- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Danish with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 59 already. I can't believe it. Lucas: I know. And today, we're going to describe things. Size, to be specific. Luna: Oh, like big and small? That sounds easy enough. Lucas: Exactly. Two very useful words: stor and lille. Luna: Stor. Lille. Lucas: Stor means big. Lille means small. Let's start with stor. Repeat after me: stor. Luna: Stor. Lucas: Good. Now lille: lille. Luna: Lille. Lucas: Perfect. Now let's put them in sentences. Remember our animals from earlier episodes? Hunden er stor. The dog is big. Luna: Hunden er stor. Lucas: And katten er lille. The cat is small. Luna: Katten er lille. Lucas: Let's do a quick practice. Imagine you have a big dog and a small cat. How would you say 'the dog is big'? Luna: Hunden er stor. Lucas: Yes! And 'the cat is small'? Luna: Katten er lille. Lucas: You've got it. Now let's use something else. Remember our furniture words? Et bord is a table. Et bord er stor. A table is big. Luna: Et bord er stor. Wait, is that right? I thought it might be 'stort' for 'et' words. Lucas: Oh, good catch. In Danish, adjectives change form depending on the gender of the noun. For 'en' words, we use 'stor' and 'lille'. For 'et' words, we use 'stort' and 'lille' – 'lille' stays the same. So for 'et bord', it's 'bordet er stort'. Luna: Ah, so 'bordet er stort'. Lucas: Exactly. And for a small table: 'bordet er lille'. Luna: Bordet er lille. Lucas: Let's do one more. Remember 'en seng' – a bed. Sengen er stor. The bed is big. Luna: Sengen er stor. Lucas: Or sengen er lille. Luna: Sengen er lille. Lucas: Great. Now let's have a tiny conversation. Imagine you're at a market and you see two things: a big apple and a small orange. Luna: Okay. Lucas: I'll point and say: 'Æblet er stort.' Then you say: 'Appelsinen er lille.' Ready? Luna: Ready. Lucas: Æblet er stort. Luna: Appelsinen er lille. Lucas: Perfect. Now let's swap. You say 'Æblet er stort' and I'll say 'Appelsinen er lille'. Luna: Æblet er stort. Lucas: Appelsinen er lille. See how easy that is? Luna: Yeah, I like it. So just to be clear, 'stor' and 'lille' are for 'en' words, and for 'et' words it's 'stort' and still 'lille'. Lucas: Exactly. One more example: 'huset er stort' – the house is big. 'Huset' is 'et' word. Luna: Huset er stort. And 'huset er lille'. Lucas: Right. Let's do a final round. I'll say a noun and you say if it's big or small. For example, 'en hund'. Luna: Hunden er stor. Lucas: En kat. Luna: Katten er lille. Lucas: Et bord. Luna: Bordet er stort? Or maybe lille? I'll say stort. Lucas: Bordet er stort works. Or bordet er lille. Both are fine. Luna: Okay, good. Lucas: And that's our episode. Two words: stor and lille. Use them with things you know. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. I feel like I can describe the world now. Lucas: That's the idea. Keep practicing with Fexingo, and see you next time. Luna: Farvel!
