- 0:30Speaker 4: you come out you say kfi aim 640 more stimulating
- 0:34Speaker 4: talk radio and it just such an honor to be on.
- 0:38Speaker 2: This microphone the history of the station the people that
- 0:41Speaker 2: are not that haven't only come before but are here
- 0:44Speaker 2: now um pretty amazing pinch me if you will neil
- 0:49Speaker 2: savadra in the morning crew today. Hey, Clay, how you doing, pal?
- 0:54Speaker 5: I'm doing good. Something I'm wearing smells crazy. I think
- 0:59Speaker 5: it's my pants. I think I left them in the
- 1:01Speaker 5: washing machine too long.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Oh, and then you didn't dry them so they're a
- 1:05Speaker 2: little mildewy?
- 1:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I think so.
- 1:07Speaker 6: Oh, I hate that moldy smell.
- 1:08Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:08Speaker 5: I'm waking up at four. There's no time to smell
- 1:10Speaker 5: what I'm wearing before I head out the door. And
- 1:13Speaker 5: so it gets you on the back end.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, I got in my car. I went, oh, no.
- 1:19Speaker 6: And it was too late to turn around.
- 1:21Speaker 3: Way too late.
- 1:22Speaker 2: I'm sorry, Clay. That happens to the best of us, sir.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Especially during the hot months.
- 1:27Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, it's tough when you're in a hermetically sealed
- 1:34Speaker 2: environment and the door shuts and you go, is that me?
- 1:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Oh, well, who else could it be? Yeah, there's the
- 1:44Speaker 2: old saying that if you're in an elevator with one
- 1:46Speaker 2: other person and someone passes gas, both of you know
- 1:49Speaker 2: who did it. Yeah, so if it's just you in
- 1:52Speaker 2: there and the door is shut, sorry, pal, but it happens.
- 1:56Speaker 2: No one's judging you.
- 1:57Speaker 3: You know, I get out of here before anybody else
- 1:59Speaker 3: comes into the office.
- 2:00Speaker 5: So it's going to be a speedy exit.
- 2:04Speaker 2: I give it three days before. So early next week,
- 2:08Speaker 2: someone's going to go, hey, we're Stinky Clay. Stinky. I'm sorry, man.
- 2:13Speaker 2: The nicknames fly around.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Keep putting those on me.
- 2:16Speaker 7: I just want to let you know, I didn't smell
- 2:18Speaker 7: anything when I was in there with you.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Well, I appreciate that, Anne.
- 2:21Speaker 7: So I had to go in there and take some
- 2:22Speaker 7: phone calls.
- 2:23Speaker 2: And she's a mom.
- 2:24Speaker 7: And I sat down like, what, 12 inches away from you.
- 2:27Speaker 3: We were back to back.
- 2:28Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Oh, that's the word. That's one of my, my like
- 2:34Speaker 2: least favorite stinks. Yeah. When you, when you go, Oh,
- 2:37Speaker 2: I didn't turn on the dryer and it's a nice
- 2:39Speaker 2: warm day. And it's not even a controlled stink. Yeah.
- 2:44Speaker 3: You smell, you smell your own armpits. You're like, well,
- 2:46Speaker 3: I know how to remedy that.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:48Speaker 2: But you know what's even worse? Pants, fine, brother. You're
- 2:50Speaker 2: going to walk in, you walk out. You know what's
- 2:52Speaker 2: worse is when it's on your towels. And you put
- 2:55Speaker 2: the towels in and you go to wash your hands
- 2:57Speaker 2: and you're like, why do my hands smell mildewy?
- 3:01Speaker 3: It's the worst.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Look at us being relatable.
- 3:04Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Just normal people.
- 3:06Speaker 3: Yeah, call in if you smell bad.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Yeah, Kono tried to make me bougie yesterday. Yeah, he
- 3:12Speaker 2: tried to make me out to sound. And then you
- 3:14Speaker 2: can't really back out of it and you can't find
- 3:16Speaker 2: your footing.
- 3:18Speaker 3: I don't have enough money to smell good.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Yeah, you smell good. And you come in with that punim.
- 3:24Speaker 2: You come in here with that beautiful face and a smile. Neil. What? Stop.
- 3:31Speaker 2: You humor me, kid. You humor me. Will, how are you, sir?
- 3:35Speaker 2: Not stinky. Not stinky. Good to know. I'm fully showered
- 3:39Speaker 2: and deodorized and yeah, I'm good to go. Hey, are
- 3:42Speaker 2: you good? I'm broadcasting from TTWN on Monday. Yes. You
- 3:47Speaker 2: going to join me? Are you coming in here for
- 3:48Speaker 2: Amy King? Only one of us can be there at
- 3:50Speaker 2: one time. Oh, is that? There's like one line, one
- 3:54Speaker 2: line only. Oh, gotcha. Yeah. By the way, I'm going
- 3:58Speaker 2: to be out at Aquarium of the Pacific, which is
- 4:00Speaker 2: why I'm broadcasting out in Long Beach on Monday. Handel
- 4:05Speaker 2: will still be out. I'll still be doing the show,
- 4:07Speaker 2: but I'm going to hang out with my people, 50
- 4:10Speaker 2: and older. They're doing an event out there from like
- 4:14Speaker 2: nine to two or something like that. And we're going
- 4:17Speaker 2: to be doing some giveaways, um, But it's going to
- 4:22Speaker 2: be good fun. I jumped at that. It's one of
- 4:24Speaker 2: those gems that we have here in the Southland, and
- 4:27Speaker 2: it's gorgeous. And so if you're in the area, you
- 4:31Speaker 2: check it out at their website. I'm going to be
- 4:33Speaker 2: at Aquarium of the Pacific from about 930 to 2.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Just saying hello, being in a booth, just sitting there.
- 4:40Speaker 7: Is there a new fish there or something?
- 4:42Speaker 2: No, there's some event for seasoned citizens. So those of
- 4:48Speaker 2: us over 50. So I'm going to be hanging out.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Why are you looking at me like that? Oh, young
- 4:53Speaker 2: Anne is sitting there mocking me. Oh, what's that like?
- 4:56Speaker 7: Yeah, that's what I'm doing.
- 4:58Speaker 2: She's going, hello, are you going to go?
- 5:00Speaker 3: Maybe try a stingray for the fork report.
- 5:03Speaker 2: You know, I would tell you that if someone asked
- 5:06Speaker 2: me to age Anne or Amy with a gun to
- 5:10Speaker 2: my head, I'd be dead. I don't think I could
- 5:13Speaker 2: deal either of your ages. I'd be dead.
- 5:17Speaker 6: It's the annual Senior's Day at the Aquarium of the Pacific.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Oh, the old lady knows.
- 5:25Speaker 6: Special presentations, informational booths.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:29Speaker 6: Access to view marine life exhibits like sea otters, sharks, penguins,
- 5:33Speaker 6: and jellyfish. I love the jellies.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a cool opportunity. They asked me if I
- 5:37Speaker 2: wanted to go. I'm like, I'm in.
- 5:38Speaker 6: That sounds fun.
- 5:39Speaker 2: I will tell you that... Our seasoned citizens, I mean,
- 5:44Speaker 2: I bust handfuls chops because we're like brothers, but we
- 5:52Speaker 2: underutilize our seasoned citizens personally. I think the knowledge, the history,
- 5:58Speaker 2: the information, the understanding, those are my people. So I'm
- 6:04Speaker 2: looking forward.
- 6:05Speaker 6: I like that, seasoned citizens.
- 6:06Speaker 2: That's a Rush Limbaugh saying.
- 6:08Speaker 4: Really?
- 6:08Speaker 6: I'd never heard it before.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Our seasoned citizens, ta-da-da, ta-da-da, ta-da-da. And, yeah, so I'm
- 6:15Speaker 2: looking very much forward to that. What was it called again, Amy?
- 6:20Speaker 6: Annual Seniors Day.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Seniors Day, yes.
- 6:22Speaker 6: We'll call it Seasoned Day.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Seasoned Citizens. Well, you know, I just didn't... I don't know.
- 6:28Speaker 2: I used to have my dad on when I was
- 6:30Speaker 2: on Sundays, and I did Sunday nights at KFI. And
- 6:34Speaker 2: I'd have my dad on, ask the old guy. Oh,
- 6:39Speaker 2: I loved having my dad on. And someone asked him
- 6:46Speaker 2: about the Civil War or something. He's like, what the
- 6:48Speaker 2: hell's the matter with you? God rest his soul. Miss
- 6:52Speaker 2: my pops. All righty. We've got Anne. How you doing, Anne?
- 6:57Speaker 7: I'm doing great. Yeah.
- 6:58Speaker 2: You came in with a big smile today.
- 7:00Speaker 3: I did.
- 7:01Speaker 2: It's Friday and you feeling it?
- 7:02Speaker 6: Yeah. And she was hanging out at the Bruno Mars concert.
- 7:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 7:06Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 7:06Speaker 2: She had a late night, not last night, but the
- 7:09Speaker 2: night before.
- 7:09Speaker 7: It was so good.
- 7:10Speaker 6: And there's more concerts coming up, right? Yep.
- 7:13Speaker 7: Tonight, tomorrow, next Tuesday and Wednesday.
- 7:16Speaker 6: I mean, how do you go wrong with like five
- 7:18Speaker 6: days of Bruno Mars?
- 7:19Speaker 7: You can't.
- 7:19Speaker 2: You can't.
- 7:20Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 7:20Speaker 2: That's a talented package right there. That guy is.
- 7:24Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 7:24Speaker 7: A little dance party. That's for sure.
- 7:27Speaker 2: And Anne was telling me that she came home and
- 7:29Speaker 2: her daughter had started putting up some Halloween decorations. And
- 7:32Speaker 2: I'm like, I fully support that. I am so thrilled
- 7:36Speaker 2: for you. I have like one thing out so far.
- 7:40Speaker 2: But our house is kind of Halloween-y around on the inside. Yeah,
- 7:44Speaker 2: we like some weird crap.
- 7:45Speaker 7: Yeah, she was hanging chains up.
- 7:47Speaker 2: That's awesome. I just love that. Amy King, good morning
- 7:52Speaker 2: to you. You getting ready for the holiday? Oh, look
- 7:55Speaker 2: at you with the Disneyland and the bats on your shirt.
- 7:58Speaker 5: Yep.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Look it, you are ready.
- 8:00Speaker 6: It's because we gave away tickets to Disneyland today on
- 8:03Speaker 6: Wake Up Call.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Yes.
- 8:04Speaker 6: Rumor has it you'll be giving some away as well.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Absolutely. Because Amy and I like to spread the joy.
- 8:10Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 8:11Speaker 2: It's like we're proselytizing Disney at all times.
- 8:14Speaker 6: Halloween time at Disneyland is so great.
- 8:16Speaker 2: I was with a buddy of mine this week who
- 8:20Speaker 2: had never been. He grew up in London, never been
- 8:24Speaker 2: to Disneyland. He's lived out here for a long time.
- 8:28Speaker 2: I'm like, I'm taking you to Disneyland. We're going. I'm
- 8:32Speaker 2: going to force feed you the house of the mouse.
- 8:35Speaker 2: All right. Neil Spader in the morning crew handle on
- 8:38Speaker 2: the news lead story. There are heroes, there are good people,
- 8:47Speaker 2: and God bless them. Smit, do you have a read
- 8:52Speaker 2: for his last name, Amy?
- 8:53Speaker 6: I do. It's Smit Machar.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Smit Machar. Yes.
- 9:01Speaker 6: He's an Indian pilot.
- 9:04Speaker 2: And he is the captain who fought off the savage attack.
- 9:09Speaker 2: uh kept fighting because he could not let everyone else
- 9:13Speaker 2: die that is the prime directive right uh he said
- 9:18Speaker 2: in his first public remarks uh since the suspected hijacking
- 9:21Speaker 2: attempt of course they're getting all this information is going
- 9:24Speaker 2: to continue to come out throwing the word terrorism on
- 9:29Speaker 2: something is a big deal obviously and so they want
- 9:32Speaker 2: to dot their eyes and cross their t's uh and
- 9:35Speaker 2: he said in that moment i was fighting for my life.
- 9:37Speaker 6: He was because he As he's sitting there, he's down
- 9:40Speaker 6: on the floor and he said, I'm still being attacked
- 9:44Speaker 6: because he was stabbed several times. Wow. And he still
- 9:50Speaker 6: was able to get up and open the cockpit door,
- 9:53Speaker 6: which let other people in.
- 9:54Speaker 2: We were talking about the adrenaline, like what goes through
- 9:57Speaker 2: your body and and if you're just being stabbed, my
- 10:04Speaker 2: understanding is, uh, like, uh, sharp pain, sharp, but also
- 10:13Speaker 2: a hot pain, uh, like heat. Don't ask me how
- 10:19Speaker 2: I know, but that would, could you imagine, and the
- 10:22Speaker 2: amount of adrenaline going through you at that particular time,
- 10:26Speaker 2: but the people that overcome those things in the moment
- 10:33Speaker 2: and the people that came to aid were absolutely fabulous.
- 10:38Speaker 2: I'm in a good mood, feeling creative, enjoying being with
- 10:43Speaker 2: good people this morning. I love seeing all their faces
- 10:46Speaker 2: in person. And hanging out. And, you know, former producer Michelle,
- 10:53Speaker 2: current executive producer of KFI, Michelle, is such a mom.
- 11:02Speaker 2: She always takes care of us. Don't you always feel
- 11:04Speaker 2: like when she's around, like... I feel safe. Yeah, right?
- 11:08Speaker 2: Like if I skin my knee, that I can go
- 11:12Speaker 2: to her and say, I got a boo-boo and she's
- 11:14Speaker 2: going to take care of it.
- 11:16Speaker 6: Oh, she's absolutely the person you would go to for
- 11:18Speaker 6: a skinned knee.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:19Speaker 2: And so she brought, she brought some food for us
- 11:22Speaker 2: this morning and she pre-thinks, which is a great for
- 11:28Speaker 2: a producer, but you don't have to ask. It's done.
- 11:31Speaker 2: I got you.
- 11:32Speaker 6: Thank you, Michelle.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Yes. Thank you, Michelle. God bless you. And she's going
- 11:36Speaker 2: to make us rich one day.
- 11:38Speaker 6: That's right, because she heads up our lottery pool.
- 11:41Speaker 2: I'm out of that lottery pool.
- 11:42Speaker 6: I don't think we've ever won more than, what, $ 20?
- 11:45Speaker 2: Oh, no. I think there's been bigger wins, like $ 100
- 11:48Speaker 2: or something, but it all rolls over into it, right?
- 11:51Speaker 2: Or just under $ 100.
- 11:52Speaker 6: Yeah, until we hit the big one.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Well, that's the whole point. Yeah, and then everybody's going
- 11:56Speaker 2: to leave. I'd still work.
- 11:59Speaker 6: Sure you would.
- 12:00Speaker 2: I like working.
- 12:01Speaker 6: Well, aren't there like 70 people in the pool now?
- 12:04Speaker 6: We'd have to keep working.
- 12:06Speaker 2: I like work. I'm not going to retire. I will
- 12:08Speaker 2: retire from radio one day, maybe sooner than I think.
- 12:11Speaker 2: But I like working. I like learning. Don't you? You
- 12:18Speaker 2: like learning, Amy K.
- 12:19Speaker 1: King. Sure.
- 12:22Speaker 2: She's like visions of– no.
- 12:26Speaker 6: Honestly, this is my dream job. I'm a total news junkie.
- 12:30Speaker 6: Me too.
- 12:31Speaker 2: It's an honor to be here every day I walk
- 12:33Speaker 2: in this place. I would go maybe work at Disneyland though.
- 12:37Speaker 6: I think that would be hard. Yeah, but I have
- 12:40Speaker 6: to be friendly to all those people all the time.
- 12:42Speaker 2: I like people in those contexts. I like people. I
- 12:45Speaker 2: don't like mean people, but I actually I like problem
- 12:49Speaker 2: solving for people that are upset. I used that's what
- 12:51Speaker 2: I miss out of retail. I loved solving problems for
- 12:55Speaker 2: people came up like they would when I did retail
- 12:59Speaker 2: and stuff like that. People would go get Neil because
- 13:02Speaker 2: I want you to leave happy. All right, back to
- 13:06Speaker 2: handle on the news we go. Amy King. Did that
- 13:12Speaker 2: last story? See how I saved that there?
- 13:15Speaker 7: No, I think it's my turn.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Is it again?
- 13:17Speaker 7: Well, yeah.
- 13:19Speaker 6: You just heard me talk about it in my news.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Oh, gotcha. Go ahead.
- 13:23Speaker 6: The fifth person has been found. The body of a
- 13:26Speaker 6: third victim killed in a helicopter crash off Santa Catalina
- 13:31Speaker 6: Island has been recovered. You remember the... Medevac helicopter went
- 13:36Speaker 6: down on Wednesday night. It had just taken off from
- 13:38Speaker 6: Catalina Island and it crashed into the water. A pilot
- 13:43Speaker 6: and a nurse were killed. Two people were recovered, but
- 13:46Speaker 6: there was a fifth person that they hadn't found. They
- 13:49Speaker 6: were able to find her yesterday in the wreckage.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Is she the one that was being taken to the hospital?
- 13:58Speaker 6: Yeah, she was the one who was being medevaced off
- 14:01Speaker 6: of the island. She lived on Avalon or in Avalon.
- 14:05Speaker 6: And was being taken to the hospital because she had
- 14:07Speaker 6: an allergic reaction to some shrimp, apparently.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Oh, no.
- 14:11Speaker 6: Her son was also on board. He survived.
- 14:14Speaker 4: Oh, no.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Yeah. It's horrible. That is horrible. God wants you home
- 14:21Speaker 2: at that point. I mean, that really is rough. Third
- 14:26Speaker 2: aircraft carrier, thousands of troops head to Mideast as Trump
- 14:30Speaker 2: weighs new Iran strikes. So you've got the U.S. military
- 14:34Speaker 2: dispatching about 9,000 troops. And they're aboard a group of
- 14:40Speaker 2: ships going to the Middle East yesterday. Bolstering the American
- 14:45Speaker 2: military presence is obviously President Donald Trump's way of warning
- 14:50Speaker 2: a new strike might be imminent. So saber rattling, we
- 14:59Speaker 2: don't know at this point. But, you know, he pushes forward.
- 15:04Speaker 2: There is a method to his madness, I have to imagine.
- 15:09Speaker 2: You know, that he does loosen the cap, you know?
- 15:16Speaker 2: You sit there playing with it and muscling it, and
- 15:19Speaker 2: then everyone– all of a sudden doesn't think about it anymore.
- 15:24Speaker 2: And then it slowly loosens. So that is my hope
- 15:27Speaker 2: is that we don't go to more bombs.
- 15:30Speaker 6: This one was botched big time. Krista Pike is still alive.
- 15:35Speaker 6: She survived her execution by lethal injection. This is in Tennessee.
- 15:41Speaker 6: She was scheduled to be the first woman in 200
- 15:43Speaker 6: years to be executed, but she's now in critical condition
- 15:46Speaker 6: and receiving life-saving medical care. She survived two doses of
- 15:52Speaker 6: a drug meant to kill her on Wednesday night before
- 15:54Speaker 6: they suspended the execution and instead took her to the hospital.
- 16:03Speaker 6: I know.
- 16:03Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 16:06Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Dr. Jim Keeney is going to join us at 730,
- 16:10Speaker 2: talk about that a little later, about the cocktail, the
- 16:13Speaker 2: drug cocktail and the like. So we'll get some more
- 16:15Speaker 2: information from a doctor coming up a little later. New
- 16:18Speaker 2: York Attorney General brought in by governor after recent questions
- 16:23Speaker 2: raised over university 2020, university's 2024 investigation. So Leticia James
- 16:31Speaker 2: is now appointed special prosecutor in this alleged gang rape
- 16:34Speaker 2: that took place at Cornell University. The young woman at
- 16:38Speaker 2: the center of this case deserves to know that every
- 16:43Speaker 2: fact will be examined and justice pursued, so says Kathy Hochul,
- 16:48Speaker 2: the New York governor.
- 16:52Speaker 6: Still potentially on the hook, the judge in the Lindsay
- 16:56Speaker 6: Clancy murder case has refused to declare her not guilty,
- 17:01Speaker 6: which was what the defense asked the judge to do, saying,
- 17:06Speaker 6: There wasn't enough evidence to prove that she actually was
- 17:08Speaker 6: responsible for killing her three children. During Clancy's first trial,
- 17:12Speaker 6: which ended September 4th, it was deadlocked. And so there
- 17:18Speaker 6: was a mistrial declared. And, of course, Lindsay Clancy is
- 17:21Speaker 6: the person. She hasn't said she did not kill her
- 17:24Speaker 6: three children, but did say that she was suffering from
- 17:27Speaker 6: postpartum psychosis.
- 17:29Speaker 2: You can't have it both ways. You had an attorney
- 17:33Speaker 2: arguing about that psychosis. And then you're going to come
- 17:36Speaker 2: back and say, she didn't, she never said she did it.
- 17:39Speaker 2: When we've all had, I mean, much of, many of
- 17:42Speaker 2: us have had compassion going. We don't know what goes
- 17:46Speaker 2: through your, your head or your hormones or anything that's
- 17:50Speaker 2: going on there. And you want to be compassionate, but
- 17:52Speaker 2: didn't this play by the attorney have the opposite reaction?
- 17:58Speaker 2: It made me go, F you. You know, it, it, she,
- 18:03Speaker 2: she did this to her children. And we collectively can
- 18:10Speaker 2: look at this and say there might be mitigating circumstances.
- 18:15Speaker 2: And as humans, we should look at that. She's not
- 18:17Speaker 2: a threat to us. I don't believe she's a threat
- 18:19Speaker 2: to the community. But she doesn't deserve to walk free either.
- 18:23Speaker 2: And so that play just leaves a bad taste in
- 18:27Speaker 2: my mouth where it's like, why do that?
- 18:30Speaker 6: Yeah, it felt like a Hail Mary.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Yeah, and it just seemed so dirty. If you want
- 18:35Speaker 2: us to have the compassion to look at her and say, hey,
- 18:37Speaker 2: she's going through something we can't understand. I get that.
- 18:40Speaker 2: That's the only way you're going to get any compassion
- 18:42Speaker 2: for me when you take the life of children. And
- 18:48Speaker 2: that's one thing. And then you go, oh, yeah, but
- 18:49Speaker 2: she never said. And then you go to the technicality.
- 18:51Speaker 2: You go, now you made it just dirty and ugly
- 18:54Speaker 2: and stupid and, I don't know, dishonest. And there's no
- 18:59Speaker 2: intellectual integrity there. Hey, Will, how's that traffic out there
- 19:03Speaker 2: on this lovely Friday morning?
- 19:05Speaker 4: You know, it has been, it has been fairly light today,
- 19:08Speaker 4: but I just saw a live shot.
- 19:10Speaker 2: It's really, really foggy at the beaches. Like, like pea soup.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Oh, wow.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:16Speaker 6: Okay.
- 19:17Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Keep that in mind, people. All right. Back to handle
- 19:21Speaker 2: on the news, Neil Saavedra and the morning crew here,
- 19:23Speaker 2: Amy and I get back into it. Uh, I heard
- 19:28Speaker 2: you talking about this, Amy, this morning, listening to Wake
- 19:32Speaker 2: Up Call, about that fatal shooting that occurred yesterday in
- 19:36Speaker 2: Mar Vista on the bus. Witnesses say a man with
- 19:40Speaker 2: a head wound was taken off a Culver City bus
- 19:43Speaker 2: following a shooting. Multiple bullets were filed, fired in the incident.
- 19:48Speaker 2: And a man in his forties was killed. And the
- 19:54Speaker 2: gunman is still out and about. Was, was it, I'm
- 20:00Speaker 2: going through this right now. Was it, was it the
- 20:03Speaker 2: driver that was killed or just somebody? That's what I thought. Um,
- 20:10Speaker 2: That's horrible. Yeah.
- 20:11Speaker 6: And the guy, apparently there was bad directions were given
- 20:15Speaker 6: or something to that effect. And the driver was shot.
- 20:20Speaker 6: And then the guy got off the bus, got onto
- 20:23Speaker 6: a bike and took off.
- 20:24Speaker 2: But yeah. And the bike was on the front. You
- 20:29Speaker 2: know how they attach the bikes? If you're taking the bus,
- 20:32Speaker 2: you put it on the front grill and then you
- 20:34Speaker 2: get in there. But I don't understand. Why would you
- 20:36Speaker 2: be giving directions to a bus driver? They go to
- 20:39Speaker 2: bus stops.
- 20:41Speaker 6: Well, it says that it was over a wrong direction.
- 20:45Speaker 6: And specifically what that means, we don't know. So did
- 20:52Speaker 6: he get on the wrong bus and he got mad?
- 20:55Speaker 2: I don't know. But you got to wonder if it's
- 20:58Speaker 2: a transient. Yeah, I said it. I said the T word.
- 21:01Speaker 6: A lot of people feeling pretty zippy in Malibu. So,
- 21:07Speaker 6: you know, they have these new speed cameras that they're
- 21:09Speaker 6: rolling out. They've got them in. Coming to Malibu, they've
- 21:12Speaker 6: got some more coming in Long Beach. And they will
- 21:14Speaker 6: automatically ticket you if you're going 11 miles per hour
- 21:18Speaker 6: or more. And at first, there's going to be this warning.
- 21:20Speaker 6: And then they'll start issuing the citations after that. So
- 21:23Speaker 6: right now, they're testing them. And Malibu was testing those cameras.
- 21:27Speaker 6: And in less than 10 days, it recorded 100,000 speeding
- 21:32Speaker 6: violations in just 10 days.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Holy smokes.
- 21:36Speaker 6: Most of them were in eastern Malibu. Carbon Canyon, Tuna Canyon.
- 21:46Speaker 6: So now they've pushed back their start date for this.
- 21:49Speaker 6: They're like, we need to check into this a little
- 21:51Speaker 6: bit more. I don't know why. They could make a
- 21:54Speaker 6: whole lot of money.
- 21:57Speaker 2: All right. Defense-focused senators are giving a very cool shoulder
- 22:03Speaker 2: reception to War Secretary Pete Hagseth's proposal to cut by 20%
- 22:10Speaker 2: the number of the nation's admirals and generals. So you've
- 22:14Speaker 2: got some lawmakers upset by this. They said they had
- 22:16Speaker 2: not seen the rationale for Hegseth's argument, while others clearly
- 22:21Speaker 2: wanted to talk about other things. So Ted Budd, Senator, said, no,
- 22:28Speaker 2: I certainly want to see his rationale in detail, and
- 22:31Speaker 2: I don't have that yet. When he was asked about
- 22:34Speaker 2: whether it was a good move or not, Senator Deb
- 22:37Speaker 2: Fischer said, We're focused on what we're doing today, she
- 22:42Speaker 2: told reporters, and about the cuts there. So all we
- 22:48Speaker 2: know is the simple saying, less generals, more GIs, is
- 22:52Speaker 2: all I've heard him say. And if that just means, hey,
- 22:55Speaker 2: we need less of the brass and we need more
- 22:57Speaker 2: boots on the ground, then what else are you going
- 23:02Speaker 2: to say? How are you going to re-say it? Say,
- 23:05Speaker 2: we just want more troops. I don't know how... Recruiting
- 23:11Speaker 2: is going. I know that it had been down for
- 23:13Speaker 2: a long time and maybe that's his rationale.
- 23:17Speaker 6: It was down and then it surged.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Yeah. I remember that there was a strange bump that
- 23:24Speaker 2: came and usually those bumps come when we're in some
- 23:27Speaker 2: turmoil and people feel super patriotic. You know, like after 9-11,
- 23:33Speaker 2: you remember that big, massive surge and But did they
- 23:38Speaker 2: ever say why any of that was going down or
- 23:41Speaker 2: why we started seeing another boost in young folks enlisting?
- 23:47Speaker 2: Because that's the only thing I can think of. And
- 23:51Speaker 2: you just come out and you say that. Here's the
- 23:52Speaker 2: numbers and we want to boost these numbers.
- 23:54Speaker 6: It began in fiscal year 2024. Twelve and a half
- 23:58Speaker 6: percent over 2023 numbers.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I would imagine that that's. Difficult to get young
- 24:06Speaker 2: people to want to, other than, you know, college and
- 24:11Speaker 2: stuff like that. You know, and we're getting people responding
- 24:15Speaker 2: still from your saying, where was the knife wound? People,
- 24:21Speaker 2: let me put this to rest. Anne is about as
- 24:25Speaker 2: kind and empathetic as you could possibly imagine. I amplified it,
- 24:33Speaker 2: teasing her. was messing with her. We do. We work together.
- 24:36Speaker 2: All of us work together. She's an incredibly kind and
- 24:41Speaker 2: loving person. She was in producer mode trying to get
- 24:45Speaker 2: information on a breaking story. Cut her some slack.
- 24:50Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 24:51Speaker 7: Move on.
- 24:54Speaker 2: It's just as funny what gets stuck in people's craw. Yeah. Listen,
- 24:59Speaker 2: we hope that you listen enough to get to know us. However,
- 25:01Speaker 2: you often don't know who we are. Just Relax. Yeah,
- 25:06Speaker 2: relax a little bit.
- 25:07Speaker 3: We're all pretty cool people. Yeah.
- 25:10Speaker 2: You're not helping, Clay. All of us, right? Yeah. Every
- 25:15Speaker 2: single one of us. All right. Back to handle on
- 25:18Speaker 2: the news we go. Story number 10.
- 25:23Speaker 6: A DDT dump. This is pretty bad. Two members of
- 25:29Speaker 6: Congress are ramping up efforts now to investigate the consequences
- 25:33Speaker 6: of Of DDT pollution off the coast of Southern California.
- 25:37Speaker 6: Remember when this story first came out a couple of
- 25:39Speaker 6: years ago that they found this massive field of barrels
- 25:45Speaker 6: of toxic waste down on the ocean floor. It had
- 25:49Speaker 6: been dumped in the ocean after World War II. Well,
- 25:52Speaker 6: a first of its kind bill has been introduced in
- 25:54Speaker 6: both the Senate and the House. DDT, that's a pesticide, right?
- 25:57Speaker 6: That's the one that nearly wiped out the bald eagles.
- 25:59Speaker 2: Yeah, and they were like, I remember that. When I
- 26:03Speaker 2: was a kid, right? How long ago was that?
- 26:05Speaker 6: Well, all this dumping happened after World War II. But
- 26:09Speaker 6: it's called the Ocean Protection DDT Reduction Act. Lays out
- 26:13Speaker 6: a long-awaited proposal on how to deal with the poisoned
- 26:17Speaker 6: marine environment because you can't just pull it up. And
- 26:20Speaker 6: it's been sitting there on the ocean floor for, you know,
- 26:24Speaker 6: almost 100 years. The nation's largest manufacturer of DDT. disposed
- 26:31Speaker 6: of its waste at sea for years. Wow.
- 26:36Speaker 2: That just, I mean, that really is sweeping it under
- 26:40Speaker 2: the rug. How can you not think, how is that
- 26:43Speaker 2: any different than leaving it out to rot and poison
- 26:48Speaker 2: and everything?
- 26:50Speaker 6: Maybe the thought is if it's cold enough and it
- 26:52Speaker 6: doesn't get stirred up, it'll just sit there. But I
- 26:57Speaker 6: don't know.
- 26:59Speaker 2: There's no– you'd think there's some destructive way to kill
- 27:02Speaker 2: the properties that we have concern with. You know what
- 27:06Speaker 2: I'm saying? Like you first think about fire or incinerating something.
- 27:10Speaker 2: That could be the absolute wrong thing to do. I
- 27:14Speaker 2: have no idea. But you'd think there was something, pressure, heat, combination,
- 27:19Speaker 2: something to be able to destroy. Catapult into space. Yeah.
- 27:22Speaker 2: Now you're talking, Clay. Oh, you mean the– I thought you.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Hmm.
- 27:28Speaker 2: She was pure love, says the partner of Renee Good.
- 27:32Speaker 2: That's the Minneapolis woman that we remember was fatally shot
- 27:38Speaker 2: by an immigration officer back in January. So she spoke
- 27:42Speaker 2: publicly about her partner's death the first time on Thursday.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Family announced that they have filed two federal civil lawsuits.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Goes on to say she was pure love. She was funny.
- 27:57Speaker 2: And she was smart and she was gorgeous, Becca Good
- 28:02Speaker 2: said at a press conference. Becoming very emotional, obviously, as
- 28:06Speaker 2: she discussed, attending back to school night and preparing to
- 28:11Speaker 2: celebrate Halloween with her children alone. Every single one of
- 28:14Speaker 2: these moments for all of her babies and for everyone
- 28:18Speaker 2: up here as a monumental moment, she should be here
- 28:22Speaker 2: for all of them. And we were all robbed. Regardless
- 28:28Speaker 2: if you see her as somebody who put herself in
- 28:31Speaker 2: danger or not, that's a horrible, horrible situation. And you
- 28:38Speaker 2: can't help but feel for the rest of her family.
- 28:44Speaker 6: Well, now Kroger's done it. They've gone just too far.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Uh-oh.
- 28:49Speaker 6: They're instituting a new dress policy.
- 28:52Speaker 2: Wait, what?
- 28:53Speaker 6: Nearly 400,000 in-store workers. And Kroger here is Ralph's. The
- 28:58Speaker 6: workers are now going to be required to wear company-issued
- 29:00Speaker 6: shirts featuring Kroger's shopping cart logo, which I've noticed has
- 29:05Speaker 6: popped up on the app now.
- 29:06Speaker 5: Oh, well, good.
- 29:07Speaker 2: I thought it was for us. I'm like, oh, man.
- 29:10Speaker 1: No.
- 29:11Speaker 2: We got a dress code to go grocery shopping. I'm like,
- 29:14Speaker 2: that's the difference between going to Walmart and Target. You
- 29:16Speaker 2: ever hear people go, I didn't have it at Walmart.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Now I got to shower and go to Target.
- 29:20Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 29:22Speaker 2: No.
- 29:23Speaker 6: So apparently, I don't know why this is a big deal.
- 29:26Speaker 6: I mean, I'm just thinking you got less laundry to
- 29:28Speaker 6: do or less going through your wardrobe to figure out
- 29:32Speaker 6: what you're going to wear to work. Kroger workers previously
- 29:35Speaker 6: were able to wear their own clothing under a company
- 29:38Speaker 6: apron along with a name badge to identify.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Them as workers.
- 29:41Speaker 6: Well, now they're going to have to wear a t-shirt
- 29:43Speaker 6: or a zip up or a polo shirt that has
- 29:46Speaker 6: the Kroger logo on it.
- 29:47Speaker 2: Are they getting it for free or do they have
- 29:48Speaker 2: to pay for it?
- 29:49Speaker 6: Company issued. I don't know.
- 29:50Speaker 2: Okay. So why do you care?
- 29:52Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 29:54Speaker 2: You know, if you don't have to pay for it,
- 29:55Speaker 2: then who cares? El Nino, once again, Is Spanish for
- 30:01Speaker 2: the niño. They just got, you've never heard that before ever?
- 30:06Speaker 4: No.
- 30:07Speaker 2: It's an old Chris Farley joke. I'm el niño.
- 30:13Speaker 6: What does niño mean?
- 30:15Speaker 2: Little boy. Niño. Little boy. Mi niño. Mi hijito. Mi hijo.
- 30:23Speaker 2: All of it. All right. Just gave us the first
- 30:28Speaker 2: no hurricane September in decades. Our weather doesn't know what
- 30:33Speaker 2: it's doing. How long can this Atlantic shutout last? Well,
- 30:38Speaker 2: that's what we're waiting to see. The Atlantic Ocean has
- 30:42Speaker 2: failed to produce a hurricane in the month of September
- 30:46Speaker 2: for the first time in more than 30 years. You know,
- 30:50Speaker 2: and then Handel will come on and go, look at
- 30:52Speaker 2: the weather is going everywhere. We've got all these hurricanes everywhere.
- 30:55Speaker 2: It's just weather is. Boy, it's unpredictable. I don't want
- 31:02Speaker 2: to see anybody harmed, but I sure would like some
- 31:04Speaker 2: of that El Nino rain. El Nino. So only three
- 31:10Speaker 2: other Septembers have gone hurricane free in the Atlantic in
- 31:14Speaker 2: records dating back to 1950. Last time it happened was 1994,
- 31:19Speaker 2: and before that, 1972 and 1962. So I guess that's
- 31:24Speaker 2: good news for the Atlantic.
- 31:25Speaker 6: Well, but we're getting hounded here in the Pacific. We
- 31:28Speaker 6: got another one that's just spun up. The head of CNN,
- 31:35Speaker 6: is he going to have a job? That's the big question.
- 31:38Speaker 6: The chairman and chief executive of CNN is Mark Thompson.
- 31:42Speaker 6: Not our Mark Thompson, a different one.
- 31:44Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, it's not me, Amy.
- 31:46Speaker 6: He could remain at his role at the News Network
- 31:50Speaker 6: following the merger of Paramount Skydance and Warner Brothers Discovery.
- 31:55Speaker 6: Thompson is said to be in early stages of discussions
- 31:58Speaker 6: with Paramount Skydance chief David Ellison about staying in the
- 32:03Speaker 6: role that he's held since April of 2023.
- 32:08Speaker 2: All right. And so goes Handel on the news. Almost
- 32:11Speaker 2: every single story. Good for us.
- 32:14Speaker 1: You've been listening to The Bill Handel Show. Catch my
- 32:17Speaker 1: show Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and
- 32:20Speaker 1: anytime on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
