- 0:18Speaker 1: Return to Glory podcast. Here bring me one of the
- 0:24Speaker 1: two episodes from Return to Glory following the huskers thirty
- 0:27Speaker 1: eight to twenty seven win over the Michigan State Spartans.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Austin Dak and myself will give you our normal recap
- 0:35Speaker 1: episode of the game that will be in the other
- 0:37Speaker 1: episode that is posted. This episode is going to be
- 0:41Speaker 1: a bit of a trial run here. It'll be a
- 0:44Speaker 1: new segment, a new episode called the Husker Lab. A
- 0:48Speaker 1: bit of background here, we all have that group chat,
- 0:52Speaker 1: the group that we just talk Husker sports, Husker football
- 0:56Speaker 1: constantly throughout the week, throughout the year.
- 1:00Speaker 2: And these three guys.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Or they may be a little bit older, they always
- 1:04Speaker 1: provide their strong opinions and thoughts and challenge the status
- 1:08Speaker 1: quo to say, with all of your thoughts and opinions
- 1:11Speaker 1: about Husker sports. So uh, with that being said, I'd
- 1:15Speaker 1: like to introduce Larry Zarbernikki, Arnie Serny and ben Essa
- 1:20Speaker 1: and the Husker Lab podcast.
- 1:43Speaker 3: Production too. I got I mean not much. I just
- 1:47Speaker 3: want to say a couple of things like, let me
- 1:49Speaker 3: give my glosses.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Hold on.
- 1:52Speaker 4: Old people, that's amazing. I'm the flipping oldest one by about.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Ten Lasses to Larry.
- 2:02Speaker 4: Yeah, Glass is on this guy though again five you're gonna.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Get to introduce yourself, Larry, Okay, that's all I really
- 2:11Speaker 2: want to you want to do that, that's it.
- 2:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:14Speaker 2: I have a little paragraph first though, that kind of
- 2:17Speaker 2: explains you know who we are. And then I'm gonna
- 2:19Speaker 2: ask Siren or Larry do you want to say anything
- 2:21Speaker 2: about yourself? So that makes sense, and Serny said he's
- 2:25Speaker 2: not saying anything.
- 2:30Speaker 3: Say whatever you want.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Okay, So you guys let me know when you're ready.
- 2:34Speaker 4: I'm ready.
- 2:36Speaker 3: I'm ready.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Okay. Welcome to the lab or as we want to
- 2:40Speaker 2: call it, the Old Bass Podcast. I'm your host, Ben,
- 2:43Speaker 2: sometimes known as E, and I'm here with cirn aka
- 2:46Speaker 2: the Pop and Larry, who most of you know as
- 2:49Speaker 2: Lars are. We're all over fifty and we have watched
- 2:52Speaker 2: most every Nebraska game in the past forty to fifty
- 2:54Speaker 2: years and have some insights that maybe will intrigue you all.
- 2:58Speaker 2: I was a diehard nebrass band and never missed snap
- 3:00Speaker 2: and buying. They supported whatever Tom did for many years,
- 3:03Speaker 2: but for the past twenties since we went five wide
- 3:05Speaker 2: at the Spring game. I'm probably one of the most
- 3:06Speaker 2: pestimistic fans in the state. Cirn, on the other hand,
- 3:10Speaker 2: has been on the other end for the past twenty
- 3:12Speaker 2: years and believes we'll win every game by twenty to
- 3:15Speaker 2: thirty points. Larry brings the most sanity to this as
- 3:19Speaker 2: a level headed fan who's seen the good and the
- 3:21Speaker 2: bad for the past ten years. He's wanted one thing,
- 3:25Speaker 2: a good offensive line. So, Cirn, Larzar, if you have
- 3:29Speaker 2: anything to say about yourselves before we begin with the.
- 3:32Speaker 3: Recaps, Cirn, you have something, you can go ahead, No,
- 3:37Speaker 3: you go first there. Yeah, so just a couple of things. Ben,
- 3:41Speaker 3: you hit on several of them already. But I guess
- 3:44Speaker 3: you could call this old guy takes on Husker football.
- 3:49Speaker 3: And all three of us grew up in our twenties
- 3:55Speaker 3: and thirties when the Huskers were in their heydays in
- 3:58Speaker 3: the nineties. And I think one thing. I don't know
- 4:03Speaker 3: if it's zaccurate or not, but you know, sometimes the
- 4:06Speaker 3: younger generation believes that, you know, all we want to
- 4:09Speaker 3: do is run the ball every play and you know,
- 4:13Speaker 3: three yards and a cloud of dust. And yes, we
- 4:17Speaker 3: did do a lot of that back then. But you know,
- 4:20Speaker 3: I think myself specifically, I don't care how we win games,
- 4:26Speaker 3: like if we need to throw it more, throw it more,
- 4:28Speaker 3: if we need to run it more, run it more.
- 4:30Speaker 3: But either type of success for Nebraska football, you can't
- 4:36Speaker 3: do it without a good offensive line. We were seeing
- 4:40Speaker 3: that a little bit. Now. I'm not going to great
- 4:43Speaker 3: detail here, but I think we've got a great quarterback,
- 4:46Speaker 3: and I think he can throw the ball really well.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Probably in our time of watching football, he's probably the
- 4:52Speaker 3: best thrower we've ever had at that position. And so fine,
- 4:56Speaker 3: take advantage of that and throw the ball a little
- 4:58Speaker 3: more if that's what we have to do to win games.
- 5:00Speaker 3: But man, teams are pinning their ears back and killing
- 5:04Speaker 3: us with stunts and different ways of blitzing, and and
- 5:08Speaker 3: it's a it's a learning process. I'm sure we'll figure
- 5:11Speaker 3: it out. But you know my point, I guess I
- 5:13Speaker 3: just want to make with all that is, even though
- 5:15Speaker 3: we're the older generation, you know, it's still about winning games.
- 5:21Speaker 3: And maybe today there are different ways to win games,
- 5:23Speaker 3: and uh, it doesn't have to be just run the
- 5:26Speaker 3: ball every play and and you know what some people
- 5:29Speaker 3: consider boring football, But you know that was just my
- 5:31Speaker 3: my initial thing that I wanted to start off with, so.
- 5:35Speaker 2: I love it. That's a great way of putting it.
- 5:38Speaker 2: And you're right, goes back to offensive line, which is
- 5:40Speaker 2: what you've wanted for how many years? And so that
- 5:44Speaker 2: is that is spot on take about kind of why
- 5:47Speaker 2: we're doing this and help out give our take.
- 5:51Speaker 4: Yeah, sir, well, I'll tell you what I agree with
- 5:55Speaker 4: a lot what Larry said. The only thing I add
- 5:58Speaker 4: to it is, it's not just offensive line. This line
- 6:01Speaker 4: play period. If you are and the Huskers are just
- 6:06Speaker 4: starting back, our lines are just starting back on getting
- 6:10Speaker 4: to what it was like in the nineties and the
- 6:12Speaker 4: eighties and the seventies. You've got to have a great
- 6:16Speaker 4: offensive line, but you also have to have a great
- 6:17Speaker 4: defensive line. I mean, you just watch videos from the
- 6:22Speaker 4: nineties and the eighties and the seventies and you just
- 6:24Speaker 4: see the d line just blowing up everybody else's offensive
- 6:31Speaker 4: lines and destroying them. I mean blitz I mean they're
- 6:35Speaker 4: not even blitzing, they're just running stunts stuff like that.
- 6:39Speaker 4: But when they did, they came in because almost all
- 6:44Speaker 4: of their nose guards and defensive tackles were being doubled,
- 6:48Speaker 4: and so the linebackers had a free flight right into
- 6:51Speaker 4: the quarterback. So that kind of stuff is what I
- 6:56Speaker 4: totally believe in. So in my mind, there is only
- 6:59Speaker 4: one to play football, and that is physical. The SEC
- 7:04Speaker 4: for all the years that they were a little bit
- 7:06Speaker 4: better than the Big Ten and everything else in the
- 7:09Speaker 4: same way, back in the day of the Big Eight
- 7:11Speaker 4: and even the early years of the Big Twelve, it
- 7:16Speaker 4: was they were the most physical leagues. They were the
- 7:20Speaker 4: most physical teams. I mean again, you think about again
- 7:24Speaker 4: in the nineties when again Osborne sometimes was literally a
- 7:30Speaker 4: prophet when he talked to the team about just wait,
- 7:34Speaker 4: they will give up in the third and the fourth quarters,
- 7:38Speaker 4: and they did. Why because you just keep pounding them.
- 7:42Speaker 4: I loved it when those guys, those offensive guys in
- 7:45Speaker 4: the nineties would tell the Kansas State guys and the
- 7:49Speaker 4: KU guys and Neil Clonbus State guys and they'll clone, hey,
- 7:52Speaker 4: we're running this play. No, no, we're running the same play.
- 7:55Speaker 4: Don't worry about it, and we're going to blow you up.
- 7:58Speaker 4: And that's why. That's what I absolutely love and cern that.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Worked when we were dominating enough on the line of
- 8:07Speaker 3: scrimmage that it didn't really matter if they knew what
- 8:10Speaker 3: we were running. We're a long ways from that right now.
- 8:15Speaker 3: We just are And it's almost like we have to
- 8:19Speaker 3: I don't know, call something that that confuses them and
- 8:22Speaker 3: hope to to they you know, they blitzed in the
- 8:25Speaker 3: wrong place, or we create create a whole for a
- 8:30Speaker 3: running back because they went through the wrong gap. That's
- 8:33Speaker 3: just where we are. I'd love to get some domination
- 8:36Speaker 3: back in that area, and we we just have. We
- 8:40Speaker 3: just have a lot of growth in that area. But hey,
- 8:42Speaker 3: one one more thing. I know this is mostly Husker football,
- 8:48Speaker 3: but I'm assuming any topics on the table. I just
- 8:52Speaker 3: want to give a shout out to that new Heiseel
- 8:56Speaker 3: kid from u C l A. And what a college
- 9:00Speaker 3: story that is. Like I watched after we came home,
- 9:04Speaker 3: you know clips on on X or whatever, and just
- 9:07Speaker 3: saw him and it was he was a kid coaching
- 9:13Speaker 3: a Division one story program right UCLA has some history
- 9:18Speaker 3: and the just the passion in his eyes and the
- 9:22Speaker 3: fun he was having. It was cool. Like we get
- 9:24Speaker 3: to watch some of the guys that have been coaching
- 9:27Speaker 3: forever and when they talk, you just see it's a
- 9:30Speaker 3: business and it's stressful and every little thing, you know,
- 9:34Speaker 3: gets to them. When he spoke, he just was on
- 9:36Speaker 3: cloud nine. And you know what, I thought, by the
- 9:40Speaker 3: end of the day to day, they ought to just
- 9:42Speaker 3: give him the freaking job, Like why not. I know,
- 9:44Speaker 3: he wasn't the he wasn't the interim head coach, but
- 9:46Speaker 3: he was the guy I think that did most of
- 9:48Speaker 3: the speaking, and he called all the plays, as I
- 9:50Speaker 3: understand it, for them, that was kind of his promotion.
- 9:53Speaker 3: But he's a son of a coach that's had a
- 9:58Speaker 3: lot of success in division and you don't like him,
- 10:05Speaker 3: and uh and and the other thing is kind of funny. Man,
- 10:09Speaker 3: he is a California kid, like he has his blonde hair. Yeah,
- 10:13Speaker 3: and but anyway, I just wanted to say, I think
- 10:17Speaker 3: we love Nebraska football, but there's a lot of things
- 10:20Speaker 3: outside of just Nebraska that are part of college football
- 10:23Speaker 3: that are so cool. And that was one of the
- 10:25Speaker 3: neatest things I thought yesterday.
- 10:27Speaker 2: It was really neat to see those four hundred fans
- 10:30Speaker 2: storm the field after the game. Legendary.
- 10:34Speaker 4: That was hilarious. You said that whoever sent that tweet
- 10:38Speaker 4: out or whatever today was absolutely hilarious about oh, this
- 10:42Speaker 4: is what it looks like when you're.
- 10:44Speaker 3: And you know what, and maybe maybe that's why he
- 10:46Speaker 3: didn't care because nobody else gave a ship. There wasn't
- 10:48Speaker 3: anybody in the stands. But again, whether you like new
- 10:52Speaker 3: Rick Newhuisl or not, his dad us to.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Play the guitar and take the guys down the river.
- 10:57Speaker 2: And you know, so it's a great story.
- 10:58Speaker 3: It's a great sure the father son thing. If you
- 11:01Speaker 3: guys saw any of the stuff of him in the
- 11:04Speaker 3: studio and they had been filming him during that end
- 11:07Speaker 3: of that game, and just to see him cheering for
- 11:11Speaker 3: his son and uh being excited about that, I don't know.
- 11:14Speaker 2: I just I'm glad you brought it up, Larry. That
- 11:17Speaker 2: was really neat. That's good.
- 11:18Speaker 4: That was good. That was good.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Good stuff about the defensive line, I keep telling people,
- 11:23Speaker 2: let me know, when we get a good rush end
- 11:25Speaker 2: a game, wrepper. So offensive defensive line, I keep I
- 11:29Speaker 2: kind of think that's kind of what us old guys
- 11:32Speaker 2: think is important in college football. Then you can put
- 11:34Speaker 2: any offense around it. And you know, we have a
- 11:36Speaker 2: pretty good secondary. But we'll get into all that. So
- 11:40Speaker 2: how about we each recap the game, what our takeaways
- 11:43Speaker 2: from it, kind of where we're at, and then we'll
- 11:45Speaker 2: move on from there and then we'll do our predictions
- 11:49Speaker 2: for next week and our predictions for the rest of
- 11:51Speaker 2: the year. So that's kind of what we'll do moving
- 11:53Speaker 2: forward here. So my first recap was I mean, boy
- 11:58Speaker 2: to talk about a bizarre game. It was, But after
- 12:03Speaker 2: looking at everything, I believe we're a top twenty five team.
- 12:06Speaker 2: That's who we are. I believe college football has no
- 12:10Speaker 2: great teams except maybe one or two, and with the
- 12:14Speaker 2: portal now, teams are going to look strange throughout the season.
- 12:18Speaker 2: AKA Penn State US from the first possession to the
- 12:22Speaker 2: second quarter to the fourth quarter and winning ugly, I
- 12:27Speaker 2: think is okay. I'm a big Chiefs fan. Everyone said,
- 12:31Speaker 2: why are you so unhappy last year after every Chiefs game,
- 12:34Speaker 2: I said, well, we're just horrendous on the offensive line.
- 12:36Speaker 2: And they said, wait, you're winning, you're winning, you're winning,
- 12:38Speaker 2: and I said that that's okay. There's going to come
- 12:41Speaker 2: a point though, where that we're going to get exposed,
- 12:43Speaker 2: and we did in the Super Bowl. So right now
- 12:45Speaker 2: with Nebraska football, that was a win. And I look
- 12:48Speaker 2: back at our ninety two and ninety three schedule. You know,
- 12:51Speaker 2: everyone thinks we beat everyone sixty to three. There was
- 12:54Speaker 2: a lot of close games when we were in the
- 12:57Speaker 2: early nineties even, and so people I think lose perspective
- 13:01Speaker 2: nowadays because they want it instantly to happen, and they
- 13:04Speaker 2: get frustrated because we look horrendous when we take three
- 13:08Speaker 2: sacks and it's fourth and forty okay, But then we
- 13:11Speaker 2: look really good for a possession, and so people's roller
- 13:14Speaker 2: coaster of emotions. I think they just unleash at all.
- 13:17Speaker 2: And maybe that's with the beer sales two at the game.
- 13:20Speaker 2: I don't know, but I had a lot of emotional
- 13:22Speaker 2: text people wanting to fire a role on the third
- 13:24Speaker 2: quarter and then saying how Grady was by the end
- 13:26Speaker 2: of the game, And I just think that's a little
- 13:28Speaker 2: bit Nebraska's mindset.
- 13:30Speaker 3: Now.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Now here's why I think we are a top twenty
- 13:33Speaker 2: five team. We have a great special teams, which is
- 13:36Speaker 2: kind of like in basketball having a team that makes
- 13:38Speaker 2: free throws so you're not going to beat yourself, or
- 13:41Speaker 2: in baseball having a good bullpen or a golfer that
- 13:43Speaker 2: has a good short game. As Larry said earlier, Dylan
- 13:47Speaker 2: is a great passing quarterback. Yes he's not the most
- 13:50Speaker 2: mobile guy, but he thinks he should win games. And boy,
- 13:55Speaker 2: if he gets a little bit of time, he can
- 13:56Speaker 2: make some plays, and then we have a schedule. I
- 13:59Speaker 2: think it sets up for us to be a top
- 14:01Speaker 2: twenty five team. I just think on paper, talent wise,
- 14:04Speaker 2: we're as good as every team besides USC and Penn State,
- 14:08Speaker 2: and I think our strengths on defense match up to theirs. Good.
- 14:12Speaker 2: So my takeaway from the game is, heck, we know
- 14:16Speaker 2: the offensive lines of disaster. We get frustrated, but to
- 14:19Speaker 2: win a game, we should be happy to win and
- 14:22Speaker 2: move on every week. So that's where I'm at after
- 14:24Speaker 2: that game.
- 14:26Speaker 4: Good sir, Well. I think a couple of things about
- 14:30Speaker 4: what you hit on is our offensive line certainly is weak.
- 14:36Speaker 4: But at the same time, part of the I forget
- 14:43Speaker 4: whoever developed the West Coast. But what's his name of
- 14:47Speaker 4: San Francisco, Oh Bill Walsh, Yeah, Bill Walsh. What he
- 14:52Speaker 4: always did was when he was playing a really good
- 14:57Speaker 4: defensive front, he just went to the short passing game.
- 15:00Speaker 4: And we don't really run it. We'll run short routes,
- 15:05Speaker 4: but we don't run a short passing game. What I
- 15:06Speaker 4: mean by that is it is literally no drop within
- 15:11Speaker 4: two seconds. Within one second, you're already throwing the ball.
- 15:14Speaker 4: You're running quick plants, you're running uh bleeds out the
- 15:18Speaker 4: up the sideline. You're doing quick things. And I think
- 15:23Speaker 4: that when they you have to change your game plan
- 15:28Speaker 4: as coaches, when you know that their defensive front is
- 15:32Speaker 4: better than our offensive front, you just run a quicker
- 15:34Speaker 4: If you're going to pass it, you're gonna run just
- 15:37Speaker 4: quicker pass plays, quick pass, quick passing game. You should
- 15:42Speaker 4: have a deeper passing game, and we don't really truly
- 15:45Speaker 4: have a quick passing game.
- 15:47Speaker 3: He tried to underd Yeah, how many times did we
- 15:51Speaker 3: throw deep yesterday?
- 15:53Speaker 4: Once? The yeah, the one. But it's still it's not
- 16:03Speaker 4: just that though either the other.
- 16:06Speaker 3: There's a reason we're not throwing deep.
- 16:08Speaker 4: Well, the other there is. I agree. The reason why
- 16:12Speaker 4: we don't throw deep right now in the last two
- 16:15Speaker 4: games is because the defensive fronts were better than what
- 16:18Speaker 4: we saw in the first three games. Well, and in
- 16:21Speaker 4: the Cincinnati game, we didn't throw deep because they were
- 16:24Speaker 4: playing deep too deep safeties. They weren't going to allow
- 16:27Speaker 4: us to throw deep. They're gonna allow us to throw intermediates,
- 16:30Speaker 4: They're gonna allow us to throw short. That's why we
- 16:32Speaker 4: threw short in that game, to throw deep.
- 16:35Speaker 2: To throw deep, what do you have to.
- 16:37Speaker 4: Have You got to have a four. You got to
- 16:40Speaker 4: have four four and a half seconds worth of time
- 16:43Speaker 4: to throw deep.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Okay, Soss Michigan, we could roll out three guys, they
- 16:48Speaker 2: only rush three. We could throw deep.
- 16:50Speaker 4: But we got to do something with that. But here's
- 16:53Speaker 4: the other part of it though, with our offensive line,
- 16:57Speaker 4: and that is on running plays. That's why I brought
- 17:01Speaker 4: up a question last night about physicality of running because
- 17:07Speaker 4: here's the big thing that I'm seeing. Part of it
- 17:10Speaker 4: is we don't have trust. Our running backs do not
- 17:15Speaker 4: trust our alignment. It's not so much there's themes there,
- 17:20Speaker 4: the difference between us and Michigan. For example, Michigan running
- 17:24Speaker 4: backs put their foot in the ground and explodes through
- 17:29Speaker 4: a sixth inch scene.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Hey, Sarry, real quick. You brought up physicality, and I
- 17:34Speaker 3: thought about this after the game because there were some others.
- 17:38Speaker 3: Jackson included was texting us about we gotta be more
- 17:41Speaker 3: physical than them this game. Right, we won the game.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Did we win the game because we were more physical
- 17:47Speaker 3: than them?
- 17:49Speaker 4: We were physical in the fourth court. Well, let's put
- 17:52Speaker 4: it away. I thought we were physical whenever we had
- 17:54Speaker 4: to win. Nope, there's only two scores out of the
- 17:59Speaker 4: fifty odd points. There's only two scores, one by us
- 18:03Speaker 4: and why by at the end of the third and
- 18:06Speaker 4: one by them at the end of the game.
- 18:11Speaker 3: Of us being more physical, them being more physical. I
- 18:14Speaker 3: think I feel like we won that game off of
- 18:17Speaker 3: finesse and just playmaking. Playmaking, like we made some plays.
- 18:21Speaker 3: We we freaking through a bubble screen, lost our shoe
- 18:25Speaker 3: and ran to the freaking end zone. That was a
- 18:27Speaker 3: play that was making the play. But we went We
- 18:32Speaker 3: had them. We had those guys ripping our freaking helmets
- 18:35Speaker 3: off our head, and.
- 18:38Speaker 2: He needs to strap that up better.
- 18:41Speaker 4: I thought that the player, no, no, no, don't even
- 18:46Speaker 4: talk about k State Holy Ship.
- 18:48Speaker 3: But on.
- 18:51Speaker 4: The run by Isaiah, the big thing that he did
- 18:56Speaker 4: was he put his foot in the ground and he exploded.
- 18:59Speaker 3: Under saying, certain, don't get off track. That's not it
- 19:02Speaker 3: wasn't getting that. I was bringing up toughness. That's not toughness.
- 19:05Speaker 2: That's clear. Hard on the play into the we ran hard.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Going into the win makes us less physical.
- 19:12Speaker 4: Well it we we just we weren't ever when our
- 19:15Speaker 4: offense was never on the field, because the team that
- 19:19Speaker 4: had the win had better offensive series, a.
- 19:24Speaker 2: Good offensive series we had?
- 19:26Speaker 4: We had how many offensive plays we have last night?
- 19:29Speaker 2: Well, we went thirty minutes without snapping it after we
- 19:32Speaker 2: blocked the punt and went up fourteen to nothing.
- 19:34Speaker 4: And right we ran fifty five plays the whole night.
- 19:39Speaker 4: Fifty five. That's bad. That's not good for.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Thirty eight points. Uh three, thirty eight points. I think
- 19:49Speaker 2: the points are more important than the plays. But I
- 19:52Speaker 2: get you. I get you. You want to wear people out.
- 19:54Speaker 2: But but we're not a running team, Arnie. We are.
- 19:57Speaker 2: We do it enough to try to be little balance,
- 20:00Speaker 2: but you just have to accept we are not in
- 20:02Speaker 2: the lineup run the ball like Michigan and do that.
- 20:06Speaker 4: But we need to We need to run more physical
- 20:09Speaker 4: between the tackles. What I don't like because I sit
- 20:13Speaker 4: in the end zone and all I ever see Emma
- 20:16Speaker 4: and other guys do is they just dance back and forth.
- 20:19Speaker 4: They just dance. They do not put their foot in
- 20:21Speaker 4: the ground and explode, Arnie.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Emmitt Johnson is like Derek Brown the way back in
- 20:26Speaker 2: the early nineties, but he doesn't have Calvin Jones with
- 20:29Speaker 2: the We had dal Dell last year to do that
- 20:32Speaker 2: hard running em that's just not his style.
- 20:35Speaker 4: He needs to do it though he's pretty He did.
- 20:38Speaker 4: He did on his last touchdown run. He exploded. There
- 20:43Speaker 4: was a small steam and he exploded through it and
- 20:46Speaker 4: then he got passed the linebackers and he saw and
- 20:49Speaker 4: he cut off to the right. Arnie ran, Arnie.
- 20:53Speaker 3: Are our running backs right now are doing the exact
- 20:56Speaker 3: same thing the last seven running backs we have had
- 20:59Speaker 3: at Nebraska. And you know why they dance, You know
- 21:02Speaker 3: why they juke around is because they know when they
- 21:04Speaker 3: get the ball, there's no freaking hole for them to
- 21:07Speaker 3: run through. They have to go find a seam and
- 21:09Speaker 3: bounce around and then go through the hole. You create
- 21:13Speaker 3: a freaking hole for them. What happened, sir? You create
- 21:16Speaker 3: a hole for them, and you'll see a running back
- 21:18Speaker 3: run hard through the hole and then hit somebody. Until
- 21:21Speaker 3: that happens, that's what our running backs are going to
- 21:23Speaker 3: look like.
- 21:23Speaker 4: Correct well, and I disagree with that because one in
- 21:29Speaker 4: the Big Ten, you can't dance around.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Again.
- 21:33Speaker 4: Their linebackers are going to also see after about a
- 21:37Speaker 4: second and a half, they also see the seam and
- 21:39Speaker 4: they fill the seam. I know, I think we're having
- 21:44Speaker 4: we have to explode when the time first getting engaged.
- 21:47Speaker 3: We're having a little bit of a chicken and an
- 21:49Speaker 3: egg conversation here, I think, I hope so. And what
- 21:53Speaker 3: that means is which one happens first, right Like, if
- 21:57Speaker 3: there is a hole, they don't dance aroun If there's
- 22:00Speaker 3: no hole, you're dancing around. So which one's got to
- 22:04Speaker 3: come first?
- 22:06Speaker 4: You gotta get a hole?
- 22:07Speaker 3: Yes, you do.
- 22:09Speaker 4: Yeah, And that's what I'm saying, is that.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Ardie, we're not going to this year, so we're gonna
- 22:14Speaker 2: have to accept Emmett dancing around a little bit. There's
- 22:16Speaker 2: nothing wrong with that. We're winning games.
- 22:19Speaker 4: I disagree with that.
- 22:21Speaker 2: Not gonna it's not gonna be your You've seen too
- 22:23Speaker 2: many eighties and nineties holes that you could run through
- 22:27Speaker 2: for eight yards or three yards at least.
- 22:29Speaker 4: No, no, no, no, no, yes no. Disagree with you
- 22:33Speaker 4: on that.
- 22:34Speaker 3: Okay, you could do it. Disagree that you could do it.
- 22:37Speaker 4: You can explode. If you explode, playing and something.
- 22:41Speaker 2: He's not that type of back. He will get hurt
- 22:44Speaker 2: trying to do that. He has to be cautious how
- 22:46Speaker 2: many hits he's taken. Who's our backup running back naming?
- 22:52Speaker 4: I don't care who it is exactly exactly. I don't
- 22:56Speaker 4: care who it is. So if he's gonna if he's
- 22:58Speaker 4: gonna rush, but he's gotta uh, he's got to rush.
- 23:04Speaker 4: He saw what Well figure this out too. Why did
- 23:06Speaker 4: Philly lose today because.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Jogger was there? But that's side the point.
- 23:11Speaker 4: He ran five times. They're all pro running back round
- 23:16Speaker 4: five times. Okay, I'm sorry he ran five in the
- 23:20Speaker 4: first half. He ran one more time in the second half.
- 23:22Speaker 2: Okay, so your point, you got to run him. But correct,
- 23:27Speaker 2: that's an NFL team. We're talking Nebraska. We know our limitations,
- 23:30Speaker 2: we know where we're at. Arnie. Was Michigan State tired
- 23:34Speaker 2: in the fourth quarter?
- 23:35Speaker 3: Hey, fix your phone? Fix your phone?
- 23:37Speaker 2: Cern? Yeah? Was their defense tired in the fourth quarter? Arnie? Right,
- 23:46Speaker 2: because we we allowed him to sack us enough times
- 23:48Speaker 2: in the first half. It wore them out.
- 23:51Speaker 4: You know. Al So you're saying we should no, no, no.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Yesterday when I when I set you that, you you said, yeah,
- 23:58Speaker 2: they were panting, they were you know, we were physical enough.
- 24:04Speaker 4: Uh, we just need to do stuff.
- 24:06Speaker 3: Okay, Okay, yeah, I won't be too long here so
- 24:12Speaker 3: we can move on the next topic. But you were
- 24:14Speaker 3: talking Ben about receiving lots of texts from people after
- 24:19Speaker 3: the game, between during the games, during the game, and
- 24:23Speaker 3: you know what I was probably I was probably one
- 24:25Speaker 3: of them. I wasn't too happy. And what's interesting is,
- 24:30Speaker 3: you know we text a lot during the week about games.
- 24:34Speaker 3: I'm usually the voice of reason. I'm telling you guys,
- 24:37Speaker 3: calm down. And there's a there's a little problem going
- 24:41Speaker 3: on now that Nebraska sells alcohol games is that I
- 24:47Speaker 3: think I think that doesn't help any Like, you get
- 24:49Speaker 3: a couple of beers in you, and you get a
- 24:51Speaker 3: little bit more pissy, and I don't I don't get wasted.
- 24:54Speaker 3: I just have a few during the game, and uh,
- 24:59Speaker 3: you know, uh the point in the game that uh,
- 25:06Speaker 3: I felt like I was at my worst. If you
- 25:09Speaker 3: remember in the second quarter when we were up fourteen
- 25:12Speaker 3: to seven and we had that I don't know how
- 25:14Speaker 3: far was it Barney had the punt return or who
- 25:18Speaker 3: had the punt return for about sixty yards down to
- 25:20Speaker 3: their twenty barnary.
- 25:23Speaker 4: Yeah, fifty that went down there.
- 25:27Speaker 2: And it was later though, because it was coming out.
- 25:29Speaker 3: And we got sacked three We got sacked three times
- 25:31Speaker 3: in a row basically, and then and and so that possession.
- 25:35Speaker 3: All have a bad snap in there, but that but
- 25:40Speaker 3: our fans would.
- 25:40Speaker 2: Tell you it shouldn't have been a penalty on them
- 25:42Speaker 2: for ripping his helmet off.
- 25:43Speaker 3: But anyway, Yeah, and then I think they got the
- 25:47Speaker 3: ball back and a player too. They threw an interception
- 25:49Speaker 3: to us and we got to it. We got we
- 25:51Speaker 3: got the ball back in the back not the same place,
- 25:53Speaker 3: so we got a second chance, we got a second dance. Yep,
- 25:57Speaker 3: what happened. We got sacked again and lost twenty thirty yards.
- 26:01Speaker 3: And I was just I don't understand, like why that
- 26:07Speaker 3: happens and why there's such a breakdown at that point
- 26:10Speaker 3: in the game. Because here here's what I'm a believer
- 26:12Speaker 3: of it. Again, I'll go back to this a little bit.
- 26:14Speaker 4: I heard.
- 26:17Speaker 3: Penn State's coach named Mind Franklin talking about what happened
- 26:23Speaker 3: to them at UCLA, and he specifically mentioned it's snowballed
- 26:29Speaker 3: on him early. Okay, they got scored on. UCLA put
- 26:34Speaker 3: together some plays that got in the end. I didn't
- 26:35Speaker 3: watch the game. I'm just going off of what I heard. Yeah,
- 26:38Speaker 3: scored on them. Okay, great, guys, we're all right this
- 26:41Speaker 3: this Just play your game. Well, they on side kicked
- 26:45Speaker 3: it and yes, and Penn State wasn't even near the
- 26:49Speaker 3: God Name ball like so all of a sudden, everybody's
- 26:53Speaker 3: questioning themselves about, oh shit, we didn't prepare for this game,
- 26:57Speaker 3: like they've got our number. And from there it was
- 26:59Speaker 3: a dogfight. And I am a believer when a game's over. Michigan,
- 27:05Speaker 3: we lost, but I'll go back to certain points in
- 27:07Speaker 3: that game and go, if this would have went this direction,
- 27:10Speaker 3: that game would have had a totally different outcome. And
- 27:13Speaker 3: Penn State and UCLA is an example of that. Yeah,
- 27:18Speaker 3: they could play ten more times. I don't think UCLA
- 27:21Speaker 3: is winning like they aren't gonna catch They aren't going
- 27:23Speaker 3: to catch them off guard like that. But my point
- 27:25Speaker 3: is when you're up fourteen to seven, Yeah, they scored
- 27:29Speaker 3: once on us, but you know what, guys, regroup, get
- 27:31Speaker 3: your shit together, go put it back in the end
- 27:33Speaker 3: zone and go up twenty one to seven. Maybe intercept
- 27:36Speaker 3: the next ball and go up twenty eight to seven.
- 27:39Speaker 3: It's a blowout. The game's over.
- 27:41Speaker 2: And that's the frustrating part with Nebraska fans right now,
- 27:45Speaker 2: they see that could potentially happen. And so I got
- 27:47Speaker 2: text from Joel Bergerman, who's a big run the ball guy,
- 27:50Speaker 2: and he said, because of this philosophy where we get
- 27:53Speaker 2: a turnover and we throw through a throw and take
- 27:55Speaker 2: three straight sacks, that is the part Nebraska fans long
- 27:59Speaker 2: term or saying, Okay, we're winning the game, but what's
- 28:03Speaker 2: the hope at the end, so we can get blown
- 28:06Speaker 2: out by someone eventually people are worried about. The philosophy
- 28:09Speaker 2: goes back to Arnie's physicality too. Run between the attackers,
- 28:13Speaker 2: but not just running the ball. But when you get
- 28:15Speaker 2: a turnover, do you have to take three straight sacks
- 28:18Speaker 2: and then get it back and again not run it exactly?
- 28:22Speaker 5: And so I guess that's that's my reasons.
- 28:26Speaker 3: Other than other than after sleeping on it after the
- 28:30Speaker 3: alcohol war off, I'm back to a little bit more
- 28:33Speaker 3: of the voice or reason and that we are absolutely
- 28:36Speaker 3: a better football team, and we're the better football team
- 28:38Speaker 3: in many phases of the game. Yes, we may not
- 28:41Speaker 3: have to be a dominant a dominant offensive line because
- 28:46Speaker 3: we have other things we're doing that are helping us
- 28:48Speaker 3: win football games. And not every phase of the game
- 28:51Speaker 3: comes along together at the same time and is a
- 28:53Speaker 3: perfect picture of college football, except for the one team
- 28:58Speaker 3: in the nineties. We all know who that is. Yeah,
- 29:00Speaker 3: but that doesn't happen very often. So we we we're
- 29:05Speaker 3: all right. I think we're good enough to beat a
- 29:07Speaker 3: lot of the teams on our schedule. Could someone in
- 29:10Speaker 3: that exact scenario sneak up on us and beat us? Yes,
- 29:13Speaker 3: that probably is going to happen to us. We're gonna
- 29:16Speaker 3: get beat by a team like that somewhere this year.
- 29:18Speaker 3: But no, maybe we won't.
- 29:21Speaker 2: Maybe maybe we'll find a way to win those games
- 29:24Speaker 2: ugly like the Chiefs did last year.
- 29:26Speaker 4: And and I agree.
- 29:28Speaker 2: But I think that's where we need to enjoy it
- 29:32Speaker 2: a little bit, which I haven't for twenty years.
- 29:34Speaker 3: Yep.
- 29:34Speaker 2: And it's to the point now it's like, you know what,
- 29:36Speaker 2: be happy we won to be.
- 29:38Speaker 4: Happy we won the game, right, And again that's why
- 29:42Speaker 4: that's the only reason why I brought up if you
- 29:45Speaker 4: don't have a great offensive line, then go to a
- 29:47Speaker 4: quicker path game. And we don't do it. And that's
- 29:52Speaker 4: what I was a little disppointed after the Michigan game.
- 29:54Speaker 4: I just assumed that we would come in and be
- 29:57Speaker 4: running quick plans a hard I mean, yeah, are.
- 30:02Speaker 2: You sure we're not, Arnie? Are you sure Dane is
- 30:05Speaker 2: not doing that.
- 30:07Speaker 4: I don't see. I didn't see us running much of
- 30:09Speaker 4: that at all. There was how many times he was
- 30:12Speaker 4: getting sacked and got and receivers hadn't even turned around yet.
- 30:16Speaker 2: But there were times that were receivers open to he
- 30:18Speaker 2: didn't see them.
- 30:20Speaker 4: I agree with that, and that's part of that was
- 30:23Speaker 4: he was very uncomfortable. I agree with that.
- 30:24Speaker 2: It's going to be all year.
- 30:27Speaker 3: And I thought about this.
- 30:28Speaker 2: Too, how pat was That's how Dylan's gonna be.
- 30:31Speaker 3: One thing I wanted to add Sernie, And I'll say
- 30:33Speaker 3: this with the caveat that I'm no expert at coaching,
- 30:36Speaker 3: but my belief is that when somebody blitzes and sends
- 30:42Speaker 3: extra guys to get to you, there are all kinds
- 30:45Speaker 3: of things open in the short routes slants because there's
- 30:48Speaker 3: no linebacker in there to potentially pick it off. It
- 30:50Speaker 3: is one on one. You cannot guard somebody one on
- 30:53Speaker 3: one five to seven yards because they're playing off of you.
- 30:56Speaker 3: But when the defense is getting to your quarterback with
- 30:59Speaker 3: no extra guys, it doesn't automatically mean that the short
- 31:03Speaker 3: game is there for you, because because if you want
- 31:07Speaker 3: to run that slant there's still two linebackers sitting in
- 31:09Speaker 3: those gaps and that are ready to pick that ball off.
- 31:11Speaker 3: You can't throw that pass that's valid. That's That's just
- 31:15Speaker 3: something I thought about the other day because I likewise
- 31:18Speaker 3: cern was like Jesus Christ, like, can't we just throw
- 31:20Speaker 3: some quick routes if they're getting to us? But as
- 31:22Speaker 3: I watched how many people they were Michigan and Michigan
- 31:25Speaker 3: State are bringing, they're not bringing any extra guys, but
- 31:29Speaker 3: they're stunning the crap out of things, like they are
- 31:31Speaker 3: going left right, coming around the ends right, and they're
- 31:35Speaker 3: they're bull rushing us, like they're just literally bull rushing us,
- 31:38Speaker 3: is what they're doing, and just knocking us backwards.
- 31:41Speaker 2: So after seeing this a year ago, and I'm gonna
- 31:44Speaker 2: bring up my chiefs again. They rolled the homes out more.
- 31:46Speaker 2: They will start rolling Dylan out more. They will run
- 31:49Speaker 2: a few more screens and then some draws. That's what's
- 31:52Speaker 2: gonna happen. And you just you gotta you gotta be
- 31:54Speaker 2: you get accept we're gonna take three to five sacks.
- 31:57Speaker 2: And the good thing is Dylan's at least not taking
- 31:59Speaker 2: sacks where they knock the ball out of his hands.
- 32:01Speaker 2: And its scooped and scores. He's used to taking sacks
- 32:04Speaker 2: now where he knows how to take them. And I
- 32:07Speaker 2: thought he tried to scramble early like we wanted to.
- 32:09Speaker 2: He did a good job with that.
- 32:11Speaker 3: Well, we shouldn't be worried about him getting hurt, right
- 32:13Speaker 3: because because we got a better quarterback back, we got
- 32:17Speaker 3: a better backup than our starter.
- 32:18Speaker 4: Right.
- 32:18Speaker 2: People think that that's all the gas station in Auburn,
- 32:22Speaker 2: that that discussion was going on. Yes, we yeah. And
- 32:28Speaker 2: you know the other thing I was going to mention
- 32:30Speaker 2: on us not criticizing, but analyzing the players and the coaches.
- 32:34Speaker 2: All of those people are getting paid a lot of money. Okay,
- 32:38Speaker 2: So I don't feel sorry for Franklin. He's gonna get
- 32:41Speaker 2: fifty six million if they fire him. Riola, It's okay
- 32:45Speaker 2: to be critical of him sometimes he's getting his money.
- 32:47Speaker 3: So that wasn't That wasn't the That wasn't caller Ronda
- 32:52Speaker 3: that called in last night. Oh she was. She was
- 32:55Speaker 3: feeling sorry for the eighteen nineteen year old kids. I
- 32:59Speaker 3: don't know if you heard her, but it's maybe. I
- 33:02Speaker 3: don't know, but that was her point. She was like,
- 33:05Speaker 3: stop stop beating up these eighteen nineteen year old kids.
- 33:09Speaker 3: They're just too young. And actually Jeremiah Searles I think
- 33:14Speaker 3: was the host, he said her straight. He was like,
- 33:17Speaker 3: I'm sorry, I'm sorry to tell you these eighteen and
- 33:21Speaker 3: nineteen year old kids are getting paid good money. And
- 33:23Speaker 3: he was very clear in that she didn't. She didn't,
- 33:26Speaker 3: she didn't like that.
- 33:27Speaker 2: Okay, well that that was cleared.
- 33:30Speaker 4: Up for her. Hey, but Eearles has a great I mean,
- 33:34Speaker 4: that's an obvious point. If you're a multi millionaire, we
- 33:37Speaker 4: can chew your ass.
- 33:40Speaker 2: And you do it anyway, aren't even if they're not.
- 33:42Speaker 2: We've seen that over the years.
- 33:44Speaker 4: Okay, well yeah, yeah, yeah, that's okay because their parents
- 33:47Speaker 4: love me.
- 33:48Speaker 2: Moving on here before the storm hits and we're old
- 33:52Speaker 2: and we watch radar and stuff like that.
- 33:53Speaker 3: So I can't I can't wait. I can't wait.
- 33:56Speaker 2: I know. So you guys are going with Hunter to
- 34:00Speaker 2: Maryland this week to the game. Yeah, and Sarney was
- 34:03Speaker 2: backing his bag last night. He sent hunterd a picture
- 34:05Speaker 2: of his bag being packed already. So a lot of
- 34:07Speaker 2: excitement here. So we need predictions for next week, and
- 34:10Speaker 2: I'll go last. I'll let Sarney start out with his
- 34:14Speaker 2: prediction for the Maryland Nebraska game out in Maryland.
- 34:18Speaker 4: I think it's going to be a little bit tighter
- 34:20Speaker 4: than any game that would be at home. So I'm
- 34:23Speaker 4: going to call this one about oh probably twenty four
- 34:26Speaker 4: to seventeen, twenty four to twenty one right in that area.
- 34:30Speaker 4: Who's going to win Huskers all the Oh yeah, sorry,
- 34:33Speaker 4: they're better, they're better.
- 34:35Speaker 2: Okay, we're going to see anything different on offense. Sorry
- 34:38Speaker 2: that you want.
- 34:40Speaker 4: I think they're going to keep tweaking it. I think
- 34:43Speaker 4: that every game they're going to tweak it. And Maryland's
- 34:47Speaker 4: supposed to have a really good defense, that's actually their strength.
- 34:50Speaker 4: They have that freshman quarterback. And I well, I mean
- 34:55Speaker 4: going back real quick to the Michigan's Day game. The
- 34:57Speaker 4: good thing about at least fact we had five, they
- 35:02Speaker 4: had five, so that that negated everything. So that may
- 35:08Speaker 4: that if it could have been five zero, we could
- 35:13Speaker 4: have lost the game.
- 35:14Speaker 2: Okay.
- 35:16Speaker 4: And I think we're gonna do the same thing to Washington.
- 35:20Speaker 4: I think that's the name Elik Washington or something like that.
- 35:23Speaker 4: We're going to we're gonna blitz him. We're gonna send
- 35:25Speaker 4: people after him now where he's going to have a
- 35:29Speaker 4: hell of a game for us. He's coming on.
- 35:32Speaker 2: He's coming on.
- 35:33Speaker 4: So I agree, I think that. I mean, and I'm
- 35:36Speaker 4: really looking when I say twenty four or twenty four seventeen,
- 35:39Speaker 4: I'm almost doing worst case scenario, kind of almost like
- 35:42Speaker 4: what their game was this past week. They're up twenty
- 35:45Speaker 4: to zero and then they lose twenty four to twenty.
- 35:47Speaker 4: I mean, it could be something where they score early,
- 35:52Speaker 4: some flub flub happens, but we'll win.
- 35:56Speaker 2: Okay, good Larry.
- 35:59Speaker 3: Oh wow. First of all, admittedly, I don't know crap
- 36:04Speaker 3: about Maryland. I haven't seen I haven't seen a down.
- 36:09Speaker 3: I've seen scores. They obviously have been playing fairly well.
- 36:19Speaker 3: My biggest concern is we haven't yet been on the road.
- 36:27Speaker 3: I mean a great point Kansas City was not on
- 36:31Speaker 3: the road home game, and not only I would feel
- 36:36Speaker 3: better if we were on the road, playing almost in
- 36:38Speaker 3: a hostile in our environment where there were a lot
- 36:41Speaker 3: of fans there. I think it's gonna be kind of
- 36:43Speaker 3: like hole hummish from a now. Now, maybe they'll draw
- 36:47Speaker 3: some more fans since they're nearly rated and doing okay,
- 36:50Speaker 3: But I haven't heard that. The Maryland stadium is kind
- 36:55Speaker 3: of like, you know, the epicenter of college football. It's
- 36:58Speaker 3: it's kind of rab and. Yeah, they come watch their team,
- 37:03Speaker 3: but I don't think they get too crazy. Uh, I'm
- 37:06Speaker 3: a little concerned with how we're going to handle that.
- 37:07Speaker 3: I guess what are they saying, Are we the youngest
- 37:12Speaker 3: team in the Big Ten?
- 37:14Speaker 2: Yes?
- 37:14Speaker 3: Yes, youngest team? Right, so there isn't a lot of
- 37:18Speaker 3: experience there with these kinds of situations. And uh, you
- 37:24Speaker 3: know the line what they're saying, it's about were favored
- 37:26Speaker 3: by six points or something like that. I think, gosh,
- 37:30Speaker 3: the last thing is Hunter's going with us and.
- 37:34Speaker 2: Two and no three and fifteen three and fifteen.
- 37:38Speaker 3: Career road career road record.
- 37:42Speaker 2: We're a game, was a home game, So we're going.
- 37:44Speaker 4: To rap him. We're going to wrap him in plastic
- 37:47Speaker 4: rap so he doesn't get bounced round too badly. Hunter's
- 37:53Speaker 4: gonna be Yeah, Hunter's gonna be wrapped in plastic rap.
- 37:56Speaker 3: When I look at you, guys aren't gonna like me.
- 37:59Speaker 3: But when I look at the schedule and think about
- 38:03Speaker 3: and I think this is towards the end, then you're
- 38:04Speaker 3: gonna ask how the rest of Yeah, Yeah, for a
- 38:06Speaker 3: first I want I think I just think some one
- 38:10Speaker 3: of these two road games coming up, we're going to
- 38:12Speaker 3: falter and lose.
- 38:13Speaker 4: I just what happened to your phone? La swipe it?
- 38:21Speaker 2: He said we're gonna lose, and he has vanished. So, sir,
- 38:27Speaker 2: do you think the crowd will be affected by the
- 38:28Speaker 2: government government shutdown?
- 38:31Speaker 4: Uh, we can't go there, Sorry, sir, No, don't answer that.
- 38:35Speaker 4: I got an email today that said.
- 38:37Speaker 2: That most of this show full responsibility for that question.
- 38:43Speaker 4: They said the trap. They said the travel could get bad.
- 38:47Speaker 4: So I'm worried a little bit. I'm traveling the next
- 38:49Speaker 4: two weekends, going to Maryland this weekend and the following weekend.
- 38:53Speaker 4: I'm going to Phoenix to watch the packers. And I
- 38:58Speaker 4: guarantee it if if I lose my thing, I that
- 39:02Speaker 4: that federal government is going to have to have a
- 39:04Speaker 4: new thing thinking about.
- 39:06Speaker 2: Okay, so Larry has vanished off our zoom. He's in
- 39:09Speaker 2: the waiting room on zoom. So anyway, maybe he can
- 39:11Speaker 2: hear us, maybe he can't. But that happens when you know,
- 39:14Speaker 2: he get us old, he's.
- 39:16Speaker 4: In the hunter. Get back on.
- 39:18Speaker 2: Okay, here we go. Larry's back. Okay, good deal, he
- 39:21Speaker 2: turn it.
- 39:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I got I must have the cheap version of zoom.
- 39:28Speaker 3: I had a time limit happened, so but a thing. Yeah,
- 39:33Speaker 3: so I don't know if you let me finish, which
- 39:35Speaker 3: is yeah, reprediction I I I don't think it's going
- 39:40Speaker 3: to be in Minnesota on the road. I think this
- 39:42Speaker 3: is the game we might we might lose. I got
- 39:45Speaker 3: we lose on a last second from goal twenty seven
- 39:47Speaker 3: to twenty four.
- 39:48Speaker 2: Okay, you know what that's. That's from the levelheaded Larry.
- 39:55Speaker 2: I have this winning thirty one to thirty on block
- 40:00Speaker 2: off field goal, them dropping a snap, them missing a
- 40:04Speaker 2: field goal, or something bizarre happens at the end of
- 40:06Speaker 2: the game, just like all the Chiefs games last year.
- 40:08Speaker 2: So I have a winning on a crazy play at
- 40:11Speaker 2: the end thirty one to third. It should be fun
- 40:14Speaker 2: though to thirty kickoff. I think you guys will be there.
- 40:17Speaker 4: So three out there for us.
- 40:19Speaker 2: Thanks Harry. It's always fun to get the certain videos
- 40:23Speaker 2: if we can get them on the podcast somehow of
- 40:25Speaker 2: him at games. That's always worth it.
- 40:27Speaker 4: So I'll question boys the.
- 40:31Speaker 2: Final question here predictions for the rest of the year.
- 40:34Speaker 2: So from now until the end, what's your win loss approximate?
- 40:40Speaker 2: Doesn't have to be exact, and then who might we
- 40:42Speaker 2: slip up to or how do you get to that number?
- 40:46Speaker 2: And what's going to happen for the remainder of the year,
- 40:48Speaker 2: since we won't be on for maybe four or five
- 40:51Speaker 2: weeks or maybe never again.
- 40:52Speaker 3: We'll see. Yeah, there you go first. Yeah, so I
- 40:57Speaker 3: already got one loss coming up here that two games.
- 41:00Speaker 3: I think we're gonna farewell against Northwestern. I also think
- 41:08Speaker 3: I like US beating USC at home. I sure hope
- 41:13Speaker 3: the UCLA hasn't figured something out. I'm not too worried
- 41:16Speaker 3: about him out there.
- 41:17Speaker 2: But the quarterback at five touchdowns, I think three of
- 41:20Speaker 2: them running the Tennessee transfer is really talented and they
- 41:23Speaker 2: just unleashed team and said go play, So anyway that
- 41:26Speaker 2: could be. We'll see on that one.
- 41:27Speaker 3: Okay, Penn State is going to be a tough place
- 41:30Speaker 3: to win no matter what, even if they aren't ranked anymore.
- 41:33Speaker 3: That's just it's going to be tough. I just don't
- 41:35Speaker 3: see US los into Iowa at home at the end
- 41:37Speaker 3: of the year, so that means two more losses. I'd
- 41:42Speaker 3: say nine to three. That's my prediction.
- 41:44Speaker 2: I like it, sir, well.
- 41:48Speaker 4: Just after this past weekend, I mean a couple of
- 41:50Speaker 4: things I'm thinking about. One, that's why I think Maryland
- 41:54Speaker 4: is going to be a tough game. Part of it
- 41:56Speaker 4: as the loss, I think they're going to be really,
- 41:58Speaker 4: really pissed. And but also that kind of tells me
- 42:03Speaker 4: that USC uh Illinois just out pounded them. Penn State.
- 42:12Speaker 4: They could spiral now, they could just firl. They could
- 42:16Speaker 4: they because they they have Indiana Indiana and with Ohio
- 42:20Speaker 4: State coming up. I believe next two weeks something like that,
- 42:24Speaker 4: before long before they play US. I mean they could
- 42:26Speaker 4: they could end up having three or four losses before
- 42:30Speaker 4: they play US. I think they could spiral. So I'm
- 42:34Speaker 4: going right now just thinking, and I'm not gonna be
- 42:37Speaker 4: overly optimistic, but I believe ten and two. I think
- 42:40Speaker 4: we're gonna lose one. I'm not sure who it's, who
- 42:44Speaker 4: it is in my mind, it could. I think, like
- 42:47Speaker 4: I said, I believe we're gonna beleave Maryland. But I
- 42:50Speaker 4: think the Minnesota game on a Friday night is always
- 42:53Speaker 4: going to be tough, and then USC I think could
- 42:57Speaker 4: be tough, and then obviously Penn State. But I only
- 43:01Speaker 4: see us losing one of those three games.
- 43:03Speaker 2: So would that get us in the playoffs? Start.
- 43:07Speaker 4: I don't think it will. I don't think it will.
- 43:10Speaker 4: It all depends on who we lose to. If we
- 43:13Speaker 4: let's put this play. If we lose to like Pence,
- 43:15Speaker 4: or if we beat Penn State and Southern cal but
- 43:18Speaker 4: lose to Minnesota, our losses are not going to be
- 43:23Speaker 4: I mean, our best loss is going to be Michigan,
- 43:26Speaker 4: and Michigan they're not picked to make the playoffs right now,
- 43:31Speaker 4: they're looking Minnesota would even be worse. So we won't
- 43:37Speaker 4: even be in the top sixteen or eighteen anyway, So
- 43:41Speaker 4: we if we lose to Minnesota, we have no chance.
- 43:47Speaker 4: So I just thought, I don't think just because of
- 43:50Speaker 4: how our schedule is. If we're not losing to Minnesota,
- 43:58Speaker 4: that was sorry.
- 43:59Speaker 2: I've watched it. If we lose to Minnesota, we are.
- 44:02Speaker 3: Yeah. So it's it's eleven and one in playoffs. In right,
- 44:06Speaker 3: eleven and one playoffs, I believe they can they play.
- 44:08Speaker 2: Okay, Artie, would you be okay with that if we
- 44:11Speaker 2: went to the playoffs and lost forty eight to three?
- 44:18Speaker 2: How would you feel if we made the playoffs and
- 44:20Speaker 2: then we lost in the playoffs forty eight to three
- 44:22Speaker 2: and just got embarrassed? How would.
- 44:27Speaker 4: I won't like that game, but I would be pleased
- 44:29Speaker 4: with the season. Yeah, okay, because it would be at
- 44:33Speaker 4: least if we end up like twelve and two or
- 44:39Speaker 4: eleven and three, I'll be pretty pleased. I don't want
- 44:43Speaker 4: to get blown out. I don't believe we will. But
- 44:47Speaker 4: that's what happened last year. Think of all those first
- 44:50Speaker 4: round games. Yeah, hell, two weeks to prepare and they
- 44:53Speaker 4: you know, well, and then what every team that got
- 44:57Speaker 4: to buy lost in the Semis? Every team I got
- 45:01Speaker 4: to buy lost in the Semis. So if we somehow
- 45:05Speaker 4: find a way to like hit a twelve five game
- 45:10Speaker 4: and win it, because that's what it would be, I think, right, Yeah,
- 45:13Speaker 4: twelve five. If we're a twelve five, win it. So
- 45:17Speaker 4: when we playoff, kick the so.
- 45:21Speaker 2: So one of the things we need to do is
- 45:25Speaker 2: spending a brask of football like we do Nebraska basketball,
- 45:28Speaker 2: where we are just happy at heck to win the game.
- 45:31Speaker 2: We don't spend a ton of time over analyzing things.
- 45:35Speaker 2: We know what we're good at, we know what we're
- 45:36Speaker 2: not good at, and all we want to do is
- 45:38Speaker 2: make the tournament and give ourselves a chance to win
- 45:40Speaker 2: a game. Are you okay thinking that way with Nebraska
- 45:44Speaker 2: football right now.
- 45:47Speaker 4: I think it would be a step forward making the
- 45:49Speaker 4: playoff period. Just making the playoff would be a huge
- 45:53Speaker 4: step forward, yep, because we just haven't. I mean when
- 45:58Speaker 4: you think about last year is our first bowl game
- 46:00Speaker 4: and what fifteen years.
- 46:02Speaker 2: But we had when we canceled it to go deer
- 46:04Speaker 2: hunting though, I think, or something for us turn one
- 46:07Speaker 2: down during COVID.
- 46:09Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's right, Larry.
- 46:12Speaker 2: Would you be okay with that if we could slip
- 46:14Speaker 2: into the playoffs because everyone's losing and everyone's just a disaster. Besides,
- 46:18Speaker 2: you know, we just keep finding weird ways to win,
- 46:21Speaker 2: and we get in the playoffs. I'm just being total
- 46:23Speaker 2: hypothetical here. Yeah, and we get beat forty eight to three.
- 46:27Speaker 3: Absolutely, we've been beat, Ben, We've been beat like that
- 46:32Speaker 3: how many times in the last twenty years, Like I
- 46:36Speaker 3: set us back. It would suck to lose that game
- 46:39Speaker 3: like that. But if that happened. But to get their
- 46:42Speaker 3: means we have really improved. We have to get there,
- 46:48Speaker 3: means we have really done some things to improve. If
- 46:51Speaker 3: that moment is too big for us because we're a
- 46:54Speaker 3: bunch of young kids, you know, yeah, well.
- 46:57Speaker 2: Because we get exposed finally by a really good team.
- 47:00Speaker 3: And we get more exposed than we already are in
- 47:02Speaker 3: some areas. Then we just gotta go back to the
- 47:05Speaker 3: drawing board.
- 47:05Speaker 4: Yeah, well take those positions. I mean, yeah, that in
- 47:11Speaker 4: the last twenty years. But those were to like teams
- 47:14Speaker 4: that weren't all that great. The Baylors, the they blew
- 47:18Speaker 4: us out. Uh, Texas Tech.
- 47:19Speaker 2: I did Texas Tech.
- 47:21Speaker 4: Did you know what I'm saying. They weren't great teams,
- 47:24Speaker 4: They weren't phenomenal.
- 47:26Speaker 2: There was still Callahan. That's a whole different.
- 47:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I know it, I know it, I know it.
- 47:29Speaker 4: I'm just saying forty eight to three and we get
- 47:33Speaker 4: pist pounded by I don't know, Georgia or somebody. Yeah,
- 47:38Speaker 4: at least we know they're good.
- 47:40Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, And that's a whole other topic. Who's actually good?
- 47:43Speaker 2: We know they're decent, they're good, They're good.
- 47:45Speaker 3: Sorry, and hopefully we get another chance to do this
- 47:48Speaker 3: because there's so many topics to talk about. But yeah,
- 47:51Speaker 3: like what's going on in the background with and again,
- 47:55Speaker 3: none of these people are actually here and on campus,
- 47:58Speaker 3: but they're still recruiting and they're still recruiting resources. That
- 48:03Speaker 3: tell you where you're at. We're knocking it out of
- 48:05Speaker 3: the park in the recruiting realm for the next couple
- 48:08Speaker 3: of years, like what we were twenty twenty seven. We're
- 48:11Speaker 3: gonna we have a top top five recruiting class right
- 48:14Speaker 3: now in the nation, three guys.
- 48:16Speaker 4: And more guys I think right now.
- 48:18Speaker 3: And so so it's a little bit back to what
- 48:21Speaker 3: you ask me, Ben that if that happens, it'll suck
- 48:25Speaker 3: when it happens. But there's some really good things on
- 48:28Speaker 3: the backside happening with recruiting, and I would believe that
- 48:32Speaker 3: we're able to get players here, to find replacements for
- 48:37Speaker 3: our deficiency, to help us. And so all that the
- 48:41Speaker 3: good that's coming with this, the bad that happens, if
- 48:44Speaker 3: that were to happen, in the end, the good totally
- 48:46Speaker 3: outweighs the bad because it's helping us.
- 48:50Speaker 2: Even if we stumble into it by teams not being
- 48:54Speaker 2: as good this year, or we Misterbraska football team.
- 48:59Speaker 3: It seems to only we only been Only we care
- 49:02Speaker 3: about that, Only we care about that. Nobody else. I mean,
- 49:05Speaker 3: they'll say it, but they forget it in a minute
- 49:07Speaker 3: after they go back and look at this, look at
- 49:09Speaker 3: the season. Nobody goes back and remembers how tough for
- 49:12Speaker 3: somebody's schedule was last year or the year before.
- 49:18Speaker 2: Going back to winning games. We should be happy we're
- 49:20Speaker 2: winning games. Yes, it doesn't matter how it looks. We
- 49:22Speaker 2: should not be giving it a grade if we you know,
- 49:27Speaker 2: we should be happy we're winning games we won.
- 49:30Speaker 3: Like, get a pass, I get a pass in game,
- 49:33Speaker 3: moment to bitch. After that, I'll be fine, But moments, yeah,
- 49:38Speaker 3: that's just frustrated.
- 49:39Speaker 2: You're a ticket holder. You pay a lot of money
- 49:41Speaker 2: to that university, so you're justified to do that. Yes,
- 49:46Speaker 2: you're in the fight with them.
- 49:48Speaker 4: Dang right, yep, good well.
- 49:52Speaker 2: I believe this Friday's game or Saturday's game is the
- 49:55Speaker 2: most important game for the remain of our season. I
- 49:59Speaker 2: am if we win this game at Maryland, I really believe, Arnie.
- 50:03Speaker 2: I'm with you. We can go ten and two, you know,
- 50:07Speaker 2: miracle eleven and one. If we would do to lose Saturday,
- 50:11Speaker 2: I'm released here. It's going to be seven and five.
- 50:14Speaker 4: I would, I agree. I mean, there are we're probably
- 50:20Speaker 4: as fragile as anybody else in the country. Correct, I said,
- 50:22Speaker 4: I think correct Day could firal ye who knew who
- 50:27Speaker 4: knew if like if Georgia had beaten Alabama, Alabama could
- 50:33Speaker 4: have fir world. Now they got a big win, and so.
- 50:38Speaker 2: We have.
- 50:38Speaker 4: If we can win the next two weekends, the two
- 50:43Speaker 4: away games, that is going to give us so much confidence.
- 50:48Speaker 2: Correcting the other.
- 50:51Speaker 4: So then I then I might even go eleven to one.
- 50:54Speaker 2: Then when teams start losing, like Penn State, whose goal
- 50:57Speaker 2: before the year was a national title, how they are
- 51:00Speaker 2: out of that. Those guys have very little to play for.
- 51:06Speaker 2: I'm not saying they won't, but it's just a lot
- 51:08Speaker 2: harder than when you're trying to build something like we
- 51:10Speaker 2: are USC. I know they're a pretty good passing offense,
- 51:15Speaker 2: but what's our strength on defense past the secondary? That
- 51:21Speaker 2: team's strength, well, our strength can count encounter that. So
- 51:25Speaker 2: I really believe this Saturday's game sets up the rest
- 51:28Speaker 2: of the season at either ten and two, eleven and one,
- 51:31Speaker 2: as crazy as that sounds, or possibly seven and five,
- 51:36Speaker 2: because our guys will lose, like you said, lose confidence,
- 51:39Speaker 2: and as you start losing, guys get injured. It just happens.
- 51:44Speaker 2: It's it's weird, they're just they they they do. And
- 51:48Speaker 2: so that's where I'm at with and that's why it's
- 51:51Speaker 2: so great you guys are going to the game. We
- 51:53Speaker 2: have the pod now because if you know, four weeks
- 51:55Speaker 2: from now, we can look back and say, yes, that
- 51:57Speaker 2: is when it went south or that's when it went it.
- 52:00Speaker 3: So it's been a lot of fun.
- 52:03Speaker 2: Anything else you want to add before I wrap us up.
- 52:06Speaker 4: Here, Yeah, just one thing. Make sure that when you
- 52:10Speaker 4: are listening and watching the game on Saturday and every
- 52:13Speaker 4: other Saturday or Friday, just make sure you have enough
- 52:16Speaker 4: energy and you want to just kick out mother.
- 52:20Speaker 2: But god, yeah, can you give us a go big
- 52:25Speaker 2: red playoffs? Just one?
- 52:27Speaker 4: No? No, no no gbr GBRR.
- 52:32Speaker 2: Can you give us?
- 52:36Speaker 4: Sorry?
- 52:38Speaker 5: I need your particular participations ern in our positive group
- 52:44Speaker 5: text like you don't participate, Like we're trying to create
- 52:47Speaker 5: positive vibes and you don't respond to anything.
- 52:50Speaker 3: So can you do that?
- 52:51Speaker 4: Bumped up? I do? I give it. I don't put
- 52:54Speaker 4: too much in there because I just like looking and laughing.
- 52:57Speaker 3: We want to hear your positive vibes, your positive texts
- 53:01Speaker 3: about Hoscar football.
- 53:02Speaker 4: I am created purpose. Hey, I love them. I've seen
- 53:07Speaker 4: all five national championships, you guys, haven't. I love the Huskers.
- 53:13Speaker 4: We know.
- 53:16Speaker 2: You stand. Do you stand at the spring game when
- 53:19Speaker 2: Billy c went five white? Though? That's what I want
- 53:21Speaker 2: to know.
- 53:22Speaker 4: Not stand up. I probably clapped my hands a little bit.
- 53:26Speaker 2: Okay, that's all I need to know. Okay, So Larry
- 53:30Speaker 2: holding to it.
- 53:32Speaker 4: I don't remember Hell. I'm fixty six, but I don't
- 53:34Speaker 4: remember anything.
- 53:36Speaker 2: Good point.
- 53:39Speaker 3: All right, We're good, okay, and I gotta wrap this
- 53:42Speaker 3: up here.
