- 0:02Speaker 1: This is a Bramble Jam podcast. Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark,
- 0:24Speaker 1: a Homark review podcast. I'm Megan and I'm a longtime
- 0:26Speaker 1: Hallmark fan. I'm Wendy. I'm a former Hallmark hater. Today
- 0:29Speaker 1: we're continuing our First Impression series, where we are reviewing
- 0:32Speaker 1: the pilot episodes of series streaming on Hallmark Plus. Today
- 0:38Speaker 1: we are diving into season one, episode one of Chesapeake Shores,
- 0:42Speaker 1: a series that ran on Hallmark from twenty sixteen to
- 0:45Speaker 1: twenty twenty two. It's a long time. It was a
- 0:49Speaker 1: long time. Fifty five episodes in this series. Really, I
- 0:54Speaker 1: thought I saw more than that, but we probably got
- 0:58Speaker 1: it from the same information, so I'm sure fifty five
- 1:01Speaker 1: is right. That's a lot. While you're listening, now's the
- 1:05Speaker 1: time become our best friend on Instagram, we are Girls
- 1:07Speaker 1: Gone Hallmark. We also have a Facebook group. Hey, if
- 1:10Speaker 1: you're looking for other Hallmark besties, that's the place Girls
- 1:15Speaker 1: Gone Hallmark on Facebook groups. This episode is dropping on
- 1:18Speaker 1: the same day as our listener Mailbag episodes. If you
- 1:21Speaker 1: want to be a part of that, we'd love to
- 1:22Speaker 1: hear your thoughts and opinions on these reviews on our podcast.
- 1:26Speaker 1: You can email us girls, go on Hallmark at gmail
- 1:28Speaker 1: dot com, or you can give us a call. We
- 1:31Speaker 1: are debuting our very first voice messages on today's episode,
- 1:36Speaker 1: and if you want to get in on that, you
- 1:37Speaker 1: can call us at nine four nine three two nine
- 1:40Speaker 1: eight zero nine zero. Yeah. In fact, that episode you'll
- 1:43Speaker 1: want to listen because there is a question about this
- 1:46Speaker 1: First Impression series because we think maybe there might be
- 1:51Speaker 1: some confusion about if we're going to review the entire series.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Is it confusion or is it wishful thinking? Maybe books?
- 2:02Speaker 1: Maybe bus All right, well let's talk about Chesapeake. Sure.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Can I first start? Yeah? I when I went to
- 2:09Speaker 1: go watch this, I went, ugh, it's a movie length. Yeah.
- 2:15Speaker 1: And the reason I was I have that feeling is
- 2:19Speaker 1: because I was, like, we review movies all the time,
- 2:23Speaker 1: and sometimes when I gotta like carve out two hours,
- 2:27Speaker 1: you know, give or take in doing notes and all
- 2:30Speaker 1: that stuff too. I was hoping that some of these
- 2:34Speaker 1: first impressions would be forty five minutes. Sure, but Goodwitch
- 2:38Speaker 1: was also movie length. And then we have this one,
- 2:42Speaker 1: which was also movie length, to which I texted you,
- 2:45Speaker 1: I said, uh, it's movie length, and you responded, what
- 2:50Speaker 1: I know. That's why I haven't watched it yet. But
- 2:56Speaker 1: but but yeah, don't go await, guys, because overall a
- 3:00Speaker 1: really good episode. Yeah, super good. Yes, So let's dig
- 3:07Speaker 1: in all right well. Chesapeake Shores premiered on August fourteenth,
- 3:10Speaker 1: twenty sixteen, on Hallmark Channel, and as you mentioned, the
- 3:13Speaker 1: first episode was movie length at one hour and twenty
- 3:15Speaker 1: one minutes long. So the synopsis Chesapeake Shores follows Abby
- 3:26Speaker 1: O'Brien Winter's, a divorced mother of twins who returns to
- 3:30Speaker 1: her Maryland hometown. When why are you making that the
- 3:33Speaker 1: twins the girls? I don't know if their twins or not.
- 3:37Speaker 1: A divorce mother of two girls for sure, of two
- 3:40Speaker 1: girls for sure, but I don't know if they're twins.
- 3:43Speaker 1: She returns to her Maryland hometown, where, when her sister's
- 3:48Speaker 1: in faces foreclosure, coming back means confronting her fractured family
- 3:53Speaker 1: and reuniting with Trace Riley, the man she left behind
- 3:58Speaker 1: a decade ago. What begins as a reluctant homecoming involves
- 4:02Speaker 1: into an unexpected journey of healing, as Abby rediscovers family
- 4:06Speaker 1: bonds and finding a surprising second chance at love in
- 4:09Speaker 1: the coastal town she once fled. Fun fact The girls
- 4:13Speaker 1: are played by sisters in real life, sisters Abby and
- 4:17Speaker 1: Kayden Magnuson cute not twins or are they twins? We
- 4:22Speaker 1: don't know. They don't have photos on IMDb okay. Chesapeake
- 4:26Speaker 1: Shores was created by Nancy Silvers and John Tinker. Nancy
- 4:29Speaker 1: has thirty one writing credits, including all fifty five episodes
- 4:31Speaker 1: of Chesapeake Shores. In addition, she wrote Love at the
- 4:34Speaker 1: Thanksgiving Day Parade and The Nine Lives of Christmas Hey
- 4:38Speaker 1: Good Movies. John Tinker has eighteen writing credits, and addition
- 4:42Speaker 1: to being credited on all fifty five episodes of Chesapeake Shores,
- 4:46Speaker 1: he also wrote on One Calls the Heart and one
- 4:48Speaker 1: hundred and thirty eight episodes of Judging Amy, for which
- 4:52Speaker 1: he was also the creator. Megan Oor stars as Abby
- 4:56Speaker 1: O'Brien Winters. Megan has forty five acting credits, including a
- 4:59Speaker 1: long running role as Red Riding Hood on Once Upon
- 5:01Speaker 1: a Time, as well as being in the currently airing
- 5:05Speaker 1: series Sullivan's Crossing. I was unaware she was in that show.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Me too, I keep we needing to watch it. Yeah,
- 5:10Speaker 1: another one that I would love to watch yep. Barbara
- 5:14Speaker 1: Nevan plays Megan O'Brien. Although we don't meet her until
- 5:18Speaker 1: the end of the episode, she remains a star of
- 5:21Speaker 1: the series throughout its run. Barbara has one hundred and
- 5:24Speaker 1: fifteen acting credits and can be seen in her role
- 5:27Speaker 1: as Delora Swinson in Hannah Swinson Mystery Movies. Lacy J.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Mailee plays Jess O'Brien. Lacey has thirty one acting credits
- 5:34Speaker 1: and has recently been seen in The Perfect Setting and
- 5:36Speaker 1: Betty's Bad Luck in Love I Actually Love Jess O'Brien.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Emily Ellerupe plays Brie O'Brien. Emily has fifty seven acting
- 5:45Speaker 1: credits for Hallmarks. She was in Retreat to You in
- 5:48Speaker 1: twenty twenty three, and she played the role of Ruby
- 5:51Speaker 1: Frankie in Mormon Mom Gone Wrong The Ruby Frankie Story.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Treat Williams plays Mick O'Brien. Treat has one hundred and
- 5:59Speaker 1: thirty two acting credits, and you might remember him from
- 6:02Speaker 1: his role as doctor Andy Brown on the series Ever
- 6:04Speaker 1: Would in the early two thousands. Before his passing in
- 6:07Speaker 1: twenty twenty three, he was in series like Feud and
- 6:11Speaker 1: Blue Bloods. He was in Blue Bloods. I didn't know that.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Diane Lamb plays Nell O'Brien. Fun fact, Diane will turn
- 6:20Speaker 1: ninety this year and is the mother of Laura Dern,
- 6:24Speaker 1: the actress Laura Dern. Laura Dern. She has a long
- 6:27Speaker 1: resume of one hundred and thirty two acting credits. Jesse
- 6:31Speaker 1: Metcalf has thirty two acting credits, which include the soap
- 6:34Speaker 1: opera Passions, Desperate Housewives, and the Martha's Vineyard Mystery series
- 6:38Speaker 1: or Hallmark What is the soap opera Passions? I'm not
- 6:42Speaker 1: familiar with that. I believe it was a CBS soap opera.
- 6:46Speaker 1: It was like a like a late addition to the
- 6:48Speaker 1: soap opera. Was he young? My goodness, he seems like
- 6:53Speaker 1: such a young pup. Lots of acting credits. Although Brendan
- 6:57Speaker 1: Penny doesn't appear in this particular episode, he plays the
- 7:01Speaker 1: role of Kevin O'Brien in all future episodes. Brendan has
- 7:05Speaker 1: sixty one acting credits and has done a ton of
- 7:08Speaker 1: work since Chesapeake Shores. You can find him in The
- 7:11Speaker 1: Wedding Cottage and Mary Measure, a novel, no Weel, and
- 7:15Speaker 1: a Season for Family, to name just a handful of
- 7:18Speaker 1: his credits. Andrew Francis plays Connor O'Brien like Brendan, his
- 7:22Speaker 1: character is played by another actor. In the pilot of
- 7:24Speaker 1: this series, Andrew has two hundred thirty three credits, although
- 7:27Speaker 1: since Chesapeake Shores he hasn't been seen on Hallmark. Previously, though,
- 7:31Speaker 1: he was in Engaging Father Christmas and Coming Home for Christmas.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Let's take a quick break before we come back for
- 7:38Speaker 1: our first takes on Chesapeake Shores. All right, let's dive
- 7:49Speaker 1: in to chess a big sure, as Wendy, what did
- 7:53Speaker 1: you think? I thought on Chesapeake Shores was wolf like this.
- 8:00Speaker 1: This is a complicated family and I was super into it. Yeah,
- 8:05Speaker 1: you know, last week I was like, oh, I thought good,
- 8:07Speaker 1: which was good? I would like to keep rewatching it
- 8:09Speaker 1: or keep watching it. And I stand by that. But
- 8:11Speaker 1: chess Peak Shores blew it out of the water. I agree,
- 8:14Speaker 1: that's hard agree. Like for a pilot, I thought this
- 8:19Speaker 1: was a standout episode. Yeah, here's if I may. I
- 8:26Speaker 1: think one of the things I really liked is like,
- 8:28Speaker 1: it's kind of they initially paint this like idyllic picture
- 8:30Speaker 1: of Chesapeake Shores right, like it's beautiful. Gran is really
- 8:34Speaker 1: loving and involved. Jess has some like personality quirks, like
- 8:39Speaker 1: she's like the little sister who doesn't have it all together,
- 8:41Speaker 1: but it's not really all that deep. And then as
- 8:43Speaker 1: the episode progresses, they let us in on more and
- 8:47Speaker 1: more about the family and their history and the issues
- 8:50Speaker 1: that they're dealing with, and we there's so much more
- 8:54Speaker 1: to dig through that we don't have all the information about.
- 8:57Speaker 1: We know something's going on with Grand's health. We know
- 9:00Speaker 1: something more happened with just Trace than him just needing
- 9:03Speaker 1: to take a break. Something's going on with the brothers,
- 9:06Speaker 1: like what's their story? There's just so much the mom
- 9:09Speaker 1: to know. Yes, yeah, I agree. I think every character
- 9:16Speaker 1: that we met has more to them than what we see,
- 9:21Speaker 1: Like Mick the dad Trey Williams. At first I kind
- 9:26Speaker 1: of got like a smarmy kind of vibe from him,
- 9:30Speaker 1: and then we do find out like he's not dad
- 9:34Speaker 1: at the year, Yeah, which is kind of cool. I
- 9:37Speaker 1: like that. I'm really interested in why did mom Megan mounce,
- 9:44Speaker 1: Like what happened there? I love kind of the realization
- 9:48Speaker 1: that Abby's real similar to her dad, and like her
- 9:55Speaker 1: realizing that and what problems that causes her personally. I'm
- 10:01Speaker 1: less interested in the whole Abby and Trace of it all.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Oh maybe that will become more interesting to me. But
- 10:09Speaker 1: in this particular episode, it was like more about the
- 10:12Speaker 1: family that I was interested in. I like all three sisters,
- 10:19Speaker 1: and I like that. Of course, we have Jess, who's
- 10:23Speaker 1: you know, like you said, she's kind of quirky. I mean,
- 10:25Speaker 1: she's obviously the youngest. I wonder how old she's supposed
- 10:28Speaker 1: to be. I think she do you think do you
- 10:30Speaker 1: think they closed her in mid twenties? But to own,
- 10:33Speaker 1: like she bought that house and stuff is kind of impressive. Yeah,
- 10:36Speaker 1: but she obviously has tension with her dad and has
- 10:39Speaker 1: a lot of tension with her mom. Very interested to
- 10:43Speaker 1: see how that unfolds. The playwright sister who comes. I
- 10:47Speaker 1: loved her. I thought she was super funny. What's her story?
- 10:50Speaker 1: Why did she run away from Chesapeake Shores? And that
- 10:53Speaker 1: goes back to Abby too, Why did Abbey run away
- 10:55Speaker 1: from Chesapeake Shores? And then of course I really loved
- 10:59Speaker 1: how they the entire episode ends, like we get a
- 11:02Speaker 1: glimpse of the mom retorney, and then a glimpse of
- 11:04Speaker 1: the two brothers, like we don't even know anything about that. Yeah,
- 11:07Speaker 1: Like I thought that was really smartly done. Yeah, they're there,
- 11:11Speaker 1: they're introduced and that's it. Yeah, it's I'm mom back. Yeah.
- 11:14Speaker 1: I thought that was cool. Some more things that I liked,
- 11:17Speaker 1: you know, you know watching this that we know Abby's
- 11:20Speaker 1: coming back home, Like m hmm. This show's called chest
- 11:22Speaker 1: Peak Shores, and I like that the path that they
- 11:25Speaker 1: take to get her there makes sense. It's not like
- 11:27Speaker 1: I'm going to give up my high powered career and
- 11:28Speaker 1: run the town bakery. Right. She's like, I'm still gonna
- 11:31Speaker 1: do that. I'm just gonna do it in a way
- 11:33Speaker 1: that makes a little more sense for me to be here.
- 11:35Speaker 1: I was like, thank you, I buy it. Some moments
- 11:39Speaker 1: that like really hit me in the heart. The girl's
- 11:41Speaker 1: talking about their grandmother Megan and saying she knows you
- 11:44Speaker 1: don't have time for that mom stuff. I gotta tell you,
- 11:47Speaker 1: I cannot stand the narrative that Abby isn't at present mother, Like,
- 11:53Speaker 1: of course we see her, she's like this battie at work, right,
- 11:57Speaker 1: But there was like a lot of things like oh,
- 12:00Speaker 1: you miss this or you miss that. I don't like
- 12:03Speaker 1: that because obviously Abby's husband is a kind of a
- 12:07Speaker 1: pos right, so Abby's got to like do what she's
- 12:10Speaker 1: got to do, and sometimes you have to miss your kids. Things.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I just it. It hurts my heart that they like
- 12:16Speaker 1: put that on her. You know. I thought it was
- 12:19Speaker 1: kind of mixed messaging because I did like when her
- 12:21Speaker 1: dad came to her rescue and he was like, your
- 12:23Speaker 1: mom's working hard to provide for you guys. And we know,
- 12:25Speaker 1: like the dad has lost his job. Someone's got to work,
- 12:27Speaker 1: someone's got to provide for these girls, right. But I
- 12:30Speaker 1: thought they did a nice job of making it clear
- 12:33Speaker 1: that her character really cared about her girls, like she
- 12:37Speaker 1: was a super present mother in spite of being maybe
- 12:41Speaker 1: physically absent at times. Yeah, in that opening scene where
- 12:45Speaker 1: she's like the little girls like don't we have personalized too,
- 12:49Speaker 1: and she's like, you're right, I should have to haul
- 12:51Speaker 1: you out of bed, like I'll get the neighbor to come.
- 12:53Speaker 1: She was putting her girl's nates first. Sure that is
- 12:56Speaker 1: the reality. Sometimes being a good mom means going to work. Yeah, money, Definitely.
- 13:01Speaker 1: I didn't love the you fully missed the recital like,
- 13:07Speaker 1: but that being said, I also thought that was such
- 13:10Speaker 1: a sweet moment when the girls performed from Oh my Gosh.
- 13:14Speaker 1: I loved it and grand and Mick I thought that
- 13:17Speaker 1: was really sweet and I was like, oh, it's giving
- 13:19Speaker 1: Hallmark Braverman's. Braverman's is a great comparison. Parenthood is the
- 13:25Speaker 1: show NBC. It's on Netflix, I think now. But yeah,
- 13:30Speaker 1: complicated families, Yeah, complicated families. Yeah. I really enjoyed grand
- 13:36Speaker 1: And I know I've talked about this when we have
- 13:38Speaker 1: reviewed other movies in the past, where we get sort
- 13:41Speaker 1: of a generational character that is very involved, like a
- 13:45Speaker 1: grandparent that's involved in the family dynamic. It doesn't it's
- 13:49Speaker 1: not really present in my life. So I like to
- 13:51Speaker 1: see it on TV. It's just so nice to have
- 13:56Speaker 1: like a this matriarch figure. I like Gran. I was
- 14:02Speaker 1: worried about Gran's health. I'm I've seen the next couple
- 14:06Speaker 1: episodes gran is health wise is you know, she's credited
- 14:11Speaker 1: in quite a few episodes throughout the series, so she's
- 14:13Speaker 1: not going anywhere anytime soon, right, But yeah, I'm a
- 14:18Speaker 1: little worried about grand too. Uh. Some funny things I
- 14:22Speaker 1: thought about this episode, Abby saying I'm on a juice
- 14:25Speaker 1: cleanse and Grant saying, oh, I'll make a note of that. Yeah, funny.
- 14:28Speaker 1: There are a lot of funny lines. Yeah, you know
- 14:32Speaker 1: when they talk about when she asks me, she's like oh,
- 14:35Speaker 1: do you have a psychologist too? She's like, no, I
- 14:37Speaker 1: have a psychiatrist because I needed the extra degree. Yeah. Yeah,
- 14:41Speaker 1: I thought when the three sisters were together they were golden.
- 14:45Speaker 1: They were so good, they played so well off of
- 14:48Speaker 1: each other and whatever. Whoever, Well, I guess it's Nancy Silvers,
- 14:52Speaker 1: who's writing for them was really good, really really good.
- 14:56Speaker 1: There are some funny things that like said this in time,
- 14:59Speaker 1: like when Abbey says the dating sites are dangerous. Oh yeah,
- 15:02Speaker 1: and then she calls four to one one to get
- 15:04Speaker 1: the therapist's phone numbers. Yeah, that's funny too. I mean,
- 15:07Speaker 1: it's twenty sixteen this came out. I mean, I who
- 15:12Speaker 1: calls four one one anymore? Does four one four one
- 15:14Speaker 1: one evening? I wondered the same thing. But I used
- 15:16Speaker 1: to call four on one all the time. I know
- 15:18Speaker 1: me too, But you wouldn't just be like, give me
- 15:21Speaker 1: a therapist in Chesapeake Shores, anybody name? Oh that's right, Sorry,
- 15:25Speaker 1: it's not calling a cab company. Yeah, that's funny. I
- 15:28Speaker 1: did think the thing about the dating sites was funny
- 15:32Speaker 1: because I think she even said it. I think she
- 15:34Speaker 1: even said the names of them. Did she say tender?
- 15:37Speaker 1: I thought she did say tender and match. Yes, yes,
- 15:40Speaker 1: which I was kind of shocked about mingle all the
- 15:44Speaker 1: way guys. Anyway, Yeah, there were a lot of positives
- 15:48Speaker 1: in my first take. Actually, I don't think I had
- 15:50Speaker 1: any like negatives, no, wishes, No, not really. Typically let's
- 15:55Speaker 1: talk the Hallmark test. Is it given Hallmark? Well? I
- 16:00Speaker 1: have thought about this, and in one sense it does
- 16:06Speaker 1: give Hallmark to me, Like especially like little sister calls
- 16:11Speaker 1: big sister to come help me because my in my foreclothes,
- 16:15Speaker 1: my bed and breakfast whatever. I mean, that's so typical Hallmark. Right.
- 16:21Speaker 1: But on the flip side, where a story with such
- 16:26Speaker 1: complicated family dynamics, I'm like, the only thing that I
- 16:29Speaker 1: can compare it to is The Way Home. I think
- 16:33Speaker 1: the Way Home is probably it's obviously different in terms
- 16:38Speaker 1: of the overall stories it's telling, but kind of the
- 16:42Speaker 1: same blueprint of fractured relationships between family members and trying
- 16:48Speaker 1: to navigate all that stuff moving forward. So yes, it
- 16:51Speaker 1: gives the Hallmark test for me? What about you? Yeah?
- 16:54Speaker 1: For me, I think you're right. They're tackling heavier issues here, divorce,
- 16:59Speaker 1: parental abandonment. They talk about therapy more than once, But
- 17:03Speaker 1: I think it's all painted with a very Hallmark wash.
- 17:07Speaker 1: You know. Megan or swims in are closed twice, oh
- 17:10Speaker 1: when they're skinny to be light. Yeah, Like Jesse's Medcalft
- 17:14Speaker 1: strips down into his boxers and she's in like a
- 17:16Speaker 1: tank top and shorts. Twice she does it. I also think,
- 17:21Speaker 1: you know they she talks about her ex husband, like
- 17:23Speaker 1: he lost his job and lost a bunch of money
- 17:25Speaker 1: for people, and it's just like kind of mentioned and
- 17:27Speaker 1: then everything has kind of a lightwash of like it'll
- 17:30Speaker 1: all be okay, do it. I feel like it definitely
- 17:34Speaker 1: has Hallmark on it, but I think they are digging
- 17:38Speaker 1: a little deeper than they would on a movie. Yeah,
- 17:40Speaker 1: I agree. Is about the cast, right, I like watching
- 17:43Speaker 1: the series now as opposed to in real time because
- 17:48Speaker 1: I know so many of these characters and so seeing them,
- 17:52Speaker 1: I'm like, there's Lacey Maylee, there's Lee Ullra, There's Brendon Penny.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Like just getting to see them in this series, I mean,
- 17:59Speaker 1: it's it's a pretty stellar cast. There's Barbara Niven. Yeah,
- 18:03Speaker 1: I think overall it's a strong cast, really strong cast.
- 18:07Speaker 1: I agree with you. I said it earlier, but I
- 18:10Speaker 1: really like the casting of the three sisters. I think
- 18:13Speaker 1: they all have like these striking blue eyes, Like I
- 18:15Speaker 1: could I buy that they're all related, that they are sisters.
- 18:19Speaker 1: I kind of have a problem with Jesse metcals. Okay,
- 18:23Speaker 1: it's only because in my mind I see Abby Meganry
- 18:29Speaker 1: as kind of sophisticated, huh, and I see Jesse Metcalf
- 18:33Speaker 1: as kind of younger. Well, I don't go together to
- 18:38Speaker 1: do you think he's ever going to get the young
- 18:41Speaker 1: hot gardener off of him? That's my first impression of him. Yes,
- 18:45Speaker 1: that's a Desperate Housewise reference, y'all, where he was like
- 18:48Speaker 1: a was he a teenager? I think barely legal? Gross?
- 18:53Speaker 1: I think that's my memory of him. Yes, so he
- 18:56Speaker 1: always feels very young. He always feels like the young
- 18:58Speaker 1: guy in town. Wasn't he also y Tucker and John
- 19:01Speaker 1: Tucker Must Die and he was like super douchey oh,
- 19:03Speaker 1: I don't know age boy in that movie too, Like yeah,
- 19:07Speaker 1: like he kind of has like this like stink on
- 19:10Speaker 1: him from They just Don't strike you as peers. No, yeah, no,
- 19:15Speaker 1: like I could maybe by that when they were in
- 19:17Speaker 1: high school together, they could have been like a match,
- 19:21Speaker 1: But now that she seems just far more sophisticated to him,
- 19:24Speaker 1: like she's in New York, she's doing her things, she
- 19:25Speaker 1: has two children, she is now divorced, like, and he's
- 19:31Speaker 1: you know, returned home kind of down on his luck.
- 19:34Speaker 1: This is the character I'm having the most trouble with
- 19:36Speaker 1: because he's super hot. Obviously there's a connection between him
- 19:41Speaker 1: and Abbey. The two of them are like all cuddled
- 19:43Speaker 1: up on the key art for the show. There's things
- 19:49Speaker 1: I like about his character, like he's supportive of Jess.
- 19:51Speaker 1: He's helping her out. You know. Abby's like, oh, let
- 19:54Speaker 1: me pay for that, and he's like she and I'll
- 19:55Speaker 1: work it out, and like we'll figure it out. I
- 19:56Speaker 1: like that. Yeah, but he's I having a ton of
- 20:00Speaker 1: resentment towards Abbey for the fact that their relationship as
- 20:04Speaker 1: children who were just out of high school didn't last. Yeah,
- 20:07Speaker 1: and they were babies, and that's what happens when she
- 20:12Speaker 1: went to college, Like he never moved on in his
- 20:15Speaker 1: years that he was away from Chesapeake, that he was
- 20:18Speaker 1: in Nashville. I mean, come on, Like, yes, she left,
- 20:21Speaker 1: she went to college, she moved away, and like, oh,
- 20:23Speaker 1: you went to New York and you tried to get
- 20:25Speaker 1: her and you found out that she was engaged. Well,
- 20:27Speaker 1: it's not as if you went to New York the
- 20:29Speaker 1: week after she left. She had had time to move
- 20:32Speaker 1: away and find someone and develop a relationship. And so
- 20:35Speaker 1: the fact that you finally realized that this is what
- 20:37Speaker 1: you wanted, I just I just don't think there's a
- 20:40Speaker 1: lot of resentment to be had there, totally. I agree.
- 20:43Speaker 1: I agree, interestingly enough, like the Kevin and O'Connor O'Brien
- 20:48Speaker 1: characters are not played by the characters who play them.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Did not realize that. I when I saw them get
- 20:53Speaker 1: out of the cab, I was like, that doesn't look
- 20:54Speaker 1: like Brendan Penny, and so then I looked it up.
- 20:56Speaker 1: And so we don't really get to know them, and
- 20:59Speaker 1: we wouldn't even if it had been them. But I'm
- 21:02Speaker 1: very intrigued by the two of them. You have this
- 21:05Speaker 1: note here back to Jesse Metcalf. He only appears in
- 21:09Speaker 1: thirty seven of the fifty five episodes. So now you
- 21:13Speaker 1: question he's not Abby's endgame. Well, that's a question I'm asking.
- 21:16Speaker 1: I don't know, But also is it because there are
- 21:19Speaker 1: so many more family dynamics going on here, Like, is
- 21:22Speaker 1: it simply possible that he's just not involved in every episode.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Oh maybe, I mean, I don't know if he's I
- 21:28Speaker 1: didn't look deeply enough, like is he in one through
- 21:30Speaker 1: thirty seven? Yeah? Or is he is there you know
- 21:33Speaker 1: a couple episodes each season that he's not in. Yeah,
- 21:36Speaker 1: great question. So those who have watched the series, we
- 21:39Speaker 1: need you to email us and I'll look on IMDb
- 21:41Speaker 1: also don't yeah, email us, email us. But also like
- 21:45Speaker 1: maybe he goes back out on tour and she's back
- 21:47Speaker 1: at home. There's a lot of reasons why they end
- 21:49Speaker 1: up together and he's not in the show. I just
- 21:53Speaker 1: just wondered. Very very interesting, I gotta say. Also, seeing
- 21:59Speaker 1: Treat Williams, it makes me so sad for his untimely death.
- 22:03Speaker 1: It's incredibly tragic. He's such a good actor, and like
- 22:08Speaker 1: I said earlier, like I got vibes from him like
- 22:10Speaker 1: he was like not a good dude when he's talking
- 22:14Speaker 1: about the church and his plans and how like that
- 22:16Speaker 1: guy is questioning what he's going to do with that historia.
- 22:19Speaker 1: It was almost it was very politician e like I've
- 22:23Speaker 1: been a part of this town for my entire life,
- 22:25Speaker 1: exactly I can be trusted with what's going to happen,
- 22:27Speaker 1: and it was just like he was talking in circles
- 22:30Speaker 1: a little bit and not really saying anything. Yeah, so
- 22:34Speaker 1: I wonder if, like, does he turn out to be
- 22:37Speaker 1: like a great guy or is he comp complicated like throughout?
- 22:42Speaker 1: And then I gotta tell you, first of all, Robert
- 22:45Speaker 1: Nevin is one of the most beautiful women truly, And
- 22:49Speaker 1: I know we have joked about it in when we
- 22:52Speaker 1: were viewing Hannah Swinton, but her skincare is next level
- 22:56Speaker 1: to me. I'm watching this show in HD and she
- 23:00Speaker 1: just looks flawless. I need the details anyway, I'm so
- 23:07Speaker 1: interested in this story of why a mom leaves her family. Now,
- 23:13Speaker 1: you and I know somebody who left their kid right
- 23:18Speaker 1: and has always like boggled our mind. Oh yeah, like
- 23:22Speaker 1: who does that? What is the driving force behind that?
- 23:26Speaker 1: And so in kind of the same situation with this, right,
- 23:29Speaker 1: she goes off to New York or wherever. I need
- 23:34Speaker 1: to know the backstory. I will say, as I watched
- 23:37Speaker 1: this episode, it was weird, like at the end, how
- 23:40Speaker 1: she's like hanging around like she comes because Grann was
- 23:46Speaker 1: in the hospital. Right, Mick calls her and tells her
- 23:50Speaker 1: it's not her mom, Right, Grann is mixed mom, that's
- 23:53Speaker 1: my understanding. Okay. So I'm like, why would she come back? Okay? Yeah, fine,
- 23:58Speaker 1: she wants to make sure that Gran is okay. But
- 24:01Speaker 1: she is like not warmly welcomed by her children other
- 24:06Speaker 1: than Abby, other than Abby, And I'm like, I need
- 24:09Speaker 1: to know more and have no frand does say to Mick, like,
- 24:13Speaker 1: she left because you chased her off. You gave her
- 24:16Speaker 1: no choice? What does that happen? Yeah? What did he
- 24:20Speaker 1: do to create that dynamic? How do you not leave
- 24:24Speaker 1: with your without your children? I just really want to
- 24:29Speaker 1: see it unfold. M h That's all I got. Keeping
- 24:32Speaker 1: her skip it? Are you gonna keep watching? Well? I
- 24:35Speaker 1: already told you in another episode, our mail Bag episode. Yeah,
- 24:39Speaker 1: last night I watched like the next three episodes. Yeah,
- 24:42Speaker 1: And I didn't watch the closely. It's not like I'm
- 24:44Speaker 1: reviewing these, it's just it's on. I'm like casually watching it.
- 24:50Speaker 1: I would definitely watch the show. I don't know. Why.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Do you remember way back when we started Girls Gone
- 24:55Speaker 1: Hallmark and it was like the summer and we were like, oh,
- 24:57Speaker 1: should we do Chesapeake Shores review because we could like
- 25:00Speaker 1: work ahead a little bit. Yeah, and our very few
- 25:04Speaker 1: listeners at that time were like not interested. Yeah, which
- 25:07Speaker 1: is seems so different to me now because it seems
- 25:10Speaker 1: like the emails and the messaging that we've been getting
- 25:13Speaker 1: is this is this was the best show on Hallmark. Yes,
- 25:16Speaker 1: you should review it. Yeah. Kind of surprised by all
- 25:20Speaker 1: of that. Yeah, So maybe it was just like those
- 25:23Speaker 1: three listeners before weren't into it. I don't know. Yeah,
- 25:26Speaker 1: very curious what people think about that. I am all
- 25:28Speaker 1: in on this show. I love the cast, I love
- 25:30Speaker 1: the story that they're telling, I love the setting. I'm
- 25:32Speaker 1: drawn in by the first episode. There are so many
- 25:35Speaker 1: Hallmark favorites who become regulars on this show. Robert Buckley,
- 25:39Speaker 1: Carlo Marx, Gregory Harrison, Stephen who's our Jessica Sipos. So
- 25:43Speaker 1: all of that makes me want to keep watching. Agary
- 25:45Speaker 1: Harrison from SSD. Yeah, is he coming? I don't know.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Maybe he's a Barbara Niven, Meghan love Interest, Stephen who's
- 25:52Speaker 1: our Stephen? Who's our this is your shirt on? Sorry?
- 25:56Speaker 1: I can't you know, can't help it, can't help it. Wait,
- 26:00Speaker 1: Robert Buckley not Junior? Who does he come on? Well?
- 26:03Speaker 1: Can I say something? Yeah, because when we were starting
- 26:06Speaker 1: this First Impression series. I reached out on Instagram and said, hey,
- 26:10Speaker 1: what do you think of these two series? And we
- 26:13Speaker 1: got some comments, and I'd like to share one from
- 26:15Speaker 1: Cheryl who says, just speak Shores, another series I watched
- 26:18Speaker 1: faithfully and loved more in the beginning than the end.
- 26:22Speaker 1: I definitely think it suffered when Jesse Metcalf left, though
- 26:26Speaker 1: I personally loved Robert Buckley, so reading between the lines,
- 26:30Speaker 1: I'm assuming that Robert Buckley becomes a love interest for
- 26:33Speaker 1: Abby again. Another weird he looks so young. I'm not
- 26:36Speaker 1: saying she looks old. She is sophistic sophisticated. She's sophisticated.
- 26:42Speaker 1: To me, he feels kind of like One Tree Hill.
- 26:46Speaker 1: Oh see, I didn't watch One Tree Hill, so I
- 26:48Speaker 1: don't have that Robert Buckley association. I only have his
- 26:51Speaker 1: Hallmark associations. Cheryl was on to say solid family drama
- 26:54Speaker 1: felt like watching a real family and how siblings interact
- 26:57Speaker 1: treat Williams and Barbara Niven were great together. I really
- 27:01Speaker 1: liked when Gregory Harrison appeared. I wish he was in
- 27:03Speaker 1: more episodes. My least favorite character by far was Abby,
- 27:08Speaker 1: likely many people's favorite. She was just so put upon,
- 27:13Speaker 1: righteous and whiny. For me, MM loved Brendan Penny and
- 27:18Speaker 1: Emily ullerup Kevin and Brie. Kevin was a flawed hero
- 27:21Speaker 1: and Bree was a breath of fresh air and lightness.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Lacey Maylee as Jess was better with Carlo slash David.
- 27:28Speaker 1: I loved him, Andrew. I don't think the character was
- 27:31Speaker 1: there or not there. It made too much of an impact.
- 27:35Speaker 1: That's the final brother. Oh, I can tell you now
- 27:38Speaker 1: that I've watched the first two or three episodes, I
- 27:40Speaker 1: don't like that other brother at all. O'Connor like he
- 27:43Speaker 1: needs to reel it in. Interesting. One more comment from
- 27:48Speaker 1: fellow podcaster Darra of Dear Hallmark, who says Chesapeake Shores
- 27:51Speaker 1: was the best series on Hallmark period. Those are big words.
- 27:57Speaker 1: Those are big words, yes, especially because the Way Home
- 27:59Speaker 1: is so incredible. So are you going to continue to
- 28:04Speaker 1: watch it? I'd like to if you listen to our
- 28:06Speaker 1: other episodes. You know that the list of things we
- 28:08Speaker 1: need to watch personally and professionally is long. But I
- 28:12Speaker 1: would very much like to continue watching this show. Yeah,
- 28:15Speaker 1: me too. I need to know from the listeners, like
- 28:18Speaker 1: how strongly do they want us to review it. Oh
- 28:23Speaker 1: your look was like, oh no, I mean it's not
- 28:25Speaker 1: happening in June. No no, no, no, no no no, no,
- 28:29Speaker 1: no no, And honestly might not happen till January next year,
- 28:32Speaker 1: twenty twenty six, truly, just simply be with the holiday,
- 28:36Speaker 1: like we cannot add a holiday and the holidays are
- 28:40Speaker 1: too crazy mm hmmm. And nobody's going to be listening
- 28:42Speaker 1: to that in the holidays exactly, So maybe in January.
- 28:46Speaker 1: I know that sounds like a long time, but January
- 28:48Speaker 1: is the best time the calendar on the calendar for it.
- 28:50Speaker 1: If you want it, let us know. But who knows,
- 28:52Speaker 1: Like what's next week's episode? Oh, when Calls the Heart
- 28:55Speaker 1: is next week When Calls the Heart? I can watch that.
- 28:58Speaker 1: I'll tell you right now we will not be doing
- 29:00Speaker 1: a one Calls the Heart rewatch, I'm telling you right now.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Would it blow your mind if I came to you
- 29:05Speaker 1: and I was like, I'm all in a Wind Calls
- 29:08Speaker 1: the hearten, I don't know what you do when there's
- 29:10Speaker 1: a fifty to fifty vote, Wind Calls the Heart with
- 29:12Speaker 1: Wendy a former Wendy Calls the Heart. All right, thank
- 29:21Speaker 1: you for listening to this episode of Girls Gone Hamework,
- 29:23Speaker 1: a Bramble Dam podcast. That's it for our first impression
- 29:27Speaker 1: of chest Peak Shores. Now go for me your own.
- 29:29Speaker 1: We'll be back with more Hallmark reviews next time. Goodbye bye,
- 29:45Speaker 1: all right friends, before we go, just a quick heads up.
- 29:48Speaker 1: You're about to hear some ads die. Little gems help
- 29:50Speaker 1: us keep the show running and the Hallmark love flowing.
- 29:53Speaker 1: So do with that info what you will. Grab a snack,
- 29:57Speaker 1: hit the skip button or maybe, just maybe then and
- 30:00Speaker 1: discover your new favorite product. May
