmy Johnson.
- 55:28Jimmy Johnson was like. It when he first.
- 55:29Started and his biggest deal was Daytona.
- 55:31Talladega. He could not run one of those
- 55:34races without causing a frigging wreck, right?
- 55:38I mean, it was a couple of three years.
- 55:40Jimmy was doing good on other race tracks, bringing it back
- 55:43and not really getting in trouble.
- 55:45But you go to Talladega Daytona, you know, and he was just his
- 55:49deal of what what he wanted to do and make it happen.
- 55:52It wasn't working. He was wrecking every, every
- 55:55time he turned around and there was talks about it that he'd
- 55:57been talked to and they talked about it.
- 56:00Jimmy pulled it back at Talladega.
- 56:01Daytona did not lose his edge. He didn't lose that frog's hair.
- 56:06His ass size lit edge, right? And, and, and, you know, so
- 56:12anyhow, that's where that's where Larson is right now.
- 56:15That's where we're going to figure out next year, right?
- 56:18Because you can't keep, you can't keep doing what he's
- 56:20doing. You can't, you just can't keep
- 56:21running over people like Harvick.
- 56:23You know, when Ross Chastain was getting all this advice from
- 56:26everybody, he said one of the best he got was from Harvick.
- 56:29Harvick just walked up to him and says quit wrecking shit and
- 56:32walked away. You know, Chastain is like, OK,
- 56:37it's that simple. Just quit wrecking shit, right?
