- 2:10Pinnacle Consultants one of the fine companies that makes this this show possible each Monday
- 2:15through Friday. And I'll be honest with you, until they started sponsoring the
- 2:20show, I knew very little about asbestos or mold or any of the other
- 2:23things that they specialize in getting rid of. But I've actually learned a lot
- 2:27in the last few months from them by talking about him every day. Casey
- 2:30Brown and Greg Paul for Pinnacle join us right now. We'll start with you.
- 2:35Greg, good morning, Welcome to the show. How are you.
- 2:38I'm good, Dave, good to be here. Thank you having us someone
- 2:39here, appreciate thank you for being here. And Casey on the show today
- 2:43as well. All Right, get okay, now we get your microphone going
- 2:46there. Tell me a little bit. Let me start Greg. Let's start
- 2:51with you. Tell me a little bit about you. Oh, just a
- 2:54little bit of a No. I've been in the industry now for thirty plus
- 3:01years. As far as dealing with asbestos, lead based paint, mold,
- 3:05indoor air quality, that type of thing, and gosh, like I said,
- 3:08been more more than my fair sheriff, I've seen everything around as far
- 3:13as that. How did you get into this business? I started in this
- 3:15many many years ago by starting out doing the analytical part of asbestos. I'm
- 3:21learning how to analyze the samples, determine whether or not a mature contain's asbestos,
- 3:25how to determine whether or not there's asbestos in the air or anything like
- 3:29that, and kind of progressed my way up through to doing this through the
- 3:32remediation process, and then back over into consulting again. Okay, see,
- 3:36let's talk about you. How did you get into this? And give us
- 3:38a little buy on you. I've been in this about twenty years now,
- 3:42so I'm a little less than what Greg's been. I basically got in,
- 3:46like I was telling you earlier in the Yellow Pages, found an ad and
- 3:51got hired on by an asbestos lab that I actually Greg had worked prior to.
- 3:54And actually I've been with Pinnacle for roughly over twenty years now, so
- 3:59it's it's been a good thing and educational thing, and I've I've learned a
- 4:02lot in the twenty years i've been and both of you guys are are local.
- 4:05Yes, you're a dot yep, Polka dot and you are from the
- 4:10few areas great stadium up there by the way. Oh it's beautiful, it
- 4:15is it is indeed, So talk about this company, Pinnacle Consultants, and
- 4:20Greg will talk with you. You hear me the listeners here we talking about
- 4:24every day about what it is actually that you do. But you guys own
- 4:28the local franchise on this is that right? Yeah, we we own Pinnacle
- 4:31on Consultants. We used to be part of another company, but we bought
- 4:34the local branch here in twenty nineteen. We do. We say we're environmental
- 4:42consultants, but we focus primarily, as the ads and everything have said,
- 4:45on asbestos, lead based paint indoor air quality. We have the only certified
- 4:50an accredited lab in West Virginia for asbestos that is National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program
- 4:59approved, which means we're the only ones in the state that can analyze samples
- 5:01for schools, which is a requirement. We also have the only of course
- 5:06this is more Casey's fourteen than mine, but we have the only mold lab
- 5:11that's accredited in West Virginia also, but we go out in the field,
- 5:15and we take samples and do investigations in houses and everything for prior to renovations,
- 5:19prior to demolitions, to make sure that whether or not there's asbestos there
- 5:24or anything else that could be harmful. And guys, as I sat at
- 5:27the top of the show, I knew next to nothing about this subject.
- 5:29Well I started talking about it for your company and you became a sponsor of
- 5:32the show. And I'm certainly no expert on it now, but I have
- 5:35learned a lot. What are a couple of the things that people don't know
- 5:39about asbestos and mold and such. Probably the key day for asbestos says it's
- 5:45still around a lot of people feel like I said, I think it's something
- 5:47for forty years and it's like, oh, asbestus is, it's not a
- 5:50thing anymore. We're unfortunately Canada, some overseas countries and stuff still actually mine
- 5:56it. They don't know it for fun. It's got to be for some
- 6:00type of things. So the biggest thing is the exposure to this and the
- 6:03illness. I mean, nine eleven was a horrible thing, and that that
- 6:06was a big thing with asbestos during that time, because the towers were actually
- 6:12insulated with with a lot of asbestos, so it's it's part of a long
- 6:15term exposure moments. When it comes to the to the illnesses mesotheliomi, you
- 6:19see it on TV a lot, not as much as you used to,
- 6:23but there's other diseases asbestosis, lung cancers can be directed towards the asbestos exposure.
- 6:29So the mold is more of a cute issue with people with allergies and
- 6:34things of that nature. So it's it's two different variables in the environmental world,
- 6:40but but one's been around for a long time and it doesn't seem to
- 6:43be going away either. So I mean, the mold issue is one that
- 6:45I think because most people in their homes will probably think, well, I
- 6:48don't have asbestos, but mold is a major issue. Yes, yeah,
- 6:53yeah, it's definitely something that we get calls for every day, residential,
- 6:58commercial and dust show. It's just an issue, and unfortunately there's not a
- 7:01lot of regulations in regards to mold. There's some standards and Greg can kind
- 7:06of speak to those, But when it comes to mold, you're basically testing
- 7:10the outside air versus the inside air of the structure, and you're compared to
- 7:14us and sometimes Again, there's so many different things that you guys include in
- 7:16your copy points that I talk about. One of those is is that sometimes
- 7:19the air that you're breathing indoors is much more harmful than the air that you're
- 7:24breathing outdoors. Correct, I mean, you're you're cooped up inside, all
- 7:29right, So you're cooking, so all the everything is you're cooking, all
- 7:31those fumes or vapors and everything is all coming up into the air and everything
- 7:35like that. We don't get We started in the seventies. They started,
- 7:40Hey, the best thing that we think we should do for a house or
- 7:42for a building is to make it air tight. That's actually the worst thing
- 7:45we can do. We need these buildings to breathe so that you're getting fresh
- 7:47air into the house and circulating it around and everything. So that was actually
- 7:53one of the worst things that they did back then, was that we started
- 7:55seeing a lot of sick building syndromes and stuff in the seventies, the eighties
- 7:59and to that area after that after they started making these buildings air tight.
- 8:03So now they've started going away from that and not making him quite as airtight,
- 8:05but at least making sure that we could bring in plenty of fresh air
- 8:09for everybody and circulated around again. We're talking with Casey Brown and Greg Polly
- 8:13from Pinnacle Consultants this morning. One of the other taglines that you lose that
- 8:16you use guys, that I think is really good is what you don't know
- 8:20can hurt you. And a lot of times you people just don't think about
- 8:24it because you don't you don't see it. You know, you see a
- 8:28loose board on your deck. You know, you see that the walls need
- 8:30painted, whatever, but you just don't see these and so what you don't
- 8:33know can hurt you. Absolutely, you don't think about it. As one
- 8:35of the reasons we started doing this was to help educate the public and everything,
- 8:39and because we see samples and people going out and doing renovations and everything
- 8:43all the time and they don't understand that there's actually a requirement. There's a
- 8:46regulation out there that says that before you do any renovation, before you do
- 8:50any demolition, you must test that material for asbestos. Regardless of age.
- 8:56It doesn't matter if it was built yesterday before you disturb it, you still
- 8:58have to test it. Because you can still fund products of haf asbestos in
- 9:03it. It's not banned. It's Casey said. Everybody thinks that's band,
- 9:05but it's not. It's not. It's still coming in from these other countries.
- 9:09It's still out there, still being imported, still being manufactured. Indeed,
- 9:13it's and it can be kind of kind of scary stuff because again,
- 9:16what you don't know to use your line and what you don't know can hurt
- 9:20you. What does your business footprint look like? What I mean, how
- 9:24far out do you guys go or I mean, you were telling me about
- 9:28your schedule before we went on the air today, and I thought I had
- 9:30a rough schedule. But I think I think you have won a better batters
- 9:33mine. I'm gonna be doing a little traveling today. Yes, we cover
- 9:35West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky and Virginia's primarily what we come and who are
- 9:41the who is the average customer? I mean, what do you see more
- 9:43than anything else? Who's the person that calls your fun? I think it's
- 9:46the school system's day. I mean, because schools are actually regulated by what's
- 9:50called the HERA, the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act, and it basically forces
- 9:56schools to make sure they know where their asbestos is if they manage it place
- 10:00properly. Asbestos isn't dangerous until you disturb it, right, That's the key.
- 10:03Because I lived in the house prior to the one I live in now
- 10:07and there was asbestos floor tile under the carpet, I had no concerns.
- 10:09And if you live in an older house, that's probably the case. There's
- 10:11the case. Yeah, But as long as you don't disturb it, then
- 10:15typically it's it's the best play. But we always recommend that they do removal
- 10:18if they can afford It's it's not a cheap thing. You know. There's
- 10:22there's very few people out there that do the actual removal. We don't.
- 10:24We can recommend some people, but how many people in the state actually actually
- 10:28do it. Off the top of your head, I'd say they've probably what
- 10:31a dozen people maybe that are located in the state. Yeah, I mean,
- 10:35because sometimes you probably have to bring them in from out of state.
- 10:37I would think absolutely, there's several contractors that are out of state that come
- 10:41in state. There's national contractors. There are some real big ones out there
- 10:45that that cover you know, the whole United States as far as it is.
- 10:48So there's multiple contractors out there, but as far as it's based in
- 10:50West Virginia, gosh, I don't. I'd have to look at them.
- 10:54Well, you get and we do want to make sure that we have a
- 10:56distinction if you guys don't actually do the removal yourself, you're just the folks
- 11:00that come out to take a look at these particular it says, and I
- 11:03mentioned I was talking about Herbert Hoover High School earlier. When you're part of
- 11:07the world, when you see these new buildings going up, whether it's a
- 11:11school or whether it's an office building or a mall or whatever happens to be
- 11:13going up, I would imagine they've got all of the modern day education to
- 11:18know when they go in. Okay, let's don't do this. I mean
- 11:22one would hope anyway. Well, yes, they've got the education and a
- 11:26lot of these the school systems in particular, they're really good because they put
- 11:30out things in their contracts and stuff that says, hey, you cannot use
- 11:33anything with asbestos in our buildings and stuff like that. But to catch twenty
- 11:37two with schools is they still have to presume everything is asbestos, whether it
- 11:41is or until they test it and prove that it's not. They still have
- 11:43that responsibility of presuming it is. Okay, and you guys are hiring as
- 11:48I understand as that right, we are. Yeah, we're looking for trying
- 11:50to find a couple of people that does involve travel, that is for sure,
- 11:54because like I told you, I'm heading from here to Huntington, up
- 11:58to bellpri Ohio, and then from there probably down to Parkersburg and a couple
- 12:01other spots in between. So it does require some traveling though, Okay,
- 12:05And so what are the what kind of qualifications are you looking for if you
- 12:07hire somebody other than the ability to be able to travel? We you know,
- 12:13high school education, you know, we we provide all the additional training
- 12:16and stuff. If you've got college education, that's a put bonus for us
- 12:20as far as that goes must be now, I mean, obviously got the
- 12:24eighteen, can be licensed or anything unless you're eighteen to stay to do any
- 12:28of this stuff. But for the most part, we just look for somebody
- 12:30living and breathing in nowadays. That's that's start and a pulse and working people.
- 12:39If they're interested, can they just email you, go to your website,
- 12:41to a website, and that's Pinnacle Corp. Dot net. Yes,
- 12:45it is Pinnacle Corp dot net. Yeah, there is a link down there

- 16:30Happy to be here. These guys are great man Pinnacles consultants. I
- 16:33mean, they really really are. If you get a chance in any of
- 16:36your businesses and you ever need I'm networking here, Eric, So it's we've
- 16:40had to do that. We've had issues and we went and bought properties and
- 16:42had to get rid of both asbestos and uh mold. So yeah, it
- 16:45just happens. Yeah, it just happens. It doesn't matter how much you
- 16:48spend for the property either. Sometimes it happens. Senator you uh it made
- 16:52quite a splash with your press release last week that you are endorsing current Congressman
- 16:59Alex Mooney and the Senate battle against current Western you governor gym Justice. Pretty
- 17:04pretty scathing press release. It was picked up nationally by people saying that you
- 17:11know, this is how this race is going to turn out in West Virginia.
- 17:14It's going to be a nasty one. Why didn't you feel, Eric,
- 17:15that it was important to get that endorsement out there, And what in
- 17:19the heck do you have against the governor? Well, I tell you what.
- 17:22The first thing is. The reason it's important to get it out there
- 17:26is that there's three races. Really they're going to swing the US Senate and
- 17:30the country is in a terrible direction away it's been going with current leadership the
- 17:34Senate's really not showed a backbone to come up and move conservative policies that help
- 17:42our families, that help our our security, with our finances, because with
- 17:47inflation going out to reach uncontrolled spending, there's just a lot of stuff that's
- 17:52been happening up on the Senate side that has been detrimental as a whole to
- 17:56the country and certainly to West Virginia so on. But but the Gym Justice
- 18:00is a Republican. He's going to take care of that right well. And
- 18:03that's the point of the endorsement letter, you know, is to show that
- 18:06that's not the case. And I get to see that from the inside,
- 18:10and the public doesn't get to see it. What they get to see is
- 18:11the marketing that goes out on the political stuff. When he says I'm not
- 18:14a politician, when he's being the epitome of a politician making a seal on
- 18:18lack of values. That the back up what his message is. And so
- 18:22that's what the endorsement letter is about, is that we need to pull the
- 18:25US Senate to the right. And so we have three really three sentate races
- 18:29that give us an opportunity to do that. That's West Virginia High and Wisconsin
- 18:32have those seats coming up that are really going to matter. Like we've been
- 18:34able to pull the House of Representatives to the right, and you see that
- 18:38struggle where they're going through and they're starting to slow down a lot of this
- 18:41just socialist Marxist policy that had been coming across the country. And we've done
- 18:47that by moving the House of the House of Representatives to the right. The
- 18:51Senate also has to go the right. And the problem is, and the
- 18:53opportunity is. The problem is is that I think that a lot of people
- 18:57because based on the success of West Virginia, which has been ninety nine percent
- 19:03driven by a legislative policy, not this governor. It's been done in spite
- 19:06of this governor, has they that's mistaken for good conservative governor And that's not
- 19:14the case. What the reality is is Alex Mooney is the conservative in this
- 19:17race. And if we don't put a conservative like Alex Mooney in the Senate,
- 19:22then then we've lost an opportunity to move the US Senate to the right.
- 19:27And so you know, and the reason Mitch McConnell is recruiting Jim Justice
- 19:32is because he's a vote for Mitch McConnell for Senate president. That's just the
- 19:34way these things work. You know, when you go in and you start
- 19:37establishing recruiting candidates for whether it's at a state level, where it's at a
- 19:40Senate level or a US level, it's all about who gets that controlling power.
- 19:45Now, one's a party controlling power, and that's that's one thing.
- 19:48Another thing is is who within that party is actually has control of that caucus.
- 19:53And Mitch McConnell has not been the diehard conservative that we need in this
- 19:57country right now. And so in Joe Justice's administration, he has enough set
- 20:03in negotiations at very high level negotiations with the Senate President, with the Speaker
- 20:08of the House, and the person that comes in and sits in a governor's
- 20:11seat to meant to go in and moderate that negotiation without the governor. President
- 20:15is Puccio. Larry Puccio. Larry Puccio, chief of staff for Joe Manchin.
- 20:18He is Joe Manchin's right hand. And that's the reason I said,
- 20:22you know this, essentially we have a stand in for Joe Manchin right now
- 20:26that goes up and it's just another Joe mentioned the Senate. And that does
- 20:29not pull the U s centate right? Does it bother you? Again,
- 20:32we're talking to sent financial Eric tar and five that hell, does it bother
- 20:34you that the polls have Governor Justice favored so heavily, I mean way heavily
- 20:41against against Alex Mooney at this point, you know, it bothers me that
- 20:45that people haven't been able to see through to what this man really is as
- 20:51a governor. And I think and that's and I think it's it's understandable because
- 20:55West Virginia's been doing incredible I mean, we really have. If you just
- 20:57look at what's been happening with West Virginia, the things we've moved off the
- 21:00bottom of the wrong for from forty nine and fiftieth and so. But this
- 21:03again, this just comes from the ideas and the work of the legislature,
- 21:11not because of this governor, but in spite of this governor. You know,
- 21:14we've went this past year. We've had the record invest private investment.
- 21:18We had six billion dollars in twenty twenty two investment. In the previous four
- 21:22years we had a six billion dollars total, and that was a record for
- 21:25West Virginia. We had We've added one hundred twenty five thousand jobs over the
- 21:29past five years. I expect to take that back past three years. We
- 21:33have the fifth best funded pension in the country. We have the eighth it's
- 21:37seventh or eighth best funded rainy day fund in the country. If you look
- 21:42at the GDP growth, West Virginia has the second fastest growing GDP in the
- 21:48country. And if you look at wage growth we have I think it's the
- 21:53sixth fastest wage growth in the country. And those are at fifteen point two
- 21:56percent. They're not small numbers. There are enormous numbers. Uh, it's
- 22:00there's there's stat after stat after stat after stat like that that's happened in West
- 22:03Virginia and people feel it, and I thank god that we get to enjoy
- 22:07that. But that has come from legislation that started in twenty fifteen, and
- 22:11it has been a tooth and nil fight to get that kind of stuff done
- 22:12against this governor. He came in one of a four hundred fifty million dollar
- 22:15tax increase when he stepped in as governor and he wanted to increase spending.
- 22:19He put a pile of kalmaneure on a budget that controlled spending, but literally
- 22:23in the Capitol Dome that controlled spending by four hundred and fifty million dollars.
- 22:27That has put us in this position. We've had flat budgets for four years
- 22:32in a row that are generated about six hundred million dollars ongoing that allowed us
- 22:36to produce this the largest tax cut in history of West Virginia. So those
- 22:40those things didn't come from Jym Justice. They came us, tripping over every
- 22:42trip wire he put out there to try to get there. And but but
- 22:45you know, if you if you don't pay close attention to politics, if
- 22:48you're really not on that dome, you really don't see what's happening, then
- 22:51you think that that well, you know, the guy at the helm is
- 22:52Jym Justice. This is because of him, and that's I think where a
- 22:56whole lot of that polling comes from is that. And it's understandable. But
- 23:00if you ask anybodies around close to that dome that has the intestinal fort or
- 23:03two to tell you, because you're talking about a governor here, they know
- 23:07the stuff that I put in that letter is absolutely honest to god fact.
- 23:11Well, on this very show last week, the chair of the Democratic Party,
- 23:14Mike Pushkin said, I agree with Eric tar that's rare. I'd like
- 23:18to have that in a promo for it. And he didn't say that because
- 23:22that came out at about the same time. But I had Pushkin on the
- 23:25show last week and I actually read it on the air. I don't even
- 23:27think that I don't even think it had gone out to the public yet.
- 23:30And I actually read it on the air and he said, I agree with
- 23:33him. This is the state Democratic Party chair and delegate for this area and
- 23:38it is agreeing with you on this. Yeah. And it's a very rare
- 23:41occasion that you'll see the head of the state Democrat party agree with me.
- 23:45That's that's that's for sure. And so it always makes one thing, Yeah,
- 23:49just one thing, Just one thing. And the reality is, you
- 23:52know, when it comes down to it, there's a lot of things that
- 23:53both parties agree on. The come through West Virginia. You know, it's
- 23:56it's a great majority of things because the majority of the legislation and that passes
- 24:00through Eric, can you know this, The majority of it is bipartisan,
- 24:03the great majority of the five Democrats that are there. Yeah, yeah,
- 24:07it is. And you know, it's it's just and that's the case,
- 24:08and so the stuff that comes down that is more ideological and philosophical along the
- 24:14party lines, which that's nowhere near the majority of legislation. It's a great
- 24:17minority of legislation. That's where the stuff really hits the headlines. Yeah,
- 24:21well, and that's the sexy stuff. So that's what makes the headline.
- 24:23Uh, is your endorsement of Alex Mooney, UH Senator an endorsement of him
- 24:30more of a strike against Jim Justice or a little of both. It's a
- 24:34little of both. You know, Alex want you get. You get what
- 24:37you see with Alex. And this is a difference between having a marketer for
- 24:42a US senator versus having a pragmatist as a US Senator with Alex Mooney,
- 24:51when you know, I've got to know Alex pretty well over campaign trails.
- 24:53I've went door to door with Alex when I was when I was campaigning myself.
- 24:56We went through in down in Putnam County. We knocked doors together when
- 25:00we're both on the ticket at the same time. So I got to know
- 25:03him really well walking streets of Hurricane and Tay's Valley and all those areas,
- 25:07going door to door, just talking and looking at also what he does in
- 25:11the House of Representatives. He stands for family values, he stands for controlled
- 25:17spending, he stands up when he's going to take a hit for doing it,
- 25:22and we just have not seen that in that aggressive representation into you a
- 25:29Senate and you know those that know me in the state Senate. No,
- 25:33there's a lot of similar characteristics there when it comes to that is that I'll
- 25:37tell you what I think and then I'll advocate the way I told you,
- 25:41and I'll vote the way I told you. And that's what That's what I've
- 25:44seen with Alex Mooney. So it's definitely an endorsement for Alex Mooney. And
- 25:48what people need to know when you show up in this Republican primary, the
- 25:51person that wins this Republican primary will be your next US Senator, and you
- 25:56have to think about what's happening nationally in this case. In this case,
- 26:00the US Senate has to move right. Jim Justice pulls it left. He
- 26:06pulls it left. If if if Mitch McConnell wants Jim Justice, Chuck Schumer
- 26:10definitely wants wants Jim Justice, and that just goes through because you know Joe's
- 26:15guys or Chuck's guys and Joe is a tool of Chuck Schumer. And then
- 26:21Joe's guys are in there running the governor show. So it's we're not changing
- 26:29for the better, we're changing for we're either the same or worse if you
- 26:32put Jim Justice in that seat. So there's a there's a strong lack of
- 26:36endorsement actually whatever the antagonist is that endorsement for Gym Justice. But there's also
- 26:41I'm really thank god we got a candidate that's juxtaposed to him, like Alex
- 26:45Mooney, and so I know, I hope people play real close attention to
- 26:49what's happening in nashally and what they want to see for our nation when they
- 26:53choose at West Virginia US senter. And you know, we are still the
- 26:56listeners, Eric hear me say this every day. We are still way early
- 27:00in this campaign, all campaigns for that matter, not just this one.
- 27:04And you are going to see a whole lot of money coming to West Virginia.
- 27:10You're going to see a whole lot of ads to radio, television,
- 27:12internet, newspaper that are going to come out that are going to get involved
- 27:15in this race. She mentions one of the two or three swing racists.
- 27:19It really is, I mean, knock out a couple texts here, because
- 27:22you're always good about asking or answering tex Tex, says Ascary Tar. Why
- 27:26he overlooks Alex Money's Office of Congressional Ethics Investigation finding probable cause that that Mooney
- 27:33misappropriated campaign and taxpayer money. You know, I don't know how the US
- 27:37sent and Investigations works with the Ethics Committee, but I do know how it
- 27:41works at the state levels. So this has been my experience with the Ethics
- 27:44Committee to the state level, is that we have brought issues directly to the
- 27:47Ethics Committee in front of the Finance Committee and has went nowhere because the Ethics
- 27:51Committee is appointed by the governor. And so you have one of the most
- 27:55conservative delegates in the House, representative representatives in the House, Representative Mooney,
- 28:00under a Democrat party leadership, whose Ethics Committee comes into attack Alex Mooney.
- 28:06Well, of course, So I mean it's just I expect it. I
- 28:08expect it not because of Alex. I expect it because of who's in leadership
- 28:12within the House. Represent us Tech, says Astar. If he can name
- 28:17one thing that Mooney has done for the state. He voted against every bill
- 28:18in Congress that's bringing jobs to the state. And they went on to say
- 28:23that you're a little too radical, but we're not here to talk about you
- 28:26necessarily, but but go ahead. You know. That's and sometimes I'm I'm
- 28:32complimented by somebody call me a little too radical, because usually that's to me,
- 28:34that's the too far left that's calling me that. So but as far
- 28:38as what things that he's done for the state specifically, one of the things
- 28:45is is that he's given us the opportunity to move the US Senate to the
- 28:49right. That is it. It's either we're gonna send somebody up that either
- 28:52moves the US Senate to their right or gonna send somebody that moves it to
- 28:56the left. With Alex Mooney, we send it to the right. With
- 28:59Jim Justice, we send it to the left. So what do you want
- 29:00for your country? That's the question. So if you also look at what
- 29:06comes back to West Virginia in a lot of this incredible spending, I'll tell
- 29:10you what didn't happen with the Infrastructure Infrastructure Reduction or Inflation Reduction Act by parts
- 29:15infrastructure, we had what should have been the most influential person in the country
- 29:22at the time, which would have been Joe Manchin, who's pivotal there.
- 29:26Because of the numbers in the Senate, which will change not getting West Virginia,
- 29:33it's fair share by anywhere close. Okay, So let's say, if
- 29:37you've got that kind of leverage, the relative number that we've got in those
- 29:40dollars relative to any other state in the country is infamitesimal. Now it's choose
- 29:44for West Virginia. It's it's like a starving guy getting a piece of bread
- 29:47only his plate. My gosh, thank you, thank you, thank you,
- 29:48thank you, But you don't realize there's a whole grocery store sitting outside
- 29:52the door. That's what we got out of it. So the second thing
- 29:56is is that what we also got as a nation is you got your dollar
- 30:00worth twenty cents less than it was a couple of years ago, just two
- 30:03years ago. You know. So if go out and buy eggs, buy
- 30:07milk, buy gas, go buy anything to build a house with, and
- 30:11see what inflation looks like. And that's because of that extraordinary spending. And
- 30:17what Alex Mooney has done is he's fought that and it's there's no end in
- 30:21sight at this point for that level of inflation, and Alex Mooney and a
- 30:25lot of the guys like him out there fighting, fighting, fighting that.
- 30:26So we have to have that conservative majority that allowed West Virginia to enjoy what
- 30:32it has in spite of all that, with the policies we've stood up in
- 30:36place that got us to all those rankings that's talking about, and many many
- 30:38more that have happened along the way. Text says Dave. Mister char is
- 30:42right, no more justice for West Virginia's as a Texter. Eric, do
- 30:47others, or do a significant amount of others within the Republican Party in West
- 30:51Virginia share your disdain for this governor? I would say there's a you know,
- 30:56disdain is this thing? Maybe a word that's probably correct for me because
- 31:02I've seen what he is at a personal level, you know. So,
- 31:06But as far as an incredible disappointment and angry with what he's brought to that
- 31:12or hasn't brought this case may be, to the governor's office. Yeah,
- 31:17there's people very high in the Republican leadership of this state that are just dismayed
- 31:23that there's this much popularity still. You are you concerned. Last week the
- 31:29news came out about this new group I delegate to Foster out of Putnam County,
- 31:34my home and your home. You know, it was talking about this
- 31:37this new group, Freedom Coalition, Freeddom Coquetarre. And I bring that up
- 31:41to say this, are you concerned that with that and then maybe a very
- 31:47very bitter Senate race, perhaps also a governor's race that could hasn't yet but
- 31:52could possibly, and some of the other races as well, does that concern
- 31:56you that that the Republican Party would in fact on West Virginia at some point
- 31:59be eating its own now And no, no, not at all. This
- 32:01is you know, there's always there's always going to be debate within any party.
- 32:08So you've got and because you've got Senate districts that are so extremely different
- 32:12from across this state. You've got some like like mine it's a very conservative
- 32:15district. You have others it's like here in Charleston that's not going to be
- 32:20quite so conservative. So that creates some disagreement just because of who those people
- 32:22sin to the Senate. But beyond that is that it's very different from what
- 32:28you're hearing for the Freedom Caucus within the US the US House of Representatives as
- 32:31compared to what's being stood up here, and it's very different from what's being
- 32:35stood up in the House of Delegates here in West Virginia's compared to the part
- 32:37that's from the Senate. The part that's from the Senate is largely led by
- 32:40Patricia Rucker and Robert Carnes and so, and they have been really disappointed with
- 32:46the level of influence that they can garner within the Senate, and they have
- 32:52been undermining any conservative effort because if they attach their name to it, just
- 32:58about everybody in that caucus knows they need to avoid it, even if it's
- 33:01a good policy, because you don't want to be associated with those individuals at
- 33:05this point. And so what'll happen is is the same thing that happened in
- 33:07the Senate president race when Patricia Rocket, under Robert Carne's advice, challenged President
- 33:15Craig I'm sorry, drew your little brain fart there. Challenge Craig Blair,
- 33:19is that by the time you actually when the rubber hit the road, there
- 33:22was nobody there. You know, you came out. It was a unanimous
- 33:24vote for President Craig Blair for the president. Senate and that's what'll happen with
- 33:29this too. It'll fizzle out. It's it's something to grab a little media
- 33:32attention. They've done a good job getting that, But this has no comparison
- 33:36whatsoever to what happens in the US. Has before we let you go,
- 33:38Seni Financier Eric Kuttar, the governor's financial information came out yesterday, one hundred
- 33:45and thirty four days late, I think, but but but it was able
- 33:50to get out there. Brad mcahannick breaks it all down and a very good,
- 33:52very detailed story at wv metro news dot com. He'll be on with
- 33:57Hoppy to talk about it later. I'll be on this show tomorrow to talk
- 33:59about it. As a numbers guy that you are, did you get a
- 34:01chance to look at the governors set financials? Did you have any comments?
- 34:05I know I did, and it was it was I think a tweet he
- 34:07put out that I looked at. Just go and get that reference and go
- 34:09see those financials. Then there's two things that really stand out to me that
- 34:13I think that are worth asking about. One is two personal loansome break carey
- 34:16you have you have that are over a million dollars apparently somewhere between one and
- 34:20five million dollars that you have somebody who loaned him personally at a ten percent
- 34:27interest rate money for whatever. We have no idea what those loans are for.
- 34:30And then it happened immediately after he left the governor's office and went to
- 34:34be on the board of governors with the Western University. The second thing that
- 34:37is very curious to me in relationship to having almost no income reported from him
- 34:43for him personally out of all these assets, is that there's a lot of
- 34:47personal line of credits from those assets to gym Justice as zero percent interest rate
- 34:53with payment on demand. So I think that it may be that's probably where
- 35:00to me if I'm looking at those and just and I think, I think
- 35:02it's very questionable to me on so what happens with that personal line of credit
- 35:07from your business to you with zero percent interests that is just payable on demand
- 35:13on a company that you control. So let's worth asking some questions about the
- 35:17financi Sherry Tar, It's always a pleasure to have you on the show.

- 38:58you, sir. I'm doing a good day. Thank you for having me
- 39:00in. Good morning, fresh out of Tennessee. Man. Yeah, we
- 39:02just got back from doing two mountain stages downe in Franklin. That's outside in
- 39:07Nashville. It is. Yeah, just a little south of nash You have
- 39:08on the buill down there, Man, it was great. The first night
- 39:10we had Steve Earle, the guy I know you know a thing or two
- 39:13about it has been on the show. Actually, Elizabeth Cook, two XM
- 39:19radio hosts. You had Elizabeth Cook on the show. Elizabeth Cook is one
- 39:22of my favorite people in the world. Why why did I not get an
- 39:24invite to take this road trip? She's the cutest and the best man she
- 39:29is. I love an iconoclassed and I love that about her. I got
- 39:31a fishing show now, Elizabeth Kuttle. I saw some of it. She
- 39:35had our boy mcfolio on there. Well, she has a drinking show that
- 39:37happens to fish. That's what That's what I saw one time with they can't
- 39:42advertise a drinking show. Yeah you can have some beer. Has a drinking
- 39:45show that well, they were drinking Jack Daniels. I think it was the
- 39:49show I saw. But anyways, I'm sorry. I got a little fanboy
- 39:52there, Elizabeth Cook. Yeah. Well, when we had Jason isabel on
- 39:53the next night, which was really cool and he was hot off the road
- 39:57man. He did Healing Appalachia on Friday night, I understand, and he
- 40:00flew to New York to do some press stuff and got right off the plane
- 40:02and came to the Franklin to do Mountain Stage with us, which was really
- 40:06cool and had two sold out shows down there. It was really really Wait
- 40:09a minute, now, okay, hold on. You had Isabelle, uh
- 40:12huh, Elizabeth Cook and Steve Earle all down there at one time, well
- 40:17on two different nights, but yes, yeah, yeah, absolutely a ton
- 40:20of talent, man, and with the big West Virginia Mountain Stage logo promoting
- 40:24this, definitely that is pretty cool stuff. Thank you, yeah, cool
- 40:27man. And we got a great a lot of great interest. We had
- 40:30people in the audience who have been to West Virginia for the show before,
- 40:32and then of course we encouraged everybody to we always say follow us on social
- 40:36media, but even better if you'll follow us back to West Virginia. You
- 40:38can't see a show, you spend some money while so what are you get
- 40:43going on? Now? So? Wow, We're right back at it tomorrow
- 40:45night at JQ. Dickinson Sault. We're having a fundraising event for Mountain Stage.
- 40:50And yeah, of course Mountain Stage does get some state funding for sure,
- 40:52and we have private underwriters and companies and grant money that funds Mountain Stage
- 40:57and a certain amount of ticket sales. But the one thing we don't have
- 41:00built in our budget is equipment upgrades, you know. And we're working on
- 41:04consoles right now that we're new and fresh instead of the art in two thousand
- 41:07and nine and which may as well be nineteen twenty nine in a way in
- 41:12that world for sure, and thankfully everything's working great right now, but we
- 41:15have to get upgraded in order just to keep things congruent with what's going on
- 41:19technology wise, and certain things are no longer being updated, you know,
- 41:22some things you can't get even get repaired anymore. And so just to make
- 41:24sure that we're giving the highest quality broadcasts and live performances both to ticket holders
- 41:30and to radio listeners, we're working on building some funds up to help us
- 41:34upgrade our consoles and get new cases for those consoles, and basically upgrade the
- 41:37entire inner working system of how we record and broadcast Mountain Stage and so we're
- 41:42having a fundraising dinner tomorrow night at JQ Dickinson, Salt and Malden, a
- 41:46beautiful outdoor setting. We are going with our rain plan. I think the
- 41:50weather is going to be perfect still, but we're going to be undercover.
- 41:52Plenty of room underneath there and we're going to utilize the house inside as well.
- 41:57And there's only less than ten tickets available a visit Mountain Stage dot org.
- 42:01Now, when he says that there's less than ten tickets, he means
- 42:05ten as and not you know, five hundred ten. He means there's less
- 42:07as we speak right now, when he walked through the studio, less than
- 42:10ten tickets are available, that's right, And we'll only have so much food.
- 42:14So that's basically what it's based on is how many heads we have to
- 42:16feed here, and so less than ten tickets available. It is one hundred
- 42:20and fifty dollars ticket, which I think for the catering we're getting from ten
- 42:23ten bridge plus a chance to mingle a little bit with Larry Gross and Kathy
- 42:28Mattea and some great live music. And we're gonna have some really cool auction
- 42:30items as well for folks who want to give even more and I know we're
- 42:35gonna have a great turnout. And if anyone who wants to join us,
- 42:37you can check out Mountain Stage dot org. Their tickets are available via event
- 42:39bright and then show up to Malden tomorrow night six to nine. We're gonna
- 42:44have cocktails and orders from six to seven and then we're gonna have dinner and
- 42:49a little bit of entertainment starting at seven pm from the Jesse Millins Band,
- 42:52who are some of the people to be playing there. Yeah, Jesse Mills
- 42:55is the son of Jerry Mills and is a wonderful well known musician up in
- 42:59the Elk area. His wife, Emily Miller, runs the Augusta Heritage Center
- 43:04up at Davis and Elkins College and so she's the artistic director there of the
- 43:07Augusta Workshops. And so Jesse and Emily have a honky tonk band called the
- 43:12Jesse Millins Band, So they're coming down and then the openers, or rather
- 43:15for cocktaile, we're gonna have some old time music from Tessa Dylon who's won
- 43:20multiple awards over at Vandelia and also at Cliff Top and Chance McCoy, who
- 43:23most recently was a member of Old Crow Medicine show. Him and Tessa are
- 43:28an item in life and on stage and they do an old time duo thing
- 43:30together. And I think they're going to set in with the Jesse Millins Band
- 43:34too. So just like Mountain Stage, you know, a lot of collaborative,
- 43:36a lot of fun music jam session going on, no doubt, no
- 43:37doubt. It's gonna be fun. And we've got a couple of musical numbers
- 43:42lined up to pay tribute to a few of our special guests that are going
- 43:45to be with us. So it's gonna be fun, really fun. Cost

- 49:54He's a bit of a little man. It's a text. I mentioned this
- 50:00earlier again during the interview with Senator Tar. The governor's financial disclosures are out,
- 50:04and again, as I mentioned, they're not good. Well, it's

- 50:46later this morning and with me tomorrow. Further programming note, I told you
- 50:52yesterday about this effort to institute what is known as PODA in the city of
- 51:00Charleston. It's a public outdoor drinking area. This has gone on. Huntington
- 51:04just passed it. It's happening in other cities. I saw it in areas
- 51:07around Columbus, Ohio, Maria to Ohio as well. Basically, it would
- 51:10allow people with the purchase of a certain designated cup to be able to drink
- 51:17in certain areas of Charleston. Again, you can't walk down the street.
- 51:21Get that smile off your face, Ryan, You can't walk down the street
- 51:22with your bottle of jim Beam or with your bud light. Well, okay,
- 51:27never mind, nobody buy his bud light anymore or that you can't do
- 51:30that. But it would be a specialized cup that you would purchase in order
- 51:32to do that. It's been in committee and will probably be presented to the
- 51:37full council next week now. Charleston City Council and Chad Robinson from Ward twenty
- 51:43was one of the ones that's really been behind this and he is going to
