- 0:16Speaker 1: Good morning.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Good morning, it is Thursday, I'm Shelley and I am back.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Y'all, this is going to be a really, really good one.
- 0:23Speaker 1: They're all good, so just a quick thank you to everybody who's watching.
- 0:28Speaker 1: If you're on Facebook, don't forget to like and share the video out so we can get it to more folks.
- 0:34Speaker 1: So, thank you Facebook, thank you all the prayer groups, thank you LinkedIn folks on YouTube and on Twitter, and a special shout out to those watching on Braydeck TV live.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Yeah, we made it to another Thursday.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Hello, michael Rossi, today is going to be a good one.
- 0:52Speaker 1: This one today is going to be more thought provoking, or maybe you know just the way that we use some words and we're going to talk about YOLO and just for some context, I'm before I actually go into Lord.
- 1:05Speaker 1: We just thank you for another opportunity to come before you and share your word and reach your people, and I'm afraid that you are glorified and they'll come to know you and that the Holy Spirit is demonstrated and they will come to see you and not me.
- 1:17Speaker 1: In Jesus name, amen, gotta, start there.
- 1:20Speaker 1: So I was on a.
- 1:23Speaker 1: I was leading a panel earlier this week called Faith at Work, and one of the things that I shared.
- 1:29Speaker 1: I was, I was, I was actually thinking about, and I was asking the Lord why some, why some people are so hesitant, really hesitant, about living a life as a believer, right as, as you know, as a Christian or Jesus follower, or whatever the title people are going with nowadays, and so we're.
- 1:52Speaker 1: I was sharing about YOLO.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Yolo we I think we all know what YOLO stands for it's you only live once, and so I wanted to dig in deeper about how our perception and the way that we approach things in this life impacts what we actually do.
- 2:08Speaker 1: So I went into Bible study, I created about it and, as you can see in the kind of the theme and some of the notes that I dropped in the description of today's topic, I talk about YOLO because it's really encouraging you to live your life to the fullest, because you only have one life, but it's it's really associated with anything that's you know we can do whatever and don't worry about any negative consequences.
- 2:34Speaker 1: And where it becomes complicated is the Bible, on the other hand, is encouraging you to live life to the fullest, but in a way that's guided by moral integrity and responsibility and not just doing whatever, and so I really wanted to dig into hello.
- 2:52Speaker 1: I really wanted to dig into how, you know how, especially as we, as we talk about YOLO and making the most out of this life, it's not forgetting that, you know, this life is actually short, but but death is forever.
- 3:07Speaker 1: There's an eternal life and so so, so I'm going to go into Romans one and I'm going to share my screen, so don't worry about it if you don't have.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Yes, exactly, solish realm, and we live, yeah, we live in by the spirit.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Thank you, of course.
- 3:23Speaker 1: So we're on multi-streams.
- 3:25Speaker 1: I can't see everybody who's joining, but I will try to grab your comment if I can see it quick enough.
- 3:31Speaker 1: So I'm going to present my screen.
- 3:35Speaker 1: I want to get us to Romans 1.
- 3:38Speaker 1: I use the ESV version because it's simpler and that's my lane.
- 3:42Speaker 1: So, romans 1, esv version, and I just highlighted some things in here I thought was really good to share.
- 3:49Speaker 1: So, again, romans 1, esv version, and I'm not going to read the whole thing, I'm just going to pull some of the verses through.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Please go back and read the entire chapter.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I tell everybody all the time don't take my word for it.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Go back into the word.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal it to you, ask for the spirit of wisdom and understanding.
- 4:08Speaker 1: He will tell you the same thing I'm telling you, so you don't think I'm making stuff up.
- 4:13Speaker 1: So in verse 11, I love how this actually starts this is a letter from Paul and he's saying for I long to see you and this is kind of the way that I'm coming to you guys I long to see you that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you.
- 4:29Speaker 1: So the intention is, as we're sharing these teachings, as I'm sharing you, what the Lord is giving me is to strengthen you and your walk in me as well, so that we're mutually encouraged by each other's faith, yours and mine, right?
- 4:43Speaker 1: So I'm not here preaching to teach, or preaching to condemn, or preaching to judge or anything like that.
- 4:49Speaker 1: It's for us to be mutually encouraged, because this walk is hard, really, really hard.
- 4:54Speaker 1: And then, as he says, I don't want you to be unaware of some of the things that, like you, I want to reap the harvest of all the blessings that the Lord has set aside for me.
- 5:08Speaker 1: So, that said, in verse 16, it talks about not being ashamed of the gospel and I'm going to round this up a little bit but from not ashamed of the gospel, for it's the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first, and also to the Greeks.
- 5:24Speaker 1: So the gospel is for everybody, and righteousness God is revealed from faith for faith, and we think about from faith to faith.
- 5:33Speaker 1: This is a journey.
- 5:34Speaker 1: So, as we're talking about YOLO and again, christians say it, believers say it, nonbelievers say it, we all say this thing, but I think the intention is to do, we know what we're saying.
- 5:47Speaker 1: So we come down into verse 18.
- 5:51Speaker 1: It talks about the wrath of God being revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness, and why, for what can be known about God is plain to them because God has shown it.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Like y'all, we know that there are consequences to our actions.
- 6:07Speaker 1: We know we can't just YOLO through everything, because we do understand there are consequences to things that we do.
- 6:14Speaker 1: But, quite frankly, as I was having this conversation with the Holy Spirit, I was like why is it so hard?
- 6:21Speaker 1: Or why do we fall into this idea that we could just do whatever, say whatever, live whatever, eat whatever, and not think about the consequences?
- 6:32Speaker 1: Because most of the times we're focused on this side of life, we're focused on the 80, 90 years we have on this side of life.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Most people aren't thinking about the eternal life, like what happens after you leave.
- 6:44Speaker 1: They're not OK.
- 6:47Speaker 1: So part of the consequences is that we tend to do things or say things or put ourselves in places that end up dishonoring God.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Right, so verse 24, it says therefore, God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the disonning of their bodies among themselves, because it's changed the truth about God for a lie and worship and serve creature rather than Creator, who is blessed forever.
- 7:13Speaker 1: So that and again I want you to go back in the rest of it.
- 7:19Speaker 1: I pulled out another section and since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, he gave them up.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Literally, he will give you up.
- 7:26Speaker 1: God is not going to fight you, beg you, chase you.
- 7:29Speaker 1: He's not doing that.
- 7:31Speaker 1: So people, you know that end up being filled, and you can see, filled with evil and malice and envy and murder and all of these things.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Gossips, you know, don't think you can, you know, yolo your way through a gossip and take people down and there's no consequence to that behavior, or slanderers, or insulin and all these things, right, disobedient to our parents, you know, even if you've got.
- 7:53Speaker 1: You know, you have that parental situation where you're thinking y'all should never have been parents, even in that it's.
- 8:01Speaker 1: That's something that you have to think about how you are approaching this life, the decisions that you're making.
- 8:07Speaker 1: So, so, romans one.
- 8:10Speaker 1: So now I'm going to share.
- 8:10Speaker 1: I had some other notes.
- 8:12Speaker 1: I'm going to stop sharing real quick because I had I had exactly exactly.
- 8:16Speaker 1: I'm just checking the chat sharpen iron, chase the one.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:21Speaker 1: So here's where you got to be very careful with when the Lord says, when the word is talking about chasing you because it's not chasing you like you're going to keep sinning and he's going to come after you.
- 8:34Speaker 1: What he's saying is you are all of us are all important to the Lord, but the Holy Spirit is not going to force you, beg you, chase you down for you to come in.
- 8:43Speaker 1: It is.
- 8:44Speaker 1: It is you under his authority, not him under your authority, not you do whatever you want and think that that's just going to.
- 8:54Speaker 1: You know, because God is righteous, god is spirit.
- 8:57Speaker 1: He's not, he's not going to just keep chasing you, right?
- 9:01Speaker 1: He's not going to keep chasing you.
- 9:04Speaker 1: So, wherever you follow that scripture, what he's saying is that God knows your heart, god knows what's on your mind, he knows your soul.
- 9:12Speaker 1: But if you think about it this way, if you continue to do things that are outside of what he's telling you, if you continue to dishonor God, he's not going to chase you.
- 9:23Speaker 1: So I don't know where that came from, but go back and read the full context of the of the scripture.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Okay, so, all right.
- 9:30Speaker 1: So a couple more things.
- 9:31Speaker 1: When I was looking into YOLO and I was I was trying to understand the different definitions.
- 9:37Speaker 1: So Cambridge Dictionary basically mainly set us on social media.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Again, you know where we all live, that you're meant to do things that are enjoyable and exciting, even if they're silly or slightly dangerous.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Dictionarycom, you know, talked about our ability that we use this to rationalize impulsive or reckless behavior, and so they had some crazy examples.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Like I bought those expensive shoes up and I can't afford it.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Yolo like okay, that's a thing, that's not a thing.
- 10:07Speaker 1: But a four of the dangers of YOLO that I want to just share with you guys is the first thing is that you end up, you know, you end up ignoring the consequences of your behavior.
- 10:18Speaker 1: If you literally, if you're literally in that mindset that you know, well, I just, I only live once and I'm only focused on what's happening in the now.
- 10:26Speaker 1: You ignore the con, you end up ignoring the consequences because you're just focused on that impulsive behavior.
- 10:32Speaker 1: The second thing is that you do actually dishonor God because if you are a believer and I think most of y'all are you understand that there are still.
- 10:43Speaker 1: There's still expectations that God is not a God.
- 10:46Speaker 1: He's not a God of chaos or craziness.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Right, there's order involved in things.
- 10:52Speaker 1: So, even in decisions that I'm making about my life, like my job, sometimes it's like what am I gonna wear Coming to this, coming to this call?
- 11:00Speaker 1: There is worship.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Before I get here, to make sure that what I share with you is what, literally, the Holy Spirit wants me to say honoring Him in the way that I treat people around me, whether I like Him or not.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Right, you have to.
- 11:12Speaker 1: You know, you have to.
- 11:13Speaker 1: You have to.
- 11:14Speaker 1: You know.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Think about how you're honoring God, how you honor God in your finances, how you honor God with you know, the business people you do business with and things like that.
- 11:22Speaker 1: So, honoring God always.
- 11:25Speaker 1: The third thing that is a danger of Yolo is you end up worshiping and serving creation and not our Creator.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Right, you end up worshiping, literally putting people on pedestal, or worshiping things that are not of God, things that are created, not our Creator.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Right, people talk about the universe all the time and I always say I, I, I worship the Creator of the universe.
- 11:49Speaker 1: That's like me saying I'm worshiping Georgia or Atlanta.
- 11:52Speaker 1: No right, so it's, it's being, you know, being mindful of that.
- 11:58Speaker 1: You're not serving material things, you're not serving creation.
- 12:02Speaker 1: And then the last danger is not understanding that death is actually eternal.
- 12:07Speaker 1: So we're here for 80, 90 years or so bless us, maybe 100 of that, you know, if that, that's, that's what we get in this life, but death is eternal.
- 12:16Speaker 1: And because we we don't think about that, we think about, you know, what I can get out of this life today.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Then then we end up, you know, kind of going down the wrong way.
- 12:26Speaker 1: So, yellow, you know you only live once.
- 12:30Speaker 1: That you know, again, be mindful of what you say, when you say it, understanding that there are consequences behind that.
- 12:38Speaker 1: You know, go back in Romans one and you know, read the entire chapter and first, if you have questions about the Lord chasing you, again go back into the word, because there are consequences even with that, thinking that you can't just do whatever you want and then he just can keep chasing you.
- 12:57Speaker 1: No, please go back into the word and really study that, because even in Romans one, he tells you literally in this chapter that I just showed you, that the word says that he will give you over to your, to the, to the, to the mindset.
- 13:15Speaker 1: He will give you over meaning he's not, he gave them up in the lust of their heart, to impurity.
- 13:21Speaker 1: He will literally give you up, right.
- 13:25Speaker 1: So?
- 13:26Speaker 1: So go back and make sure that you read the word.
- 13:28Speaker 1: So that's what we had Today was a bing bang, boom.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Like I said, it was mainly.
- 13:33Speaker 1: I wanted something that was thoughtful, as we're saying, you know what we're doing with our lives and we're using some of these terms.
- 13:40Speaker 1: So I'm going to close with prayer right now.
- 13:43Speaker 1: So, lord, we just thank you again for another opportunity to come on and share your word and encouraging your people to go and learn more about you, not what the world says about you, but what you say about you.
- 13:56Speaker 1: And we just thank you for everybody who's under the sound of my voice, whether they're watching the live or the replay.
- 14:02Speaker 1: And, lord, I especially want to pray for those who've been impacted this week with job loss or health issues, with financial issues.
- 14:10Speaker 1: We just thank you, lord, god, that you're still a father that provides, and for those who are those of us who are in a season of having to trust you when we can't see the day before us, we can't see our way out, but, lord, that you will demonstrate your love for us and provide for us.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Forgive us, lord, god.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Forgive us for all of our sins and iniquities and twisting or anything that we've done to twist or muddy the word or anything.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Lord, we ask that you will give us the spirit of wisdom to understand, understand what your words mean.
- 14:43Speaker 1: And, lord, help us to love one another and really live out the life that you've called us to live, and just bless everybody under the sound of my voice, and I pray that they will continue to see your grace and your mercy, lord, god.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Thank you so much, lord, in Jesus' name.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Amen Y'all.
- 15:01Speaker 1: That's what I had Ding bang, boom.
- 15:03Speaker 1: We talked about yellow.
- 15:04Speaker 1: I will be back here next Thursday.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Please go out and have a wonderful day.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Be kind to somebody else.
- 15:12Speaker 1: You don't know what's going on in people's lives.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Don't be judgmental.
- 15:15Speaker 1: Be kind to folks and have a wonderful, blessed Thursday.
