Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Devin Gray is how UKN and Europe correspondent Five women
- 0:03Speaker 1: say that they've been raped by the former Herod's boss,
- 0:06Speaker 1: Muhammad al Fayed, of course, father of Dodie al Fayed Gevin.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Yes, indeed run so. Muhammed al Fayed was a very
- 0:14Speaker 2: colorful figure. He died last year at the age of
- 0:16Speaker 2: ninety four. Colorful figure because for many years he ran
- 0:20Speaker 2: the luxury London department store. Harold's became sort of a
- 0:24Speaker 2: bit of a TV personality as well, ingratiated himself with
- 0:28Speaker 2: the royal family and of course, as you said, his
- 0:31Speaker 2: son later died in a car crash, having been partnered
- 0:35Speaker 2: alongside Diana, the Princess of Wales back in nineteen ninety seven. Indeed,
- 0:39Speaker 2: the new generation beginning to know the al Fayheds through
- 0:41Speaker 2: the series of The Crown. But it is tonight Muhammad
- 0:45Speaker 2: al Fhaired and his relationship with his former female ex employees.
- 0:50Speaker 2: They are claiming that the billionaire raped them or at
- 0:54Speaker 2: least sexually assaulted them. Now twenty have come forward in total,
- 1:00Speaker 2: and they say that Harold's not only failed to intervene,
- 1:03Speaker 2: but they actually helped cover up abuse allegations. When al
- 1:06Speaker 2: faired was owning it and in charge of it. Harrod's
- 1:09Speaker 2: current owners say they're utterly apported by the allegations and
- 1:12Speaker 2: that these victims had been jailed for what the store
- 1:15Speaker 2: sincerely apologized and the fired faced sexual assault claims while
- 1:21Speaker 2: he was alive run that these allegations now are much
- 1:24Speaker 2: much more serious and of an unprecedented scale.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Absolutely he did. The UK prisoners that were released as
- 1:30Speaker 1: part of the overcrowding deal to reduce the numbers in
- 1:33Speaker 1: the prisons, what's happened with their bracelets?
- 1:36Speaker 2: Yeah, what a very very good question, Ryan. Many of
- 1:39Speaker 2: them were supposed to be wearing these tags, electronic tags,
- 1:42Speaker 2: so that the authorities can keep an on them, they
- 1:45Speaker 2: know where they are and sometimes they have to attend
- 1:48Speaker 2: a police station as well. Of course, some one seven
- 1:52Speaker 2: hundred prisoners were left out early in England and Wales
- 1:55Speaker 2: last week because of overcrowding in prisons. Now we learn
- 1:59Speaker 2: that some of them were released but weren't given electronic
- 2:03Speaker 2: tagging devices despite it being a condition of their release.
- 2:07Speaker 2: The Ministry of Justice is blaming the contractor and saying
- 2:11Speaker 2: there's been a shortage of the tag. So not only
- 2:14Speaker 2: is there a shorten of prison spaces, but they were
- 2:16Speaker 2: still allowed out early, and then we learned as a
- 2:18Speaker 2: shortage of the tags. The contractor says it's doing everything
- 2:22Speaker 2: it can to rectify this. The government is threating some
- 2:25Speaker 2: sort of compensation deal if the situation isn't sorted out either.
- 2:30Speaker 2: But there are some in the justice industry, as that
- 2:33Speaker 2: were in the justice sector, who are saying this is
- 2:36Speaker 2: a disaster waiting to happen, allowing out these people without
- 2:40Speaker 2: a tag. And incidentally, if he wondered, the Chief Inspector
- 2:44Speaker 2: Probation believes about one in three of those released early
- 2:47Speaker 2: will re offend.
- 2:52Speaker 1: That is the dumbest thing I've heard this morning. Givin
- 2:54Speaker 1: thank you very much to that Kevin Gray, who's a
- 2:56Speaker 1: UK in Europe correspondent. Imagine getting you know, or line
- 3:00Speaker 1: them all up, the doors open and you say, oh, Extal,
- 3:03Speaker 1: we've run out of tag so you can go anyway?
