- 0:00Mister Bradman, you're a huge hit. Really, how why it is the
- 0:03web world? Wow? I can't. We want to offer you your old
- 0:08job back with a fifty increase. Hmm. Thanks to close your eyes for
- 0:15two seconds. One till held out as long as that car. Four finger
- 0:22discount dude, Welcome to fourfing are Discount where. This week we are going
- 0:41to be reviewing the final episode of season eighteen. I can't believe we got
- 0:45all the way through. We're here to review. You can't always get what
- 0:49you want. I don't know. You can't always say what you want.
- 0:53Oh yeah, I'm just Laddie brain. We just established this, I said
- 0:57to Guy off the air, because Easter weekend just went by. I said,
- 0:59I think I had a good Easter. I can't quite remember, though,
- 1:02I remember little drips and drabs. Daddy Brain, I just lack a
- 1:04sleep. Just I don't know what it is these days. But I just
- 1:07can't think I wholly understand where you're coming from. By the way, my
- 1:10name is Guy, also known as God's Little Belly Acre, and yes,
- 1:15I'm feeling much the same way. We are recording this on a Wednesday morning.
- 1:19Easter is only a few days behind us, Yet neither Dan dandel war.
- 1:23Dude, don't do it. Dandy continued, It's the new Star Wars
- 1:27series called Dan Door. I may watch this. You would definitely watch it
- 1:34if it was a bad Dan do. It's basically about a Star Wars father
- 1:37trying to wrangle his kids and keep control of his But we are three days
- 1:42past the Easter Sunday, the Easter weekend, and yeah, neither of us
- 1:47can really remember what we did. Dano has an excuse. He brought together
- 1:52the Dan Doo clan, had a lot of Easter egg hunting, just a
- 1:55lot of, you know, good wholesome family time. I'm pretty sure the
- 1:57Lovely Louise and I just crashed on the couch. You said, you're watching
- 2:00World's Craziest Airports. Yeah, add night swim. Now I want to discuss
- 2:04the night swim. That's what I really want to discuss. We're discussing night
- 2:06swimming. I don't know how it came up, but it was basically,
- 2:08a guy buys a house with a haunted pool, and I said, how
- 2:10do you establish that your pool is haunted? What has to happened for this
- 2:14to occur? I am being very remiss in my duties as film critic.
- 2:20You can boot me off the movie guys for this. I'm pretty sure I
- 2:22checked out, like maybe half an hour or forty minutes into it, because
- 2:23like, how much can you do with a haunted swimming pool? How does
- 2:27it kill people? Spoiler alert? But I'm pretty sure it drowns them or
- 2:31I think it acts in a way. It's like, this was my idea,
- 2:34and if it turned out to be something better or worse than this,
- 2:37well either I oh the film an apology or I'm just going to shape my
- 2:39fist at it. I was like, I think the pool might be possessed
- 2:43by some spirit, whereby if you sacrifice something to the pool, it'll give
- 2:47you something back. So if you like drowned your kid or something, it'd
- 2:52be like, here's a hot crust bunt. I would do it for two
- 2:58hot Did you go one with the hot gross? I didn't eat one this
- 3:02entire season. I've never been huge and oaster when I was maybe late teens,
- 3:07like the chocolate chip ones, but they stopped doing the cabri one,
- 3:10so they just do the home brand chocolate now, and I'm like it doesn't
- 3:14taste very good. They used to do Cabriary style ones, which cost a
- 3:16couple of dollars extra, but the cabri style ones or the Cabrity drops inside
- 3:19the chocolate drops were much better. Well, they still have those of woolies,
- 3:23don't they do they believe because yeah, lose kids went wild for those,
- 3:28and they had the Cabrian chocolate ones. Yeah, they were eating them
- 3:30for like a very long time up until a Christmas time they do. I
- 3:36mean, it's become a running joke on social media that, you know,
- 3:38it's become a running joke on social media that if you a day or so
- 3:44after Christmas, like time for Easter and people sort of get up at arms
- 3:49about it. I'm like, hot gross buns are out there, man.
- 3:51Yeah, but it's weird though where they do they still put hot cross buns
- 3:54out throughout the year and just go heavy with them at Easter season or is
- 3:58it a case of they go right Easter is over, no one's gonna want
- 4:00to et crosunchs. I'm pretty sure if it's the middle of July and it's
- 4:02cold and there's hot cross buns there to purchase, people are going to buy
- 4:04them. Surely they must still bake them. I was at the supermarket last
- 4:10night, and they had a whole heap out. I think it was the
- 4:13flavor that no one liked, which is apple cinnamon, which I like,
- 4:15Oh, really, you're the weird guy. Though you're the guy. It's
- 4:16the pickle. You didn't the pickle, but you have all the You like
- 4:18the Yeah, I do, Indeed, I like the chaser. Would you
- 4:23say Louise is a variant on a million? That's a better way of putting
- 4:28it. Yeah, she's she's red, she's one of one, she's the
- 4:31gold card, she's the golden snitch, the golden ticket, and that would
- 4:35make me Harry Potter. But you can't always say what you wanted me.
- 4:41We should wrap a few things up just quickly. Watch this movie called Night
- 4:44Swim. Yes, man, my opinion was, if I bought a house
- 4:47with a swim haunted swimm pool, I would simply go to the beach.
- 4:53They would put that on the on the least though may or may not be
- 4:56haunted swim at risk, at risk did not swim a full stomach? Yes,
- 5:00or you know, if I fady go for spook. You can't always
- 5:06say what you want. What did you think of this as a season finale.
- 5:10My first note is it took half the episode before we got to the
- 5:14story. Of half half the episode. Look, it was nine minutes and
- 5:18forty five seconds or some before Kent said something that you shouldn't said on the
- 5:21end. I'm thinking it took nine and a half minutes to get to the
- 5:26story. What are we doing here? I know what are we doing?
- 5:28This really felt assembled from leftover pieces left around lying around the writer's room floor.
- 5:33I liked the Tracy Alman short at the start celebrate the twentieth anniversary,
- 5:38and it proves that they're still out there and available in HD. Can we
- 5:41get those things released? Please? If you're watching Simpson's HQ and you've got
- 5:45access to release those Simpson shorts from the Almond days, do it please.
- 5:47I want to watch them. I don't want to watch shitty bootleg versions on
- 5:49you too want to watch them, no good quality, So please release them.
- 5:54Also, if you're watching Simpsons HQ, put us on the payroll.
- 5:56Yeah, do it? Why not? We won't do anything. We just
- 5:58want to be on the payroll. That's a better say. It's the American
- 6:02dream, It's the world wide dream, Yes it is. Indeed, how
- 6:05big is How big is the Web? How wide is the web? World?
- 6:09World? Yes, so I liked I liked the short at the start
- 6:12to celebrate in the twenty anniversary, right, but it just went on that
- 6:15bit where Marge's trying to get to the school. I was thinking, are
- 6:17we going to get to the end of this or what? Okay, I
- 6:21know that's a parody of something. Yes, I'm putting a minute het.
- 6:24Yeah, it's a tribute to the Coen Brothers movie Raising Arizona, Nicholas Cage
- 6:29and Holy Hunter. Yes, because apparently Cage rust of run somewhere or something.
- 6:31Yeah, And it's using that very point of view shot all the way
- 6:35through, and the banjo music is directly from Raising Aerage just that one shot
- 6:40or was the whole movie from his point of view? Oh no, no,
- 6:42not the whole movie. Okay, there are sequences in it that are
- 6:45very much like that. So, and it's, by the way, one
- 6:47of the great American comedies in nineteen eighties. Fantastic movie. Love Raising Arizona.
- 6:53Okay, Yeah, I highly recommend you watching. Oh, we'll check
- 6:55that out. I wonder IF's available on Disney Plus. It may well be
- 6:58Disney Plus. You notice have changed the color scheme now of Disney Plus it's
- 7:01not blue anymore. It's almost like an aqua. Has it gone teal?
- 7:04Yes, it has become tea independence exactly. Yeah, and the political reference
- 7:09of no one else. I think the sound is a bit different now at
- 7:11the start. And well, I noticed that the thumbnails are changing because I'm
- 7:14getting the dancing Lisa now as opposed to them in Sungloves. They always do
- 7:17that, but this is like changing you have. Everything has their own sound
- 7:19when you turn them on, like Netflix. Do Doom mentioned that Netflix change
- 7:24that it's a slight change, but it throws me off now when I open
- 7:29up the app, Dan, I was looking genuinely discombobulated, but I wasn't
- 7:32impressed. I don't like things changing. Don't put existing clocks, just lee
- 7:36things as they are. I don't want to were's the clouds on to shape
- 7:39my fists? You know? Just but I you well and truly have steer
- 7:43into middle age. You were talking about it the other day about something you
- 7:46mentioned on on maybe in the Facebook page, about something oh generation X.
- 7:49It started when I started started noticing haircuts and going, that's just ridiculous.
- 7:54That's that was where's the start. Yeah, I was like, uh,
- 7:57I'm making fun of I'm annoyed at people's hair. I'm getting old. Yeah,
- 8:01oh yeah, were you watching? Were you watching the football? That's
- 8:03when I first started happening, and watching all the younger footballs with their shaved,
- 8:07obnoxious mullets, and I'm thinking, what are you doing? Yeah,
- 8:09just shaving this living part around the temples, and then seeing little kids doing
- 8:13it as well, And I look at their dads and their dad's had the
- 8:16same haircut, and I'm thinking, what are you doing to your kids?
- 8:18This is a systemic child abuse that the vicious circle or cycle of ongoing abuse
- 8:24is just continuing to happen. Well, I will say though, I was
- 8:28very impressed that there there's about three or four kids in an Elliott's classroom who
- 8:31have just shit haircuts. They're just shitty haircuts. One's got a rattail.
- 8:35You think, what are you doing? Like, They're clearly not good for
- 8:37these kids at all. Right, Clearly I see it as the parent is
- 8:41putting the haircut that they wish they could do onto the child and living by
- 8:43charrousip. But anyway, it was Ferdoy Day last week and these kids rocked
- 8:46up with all nice haircuts, and I was like, there's a haircut.
- 8:50You can set your watch too. Thank goodness, you wake up to yourselves,
- 8:52because that kid with a thirty centimeter rattail. It's not good, not
- 8:56good at all. I some times think going bald maybe one of the best
- 9:03things that happened to Guy as he went into middle age, because I'm fairly
- 9:07weak willed, and I seek the approval of the crowd, and I probably
- 9:11would have got an inappropriate haircut for a man of my advanced years. You
- 9:15and I know someone about you know, forty ye ish that does that sometimes.
- 9:18Oh yeah, they redacted. What are you doing? How we get
- 9:33to talking about haircut? Me getting old? Yeah, that's right. I
- 9:35don't know. Just but I can't remember raising Arizona for something to do with
- 9:41that. It could well be, well, I think it may well be
- 9:45on Disney Plus, which Disney plus changing the thing, which changing? But
- 9:48so yes, okay, so do you you appreciated it? Did you?
- 9:52That's that thing? I just thought it was going on and on and on
- 9:54it did. Go listens to the show. Will know that when I rent
- 10:01my handwritten notes, hold them on to the camera, going, hold them
- 10:05up, make me worse something one day good will be. I've got my
- 10:09old book of notes them. Yeah, that's got written on it f ft
- 10:13nets. We should scan that and just put it on the Patreon just for
- 10:16I thought you're about to say we should scan that, by which I mean
- 10:18we would like hold an auction for charity. Please will pay you to take
- 10:26them, take take these off our hands, will put the money in the
- 10:30charity of your of our choice. So by which I made my bank account
- 10:35in your notes. So you're you're bringing I have a green highlighted, which
- 10:39means it's good. Raise the gazonn a shout out with the exclamation park next
- 10:43letter. Okay, this is going on a bit long. Yeah, just
- 10:46when it felt like there was a three or four moments in this episode where
- 10:52it just dragged and it felt like I was padding this ship out. Yeah,
- 10:54yeah, but certainly that first halt man, Yeah, what was even
- 10:58the story? I kind of remember now that the other dentists. That's right,
- 11:03Well, they're playing pictionary with pat mate. They've got to get to
- 11:07the dentist. Then there's a whole thing at the dentist and Ludacris is there,
- 11:11and how does it how does hom Ice went the way home, and
- 11:16that's right. And when I said, I was like, we went through
- 11:18all that ship but hoping to onto smart life for buying your fucking ice cream.
- 11:22That's one big exciting incident. Creepers. Man, what is happening?
- 11:28Oh man? Speaking of what is happening, let's talk about Menace Tooth Society.
- 11:33Yes, so that movie apparently had mixed reviews. Menace to Society,
- 11:41Yes, is that true? I believe so. Yeah. I don't think
- 11:43I've ever actually seen Menace too. So when Lisa says this thing has mixed
- 11:48messages, apparently that's what a lot of the critics said the film. Okay,
- 11:50I can't really work out what it's trying to be. I think it
- 11:54was. I'm trying to remember exactly when it came out. I think it's
- 11:56early ninety and it was in the world of Boys in the Hood. So
- 12:01you've got a whole wake of hood movies, African American hood movies, and
- 12:05this one was done by the Hughes brothers, who were actually pretty good filmmakers
- 12:09and did a really great movie after this one called Dead Presidents. But I
- 12:11think a lot of people going, well, is this telling it like it
- 12:16is about how these in the hood or is it just you know, neo
- 12:20blax'sploitation. And I was like, I don't care, man, it's cool,
- 12:24but this but this version Menace tooth Society is as your dance? What
- 12:31was it? Baby got back? What bacteria? Bacteria? Yeah, the
- 12:35wordplay was the was fantastic. I couldn't tell if they were taking the piss
- 12:41out of pandering public service announcements because there were so many that just employed hip
- 12:46hop tropes to get down with the kids. Yeah, what are the kids
- 12:50into? What are they down with? They're down with hip hops. Let's
- 12:52talk about brushing your teeth in the in in that vernacular. But I don't
- 12:58know. This had Hank's voice all over it, and these days that's kind
- 13:03of a red flag. Yeah, in some way it does. Yeah,
- 13:07but when they let's bust up these whities and I was like, oh,
- 13:09okay, okay, I found it pretty funny. And the fact that they
- 13:15actually got ludicrous into to do it. But please was his real name?
- 13:20I think that's one of my questions. Okay, Chris, only his name
- 13:22is Chris, Chris Bridges, Chris Bridges. Okay, It's one thing I
- 13:26love about wrestlers, about hip hop guys who make the transition from one thing
- 13:31to the other. I mean, for a while, when when The Rock
- 13:35started making movies, he was build as the Rock, and then he was
- 13:37Dwayne the Rock Johnson. Now it's just Dwayne Johnson and The Rock again.
- 13:41Yeah, okay, Well, once he's backing a movie, and it's just
- 13:46because he owns the Rock. He wasn't because basically Vincaman didn't like him using
- 13:50the term the Rock because he owned that trademark. So the reason The Rock
- 13:54one of the things he agreed to come back, was only if he could
- 13:56get the rights to the trademark of the Rock, which he now owns.
- 14:00Yeah, we say this on pretty much every episode, but we're loving the
- 14:03Rocks. Heel turned. But also, you know, when Luda was started
- 14:09making movies, he was built as Ludicrous and I think, yeah, he's
- 14:11a picture of the Fast and Furious movies. I think in the in the
- 14:15credits there, he's Chris Ludicrous bridges a lot of the more transitioning the notes
- 14:18you had our cool j Yeah, I think went by James Todd Smith his
- 14:24actual okay Christian name. Did he even in Deep Impact? I think there's
- 14:31only in one movie that he went. But it was like James Tod Smith
- 14:33okay, cool ja okayone was like nobody wants James Todd Smith in a movie.
- 14:39Everyone wants what about Coolier? He was in something? Oh Coolier was
- 14:41in here? Yeah. Yeah, But I'm trying to think of how many
- 14:45actually I thought, but he is the name is on my birth certificate,
- 14:48or if I want to really transition and become a proper star. I don't
- 14:52think many did, did they? Not? Many? Yeah? The rock
- 14:56went to Dwayne, but I mean Triple H goes by Triple H. Actually
- 15:00Paul Lavec because he's the boss now he's the Paul of Ec. I'm wondering
- 15:03if he has actually pulled Levec in any movies. He might movies he wouldn't
- 15:07have been. No, but if in the wrestling now he's referred to as
- 15:09Paul Yeah, okay, yeah. Interesting. But the story here also is
- 15:13just a what would you call it? Not a satire? I guess of
- 15:16just censorship and going to the extreme when someone makes it. A blueprist has
- 15:22a swear on the air, it's cancer culture, cancel culture. Yeah,
- 15:24it's pre dating cancer culture. Yeah, that was a real thing, and
- 15:28it was a definitely a real thing for Fox. I guess this episode doesn't
- 15:30really work now because it's pre social media because if you say something now,
- 15:33it's available online, right, but no one was watching, which means he
- 15:37was essentially getting away. That wasn't until Flanders watched an old tape that he
- 15:41then said, look, this needs to be you know, he needs to
- 15:43get in trouble for this. So it doesn't really work in this format in
- 15:46twenty twenty four. Not quite. It's a look back. That's not bad
- 15:48because we can't judge an episode that was relevant in two thousand and seven or
- 15:52whatever and say it's not relevant now. It was when it was on an
- 15:56air. But I still wasn't sold on the episode. At the end of
- 15:58it, I just went, oh, I was all right. And I've
- 16:02read so many good reviews online, people saying it's one of the best wides
- 16:04of the season. I was very surprised to read that. I just didn't
- 16:07do much for me. I don't have to go that far, but I
- 16:10think I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, but there wasn't enough
- 16:12of it, though I think it's certainly less than some of the parts.
- 16:15I enjoyed all its parts pieces, but in terms of oh, this doesn't
- 16:19really feel like it hangs together all that well. I mean, it's almost
- 16:22like it's two episodes. Yeah, twenty two short films about Springfield in a
- 16:26way, but it felt like two stories. This is the data more than
- 16:30stories. It did exactly, you're right, yeah, but the ending,
- 16:33I get the reason is sort of cut off short. That's the sort of
- 16:36the gag. But I felt that was also their way of writing themselves out
- 16:38of a hole because they rate out of time. Again. Yeah, I
- 16:41think it felt like it had more ideas that it wanted to express, that
- 16:45an actual story that it wanted to tell. Because the gimmick of Brockmann going
- 16:49back at the top of a hat money's offered more money, money doesn't land
- 16:53as well because he didn't. It wasn't it never should have been poor,
- 16:59but he wasn't sort of going through trouble for too long. It was like
- 17:00three minutes of the episode he was down in my luck and I'm making this
- 17:03video and we have one scene where two teenagers go, hey, you're doing
- 17:07a great job, and in the same scene Lisa's like, oh no,
- 17:11you're changing the world. Now you're doing a great thing. He gets off
- 17:14of money, he goes back, and I'm thinking it should have been ten
- 17:15minutes of him changing his ways and you know, making a difference in the
- 17:21world, and then the drop of all more money. That would have had
- 17:22more of an impact, in my opinion, than just two minutes. Oh
- 17:26yeah, absolutely. It seemed odd that Ken Brockman ended up sleeping on the
- 17:30Simpsons couch. Yeah, you need a bridging scene or two, or a
- 17:34crisp bridging scene. Why though I know that they they tried to write themselves
- 17:38a scene, I'm just concerned he might do this a suicide like suicide.
- 17:42I'm thinking that's just that's lazy. It's like we want to keep rock when
- 17:47deliver the Simpsons. He would never live on the Simpsons couch. That's an
- 17:49escape patch. Yeah, why would he agree to do that. It's just
- 17:52it's ridiculous. He's got to mansion. One might even say it's ludicrous.
- 17:57That's not the first time you're going to hear that joke today, folks,
- 18:00stay tuned. My favorite I feel like you've covered my favorite moment with any
- 18:06other favorite moments for you. Well, let's see what I've I got in
- 18:08green here raising Arizona shout out. I enjoyed very much, as you know,
- 18:14big fan of Arnie Pie in this house, we worship Arnie Pie,
- 18:18and very glad to see that you got a promotion. Well that was good
- 18:21news. This is the thing though, of that scene. No, I'm
- 18:22nitpicking, right, maybe he's just got a lets of the bad taste my
- 18:25Methods episode by the way ended and everything. But he says, I'm being
- 18:29demoted to weatherman on the weekends. Right, he gets out of his chair
- 18:32and starts doing the weather. I'm like, it's not the weekend? What's
- 18:34going on here? Yes, there are some parts you don't have to think
- 18:38about it too much, or perhaps even shouldn't. You shouldn't. That's the
- 18:41thing. Yeah, I know that I would totally watch Landing Strip. It
- 18:45seemed like I I merely thought of you when that came on. Yeah,
- 18:49I did, like Ken just climb, yeah, close your eyes for two
- 18:52seconds, Lisa jumping into the army the stretch, humming, hey, hell
- 18:56that as long as I go. I just don't understand. And I've always
- 19:00thought that brockmann stick was that he was this guy who just he's over the
- 19:06top and he's doing this fake news and he doesn't care at all. He
- 19:08has no morals, but he's just like whatever for a quick buck. And
- 19:11then he seems to be bothered that they're not talking about it at a hot,
- 19:14hot button topic because Home is on the show. And I'm thinking he
- 19:18wouldn't care. That's what has been that's almost been his thing up to this
- 19:22point. I think it's asking the viewers to do a bit of heavy lifting
- 19:26and do a bit of extrapolating. I mean, I've always been of a
- 19:30mind that journalists don't really get into journalism, even broadcast journal, news reader
- 19:36or anything like that, you know, strictly for a payday. I mean,
- 19:38there are far better careers. And I mean if you wire someone who
- 19:41can either good evening and welcome to such and such, I mean, yeah,
- 19:45you can find ways to monetize that that are probably less onerous than reading
- 19:49the news. If you've got a way with language or whatever, go into
- 19:53pr it's probably going to pay better. You know. You go into journalism
- 19:56because you think, well, I can make a difference in some way,
- 19:59or I want to communicate important ideas or relevant information to the general public.
- 20:07If you may make a success of it. And also just as you get
- 20:11older, it's like, well, like the bills to pay and being the
- 20:14independent journalist who's you know, breaking the mark and holding truth to power,
- 20:18speaking truth to power or whatever. You can have a solid gold house if
- 20:22that's the you won't have a solid gold house with a solid gold toilet.
- 20:23And that's what we all aspire to. So yeah, eventually you're gonna sell
- 20:29out to some degree. But every once in a while you'll probably go what
- 20:33happened to the dream man? I used to have principles and ideals and all
- 20:37that kind of stuff. It's like, oh, but solid gold toilet toilet?
- 20:41So I did. So I get the feeling that Brockman is probably like
- 20:44that. Every once in a while he realizes, oh, wait a minute,
- 20:48I'm going to Enivy, the guy who who bought the million diarts cream
- 20:51cone. I don't want to dissay there's a very local reference for sorry to
- 20:57people who were quite honestly, we could have just had them walking into the
- 21:02ice cream store as the start of the episode. You didn't need anything leading
- 21:04up to that, none of it. You didn't need anyone, say,
- 21:07someone like Tracy Grimshaw. He used to host a show on in a straight
- 21:10called The Current Affair. Joyce was she intimidated the shit out of me when
- 21:14I was a kid. She was a good journalist, Oh yeah, absolutely,
- 21:17and a good presenter as well. But I mean a current affair was
- 21:19very much. He has six months. The person next door is not mowing
- 21:26their lawn. How does it feel to catch sitting on their doorsteps? To
- 21:30be adjacent to the neighbor From here, this is a current affair, maybe
- 21:33for the person in the house next door, not for me. So Tracy
- 21:37is probably making money hand over for this. But at the same time going
- 21:41he used to have integrity, man, So I get where Kent is coming
- 21:44from. Here as a boiling point, you think, yeah, And it's
- 21:47a nice cynical thing that he realized. I held out my principle as long
- 21:51as that good good ching yea. And now a word from our sponsor,
- 21:57Yeah, check out my shouldn't we Gavin shre Gilmore too apparently Now is it?
- 22:03Is it Christopher McDonald who's saying this? And is anyone else saying this?
- 22:08Yeah? Is the Sandman saying See the Samman hasn't said it's not happening.
- 22:12Friend of the pod. Yes, can you imagine what Adam Sandler on
- 22:15here? Just a whole see we're speaking your language, you're anyway. But
- 22:26yeah, I think he is saying that because he's trying to sort of put
- 22:29it into the universe. He's manifest because now have enough people say we can't
- 22:33wait to see it, the sam is gonna go, ah, fuck,
- 22:37well I've got my eleven thousand picture deal with Netflix. Maybe Happy film or
- 22:41two could be one. Well, maybe he's just because he's a smart man,
- 22:45Adam Sandler, right, and she's a big deal of Netflix obviously.
- 22:47Maybe he's just gone, hey McDonald, put it into the universe. Let's
- 22:51just see what I see, what happens to people say if they're looking forward
- 22:53to it, and because the thing is then he can always go, oh,
- 22:56now he's just making it up, you know. By the way,
- 22:57speaking happy, you're more, That's what I was going to say. We
- 23:00need to send a rest in peace to the late great Joe Flaherty Jackass.
- 23:07Jackass a terrific comic actor. He was on sc TV, which is pretty
- 23:12the Canadian equivalent for Saturday launching Power the likes of John Candy, Eugene Levy,
- 23:18Martin Short, Rick morandas I believe, maybe not Rick Mirannas, but
- 23:23certainly a lot of a lot of cool talent came out of that one.
- 23:26He was on one of my favorite TV shows of all time, Freaks and
- 23:30Geeks, and of course he was on Happy Good One and look in a
- 23:33bunch of movies recently recently passed away, love Red Lobster, Love Red Lobster,
- 23:38Who among us? So this episode here apparently was originally called the Kent
- 23:42State Massacre, but unfortunately the Virginia Tech Massacre happened about a month before it
- 23:47went to and the change the title on probably a good thing, even yeah,
- 23:52don't do it. Yeah, that worked precisely once, and that was
- 23:56for Texas shainswaw Here Massacre. And you immediately just think of things that aren't
- 24:00pleasant, you know, that is true, Yes, see, whether it
- 24:03be a horror movie or just horrific things happening in real life. So you
- 24:07just avoid the word massacre when it comes to comedy. By the time we
- 24:08got into that, I was talking about my favorite parts of the episode.
- 24:11I think I've wrapped it up. Yeah, there'll probably be more as we
- 24:15go through the episode. But Dan, what did you enjoy aout. I'm
- 24:18already covid mine. I'm just okay, yeah, not all that bothered.
- 24:21Well should we maybe then? One more note here? I want to talk
- 24:25about the episode. So the episode was intentionally spoofed the increased fines by the
- 24:29FCC in the wake of the Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction. Oh of cool.
- 24:33I can still remember when that happened, and it was huge. It's like,
- 24:37how dare she show her nipple on television? And you look back now
- 24:40and you go, really, we got an uproar over this. She knows,
- 24:45she didn't know. It's like you had a nipple ring on. It
- 24:47was pretty obvious. You knew it was gonna happen. I don't think anything
- 24:49like that would happen without it. JT was like, could rip her fucking
- 24:52shirt off? That is not gonna happen. No, it's not gonna happen.
- 24:56In the close up on the boob as it's happening. It was all
- 24:57perfectly timed. There's a word we all need to remember in these situations.
- 25:02Okay, fape, Yes, keep the dream alive. Still real to me.
- 25:07But however, a month before the episode aired, don Imus, I
- 25:10want to say, I was suspended and subsequently fired for remarks he made on
- 25:14the air about the Rutgers University women's basketball team through events closely paralleling the events
- 25:18of this episode. Yes, he Don was a bit of a Howard stern
- 25:23ish kind of I think he predated Howard Stern and took it too far.
- 25:27Took it a bit too far. Consider himself a bit of a free speech
- 25:32warrior. It's like you can't say anything these days, like, well,
- 25:34you certainly can't say what you were saying, what without sort of? I
- 25:38think it just sexist. I think it was pretty sexist and maybe pretty racist
- 25:41as well. Jeep. Yeah, okay, not a good combination. No
- 25:45no, no, hopefully never together again. Too great tastes that don't taste
- 25:48great, and they're not great taste, horrible taste. It tastes even worse
- 25:52together too great taste, Okay when they're by themselves. Guys didn't even real
- 26:03racism. Sex isn't together. Oh dear, How appropriate that a guy would
- 26:17get canceled on an episode talking about the early movion and you can't always see
- 26:21what you want, guy. I just want to recap, because yeah,
- 26:27Fox was definitely aware of this. Kind of thing because I believe they got
- 26:32so many letters due to married with children as well. There's like twenty years
- 26:36earlier though, really marrible children. Maybe child launch in the eighties, okay,
- 26:41two thousand and seven. Well Fox has got long memories, but I'm
- 26:45pretty sure that well Fox was also twenty years prior to this episode totally moody.
- 26:49Yeah, okay, but Fox tended to pride itself though on being a
- 26:53little racing and risk game. Yeah, something ribaled Now that's what they base
- 27:00their whole network around. But the thing is, it's like, yeah,
- 27:03as they point out, they're so right with their news we yet they're putting
- 27:07sexy shit. It's like, what's going on here? It doesn't really make
- 27:10sense. But your mom's big fox in hiss fan right, Well the Australian
- 27:14bod oh Margaret Mary shout out. They're speaking her language an increasingly mind.
- 27:33All right, let's get into some shouts of our beloved Stonecutters. What do

- 27:47So basically he's like, oh, I know someone on the internal team live
- 27:49it with me. Twelve hours later, it's back. I was like,
- 27:53cool, thank you, Dando, and to a much much much much much
- 27:59much much less to extent me we're jumping through hoops. When I say much
- 28:03much lesser extent, I wasn't do anything, just like I didn't really cry,
- 28:07but I was just so overwhelmed with emotion. When I just saw that
- 28:08email going it's back, making continue, I was like, but it's so
- 28:12God, it's so it speaks volumes about the current state of play that you're

- 28:41just thank God. I said to Nicola. Isn't it crazy how you just
- 28:45make friends throughout the years and something goes wrong that just one friend just happens

- 30:45question? You there eating the beast? All right. My first question for
- 30:48you, mister Davis, is let me get at my notes once again.
- 30:53Okay, I've just moved that notepad into a separate window. Fantastic, Here
- 30:57we go. It's in Flander's nice pile. One of them is a test
- 31:03pattern non Indian. Yep. I can't remember the other thing. I'm seven
- 31:07hundred club seven artcod that's right, yes, all right, what's your first
- 31:10one? Homer has been a member of the American Apple Source Association since when.
- 31:14Oh, I'm gonna say eighty seven, nineteen seventy eight, seventy eight.
- 31:18We've got the seven in the eight, right, yeah, the right
- 31:21way around. It's a little bit dyslexic, it's all right, yes,
- 31:22a little bit. I don't you've joined the name of the movie for me.
- 31:26So that was that was my next question. I'll try and find another
- 31:27one for you here. Uh who? In the final photo was Kent Brockman
- 31:33interviewing, and he's looking at the photos of his career on the wall.
- 31:37Oh, damn to be a pretty super nerd to get this. It's not
- 31:41R two D two, it's R four D four. It's the one with
- 31:45a bad motivator. Yeah, is it is that the one that Uncle I
- 31:51was gonna buy one? It shits the bed and it pops its top.
- 31:53Just that droid didn't shit the bed, we'd never get Star Wars. I
- 31:56know, Ungle Owan, the R two Union has a bad motivator. No
- 32:05one got attached against the Palagambu, the Empire's whole you know, defense road
- 32:12on that Devoi, on that droid, on that shitty made droid. Yes,
- 32:16it just manages to get to Uncle Owen. No, the Skywalker Empire
- 32:20wins. I that R two un and I have a lot in common in
- 32:25that I also have a bad motivator. So that's R five D four R
- 32:30five de four. Yes, apparently it says on the Wook on the wookie
- 32:32Pedia. R four d four though is on the or R two d or
- 32:38R two dt. I don't know. It says R four d four.
- 32:43Was that like the ah, Maybe that's not the Simpsons version of R two
- 32:45D two because because R four D four on the Wikipedia page for this is
- 32:50hyperlinked but it takes you to R two D two's the sim the Star Wars
- 32:55parody, and it's fucking terrible. The one the one jar was initially sell
- 33:00Uncle Owen. It's not rounded, it's not a little pointy. It's R
- 33:05five d's it's more square. It's R five D four apparently because actually has
- 33:09been in Simpson four. It's the gay Roberts and Star Wars. What were
- 33:14that met to? The moblu Skywalker episode used the fox Oh yeah, yeah,
- 33:20yeah, so it's our f DFA apparently in the Wikipedia page, but
- 33:22I don't know. Apparently it doesn't exist. Who knows a lot of the
- 33:25glory days of Star Wars action because they actually had like that, Yeah that
- 33:30Dray the Bad Unit. Yeah as an action figure. Well what a nicon
- 33:34though, Oh yeah, I would rather have that than I do D two.
- 33:37I had a lot of action figures of various figures from the Canteen.
- 33:40I had Greedo, but I also had the little werewolf guy in the red
- 33:45wet suit, the big I would wanted the the one with that have ahead.
- 33:50I had the Hammerhead. Yeah, yeah, I don't think I had
- 33:52any of the musicians. I love it In E. T. When Spielberg
- 33:54just had as as a call to to Lucas because our friends. He goes
- 33:59here, Henry Thomas as Elliott, he's a bunch of Star Wars toys.
- 34:01Just talk to this et toy. And I just think it's just felt so
- 34:06real that scene that you reckon it did. I've got to rewatch et.
- 34:07It's been a long time, man, it's fucking great. Good movie.
- 34:10Yeah, very very good. Another question from you, and we'll get into
- 34:13the review. When Homer boards the airline shuttle, which airline does he say
- 34:17or go to the start with B? No? American something? Yes?
- 34:23American B? What is it? America north? South, Eastern? What?
- 34:28American West? Yes? Okay, is it a real thing? Must
- 34:31be? I don't know who knows anyway, I don't tell you what I
- 34:34do know when this episode originally aired. Oh, I could give you one
- 34:37more question. I'll do it please. I beg you Newshounds Awards. How
- 34:40many Emmys did he win? And how many nominations did he get? I
- 34:45also shame on me for for one of those, right, No, shame
- 34:50on me for assuming those Newshands agenda. It could be they then how many
- 34:55Emmys? The idea seven seven, how many nominations eleven, fifteen, fifteen,
- 35:00There we Go. So original air date of You Can't Always Say What
- 35:05You Want was May twentieth, two thousand and seven, the final episode to
- 35:07air before the Simpsons movie came out. Okay in I want to Say July
- 35:12of two thousand and seven, I Believe our production coach jab F one five,
- 35:15written by Tim Lung and directed by Matthew Nastuck guestar and Ludicrous and Maurice
- 35:21la Marsh as the Fox narrator. He's back, He's back, baby.
- 35:23He's in a lot of Simpsons episodes these days, isn't he what they go
- 35:27to? Good on him? Everyone leads a side hustle they do indeed,
- 35:30Yeah, I think does he need a side hustle? Is Maurice Lamash?
- 35:34I feel like voice actors though, don't really have side hustles. It's just
- 35:37their voices just in everything. They have cameos, they disappear on everything.
- 35:39Yeah. But the episode kicks off with the tribute. I say tribute when
- 35:45it's just them playing family portrait. The episode from the Tracy Elma showed in
- 35:49eighty seven Yeah, twenty years later, celebrating the fact that this is the
- 35:52four nth episode, and it's twenty years ago. It's weird. There's one
- 35:54line where he goes, watch your mouth's little smart ass, and I was
- 35:57like, it's not a bad word, but it just felt feel odd coming
- 36:00out of his mouth. Yeah, it's just sort of oh okay, but
- 36:05so very nostalgic. I mean, kids, do you even know what that
- 36:07means when someone says this is the last picture on the roll? Yeah?
- 36:10True, not anymore. They were, those were the days. I mean
- 36:15we look back now, look back fondly but terrible. Imagine much, Imagine
- 36:19how many memories we missed because we didn't take the right fucking photo. But
- 36:22I guess they added to the charm with the actual photo you got, didn't
- 36:24it? That is correct? And also you know you've got your brain for
- 36:28memories? Yeah, do we need them? Not really, not anymore,
- 36:31free of all that ram for something else, yes, but Spinster City apartments
- 36:36And for some reason, Maggie and Marge are playing against Patty and somewhere in
- 36:38the game of pictionary, and they're doing very very well because they share their
- 36:42special bond. And then Maggie notices the time reminds Marge that she has to
- 36:45get Bartonley's to the dentist an appointment at three, and I thought, that's
- 36:49a weird time to book a dentist appointment when school finishes. I thought,
- 36:52at three anyway, Paddy and somewhere then win by four foot. The sweetest
- 36:57win there is there is yes, and the car unfortunately won't stay. So
- 37:00then we get your favorite moment, Yes, the extended mix raising Arizona shout
- 37:07out, Yeah, that's about it. I did some freeze framing here.
- 37:15So she knocks over comic book guy on her way to the to the to
- 37:19her house, and he's got Zebra Girl, zoid Zilla, and zillionaire comics
- 37:23in his books. You have to it's really fast. I free framed a
- 37:25lot two or three times just to make sure I got it. She grabs
- 37:29some sugar from like as in the squishy from the cookie mark for some sustenance,
- 37:34then knocks over snake and then accidentally swaps Maggie for the gun. Has
- 37:37that happened in the movie? Stopping over? What is it? He's stealing
- 37:42something, isn't he? I read that cagees grab something, he's running off
- 37:45with it, or something is stolen a pillow? Something Now it's a bag
- 37:50of nappies or a bag of nappies, that's the one. Yes, Nappy's
- 37:52wife his kid open. Nicolas Cage and Holly Hannah can not have children.
- 37:57Yes, they're still a kid. There was a local millionaire whose wife has
- 38:02just given birth to five children. Only Hander who's actually a cops. Yes,
- 38:07they got more than a handle, so they kidnapped one and makes so
- 38:13are they antiheroes? No? No, it's actually kind of sweet in a
- 38:17way. How is it sweet? You have to watch the movie. Okay,
- 38:22I'm going to watch this movie now. I didn't realize Cage was doing
- 38:24films in the eighties. I'm not gonna lie. I thought he broke out
- 38:27in the nineties. Oh no, I had no fucking idea. No,
- 38:30okay, it's been around since the early eighties. So do you want to
- 38:32watch for the first time? This week's speaking Nicholas Cage Gone on sixty Seconds.
- 38:37Oh yeah, I was just went we went in nineties. Actually,
- 38:40I know it's two thousand and that film, but my dad loved Nicholas Cage
- 38:44growing up. And there's the three films that I've never seen, Gone sixty
- 38:46Seconds, eight Millimeter and Snake Eyes I've seen them. So have you watched
- 38:51all of those? Now? No, I've only watched one sixty seconds.
- 38:52I've got eight millimeters and Snake Eyes to go. Which one should to go
- 38:54next? Do you think, uh maybe Snake Eyes Millimeter is yeah a bit
- 39:01grimy, isn't. Is it a snuff films? Yes? Yeah, okay,
- 39:05I've heard about that one. Yeah, So say, guys, I
- 39:07was assuming it's about gambling, more of a conspiracy thrill thriller cool, I'm
- 39:10looking for. Nicholas Cage was so good in those films everything. He's the
- 39:16perfect case of just crazy but not too crazy. I'm sure. Now I've
- 39:20watched Nicholas case Show in a long time. But back in those days,
- 39:23oh yeah, that's he was like the peak of action flicks for a while.
- 39:28There wasn't he absolutely, and that was really sort of unusual as well.
- 39:31I mean it was like a I mean, he was ripped, but
- 39:34he wasn't like a Swartzenegger. He was always in really good shape, which
- 39:38came across as kind of interesting. I mean, there were he's there are
- 39:42a few movies he did in yeah, in the mid eighties where he had
- 39:45his shirt. It was like wow, Okay, he's actually in shape.
- 39:47But it wasn't until Rock conn Air face off in the in the Midwater Trifector
- 39:54in the mid nineties because before then he was a bit of an everyman.
- 40:00Now he's trying his hand. He was basically known as as a dramatic actor.
- 40:02He won the Oscar just maybe a year or so beforehand for the leading
- 40:06Las Vegas. But he's done romantic comedies and all manner of stuff. Yeah,
- 40:10and The Family Man, well that was later. Yes, Connais to
- 40:15me is still one of my favorite just popcorn action flicks. That's one I've
- 40:19got to rewatch as well. I haven't watched that in a very long time.
- 40:20It's just so absurd. But like so many characters in that, Cyrus
- 40:23the virus that's a matrix nous, isn't. Yeah, there's Cyrus who is
- 40:29kind of virus in the matrix Malcovich. What a fucking villain. Yeah,
- 40:36But I mean just an incredible cast. Yeah, you know Bing Raims.
- 40:40Yeah, bow ship on my window again, isn't it? Of course?
- 40:45Yeah, I'm gonna do it. We'm gon watch the movie tonight. I
- 40:47don't can do it. Yes, But things that aren't as interesting as Connie,
- 40:52We've got this episode to get through. But so she eventually gets home,
- 40:53nearly gets run over by mold man in a truck. She steps on
- 40:57the heads of the quimby women in the pool. She goes down a manhole
- 41:00as rats as gators, as Barney goes through a Chinese New Year prayed,
- 41:04I guess. Then the Irish there so Patrick's day couldn't work it out,
- 41:07go through a dog park, Helen love Joy gets the one thing, fucking
- 41:10is she ever going to get there? What the is going on here?
- 41:14I can stretch it out? This is the Dictionary definition of padding. You
- 41:19think though, with a story that's so based so much on satire, that
- 41:22they would have loved to have stretched that out. But it's I don't know
- 41:25how they couldn't, Like, there's so much you could have delved into there,
- 41:29but that I guess they just didn't want to. It's weird. Maybe
- 41:31they got the word from the movie is nearly out, let's just get on
- 41:36with it, or they got the word from the legal department at Fox.
- 41:38You can say this, but you can't say that. I'd always say what
- 41:42you want. It's sitting in the right Oh, the irony they arrive home,
- 41:49and then she says he's gonna be taken to the dentist. Homer thinks
- 41:51are gonna be taking dirt back riser in the cemetery. He's also feltful the
- 41:53trick went out at the dentist. And I'll assign here, no matter how
- 41:58much you brush, you're doing it wrong. They alway tell you're doing it
- 42:00wrong. Every days I've been to they tell me a different way. You
- 42:02got to brush, this way. You've got to floss. Some say floss,
- 42:05some say don't. I just I don't get it. Have you had
- 42:07a DNA say don't flast? Had not not what I'm using seeing now.
- 42:10The last one used to go, don't floss, it's not good for your
- 42:13gums. Never do it. And the one I'm going to now is like,
- 42:15if you don't floss, you're an idiot. I get the feeling.
- 42:17Flossing incorrectly is probably bad for your gun. Probably, Yeah, doing anything
- 42:21correctly is probably not good for you. Right, that's a very good point.
- 42:25But Homer is not flossing, and his guns hurt us from the breeze
- 42:29touching him, and the kids hear this and get scared. Blah blah,
- 42:31blah, basicly joke there. Then they showed Lisa the video on oral hygiene
- 42:37menace tooth society. Damn baby bit got bacteria? You want to take it
- 42:43to these Why is he? I'm down with old pp I'm going period,
- 42:46donal problems, break it down. Ludacrist arrives to save the day. Lisa
- 42:52says, this movie has mixed messages. That's ludicrous. No, I just
- 42:57thought the cameo outside of the film was really odd, like he's annoyed it.
- 43:01They're showing the film outside of the one time that he about it too,
- 43:04and just I don't know, just one a little bit too far,
- 43:08like just leave it in the film a bit. I guess I just wanted
- 43:12to say the film, I'd say the gag that's ludicrous, That's what they
- 43:15really wanted to do. But anyway, Bart has then given a new toothbrush.
- 43:20He says, you expected to do your job at home for you for
- 43:22free. Then he overhears Skinner he's been put under the happy gas and this
- 43:25wasn't funny, this was just evil. Yeah, there's nothing funny to this
- 43:30legitimate torture. Yeah, I mean, I don't like anything to do with
- 43:35dentistry. Barb being a little pranksters one thing, but this is just for
- 43:37no reason. This felt like, you know, that's scene in Marathon Man
- 43:40where the evil Nazi dentist is trying to get information using evil dentistry and not
- 43:45good at all home and then suggests we get some ice cream. Marge then
- 43:49pretends to be okay. I thought, this is one of those moments again
- 43:52where you're just acknowledging Marge isn't happy anymore, but she's just going along with
- 43:57it because she feels like she has to. I'm like, then, don't
- 43:59point this out. Well, she has gone to all this effort to wrangle
- 44:02everyone to the dentist and all this all this stuff, and then as soon
- 44:07as they're out of the dentist's office, well, let's go do the opposite,
- 44:10or let's go do something little undo all this good work. So I
- 44:15can sort of understand where she's coming from, and just just reffirm for me
- 44:20what a waste of time this first fucking six seven minutes was. But they
- 44:23get their hostes on a health Kike and then adds all these extra chocolates and
- 44:27whatnot on his ice cream purchased a millionth cone decides what's a cup and then
- 44:30it goes back to a cone. You're missing one of my favorite lines.
- 44:32What is that? What is a fun day? It's a sad day.
- 44:37It's fun. Yes, I thought you might like that. But because he's
- 44:40bought the millionth cone, he's now on smart line and rather than talk about
- 44:45the Middle East, they're going to be talking about Homer's fateful treat as he
- 44:49puts it, and then accidentally knocks the coffee onto Brockman and whenever he would
- 44:52be actually said, I'm assuming it's the sea bomb when you think hmm,
- 44:58it seemed like it went for a while. I'm wondering if he said it
- 45:02has twelve letters and starts with M and it's a favorite of Samuel L.
- 45:06Jackson's. Yes it is. It's a favorite of many people. Can we
- 45:09say that one? Do you reckon? I mean, we tend to blur
- 45:12out the sea word, don't we We play the sea word. But you
- 45:14can say that m F word. We can say motherfucker. We say fuck
- 45:16all the time? What we say fuck all the time? I think say
- 45:20mother in front of it just makes his hand cool. Probably want to get
- 45:24down how the kids saying fuck? These days to remember the first time I
- 45:30heard, and it was probably when I first heard like Eddie Murphy's stand up.
- 45:32This was in the early eighties and I was still a kid, but
- 45:35I remember I was out. I was just like walking up at the footy
- 45:39oval at the end of the street or something, and some bigger kids rode
- 45:43past on bikes and I'm pretty sure one of them, hey, motherfucker,
- 45:45And I was like, scandal. Ali asked me the other day. He
- 45:53goes, it's bloody, a swear word, and I thought, thought,
- 45:57it's not a swear word, but you really shouldn't say it's not a good
- 45:59word. And Washington what he bloody? And he goes, stop swearing that.
- 46:02I was like, I'm not swearing. I get what you're saying.
- 46:06You shouldn't say it. I shouldn't say it either, Okay, But Hobby's
- 46:08now started saying shit in context. So she fell over here, Sa and
- 46:14she goes, shit, Jesus Christ. I'm clearly swearing way too much.
- 46:21But that's what happens when you work in a factory for a decade. You
- 46:22just That's also what happens when you spend any time in the world any By
- 46:28the fuck why but yeah, so Brockman has sworn on TV and everyone's shocked
- 46:36by it. Well, well, actually when he leaves, so he makes
- 46:38the apology and says he's going to make a donation to a charity about kids
- 46:43swearing or something along those lines. Yeah, and then he goes out to
- 46:45the street and realize that nobody actually watched it because, as coming Guy puts
- 46:47it, nobody watches it on TV anymore. It's on the internet. Farewell,
- 46:52danis sur yes, so he thinks his career is safe, but then
- 46:54tells him to get on an airport bus and leave me alone. Grandpa was
- 46:59annoyed though, because he was watching the TV because he's an old dinosaur.
- 47:00Oh, that reminds me that you keep talking because there's something I wanted to
- 47:04look up so well to kill time another moment he of killing time. I
- 47:08can't believe Kent Bluckman got away with it. Back in my day, TV
- 47:13stars couldn't say Booby, Tushy Burp, Fanny Burp, water closet, under
- 47:17pinch, dingle dangle, Boston marriage, LBJ, Titty kaka hot Dog,
- 47:23or front lumps funny burb. That is a whole new meaning in Australia that
- 47:29one probably means in America. What I was curious about was actually what constews
- 47:32construes a Boston marriage. Yes, it is actually a According to Boston dot
- 47:39Gov, the term Boston marriage refers to a non traditional domestic relationship between two
- 47:45middle or upper class women. So basically it's a gay marriage. It lesbian.
- 47:49Last yarme as, I can understand why they didn't want you to say
- 47:52on TV. Grandpa was growing up whatever, didn't realize that Boston was such
- 47:54a hotbed of lady love. Boston. Yes, it is there, we
- 47:59go through it, reputation for it. Tell us about it, Mark Boston
- 48:01Burgess. So we have the family here all staring at Grandpa when he says
- 48:06it, and I'm thinking, yeah, I understand that you're you're dragging time
- 48:09out here, but can you just not acknowledge it. It's just it's almost
- 48:13like they was saying to the audience, Yeah, we don't know why we
- 48:15did that either. It was just such filler, Like it wasn't funny.
- 48:17None of these words are really all that funny, really front lumps Maybe No,
- 48:22I don't know. Lisa says, the watchdogs will get him, don't
- 48:24you worry, but says these kind of people don't exist. It almost felt
- 48:29a bit like old men with a gripe this episode, like complaining about,
- 48:35Oh, they're trying to sensor what we're doing. How dare you viewers?
- 48:37You guys have no lives. It's I just come across a bit, a
- 48:40bit of a winge, a little first world problem. Yeah, someway,
- 48:45you wouldn't let me tell me saucy joke. Yeah, because the Flanders and
- 48:50he's got his naughty and nice pile. Obviously the naughty pile is much bigger,
- 48:53certainly is. Yeah, Morley's safe as wearing questionable, questionable pant,
- 48:57crestable plate, your questionable faulting his pants. Yeah, that's right. Yes,
- 49:00And then he says that realizes that Kent Brockman I said that his least
- 49:05favorite word on the public airwaves. And then it got a line here,
- 49:08I'm imploring people I never met to pressure a government with better things to do
- 49:10to punish a man who meant no harm for something nobody ever saw. And
- 49:14I was like, I know that's the joke here, but Flanners would never
- 49:17say this. No one would ever say this. This doesn't work for me.
- 49:22It feels less religiously motivated than it does politically motivated. And one thing
- 49:31we know about Neddy always goes from a position of righteousness, of religious righteousness.
- 49:37Now, I know the two often go hand in hand, or seem
- 49:43to at least, but Yeah, it didn't really feel right coming out of
- 49:45Ned's mouth, and it felt weird having the kids. So I think you
- 49:47need a new mummy. It's weird. Now we've got the new support here,
- 49:53and apparently Brockman hasn't been given the heads up that he's been fired or
- 49:58he's been demoted, because the SEC have the report about him. He's been
- 50:01denoted to weekend weatherman. Then he goes and starts doing the weather. Arnie
- 50:05Pie starts making fun of him, rights that he stinks, and then any
- 50:08Pie takes over the news and announces it, having a different tone of voice
- 50:12when he's reading the Yeah. Now, so it got a ten million dollar
- 50:14fine coming their way as a result of the swearing. Unfortunately, now their
- 50:17dog will not be able to afford the surgery. It's a lazy eye fixed.
- 50:21Yeah. Krust is also making some cutbacks, and we've got the voice
- 50:22actors here. So I was going to do some research, and I forgot.
- 50:25I wonder whether this is when the Simpsons voice actors were complaining that they
- 50:29were getting paid enough wow, and rather than it was like they're sort of
- 50:32Jabbett saying, rather than pay you more, would just replace you? And
- 50:37you really when he can plays voice actors, but you really should. No,
- 50:40not unless it's absolutely necessary. Yeah, for reasons that Yeah, it
- 50:45makes sense, but especially he signed to he's doing itching scratchy voices. He
- 50:49doesn't do a very good job, can't Can we talk? Not fire?
- 50:52Am I? No? No? The station stands by its reporters, say,
- 50:57what's that powder in your coffee? Is it? No, it's splendor,
- 51:00Spare me your slang, push your man, you're fired. Well,
- 51:05I mean he didn't break the two pivotal rules. He didn't whip it out.
- 51:07That's true. Well, that's yeah, don't wear and don't whip it
- 51:10out, which we try to abye by these one of these rules here on
- 51:14four thing discount. Yeah, which one do you break? Well, there's
- 51:16a reason only seen me from this level up. Well, there's only lens
- 51:22wide enough down there, right, he's talking about my stone, talking about
- 51:29the stomach. Lindsay Nagel. Then fire fires him for the cocaine. He
- 51:34takes all these photos off the wall, and then he gets to walk of
- 51:37shame. Everyone's angry at him. It starts raining, his box gets wet,
- 51:39and Nelson says, your distinguished career is over. And I thought there's
- 51:43not really long to go in his episode, and I feel like there's not
- 51:45gonna wrap this up. Yeah, this feels like it should have been the
- 51:49end of the first actor. You should have the end of the first act
- 51:51should have been Brockman losing his job, right, and the remaining the next
- 51:54act should have been him changing his ways. And at the very end,
- 51:59boom, he goes back hat and that should have been the end. Well,
- 52:02it didn't happen. It did not know. Marge says that, so
- 52:06I think it's Homer says he's catched slumpy, and it turns out it's because
- 52:09he's sitting okay, Brocklyn Marges offered him to stay there because she thinks he
- 52:13could be potentially suicidal. And then we get home. This is so on
- 52:16Homer. Liberal media. I think Haveven doesn't know what liberal media is use
- 52:22him for it unless he's been brainwashed by one of the few things that he
- 52:28reads or sees on TV. Yeah, I mean, we know that Homer
- 52:30is easily led, but he couldn't he liberal media. That's not what will
- 52:35be talking about. If you're going to make him a puppet for the right
- 52:40wing misinformation or misinformation. Yeah, it's laid the ground work a little more.
- 52:45I thought Brockmann would have been right wing. I think the fun thing
- 52:49to do with Brockman have him not believe in anything. Yeah, that's probably
- 52:52a better way to be a Mexican. The mouthpiece the Mexican gays have been
- 52:54sneaking to the country and unplugging the brains about our brain dead ladies. He's
- 53:00but he wants an eight y ten from Ken Brockman to put on the wall
- 53:04of casual acquaintances who have come to stay for a while, Ardie Pooh,
- 53:07Krusty, Willie Nelson, Bob Otto, Kang. I want to say which
- 53:09I think it's probably the Kingcutors who have slept with Marge that time to have
- 53:13baby ideas, Gil and Stampy and who sang a song? What are you
- 53:17going to do? Then? Then watching TV and we get the show that
- 53:21you would watch what was it? Strip? Lanny strip? Yeah, fifteen
- 53:22strippers on an airline, and then we get the Fox News liberal outrage,
- 53:29and there's what Lisa points out, how can a Newspepe conservative and have such
- 53:31racy shows? Then he put Fox deliberately run shows that will earn huge fins,
- 53:36funneled funneled through the secge but republican. I'm just like, oh,
- 53:39it's very It's just so obvious, isn't it that there's no sort of there's
- 53:44no clever lines here. It's just here's our thoughts and they're just saying it,
- 53:47saying what we're all thinking. It's a lazy way of getting your point
- 53:52across. Absolutely, it really is. This was probably one of the weakest
- 53:54sad eyes the Simpsons have done in a while. But maybe I don't know,
- 53:58Maybe it's just me like, do you think I don't think there's It
- 54:00wasn't very clever. I think the ideas they were exploring were interesting and certainly
- 54:04for the time, but how they went about it was very much what's the
- 54:07thing is it? Swartzwelder who says, when I do a first draft,
- 54:10I just say, Homer says a joke here, yeah, And I get
- 54:15everything down on paper. I get the basic structure down and then you know,
- 54:19then I get to rewrite, which is the fun part. Yeah,
- 54:21it's like, well they didn't the rewrights, they didn't do it. It's
- 54:23all very first draft. But then Lisa and said, I've got a cameras,
- 54:27go film, you know, a video. It's kind of like they
- 54:30could have been pushing. This is like he could become a viral sensation online
- 54:31because he was a dinosaur on TV. He could become an online sensation.
- 54:36Well this is what we thought the internet would be when it first. Absolutely.
- 54:38Yeah, So Brockman's video about the government news worked together. Good evening,
- 54:43Thank you for inviting me into your laps. Friends. That press and
- 54:46the government are in bed together in an embrace so intimate and wrong they could
- 54:51spown on a twin mattress and still have room for ted couple journalists. You
- 54:54still question the reasons for war and expose abuse of power. Now toothless babies.
- 55:00They suckle on the sugary teat of misinformation and poop it into the diaper
- 55:05we call the six o'clock news. Demand more of your government, demand more
- 55:08of your press. Play meet. This is a wake up call. Vote
- 55:16out your so called representatives, reject your corporate masters, buy nothing, hug
- 55:22your children, love the one you're with. He's getting fans with the with
- 55:27the young people. They like his video. Meanwhile, though the Republican Party
- 55:30are not fans at all, and apparently Crustian Ziaga a thing. Yeah.
- 55:36Well, according to Raini A Wolcastle, yeah, Dracula can't order pieces op
- 55:39enough. That's all gone to and it's just yeah, there wasn't much this
- 55:43episode never gonna lie. So then yeah, the people give Brockets some credit.
- 55:45So he gave him five stars, and they never give anybody five stars?
- 55:49Would they millennials? Do you think? I mean no, because they're
- 55:51that's what I thought they would have been. But it's hard because this is
- 55:53two thousand and seven. Yeah, I guess, yeah, very early millennials,
- 55:58because they're not They don't only feel like generation next, do they?
- 56:00They don't know? You're right, but this is where you know, how
- 56:04wide is the web? How is it? How wide is the web?
- 56:07World? Is what she says. Yeah, yeah, yeah, how wide
- 56:08is the web? This is literally So Brockman becomes a success and is starting
- 56:14to earn the acclaim of people around him, and within like thirty seconds he's
- 56:17gone back it's like, what was what a waste of time? He's starting
- 56:21to gain respect and credibility as a as a newsman. Well, I reckon
- 56:23less than a minute of the episode. And then it's just here's more money,
- 56:27fifercent pay increase a least it close your eyes, and he's off thinking
- 56:30these are all ideas that could have been stretched out of it. Yeah,
- 56:32we didn't need as we didn't need the dentist bit, not for as long
- 56:37as we had it. So you definitely cut out the whole bad thing.
- 56:39Yeah, Lisa is sad now because there's no room for truth and bravery in
- 56:45today's media. And then Homer has some gossip. His hands are shaking and
- 56:50as he's saying what it is, they've obviously put over the obviously put over
- 56:52the top. Fox has been programming shows that the whole family can enjoy.
- 56:57Yeah, they mentioned various shows. Lisa has been dubbed as well. And
- 57:00then the truth is and it's the end credits, and that's the end of
- 57:01the episode. I will say this was actually one of my favorite moments of
- 57:05very good use of the gracie. Hyeah. Yeah, so the ending worked,
- 57:08right. I just thought more time than to be dedicated to the actual
- 57:12story than the setup. Do you think I would agree with you on that
- 57:15point. Yes, I think this would have hit home more that him going
- 57:17back would have been more of a point had he'd been built up this all
- 57:23his acclaim and all this love from doing the right thing and at the drop
- 57:27of had more money. Yes, please, that would have meant more.
- 57:30But what are you gonna do. It's the end of the season. You
- 57:31had a movie to put out, Yes, exactly right. What do we
- 57:36learn bomber mister Davis? What did you learn from the episode that a fun
- 57:39day is a Sunday that's fun? Are they always fun? Though? What's
- 57:43your favorite kind of Sunday? Chocolate, strawberry? You'd be a strawberry I
- 57:45reckon. I have been, on occasion a strawberry guy. Yeah. I
- 57:47mean back when I used to frequent McDonald's and every once in a while that
- 57:52was saying it's going to take eight minutes to cook you on apple pie.
- 57:54Would you like a mcflurry or whatever instead or a Sunday? And I'm like,
- 57:59no, I won an apple part. Yeah, that's why I ordered
- 58:02it. By the way, eight dollar tenders for eight eight tens, eight
- 58:05dollars. Okay, see at the moment, what a deal? What are
- 58:10savings? So when they were would you like a Sunday instead, I'm like,
- 58:16fine, I'll take it. Yeah, what sort strawberry? Be fine?
- 58:20They never mix it anymore, apparently the mcflurries. Really yeah, they
- 58:22still have it like this, mix it all through and now it's just like
- 58:27a soft serve shit chut on toil. Everyone's in a hurry hurry from it's
- 58:30a make hurry rather than mcflurry. I let it takes fifteenth strippers to fly
- 58:35plane fourteen to get it up. I want to get it down. From
- 58:42this day forward, your names will be all right. It is the final
- 58:45edition of the New Name Championship for season eight. Who is going to win?
- 58:50I have no idea, no earthly idea. The winner is phili J.
- 58:53Hawkins twenty points. He can't possibly lose now because Kyle Muld doing clever
- 58:59Kyle is in second position on sixteen points. Actually no, no, no,
- 59:01no, no, no, I've I've missed it. Here here we
- 59:05go. I apologize. Philip J. Hawkins is on twenty eight points.
- 59:08Carle while doing the seconds on seventeen points. He really you can't win this
- 59:15and Luke McKay's in third position on sixteen points. Hit me, mister Davis,
- 59:17what have we got this week? Okay? Then one point goes to
- 59:22don't brock the boat right the book baby, that's David Mott while done that
- 59:25ends his season on six points on not bad okay, two points It goes
- 59:30to brock bottom Adam Moorehouse again with the two points. Well on Adam and
- 59:35Adam ends this season on nine points their fifth position. I believe fantastic.
- 59:40Three points goes too. You can't handle the truth. You gotta say it
- 59:45the right way. Though you can't handle the truth, say the right way
- 59:51weren't the right way? That's Clever Carle So he ends the season on twenty
- 59:58points, so outright second. So Philip J. Horgan's twenty eight points our
- 1:00:01winner once again, I think? Is that back to back? Is it
- 1:00:05the three pa? Maybe a three p' again? Who knows? You wins
- 1:00:07it every year? Clever Kyle in second position on twenty points and Luke McKay
- 1:00:13in third position on sixteen points. Congratulations to every one of those people,
- 1:00:17especially Phillip J. I. Thank you everyone who is entering, everyone who's
- 1:00:21entered yeah, we really appreciate it. We as you know, it's done
- 1:00:24blind, not looking at names, looking at new names. I gather up
- 1:00:29all the names and I send him to Guy and he just picks him out.
- 1:00:32I say, which one did Philip gen do put an asterisk next to
- 1:00:37it? I think you're really like this one. But yeah, So next
- 1:00:43week we'll be doing the wild card draw maybe whenever we do another. Are
- 1:00:45we gonna any season wrap up? We usually do, and we'll do the
- 1:00:51wild card draw there as well. So if your name has been read out
- 1:00:53at least once this season, your name will be potentially drawn out next week
- 1:00:57in the wild card draw for a bonus. Probably j Horgan's what again he
- 1:01:01won the world out of the ukins. Do we have any mail bag questions?
- 1:01:10That is? That is the question I did put up the Yeah you
- 1:01:15did. Yeah, I'm looking at it right here. All right, So
- 1:01:17here we go. Let's go to all comments as opposed to top first question.
- 1:01:22Oh it's Ben Lyons or Andrew JP. Be fuman about that one.
- 1:01:25He says, what's the worst person either of you have had to interview?
- 1:01:30There's a band from the UK, I believe called Maybe even in the States,
- 1:01:32called yuck. Right, I'm not sure they're in a band anymore,
- 1:01:36but I really liked them at the time. I like that I was sort
- 1:01:39of comparing early Pixies stuff like, I really really dug them. And I
- 1:01:44got the singer on the line and it was clear he was just drugged out
- 1:01:46of his mind and I'll be asking a question, and I remember I was
- 1:01:51really excited for it too, because I really liked their music and I had
- 1:01:52so many questions lined up just from a genuine fan perspective, and he's just
- 1:01:57going, yeah, I don't know, yeah, yeah. It was this
- 1:02:02for writing over the radio, and I could I can never use I've kept
- 1:02:06the audio, bu can never use it. I was just there there.
- 1:02:08It was literally asked his questions. He go uh huh, and that's it.
- 1:02:14Yeah, boy, I think the most of good Adam was maybe three
- 1:02:15or four words at a time. It was just it was fucking horrific.
- 1:02:19It was the original singer of the band yuck. So you've go into my
- 1:02:22day, sir, for shame. Yeah, So that was that was not
- 1:02:25fun. Worst person you've had to interview. I had a similar situation with
- 1:02:29an actor. I'm not sure if I should name them probably, I probably
- 1:02:31haven't set it was screen star Jamie Kennedy. You've actually mentioned this, but
- 1:02:37I don't think you mentioned his name untill now. On the end. Well,
- 1:02:42he was promoting some project and he was under the influence of something.
- 1:02:45Whether it was a substance or just bad vibes, I could not use it.
- 1:02:52He was as in like he was mean. No, he was incoherent.
- 1:02:54Yeah, yeah, when it came to unpleasant people that have been interviewed,
- 1:02:59and maybe these people were just having a bad day as well. The
- 1:03:01Australian singer songwriter Deborah Conway, she had the song It's Only the Beginning.
- 1:03:08She's been around for quite a while. I interviewed her once and she was
- 1:03:14just mean to me. Really, was she the one to at fourteen?
- 1:03:16Yes? Yeah, he said you want at fourteen once and she was a
- 1:03:19real cow. She was quite mean to me. Hey motherfucker, she wrote,
- 1:03:25Hey, motherfucker. Maybe the saddest was and this is a very deep
- 1:03:32cut Austraian music reference. There was a band in the eighties called Matt Finish
- 1:03:39and they had Matt Finish. Matt Finish. I forgot that the lead singer
- 1:03:45and frontman's name was Matt Something, but the band was called Matt Finish.
- 1:03:49They had an album and the title track of the album was called was a
- 1:03:53song called short Note, which I really loved. It was one of my
- 1:03:55favorite Australian songs in the eighties. And the time came when I go to
- 1:03:59any this guy and he was just prick. He was just in a really
- 1:04:02bad mood and took it out on me, and I'm like, man,
- 1:04:04man, fuck you. Well what you said? No, of course not,
- 1:04:11but I like to think that that was coming through and what I was
- 1:04:13saying. I told the Bob gel Loof story. I've told the Bob Girlof
- 1:04:15story so many times. I'm sure I have told the story. I can't
- 1:04:19remember what happens though. Well, basically, yes, I was interviewing Bob
- 1:04:23Geldoff for one of his solo albums, the solo album which no One gives
- 1:04:28a fuck about. No one gave a fuck, someone absolute gave a fuck
- 1:04:31because we did not get it at the at the office. It either came
- 1:04:35and was taken or it never arrived and is now in the in the before
- 1:04:41times, was like, I can't hear it streaming. No, I needed
- 1:04:45the actual hard copy, didn't get it. Did my research anyway, was
- 1:04:49really diligent about reading everything I could about it, reading other articles, and
- 1:04:56doing a lot of research about his other work and everything like that. So
- 1:04:58I went in with it. I thought it was pretty god sweet queer,
- 1:05:00but also it was a rookie. And I let him know, Bobby,
- 1:05:02you've clearly got a big fan at the fort outs, because look someone you
- 1:05:06told him that. I told him, no, we haven't got haven't a
- 1:05:11chance to listening to him. What the fuck are you doing? Then I
- 1:05:15also rattled that, Yeah, like, as I've said, I'm pretty sure
- 1:05:17I imitated imitated his accent to his face. You did, Oh yeah,
- 1:05:21I wouldn't. I mean not taking the pairs out of It's sort of like,
- 1:05:26oh, it's like the time when you did your sets, only like
- 1:05:28that. I think he probably looked at me like I was just were you
- 1:05:30doing it in person? Oh yeah, Oh, man's even worse. Oh
- 1:05:34no, it's like you look at it like I was like a trailed dog,
- 1:05:38shit in on my shoes or something. Tough times. Tough times for
- 1:05:43a rookie footage of this. Oh god, no, okay, man,
- 1:05:45I wish I was. You've only got my word for it. Would you
- 1:05:47ever be able to watch that again if there was footage? Oh no,
- 1:05:50no, but that didn't listen to it made him aware that you didn't listen
- 1:05:58to his music. Not by your choice obviously, but still you have listened
- 1:06:01to it and then you accident. Yep, yep, this is what happened.
- 1:06:10How did the interview end with getting out there as quickly as possible?
- 1:06:19What did you tell Forte h Q when you got back? I mean,
- 1:06:21I had stuff on the record, so I turned it into a story,
- 1:06:25and I think I probably was very self deprecating about and saying, you know,
- 1:06:30I never meet your heroes kids along those lines. That's great, all
- 1:06:36right. So that is the end of season eighteen. We've done it.
- 1:06:39We made it. No more questions. Oh no, there's more questions.
- 1:06:42Yeah, that was so much fun. It was well go out in the
- 1:06:46high note. JP would be fumtive. Now asked this question, So,
- 1:06:51JP, have you ever sworn in public when you didn't mean to? Oh?
- 1:06:55I always mean to the nice guys. I've seen that one with the
- 1:07:01Ling and Russell. We mentioned it on the podcast. You know, Golden
- 1:07:08is trying to wrangle these all these kids at his teenage daughter's birthday party and
- 1:07:13Jesus Christ, one of the girls you took the lord's name and you know,
- 1:07:16took the lord's name in vain and said wasn't invained at all. I
- 1:07:18meant every word said, but one time I mentioned the podcast where I was
- 1:07:24called Nikola, So don't be a wanker. We're playing cards with their family
- 1:07:27in the UK, and that was a big no no, the first of
- 1:07:29one I met a family in Wayanker not a good word in the UK.
- 1:07:31So I get the feeling I may have dropped the sea bomb speaking to my
- 1:07:35dad once, but saying I said it so quickly that it could easily been
- 1:07:41mistaken for something else. All but Bobby's like a mulligan, like the one
- 1:07:45through. Yeah, that's the whole past. Yes, Sam, Pappas Papas
- 1:07:49Papas. I've seen The Simpsons and a few of the series so many times,
- 1:07:54and I know the gestures and the character's lines before the character does it
- 1:07:57or says it. Is there a TV series that you've seen so that you
- 1:08:00already know the joke punchline? Yeah, I'm like that, I guess with
- 1:08:03I want to say Nickol like the Friends, I'm like that was Seinfeld.
- 1:08:08I guess now I would certainly, maybe not necessarily the entire run of the
- 1:08:13series, but like particular episodes that oh yeah, absolutely yeah. I mean
- 1:08:15we talk about it all the time when we talk about certain episodes of the
- 1:08:18sense, Oh this line is from that, and certainly from South Park as
- 1:08:20well. Yeah, yeah, south Park's a big one, yeah, Tilli
- 1:08:24Enriquez. Out of the various smart line appearances from The Simpsons, what is
- 1:08:27the most annoying and best in your opinion? Were the best one by far
- 1:08:30is when the cat Burglar calls up? Do you know who? This is
- 1:08:39the worst one. We would have to be this one, right according to
- 1:08:42Dan though, absolutely what's the one where he says we'll be right back?
- 1:08:45Is that that one? So he says that at the end of the Trios
- 1:08:50of Horror six, where the attack of the fifty for Iyesaws destroy the house
- 1:08:56and everything kept Brock was doing, lock up your doors whatever, and then
- 1:09:00that's when hom goes, we'll be right back at the that's my life.
- 1:09:01I don't I think this must he must do it twice, because he doesn't
- 1:09:05say at the end there, but I think he might say in the one
- 1:09:09where the Christmas tree gets burned down. Okay, we does say that's my
- 1:09:13line in one of the I just yeah, love Homer journal We'll be right
- 1:09:15bad. But he might do it in that vigil Anti episode as well.
- 1:09:18I don't know, Harrison mcclu A final question here, are there any noteworthy
- 1:09:23reporters or journalists that you admire? There you go, that's one for you.
- 1:09:27Oh gosh, well with me. See, with news reporters, there's
- 1:09:30the familiar faces that just make it feel like it's comforting, you know,
- 1:09:35like Peter Hitchner. Yeah, I've always grown up with Peter Hitcher. He's
- 1:09:39like he's the voice of the news. Yeah. I think there are certain
- 1:09:41people, particularly when you're young, but just have the air of authority.
- 1:09:46I'm sure. I've said in the past that Channel nine used to have a
- 1:09:48guy named Brian Naylor who was the news reader, and they pitched their whole
- 1:09:53campaign that jingle Yeah I know everything I need to know because Brian told me
- 1:09:59so. It's like, oh, yeah, you can trust bright now.
- 1:10:00Wasn't he like that? Men want to be him, want to be with
- 1:10:02him kind of guy? A bit like that. He was one of those
- 1:10:04guys who'd been around forever. So he was probably a good looking roost when
- 1:10:09he was a young man and then just aged into like, oh like he
- 1:10:12can trust he can put shells on the wall. That's correct. Yeah,
- 1:10:15sad, I think he might have died in a Boh that's tragic. Yeah,
- 1:10:17that is set. Just confirm that that is that he's still alive and
- 1:10:23Kingan. I think he died in in a fire. Brian Naylor. Okay,
- 1:10:29here we go, says was so he has passed away. Let's go
- 1:10:34to the old Wikipedia down the bottom. His son Matthew, was killed in
- 1:10:39a plane crash at king Leaf, Victoria in age forty one. Less than
- 1:10:43a year later, in two thousand and nine, our and his wife were
- 1:10:45killed as one of the Black Saturday bushfires destroy their property. Jesus, why
- 1:10:50do you bring that up? Sorry man, Let me talking about other journalists
- 1:10:54that ill him were also dead but rest in peace. Brian Naylor, Oh
- 1:10:58yeah, absolutely no. Pivotal part of my childhood. I think I had
- 1:11:01my political reporters. Well they always seem to have a really like real gravitas.
- 1:11:05Ray Martin was for me when I was a kid. I got my
- 1:11:08can I tell my Ray Martin story. It's not really much of a story,
- 1:11:11that's and the show Let's Go. Ray Martin was always well. He
- 1:11:15also hosted that show a Current Affair that I mentioned earlier, and that's what
- 1:11:19I know him from. Yeah, and it seemed like, oh, you
- 1:11:21were a legit journalist some stage and now you're just a you're doing a Brockman.
- 1:11:27Yeah. I think he was hosting like an afternoon chat show and all
- 1:11:30that kind of thing. Simply a guy that wouldn't funk about though, Like
- 1:11:31he knows his ship and if you try and challenge him, he'll he'll break
- 1:11:35you down, that's the thing. But he had a very kind of nice,
- 1:11:39nice guy to meet. Yeah, I was on a work assignment that
- 1:11:45took me to Ula Root Airs Rock it was and Ray mart was hosting the
- 1:11:49show called This is Your Wife. He probably did that at some stage as
- 1:11:55well. Mike Munroe. This was a show where they took it was for
- 1:11:58SBS and they took a bunch of of white celebrities and sort of semi high
- 1:12:04profile people around Indigenous Australia and sort of showed what was going on Indigenous Australia
- 1:12:10and it started it all a room and Ray was the host and we went
- 1:12:13out before we sort of had the big media there. The next day we
- 1:12:15went out for dinner and he was telling all these stories about when he was
- 1:12:18like a young journal in New York and he was hanging out with the fucking
- 1:12:21Black Panthers, all this really great stuff, and he was just an incredible
- 1:12:28rack on tour. But also, yeah, I'd clearly done a lot of
- 1:12:31stuff and quote unquote seen some shit. I was like, now you're doing
- 1:12:34today tonight. It was a kind of fair. Yeah. Yeah. Part
- 1:12:39of me is like, but I couldn't begrudge the guy getting a paid the
- 1:12:44same time, I was like, oh man, yeah, you're a legit.
- 1:12:46Yeah, I wonder if he'd definitely And he also dropped a few swears,
- 1:12:50and there was like, wow, I can't believe Ray swearing. I
- 1:12:53was gonna say, certainly kind of guy that have like a Christmas tape of
- 1:12:56bl I love those Christmas tapes. We talk about that a bit, but
- 1:13:00I love them. Just one final thing, remember name me Robinson got the
- 1:13:02audio elite of her. Yeah, I remember when I was a kid out
- 1:13:05a massive crush on her. She was so hot, but she was tough
- 1:13:10as nails, as well, yeah, oh, you wouldn't want to messed
- 1:13:13with her. No, not at all anyway, showing news reporters. That
- 1:13:15is our review. By the way, guys, oh, if you can't
- 1:13:17always say what you want. That's the end of season eighteen. We finally
- 1:13:20made it all the way through. So I can't believe we've got through eight
- 1:13:23Well, I've been here eighteen seasons of the show now, A lot of
- 1:13:25strange trip it's been. You know, it's one month away now from the
- 1:13:29nine year anniversary of this show starting, and eighteen seasons have gone through.
- 1:13:31We've done it, guys, Thanks for joining us on this journey. We're
- 1:13:33gonna keep going. We are going to keep going. We've already reviewed the
- 1:13:36Simpsons movie, so not gonna be doing that. But if you do want
- 1:13:39to hear a review of the Simpsons movie, maybe you can be a commentary
- 1:13:41I can't quite remember it comment one of the two. You can find it
- 1:13:44on our Patreon for I think two dollars. It's available two dollars. Yeah,
- 1:13:46well that's a bargain twice the price, exactly right. So if you
- 1:13:49want to hear our thoughts on the Simpsons movie, you can check it out
- 1:13:53on our Patreon support the show and help keep the lights on the next episode,
- 1:13:56what will be the first episode of Simpsons season eighteen. Let's have a
- 1:13:59look Simpsons Sea nineteen. I should say season nineteen kicks off with scroll to
- 1:14:03the bottom here. How many episodes in the seasons of twenty two? There
- 1:14:08is only twenty in this season apparently, Well, this season has that ninety
- 1:14:12show, a very divisive episode that our man Matt Salmon, friend of the
- 1:14:15pod, wrote the episode people don't like it. I remember enjoying it.
- 1:14:18But the first episode is called he Loves to Fly and he does. After
- 1:14:21a trip on mister Burns's private plane, Homer enlists the aid of a life
- 1:14:26coach guest's voice Stephen Colbert to help him find a job that allows him to
- 1:14:30use a corporate jet. Okay, episode one of season nineteen. That sounds
- 1:14:34like a very thin premise to an episode, but we'll see, we shall
- 1:14:39see. Indeed, the movie is finished by this point, so hopefully they've
- 1:14:42got more time to focus on actual storytelling and ganinny of the episodes. But
- 1:14:45overall, though, just a little bit of tease for the next you know,
- 1:14:47the end of season wrap up. I don't think season eighteen was as
- 1:14:50bad as I was expecting. I'm gonna be honest. It had some stinkers,
- 1:14:54but it wasn't overall I was expecting the dirt worst. It wasn't that
- 1:15:00bad. Many people are saying this, and you have said this frequently throughout
- 1:15:02the course of us reviewing this season. Better than I expected. It is.
- 1:15:09People seem to have a lot of bad memories of this season, which
- 1:15:13is like, remember the first episode with the Muk, the chef and the
- 1:15:15wife from the Homer where he becomes the friend of the fat Tony his son.
- 1:15:18That was a good episode. Jays in the Pusscats, that was another
- 1:15:20good episode, the margin having doing the carpentry. I enjoyed that episode.
- 1:15:25So there's good episodes in there, and we will get through our top five
- 1:15:29each favorite episodes on our end of season review coming up here on fourfing a
- 1:15:31discount next week. You're going to be hearing me discussing who shot mister Burns
- 1:15:35Parts one and two with our pals at Cherberder podcast over in the UK.
- 1:15:40They joined me there and I recorded that at about four forty five five am
- 1:15:44this morning, so I'm pretty tired. That was a hell of a good
- 1:15:47time. So that will be next week's episode of fourfing a Discounts and next
- 1:15:49classic Review. We will throw up a pole on our Patreon for our supporters
- 1:15:54to vote which next classic review. Guy and I will go back and revisit.
- 1:15:58But for now, mister Davis, there has been the our review of
- 1:16:00You Can't Always Say Which You Want the end of season eighteen. Any final
- 1:16:01words for those incredible listeners out there, we hope you've enjoyed this episode of
- 1:16:05four Finger discount the podcast specializing in words so vile they should only be uttered
- 1:16:10by Satan when sitting on the toilet. S
