- 0:02Speaker 1: the men, No, I need all of them.
- 0:04Speaker 2: I need my dad, I.
- 0:05Speaker 3: Need my husband, I need I need all the men.
- 0:07Speaker 2: I need them.
- 0:12Speaker 4: The game.
- 0:14Speaker 3: In mind, learning all the time until the game, caring
- 0:26Speaker 3: in the plane, the path, but it's annoy day until
- 0:34Speaker 3: the game.
- 0:43Speaker 4: Welcome back to Bourne's The Game, the podcast where legacy
- 0:46Speaker 4: meets purpose and every story reminds us that we're more
- 0:48Speaker 4: connected than we think.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Today, we're switching things up a bit.
- 0:52Speaker 4: Usually we're sitting down with incredible guests to talk about family, identity, legacy,
- 0:57Speaker 4: and the journeys that have shaped who we are.
- 1:00Speaker 1: But today it's just us, and we realize it's been
- 1:04Speaker 1: a while since we've had the chance to catch up
- 1:06Speaker 1: directly with all of you and to share what's been
- 1:09Speaker 1: happening behind the scenes, both of the podcast and in.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Our personal lives.
- 1:13Speaker 1: So consider this a personal virtual coffee date. We're talking
- 1:18Speaker 1: about life lately, the highs, the challenges, lessons we're learning
- 1:22Speaker 1: in real time, what's next for born to the game,
- 1:25Speaker 1: and answering some of your questions along the way. So,
- 1:28Speaker 1: whether you're listening in your car, on a walk at work,
- 1:31Speaker 1: or folding laundry.
- 1:32Speaker 2: We're grateful you're here.
- 1:34Speaker 3: So let's catch Yeah, this is.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Born's the game. Yeah, yay.
- 1:40Speaker 4: It's been a wild at least for me the last
- 1:44Speaker 4: six weeks. I just feel like my head has been
- 1:47Speaker 4: cut off and I've been running around not knowing which
- 1:50Speaker 4: direction I'm freaking going. So just to be able to
- 1:54Speaker 4: sit here and digest and unwind, I think it's we
- 2:00Speaker 4: need intention setting, absolutely.
- 2:03Speaker 1: And absolutely I love that, and I love that like
- 2:07Speaker 1: it is needed, and I've learned that since I moved
- 2:10Speaker 1: away from home that it is needed to literally check in,
- 2:14Speaker 1: like to literally set.
- 2:15Speaker 3: An attention to call uh, your friend or someone just
- 2:19Speaker 3: to be.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Like, okay, we just need to catch up because life
- 2:23Speaker 1: just goes like light speed fast and you look up
- 2:26Speaker 1: in six months has passed and you look up a
- 2:28Speaker 1: year has gone.
- 2:30Speaker 2: So I know I need I need to just kind of.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Decompress and talk about some things because a lot has
- 2:36Speaker 1: gone on.
- 2:38Speaker 2: You all to say.
- 2:41Speaker 4: Today your wig got snatched and I haven't said that
- 2:44Speaker 4: in a while, but your wig got snashed today. Okay,
- 2:47Speaker 4: you have been going through it today and you just
- 2:51Speaker 4: need to reset. I do I mean the car outside
- 2:54Speaker 4: are coming off I didn't know.
- 2:57Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying.
- 2:58Speaker 1: We were like, oh, the beabing, Well, I had no idea.
- 3:03Speaker 1: I thought that I thought the workers were upstairs working
- 3:05Speaker 1: on our age back and I thought that they were.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Upstairs working on it.
- 3:09Speaker 1: And I had no clue that the carbon monoxide alarm
- 3:13Speaker 1: was going off.
- 3:14Speaker 3: I could have been here did on the podcast.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Then I haven't been a headline Jesus with us. But
- 3:24Speaker 2: all is fine.
- 3:26Speaker 4: You are not about to pass over due to.
- 3:31Speaker 3: I am yet alive.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Okay, you're a good and thriving But I.
- 3:36Speaker 4: Think let's take this time to be intentional you and
- 3:40Speaker 4: I love that word. It's like it's my golden word.
- 3:44Speaker 4: I just use for everything.
- 3:45Speaker 2: I want to be intentional.
- 3:46Speaker 4: I like intentionality, intention intention Let's be intentional this week.
- 3:50Speaker 4: What one intention you're setting for yourself this week? I'm
- 3:57Speaker 4: trying to think of one for myself. Like, you know,
- 4:01Speaker 4: we're gonna take some time to sit and process and
- 4:05Speaker 4: digest and reset, but be intentional about it.
- 4:08Speaker 2: So, what's one thing that you want to do?
- 4:14Speaker 3: You know it's it's not even gonna be anything big.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean like, because I feel like if we
- 4:20Speaker 1: put the pressure of it being like this big, lofty
- 4:24Speaker 1: you know, I'm gonna do this, this, this, It can
- 4:26Speaker 1: it can seem like overwhelming, especially if you have so
- 4:29Speaker 1: many things on your plate. But like for me, I
- 4:32Speaker 1: was talking to my best friend and we were talking
- 4:33Speaker 1: about how like we have we make these lists and
- 4:38Speaker 1: there's so much on them and I have to have
- 4:40Speaker 1: a list because if I don't have it, nothing will
- 4:42Speaker 1: ever get done. But then the list, it becomes intimidating
- 4:46Speaker 1: and it comes overwhelming. So the intention is to do
- 4:50Speaker 1: two or three things off my list, whatever it is.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Like, it can be something small.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Or you know, something that I need that you know,
- 4:58Speaker 1: like something for the I R.
- 5:00Speaker 3: You know, they could be something serious.
- 5:02Speaker 1: But I think instead of putting the big pressures that
- 5:05Speaker 1: we have to do, like these big, huge goals each day,
- 5:09Speaker 1: the intentions of just getting one or two things done.
- 5:13Speaker 1: It just helps me to feel like I've accomplished something.
- 5:16Speaker 1: It makes it things feel a little less daunting, because
- 5:19Speaker 1: let's just be honest.
- 5:20Speaker 3: We have a lot to do.
- 5:22Speaker 2: There is so much to do.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Like everybody I talk to has like so much on
- 5:27Speaker 1: their plate. I don't know if it's the time of year,
- 5:31Speaker 1: I don't know if it's just women.
- 5:33Speaker 3: I don't know what it is, but everyone.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Is literally like losing their shit and they're just like,
- 5:38Speaker 1: I have so much to do and it's just all
- 5:41Speaker 1: of us.
- 5:41Speaker 3: So yeah, it's just intentionality is.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Just meaning I just need to get something done today
- 5:47Speaker 1: and I will be happy.
- 5:48Speaker 2: And you bring up a good point.
- 5:51Speaker 4: There's so much to do all the time, and I
- 5:54Speaker 4: think for me, knowing that there's so much to do
- 5:57Speaker 4: all the time is my problem because I don't allow
- 6:01Speaker 4: myself to fully reset because even in the moment of
- 6:05Speaker 4: me being still, I feel guilty knowing that there's so
- 6:10Speaker 4: much for me to do that I can't really sit still.
- 6:14Speaker 4: And so that's one thing I want to be intentional
- 6:16Speaker 4: about for myself, is allowing myself.
- 6:19Speaker 2: To reset, to unhlove, to be.
- 6:22Speaker 4: Present because I this even this past weekend, I had
- 6:26Speaker 4: a beautiful weekend with my family and I was trying
- 6:31Speaker 4: really hard to not focus on the things that I
- 6:35Speaker 4: can't control, but it was hard. And so this week
- 6:38Speaker 4: I'm like, I need to be intentional about when I
- 6:41Speaker 4: put my phone down. I'm putting my phone down. When
- 6:43Speaker 4: I close this computer, I'm going to close this computer.
- 6:47Speaker 4: I want to shut off all of the tabs that
- 6:49Speaker 4: are in my brain and be okay with not worrying
- 6:52Speaker 4: about all the.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Shit I gotta do.
- 6:55Speaker 4: It's okay, you know. And so two things can be true.
- 6:59Speaker 4: You can have a whole list of things that you
- 7:00Speaker 4: want to accomplish, and accomplish them, and then once you
- 7:03Speaker 4: get it done, just shut it down it all.
- 7:06Speaker 2: I love that you about the guilt though, that was best.
- 7:09Speaker 2: It's real.
- 7:10Speaker 4: It's so because you always think like there's something and
- 7:16Speaker 4: excuse my toddler in the background act and acting like
- 7:19Speaker 4: a two and a half year old, But there's always
- 7:22Speaker 4: there's always going to be stuff to do.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Yeah, the guilt like for me, like because I work
- 7:28Speaker 1: three to four days a week, so on my off days,
- 7:31Speaker 1: I have the guilt because sometimes on my off days,
- 7:33Speaker 1: I just kind of want to sit and do nothing.
- 7:36Speaker 3: But that's also the days that I try to get like.
- 7:38Speaker 1: The housework done and other business out of the way,
- 7:40Speaker 1: and I feel guilty if I don't get things done.
- 7:43Speaker 1: But it's just like, you know, it's my off day,
- 7:45Speaker 1: so I'm supposed to be, you know, try to relax,
- 7:47Speaker 1: but I feel guilty about relaxing, and it's the it's
- 7:50Speaker 1: the craziest thing that I have to allow myself to
- 7:54Speaker 1: at least, you know, I have to say to myself, okay,
- 7:57Speaker 1: for you to rest too.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Even though you're off.
- 8:00Speaker 1: But it's just like, yo, I those are the days
- 8:02Speaker 1: that I need to get housework done, or you know,
- 8:04Speaker 1: I need to write emails or or do you know,
- 8:08Speaker 1: do what I need to do. But the guilt is bad,
- 8:11Speaker 1: Like the guilt is.
- 8:11Speaker 2: A real thing. Where does that come from?
- 8:14Speaker 4: Is that society telling us that we aren't deserving of rest?
- 8:20Speaker 2: Is it social.
- 8:21Speaker 4: Medium krying to convince us that there's always something to
- 8:25Speaker 4: do and there's always something to accomplish. And are we
- 8:28Speaker 4: comparing ourselves to people who we think have more and
- 8:30Speaker 4: we're trying to obtain that? Like, where does this come from?
- 8:33Speaker 4: It's not coming from our mama and our dad, like
- 8:35Speaker 4: they're not telling.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Us to tell me, but it's it's like a laziness.
- 8:39Speaker 4: I feel like I'm being lazy and I don't know,
- 8:41Speaker 4: I don't know where that comes from.
- 8:43Speaker 1: But literally, if I'm not like doing something for like,
- 8:46Speaker 1: I feel like, okay, I'm lazy and I need you know,
- 8:49Speaker 1: you're just wasting time.
- 8:51Speaker 3: That is horrible.
- 8:52Speaker 2: But it is not just what it is. I think
- 8:54Speaker 2: I think you answered it.
- 8:56Speaker 4: It's this idea that if you're not constantly moving, you
- 9:03Speaker 4: are wasting time and then and you know, then that
- 9:07Speaker 4: means that you're being lazy. I think that it makes
- 9:09Speaker 4: sense now because even for me, I was always trying
- 9:12Speaker 4: to figure out why I feel the need to constantly
- 9:16Speaker 4: busy myself when I don't need to.
- 9:19Speaker 2: It's okay to just relax. But yeah, I think it's.
- 9:22Speaker 4: This not wanting people to have this misconception about who we.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Are, right, and busyness isn't always Busyness doesn't always.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Mean that you're moving forward.
- 9:34Speaker 1: So somebody says about treading water. You know, you can
- 9:36Speaker 1: trail water, but you're not actually going anywhere. That part
- 9:39Speaker 1: it's like sometimes you know, if you're just busy and
- 9:44Speaker 1: like you're just giving yourself, it's like if it's not intentional,
- 9:46Speaker 1: if it's not something you know what I mean, it's
- 9:48Speaker 1: just kind of like you're not doing anywhere. And also
- 9:50Speaker 1: if you're not rested and then you're trying to do something,
- 9:53Speaker 1: you're not giving your best. So it's weighing all those
- 9:56Speaker 1: things that you have to do as human beings, and
- 9:59Speaker 1: it's just like, which is.
- 10:01Speaker 3: Why we need to reset.
- 10:03Speaker 2: We need to kick our toes up.
- 10:07Speaker 4: I love of hot chocolate or tea or coffee, and
- 10:11Speaker 4: just put your phone on. Do not disturb anybody who
- 10:14Speaker 4: is watching. For those who are listening, we are giving
- 10:17Speaker 4: you permission to reset, to put your phone on, Do
- 10:21Speaker 4: not disturb, Do not touch that computer. Do not look
- 10:24Speaker 4: up your emails. Do not keep refreshing your emails to
- 10:28Speaker 4: check to see what new notification pops up. Just be
- 10:31Speaker 4: present with yourself, Be present with your friends, be present
- 10:35Speaker 4: with your family, and we are giving.
- 10:37Speaker 2: You permission to do that.
- 10:39Speaker 4: Be intentional about your rest. And even if there are
- 10:43Speaker 4: goals that you want to achieve this week, be intentional
- 10:46Speaker 4: about achieving it, but still allow yourself the space to just.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Be and do not think. Yeah, so also I have
- 10:57Speaker 2: to do something I like to do. Yes, it's cooking.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and I know that like we've been like
- 11:05Speaker 1: we've been talking about just like like decompressing and things
- 11:09Speaker 1: like that, and cooking is one of those ways that
- 11:12Speaker 1: I do that, and I know it is for you too.
- 11:14Speaker 1: So have you had have you made anything cool or
- 11:17Speaker 1: anything really good?
- 11:19Speaker 3: This week?
- 11:20Speaker 4: So, but well, they may know I'm a vegan on
- 11:26Speaker 4: plant based I've been vegan for almost ten years. My
- 11:28Speaker 4: husband is the polar opposite. He will eat a cow's ass. Okay,
- 11:33Speaker 4: so I don't eat the ass, right, I mean, let's
- 11:36Speaker 4: call that one back. I stand in tows on he
- 11:40Speaker 4: gonna eat the cows ass. All that, our diets are different,
- 11:45Speaker 4: and so cooking is fun.
- 11:47Speaker 2: It's therapeutic for me.
- 11:49Speaker 4: And I'm somebody who likes to know what I'm putting
- 11:53Speaker 4: in my body. So when you ask me what I
- 11:56Speaker 4: what I was making this week for myself, I made
- 12:00Speaker 4: a chickpie salad, which before I became vegan, I was
- 12:03Speaker 4: a tuna salad girl, a chicken salad girl, a salmon
- 12:06Speaker 4: salad girl with some tortilla chips. That was my go
- 12:10Speaker 4: to snack being vegan. Obviously, tuna salmon, chicken off the
- 12:15Speaker 4: table chickpeas. If you do a similar recipe that you
- 12:20Speaker 4: would do for a tuna salad chicken salad and just
- 12:22Speaker 4: swap it with some chickpeas and you season it up
- 12:25Speaker 4: the same way, get you some tortilla chips slaps every
- 12:28Speaker 4: single time. My husband will not try it to Mayor.
- 12:31Speaker 4: I think Leon Wood. I think your husband would because
- 12:34Speaker 4: Leon doesn't have to have meat so I think he
- 12:36Speaker 4: would try it bomb.
- 12:39Speaker 3: What I like. Is it like mayonnaise space or is it.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Like so literally?
- 12:44Speaker 4: So you how you make traditional tuna salad and chicken salad.
- 12:48Speaker 4: You have a meat and then mayo and then you
- 12:49Speaker 4: season it up. Same thing with chickpen You just clean
- 12:52Speaker 4: your chickpeas, throw some veganies, some vegan mayo, season it up.
- 12:56Speaker 4: I put some green onions in there, tortilla chip, fire fire.
- 13:05Speaker 2: That's fun. That's what I did.
- 13:06Speaker 4: And then for Garius, I made him a sweet potato
- 13:09Speaker 4: protein bowl. So we are on a no sugar healthy
- 13:13Speaker 4: kick until summer league, and so he's trying to and
- 13:17Speaker 4: so I made him a sweet potato bowl, which was good.
- 13:19Speaker 4: I made his with sweet potatoes and ground beef and
- 13:23Speaker 4: broccoli and cheese and a sauce on top. And we
- 13:27Speaker 4: had that front well, he had it for the last
- 13:29Speaker 4: three days.
- 13:29Speaker 2: So I love you.
- 13:30Speaker 1: I've never met a sweet potato or any kind of potato.
- 13:33Speaker 1: It didn't like we all we love each other potatoes.
- 13:36Speaker 1: But I love chickpeas like I'm a I think chickpeas
- 13:38Speaker 1: are like either you like him or you don't because
- 13:41Speaker 1: of the texture. But my in our house I'm a
- 13:46Speaker 1: be eater as well, and I also have a veggie
- 13:49Speaker 1: person in my house too, and.
- 13:52Speaker 4: Also a veggie person that is also Jamaican. It's like
- 13:56Speaker 4: another layer of figuring things out around here. But we
- 14:01Speaker 4: also I do a chickpea thing. It's also it is
- 14:04Speaker 4: I will kind of.
- 14:05Speaker 3: Is it vegan? Yeah, it is actually vegan. We're not vegans.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Here and we have vegetarian pseudo pescatarian media though. But
- 14:14Speaker 1: I do make a chickpea, but it's curry chickpiece as
- 14:18Speaker 1: it's a you know, very Jamaican thing, so instead of
- 14:21Speaker 1: like curry chicken, it's curry chickpiece, very good, and I've
- 14:26Speaker 1: I've kind of perfected it. Sometimes I do add things
- 14:30Speaker 1: that are very non Jamaican, like I'll put in so
- 14:33Speaker 1: usually like chickpeas, but like I'll put in like, you know,
- 14:36Speaker 1: navy beans, just to like sure, yeah, but so Jamaicans
- 14:41Speaker 1: don't come for me.
- 14:42Speaker 3: I know that navy beans is not something that you do,
- 14:44Speaker 3: but I do it. Just don't come for me.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Jamaica are very very very serious about the recipes and
- 14:52Speaker 1: about how to do things, so I don't want anybody
- 14:56Speaker 1: for me.
- 14:57Speaker 3: But but yeah, it's very good.
- 14:59Speaker 1: I'll have to have to give you my recipe for
- 15:01Speaker 1: curry chickpiece, but it they are really.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Good with white rice. I love white rice.
- 15:06Speaker 2: I need to stop eating it.
- 15:07Speaker 1: But again, being married to a Jamaican is really fun
- 15:10Speaker 1: because we eat.
- 15:11Speaker 3: A lot of right rice. We had a lot of
- 15:13Speaker 3: rice around here.
- 15:15Speaker 2: I am not.
- 15:15Speaker 3: Complaining at all, trust me.
- 15:18Speaker 4: I think eventually, as we continue growing Born to the
- 15:21Speaker 4: Game and even our segment, I think eventually we're going
- 15:25Speaker 4: to be in the kitchen and we're going to shoot
- 15:27Speaker 4: cameras to the kitchen and have our kekey over some food.
- 15:31Speaker 3: I see it.
- 15:32Speaker 4: That's what we're going to manifest and speak into existence.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Boring in the game, born to the game, sorry, born
- 15:38Speaker 1: to the game in the kitchen.
- 15:39Speaker 4: In the kitchen period. But you know, in true Born
- 15:42Speaker 4: to the Game fashion, we love to give advice, We
- 15:46Speaker 4: love to uplift, and we love to encourage. So anyone
- 15:49Speaker 4: who's watching who doesn't typically find themselves in the kitchen
- 15:54Speaker 4: cooking over pot, pan stove, what's one piece of advice
- 16:00Speaker 4: that you would give to someone who may want to
- 16:02Speaker 4: start learning how to cook. I have quite a few
- 16:05Speaker 4: friends who don't cook, and there's nothing wrong there's again
- 16:08Speaker 4: no judgment, But what advice.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Would you give someone?
- 16:12Speaker 4: I know, for me, my advice is, don't be afraid
- 16:17Speaker 4: to mess it up. Don't view it as anything that's embarrassing.
- 16:22Speaker 4: If you get a recipe wrong, or if a recipe
- 16:25Speaker 4: doesn't turn out the way that you expected it to
- 16:27Speaker 4: turn out, it's okay.
- 16:29Speaker 2: You have to start somewhere, So go into.
- 16:31Speaker 4: It knowing that it's not going to be perfect, and
- 16:34Speaker 4: release yourself from this idea that you have to be
- 16:37Speaker 4: perfect when you start, because you're gonna throw a lot
- 16:40Speaker 4: of shit away. I know I did, and you as
- 16:43Speaker 4: you continue doing it, you'll get better and better.
- 16:46Speaker 1: I have two pieces, and actually they're not even my advice.
- 16:48Speaker 1: It was advice that I was given. I love it
- 16:51Speaker 1: so And also it's from two aunties, and I love
- 16:53Speaker 1: that about me. I love that we have a huge
- 16:56Speaker 1: We have a lot of women in our family and
- 16:59Speaker 1: all of them cook and a lot of they.
- 17:00Speaker 3: Just they have been huge influences in my life.
- 17:04Speaker 1: So my first bit of advice is coming from our
- 17:06Speaker 1: aunt Karen, and she always tells me to be patient
- 17:13Speaker 1: because she's like, you can't rush it. When she was
- 17:17Speaker 1: telling me about how to make her roles, or even
- 17:19Speaker 1: when it comes to something as simple as rice, which
- 17:22Speaker 1: is why I'm going to teach you how to make rice.
- 17:24Speaker 3: And even with making rice.
- 17:25Speaker 2: And I tell people all the time, you have to
- 17:27Speaker 2: be patient. So the first piece of advice is to
- 17:30Speaker 2: be patient. So thank you Auntie Karen for that.
- 17:32Speaker 3: But she's so right.
- 17:33Speaker 1: People try to rush and pull and throw stuff in.
- 17:36Speaker 1: It's like, you know, sometimes the food can.
- 17:40Speaker 3: Feel your energy.
- 17:42Speaker 1: If you're all stressed out and rushy, it's gonna taste
- 17:45Speaker 1: like it.
- 17:45Speaker 2: So there's that.
- 17:46Speaker 1: The second bit of advice was from my aunt Vivet,
- 17:49Speaker 1: which is my husband's.
- 17:52Speaker 3: My husband's auntie.
- 17:54Speaker 1: And when I went to Jamaica, she was telling me
- 17:57Speaker 1: this is how I do it.
- 17:58Speaker 2: She's like, but you do how you do it.
- 18:01Speaker 1: She was like, this is how I do it, but
- 18:03Speaker 1: there are no rules. She was giving me the permission.
- 18:06Speaker 3: I guess, as I'm learning a new cuisine to do
- 18:09Speaker 3: it how I do it, and it's okay.
- 18:12Speaker 1: And I felt released by that because Jamaican cooking can
- 18:15Speaker 1: be very intimidating. And but ever since she told me that,
- 18:20Speaker 1: like that's a piece of advice that I have taken
- 18:21Speaker 1: with me through my journey of my own cooking and
- 18:25Speaker 1: then also learning how.
- 18:27Speaker 3: To cook for my husband.
- 18:28Speaker 1: So uh yeah, be patient and how you do it,
- 18:32Speaker 1: it's yours. It's your's your family, it's your spread, it's
- 18:35Speaker 1: your table, it's yours for the taken.
- 18:39Speaker 4: I love it, not to everyone who helping us navigate
- 18:44Speaker 4: these kitchen streets.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Yes, because baby, this is the thing. But I love it,
- 18:49Speaker 1: Like the kitchen really gives me.
- 18:51Speaker 3: A sense of peace when I'm cooking it.
- 18:55Speaker 1: It's like another form of creativity and I just I like,
- 18:58Speaker 1: I love, you know, putting flavors and textures and things together.
- 19:03Speaker 1: So it is definitely a way of.
- 19:04Speaker 2: How I decompress.
- 19:05Speaker 1: And I hope that people would not feel that it
- 19:08Speaker 1: is a stressful thing because it can be stressful, but
- 19:10Speaker 1: hooking can be so therapeutic. Again, I think it's there
- 19:15Speaker 1: we go again, society putting pressure on everybody to do
- 19:20Speaker 1: things at this exceptional level. When no one says you
- 19:25Speaker 1: have to be a five star, five Michelin star chef.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Just go in there and throw some stuff together if
- 19:32Speaker 1: you like it, Like you're always saying, it's yours, it's
- 19:37Speaker 1: your recipe as long as you.
- 19:39Speaker 2: Like it and your family.
- 19:41Speaker 4: Loves it, or whoever you're cooking for, enjoys it.
- 19:44Speaker 2: No pressure, get in their play around, have some fun
- 19:47Speaker 2: with it. That's what I've learned to do. Just have something.
- 19:49Speaker 2: I love it. So we have Father's Day coming up.
- 19:53Speaker 2: It's coming.
- 19:54Speaker 3: When is it in two weeks?
- 19:55Speaker 2: A week? Oh no, it's in two weeks. Oh well, okay,
- 19:59Speaker 2: wo that's beast.
- 20:01Speaker 3: It's coming up.
- 20:02Speaker 4: Father's Day is slowly approaching, and I love I think
- 20:07Speaker 4: it was again.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Sorry listeners.
- 20:10Speaker 4: If you hear my son playing, he's banging his drums
- 20:13Speaker 4: back there whatever he's banging on. But Mike Epps in
- 20:19Speaker 4: his in one of his stand up comedies, always jokes
- 20:22Speaker 4: about Father's Day and how you know, if you want
- 20:26Speaker 4: to book a restaurant on Father's Day, you can get
- 20:29Speaker 4: up the morning up and make book a reservation for
- 20:33Speaker 4: ten people on Father's Day and.
- 20:34Speaker 2: You won't have any problem. He was, like, Mother's Day,
- 20:37Speaker 2: you got to book it a year out. Father's Day.
- 20:39Speaker 4: You can get that morning and get yourself a reservation
- 20:44Speaker 4: at the most popular restaurant and there will be seats available.
- 20:48Speaker 2: But you know what, we're not gonna do that to
- 20:51Speaker 2: our daddy's We're.
- 20:52Speaker 4: Gonna you know We're gonna celebrate you, guys and just
- 20:57Speaker 4: reiterate the importance of fatherhood and having a man around
- 21:04Speaker 4: the home and in the children's life. Fathers play such
- 21:09Speaker 4: a pivotal role in our development and how we see
- 21:12Speaker 4: the world.
- 21:13Speaker 2: And so you know, we.
- 21:14Speaker 4: Love active fathers, we love present fathers, we love uplifting fathers.
- 21:19Speaker 4: So you know, shout out figures, father figures exactly.
- 21:25Speaker 2: So we have uncles.
- 21:27Speaker 4: Everybody whoever identifies themselves as a father figure to any degree.
- 21:32Speaker 4: We celebrate you, and we see you.
- 21:35Speaker 2: And we have a fun episode coming up with.
- 21:39Speaker 4: And I was gonna say, you know, it's your dad
- 21:42Speaker 4: was the reason why we even have this podcast, so
- 21:44Speaker 4: we get so we watching this like I better get
- 21:49Speaker 4: all my shoutouts, need all the shout outs. I mean,
- 21:52Speaker 4: I mean to be Mariah, it is because of your
- 21:55Speaker 4: dad that we are a city here today.
- 21:58Speaker 3: And it's so funny, like because he's so hilarious.
- 22:02Speaker 2: He would foret it either. No, but shout out to the.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Dads and the dad figures out there that are doing
- 22:11Speaker 1: their thing, that are showing.
- 22:12Speaker 3: Up to the dads that have stepped in. They're not
- 22:15Speaker 3: even they're not even your kids. You know, those guys
- 22:19Speaker 3: you know.
- 22:19Speaker 1: That are taken on children that are not even their blood,
- 22:22Speaker 1: And I just I really, you know, I was talking
- 22:25Speaker 1: to your mom actually earlier about how the negative always
- 22:30Speaker 1: gets all the attention. Like the negative you know, when
- 22:33Speaker 1: you're in school, and like the bad kids got all
- 22:36Speaker 1: the we couldn't go outside because the bad kids were
- 22:38Speaker 1: acting up. It's like, yo, how come they can't stay
- 22:41Speaker 1: inside and we can go. So it's like I feel
- 22:43Speaker 1: like negativity gets more oppressed and then the good stuff,
- 22:46Speaker 1: the good people, the good dads, don't get the play.
- 22:49Speaker 1: It's always about the head beats, and it's like, you know,
- 22:52Speaker 1: we want to we want to talk about and uplift
- 22:54Speaker 1: the ones that have been have been.
- 22:56Speaker 2: There's so many, there's so many.
- 22:58Speaker 1: There's so many men, and we need them, Like, oh
- 23:02Speaker 1: my gosh, I don't understand this narrative that like we.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Don't need the men.
- 23:06Speaker 3: No, I need all of them. I need my dad,
- 23:08Speaker 3: I need my husband, I need my brothers.
- 23:09Speaker 2: I need all the men. I need them, like literally literally,
- 23:14Speaker 2: I need them all. You know.
- 23:16Speaker 4: We've had quite a few guests on our podcast talk
- 23:20Speaker 4: about their dynamic with their dads, and it's beautiful.
- 23:24Speaker 2: It's so beautiful.
- 23:25Speaker 4: It was good, you know, my gosh, and you could
- 23:28Speaker 4: see and feel and hear the impact that they leave
- 23:32Speaker 4: on their children. And so it's just a daily reminder
- 23:35Speaker 4: that fathers are needed, fathers are appreciated, and we see
- 23:41Speaker 4: you and we value what you bring to the table
- 23:45Speaker 4: and what you bring to your families and into your
- 23:47Speaker 4: children's lives. So I'm excited for this episode to release.
- 23:51Speaker 2: It's going to be silly.
- 23:52Speaker 4: It's my dad, it's olden Polonies sitting with myself and
- 23:58Speaker 4: Alexis Polonies who join this and it is just going
- 24:04Speaker 4: to be who They crack jokes the whole time. They're bold, silly,
- 24:08Speaker 4: and I'm excited for It's could be a treat.
- 24:13Speaker 2: It is so shout out to them. And I don't
- 24:17Speaker 2: even know.
- 24:19Speaker 3: We hurt you, Yes we do. We hurt you.
- 24:22Speaker 2: We hurt all the dads. Trying to think where my
- 24:25Speaker 2: dad's gonna be.
- 24:26Speaker 4: I'm like, I think my dad will be back in Sacramento.
- 24:30Speaker 3: He's you ever get what do you get your dad?
- 24:33Speaker 3: Do you get your dad stuff?
- 24:34Speaker 2: Or my dad will get a high five?
- 24:38Speaker 3: Yes dad?
- 24:38Speaker 1: Ever, my dad's gonna get a phone call, He's gonna
- 24:42Speaker 1: get ah.
- 24:44Speaker 4: My happy Father's Day, Dad, What are you doing? So
- 24:49Speaker 4: I have a funny story about my dad. So we
- 24:53Speaker 4: give my dad cologne. My dad is big on smelling good.
- 24:56Speaker 4: And here's a reason why.
- 24:58Speaker 2: Oh my god.
- 25:00Speaker 4: So we used to give him toothbrushes and socks and
- 25:05Speaker 4: cologne for Christmas and Father's Day because that's the only
- 25:08Speaker 4: thing he wanted.
- 25:11Speaker 2: So there was the.
- 25:12Speaker 4: Reason why Dad is obsessed with cologne and smelling good.
- 25:17Speaker 4: And we always joke with him about this. Because there
- 25:19Speaker 4: was one summer he went to Bloomington, Indiana to visit
- 25:23Speaker 4: my uncle Scott May, who played at IU with him.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Shout out to.
- 25:27Speaker 4: My uncle Scott, and his granddaughter was there, and I
- 25:33Speaker 4: think she gave him a hug when he walked in.
- 25:36Speaker 4: My mom was there too, she'll she'll tell the story
- 25:39Speaker 4: as well.
- 25:40Speaker 2: But she was like when.
- 25:44Speaker 4: Scott's grandbaby gave Dad a hug, she was like, you stink.
- 25:51Speaker 2: And ran her like, little girl, don't make me like
- 25:57Speaker 2: I do not stink.
- 25:58Speaker 4: He gets so offended, like he will be so offended
- 26:00Speaker 4: if anyone ever told him that he's staying. And I
- 26:03Speaker 4: don't think it was he smelled bad, but I think
- 26:06Speaker 4: his cologne was overwhelmingly strong. That.
- 26:10Speaker 2: She was like, Nah, you smell bad.
- 26:11Speaker 4: But he was sitting in a corner like upset about
- 26:14Speaker 4: it the rest of the day because.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Somebody say he's stung. He cannot.
- 26:19Speaker 4: He hates the idea of smelling bad.
- 26:21Speaker 3: So he smells good.
- 26:23Speaker 1: That one thing about him he's he always smells fresh
- 26:27Speaker 1: off the shower girl, because and he gonna squirt about
- 26:32Speaker 1: twenty sprays of cologne before he moves on and does
- 26:37Speaker 1: another thing. So the colone that I get him, let's
- 26:39Speaker 1: say I get him cologne for Christmas. That thing is
- 26:42Speaker 1: gone by my birthday. May like it will not last
- 26:49Speaker 1: him more than actually May is generous.
- 26:53Speaker 4: I don't think it lasts h more than two months.
- 26:56Speaker 4: He's like he's like that with Colonne, and he's like
- 26:58Speaker 4: that with laundry determed.
- 27:00Speaker 3: Oh I've seen him do the poor and I'm like,
- 27:02Speaker 3: oh my gosh.
- 27:03Speaker 2: She just Likesmara Samarah. He came when he first used
- 27:08Speaker 2: to come.
- 27:09Speaker 4: When we first moved to Sacramento. My mom was still
- 27:13Speaker 4: in Palm Springs at the time. She hasn't come, she
- 27:15Speaker 4: didn't come up yet, but I was here with garyus
- 27:18Speaker 4: and my dad had just moved into their place downtown
- 27:21Speaker 4: and he didn't have a car yet. He didn't have
- 27:24Speaker 4: he didn't have laundry, detergent, nothing. So he came over
- 27:27Speaker 4: to my home and I was gracious enough to give him.
- 27:30Speaker 2: A bag, a big old bag.
- 27:32Speaker 4: Of laundry, uh, with the lord little pods. He looked
- 27:37Speaker 4: at me and said, this isn't gonna be enough to
- 27:39Speaker 4: last me the week. I said, Dad, there's one hundred
- 27:42Speaker 4: pods in here. What are you talking about? What are
- 27:45Speaker 4: you talking about? Use girl, road girl enough to to
- 27:53Speaker 4: single handedly keep Tides in business.
- 27:55Speaker 2: That's how much he uses.
- 27:57Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, you're supposed to you one pod. He
- 28:01Speaker 1: will not be heavily soiled like flowers or something.
- 28:05Speaker 2: But oh my god, Uncle Woody. But that's just good,
- 28:09Speaker 2: just for the viewers to now. Coach Woodie refuses to smell.
- 28:13Speaker 1: The man is always squeaky clean, though, And that little
- 28:17Speaker 1: girl she probably didn't know what she was smelling because
- 28:19Speaker 1: it was definitely not stuff to think.
- 28:21Speaker 2: It was definitely her own shower.
- 28:24Speaker 3: Jill definitely well girl.
- 28:27Speaker 4: He still feels a certain type of way about that
- 28:30Speaker 4: fifty years later.
- 28:31Speaker 2: So it's so funny.
- 28:34Speaker 4: But yeah, we're excited for Father's Day.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Shoutouts to all the dads. Shout out to my daddy.
- 28:39Speaker 3: Love your dad. We love you Uncle James. Yes, yes,
- 28:43Speaker 3: yes yes, be.
- 28:44Speaker 4: Sureing to join us as Father's Day as we celebrate
- 28:46Speaker 4: the dad's father figures and legacies that continue to inspire us.
- 28:50Speaker 4: Our special Father's Day episode drops this Sunday. Until then,
