Latest / Rusty's Garage / Dave Casey - Part 2
Transcript
- 0:02A listener production.
- 0:20G'day, it's Rusty here, all set for part two of a special branded ep of Rusty's Garage with Dave Casey.
- 0:26Now, if you've showed up here and not caught part one, head back to the library and hit the gas.
- 0:32From a Toyota he bought for a couple of hundred bucks that started it all.
- 0:36The move from paddock bashing to off-road, and the wild resto that involved fitting a fire-breathing rotary into a little Suzuki four-wheel drive.
- 0:46Unbelievable.
- 0:47And an event that is right behind that has now got truly national appeal and a special spot on the calendar too.
- 0:55That old saying, never judge a book by its cover, is incredibly true.
- 0:59And part two of our convo is another great example.
- 1:02Beneath the larrikin exterior is a proud Rockhampton man who now travels around the country chasing the Super Utes crown.
- 1:10How the class has grown in stature after a tough couple of seasons and why he's enjoying riding the wave.
- 1:18Being able to benchmark himself against some name racers and getting guidance from people like Paul Morris, who you can find in the garage library, who's helped his confidence grow significantly.
- 1:30Absolutely.
- 1:30He is a genuine contender on race weekends now.
- 1:34Getting the mind match fit has been a big part of it too.
- 1:37And why Dave's not ruling out a return to SST, the stadium super trucks either.
- 1:43That chapter with Robbie Gordon and co, if it gets reignited down under, is something that appears to be unfinished business for him.
- 1:51Now this ep is brought to you by a mutual supporter of Dave's and ours in Bendix Brakes, who've been with us right the way throughout the garage journey.
- 2:00They make world-class brake upgrade kits for all sorts of applications, and Mudflap really puts them to the test in utes and four-wheel drives.
- 2:10We begin part two on the importance of experience and those who may have given some guidance on the journey so far.
- 2:17Welcome.
- 2:21What about influences for you in a racing sense?
- 2:23Have there been people that you've maybe looked up to in the four-wheel drive scene or in circuit racing?
- 2:29Who are the kind of heroes that stood out or that you perhaps even have a relationship with?
- 2:36Oh, growing up, my dad told me about Anton Senna.
- 2:40I never actually seen him race, but I've done a lot of research and that on him growing up.
- 2:47I actually had to do a school project on him.
- 2:49We had to dress up as someone we idolized and do a speech on him, so I'd done it on Anton Senna.
- 2:54So I ended up learning a bit about him.
- 2:59You were a massive HRT fan too, mate, weren't you?
- 3:02Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:03On top right?
- 3:04Yeah.
- 3:04Always loved me whole.
- 3:07Had a lot of holding posters in my room.
- 3:08I loved Lounsey and Scaife and Brockie and Tanda.
- 3:13But it's actually pretty damn cool to be racing in the utes now and then to have people you idolised growing up like Lounsey and Tanda commentating on you.
- 3:23That's a pretty pinch-me moment sort of thing.
- 3:26And then spun around to the back, giving this young guy from Rockhampton a start, Dave Casey, in the SWL entry, Truck 121.
- 3:32Yeah, always a Holden fan.
- 3:34Our whole family were Holden people.
- 3:36So yeah, it's pretty cool.
- 3:39Stadium Super Trucks is something that has been hugely popular with the fans of supercars.
- 3:45I know it's had its, you know, it's still on the calendar in some events, obviously.
- 3:52But tell us about how you got into it to begin with and what it is like to pilot one of those things.
- 3:57Oh, yeah, they're the coolest thing you'll ever drive.
- 4:02How I got into it is I actually messaged stadium super trucks for a long time over social media and email, never heard anything of them.
- 4:13And then COVID hit.
- 4:15Yep.
- 4:17I think they were just looking for something to do while we were all in lockdown at Norwell.
- 4:22So they gave us all a message and said, oh, come down if you want to have a test.
- 4:29So we went down for a test and, yeah, the rest is history.
- 4:33Met Paul Morris and a few of the other lads from Stadium Super Trucks Australia.
- 4:37And, yeah, it was a pretty cool day.
- 4:41Very much a pinch me moment again.
- 4:43And, yeah, they said, oh, if you want to,
- 4:46I think it was Tassie.
- 4:48Yeah, come race at Tassie and get the money together and you can have a drive.
- 4:54Yeah, so then I scrambled trying to find the money and, yeah, I couldn't actually...
- 5:01I had a couple of businesses locally come on board, but...
- 5:05It didn't cover the whole lot, so then I had to chip in a fair amount.
- 5:09And I thought, oh, well, if I'm going to do one round, I might as well just have a crack and do it.
- 5:14And, yeah, went and raced Tassie.
- 5:17And then straight after that, we got a sponsor to cover the other rounds we'd done.
- 5:21So, yeah, it worked out well.
- 5:24Amazing.
- 5:24Tell me about your first impressions of the trucks and what they're like.
- 5:29Because you do...
- 5:31I mean, they launch them.
- 5:34Yeah.
- 5:35But at the same time, there's a competitive wheel-to-wheel element, isn't there?
- 5:38Casey runs in second.
- 5:40Rob White, who returns to the series, runs in third.
- 5:42There's Greg Gardner.
- 5:43Oh, no!
- 5:45And he's going to spin in front of the group.
- 5:47The first thing that you notice is actually how small they are.
- 5:50They look a lot bigger on TV.
- 5:53And then you rock up and you look at them and they're, you know, I'm standing taller than them.
- 5:58They're about the size of a...
- 6:00a Jeep Wrangler sort of thing.
- 6:01And I'm just like, yeah, righto.
- 6:03And then...
- 6:06You get in them, but everything... Obviously, Robbie's highly experienced and whatnot.
- 6:12Everything's in the right position.
- 6:14You know, you've got your turn and brake, where you sit, and you've got plenty of room.
- 6:18Actually, you've got a left foot brake with them because there's a tube going through your legs, so you can't right foot brake, so you've got to use two preddles.
- 6:28That was a bit of an eye-opener because I've never really done that before.
- 6:30So, oh, in go-karts and that, but...
- 6:34Yeah, the other thing is the brakes on them.
- 6:38Robbie purposely made the brakes really bad on them, which sounds stupid, but that's why they have competition cautions every four to five laps because the brakes are completely fried on them.
- 6:49They've got to have a lap to cool them down.
- 6:51So, yeah, that took a lot to get used to because if you just go and slam the brakes on, you know, for one or two laps, you got nothing for another three.
- 7:00So, that was a lot to get used to.
- 7:03The steering, they're one-to-one steering.
- 7:05So, like, about that much lock is full lock one way and that much lock is full lock.
- 7:11So, that's why you...
- 7:11So, like a go-kart almost.
- 7:12Yeah, yeah.
- 7:13It's just very minimal.
- 7:14Yeah.
- 7:15So, like...
- 7:16That's why you see some of them sometimes when they land and you might jolt yourself and that's because the steering's so one-to-one on them, they're darting off everywhere.
- 7:30Yeah, they've got a turning brake or a handbrake.
- 7:34You've got to pinch on that to get rid of understeer during corners.
- 7:40They're pretty cool.
- 7:41They're just set up so well because Robbie's got so much experience, but you've really got to be – yeah, like the drivers in them are extremely talented.
- 7:49They know them back to front.
- 7:51There's a technique with them, which is –
- 7:53Very, very specific.
- 7:56How long did it take to sort of get familiar with that technique then?
- 7:59And when did you feel at home in it?
- 8:03Probably like Darwin.
- 8:05Yeah, a couple of rounds in it sort of thing.
- 8:07Yeah, it's...
- 8:10Yeah, it's – and just to have, like, you know, other trucks jumping around you, like, so high in the airs of – and bashing India, it's – yeah, it's full on, eh?
- 8:21It's not like nothing you can explain.
- 8:23I love the fact that you brought up some of the names there before too, from Paul Morris to Robbie Gordon and more.
- 8:29What has it been like competing against some of those guys there?
- 8:33I mean – Russell Engle, like, yeah.
- 8:36I never would have thought I would have been on the grid next to him sort of thing.
- 8:39Yeah.
- 8:41Yeah, like Toby Price, like someone you look up to, inspire to, and you're lining up on the grid next to him.
- 8:47And meet along the way, which is very cool.
- 8:51Yeah, all the blokes in the whole category, they're all top blokes too.
- 8:57So they just all come up and shake your hand, how you going, mate?
- 9:02And then you're friends for life.
- 9:04Paul Wheel's another one.
- 9:05He's a great bloke.
- 9:06I actually had a bit of a crash with him in Darwin, but he came up to me afterwards and said, yeah, we're all sweet.
- 9:14Like not many blokes would do that.
- 9:15So great bloke.
- 9:19Yeah, there's a handful of them.
- 9:21I mean, the fact that you're conversing with Russell Ingle or Paul Morris and Robbie Gordon, I mean, his CV, mate, is pretty impressive and he's instrumental in that category or class of racing, isn't he?
- 9:35Yeah, he didn't get over our way much during COVID.
- 9:39It was just so hard.
- 9:41But he was always, obviously, he was always there watching and putting his two bobs worth in from beaming him from the other side, kind of like you are now.
- 9:51But yeah, he's obviously a top bloke and very, very knowledgeable in the whole motorsport scene, as you said.
- 10:00Tell me about the move into super utes.
- 10:02This is something relatively new on the supercars offering these days.
- 10:06It's actually, I think this year probably more than ever, it's really started to hit its straps.
- 10:11Tell us how you got involved in it and how all that came about.
- 10:16Yeah, look, it's definitely – you're correct there.
- 10:19It's definitely in straps.
- 10:20But how we got involved in it.
- 10:24So when the trucks left, I had Bendix already lined up for the following year.
- 10:29Full season, full coverage on the truck.
- 10:32They wanted to go all out with it.
- 10:34And Stadium Super Trucks, you're talking here, aren't you?
- 10:36Yeah, yeah.
- 10:37Yep.
- 10:37And I think we got the news about October that the trucks are going back to America
- 10:47they don't know when they're coming back.
- 10:48So I was pretty devastated.
- 10:51I'm like, oh, what am I gonna do now?
- 10:54I rang Paul up, Paul Morris, and I said, oh, I really, really want to stay within the supercar scene.
- 10:59This is me.
- 11:00I'm loving it so much.
- 11:02And, you know, I've got Bendix lined up.
- 11:05Do you reckon I can get in a ute?
- 11:07Because it's market relevant to all the dual cabs now.
- 11:11And he rang Luke Cedars for me, who's the head dude of Cedars Racing.
- 11:17And... Mm-hmm.
- 11:18Yeah, and then Luke rang me and said, oh, you want to come test a ute?
- 11:23So I got on a plane and went and tested a ute, and yeah, we're sitting here now talking about it two years in.
- 11:30Beautiful.
- 11:30So where was that test?
- 11:32Tell me about the ute and so on.
- 11:36Wakefield.
- 11:36Yep.
- 11:37South of Sydney, near Goulburn there.
- 11:39Yep.
- 11:39Yeah, we went there because they're a Sydney-based team, obviously, and...
- 11:43We didn't really want to go to SMP straight up because it's a pretty high-speed track, and you don't want to throw people in that you don't really know into a track like that and potentially ride off the whole car.
- 11:54So we went to Wakefield.
- 11:57Yeah, and the first couple of laps were pretty slow, but then we started getting into the swing of things.
- 12:06They're very different to drive.
- 12:09They're...
- 12:10They're very similar to a V8 supercar, but they're H-pattern box, so you've got a heel-toe and all that.
- 12:16So I had to get that crisp and just the whole turning and braking of them is a very specific technique, way different to the trucks, obviously.
- 12:28So it took a fair while to get used to that.
- 12:32After the day, I think I went for another test at SMP then.
- 12:37And then Luke's like, oh, do you want to race this year?
- 12:40So then I went back to Bendix and said, here, here's what we got.
- 12:45I got offered this drive in the Super Utes.
- 12:48It's market relevant.
- 12:51appealing to the people with your break-up grade kits and your four-wheel drive community, I think we should go down this path.
- 12:57And they came back to me and said, yeah, let's do it.
- 12:59And, yeah, it's been a really good relationship ever since.
- 13:04Let's talk about a couple of things here.
- 13:05Firstly, the transition to circuit racing, something very different really from the four-wheel drive competition that you were used to and even, I mean, diametrically different to Stadium Super Trucks.
- 13:16What sort of training did you have and did you go to Norwell a bit more with Paul Morris?
- 13:20Where did you go to sort of hone the circuit racing skills?
- 13:23Because that's so different, Dave.
- 13:25Yeah, I can tell.
- 13:27Yeah, it is.
- 13:28It's massively different.
- 13:31Luke Cedars started a fairly extensive driving program with me in the first year.
- 13:39It was a massive learning curve.
- 13:42I think I got to the bend last year.
- 13:47And I was pretty down.
- 13:48I had a really, a pretty, pretty bad round there.
- 13:52And then Luke said, oh, I think you should start talking to Lee Stamation from Reaction Performance.
- 13:58I reached out to Lee and he rang me straight off the round.
- 14:03He said, look, I can't do anything with you this weekend, really, but we'll start working with you like the week after the Ben round.
- 14:10and it's pretty much the best thing I've ever done.
- 14:13Like he's sort of taken me under his wing.
- 14:15The whole package from, you know, mental preparation, physical preparation, sim training to he's my engineer on the cans on the weekend to looking at data.
- 14:29So, and just someone to talk to about everything because you're with someone that much and you can just keep bouncing off each other.
- 14:37So our relationship is...
- 14:40very very strong at the moment and and as at of at the start of this year like as we really done a lot of training in the off season so yeah a lot of a lot of physical mental neuro training um sim work have you found that how have you found it was a massive eye-opener mate especially that neuro stuff like
- 15:02Yeah.
- 15:03That's quite different for you, mate, isn't it?
- 15:05Yeah, yeah.
- 15:06It's so different.
- 15:07But it's pretty cool to learn about yourself and who you actually are and what your weaknesses and strengths are.
- 15:15And we're still learning about myself now.
- 15:20you know, right.
- 15:21Racing is a lot of it is, is mental.
- 15:24Just getting ready mentally before a race is and having a preparation and procedure is, yeah, we've got that down pat now.
- 15:32And just the differences that makes is just outstanding.
- 15:36Um, at the start of the year, we, we really nutted out what we needed to do because Cedars went and built me a new car, a new ISUZU D-Max and, um,
- 15:45and Bendix came on board again.
- 15:47So we're like, righto, we really need to step it up a notch here.
- 15:49And so Luke and Lee talked and, yeah, we've been going great ever since.
- 15:54Like Perth, we had really solid results.
- 15:56Sydney, we were top five all weekend sort of thing pace-wise and results.
- 16:02So Ben, we were in that bingle last weekend.
- 16:06So, again, the Ben's like my arch nemesis.
- 16:08Nemesis.
- 16:09Yeah.
- 16:10Yeah.
- 16:12Yeah, it's so good to have Lee there and to be able to talk to him about everything and just keep on to me about training and keep my dedication and work ethic up.
- 16:33Rusty always said this podcast wasn't just going to be about big name riders and drivers.
- 16:39There are so many other stories from the world of motorsport, like the cheeky Kiwi Andy Mack L. Ray who called on friends and almost Arthur Daly style tactics to get a start in a major event.
- 16:51So he kept pestering the poor bugger that was running the race of champions and like
- 16:57a couple of days before the race at Brands Hatch, he had him convinced that the South Island was its own country and that I should be the first reserve.
- 17:07And a guy called Scott Atchison, who won the American Formula Ford Championship, couldn't make it at the last minute.
- 17:13So I got thrown in.
- 17:15Absolutely hopelessly underprepared, but it was an absolutely unbelievable experience.
- 17:23And he has gone on to become a very successful team owner, especially in Porsche Carrera Cup in Australia, and recently opened the doors in America too.
- 17:32Now, back to Larrake Newt racer Dave Casey.
- 17:36So you're a positive person by nature.
- 17:39So is it a competitive thing?
- 17:40Do you get a bit sort of down on yourself if you're not able to demonstrate on track the competitive Dave Casey?
- 17:49Oh, yeah.
- 17:50If you ask Lee, I'm one of the most competitive people you ever meet.
- 17:52I might be always having a laugh and jovial, but, yeah, I'm very, very competitive and I like to achieve and win and –
- 18:03Actually, going back to that neuro stuff, it's when you win or get an achievement, you get a lot of your dopamine levels go up.
- 18:12And that's, yeah, we were looking at all of that.
- 18:16And, yeah, if I get really low dopamine, it's pretty bad.
- 18:21I drop off the cliff sort of thing.
- 18:23So I've got to keep the positivity up.
- 18:26Good on you.
- 18:26Tell me about the Isuzu.
- 18:28It's a great car.
- 18:30Luke and the boys at Sears Racing built it for us in the off-season.
- 18:35They're an LS3 motor built by War Speed Industries, 500 horsepower, six-speed manual transmission.
- 18:45Nine-inch rear end, but the coilovers are mounted horizontally, like cantilever style, which is very, very different.
- 18:55They've got a subframe underneath where the coilovers mount, so that makes it handle better and how they mount and whatnot.
- 19:03Six-pot brake package on the front and a four-pot in the rear, they stop really, really well.
- 19:09They've got a Tilton pedal box, and that's the same one that they run in the supercars.
- 19:16Heltech ECU MoTech Dash all the work's done by the fabrication work's done by Pace Innovations so they're sort of the controlled supplier of all the chassis and cage work and that
- 19:32the characteristics of them like when pace were building them they wanted them to be the same driving style as a supercar like as the closest thing you can get obviously they have no aero they don't run we don't have slick tires we have semi-slick but the actual way you drive them they want want it to be the same as a supercar and
- 19:55And I think a lot of people are realizing that now as the category gets a lot more numbers, there's a lot of serious competitors jumping on board and it's becoming harder and harder to win a race.
- 20:09Why has it had such a, particularly this year, why has it had that kind of growth spurt, that increased interest or popularity?
- 20:18What do you reckon's behind that?
- 20:20A few factors.
- 20:22When they first came out with the diesel, it's taken a while to get rid of.
- 20:26They had a few troubled years with that.
- 20:28So when they went to the switch with the V8, it's taken a few years for people to sort of get over that stigma that the diesel had.
- 20:36And the V8, you know, the crowd loves it, the noise, and it creates better racing.
- 20:50Guana.
- 20:51Yeah, yeah, yes.
- 20:53She's great with videography and socials and all sorts.
- 20:57Yeah, yeah.
- 20:58So she's in charge of the whole administration and media of the whole category now as of the band last year as well.
- 21:08So I think...
- 21:10the whole appearance of the category is making a pit, like raising a few eyelids along pit lane as well.
- 21:16And like, you know, people like Royal Harris, um, coming back into the category, um, Jimmy Vernon, he's a, he's a very, very good driver, you know, Adrian Cottrell, all these new additions is making people say, you know, like these guys are coming into it.
- 21:31There's going to be some good hard racing and yeah.
- 21:35And, and, and it's, you know, it must be pretty good.
- 21:37And we might have a look at that.
- 21:38And then, you know, yeah,
- 21:40I think Luke had a few calls to say, oh, can you organize getting us a few more cars built last week at the bend, like a few more new ones.
- 21:51So it's just growing and it's affordable too.
- 21:56I think due to the slower economy and that at the moment, it's harder to afford the Super 2, Super 3 path and stuff and Porsche at the moment.
- 22:09So people are looking for a cheaper option but still...
- 22:14Still really good hard racing.
- 22:16I think the Utes are getting back to what they were, you know, five, ten years ago when it was Holden and Ford.
- 22:22That's the aim, and I think, yeah, it's on the trajectory of going there.
- 22:27Great stuff.
- 22:28So what's your target this year then, given some of the competitive appearances you've had, with the exception of the bend and so on?
- 22:34Tell me about what the target is.
- 22:37Well, we're...
- 22:38We're hopeful for, you know, we're going to be pushing for podiums.
- 22:43We definitely got the pace now.
- 22:45So that's definitely our, you know, like we've got that in our sights, that's for sure.
- 22:50There's no question, yeah, that's what we're aiming for.
- 22:53So, yeah.
- 22:54That's the short-term objective.
- 22:55Long-term, what do you want to do here?
- 22:56I mean, you've had a great upbringing, if you like, around the four-wheel drive scene in events terms.
- 23:03You're doing some terrific stuff there in Rocky.
- 23:06You're obviously enjoying this whole new circuit racing challenge.
- 23:08What next?
- 23:09Yeah, definitely.
- 23:11I'm going to stick with the circuit racing stuff now.
- 23:14I just want to keep my head down and do the best we can in the utes, master that, and I don't know, like just –
- 23:22Possibly a super three, super two stuff into the future.
- 23:26I just, I think that's our long-term goal.
- 23:32Do that and kick it off the bucket list.
- 23:35And yeah, just want to be known as a bloke from Rocky having a go, mate, and put it on the map.
- 23:41Cool.
- 23:41Speaking of having a go, the way you've been able to bring Bendix together here with this program is terrific, mate, because it's kind of real world in some respects.
- 23:53Just give people a sense of the kind of activation you're doing around the partnership that you have here with the Ute and so on.
- 23:59Yeah, so obviously we do a lot of media stuff on and off the track.
- 24:04We do like Netflix-style wrap-ups.
- 24:09Yeah.
- 24:10How does Mudflap go with that?
- 24:12Yeah, we're pretty funny.
- 24:16We've done a bit of meditation last at Sydney around.
- 24:19People are loving that.
- 24:22tell us more about that come on oh nothing no the cameraman scotty it's sort of like he's got a mic on him and he's talking to me throughout the whole weekend and he was looking for me and he come around a corner and i was warming up for a race and here i am doing meditation and people people laughing at it where is dave mate where is he oh there he is dave what are you doing
- 24:45Hey, come on, mate.
- 24:46What are we doing?
- 24:47Dave.
- 24:47What are you doing, mate?
- 24:48Trying to get in the zone.
- 24:49Oh, mate, it's day two.
- 24:51What are we... Yeah.
- 24:52What are you doing over here?
- 24:53Sleepy B, please.
- 24:54Trying to, you know, meditate, get in the zone.
- 24:57I need an intro to this video, mate.
- 24:59What are we... Yeah, sorry, mate.
- 25:00Alright, alright.
- 25:01Well, day two.
- 25:02Yeah, look, it's really a nice brisk morning here at Sydney Motorsport Park.
- 25:07We're just trying to get in the zone.
- 25:10We're starting P5 this morning, so we just really need to maximise our start.
- 25:14and hold our line so we don't get pushed off the track because, yeah, we're up with these frontrunners this morning.
- 25:19I'll let you get back in your zen, mate.
- 25:21I'm sorry about that.
- 25:22All right?
- 25:22Just go away, mate.
- 25:23All right, shit.
- 25:25But, yeah, we do that, like, sort of Netflix-style.
- 25:30Yeah, like wrap-ups and making people feel a part of the event and the whole journey.
- 25:37We do a lot of YouTube stuff, the whole Suzuki build.
- 25:42Excellent.
- 25:42With Bendix alongside us.
- 25:47Yeah, obviously Rocky Nats, Bendix are heavily involved in that.
- 25:51They, we allocate a whole site within my precinct and where people can show, have a look at the brake kits and whatnot they do.
- 26:04And yeah, obviously all the racing we do, yeah, they're showcased around Australia with our Bendix on the side of our ute.
- 26:14A couple to finish here.
- 26:15Firstly...
- 26:16Will you try and run in a stadium super truck again?
- 26:19Is there any interest to do SST?
- 26:24Possibly, possibly.
- 26:27Righto.
- 26:28Watch this space then.
- 26:29Okay.
- 26:29Watch this space.
- 26:33I have actually heard a few rumours that they might be coming back.
- 26:36So we'll have to...
- 26:38We'll have to wait and see.
- 26:40Okay.
- 26:41Okay.
- 26:41Don't go any further there.
- 26:42What about the vehicle that is your pride and joy?
- 26:46Is it the Suzuki?
- 26:47What's the one that is, of all of them in the garage, you put a lot of love into that project.
- 26:52Is that the vehicle that you kind of sleep and dream about?
- 27:00Yeah, probably.
- 27:01Yeah, it's one, sad to say, but yeah, little hairdresser's car that I sleep and dream about.
- 27:08It's pretty wild.
- 27:09Yeah.
- 27:11I've got a fair few.
- 27:13I've got a HZ Holden with an LS in it, sort of all rustic patina.
- 27:21I do a few burnout comps in it, but it's, I don't know, I got married with that car, so it's sort of,
- 27:28Holds a pretty big place in my heart, that one.
- 27:30Special place.
- 27:31Yeah.
- 27:32Yeah, probably a Suzuki.
- 27:33Probably a Suzuki.
- 27:34You and Georgia, I think, have got a little one too.
- 27:37Enzo, is that right?
- 27:40Yeah, me dog.
- 27:42Yeah.
- 27:43Tell us about Inzo.
- 27:44Oh, he's the funniest thing you'll ever meet, mate.
- 27:47He's a little border collie.
- 27:49He's got more energy than a kid full of smart, you know, on a bag of bloody jelly beans.
- 27:55But, yeah, he goes with me everywhere, that dog.
- 27:57I put him in the back of the HZ.
- 27:59I put him in my utes.
- 28:01Yeah, he's just...
- 28:04He's just always there.
- 28:06He goes everywhere with you.
- 28:08I don't know how I could live without him now.
- 28:11He's just your best mate.
- 28:13Before you go, what's next on the race schedule for you?
- 28:18We've got Sandown in two and a bit weeks now with the supercar, Sandown 500.
- 28:24And then it's actually a really busy few months for us because we're sort of racing every three to four weeks sort of thing.
- 28:32So sand down, then straight into Bathurst and then...
- 28:37I think two and a half weeks and then we're into the Gold Coast.
- 28:40Gold Coast, yeah.
- 28:42I actually love the Gold Coast.
- 28:44It's probably my – everyone loves Bathurst and I do too, but Goldie, I don't know.
- 28:49It's just – I love that place.
- 28:51Like it's just – Great track.
- 28:53Yeah, and just the whole vibe.
- 28:55If I win a race at Goldie on Sunday, I'm going to – I'll lay the biggest skid, mate, eh?
- 29:03It's been awesome to talk to you, mate, and get a bit of a sense of your character.
- 29:08Go well with the rest of the season.
- 29:11Sounds like you're on the cusp, mate.
- 29:13You're on the precipice of that, you know, hopefully regular podiums.
- 29:18All the ingredients are there.
- 29:19It's been great to chat with you about the four-wheel drive and the journey, and we hope the next chapter is just as exciting for you.
- 29:27Yeah, thanks a lot, mate.
- 29:28Thanks for having us on, eh?
