- Lucas: Hei igjen, og velkommen til episode 105 of Learn Norwegian with Fexingo. Luna: Hei Lucas! I'm ready to learn some more Norwegian. Lucas: Great, Luna. Today we're going to learn a verb that's super useful: 'å spørre' — to ask. Luna: Å spørre. That's to ask, right? Like asking a question? Lucas: Exactly. And before we dive in, I want to mention something. If Fexingo has been helping you make progress with Norwegian, a couple of dollars a month is genuinely what keeps these episodes going. You can support us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, it really helps. And it keeps the show ad-free. Okay, back to 'å spørre'! Lucas: Right. So 'å spørre' is an irregular verb. In present tense, it becomes 'spør'. Jeg spør — I ask. Luna: Jeg spør. That sounds a bit like 'spør' without the 're'. Lucas: Yes. And a very common phrase is 'Kan jeg spørre?' — Can I ask? Luna: Kan jeg spørre? Can I ask? That's perfect for when I want to ask you something. Lucas: Exactly. Another one: 'Spør meg' — Ask me. Luna: Spør meg. So if I want you to ask me something, I say 'Spør meg'. Lucas: Yes. And let's add a full sentence: 'Hun spør om veien' — She asks for directions. Luna: Hun spør om veien. So 'spør om' means 'asks about' or 'asks for'? Lucas: That's right. 'Å spørre om' is 'to ask about'. So 'hun spør om veien' is 'she asks about the way'. Luna: Okay, let me try all of them. Å spørre, jeg spør, kan jeg spørre, spør meg, hun spør om veien. Lucas: Fantastic, Luna. You really nailed the pronunciation. Just remember that 'spør' is present tense, not infinitive. Luna: Got it. So if I want to say 'I ask you', it's 'Jeg spør deg'? Lucas: Exactly! 'Jeg spør deg.' Perfect. Now let's imagine a little scene. You're at a cafe and you want to ask where the bathroom is. Luna: Okay. I could say 'Kan jeg spørre hvor toalettet er?' Lucas: Yes! That's a great sentence. 'Kan jeg spørre hvor toalettet er?' — Can I ask where the bathroom is? Luna: Kan jeg spørre hvor toalettet er. That's useful. Lucas: And you could also just say 'Hvor er toalettet?' but using 'kan jeg spørre' is more polite. Luna: Right. So 'å spørre' is really handy for asking questions politely. Lucas: Yes. Let's do one more repetition. Repeat after me: Å spørre. Luna: Å spørre. Lucas: Jeg spør. Luna: Jeg spør. Lucas: Kan jeg spørre? Luna: Kan jeg spørre? Lucas: Spør meg. Luna: Spør meg. Lucas: Hun spør om veien. Luna: Hun spør om veien. Lucas: Bra! You've got it. Now you can ask questions in Norwegian. Luna: Tusen takk, Lucas. I feel more confident already. Lucas: Great. Practice these phrases, and next time we'll learn something new. Ha det bra! Luna: Ha det bra!
