Transcript
- 0:48way too fun to miss. you Welcome to 70x80, the
- 1:07section of 7080 .it that deepens the topics discussed
- 1:11on the portal. I'm with the journalist Enzo Mauri,
- 1:14who introduces the topic of the day. Good morning,
- 1:17today I'm talking to you about a successful singer.
- 1:19When we talk about the English singer Kate Bush,
- 1:22it is easy to identify her with two of her greatest
- 1:25successes, Buterin Gates in 1978 and Babusca,
- 1:29published in 1980. Not everyone knows, however,
- 1:32that the inspiration of the Milnegras is a series.
- 1:34of coincidences, Galeotta was the TV. In 1977
- 1:37the young exorbitant Kate Bush coincidentally
- 1:41caught the broadcast on the BBC of the miniseries
- 1:43Wuthering Gates based on the book written by
- 1:46Emily Bront. The novel tells the tormented love
- 1:49story between the protagonist Heathcliff and
- 1:51Catherine. Kate Bush was fascinated by the story
- 1:54and inspired in particular by the dramatic epilogue,
- 1:57she decided to compose Wuthering Gates. It is
- 2:23said that the song was born in a few hours in
- 2:25the heart of the night. At night it was also
- 2:27the incision of the song. The producer Andrew
- 2:29Powell declared that Kate Bush recorded Wuthering
- 2:32Gates in a single session and without filters.
- 2:35The work was completed in the morning. On two
- 2:37occasions Kate Bush stood up to Amy. Her powerful
- 2:41record company would have wanted to launch her
- 2:43with the single James and the Cold Gun, always
- 2:45taken from the album The Kick Inside. But she
- 2:49opposed. Yeah, that was about two years ago in
- 2:55a pub in Lewisham. And I was so scared, I really
- 2:59was. But once you're up there it's different,
- 3:02you know, you just forget all about it because
- 3:04they're there to see you and you have to give
- 3:06it to them. Have you had bad experiences? Yeah,
- 3:24a couple in the pubs actually, because sometimes
- 3:26you get audiences that you can't predict. And
- 3:30one particular night we were in Putney on the
- 3:33eve of the football match between Scotland and
- 3:35England and all the Scottish guys were in there.
- 3:38And they were mad, they were just mad. They had
- 3:40flags waving everywhere. No one could see the
- 3:43stage because all the guys were getting up on
- 3:44the stage and putting their arms around you.
- 3:47And it was a bit hard to keep singing when everyone
- 3:50was getting up on stage and poking sticks in
- 3:53your eye. But they were good, they were good
- 3:55people. How many O's did you get? I got ten.
- 4:16Ten? Yeah. They must have been disappointed when
- 4:19you went off to sing. I don't think so, no. I
- 4:22think they thought I was a bit foolish. Was there
- 4:39one day when you decided, that's it, I'm going
- 4:42to be a singer, I'm going to make that a career?
- 4:45Yes there was. I didn't think there would have
- 4:48been, but one day I was with a friend in a park
- 4:50and I just knew that was what I wanted to do.
- 4:53I had to leave school and I had to do it. and
- 4:56I'm very glad I did. The song Desordio, written
- 4:59by Kate Bush, came to the top of the British
- 5:01ranking and had a great return in Italy, where
- 5:04it placed number one in October 1978. Two memorable
- 5:10videos were made by Wuthering Gates for the choreography
- 5:12inspired by the works of Lindsay Camp. In the
- 5:14first, shot in Salisbury, the singer wears a
- 5:18red dress. In the second version, the singer
- 5:21appears dressed in white in a room surrounded
- 5:24by mist. the single babushka, a Russian word
- 5:27that means grandmother, but also a cover, taken
- 5:30from the 1980 album Never Forever, the case put
- 5:34us in a bind. Kate Bush, fascinated by the concept
- 5:36of synchronicity, in fact, told of having written
- 5:39it for having seen on TV a Russian song dedicated
- 5:41to a babushka, reading the same topic taken from
- 5:45a magazine, and after discovering that the cat
- 5:47of a friend of hers had exactly that name. Thank
- 6:08you to Enzo Mauri for today's theme. See you
