Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Netball players and fans alike can breathe a sigh of relief.
- 0:03Speaker 1: This morning, the an Z Premiership is found a home
- 0:05Speaker 1: for the next few next year's season, this time it's
- 0:09Speaker 1: going to be free to air TV and Z. Steph
- 0:11Speaker 1: Bond is executive manager of the Netball Players Association, joining
- 0:15Speaker 1: us this morning. Steph, good morning, Good morning. You must
- 0:19Speaker 1: be relieved that there is a deal.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Yeah. I think we are excited that it's going to
- 0:26Speaker 2: be on TV next year and a free to your
- 0:29Speaker 2: platform is exciting for the sport.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Do you get more people watching on free to air
- 0:34Speaker 1: than on Sky?
- 0:36Speaker 2: Absolutely? I think especially for a sport like netball, when
- 0:40Speaker 2: where there's a huge amount of people playing it at
- 0:43Speaker 2: a community level, to have all those all those people
- 0:46Speaker 2: over to watch it on free to air will definitely
- 0:48Speaker 2: increase the ills on the game.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Does it mean that they have settled for a lower
- 0:55Speaker 1: paying option with in terms of a broadcast.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Partner, Yeah, obviously answer that you'll have to ask net
- 1:02Speaker 2: when you're zaland that question that it is just great.
- 1:07Speaker 2: I think that we have a deeal for next year
- 1:09Speaker 2: in terms of what it looks like.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Now, do you know any details yet about what it
- 1:13Speaker 1: might mean for players.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Yeah, we're working through that at the moment, so we're
- 1:17Speaker 2: embargaining with net when you're done at the moment. So
- 1:19Speaker 2: that will now form part of the piece of what
- 1:22Speaker 2: it may look like next year in terms of payments
- 1:25Speaker 2: for players.
- 1:25Speaker 1: What is the worry that players have? Is it that
- 1:28Speaker 1: you go with TV ands and you get less money.
- 1:30Speaker 1: There's less you know, salary or less pay for netball players.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Yeah, we are obviously having to look at that right
- 1:39Speaker 2: now in terms of how it does fall in terms
- 1:42Speaker 2: of player payments. Over the last couple of weeks. Players
- 1:44Speaker 2: to have a fairly good idea now of the picture
- 1:47Speaker 2: for next year. So it is really sitting down for
- 1:50Speaker 2: each individual player and looking at that and actually working
- 1:52Speaker 2: out with a playing netwill is the right option for
- 1:55Speaker 2: their next year.
- 1:57Speaker 1: So it could come down to can I survive doing
- 2:00Speaker 1: this or do I actually need to get another job?
- 2:04Speaker 2: Yeah, that is right. I think players will have to
- 2:07Speaker 2: look at it a little bit differently, especially for some players.
- 2:10Speaker 2: All of our players do already work at the same time,
- 2:13Speaker 2: so it may just been packing up a few extra hours.
- 2:16Speaker 2: But I think it will be a little bit different
- 2:20Speaker 2: in terms of potentially what it may look like next year,
- 2:22Speaker 2: but I think it will still work for the majority
- 2:25Speaker 2: of players.
- 2:25Speaker 1: All right, Steff, appreciate your trying this morning. STEFH. Bond,
- 2:27Speaker 1: executive manager at New Zealand Network Players Association. For more
