- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time, a wave original.
- 0:09Speaker 1: My name is Bobani Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:12Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:16Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:18Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:21Speaker 1: a hater. It is Foxworth Friday. Dominique Foxworth, what's going on, man?
- 0:25Speaker 2: Not much, man. We're getting closer and closer to football
- 0:28Speaker 2: season when everybody's life gets a little easier.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Yo, everybody's life gets easier, and what amazes me, there's
- 0:34Speaker 1: nothing quite like the people on Twitter who are like, yo,
- 0:36Speaker 1: football's back. And I'm like, baby, it's the preseason kind.
- 0:40Speaker 1: And they still out there. They still here for that
- 0:44Speaker 1: near beer football.
- 0:46Speaker 2: I mean, I was about to say that nobody actually, like,
- 0:50Speaker 2: watches past the first few minutes, but I'm pretty sure
- 0:52Speaker 2: last time I checked, like, the preseason be out here
- 0:55Speaker 2: doing numbers. It's insane. Now, to be.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Fair, the competition is weak, right? But at the same.
- 1:04Speaker 3: Time, you put any football on television... and people are
- 1:11Speaker 3: lapping it up. It doesn't matter what kind.
- 1:14Speaker 4: Of football it is. People watch the Pro Bowl, right?
- 1:18Speaker 1: Like, in fact, the reason they had to change the
- 1:20Speaker 1: Pro Bowl to flag football, it really wasn't because people
- 1:23Speaker 1: didn't watch it. It's because they was watching it, and
- 1:26Speaker 1: people was getting embarrassed.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Yeah, we was watering down a product, right? When you
- 1:30Speaker 2: walk around, like, every time you watch football, you leave happy.
- 1:33Speaker 2: We can't have you watching football and leaving disappointed.
- 1:35Speaker 1: No, every time somebody would be like, yo, man, they
- 1:37Speaker 1: need to just get rid of the football, and they like.
- 1:39Speaker 4: brother, let me, let me, let me hand you this spreadsheet.
- 1:43Speaker 2: We need to get rid of the pro balls. Like, sir,
- 1:46Speaker 2: the pro ball is doing season finale numbers, my friends.
- 1:51Speaker 2: You know what the network's like? They like them numbers.
- 1:53Speaker 2: So we're going to keep something on here. I don't know.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Y'all can play. Y'all can not play. I don't know.
- 1:57Speaker 2: We play dodgeball. We're going to do something.
- 2:00Speaker 4: I feel like the thing.
- 2:01Speaker 1: So one thing I think that is often forgotten about
- 2:04Speaker 1: preseason football is the The NFL season is 20 weeks,
- 2:10Speaker 1: counting preseason and regular season. It has been that way
- 2:13Speaker 1: for a very long time. And when I say it's
- 2:15Speaker 1: been that way for a very long time, when it
- 2:17Speaker 1: was a 16-game season, there were four preseason games. But
- 2:21Speaker 1: when it was a 14-game season, there were six preseason games.
- 2:28Speaker 4: Six.
- 2:32Speaker 2: I can't imagine, man. I mean, I guess... Football requires
- 2:37Speaker 2: some acclimation. So, like, that's kind of why we... Well,
- 2:41Speaker 2: they don't even do it in college anymore where they
- 2:42Speaker 2: have the cupcakes at the front of the schedule. They
- 2:45Speaker 2: kicking that season off with something serious. And your teammates
- 2:48Speaker 2: your team yet? Like, we ain't real at this point.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Man, those August football games are so bad. And pretty soon,
- 2:58Speaker 1: they gonna have to start playing them motherfuckers at 7
- 3:00Speaker 1: o'clock in the morning, man.
- 3:01Speaker 4: It's 100 degrees outside.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Yeah, that... I had that conversation when we were talking
- 3:07Speaker 2: about Travis Hunter playing both ways, and Greeny was making
- 3:12Speaker 2: the argument that he did it at elevation. I was like, eh,
- 3:16Speaker 2: I get you. He was like, he did it at elevation,
- 3:18Speaker 2: so it's going to be easier down at sea level.
- 3:21Speaker 2: I was like, eh, you know what happens at sea level? Humidity.
- 3:24Speaker 2: You know what happens in Florida? Heat. I'd rather have
- 3:27Speaker 2: a hard time getting oxygen than be down there trying
- 3:30Speaker 2: to do 150 snaps In a hundred degree weather.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Yo, I do think this though about Travis Hunter.
- 3:36Speaker 4: When Travis Hunter's time on this.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Earth is up, it's going to be like Secretariat where
- 3:42Speaker 1: he's going to die and they're going to cut him
- 3:44Speaker 1: open and they're going to find out his heart.
- 3:46Speaker 4: Was like the size of a watermelon, right?
- 3:49Speaker 1: Like we are just going to find out that he
- 3:50Speaker 1: had something inside him that is completely different. He also
- 3:53Speaker 1: appears to have one of these young people things.
- 3:57Speaker 4: I mean, you know, I like, it.
- 3:59Speaker 1: May probably could be diagnosed. That boy don't never be still.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Anytime you see a clip of Travis Hunter, he is
- 4:05Speaker 1: always moving. That would drive me insane.
- 4:09Speaker 2: I don't say it to suggest that he can't do it.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Just saying like, it actually ain't easier. And you're right.
- 4:17Speaker 2: There are some people that I think just are different.
- 4:20Speaker 2: And we had this conversation about like me trying to
- 4:23Speaker 2: copy what Champ did when I first got there. It
- 4:25Speaker 2: took me three days to realize that. I can't. No,
- 4:30Speaker 2: I just can't. You're right. I think that's true about
- 4:33Speaker 2: Travis Hunter. But I'm just saying it ain't going to
- 4:35Speaker 2: be easier than it was in college. That's just the
- 4:38Speaker 2: crazy part to me.
- 4:39Speaker 4: No, but I am intrigued.
- 4:40Speaker 1: You are far more optimistic about the idea of him
- 4:43Speaker 1: playing on both sides than I am. Now, I think
- 4:46Speaker 1: when I've seen you talk about it, you made the
- 4:48Speaker 1: point that you think like 80-80, right? Like not playing
- 4:53Speaker 1: every snap of the game. I still think it's positively
- 4:57Speaker 1: insane that they're even going for this. But I think
- 4:59Speaker 1: the part that people need to remember is if you
- 5:02Speaker 1: look at how much Jacksonville gave up to trade up
- 5:05Speaker 1: to take him, it only makes sense. It can't just
- 5:10Speaker 1: be we're going to see if he can do both.
- 5:13Speaker 1: The plan must be that he could do both. The
- 5:17Speaker 1: difference between him and Shohei Ohtani is he only pitch
- 5:19Speaker 1: every five days.
- 5:21Speaker 4: And when you pitch, you don't have to play in
- 5:23Speaker 4: the field. He's going to do all of this apparently.
- 5:27Speaker 2: And like, I, I mean, no disrespect to baseball players,
- 5:32Speaker 2: but I assume that they would agree that like the
- 5:35Speaker 2: tax on your body is a little different. And he's like,
- 5:39Speaker 2: to your point, he's not playing both. He's not doing
- 5:42Speaker 2: both things at a high level at the same time,
- 5:45Speaker 2: but it's still just a different asking for different things.
- 5:47Speaker 2: There is playing corner and receiver and, it's going to
- 5:51Speaker 2: be tearing up the same muscles and body parts for
- 5:54Speaker 2: the course of an entire game. And so, like, I
- 5:58Speaker 2: don't think it's not insane. I just also think that
- 6:02Speaker 2: sometimes insane shit happens. To the point that you were making,
- 6:06Speaker 2: they might just do some sort of analysis of his
- 6:10Speaker 2: blood and find out that he just was born with
- 6:13Speaker 2: a lot more white blood cells or red blood cells
- 6:15Speaker 2: than anybody else. I don't know. It certainly seems like
- 6:18Speaker 2: what he's done so far suggests that if nothing else
- 6:20Speaker 2: is possible, But you said the thing about compensation from
- 6:24Speaker 2: one side. It only makes sense for the team. There's
- 6:27Speaker 2: the compensation question from the other side. You don't want
- 6:30Speaker 2: to get in the habit of doing two jobs for
- 6:33Speaker 2: the price of one.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Some people got mad at me about this when he
- 6:37Speaker 1: was at Colorado where I'm like, y'all keep acting like
- 6:40Speaker 1: y'all doing this boy a favor by letting him work
- 6:42Speaker 1: two jobs, by letting him work a double shift.
- 6:45Speaker 4: I'm like, what are you talking about? This is insane.
- 6:48Speaker 1: In the way NFL works, salaries are set up there's
- 6:52Speaker 1: no way at least on the rookie wage scale for
- 6:55Speaker 1: you to account for what we're talking about now maybe
- 6:58Speaker 1: he could wind up getting into that overage pool that
- 7:01Speaker 1: they have you know based on all the stuff he's doing.
- 7:04Speaker 2: But that don't work because that is uh the formula
- 7:08Speaker 2: includes where you were drafted oh yeah i i made
- 7:12Speaker 2: more my rookie year from that overage pool than i
- 7:15Speaker 2: did for my actual salaries because I was damn near
- 7:18Speaker 2: a fourth round draft pick. And so I was not
- 7:21Speaker 2: expected to play more than half of the defensive snaps.
- 7:25Speaker 2: It's different for him. I mean, I guess maybe he'll
- 7:27Speaker 2: break the formula if he plays on both sides of
- 7:29Speaker 2: the ball.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Right.
- 7:31Speaker 4: Here's my question. Does the formula even have accounting?
- 7:36Speaker 2: No, no. It goes by percentages, percentage of snaps on
- 7:43Speaker 2: your side of the ball. Or even if you combine them,
- 7:45Speaker 2: it's still going by percentage of snaps. It fucking around
- 7:48Speaker 2: and hurt him.
- 7:52Speaker 1: I think for me, and I just have eyeball scoutability, okay?
- 7:57Speaker 1: He looks like an all-pro caliber corner to me. And
- 8:04Speaker 1: like a very good receiver.
- 8:06Speaker 4: Like, I don't know.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Or maybe it's because I never really entertained the I
- 8:09Speaker 1: always thought him play a receiver was a bit more
- 8:11Speaker 1: toward like gimmick territory. Like, oh, let's throw him out here.
- 8:14Speaker 1: So I don't think when he was at Colorado, I
- 8:16Speaker 1: didn't give a lot of thought to him as a
- 8:17Speaker 1: receiver that I looked up and they said he had
- 8:18Speaker 1: 15 touchdown catches. And I was like, whoa, okay, this
- 8:22Speaker 1: is this is something now, you know, in the Big 12.
- 8:24Speaker 1: But still, it was like, oh, okay, I guess that's
- 8:28Speaker 1: what's going on here. But he out here working these doubles,
- 8:31Speaker 1: and think he the one coming out on top.
- 8:35Speaker 4: That's tough, man.
- 8:36Speaker 2: That is tough. You pointed out the rookie wage situation.
- 8:40Speaker 2: There's a cap limitation. There's also, when you get to
- 8:43Speaker 2: your contract, it's like we always base these contracts off
- 8:47Speaker 2: of precedent at your position. And so since he has
- 8:51Speaker 2: potentially an unprecedented contract position like we see this time
- 8:55Speaker 2: and time again where guys are abnormally impactful for the
- 9:00Speaker 2: position that they play and then they're caught in this
- 9:03Speaker 2: trick bag where they're trying to convince everyone else to
- 9:06Speaker 2: treat me treat me a tight end like a receiver
- 9:09Speaker 2: that's the way the yeah because that's the way this
- 9:12Speaker 2: offense is using me and treating me or treat me
- 9:15Speaker 2: like a defensive end even though I'm a tackle but
- 9:18Speaker 2: I'm having this type of impact so That aside, even
- 9:21Speaker 2: a franchise tag is a steal for him. The point
- 9:24Speaker 2: of the franchise tag is kind of to force both
- 9:26Speaker 2: sides to make a deal because of the cap implications.
- 9:30Speaker 2: It makes it pretty hard. But then if you go
- 9:32Speaker 2: into the actual open market, make me the highest paid corner,
- 9:37Speaker 2: make me the highest paid receiver. Yeah, sure. Even if
- 9:40Speaker 2: I'm not great at both, if I'm average at one
- 9:44Speaker 2: and good at the other, I deserve a lot more
- 9:47Speaker 2: than anybody else playing this game short of Patrick Mahomes,
- 9:50Speaker 2: Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow. Everybody else, get behind me.
- 9:55Speaker 2: And that's just not going to work as a negotiation tactic. No,
- 9:57Speaker 2: it's not.
- 9:58Speaker 4: By the way, speaking of Lamar.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Jackson, Josh Allen, and I just thought about this because
- 10:03Speaker 1: you mentioned their names.
- 10:05Speaker 4: You know, we do on our list over here, right?
- 10:09Speaker 2: We got our.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Top 25 athletes of the top 25 years. And sometimes
- 10:13Speaker 1: we take out clips from those things and we put
- 10:15Speaker 1: them on the Internet and but people don't understand that
- 10:18Speaker 1: the clips are coming from a list, right? They just
- 10:22Speaker 1: don't get that. And so in making my case for
- 10:26Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson in the context of the 25 and 25 years,
- 10:31Speaker 1: discuss the fact that he's a two-time MVP who would
- 10:34Speaker 1: be a three-time MVP, except they felt like giving Josh
- 10:37Speaker 1: Allen an MVP, which I think is incontrovertibly true. You
- 10:40Speaker 1: can't make the argument that you thought that Lamar was
- 10:43Speaker 1: first team. This is like that offensive player of the
- 10:44Speaker 1: year award. that is always there just so somebody else
- 10:47Speaker 1: can get some love, right? You can't make the guy
- 10:50Speaker 1: first team all pro at quarterback and then not vote
- 10:53Speaker 1: for him at MVP, right?
- 10:56Speaker 4: That seems very Solomonic. You're splitting the baby, dog, right?
- 11:02Speaker 2: Acting like Solomon out here.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, there we go, right? Like that's what we're doing.
- 11:06Speaker 1: You better call Saul so he say you're going to
- 11:08Speaker 1: cut the baby in half. And rather than somebody saying, no, no, no,
- 11:12Speaker 1: don't cut the baby in half, people are like, who,
- 11:14Speaker 1: half of you?
- 11:15Speaker 4: You cut, I choose. Right? They went with that part.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Brother, there is a fictional Lamar Jackson-Josh Allen rivalry that
- 11:25Speaker 1: only exists.
- 11:26Speaker 4: On the internet and really exists in Buffalo.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Because they think me and you still hate Josh Allen.
- 11:34Speaker 4: And first of all, we never hated him in the
- 11:36Speaker 4: first place.
- 11:37Speaker 1: But I'm like, you clearly don't listen to anything that
- 11:40Speaker 1: we say about Josh Allen.
- 11:42Speaker 2: It ain't. I mean, it ain't. I think you did
- 11:47Speaker 2: the Hulk Hogan thing, which I thought you did a
- 11:49Speaker 2: good job talking about that. And I think that all
- 11:53Speaker 2: of this stuff is sports entertainment, and some of it
- 11:56Speaker 2: is more sports than entertainment. Obviously, the wrestling is more
- 12:00Speaker 2: entertainment than sports, but I think some of the fan
- 12:04Speaker 2: behavior and some of the analysis of sports is heavily entertainment.
- 12:10Speaker 2: And I think that what you need in entertainment is
- 12:13Speaker 2: you need a good guy and you need a bad guy. Yes.
- 12:16Speaker 2: And all of us in sports media gave them enough
- 12:19Speaker 2: to make us the bad guy, and they ain't going
- 12:21Speaker 2: to let it go, which is fine. They ain't going
- 12:23Speaker 2: to let it go. I'm still experiencing the... I was
- 12:28Speaker 2: talking about the Jalen Hurts stuff. I still got that
- 12:33Speaker 2: going on. Whereas I say only positive things about Jalen
- 12:36Speaker 2: Hurts before and after the Pretty Privileged joke. And now
- 12:42Speaker 2: this man making money. I can't even get it in commercial. Jalen,
- 12:46Speaker 2: give me a call, man. I would have reset the
- 12:48Speaker 2: shit for the Sprite commercial for a couple bucks.
- 12:51Speaker 1: I forgot that they were saying that your woman wanted
- 12:54Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts more than you.
- 12:56Speaker 4: I completely forgot that.
- 12:58Speaker 1: So for those who don't remember what had happened, Dominique
- 13:02Speaker 1: got on television and said something that I thought was funny.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Let me not say that you thought was funny because
- 13:07Speaker 1: that sounds like passive-aggressive shade.
- 13:10Speaker 4: It's fine.
- 13:11Speaker 2: It obviously wasn't funny enough.
- 13:12Speaker 1: But I can't remember exactly what he said, something that
- 13:16Speaker 1: didn't make no sense. Like, I remember that very clearly
- 13:19Speaker 1: being the issue. Whatever he said didn't add up. And
- 13:21Speaker 1: Dominique was like, look, he only getting away with this.
- 13:23Speaker 1: This pretty privilege. People think he good looking and therefore
- 13:26Speaker 1: he could get away with saying this. And then it
- 13:28Speaker 1: got aggregated. And they're like, oh, you know, you know,
- 13:30Speaker 1: Fosworth girl must be all up on him. You know,
- 13:32Speaker 1: he can't get no doubt. And I'm like, boy, you guys.
- 13:34Speaker 1: have a serious misunderstanding of the confidence level of Dominique Foxworth,
- 13:38Speaker 1: number one.
- 13:38Speaker 4: Like, it was so wild as I'm hearing this, and
- 13:41Speaker 4: I hope.
- 13:41Speaker 1: That people feel like this about me when some stuff happens,
- 13:44Speaker 1: where they pop up and they're like, oh yeah, I
- 13:46Speaker 1: don't really know this dude at all, right? And so
- 13:48Speaker 1: they was coming at Dominique from every corner, and you're
- 13:52Speaker 1: obviously joking, you're laughing the whole nine, but you was
- 13:55Speaker 1: the cat that everybody was mad at for that day
- 13:59Speaker 1: because everybody need to find somebody that they go wind
- 14:02Speaker 1: up being mad at and they was mad at you
- 14:04Speaker 1: about Jalen Hurts and let me tell you something man
- 14:07Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts gonna be an interesting one for me because
- 14:10Speaker 1: I still have not seen any reason for me to
- 14:13Speaker 1: change my opinion of him yeah right like I still
- 14:18Speaker 1: think that he is a good quarterback I still think
- 14:22Speaker 1: that well it may be different this year because they
- 14:24Speaker 1: had a lot of changes in personnel but last year
- 14:26Speaker 1: their weakest position group was quarterback. Now, if you think
- 14:31Speaker 1: that he is a top four or five quarterback in
- 14:33Speaker 1: the league, that still fits because every position group they
- 14:36Speaker 1: had was higher than top four, right? From offensive line,
- 14:42Speaker 1: running back, wide receivers, defensive line, linebackers, DBs.
- 14:47Speaker 4: They was all the way up there.
- 14:49Speaker 1: And if Jalen Hurts was the fifth best quarterback in
- 14:51Speaker 1: the league, which I think we all agree is the
- 14:53Speaker 1: highest that you could reasonably put him, then that was
- 14:55Speaker 1: still their weakest position group, right? But we've made it
- 15:03Speaker 1: in this world such that the quarterback is the answer
- 15:06Speaker 1: for everything, in spite of if we see it here.
- 15:10Speaker 4: And, you know, people like him, right? He is a
- 15:12Speaker 4: well-liked player.
- 15:15Speaker 1: It's going to take more for me to change where
- 15:17Speaker 1: I come from on Jalen Hurts than it did for
- 15:19Speaker 1: me to change where I came from on Josh Allen. Now, granted,
- 15:21Speaker 1: I never thought he was terrible like I thought Josh
- 15:23Speaker 1: Allen was terrible. But I'm not, I don't think I
- 15:27Speaker 1: can get there to top five, or at least I
- 15:29Speaker 1: am not there yet. If he shows that he, like
- 15:31Speaker 1: a leap, not even a leap, but a jump in
- 15:33Speaker 1: his play, I might be able to ride out with you,
- 15:36Speaker 1: but they still don't seem like they really want to
- 15:38Speaker 1: throw the ball unless they got to.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Yeah, and if any other situation you could survive, or
- 15:44Speaker 2: not even survive, thrive the way they thrived without throwing
- 15:47Speaker 2: the ball, of course you don't. Because you know what's
- 15:50Speaker 2: high risk, high reward is throwing a deep pass. You
- 15:52Speaker 2: know what's low risk and high reward? Running that thing
- 15:56Speaker 2: for 55 yards. So they had a unique situation, and
- 15:58Speaker 2: he played well in important moments. The conversation about Jalen
- 16:03Speaker 2: that I find more interesting, rather than making these comparisons,
- 16:07Speaker 2: it's just like how astonishing his career has been.
- 16:10Speaker 4: Amazing.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Like the track record. And the thing that I marvel
- 16:17Speaker 2: at for him is how every situation there are major
- 16:20Speaker 2: setbacks that would be like, oh, ain't nobody coming back
- 16:24Speaker 2: from this. And somehow he comes back. And jumps over it.
- 16:27Speaker 2: That's why I kind of feel like the people, especially
- 16:31Speaker 2: since Jalen doesn't seem to care that much, the people
- 16:33Speaker 2: who constantly want us to compare him to Patrick Mahomes
- 16:38Speaker 2: and the likes of them are doing him a disservice.
- 16:41Speaker 2: It kind of feels like I ran... a marathon and
- 16:47Speaker 2: you like, but what about them ultras though? I just
- 16:52Speaker 2: ran damn near 25 miles. Can we, like that to
- 16:55Speaker 2: me is what's so impressive about, we can go through
- 16:59Speaker 2: the whole history of his career, but he obviously, he
- 17:02Speaker 2: kind of failed to some degree at Alabama, then went
- 17:05Speaker 2: on and won the Heisman somewhere else. Well, hold on.
- 17:08Speaker 4: This is where it's interesting, right?
- 17:10Speaker 1: It's major setbacks while also being wildly successful.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:18Speaker 4: Okay.
- 17:19Speaker 1: So freshman year at Alabama, he was the offensive player
- 17:22Speaker 1: of the year. He was first team, all SEC. And
- 17:26Speaker 1: if I'm not mistaken, he was a Heisman Trophy finalist, right?
- 17:29Speaker 1: Like he was way up there. And then they were, oh, see,
- 17:34Speaker 1: remember they got mad at me because I said every
- 17:36Speaker 1: team Jalen Hurts has been on has ultimately been held
- 17:39Speaker 1: back by his shortcomings as a passer, which by the way,
- 17:43Speaker 1: when I said that was absolutely true. He gets to Alabama,
- 17:48Speaker 1: I mean, Oklahoma. And if I'm not mistaken, he was
- 17:51Speaker 1: Heisman Trophy runner up first team, all big 12, third team.
- 17:58Speaker 4: All American as I'm looking at it. Not that good
- 18:02Speaker 4: a passer.
- 18:02Speaker 1: But again, everything I'm saying, yeah, but look at the
- 18:05Speaker 1: wild success that we're talking about at the top level
- 18:08Speaker 1: of it. His second year as an NFL starter. They
- 18:11Speaker 1: made it to the Super Bowl where he played a
- 18:14Speaker 1: better game than Patrick Mahomes.
- 18:16Speaker 2: That's the crazy part, man.
- 18:18Speaker 4: But then the next year it was like, bro, I
- 18:20Speaker 4: don't know about your meds. Like it's it's we say
- 18:25Speaker 4: we keep talking setbacks.
- 18:27Speaker 1: But there's so many highs that if that's all you
- 18:30Speaker 1: ever did, would it be great?
- 18:34Speaker 2: It just feels so unfair as soon as he does these.
- 18:38Speaker 2: And it's not even that they're setbacks. They feel like
- 18:42Speaker 2: falls that would be almost impossible to come back from.
- 18:45Speaker 2: It's like on the highest stage at Alabama, they benched
- 18:50Speaker 2: him and the other guy took his spot. It's hard
- 18:52Speaker 2: to bounce back from that. And then you're a second
- 18:55Speaker 2: round pick behind a guy who's a damn near wins
- 18:58Speaker 2: the MVP. It's hard to come in there and take
- 19:00Speaker 2: that spot. Then you go to Super Bowl play well
- 19:03Speaker 2: and have a really like a bad season the following
- 19:06Speaker 2: year in your second pick. It's hard to come back
- 19:08Speaker 2: from that. He then comes back and balls out in
- 19:11Speaker 2: a Super Bowl again and wins one and gets a
- 19:12Speaker 2: Super Bowl MVP. It's that all the Jalen Hurts supporters,
- 19:16Speaker 2: if you really cared about him, that's what we need
- 19:18Speaker 2: to be focusing on. Stop pushing him out here to
- 19:21Speaker 2: go fight these other bullies. Let's celebrate what he's done
- 19:24Speaker 2: so far.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Well, I will say, though, the one thing that I
- 19:29Speaker 1: don't think was as hard as you pointed to was
- 19:32Speaker 1: unseating Carson Wentz.
- 19:34Speaker 4: I have two rationale.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Number one, for whatever reason, the people around him don't
- 19:41Speaker 1: seem to like him that much. I don't know why.
- 19:46Speaker 1: But number two, second round picks unseated. are intended to
- 19:51Speaker 1: be starters. Somebody took him with the thought of, you know,
- 19:56Speaker 1: maybe we can get.
- 19:57Speaker 4: This other cat out of here and do it for
- 20:00Speaker 4: the cheap. But you're right.
- 20:02Speaker 1: He has pulled it off. And now this year is
- 20:04Speaker 1: going to be interesting because they don't have all the
- 20:06Speaker 1: same guys, right? Like, Mekhi Becton not playing left guard
- 20:10Speaker 1: or whichever guard he played for you. They didn't dare
- 20:12Speaker 1: put him on the same side as Lane, did they?
- 20:14Speaker 2: He was on the right.
- 20:16Speaker 4: Oh, God.
- 20:16Speaker 2: I think he was on the right.
- 20:17Speaker 4: The eclipse. They just had an eclipse on the right
- 20:20Speaker 4: side of the line. I can't imagine.
- 20:21Speaker 1: You imagine you play over there and it's Lane on
- 20:24Speaker 1: the other side.
- 20:24Speaker 4: And you're like, no, let me get the light work.
- 20:26Speaker 4: The 375-pound guy next to him.
- 20:31Speaker 2: First round pick.
- 20:33Speaker 1: I told you, I posted up with Lane at Super
- 20:35Speaker 1: Bowl in Vegas and I just couldn't believe it.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Yeah, Lane, I remember, I think it was at the
- 20:43Speaker 2: same party we saw where he was walking around with
- 20:45Speaker 2: a diamond chain.
- 20:46Speaker 4: Big old chain.
- 20:46Speaker 2: I was like, man, I didn't even know how to
- 20:49Speaker 2: feel or think. It just, yeah, sometimes it's just different
- 20:53Speaker 2: species of humans and Lane fits in that category.
- 20:58Speaker 4: Ryan says that Lane Johnson used to be a quarterback.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I've heard that.
- 21:03Speaker 1: I don't understand what that means. Like, what are you
- 21:06Speaker 1: talking about? Quarterback where and how? Like, I'm hearing this
- 21:10Speaker 1: and I'm suspended.
- 21:13Speaker 2: He was a quarterback in Juco. Hold up, hold up.
- 21:18Speaker 4: So we're not even talking about like seventh grade.
- 21:20Speaker 2: No, no, no, not in high school. He played quarterback
- 21:22Speaker 2: in tight end at Juco.
- 21:24Speaker 4: What fucking offense were they running?
- 21:27Speaker 2: Would Lane Johnson show up and say, I'm a quarterback?
- 21:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:31Speaker 4: I mean, yo, let me tell you this.
- 21:33Speaker 1: I just thought of something that could... I mean, maybe
- 21:36Speaker 1: it would mess the party up.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Oh, I know.
- 21:38Speaker 4: You know what I just thought about, didn't you?
- 21:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:40Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Just pushing Lane Johnson as quarterback.
- 21:47Speaker 2: I just thought about it.
- 21:48Speaker 4: Would you.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Would you lose with like with losing Lane Johnson as
- 21:52Speaker 1: the tackle mess it up or would it make the
- 21:54Speaker 1: touch push absolutely more unstoppable?
- 21:57Speaker 2: Yeah, it would make it. I mean, that should be
- 21:59Speaker 2: first down play. We get four at least. We get
- 22:02Speaker 2: four at least. And that reminds me of like the
- 22:05Speaker 2: Trent Williams when the 49ers had that man running in motion.
- 22:10Speaker 2: To kick out.
- 22:11Speaker 4: Oh, me and you both were like, hey, y'all can't
- 22:13Speaker 4: allow this.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Rules committee. Hey, I need to send y'all this video.
- 22:20Speaker 1: That's like that in all the plays that Big Brain
- 22:22Speaker 1: Ben used to run for Sewell.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Yep, exactly. I think so. My son is probably going
- 22:28Speaker 2: to play tackle for the first time this year. And
- 22:30Speaker 2: they're like certain rules to keep like the bigger kids
- 22:34Speaker 2: in certain leagues away. Like you can't be like 220
- 22:37Speaker 2: and running the ball because nobody can't tackle you. Yeah,
- 22:40Speaker 2: we need to institute some of that around here, around
- 22:42Speaker 2: the NFL.
- 22:43Speaker 1: I've been thinking about this with Sewell. And just before
- 22:46Speaker 1: I say this, I need y'all to understand. I'm not
- 22:50Speaker 1: the one being racist. How soon is Vince McMahon at
- 22:55Speaker 1: Sewell's door the second he says he don't want to
- 22:57Speaker 1: play football no more? Like, I'm actually surprised that Vince
- 23:00Speaker 1: McMahon wasn't in the parking lot at Oregon every day
- 23:04Speaker 1: trying to figure out how to get Sewell to be
- 23:06Speaker 1: a wrestler.
- 23:08Speaker 2: I mean, wouldn't The history of wrestling is not even
- 23:13Speaker 2: with you being in your nationality. If we can trick them,
- 23:18Speaker 2: we gonna trick them.
- 23:20Speaker 1: I'm just saying, him as a Polynesian is a long
- 23:23Speaker 1: line of big old athletic Polynesians. Other than The Rock,
- 23:29Speaker 1: when's the last time we had a really good Polynesian wrestler?
- 23:32Speaker 1: I ain't been paying attention because the problem was all
- 23:35Speaker 1: the portrayals of the Polynesian wrestlers were Over the top racist.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Like it always seemed like Jimmy Superfly Schnooker was ready
- 23:43Speaker 1: to drink out of somebody's head. Like crack it open.
- 23:47Speaker 1: They always had him out there. Like they was about
- 23:50Speaker 1: to eat Captain Cook. Oh, I forgot Roman Reigns. He
- 23:53Speaker 1: Apollo Nietzsche.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Oh, is he?
- 23:54Speaker 4: Oh, okay.
- 23:54Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't know. I don't follow it like I
- 23:56Speaker 2: used to, obviously.
- 23:57Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 23:58Speaker 2: But I do remember that they just had to cheat code.
- 24:01Speaker 2: They're like, look, we, we, you know how we can
- 24:03Speaker 2: tell stories. is if we show you something and we
- 24:06Speaker 2: know exactly what you're thinking, we gonna reinforce it. We
- 24:09Speaker 2: don't gotta drive it home anymore than we already have.
- 24:11Speaker 4: That's correct.
- 24:12Speaker 1: But I still think that Panay Sewell, like, they would've,
- 24:15Speaker 1: I don't know if he got a brother, but Vince
- 24:17Speaker 1: would've made them a tag team. They'd have been out
- 24:20Speaker 1: there doing some incredible moves.
- 24:22Speaker 4: Oh, my God.
- 24:23Speaker 1: You know the thing where you give him, throw him,
- 24:26Speaker 1: what they call it, the Irish whip, and then you
- 24:28Speaker 1: throw him in the ropes, and then when they run
- 24:30Speaker 1: at you, you jump up like spread eagle over him.
- 24:33Speaker 4: I bet you Sewell can do that.
- 24:34Speaker 1: I would be afraid for him to try that trick
- 24:36Speaker 1: on my watch, but I bet you Sewell could do that.
- 24:38Speaker 2: There was just like a random D-line in that, and
- 24:42Speaker 2: when I was in Denver, that could just hit backflips.
- 24:45Speaker 2: I was just like, I couldn't do a backflip. I
- 24:48Speaker 2: was 200 pounds lighter than him. And faster, more explosive.
- 24:52Speaker 2: It's just like the level. Who was the guy? It
- 24:56Speaker 2: was Tristan Wirfs, right? That man did a vertical leap
- 25:02Speaker 2: out of a pool. Go try it. Google it. Look
- 25:08Speaker 2: it up. Watch him do it. Then go goddamn try it.
- 25:13Speaker 4: Do you know how hard that is? It's absurd.
- 25:16Speaker 2: You know how much strength you have to have and power?
- 25:19Speaker 2: It's not just strength and power. exposed because he's also big.
- 25:23Speaker 2: You throw your body out of a pool.
- 25:26Speaker 1: I believe is that also when it works, worse went
- 25:30Speaker 1: to Iowa.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Oh yeah. Iowa.
- 25:32Speaker 4: Yeah. Okay.
- 25:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:33Speaker 1: That Iowa strength program, man, that Iowa strength program is
- 25:39Speaker 1: a whole nother thing. I'd also want to say this
- 25:41Speaker 1: while I'm thinking about it with the Polynesians. Don't the
- 25:44Speaker 1: Polynesians break all of our binary race-based assumptions of athletic
- 25:48Speaker 1: ability and Like, where do the Polynesians fall in on this?
- 25:52Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Yeah, we haven't paid. I mean, outside of football, it's and.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I mean, I seem to be the
- 26:01Speaker 1: only sport that we really done got them into. But
- 26:03Speaker 1: they be out there running. They be out there jumping.
- 26:05Speaker 1: They be doing all that stuff. And all I'm saying
- 26:08Speaker 1: is like that boy Tua, if we didn't know that
- 26:11Speaker 1: Polynesia existed. Where he get his hair cut at, you
- 26:16Speaker 1: feel me?
- 26:17Speaker 2: Right?
- 26:18Speaker 4: Like they would be saying that's us.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Yeah, his brother went to Maryland and was a quarterback
- 26:23Speaker 2: there for a while. And yeah, that's us.
- 26:27Speaker 4: Yeah, they out there trying to explain to the cops. No, no, no.
- 26:32Speaker 2: No, no, no.
- 26:33Speaker 4: Why you going through my shit, man? Like, no, come on, man. Oh,
- 26:37Speaker 4: it happened.
- 26:38Speaker 1: Y'all think, Reed, Reed, don't you see all these letters?
- 26:42Speaker 1: That ain't African. You know what I'm saying?
- 26:44Speaker 4: They out here trying to get out of the, get
- 26:45Speaker 4: out of the trick bag. Cause they've been discriminated against
- 26:48Speaker 4: in that moment.
- 26:50Speaker 2: I can't get past the jumping out of a pool.
- 26:52Speaker 2: It's summertime. So y'all, y'all are y'all probably in pools
- 26:55Speaker 2: every now and then just try it.
- 26:57Speaker 1: The other thing is, it's not just the fact that
- 26:59Speaker 1: you could jump out the pool and make it is
- 27:01Speaker 1: that you got to have the confidence to know you got,
- 27:03Speaker 1: you got to make that clearly because otherwise this could
- 27:06Speaker 1: turn into a catastrophe.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Yeah. at that size like what are you doing man
- 27:11Speaker 2: there's only there's only one way to get out of
- 27:13Speaker 2: pools it's a climb out that's the only way anyone's
- 27:16Speaker 2: ever gotten out of pools sometimes with a ladder sometimes
- 27:18Speaker 2: on the ledge no one's ever gotten out of a
- 27:21Speaker 2: pool in any other way there's many ways to get
- 27:23Speaker 2: in the pool but there's only one way to get
- 27:25Speaker 2: out unless your name is tristan works i ain't never
- 27:27Speaker 2: seen nobody else do.
- 27:28Speaker 1: That well i also think the other thing that people
- 27:30Speaker 1: lose sight of generally speaking about the athleticism of offensive
- 27:33Speaker 1: linemen is they're not faster than you but they're faster
- 27:36Speaker 1: than me They're faster than 95% of the people who
- 27:40Speaker 1: are listening to this podcast.
- 27:41Speaker 4: Like, oh, man, he ran a 5.2 in the 40.
- 27:44Speaker 4: You go do it.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Go do it right now, and I bet you're not
- 27:47Speaker 1: going to put up no 5.2.
- 27:49Speaker 2: That is always funny how people just assume, yeah, that
- 27:54Speaker 2: they can run a certain time. Like, it happens every year.
- 27:56Speaker 2: No one gets out of it. Like, yeah, y'all listening,
- 27:59Speaker 2: y'all running 7.6s. Like, it's a long, long way, unless
- 28:04Speaker 2: you're a college athlete or something. It's a long way
- 28:07Speaker 2: to run.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Yeah, most of y'all ain't getting no 40-yard. And them
- 28:10Speaker 1: big boys be out there getting it. Like when Andre
- 28:12Speaker 1: Smith that year, when he was out there with them
- 28:15Speaker 1: thangs swanging left and right and we had all them jokes,
- 28:17Speaker 1: his big ass was running faster than you could.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Oh, gosh. I'm sorry. I got sidetracked. I was just
- 28:23Speaker 2: watching this man explode out of a pool.
- 28:28Speaker 1: I tell you, man, that sizzle reel that the Iowa
- 28:31Speaker 1: strength program, you know, they had to get rid of
- 28:34Speaker 1: that one strength coach, you know, because all that sizzle.
- 28:38Speaker 1: In fact, we need to go look at the roster, man,
- 28:40Speaker 1: see if they got any more of the new phenomenon
- 28:43Speaker 1: coming out of there. Because they had our boy Coop,
- 28:46Speaker 1: Riley Moss. They be trying the new phenomenon out there.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Shout out to the OG new phenomenon from Iowa, Tim Dwight.
- 28:54Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 28:55Speaker 2: Riley Moss is underappreciated. Coop got a lot of love
- 28:58Speaker 2: because of his basketball tape and because his team was
- 29:01Speaker 2: really good and he played in big-time moments and made plays.
- 29:04Speaker 2: I don't mean this to be judgmental of him, but
- 29:07Speaker 2: I think we got to be honest. He's a hell
- 29:11Speaker 2: of a white nickel. Nickel.
- 29:15Speaker 4: Nickel.
- 29:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Emphasize that. Yeah. My bad. Oh, no, no.
- 29:25Speaker 4: You did just fine. I just need you to know
- 29:28Speaker 4: who your real friends are. You know what I'm saying?
- 29:30Speaker 4: I'm not going to leave you out there.
- 29:31Speaker 2: I appreciate it. And I know that Cooper DeGene, you
- 29:35Speaker 2: and I were on this early. I know he has
- 29:38Speaker 2: the ability to play on the outside. and does sometimes.
- 29:42Speaker 2: But we underappreciate Riley Moss because that man play on
- 29:46Speaker 2: the outside all the time. And he plays opposite Patrick Sertan.
- 29:50Speaker 2: And that's not even it. On a defense, on a
- 29:54Speaker 2: defense that only plays man-to-man coverage. Every snap just about.
- 30:01Speaker 4: Milk check every down.
- 30:04Speaker 1: I had not considered the fact that he is the
- 30:07Speaker 1: other corner. And you as someone who has lived a
- 30:10Speaker 1: life as being the other corner on the other side
- 30:13Speaker 1: of that guy.
- 30:14Speaker 4: You getting a workout today, buddy.
- 30:17Speaker 2: I've been the other corner on the other side of
- 30:19Speaker 2: one of the best in the league and in the
- 30:21Speaker 2: history of the league. And I also... have a complexion
- 30:24Speaker 2: that will make you think twice and put up a
- 30:26Speaker 2: 40 time that might make you run some short routes.
- 30:30Speaker 2: Riley Moss is out there. And again, I played in
- 30:33Speaker 2: a defense that we mixed some zone in. We did
- 30:35Speaker 2: a lot of zero blitzes and some man coverage, but
- 30:38Speaker 2: we mixed in some fours and twos. That ain't really
- 30:40Speaker 2: what they doing. I ain't looked up the percentage, but
- 30:42Speaker 2: they have to lead the league in man coverage percentage.
- 30:45Speaker 2: And he just out there manned up all game long.
- 30:49Speaker 1: I think part of why Coop gets the attention is,
- 30:52Speaker 1: I remember where Riley Moss was going through draft process.
- 30:54Speaker 1: I think he was a second or third round pick,
- 30:56Speaker 1: somewhere in there. But, you know, the projections were that
- 30:59Speaker 1: he would be there. You'd see people talking about it,
- 31:01Speaker 1: but they didn't really, like, get into the conversation. And
- 31:04Speaker 1: I think he walked so that Coop could run. Like,
- 31:07Speaker 1: once it became clear that Riley Moss was an actual, like,
- 31:11Speaker 1: NFL player, now we... But even then, they were still
- 31:14Speaker 1: real skeptical on our guy Coop, right? I think they
- 31:17Speaker 1: started looking at him a little closer, like, huh, look
- 31:19Speaker 1: at that nose.
- 31:19Speaker 4: I think he might be able to.
- 31:21Speaker 1: I think he might be able to get it done.
- 31:25Speaker 2: Trying to claim my man.
- 31:30Speaker 4: That's right.
- 31:31Speaker 2: That's right, man. Oh, goodness, man.
- 31:34Speaker 4: Coming up next. Coming up next. We're going to talk
- 31:36Speaker 4: about Jerry Jones being all something a little bit cuckoo.
- 31:39Speaker 2: All right.
- 31:41Speaker 1: We are back with Dominique Foxworth. And I was sitting
- 31:45Speaker 1: here minding my own business, getting ready for the show.
- 31:48Speaker 4: Coming up with stuff.
- 31:49Speaker 1: And I look up on the television and you up
- 31:51Speaker 1: there with Adam Schefter and you were there with Ryan Clark.
- 31:55Speaker 1: And Adam Schefter was explaining how the Michael Parsons deal
- 31:58Speaker 1: is not imminent because Michael Parsons just at practice looking
- 32:01Speaker 1: sad every day, right?
- 32:03Speaker 4: Just looking bummed out.
- 32:05Speaker 1: But he got to come so they don't find him,
- 32:07Speaker 1: you know, take his money away from him. And Adam
- 32:10Speaker 1: Schefter told us the reason that apparently a deal has
- 32:14Speaker 1: not been done with Michael Parsons.
- 32:16Speaker 4: And if you haven't heard this, this is pretty amazing.
- 32:20Speaker 1: So apparently, Jerry Jones and Micah Parsons had worked out
- 32:26Speaker 1: the framework of a deal. Notice I say Jerry Jones
- 32:30Speaker 1: and Micah Parsons. I don't mean Jerry Jones and Micah
- 32:32Speaker 1: Parsons camp. I mean Jerry Jones and Micah Parsons had
- 32:37Speaker 1: worked this deal out. And at some point, Micah Parsons' agent,
- 32:43Speaker 1: David Mulgeda, was like, what?
- 32:46Speaker 4: You lost your mind.
- 32:48Speaker 1: And so now he's coming in and trying to undo
- 32:51Speaker 1: some of what had been discussed, right?
- 32:56Speaker 5: But Jerry Jones is like, hey, deal's a deal. Well,
- 33:00Speaker 5: you already worked that part out. And that is a
- 33:02Speaker 5: significant part of why we're still here. The way Adam
- 33:05Speaker 5: Schefter talked about it is the idea of the deal
- 33:07Speaker 5: is foregone conclusion is not there.
- 33:09Speaker 1: That they've got to undo and redo in order to
- 33:13Speaker 1: make this happen.
- 33:14Speaker 4: And Dominique, how did they make this so difficult?
- 33:17Speaker 1: I mean, you don't give Michael Parsons exactly what he
- 33:21Speaker 1: asked for, but you kind of do.
- 33:25Speaker 2: I was going to say that I don't want to
- 33:26Speaker 2: repeat the stuff that I said on Get Up, but
- 33:29Speaker 2: I imagine that. excuse me, not everybody is watching.
- 33:33Speaker 1: Hold on, you're not required to make up new answers
- 33:35Speaker 1: when the answer is the answer.
- 33:37Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying? Just so you know. We
- 33:39Speaker 4: can't let these motherfuckers have this because I've been seeing
- 33:41Speaker 4: this happen too. We were like, man, you said the
- 33:43Speaker 4: same thing over. Sometimes you do that.
- 33:47Speaker 2: I just have a hard time because I understand when
- 33:52Speaker 2: there are situations, I understand why some negotiations get difficult
- 33:58Speaker 2: and contentious. Like, While I rarely and probably never as
- 34:02Speaker 2: fair end up on the side of management, I understand.
- 34:06Speaker 2: I pipe down a little bit if that argument has happened.
- 34:10Speaker 2: I just might avoid that topic because I don't feel
- 34:13Speaker 2: like caping for them. This one don't make no sense. Like,
- 34:17Speaker 2: this is a simple situation, and there are negotiations in this.
- 34:22Speaker 2: This should not be a negotiation. I think this is
- 34:24Speaker 2: tantamount to a max salary in basketball. Like, it's time.
- 34:31Speaker 2: This is what he get. Pay him. This is not
- 34:33Speaker 2: someone you should negotiate with. He was a first round
- 34:36Speaker 2: pick who performed better than you, who performed like on
- 34:39Speaker 2: a Hall of Fame track. What are we doing? You
- 34:44Speaker 2: pay him $ 1 more than the person who got paid
- 34:47Speaker 2: at that position prior to him. You make him the
- 34:50Speaker 2: highest paid non-quarterback in the league. The sooner you can
- 34:52Speaker 2: do it, the better off you can be. That's what
- 34:55Speaker 2: I don't understand is you have to understand that There
- 34:59Speaker 2: are some car dealerships you can go into and haggle.
- 35:03Speaker 2: There are some that the price is the price because
- 35:07Speaker 2: it's so rare and valuable. Tell me somebody who got
- 35:10Speaker 2: a good deal on a brand new Lamborghini. Never happened.
- 35:15Speaker 2: Not never. Not never. Just go in there and pay.
- 35:18Speaker 2: That's what doesn't make sense to me. It's just not
- 35:21Speaker 2: how it works. It's how it's ever worked. I don't
- 35:22Speaker 2: know what they're doing from the cowboy side.
- 35:24Speaker 4: He is.
- 35:25Speaker 1: I've been thinking about this He is probably the greatest
- 35:32Speaker 1: non-terp defensive player in the history of the Dallas Cowboys.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Only that one terp I can think of. DeMarcus Ware
- 35:42Speaker 1: is maybe in the conversation also, right?
- 35:44Speaker 4: But if we're not talking about Randy White, I can't
- 35:46Speaker 4: think of a Cowboy. Oh, Diaz Adams.
- 35:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:51Speaker 4: But you can make an argument.
- 35:53Speaker 1: Given the thing that gets lost because they don't ask
- 35:56Speaker 1: him to do it anymore is that Michael Parsons would
- 35:59Speaker 1: be maybe the best off-ball linebacker too, right? Because the
- 36:04Speaker 1: plan was not for him to be an edge rusher
- 36:06Speaker 1: when he got there. Otherwise, he does not go number
- 36:08Speaker 1: 12 or whatever it was in the draft.
- 36:10Speaker 4: Then they're like, oh, he could do that too? Okay, cool.
- 36:13Speaker 4: He's that guy. There's no way around it. I can't believe...
- 36:19Speaker 4: I could understand why it might take you a while
- 36:21Speaker 4: to come to a consensus with C.D. Lamb.
- 36:23Speaker 1: I could understand how it is that you don't want
- 36:25Speaker 1: to have to make yourself pay Dak Prescott all that money.
- 36:27Speaker 4: You should be excited about giving that money to Michael Parsons.
- 36:30Speaker 2: You can't wait. Like, there's no way that it helps you. So, like,
- 36:34Speaker 2: if you pay him sooner, the price is lower. If
- 36:37Speaker 2: you pay him sooner, your cap hit is lower. If
- 36:40Speaker 2: you pay him sooner, then you have him extended through
- 36:44Speaker 2: the period where he is most impactful. You pay him sooner,
- 36:48Speaker 2: you have money to negotiate, to add other people to
- 36:51Speaker 2: this roster. And when there are players, like there are
- 36:54Speaker 2: some deals that are easy to do. And I don't
- 36:57Speaker 2: understand why you want to expend so much of this capital. Like,
- 37:01Speaker 2: I don't know. And the fact that David Mugeta is a,
- 37:05Speaker 2: like a long time, really successful, like one of the
- 37:08Speaker 2: best agents in football. The fact that he is the
- 37:11Speaker 2: agent makes it even easier. You ain't pulling the fast
- 37:15Speaker 2: one on him, man. He know the game. And he also, like,
- 37:18Speaker 2: he ain't trying to do nothing tricky. I don't know
- 37:19Speaker 2: what he's asking for, but he ain't trying to make
- 37:22Speaker 2: a name for himself. You know what the deal is.
- 37:25Speaker 2: Sign the deal.
- 37:26Speaker 4: And they got a good team. Yeah. I think it is...
- 37:30Speaker 4: Because they.
- 37:31Speaker 1: Are such an understandable object of ridicule, it's easy to
- 37:37Speaker 1: lose sight of the fact they won.
- 37:38Speaker 4: Seven games last year with a very hurt Dak Prescott, right? Now,
- 37:42Speaker 4: they gave up. Holy shit. Do you know how many
- 37:46Speaker 4: points they gave up last year?
- 37:47Speaker 1: Yeah, a lot.
- 37:48Speaker 4: Do you know the exact number?
- 37:50Speaker 2: I don't. 468.
- 37:51Speaker 4: To put this in context, the Eagles.
- 38:00Speaker 4: Scored 463 that's not right right so it was like
- 38:03Speaker 4: the eagles gave.
- 38:04Speaker 1: Up 303 the cowboys gave up 468 even better context
- 38:07Speaker 1: the giants gave up 450 oh i mean that's awful
- 38:08Speaker 1: awful awful.
- 38:25Speaker 4: Awful, but they still have a chance to be pretty good.
- 38:28Speaker 1: My expectation is that this Washington thing is not going to.
- 38:32Speaker 4: Go for people the way that they expect it to.
- 38:34Speaker 1: I think I always, my assumption with young quarterback in
- 38:40Speaker 1: year two is not, and it's only up from here.
- 38:42Speaker 1: That's People tend to catch on to whatever it is
- 38:48Speaker 1: Cliff has been doing. You know, you got that situation. Oh,
- 38:51Speaker 1: and they ain't giving Terry McLaurin his money, which is
- 38:53Speaker 1: another confusing one. But all right, whatever y'all think, right?
- 38:58Speaker 1: The Cowboys got a good chance to be second in
- 39:00Speaker 1: that division, which can be a Super Bowl contender, to
- 39:03Speaker 1: be honest.
- 39:04Speaker 4: You know, you get the right draw. You can make
- 39:06Speaker 4: this happen. This the guy you just got to get
- 39:08Speaker 4: a bread to, man.
- 39:10Speaker 1: But Jerry, my thing with Jerry now is, And I've
- 39:13Speaker 1: long thought that Jerry gets a bit of a bad rap.
- 39:15Speaker 1: I think Jerry's a better football man than he has
- 39:17Speaker 1: gotten credit for. I met Jerry in person for the
- 39:21Speaker 1: first time.
- 39:21Speaker 4: In fact, you were with me. I believe it was 2022.
- 39:23Speaker 1: We did a Bob Costas show back on the record
- 39:26Speaker 1: with Bob Costas.
- 39:27Speaker 4: And Jerry was there.
- 39:28Speaker 1: And when you're around Jerry, you can see oh this
- 39:30Speaker 1: is how this is how he traffics this is why
- 39:32Speaker 1: he gets where he is he feels old now and
- 39:38Speaker 1: he never felt old before but he feels old but
- 39:41Speaker 1: is still always at the microphone I love.
- 39:46Speaker 4: Loves it.
- 39:47Speaker 1: But every day you get a whole, and look, it's
- 39:50Speaker 1: tough for cats getting older, man. Every day they know
- 39:52Speaker 1: that they not as sharp as they was the day before,
- 39:54Speaker 1: you know, but Jerry is on the mic every day
- 39:57Speaker 1: and we're seeing it.
- 39:59Speaker 4: We're seeing it and it is not helpful.
- 40:02Speaker 2: And he also like still has the power and influence
- 40:06Speaker 2: that he had before. So I suspect that he allow,
- 40:10Speaker 2: I hope, I mean, I've heard to be fair that,
- 40:14Speaker 2: Some of the football scouting and those decisions are delegated
- 40:18Speaker 2: to younger, more qualified people. Not necessarily more qualified, more
- 40:23Speaker 2: active people. And he still wants to make these bigger
- 40:25Speaker 2: decisions and talk about these bigger decisions, which makes everyone
- 40:29Speaker 2: else's job and life more difficult. But that's the situation.
- 40:32Speaker 2: I don't know any way around it. You started to
- 40:34Speaker 2: go to the Terry McLaurin thing. And this was the
- 40:38Speaker 2: big sticking point for me on Terry McLaurin is, I
- 40:42Speaker 2: understand the position of the commanders where they're like, all right, well,
- 40:48Speaker 2: you ain't better than Justin Jefferson, so we can't pay you.
- 40:51Speaker 2: You're 30 and receivers go down at that point, so
- 40:54Speaker 2: we can't pay you. I get it logically. But you
- 40:58Speaker 2: know who you can't get? Justin Jefferson. You know who
- 41:01Speaker 2: else you can't get? Some receiver under 30. This is
- 41:04Speaker 2: the situation you're in and you believe yourself to be
- 41:08Speaker 2: in some sort of championship window. You have a quarterback
- 41:12Speaker 2: who specializes in throwing the deep ball. You know who
- 41:14Speaker 2: caught most of those? Terry McLaurin. Like, it's about your options.
- 41:19Speaker 2: You don't have any other options unless you want to
- 41:22Speaker 2: take a step back this year, which they may have
- 41:25Speaker 2: to anyway because, I mean, it's just hard in football.
- 41:28Speaker 2: And a lot of their one-score wins, they had a
- 41:30Speaker 2: Hail Mary win. They were like 100% on fourth down
- 41:33Speaker 2: conversions last year. Like, that stuff could change. But you certainly–
- 41:37Speaker 2: not going to be any better without him. So I
- 41:39Speaker 2: really don't get the rationale, especially while you have a
- 41:41Speaker 2: quarterback who's playing MVP-level football for rookie money.
- 41:45Speaker 1: A young guy, man. Like, again, I'm telling you, it's
- 41:48Speaker 1: ups and downs with that. You still need to keep
- 41:50Speaker 1: everything else around the young guy cracking. You still need everything. Man,
- 41:55Speaker 1: you live there, man. I can only imagine how.
- 41:58Speaker 4: Excited they are.
- 41:59Speaker 1: They team good, and it look like they might start
- 42:02Speaker 1: being racist again. Boy, I can't imagine how gassed up
- 42:06Speaker 1: people are down there. For those of you who ain't
- 42:08Speaker 1: seen this, Trump trying to get them to go back
- 42:10Speaker 1: to calling the team the R's.
- 42:13Speaker 4: He wants to get back there.
- 42:14Speaker 2: When you talk about the Washington football team could go
- 42:18Speaker 2: back to being racist, you got to be specific. Because
- 42:21Speaker 2: if they go back to their true racist roots- they're
- 42:24Speaker 2: going to be looking for a quarterback again.
- 42:25Speaker 4: That is true.
- 42:26Speaker 2: That is true. That is true.
- 42:27Speaker 4: That is true.
- 42:28Speaker 1: Yo, the Rs are my greatest example of every time
- 42:31Speaker 1: somebody like the fans won't tolerate progress, what you think
- 42:34Speaker 1: they was giving back that Doug Williams, you, you, you, you,
- 42:37Speaker 1: Doug Williams still ain't paying for nothing around those parts.
- 42:39Speaker 1: You think, you think they was like, nah, I'd rather the,
- 42:43Speaker 1: the way that Dallas fans would rather not win than
- 42:45Speaker 1: do it without me. They would rather lose a look
- 42:48Speaker 1: at Dodgers than win with Anthony Davis.
- 42:51Speaker 4: That is not how they treated that Doug Williams super.
- 42:54Speaker 2: Love it. Love that Doug Williams Super Bowl. Even though
- 42:58Speaker 2: there's a last team in pro football to have black
- 43:01Speaker 2: people on it. Like that Doug Williams Super Bowl.
- 43:03Speaker 1: Dude, I told you, man, you go look at what
- 43:06Speaker 1: their record was before Joe Gibbs.
- 43:08Speaker 4: They the Cardinals.
- 43:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 43:10Speaker 4: Like they, they just, they were just like, nah, we'd
- 43:12Speaker 4: rather be sorry.
- 43:13Speaker 2: The Cardinals. Like, I don't know when it was. It
- 43:16Speaker 2: was a few, like 10 years ago or so or
- 43:19Speaker 2: something like that where I realized that how historic a
- 43:22Speaker 2: franchise the Cardinals are. They're the oldest. Right. And we
- 43:27Speaker 2: don't think of them that way because they don't got
- 43:30Speaker 2: no glory days. It's crazy. Like, the Cardinals feel like
- 43:34Speaker 2: an expansion team from the 90s a little bit. But
- 43:36Speaker 2: the Cardinals... been to multiple cities and they've been around
- 43:40Speaker 2: since this shit started and they just ain't had nothing
- 43:42Speaker 2: that we can look to and be like, oh, remember
- 43:44Speaker 2: when they had that dynasty?
- 43:45Speaker 4: Well, because think about it, right?
- 43:46Speaker 1: The Bears, you can talk about the dick of years,
- 43:49Speaker 1: but the Bears, honestly, since like the 1940s, have been sorry.
- 43:54Speaker 2: Right?
- 43:54Speaker 1: They won a championship, I want to say, in 1963.
- 43:57Speaker 1: They won the one in 1985. Otherwise they've been cheats,
- 44:00Speaker 1: but they're the bears. We can point at least to
- 44:02Speaker 1: those points.
- 44:02Speaker 4: We got some names.
- 44:03Speaker 1: The Cardinals ain't got no coach that we think like,
- 44:06Speaker 1: you know, Bruce Arians and like the things they've done,
- 44:08Speaker 1: but you're right. They ain't had no run, but I
- 44:10Speaker 1: believe that of the active franchises, I believe.
- 44:13Speaker 4: They are the oldest and we don't, you're right. We
- 44:16Speaker 4: don't think of them that way at all.
- 44:20Speaker 2: And it's like those old franchises, like their logos mean something.
- 44:24Speaker 2: And it like, it resonates for you. Like that bird
- 44:27Speaker 2: don't do nothing for me, man. That little bird head. Like,
- 44:31Speaker 2: I feel like that, like the bear. See, like, I
- 44:34Speaker 2: see that. I, that Packers emblem. I see that. I'm like, football.
- 44:40Speaker 2: I see that Cardinals bird. I'm like, okay.
- 44:42Speaker 1: Cool somebody looks like a three and a half point
- 44:46Speaker 1: uh underdog like that is.
- 44:48Speaker 2: The steelers man i see that little steelers thing i
- 44:51Speaker 2: think about yeah yo.
- 44:53Speaker 1: And the steelers by the way are another team that
- 44:55Speaker 1: was sorry until they weren't they were the worst team
- 44:58Speaker 1: in the league until the 70s came and they were
- 45:01Speaker 1: like okay got two ideas i hear those black people
- 45:04Speaker 1: colleges have good players and um shall we say, the training.
- 45:11Speaker 4: The prayers, and the vitamins.
- 45:13Speaker 1: They got all the training, the prayers, and the vitamins,
- 45:17Speaker 1: and then they was unreal. But if you took that
- 45:19Speaker 1: six-year period out where they won those four Super Bowls, ooh,
- 45:23Speaker 1: that's another one that's.
- 45:25Speaker 4: A shaky situation.
- 45:27Speaker 2: Yeah, but I mean, since then, though. Yes.
- 45:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 45:29Speaker 2: They had, but yeah, that's like the history of it.
- 45:32Speaker 2: And like the, I mean, the Cowboys are kind of
- 45:34Speaker 2: the ultimate example, but they've had some good runs. The
- 45:36Speaker 2: fair thing about the Cowboys, they haven't won championship, but
- 45:38Speaker 2: they had some like meaningful runs since then, including Romo
- 45:43Speaker 2: to Dak.
- 45:44Speaker 4: Oh yeah.
- 45:44Speaker 1: I mean the whole Tom Landry era was like amazing.
- 45:48Speaker 1: He was only sorry for like a couple of years.
- 45:51Speaker 1: And then, you know, the Jerry like.
- 45:53Speaker 4: Got him out of here.
- 45:54Speaker 1: But with the Steelers, the reason I bring that up
- 45:56Speaker 1: and I think often gets lost is Tomlin has the line,
- 45:59Speaker 1: the standard is the standard, right? And it is caught
- 46:01Speaker 1: because Mike Tomlin is like the Jay-Z of football, right?
- 46:05Speaker 4: He got that bar for you that you'll remember.
- 46:08Speaker 1: But take away the four championships in six years. They're
- 46:14Speaker 1: just like everybody else when it comes to Super Bowls, right?
- 46:18Speaker 1: They have won two Super Bowls since 1979.
- 46:20Speaker 4: Two. So, I mean....
- 46:24Speaker 2: To be fair, though, who are you talking about that
- 46:28Speaker 2: does not? Because I know how we got here, so
- 46:32Speaker 2: it doesn't sound crazy, but in isolation, take away the
- 46:35Speaker 2: four Super Bowls in six years.
- 46:38Speaker 4: It does.
- 46:38Speaker 1: But given that that was now 50 years ago, I
- 46:42Speaker 1: think we could look at this a little bit. The
- 46:43Speaker 1: argument that, yes, Tomlin has not won a playoff game
- 46:48Speaker 1: since the Obama administration, which feels somewhat poetic, but neither
- 46:52Speaker 1: here nor there, right? I understand the criticism of them
- 46:55Speaker 1: not winning those playoff games, right? It's kind of a
- 46:58Speaker 1: Marvin Lewis sort of argument. I get where people come.
- 47:01Speaker 4: From on that. The idea that since they're the Steelers,
- 47:04Speaker 4: they're supposed to be competing.
- 47:05Speaker 1: For Super Bowls every year, that is not supported by
- 47:09Speaker 1: the last 45 years of history.
- 47:11Speaker 2: It's not.
- 47:12Speaker 4: They're like everybody else. If they get to it, it'll
- 47:14Speaker 4: be great.
- 47:14Speaker 1: The 49ers in that time period have been to, I
- 47:17Speaker 1: want to say, seven Super Bowls where the Steelers have
- 47:22Speaker 1: been there four.
- 47:25Speaker 4: Like, it's not the same. It's just not.
- 47:28Speaker 1: Nobody talks about the 49ers like, well, you ain't won
- 47:30Speaker 1: no Super Bowls in this time.
- 47:31Speaker 4: 49ers ain't won no Super Bowl since 1994.
- 47:34Speaker 1: Right.
- 47:35Speaker 4: And nobody's like, the standard is the standard.
- 47:38Speaker 2: They've been close. That's fair. Yeah, I'm just looking around at,
- 47:43Speaker 2: I think the Dolphins are another team that I feel
- 47:47Speaker 2: like should, they had, they should be more respected, but
- 47:51Speaker 2: it doesn't feel that way. And they were like the
- 47:53Speaker 2: winningest team for a long time. And they had that
- 47:56Speaker 2: Shula run and Marino. But I'm just looking at these logos, honestly,
- 48:01Speaker 2: right now and like trying to see which ones when
- 48:04Speaker 2: I look at them, I'll be like, oh, and it
- 48:07Speaker 2: ain't the Dolphins, which is unfair to them, I guess.
- 48:10Speaker 1: No, I mean, they they went to five Super Bowls
- 48:13Speaker 1: between the 1970s and 1980s. And they got Don Shula
- 48:17Speaker 1: out of there after a winning season because the standard
- 48:20Speaker 1: was the standard. And the way that people older than
- 48:24Speaker 1: me view the Dolphins is so completely different than people
- 48:27Speaker 1: around our age view them because they were a historically
- 48:30Speaker 1: great franchise and they just been kind of booty ever since,
- 48:37Speaker 1: you know, like the Denver Broncos are a historically great
- 48:39Speaker 1: franchise that we don't think of as a historically great franchise.
- 48:43Speaker 4: For example, then, you know, well, the Raiders used to be.
- 48:48Speaker 2: How many runs do you need? Or like, how do
- 48:50Speaker 2: you determine that? Is it over multiple coaches over different eras?
- 48:56Speaker 2: over multiple quarterbacks like how do you that's a good
- 48:59Speaker 2: question because a lot of these teams they had a
- 49:03Speaker 2: really great run at a good time because i feel
- 49:05Speaker 2: like most of the teams that we think of as
- 49:07Speaker 2: these great historic teams are teams that had dynasties before
- 49:12Speaker 2: free agency or around the onset of free agency and
- 49:15Speaker 2: we're like they're just such a well-run organization like nah
- 49:19Speaker 2: they were just taking advantage of the players better than
- 49:21Speaker 2: everyone else.
- 49:21Speaker 4: Or like you have your burst to run at the
- 49:23Speaker 4: right time.
- 49:24Speaker 1: I mean, the New England Patriots non-Belichick version.
- 49:31Speaker 4: Cheeks.
- 49:32Speaker 1: Even with two Super Bowls. to appearances at least, right?
- 49:36Speaker 1: We're talking about cheeks here. Nobody, like, nobody's like North
- 49:40Speaker 1: Carolina men's basketball, right? Or Alabama football, where we just
- 49:44Speaker 1: be good for a real long time. Yeah, it may
- 49:47Speaker 1: be a little low, but then we gonna pop back
- 49:49Speaker 1: up and get a crack at it. That's not really
- 49:51Speaker 1: how the NFL works. Everybody has had, like, you know,
- 49:54Speaker 1: the Browns had their run again before other people really
- 49:58Speaker 1: got on the black people thing.
- 49:59Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying?
- 50:00Speaker 1: They had a, they had themselves a nice run. The Bengals,
- 50:04Speaker 1: you know, until this Brown took over, you know, they've been,
- 50:07Speaker 1: they had a couple of super bowls that they had
- 50:09Speaker 1: gone to. Honestly, the only team that's been like super
- 50:12Speaker 1: consistently good like that for their entire existence has been
- 50:15Speaker 1: your boys, the Baltimore Ravens.
- 50:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 50:18Speaker 2: They, I mean, what they've done has been really impressive
- 50:20Speaker 2: and amazing, but they came in. Yeah. And they didn't even,
- 50:25Speaker 2: they didn't come in in a good situation, but they
- 50:27Speaker 2: were pretty good right away. And it was that draft man.
- 50:30Speaker 2: The draft that you and I talked about. That man,
- 50:33Speaker 2: that man might have, that man, Ozzie Newsome, that man
- 50:35Speaker 2: might have, his first draft as actual general manager of
- 50:40Speaker 2: the Baltimore Ravens, that man messed around and got two
- 50:44Speaker 2: of the best players in the history of their position
- 50:46Speaker 2: and just kicked this thing off right. It ain't turned
- 50:49Speaker 2: back since.
- 50:50Speaker 1: Two guys who have an argument for being the greatest
- 50:52Speaker 1: of all time at their positions. I am about to
- 50:56Speaker 1: read off for you in order a run of Baltimore
- 51:02Speaker 1: Ravens first round picks. I am going to stop at.
- 51:05Speaker 4: The year 2006.
- 51:07Speaker 1: So this is from 1996 to 2006. It's 10 drafts
- 51:12Speaker 1: over 11 years, okay? Jonathan Ogden, Ray Lewis. Now I'm
- 51:20Speaker 1: about to hit him with the sleeper that one of
- 51:21Speaker 1: the boys be forgetting about.
- 51:23Speaker 4: Peter Boulware.
- 51:25Speaker 1: Ooh! Another super edge rusher who also could play off
- 51:30Speaker 1: the ball, right?
- 51:31Speaker 5: Mm-hmm.
- 51:31Speaker 4: Dwayne Starks.
- 51:33Speaker 2: No.
- 51:34Speaker 4: Very good. A very good player. Chris McAllister. Yeah. Jamal Lewis.
- 51:41Speaker 4: Travis Taylor. Todd Heap. Ed Reed. Terrell Suggs.
- 51:49Speaker 2: Kyle Bowler.
- 51:51Speaker 4: Mark Clayton. And Haloti Nada.
- 51:54Speaker 2: Lord.
- 51:55Speaker 1: Okay, so that's three guys who are in the Hall
- 51:58Speaker 1: of Fame right now. Two more who I think will
- 52:01Speaker 1: go in. Not I think is a no-brainer Hall of Famer.
- 52:05Speaker 1: Suggs I don't feel as enthusiastic about, but I still
- 52:07Speaker 1: think he's going to be a Hall of Famer.
- 52:08Speaker 2: He's going to get in, yeah.
- 52:11Speaker 4: Because I'm the kind of guy who would do this.
- 52:13Speaker 4: I would put Jabal Lewis in the Hall of Fame. Right?
- 52:17Speaker 4: Chris McAllister was a monster.
- 52:19Speaker 2: Yep.
- 52:20Speaker 4: That's a hell of a run of picks, old boy.
- 52:22Speaker 2: What are you talking about? I mean... The bottom of
- 52:25Speaker 2: the barrel there, like, if we cut out the complete misses,
- 52:28Speaker 2: we talk about, like, all pro-level, pro-bowl-level guys. Like, Ozzy,
- 52:35Speaker 2: he wasn't missing. I was going to say it's a
- 52:36Speaker 2: high streak, but that ain't a streak, man. It's so long.
- 52:42Speaker 4: This is what I do.
- 52:43Speaker 2: How you get that many Hall of Famers? That's insanity, man.
- 52:47Speaker 1: And it also reminds me of one of my favorite
- 52:50Speaker 1: football pictures of all time. Oh.
- 52:54Speaker 4: Jonathan Ogden, player for St. Albans. And you have to understand, guys, St.
- 53:00Speaker 1: Albans is like a place where very rich people send
- 53:03Speaker 1: their kids in D.C. Jonathan Ogden, 6'9. Okay, I'll put
- 53:08Speaker 1: it this way. You know who played offensive line for St.
- 53:12Speaker 2: Albans?
- 53:13Speaker 1: Not all of you will know this, but if you
- 53:15Speaker 1: are a viewer of the Dominique Foxworth show, Charlie Kravitz.
- 53:19Speaker 4: Played offensive line at St. Albans.
- 53:22Speaker 1: And if Charlie Kravitz had been in that picture of
- 53:24Speaker 1: Jonathan Ogden playing, he would have been the second biggest
- 53:27Speaker 1: person in that picture. I just can't believe that those
- 53:29Speaker 1: rich dorks had the nerve to have to run up
- 53:32Speaker 1: on Jonathan Ogden at any point.
- 53:34Speaker 2: The reason why that picture is so impressive is because
- 53:37Speaker 2: Jonathan is surrounded by a bunch of dudes named Charlie.
- 53:41Speaker 2: That's why it's so amazing. And Jonathan, I mean, he
- 53:44Speaker 2: was on their team, so I'm sure they didn't mind it.
- 53:46Speaker 2: But I guarantee you, There was some other private schools
- 53:49Speaker 2: in that league that was not happy about Jonathan Ogden
- 53:54Speaker 2: coming downhill on their future president.
- 53:57Speaker 1: No, brother, you had to treat that like they treated
- 53:59Speaker 1: Orlando Pace at Ohio State. We're just not even going
- 54:01Speaker 1: to put nobody over there.
- 54:02Speaker 2: Yeah, why not? We're not going to subject nobody to that.
- 54:08Speaker 1: By the way, the 1997 draft, you want to talk
- 54:10Speaker 1: about a sneaky draft, Orlando Pace, Walter.
- 54:13Speaker 4: Jones, and Tony Gonzalez in the top 13.
- 54:15Speaker 1: Hmm.
- 54:17Speaker 2: That's impressive.
- 54:18Speaker 1: With Shaw Springs, Peter Boulware, James Farrier, and my man
- 54:22Speaker 1: Warwick Dunn thrown in there.
- 54:24Speaker 2: Peter Boulware, like that name, Florida State. He was from,
- 54:28Speaker 2: he's from Baltimore too.
- 54:30Speaker 4: No, he is from, no.
- 54:31Speaker 2: I'm thinking about Darnell Dockett, the Baltimore Dunbar.
- 54:34Speaker 4: Boulware is from South Carolina.
- 54:38Speaker 2: He was a monster, man.
- 54:40Speaker 1: Yeah, but the African-Americans would not be fond of his politics,
- 54:45Speaker 1: I don't think.
- 54:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 54:47Speaker 4: Like, he run for office on it. Like, it ain't enough.
- 54:49Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying?
- 54:50Speaker 2: Getting his Herschel Walker on?
- 54:52Speaker 4: Yeah, well, hopefully not that far, but yes. Okay. Yes,
- 54:55Speaker 4: they be in the same rooms.
- 54:57Speaker 1: Y'all call them the same name.
- 55:01Speaker 2: Well, you know what? Nobody's concerned about that when he's
- 55:05Speaker 2: getting after the passer. That's right. That's right. You can
- 55:09Speaker 2: talk about all the bootstraps you want to talk about.
- 55:11Speaker 4: Show me your self-hatred, brother.
- 55:13Speaker 2: Go out here and.
- 55:15Speaker 4: Put it out there.
- 55:17Speaker 2: If you do possess any, by the way.
- 55:18Speaker 4: I'm throwing it up as a hypothetical.
- 55:20Speaker 1: The last thing I would say for people, just because
- 55:22Speaker 1: I mentioned Warwick Dunn, Warwick Dunn is like the nicest
- 55:24Speaker 1: man in the world. And Warwick Dunn is the least
- 55:27Speaker 1: assuming football player that you will ever see in person.
- 55:30Speaker 1: And I will tell you an example of this. I'm
- 55:32Speaker 1: in Vegas for the Super Bowl last year and I'm
- 55:36Speaker 1: outside of Circa, the joint down off the strip. And
- 55:41Speaker 1: I'm talking to Warwick Dunn and we say what's up
- 55:43Speaker 1: or whatever. And we get done with the conversation because
- 55:46Speaker 1: my friends walk past me. And I was like, yep,
- 55:49Speaker 1: that was Warwick Dunn. They're like, damn, that was Warwick Dunn?
- 55:52Speaker 5: Yes.
- 55:52Speaker 4: Who were these friends? Charlie Kravitz and Dominique Foxwood. Like,
- 55:56Speaker 4: because why would you think Warwick Dunn was a football player?
- 55:59Speaker 1: Nothing indicates football player about Warwick Dunn unless he's out
- 56:03Speaker 1: there playing football.
- 56:04Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Before that incident, I'd interview Warwick. I've been
- 56:08Speaker 2: around a bunch of times. But, yeah, you know, it's not, yeah,
- 56:11Speaker 2: nothing about him suggests that. And then you see his quickness, athleticism,
- 56:15Speaker 2: it changed your mind.
- 56:17Speaker 4: I be with Warwick Dunn like, damn, I'm feeling a
- 56:19Speaker 4: little tall.
- 56:21Speaker 1: Definitely not big. I never feel big, but I definitely
- 56:24Speaker 1: stand with Warwick Dunn. They gonna be like, damn, do
- 56:26Speaker 1: you hoop?
- 56:27Speaker 4: Are you his agent, perhaps?
- 56:29Speaker 2: We were at a flag football tournament last weekend, and
- 56:32Speaker 2: I ran into Vince Carter at the tournament, whose son
- 56:36Speaker 2: was there. Vince Carter is very into his kid's sports.
- 56:41Speaker 2: He's talking about all his kid's sports and how he's
- 56:43Speaker 2: doing all that stuff. And his son, I think, was
- 56:45Speaker 2: like seven or something. He was younger than my son,
- 56:47Speaker 2: so I didn't see him play. But I could only
- 56:49Speaker 2: imagine the type of athletes that Vince Carter is producing.
- 56:54Speaker 2: He walked over and he was like, yeah, he playing
- 56:56Speaker 2: flag football at like seven, eight years old. Yeah, go
- 56:59Speaker 2: ahead and get it. I don't know who's paying attention.
- 57:02Speaker 2: If you are a general manager for one of these colleges,
- 57:05Speaker 2: but I'm pretty sure you can go ahead and send
- 57:07Speaker 2: an offer over there immediately.
- 57:09Speaker 1: Like Vince Carter did not possess anything What made Michael
- 57:14Speaker 1: Jordan athleticism so crazy was the grace of it, right?
- 57:18Speaker 1: Like the idea that it's like this dude is floating.
- 57:20Speaker 1: It's like he's walking on air. Vince Carter athleticism, just
- 57:27Speaker 1: powerful explosion, like a smaller version of Dominique Wilkins that
- 57:32Speaker 1: could jump higher. Because I did that alt cast with
- 57:35Speaker 1: Vince last year. And so I got to kick it
- 57:37Speaker 1: with him a bit there. He's not a small man
- 57:40Speaker 1: by any chance, but it's not.
- 57:42Speaker 4: You don't really get it. Me and my brother, and
- 57:43Speaker 4: I told.
- 57:44Speaker 1: Vince this, me and my brother thought that Vince Carter
- 57:46Speaker 1: was 6'10.
- 57:48Speaker 4: For years just from watching him tip-dunk when he was
- 57:51Speaker 4: a freshman at Carolina. We're like, what is this?
- 57:53Speaker 1: Like, my man, I got a partner who played pickup
- 57:55Speaker 1: with him at Woolen when he was at Carolina, and
- 57:58Speaker 1: he described it only one way, humbling. Like, it was
- 58:01Speaker 1: at that point where he still thought that he had
- 58:03Speaker 1: a chance to make the hoop thing happen, and then
- 58:05Speaker 1: he'd get out there hooping with Vince. Oh, God.
- 58:08Speaker 4: Humbling, guys. Humbling.
- 58:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean... I don't know if his son possesses
- 58:14Speaker 2: the ability or any of his kids possess the ability
- 58:17Speaker 2: to shoot. But no, we're not going to find out.
- 58:20Speaker 2: What I'm saying is the difference between Vince Carter is 6'6.
- 58:24Speaker 2: So if his son is 6'3, 6'2, that's big for football.
- 58:30Speaker 2: And you know, you know what you don't need to
- 58:32Speaker 2: play football. Like it's nice if you have grace or
- 58:34Speaker 2: you have the fine motor coordination or hand out coordination
- 58:38Speaker 2: to repeat the jump shot at like a golfer. That
- 58:42Speaker 2: would be fantastic. We don't need that over here. We
- 58:45Speaker 2: don't need that over here. You got some explosive athleticism?
- 58:48Speaker 2: We're going to find a spot, man. There's a spot
- 58:51Speaker 2: for a 6'2 dude who has explosive, violent athleticism.
- 58:55Speaker 1: Brother, I'm telling you, whatever sport we out here playing,
- 58:58Speaker 1: if Vince Sun say he want to play.
- 58:59Speaker 2: He on deck.
- 59:00Speaker 4: You got a chance, right? You're going to get some reps.
- 59:03Speaker 1: You're going to have the opportunity to show us what
- 59:06Speaker 1: you can or cannot do.
- 59:07Speaker 4: We can't.
- 59:08Speaker 1: Like, it's still so crazy to me. that Virginia Tech
- 59:11Speaker 1: did not offer Steph Curry or Seth A scholarship? Hey, man,
- 59:15Speaker 1: we're going to find out. We're going to find out.
- 59:18Speaker 1: I like Seth Greenberg a lot. That's two balls that
- 59:21Speaker 1: you dropped. Every year, Seth Greenberg would be out here
- 59:24Speaker 1: talking about expanding the tournament to 96 games. You wouldn't
- 59:26Speaker 1: have had 96 teams. You wouldn't have had to do
- 59:28Speaker 1: that if you had just let... I know what people
- 59:33Speaker 1: are going to say when they hear me say this.
- 59:35Speaker 1: If you would just engage in a little nepotism, your
- 59:38Speaker 1: whole career might have gone.
- 59:40Speaker 4: And look, that's the thing about it.
- 59:41Speaker 1: I ain't think the idea of doing the Brody James
- 59:45Speaker 1: thing in the NBA, in the way that the Lakers
- 59:48Speaker 1: did it, I ain't think that was cool. But for USC,
- 59:51Speaker 1: I wouldn't have cared if he averaged half a point
- 59:53Speaker 1: a game in high school.
- 59:55Speaker 4: We'll give you a year. Yeah.
- 59:57Speaker 2: I mean, I don't even think there's a conversation to
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: be had right there. Can he walk and chew gum?
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: All right. There's something in there. Maybe we'll tap into it.
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: Maybe not, but there's something in there that's worth trying.
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: And that is Dominique Fosworth. Check him out on the
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: Dominique Fosworth show available.
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: We're all fine. Podcast a given away for free. My brother.
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: I appreciate you.
