- 1:19Speaker 6: you're running away now.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Welcome to Crime Watch Daily everyone, I'm Chris Hansen. First
- 1:26Speaker 1: up today, we committed quote the perfect crime. That's what
- 1:30Speaker 1: one of the suspects in our top story wrote in
- 1:32Speaker 1: a journal. But is our Michelle Sagna found out that
- 1:35Speaker 1: sentence couldn't be any further from the truth.
- 1:40Speaker 3: A young woman lured into the woods.
- 1:43Speaker 6: This was all like a game, a very sick, sad game.
- 1:47Speaker 3: A sick game ending in a barbaric murder.
- 1:51Speaker 2: She had five skull fractures, quote marks around her.
- 1:55Speaker 3: Neck, taunting messages left behind for the cops.
- 1:59Speaker 7: The police, good luck pigs, and.
- 2:03Speaker 3: The victim's mother.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Dear missus Rosine, I murdered your miserable daughter.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Who brutally tortured and killed Brandy Stevens Rosine, and my.
- 2:14Speaker 8: Anger is like the devil on the side.
- 2:18Speaker 3: The reason why bone chilling. From the very beginning, Brandy
- 2:24Speaker 3: Rosine shined. Talk to me about Brandy growing up. She
- 2:29Speaker 3: was a happy, happy, happy child.
- 2:32Speaker 2: She had that contagious, outgoing energy that people just loved.
- 2:40Speaker 5: Brandy was selfless and intelligent, loved others.
- 2:45Speaker 9: She's who I want to be when I grow up.
- 2:47Speaker 9: You know, she's a wonderful human.
- 2:50Speaker 3: But the bubbly teen also faced some heavier challenges growing
- 2:54Speaker 3: up where there's some struggles with Brandy with her identity
- 2:58Speaker 3: and who she was becoming. Yes, what did that.
- 3:02Speaker 5: Do to you?
- 3:04Speaker 3: I knew before she did. Were you accepting?
- 3:07Speaker 5: Absolutely?
- 3:08Speaker 8: I accepted her any way, shape or form.
- 3:12Speaker 2: She was my daughter, and Christy was there to help
- 3:15Speaker 2: her along the way and guide her.
- 3:17Speaker 3: She was amazing. She confided in you, yes, and really
- 3:22Speaker 3: look to you for guidance. Did Brandy have a hard
- 3:25Speaker 3: time with her identity.
- 3:27Speaker 5: In the beginning? She did, Yes, So I tried to
- 3:30Speaker 5: help her through that, tell her it's okay, just be yourself.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Brandy took that advice and flourished as a college student.
- 3:36Speaker 3: She was a double major in psychology and sociology with
- 3:40Speaker 3: a plan for the future.
- 3:42Speaker 5: She wanted to help people, and one of the.
- 3:44Speaker 3: People she wanted to help the most was her girlfriend,
- 3:47Speaker 3: Jade Olmstead. They had met online and had dated for
- 3:51Speaker 3: several months right after high school. What were some of
- 3:54Speaker 3: your first impressions of.
- 3:55Speaker 5: Jade When I first met her, I thought that she
- 3:59Speaker 5: lacked confidence, you know, I feel like she was uncomfortable
- 4:01Speaker 5: in her own skin very quiet.
- 4:04Speaker 2: But I also know Jade had some issues at home
- 4:08Speaker 2: and contributed that to why she was so quiet.
- 4:12Speaker 10: Jade really struggled with her parents. She came from a
- 4:15Speaker 10: very religious household, and then she came out as a lesbian.
- 4:19Speaker 10: Her parents were not happy about it. They wanted her
- 4:22Speaker 10: to change who she was and just flipped the switch
- 4:25Speaker 10: and not be gay anymore.
- 4:29Speaker 3: But Brandy accepted Jade for who she was and was
- 4:32Speaker 3: generous with the one she loved. Some saw Jade as
- 4:36Speaker 3: a dream. Were you aware of any red flags in
- 4:40Speaker 3: their relationship?
- 4:42Speaker 5: Brandy had told me that Jade didn't want to work.
- 4:44Speaker 3: She took care of her a lot. You think that
- 4:47Speaker 3: Jade had the same love and compassion for Brandy.
- 4:51Speaker 9: I think that Brandy did a lot of things for Jade,
- 4:54Speaker 9: and that made Jade feel good.
- 4:55Speaker 3: I had to be tough as a mom.
- 4:57Speaker 2: It was tough because I felt that Brandy could do
- 5:00Speaker 2: so much about her.
- 5:02Speaker 3: The relationship would eventually end when Jade stole money from
- 5:06Speaker 3: Brandy and left town, but the exes stayed in touch.
- 5:10Speaker 3: They still seemed to remain friends in some capacity. Did
- 5:14Speaker 3: Brandy still talk about Jade, Yes all the time.
- 5:18Speaker 5: And then There'd be times where Brandy would say, take
- 5:21Speaker 5: this phone number. It's Jade's put it in your phone.
- 5:23Speaker 5: I wanted to delete it from mine. I shouldn't talk
- 5:24Speaker 5: to her anymore. And then the next week she's like, hey,
- 5:26Speaker 5: can you give me Jade's phone umber back. They did
- 5:29Speaker 5: go back and forth a lot.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Was it toxic?
- 5:32Speaker 5: Yeah? It was unhealthy because Jade knew that Brandy would
- 5:37Speaker 5: do anything for her.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Jade was taking advantage of her, taking advantage like asking
- 5:43Speaker 3: Brandy to pick her up in Maryland, some three hundred
- 5:47Speaker 3: miles away, and bring her back to Ohio.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Within hours after Brandy dropped her off, Ashley and her
- 5:54Speaker 2: parents came and got her.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Ashley Barber, she dated Jade before Brandy.
- 6:00Speaker 10: Ashley was very tough. She liked to put out there
- 6:04Speaker 10: that no one could mess with her. You know, she
- 6:07Speaker 10: was aggressive.
- 6:09Speaker 3: Eighteen year old Jade and twenty year old Ashley were
- 6:11Speaker 3: now officially back together and even living together at Ashley's
- 6:16Speaker 3: parents' house in Pennsylvania.
- 6:18Speaker 10: Ashley wanted Jade all to herself.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Brandy and Jade, was there anything more to that friendship?
- 6:24Speaker 10: I don't think that Brandy was trying to step into
- 6:27Speaker 10: Jade and Ashley's relationship. I think that she just cared
- 6:31Speaker 10: about Jade and wanted good things for her, so she
- 6:34Speaker 10: just always stuck around.
- 6:37Speaker 3: But being a friend of Jade's would prove to have
- 6:39Speaker 3: deadly consequences. It was a warm spring morning at Brandy's
- 6:44Speaker 3: grandmother's house ten am. She says, Grandma, I'm going to
- 6:47Speaker 3: visit my friend Rhannon.
- 6:48Speaker 6: Yes, who also lives in Ohio, who's a very close
- 6:51Speaker 6: friend of Brandy's.
- 6:52Speaker 3: But instead of driving to Rhiannon's, Brandy drives almost eighty
- 6:57Speaker 3: miles to see someone else, and on her way, Brandy
- 7:02Speaker 3: text Rhianne in the address and something else foreboding.
- 7:06Speaker 7: She told a friend that she had an uneasy feeling
- 7:09Speaker 7: about coming here coming up.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Did Brandy ever arrive?
- 7:13Speaker 2: I told her, I don't believe that thing you're saying.
- 7:16Speaker 3: And a vile valve posted online she.
- 7:19Speaker 9: Had said, I hope I get to kill her before
- 7:21Speaker 9: her diabetes does.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Now back to our story on an Ohio college student
- 7:27Speaker 1: called in the middle of a love triangle with two
- 7:30Speaker 1: other young women. Once again, here's Michelle saging twenty year.
- 7:34Speaker 3: Old Brandy Stevens Rosine is on the road. How did
- 7:37Speaker 3: you a location almost eighty miles away. On her way,
- 7:41Speaker 3: she text a haunting message to her friend Rhianna.
- 7:44Speaker 2: The text was, I have a funny feeling. This is
- 7:47Speaker 2: the address of where i'llbe.
- 7:50Speaker 3: Was she overreacting or was something else horrible about to happen.
- 7:55Speaker 3: As the day turns tonight, her already nervous grandmother becomes
- 7:59Speaker 3: alarmed when she spots something to twenty year old left behind.
- 8:04Speaker 6: And she didn't take her backpack with her that day,
- 8:06Speaker 6: and she suffered from diabetes and her insulin would have
- 8:09Speaker 6: been in that bag.
- 8:10Speaker 3: What does her grandmother do?
- 8:11Speaker 7: Her grandmother began calling her cell phone and the calls
- 8:15Speaker 7: went straight to voicemail.
- 8:17Speaker 3: No answer that evening, and no sign of Brandy the
- 8:20Speaker 3: next morning. So Brandy's grandmother brings the troubling news to
- 8:23Speaker 3: Brandy's mother, Carrie Rosine. What did you say? I told
- 8:27Speaker 3: her I hadn't heard from her either, when you learned
- 8:30Speaker 3: she left her diabetes medication behind? Yes, I fright, we
- 8:34Speaker 3: both did. They report Brandy missing to the local Ohio authorities,
- 8:39Speaker 3: and as cops begin their investigation, Carrie launches her own,
- 8:44Speaker 3: starting with digging into Brandy's cell phone records and calling
- 8:48Speaker 3: everyone who had talked to her the day before. You
- 8:51Speaker 3: knew something was wrong.
- 8:53Speaker 5: Yeah, Her very closest friend, Rihanna, said that Brandy text
- 8:57Speaker 5: her that morning and said she had a bad feeling
- 8:59Speaker 5: and here's the address.
- 9:01Speaker 3: So a determined Christy takes down that address and launches
- 9:05Speaker 3: her own investigation. She goes looking for Brandy alone in
- 9:09Speaker 3: the dark, but she.
- 9:11Speaker 5: Gets lost, winded up at a church vacant, over roaming
- 9:15Speaker 5: fall of grass, and it just solidified of the hopelessness
- 9:19Speaker 5: that I felt like, there's no hope.
- 9:23Speaker 3: No hope. Then a potential break. Not long after Brandy
- 9:28Speaker 3: went missing, her family was led right here to Linden
- 9:31Speaker 3: Street in Meadville, Pennsylvania. Brandy's phone pinged at a house
- 9:36Speaker 3: somewhere on this street, so her mother went door to
- 9:38Speaker 3: door passing out fires. After an exhaustive search my friends
- 9:44Speaker 3: and family, they come up empty. When she didn't show
- 9:47Speaker 3: up on Linden Street. What did you think?
- 9:50Speaker 9: I started to get more afraid. I think that right
- 9:54Speaker 9: around that time is when I reached out to her
- 9:56Speaker 9: mom with the messages from Ashley as.
- 9:59Speaker 3: In Ashley Barber, the girlfriend of Jade Olmsted. The two
- 10:03Speaker 3: are now living together. But remember Brandy and Jade were
- 10:07Speaker 3: once dating and still stay in touch. Do you think
- 10:11Speaker 3: Ashley was jealous of Brandy? Absolutely?
- 10:14Speaker 10: I think Ashley was very insecure. She couldn't stand the
- 10:17Speaker 10: thought of Jade giving attention to someone else.
- 10:21Speaker 3: At the time of Brandy's disappearance, Brandy and Jade were
- 10:24Speaker 3: just friends. Ashley's hate Field social media message, sent as
- 10:28Speaker 3: Sarah two months before was either an idle threat or
- 10:32Speaker 3: disgusting promise.
- 10:34Speaker 9: She said, and I hope I get to kill her
- 10:36Speaker 9: before her diabetes does.
- 10:38Speaker 3: What did you do with that message? Did you take
- 10:40Speaker 3: that threat seriously at the time?
- 10:42Speaker 9: Now, because people say a lot of things when they're upset, But.
- 10:46Speaker 3: With Brandy now missing, Sarah checks Ashley's social media and
- 10:49Speaker 3: sees photos she's posted of marks on her arms.
- 10:53Speaker 9: That just seemed a little bit too coincidental that Brandy
- 10:56Speaker 9: was missing, and now Ashley has boson all over here.
- 11:01Speaker 3: Then, five desperatedies into Brandy's disappearance.
- 11:05Speaker 5: Carrie said, you know what, this is stupid. We know
- 11:08Speaker 5: where she said she's going last. Let's go down. I'm
- 11:10Speaker 5: sure we can find it in the daily. So we went.
- 11:14Speaker 3: This time, the GPS leads them not to a church,
- 11:18Speaker 3: but to Ashley Barber's parents' house. You arrived to the
- 11:22Speaker 3: house and you're met outside, yes, by Ashley and Jade
- 11:28Speaker 3: and her father and father, Ashley's father.
- 11:30Speaker 2: What do they say to you? Jade came up to me.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Ashley stayed back and you know where I'm here? No,
- 11:37Speaker 2: I don't. Well, you know Brandy's been missing, Yeah, but
- 11:41Speaker 2: she's not here.
- 11:42Speaker 3: I said, well, she was coming here.
- 11:44Speaker 2: We have a text saying that she had a bad feeling,
- 11:46Speaker 2: but this is the address that she'll be at. So
- 11:49Speaker 2: this was the last known place.
- 11:53Speaker 3: Of her location. So I said she was here. No,
- 11:55Speaker 3: she never made it here. She said, she never made
- 11:58Speaker 3: it here, but she never made it there. Did you
- 12:01Speaker 3: see Ashley's injuries?
- 12:02Speaker 2: Yes, yes, she had a bandage on her arm elbow area,
- 12:06Speaker 2: upper arm area. She said they were at the hospital
- 12:08Speaker 2: when supposedly Brandy was coming, but she decided to turn
- 12:13Speaker 2: back and not come back because they weren't going to
- 12:14Speaker 2: be there.
- 12:15Speaker 3: What did you say to that?
- 12:16Speaker 2: I was very aggressive with Jade. I finally told her,
- 12:19Speaker 2: I don't believe everything you're saying. And that's when Ashley
- 12:23Speaker 2: came up from behind Jade and said, whoa, whoa whoa.
- 12:26Speaker 2: I said, don't whoa whoa? Whooe me, I said, my
- 12:29Speaker 2: daughter's been missing for five days. This is the last
- 12:33Speaker 2: known place that.
- 12:34Speaker 3: She was at. Beyond enraged, frustrated and scared. Carrie and
- 12:40Speaker 3: Christy leave and give the information to the state police.
- 12:44Speaker 7: They come and interview Ashley, Barbara and Jade Olms said,
- 12:47Speaker 7: and they tell the same story. She was supposed to come,
- 12:50Speaker 7: she called us and never showed up.
- 12:53Speaker 3: But the next day, an unbelievable discovery in the Barber's
- 12:56Speaker 3: family garage would change the course of the case.
- 13:00Speaker 7: Ashley Barber's mother, who reported to the state police that
- 13:04Speaker 7: there was a car there and they didn't know who
- 13:06Speaker 7: it was.
- 13:07Speaker 3: The car's exterior match Brandy's kier Rio. The interior did not.
- 13:13Speaker 5: I said, what was in it?
- 13:15Speaker 2: Well, nothing, I said, Then something's happened because my daughter's
- 13:20Speaker 2: car was a pigsty. I know my daughter's car, and
- 13:24Speaker 2: if there's nothing in that car, something's happened.
- 13:26Speaker 5: To my daughter.
- 13:27Speaker 3: So Brandy's car is found, Yes, and normally it's a
- 13:31Speaker 3: rather messy vehicle, right, but everything is cleaned out of it.
- 13:35Speaker 3: It's almost as if it's brand new.
- 13:37Speaker 7: Yes, it's been staged.
- 13:38Speaker 3: It's been cleaned, staged and cleaned and so this was
- 13:43Speaker 3: a huge red flag right off.
- 13:44Speaker 7: He wise, you had a missing person who supposedly was
- 13:48Speaker 7: coming to this home and Barbara and Almstad tell the
- 13:50Speaker 7: police she was never there, but yet the vehicle was
- 13:53Speaker 7: found there.
- 13:55Speaker 3: The investigation goes from zero to sixty only to come
- 13:58Speaker 3: to a screeching.
- 13:59Speaker 6: Hunt when we went back to the residence the next
- 14:02Speaker 6: day to talk to them Miss Barbara, miss Olmstead, and
- 14:05Speaker 6: they in fact went missing in the middle of the night,
- 14:07Speaker 6: had packed their belongings and left the residence.
- 14:10Speaker 3: Cops are now looking not for one girl, but three
- 14:14Speaker 3: coming up, the focus shifts to someone unexpected.
- 14:19Speaker 7: She said her father attacks Brandy Steve Lindsey.
- 14:24Speaker 1: It all started with a missing twenty year old college student,
- 14:28Speaker 1: but what would develop of the next couple of days
- 14:30Speaker 1: would be one of the most disturbing cases in Pennsylvania history.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Here's Michelle sigonat.
- 14:36Speaker 3: Chris as police search for Brandy. Her cell phone would
- 14:39Speaker 3: point them in the direction of one of her axes,
- 14:42Speaker 3: and I don't think anyone was ready for what they
- 14:44Speaker 3: saw next. Brandy Stevens Rosine text a friend saying she
- 14:50Speaker 3: had a bad feeling about going to see her ex
- 14:52Speaker 3: girlfriend Jade Olmstead and Jade's current girlfriend, Ashley Barber. According
- 14:58Speaker 3: to the girls, she for a rhyme you know in
- 15:03Speaker 3: your heart something is wrong. Yep, yep. Five days into
- 15:09Speaker 3: our disappearance, Brandy's car was found at Ashley and Jade's.
- 15:14Speaker 6: The car was sanitized, it was cleaned inside and out,
- 15:18Speaker 6: and it was hidden.
- 15:20Speaker 3: Cops are desperate to talk to the girls. Problem is
- 15:24Speaker 3: now they're missing too. They're on the run, but not
- 15:29Speaker 3: for long.
- 15:30Speaker 6: An off duty state trooper actually sees these two young
- 15:33Speaker 6: females getting ready to get into a car and immediately
- 15:36Speaker 6: knew these are the two women that are criminal investigators
- 15:39Speaker 6: are looking for.
- 15:40Speaker 3: And so at this point do you think they were
- 15:42Speaker 3: trying to leave town?
- 15:43Speaker 7: Yes, they were escaping. They were trying to leave. The
- 15:45Speaker 7: state police had been to their house two or three times.
- 15:48Speaker 7: Brandy Stevens's mother had been at the home. I think
- 15:51Speaker 7: they knew they were caught.
- 15:53Speaker 3: Jade Olmstead and Ashley Barbara are picked up and taken
- 15:56Speaker 3: to the station. Pennsylvania State Trooper Eric Mallory would conduct
- 16:00Speaker 3: their interviews. So you separate, then correct the questioning starts.
- 16:05Speaker 6: That's correct.
- 16:05Speaker 3: Where are you figuring out from the jump?
- 16:07Speaker 6: I started out interviewing Miss Barbera, and she wasn't being
- 16:10Speaker 6: truthful with me.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Ashley changes her story from Brandy never making it to
- 16:15Speaker 3: the house to telling Mallory that Brandy did come to
- 16:18Speaker 3: the house but left to see another woman.
- 16:21Speaker 6: That second rendition of the story basically was that Miss
- 16:26Speaker 6: Stevens had showed up at the house and she had
- 16:29Speaker 6: planned on meeting another young woman by the name of Jamie.
- 16:35Speaker 6: She's being very clandestine about this and she didn't want
- 16:38Speaker 6: her parents to know, her grandparents to know. Miss Barbara
- 16:41Speaker 6: had indicated to me that after Miss Stevens arrived at
- 16:44Speaker 6: the house, they played video games, and she said Miss
- 16:47Speaker 6: Stevens actually took a phone call. She went outside onto
- 16:50Speaker 6: the front porch and had some sort of a conversation
- 16:54Speaker 6: with somebody, and when she came in, she had looked
- 16:56Speaker 6: like she had just won the lottery. And basically shortly
- 17:00Speaker 6: after that, she gathered her personal belongings out of her
- 17:04Speaker 6: vehicle and she started walking down Drake Hill Road and
- 17:08Speaker 6: she was never seen again.
- 17:09Speaker 3: So she leaves her car behind, takes her personal belongings
- 17:12Speaker 3: and walks away. Correct, And what was Jade telling you?
- 17:16Speaker 6: Basically, they both stuck to the story that mis Stevens
- 17:20Speaker 6: had showed up and was running off to meet another
- 17:23Speaker 6: young lady who's never seen from again.
- 17:27Speaker 3: Could Brandy actually be with another woman? Anything is possible,
- 17:31Speaker 3: but that seems unlikely, especially when Ashley changes her story
- 17:36Speaker 3: once again, this time pointing the finger at Ashley's own father.
- 17:41Speaker 7: Ashley Barber comes up with this fantastical story and blames
- 17:46Speaker 7: her father, blames her father, blames her father. She explains
- 17:49Speaker 7: that Brandy, Ashley, and Jade are down in the woods
- 17:53Speaker 7: by the fort and her father comes down and he's
- 17:56Speaker 7: mad that the vehicle's there, and he's mad that Rings
- 18:00Speaker 7: Stevens is there, and he says some disparaging things about
- 18:03Speaker 7: lesbian's and homosexuality, and Barber says that her father and
- 18:08Speaker 7: Brandy end up getting in a fight. It's Ashley's father
- 18:11Speaker 7: who uses the shovel and attacks Brandy Stevens.
- 18:16Speaker 3: Did you think maybe he could have done this?
- 18:21Speaker 5: No?
- 18:23Speaker 3: But while Trooper Mallory is interviewing the girls, investigators are
- 18:27Speaker 3: in the woods four hundred yards behind Ashley Barber's house,
- 18:32Speaker 3: stumbling upon an absolute horror coming up.
- 18:37Speaker 7: There's some fresh and dirt that it looks like there
- 18:40Speaker 7: had been a whole done. They rope off the area,
- 18:42Speaker 7: consider it a crime scene, and eventually begin to dig.
- 18:45Speaker 3: What will cops find? What will the girls say?
- 18:48Speaker 5: Next?
- 18:51Speaker 1: Now to the conclusion of our story on missing twenty
- 18:54Speaker 1: year old college student Brandy Stephens Rosine, let's head back
- 18:57Speaker 1: to our Michelle Sigona in Pennsylvania, and we want to
- 19:00Speaker 1: warn you some of the details you're about to hear
- 19:03Speaker 1: are quite gravity.
- 19:04Speaker 3: Chris. I've covered some pretty horrific murder cases here on
- 19:07Speaker 3: Crime Watch Daily, but I have to say this case
- 19:10Speaker 3: right here in Pennsylvania maybe one of the worst. Ashley
- 19:15Speaker 3: Barber and Jade Olmstead are being interviewed by Pennsylvania State
- 19:18Speaker 3: Police in the disappearance of Brandy Stevens Rosine. As Trooper
- 19:23Speaker 3: Eric Mallory is hearing, they're multiple versions of events. Cops
- 19:27Speaker 3: are in the woods behind Ashley Barber's home uncovering a nightmare.
- 19:33Speaker 3: This is no longer a missing person case, it's a murder.
- 19:38Speaker 7: They see an area where it looks like somebody was
- 19:40Speaker 7: making a cabin or a campsite, and there's some fresh
- 19:45Speaker 7: and dirt that it looks like there had been a
- 19:47Speaker 7: whole dug. They rope off the area and consider it
- 19:51Speaker 7: a crime scene and eventually begin to dig in that area.
- 19:55Speaker 3: And when they dig a little further beneath the ground.
- 19:58Speaker 7: They realize that human being has been buried there. She's
- 20:01Speaker 7: identified as being Brandy Stevens.
- 20:03Speaker 3: Twenty year old Brandy Stevens Rosie buried in a shallow grave.
- 20:10Speaker 3: It was the news her mother, Carrie prayed would never come.
- 20:15Speaker 2: Two in the morning, my mom came to my house
- 20:17Speaker 2: and told me.
- 20:20Speaker 3: They found her, Puddy.
- 20:26Speaker 2: It was awful.
- 20:29Speaker 8: It was the worst night ever.
- 20:32Speaker 3: When word gets back to the station that Brandy's body
- 20:35Speaker 3: has been found, Ashley Barber suddenly changes her tone.
- 20:40Speaker 8: Ms.
- 20:40Speaker 6: Barber indicated to me that she had more information to
- 20:43Speaker 6: tell me, but she wasn't going to say another word
- 20:46Speaker 6: until she was able to look into Jade's eyes and
- 20:49Speaker 6: wanted to be able.
- 20:49Speaker 1: To talk to her.
- 20:51Speaker 3: And you let them do that absolutely. After that, both
- 20:55Speaker 3: girls agree to tell the true story. They are separated
- 21:00Speaker 3: and recorded a warning the details you were about to
- 21:03Speaker 3: hear are quite disturbing.
- 21:06Speaker 6: Ashley, let's clean this late and just tell me what happened.
- 21:10Speaker 8: It was planned. How did you get Brandy to the house.
- 21:15Speaker 8: We just toltally. We we're gonna hang out.
- 21:17Speaker 7: Jade Olmstead sent a message to Brandy inviting her to
- 21:20Speaker 7: meet Ashley and for them to check out the fort
- 21:23Speaker 7: where the campsite that they were building in the woods.
- 21:27Speaker 3: The girls tell Mallory that when Brandy arrived, Jade led
- 21:30Speaker 3: her down the secluded path to the fort and said
- 21:33Speaker 3: the word babe. Babe was their code word.
- 21:38Speaker 8: And I heard her say hey, babe, and I ran
- 21:40Speaker 8: as fast as they.
- 21:41Speaker 11: Could, and I came down and Jade would had her
- 21:45Speaker 11: arm around her neck. So I came up and I
- 21:47Speaker 11: punched her face. I don't know how many times, but
- 21:50Speaker 11: I know it. Brober knows. Brandy was screaming.
- 21:52Speaker 8: Do you know what she was saying? As Jade stop it.
- 21:55Speaker 8: I won't tell anybody. Just let it go now. I
- 21:58Speaker 8: told people where I.
- 21:58Speaker 3: Was just walking into a trap.
- 22:01Speaker 6: Absolutely.
- 22:03Speaker 3: As Jade and Ashley continue to beat Brandy, she fights back, punching, kicking,
- 22:09Speaker 3: and begging for help.
- 22:12Speaker 6: She thought she was calling out to somebody, like help
- 22:14Speaker 6: me or something.
- 22:15Speaker 11: Yeah, but it's like she knew somebody else was there.
- 22:18Speaker 11: I mean, my neighbor was kind of grass in the back.
- 22:20Speaker 11: I knew if she ran, I was not ab able
- 22:23Speaker 11: to catch her. Plus you know, her car being there
- 22:26Speaker 11: and stuff. So I started beating her head off the
- 22:29Speaker 11: true stop. That's when the blood started coming.
- 22:33Speaker 3: That's when the blood started coming. And that's when Jade
- 22:39Speaker 3: grabs a shovel.
- 22:40Speaker 8: How many times would you say you hit her with
- 22:42Speaker 8: the shelved? Like four times?
- 22:46Speaker 5: Okay?
- 22:47Speaker 11: And that's why actually has bruises on her arms because
- 22:50Speaker 11: I accidentally hit her.
- 22:52Speaker 8: Well, she was holding Brandy down.
- 22:54Speaker 6: Was anything being said either by you, Ashley or Brandy?
- 22:59Speaker 8: Brandy was graving for her life.
- 23:02Speaker 3: Ashley then puts a rope around Brandy's neck and Tron's
- 23:05Speaker 3: choking her while Jade savagely hits Brandy in the head
- 23:09Speaker 3: with the shovel.
- 23:10Speaker 6: And what was Brandy's reaction after that?
- 23:13Speaker 11: She went limp, but she was gasping for air, okay,
- 23:16Speaker 11: and she was saying Jade's stop, Jade stop.
- 23:19Speaker 8: The girl was laying in a puddle of her own blood.
- 23:22Speaker 8: So you're getting angry.
- 23:23Speaker 6: What do you think major angry about that?
- 23:26Speaker 8: That she wasn't fighting anymore?
- 23:28Speaker 3: Then, filled with rage.
- 23:30Speaker 11: I picked up the back of the rope and I
- 23:32Speaker 11: let her head hit the stop probably.
- 23:35Speaker 3: Ten times, as if it couldn't get any more horrific.
- 23:40Speaker 3: Ashley and Jade then drag a severely beaten Brandy and
- 23:44Speaker 3: push her into the grave, a grave they've already dug.
- 23:49Speaker 11: And after that, I picked up a big boulder because
- 23:52Speaker 11: I could tell her she was still breathing, and I walked.
- 23:54Speaker 8: Over kid on the top of the grave and I
- 23:58Speaker 8: snatched her face out.
- 24:01Speaker 3: The viciousness continues.
- 24:03Speaker 8: We in a full bottle of water and I've stood
- 24:07Speaker 8: about her and pour it in her mouth, in her nose.
- 24:11Speaker 3: It's a sadistic attempt to drown her. It's only then
- 24:15Speaker 3: that Ashley and Jade begin to cover Brandy with dirt.
- 24:19Speaker 6: Do you think she was still alive when you buried her?
- 24:23Speaker 3: But she was in the most cold blooded of acts, and,
- 24:27Speaker 3: as an autopsy report would later show, Ashley and Jade
- 24:31Speaker 3: very Brandy alive.
- 24:34Speaker 7: It's terrible, terrible way to die.
- 24:40Speaker 3: Trooper Mallory needs a break, and while sitting alone, one
- 24:43Speaker 3: of the ruthless killers can be heard whispering to the
- 24:46Speaker 3: other it's heartbreaking.
- 24:50Speaker 12: I mean to think of what she went through in
- 24:52Speaker 12: those woods, and to think of her final moments.
- 24:55Speaker 6: It's very tragic, very brutal, very cold calculated.
- 25:00Speaker 3: Calculated, and confirmed our intentions were to bring it over
- 25:05Speaker 3: so we could kill her.
- 25:07Speaker 8: Okay, there is.
- 25:10Speaker 3: Cops will go on to find even more evidence of
- 25:13Speaker 3: their depravity. Ashley wrote a note or a letter. It says, quote,
- 25:17Speaker 3: I Blank murdered your twenty year old mistake. She deserved it.
- 25:21Speaker 3: Jade wrote, do I feel guilty? Answer? Not an ounce?
- 25:26Speaker 3: I am proud.
- 25:27Speaker 7: They wrote terrible things.
- 25:29Speaker 6: What they left on the trees in the diary, that's
- 25:32Speaker 6: not remorse that it's almost like a badge of honor.
- 25:36Speaker 3: Jade Olmstead and Ashley Barbera were charged with first degree murder.
- 25:41Speaker 3: Both pleaded guilty and were sentenced to life no chance
- 25:44Speaker 3: of parole. So what in the world could have been
- 25:47Speaker 3: their motive.
- 25:48Speaker 7: They never really came out and explained to the state
- 25:51Speaker 7: police what their motive was. I always believed that it
- 25:54Speaker 7: was their crazy attempt to show one another how much
- 25:59Speaker 7: they cared for each other. The Jade Olmstead had explained
- 26:02Speaker 7: to the state police that Ashley Barbara was very jealous,
- 26:05Speaker 7: and I believe when Ashley found out that Jade was
- 26:08Speaker 7: still communicating with Brandy, they decided that she had to go.
- 26:12Speaker 7: Brandy Stevens wasn't bothering these two people, and they basically
- 26:15Speaker 7: lured her here to murder her.
- 26:18Speaker 3: Sarah Van Allen is still haunted by Ashley's social media
- 26:21Speaker 3: threat she didn't share until later.
- 26:24Speaker 9: It definitely taught me a lot more to pay attention
- 26:26Speaker 9: to the things that people say, because I feel like
- 26:30Speaker 9: had I said something, this wouldn't have happened.
- 26:34Speaker 12: Sorry, you couldn't have known that something like this was
- 26:38Speaker 12: going to happen, and you can't blame yourself.
- 26:42Speaker 5: I'm sorry.
- 26:43Speaker 3: And for Brandy's mom, through her overwhelming pain and heartbreak,
- 26:48Speaker 3: she says, there's a lesson in it all.
- 26:51Speaker 5: Listen to your gut.
- 26:53Speaker 2: You have a bad feeling, don't just text somebody you
- 26:55Speaker 2: have a bad feeling. This is where all be if
- 26:57Speaker 2: something happens to me, if you have a bad feeling,
- 26:59Speaker 2: don't go.
- 27:01Speaker 3: Don't go. For Brandy's friends, they're left to try to
- 27:05Speaker 3: make sense of their loss and her senseless, barbaric death.
- 27:09Speaker 5: The fact that she was taken in such an ugly
- 27:13Speaker 5: way for such a beautiful person, a beautiful soul. It's
- 27:17Speaker 5: it's shocking. But I don't want her to be remembered
- 27:21Speaker 5: by how she was taken. I want her to be
- 27:24Speaker 5: remembered as who she was before.
- 27:28Speaker 3: You're a good friend.
- 27:30Speaker 5: Thanks, Brandy would have done it for me.
- 27:34Speaker 1: During police interviews and in the letter Ashley Barbara wrote
- 27:37Speaker 1: to her parents, she hinted this may have not been
- 27:40Speaker 1: her only murder, saying quote, this won't be my last,
- 27:43Speaker 1: it was not my first. However, detectives believe Ashley was
- 27:47Speaker 1: lying an attempt to make herself look tougher and deflect
- 27:50Speaker 1: some of the blame from the love of her life,
- 27:52Speaker 1: Jane Up next in eight year old is last seen
- 27:57Speaker 1: on this surveillance video walking into a hotel room with
- 28:00Speaker 1: an older man.
- 28:01Speaker 13: I fell sick to my stomach. Nothing good can come
- 28:05Speaker 13: of a scenario like that.
- 28:07Speaker 1: The frantic search for Militia ride. Is she still alive?
- 28:11Speaker 3: Relicia is scene going into the door. Is there a
- 28:14Speaker 3: video of her coming out?
- 28:17Speaker 1: That's next? Welcome back to Crime Launch Daily. You're watching
- 28:23Speaker 1: security video of a man and a little girl walking
- 28:25Speaker 1: down a hotel hallway. It is now one of the
- 28:28Speaker 1: key pieces of evidence in a high profile missing person's
- 28:31Speaker 1: case out of Washington, d C.
- 28:36Speaker 5: R. E.
- 28:37Speaker 3: L I. S.
- 28:37Speaker 5: EJ.
- 28:40Speaker 1: She's an adorable child who goes home every night to hell.
- 28:46Speaker 14: It's a building that's next to a morgue and a
- 28:48Speaker 14: methadone clinic. There's not much else around there. It's a
- 28:52Speaker 14: terrible place to live, absolutely.
- 28:54Speaker 1: Until she becomes literally swallowed up by the darkness.
- 29:00Speaker 13: I felt sick to my stomach because you know, nothing
- 29:03Speaker 13: good can come of a scenario like that.
- 29:06Speaker 1: It's a question that echoes across the airways.
- 29:09Speaker 3: He's seen going into a hotel room with the child.
- 29:12Speaker 1: I hope she's alive. Where is Relicia rot and who
- 29:16Speaker 1: took her?
- 29:16Speaker 3: Relicia is seen going into the door. Is there a
- 29:19Speaker 3: video of her coming out?
- 29:24Speaker 1: Relicia is a charming eight year old with a life
- 29:27Speaker 1: as hard as it comes. She lives in a homeless
- 29:31Speaker 1: shelter in Washington, d C. With her mother and three
- 29:34Speaker 1: younger brothers. But her mother, Shamika Young, says, the little
- 29:39Speaker 1: girl can brighten up a room even under the worst circumstances.
- 29:47Speaker 3: And am lovable, kind hearted, brandy.
- 29:53Speaker 5: She's real sweet.
- 29:56Speaker 3: He's filed to say, all kids, all kids to play.
- 30:01Speaker 8: That's wonderful.
- 30:02Speaker 1: But now this bright little Stars school video is at
- 30:06Speaker 1: the center of one of Washington, DC's biggest mysteries. She's
- 30:10Speaker 1: missing last scene in this surveillance video, disappearing into a
- 30:14Speaker 1: hotel room with a man who had cared for her before.
- 30:18Speaker 14: We know that the family described him as her godfather, but.
- 30:22Speaker 1: Now both Relisia and her so called godfather have mysteriously vanished.
- 30:27Speaker 14: We know that there were some concerns.
- 30:29Speaker 1: Teresa Vargas of The Washington Post has covered every angle
- 30:33Speaker 1: of the story and says there was always a secret
- 30:36Speaker 1: world of fear hidden beneath relicious life at the shelter.
- 30:40Speaker 14: She would tell people at her school, can I stay late?
- 30:43Speaker 14: She would make up illnesses to stay at relatives' homes.
- 30:46Speaker 14: She didn't want to be there. She called it the
- 30:49Speaker 14: trap house.
- 30:50Speaker 1: And according to Vargas, there was trouble in the family
- 30:54Speaker 1: even before they moved into the shelter.
- 30:56Speaker 14: Child Protective Services had looked into I think as early
- 30:59Speaker 14: as she was two years, so she was still a
- 31:01Speaker 14: toddler when alarms were first raised. Sometimes she would go
- 31:04Speaker 14: to school dirty and with her hair unwashed, and they
- 31:07Speaker 14: would keep spare clothes there for her and clean her
- 31:10Speaker 14: up before class.
- 31:11Speaker 1: The after School Children's Playtime Project is Relicia's Life raft
- 31:16Speaker 1: a place where she is safe and happy. Program director
- 31:20Speaker 1: Jamila Larson remembers her well.
- 31:23Speaker 3: She was just a joy.
- 31:24Speaker 13: Our volunteers absolutely loved having.
- 31:27Speaker 5: Her in our program.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Aut Question oh eight. Then Relicia suddenly stops showing up
- 31:36Speaker 1: for school.
- 31:37Speaker 4: There is a two to three week period when we
- 31:41Speaker 4: are not exactly sure where Relitia was, who she was with.
- 31:45Speaker 1: Investigators find that she has been excused for an illness,
- 31:48Speaker 1: at least that's what it seems.
- 31:51Speaker 14: We know that there were calls made to the school
- 31:53Speaker 14: as far as excusing those absences, saying that she was
- 31:56Speaker 14: in the care of a doctor Tatum.
- 31:58Speaker 1: But the school would like to know more more about
- 32:00Speaker 1: relicious condition. How serious is it? A meeting is arranged
- 32:05Speaker 1: to discuss the case with doctor Tatum at the shelter. Mysteriously,
- 32:09Speaker 1: the doctor never shows up, and that leads to an
- 32:13Speaker 1: alarming discovery. Next, the chilling true identity of the man
- 32:20Speaker 1: calling himself doctor Tedim.
- 32:23Speaker 3: He spent time in prison.
- 32:24Speaker 15: He did at several years ago.
- 32:30Speaker 1: We're back now with more on the search for a
- 32:32Speaker 1: little girl in the nation's capital. Eight year old Relicia
- 32:35Speaker 1: rod is missing, vanished from the homeless shelter she was
- 32:38Speaker 1: living at with her family, and police are about to
- 32:41Speaker 1: get a huge clue about where she is and who
- 32:43Speaker 1: she's with thanks to a hotel security camera. She's a
- 32:51Speaker 1: precious and precocious little girl in mortal danger. Relicia Rod
- 32:56Speaker 1: has been missing for more than a month.
- 33:00Speaker 13: Its just shameful that she fell through the cracks of
- 33:03Speaker 13: the safety net and completely disappeared.
- 33:07Speaker 1: School officials say they believe that she is sick and
- 33:10Speaker 1: under the care of a doctor Tatum, but they're in
- 33:13Speaker 1: for a shot. The man in question is named Tatum,
- 33:17Speaker 1: all right, but he's no doctor. Far from it.
- 33:21Speaker 14: A social worker actually goes to the shelter and asks
- 33:25Speaker 14: around and realizes the only Tatum there is Khalil Tatum,
- 33:28Speaker 14: a custodian, not a doctor at all.
- 33:31Speaker 1: The supposed doctor is actually a janitor at the shelter.
- 33:35Speaker 1: He doesn't have a medical diploma on the wall, but
- 33:38Speaker 1: he does have an alarming rap sheet.
- 33:41Speaker 15: He'd been arrested multiple times, both in Washington, d c.
- 33:45Speaker 15: And Virginia for reglery charges and other various crimes.
- 33:50Speaker 3: He spent time in prison.
- 33:51Speaker 16: He did several years, and reporter Teresa Vargas as fifty
- 33:55Speaker 16: one year old Khalil Tatum spends a lot of time
- 33:58Speaker 16: with children in the building, especially with Leisia.
- 34:02Speaker 14: We know that the family described him as her godfather.
- 34:07Speaker 14: He'd buy her gifts, he would take her to the movies,
- 34:11Speaker 14: take her to the mall, take her to sleepovers.
- 34:14Speaker 1: Turns out Relicious mother Shamikha and knows Khalil Tatum pretty well,
- 34:18Speaker 1: or at least she thinks she does.
- 34:20Speaker 3: So you felt comfortable around him.
- 34:22Speaker 5: Yes, I did.
- 34:24Speaker 11: All the kids liked him, all the doors likes him.
- 34:29Speaker 1: Shamika tells police that the little girl had been staying
- 34:32Speaker 1: at her grandmother's house, but now she's missing, and so
- 34:36Speaker 1: is Khalil Tatum. Police are searching hard for both of them,
- 34:40Speaker 1: but cops do uncover this troubling piece of evidence, a
- 34:44Speaker 1: surveillance video from a local holiday inn. It was taken
- 34:47Speaker 1: back around the time Relicia first stopped showing up for school.
- 34:51Speaker 1: Look closely, that's Tatum on the left and little Relicia
- 34:54Speaker 1: walking down the hallway and then disappearing into a hotel room.
- 35:00Speaker 3: Relicia is seen going into the door. Is there a
- 35:04Speaker 3: video of her coming out?
- 35:06Speaker 4: So, because it's an open investigation, we can't really release
- 35:08Speaker 4: the information as far as what videos we have available
- 35:11Speaker 4: to us.
- 35:12Speaker 1: Please say, this haunting piece of surveillance footage is taking
- 35:15Speaker 1: at around the same time that Titum makes a simple
- 35:18Speaker 1: purchase that now seems terrified.
- 35:21Speaker 14: What we know is that Khalil Tatum checks into the
- 35:25Speaker 14: hotel and that a day later buys forty two gallon trashbacks.
- 35:31Speaker 3: What do you believe happened to your daughter?
- 35:33Speaker 5: My belief is something went wrong.
- 35:35Speaker 3: Where it went wrong, I don't know.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Then Shamika makes the stunning claim to multiple sources and
- 35:42Speaker 1: to Crime Watch Daily that her mother, Relicio's grandmother, was
- 35:45Speaker 1: involved in deceiving school officials. Then another shocker, Shamika says
- 35:52Speaker 1: her mother wrote fake doctor notes to the school, saying
- 35:55Speaker 1: Relicia was being cared for by the fictitious doctor Titum.
- 36:00Speaker 1: We cannot reach relicious grandmother for comment, but according to
- 36:04Speaker 1: a local TV news station in Washington, d C. She
- 36:07Speaker 1: in turn blamed Shamika for allowing Relicia to spend so
- 36:11Speaker 1: much time with Khalil Tato. Police have not fully sorted
- 36:15Speaker 1: out the accusations among Relicious.
- 36:18Speaker 4: Families, fingerpointing things like that, well, it's something that we
- 36:21Speaker 4: keep to the side because it affects the investigation. We
- 36:24Speaker 4: don't need it to steer us in an incorrect direction.
- 36:28Speaker 1: Fast forward to one day after police begin the search
- 36:31Speaker 1: for Relicia and Tata, and another bombshell has investigators reeling.
- 36:35Speaker 1: It's the body of Khylil Tatum's wife, Andrea tATu, found
- 36:40Speaker 1: in a hotel room in nearby Maryland.
- 36:43Speaker 15: They found her lying in bed again suffering from a gunshot.
- 36:47Speaker 3: Woe where was she struck in her head?
- 36:50Speaker 1: Surveillance tape showed Khalil and Andrea going into the hotel
- 36:54Speaker 1: room the night before the shooting. And now he's wanted
- 36:57Speaker 1: for possible abduction and for murder, but there is still
- 37:01Speaker 1: no sign of religion.
- 37:03Speaker 15: It's multi jurisdictional, multi agencies twenty four to seven. We're
- 37:07Speaker 15: trying to find him.
- 37:09Speaker 1: This story goes national as fear for Relicious Fate escalates
- 37:13Speaker 1: by the minute.
- 37:15Speaker 3: I hope she's alive, but his intentions clearly to be
- 37:19Speaker 3: our sinister.
- 37:20Speaker 1: And crime Watch Daily track down this man. Gerald Walls,
- 37:24Speaker 1: a former friend of the murdered Andrea Tatum, who makes
- 37:27Speaker 1: a shocking clan He says Andrea was silenced because she
- 37:31Speaker 1: knew too much about Relicious Fate.
- 37:34Speaker 3: What do you think she found out? Do you think
- 37:36Speaker 3: she was sold into traffic?
- 37:37Speaker 5: So I think she was so.
