- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, welcome to The Daily Writer, where we help writers become authors of their own lives.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: A few days ago, my one-on-one coaching client Lori Melton asked a question about how I structure my work week.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: So I want to share my response here since this may be helpful for you as well.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: The bottom line is that I split my work week into three parts.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: I have Monday, then I have Tuesday through Thursday, and then I have Friday.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: Here's how I break this down.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: I like to keep Mondays open as much as possible, with the exception of a standing mastermind call on Monday mornings.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: I really like to use Mondays as a day to get my head back in the game for the work week.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: I do a lot of content creation for this podcast and my email list on Mondays, and I really want to set up my week for success.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: And generally, Mondays basically are for me in the daily writer side of my business, not typically for client work.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Now, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, that's when I try to schedule all my client calls and my meetings.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: And I also do any coffee or lunch meetings on those days that are in person.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: And in addition, I do a lot of client writing during this middle larger section of the week.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: Now I put almost all of my people time on these days because I would rather have three consolidated days when I really need to be on, so to speak, in terms of meetings and calls with people, instead of having it spread out over five days.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: I also try really hard not to schedule calls before 11 a.m.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: on any of these days, but I do have to stay flexible.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: I really want to preserve my mornings as an extended block of quiet, focused time.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: But again, people have different schedules, and because I have a client-based business primarily, I do have to stay a little bit flexible with that.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Now, when it comes to Fridays, my one cardinal rule that I follow religiously is that I do not do any calls or meetings on Fridays unless it is absolutely necessary.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: I block out Fridays for intensive client writing and other big projects in my business as I need.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: Now, there's exceptions to all of these rules, of course, but I follow this regimen pretty closely on most weeks.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: The name of the game here, in my opinion, is to keep a balance between my own preferences, but also being available to other people within reason.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: Again, since I do have a client based business.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Now, your needs and preferences probably are going to be different than mine, but I hope this has given you some insight into what works for you the best and also what you might want to change in your weekly schedule.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: Hey, thanks for listening.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Keep writing and keep showing up, and I'll see you tomorrow.
