- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds is back. What's going on. Everybody is
- 0:15Speaker 1: Jeff Moser and Adam Kaplan and the Eagles are keeping
- 0:18Speaker 1: this busy making moves, and you know, it's the first
- 0:21Speaker 1: time he and Adam done a pod in a little bit,
- 0:23Speaker 1: and we're excited to go through a couple of things.
- 0:26Speaker 1: We're gonna go back inside this whole Eagles wide receiver situation.
- 0:30Speaker 1: We've got some little more intel on Wix and just
- 0:32Speaker 1: the overall makeup of the room. We're gonna go through
- 0:35Speaker 1: their draft picks and what they now have because that
- 0:37Speaker 1: draft is right around the corner. And you know, we've
- 0:40Speaker 1: got our shows previewing each prospect by position with Greg
- 0:44Speaker 1: Cosell inside the intel with Greg Cosell that's been going
- 0:48Speaker 1: up on our platform, and then we'll talk again about
- 0:51Speaker 1: what the Eagles need for the future as all these
- 0:53Speaker 1: things combined. Adam, you know, I haven't had a chance
- 0:56Speaker 1: to really to talk to you since on this platform,
- 0:59Speaker 1: at least since the Egos acquired Dontavian Wicks. And you know,
- 1:03Speaker 1: we spent a lot of time talking maybe two or
- 1:05Speaker 1: three or four weeks ago about the dangers of trading
- 1:08Speaker 1: aj Brown and what the situation would look like how
- 1:11Speaker 1: bleak it would be. But then we would also say, hey,
- 1:13Speaker 1: even if they bring back AJ Brown, their depth at
- 1:17Speaker 1: wide receiver has been an issue for a couple of
- 1:19Speaker 1: years now. They've they've been managing to get by. But
- 1:23Speaker 1: now you get in a situation here where whatever happens
- 1:27Speaker 1: with AJ Brown, if he winds up coming back, you
- 1:29Speaker 1: actually kind of look at the depth and you say,
- 1:31Speaker 1: you got some guys that can step in there and play. Yeah,
- 1:34Speaker 1: still an issue if you trade AJ Brown, but not
- 1:36Speaker 1: maybe as bleak as it would have looked three or
- 1:39Speaker 1: four weeks ago.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Right, So you know, I believe strongly it's going to happen.
- 1:43Speaker 2: We don't ever do percentages. That's a complete liste of time,
- 1:46Speaker 2: but a lot of smart people are and like think
- 1:50Speaker 2: Brown's going to be traded now, whether it's the Patriots
- 1:53Speaker 2: or the front Runner or somebody else. After June first,
- 1:56Speaker 2: makes the most sense to handle the cap issue so
- 1:59Speaker 2: they don't have to take the forty million ish forty
- 2:02Speaker 2: million ish at once. You could split over two seasons.
- 2:05Speaker 2: That's what the June first rule is. Post June one,
- 2:08Speaker 2: June second, you could split it. So with him on
- 2:11Speaker 2: the roster, we'll just kind of move this forward here
- 2:13Speaker 2: because I know you have some information on Wis and
- 2:15Speaker 2: I could add something else, which kind of surprised me,
- 2:17Speaker 2: because we like to talk to people after big things happen.
- 2:21Speaker 2: We tell you what we initially know. But when we
- 2:24Speaker 2: call around the league and you find out whether it's
- 2:25Speaker 2: coaches for an off executives, they it's interesting the stuff
- 2:28Speaker 2: that they have.
- 2:28Speaker 3: You never know what you're going to get when you call.
- 2:30Speaker 2: So anyway, so at the exposition right now, it's Brown
- 2:33Speaker 2: and Wicks, it's Johnny Wilson coming back from a major
- 2:37Speaker 2: knee injury. So if they trade Brown, it's Wis, it's Wilson,
- 2:46Speaker 2: and you're you're talking about draft that I would bet
- 2:49Speaker 2: the house that they would draft somebody. I don't think
- 2:51Speaker 2: there's any question the drafting somebody agreed, and that'd be
- 2:56Speaker 2: the exposition right now.
- 2:57Speaker 3: That's pretty much it.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, I think that the thing we've talked
- 3:00Speaker 1: about a lot is if you trade AJ Brown, do
- 3:04Speaker 1: you have somebody that can line up and give you
- 3:07Speaker 1: honest reps at the X spot? And that's something down
- 3:11Speaker 1: Davian Wicks can do. And this is a guy you
- 3:14Speaker 1: know a couple of years ago you and I both
- 3:15Speaker 1: felt I remember we did a fantasy show and we said,
- 3:19Speaker 1: don't hold it. We thought he was a rising star
- 3:21Speaker 1: because the year before this is like two years ago,
- 3:24Speaker 1: basically had he had some really nice games. They had
- 3:27Speaker 1: some injuries to the wide receiver position. They put him
- 3:29Speaker 1: in there. He did well. He was really good at
- 3:31Speaker 1: using his body, contested catches, going up and getting the ball.
- 3:35Speaker 1: But it didn't quite materialize for him the way we
- 3:39Speaker 1: thought it was in Green Bay. But I think, as
- 3:42Speaker 1: I texted you, I like the kids talent, you just
- 3:46Speaker 1: don't love the inconsistency.
- 3:48Speaker 2: And that's exactly he's really not a starting quality player.
- 3:51Speaker 2: The more information I got, he flashed like three years
- 3:56Speaker 2: ago ago.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Yeah, it was this rookie yearie year. He had five yard.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Fantasy community and I was the only one this is.
- 4:05Speaker 2: It was on the Fantasy channel. I said, guys, be careful.
- 4:08Speaker 2: They've got a big room. They've got a lot of guys.
- 4:09Speaker 2: I kept adding to it, you know, Matthew, Matthew Golden
- 4:12Speaker 2: last year, don't just be careful. There's a reason why
- 4:15Speaker 2: guys are drafted and why they dry. He should have
- 4:17Speaker 2: been going the third round. He had a terrible forty
- 4:19Speaker 2: times yep, four six two. But uh, the coaches I
- 4:23Speaker 2: spoke with over the weekend loved his college date understaid
- 4:27Speaker 2: he's not fast, long strider okay, short hair quickness, big body,
- 4:32Speaker 2: run after the catch, good fit for a West Coast offense.
- 4:35Speaker 2: But on your point, there's a major inconsistency with Flair,
- 4:38Speaker 2: and the problem is he was given chance after chance.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Matthew Golden got hurt last year yep, okay, Jane Reed
- 4:44Speaker 2: spick an injury, Jane Reied got hurt, Christian Watson got hurt.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Now, I understand when you move a guy off.
- 4:51Speaker 2: From your fourth spot to your or number two spot
- 4:54Speaker 2: or some times of the fifth spot, that's a big
- 4:57Speaker 2: jump and unfortunately just didn't work for him last season.
- 5:01Speaker 2: So hands inconsistent, pretty good route runner from talking to
- 5:05Speaker 2: multiple coaches, But you're just seeing inconsistency. Yeah, you and
- 5:09Speaker 2: I kind of see it the same way. It's just
- 5:10Speaker 2: not a starting quality player's probably best office of three.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Now can he fill in if they let's say they
- 5:16Speaker 2: draft they trade Brown or they have an agreement before
- 5:19Speaker 2: the draft, but it doesn't consummate until June second and
- 5:24Speaker 2: they draft somebody, Well, well, to me, if they trade,
- 5:28Speaker 2: if they have an agreement on trading Brown, you're drafting
- 5:32Speaker 2: someone if it's the second rounder.
- 5:34Speaker 3: Your second rounders to start a round.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Not all second rounders come in and start, but to me,
- 5:38Speaker 2: it would be to me, it's more of a receiver
- 5:41Speaker 2: by committee. You just there's nothing to show that Wix
- 5:45Speaker 2: could be a consistent player. Well, this is over four years.
- 5:47Speaker 2: I understand circumstances or sometimes out of their control, but
- 5:50Speaker 2: it does concern me last season in particular, when there
- 5:53Speaker 2: was a great chance for him get to come up
- 5:55Speaker 2: big and it just didn't happen.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree, And it's a good opportunity to come
- 5:59Speaker 1: to the E. He knows the offense, so his assimilation
- 6:03Speaker 1: shouldn't be very difficult. I think it's another sign that
- 6:06Speaker 1: a lot of what the new offensive coordinator, Sean Mannon
- 6:09Speaker 1: is going to do is going to come from the
- 6:12Speaker 1: Green Bay school and he can play that position. I
- 6:15Speaker 1: agree with you. It's not nothing is being handed to
- 6:17Speaker 1: him at all. But he did get a contract extension,
- 6:19Speaker 1: so he's gonna play a role. And look, he averaged Yeah,
- 6:23Speaker 1: he'll have a role. He averaged fourteen point nine yards
- 6:25Speaker 1: per reception as a rookie that in retrospect now was
- 6:28Speaker 1: probably a little bit of the anomaly. He's been around
- 6:31Speaker 1: ten or eleven the last two years, but there's no
- 6:33Speaker 1: question that when you pair him with Jalen Hurts, who
- 6:36Speaker 1: likes to throw the deep ball outside the numbers, there's
- 6:39Speaker 1: a good opportunity for him to make a couple of
- 6:41Speaker 1: plays per game.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Right.
- 6:43Speaker 1: He may not be the most consistent guy in the world,
- 6:45Speaker 1: but he can still. I remember Quaes Watkins made a
- 6:47Speaker 1: couple of plays a game for them few years ago. Now,
- 6:50Speaker 1: he obviously blew in the Super Bowl, but the point
- 6:53Speaker 1: is depth. And again, one thing I was told about
- 6:56Speaker 1: on Tavian Wicks, and this is an interesting pattern, right,
- 7:01Speaker 1: Howie Roseman liked Dantavian Wicks a lot coming out of Virginia.
- 7:04Speaker 3: Ah drat that matters. I didn't know that it does.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, always right now, he didn't get an opportunity.
- 7:12Speaker 1: I don't think the Eagles had a fifth round pick
- 7:16Speaker 1: that year. I'd have to go back and check twenty
- 7:20Speaker 1: twenty three. Did the Eagles have a fifth round pick
- 7:21Speaker 1: that year? Let me go take a quick look. I
- 7:26Speaker 1: know that's the year they got Jalen Carter in the
- 7:28Speaker 1: first round, and then.
- 7:28Speaker 3: They did they did.
- 7:31Speaker 1: I wonder, No, no fifth round pick, isn't they didn't.
- 7:34Speaker 3: Have a fifth No, they did not. I'm sorry, yes, fifth.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Right, and that's the round that Wix went in. So
- 7:38Speaker 1: obviously how we liked him, didn't have an opportunity to
- 7:41Speaker 1: pick him. But how many guys have we talked about
- 7:44Speaker 1: that how we liked I mean, Marquise Brown is actually
- 7:47Speaker 1: one of those guys who was connected to the Eagles,
- 7:50Speaker 1: and a lot of guys who have taken thirty visits
- 7:52Speaker 1: with the Eagles but didn't. Arnold Ebaghetty good example, right,
- 7:57Speaker 1: didn't wind up playing for him. How we just has
- 8:00Speaker 1: a pension for going to get guys who was interested
- 8:02Speaker 1: in a little bit later in their careers if they
- 8:04Speaker 1: weren't Egle. So it'll be interesting I mean again, good
- 8:08Speaker 1: role deeper.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Now.
- 8:10Speaker 1: The one thing we have to question, though, is how
- 8:13Speaker 1: it all fits from a numbers standpoint, because there is
- 8:17Speaker 1: no special team's history. I think it's like one percent.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Dantavian Wicks is not a special teamer him, Hollywood Brown
- 8:26Speaker 1: not much of a special teamer. I think Eli Elijah
- 8:29Speaker 1: Moore we said, does some returns, right, but he's not
- 8:31Speaker 1: like a core special teamer if I'm if I'm mistaken.
- 8:36Speaker 1: So I think it's really still a very good opportunity
- 8:39Speaker 1: Adam for Darius Cooper in year two to really, you know,
- 8:43Speaker 1: impress the coaches, show what he can do.
- 8:45Speaker 3: You know what they do if as traded, and do
- 8:48Speaker 3: they draft somebody. Yeah, I was.
- 8:50Speaker 1: I was sort of under under this discussion that AJ
- 8:54Speaker 1: is more likely to be traded. If he's not, it's tougher,
- 8:56Speaker 1: but hey, it's still her two for a young kid
- 8:58Speaker 1: who showed you something. I think that there's some good
- 9:01Speaker 1: opportunity there for Cooper as long as he continues to progress.
- 9:04Speaker 3: One thing added in WIX. I was told absolutely he
- 9:06Speaker 3: could play inside.
- 9:07Speaker 2: He's not a slot receiver, but you can buy formation variation,
- 9:12Speaker 2: as this pro personnel guy told me. He said, the
- 9:14Speaker 2: tape shows he can play inside. But you like him
- 9:17Speaker 2: at the exposition. He didn't mention Z. He just said,
- 9:21Speaker 2: if you want to play him inside in three receivers
- 9:24Speaker 2: in eleven personnel, you can do that. So yeah, Greg
- 9:28Speaker 2: goes so really Greg really liked him. The last time
- 9:30Speaker 2: we talked about it wasn't just for the draft, it
- 9:33Speaker 2: was whenever they played Green Bay over the last three years.
- 9:36Speaker 2: I know Greg spoke weel of Wicks, so and we'll
- 9:39Speaker 2: talk to Greg about it later in the week when
- 9:41Speaker 2: we take more of the shows for the draft. So, yeah,
- 9:44Speaker 2: it's interesting trade. You know, they gave up two draft picks,
- 9:48Speaker 2: a fifth this year and sixth next year. And they
- 9:53Speaker 2: still by the way, they still actually know they actually
- 9:57Speaker 2: so they do we know which pick that they're giving
- 9:59Speaker 2: up with the two fifths that.
- 10:04Speaker 1: You know, I don't at the at this second.
- 10:05Speaker 3: Because you can't trade compicts.
- 10:07Speaker 2: So they own two of them, one fifty three overall
- 10:09Speaker 2: from the Falcons that the trade last year, and then
- 10:13Speaker 2: they have the compensitory pick one seventy eight overall.
- 10:15Speaker 3: But anyway, they're trading one of them. Yep. And the
- 10:19Speaker 3: question now is.
- 10:22Speaker 2: If Brown is traded, who's going to start in his place?
- 10:26Speaker 2: And that that that that's something that they'll answer. We
- 10:29Speaker 2: know Wix will absolutly be a part of the rotation.
- 10:31Speaker 3: That's not a question. The question is how could he be.
- 10:34Speaker 3: He's he's moving now you the offense. He knows.
- 10:38Speaker 2: The other big part about this, the real big part
- 10:41Speaker 2: about it is he knows the offensive coordinator. Now, when
- 10:43Speaker 2: you say he'll know the offense. Well, we don't know
- 10:45Speaker 2: exactly the percentage breakdown of what is it's going to
- 10:50Speaker 2: be pure Shanahan, pure McVeigh, a combination of both. That
- 10:54Speaker 2: that remains to be seen. We just know that we
- 10:56Speaker 2: know that the language is changing. He'll absolutely know that
- 10:58Speaker 2: the West Coast verbage. Yeah, it's a Bourbon system, not
- 11:01Speaker 2: the numbering system.
- 11:02Speaker 1: You know, it'll be interesting as the years go by
- 11:05Speaker 1: to see if the floor the La Floor offense becomes
- 11:07Speaker 1: a thing. Because he's his offense is sort of Shanahan,
- 11:11Speaker 1: it's it's under that Shanahan McVeigh tree, but he does
- 11:14Speaker 1: he's like more like McVeigh. We've talked about this where
- 11:18Speaker 1: he does stuff that is different. Doesn't always run wide zone.
- 11:22Speaker 1: In fact, he'll run gap and power because he has
- 11:25Speaker 1: a great, great inside runner in Josh Jacobs, and his
- 11:28Speaker 1: passing game has RPOs in. It's not Kyle Shanahan esque.
- 11:33Speaker 1: It's more McVeigh asque Early ay Ask. He's definitely ran
- 11:37Speaker 1: a lot eleven personnel. He also runs twelve personnel, so it'll,
- 11:41Speaker 1: you know, it'll just be interesting if La four Lafloor
- 11:43Speaker 1: winds up getting his own little it's a the floor offense,
- 11:46Speaker 1: not necessarily.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Well, it looks for this way. The thought around leagues
- 11:49Speaker 2: it's more the floor than Shanahan. But there's no way
- 11:52Speaker 2: to know, a babe, what tells you it's going to
- 11:54Speaker 2: be more of the floor. The floor does not use
- 11:55Speaker 2: a fullback, correct, And that's does Kyle check who. I
- 12:00Speaker 2: don't know that he goes to the Hall. He's gonna
- 12:02Speaker 2: be a Hall of Famer. But the guy's the highest
- 12:03Speaker 2: paid full back in the NFL history for a reason.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Guys really good football player, so we'll see.
- 12:07Speaker 3: It's interesting. The guy's never called plays before. It's just good.
- 12:12Speaker 2: There's a lot of unknown here. I think this thing
- 12:13Speaker 2: could look beautiful if he I'm not doubting he's the smartest.
- 12:17Speaker 2: People we spoke with say he is. But he hasn't
- 12:19Speaker 2: called plays and he hasn't coached these players. So until
- 12:24Speaker 2: he gets used to them play kongs ANARTI has only
- 12:27Speaker 2: been coaching a couple of years.
- 12:28Speaker 3: That's another problem. Yep, that's a challenge. But you just
- 12:31Speaker 3: don't know. You just don't know right now.
- 12:34Speaker 1: That's is how many players have they gotten from Green
- 12:36Speaker 1: Bay so far?
- 12:37Speaker 3: Is this?
- 12:37Speaker 1: Is this the only one so far? Wicks or is
- 12:39Speaker 1: there somebody else I'm forgetting there players? Yeah, who's the
- 12:43Speaker 1: running back? They added? They added a running back.
- 12:46Speaker 3: Pierce did not play for the Carson against City.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, so it's just him.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm looking at I'm looking at it right now.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Johnny Mount's not Johnny mounts from the West Coast thry
- 12:55Speaker 2: totally from the West coastry. Right, every every team he's
- 12:58Speaker 2: played for has been West Coast. But he he didn't
- 13:00Speaker 2: play for the Packers, right, Ryan mcaffey played, was a
- 13:03Speaker 2: coach for the Packers. Who's the tight end slash run
- 13:05Speaker 2: game coordinator?
- 13:06Speaker 3: And that's it? Yeah, don't say anyone.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, if you can't get players that you get,
- 13:11Speaker 1: if you can only get one player that you have
- 13:12Speaker 1: real first hand knowledge with, you might as well get
- 13:15Speaker 1: players that you know have played in a similar type scheme.
- 13:17Speaker 1: And that's exactly what the Eagles have done here. So
- 13:20Speaker 1: it'll be it'll be really interesting. And I don't want
- 13:22Speaker 1: to neglect to mention, you know, a big, big sort
- 13:25Speaker 1: of comeback year two for Johnny Wilson. Now with the
- 13:28Speaker 1: room starting to get crowded, now he can play special teams.
- 13:32Speaker 1: He did play special teams as a rookie along with
- 13:35Speaker 1: being the blocking receiver that he was in there for.
- 13:39Speaker 1: So you can't when you're talking about making this team
- 13:42Speaker 1: as a backup receiver as a four or five or six.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Special teams is important, So we can't forget that. So
- 13:47Speaker 1: it'd be really interesting to see how he comes back,
- 13:50Speaker 1: because that was a pretty You and I were both there, right,
- 13:52Speaker 1: that was a pretty gruesome injury.
- 13:53Speaker 3: Ye I felt bad he happened to actually run kind
- 13:56Speaker 3: of were right in front of me.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Yep.
- 13:58Speaker 2: You couldn't tell a severity until you down for a while.
- 14:00Speaker 2: And then they picked him up and he you see
- 14:02Speaker 2: it on his face, it was it's concerning, and you
- 14:06Speaker 2: know it's someone holding up both.
- 14:07Speaker 3: Of his shoulders and it's just you hate to see that.
- 14:09Speaker 2: But so if let's assume from the moment that Brown's gone,
- 14:13Speaker 2: you've got the guys you expect to make it.
- 14:15Speaker 3: Or wis.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Wicks Smith Hollywood is three and is five million full
- 14:20Speaker 2: of guaranteed Yep, so that's three. Davante's four. The drafting
- 14:26Speaker 2: would be five.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Wait, you said Smith after a Wick, So Davante is Smith?
- 14:31Speaker 3: Right?
- 14:31Speaker 1: So yeah, say first name is just so we get
- 14:33Speaker 1: through this again.
- 14:35Speaker 2: So don Tavian Wicks is one, Davante Smith is two,
- 14:38Speaker 2: Hollywood Brown is three.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Right, then you got a little interesting conversation. I think,
- 14:44Speaker 1: you know, it gets really interesting.
- 14:46Speaker 3: It is.
- 14:47Speaker 2: That's why I want to talk about this because you know,
- 14:48Speaker 2: we did a lot over the weekend. But it's what's
- 14:51Speaker 2: it going to look like? And you make the really
- 14:52Speaker 2: good point here, special teams matters. Now we have no
- 14:54Speaker 2: idea if Johnny Wilson could run like that's the thing, right,
- 14:57Speaker 2: I think for.
- 14:58Speaker 1: This, for the sake of the discussion, we have to
- 15:00Speaker 1: say draft pick four because we would expect the Eagles,
- 15:02Speaker 1: even with Brown, to expect to hit a draft pick
- 15:05Speaker 1: here at wide they will.
- 15:08Speaker 3: Yeah, So with Dantavian Wicks, DeVante Smith, Hollywood Brown, the
- 15:13Speaker 3: draft is four mm hmm. Cooper is five, Elijah Moore
- 15:18Speaker 3: is six mm hmm.
- 15:20Speaker 1: And Johnny's trying to knock one, trying to knock more.
- 15:23Speaker 3: How he keeps seven? But yeah, because yeah could keep six.
- 15:26Speaker 3: I mean you know how that works. Yeah, we've said
- 15:28Speaker 3: a thousand times, you go heavy at one spot, you
- 15:31Speaker 3: gotta go.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Thin at another. True, So I could see them. Yeah,
- 15:36Speaker 2: six is realistic. Elijah Moore to me, we have not
- 15:41Speaker 2: got his contract breakdown yet. I'm very interest to see
- 15:43Speaker 2: if there's any guaranteed money. You know, it's crazy. I'm
- 15:46Speaker 2: doing a contract show later this week.
- 15:49Speaker 3: They gave Damian Pierce like two hundred and fifty grand
- 15:53Speaker 3: guaranteed a lot.
- 15:55Speaker 1: That is interesting.
- 15:56Speaker 3: Stn't smart too now.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Now, as one person said to me, I ran it
- 16:00Speaker 2: by who pretty sharp, someone who works for a team.
- 16:03Speaker 2: He goes think of it as a practice squad contract
- 16:05Speaker 2: because the money is guarantee. These guys, you know, obviously
- 16:08Speaker 2: the chances of them making it aren't very good.
- 16:11Speaker 3: So they just could there.
- 16:12Speaker 2: They're gonna home to two hundred and fifty grand, two
- 16:14Speaker 2: undred twenty five thousand. You just whatever the practice squad
- 16:17Speaker 2: money is, that's what it is guaranteed, you think with
- 16:19Speaker 2: that one?
- 16:19Speaker 1: Sure, sure, I guess that makes sense when you think
- 16:21Speaker 1: about it, that one.
- 16:22Speaker 3: But still they like him enough. Yeah, and Covey.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Covey does count against if he makes it as a
- 16:29Speaker 2: pump returner, he does count against their super position. Oh,
- 16:31Speaker 2: he might only get ten snats for the season. So
- 16:35Speaker 2: the z By the way, so we talked about the
- 16:38Speaker 2: exposition di ZS would be DeVante Smith Hollywood, Brown, Elijah Moore,
- 16:43Speaker 2: Jars Cooper. The slots are guys who can line up inside.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Is Davante Smith boy when he winds up inside, he's
- 16:50Speaker 2: pretty good. The numbers show it. Yeah, Elijah Moore, Cooper
- 16:53Speaker 2: can line up inside.
- 16:54Speaker 3: Obviously covey.
- 16:55Speaker 2: But now the one guy said him, he goes, I'm
- 16:58Speaker 2: telling you Dante Wix can line up inside if you
- 17:01Speaker 2: want him to.
- 17:02Speaker 3: Hmm, Okay, I'm not you know these guys knower one
- 17:06Speaker 3: I do. I'm like, okay, I understand, so right, uh,
- 17:09Speaker 3: but I'm guessing it.
- 17:11Speaker 2: It's just kind of maybe it was in in on
- 17:14Speaker 2: third down where they moved him around and maybe he
- 17:17Speaker 2: looked like he lined up inside by formation by the tape.
- 17:19Speaker 2: But want to give him as an insider receiver.
- 17:22Speaker 3: But they could they have enough. But the thing to
- 17:26Speaker 3: me would be concerning is if Brown is traded Wix
- 17:31Speaker 3: to me, he's going to.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Make just under four million this season, then the twelve
- 17:35Speaker 2: point five million. We don't know what the guarantee is yet.
- 17:37Speaker 2: We'll have the breakdown for you when we get it.
- 17:40Speaker 2: But depending on Wix to be as start in me
- 17:43Speaker 2: is really forward thinking. He's never shown that he could
- 17:45Speaker 2: be a full time starter. But as we said, that's
- 17:48Speaker 2: where the draft pick comes in.
- 17:49Speaker 1: That's where the draft pick comes in. Yeah, which you
- 17:50Speaker 1: have to hope that guy is good enough to play
- 17:52Speaker 1: right away or else you have to kind of move
- 17:54Speaker 1: things around. Now Smith, you mentioned DeVante will finish it
- 17:56Speaker 1: with this. You know, he is a very good slot
- 17:59Speaker 1: receiver because he's such a great route technician and the
- 18:03Speaker 1: only reason earlier in his career, I was told the
- 18:06Speaker 1: Eagles by by year two, I think it was I
- 18:09Speaker 1: was told the Eagles really didn't want to force feed
- 18:12Speaker 1: him into the slot too much. It was more because
- 18:13Speaker 1: of his knees and his build. It wasn't about talent
- 18:17Speaker 1: or fit. You know, he's got he's skinny. You know,
- 18:20Speaker 1: you have to run block a lot. You know, if
- 18:21Speaker 1: you want to run eleven personnel and and run the ball,
- 18:24Speaker 1: then he's your slot. Then he's gonna have to block,
- 18:26Speaker 1: and that's not you don't want him in all that
- 18:28Speaker 1: congestion in traffic. So it has nothing to do with
- 18:30Speaker 1: fit talent. It's just more about preserving his body.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Oh, by the way, the fifth round pick is was Yeah,
- 18:41Speaker 3: the one from Atlanta.
- 18:42Speaker 2: So that's that's the that's the first, so they still
- 18:45Speaker 2: have a first, a second, two thirds. One of them
- 18:50Speaker 2: is a compic to force one of them is a compic,
- 18:54Speaker 2: a fifth compick.
- 18:58Speaker 3: How he was it kidding?
- 19:00Speaker 1: No, he wasn't.
- 19:01Speaker 3: Man.
- 19:01Speaker 1: I can't wait to trace or look back on the
- 19:06Speaker 1: the third round compic number nine ninety eight overall because
- 19:09Speaker 1: that's the Milton Williams pick and see what kind of
- 19:11Speaker 1: player that the Eagles wind up getting. And by the way,
- 19:14Speaker 1: they're gonna get most likely the number ninety eight overall
- 19:17Speaker 1: pick again next year for losing Jail and Phillips, so
- 19:20Speaker 1: something in that vicinity. So it'd be really interesting to
- 19:22Speaker 1: track those two.
- 19:23Speaker 3: It's funny, how I know.
- 19:25Speaker 2: The Bengals over the years have told agents so like
- 19:27Speaker 2: they're flat out honest with them, why they're a little
- 19:29Speaker 2: cash ben some years, actually it's a lot of years,
- 19:34Speaker 2: but they'll they'll tell them, hey, listen, we we're gonna
- 19:36Speaker 2: let this guy walk. We rather we think getting a
- 19:38Speaker 2: compic is smarter. They've used that line. I've heard that
- 19:42Speaker 2: for ten years, and that's that's how cheap they are.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Yeah, we should go back and look at their history
- 19:47Speaker 1: of drafting and see if that's worked out for them.
- 19:49Speaker 1: But yeah, other things is a great theory, but not
- 19:52Speaker 1: if you're not good at drafting. I'm here in the line.
- 19:54Speaker 3: They've never understid never win, you know why, because they
- 19:57Speaker 3: don't understand how you win. You build on the lines.
- 20:01Speaker 2: The Ravens have understood that the Eagles are the kings
- 20:03Speaker 2: of it, which Joe Bann and Jeffrey Lower brought in
- 20:07Speaker 2: decades ago. It seems like the most obvious thing you
- 20:10Speaker 2: copy off of the most successful teams. Yep, they capulate
- 20:15Speaker 2: off the Niners, Walsh's Niners of how he did it.
- 20:18Speaker 2: I don't understand it. It just mystifies me. My teams
- 20:21Speaker 2: don't understand it.
- 20:23Speaker 1: I remember in twenty seventeen, Adam, you and I did
- 20:25Speaker 1: a draft. Was it that year when they took John
- 20:28Speaker 1: Ross like ninth overall?
- 20:30Speaker 3: Oh oh, oh, oh my god. I almost feigned Yeah, Bengals.
- 20:34Speaker 1: I'll be the first to tell you I really liked Genre.
- 20:37Speaker 1: I thought he was great in college. I loved his speed.
- 20:40Speaker 1: I just I didn't think he was I obviously was
- 20:43Speaker 1: wrong about his talent too, but I thought that going
- 20:46Speaker 1: to the Bengals at ninth overall was almost insane to me. Well,
- 20:51Speaker 1: at the time, he.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Had a major injury history out of University of Washington.
- 20:54Speaker 2: Unfortunately didn't stop there.
- 20:55Speaker 3: Ironically, the Eagles would would would want to bring him
- 20:58Speaker 3: in years later. They always liked him.
- 21:00Speaker 2: I remember they talked to the Bengals when they were
- 21:03Speaker 2: when they were considering moving them, and it just it
- 21:05Speaker 2: never happened.
- 21:06Speaker 3: But I remember running into someone very close to John.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Ross at the draft and the person asked me, what
- 21:11Speaker 2: do you think I said, late first, early second. This
- 21:13Speaker 2: person said, yes, that's what we've heard, so somewhere hope
- 21:17Speaker 2: we hope. In the twenties, right when he went nine. You,
- 21:20Speaker 2: when I were doing the show for the fanatic, I
- 21:23Speaker 2: just was the Trubisky shock was bigger. I'm sorry that
- 21:27Speaker 2: was bigger because you.
- 21:28Speaker 3: And I were like, who could it be? Who could be?
- 21:30Speaker 3: Who could it be? We all got it wrong, no
- 21:32Speaker 3: one got it right.
- 21:33Speaker 1: I know that was a crazy draft. I wonder if, oh,
- 21:37Speaker 1: by the way, you mentioned Paris Campbell. That's another guy
- 21:41Speaker 1: that the Eagles liked at one point. In fact, he
- 21:44Speaker 1: would have been the pick if it was not Jiji
- 21:47Speaker 1: ar Thingga Whiteside. That was the one that was the right.
- 21:51Speaker 3: Between Campbell and twenty nineteen Campbell Campbell was twenty nineteen.
- 21:56Speaker 1: I wound up, you know, being we we've gone through that,
- 21:59Speaker 1: we don't need to rehab.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Actually try to trade out of that spot. Unfortunately didn't work.
- 22:03Speaker 2: I thought I had trade worked out. Hey, sometimes yeah,
- 22:06Speaker 2: it doesn't work out.
- 22:07Speaker 1: But he came back years later too. All right, So
- 22:10Speaker 1: looking at again, you just went through the Eagles picks, right,
- 22:13Speaker 1: they got this is independent of a potential trade for
- 22:16Speaker 1: aj Brown. They have their own first round pick, twenty
- 22:19Speaker 1: three overall, fifty four overall. In the second round, they
- 22:22Speaker 1: got the third round pick from the Hassan Reddick trade,
- 22:25Speaker 1: so they don't have their own third round pick. I
- 22:28Speaker 1: forget where that was.
- 22:29Speaker 3: No, but you know what, I know some people I
- 22:32Speaker 3: understood then, and I understand to a degree.
- 22:36Speaker 2: But when you look back, the Eagles made a good
- 22:38Speaker 2: decision and not resigning him. I know at the time
- 22:40Speaker 2: people are like, are you out of here mind?
- 22:42Speaker 3: What is going on? Right?
- 22:44Speaker 2: Well, they made the right decision because it since Reddick left,
- 22:48Speaker 2: it's been steadily downhill. You know, when he tried to
- 22:50Speaker 2: hold out and the craziness of what happened with the Jets,
- 22:54Speaker 2: but he was always durable. But with the Bucks, he
- 22:55Speaker 2: was hurt. I always say this club's no more than
- 22:59Speaker 2: the public does. They were right about that one.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Uh so, yeah, they don't have any of their They
- 23:04Speaker 1: get the compick. Also, we talked about they have two
- 23:06Speaker 1: fourth round picks, a fifth round pick, and a sixth
- 23:09Speaker 1: round pick, so they got plenty of The sixth round pick,
- 23:11Speaker 1: by the way, came from the Sydney Brown trade from
- 23:14Speaker 1: the Falcon, So they gave they gave away the fourth
- 23:17Speaker 1: round pick that they got from the Falcons, right, Uh,
- 23:20Speaker 1: to get Wix. But now they've got the sixth round
- 23:23Speaker 1: pick from the Sidney Brown trade.
- 23:24Speaker 3: That's funny.
- 23:25Speaker 2: They were, they were, they're really What they did is
- 23:27Speaker 2: they were able to move up in the fourth round.
- 23:29Speaker 2: You know, they traded spots honestly for a special teams player.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Now my senses, they feel somehow he's going to contribute
- 23:37Speaker 2: on defense.
- 23:38Speaker 3: Luck with that one. And and uh, what's his name?
- 23:42Speaker 3: Was not here? Ian Cunningham was not here when he
- 23:44Speaker 3: was drafted. It was with a Bears. Then I looked
- 23:47Speaker 3: it up, Well, oh yeah, yeah, yeah, I don't know
- 23:49Speaker 3: what he sees in City Brown.
- 23:50Speaker 1: I mean, it's just hard to believe that was a
- 23:53Speaker 1: head scratcher.
- 23:54Speaker 2: Uh, I know he's a great special teams player other
- 23:57Speaker 2: than the penalties. Okay, good luck with that one anyway.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Yeah, especially I think you mentioned this at the time.
- 24:02Speaker 1: It's not like the Falcons have a bunch of picks,
- 24:04Speaker 1: so that.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Was Yeah, that's surprised. And the needs of the future
- 24:08Speaker 2: of not change still receiver for the future, remember past
- 24:11Speaker 2: the season.
- 24:11Speaker 3: That's what the draft is.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Right end, right tackle Lane Johnson's replacement guard because Tyler
- 24:18Speaker 2: Stein was average at best. He's also in the fronty
- 24:21Speaker 2: of his rookie deal. Edge is a major need in
- 24:23Speaker 2: terms of an upgrade. They're looking for an upgrade. They
- 24:24Speaker 2: try to get the upgrade with Phillips, so they're telling
- 24:27Speaker 2: you what they're want. Cornerback Vic Fangio will tell you
- 24:30Speaker 2: I was surprised when he said it. He goes, nicol
- 24:33Speaker 2: is not a corner. It's not a it's not a corner,
- 24:37Speaker 2: and I was like, what is this guy talking about.
- 24:39Speaker 2: I thought he was out of his mind, But he
- 24:41Speaker 2: explained it thoroughly. He said corners had an outside position, Nicholas.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Not yep, And that's basically that's how he said. Nickel
- 24:48Speaker 1: corner is outside.
- 24:49Speaker 3: Right, right, And you know what Okay, I stopped calling
- 24:54Speaker 3: guy's a nickel corner. I'm not calling that guy at all.
- 24:56Speaker 3: He's at nickel that's right. Hey, hey, who mine? Are
- 24:59Speaker 3: you with a All fame coach? And then yeah, cornerback
- 25:02Speaker 3: in safety? Safety?
- 25:03Speaker 2: I mean, folks, get it's funny because you look at
- 25:05Speaker 2: our YouTube board.
- 25:07Speaker 3: People get all hot and bothered. But how could you
- 25:09Speaker 3: say this? No, safety is the biggest thing on the
- 25:11Speaker 3: football team, folks.
- 25:13Speaker 2: It's certainly now in the future, but it's not when
- 25:17Speaker 2: you base it on value, it's lower.
- 25:19Speaker 3: Safety is not a valuable position comparatively. Yeah, arguing that
- 25:25Speaker 3: it's not arguab absolutely.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Hey, Philly fans game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic,

- 26:42Speaker 1: at PHL sports Nation. So of these positions, we have
- 26:46Speaker 1: listened about seven of them. They're just like there are
- 26:49Speaker 1: a couple though, that you know can be still upgraded
- 26:55Speaker 1: even now. In bargain free agency. Safety I believe is
- 26:58Speaker 1: one of them you can still probably I know I've
- 27:01Speaker 1: written about it. There's three or four or five guys
- 27:03Speaker 1: who have been starters in this league that you can
- 27:05Speaker 1: upgrade and then get your future guy in the draft.
- 27:08Speaker 1: I would also say backup guard depth, right, you can
- 27:11Speaker 1: probably go find that and you're not going to find
- 27:14Speaker 1: a starting caliber edge, not going to find a starting
- 27:17Speaker 1: caliber corner. Maybe wide receiver though it's not really other
- 27:21Speaker 1: teams have been able to do it. How he's not
- 27:23Speaker 1: really hit We just we mentioned Campbell, we mentioned Ross.
- 27:26Speaker 1: It's been tough for him to find bargain one year
- 27:30Speaker 1: wide receivers. You know, Eli Moore, Elijah Moore will be
- 27:33Speaker 1: the next attempt, But he doesn't really hit there real well.
- 27:36Speaker 3: Well, you know who's out there, and if Brown as traded, I.
- 27:40Speaker 1: Know who yep. And it almost it almost makes me
- 27:43Speaker 1: think he's out here for like his agent is not
- 27:46Speaker 1: going to have a deal until agent.
- 27:49Speaker 3: Yeah, so yeah, that would be interesting.
- 27:51Speaker 2: I'll tell you what that would That would certainly draft
- 27:53Speaker 2: proof at least for one year, because they would have
- 27:55Speaker 2: they'd be it's he's another guy.
- 27:57Speaker 3: If you want him to line up inside, he can
- 27:59Speaker 3: do it.
- 28:00Speaker 2: In fact, one of the I believe one of the
- 28:01Speaker 2: places he lined up and sign against the Eagles in
- 28:03Speaker 2: the playoffs.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Oh sure, yeah, yeah, we're talking about Juwan Jennings from.
- 28:06Speaker 2: The second Yeah, so he's look, he's a you'd rather have.
- 28:11Speaker 2: He's really a third receiver. He could start if you
- 28:14Speaker 2: need him to. He's a great story of development. Another
- 28:16Speaker 2: guy Greg loved. He knew how slow his forty time
- 28:19Speaker 2: was because I'm just telling what the tape looks like.
- 28:20Speaker 2: He loved this guy. I don't remember as doing. Ah,
- 28:24Speaker 2: I don't remember like what year that was he came
- 28:26Speaker 2: out for the draft mm hmm, but he was only
- 28:29Speaker 2: seventh round. But the guy's been a great story of development.
- 28:31Speaker 2: Had numerous injuries and he's been able to play through it.
- 28:33Speaker 3: He just wanted. The word around the league was he
- 28:35Speaker 3: wanted a lot of money. He's not getting it.
- 28:37Speaker 2: Yep, he's theoretically he should be signing one year deal
- 28:40Speaker 2: for two or three million. Blow it up in a roll.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Look now, if you're him, don't you want to wait
- 28:47Speaker 3: till after the draft to see what the teams do?
- 28:49Speaker 2: That?
- 28:49Speaker 1: Absolutely? Yeah, I'm not signing some s one year deal now.
- 28:54Speaker 1: And I think, you know, like somebody might want me
- 28:56Speaker 1: for even or a bigger one year deal once they
- 28:59Speaker 1: realize how badly they need me.
- 29:01Speaker 3: Yeah, sure like it.
- 29:03Speaker 2: It's kind of like with Beckton, right he goes signed
- 29:05Speaker 2: beckten after the draft? Who they hell know who run
- 29:08Speaker 2: hup starting guard like that was insane. R. But you
- 29:11Speaker 2: want to go somewhere where you know you've got a
- 29:13Speaker 2: shot to contribute meaningful snaps so you can get paid
- 29:15Speaker 2: the following year.
- 29:16Speaker 3: M hm.
- 29:17Speaker 2: So yeah, real quick, the best available receivers or Deebo
- 29:20Speaker 2: Samuel was going to it would cost it's going to
- 29:22Speaker 2: cost money. Jwan Jennings Diggs was cut. He's also got
- 29:25Speaker 2: a legal issue. He's got to get straight out.
- 29:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:28Speaker 2: My guy Brandon Cooks, who was their Eagles guy in
- 29:31Speaker 2: twenty fourteen, unfortunately didn't work out. That's a thirty for
- 29:34Speaker 2: thirty by the way, and then he MANI mini show. Uh,
- 29:39Speaker 2: keenan Allen's still out there.
- 29:40Speaker 3: Curtis my guy.
- 29:42Speaker 1: That's my guy.
- 29:44Speaker 3: He's a slot. He's a slot for sure. Hopkins is
- 29:48Speaker 3: near the end.
- 29:49Speaker 2: Ju Ju smith Suster who plays both inside or outside.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Josh Reynolds, who's an X. It's pretty no Brown's out, no, yeah, No,
- 29:57Speaker 2: Brown's out there.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Yeah, he's out. He's wherever Noah Brown goes, he winds
- 30:01Speaker 1: up making some pretty good contributions. So but yeah, man,
- 30:04Speaker 1: keenan Allen, if you told me the Eagles were gonna
- 30:06Speaker 1: sign Keenan Allen. I would probably like go from here
- 30:09Speaker 1: to oh. I Like, you know, if they traded a
- 30:11Speaker 1: J Brown they bring in Keenan Allen, I would be like, okay,
- 30:13Speaker 1: well we'll.
- 30:14Speaker 3: Think about this though with him, Okay after the draft.
- 30:16Speaker 2: If you're Keenan Allen once you this is probably gonna
- 30:18Speaker 2: be a free Would you just want to sign somewhere
- 30:20Speaker 2: you can win a ring?
- 30:21Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yep. The only issue for me is when
- 30:26Speaker 1: I think about it more is I don't know it
- 30:28Speaker 1: would it would almost have to be like the idea
- 30:31Speaker 1: of Keenan Allen and the idea of Jalen Hurts throwing
- 30:34Speaker 1: in the middle of the field between the number. I
- 30:36Speaker 1: wouldn't like Allen to come here and then Jaleen Hurt's
- 30:39Speaker 1: not like adapt It's a fair point. But when he
- 30:44Speaker 1: was in Chicago a couple of years ago, like it
- 30:45Speaker 1: would you know with with Caleb Williams just not being ready, Well.
- 30:49Speaker 2: He was, he wasn't ready, but he certainly showed. I
- 30:52Speaker 2: understand the yards per catch wasn't very high, but he
- 30:54Speaker 2: still can be haven. We said it for years, Eagles
- 30:57Speaker 2: don't have a pure possession receiver right like adjacent avon type.
- 31:02Speaker 3: You know what he is, Yep, short area, tough, run
- 31:06Speaker 3: after the catch. He's not going to beat you and race.
- 31:08Speaker 1: That's that's right.
- 31:10Speaker 3: You're not that. He's not a burner, you know.
- 31:12Speaker 1: Just catch the ball.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Model Zeble draft in twenty twenty thirteen, he was drafted.
- 31:18Speaker 1: I have to look at what I oh, gosh, allan yeah.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Like col right twenty thirteen. Yeah, here, here's what happened.
- 31:27Speaker 2: He didn't run at the combine. He there was a
- 31:29Speaker 2: lot of talk that he was going to drop, and
- 31:31Speaker 2: he did drop to the third round, which seems he's
- 31:33Speaker 2: probably gonna be a Hall of Famer. Seems ridiculous. But
- 31:36Speaker 2: possession receivers are you know, they they get discriminated against.
- 31:41Speaker 2: Oh he only is this short area guy. I mean
- 31:44Speaker 2: Cooper copp Alan, These guys are Keene's gonna.
- 31:48Speaker 3: Make all fame. He's WOWK number I don't. I know
- 31:53Speaker 3: he's had a share of injuries, but man if one, two, three.
- 31:57Speaker 1: Four, five, I was the five with a six oh
- 32:01Speaker 1: yeah three first.
- 32:03Speaker 3: Year yet you're right his first year was actually six correct.
- 32:06Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, and one year his eight yards sort of it.
- 32:09Speaker 1: So I'm yeah, you could probably make a pretty good
- 32:11Speaker 1: argument for ye.
- 32:14Speaker 2: Big time possession receiver. Ye, wouldn't you want to have
- 32:17Speaker 2: a chance to win a win a ring?
- 32:19Speaker 1: Yes, But I think there were probably four or five
- 32:22Speaker 1: teams now that he could probably feel that he's got
- 32:24Speaker 1: a good shoot. The Packers could sign him now that
- 32:26Speaker 1: they've got no wigs and no dubs, right, and he'd
- 32:28Speaker 1: fit into that offense really well. So I don't know,
- 32:31Speaker 1: these are why these guys haven't signed, because they know
- 32:34Speaker 1: there's opportunities out there. I just gotta wait for things
- 32:37Speaker 1: to materialize. All right, good stuff, Adam, good good pod.
- 32:40Speaker 1: By the way, I meant some tell you got you
- 32:41Speaker 1: and Andrew did an awesome pod last week. Really enjoyed that.
- 32:45Speaker 3: On the draft, Oh, sleepers are phenomenal. You got there
- 32:48Speaker 3: were there was one or two guys I didn't know
- 32:49Speaker 3: a lot about mm hmm.
- 32:51Speaker 2: And yeah that's good stuff. And in fact, we'll wanna
- 32:55Speaker 2: we'll run them by Greg if we can. We we
- 32:57Speaker 2: do like one more.
- 32:59Speaker 3: We got to cut. We got de tackles coming this week.
- 33:01Speaker 1: We got detacle, we got edge D tackles. Yeah, we're
- 33:05Speaker 1: basically starting defense.
- 33:06Speaker 3: So okay, cool, okay, great, great, all.
- 33:08Speaker 1: Right, awesome, that'll do it. For this episode of Inside
