- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:05Speaker 2: It's almost Famous podcasts. We're sitting here at a beautiful
- 0:09Speaker 2: resort together with probably two of the biggest stars in
- 0:15Speaker 2: Bachelor Nation. Absolutely, I'm with Bob Guinny all night tonight.
- 0:19Speaker 2: So here's what's happening. It is I guess my baby shower.
- 0:23Speaker 2: It is, but really it's just his baby shower from
- 0:26Speaker 2: a distance. So Jessica is in Nashville having her baby
- 0:29Speaker 2: shower with friends and family, and I Heeart was kind
- 0:33Speaker 2: enough to say, hey, if Jessica is celebrating, we want
- 0:35Speaker 2: to celebrate you because you had a very small and
- 0:38Speaker 2: pleasurable part of this experience.
- 0:41Speaker 3: And too much information theower. It's not that you, guys.
- 0:49Speaker 2: That's why I wasn't talking about anybody else here. And
- 0:56Speaker 2: so we're having a great night with a bunch of
- 0:58Speaker 2: guests that will be interviewing out the evening, and we're
- 1:01Speaker 2: going to introduce them as we go. You'll see episodes
- 1:03Speaker 2: drop and you'll know who was here and who wasn't.
- 1:05Speaker 2: We have great food outside, we have great drinks. But
- 1:08Speaker 2: tonight at the start, we have to talk to this couple.
- 1:11Speaker 3: Yes we do. I think so.
- 1:13Speaker 4: I've said this a bunch and I said it to
- 1:15Speaker 4: Joan when we were doing.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Before I knew that Chuck was the guy right.
- 1:19Speaker 4: First of all, the thing I love about the Golden
- 1:20Speaker 4: franchise is let's not kid ourselves. The Bachelor can go
- 1:26Speaker 4: on and off the rails at different times with crazy
- 1:28Speaker 4: casting choices and different things of that nature. What I've
- 1:31Speaker 4: loved and when I said to Joan when she was
- 1:33Speaker 4: first on Gary season, was I love that they took
- 1:37Speaker 4: the casting and they made it not just age appropriate souse.
- 1:41Speaker 4: I only think that's the right word. They made it
- 1:43Speaker 4: like just it was. It was perfect right. And then
- 1:46Speaker 4: they come to Joan's season, who was the perfect choice
- 1:49Speaker 4: ps and we all know that absolutely, And the guys
- 1:51Speaker 4: on this show have blown me away, like every single
- 1:54Speaker 4: one of these guys are And I will say this,
- 1:55Speaker 4: and I said this to Joan. It reminds me of
- 1:57Speaker 4: when Trista's season she was the first bachelor at Tris
- 2:00Speaker 4: and I was on that season and every one of
- 2:02Speaker 4: us got along so well. We were buddies. We weren't
- 2:06Speaker 4: pulling against anybody. We were like, man, let's just be
- 2:09Speaker 4: friends and let's make this about all of us and
- 2:12Speaker 4: whoever in the end that she chooses, that's.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Where her love is, that's where heart is. It's going
- 2:15Speaker 3: to be amazing, real popular.
- 2:18Speaker 5: Yeah, but it's.
- 2:21Speaker 4: Amazing what we do back in those days people.
- 2:25Speaker 3: But you're right, it was.
- 2:27Speaker 4: It was a long time ago, twenty some years ago,
- 2:29Speaker 4: and here it comes full circle. And I feel like
- 2:31Speaker 4: we had talked about this earlier, asking like, can the
- 2:34Speaker 4: show reboot itself? How can you go back just to
- 2:36Speaker 4: reboot itself? I think with a Golden franchise, it has
- 2:39Speaker 4: rebooted itself. I mean now, granted, they might go back
- 2:42Speaker 4: to their old tricks with the new season, which I'm
- 2:44Speaker 4: sure they probably have. But I loved watching this season
- 2:47Speaker 4: and I love the guys, like I related to the
- 2:49Speaker 4: guys where I mean, we're not that far apart in age.
- 2:52Speaker 4: You know, I'm the oldest real life bachelor for like,
- 2:56Speaker 4: all these guys are very younger than still living and
- 3:00Speaker 4: you know we're too bad yeah yeah, back in the day.
- 3:03Speaker 4: But like, watching you guys on the show was reminiscent
- 3:06Speaker 4: to me of watching trist this season and how the
- 3:09Speaker 4: guys got along and rooted for each other, and it
- 3:11Speaker 4: was never like I mean, you always had that wild
- 3:13Speaker 4: card here and there, right, But it was never watching
- 3:15Speaker 4: the show and watching a bunch of cattiness amongst the guys.
- 3:17Speaker 4: It was like the other genuine French No, it was
- 3:21Speaker 4: I loved you guys, the way you reacted to each other,
- 3:23Speaker 4: the way you supported each other, when you supported Joan,
- 3:25Speaker 4: there's so much.
- 3:26Speaker 6: So I remember the first night when they all the
- 3:29Speaker 6: limos come in and you meet each guy, and I
- 3:32Speaker 6: walked when everybody else was all were here, they were
- 3:35Speaker 6: all partying. I went back to an interview room and
- 3:37Speaker 6: I said, this season is not about me anymore. I
- 3:39Speaker 6: was like, these guys are so amazing, They're so interesting,
- 3:41Speaker 6: they have such great backstories, and this is this is
- 3:44Speaker 6: going to be about them. It's not going to be
- 3:46Speaker 6: about me anymore. And I did actually feel that way
- 3:49Speaker 6: kind of throughout the season. Every time I got to
- 3:51Speaker 6: sit down with a guy and they told more about
- 3:53Speaker 6: their stories, that like statement became more real because they
- 3:58Speaker 6: became so relatable and people. I said, America is going
- 4:00Speaker 6: to fall in love with these guys, and they really did.
- 4:03Speaker 6: But the thing is, I think that there is a
- 4:05Speaker 6: difference between a golden season and a regular season that's
- 4:08Speaker 6: going on for years, and I'm not sure if it's fixable,
- 4:13Speaker 6: because I think that we have backstories that give us
- 4:18Speaker 6: some kind of confidence and a little bit maybe a
- 4:20Speaker 6: little bit of swagger, that we feel like we are
- 4:22Speaker 6: interesting enough that we don't have to have drama. And
- 4:26Speaker 6: I don't know if you can fix that with the
- 4:28Speaker 6: younger guys. You have history, you have your experiences.
- 4:32Speaker 5: Every one of the guys had a story. Yeah, created
- 4:35Speaker 5: group health therapy, group therapy with every one of the
- 4:41Speaker 5: guys because a lot of us have been through some
- 4:42Speaker 5: turmoil and you go, this happened to me, and the
- 4:44Speaker 5: next guy had a story that just blew your mind. Absolutely, yeah, exactly, gosh, yeah, exactly.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:50Speaker 4: But and that you're right that confidence does come with age.
- 4:53Speaker 6: And you have story, so you have other you have
- 4:55Speaker 6: other things to talk about. You don't have to talk
- 4:56Speaker 6: about like your most recent breakup or why you are
- 5:00Speaker 6: better for the Bachelor or the Bachelor than I am,
- 5:02Speaker 6: or why I my date was better like that doesn't
- 5:06Speaker 6: like you don't have those conversations. Honestly, nobody cares. But
- 5:08Speaker 6: also we have the like we have the I guess
- 5:12Speaker 6: the experience to see that you don't want somebody picking
- 5:16Speaker 6: you just because you eliminated everybody else. You want them
- 5:20Speaker 6: to pick you because they actually had a relationship with you,
- 5:21Speaker 6: and they actually had feelings for you, and they had
- 5:23Speaker 6: a connection and that they saw that it could grow
- 5:25Speaker 6: over the years, or that you could end up being
- 5:27Speaker 6: something more than just another person on your show. So
- 5:30Speaker 6: backstabbing somebody else and pushing them out isn't the right
- 5:33Speaker 6: way to get to the right place.
- 5:35Speaker 4: To the end.
- 5:36Speaker 2: I mean, And I think you know, Joan, you and
- 5:40Speaker 2: I are messaging. I've wanted to talk to the two
- 5:43Speaker 2: of you together since you got off the show, just
- 5:46Speaker 2: because you know, like my wife doesn't watch the Bachelor
- 5:50Speaker 2: or the Bachelorette, but she does watch the Golden Show.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Oh that's Canyon too.
- 5:55Speaker 2: She loves it and she cries and she celebrates and
- 5:58Speaker 2: she invests into it. And I wanted to talk to
- 6:02Speaker 2: you because I had gotten to meet you way before
- 6:05Speaker 2: you were ever announced, way before you probably even knew
- 6:07Speaker 2: that it was in consideration for you to be a
- 6:09Speaker 2: Golden Bachelorette.
- 6:10Speaker 5: And.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Yeah, you're at that. She was at the end, and
- 6:15Speaker 2: my wife celebrated you, and so we celebrated you too
- 6:19Speaker 2: as a couple because it's really exciting to see. And
- 6:21Speaker 2: that leads me to my first question. I am going
- 6:23Speaker 2: to call you out a little bit, which I don't
- 6:25Speaker 2: love to do on private conversations. But when I saw
- 6:29Speaker 2: you tonight, one of the first words you said to
- 6:32Speaker 2: me when I gave you a hug was the show
- 6:35Speaker 2: can work. Yeah, that's what you said, And I want
- 6:38Speaker 2: you to expand on that, because now we're a few
- 6:40Speaker 2: months removed from the show airing, or a few of
- 6:43Speaker 2: many months removed from the show filming, and now you
- 6:46Speaker 2: sit in this place as a couple, and when you
- 6:48Speaker 2: say that to me, what do you mean by that?
- 6:50Speaker 6: So, like two things come to mind. First one is
- 6:55Speaker 6: that everybody really became invested in Gary season and we
- 7:01Speaker 6: all thought it was super genuine and that it really worked,
- 7:04Speaker 6: And still sitting here today, I think it did work
- 7:06Speaker 6: at the time, but sometimes it falls apart later on.
- 7:10Speaker 3: You guys get you.
- 7:15Speaker 6: When you leave the bubble and you are out in
- 7:17Speaker 6: the real world. So like that's my first thought on it.
- 7:20Speaker 6: My second thought is was my own skepticism that can
- 7:23Speaker 6: you really fall in love that quickly? Because I only
- 7:25Speaker 6: made it for three episodes of The Golden Boucher so
- 7:27Speaker 6: I didn't experience getting into any like real feelings honestly,
- 7:31Speaker 6: so I wasn't super confident that that was going to happen.
- 7:34Speaker 6: So all along, every time I was interviewed, I always said,
- 7:36Speaker 6: you know, I don't necessarily need to leave this engaged.
- 7:39Speaker 6: I need to leave this what my desire really is
- 7:42Speaker 6: is to leave this with a person that I am
- 7:45Speaker 6: interested in, like figuring out if it's going to work
- 7:47Speaker 6: outside of bachelination. So there was no engagement on my mind.
- 7:52Speaker 6: And then she met me, and that is kind of true.
- 7:57Speaker 6: So I met him and I was like, God, this
- 7:59Speaker 6: is like this could work. I immediately had an attraction.
- 8:02Speaker 6: We immediately had a connection. And the thing about this
- 8:07Speaker 6: journey is you do kind of have to have that
- 8:08Speaker 6: a little on the early side because it is fast, right,
- 8:11Speaker 6: And I selected him as my first date because I
- 8:13Speaker 6: kind of knew that in my mind that you need
- 8:15Speaker 6: to start developing this early on, especially because sometimes people
- 8:19Speaker 6: they're early like people that people that contestants that MAINZ
- 8:23Speaker 6: pick end up not being the person they thought they
- 8:26Speaker 6: were and then they're really behind. So you need to
- 8:28Speaker 6: figure out that really really early. So your favorite person
- 8:31Speaker 6: you kind of have to get the first date to
- 8:33Speaker 6: or a really early date. Otherwise you're you might not
- 8:36Speaker 6: have enough time to recover from that if they're not
- 8:38Speaker 6: and they don't end up being the right person. He
- 8:40Speaker 6: ended up having to be the right person. So I
- 8:42Speaker 6: had a really good amount of time. And the fact
- 8:44Speaker 6: that I didn't think I was going to fall in
- 8:46Speaker 6: love that quickly, like that wasn't true. I did, and
- 8:49Speaker 6: it happened so that when I said it works, it
- 8:51Speaker 6: really can work. I think there was a lot of
- 8:53Speaker 6: doubt left over from Gary season that people doubted that
- 8:56Speaker 6: it could work, and you know, I felt a little
- 9:00Speaker 6: responsible to like shatter that feeling. But it happened like
- 9:05Speaker 6: in a really unexpected way from me. Actually, I wanted
- 9:08Speaker 6: to leave with a relationship and didn't necessarily mean need
- 9:11Speaker 6: to be an engagement. But I am exactly where I
- 9:14Speaker 6: need to be. I am exactly right now.
- 9:15Speaker 2: You're right now, at this second, you're still feeling you're.
- 9:19Speaker 6: Exactly absolutely and way more and way more you can.
- 9:22Speaker 3: See it with you too.
- 9:24Speaker 5: It's like it's like we've been married for five years in.
- 9:27Speaker 6: A good way, like not in like oh we're more
- 9:29Speaker 6: you know old. Yeah, that's right exactly.
- 9:34Speaker 4: I like that I like that.
- 9:35Speaker 6: And you know, we were really fortunate because Baucher allowed
- 9:37Speaker 6: us to have five happy couples and that's a lot,
- 9:40Speaker 6: and you know, that's a lot. I don't remember how
- 9:41Speaker 6: many you had, but we had five, and so we
- 9:44Speaker 6: had we got to know each other outside of Bacher,
- 9:53Speaker 6: like kind of in our own little bubble still a
- 9:54Speaker 6: little bit of a bubble though, but we had our phone,
- 9:57Speaker 6: so I could hear his interactions with his kids and
- 9:59Speaker 6: with his work and you know, with his family, and
- 10:01Speaker 6: he could do the same thing with mine. And we
- 10:04Speaker 6: saw how that we got along. You know, on a
- 10:05Speaker 6: boring night, we binge watched The Secret Lives of Mormon
- 10:09Speaker 6: Wives and like.
- 10:10Speaker 4: We just speak, a great show and I have not
- 10:12Speaker 4: seen it.
- 10:14Speaker 6: It's really really good. And we cooked together and we
- 10:16Speaker 6: we kind of lived like an old married couple would
- 10:19Speaker 6: live in a house kind of secluded. So yeah, we
- 10:23Speaker 6: had some of the producers over so people know about us.
- 10:25Speaker 6: We're allowed to come over and invited and we so
- 10:27Speaker 6: we like had little dinner parties. So we lived like
- 10:30Speaker 6: a real couple. So when we came out of that
- 10:32Speaker 6: and we were actually finally announced and could like be
- 10:34Speaker 6: out in public, we are very comfortable with it.
- 10:47Speaker 4: See, we didn't have that on my season only because
- 10:50Speaker 4: I think it was just a different expectation of that time,
- 10:54Speaker 4: and I was pulled in so many different directions to
- 10:56Speaker 4: do things for the franchise and for the show.
- 10:58Speaker 3: At that time, we didn't we had like I think.
- 11:00Speaker 6: Two, no, that's impossible.
- 11:03Speaker 4: Yeah, And then it was like there wo'd be times
- 11:04Speaker 4: when I'd be in l A and they wouldn't even Gosh,
- 11:08Speaker 4: I even hate that I'm saying this on the area now,
- 11:09Speaker 4: but they wouldn't even let her know I was there
- 11:11Speaker 4: because they had me so scared, and it would be
- 11:14Speaker 4: like I'd be in and out, you know. And and
- 11:16Speaker 4: I'm kind of I'd do that a lot anyway with
- 11:18Speaker 4: my travel.
- 11:19Speaker 3: Yeah, but I was.
- 11:20Speaker 4: Like I remember thinking like I should see her, you know,
- 11:23Speaker 4: and like this time, Well, we'll have it next time.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:26Speaker 3: I did, of course you want to.
- 11:28Speaker 4: But it was like then you grow distant, right, you can't.
- 11:31Speaker 5: That never happened with us. Every other week we saw
- 11:33Speaker 5: each other and I talked to every day.
- 11:35Speaker 6: I had five weeks of press, I had tons of press,
- 11:37Speaker 6: and we figured out like how together.
- 11:40Speaker 4: I loved by the way this is and and I
- 11:42Speaker 4: knew this because when I when they asked me to
- 11:44Speaker 4: be the bachelor, I called trist and I were talking
- 11:46Speaker 4: and love Ryan and it was one of those things
- 11:48Speaker 4: where I was like, you know, tell me, like what
- 11:50Speaker 4: did you do to make this different? Like what did
- 11:52Speaker 4: you And She's like, honestly, the second I was done
- 11:54Speaker 4: with my press, I was done. And for trist had
- 11:57Speaker 4: to say that who you know, she thought of as
- 11:58Speaker 4: the fairy godmother, the Frandi right. She did Dancing with
- 12:01Speaker 4: the Stars, she did a whole bunch of things right
- 12:03Speaker 4: after after a season, but she really spent time investing
- 12:07Speaker 4: with Ryan because Ryan was averse to that stuff. He
- 12:11Speaker 4: wasn't wanting to do red Car like my wife, you know,
- 12:14Speaker 4: it's crazy Kenyon doesn't have any interest in and of
- 12:17Speaker 4: the things I do. And Ryan was was like, that's
- 12:20Speaker 4: not my thing. And so Trista invested in Ryan and.
- 12:23Speaker 6: I thought that was a big She's so smart, and
- 12:25Speaker 6: you know, I heard Charity say the same thing. So
- 12:27Speaker 6: when she came off of her season, she had to
- 12:30Speaker 6: go right to Dancing with the Stars, and she said
- 12:31Speaker 6: she really worried about her relationship with Dalton because she
- 12:35Speaker 6: didn't feel like it was solid enough to be able
- 12:37Speaker 6: to just take all this time off. But he es
- 12:39Speaker 6: actually show every.
- 12:40Speaker 4: Single dancing Intimately with some dude, we talked about this.
- 12:43Speaker 2: You're I think that the point here is you're not
- 12:47Speaker 2: the lead because it's I mean, Chalky, You're a confident guy.
- 12:51Speaker 2: You've got a good career, You're a good looking guy.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Like these things. You know, it might be a little different,
- 12:55Speaker 2: very good looking, very good, I.
- 12:56Speaker 3: Would say, incredibly.
- 12:59Speaker 4: Insanely. He's got Midwestern values. Come on, let's not let's
- 13:03Speaker 4: not get herself brother. I know you know that. I'm
- 13:08Speaker 4: saying the three guys here.
- 13:10Speaker 2: The reason it might be a little different with the
- 13:13Speaker 2: golden this this might not be a barrier. However, you
- 13:18Speaker 2: come off the Bachelor, Bachelorette and you're chosen, there's still
- 13:22Speaker 2: insecurities that exist. You're you maybe were proposed to on
- 13:26Speaker 2: the same day you broke up with somebody else. It's
- 13:28Speaker 2: a big deal.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Way it's edited. You think this guy was conflicted these.
- 13:33Speaker 5: Things and I don't even want to talk about that,
- 13:38Speaker 5: I know, but.
- 13:39Speaker 2: That brings me to to you. I mean, my point was,
- 13:44Speaker 2: you're still the lead a little bit after the show
- 13:46Speaker 2: because there is that, like I think on the Bachelor Bachelrette.
- 13:49Speaker 2: There is still that need to say, hey, let me
- 13:52Speaker 2: reassure you that you were chosen because I care about you,
- 13:55Speaker 2: I love you, you were the one, and you were
- 13:57Speaker 2: the one. Maybe for weeks this just won't look that way.
- 14:00Speaker 6: And yeah, maybe we've definitely had that conversation.
- 14:03Speaker 4: There was probably some times in there where you were like,
- 14:04Speaker 4: oh my god, is he going to be here for
- 14:07Speaker 4: this whole thing?
- 14:07Speaker 3: Is what's going on?
- 14:08Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 14:08Speaker 2: Absolutely, yeah, But that's where my point was going to
- 14:12Speaker 2: is chalk you and I take, and I mean, this
- 14:15Speaker 2: is the biggest compliment to you. You don't seem to
- 14:19Speaker 2: desire anything more than Joan. The show was great. The
- 14:23Speaker 2: show was great. Everything posts that is fun. I'm so
- 14:26Speaker 2: glad you came to night. I'm so glad to be
- 14:28Speaker 2: able to meet you. I'm so glad to be able
- 14:30Speaker 2: to share a drink with you. You don't seem like
- 14:32Speaker 2: a guy that's out here going what's next?
- 14:36Speaker 5: Not at all.
- 14:36Speaker 2: And so when you ended up on one knee with
- 14:41Speaker 2: Joan there the show ends. What has life looked like
- 14:45Speaker 2: for you and what does this feel like for you personally?
- 14:49Speaker 2: Since all this has happened.
- 14:51Speaker 5: Well, Joan and I talked about it, and there was
- 14:52Speaker 5: some times it was they didn't show this, but we
- 14:55Speaker 5: were talking about our future from the happy couples to
- 14:58Speaker 5: everything else. And I've got a business, I've got friends
- 15:01Speaker 5: in Witchdall. The good thing is my kids, my family
- 15:03Speaker 5: doesn't live there anymore, so we're going to figure that
- 15:05Speaker 5: out over the next year or two. What we're gonna do.
- 15:07Speaker 5: We're gonna do a lot of traveling. But the thing is,
- 15:10Speaker 5: if you love each other, you're gonna make it work. Absolutely.
- 15:13Speaker 5: And the good thing is we don't we're not in
- 15:16Speaker 5: a kid bearing age, so we don't have to worry
- 15:19Speaker 5: about that. Our kids are out of the house kind
- 15:21Speaker 5: of kind of. But we're just gonna have fun and
- 15:26Speaker 5: get it all worked out. And Joan is actually coming
- 15:29Speaker 5: back to Witchda on the eighteenth. I am been going
- 15:31Speaker 5: to spend five days back.
- 15:36Speaker 4: I've been there a bus.
- 15:37Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 15:37Speaker 4: I love throwing parties.
- 15:38Speaker 5: We're gonna have another party. So it's it's a lot
- 15:40Speaker 5: of fun. But it was interesting in New York City.
- 15:42Speaker 5: We'd run into people. Everybody recognizes Joe. I'm known as
- 15:46Speaker 5: that guy. They'll go Jojo, oh, and there's that guys.
- 15:51Speaker 4: I love what you're saying, we all know that that's
- 15:54Speaker 4: not true. But everyone does recognize Joe, but everyone recognizes
- 15:57Speaker 4: you as well. But I think it's so nice you
- 15:59Speaker 4: and are talking about that. It's like you take the
- 16:01Speaker 4: you understand. Hey man, I get it. This is the
- 16:05Speaker 4: queen and I'm gonna be.
- 16:07Speaker 5: I'm the reluctant d lister. I didn't want to sell that.
- 16:12Speaker 5: I've got a good career, you know, And it's it's fun.
- 16:15Speaker 5: It's stepping outside of your box, your comfort zone, and
- 16:18Speaker 5: to meet a lot of good people and to have fun.
- 16:21Speaker 5: And I'm at the point in my life where i
- 16:22Speaker 5: can have a little bit of fun and we can
- 16:24Speaker 5: enjoy things. And Joan's incredible at this. She is she
- 16:27Speaker 5: loves people, and you have to love people to do
- 16:29Speaker 5: this and to embrace them. I've never seen one person
- 16:32Speaker 5: that came up sid can I get a picture? And
- 16:34Speaker 5: she's turned them down. And from New York to d
- 16:37Speaker 5: C to LA and it's been a lot of fun.
- 16:40Speaker 5: And I'll just throw this out on the way out here.
- 16:42Speaker 5: We flew differently because we live in different towns, and
- 16:44Speaker 5: I said, how many people recognize and she was I
- 16:46Speaker 5: probably took fifty pictures at the airport, not one person
- 16:49Speaker 5: recognized me, and I was okay with that. I was,
- 16:52Speaker 5: but I did get recognized today at Norstroms.
- 16:55Speaker 4: Well, you got recognized today by that lady in the
- 16:58Speaker 4: parking lot who was just going easy.
- 17:00Speaker 5: I think they recognized Joan. Then they go, oh, that's
- 17:02Speaker 5: that guy. I'm a good point in my career where
- 17:06Speaker 5: I've done all this. You know, I've been the alpha.
- 17:08Speaker 5: I've done all this and this is the reality. I
- 17:11Speaker 5: want people to know this, Like before we come out
- 17:13Speaker 5: of go Joan, what do I need to wear?
- 17:14Speaker 4: Right? It does?
- 17:15Speaker 3: So you guys do look stunny, you know, tell me
- 17:17Speaker 3: what I.
- 17:18Speaker 5: Need to wear.
- 17:18Speaker 4: He's easy to dress stylish of course.
- 17:21Speaker 5: But Ben, I do want to talk about one thing,
- 17:23Speaker 5: and it's pretty personal. Is don't take her cell phone charger.
- 17:29Speaker 5: We've already had that because it was dominance of going
- 17:34Speaker 5: don't take my cell phone charge to know that, because
- 17:38Speaker 5: that's part of a real conversation, a real relationship. And
- 17:41Speaker 5: it was interesting because we had talked about it before
- 17:44Speaker 5: and I took it and oh my gosh, she was like,
- 17:47Speaker 5: you don't take myself.
- 17:48Speaker 4: I did.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Where is my No?
- 17:51Speaker 5: She goes, you don't. We're a real couple, I can
- 17:54Speaker 5: tell you.
- 17:55Speaker 2: At that point, all of a sudden stuff is being
- 17:57Speaker 2: said that you're like, wait, we've made it past a
- 17:59Speaker 2: nice zone's we don't know anything about that doing that's
- 18:11Speaker 2: all I know, And.
- 18:16Speaker 5: I know this is your guys show, but I do
- 18:18Speaker 5: want to tell you it's just an incredible experience. Because
- 18:21Speaker 5: I wouldn't looking for this. My daughter signed me up
- 18:23Speaker 5: for it. I had no idea and it was kind
- 18:26Speaker 5: of a little bit of an interpersonal challenge, going why
- 18:29Speaker 5: not go do this? And then I wouldn't expected to
- 18:32Speaker 5: fall into love with Joan. But I will tell you,
- 18:34Speaker 5: and this is one honest as I told the producers,
- 18:37Speaker 5: I go, if it's not Joan, I'm not going on.
- 18:39Speaker 5: And we've talked about it tight and I go, that's
- 18:42Speaker 5: who I want to meet. And I was so lucky.
- 18:44Speaker 5: From Disneyland.
- 18:45Speaker 2: It was over.
- 18:47Speaker 5: It was absolutely over, at least in my eyes. She
- 18:50Speaker 5: had a couple of guys.
- 18:52Speaker 4: When you get into Club three three, that's next level.
- 18:53Speaker 6: That's Walt Disney's home and it's where when they were
- 18:57Speaker 6: in Disneyland.
- 18:58Speaker 2: It was incredible.
- 19:00Speaker 6: Did you get to see the bedrooms, the kids bedrooms?
- 19:02Speaker 3: Yes, so yeah, there was a button on the wall,
- 19:05Speaker 3: and so Walt.
- 19:06Speaker 6: Disney wanted the bedrooms to be really special, like there
- 19:08Speaker 6: are night time rouching, to be really special. So there's
- 19:11Speaker 6: a button on the wall and you press the button,
- 19:12Speaker 6: and there's a girls and a boy's bedroom, and like
- 19:15Speaker 6: the boy's bedroom has a train track running all along
- 19:18Speaker 6: the ceiling, and you press the button and all of
- 19:20Speaker 6: a sudden there are stars all over the ceiling and
- 19:23Speaker 6: a huge tall ceiling.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Oh.
- 19:26Speaker 6: The girls room is like a jungle.
- 19:27Speaker 3: It's the coolest thing ever.
- 19:29Speaker 6: And so it like all these stars laid up and
- 19:31Speaker 6: the lights slowly dim and then the train starts going
- 19:34Speaker 6: around the rooms doing like It's a Small World or
- 19:37Speaker 6: some Disney song. It's incredible. And the girls is a
- 19:40Speaker 6: jungle theme and she has wallpaper that's like big leaves
- 19:44Speaker 6: and stuff. And the lights go down and you start
- 19:48Speaker 6: hearing like like chimpanzees making their sounds like all the
- 19:51Speaker 6: jungle sounds, and then the moon comes up in the sky.
- 19:56Speaker 6: It's absolutely it's magical. I mean, it's like like Walt
- 19:59Speaker 6: Disney real quick.
- 20:01Speaker 5: If I may reference to bedrooms fantasy sweeps, I never
- 20:05Speaker 5: saw one fantasy yeah, fantasy sweeps, I never saw it right.
- 20:10Speaker 5: She locked me out. So we had this great evening
- 20:20Speaker 5: and it was probably about eleven thirty and we're kind
- 20:22Speaker 5: of getting along real well and she goes time for
- 20:24Speaker 5: you to go.
- 20:25Speaker 2: Yeah, and she met it it.
- 20:27Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 20:28Speaker 2: Yeah, It's a beautiful thing. And to close out here,
- 20:34Speaker 2: if you I mean, and this is the last question
- 20:36Speaker 2: I want to ask you guys on a limit of time, Joan,
- 20:39Speaker 2: you mentioned that people fell in love with the franchise,
- 20:42Speaker 2: and I think Gary Season did a lot to give
- 20:45Speaker 2: people hope, but it ended in a way that was
- 20:50Speaker 2: unfortunate and uh not uncommon maybe for this franchise. But
- 20:55Speaker 2: if we were to put odds on this, I'm a
- 20:57Speaker 2: betting man. I love the sports bet. If we were
- 20:59Speaker 2: putting odds on the on just the chances at this
- 21:02Speaker 2: moment in time, that the two of you will be
- 21:05Speaker 2: together years to come, what would the odds be in
- 21:09Speaker 2: your guys mind, I'm gonna hundred percent, let's go.
- 21:12Speaker 4: I'm done. I'm done.
- 21:14Speaker 5: This is my man, and a lot of it too
- 21:16Speaker 5: is I'm not going to say maturity, but experience and
- 21:18Speaker 5: everything we've been through in life, and we've talked about it.
- 21:21Speaker 5: No one's perfect, No one's perfect. And you just we've
- 21:25Speaker 5: made a commitment. And commitment keeps marriages and relationships together.
- 21:29Speaker 4: It does.
- 21:29Speaker 5: And I was talking to when both people it was
- 21:33Speaker 5: the other the other ye have three kids. It's tough.
- 21:37Speaker 5: It is so tough at that age, and uh, you
- 21:40Speaker 5: know what challenges you. You don't sleep, you've got kids,
- 21:42Speaker 5: you make financial decisions, and for us it's been pretty easy.
- 21:45Speaker 5: But I'd say one hundred percent. Absolutely.
- 21:47Speaker 2: I can't wait. I mean, this is the best thing
- 21:49Speaker 2: to see.
- 21:49Speaker 3: I love you, guys.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Yeah, it's so.
- 21:51Speaker 5: Really well, excuse me if I will say, as long
- 21:53Speaker 5: as I don't take her cell phone truge o.
- 22:07Speaker 2: In the words of Billy Bob Thornton on the show
- 22:10Speaker 2: land Man.
- 22:14Speaker 3: Guys, which I'm very excited about.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Yes, and a Bachelor Uh Nation star Cassie Randolph's sister
- 22:22Speaker 2: is also in the show as a main character. Was great. Yeah,
- 22:27Speaker 2: he said this, and I'm gonna give it to you.
- 22:29Speaker 2: I don't have any advice to give to you in life.
- 22:31Speaker 2: You could teach me a thousand things, and I understand that.
- 22:33Speaker 2: But he said this in the last episode that I
- 22:35Speaker 2: want to show to share with you, based on the
- 22:37Speaker 2: charger that you stole and John. The daughter asks him, Dad,
- 22:42Speaker 2: how are you always right? And he goes, because I've
- 22:46Speaker 2: always been wrong and I just learned from my mistakes.
- 22:53Speaker 5: If if we could have just a couple of more seconds,
- 22:56Speaker 5: I gotta tell your story. So we were we were
- 22:58Speaker 5: going through an interview and one of the guys that podcast,
- 23:01Speaker 5: he said, what's Joan's middle name? We had talked about
- 23:04Speaker 5: it and I forgot it and it's Yvonne. And afterwards
- 23:08Speaker 5: and it made the press, it really made the press.
- 23:12Speaker 3: Middle name.
- 23:12Speaker 5: THEBC guy goes, you're lucky, went in front page. But
- 23:17Speaker 5: he goes, you know what, the good thing about this is,
- 23:19Speaker 5: you'll never forget it, never Yvonne. I will never forget
- 23:23Speaker 5: her name.
- 23:24Speaker 6: Forget jury and I knew it.
- 23:28Speaker 2: And what's his real first name?
- 23:29Speaker 3: Oh no, no, no, don't answer that. I know he
- 23:31Speaker 3: doesn't want anyone to know that. I'm not telling.
- 23:33Speaker 5: Yeah, but you know, guys, guys and Joan and all
- 23:37Speaker 5: the fans, I've been very lucky on this, very lucky.
- 23:40Speaker 5: And I know there's been you know, it's just I've
- 23:43Speaker 5: just been blessed and we were very lucky that this
- 23:46Speaker 5: happened to both of us. And the connection is real.
- 23:51Speaker 3: I genuinely do. I always loved Joan and now I
- 23:54Speaker 3: love you too. Love people. I'm a hugger, buddy, I've been.
- 23:59Speaker 5: Learning to hug. Can we talk about the next thing.
- 24:01Speaker 5: We got a little bit of time. So in the
- 24:03Speaker 5: Midwest we hold hands.
- 24:05Speaker 6: Okay, he's calling me out on all my faults on
- 24:09Speaker 6: National podcast. Everybody in the world's gonna know a handhold?
- 24:15Speaker 6: Is it a Midwest thing?
- 24:16Speaker 4: Is it me?
- 24:17Speaker 6: Do I have an issue?
- 24:19Speaker 3: But I don't need to intertwine. I just need to
- 24:21Speaker 3: at least be hand touch. It's the touch. I'm a
- 24:24Speaker 3: big hand guy.
- 24:25Speaker 6: He's a toucher. We're very cold people on the East Coast.
- 24:28Speaker 6: Very to take his hand now, sometimes I'm like I
- 24:33Speaker 6: should hold his hand because he likes that and he's
- 24:35Speaker 6: a touch person. So I do, like make an effort
- 24:37Speaker 6: now because I know it's like important him. But like,
- 24:39Speaker 6: we don't walk around holding hands. We don't walk through
- 24:42Speaker 6: them all holding hands.
- 24:43Speaker 2: I will that's weird. Hand every we walk not even
- 24:47Speaker 2: thinking about it because.
- 24:48Speaker 6: It's just automatic what we do.
- 24:49Speaker 5: I love it absolutely, And I got some some negative
- 24:53Speaker 5: feedback being cringeing because I touched her like a Disneyland.
- 24:56Speaker 5: I have my hand on her leg, and.
- 24:57Speaker 3: It wasn't sexual negative feedback for that.
- 24:59Speaker 5: Absolutely lose your girl and I love the It was naturals.
- 25:05Speaker 4: I am a very affectionate person, and I was told
- 25:08Speaker 4: once and it was the best advice I ever got
- 25:10Speaker 4: from a very reputable person by the way, who said,
- 25:13Speaker 4: get used to people commenting on your life while you
- 25:15Speaker 4: live here.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:17Speaker 4: Right, You're not sitting behind a computer keyboard tapping away
- 25:20Speaker 4: at somebody else's life.
- 25:21Speaker 3: You're living your own. So embrace that.
- 25:23Speaker 5: Do what you do.
- 25:24Speaker 3: Don't let other people get in the way of that. Right,
- 25:26Speaker 3: we said it.
- 25:27Speaker 6: He said it to my kid, and so he's like, like,
- 25:29Speaker 6: do you like said to my daughter or Alley? He said,
- 25:31Speaker 6: does Noah hold your hand? She goes, Oh, I punch him.
- 25:35Speaker 5: It's a crazy It's just I told Joy. Was at
- 25:39Speaker 5: a friend of mine we called smoke signals. We get
- 25:41Speaker 5: up the pool's house, we're gonna have drinks, cigars, and
- 25:43Speaker 5: that type of his wife comes out and kisses him
- 25:45Speaker 5: and hugsy and it's just a different deal.
- 25:51Speaker 4: It might be a coastal thing because my wife and
- 25:54Speaker 4: she literally looks at me, She's like, oh my god,
- 25:56Speaker 4: you know have to kiss me.
- 25:56Speaker 3: Every time you leave the room.
- 25:57Speaker 2: I'm like, here's the truth to it. He cares about
- 26:04Speaker 2: you so much that he wants to be as close
- 26:06Speaker 2: to you as possible. And how sweet is that?
- 26:09Speaker 6: I feel really guilty. I feel like he is so
- 26:12Speaker 6: like kind and wants to like be like reinforce us
- 26:14Speaker 6: all the time. And I am like this cold, awful
- 26:17Speaker 6: East Coast. But it's not because I don't feel it
- 26:20Speaker 6: for I truly do. I just like I I probably
- 26:23Speaker 6: it's probably not my love language.
- 26:26Speaker 1: It might not be.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I haven't ever read that stuff.
- 26:28Speaker 5: But I know you guys have other people to talk to.
- 26:30Speaker 5: But next time have us on your podcast, I'm gonna
- 26:32Speaker 5: talk about Jones driving.
- 26:34Speaker 3: Oh this could be absolutely second places to go and busy.
- 26:42Speaker 5: Absolutely.
- 26:43Speaker 6: I'm like, you know, I let everybody changing in front
- 26:47Speaker 6: of me, but when I'm in.
- 26:48Speaker 2: My line, I go, Okay, Joan, this is obviously the
- 26:53Speaker 2: baby shower. And I know you have advice for me
- 26:55Speaker 2: that you want to share. I was supposed to say
- 26:57Speaker 2: that it's all right, I got it.
- 27:00Speaker 6: He knows he needs it, he knows he needs it. Okay,
- 27:03Speaker 6: So okay, there's so much advice. So like first one
- 27:05Speaker 6: like call the grandparents every minute you get because they'll
- 27:08Speaker 6: come runny. But I remember a really distinct thing that
- 27:12Speaker 6: all fathers need to know because it's a particularly big
- 27:15Speaker 6: one with fathers. So you know, you're having a girl,
- 27:19Speaker 6: so it's not quite as prevalent, but there are a
- 27:21Speaker 6: lot of body fluids when you have a baby. You
- 27:24Speaker 6: know this, A lot of stuff ends up on you,
- 27:28Speaker 6: and like, don't be cringe about it, because it's going
- 27:30Speaker 6: to happen. Not as much with the girl. Boys are
- 27:33Speaker 6: the issue. But there's a thing that dads love to do,
- 27:37Speaker 6: and it's the airplane thing. So they lay on their
- 27:39Speaker 6: back and they put you do this right, You put
- 27:42Speaker 6: your feet in the air, and you put the baby
- 27:44Speaker 6: like on your feet, like not until like ten months
- 27:46Speaker 6: or so, maybe a year maybe, and you hold their
- 27:48Speaker 6: hands and you do the airplane thing. And this is
- 27:52Speaker 6: not an uncommon thing that happens. For some reason, fathers
- 27:56Speaker 6: love to do this after the baby has had a
- 27:58Speaker 6: big bottle or a big meal and you're pushing on there,
- 28:02Speaker 6: you're pushing on their little tummies and they vomit and
- 28:06Speaker 6: the dads all seem to all have their mouth open.
- 28:09Speaker 4: I've always done it, did it happen to you multiple absolutely, yeah,
- 28:15Speaker 4: like ten times.
- 28:16Speaker 6: So it's the airplane. Baby's gonna vomit in your mouth
- 28:20Speaker 6: if you don't close your mouth.
- 28:21Speaker 2: That's amazing.
- 28:23Speaker 6: Honestly, you know people are gonna be like, you know,
- 28:24Speaker 6: get sleep when you can. I'm telling you're gonna vomit
- 28:27Speaker 6: in your mouth unless you watch out, disclose on the.
- 28:29Speaker 5: Belly more love based. I mentioned this earlier. It's especially
- 28:39Speaker 5: when you have multiple kids. It's probably the toughest time
- 28:41Speaker 5: in your life. I've been through almost everything, and it
- 28:45Speaker 5: is tough. And love your partner and understand them and
- 28:49Speaker 5: sit there and it's tough because you might go, hey,
- 28:51Speaker 5: can you get up and change the baby? Can you
- 28:52Speaker 5: feed the baby? Be there for them because it will pass.
- 28:56Speaker 5: It's just it's just so important to support the other person.
- 29:01Speaker 5: And frankly, from a man's perspective, you've got to support
- 29:03Speaker 5: them because we have no idea what they're going through.
- 29:06Speaker 3: For God's sake, Yeah, I love the better things.
- 29:10Speaker 6: Don't forget to laugh, yeah, because you'll be stressed and
- 29:13Speaker 6: sometimes you'll get the giggles and let it happen like
- 29:16Speaker 6: the baby, like vomiting all over you and your mouth.
- 29:20Speaker 6: Laugh because you need to have laughter because you're gonna
- 29:22Speaker 6: be tired, aggravated.
- 29:23Speaker 5: But also, and that's the you've got to do that.
- 29:25Speaker 5: But be supportive and help that person, help your spouse,
- 29:29Speaker 5: help your loved one, take terms, giving them bass and
- 29:32Speaker 5: the the and just be there. And it's tough. It
- 29:36Speaker 5: was the toughest part in my life raising kids. It
- 29:40Speaker 5: was just it's different from zero to three to four
- 29:42Speaker 5: years old. But I say you, I excelled when they
- 29:44Speaker 5: got older. I loved it when they were mobile.
- 29:47Speaker 3: Where the dad that is where the dad takes time.
- 29:49Speaker 4: I'm trying to be a big part of this zero
- 29:51Speaker 4: to six phase because I'm old, you know. So it's
- 29:55Speaker 4: like I'm trying to be like, you know, a little
- 29:56Speaker 4: more hands on and that in that regard and give
- 29:58Speaker 4: Canyon a break because she's got it all. Yeah, I
- 30:02Speaker 4: was gonna say I about the kind of well both
- 30:05Speaker 4: you said. The laughing thing I think is the greatest
- 30:07Speaker 4: advice is so fun, right because I know you know
- 30:10Speaker 4: this story about me. But when we moved from Seattle
- 30:12Speaker 4: back to Detroit.
- 30:13Speaker 3: We flew back. My dog was a children's hospital dog
- 30:16Speaker 3: sat at.
- 30:16Speaker 4: Our feet, babies in arms with Canyon and she's momming
- 30:21Speaker 4: it up like a million percent, like she always does.
- 30:23Speaker 3: And our dog.
- 30:26Speaker 4: Stayed the night at our friend's place the night before
- 30:28Speaker 4: and had an accident on the plane, not just one,
- 30:31Speaker 4: but two explosive diarrhea. It was tragic, guys, tragic. I
- 30:36Speaker 4: went through every bottle of water they had. I went
- 30:38Speaker 4: through all the first class napuns because I got up grade,
- 30:40Speaker 4: because I fly a lot.
- 30:41Speaker 3: It was insane. I come back.
- 30:43Speaker 4: Canyon hadn't seen a movie in so long because she'd
- 30:46Speaker 4: been up every night with a baby. She's watching wrestling
- 30:48Speaker 4: with my family, starting Daine the Rock Johnson, not a plug,
- 30:52Speaker 4: just the truth, tears.
- 30:53Speaker 3: She's eating my ravioli. I'm like, our dog's the plane,
- 30:57Speaker 3: and she's like, well so did your son.
- 31:01Speaker 4: Both. So I'm in the knots in the bathroom changing
- 31:04Speaker 4: a diaper and he's wiping things on me, and I'm
- 31:06Speaker 4: losing my mind. I looked at the mir and I'll
