- 0:04[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to Three Yards Perkati, a podcast covering the Miami Dolphins and the NFL.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_00]: Now, here's your host, Chris, Alf, and Simon.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_01]: My Annie has a dolphin, the greatest football team.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_01]: We've taken the ball for goal to go like no one's ever seen.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_01]: We're in the air, we're on the ground.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_01]: We're always in control.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_01]: And when you say my Annie, you're talking super focused with a My Annie doll.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_06]: We're on, this is the three yards per carry.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_06]: I'm afraid, or I tag us.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_06]: I'm in Clancy, is here.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_06]: Chris Kaufman is here.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_06]: Possibly, and apologetic.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_06]: Chris Kaufman, but we'll get to that.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_06]: We're gonna talk a little college football playoff as well.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_02]: Feed it rivers I've just seen is going back to the coals.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_03]: So very what?
- 1:04[SPEAKER_02]: The coals are signing with the lip rivers to the practice squad as a coals.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, no, it's a quarterback.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_02]: He's done having good.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_02]: The cults are bringing in potential Hall of Fame caught about Philip Rivers into their facility on Tuesday to work out with a view team joining their practice squad from Ian Rackenport, three minutes a day.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_02]: And we make one last run at it.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_02]: H44, come on.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_06]: Why not Brady?
- 1:34[SPEAKER_06]: I don't know, we can't, right?
- 1:35[SPEAKER_02]: In Brady wanted the place for the cults and we can't do it.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_04]: You've had a lot of fun, dude.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_02]: It's not like that.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_02]: Wow, 40.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_02]: I did that.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_04]: How old was Steve Dberg when he, um, when he, what are you hung it up?
- 1:50[SPEAKER_04]: 42.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_04]: 42.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_06]: Yes, Steve Dberg came, uh, playing with the dolphins at one season at age 41.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_06]: And he played one more season.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_04]: That's good.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_04]: Aaron Rodgers before you do.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_06]: But Aaron Rodgers is like, one of these physical dynamos, you know, like, maybe the, the best arm talent in the history of the sport.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_06]: What about?
- 2:11[SPEAKER_06]: Oh, bro.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_06]: Philip Rivers never struck me as be a floating time.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_04]: No, what about Wade Wade what's his name was it Wade not Wilson Wade.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, it was good.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_04]: It was Wilson.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it wasn't wasn't he absurdly old when he went and still playing.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_04]: I'm not sure.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_02]: I need to know that it was for yeah, he was the oldest.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_04]: a George Blando was a boy.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_04]: Wait, wait.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_04]: Wade Wilson, I guess, was only 39.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_02]: So he was just going to be a boy for Warren Moon, 44, Steve DeBerg, 44.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_04]: Steve DeBerg, 44.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_04]: I thought, I thought DeBerg was 44 around there.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_04]: Warren Moon, wow.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_06]: I should sound.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_06]: I should sound a lot better now.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_06]: I'm going to do this now.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_06]: Oh, DeBerg, how would Steve DeBerg now?
- 3:08[SPEAKER_02]: 70 won that go that makes me feel old.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_06]: How well how well does Steve the broke play by the way yeah if he test the very 62 How old is Bernie Cosa is Bernie Cosa 75 yet?
- 3:23[SPEAKER_02]: He must be caught.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_02]: I will not see Bernie Cosa He is oh no, he's 762
- 3:31[SPEAKER_06]: So is marino older than marino is older than Bernie Cose are now that I think about it because Bernie Cose are Marina's University of Miami after damn marino got drafted by the Dolphins.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_02]: So Yeah, 64 Jim Kelly 65.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, Jim Kelly left before Jim Kelly was the quarterback at University of Miami before Cose are so yeah, he would be older.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_02]: I'm the highestman finally so just been announced
- 4:02[SPEAKER_02]: They are Jeremiah love Fernando Mendoza, Julian Sain and Diego Pavia.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_04]: I almost kind of want Pavia to take it.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'd be too, actually.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_06]: Who do you think actually deserves it by sheer numbers it's saying, isn't it?
- 4:21[SPEAKER_02]: In terms of most valuable player.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think you can, it has to be, the van be cool back, and it has to be for that video.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's not, it's, it's, it's not literally MVP, right?
- 4:37[SPEAKER_04]: No, it's not, it, you know, so it'll probably even dose of it.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_02]: It should be parvier.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_04]: I think, I think,
- 4:43[SPEAKER_04]: I think it has to be Mendoza just because of the story that Indiana is like in addition to being a good story, it's like they literally be Ohio State in the championship there and now they're in the playoffs and so.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_04]: So I think that and you'd have to look at the difference from one year to the next with Curtis
- 5:11[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, there's, there's a lot to be said there, but, uh, I think the A.O.Povies shouldn't probably, I should get it.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_06]: But, yeah.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, he was fabulous.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_06]: And, you know, the thing about Mendoza's because some are saying compare his numbers to other quarterbacks past years and other Heisman candidates and other, other Heisman winners, it's his conference also.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_06]: And the amount of points that were beating teams by, it doesn't, it really doesn't help him get those gotty numbers that a Cam Ward had last year or a Joe Burrell met, you know.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_06]: So I think Mendoza was handicapped by that.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_06]: But by the way, I saw a meme, which I think is the greatest, one of the greatest memes recorded this year, created this year, which was, it's a picture of Signetti and Mendoza.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_06]: And it says for the first 150 years of Indiana football, they were terrible.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_06]: As soon as they could, could pay players, then figured out they should have been paying players all 150 years in a row.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_04]: They were the only school not to be doing paying players.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, they were the only school not to be paying.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_06]: They figured out that they were the only school not paying players, which is weird that Indiana, like Indiana, should be drawing from that pool that Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Michigan draw from.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_06]: and that they're shitty at football for a thousand years, just made no sense whatsoever, because even down here in Florida, like traditionally, it was always FSU, UF and Miami, right?
- 6:47[SPEAKER_06]: Look at the teams that came up, below them, to pick up all the scraps and how good they became.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_06]: UCF, USF.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_06]: You know, if I you had a little run FAU with Lane Kiff and had a little run.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_06]: So there was enough to go around.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_06]: We know how a Bama feeds all these programs right around there.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_06]: Texas the same, but I had no idea that Texas tech has the largest payroll in college football and the largest NIL pool.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_06]: I went to this happen under our noses.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_04]: Here's here's something in Diego, Pavia's favor, you know, the the kept, you know, the the kept clean for the pressure stats stuff like that, you know, when you're when you're kept clean, you know, have any pressure on you and stuff like that highest pass rating in the and college this year, when he's kept clean as Diego, Pavia, for an end on doses number two.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, but I think that I mentioned this on the discord, he and Julian Sand are actually kind of a, I didn't realize it was as exclusive of a club as, as it was, um, but, you know, the FBS college players, college quarterbacks who finished the year with 125 or above pass rating, like NFL style pass rating.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_04]: It's really not that common, um, believe it or not, and, uh, and, uh, and, uh,
- 8:07[SPEAKER_04]: The ones that do like, I mean, because we're talking about what like 800 qualifying quarterbacks, but the top like, you know, 20 or whatever 15 or whatever that I think it's like 16 guys or 16 seasons that qualify like all of them are top picks like almost all of them are like, you know, top of the first round type of
- 8:29[SPEAKER_04]: type of picks.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_04]: So it's actually like if you're looking for some kind of what the NFL does to, you know, we down or to, uh, screen through all 800 or whatever quarterbacks and stuff like that, it really does come back to that, that good old fashion pass rating sometimes.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_04]: Um, these guys, these guys with the 125 plus, you know, there's, there's very few of them and, uh, and they, they do end up being really, uh, really hydrapics.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, I thought that watching those games on Saturday, I came away kind of impressed.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_06]: Like, that's as good as you can look in a 13 to 10 victory for Fernando Mendoza.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_06]: And I thought Tyson's and looked awful against Georgia.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_06]: Now it is Georgia, but you beat them once already that you were bad in a neutral field.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_02]: I think part of the problem with Tyson's and has been that the offensive line isn't very good.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_02]: They lost Jam Miller, so the running game, you know, they're just, they're running areas at working.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_02]: There's no trust in Ryan Williams because his hands are so bad, it's such a bad season.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_02]: So they literally have to rely on Jeremy Bernard, they were rolling safety over the top on Bernard.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_02]: I mean,
- 9:37[SPEAKER_02]: he didn't play very well but he also is just getting absolutely no help and I think you know much like a lot of court of acts in the NFL you need certain things to go your way for it to work properly and because of his size I think when you're struggling to have to hold up in past protection you know protest been banged up Parker Brales was a good sentence been banged up that really struggling on the right side
- 10:00[SPEAKER_02]: And he had no time at all in the pocket whatsoever, and I just thought that was a huge issue in terms of in terms of it.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_02]: And look, I'll be amazed if he comes out.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_02]: He or she will go back and rightly so.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_02]: I think you know, the inexperienced in terms of the number of starts.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_02]: He's got nothing to, you know,
- 10:20[SPEAKER_02]: all you can do is go back and help you stop because they'll reload, they've got young freshmen coming through different positions and you know, it's Alabama, you know, it's going to be good players to play with, Bernard will be gone, but you know, hopefully Ryan Williams can overcome the yips and they can, you know, get back and get some good players back and, you know, if he was at, I don't know.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_02]: Middle Tennessee State, or I probably bigger than that, New Mexico, or something like that.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_02]: Arizona, you might think, well, maybe, but he's going to be surrounded by stars, you know?
- 10:47[SPEAKER_04]: So he's got a safe spot to return to and lots of money.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_04]: And, you know, these court, these NIL deals are, they're looking at literally unless you are picked in the first round.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_04]: or, you know, top of the second round, these NIL deals give them more money in one year than the entire guarantee portion of their four year contract.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_04]: If they, if they were to go on the bottom of the second round or the third round or something like that.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_02]: Because I want to guys that gonna make money this year and they hop into the pool.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_02]: We saw Sam Levitt in the pool, so, but, you know, I would, I mean, we don't know,
- 11:29[SPEAKER_02]: I think indications are that he's going to go back, but you look at, you know, Archbiting's always going to stay at Texas, but Drew messed to make it a kid at North Texas is going to go into the port.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to make himself a significant... Oh, they're going to close coach.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, exactly.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_02]: Byron Brown, who's at South Florida, might do.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_02]: And Mars O'Readyrup will stay at Texas then.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_02]: But Darren Mints will be fascinating.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he's the first round looking caught up at the Duke, I know they're just on the ACC, but, you know, he's going to get...
- 11:56[SPEAKER_02]: You know, big deals to go elsewhere.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_02]: Josh Hoover at TCU is a really good quarterback.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_02]: He, you know, eight in Charles at Michigan State.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_02]: You know, there's going to be opportunities.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, there's going to be opportunities for some of these quarterbacks to, you know, maybe even John Mateo.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_02]: It hasn't worked.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, another, another playoff.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, he might get, I think he should go.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_04]: I think he should go back.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_04]: It's just a question like, Kenny, Kenny State, Oklahoma, if he goes back.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like, I think it's been the jumpship to another.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_06]: And there's going to be, and there's going to be a lot of dollars out there and Miami is once again confirmed because look after two freshman quarterbacks that they like Luke Nichol and Darian Coleman, but neither one is going to be ready for next year like both of those guys are 2027 guys
- 12:40[SPEAKER_06]: So Miami essentially has no quarterback for 2026 so I could see sellers but I could also Sam Levitt makes a lot of sense there yeah and it makes up and and as it was explained today and I was listening to the radio and I was like man that makes a lot of sense Carson Beck got paid $4 million a nail right Miami is getting $4 million to play in the playoff if they advance they get another $2 million good investment good ROI already right
- 13:06[SPEAKER_04]: So that's like a sand that four million dollars amounts to more than the guaranteed portion of an entire rookie contract for anybody unless you're like top half for the second round or better.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_04]: And so if you and there are a lot of those quarterbacks that are qualifying for that kind of an ideal deal in college because it's a wide landscape right so.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_04]: You know, not that many quarterbacks are going to go and then, you know, that portion of the NFL draft if you think about it.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_04]: So, so it is it is totally is very interesting.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_04]: I just think with Tyson's and, you know, I just couldn't help but feel like we're, you know, the guy's the first year starter and it was like, I don't know, five real games and and people are like, you know, he's QB one and it's just like,
- 13:54[SPEAKER_04]: we might need to see a little bit more than that.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_04]: The guy has the build of a kicker, you know, and he's, you know, the consistency started to go downhill and now the draft stock is going downhill.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_04]: And no, that's not all on his fault.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_04]: The Georgia game is not, I mean, he's getting, he's going to, and indicate it would that offense fly, but, and then the receiver issues as well.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_04]: But I think that, you know, that's why it's,
- 14:24[SPEAKER_04]: Sometimes he just got to be as patient as you're allowed to be with with these guys and sometimes you're not allowed to be patient because we see a guy like Cole Peyton that we talked about a weekend, North Dakota State, you know, first year starter, right?
- 14:38[SPEAKER_04]: He's not going to get another chance.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_04]: He can't go back.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_04]: He's not allowed.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_04]: And so, you know, you can't, you're not allowed to be patient with him.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_04]: So you're going to have to
- 14:49[SPEAKER_04]: make a snap decision with not a lot of information on a guy like him.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_04]: And then how do you consider that, you know, he just lost at weekend, massive, massive disappointment.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_04]: One of the biggest FCS, you know, disappointments, I think, in years, losing in the first round first game of the
- 15:15[SPEAKER_02]: So, I didn't feel it, because this oldest kid is almost the same age as Riley Leonard.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_06]: And Riley Leonard, by the way, did her knee in practice and is not available for this week.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_06]: So, when they snap the ball on Sunday, the coach will have nobody back there to get the snap.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_06]: Like, who is the quarterback?
- 15:36[SPEAKER_06]: Anthony Richardson is still on IR and not ready to come off.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_06]: Like they literally have no quarterback, right?
- 15:41[SPEAKER_06]: Like there's nobody there.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_04]: That almost happened in this jet-stopfam scheme that we're literally going to talk about.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_04]: But yeah, we're going to get to it.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_06]: We're almost done with the first half of the show.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_06]: And I promise you, we will talk dolphins.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_06]: We'll be dolphins intensive on the second half of the show.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_06]: But I wanted to finish up here with the CFP.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_06]: I'll start with Simon.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_06]: Simon, any issues with?
- 16:04[SPEAKER_06]: how this all came about and my issue is you're not getting the best 12 teams in the country and eventually a group of 5 team better win one of these first wrong games because if not you're just wasting our time year in and year out with this nonsense but what did you take of the whole process which wasn't good.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_02]: The process is ridiculous, I mean I've got so many thoughts and actually the kind of the whole Jimmy Sexton ESPNification of the whole being in terms of how college game day and ESPN was you to sort of try and manipulate it as a wrong word but try and cruise it around some of the the fundamentals about who should be and who should be being because they also shared that some of the on air talent showed the same agent as some of the coach all that sort of stuff I found
- 16:53[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I think there probably should be, uh, and I think this is what they're going to have to do, because whilst as much as the financial and visual reward for having James Madison or Kennis or Stay or whoever in the playoff is great on that level, if they're just going to get coming and get spanked by, you know, Oklahoma, Texas, and whoever, like, by 60, that, that benefits nobody.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_02]: It just makes a mockery the whole thing.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_02]: It's not good for the, uh,
- 17:20[SPEAKER_02]: you know, the FBS is not good for the playoff.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_02]: It's not good for college football generally.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_02]: And it's not good for those kids who've had an amazing season, but they're abiding memory is going to be getting spanked by 70 by, to take say an M. So to me, I think there's got to be a kind of a group of five or an FBS kind of, not an FBS, a group of five playoff in many
- 17:46[SPEAKER_02]: takes away from the fact that some teams have a great season and would argue that they deserve to be in the playoffs and I get that.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_02]: But I don't think the James Madison's head coach necessarily wants to, you know, get spanked by 40, 50, 60 on national television and just become a kind of a meme and a mockery.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_02]: And you might get an apparition state being Michigan, very, very, very occasionally.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_02]: But the reality is that's almost certainly not going to happen.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_02]: And I just think he's a detriment to the sport and I don't think anybody wins on that level.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, and you had to Lane's head coach come out and say we can't beat any of these teams.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, like you have a coach in the playoffs telling everybody we can't win like you know like what are we doing you know Chris your thoughts on this whole thing it was it was weird
- 18:35[SPEAKER_06]: the whole way through some of the reporters, and I'm looking at you, Heather Denich reported a lot of things for an entire month that ended up being proven completely false.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_06]: You had ESPN going to bat lobbying for SEC teams, having the SEC commissioner come on for an entire segment,
- 18:57[SPEAKER_06]: to argue for eight SEC teams in the playoffs, like, come on and who has the contract for the SEC, ABC and ESPN, like it's just an awful process all the way through your thoughts, Chris, before we go to break.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_04]: My general thought is that if we, you know, college football as as we knew it is is over, you know, and and this is I'm talking about the college football that we knew for decades and decades, you know how this work.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_04]: It is over and we're in this really messy transition period where we don't know what this is going to look like in five years and and so you know this is all part of this is all part of that because we now have this situation where you know look how many teams are dropping out of bowl games.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_04]: like just just all bold games all together and it's almost like NAL has finally, you know, has finally killed the magic jack car car bowl or something like that, you know, like the the BS kind of the
- 20:06[SPEAKER_04]: full slate.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_04]: I think that all of that has killed it because business has entered the chat in a big way.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_04]: On now it's blood into all sides of it and now into the players and the players are ready to get on with their business as soon as their season is quote unquote done.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_04]: And so you know that's the they're heading into the transfer portal they're getting it all the money is lining up to make these things happen quickly and as quickly as possible and what it's doing is it's reshaping the postseason and it's going to be so different now the bowls are going to die right you know ball games are going to die.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_04]: It's going to be all about the playoffs and it's going to be a lot like the NFL where nothing matters unless you're competing for a championship.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_04]: You know, if you're in the playoffs and competing for a championship, which in some ways is kind of sad.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_04]: You know, because I think that that's not necessarily what college football was, you know, that for decades and decades, but it's a reality and it's just a reality that comes with the change and so I'm looking at all this stuff and I'm just like gosh, that's messy gosh, that's ugly that that's.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_04]: that doesn't make any sense, that's counter-intuitive.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm just looking at it as like, everybody trying to make the best of kind of like this mini apocalypse that's happening in college football as it grows into what eventually it will be.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_04]: And I don't even know what it will be.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_06]: I think the future, and I'll let you get the last word here, so I think the future is going to be made for TV events, so I think you're going to see two things.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_06]: You're going to see the the college football playoff expand the 16 teams.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_06]: I think you're going to see a group of five tournament and they're just going to overload you with football.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_06]: They're gonna have two tournaments like they're gonna have a top 16 and then the rest of the top 25 will have a second every tournament Like an NIT tournament and they're gonna crown two champions and nobody everybody's gonna care about the the first champion But that second champion is gonna get you maybe 30 million eyeballs over eight games and that's gonna be good enough So that's the future.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_06]: They made a TV show out of bogus rate rankings for an entire month
- 22:44[SPEAKER_02]: You also know there's going to be some old white crinkly form a family of a share crop or family member of the NCAA who's just sitting there going, well these dudes are getting paid money now there.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_02]: We can run them into the ground.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_02]: Why did love today was the unbelievable
- 23:02[SPEAKER_02]: without irony, job the director of athletics in Notre Dame Pete, but that quid did in trying to spin how disgraceful the whole situation was and re-thrate that they wouldn't be paying in the pop-tarts bowl.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_02]: And then when he said his piece, he just said nothing against pop-tarts.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_02]: Which I thought was absolutely nice to have.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_02]: It's made me think maybe it was an hour or two till maybe he's just hearing the whole thing just to sit out.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_06]: Can you imagine if the if the if the the Dean or the the trustees call the ADN is as you ask hold.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_06]: Don't you know we have a sponsorship with pop-tarts.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_02]: I wouldn't want to play in the pod town hall.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_02]: It's really cool.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_02]: I was like pink.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_02]: That's the best one to be.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_06]: The trophy is literally a 200 pound pop-tart top top man's running around.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_06]: It goes viral every year like like seriously You win the nanny and they're giving you this this gotty silver Goldie thing like what are you gonna do with that?
- 24:08[SPEAKER_06]: Like you just give that to yeah you give that to the AD the AD puts in a trophy case and it's forgotten for the rest of the time But if they give you a 200 pound pop-tart
- 24:18[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I didn't have a lot of computers, but yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, all right enough cards football.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_06]: We're going to talk dolphins on the other side of the break, but first these words And we're back, all right No sponsor so far today.

- 25:33[SPEAKER_06]: It might be the first
- 25:39[SPEAKER_06]: The first great granddad maybe as well.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_06]: Doesn't he have?
- 25:43[SPEAKER_06]: Well, how many kids does he have?
- 25:44[SPEAKER_06]: Is it 9 or 11?
- 25:45[SPEAKER_04]: Well, I mean, is is oldest is as old as hot Riley Leonard.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_04]: That's when that's what mean a kindness just said.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, we're stuck on that.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_02]: So there was kids.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_02]: The greatest quote I have ever seen was that Philip Rivers his wife's womb should be in the whole of the family.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_02]: and that so his eldest daughter Halley was born in 2002.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_02]: So that would make her up to 23.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_02]: They got 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_02]: And kids, Jesus, he treated that woman like a clown car.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_06]: You imagine if you're feeling bravers you're sitting around and and your wife's you know his wife is telling him Did you cut the grass this week now?
- 26:30[SPEAKER_06]: No, I didn't do it.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_06]: Well take out the garbage and he's like, you know fucking I'm going back to the NFL No, he's he's learned the art of delegation.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_04]: He's got ten kids to delegate to
- 26:41[SPEAKER_02]: There's 21 years between youngest and oldest, but also how quickly did they get back on it?
- 26:46[SPEAKER_02]: Grace was born in 2007, Gano was born in 2008, then Sarah was born in 2010.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_02]: Pete was born in 2011, gifted Gano, a break for Christ's peak.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_02]: I was born in TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch TV, watch
- 27:05[SPEAKER_02]: Right, we don't think we can shank you, right?
- 27:09[SPEAKER_06]: Dolphins this game man.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_06]: What a start.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_06]: Man, did this thing work out for me or what?
- 27:15[SPEAKER_06]: I had to go to a wedding.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_06]: All right.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_06]: So I was half watching the game and half getting dressed to walk out of the door.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_06]: Walk out the door.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_06]: I don't like when the last thing I need here is some stupid 7 to 6 score at half time.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_06]: And now I'm checking with Simon and now I'm checking with Chris and I'm checking the discord to see what's going on.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_06]: That's the last thing I wanted to do.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_06]: But no, touch time, touch time, touch time 21, nothing.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_06]: Tyrod Taylor's hurt.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_06]: Good.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_06]: I could walk away.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_06]: And the next thing I know is I check my phone in there's 24 10 and I'm like what kind of stupid shit happened for this game to only be 24 10 But then I saw them score the touchdown.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_06]: I'm like, okay, so all as well and there was something evidently called Brady Cooper or Brady what the hell Who's his next look?
- 28:03[SPEAKER_06]: Brady cook throwing passes in this game some yeah some some slapping big arm though You know, I'm sorry He was trying to lead the bird and I thought it was cargo core
- 28:14[SPEAKER_06]: and my god that the the Chris nailed this by the way 80 Mitchell my god yeah which one showed up which one showed up yesterday?
- 28:24[SPEAKER_06]: yeah the bad one the bad one show 80 you're at an eye yeah but hey man the jets do have the best special teams in football right now yeah four punt return touchdowns this season four
- 28:38[SPEAKER_06]: Stop planning to them.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_02]: Chris Banger is an unbelieveable Joe there on me.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_06]: So Simon, I guess we'll start there.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_06]: The start of this game, the scripted start of this game, just, you know, when the coin toss asks for the balls, take it right down the field score, score again, turn over, score again, game over.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_02]: right?
- 28:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I don't think we have enough time for all the points I'd like to make about this and this team and I should have made a list a little populist, but like maybe not you quite so much, Alfa's Chris and I don't think but like Chris and I have certainly been through the ringing this year in terms of knowing that the team was going to be shit, they were shit, and then
- 29:19[SPEAKER_02]: You thought, OK, we're going to be like picking really high.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_02]: And then, all of a sudden, we started winning.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_02]: And that was really annoying, because you moved yourself into the teens and further and further away from getting elite players of the few that are on the draft.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_02]: But now, all of a sudden, you know that you're going to be picking the teens anyway.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_02]: So it's kind of, you just want what you're going to do.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_02]: You're just going to deal with it and get on with it.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_02]: And now, yes, there was an awful lot of fun.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_02]: And what I think the most interesting thing in many regards is that Mike Rodenio was being fun, and he's finding it fun again.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_02]: He feel like he's got his mojo back a little bit.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the quality is that he's taken all this time to find this kind of come to Jesus moment.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_02]: For a guy that was, you know, his career has been predicated on being a run game coordinator and knowing all about the run.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_02]: Why is it taking this long to some of the, you know, find the run game, keys.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_02]: but everything just looks so smooth and so beautifully drawn up and the plate designs were sexy and they're also like the leveraging and the angles of the blocks and all of those things were like, you know, every single leverage point, every single climb, every single block on the move, you know, watching guys like Cole Strange bring their hips through contact her and their hips so looking at Aaron Brueh who Brandon Thorne and Duke, many where the described as, you know,
- 30:35[SPEAKER_02]: just fantastic, a guy's blocking their arse off in Nick Westbrook, a key in a blocking on the outside, dull-sits leaf.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he's, Craig, dull-sits knocking people on their arse 10 and 15, yeah.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_02]: I know Chris doesn't give a fuck about dull-sits.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, so all of that in the wrong game was just so sexy and so exciting.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_02]: And he got to the point where I was like, in the discord game, guys.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe we should just like maybe we're going to go into the lab in the off season and just caught this unbelievable kind of just power and gain kind of a triple option wishbone kind of never throw it draft Jeremiah love like literally just
- 31:12[SPEAKER_02]: completely redesigned football in terms of just running it down people's roads.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_02]: Jeff, these big old, movable offensive linemen and say, you know what, just fucking stop us.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_06]: Because you just take CC man and all at my anoint in the first round, play my record.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to worry.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_02]: He doesn't want to throw the ball.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_02]: He doesn't want to throw the ball.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, there was obviously two games running now.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_02]: We've not had a 200-plus yard game through the air and a couple of those plays like
- 31:42[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, whoever designed that, throw it behind the line of screwies where nobody's looking in it, you know, on another day that could have been returned for touchdown.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_02]: That person should be taken outside and shot.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_02]: And then, you know, to a looking throw weak pick sixes, the medallands, as he has done historically in the past.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_02]: That ball that was almost put, I mean, should have been just a walk in touchdown.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_02]: It was just like, at that point, you could just sense, but down it was like, I never want to see throw the ball again ever.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_02]: We're just going to run it for the
- 32:12[SPEAKER_02]: So we're obviously not going to make the play off, so that's the frustrating thing because as we're dolphin friends, we're going to have to, there's still going to be a bit of excitement, still going to be a bit of excitement.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_02]: We'll probably get massively let down next week against the Steelers, who are going to do everything to do exactly the opposite of what my Daniel wants to do, which is
- 32:31[SPEAKER_02]: You know, if he still does definitely want to run the ball, then we're going to just, you know, they're going to put nine ten minutes of the box and just say to a, we know you can't throw out anymore because because we've seen your tape that I see.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_02]: And so that's what's going to happen.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know,
- 32:47[SPEAKER_02]: And he was fun Chris, it was okay to be, I mean, I had fun anyway, it was nice.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, great performances all around, I thought, you know, I know you gave Weaver a hell of a lot of shits through just early part of season out, but I thought Weaver's done a really good job this season.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_02]: you know, in some pretty trying circumstances.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_02]: And now God forbid, he's got that unit of absolute mismatched no name halfway.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_02]: And I had really well.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, it turns out that what we were had that I didn't have was the patients to see it through with those ruddy defensive tackles.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_06]: And those guys have come along.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_06]: The difference has come along.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_02]: It's not even the patient that could be a third of the degrees.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_02]: The disease.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_04]: Well, that's what one said.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_04]: They've had the patience.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, that was what's in Houston last night thinking, wow.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_02]: Come on, I really lasted to like.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_02]: Jalen Petrie is unbelievable, stingly.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_02]: All the guys, the Caleb Bullock, all the guys they got on that back end, and I was like, I think it, but like, our guys on the back end played unbelievably yesterday, you've got mella fondwood in the box, like a tapping sack, you've got, resolve Douglas looking like, Dorel Revis, you've got Minka roll over the shot.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that was a terrible part of the fear it's called on Minka, by the way.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_02]: The one deep down the field.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_02]: But like, you've got all these jacked Jones playing with, it's just like,
- 34:07[SPEAKER_02]: What's happening here, like, who even are these people?
- 34:11[SPEAKER_02]: Like, don't, it comes down to try to smack in someone in the mouth.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_06]: And it's like, wow, I mean, see, look, Zax dealer, two and a half, Zax.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, just, all the problems and shows up finally.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, credit and still even because I also look credit Martin Daniel.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_02]: We've said it, it's taking four and a half years to get here, which is the frustrating thing, but they clearly found something that's working.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_02]: There'll be a huge test next Monday night against the Steelers and it's going to be cold.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_02]: It's on the road.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_02]: These are games that we never ever ever win and but if he sticks to the form and this is the key thing for my Daniel.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_02]: Does he want to try and get sexy on Monday night for a while and just be like, yeah, we can ping it all over the field and let's just get away from the wrong game.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_02]: If they can stick to what's been working,
- 35:00[SPEAKER_02]: They're not making the playoffs, but, I mean, he's saving his job by the minute, I think, and I'd be very surprised now at this point if the Dolphids move on from my medanior, you know, he'll be on a short leasing next year and it probably all depends on who the new GM is and whether or not, you know, they're like, no, I just want to bring in my guy, but I think, you know, he's coaching pretty well and some of that play design is as sexy as any of the stuff that you see.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_02]: anywhere across the league at the moment, it really is and you know that's a difficult thing to say given the point that we've got to Chris and where we've been at times the season of depth that we've been to this season and I'm glad he's finally found his his run game mojo but it's working.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah and now Chris will apologize to Greg Bossage.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_06]: Not really.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_04]: No apologies to Greg Bossage.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_04]: I I may have referred to no actually I didn't I didn't refer to you as a sloppy that's you said I don't care
- 36:00[SPEAKER_04]: I don't care.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_04]: But last time, that was the best play of the day was called back.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_02]: And what was didn't even need to do that?
- 36:12[SPEAKER_04]: No, we didn't.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_04]: No, we didn't.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_04]: The best play of the day.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_04]: Actually, you know, and, and, you know, to get into it with a tight end and, and, also, it's in what he does well.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_04]: He is he is a receiving tight end.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_04]: And, um,
- 36:25[SPEAKER_04]: You know, as a receiving Titan, I'm going to want to use, I'm going to want to see you get open just to boil it down to simple as possible, I'm going to want to see you get open against man coverage and then run after the catch and so you know finish and run after finish catches tough catches and run after the catch and so.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_04]: And, and he showed, he showed off some run after the catch, particularly on that play that would all back.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_04]: That was, that was a phenomenal play.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_04]: You know, you're going to need to see a lot more of that before you start, you know, can I bank on this guy, what can I, what do I have in him?
- 37:01[SPEAKER_04]: somebody that just can flash.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, look at where we are with like a Malik Washington or somebody like that.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_04]: Like we're kind of like looking at him like, hey, he might be a decent for or something like that.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_04]: But he's flashed before he has flashed, you know, big plays before.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_04]: It's about the consistency and about the frequency that you pop up like that.
- 37:22[SPEAKER_04]: So, you know, he's just got to keep doing it.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_04]: He's got a long road ahead of him to, to, to, to, to, to, to,
- 37:26[SPEAKER_04]: be more than what he essentially is, which was a wave of wire guy that's gonna be number two and number three on the depth chart.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_04]: Even on Miami's depth chart, I think he's...
- 37:36[SPEAKER_04]: You'd probably say he's number three behind Darren Waller and Julian Hill who's blocking his ass off all the sudden, you know, and not making this sort of mistakes that he made before I think the game was fun the game was fun for especially at the beginning of it, I think that the first 30 40 minutes of the game, which is the the first quarter, those first three touchdowns, you know, it's just like, you know,
- 38:03[SPEAKER_04]: really really going and and got good feelings.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_04]: I think that it lulled for quite a long time, probably about two hours.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_04]: And I was looking at, you know, seeing what fan reactions were in you know, various spaces and Twitter and stuff like that.
- 38:19[SPEAKER_04]: And I think that people were just like, you know, come on, guys, you know, what's going on?
- 38:25[SPEAKER_04]: But then they got to go in again.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_04]: Speaking of that running game, I think what is interesting is going to be, you know, we were just seeing this on the discord channel.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_04]: Channel earlier people talking about, while, you know, the sealers, they're not going to have, they're going to load up the box.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_04]: They're going to not going to have the run game.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_04]: What's interesting about Miami's run game is that because it's misdirection and speed based.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_04]: uh... undeniably speed based with demand a chan and jalen right but also misdirection based you know it's all about taking uh... forcing guys to hesitate or take false steps and when you load the box against a run game like that that has that kind of speed and is that kind of you know eight or as as a extra blockers the misdirection
- 39:09[SPEAKER_04]: Running the box or loading the box might be the last thing you want to do, actually, because you know, you get a crease, you get the wrong guy taking a step in the wrong direction, and you're gone for a big play.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_04]: And this is an offence that needs big plays like it needs oxygen to breathe, right?
- 39:28[SPEAKER_04]: And I think that and we've seen what this looks like when teams do take the big play away, right?
- 39:35[SPEAKER_04]: And so last year, if you actually run the numbers about how often teams are playing in the box, against the Miami Dolphins, Miami overwhelmingly has its best rushing games against teams that load up the box more than they hold safety's back.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_04]: this is statistically true.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_04]: And so you can say correlation is not causation, and I get that, and there are reasons, you know, situationally, that that may be the case.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_04]: Might be the old adage about, you know, when the more times you run the ball, you win the game.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_04]: Well, yeah, you run the ball more because you're winning, you know, already.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_04]: And so, you know, it could be one of those things.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_04]: But I'm just saying that with this the structure of this run game, I don't think loading the box is actually what you want to, you know, and overwhelmingly what has happened this year is Tyre Kill went out.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_04]: We're not as afraid of these these wide receivers anymore.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_04]: We're not as afraid of this passing game anymore.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_04]: Um,
- 40:39[SPEAKER_04]: you know, they've increasingly lowered the amount of, because you can track this on PFF in other ways, like, you know, the number of snaps that guys have taken being lined up at free safety in court of both free safety, which can also be split safety, but, you know,
- 40:56[SPEAKER_04]: Um, you know, it just goes down and down as the season has gone on gone and gone on they don't they don't really believe in the the Tyre kill no Tyre kill passing game to a as diminished as he is and he is really diminished right now it's like watching J feet without there again.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_04]: Um, but you know, I think that, uh, I think that the irony of that is that that opens up.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_04]: These, uh, these big play potentials and Miami's offensive lives off of that big play potential.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_04]: Um, they're not, when they're not getting it in the passing game, they're getting it in the run game.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_04]: And the eight man box actually kind of helps that happen.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_04]: Um, so, you know, it'll be interesting to see if teams figure that out figure out essentially the same formula that bottled Miami up last year.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_04]: But, you know, last year, like, oh, it's a high-flying passing game.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_04]: It's Syrie Kill is jail and water.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_04]: Of course, we're going to hold everybody back.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_04]: Of course, we're going to hold safety's back and we're going to play deep.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_04]: Now, that's not the case, but that's still the most effective way, probably, to play against Mike.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_04]: So we'll see if that happens, but this is all for this next month.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_04]: Because you mentioned, you know, now McDaniel is playing his or coaching his way into keeping his job by the minute, right?
- 42:15[SPEAKER_04]: And to that, I say, what a difference a month makes, right?
- 42:19[SPEAKER_04]: Because one month ago, one month ago, he's fired like tomorrow, right?
- 42:24[SPEAKER_02]: I was in Washington, he's probably far to the fly out.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_02]: And then you know, I can admit, I'm Madrid against Washington.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_04]: And many said the same thing about the Saints game, Chris Alave catches that ball and the same thing.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_04]: I think what a difference a month makes and so the cautionary tale is what a difference another month can make.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_04]: Because this next month, you're facing three division heads.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_04]: There are three number one seeds in their division.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_04]: The Steelers are top of their division.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_04]: The bucks are top of their division.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_04]: And the Patriots obviously are top of our division.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_04]: The other routine that you're facing does have Joe Burrow and is getting in shootouts with teams because of that.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_04]: So this next four game stretch is going to be hell, really, to try it.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_04]: It's not facing the commander's depleted commanders, a really bad, you know, Saints team and, you know, a jet team that not only is depleted because they traded everybody away for first shot, but also playing really bad.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_04]: they did, but that's a division, that's a division.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, we've seen, we've seen that how many times have we been that with the Patriots, with the Tom Brady Patriots, where we just spoil them for no good reason.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_06]: You know, I think that I think that this is, that was two weeks in a row, those two weeks in a row, then an opponent that we beat goes on the road and plays a really, really good game, because the previous week, the commanders almost beat the Broncos, they lost to them in
- 44:02[SPEAKER_02]: But like good.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_02]: Look at those two games against the charges that the sack that never wasn't in the big lad Macon key play and the Patriots play when the kick return later on runs out of bounds.
- 44:14[SPEAKER_06]: The Carolina game is also the Carolina game is already game one.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_02]: The most fascinating thing of all is that my amazement offense, since she went from having absolutely no identity with Tuva.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we're sorry without Tuva, to having no identity whatsoever in this Dolphin's offense.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_04]: This is having no part of the offense.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, he doesn't.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_04]: Almost doesn't have a role.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_04]: It does remind me, I said, J. Feedlers reminds me of the playoffs.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_04]: Remember in the playoffs, J. Feedler throws interceptions in that first half against the Indianapolis Colts.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_04]: And for the second half, I don't think they threw another pass.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_04]: It was just a Lamar Smith over and over and over and over again.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_04]: And, and I think that that's that's where we've arrived at offense.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think it's sustainable though.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_04]: And I don't know that it's going to it's going to take us through this next four-day stretch.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_04]: And if they come out of this four-game stretch, you know, losing, I don't know, all four games or whatever.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_04]: then what are we going to be saying next but as far as Mike McDaniel's job security?
- 45:15[SPEAKER_04]: I mean what do we say after one loss as a fan base and as a media and stuff like that?
- 45:21[SPEAKER_04]: Like we practically say this after every incomplete pass.
- 45:26[SPEAKER_04]: So you know I think that I think that another month
- 45:30[SPEAKER_04]: We're gonna have to revisit this and we're gonna have to see.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_04]: So it depends on how this month goes, but you bring the point back to Anthony Weaver.
- 45:36[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, he has actually coaching his ass off, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's the top of the lists for head coach.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_04]: Particularly if his unit is able to sustain against this month, this coming month with the Steelers, the Bengals, the Buccaneers, and the Patriots.
- 45:56[SPEAKER_04]: If the defense is coming off looking like that,
- 45:59[SPEAKER_04]: then I think he's out.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_04]: I think he's gone some more.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but I think that will be going to the bathroom though.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_02]: Who will?
- 46:09[SPEAKER_02]: I think players will be going to the bathroom.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, yes, yes.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_02]: You can tell you can do that.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_02]: Locker room is.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_04]: And by the way, if it's been better than the offense in my opinion.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, if Anthony we were to get a job somewhere else as a head coach, I think for continuity's
- 46:28[SPEAKER_06]: Uh, if McDaniel is brought back next season, I think Ryan slow it would be the guy because I had no idea this was the case, but he's actually Anthony we've just lieutenant on on the sideline in games.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_06]: So that'll be interesting because you have possibly there his brother is Bobby right.
- 46:46[SPEAKER_06]: So has it I've we ever had.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_06]: a brother brothers as defense coordinator and office coordinator because you could see a promotion for Bobby on the offensive side with Ryan being the DC only only in the Shanna hand cult would that ever happen.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_06]: And it might happen here, and it might happen here.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_04]: And they are, those two are Shanahan cult guys, both of the slowx and I believe they're father, you know, but if I'm from recalling the right family, but yeah, those are only in the Shanahan cult, could you get a situation like that?
- 47:26[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, I don't think that there'll be a big giant search for, you know, the next hot D.C. No, I think it'll be just a straight promotion from within for, for Ryan's flow like, uh, you talked about like, um, having, you know, bringing eight, nine, ten on the box.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, what you said is absolutely true.
- 47:43[SPEAKER_06]: In this scheme, you start loading the box and you get yourself out leveraged.
- 47:49[SPEAKER_06]: to the to the wrong side especially the field side you end up playing defense 10 on 10 and that's not a good thing Because there's a reason your defense has a built-in advantage the quarterback is out of the play as soon as he hands the ball off So you're playing 11 on and 11 on 10 you start committing one guy to essentially running to the void
- 48:12[SPEAKER_06]: You're going to have issues, but yeah, let's talk a little about Mike McDaniel.
- 48:15[SPEAKER_06]: We talked a little bit about Mike McDaniel, but I want to get a little bit more into his bag in this game.
- 48:21[SPEAKER_06]: I got the sense that he decided, you know, I'm going to empty out a bunch of stuff here to see if it works.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_06]: Not that we don't have much respect for the jets, but once you're up to touch stance, I don't think he had much respect for them.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_06]: He was calling some pretty tricky stuff.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_06]: There is one play where it looks like it's just simple outside zone with General Wright.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_06]: He pulls the center and both tackles and leaves both defensive tackles unblocked.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_06]: Gain of eight for J.L.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_06]: Wright, what did you make of Mike McDaniel's bag yesterday?
- 48:55[SPEAKER_06]: Simon.
- 48:57[SPEAKER_06]: You think he was experimenting?
- 48:58[SPEAKER_06]: He thought he was experimenting or he was just sticking to a game plan that he formulated because I thought he was experimenting like crazy.
- 49:04[SPEAKER_02]: I just think it goes back to what we said at the top that he's almost like he's enjoying coaching again, like he's enjoying designing these rump eggs and I'm really important I think, you know, if you don't enjoy your work,
- 49:21[SPEAKER_02]: That also shows and when you've got those two athletic tackles in the run game, you've got the most athletic center in the league.
- 49:25[SPEAKER_02]: Why wouldn't you do those things and see what you can see what you can get away with?
- 49:29[SPEAKER_02]: And the jets aren't a bad defense, but we made them look like a bad defense yesterday.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, I mean, hats off to him.
- 49:36[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, Chris, I wanted to ask you about the defensive tackles yesterday we saw Kenneth Grant and Jordan Phillips get a combo going and get two pressures on back to back plays they were combining
- 49:52[SPEAKER_06]: Zikbiggers is a thing and by the way Omar Kelly, I'm gonna give him a little credit here.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_06]: It's gonna be on his story.
- 50:00[SPEAKER_06]: He's gonna talk to he already spoke to be Zikbiggers.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_06]: Some of the stuff I put it on our discord, some of the stuff with Omar, it's gonna be an Omar Kelly's piece tomorrow.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_06]: He told me I told the discord.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_06]: Zikbiggers in training camp was
- 50:22[SPEAKER_06]: He is below 320 pounds now, getting snaps, and is a factor.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_06]: That defense of line yesterday.
- 50:29[SPEAKER_06]: One thing I will say about the jets, you can't accuse that offensive line for a being a bunch of bombs.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_06]: That is a good offensive line.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, period.
- 50:39[SPEAKER_06]: And our defense line just beat that hell out of them.
- 50:41[SPEAKER_04]: And most of the boys, these are fair.
- 50:43[SPEAKER_04]: I think that Zee, so first off Zee figures, what he has to prove is that he's more than just a passing down only kind of guy, because that's what he is right now.
- 50:54[SPEAKER_04]: If you look at him, he played, I think he played 22 passing downs yesterday to five run downs, a run place, you know, that's a split that, you know, he's
- 51:08[SPEAKER_04]: you know, how he's being used, and they identified that very early.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_04]: They said that this is a guy that's ahead.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_04]: Where he is is with, you know, with the past rush.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_04]: And he's probably, I don't know if I want to say ahead of the game.
- 51:24[SPEAKER_04]: I'm reluctant to say that, but he's ahead his past rush is definitely ahead of where his run defenses.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_04]: And when you are a giant, you know, defensive tackle in the mold that he is, then to be a weakness against the run is sort of an unexpected thing.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_04]: So he's really going to have to clean that up.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_04]: Then he's got a hard, he's got a tough road ahead of him, you know, as far as this future of being like a really good player, a full all around player.
- 51:57[SPEAKER_04]: Now, on the other hand, can't the grant and and and Jordan Phillips, I think they are.
- 52:03[SPEAKER_04]: a little bit ahead just as all around players, particularly Jordan Phillips, as we mentioned before, I think he's sort of flipped.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_04]: He and Kenneth Grant on top of their, you know, on top of it's had a little bit, which he wouldn't have expected in the draft, but those two played really well.
- 52:21[SPEAKER_04]: I just think that overall when you're looking at the defense, when the defense was bad before,
- 52:26[SPEAKER_04]: There are a lot of issues in the secondary, there are a lot of issues in the linebackers, and the underneath coverage.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_04]: There's obviously some issues in the run game, but those issues blend into what the safety's we're doing and run support as well as the linebackers, what they were doing and runs, those these linebackers together now are playing phenomenal football.
- 52:49[SPEAKER_04]: Tyrell dots and Jordan Brooks, they've become a strength of the defense.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_04]: The secondary all the way around, as Simon alluded to earlier, is playing really good football and have no right to.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_04]: you know, like that they almost have no right to be playing the way that they're playing.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_04]: So this is a, this is such a phenomenal coaching job to me with Anthony Weaver and what he's done because you've seen the steady improvement.
- 53:16[SPEAKER_04]: Listen, he was, he was given a hard job because he had, that defense had the most personal turn over of any defense in the NFL, heading into the season.
- 53:28[SPEAKER_04]: You know, you look at what who took the snaps last year, who taken them this year.
- 53:32[SPEAKER_04]: It's the most personal turnover of any defense in the NFL.
- 53:36[SPEAKER_04]: I did the numbers on that.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_04]: And so, you know, that's tough.
- 53:42[SPEAKER_04]: And that's why they looked so atrocious in that first month.
- 53:47[SPEAKER_04]: You know, these guys were just not getting it.
- 53:50[SPEAKER_04]: Many of them had only just arrived on the team.
- 53:54[SPEAKER_04]: You know, it was, it was really bizarre GM strategy, I think that way, and then, and then, of course, there's, there's guys that you'd swear, you know, are you sure that this guy is actually fit for this defense for this style of defense, is he meant for this style of defense, but they stuck with it, they kept coaching the guys, they kept getting a little bit better and, you know, and he kept leading them and they just kept gradually going up and getting and getting better and better and now.
- 54:20[SPEAKER_04]: They're legitimately, or at least they have been, you could say, opponents, our opponents and the strength of the schedule is a factor, but, you know, for the last month or so, they've been one of the top defenses in the NFL.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_04]: Um, and, and I think that that's, I think that's to statistically, uh, factual, so, um, so I think that, uh, I think that the job that has been happening on defense is just utterly phenomenal.
- 54:48[SPEAKER_04]: Now you're possibly looking at getting, you know, him going off and being ahead coach somewhere and then you're wondering who's he going to bring with them.
- 54:58[SPEAKER_04]: the dolphins, I guess, would probably get draft picks for losing him to a head coach job.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_04]: I think two-third round picks is the deal, but obviously I think he's worth more than that as your coach.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_04]: So you really got to look at it going forward and saying, I kind of wonder, what is this going to look like in a month because I can still envision a universe where in a month
- 55:26[SPEAKER_04]: The defense is still playing pretty sound football, but we've lost all four of these games against tougher, tougher opponents, not weaklings.
- 55:35[SPEAKER_04]: And then somebody is going to be like, I think Anthony Weaver should be our head coach.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_04]: And somebody somewhere, you know, will be that.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_04]: And who knows if Steve Ross listens to?
- 55:48[SPEAKER_06]: Oh, wait, there's a very, very loud, you know, drum beat out there and on ESPN Fox Sports that Marcus Freeman is in for the, the giant's job.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_06]: Not that he's going to take it, but that the giant's number one target will be Marcus Freeman.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_06]: now that they're not in a bowl game, I don't know if that's suspicious at all, but it'll free them up to do something with the giants and talk to them.
- 56:15[SPEAKER_06]: So that's one less place that Anthony we were, you can get a job.
- 56:21[SPEAKER_06]: By the way, Chris, if you want to, if you want to say
- 56:27[SPEAKER_04]: No, I think Anthony, we've already did it enough.
- 56:29[SPEAKER_04]: Did you see how excited it was in that interception?
- 56:34[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 56:34[SPEAKER_04]: Like this is the guy that like can't catch a break as far as actually playing on the field.
- 56:41[SPEAKER_04]: But he gets on the field during the garbage minutes of the game.
- 56:44[SPEAKER_04]: Let's not be here.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_04]: Let's be clear about that.
- 56:47[SPEAKER_04]: Um, the garbage and he gets that interception.
- 56:49[SPEAKER_04]: It was a great interception, but it was like, he was more excited about that than at any point in the game Anthony we was and I was just like, are you just excited because like, you know, you're like, man, I've been
- 57:03[SPEAKER_04]: You know, he's I know he's been bottom.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_04]: I know he's been bottom for a long time with me.
- 57:10[SPEAKER_04]: And yeah, he's he's going to go on and he's going to be a special teamer in Philadelphia, big fangeos.
- 57:16[SPEAKER_04]: Or something like that, you know, that's that's the way things go.
- 57:19[SPEAKER_04]: But.
- 57:19[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, by the way, there was a like a mic mic up segment where Russell Douglas is talking to Jack Jones and he's telling Jack Jones, he caught it one handed and Jack Jones is looking at like, no, really are you going to tell like Jack Jones is like fucking asshole
- 57:38[SPEAKER_06]: you're not going to take my fucking job even.
- 57:41[SPEAKER_04]: But he's not if one thing has proved throughout the season is that he is not close to taking Jack Jones's job as the season has gone on.
- 57:51[SPEAKER_04]: Anthony Weaver's a believer in Jack Jones.
- 57:54[SPEAKER_04]: Jack Jones has played much, much better football as we've gone on more consistent football and and that is that is not going to happen.
- 58:03[SPEAKER_06]: All right, game ball time.
- 58:04[SPEAKER_06]: I'll go first.
- 58:06[SPEAKER_06]: Mine mines are mine are gonna be completely obvious.
- 58:09[SPEAKER_06]: After having a rough statistical season, this is actually a little good not be blocked.
- 58:14[SPEAKER_06]: And he wasn't going up against like slabbies or anything.
- 58:16[SPEAKER_06]: That's Simpson, that's tipman.
- 58:18[SPEAKER_06]: That's decent interior offensive lineman in the NFL.
- 58:22[SPEAKER_06]: Good ones.
- 58:23[SPEAKER_06]: And it's actually, it was just dominating them, could not be blocked.
- 58:27[SPEAKER_06]: And the other one is even more obvious.
- 58:28[SPEAKER_06]: General Wright, we've been waiting for two years.
- 58:31[SPEAKER_06]: He's here, not just on throw in the football.
- 58:32[SPEAKER_06]: Bad things tend to happen whenever you throw him the football.
- 58:35[SPEAKER_06]: He's holding drops, possible picks, sixes, and possible touchdowns.
- 58:39[SPEAKER_06]: But man, you give him the football.
- 58:41[SPEAKER_06]: He's physical, fast, and he always looks dangerous.
- 58:45[SPEAKER_06]: Like he always looks like he's that one break that one broken tackle away from the 60 yarder.
- 58:50[SPEAKER_06]: And I think he's a thing going forward and he should be taking all the Gordon snaps going forward.
- 58:56[SPEAKER_06]: It should be him and a chance leading the charge the rest of the way.
- 59:00[SPEAKER_06]: Those are my two game balls.
- 59:01[SPEAKER_06]: I go to use Simon.
- 59:02[SPEAKER_06]: You're a game boxer.
- 59:03[SPEAKER_02]: Right, Brilla and Rizzle Douglas on the world, absolutely outstanding.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_04]: I think I want to I want us even though he left like, you know, part way through the game.
- 59:15[SPEAKER_06]: You just say Greg Dolcech, by the way, that's what you see.
- 59:18[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, that would be hell of a sort.
- 59:22[SPEAKER_04]: No, I really want to give it to HN because because of how incredibly impactful he was even but he didn't need to get the game ball, he didn't need the full game, he only needed like after the game.
- 59:36[SPEAKER_04]: I'm reluctant to give it to anybody on defense to be honest because they went against a total sloppy in a quarterback and nothing the jets were going to do.
- 59:46[SPEAKER_04]: was going to work at all offensively once to our Taylor went out and Brady can.
- 59:52[SPEAKER_04]: And that's, you know, I get I'm not trying to say Brady cook wasn't a good prospect coming out.
- 59:57[SPEAKER_04]: He's a rookie.
- 59:58[SPEAKER_04]: He's a rookie.
- 59:59[SPEAKER_04]: And he looked overwhelmed out there.
- 1:00:00[SPEAKER_04]: He looked like he can't even handle a snap.
- 1:00:02[SPEAKER_04]: You know, us napping a hand off, you know, that kind of thing.
- 1:00:06[SPEAKER_04]: And, and you just knew there was going to be no management of the pocket.
- 1:00:11[SPEAKER_04]: There's going to be, you know, it was, it was rough rough outing for him overall.
- 1:00:17[SPEAKER_04]: And so the defense kind of had a little bit of a, you know, easier time of it.
- 1:00:22[SPEAKER_04]: But what H and did before he went out like was just unbelievable.
- 1:00:28[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
- 1:00:28[SPEAKER_06]: All right.
- 1:00:29[SPEAKER_06]: And that's it.
- 1:00:30[SPEAKER_06]: The next time we talk to you, we will preview Steelers.
- 1:00:32[SPEAKER_06]: Dolphins on Monday night football.
- 1:00:34[SPEAKER_06]: By the way, good news on Devon HN coach revealed today.
- 1:00:37[SPEAKER_06]: He could have gone in if needed.
- 1:00:40[SPEAKER_06]: He fell on the football and that knocked the air out of him and he thought he had something wrong with its ribs, but supposedly he felt good on the plane.
- 1:00:47[SPEAKER_06]: So he'll be ready for Monday night, essentially is what the coach said today.
- 1:00:52[SPEAKER_06]: So we will talk about that game on Thursday, but till then.
- 1:00:56[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks for listening to three yards per catty.
