- 1:21Speaker 1: here's Richard with today's reflection.
- 1:24Speaker 2: All authority has been given to me in heaven and
- 1:27Speaker 2: on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,
- 1:32Speaker 2: baptizing them in the name of the Father and of
- 1:35Speaker 2: the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to
- 1:40Speaker 2: observe everything I have commanded you. And remember I am
- 1:46Speaker 2: with you always to the end of the age. Matthew
- 1:51Speaker 2: twenty eight eighteen through twenty The words we just read
- 1:57Speaker 2: are what are commonly referred to as the Great Commission.
- 2:03Speaker 2: But you notice that the words express discipleship make disciples
- 2:10Speaker 2: of all nations. So how does discipleship begin. What we
- 2:18Speaker 2: have been commanded in the Great Commission to do is
- 2:23Speaker 2: to go and make disciples. The term disciple is used
- 2:28Speaker 2: to identify a follower. We are to help others become
- 2:33Speaker 2: followers of Jesus Christ. Too often this has been assumed
- 2:38Speaker 2: by the task of the clergy. Jesus meant for every
- 2:44Speaker 2: believer to disciple others. Discipleship begins by developing a relationship
- 2:51Speaker 2: with someone seeking to know Jesus. It requires our time, talent,
- 2:58Speaker 2: and treasure being invested in the life of another. As
- 3:03Speaker 2: the relationship grows, so does the living example of a
- 3:09Speaker 2: changed life live with the other. The follower not only
- 3:15Speaker 2: hears our words, but also lives through the daily walk
- 3:19Speaker 2: we have with the Lord Jesus. In this way, the
- 3:24Speaker 2: disciple learns how to emulate our lives. As we follow Jesus,
- 3:30Speaker 2: we encourage them to continue in the things that we
- 3:35Speaker 2: have taught them. This is not our boasting about our
- 3:39Speaker 2: own lives, but more giving praise to God for his
- 3:43Speaker 2: grace and mercy in saving us and placing us on
- 3:48Speaker 2: a path of righteousness. Our influence should cause our disciple
- 3:55Speaker 2: to desire a deeper relationship with the Lord Jesus. The
- 4:00Speaker 2: Great Commission was Jesus' last command before he ascended into heaven.
- 4:08Speaker 2: This command to go and make disciples consist of mission,
- 4:13Speaker 2: molding and maturing. The mission is clear, we are to go.
- 4:20Speaker 2: The molding or forming of the disciple is by teaching
- 4:25Speaker 2: and living everything that Jesus reveals to us through his
- 4:30Speaker 2: word and his example. All this is accomplished by our
- 4:35Speaker 2: surrendering totally to the Holy Spirit and his leading. Finally,
- 4:42Speaker 2: the maturing is experienced by helping our disciple do the
- 4:47Speaker 2: same things that we have been commanded by Jesus to do.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Richard will be right back in a moment to wrap up.
- 4:55Speaker 1: But if you've just joined us you've been listening to
- 4:57Speaker 1: Reflections on the Word with Richard k. You can hear

- 5:09Speaker 1: like to acknowledge our theme song, how Great is Thy
- 5:11Speaker 1: Faithfulness from the America's twenty five Favorite Hymns album unless otherwise.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Express scriptures are read from the Holman Christian Standard Bible,
- 5:21Speaker 1: which is published by Homann Bible Publishers in Nashville, Tennessee.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Additional resources used for reflections on the Word with Richard
- 5:28Speaker 1: Kay include Great is Thy Faithfulness by Our Daily Bread
- 5:33Speaker 1: and printed by Discovery House Publishers. Again here is Richard
- 5:37Speaker 1: to wrap up today's message.
- 5:41Speaker 2: So we may be asked to go to other parts
- 5:44Speaker 2: of the world or obediently to our next door neighbor.
- 5:49Speaker 2: The location is selected by God. The command applies whether
- 5:54Speaker 2: here at home or in a far away land, and
- 5:58Speaker 2: to all peoples. God promises when we go and make disciples,
- 6:05Speaker 2: that He will be with us and will never leave us.
- 6:09Speaker 2: There is no greater joy than to disciple others in Christ.
- 6:16Speaker 2: It is Christ in you believer, that is their hope
- 6:22Speaker 2: of glory. All authority has been given to me in
- 6:28Speaker 2: heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of
- 6:33Speaker 2: all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father
- 6:37Speaker 2: and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching
- 6:42Speaker 2: them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember
- 6:49Speaker 2: I am with you always to the end of the age.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Matthew twenty eight eighteen through twenty And that is today's
- 7:02Speaker 2: reflection on the Word.
