- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time, a wave original.
- 0:09Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:11Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:15Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:17Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:20Speaker 1: a hater. You know what time it is. NFL football
- 0:25Speaker 1: is back. Baby, look, understand, I am one of these
- 0:27Speaker 1: people that's a little bit disheartened about how this country
- 0:30Speaker 1: has just become football all the time. It's like it's
- 0:33Speaker 1: the only sport that we care about. I think you
- 0:35Speaker 1: guys look like fucking morons when y'all be sitting around
- 0:38Speaker 1: watching that fake football, that preseason football, right? And, you know,
- 0:42Speaker 1: you be betting on it. You watch the Pro Bowl.
- 0:44Speaker 1: I think that's crazy. Week one, man, I went over
- 0:47Speaker 1: to my buddy Nick's house. He got like five, six
- 0:49Speaker 1: games on. We over there posted up. eating wangs baby
- 0:53Speaker 1: it was a great time i i i have to
- 0:56Speaker 1: say i was i was kind of thrilled that we
- 0:58Speaker 1: got this football back right i don't even necessarily know
- 1:01Speaker 1: what it is that you do with the football you
- 1:03Speaker 1: know nick you might need to pull up one day.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Oh yeah i mean i i've i've seen i've been
- 1:08Speaker 2: to football at nick's house he is uh he's locked
- 1:10Speaker 2: in for 10 hours he's not moving.
- 1:12Speaker 1: He's locked in for 10 hours. And I have to
- 1:13Speaker 1: tell you, this is the first time it was so
- 1:15Speaker 1: much going on. Like, normally I can find the game
- 1:18Speaker 1: I care about, lock in, and go from there, right? Like,
- 1:21Speaker 1: I like watching football with Nick, one, because it makes
- 1:24Speaker 1: it better for coming on this show because he knows
- 1:27Speaker 1: a zillion things. We're having conversation. Like, we're giving ourselves
- 1:30Speaker 1: things to think about. Yeah, it's basically it, right? Like,
- 1:33Speaker 1: it's a really cool thing to be able to go
- 1:34Speaker 1: back and forth with him about what's going on because
- 1:37Speaker 1: he knows so much at all times because, you know,
- 1:40Speaker 1: he'd be putting money on stuff. It takes you to
- 1:43Speaker 1: a different place in terms of watching the game. But
- 1:45Speaker 1: there were actually enough interesting games early that it was difficult.
- 1:50Speaker 1: But the game that we got to, obviously, it was
- 1:53Speaker 1: all a buildup for Ravens and Bills on Sunday night. Now,
- 1:59Speaker 1: Ravens and Bills, for the last few years, a game
- 2:02Speaker 1: like that, it's been.
- 2:06Speaker 3: The consolation bracket, right?
- 2:08Speaker 1: And not really in a bad way, but it's been
- 2:11Speaker 1: the consolation bracket, right? Like, it's kind of who gonna
- 2:15Speaker 1: finish second to Usain Bolt in the 100-meter final at
- 2:18Speaker 1: the Olympics. That's just what it's been. It's been the
- 2:22Speaker 1: Chiefs and then everybody else.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Mahomes pulling up to the three-point contest like Larry Bird.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Who wants to come in second?
- 2:30Speaker 1: Mahomes throwing some pass behind his back, over his shoulder,
- 2:33Speaker 1: then just walking out, pointing his finger to the sky
- 2:35Speaker 1: because you know that thing is going in. That's exactly
- 2:38Speaker 1: what it's been for these years. Last night was different.
- 2:41Speaker 1: And we'll talk about part of why it was different
- 2:43Speaker 1: coming up in a little bit. But this matchup does
- 2:47Speaker 1: not feel like the consolation bracket. anymore right like this
- 2:50Speaker 1: feels like a different kind of battle this is every
- 2:55Speaker 1: year feels like the best chance for whatever team is
- 2:59Speaker 1: not the Chiefs now obviously um the Ravens having that
- 3:05Speaker 1: chance to beat the Chiefs at home uh in 2023
- 3:09Speaker 1: January 2024 and they did not win it that one
- 3:12Speaker 1: really felt like their best chance and that they just
- 3:16Speaker 1: gave it up like they had the game At the crib,
- 3:19Speaker 1: which up to that point, Patrick Mahomes ain't playing no
- 3:21Speaker 1: games on the road before that season, right? They had
- 3:24Speaker 1: the game at the crib. And it wasn't that same year.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Didn't Buffalo have Kansas City at the crib run and
- 3:30Speaker 1: then they lost that one?
- 3:31Speaker 2: Yeah, because that was the year they went 11-6 when
- 3:36Speaker 2: the receivers were all double agents.
- 3:38Speaker 4: Right.
- 3:38Speaker 1: And so he went to everybody's house and was just like,
- 3:40Speaker 1: not yet, fellas. Not yet. Like, y'all think this is
- 3:43Speaker 1: y'all's chance. This isn't y'all's chance. And then they walked through. Okay.
- 3:46Speaker 5: Okay.
- 3:50Speaker 1: This is not a game I don't feel like where
- 3:53Speaker 1: you come out of it talking about one quarterback won
- 3:57Speaker 1: and one quarterback lost. Now, obviously, Josh Allen in that
- 4:01Speaker 1: 16-point run they put on at the end was just unreal.
- 4:07Speaker 4: Just.
- 4:08Speaker 1: big old... I just don't know. I'm trying not to
- 4:12Speaker 1: use curse words, but that's all... The problem with trying
- 4:14Speaker 1: to describe Josh Allen.
- 4:15Speaker 2: That big MF-er?
- 4:16Speaker 1: Yes. That's all I have is some form of that, right?
- 4:19Speaker 1: It's not even just that it's curse words. It's the
- 4:21Speaker 1: big dollar ones that you can't... But that's all you
- 4:24Speaker 1: can do with a dude that big throwing the ball
- 4:27Speaker 1: like that, and he was putting it right on the
- 4:29Speaker 1: dot for this Cats fan. Like, it was... And in a...
- 4:32Speaker 1: We got to get it right now. This is our chance.
- 4:34Speaker 1: This is all we got.
- 4:35Speaker 2: And they.
- 4:36Speaker 1: I mean... They should not have won that game. Baltimore
- 4:41Speaker 1: lost it, but they won it. Like the drives that
- 4:44Speaker 1: they were running, Baltimore's defense is going to have to
- 4:48Speaker 1: be a little something different, obviously, than it was. And honestly,
- 4:51Speaker 1: Buffalo's defense is also going to need to be a
- 4:53Speaker 1: little something different than it was. But that was the
- 4:57Speaker 1: big fella. You know what he is? Here's what he is, right?
- 5:00Speaker 1: He's a big old galoop. That's a big galoot. The
- 5:05Speaker 1: problem is when he talks, he doesn't sound stupid. Like
- 5:08Speaker 1: you think of a galoot is kind of big and stupid,
- 5:11Speaker 1: but he is. That's what we need to start calling
- 5:13Speaker 1: Josh Allen because he doesn't really have a nickname yet, right? No.
- 5:16Speaker 1: What if we just say the big galoot? When's the
- 5:20Speaker 1: last time we called somebody a galoot?
- 5:23Speaker 2: I didn't know they were still making galoots.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Well, no, no. They're clearly still making them. We just
- 5:27Speaker 1: began to identify them as something else. You're like, oh,
- 5:29Speaker 1: I didn't know they made Datsuns anymore.
- 5:31Speaker 3: No, they're called Nissans now.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Like that's all that is. Got it. The big loop
- 5:35Speaker 1: was moving down the field and making that happen. Look,
- 5:40Speaker 1: Baltimore had a game where Lamar Jackson averaged 11 yards
- 5:45Speaker 1: in attempt through two touchdowns, ran for 70 yards in
- 5:49Speaker 1: another touchdown. Derrick Henry ran for 170 yards. Your team
- 5:53Speaker 1: ran for 240 yards and your quarterback played well. and
- 6:04Speaker 1: you stopped the run and you lost. Hey guys, there's
- 6:12Speaker 1: really only one place for you to look under those
- 6:15Speaker 1: circumstances and that place is the dude with the headphones on.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Have a factoid here that Ryan has put in our
- 6:25Speaker 1: document for you guys to know. John Harbaugh in his
- 6:30Speaker 1: coaching career has blown 17 second-half double-digit leads.
- 6:39Speaker 4: 17.
- 6:39Speaker 1: That is the most by any coach since at least 1991,
- 6:43Speaker 1: because they ain't been counting, but for so long. Now,
- 6:49Speaker 1: part of that, of course, is a function of the
- 6:51Speaker 1: fact that John Harbaugh has been coaching literally since the
- 6:57Speaker 1: Bush administration. The second Bush, just, you know, don't you
- 7:01Speaker 1: think we're being unfair? but he'd been out there since
- 7:04Speaker 1: the Bush administration. Some of y'all don't even want to
- 7:08Speaker 1: think about what it was like when he was the.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Coach, because they was putting you out of your house.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Was that too far?
- 7:19Speaker 1: Did I take it into tragedy at that point? Okay,
- 7:23Speaker 1: Ryan ain't even jumping in to say nothing about it.
- 7:27Speaker 2: I was thinking about what my wife was like when
- 7:29Speaker 2: John Harbaugh started coaching.
- 7:31Speaker 1: I'm just saying, if he was driving down the street
- 7:32Speaker 1: and being like, damn, they're not going to finish building
- 7:34Speaker 1: that house? They're just going to stop in the middle, huh? Shit. Okay.
- 7:39Speaker 1: But he's been there for a long time. But at
- 7:41Speaker 1: the same time, I do think he has been shielded
- 7:45Speaker 1: by the presence of Lamar Jackson. in times and ways
- 7:48Speaker 1: that very often when a team like this has not
- 7:50Speaker 1: gotten to the Super Bowl over this time period and
- 7:53Speaker 1: they have the quarterback, you get a new coach. Like
- 7:56Speaker 1: that by now ordinarily would have happened. We are now
- 8:00Speaker 1: in year eight of the Lamar Jackson experience. Keeping in mind,
- 8:05Speaker 1: they was going to cut bait with Harbaugh in 2018
- 8:09Speaker 1: until Lamar Jackson came in and saved his job, right?
- 8:15Speaker 1: They look tight.
- 8:17Speaker 3: At the end of that.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Now, do I think you can blame Harbaugh for, you know,
- 8:24Speaker 1: Hall of Fame running back Derrick Henry fumbling when he did?
- 8:28Speaker 3: No, I don't think that you can put that on
- 8:30Speaker 3: the coach.
- 8:31Speaker 1: By the way, speaking of Derrick Henry, I know you've
- 8:33Speaker 1: probably seen this number from somebody else. I know you
- 8:36Speaker 1: may have seen somebody else make this point, but Derrick
- 8:38Speaker 1: Henry last season had the sneakiest all-time great season that
- 8:42Speaker 1: I think an NFL player has ever had. Because Saquon
- 8:45Speaker 1: Barkley had all those yards. Did you know Derrick Henry
- 8:49Speaker 1: ran for 1,900 yards last year?
- 8:51Speaker 2: I did not. Last night, he got into the top
- 8:57Speaker 2: five all-time rushing touchdowns.
- 8:58Speaker 4: Yes.
- 8:59Speaker 2: And a stat that was also going around is he
- 9:03Speaker 2: still hasn't rushed for more yards than he did in
- 9:05Speaker 2: high school. I've seen that number going around because he
- 9:10Speaker 2: has like 12,000 high school rushing yards.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Ain't nobody stealing a check quite like Derrick Henry's high
- 9:18Speaker 1: school coach. They wouldn't watch no film. They wouldn't cook
- 9:22Speaker 1: it up.
- 9:22Speaker 2: No.
- 9:23Speaker 1: What are we going to do today? I don't know, guys.
- 9:26Speaker 1: What do you think? Maybe we could just give the
- 9:29Speaker 1: ball to Derek again.
- 9:31Speaker 2: He's sneaky. He's sneaky become like the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar of
- 9:34Speaker 2: running backs.
- 9:35Speaker 4: Yes.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Like a dominant high school, college, and now pro into
- 9:40Speaker 2: a sec. Like he's 40 and running back years, but
- 9:43Speaker 2: still looks 22.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Well, that's what I was going to say that I
- 9:46Speaker 1: think is so crazy is that I think it is
- 9:47Speaker 1: perfectly reasonable that this year is a Saquon Barkley regression year, right?
- 9:52Speaker 1: Like you run for 2,000 yards, you take all the
- 9:55Speaker 1: carries that it takes Uh, Barkley is now, and I
- 9:58Speaker 1: want to say going into year eight or something like that. Yeah.
- 10:00Speaker 2: He's the same draft as Lamar.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Like that's about the time that you have a regression
- 10:05Speaker 1: for running back. It's unreasonable to expect him. And by
- 10:08Speaker 1: the way, in week one, it looked like the sort
- 10:09Speaker 1: of thing that was possible. Hey, Derek Henry is a
- 10:12Speaker 1: lot older than him and just ran for 1900 yards
- 10:18Speaker 1: on six yards, a carry, and then just came out
- 10:21Speaker 1: here and started the season with 170 yards. like all
- 10:25Speaker 1: that hyperbaric chamber stuff and everything else he's doing, apparently
- 10:29Speaker 1: it's worth the money. But guys, he gave up the
- 10:33Speaker 1: booty at the end of that game, much like Mark Andrews.
- 10:37Speaker 1: He gave up the booty in the last time they
- 10:39Speaker 1: played that game in Buffalo, where this stops being a
- 10:43Speaker 1: discussion about the quarterback and really does become a discussion
- 10:46Speaker 1: about why does your whole team seem to get tight?
- 10:50Speaker 1: Or is it your whole team? Like, is that a
- 10:52Speaker 1: fair characterization? The quarterback has certainly looked to be tight
- 10:56Speaker 1: over time and we have certainly chastised him and given
- 10:59Speaker 1: him the hell that you deserve when you are a
- 11:01Speaker 1: guy with as many receipts and the stripes that Lamar
- 11:03Speaker 1: Jackson has and you come out there and you look tight.
- 11:05Speaker 1: But after a certain point, man, and it's everybody and
- 11:08Speaker 1: you put up 40 points on the road and you're
- 11:11Speaker 1: up and you lose, this goes back to the coach.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Like to me, if I'm running that franchise, This is
- 11:21Speaker 1: the make or break year for Harbaugh. And look, he's
- 11:26Speaker 1: been there forever, man. Sometimes it's just time for you
- 11:29Speaker 1: to go. It happens. I can't say that the team
- 11:33Speaker 1: doesn't respond to him because they seem to, right? They
- 11:36Speaker 1: made the changes with the offense. As you've asked Lamar
- 11:40Speaker 1: to step up and to become a better passer, more
- 11:42Speaker 1: sneaky stats. Lamar Jackson last year had 41 touchdowns, four interceptions,
- 11:47Speaker 1: and ran for over 900 yards. I'm sorry. We're going
- 11:54Speaker 1: to answer the questions about everybody else before we start
- 11:57Speaker 1: putting it back on that guy. Even if, like I say,
- 12:00Speaker 1: and it's an important point, Lamar Jackson is not the
- 12:03Speaker 1: reason that the Ravens lost that game, but he is
- 12:07Speaker 1: not the reason why they won that game. The other guy,
- 12:11Speaker 1: he is the reason his guys won the game, right?
- 12:14Speaker 1: And if they'd lost, he wouldn't have been the reason
- 12:15Speaker 1: because he also had an incredible game. Like I find
- 12:19Speaker 1: it to be so much more interesting, at least for
- 12:21Speaker 1: the type of job that I have to be able
- 12:23Speaker 1: to come off of a game like that. And what
- 12:25Speaker 1: we don't have to do is trying to find a
- 12:27Speaker 1: way to blame or chastise the two excellent quarterbacks who
- 12:32Speaker 1: played excellently. Like we don't have to do that. I
- 12:37Speaker 1: will say this though, Ryan, Buffalo going to need to
- 12:40Speaker 1: figure out how to run the ball. Like, we're just
- 12:43Speaker 1: going to jump on Josh Allen's back and he's going
- 12:45Speaker 1: to do everything? I will say this for the Ravens.
- 12:48Speaker 1: It took them a while to build it up, but
- 12:50Speaker 1: it never felt like that was their plan on purpose.
- 12:52Speaker 1: These last couple years, it's felt like this is what
- 12:54Speaker 1: Buffalo has just decided they're going to do.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, like, they've found a way to make
- 13:00Speaker 2: him a more effective runner, but their receivers still look
- 13:03Speaker 2: like non-playable characters. James Cook is good, not great. I mean,
- 13:07Speaker 2: at least... None of them are really hit, but the
- 13:09Speaker 2: Ravens have put a lot of talent, a lot of
- 13:12Speaker 2: draft capital into that receiver position. And then, of course,
- 13:14Speaker 2: they go out and get Derrick Henry last year.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I will say this, though. They put a lot
- 13:17Speaker 1: of capital into that, but if you run through this
- 13:19Speaker 1: box score, if there's something that needs to worry you
- 13:21Speaker 1: about them, Zay Flowers looks like the guy that they
- 13:24Speaker 1: said he was going to be when he got drafted, right?
- 13:26Speaker 1: He looked like that. But they are looking for what's
- 13:31Speaker 1: left of DeAndre Hopkins to get it done.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Two catches for 35 yards.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Rashad Bateman... So I don't know if you ever listened
- 13:40Speaker 1: back in the day when me and Shannon did the
- 13:41Speaker 1: radio show, and everybody's got that guy. Like one of
- 13:44Speaker 1: them for me was Kristen Michael, but the defining one
- 13:47Speaker 1: for me was Darren McFadden, but this is the year
- 13:49Speaker 1: that he puts it all together.
- 13:51Speaker 2: That checks out.
- 13:52Speaker 4: Yes.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Rashad Bateman, he is a guy that I promise this
- 13:57Speaker 1: is going to be the year he puts it all together.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Kyle Pitts is mine.
- 14:02Speaker 1: I had that feeling while I was watching snippets of
- 14:03Speaker 1: that game. It started looking like it might be, right?
- 14:06Speaker 1: It started looking like it might be. Mark Andrews didn't
- 14:09Speaker 1: give him anything in this game. So they have made
- 14:13Speaker 1: the capital investments. They signed Odell Beckham a couple years ago,
- 14:15Speaker 1: but what was left of Odell Beckham? They they've tried
- 14:19Speaker 1: flowers seems to be the one that has panned out,
- 14:22Speaker 1: but somebody is going to have to give it because
- 14:24Speaker 1: we're at this point now where their quarterback is one
- 14:26Speaker 1: of the greatest quarterbacks who has ever played. He is
- 14:28Speaker 1: a hall of fame quarterback. Like Josh Allen is still
- 14:31Speaker 1: hall of fame trajectory. Lamar Jackson with the receipts that
- 14:34Speaker 1: he's got his hall of fame. Josh Allen, I think
- 14:35Speaker 1: is going to be there.
- 14:36Speaker 6: Right.
- 14:36Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 14:37Speaker 2: But like he's one MVP or one Superbowl appearance away
- 14:40Speaker 2: from being a lock.
- 14:40Speaker 4: Yes.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Like, like this is where they, this is where they are.
- 14:44Speaker 1: The dude in the cap is, is going to need
- 14:47Speaker 1: to figure out how to get this done. Because if
- 14:50Speaker 1: he doesn't, they're going to look like they're squandering this.
- 14:52Speaker 1: And Lamar is more than a runner. And I find
- 14:58Speaker 1: most impressive about him as runner is that he takes
- 15:01Speaker 1: very good care of himself, right? Like he's not running
- 15:04Speaker 1: like Cam Newton used to run, where Cam Newton is
- 15:06Speaker 1: running like a fullback, right? It's not that.
- 15:10Speaker 2: However, no, Mars has figured out like he gets out
- 15:13Speaker 2: of bounds. He gets down. Yes. You never really see
- 15:16Speaker 2: him take a contact injury. He gets sick all the time.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Yes.
- 15:20Speaker 5: Yes.
- 15:21Speaker 1: He has the worst immune system of all time.
- 15:23Speaker 2: But he's never you never see him like almost carted off.
- 15:26Speaker 1: I just think we need to keep in mind that
- 15:28Speaker 1: his primary football advisor at every turn has been his mama.
- 15:35Speaker 1: That's not a bad thing. I'm just saying that if
- 15:38Speaker 1: your mama is giving you the most football advice, you're
- 15:40Speaker 1: going to be getting out of bounds and you're going
- 15:42Speaker 1: to be sliding. You know what I mean? Let me
- 15:44Speaker 1: tell you what your mama don't give a damn about.
- 15:46Speaker 3: No extra yard.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Not with her baby. She might be thinking that Derek
- 15:51Speaker 1: Henry need to go out there and get an extra
- 15:53Speaker 1: yard or Mark Ingram needed to get an extra yard.
- 15:56Speaker 3: But you need to get your black ass down.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Right. But he doesn't take those big hits as a runner. However,
- 16:06Speaker 1: We saw this specifically with Cam Newton. This is the
- 16:08Speaker 1: greatest example. He had the career arc of a running
- 16:11Speaker 1: back because of all the miles that he had. You
- 16:15Speaker 1: want to get this gentleman to do it like Lamar.
- 16:17Speaker 1: This is really the time because we don't have a
- 16:19Speaker 1: great answer for how long this is going to go.
- 16:20Speaker 1: It is not, in all likelihood, this is not going
- 16:22Speaker 1: to be a 17 or 18 year career. And that's
- 16:24Speaker 1: not a slight or an insult to him. That's just
- 16:26Speaker 1: not how it works with guys like this. If you
- 16:28Speaker 1: decide you're going to do this and play this type
- 16:30Speaker 1: of quarterback, you're not going to have a 20 year.
- 16:32Speaker 1: It's not going to be that. Just not. And with
- 16:35Speaker 1: the athleticism fades for him. He'll still be able to pass,
- 16:39Speaker 1: but it's going to completely change the dynamics of how
- 16:41Speaker 1: he plays. This is the window to get this done.
- 16:44Speaker 1: All right. Either John Harbaugh gets it done or John
- 16:48Speaker 1: Harbaugh going to be sitting behind a desk as the
- 16:50Speaker 1: new Jimmy Johnson. Just you watch.
- 16:58Speaker 5: All right.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Now I had mentioned and made the point that that
- 17:01Speaker 1: game did not feel so much like the consolation bracket.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Between the Bills and the Ravens as it had before.
- 17:08Speaker 1: And the reason for that is very simple. The Chiefs
- 17:12Speaker 1: did not feel like champions in that game that they
- 17:15Speaker 1: played in Brazil against the Chargers. They did not. I
- 17:20Speaker 1: think big takeaway from that game, though, is there is
- 17:24Speaker 1: no quarterback whisperer quite like Jim Harbaugh now is there.
- 17:28Speaker 1: I don't know why. I don't know how, but there
- 17:31Speaker 1: is not.
- 17:32Speaker 2: And when Justin Herbert is at the peak of his powers,
- 17:35Speaker 2: I mean, when things are working for him and he's
- 17:37Speaker 2: hitting those throws and he has time, I get why
- 17:41Speaker 2: the nerds love him so much.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I mean, he's the king of the eye test, right?
- 17:45Speaker 7: He is.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Like, I made a point once that John Elway is
- 17:50Speaker 1: the best eye test quarterback in NFL history. And I
- 17:54Speaker 1: still believe that to be true. And people were like, well,
- 17:56Speaker 1: what about Aaron Rodgers? Aaron Rodgers has an eye test arm, right?
- 18:02Speaker 1: But getting off the bus, just seeing the dude in pants,
- 18:07Speaker 1: ready to go play. And you could be like, well,
- 18:09Speaker 1: people would hit me back with that. And they're like, well,
- 18:11Speaker 1: John Elway is 6'3, 220 or whatever. Well, Aaron Rodgers
- 18:15Speaker 1: is 6'2, 220 or whatever. Is it that big a difference? Look,
- 18:18Speaker 1: I don't make the rules, dog.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Aaron Rodgers didn't get drafted to play baseball.
- 18:23Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers got, let me tell you, no matter how
- 18:25Speaker 1: much of a jerk people thought Aaron Rodgers was, that
- 18:28Speaker 1: same version of John Elway, whom people thought was a jerk,
- 18:31Speaker 1: wasn't nobody letting that slide to know number 25. You
- 18:34Speaker 1: just weren't.
- 18:35Speaker 2: John Elway wasn't sitting behind, wasn't sitting for two years.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Wasn't happening. Wasn't happening, man. Like, but if you, like,
- 18:40Speaker 1: that was the guy. Big, strong, he had, like, perfect
- 18:44Speaker 1: physical mechanics in the arm, and he could run and
- 18:47Speaker 1: all of those things. Justin Herbert fits very similar characteristics.
- 18:51Speaker 1: In fact, his eye test problem is that he's a
- 18:53Speaker 1: little too much of something, which is too tall because
- 18:55Speaker 1: he's about 6'6. And generally terrible haircuts. Like, you know,
- 19:00Speaker 1: there's that. But you get it. He's athletic. He's got
- 19:04Speaker 1: that arm. Somebody told me a story when that draft
- 19:07Speaker 1: was coming up. And because that was the draft with
- 19:12Speaker 1: Tua winning that draft. Was it Joe Burrow, Tua, and
- 19:16Speaker 1: Justin Herbert?
- 19:17Speaker 2: Yeah, those were three of the top six.
- 19:19Speaker 1: The 2020 draft, right. And somebody said about the Chargers,
- 19:21Speaker 1: they were like, and they talked to somebody in the organization,
- 19:23Speaker 1: they're like, all right, so we're going to take a
- 19:26Speaker 1: black dude this year. Like, for whatever reason, they had
- 19:29Speaker 1: concluded they were going to take a black dude. And
- 19:31Speaker 1: somebody was like, well, what about Herbert? They were like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 19:35Speaker 1: close enough. That was what was relayed to me about
- 19:40Speaker 1: what they were doing with that team.
- 19:42Speaker 2: That was the year Tyrod was the starter.
- 19:45Speaker 1: That's right.
- 19:45Speaker 2: So they clearly committed organizationally.
- 19:48Speaker 1: They did. So that's like... now of course this story
- 19:51Speaker 1: may not have been a real relay because they had
- 19:53Speaker 1: a black coach at the time like when hugh jackson
- 19:54Speaker 1: was the coach people were assuming that they were just
- 19:56Speaker 1: gonna get a black coach and i was like you
- 19:57Speaker 1: don't know any black quarterback i'm like you don't know
- 19:59Speaker 1: anything about Hugh Jackson, who's like building for granted quarterback
- 20:03Speaker 1: is Carson Palmer, right? Like you guys have this wrong,
- 20:05Speaker 1: but I just say all that to say, that's the
- 20:07Speaker 1: athleticism that Justin Herbert is giving you. He looks and
- 20:10Speaker 1: can be whatever quarterback you want to be. The big
- 20:13Speaker 1: reason why quarterback whisperer, Jim Harbaugh took that job was
- 20:16Speaker 1: because of Justin Herbert. And when you think about it,
- 20:19Speaker 1: Jim Harbaugh is the guy who drafted Colin Kaepernick, who
- 20:21Speaker 1: was a very good football player for a decent period
- 20:25Speaker 1: of time. And they are very physically similar. Colin, of course,
- 20:29Speaker 1: is just a different level of runner. But when you
- 20:31Speaker 1: think about it, kind of tall, you know, tall, spindly
- 20:34Speaker 1: in some ways. Like, he's that guy. And he looked
- 20:38Speaker 1: like that guy in that game against the Chiefs. And
- 20:42Speaker 1: the Chiefs, after y'all told us that it was going
- 20:44Speaker 1: to be different, looked a lot like the Chiefs of
- 20:46Speaker 1: last year, where it's Patrick Mahomes throwing to some dudes
- 20:50Speaker 1: that they would have picked up in front of the
- 20:51Speaker 1: Home Depot.
- 20:53Speaker 3: Like, y'all doing anything today?
- 20:54Speaker 1: Y'all want some work?
- 20:56Speaker 3: All right, come on down there.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Xavier Worthy, who... If you're going to be a football
- 21:05Speaker 1: player that weigh like 20 pounds less than Beaumont Jones,
- 21:09Speaker 1: you got to be able to make them kicks from
- 21:11Speaker 1: 60 yards.
- 21:12Speaker 3: You understand what I'm saying?
- 21:13Speaker 1: That dude got hurt because he ran into his mans.
- 21:17Speaker 1: That's all that happened. He's just not that big, right?
- 21:21Speaker 4: And.
- 21:21Speaker 1: We have seen kind of smaller guys who can make
- 21:24Speaker 1: it happen that way, but he's not a bowling ball
- 21:27Speaker 1: type at his size. He's just really, really fast and
- 21:30Speaker 1: a good football player, but he's just not that big.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Rasheed Rice is now out on suspension. Travis Kelsey, he's
- 21:43Speaker 1: not young.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Older than me.
- 21:47Speaker 1: Okay, there we go. I couldn't quite remember. Was he
- 21:49Speaker 1: 36 now? Yeah.
- 21:50Speaker 5: Yeah, like.
- 21:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I shouldn't say it that way. But, yes, he's
- 21:55Speaker 1: an old man. Like, to be out here still playing
- 21:58Speaker 1: the football, he is an old man.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Still playing the football in a three-point stance.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a great point. They don't have a great–
- 22:09Speaker 1: Kareem Hunt, by the way, he's still in the league all-star.
- 22:13Speaker 1: They're still giving him the ball. They tried to get
- 22:16Speaker 1: a running back when Edwards had Laird the other day.
- 22:17Speaker 1: You know who their leading rusher was in this game
- 22:19Speaker 1: on Friday night?
- 22:20Speaker 2: Patrick Mahomes?
- 22:21Speaker 3: Patrick Mahomes.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes. By a wide margin, I will note, Hollywood
- 22:28Speaker 1: Brown had a catch for 49 yards, Ryan, and the
- 22:30Speaker 1: rest of the catch is nine for 50. Like, this
- 22:37Speaker 1: is not encouraging what they're breaking out here in a
- 22:40Speaker 1: very tough division.
- 22:41Speaker 2: And the thing that they didn't look like last year
- 22:44Speaker 2: and the year prior is their defense looked really bad.
- 22:48Speaker 1: Indeed. And their defense has looked excellent at points. Now look,
- 22:52Speaker 1: maybe what we're talking about here is the Chargers are
- 22:56Speaker 1: really good and the Chargers may have the best coach
- 23:00Speaker 1: in that division. I think we would all agree at
- 23:01Speaker 1: this point that that is the best coached division in
- 23:04Speaker 1: the history of coaching in divisions, right? The only guy
- 23:09Speaker 1: that hasn't won a Super Bowl is Jim Harbaugh.
- 23:13Speaker 2: That's it. Might legitimately have, could possibly have four coaching
- 23:17Speaker 2: Hall of Famers.
- 23:18Speaker 1: I think that when all is said and done, they
- 23:22Speaker 1: will all go into the Hall of Fame. Andy Reid,
- 23:25Speaker 1: I think, is a no-brainer. I think Sean Payton, hey, man,
- 23:30Speaker 1: you win a Super Bowl with the Saints. That's like
- 23:32Speaker 1: when LeBron James won that championship in Cleveland. I understand
- 23:34Speaker 1: why he think that count for four or five. That's
- 23:38Speaker 1: against all laws. Right fast, I'm going to just say this.
- 23:41Speaker 1: They had a game on Sunday between the Saints and
- 23:44Speaker 1: the Cardinals, and I was looking in the crowd, and buddy,
- 23:47Speaker 1: I can't imagine caring enough about the Saints, the Cardinals,
- 23:51Speaker 1: or football to pay money for that.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Kyler Murray, Spencer Rattler doesn't get your butt in the seat?
- 24:00Speaker 1: Hey, Kyler Murray looked pretty good in that game, I
- 24:02Speaker 1: would have to say. I will say this for Spencer Rattler.
- 24:04Speaker 1: I don't want to make this about me, but I
- 24:08Speaker 1: think you'll understand where I'm coming from. I feel bad
- 24:09Speaker 1: for Spencer Rattler in the sense that he is still
- 24:12Speaker 1: having it held against him. the way that people perceived
- 24:15Speaker 1: his behavior in a docu-series that was done when he
- 24:18Speaker 1: was in high school. And I just think the idea
- 24:22Speaker 1: of holding against, I don't think it's fair to hold
- 24:24Speaker 1: it against anybody what they were in high school when
- 24:26Speaker 1: they're a sophomore in college. Like, you go to college,
- 24:28Speaker 1: you get to start over. You get to be a
- 24:29Speaker 1: whole new person. I was at the Super Bowl this year,
- 24:33Speaker 1: and Spencer Rattler, we were at some party. I think
- 24:36Speaker 1: it may have been the New Heights party. And we
- 24:38Speaker 1: were there, and he just stopped and saw me and
- 24:40Speaker 1: was like, Hey, Bomati Jones, Spencer Rattler, how are you?
- 24:43Speaker 1: And he took his hand out. And the thing that
- 24:45Speaker 1: struck me about that, Ryan, is if there's anybody that
- 24:48Speaker 1: don't need to introduce himself, it's Spencer Rattler.
- 24:51Speaker 2: You know what I mean? He's been, especially to someone
- 24:53Speaker 2: like you who follows recruiting, he's been in your life
- 24:55Speaker 2: for nearly, because he was a big, big time recruit.
- 24:59Speaker 1: He was that guy. I mean, he's the number one guy, right?
- 25:01Speaker 1: But the thing for me was, I was like, huh.
- 25:04Speaker 1: you don't need to introduce yourself to somebody who were,
- 25:06Speaker 1: I actually took that as, that's not the guy from
- 25:09Speaker 1: the docuseries. This is a level of humility, which also
- 25:12Speaker 1: for me was, I'm an old man because I'm like, wow,
- 25:15Speaker 1: he seemed like such a nice young man. I now
- 25:18Speaker 1: have these thoughts when I see people that has nothing
- 25:20Speaker 1: to do with what it is that we were talking about.
- 25:22Speaker 1: But for the Chiefs, here's what's crazy about the standard
- 25:25Speaker 1: that the Chiefs have gotten to. They have won their
- 25:27Speaker 1: division nine times in a row, right? Keeping in mind
- 25:30Speaker 1: that this takes it back to the Alex Smith days.
- 25:33Speaker 1: They've won the division nine times in a row. I
- 25:36Speaker 1: believe the only road playoff games my homes has played
- 25:39Speaker 1: was that year where they had to go to Buffalo
- 25:41Speaker 1: and they had to go to Baltimore, right? Like that's,
- 25:44Speaker 1: that's it for them going to play role playoff games.
- 25:46Speaker 1: This run has been so unreal. If they fall down
- 25:51Speaker 1: to winning a wild card or simply winning that division,
- 25:55Speaker 1: but not getting the number one seed, it's going to
- 25:57Speaker 1: feel like the wheels are coming off, right? Um, Which
- 26:00Speaker 1: makes it difficult for me to have a really great
- 26:02Speaker 1: grasp on how good they are at a given point
- 26:06Speaker 1: in time. Because the standard that they're held against is
- 26:10Speaker 1: truly unlike any standard that I can think of, right?
- 26:13Speaker 2: It's seven straight AFC championship games.
- 26:16Speaker 1: The Patriots did this, right? Like they're the only team
- 26:20Speaker 1: that I can think of in that way. But the
- 26:24Speaker 1: thing about the Patriots was even when the years were coming,
- 26:26Speaker 1: the Patriots weren't great. We only had one time when
- 26:29Speaker 1: we thought it was over for the Patriots and it
- 26:32Speaker 1: was 2014. Against the Chiefs. And they had that game
- 26:34Speaker 1: against the Chiefs and they got their doors blown off.
- 26:36Speaker 1: And I'll never forget, man, me and Dan Levitard sat
- 26:39Speaker 1: up there on television and we buried them. We were like,
- 26:42Speaker 1: this is what it looks like when it all falls apart, yada, yada, yada, da-da-da-da-da, da-da-da-da-da.
- 26:49Speaker 1: Four months later, Malcolm Butler made the interception at the
- 26:53Speaker 1: goal line and they won the Super Bowl again. And
- 26:55Speaker 1: it was just like, oh, never mind. It's kind of
- 26:58Speaker 1: like how we said Steph Curry was better than LeBron
- 27:00Speaker 1: and then they took the 3-1 lead and we didn't
- 27:03Speaker 1: start saying anybody was better than LeBron after that. Like,
- 27:06Speaker 1: we was petrified of going in that way. That's what
- 27:09Speaker 1: it was with the Patriots. But with the Chiefs, They
- 27:14Speaker 1: don't look like those guys, man. They don't look like it.
- 27:17Speaker 1: And Mahone, I don't know how much of this is coaching.
- 27:21Speaker 1: I don't know how much of this is the quarterback.
- 27:23Speaker 1: But as Brady declined, and the decline was obvious. And
- 27:27Speaker 1: in 2014, if you were watching, he did not look
- 27:29Speaker 1: like the same guy. He somehow got it back together.
- 27:33Speaker 1: But he didn't look like that guy at the time.
- 27:35Speaker 1: But I never felt like Tom Brady was reduced to
- 27:40Speaker 1: nickel and diming all the time.
- 27:42Speaker 3: Like truly to get it done. Although I guess at
- 27:44Speaker 3: the end, it felt like that.
- 27:46Speaker 1: But the part that's striking me about this is how
- 27:49Speaker 1: are you guys still nickel and diming it with the
- 27:51Speaker 1: greatest quarterback I've ever seen?
- 27:53Speaker 3: And you're never going to convince me it's because he
- 27:55Speaker 3: can't do it.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Because when he did have to dial it up, man,
- 27:57Speaker 1: he made some big, deep throws, right? Like I think
- 28:00Speaker 1: it was at Hollywood Brown, that big one he made
- 28:03Speaker 1: rolling right flush out of the pocket where Khalil Mack
- 28:04Speaker 1: was on his keister and he got it done. It's
- 28:07Speaker 1: not like we're seeing flashes. He hasn't gotten worse, but
- 28:11Speaker 1: they have. And they got to figure this out real
- 28:15Speaker 1: soon because the truth is, as much as I say it,
- 28:18Speaker 1: you know, if they just get to be a wild card,
- 28:20Speaker 1: we'll think the sky is falling. Missing the playoffs is
- 28:23Speaker 1: totally on the board. And one thing that's going to
- 28:25Speaker 1: be tough for them this year, while we talk about
- 28:27Speaker 1: the coaching, I don't know how many of you watched
- 28:30Speaker 1: parts of this game or saw any of it. And
- 28:33Speaker 1: I don't blame you if you did not. The Raiders
- 28:36Speaker 1: are not going to be good because I think their
- 28:38Speaker 1: defense is not going to be good. But Geno was amazing.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Gino with Chip Kelly? I just say that to say,
- 28:50Speaker 1: the wins that you felt like you could count against
- 28:52Speaker 1: the Raiders, 2023 notwithstanding, Chiefs fans, those wins you thought
- 28:55Speaker 1: you could count against the Raiders, you can't. This is
- 28:59Speaker 1: going to be a tough go for them. And that
- 29:01Speaker 1: is why Ravens-Bills doesn't feel like the consolation bracket doesn't
- 29:06Speaker 1: feel like it right now. That felt like a battle
- 29:09Speaker 1: between the two teams that are going to be playing
- 29:10Speaker 1: in the AFC Championship game. We'll see how confident I
- 29:14Speaker 1: feel about saying that later. But even now, I can't
- 29:18Speaker 1: believe I'm saying that about what the Chiefs have been.
- 29:21Speaker 1: And that is that's how they looked in Brazil, which
- 29:24Speaker 1: is to say kind of like boo boo.
- 29:32Speaker 3: Brian, we got some DraftKings action.

- 30:59Speaker 2: let's get to some other action that happened in NFL
- 31:01Speaker 2: Week 1. Tough loss for your Lions. They go down
- 31:04Speaker 2: 27-13 to the Packers. Goff sacked four times. But that's
- 31:10Speaker 2: your team. Bo, what happened?
- 31:12Speaker 1: We got a problem. We have a very big problem.
- 31:16Speaker 3: And the very big problem is, what's the center's name?
- 31:19Speaker 1: Ragnow? Frank Ragnow?
- 31:20Speaker 2: The one that retired?
- 31:21Speaker 1: The one that retired, yeah. Can somebody go to his
- 31:24Speaker 1: house and get him to bring his ass back? Because
- 31:26Speaker 1: the interior blocking was abysmal. Look, Michael Parsons was giving
- 31:32Speaker 1: Sewell a bit of the work. Yes.
- 31:34Speaker 2: And he played not even half the snaps.
- 31:36Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah.
- 31:36Speaker 1: Like, that was a thing, right? And the Packers might
- 31:40Speaker 1: be the best team in the NFC. Like, either Michael
- 31:43Speaker 1: Parsons or Rashawn Gary is your other guy coming off
- 31:47Speaker 1: the edge, right? Like, there's a thing going on. And obviously, offensively,
- 31:50Speaker 1: they look good. But I thought the Lions defensively, I
- 31:53Speaker 1: felt okay about that, right? Like, I do think... A
- 31:58Speaker 1: big problem for the Lions last year was pass rush.
- 32:01Speaker 1: And there wasn't enough of that. They did a great
- 32:04Speaker 1: job stopping the run though. Like they decided they were
- 32:06Speaker 1: going to stop Josh Jacobs and they did that. And
- 32:08Speaker 1: it wasn't like the Packers were out there putting up
- 32:10Speaker 1: video game numbers, right? Like that's not what happened. But
- 32:14Speaker 1: what did happen to me for the Lions is they
- 32:16Speaker 1: can't run because they can't get a push up the middle.
- 32:20Speaker 1: And if that's going to be the case all year long,
- 32:23Speaker 1: they're cooked. Like, this isn't going to be about Ben Johnson.
- 32:26Speaker 1: This ain't going to be about Aaron Glenn. This ain't
- 32:28Speaker 1: going to be about none of that. You've got to
- 32:30Speaker 1: get that push because what they have at quarterback is
- 32:33Speaker 1: the rich man's Kirk Cousins. And what I mean by
- 32:36Speaker 1: that is if everything is good around Kirk Cousins, I
- 32:38Speaker 1: think it was Scott McLuhan used to be the GM
- 32:40Speaker 1: at Washington made this point. If everything's good, everything's great
- 32:43Speaker 1: around Kirk Cousins, you can win some things. And I
- 32:45Speaker 1: think what we saw by the end of Kirk Cousins
- 32:47Speaker 1: time in Minnesota was if everything's great around him, you
- 32:50Speaker 1: can get to the division round of the playoffs.
- 32:52Speaker 2: There's a reason the Shanahan disciples got Kirk Cousins, their guy.
- 32:56Speaker 1: That is correct.
- 32:57Speaker 2: For 10 plus years now.
- 32:59Speaker 4: Right.
- 32:59Speaker 1: But you could only get it so far with Jared Goff.
- 33:03Speaker 1: You make everything great around him, and you can at
- 33:06Speaker 1: least get to a Super Bowl. I've seen it happen, right?
- 33:10Speaker 1: You could probably win a Super Bowl if you did
- 33:13Speaker 1: everything great around him. That interior offensive line situation is
- 33:19Speaker 1: the opposite of great, right? And so if they can't
- 33:22Speaker 1: solidify that run game that was such a big deal
- 33:25Speaker 1: for them last year, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 33:27Speaker 1: You don't have a quarterback who can overcome. That's not
- 33:30Speaker 1: the kind of guy that you got. And you've got
- 33:31Speaker 1: a mentality of a team that requires you to hit
- 33:34Speaker 1: people in the mouth. Y'all going to need to start
- 33:36Speaker 1: hitting some people in the mouth. Otherwise, they're going to
- 33:38Speaker 1: miss the playoffs. And it's going to really stink because
- 33:41Speaker 1: I'm actually invested in this. Like, I have moments like
- 33:45Speaker 1: when Brian Branch, they called that, Brian Branch made that
- 33:48Speaker 1: interception and took it back to the house. And then
- 33:50Speaker 1: they called those two penalties. Dude, the mood swing I
- 33:53Speaker 1: had from when he got in to seeing all the flags,
- 33:57Speaker 1: I was just, This is not.
- 33:59Speaker 2: That's how you know they got you.
- 34:02Speaker 1: That was exactly how... Look, I fully knew they got
- 34:05Speaker 1: me when J-Mo threw that goddamn interception last year during
- 34:09Speaker 1: the playoffs.
- 34:10Speaker 2: They just locked him up, too. He's going to be
- 34:12Speaker 2: in your life for a couple more years.
- 34:13Speaker 1: Whose idea was that? You can't give him no money
- 34:16Speaker 1: up front. What are you talking about?
- 34:19Speaker 2: You got... Some people have to be on one-year deals forever.
- 34:23Speaker 3: For life.
- 34:25Speaker 1: For life.
- 34:26Speaker 2: I think the thing that I think is interesting to
- 34:28Speaker 2: me that you pointed out is you talked about the
- 34:31Speaker 2: identity of that team. And Dan Campbell is on that
- 34:33Speaker 2: Marshawn Lynch run through MF's face. Yes. That is his
- 34:37Speaker 2: whole philosophy of coaching. And again, when you're struggling center
- 34:41Speaker 2: guard guard, that's not going to be as much.
- 34:43Speaker 4: Of an option.
- 34:43Speaker 3: Bad news, man. It's bad news.
- 34:45Speaker 1: I'm nervous.
- 34:46Speaker 4: I'm nervous.
- 34:46Speaker 3: I'm really, really nervous.
- 34:49Speaker 2: All right.
- 34:50Speaker 1: But at least there's the Bears.
- 34:51Speaker 2: Yeah. Next week, you got the Bears and Ben Johnson
- 34:55Speaker 2: coming back.
- 34:56Speaker 1: That's that schedule, though. They're we're going to test the
- 35:00Speaker 1: resolve of this team, because if you go look at that,
- 35:02Speaker 1: they got like the Bears and the Browns. I want
- 35:04Speaker 1: to I think they get the Bears, the Browns in
- 35:06Speaker 1: the line and the Giants. And then other than that,
- 35:09Speaker 1: it's like Vikings, Ravens, Chiefs.
- 35:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I think they have the AFC West and, you know,
- 35:19Speaker 2: obviously their own division, which might be the toughest in football.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Well, they have their own division. Oh, they got to
- 35:23Speaker 1: play the Bucs? So, yeah, here's what we're looking at now,
- 35:25Speaker 1: just so you know for my guys. Bears at the Ravens.
- 35:29Speaker 1: Browns at the Bengals. Okay, you know, okay. At the Chiefs.
- 35:35Speaker 1: Bucs at home. Vikings at home. At the Commandos. At
- 35:39Speaker 1: the Lions. I think that's when they get, no, the
- 35:42Speaker 1: Bucs not then. Home for the Giants. Thanksgiving against the Packers. Yeah,
- 35:50Speaker 1: the bye is after the bucks. I'm sorry.
- 35:52Speaker 3: Can we talk about something else?
- 35:53Speaker 2: All right. Speaking of people making new destinations, Aaron Rodgers
- 35:59Speaker 2: playing for his new team. He threw for four touchdowns
- 36:01Speaker 2: in a 34-32 win against the Jets. After the game,
- 36:04Speaker 2: he took a bit of a victory lap. Let's take
- 36:06Speaker 2: a listen.
- 36:07Speaker 8: You spoke about the meeting with Aaron Glenn on McAfee
- 36:11Speaker 8: a few months ago. Beating him, is there significance in
- 36:14Speaker 8: that since he basically told you to your face that
- 36:17Speaker 8: he didn't think you.
- 36:18Speaker 4: Were right for that team? Yes, that's what he did.
- 36:22Speaker 8: So there's significance in beating him for you?
- 36:24Speaker 2: I was happy to beat everybody associated with the Jets.
- 36:29Speaker 5: Hey, man.
- 36:32Speaker 1: We all acknowledge that Aaron Rodgers is a bit of
- 36:33Speaker 1: a grump. Can't blame him for that one at all.
- 36:37Speaker 1: They did make him fly across the country to fire him.
- 36:41Speaker 2: To break him up with him, yeah.
- 36:43Speaker 1: That did happen. They made him get on the plane
- 36:46Speaker 1: to shit can him. They could have easily got on
- 36:48Speaker 1: the plane to go to his house to shit can him. No,
- 36:50Speaker 1: they brought him in and they canned him. And look,
- 36:53Speaker 1: they both look to be better off without each other.
- 36:56Speaker 1: I felt like that it may have been the best
- 36:57Speaker 1: Justin Fields game I had ever seen. Like he looked
- 37:00Speaker 1: more like a poised, composed, ready to do it quarterback
- 37:04Speaker 1: than I think that I had seen him look In
- 37:06Speaker 1: his time.
- 37:07Speaker 2: They're just leaning, they're leaning into his strengths. It looks,
- 37:09Speaker 2: it looks like he's playing at Ohio State.
- 37:11Speaker 1: But look, the best era, the best version of Justin
- 37:13Speaker 1: Fields that we had seen is the one that ran
- 37:15Speaker 1: for 1,200 yards.
- 37:16Speaker 2: Okay.
- 37:17Speaker 1: Yes, he had the two Russian touchdowns, whatever. 16 for 22,
- 37:21Speaker 1: 218 yards, a touchdown, no picks. That's 10 yards in attempt.
- 37:24Speaker 1: And he, it looked different. Like this was I watched
- 37:28Speaker 1: that game with my man, Josh. He is a Jets fan.
- 37:31Speaker 1: And I have been watching Jets games intermittently with him
- 37:33Speaker 1: for the last nine years. And I've never seen him
- 37:36Speaker 1: this happy about the Jets. And that was in a loss.
- 37:39Speaker 1: Right now, of course, that fumble on that kickoff felt
- 37:42Speaker 1: very familiar to him.
- 37:44Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the world he resides in.
- 37:46Speaker 1: That was Jetsy. That was real Jetsy. Like, Ryan, that
- 37:49Speaker 1: reminds me. How long have you been living here?
- 37:52Speaker 2: I think we moved here the same year. So eight
- 37:55Speaker 2: or nine years now.
- 37:56Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 37:56Speaker 1: So this is football season nine for you. There are
- 37:58Speaker 1: two football teams in this city. It is year nine,
- 38:00Speaker 1: and we've seen one good football season from the local teams. Yeah.
- 38:05Speaker 3: That year, the Giants won a playoff game.
- 38:06Speaker 2: With Daniel Jones.
- 38:08Speaker 1: With Daniel Jones.
- 38:08Speaker 4: Yes.
- 38:09Speaker 1: Like that is, that is, by the way, somebody looked good.
- 38:11Speaker 1: Somebody looked pretty good on Sunday.
- 38:13Speaker 2: Someone looked good in a new spot.
- 38:14Speaker 1: Yep. But he all, he looked good in part because
- 38:17Speaker 1: the other team looked bad. They looked like they was
- 38:20Speaker 1: going to fire their coach week one. But anyway, Aaron
- 38:23Speaker 1: Rodgers was dealing Jack. Like there were moments where it
- 38:26Speaker 1: still looked like this new version of Aaron Rodgers, but
- 38:28Speaker 1: that was four touchdown passes and he looked good. Like
- 38:32Speaker 1: if he can look anything like that for the rest
- 38:35Speaker 1: of the year, like maybe this is his last hurrah
- 38:38Speaker 1: and ain't no telling what, what's the word I'm looking for?
- 38:40Speaker 1: Homeopathic remedies that he might've, you know, come across in
- 38:44Speaker 1: the off season. If he's going to look like that
- 38:46Speaker 1: and we got on the Steelers, like you, you, The
- 38:48Speaker 1: best quarterback you could get was Aaron Rodgers. This is
- 38:50Speaker 1: what you were playing for. Okay. Hey, if he looks
- 38:53Speaker 1: like that, they go win a playoff game for the
- 38:57Speaker 1: first time since, yeah, they ain't won a playoff game
- 39:02Speaker 1: since Obama.
- 39:03Speaker 2: Yeah, it's been a long time. And you assume Mike
- 39:05Speaker 2: Tomlin's not going to be giving up 32 points every
- 39:07Speaker 2: weekend and week out.
- 39:09Speaker 1: No, no, but hey, man, that's them New York Jets, baby. Like,
- 39:14Speaker 1: we'll see what it looks like at the end of
- 39:15Speaker 1: the year, but hey, man, my man A.G., you know
- 39:17Speaker 1: what I'm saying, is my man, H-Town, Northside, no less.
- 39:21Speaker 1: If Eric Lynn got the Jets looking like this, hey, man, shoot,
- 39:26Speaker 1: he keep that going fireman ed might even vote for
- 39:28Speaker 1: zoron well let me tell you if there's anything that
- 39:31Speaker 1: i can say with confidence about fireman ed he does
- 39:34Speaker 1: not live in the five.
- 39:35Speaker 2: Even if he did Even if he somehow, you know,
- 39:42Speaker 2: trekked from Staten Island to... That's exactly what I was
- 39:46Speaker 2: about to say. If he is in one.
- 39:48Speaker 1: Of the five boroughs, I know exactly which one it is.
- 39:52Speaker 2: I promise you he was not casting a vote for
- 39:55Speaker 2: Big Z.
- 39:56Speaker 1: No.
- 39:59Speaker 2: All right. Anyway, last story here. You alluded to this.
- 40:02Speaker 2: The Dolphins got blown out by Daniel Jones and the Colts.
- 40:06Speaker 2: They lost 33 to 8. Daniel Jones... The Colts became
- 40:09Speaker 2: the first team since 1977 to score on every possession,
- 40:14Speaker 2: according to ESPN research. Tyreek Hill noticeably upset on the sideline. Bo,
- 40:19Speaker 2: your thoughts.
- 40:20Speaker 1: One, I don't know how long they can allow him
- 40:22Speaker 1: to stay on that team. Like you and I were
- 40:25Speaker 1: just talking about the unceremonious end for Howard Stern.
- 40:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:29Speaker 1: And the truth is, if you are serious, you people
- 40:31Speaker 1: who have never worked in radio don't quite get this.
- 40:34Speaker 1: But this is the truth, man. If you are serious
- 40:36Speaker 1: and you decide that you're not going to bring Howard
- 40:38Speaker 1: Stern back, it can't be no farewell show.
- 40:42Speaker 5: No.
- 40:42Speaker 1: You're going to hate that show. That farewell show is
- 40:46Speaker 1: not going to be pleasant.
- 40:47Speaker 2: It doesn't matter how many people buy serious to listen
- 40:50Speaker 2: to that farewell show. It's not going to be worth it.
- 40:52Speaker 1: Broke people act a fool on their last radio show,
- 40:57Speaker 1: let alone a man with hundreds of millions of dollars.
- 41:00Speaker 1: You just can't let some people stick around while they're grumpy.
- 41:03Speaker 4: Right.
- 41:04Speaker 1: This is just the nature of the business. Tyreek Hill,
- 41:07Speaker 1: who they did not make the captain. Everybody seems out
- 41:10Speaker 1: on him. Y'all had to get rid of him. Like
- 41:12Speaker 1: bringing him back is a little bit crazy, given what
- 41:15Speaker 1: the circumstances are. And it's week one. He's on the
- 41:17Speaker 1: sideline looking like this. They've gotten beat by 25 points
- 41:22Speaker 1: three times in the four years that McDaniel has been there.
- 41:27Speaker 1: I think most of us like him. We would like
- 41:29Speaker 1: to see it go well for him. But that experiment
- 41:31Speaker 1: seems to have run out of rope.
- 41:34Speaker 2: You know, there's nothing wrong with being the offensive coordinator
- 41:37Speaker 2: for the 49ers or the Lions next year.
- 41:39Speaker 1: That is correct. Now, the problem, of course, here is
- 41:43Speaker 1: some of this is Mike McDaniel. But his wagon has
- 41:47Speaker 1: been hitched to a guy that I feel very confident
- 41:50Speaker 1: saying just ain't got it. And that's Tua. Like, I
- 41:54Speaker 1: just don't. If everything with him, if everything is going right,
- 41:59Speaker 1: he can do it is not simply about the surrounding talent.
- 42:02Speaker 1: It's about like the execution. If everything is running on time,
- 42:07Speaker 1: he's got this for you, right? Otherwise, not so much.
- 42:11Speaker 1: And that's before we talk about, you know, maybe out
- 42:14Speaker 1: here trying to kill him. Like we haven't even gotten
- 42:18Speaker 1: to that point, but that was... That was a staggeringly
- 42:22Speaker 1: embarrassing performance to come out of the gate.
- 42:25Speaker 2: For a team that the rumors were the vibes are bad,
- 42:29Speaker 2: the vibes are bad, the vibes are bad. And then
- 42:31Speaker 2: you get blown. The door is blown off you by
- 42:34Speaker 2: Daniel Jones.
- 42:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 42:36Speaker 1: And look, the rest of your division, the Patriots, they
- 42:38Speaker 1: didn't win against the Raiders, but I still think a
- 42:40Speaker 1: lot of it came out like, eh, could have been worse.
- 42:42Speaker 4: Right.
- 42:43Speaker 1: The Jets, not too shabby. Miami could not have been
- 42:47Speaker 1: worse could not have been worse but at once it
- 42:50Speaker 1: couldn't have been worse but also didn't feel like an
- 42:52Speaker 1: outlier performance.
- 42:54Speaker 2: Right it didn't feel I didn't feel like we're a
- 42:56Speaker 2: game where everything goes wrong you have bad fumble luck
- 42:58Speaker 2: you know you're driving like you you referenced you know
- 43:00Speaker 2: drop a kickoff or something but it was just they
- 43:04Speaker 2: they they did not it's never good when you're quitting
- 43:06Speaker 2: week one hey man.
- 43:08Speaker 1: Did you know that Zach Wilson is wearing number zero.
- 43:12Speaker 2: No, I did not. He's still in the league.
- 43:16Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah.
- 43:17Speaker 1: At age like 26, right?
- 43:18Speaker 4: Right.
- 43:18Speaker 1: Look, I don't like that they let people go willy-nilly
- 43:23Speaker 1: with the numbers. That feels like an old man take,
- 43:26Speaker 1: but it's chaos. I don't dig that.
- 43:29Speaker 2: We live in a society.
- 43:30Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 43:31Speaker 5: Right.
- 43:31Speaker 1: I don't dig it. And I think the, can they
- 43:33Speaker 1: wear a number zero? Nah, I don't think we should
- 43:35Speaker 1: have allowed that unless you were like, Jim Otto, double zero, maybe, right? Like,
- 43:39Speaker 1: I wasn't here for this. But, Wearing number zero is
- 43:44Speaker 1: not quarterback behavior. You understand what I'm saying? Like, I
- 43:48Speaker 1: don't think showing up to the press conference wearing all
- 43:51Speaker 1: the funny looking clothes is quarterback behavior either. Like, I
- 43:54Speaker 1: think the quarterback is a different role. You can put
- 43:56Speaker 1: yourself in a different way. If you are wearing number zero,
- 44:00Speaker 1: that's personal foul behavior.
- 44:03Speaker 3: You understand what I'm saying? That's commissioner's list behavior.
- 44:07Speaker 1: Like, number zero is for wild cards. you're not supposed
- 44:12Speaker 1: to be no wild card. Like that's, you know what
- 44:14Speaker 1: that is? That's a number for characters.
- 44:18Speaker 2: And Zach Wilson's a lot of things. He's not a character.
- 44:20Speaker 1: He is not a character. No, no, no, no, no.
- 44:22Speaker 1: He is not. Or at the very least, even if
- 44:25Speaker 1: you are a character, like Cam Newton didn't go full
- 44:27Speaker 1: character until after he was somebody's quarterback.
- 44:30Speaker 4: Right.
- 44:30Speaker 1: The quarterback is not supposed to be a character. I
- 44:34Speaker 1: saw Kyler Murray wearing some funny looking pink pants coming
- 44:37Speaker 1: in the studio and I was in the stadium and.
- 44:39Speaker 3: I was like, hey man, It's not quarterback behavior, brother.
- 44:43Speaker 3: That's character behavior.
- 44:45Speaker 2: All right, Bo, we've opened up the voicemail line, you know,
- 44:52Speaker 2: to anything and everything. Got some good submissions this week.
- 44:56Speaker 2: Let's take a listen.
- 44:57Speaker 4: Hey, Bo.
- 44:59Speaker 6: I'm a childless man like yourself who's a little older,
- 45:04Speaker 6: younger than you, but still a little on the older side.
- 45:07Speaker 6: My friends are now starting to finally have kids. I
- 45:11Speaker 6: don't interact with a lot of children in my current
- 45:15Speaker 6: state in life. However, I feel like kids are ruder
- 45:21Speaker 6: than they used to be. And I was wondering if
- 45:24Speaker 6: you felt the same or if it's just like every
- 45:27Speaker 6: generation thinks the younger generation is a little ruder. It's
- 45:31Speaker 6: mostly that they just cut in front of me. I
- 45:33Speaker 6: don't know what it is, but I feel like with
- 45:36Speaker 6: this group of children more than others, adults are just
- 45:39Speaker 6: kind of invisible to them.
- 45:43Speaker 3: That's an interesting question. Ryan, there was a lot of
- 45:50Speaker 3: subtle shade.
- 45:51Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't know if you're saying kids are ruder
- 45:55Speaker 2: or parents are worse.
- 45:56Speaker 1: No, I'm talking about all that shit before.
- 45:58Speaker 3: You know, I'm a little on the older side.
- 45:59Speaker 1: You know, not as old as you.
- 46:02Speaker 2: I didn't think we had. I think I took that
- 46:05Speaker 2: personally situation.
- 46:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I was just kind of like, oh, OK. Like,
- 46:09Speaker 1: I guess I'll answer your question. I don't know, man.
- 46:12Speaker 1: You got to remember, kids love me. Like, I am.
- 46:15Speaker 1: I don't know why. I am everybody's favorite uncle type
- 46:18Speaker 1: of situation with kids. And they might be a little
- 46:21Speaker 1: ruder than they used to be, but you know what
- 46:23Speaker 1: they still are? Kids, right? You give them that look,
- 46:27Speaker 1: they still know what that look means. Like, and especially
- 46:30Speaker 1: if they ain't never really got it before, it really
- 46:33Speaker 1: hits them from a stranger grown up that they kind
- 46:37Speaker 1: of know a little bit, though. They respond. Oh, yeah.
- 46:40Speaker 5: Hey.
- 46:41Speaker 1: Because they know what they're not supposed to be doing. Like,
- 46:43Speaker 1: that is one of my favorite things about, like, kids
- 46:45Speaker 1: before they're old enough to talk. Like, Ryan, your son's
- 46:47Speaker 1: about two. You know exactly what I'm talking about. They
- 46:50Speaker 1: know when they're not supposed to be doing something. Yes.
- 46:52Speaker 1: And when you catch them in it and just give
- 46:54Speaker 1: them that look like, you know you're not supposed to
- 46:57Speaker 1: be doing that. You see it wash over them like.
- 47:00Speaker 2: My son is not old enough to be rude, but
- 47:02Speaker 2: he's certainly old enough to know when he's not supposed
- 47:04Speaker 2: to be doing stuff. Yes. Mostly because he thinks it's funny. Yes.
- 47:08Speaker 1: But they give that. Peek around the corner. They still
- 47:13Speaker 1: do all of that stuff.
- 47:13Speaker 2: They got the smart, yeah.
- 47:14Speaker 7: Yep.
- 47:15Speaker 1: And when you give them the A, they chill out.
- 47:20Speaker 1: And sometimes they chuckle and laugh about it. Like, I
- 47:23Speaker 1: remember the first time with Nick's daughter. She was small
- 47:25Speaker 1: enough for that. She did try to run some of
- 47:27Speaker 1: that game on me. Because, of course, she would think
- 47:28Speaker 1: she could run game on me. I'd give her the world.
- 47:30Speaker 4: Right?
- 47:31Speaker 1: She tried to run that game on me, and I
- 47:32Speaker 1: just looked at her like... What did you say? And
- 47:34Speaker 1: she was just like, okay, tried it. Just see if
- 47:38Speaker 1: it will work.
- 47:38Speaker 2: Well, here's the thing. When they're two and you're the grown-up,
- 47:42Speaker 2: you've got to be the winner in that situation.
- 47:44Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the thing. You can't be outsmarted.
- 47:45Speaker 2: You can't be outsmarted. You can try not to be
- 47:47Speaker 2: outsmarted by a two-year-old.
- 47:48Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Last thing, you can't negotiate with terrorists. Just
- 47:53Speaker 1: throwing it out there.
- 47:55Speaker 2: All right, here's our next one.
- 47:57Speaker 5: What's up, folks? This is your boy, Javon. Coming out
- 48:00Speaker 5: of the southwest side of H-Town by way of Louisiana,
- 48:03Speaker 5: Lake Charles, I-10 by 10. Don't stop inviting. You already
- 48:07Speaker 5: know what it is. Man, I got a question for you.
- 48:10Speaker 5: I know you grew up in the mid-90s in Houston
- 48:13Speaker 5: on the north side, but what are your thoughts on
- 48:17Speaker 5: screw music? I've never heard you talk about it. Maybe
- 48:21Speaker 5: you have before, but I'm just curious. Do you like it? Like,
- 48:24Speaker 5: what do you think of it? Like, do you still
- 48:26Speaker 5: listen to it? You grew up in an era where
- 48:28Speaker 5: that was basically coming about in Houston. So I'm just
- 48:31Speaker 5: curious your take on screw music. And, you know, if
- 48:35Speaker 5: you like it, how do you feel it represents Houston?
- 48:37Speaker 5: Appreciate it, man.
- 48:38Speaker 4: Love the show.
- 48:40Speaker 1: Hey, Rice, a little bit of you, a little bit
- 48:41Speaker 1: of me, right?
- 48:42Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 48:43Speaker 1: Coming from Lake Charles to Houston. Of course, my part
- 48:46Speaker 1: of Houston and his part of Houston are damn near
- 48:48Speaker 1: as far from each other as Lake Charles and Houston,
- 48:50Speaker 1: but that's a discussion for another day.
- 48:52Speaker 2: That's like Manhattan and Brooklyn.
- 48:54Speaker 4: Yes.
- 48:54Speaker 1: So, yeah, the screw thing got popping when I was
- 48:57Speaker 1: in high school. Like, I want to say Pimp the
- 48:59Speaker 1: Pin came out when I was in 10th or 11th grade.
- 49:03Speaker 3: Like, I know it's 95, and those of you who
- 49:04Speaker 3: are not from Houston.
- 49:05Speaker 1: Draped up and dripped out, know what I'm talking about.
- 49:08Speaker 1: Three in the morning, got the burner out the stash spot.
- 49:11Speaker 1: That joint, right? Um... Not for me. Not for me.
- 49:18Speaker 1: And the reason it's not for me is actually like
- 49:21Speaker 1: fairly simple I think it's obvious if you listen to
- 49:23Speaker 1: screw a couple things one I don't I ain't never
- 49:27Speaker 1: said no lean right like the the the setting for
- 49:30Speaker 1: this music is just always been a bit lost on
- 49:34Speaker 1: me um but there are things like You chop and
- 49:38Speaker 1: screw to write Slow Jam, I'm with it. Like, there
- 49:41Speaker 1: are songs that you can chop and screw that I'll
- 49:43Speaker 1: go for. My thing with Screw Tapes was.
- 49:50Speaker 1: It was an absolute and total lack of quality control.
- 49:56Speaker 1: They let anybody get on these songs, rap it, they
- 50:00Speaker 1: be like, man, he freestyling. I would hope so!
- 50:03Speaker 4: Yeah!
- 50:04Speaker 1: If you took the time to write that down and
- 50:07Speaker 1: edit it, what are you talking about, right? And so
- 50:09Speaker 1: they let anybody in there on them songs talk about anything,
- 50:14Speaker 1: talk about nothing. So when you get cats that can
- 50:16Speaker 1: actually rap and get on it. And so when the
- 50:18Speaker 1: Swisher House stuff started coming out and they had more
- 50:20Speaker 1: cats that could rap, I'm like, okay, I can see
- 50:23Speaker 1: what's going on here. But it was just... It also was,
- 50:27Speaker 1: and this is for me, and this changed over time.
- 50:29Speaker 1: The Mixtape Messiah series, when Commillionaire came out there and
- 50:31Speaker 1: was like, hey man, we got to step the game up.
- 50:33Speaker 1: And you look at how much better rappers from Houston
- 50:35Speaker 1: are now than they were then. That was a much
- 50:38Speaker 1: more impactful piece of media than I think anybody gives
- 50:41Speaker 1: you credit for because it was like, look man, the
- 50:42Speaker 1: rest of the country out here laughing at us. I
- 50:44Speaker 1: don't know if it was going that far, but as
- 50:46Speaker 1: somebody who knew him back in the day, I knew
- 50:48Speaker 1: exactly where he was coming from.
- 50:49Speaker 3: I knew what he was into.
- 50:50Speaker 1: I knew all that stuff, right? I totally get it.
- 50:54Speaker 1: But For me, it just got to a point that
- 50:58Speaker 1: as I'm listening to it, that I understand that locally
- 51:02Speaker 1: there is a bit of a rejection of what was
- 51:05Speaker 1: considered to be quote unquote hip hop versus rap because
- 51:08Speaker 1: of the rejection that Southerners felt from those people toward
- 51:12Speaker 1: their culture and toward their music. Like, you know, it's
- 51:15Speaker 1: the Pimp C line, these country rap tunes. But let
- 51:17Speaker 1: me tell you what Pimp C had, incredibly high quality control. Right? Like,
- 51:22Speaker 1: that was in place there. And so for me and
- 51:24Speaker 1: them Screwtastes, they were just cranking them bad boys out.
- 51:26Speaker 1: Because they were like, man, these cats don't care if
- 51:27Speaker 1: anybody can rap. Just give them some beats, and that'll
- 51:31Speaker 1: do the job. And me, as somebody who did like
- 51:34Speaker 1: all that hip-hop and was into different stuff, I just
- 51:37Speaker 1: wanted the music to be a little bit better. But
- 51:39Speaker 1: when it was good, it was good.
- 51:42Speaker 2: All right, here's our next one.
- 51:44Speaker 8: Hi, Bo.
- 51:45Speaker 7: Enjoy the show. Just wondering from your perspective, at this
- 51:48Speaker 7: point in their respective careers, Whose rap legacy is more salvageable?
- 51:55Speaker 7: Is it Kanye or is it Drake? You asked me,
- 51:59Speaker 7: both of them have taken so many self-inflicted L's, it's
- 52:02Speaker 7: impossible to see how any one of them would be
- 52:07Speaker 7: able to get back on the winning track of any way.
- 52:11Speaker 7: And I don't see a path either way. So, in
- 52:15Speaker 7: your opinion, who do you think has the better shot?
- 52:18Speaker 3: Nah, brother, I don't think anybody's winning this contest.
- 52:22Speaker 1: One, especially for Kanye, he's too old. He's too old,
- 52:26Speaker 1: and I don't know how he could put together anything
- 52:28Speaker 1: dope enough that the people that are out on him
- 52:32Speaker 1: would care to check it out. I don't think he
- 52:34Speaker 1: has anything left, and I need to be careful because
- 52:37Speaker 1: I haven't listened to anything he's made in seven years,
- 52:40Speaker 1: at least at this point.
- 52:40Speaker 2: It's been a long time.
- 52:41Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. I think the last thing I checked out
- 52:44Speaker 1: was the record he did in Wyoming, the Ye Joint.
- 52:48Speaker 1: And so I was just like, all right, hey man,
- 52:50Speaker 1: it happens.
- 52:51Speaker 3: Sometimes you ain't got nothing left, right?
- 52:55Speaker 1: With Drake, I don't know if he can get it back.
- 52:59Speaker 1: Like part of what he had was a bit of
- 53:00Speaker 1: a vibe or as the kids say, an aura. I
- 53:03Speaker 1: don't know if he can get it back, but he's
- 53:05Speaker 1: also 39 years old. Like he might have to go
- 53:08Speaker 1: away for a long time and come back with like
- 53:10Speaker 1: one of them, like the LL Cool J album that
- 53:12Speaker 1: just came out that he did with Q-Tip. Like look man,
- 53:14Speaker 1: the old dudes all came back and wrecked shop this year.
- 53:17Speaker 1: They all came back at Rep Shop. LL Cool J,
- 53:21Speaker 1: you know, the Clips joint ain't my favorite, but they
- 53:23Speaker 1: came and they did it. And there's other examples of
- 53:25Speaker 1: these cats that came back around. That Raekwon album, not
- 53:28Speaker 1: my favorite, but not bad. I still need to listen
- 53:30Speaker 1: to the new Supreme clientele. But people of that generation
- 53:33Speaker 1: came back and made a lot of really good records.
- 53:35Speaker 1: But these are guys that go back to a time
- 53:37Speaker 1: where the thing that was most important was how good
- 53:39Speaker 1: you could rap. And Drake is a really good rapper
- 53:42Speaker 1: when he's on it, but it was the vibes, man.
- 53:45Speaker 1: Like that's what he was selling as much as anything
- 53:47Speaker 1: else was vibes and lifestyle.
- 53:49Speaker 3: People don't believe in no more.
- 53:50Speaker 2: And like you said, we talked about these people are old.
- 53:54Speaker 2: Rap's a young game. And, you know, after 10, how
- 53:58Speaker 2: many of these great rappers last past 10 years, right?
- 54:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 54:02Speaker 2: 10, 15 years. I mean, and that's how, I mean,
- 54:04Speaker 2: how far Kanye and Drake are going back.
- 54:06Speaker 1: Yeah, look, man, Drake, let's say, Drake has had a very,
- 54:08Speaker 1: very long career. Like, the expectation that you could keep
- 54:11Speaker 1: this going at this point is asking for a lot
- 54:14Speaker 1: out of this dude. But, hey, man, once people stop
- 54:17Speaker 1: believing you, it's hard. Only man to come back from
- 54:22Speaker 1: us not believing him was Rick Ross. It's hard to
- 54:26Speaker 1: come back from that. And people just don't believe it.
- 54:30Speaker 1: And I don't think that he matured in a way where, look,
- 54:32Speaker 1: his base, man, people 40 years old now. And they,
- 54:36Speaker 1: only people that still want to hear what Drake used
- 54:38Speaker 1: to be or what Drake has become is suckers.
- 54:42Speaker 2: All right, here's our last one.
- 54:44Speaker 4: What's going on, Bo? It's Jamal from D.C. Not sure
- 54:48Speaker 4: if you came across this yet, but Starz has a
- 54:50Speaker 4: documentary about Magic City. And so I'm just curious to
- 54:54Speaker 4: see If you have any interesting or podcast appropriate stories
- 54:59Speaker 4: about about times that you may have been to Magic City.
- 55:04Speaker 4: Long time listener. Appreciate it. Keep it up.
- 55:09Speaker 1: The first time I went to a gentleman's establishment, I
- 55:11Speaker 1: was 18 years old and I went to Magic City
- 55:14Speaker 1: and I didn't know anything like that was possible. The
- 55:18Speaker 1: second time I went to Magic City, I was 21
- 55:20Speaker 1: years old. And I spent the last $ 35 I had
- 55:24Speaker 1: to my name at Magic City. I should stop there.
