- 0:47SPEAKER_02: Thanks for having me on.
- 0:48SPEAKER_04: Absolutely.
- 0:48SPEAKER_04: And I have to give a shout out because local legends would not be here unless it was for you and your sponsorship.
- 0:55SPEAKER_04: So thank you for sponsoring this awesome podcast.
- 0:58SPEAKER_02: Thank you for the opportunity.
- 1:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:01SPEAKER_04: So before we get into it, I'm just going to glaze you, as my son says it.
- 1:05SPEAKER_04: Do you know glaze?
- 1:06SPEAKER_04: Have you heard of that?
- 1:07SPEAKER_04: Teach me.
- 1:07SPEAKER_04: What's glazing is I just learned fire.
- 1:09SPEAKER_04: So yeah.
- 1:10SPEAKER_04: You're fire and I'm going to glaze you.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: So she's going to glaze you and you're going to be on fire.
- 1:16SPEAKER_04: You're saying it wrong.
- 1:17SPEAKER_04: Just go.
- 1:17SPEAKER_04: Fire because he's cool.
- 1:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I know.
- 1:19SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:19SPEAKER_04: Anyway, I'm going to glaze you because you, I mean, insurance, and you always say it, like it's not the most exciting thing to talk about, but it's something we all need and we we have to have it, right?
- 1:30SPEAKER_04: Um, but I get to, both of us, I mean, we get to utilize you as our personal insurance agent.
- 1:38SPEAKER_04: We have whole life with you for our kiddos.
- 1:41SPEAKER_04: And um, that took, I think you were the fourth person to explain what whole life insurance was.
- 1:49SPEAKER_04: And I finally got it.
- 1:50SPEAKER_04: Um, so thank you for that.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: Took her a while to count.
- 1:54SPEAKER_04: It takes you a while for some things that are very important.
- 1:57SPEAKER_04: But you're also our car insurance agent, and um, we do business together, and you insure about 90% of my clients that come through.
- 2:06SPEAKER_04: So I thank you.
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: And we appreciate it.
- 2:07SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 2:08SPEAKER_04: So, how do we find you, Justin, my agent.
- 2:11SPEAKER_04: Yes, check us out.
- 2:12SPEAKER_02: Um, www.myagentjustin.com.
- 2:15SPEAKER_02: That's our website.
- 2:15SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 2:16SPEAKER_02: Um office number 480-983-0418.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:20SPEAKER_02: Um, but reach out to us online, give us a call.
- 2:23SPEAKER_02: We're always happy to help.
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:25SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: And he always answers the phone, which I really, really check.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: No, it's weird.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but that's what you have to do.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: Nowadays, people don't want to.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: If he doesn't answer, that means he's doing something and he'll close you right back.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: And I appreciate that.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: That's a that's something that people don't do nowadays.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: So I commend you for that.
- 2:40SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 2:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and so I've got a team of five people here locally as well.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: Um, they know the Phoenix area, like this is their specialty.
- 2:49SPEAKER_02: Um, you don't have you know kids sitting in his underwear in Nebraska trying to help with Arizona that has no idea what's going on.
- 2:55SPEAKER_02: So we try to be your local specialists and take great care of our customers, like family.
- 3:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I love that.
- 3:01SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's cool.
- 3:01SPEAKER_04: And you really mean it.
- 3:02SPEAKER_04: You're not just being like a cheesy salesperson.
- 3:05SPEAKER_04: That's what I love about you.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: Because you're a big all-around nice guy.
- 3:07SPEAKER_04: You should have good guy.
- 3:08SPEAKER_04: It's the Midwest in it.
- 3:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it is.
- 3:10SPEAKER_04: All right, so let's get into that.
- 3:11SPEAKER_04: Justin Lisk, where are you from?
- 3:13SPEAKER_04: How did you get to where you are right now in Arizona and doing what you do?
- 3:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 3:19SPEAKER_04: So give us the mini, Justin.
- 3:22SPEAKER_02: I grew up in Iowa.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 3:24SPEAKER_02: In Des Moines, and my mom worked for insurance.
- 3:28SPEAKER_02: She was a safe arm agent, and I grew up and I was like, I'm never doing that.
- 3:32SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 3:32SPEAKER_02: You know, I want to do some cool stuff.
- 3:34SPEAKER_02: So um I went to Iowa State, got my engineering degree, and I wanted to design cars.
- 3:40SPEAKER_02: So that's what I went to school for.
- 3:42SPEAKER_02: Um, I worked for a company that designed like testing equipment for race cars.
- 3:47SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 3:48SPEAKER_02: I did that for a couple years.
- 3:50SPEAKER_02: And then I got into an international company doing stuff for like tractors and excavators.
- 3:56SPEAKER_02: So like John Deere and Caterpillar were our big types of customers.
- 4:00SPEAKER_02: Um, traveled the world and loved it, and then got married, and we decided we wanted to start a family.
- 4:08SPEAKER_02: And my folks lived here in in Phoenix already.
- 4:12SPEAKER_02: And um I kind of got tired of the winter and I loved the Phoenix area.
- 4:16SPEAKER_02: So my wife and I were like, hey, let's pull the trigger, let's move somewhere nice and warm and where we don't have to shovel and be closer to to our family.
- 4:25SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 4:25SPEAKER_02: So that's what that's what transpired.
- 4:28SPEAKER_02: Um I decided I also didn't want to be traveling all the time.
- 4:32SPEAKER_02: So I was like, I need to find a different career.
- 4:35SPEAKER_02: My mom was like, hey, you know what it's like.
- 4:37SPEAKER_02: Like you've been to my office, you've helped me with events.
- 4:40SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 4:40SPEAKER_02: Give us agency a shot.
- 4:42SPEAKER_02: So I shadowed my agent for a while and he let me work there on the weekends and got to see what it was like.
- 4:48SPEAKER_02: Now, how old are you at this point when you're doing that?
- 4:50SPEAKER_02: This was six years ago.
- 4:53SPEAKER_02: So I was 31.
- 4:55SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 4:56SPEAKER_02: So I had spent And no kids, right?
- 4:58SPEAKER_02: No kids at that time.
- 4:59SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 5:00SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 5:01SPEAKER_02: I had spent 12 years in the like engineering field before all that.
- 5:06SPEAKER_02: That's a scary time.
- 5:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it was.
- 5:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:09SPEAKER_02: And so my wife actually didn't want me to do it because it was a lot of uncertainty.
- 5:18SPEAKER_02: A lot of things came with that.
- 5:20SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:21SPEAKER_02: And we wanted to have kids, and she was like, I don't, I don't know, I don't like feel comfortable with this.
- 5:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:27SPEAKER_02: I said, well, just trust me.
- 5:28SPEAKER_02: Like, let me give it a shot.
- 5:30SPEAKER_02: If it doesn't work out, I'll do something different.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: Did that motivate you, the fact that she was a little nervous and you wanted to kind of prove her wrong a little bit?
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: A little bit?
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: That's totally.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:39SPEAKER_01: Maybe she did that on purpose.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: Maybe.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:42SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 5:42SPEAKER_02: And you're probably the same way.
- 5:43SPEAKER_02: I feel like with a lot of guys, when like when we're needed, like we step up to the occasion.
- 5:49SPEAKER_02: Totally.
- 5:50SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 5:50SPEAKER_02: And when people think maybe we can't do something, like that motivates us even more to do it.
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: You know what's so funny?
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: Moving to Arizona, I told people I was moving to Arizona, I really don't think I was until everybody told me you weren't.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: And then I actually just went through with it just to prove people wrong when I was 19.
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: So I know exactly what you're speaking of.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: I'm exactly the same way.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: So kudos to you because if I'm not mistaken, no base salary, right?
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: Correct.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: And it's just straight commission.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: My whole life's been straight commission except waiting tables.
- 6:21SPEAKER_02: First couple years were like living on savings.
- 6:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:24SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 6:25SPEAKER_02: Um and you know, luckily my parents were here.
- 6:28SPEAKER_02: My mom kind of helped us with, hey, you know, some jump start areas here and there with the business.
- 6:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:34SPEAKER_02: Because she she had a successful agency.
- 6:36SPEAKER_02: So um but yeah, while while I was starting my agency, that was when we had our first daughter or our first child who's a girl.
- 6:44SPEAKER_02: Her name's Maya.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: That kicked it started too even more, right?
- 6:47SPEAKER_02: So there was not a lot of sleep, you know, between the business and raising this little girl.
- 6:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:54SPEAKER_02: So um it's it's really rewarding now to be able to come and do things like this with you guys and and not stress about working 24-7 and making sure that there's food on the table for the kids.
- 7:06SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 7:07SPEAKER_05: Yeah, right.
- 7:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:09SPEAKER_02: Super pumped to be here and thank you guys for being a huge part of it.
- 7:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:12SPEAKER_02: And trusting us with like with your guys' customers too.
- 7:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:15SPEAKER_02: That means the world.
- 7:16SPEAKER_02: So I really thank you guys.
- 7:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 7:18SPEAKER_04: But it it's cool because I was thinking about this today.
- 7:22SPEAKER_04: Like being I I I said I might have said this the last time we were we were talking, or maybe I was talking to someone, maybe my boyfriend.
- 7:30SPEAKER_04: But we uh I I remember like now being in my mid-40s, like or when I go back to my my mid-20s and early 30s, like I couldn't wait to be older to, and I swear I thought this because I think I was an old soul, my eyes like bugging out because of allergies, sorry.
- 7:51SPEAKER_04: But I couldn't wait to be surrounded by professional people like myself.
- 7:57SPEAKER_04: Like I know this sounds weird, but I just when I was young, I never felt like I was really respected in business.
- 8:05SPEAKER_04: I felt young.
- 8:06SPEAKER_04: I felt like I was kind of looked down at, like I wasn't there yet.
- 8:09SPEAKER_04: Why are you laughing at me?
- 8:10SPEAKER_04: Well, maybe because people knew you.
- 8:13SPEAKER_04: What?
- 8:14SPEAKER_04: Oh my God, you're fired.
- 8:16SPEAKER_04: I'm over this.
- 8:17SPEAKER_04: But now I think I reflect back now and I'm like, oh my gosh, I'm there.
- 8:23SPEAKER_04: Like I get to do business.
- 8:24SPEAKER_04: Like in my 30s, I wouldn't think that I would be doing a podcast and excited about having my insurance guy that do you know what I mean?
- 8:32SPEAKER_04: Like it's just cool as you get older, you get more confident and just I don't know, you find like people and you just you're able to elevate your businesses together.
- 8:41SPEAKER_04: I think it's cool.
- 8:42SPEAKER_01: The fact of the matter is when you get Did that make any sense?
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: So for you, did it make sense?
- 8:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 8:47SPEAKER_01: For you did it make sense, right?
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: In building your business, yeah.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: You'll use you were using people because you wanted to get business from them.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: Now you're at the stage of your life, you only work with people you like.
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: That's it.
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: So that's really like enjoyable to know that, oh, damn, something happened.
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: I need to call Justin.
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: It's cool that you actually look forward to calling you because you're a good guy.
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:08SPEAKER_04: Like he's a real person, right?
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: And what I love about your business is that it's an annuity, right?
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: That you can now could you pass that to your kids, like as far as your book of business?
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: And good question.
- 9:20SPEAKER_02: So, like, I could have my kids join my agency, yeah.
- 9:23SPEAKER_02: Um, as long as I'm alive, they they could work there for me.
- 9:28SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 9:28SPEAKER_02: So if they want to, will be another story.
- 9:30SPEAKER_02: We'll see.
- 9:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:31SPEAKER_02: I mean, the industry's changing a lot.
- 9:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it is.
- 9:33SPEAKER_02: It's tough.
- 9:34SPEAKER_02: All the self-driving cars and who knows what it'll be like in 20 years.
- 9:38SPEAKER_04: Now, how do you go into insurance?
- 9:40SPEAKER_04: How do you insure a self-driving car?
- 9:43SPEAKER_02: Good question.
- 9:44SPEAKER_02: So we don't do like the Waymo type ones because those are through like their commercial insurance.
- 9:51SPEAKER_02: But like a Tesla, it's just like a normal car.
- 9:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:54SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 9:55SPEAKER_02: And the rates are just like a normal driving car.
- 9:58SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 9:58SPEAKER_04: So it's nothing different, even though they have a mode that's self-driving.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: Just so you know, our friend Jerry that we had on the podcast has a self-driving mode, and it's 30 times better than the way he drives.
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: So it's probably shooting down insurance.
- 10:12SPEAKER_04: That's nice that you're saying 30, 100 times.
- 10:14SPEAKER_04: He is the worst driver ever.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: He'll be like, this is a good song, right?
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: I'm like, there's a tractor trailer at a stoplight.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: You have to stop.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: And it's like, yeah, and I'm like, this is I I can't do this anymore.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I tell his brother, and his brother's like, he's the worst driver.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: Everybody knows it.
- 10:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 10:30SPEAKER_04: Okay, so it's not different.
- 10:32SPEAKER_04: That's interesting.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:33SPEAKER_02: We'll have to see what happens over time.
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: It's it's a new area.
- 10:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: You need test cases, right?
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: To see exactly what the payouts and I would agree.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: They're less they're less likely to get in an accident than a normal person, right?
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: I would think so.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: Do you think so?
- 10:48SPEAKER_04: I would think so.
- 10:49SPEAKER_04: But then you're also on the road with crazy people.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: So it's how But it's but it don't forget it's it has so many cameras and it's always alert.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: It's you sometimes, right?
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: As good as a driver as you are.
- 11:00SPEAKER_04: There we go.
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: You're not the most alert person.
- 11:02SPEAKER_04: I mean fired again.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: You have the fax machine going, you have third level of a video game next to you.
- 11:08SPEAKER_04: I mean, I'm doing emails with my toes while I'm driving.
- 11:11SPEAKER_04: Actually, the best thing that I did, and I know you guys talked about self-driving cars, but I took Yeah, I took an Uber somewhere out.
- 11:21SPEAKER_04: Oh, to meet you, to meet you and sheer.
- 11:23SPEAKER_04: I took an Uber and I got so much done.
- 11:25SPEAKER_04: It was like a 12-minute drive, but I was like on the phone, I was typing eat, you know.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so then I need a self-driving.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: But didn't you put money down on the uh Tesla?
- 11:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the cyber taxi is coming out, right?
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: The next year, what a brilliant idea.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: You push your button and it goes into where it will drive, and you get a portion of the money that that thing brought in.
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it almost like you Uber it out, right?
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it should probably pay for itself.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: It's like such a brilliant idea.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: Why couldn't we come up with that, Justin?
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: No, seriously.
- 11:54SPEAKER_05: Seriously.
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: So you have your business, you have your children, and then before this podcast started, you said you went to bed late last night.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: What was the reason for that?
- 12:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so I'm in a men's D League hockey league.
- 12:10SPEAKER_04: So I could never imagine you playing hockey.
- 12:13SPEAKER_04: I don't know why.
- 12:14SPEAKER_04: So that is so cool.
- 12:16SPEAKER_02: You know, like sometimes I'll wake up in the middle of the night and I'll be like, oh man, I forgot to help that person today, or like I need to get that done tomorrow.
- 12:24SPEAKER_02: And the one thing that totally takes my mind off everything is hopping on that ice hockey rink with my flat.
- 12:32SPEAKER_04: So awesome.
- 12:33SPEAKER_02: And it's so fun.
- 12:34SPEAKER_02: So I played travel hockey until I was 17.
- 12:38SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 12:39SPEAKER_02: So I stopped.
- 12:40SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 12:41SPEAKER_02: Um, I started playing ice hockey again two years ago.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: Was that your only sport?
- 12:45unknown: Yeah.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: So you were only on hockey yet.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 12:48SPEAKER_02: So I started playing two years ago when I was 36.
- 12:51SPEAKER_02: So I took an 18-year break.
- 12:52SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 12:53SPEAKER_02: Got back into it.
- 12:54SPEAKER_02: I was terrible when I first started two years ago.
- 12:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 12:57SPEAKER_02: Like my mind wanted to do things that my body just couldn't do.
- 13:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:00SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 13:01SPEAKER_02: But finally, you know, with all the practice and everything, it's coming back and it's so much fun.
- 13:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:06SPEAKER_02: You know, just shooting it with the guys in the locker room.
- 13:08SPEAKER_02: That's so cool.
- 13:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:09SPEAKER_02: One of my buddies.
- 13:10SPEAKER_02: So there's like video cameras in the in the ice rink.
- 13:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:13SPEAKER_02: And he makes these like highlight clips, these highlight reels of our games.
- 13:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:18SPEAKER_02: Of like all the penalties and the codes.
- 13:20SPEAKER_02: Awesome.
- 13:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'll show you after.
- 13:22SPEAKER_02: It's really cool.
- 13:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:23SPEAKER_02: That's it's a good time.
- 13:24SPEAKER_02: Like I've made some really good friends doing it.
- 13:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:27SPEAKER_02: And I'm sure it's competitive.
- 13:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:29SPEAKER_02: Do you fight?
- 13:32SPEAKER_02: There's there's some fights here and there, but it's not like the pros.
- 13:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:34SPEAKER_02: We get kicked out for three games if we fight.
- 13:37SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 13:38SPEAKER_02: We're paying for it.
- 13:39SPEAKER_02: So like we don't want to petty and not get to play.
- 13:41SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 13:44SPEAKER_02: I can't play to sleep.
- 13:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 13:46SPEAKER_02: But it's a good time.
- 13:48SPEAKER_02: So like last night our game started at 10:30.
- 13:51SPEAKER_04: At night?
- 13:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:52SPEAKER_02: Wait, what?
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: Because they can't get ice time.
- 13:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's when the Who takes priority?
- 13:57SPEAKER_02: That's when the overweight, you know, old men.
- 13:59SPEAKER_03: Okay, so you guys are last year.
- 14:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, all the high schoolers, middle schoolers, like all the Japanese are good.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: Freeform skating for fun.
- 14:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:08SPEAKER_02: All the good guys get to go first.
- 14:10SPEAKER_02: So it was a late night.
- 14:12SPEAKER_02: I didn't get home till like 12 30.
- 14:16SPEAKER_04: Oh my gosh.
- 14:16SPEAKER_02: I was up till one o'clock, too.
- 14:18SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: But that's what's cool.
- 14:19SPEAKER_01: Like that's awesome.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: Like it's it's being competitive again.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: And it's also like the friendship that you have with the guys, right?
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: And it's also just coming out and like you love your family more than anything.
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: You could tell your face lights up when you speak about your family, but it's also nice that this is your time, right?
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: We all need that.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: And I think that's really cool.
- 14:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:42SPEAKER_02: We've done a couple tournaments, and like my my wife will bring our kids to come watch me play.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: When the games aren't too late.
- 14:51SPEAKER_02: We had an 8 30 game and the kids came to that.
- 14:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:54SPEAKER_02: And my son was getting into it.
- 14:55SPEAKER_02: He was like yelling.
- 14:56SPEAKER_02: He's only two and a half.
- 14:57SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 14:57SPEAKER_02: And he was like yelling.
- 14:58SPEAKER_02: Oh, that is so cool.
- 15:00SPEAKER_02: And so it's it's really cool to have them come and come and watch.
- 15:03SPEAKER_02: Do you think they'll get into it?
- 15:04SPEAKER_02: Do you think they they'll play?
- 15:05SPEAKER_02: They'll get on the road.
- 15:06SPEAKER_02: I'm getting my daughter into ice skating.
- 15:08SPEAKER_02: Cool.
- 15:08SPEAKER_02: So I like to take her to like the free skates.
- 15:10SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 15:11SPEAKER_02: But I think she's gonna be more of like a figure skater.
- 15:13SPEAKER_02: Because she goes out and she just wants to go dance.
- 15:17SPEAKER_05: Oh, that's right.
- 15:18SPEAKER_05: I love that.
- 15:19SPEAKER_02: She just like she'll be out there just like dancing on her ice skates, you know what I mean?
- 15:23SPEAKER_02: Like trying to do little twirls and stuff everything.
- 15:25SPEAKER_02: Um so I think she she might want to do figure skating.
- 15:28SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 15:28SPEAKER_02: But my son Kaiden, I could see him wanting to wanting to play hockey.
- 15:32SPEAKER_02: He's like, he's a hundred percent dude.
- 15:34SPEAKER_02: Like he runs up to walls and stuff, falls down, doesn't it?
- 15:37SPEAKER_02: Couldn't hurt my daughter, who's two years older.
- 15:39SPEAKER_02: He's just like full boars.
- 15:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:42SPEAKER_02: That's Sophia.
- 15:43SPEAKER_02: Yep, no kidding.
- 15:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's Michael's afraid of her.
- 15:45SPEAKER_02: She's nine, he's 14.
- 15:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:47SPEAKER_02: Totally afraid of her.
- 15:49SPEAKER_02: He's gotten huge too.
- 15:49SPEAKER_02: I've seen some videos.
- 15:51SPEAKER_02: He's grown like crazy the last couple years.
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: It goes.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: But you know what it is?
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: He's gonna be a freshman at Chaparrell.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: Now he's at 14.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: Now it's like, wait, hold on.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: Friends, wait, sports, family, friends.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: Wait, girls.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: And then girls start coming like over here.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 16:07SPEAKER_01: Then you could I now I'm in the gym.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: That's all he does.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: Gym.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: I'm locked in, dad.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: I'm locked in.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: And we're gonna have broccoli lifting.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna get 135 up.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: But he's like shredded right now.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: It's actually cool to see.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: Good for him.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: He actually motivated me to get in the gym, which is cool.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: He's like, Dad, when are you gonna get in the gym?
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I will, Mike.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: And honestly, it's been a year since I went back to the gym, like consistently.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: So I try to get three days a week, and it's actually my like alone time.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: Like I'll go in there.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: It's only 45 minutes to an hour, but it's like nice just to get it.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: That's why we were late today.
- 16:36SPEAKER_04: He was at the gym.
- 16:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 16:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it makes a big difference.
- 16:39SPEAKER_02: Like you got to take care of yourself mentally, you know what I mean?
- 16:42SPEAKER_02: And have a chance to reset.
- 16:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:44SPEAKER_02: You need an outlet.
- 16:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you need something like that.
- 16:46SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 16:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:47SPEAKER_04: Because especially like our business is we're consumed with it.
- 16:50SPEAKER_04: It's not, we're we're not nine to five clocking out, and you could actually just come home and and be home and be engaged with the family.
- 16:57SPEAKER_04: Like it's constant.
- 16:58SPEAKER_04: So that's I need something.
- 16:59SPEAKER_02: It's good to force yourself to take a break.
- 17:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:01SPEAKER_04: Maybe I'll get into hockey with you.
- 17:03SPEAKER_04: There you go.
- 17:03SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 17:04SPEAKER_04: Can I join the men's league?
- 17:05SPEAKER_04: Why don't we do like a softball league?
- 17:07SPEAKER_04: I don't want to play softball.
- 17:08SPEAKER_04: Why?
- 17:09SPEAKER_04: Not with you.
- 17:09SPEAKER_04: Too much pressure.
- 17:10SPEAKER_04: I just think you'll be mean to me.
- 17:12unknown: I won't.
- 17:13SPEAKER_01: You know what's so funny?
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: We only had one experience in our in our relationship of playing a sport, and it was in uh Cabo.
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: And it was like a president's club trip, and we played volleyball together, right?
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:26SPEAKER_01: I become like a maniac ultra competitive.
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: And a couple times, like she missed the ball here and there, but she was in front of me.
- 17:32SPEAKER_04: So when it got deep in the door, I missed the ball probably once.
- 17:36SPEAKER_04: And he was annoyed.
- 17:38SPEAKER_04: What is wrong with you?
- 17:41SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 17:41SPEAKER_04: I'm sorry.
- 17:41SPEAKER_04: And then I got really nervous.
- 17:43SPEAKER_04: Like I felt like I was I was very pressured.
- 17:46SPEAKER_04: And then what happens?
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: Like balls there, and I'm like, she's definitely not getting to this, right?
- 17:51SPEAKER_04: I saw the shot.
- 17:52SPEAKER_04: I had the shot.
- 17:54SPEAKER_04: He literally went in front of me and slammed it and threw me on the ground.
- 18:00SPEAKER_04: Jason, that's exactly if that's how it happened.
- 18:03SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's exactly how it happened.
- 18:05SPEAKER_04: Threw me on the ground.
- 18:06SPEAKER_04: Everyone's like, whoa, bro.
- 18:07SPEAKER_04: And he's like, she's fine.
- 18:09SPEAKER_04: That definitely didn't happen.
- 18:10SPEAKER_04: I was spitting out sand.
- 18:11SPEAKER_04: I was mortified.
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: She had she lost her teeth.
- 18:13SPEAKER_01: We just put her new hair.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: The best part of that.
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: Do you remember the funniest part of that whole day?
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: No.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: So the night before we were out drinking, and I'm like, oh my God, Jess, if you tip these guys, like, don't get you anything you want.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: I'm like, here's 300.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: Kill the guy in room 327.
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: And he's like, where?
- 18:31SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I'm just kidding, dude.
- 18:33SPEAKER_01: That next day, I'm playing volleyball and I break my toe.
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: And they're like, you got to go see the medic.
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: I get there, it was the guy that was serving me drinks.
- 18:42SPEAKER_01: I'm like, hold on one second here.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: My toe's purple.
- 18:45SPEAKER_00: You bandaged my calf.
- 18:47SPEAKER_00: Like, what is going on?
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: You were the guy serving me drinks.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: How are you a proper medic?
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: Like, so my toe sideways.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: Do you remember that?
- 18:53SPEAKER_00: God, yes, that was great.
- 18:55SPEAKER_04: How did we get on that topic?
- 18:56SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 18:57SPEAKER_02: But go ahead.
- 18:58SPEAKER_04: Oh, because I want to play hockey.
- 18:59SPEAKER_04: And then you went to volleyball.
- 19:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's a lot to get into hockey.
- 19:04SPEAKER_02: I think it's too much.
- 19:05SPEAKER_04: I've probably skated once.
- 19:07SPEAKER_04: I need another outlet.
- 19:08SPEAKER_02: I'll figure that out for myself.
- 19:09SPEAKER_02: You got options.
- 19:10SPEAKER_04: That's great.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: So what is how long do you think you'll play for?
- 19:14SPEAKER_01: I think you got it too much.
- 19:15SPEAKER_01: How long can you play for?
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: I mean, so you don't want to.
- 19:17SPEAKER_02: I mean, there's there's there are guys out there playing that are there's a guy that used to play in the NHL that plays on like the Sunday practice in Gilbert.
- 19:27SPEAKER_02: And he's probably like 70.
- 19:30SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 19:31SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 19:32SPEAKER_02: That's sick.
- 19:33SPEAKER_02: And is he good?
- 19:34SPEAKER_02: He's still good.
- 19:35SPEAKER_02: That's awesome.
- 19:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like he's not the fastest, but he's still like he had but he can handle.
- 19:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:40SPEAKER_02: He holds his own.
- 19:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:41SPEAKER_01: That's sick.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: That's pretty cool.
- 19:43SPEAKER_01: I would have never thought that.
- 19:44SPEAKER_04: Especially hockey.
- 19:45SPEAKER_04: Like, I understand golf.
- 19:46SPEAKER_04: Like, that's not that doesn't take much, but hockey.
- 19:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 19:49SPEAKER_04: I'd be really nervous if you were seven years old getting on a rank, even walking.
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:54SPEAKER_02: Like old team USA won the Olympics.
- 19:57SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 19:57SPEAKER_02: Like you were pumped for that.
- 19:59SPEAKER_02: So like that brought a lot of energy, I think.
- 20:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:01SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 20:02SPEAKER_02: To the leagues.
- 20:03SPEAKER_02: So that's so cool.
- 20:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:05SPEAKER_01: Do you think that's the best goalie that you've ever seen?
- 20:07SPEAKER_02: Oh, that was the best.
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that was the best goalie.
- 20:09SPEAKER_01: That was the most insane thing I've ever seen.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: By far.
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: Because they were a way better team.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: Oh, yes.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: It's not even close.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: They play that 10 times, they probably lose seven.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 20:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:19SPEAKER_02: It was the whole like miracle in ice cream.
- 20:21SPEAKER_02: It was awesome.
- 20:22SPEAKER_04: That's so cool.
- 20:22SPEAKER_02: It was pretty cool.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: Because USA hasn't won it for forever.
- 20:27SPEAKER_02: 40 years, something like that?
- 20:28SPEAKER_02: Since it's long?
- 20:30SPEAKER_02: Oh well, I don't know.
- 20:31SPEAKER_02: There's something like that, yeah.
- 20:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 20:33SPEAKER_04: That's awesome.
- 20:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:34SPEAKER_02: Sorry, what were you were you asking before?
- 20:36SPEAKER_02: Have you ever do you golf or play any other sports?
- 20:38SPEAKER_02: I like to golf, yeah.
- 20:39SPEAKER_02: It's funny.
- 20:40SPEAKER_02: So I play hockey left-handed and I golf right-handed.
- 20:42SPEAKER_02: How did that how did you do that?
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: I don't know how.
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: You found the set of righties?
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: Well, that's just what I started with with golf, yeah.
- 20:48SPEAKER_02: That's interesting.
- 20:49SPEAKER_02: So I do them totally opposite.
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: That's really interesting.
- 20:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:52SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 20:52SPEAKER_02: I like I like to golf once in a while, though.
- 20:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:54SPEAKER_02: My brother's really good at golf, and his best friend works at Ping.
- 20:58SPEAKER_02: Oh, so that's cool.
- 20:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:59SPEAKER_02: So like they're always out golfing and trying new clubs and stuff.
- 21:03SPEAKER_02: And I can't hang with those guys.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: But they're they're still fun to be around.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: That's that's so cool.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: I still can't get over the guy that plays in his 70s.
- 21:11SPEAKER_01: That's amazing.
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:13SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 21:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's pretty cool.
- 21:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 21:15SPEAKER_04: Can we talk about insurance real quick or is that boring?
- 21:18SPEAKER_02: Whatever you guys want to.
- 21:20SPEAKER_04: Because I want to talk about insurance.
- 21:21SPEAKER_04: Okay, what do you want to talk about?
- 21:22SPEAKER_04: I'm really excited.
- 21:23SPEAKER_04: Can you explain?
- 21:24SPEAKER_04: Because I try to tell my friend, like my kids think they're going to be loaded.
- 21:28SPEAKER_04: Well, I think they're yeah, think they're going to be loaded because I have a couple policies for them.
- 21:33unknown: Okay.
- 21:34SPEAKER_04: Can you explain why that's beneficial for parents to get for their kids at a young age?
- 21:40SPEAKER_04: Sure.
- 21:41SPEAKER_02: So what you have for your kids is what I have for my kids.
- 21:46SPEAKER_02: And um it's a permanent policy for them that we parents can pay off for them in like 20 years, which is what you and I are both doing.
- 21:57SPEAKER_02: So we can take care of it while we're still working.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: And pump some money into it.
- 22:01SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 22:02SPEAKER_02: Uh, and let it start to grow and earn dividends and things like that.
- 22:05SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 22:06SPEAKER_02: Um, if they're gonna be loaded from it, like, you know, that's not really the purpose of it.
- 22:11SPEAKER_00: Um that's what I tell them.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: But he's such a nice guy.
- 22:17SPEAKER_02: The reason it's important and like why I encourage you to think about it and why I do it for my kids is because like we talked about at the beginning, most parents reach a stage at some point where they're struggling financially, especially when they first have kids.
- 22:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:34SPEAKER_02: And when your kids get to that age, if they want to have kids, this will be something that mom and dad paid off for them.
- 22:43SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 22:43SPEAKER_02: To help them know that they've got coverage in place to take care of their family, right?
- 22:49SPEAKER_02: If something happens to them.
- 22:50SPEAKER_02: Right, right.
- 22:51SPEAKER_02: So it's really for you guys to kind of help protect that next generation after them, right?
- 22:59SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 22:59SPEAKER_02: And if you guys aren't around and something happens to your kids, that's a gift from grandma and grandpa.
- 23:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:06SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 23:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:07SPEAKER_02: And that's why I love it.
- 23:08SPEAKER_02: It's some it's really inexpensive, it's easy for you guys to do.
- 23:11SPEAKER_02: And it just it's that peace of mind for your kids and for their family at a time they might not be able to do something for themselves.
- 23:19SPEAKER_04: And they have that policy for a lot.
- 23:21SPEAKER_04: I mean, that's that's their policy.
- 23:22SPEAKER_04: And they got it at such a because they were so young, they got a crazy deal on it, right?
- 23:28SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 23:28SPEAKER_04: Could they take money against that?
- 23:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:30SPEAKER_02: So it they earn cash value.
- 23:32SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 23:32SPEAKER_02: And so, like if an emergency comes up and they need to get some money out of it, they can take a loan against it at any point in time.
- 23:40SPEAKER_02: Doesn't affect their credit, yeah.
- 23:41SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 23:41SPEAKER_02: Their their own bank essentially, yeah.
- 23:44SPEAKER_02: And use it for whatever they need to.
- 23:45SPEAKER_02: Maybe your son wants to start a restaurant.
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:48SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 23:49SPEAKER_02: And he would have some money there to get things going if he wanted to.
- 23:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:53SPEAKER_02: Um, so it it can be used for a lot of different things.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: And when you pay it back, are you paying yourself back the interest?
- 23:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's like a 401k loan then.
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 24:02SPEAKER_02: It's just like that.
- 24:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:03SPEAKER_02: Interesting.
- 24:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
