- 0:31Speaker 1: our guy Ross Jackson back onto the show, of course
- 0:33Speaker 1: Louisiana Sports dot Net and the Lockdown Saints podcast.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Hey man, how are you heybody doing great? Thanks be
- 0:39Speaker 2: having me on.
- 0:40Speaker 1: It's always our pleasure. We appreciate you.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Hey.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Let's start with I guess the most current news here.
- 0:45Speaker 1: ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported just a bit ago that the
- 0:49Speaker 1: Saints are hosting free agent offensive guard help me out here,
- 0:52Speaker 1: Dylan Rata radms. Okay, fill us in on what you
- 0:58Speaker 1: know about about Raddin and what the story is here
- 1:02Speaker 1: from the New Orleans perspective.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Yeah, former North Dakota State University offensive lineman, and I
- 1:08Speaker 2: really really enjoyed his tape back in twenty twenty one,
- 1:11Speaker 2: but he was coming in. He was a second rounder
- 1:13Speaker 2: by the by the Tennessee Titans draft and kind of
- 1:16Speaker 2: in the mid fifties, but was a fringe first round
- 1:18Speaker 2: guy that year. He's actually the reason, Matt why anytime
- 1:21Speaker 2: that there's a North Dakota State University offensive lineman and
- 1:25Speaker 2: a draft I go and watch their tape because Ratten's
- 1:28Speaker 2: was awesome. I mean, just an absolute mall or very physical,
- 1:31Speaker 2: kind of violent guy, particularly in the run game, and
- 1:35Speaker 2: you know has had to kind of bounce around a
- 1:37Speaker 2: little bit position to position. Since he got into the
- 1:40Speaker 2: pros back in twenty twenty one, he's played both tackle
- 1:43Speaker 2: spots and both guard spots, with the majority of his
- 1:46Speaker 2: starting stats coming last year at right guard. Started fifteen
- 1:50Speaker 2: games there, missed two games with a shoulder injury, but
- 1:52Speaker 2: not a lot of injury history, although he did have
- 1:54Speaker 2: a late twenty twenty two ACL injury, but that seems
- 1:57Speaker 2: to not be an issue anymore at this point. So
- 2:00Speaker 2: really athletic, very physical, and violent guy that I think
- 2:05Speaker 2: could potentially be a starter for the Saints who need
- 2:09Speaker 2: to address that left guard spot here over the course
- 2:12Speaker 2: of regions against the draft.
- 2:14Speaker 1: I love that I'm sitting here trying to pronounce his
- 2:17Speaker 1: name and Ross is citing his tape from twenty twenty.
- 2:22Speaker 1: That's why you do what you do.
- 2:23Speaker 2: He was so much fun.
- 2:26Speaker 1: That's that's why you're a Saints expert. That's why I'm
- 2:30Speaker 1: sitting here giving a hot takes and asking questions. Okay,
- 2:35Speaker 1: So it would stand a reason that there's a need.
- 2:38Speaker 1: And I saw that Lucas Patrick, who's really a versatile
- 2:41Speaker 1: guy for the Saints this year, is taking a free
- 2:43Speaker 1: agent visit to Cincinnati, so catch us up. There is
- 2:47Speaker 1: there a desire potentially to bring Patrick back to New Orleans.
- 2:51Speaker 2: I'm sure there's likely some interest there, but I think
- 2:56Speaker 2: for Lucas Patrick, He's also taken a visit with the
- 2:59Speaker 2: Seattle Sea are still looking to address their offensive line.
- 3:02Speaker 2: They had hosted him on the same day they hosted
- 3:05Speaker 2: Tevin Jenkins, and Jenkins today signed with the Cleveland Browns
- 3:08Speaker 2: up out of nowhere, and so I think Seattle still
- 3:11Speaker 2: along with Cincinnati, are still looking to address that. So
- 3:14Speaker 2: I think there's probably a greater chance that he ends
- 3:16Speaker 2: up with one of those two teams, then he returned
- 3:19Speaker 2: than it is that he returns to New Orleans. But
- 3:22Speaker 2: I would say that the door is probably open there.
- 3:25Speaker 2: I mean, we've seen the Saints trying to play this
- 3:27Speaker 2: a little bit of run it back tune over the
- 3:29Speaker 2: course of the off season, particularly over in the offensive side,
- 3:32Speaker 2: So it wouldn't be a shock to see a guy
- 3:34Speaker 2: like Lucas Patrick back. But I think the Saints are
- 3:36Speaker 2: probably looking for a more consistent, younger, potentially starter, and
- 3:41Speaker 2: that's one of the reasons why Rattens makes a lot
- 3:44Speaker 2: of sense. He's going to turn twenty seven in the
- 3:45Speaker 2: matter of eight days, and so if you end up
- 3:48Speaker 2: finding this guy and you're able to get better play
- 3:50Speaker 2: out of a timosee, then all of a sudden, you've
- 3:53Speaker 2: got a potential starter for at least the next future,
- 3:56Speaker 2: a piece of your piece of your future in terms
- 3:58Speaker 2: of the next few years. The sealing with a guy
- 4:01Speaker 2: like Radens is probably gonna be a little bit more appealing.
- 4:03Speaker 2: It's just ether being a younger option than the way
- 4:06Speaker 2: that things kind of transpired over the course of last
- 4:08Speaker 2: year with Lucas Patrick, which was a strong start, but
- 4:10Speaker 2: just the lack of ability to stay healthy and a
- 4:12Speaker 2: lack of ability to play consistently throughout.
- 4:14Speaker 1: He's on Twitter at Ross Jackson NOLA. Give m a follow.
- 4:17Speaker 1: What does their interest in a guy like Radden's mean
- 4:20Speaker 1: for the recent signing of Will Clap and a recent
- 4:24Speaker 1: draft pick in Nick SALDEVERI, Well, the.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Biggest thing that it probably did was that it made
- 4:29Speaker 2: me can my piece about my critical they avoid my
- 4:33Speaker 2: scathing review of them not addressing their starting offensive line.
- 4:38Speaker 2: I had to delete that piece the second that I
- 4:40Speaker 2: had that one ready. Well, I haven't signed him yet,
- 4:43Speaker 2: so we'll see, but at least the efforts there. I
- 4:45Speaker 2: think guys like little Clap as well as Landing Young
- 4:48Speaker 2: are excellent depth signings and dredge of their ability to
- 4:51Speaker 2: be versatile. You know, you've got a guy in Will
- 4:53Speaker 2: Clap that can play all three interior spots, center and
- 4:55Speaker 2: both guard spots. And then you have a guy in
- 4:57Speaker 2: Landing Young that is a you know, born and Britt's
- 5:01Speaker 2: tackle but has transitioned over to playing a little bit
- 5:04Speaker 2: more on the interior offensive line here over the course
- 5:07Speaker 2: of the past two years. And so those guys effectively
- 5:09Speaker 2: amongst the two of them, and then you add in
- 5:11Speaker 2: a guy like let's just say Nick sal Deverari, for instance,
- 5:14Speaker 2: you add him man, and all of a sudden, you've
- 5:16Speaker 2: got guys that can man your entire offensive line as
- 5:19Speaker 2: depth pieces if you need. And we know that that's
- 5:22Speaker 2: some sustincts have had to turn to in the recent past.
- 5:24Speaker 2: So I think that those guys are probably signed with
- 5:27Speaker 2: the expectation, especially on one year deals, that they'll be
- 5:31Speaker 2: depth players but have starter but have starter potential, or
- 5:35Speaker 2: could they intribute looked at and starters in a pinchriest
- 5:38Speaker 2: and say, but I think the idea here is still
- 5:40Speaker 2: try to find somebody that can go out there and
- 5:41Speaker 2: be your day one week one starter at left guard.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Could that player be part of the draft class? I mean,
- 5:50Speaker 1: could they draft the the interior alignment instead of trying
- 5:52Speaker 1: to find in free agency?
- 5:54Speaker 2: Yeah, certainly could, and that's something you don't have to
- 5:56Speaker 2: spend a first round pick on. I know a lot
- 5:59Speaker 2: of people have talked about Will Campbell out of LSU.
- 6:01Speaker 2: A lot of some NFL teams see him as a guard.
- 6:03Speaker 2: A lot more NFL teams see him as a tackle,
- 6:05Speaker 2: especially after he came in and had positive measurements on
- 6:08Speaker 2: his arm length, which was going to be a big
- 6:09Speaker 2: question mark around him. But unless you're gonna, you know,
- 6:12Speaker 2: move one of your other tackles in l a. Stwong
- 6:15Speaker 2: afore Trevor fitting into the interior that you're probably not
- 6:19Speaker 2: going to draft a tackle at number nine. And so
- 6:22Speaker 2: if you can find somebody like I don't know, Gray
- 6:25Speaker 2: is Able, maybe out of North Dakota State University, I
- 6:27Speaker 2: think I've yeah, I always got to gravitate towards those
- 6:33Speaker 2: guys now, But he's the guy that a potential late
- 6:36Speaker 2: first round pick, but could be there at forty. A
- 6:39Speaker 2: Georgia offensive lineman Tate Radlete feels like an immediate starter
- 6:42Speaker 2: to me. A sub five second forty yard dash during
- 6:45Speaker 2: a time at the combine, really impressive, tenacious guy with
- 6:48Speaker 2: good speed and good athleticism. You could certainly find those
- 6:50Speaker 2: guys in the draft class. But one thing that we
- 6:52Speaker 2: do know about the Saints is they like to take it.
- 6:54Speaker 2: They like to take care of needs and free agency
- 6:56Speaker 2: so that they can go into the draft and still
- 6:59Speaker 2: invest in those positions they want to, but not necessarily
- 7:01Speaker 2: be in a situation where they have to walk away
- 7:03Speaker 2: with somebody in the draft to be a day one starter.
- 7:06Speaker 2: I think they'd like to take care of that with
- 7:07Speaker 2: a veteran first, and then if they draft somebody that
- 7:10Speaker 2: ends up competing and winning or injuries, put them in
- 7:12Speaker 2: that position and they'll be well prepared with what they
- 7:14Speaker 2: can do in the draft class. But I think they
- 7:16Speaker 2: want to handle things in free agency first.
- 7:18Speaker 1: All right, a couple more for you. So we're focusing
- 7:21Speaker 1: on offensive line here and notably that left guard spot.
- 7:23Speaker 1: What are the other through the first big wave of
- 7:27Speaker 1: free agency? What are the other priorities positions of need,
- 7:31Speaker 1: free agency or draft?
- 7:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I would say wide receivers still a place where
- 7:35Speaker 2: I could see this team invest and linebacker. Those are
- 7:38Speaker 2: two places where I could see the Saints going for
- 7:42Speaker 2: a veteran and not necessarily being too worried about getting younger,
- 7:47Speaker 2: which has been a big demand of this team over
- 7:49Speaker 2: the course of this offseason. I think both of those
- 7:51Speaker 2: spots are places where you're looking for veteran experience. I
- 7:55Speaker 2: had a story over at Louisiana's What's That Met earlier
- 7:57Speaker 2: this week that was about the linebacker position and the
- 8:00Speaker 2: gap between experience. Right, you've got over one hundred and
- 8:04Speaker 2: forty starts in the career of tomorrow, Davis, You've got
- 8:09Speaker 2: forty eight starts in the career of Pete Warner, and
- 8:13Speaker 2: then after that, your next linebacker with the most starts
- 8:17Speaker 2: is ne Fi Sool with two starts in his career.
- 8:19Speaker 2: And so I think, and while I think you know
- 8:22Speaker 2: they like ne Fi fool, while we know that that's
- 8:24Speaker 2: the case, I think that there are guys that are
- 8:26Speaker 2: out there on the market that allow you to kind
- 8:27Speaker 2: of create kind of a middle class of experience within
- 8:31Speaker 2: that position room that could certainly be helpful for this team.
- 8:34Speaker 2: So I would say that those are two spots. And
- 8:36Speaker 2: then I'm curious to know if they're curious to see
- 8:38Speaker 2: if the Thinks feel really good about where they are
- 8:40Speaker 2: at cornerback or if they might look to see if
- 8:42Speaker 2: they can still find a fourth starting caliber corner to
- 8:45Speaker 2: go along with Isaac Adam Clelly mcintry and Alonte Taylor.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Hey, before you go, we have a story up over
- 8:52Speaker 1: Louisiana Sports one Net, one of the betting site sports
- 8:55Speaker 1: betting Dot Ag updated the odds now that this first
- 9:00Speaker 1: wave of free agency has gone the odds for the
- 9:02Speaker 1: eight division winners and probably not a great surprise, but
- 9:06Speaker 1: the Saints are picked last in the NFC South, also
- 9:13Speaker 1: the worst odds to win the NFC. What do you make,
- 9:17Speaker 1: if anything, of the fact that through this wave of
- 9:19Speaker 1: free agency, the odds makers anyway don't seem to think
- 9:22Speaker 1: the Saints have actually improved.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't say that I blame them, right because
- 9:26Speaker 2: every place that they have signed somebody that's a fresh space,
- 9:30Speaker 2: it's kind of been accompanied with a loss. Right, they
- 9:33Speaker 2: signed Justin Reid, which is easily the best acquisition of
- 9:36Speaker 2: the off season so far in terms of a new
- 9:37Speaker 2: face that came on the heels of losing the Will
- 9:40Speaker 2: Harris people outside of New Orleans and odds bakers and
- 9:44Speaker 2: all those other people that, look, they have the big
- 9:46Speaker 2: buildings for a reason, right, but you know people that
- 9:48Speaker 2: are doing that, those are in their frame of reference,
- 9:52Speaker 2: lateral moves for all as they know. And so I
- 9:54Speaker 2: think that where the Saints have been doing a lot
- 9:56Speaker 2: of billing needs because of departure, they haven't done a
- 10:02Speaker 2: ton of going out there and getting the big names
- 10:04Speaker 2: that incite the you know, that excite the odds makers
- 10:06Speaker 2: and things like that. So with that being the case,
- 10:08Speaker 2: you're going to start where you're finished. The things finish
- 10:10Speaker 2: at the bottom of their division, if it's amongst the
- 10:12Speaker 2: bottom of the conference, and that's likely where they're going
- 10:15Speaker 2: to remain for the most part unless they make a
- 10:17Speaker 2: big move that's going to get more national attention. So
- 10:20Speaker 2: it might take up until the draft than to actually
- 10:22Speaker 2: do that. And so unless these odds makers are looking
- 10:25Speaker 2: at what happened with the coaching staffs and the changes
- 10:27Speaker 2: there as kind of a net positive and the things
- 10:30Speaker 2: kind of haven't really moved the needle for themselves in
- 10:32Speaker 2: the eyes of those, you know, those onlookers, and so
- 10:35Speaker 2: I'm not super surprised to see that be the case.
- 10:38Speaker 1: For news, he has Ross Jackson and Louisiana Sports dot Net.
