- 0:03Speaker 1: Boulet Camp Podcast special guests. Here, my dog Isaac Palo
- 0:07Speaker 1: in the building.
- 0:07Speaker 2: How you doing.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Good to see you man. Likewise, so you have a
- 0:11Speaker 1: show coming up, I do explain because you always have
- 0:15Speaker 1: some cool events going on.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, So I wasn't gonna do anything this year
- 0:21Speaker 2: just because I've been so I've been so out of it,
- 0:23Speaker 2: you know, mentally, emotionally, with all kinds of shit. But
- 0:27Speaker 2: it's my thirtieth birthday this year, so.
- 0:29Speaker 1: It's a big, big, big birthday and thirty thirty. So
- 0:33Speaker 1: is the event kind of like in correlation with a
- 0:35Speaker 1: birthday thing? Yeah.
- 0:36Speaker 2: I usually do that because it's more incentsive for people
- 0:39Speaker 2: to come out. Right, Like, if they're not going to
- 0:40Speaker 2: support my art, well they.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Can come support it comes come part my birthday.
- 0:44Speaker 2: So you know, it gives you know, it's like a
- 0:47Speaker 2: it's cool. It's a double way to get people to
- 0:49Speaker 2: come out. But like I said, I wasn't gonna do
- 0:51Speaker 2: anything for my birthday this year. I was just gonna,
- 0:53Speaker 2: like I swear, I had like written it down. I'm like, dude,
- 0:56Speaker 2: I'm gonna just fucking go watch the sunrise on my
- 0:58Speaker 2: birthday by myself at the each and then call it
- 1:01Speaker 2: a year like that's it, and I'm like, you know
- 1:03Speaker 2: what I do with thirty? I should probably do something
- 1:06Speaker 2: special this one time at least, right, So yeah, I
- 1:10Speaker 2: like a month, like a month ago, I was like,
- 1:12Speaker 2: you know what, I'm gonna do a fucking show. But
- 1:14Speaker 2: instead of producing any brand new work, what essentially what
- 1:17Speaker 2: I'm doing is I have a few pieces from that
- 1:21Speaker 2: I've held on from every series of work over the
- 1:24Speaker 2: last like seven years, from twenty twenty to now, So
- 1:29Speaker 2: I figure I'll just show a couple of those pieces
- 1:32Speaker 2: from each body of work, almost like a retrospective. But
- 1:36Speaker 2: you know it's it's just because I did a show
- 1:38Speaker 2: in Paris, Arizona, New York and people from LA didn't
- 1:41Speaker 2: get to go see those shows, So that's work. People
- 1:44Speaker 2: never got a missing home for you, This is home.
- 1:46Speaker 2: So I figure, you know what, let me bring all
- 1:48Speaker 2: these work back home and then have a chance for
- 1:51Speaker 2: like home based people to come see it. And that's
- 1:54Speaker 2: what I'm doing. So it's like thirty thirty paintings or more?
- 1:57Speaker 1: Do you feel like because I feel like the art
- 1:59Speaker 1: market can be like the stock market, and we've seen
- 2:02Speaker 1: like a I feel like during COVID, there was like
- 2:05Speaker 1: this super spike and like art, Pokemon cards, sports cards, watches. Yeah,
- 2:14Speaker 1: has it calmed down a little or do you feel
- 2:16Speaker 1: like it's still because I feel like people like would
- 2:18Speaker 1: rather plant their money in these one of a kind
- 2:21Speaker 1: items or these limited items because they know there's a
- 2:23Speaker 1: finite amount of them, so instead of it sitting in
- 2:26Speaker 1: a bank account or risking it on the stock market,
- 2:29Speaker 1: it might look nice.
- 2:30Speaker 3: On the wall.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Right. Well, it definitely has calmed down a significant amount,
- 2:36Speaker 2: and for various reasons. You know it during COVID, I
- 2:40Speaker 2: mean with the whole stimulus check and shit, people just
- 2:42Speaker 2: had play money, right, and they weren't paying you know,
- 2:45Speaker 2: at some point a lot of people had rent relief,
- 2:47Speaker 2: so they weren't paying they were paying rent, They're getting
- 2:49Speaker 2: that stimulus check. They were trapping doing whatever they can
- 2:54Speaker 2: to make money, so they're like, fuck it, I'm gonna
- 2:55Speaker 2: buy something, you know, like an NFT or I'm gonna
- 2:59Speaker 2: get into cards, or I'm gonna get into fucking sneakers
- 3:01Speaker 2: or some shit. There was just a big boom in it,
- 3:03Speaker 2: and I think twenty twenty saw like one of the
- 3:05Speaker 2: biggest years in art sales, Like billions of dollars in
- 3:09Speaker 2: the blue chip art market and for lower tier artists
- 3:13Speaker 2: like myself starting out. You know, it really shot a
- 3:16Speaker 2: lot of artists to start them. Yeah, because for me
- 3:20Speaker 2: at least, you know, I've used Instagram all these years
- 3:24Speaker 2: as a tool to market myself. For sure, it's a gallery,
- 3:27Speaker 2: it's website, it's it's a platform to be able to
- 3:32Speaker 2: reach people globally that you wouldn't be able to otherwise.
- 3:36Speaker 2: But there's there's a it's a catch twenty two because
- 3:40Speaker 2: there's so many artists that are coming out of the
- 3:44Speaker 2: fucking woodwork. So you have millions of artists all of
- 3:47Speaker 2: a sudden, like ten times more than what they're already was.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Kind of like like there was like a rapper DJ
- 3:52Speaker 1: boom oh dude, when it became easy to record at
- 3:54Speaker 1: home or or Serando came out there, all of a sudden,
- 3:57Speaker 1: everyone's a DJ.
- 3:57Speaker 2: But every motherfucking person became an art This is crazy,
- 4:00Speaker 2: and some of them became very successful and still are
- 4:04Speaker 2: successful today. So I'm not hating on it. It's you know,
- 4:06Speaker 2: it's incredible what it did. But yeah, I think a
- 4:09Speaker 2: lot of people just spent a lot of money on
- 4:12Speaker 2: you know, that NFT thing. I didn't really get involved
- 4:15Speaker 2: because I didn't. First of all, I didn't understand the
- 4:19Speaker 2: whole NFT thing at first, and I didn't really care
- 4:21Speaker 2: to want to learn about it. I was already you know,
- 4:23Speaker 2: I mean, it came and went, It came and went definitely,
- 4:27Speaker 2: and I I just feel like I was already digging
- 4:32Speaker 2: my feet in the dirt. I was. I was planning
- 4:35Speaker 2: my feet in the in the ground so much with
- 4:38Speaker 2: real art, with fine art sales and real collectors having
- 4:42Speaker 2: tangible shit that people could collect. I didn't want to
- 4:45Speaker 2: try to educate myself on this whole, you know, new
- 4:49Speaker 2: technological wave way of making art and making money. I
- 4:52Speaker 2: just seemed like too much work. And I'm like, nah, bro,
- 4:55Speaker 2: I need cash overhand, Like fuck all that other shit, right,
- 4:58Speaker 2: I'm like, I'm archaic with this shiit, you know, give
- 5:00Speaker 2: me some fucking the balloons, right, some fucking ducats. So I,
- 5:05Speaker 2: uh yeah, I saw, you know all again, a lot
- 5:07Speaker 2: of artists did some crazy shit with it. I made
- 5:10Speaker 2: one NFT and it was cool, but I just think,
- 5:13Speaker 2: you know, a lot of people spent a lot of
- 5:15Speaker 2: money and they didn't really make a lot of smart investments.
- 5:18Speaker 2: And they're kind of reaping what they so then you.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Know, yeah, I mean, I mean a lot of the
- 5:24Speaker 1: people who like fuck dude, like Logan Paw, I think
- 5:26Speaker 1: he spent nine hundred ft dude.
- 5:30Speaker 3: I mean, I'm sure he made it up with his
- 5:31Speaker 3: Pokemon cards.
- 5:33Speaker 2: But justin Bieber did he bought I think what is it?
- 5:36Speaker 2: The ape?
- 5:37Speaker 3: Yeah, one of them. It's crazy.
- 5:39Speaker 2: They just worth dog shit. Yeah, like, but you know
- 5:42Speaker 2: that's what happens. The thing with fine art, though, is
- 5:45Speaker 2: fine art has such a huge footprint, and the infrastructure
- 5:52Speaker 2: has existed for hundreds of years, and the people that
- 5:56Speaker 2: have have created and operate the infrastructure are not gonna
- 6:00Speaker 2: let it fall apart. After all these years, art only
- 6:03Speaker 2: goes up in value. The only time fine art really
- 6:06Speaker 2: depletes some value is of now with this whole like cancer,
- 6:10Speaker 2: cancel culture bullshit. You know, someone can really damage someone's
- 6:14Speaker 2: name and reputation and say, Okay, we're not supporting this
- 6:16Speaker 2: artist anymore, no matter how influential we think they are.
- 6:21Speaker 2: I mean, look at the whole Caesar Chad shit, bro, Like,
- 6:23Speaker 2: I'm not even trying to.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Happen quick, dude, it happened in like four hours.
- 6:29Speaker 2: It was like the same day went dude win triple
- 6:32Speaker 2: platinum overnight.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Bro. I remember, I like saw the story and then
- 6:35Speaker 1: like almost immediately, they're like they're taking down statues and
- 6:37Speaker 1: changing names, and I was like, oh shit.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Dude, yeah the street name that we fucking cruise on.
- 6:42Speaker 1: But the girl, but the lady who accused him is
- 6:44Speaker 1: like also like a huge glorious Yeah, what's your last name?
- 6:49Speaker 1: There's a school in Burbank named after her. But so
- 6:52Speaker 1: she's it's not like she's like some random persons. So,
- 6:56Speaker 1: but it's it's crazy. How quick I think that's the
- 6:59Speaker 1: quick So that.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Is the fastest someone's ever got canceled.
- 7:02Speaker 1: It was wild. It was very like, it was damnar impressive.
- 7:06Speaker 1: I was like, Yo, they got this guy out of here.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Change the straight dames they took I think in La
- 7:12Speaker 1: they took the statue down within like twenty four hours.
- 7:14Speaker 2: They erased him from history. It's incredible. It's pretty insane.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Well, what's crazy too, is like then they'll then then
- 7:20Speaker 1: like these other clips start popping up of like how
- 7:22Speaker 1: he would talk about like immigrants and women and shit.
- 7:25Speaker 2: That was yeah, but.
- 7:27Speaker 3: I feel like I feel like there's it was known.
- 7:31Speaker 1: But I feel like it wasn't like people, it wasn't
- 7:33Speaker 1: like anything people thought about. It's almost like the Bill
- 7:36Speaker 1: Cosby thing, Like people kind of had heard about the
- 7:40Speaker 1: Bill Cosby shit, and then Hannibal Burris did the bit
- 7:43Speaker 1: in his stand up and it kind of dug it
- 7:45Speaker 1: up and people are like, wait a minute, Bill Cosby.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Was a piece of ship. Yeah, yeah, but yeah, I
- 7:51Speaker 3: know that that is true.
- 7:52Speaker 1: I think with the NFT thing is kind of like
- 7:54Speaker 1: a perfect example of like a tall tale of a
- 7:59Speaker 1: telltale of how you should not buy into any of
- 8:03Speaker 1: this hype too quick because it could it could break you,
- 8:06Speaker 1: especially when it comes to this digital shit. Because I mean, obviously,
- 8:09Speaker 1: how do you feel about bitcoin, cryptocurrency, whatever it is,
- 8:12Speaker 1: There is a certain amount of all of this shit
- 8:15Speaker 1: that is kind of a Ponzi scheme.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Oh well, you know, bitcoin is different. I mean that's
- 8:19Speaker 2: like that's been around for a lot longer.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Yeah. But I mean like if you're like yo, so
- 8:23Speaker 1: and so has a token, it's like, hey, man, like
- 8:26Speaker 1: it's probably it's probably baked in that you're gonna like
- 8:30Speaker 1: lose all your money if you invest. By the time
- 8:32Speaker 1: you hear about it, it's too late.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Like yeah, it's usually too late. Yeah, it's funny. I
- 8:37Speaker 2: want a movie that I watched with my dad all
- 8:38Speaker 2: the time as a boiler room, great movie. I love
- 8:41Speaker 2: that movie and my dad's like, my Dad's Top three,
- 8:43Speaker 2: it's so good. And the beginning of the movie, he's like,
- 8:46Speaker 2: you know, you just He's like, either you got a
- 8:48Speaker 2: sick jump shot or you know you're fucking It's like
- 8:51Speaker 2: in crack rock. So he's like, you just want to
- 8:54Speaker 2: get in. Yeah, And it's true. Everybody just wants to
- 8:57Speaker 2: get in, and by the time you find out it
- 8:59Speaker 2: is way too fucking late, and you know, the price
- 9:01Speaker 2: to get in is it's not even worth it.
- 9:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:04Speaker 1: I feel like with art though, it's it's it's always
- 9:07Speaker 1: I think people need to look at it like it's
- 9:08Speaker 1: a twenty thirty year play. It's like, yo, man, if
- 9:12Speaker 1: you're gonna especially if you invest in an artist early. Yeah.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Well, and another aspect of it, too, is the thing
- 9:19Speaker 2: with fine art is that there's always new talent, right,
- 9:23Speaker 2: There's always new talent. Every day, there's a new fucking
- 9:26Speaker 2: person coming out and making something and that's gonna be
- 9:29Speaker 2: the next big thing. And essentially what happens is someone
- 9:32Speaker 2: creates something, maybe they make a little noise with it,
- 9:35Speaker 2: and then a second person comes around and does it better,
- 9:38Speaker 2: and then they get all the credit for it, and
- 9:40Speaker 2: then that, you know, and then they kind of set
- 9:42Speaker 2: the tone. And so that's what happens. And there's always
- 9:44Speaker 2: new It's like, you know, the best way I can
- 9:48Speaker 2: say is like fucking you know, crocodile teeth. They're always
- 9:50Speaker 2: coming in, they're always replacing, and and it's never gonna
- 9:53Speaker 2: go dry.
- 9:54Speaker 1: All right, another podcast brought to you by odd Socks.

- 11:25Speaker 2: So that's interesting about fine art, and like I said,
- 11:28Speaker 2: it's been around for the way we look at fine
- 11:32Speaker 2: art after the Renaissance for the last five hundred years.
- 11:35Speaker 2: It's only gone up in value. And the way we
- 11:37Speaker 2: treat fine art is it operates on its own set
- 11:40Speaker 2: of rules. It's you know, it's like when fine art
- 11:42Speaker 2: is stolen, federal government gets involved. Yeah, because its value
- 11:48Speaker 2: is like it's one of those things that holds intrinsic
- 11:52Speaker 2: value that isn't actually valuable. We just put a number
- 11:56Speaker 2: on it because it's what we're willing to pay for it.
- 11:58Speaker 2: But it's a it's an anomaly, and it's really hard
- 12:02Speaker 2: to even comprehend how it operates on its own set
- 12:05Speaker 2: of roles. And it'll never go away. That you'll see
- 12:08Speaker 2: a dip sometimes because people get scared and you know,
- 12:11Speaker 2: with a lot.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Of Yeah, sometimes like people be like Okay, I need
- 12:14Speaker 1: to I.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Need to sell, I need to write, or you know,
- 12:16Speaker 2: look what happened with the Palistates. With the fire, A
- 12:19Speaker 2: lot of people lost a lot of money.
- 12:20Speaker 3: But you a lot of art got lost.
- 12:22Speaker 2: A ship ton of fine art got lost.
- 12:23Speaker 1: I saw Mel Gibson had like one of the craziest
- 12:25Speaker 1: book collections ever, and that shit's just gone.
- 12:27Speaker 2: I think he had like a very rare bible.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Yeah, no, he had some shit, and he would be
- 12:32Speaker 1: the guy that would have some crazy shit. Yeah, I
- 12:35Speaker 1: mean the guy who made the fucking Jesus movie happened
- 12:37Speaker 1: the Yeah, rare Bible.
- 12:39Speaker 2: No, I'm excited for part two. You I don't know
- 12:42Speaker 2: the Resurrection, I am, I just because what's happening in two? Yeah?
- 12:46Speaker 2: Oh yeah it's called the Resurrection.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Oh, I mean I watch it.
- 12:50Speaker 2: I mean the first one was so good.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Just it was good.
- 12:52Speaker 1: It was the first one was solid and I'm not
- 12:55Speaker 1: a I mean it came out when i was probably seventeen. Yeah,
- 12:58Speaker 1: so I just remember being like, oh, this is good.
- 13:00Speaker 1: I'm not a religious person, but yeah, it's a good
- 13:02Speaker 1: It's a good movie.
- 13:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:03Speaker 2: I mean, just the way they depicted that story was
- 13:07Speaker 2: I think best out of any other accurate. It was
- 13:10Speaker 2: very accurate. I love that they used the proper language
- 13:13Speaker 2: and the setting.
- 13:14Speaker 1: It was.
- 13:14Speaker 2: You did a really good job with that movie. And
- 13:16Speaker 2: I'm just just as far as storytelling. I think I'm
- 13:20Speaker 2: looking forward for part two because he's been working on
- 13:22Speaker 2: it for years and I'm a Mel Gibson fan.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Me too, man, I mean, listen, he definitely got They
- 13:27Speaker 1: got him in the fuck up out of here, but
- 13:28Speaker 1: they didn't get him.
- 13:29Speaker 2: All the way the fuck up out of here.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Nah. Yeah, I love Mel. When you decide to kind
- 13:35Speaker 1: of approach like cause you're kind of known for your
- 13:37Speaker 1: super realism like portrait stuff. But then like I'll see
- 13:41Speaker 1: you do like uh, like you have the painting with
- 13:45Speaker 1: the guy on the horse with the fire. That's kind
- 13:47Speaker 1: of like I would say, like a global warming type
- 13:50Speaker 1: of you know when when like what inspires you to
- 13:54Speaker 1: kind of say, Okay, I need to kind of make
- 13:56Speaker 1: a statement with the piece, as opposed to I need
- 13:58Speaker 1: to portray something with this, I portray someone.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Well, that particular piece was for a show my print
- 14:06Speaker 2: partner and Martin who owned Sugar Press. It was her
- 14:10Speaker 2: tenth year anniversary show and she had asked me to
- 14:13Speaker 2: be a part of it just because you know, I'm
- 14:15Speaker 2: one of her artists that I've been working with her
- 14:17Speaker 2: for several years now and she's my web manager too.
- 14:20Speaker 2: So she her whole thing is being eco friendly. All
- 14:25Speaker 2: her materials are you know, the inks, the paper, it's
- 14:29Speaker 2: all eco friendly and so that's what she advocates for.
- 14:33Speaker 2: So the show was about, you know, the environment. It
- 14:37Speaker 2: was all promoting you know, green Earth and all that
- 14:39Speaker 2: stuff and touching on topics of you know a little
- 14:44Speaker 2: bit of political topics. I mean, she's more on the
- 14:46Speaker 2: you know, democratic Liverpool side of things. And so she
- 14:50Speaker 2: had asked me, you know, she goes, what do you
- 14:54Speaker 2: think about painting a horse for the show her. I mean,
- 14:57Speaker 2: she grew up with horses. So I said, I can
- 14:58Speaker 2: do that. And originally I was going to do just
- 15:02Speaker 2: a horse on its own, kind of coming out of
- 15:05Speaker 2: like smoke. And I was like, yeah, that's cool. I'm like,
- 15:09Speaker 2: let me, let me dig deeper into this. I think
- 15:10Speaker 2: I can come up with something really, really powerful. So
- 15:14Speaker 2: I went through some photographs that I shot on my
- 15:16Speaker 2: film camera and I found this photo I shot of
- 15:18Speaker 2: this gentleman right here by the Hanson Dam in San
- 15:22Speaker 2: Fernando Valley, and I asked him if I can take
- 15:25Speaker 2: a photo of him on his horse. He was, you know,
- 15:28Speaker 2: happy to let me take a photo of him. And
- 15:30Speaker 2: it was just I felt like it. You know that
- 15:33Speaker 2: it touched on a lot of current topics with whole
- 15:36Speaker 2: you know, the whole immigration thing, with the environment. You know,
- 15:39Speaker 2: the fires that happened here in La you know, the
- 15:43Speaker 2: amount of animal life that got affected from it, the
- 15:47Speaker 2: horses that you saw the videos of like horses running
- 15:49Speaker 2: from stateroom from the fire. So there was that there
- 15:53Speaker 2: was you know, I had like a gas can that
- 15:57Speaker 2: touched on you know, the whole oil industry and how
- 16:01Speaker 2: that you know, the pollution that that that that inflicts
- 16:06Speaker 2: on you know, our ocean and shit, and so it
- 16:08Speaker 2: was I just used it as a way to touch
- 16:09Speaker 2: on all kinds of topics. And I'm not a political
- 16:12Speaker 2: artist by any means. I don't like really making political
- 16:15Speaker 2: art because there's I'm so in the middle of things.
- 16:19Speaker 2: I could see I can agree and disagree on a
- 16:22Speaker 2: lot of things, and I don't like to identify with
- 16:24Speaker 2: one or the other. And I'm like, look, you know,
- 16:27Speaker 2: I'm I'm I'm not necessarily Switzerland.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Well, I think the biggest like shit that people like
- 16:32Speaker 1: they've tricked us into is that there is a left
- 16:34Speaker 1: and right in general.
- 16:36Speaker 3: It's like, hey man, most people agree on.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Like a gigantic amount of shit. Yeah, and then it's
- 16:43Speaker 1: all of the divisive shit that's kind of made up
- 16:45Speaker 1: that doesn't really affect a lot of It's like, you know,
- 16:48Speaker 1: it's almost like the right has done such a good
- 16:51Speaker 1: job of like tricking everyone into thinking like there's like
- 16:56Speaker 1: trans athletes like participating in high schools all across America
- 17:00Speaker 1: when it's like such a small anecdotal example that they
- 17:03Speaker 1: always point to that it's like, you know, this doesn't
- 17:05Speaker 1: even affect people, but it's such a small talking point
- 17:09Speaker 1: that you can enrage and scare people into believing that.
- 17:13Speaker 1: It's like we're just like, really, we're hey, man, let's
- 17:17Speaker 1: just call a spade a spade. This is what it is.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Let's do common sense.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Ship.
- 17:23Speaker 1: I want my politicians to acknowledge that, uh, there's a
- 17:27Speaker 1: fucking genocide happening in fucking in Palestine and in Gaza,
- 17:31Speaker 1: and that you know, Israel's expand against borders, we're at war.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Nothing gases high as fuckhere.
- 17:39Speaker 3: Yeah, Like people don't think.
- 17:40Speaker 1: I don't think anybody wants their kids to go die
- 17:42Speaker 1: in a war for nothing, Like any nobody, not even
- 17:46Speaker 1: the politicians that are fighting for that ship that as
- 17:48Speaker 1: long as it ain't my kid, they don't.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Give money, dude, It's almost it's money in power. That's
- 17:53Speaker 2: That's literally all it boils down to. And what I
- 17:57Speaker 2: what I discovered, you know about the left and the
- 18:00Speaker 2: far left and the far right is that they're willing
- 18:03Speaker 2: to go to the edge of the earth to fight
- 18:05Speaker 2: for their own opinion and which it benefits them right,
- 18:08Speaker 2: and I don't care if people die in the process.
- 18:10Speaker 2: And it's like you're you're advocating for I have a
- 18:13Speaker 2: lot of agreements and disagreements, and at the end of
- 18:15Speaker 2: the day, like I say, i'm i'm I'm, I'm promoting
- 18:18Speaker 2: peace and promoting love equality across the board. You know,
- 18:22Speaker 2: if you're if you're I pay attention to people's actions.
- 18:25Speaker 2: I pay attention to people's attentions, and I base my
- 18:28Speaker 2: opinion am I. I don't like to even judge people.
- 18:31Speaker 2: I'm trying to practice non judgment. You know, I got
- 18:34Speaker 2: really big into Buddhism last year, so I'm like trying
- 18:36Speaker 2: to practice no judgment and just acceptance of people. But
- 18:40Speaker 2: it's hard because you know you as I don't know
- 18:43Speaker 2: like you you for uh, you know what you've been doing.
- 18:46Speaker 2: You work with people, you talk to people, you have
- 18:49Speaker 2: a connection with people, and so there's got to be
- 18:51Speaker 2: a degree of like, you have a certain love and
- 18:54Speaker 2: passion for people. And then when you look out the
- 18:56Speaker 2: fucking window and you see that this is what humanity's
- 18:58Speaker 2: up to, right and with society is participating in, You're like, dude,
- 19:02Speaker 2: how could I how could I even feel proud? Of
- 19:05Speaker 2: being part of the society when where there's so much.
- 19:08Speaker 3: Fu fucked up shit happening so much.
- 19:10Speaker 2: I mean, just the war alone.
- 19:12Speaker 1: It was crazy. We brew up a whole entire school
- 19:15Speaker 1: full of children that first day.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Yeah, and I'm getting kind of fuckings tired of Instagram
- 19:19Speaker 2: like allowing certain content on there. And I'm like, yo,
- 19:22Speaker 2: I'm not trying to see this shit like it'll access really.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Where if you really want to dive into like a
- 19:27Speaker 1: bunch of like blown up children, you'll be.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Like, fuck, yeah, what are we doing? It's crazy, dude.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Rotten dot Com scarred me when I was.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Like, dude, I just telling my boy. I was like,
- 19:36Speaker 1: y'all were not around when we had rotten dot Com.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Disgusting bro A lot of people, a lot of kids.
- 19:42Speaker 1: I'm thirty nine, so my age group we got the Internet,
- 19:47Speaker 1: I would say twelve thirteen, fourteen in that maybe like
- 19:51Speaker 1: twelve ish thirteen.
- 19:52Speaker 3: Ish, yeah, seventh grade or so.
- 19:55Speaker 1: And I remember, but like, my parents never had the internet,
- 19:59Speaker 1: so we would have have the school internet. And the
- 20:02Speaker 1: first place we go is rotten dot Com.
- 20:04Speaker 2: At the school campus.
- 20:05Speaker 1: That's crazy, and we and and and it'd be crazy,
- 20:09Speaker 1: and then the other thing. And I know this is
- 20:11Speaker 1: gonna sound wild, but there was like this. There was
- 20:14Speaker 1: always the lure of this Internet thing that's new and
- 20:19Speaker 1: that there's pitches fucking horses on the Internet. So the
- 20:22Speaker 1: first thing me and the homies did when we got
- 20:25Speaker 1: a computer would see if that was true, and it was.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Bro, I know, we're not talking about best reality.
- 20:31Speaker 1: On the early Internet days would be like, Bro, there's
- 20:34Speaker 1: bitches on the Internet, Like, what is this Internet thing?
- 20:37Speaker 2: Bro?
- 20:37Speaker 1: You don't understand? It's crazy, bro, And the ship would
- 20:39Speaker 1: be so fucking slow, so fucking hell. Epixelated AOL seven
- 20:47Speaker 1: day trial this spring for an hour, not crazy time.
- 20:51Speaker 2: So speaking of animal, fucking dude, I just saw some
- 20:53Speaker 2: rumors about the Claremont Twins.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Did you hear about I heard about them, the chicks.
- 20:59Speaker 1: I didn't hear, man, I've met them once.
- 21:01Speaker 2: But I heard some ship on like X. Read some
- 21:04Speaker 2: ship on X the other day that was like there
- 21:05Speaker 2: were fucking dogs or something. I was like, what the
- 21:09Speaker 2: fuck was.
- 21:09Speaker 3: Like, No, Sawdi Prince paid them to do it.
- 21:11Speaker 2: I don't know, bro. So one of them, one of them.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Saudi Arabia, they doing some widow ship. They get shot
- 21:19Speaker 1: on that.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Yeah, thirty grand thirty grand to get and that's what
- 21:25Speaker 2: they're doing.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Shout out to our brothers at hard Dean man O's family.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Of course, they've been sponsoring the podcast for years now.
- 21:32Speaker 1: You've been seeing the mic flag for years now. Want
- 21:34Speaker 1: to give a shout out to our brothers. I just
- 21:36Speaker 1: was in Vegas. I had to pull up, all right. Look,
- 21:38Speaker 1: it's the number one dispensary in the world. When I
- 21:41Speaker 1: tell you, you walk in that thing and the butt tenders
- 21:44Speaker 1: are great. They take care of you immediately. The selection
- 21:47Speaker 1: is great. So when you go to Vegas, you get
- 21:49Speaker 1: into that cab, you get into that uber immediately, say
- 21:51Speaker 1: take me to Hardean. Don't know what they're doing, all right,
- 21:53Speaker 1: they go get you right, all right, the number one
- 21:55Speaker 1: premium cannabis dispensary in the world. They just got me right.
- 21:58Speaker 1: I was just in town for Raffi's birthday. Had to
- 22:01Speaker 1: pull up, get right.
- 22:02Speaker 3: Get this nice little one to one Harding jersey. These
- 22:06Speaker 3: are not available, all right?
- 22:08Speaker 1: Shot to them, man, all right, salute to the family.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Follow him on Instagram. Harding Underscore Las Vegas. Sorry, let's
- 22:13Speaker 1: get back to the podcast. Anyway, back to the art
- 22:16Speaker 1: you've painted so many people. Have you ever had somebody
- 22:20Speaker 1: who didn't like the fact that you painted them?
- 22:24Speaker 2: Uh no, not necessarily. I know we were talking about
- 22:29Speaker 2: the Doom thing before this, so I'll touch on that.
- 22:32Speaker 1: So I had a couple of Doom pieces.
- 22:34Speaker 2: At two to at two one was a commission for
- 22:37Speaker 2: the other one's darker, right, Yeah, it was for Conductor.
- 22:41Speaker 2: I did that a couple of years ago. This was
- 22:42Speaker 2: the first one. And I'm a fan of Doom as
- 22:45Speaker 2: much as anybody else. So obviously, you know, whenever I'm
- 22:49Speaker 2: painting portraits of notable figures, I typically try to do
- 22:54Speaker 2: them only as commission paintings. I don't like to do
- 22:56Speaker 2: them just for myself because it's just I don't know,
- 23:00Speaker 2: you know, like my dad in the beginning of his career,
- 23:03Speaker 2: he you know, he created a collection a body of
- 23:06Speaker 2: work called the Icon Series, and it was just icons.
- 23:09Speaker 2: It was celebrity work drugs. Yeah, but this is way
- 23:12Speaker 2: like early two thousands, and you know, he told me like, hey, dude,
- 23:15Speaker 2: you don't want to get into that trap of doing
- 23:17Speaker 2: celebrities because everybody's doing it. Don't do what I did.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Make your own shit. So that's what I started doing.
- 23:24Speaker 2: So for Doom though. That was a portrait that I
- 23:27Speaker 2: wanted to do just as a passion project, and it
- 23:30Speaker 2: blew the fuck up, and people were like, Yo, we
- 23:32Speaker 2: want prints, we want t shirts, like we want this ship,
- 23:36Speaker 2: get it to us, because I had told the original
- 23:38Speaker 2: right away, and you know, for the for the fans,
- 23:41Speaker 2: I mean, they really like having that memorabilia and that
- 23:44Speaker 2: stuff to decorate their house and they love that shit.
- 23:47Speaker 2: So I tried to reach out to to Doom's a state.
- 23:52Speaker 2: I couldn't get a hold of him. So I said,
- 23:54Speaker 2: you know what, here's what I'll do. I'm gonna drop
- 23:56Speaker 2: these prints and then when they reach out to me,
- 23:59Speaker 2: I got for that, no problem, and I did that.
- 24:02Speaker 2: I dropped the Prince limited edition prints. I held onto
- 24:06Speaker 2: the money and I eventually I had some people on
- 24:10Speaker 2: my Instagram being like, yo, are you donating the Dooms
- 24:12Speaker 2: of State? And I'm like, if you can get me
- 24:13Speaker 2: in contact with them, I got money for him, and
- 24:17Speaker 2: someone had forwarded me an email to you know, Rhyme
- 24:22Speaker 2: Sayers and quote unquote.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Yeah someonear I think Rhyme says runs his copywriter, his
- 24:28Speaker 1: likeliness for the estate, right.
- 24:30Speaker 2: So I was trying to get in contact with his wife,
- 24:32Speaker 2: because the way I saw it was like, if I'm
- 24:34Speaker 2: giving up any money, I want to give it to
- 24:36Speaker 2: her directly, exactly like I need to know is going
- 24:39Speaker 2: to his family. I'm not trying to give it to
- 24:41Speaker 2: no motherfucking label, like I'm supporting his his flesh and blood.
- 24:44Speaker 2: That's how.
- 24:45Speaker 1: That's how. That's because you're doing the right thing, not
- 24:46Speaker 1: necessarily because you have to write because this is the
- 24:48Speaker 1: original art.
- 24:49Speaker 2: Or I mean it's not obscure. I mean it is.
- 24:53Speaker 2: Here's the thing, people, if these people came after every
- 24:57Speaker 2: single person that made fan art, I mean there's people
- 24:59Speaker 2: that are making tens of thousands of shit like this right,
- 25:03Speaker 2: And I'm like, I'm not making tens of thousands off
- 25:05Speaker 2: this shit. And and I do donate as much of
- 25:07Speaker 2: the proceeds as I can to if there's a foundation,
- 25:10Speaker 2: I'll donate anonymously. If I can't get a hold of him.
- 25:13Speaker 2: So I was back and forth with this email who
- 25:16Speaker 2: was quote unquote his manager, and I'm.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Like, yeah, those guys definitely run his trademark and his licensing.
- 25:23Speaker 1: I know that for sure.
- 25:24Speaker 2: So I told this guy said, look, I'm happy to,
- 25:27Speaker 2: you know, break you off some of the pro seeds.
- 25:30Speaker 2: I'm like, but I really would like to get in
- 25:32Speaker 2: contact with his wife and give it to her directly
- 25:34Speaker 2: so I know that it went to its stores. And
- 25:37Speaker 2: he was like, well, you know she doesn't. I handle
- 25:40Speaker 2: everything that's via email. And I'm like, well, with all
- 25:43Speaker 2: due respect, I'm not trying to get scammed here. I
- 25:44Speaker 2: don't know who you are, Like, I'm not going to
- 25:46Speaker 2: go around bragging that I I donated money to Doom's family.
- 25:51Speaker 2: And then it didn't go. It didn't get I'm not
- 25:53Speaker 2: I just you know what I'm saying. So it just got.
- 25:55Speaker 2: It was a lot of back and forth and it
- 25:57Speaker 2: got dropped fast forward. I did the Doom for Conductor
- 26:01Speaker 2: and then I was like, okay, let's try this again,
- 26:04Speaker 2: because I wanted to make prints and but I wanted
- 26:06Speaker 2: to do it with Dooms of State. I said, let's
- 26:08Speaker 2: do it right, let's let's really do something special for
- 26:12Speaker 2: the fans, and let's do this correct. I reached out again,
- 26:16Speaker 2: and the same thing. Oh, pay us for the first thing,
- 26:18Speaker 2: and then we could talk about the second. I'm like, okay,
- 26:20Speaker 2: you know what, fuck it. At this point, give me
- 26:22Speaker 2: a Venmo, a PayPal, a Zelle, or nothing. I got
- 26:27Speaker 2: nothing back, so I said, all right, well, I guess
- 26:28Speaker 2: you guys don't want the fucking money that bad because
- 26:30Speaker 2: I'm trying to pay you and it just never happened.
- 26:33Speaker 2: But every time I did some doom shit, whether it
- 26:35Speaker 2: was prints or merch, dude, I got a lot of
- 26:39Speaker 2: love for it. And there was a handful of people
- 26:40Speaker 2: that would be like, oh, you know, I hope you're
- 26:42Speaker 2: giving bread to the family, and I'm like, well, I'm
- 26:44Speaker 2: fucking trying to, dude, Like it's not easy, Like these
- 26:46Speaker 2: people are difficult sometimes, you know.
- 26:48Speaker 1: Sometimes yeah, I know the rhyme sayers bruhs are connected
- 26:51Speaker 1: with his estate officially, I just don't know, like to
- 26:54Speaker 1: the extent of how they I heard. I heard that
- 26:57Speaker 1: they're not the easiest cats to do with.
- 26:58Speaker 2: I mean, via email, dude was a pain in the
- 27:00Speaker 2: fucking ass. And I was like, dude, I'm never doing
- 27:02Speaker 2: some doom ship again, like even if it was on
- 27:05Speaker 2: some commission ship, because I just it's just too much.
- 27:08Speaker 2: It's just too much of a headache. And I'm like, look,
- 27:10Speaker 2: it's all love, Like I'm a fan and I'm trying
- 27:12Speaker 2: to trying to contribute to uh, you know, where I'm
- 27:16Speaker 2: getting the inspiration from. I'm trying to contribute to the camp,
- 27:19Speaker 2: but I want to make sure that it's going to
- 27:21Speaker 2: his family. Bro, Like like I'm gonna say some ship
- 27:24Speaker 2: that you know, It's like, CJ is my you know,
- 27:29Speaker 2: biggie son is my homeboy, and I'm known CJ for
- 27:31Speaker 2: several years now.
- 27:32Speaker 1: You did his dad?
- 27:33Speaker 3: I did yeah at Didy's studio.
- 27:36Speaker 2: We talked about that last time.
- 27:37Speaker 1: By the way, do we know where that is now?
- 27:39Speaker 1: Because of course the studios I mean is it just.
- 27:41Speaker 2: Got the painting the craziest fucking story. So I'm tripping.
- 27:45Speaker 2: I'm like, what the fuck is going on? I'm like,
- 27:49Speaker 2: oh my god, it is ship is shit is hot?
- 27:53Speaker 2: You know? It was like the the the amount of
- 27:57Speaker 2: notifications I was getting was crazy, and I'm like, a bro,
- 28:00Speaker 2: where the fuck is my painting? I'd like to have
- 28:02Speaker 2: it back. At this point, it's gonna get just confiscated
- 28:05Speaker 2: by FBI. Who knows what kind of fucking jiz is
- 28:08Speaker 2: on it, you know what? Right? So I I tried
- 28:12Speaker 2: to find out where it was and then I couldn't
- 28:15Speaker 2: get any leads and then finally what's uh Stevie J
- 28:21Speaker 2: was on his Instagram live and someone sends me the
- 28:25Speaker 2: live and it's behind him, and I message Stevie, I go, hey,
- 28:29Speaker 2: with all due respect, how the fuck did you get
- 28:31Speaker 2: my painting? Because that's not the studio that I recognized,
- 28:34Speaker 2: And he's like, oh, it's here in Miami, like I'm
- 28:37Speaker 2: holding onto it and I'm like, oh where. I'm like,
- 28:40Speaker 2: so I need to get that ship back, bro, Like
- 28:43Speaker 2: you know, if I can't, just I'd rather give it
- 28:46Speaker 2: to CJ. And but my yeah, my point in saying
- 28:51Speaker 2: the whole CG thing is like I I have never
- 28:54Speaker 2: made prints of the Biggie piece in recent years, like
- 29:00Speaker 2: I had did some fucking Kinko ship like way back
- 29:02Speaker 2: in the day that when I first did it, but
- 29:04Speaker 2: it was nothing legit. And I don't want to do
- 29:06Speaker 2: prints or T shirts without CJ. And you know, his
- 29:10Speaker 2: sister's consent, like that's the Homeboys. So sure, I'm like,
- 29:14Speaker 2: if I do anything with that, I I only want
- 29:18Speaker 2: that money to go to him, and I want to
- 29:20Speaker 2: go anywhere else. Those kids, those those are his kids, like,
- 29:24Speaker 2: and I'm sure I I speak for most people in
- 29:27Speaker 2: saying that that would be the right move. You know,
- 29:30Speaker 2: I'm just break them off directly right, TEXTA C Jeff
- 29:33Speaker 2: fucking Apple, pay him?
- 29:35Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 29:35Speaker 1: If somebody wanted to get something commissioned, Yeah what what? What?
- 29:40Speaker 1: How did? How does? How does that process work?
- 29:43Speaker 2: Uh? Well, typically it's it's you know, just via DM.
- 29:46Speaker 2: Like if someone's say, if a rapper, someone's reaching out
- 29:49Speaker 2: to me, Hey, I want to get a painting, what
- 29:51Speaker 2: do you charge? And I typically have a formula the
- 29:54Speaker 2: way I charge. I have like a fixed dollar per
- 29:57Speaker 2: square inch, and commissions always are based off of size
- 30:01Speaker 2: and detail. So I have a bag, you know, a
- 30:03Speaker 2: general price, and then depending on what they want that
- 30:07Speaker 2: can vary, that can go up and down. And then
- 30:10Speaker 2: typically like depending on the project, I don't say yes
- 30:14Speaker 2: to everything, right Like I I think, I don't know
- 30:16Speaker 2: if I told you last time, but I was talking
- 30:17Speaker 2: to like Meek Mill for like two years on doing
- 30:19Speaker 2: an album cover, but I was kind of we were
- 30:22Speaker 2: going back and forth about it. He wanted some fucking
- 30:25Speaker 2: crazy shit and I was like, Okay, well what I
- 30:28Speaker 2: don't know, bro, I saw the way you moved about
- 30:30Speaker 2: that fucking sneaker deal at that that's you know, trying
- 30:32Speaker 2: to get a crazy deal on some fucking sneakers. I'm like,
- 30:35Speaker 2: you can't. You can't do this with art, bro, So
- 30:38Speaker 2: I didn't. I didn't know what I was dealing with there.
- 30:40Speaker 2: And plus I kind of wanted to consult Wes too.
- 30:42Speaker 2: I just you know, I keep I like keeping my
- 30:46Speaker 2: my wrapper world very tight knit with Wes in the
- 30:51Speaker 2: Griselda camp because that's that's what we built.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, look though, I think it is also
- 30:56Speaker 1: the It's it's if you start getting you know, commissioned
- 31:02Speaker 1: by other rappers. It's it's just another extent of the
- 31:06Speaker 1: influence that Gun and the Gun.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Has, Oh for sure. I was just telling them, Bro,
- 31:09Speaker 2: I got motherfuckers that owe me money bands, dude, for
- 31:13Speaker 2: paintings or for paintings, oh wow, because motherfuckers started moving
- 31:17Speaker 2: weird rappers trying to be like, you know, on that
- 31:20Speaker 2: West shit, and then they're moving, they end up moving
- 31:23Speaker 2: with I got a motherfucker that owes me.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Ten bands for a single piece of art, for a
- 31:27Speaker 1: single piece of art, and the original quote was twenty.
- 31:31Speaker 2: Yeah, and they already have it.
- 31:33Speaker 1: So what's the Is there ever been something you've said
- 31:36Speaker 1: no to painting because it just doesn't sit well with you,
- 31:38Speaker 1: or you're like I can't. I'm not painting that.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I've had people, you know, you get
- 31:42Speaker 2: these random fucking trappers that want some bullshit artwork that
- 31:45Speaker 2: looks like some shit you could photoshop, and I'm like, dude,
- 31:47Speaker 2: I'm not doing that shit.
- 31:48Speaker 1: Like if somebody was like, yo, I need Donald Trump,
- 31:51Speaker 1: I mean for the right price.
- 31:54Speaker 2: Hey, you know you may be, but no one has
- 31:58Speaker 2: asked me any political ship yet.
- 32:01Speaker 1: You know, I feel like it would be hard. And
- 32:03Speaker 1: I just had this random thought, if you did Nacho libre.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Well, it's funny. I just did a piece based on
- 32:09Speaker 2: that for my dad's Luca.
- 32:11Speaker 3: Are you talking about the one where with the l mask.
- 32:13Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that was I saw that and I was like, yo,
- 32:15Speaker 1: if he did a natural libre Jack Black, that ship
- 32:19Speaker 1: would go crack.
- 32:19Speaker 2: Well, it's it's funny you say that because my dad
- 32:22Speaker 2: is actually trying to He's wants to do a lucha
- 32:27Speaker 2: event based on the real guy that that is based
- 32:30Speaker 2: on the real and he wants to get Jack Black
- 32:33Speaker 2: to host the event.
- 32:34Speaker 1: I'd go crazy, dude, wrestling is hot right now. Going crazy, dude.
- 32:38Speaker 2: You should miss You just missed out on my dad's
- 32:41Speaker 2: tenth anniversary ship. Yeah, it was at a at a
- 32:47Speaker 2: super Chief gallery and that ship was fucking cracked.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Brother Kanye was using a bunch of Lucas ship for Bully.
- 32:53Speaker 2: Yeah. Hunter Biden pulled up.
- 32:55Speaker 3: Oh bet Betty fucking did bro.
- 32:57Speaker 2: Hunter Biden pulled up.
- 32:59Speaker 3: He's not a horrible artist.
- 33:01Speaker 2: I haven't seen his work, but it's not bad.
- 33:03Speaker 1: I mean, look, I've seen some celebrity like Nepo art
- 33:06Speaker 1: that you're like, come on, his ship is like not
- 33:09Speaker 1: as bad as like a lot of the stuff I've.
- 33:11Speaker 2: Seen, Like President Bush's ship isn't too bad. I mean, dude,
- 33:15Speaker 2: President Bush can fucking paint.
- 33:17Speaker 1: Shouts to Hunter Biden.
- 33:18Speaker 2: There's a lot of politicians that can paint. And we're
- 33:20Speaker 2: not going to talk about that dude who can paint.
- 33:23Speaker 2: We could, but you know that dude can fucking paint too.
- 33:26Speaker 1: Yeah he's a doodler.
- 33:28Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that politicians can fucking paint. They love art.
- 33:31Speaker 3: They ain't got shit else going on.
- 33:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you know, they're just fucking yeah, they can.
- 33:38Speaker 2: You know, maybe I should be a politician, you know,
- 33:40Speaker 2: hey maybe No, No, I couldn't. That's a terrible job, dude.
- 33:43Speaker 3: So what's next for you?
- 33:45Speaker 1: Do you have like like like when you kind of
- 33:47Speaker 1: like visualize, like Okay, I kind of know what the
- 33:50Speaker 1: next big because I feel like you have a couple
- 33:51Speaker 1: of these pieces, like like whether it's like the Mike
- 33:53Speaker 1: I think the Mike Tyson piece is like its own thing.
- 33:55Speaker 1: That was like, yeah, oh this is crazy.
- 33:58Speaker 2: Another situation to cut you off, but another situation where
- 34:01Speaker 2: you know, I did it out of love because I
- 34:05Speaker 2: you know, I love Mike and I love Ali, and
- 34:07Speaker 2: I donated the proceeds to the foundations that they have.
- 34:11Speaker 2: Mike was anonymous.
- 34:13Speaker 1: It was the Mike Tyson Foundation, like how to Smoke
- 34:15Speaker 1: the Toad.
- 34:17Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 34:18Speaker 3: It was the Benefits of d MT.
- 34:20Speaker 2: I just googled, like what what foundation does Mike advocate
- 34:24Speaker 2: or involved in, and it was some like some some
- 34:27Speaker 2: heart something, and I just I donated some money. That's synonymously.
- 34:30Speaker 2: And then with the Ali thing, I have a friend
- 34:32Speaker 2: who put me in a show in Kentucky in Louisville,
- 34:36Speaker 2: and it was a show and by the way, it's Louisville, Louisville,
- 34:39Speaker 2: lou Louisville. Yeah.
- 34:42Speaker 1: I just saw a video today. Someone got annoyed and
- 34:45Speaker 1: they were like it's Louisville, Louisville. Yeah, it's like a noise.
- 34:48Speaker 2: Yeah, Louisville. Yeah, I don't. I don't say that ship.
- 34:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 34:51Speaker 2: But I went to I went to Louisville, Kentucky, and
- 34:54Speaker 2: I was part of a group show with Shepherd Ferry.
- 34:56Speaker 2: He was doing a big ass mural dedicated to Ali
- 35:00Speaker 2: and I had my my Ali piece there. And then
- 35:03Speaker 2: I from the princes that I made in the shirts
- 35:06Speaker 2: through my friend that that organized that whole thing, he
- 35:09Speaker 2: had a we exchanged and I was able to donate
- 35:13Speaker 2: direct for the foundation.
- 35:14Speaker 1: Do you because I think the last time I'd asked you,
- 35:18Speaker 1: what's the most someone's ever paid for your art? Has
- 35:20Speaker 1: that has that changed? Or maybe even on the second second.
- 35:23Speaker 2: Well, everybody knows the last supper was one hundred thousand,
- 35:27Speaker 2: that's West's Peace. But in recent days you know that,
- 35:32Speaker 2: Like I just I just sold a small painting about
- 35:35Speaker 2: that size for twenty one thousand, damn, And that's kind
- 35:40Speaker 2: of a big deal because those paintings I was typically
- 35:43Speaker 2: selling between seven and ten thousand, so the were that
- 35:47Speaker 2: kind of doubles going, right.
- 35:49Speaker 1: Have you seen anything on the resale market that has
- 35:51Speaker 1: caught your eye, like damn? Someone flipped my painting for
- 35:54Speaker 1: this all the time.
- 35:55Speaker 2: All the time. Like I have, dude, the Prey for
- 35:58Speaker 2: Paris prints that Wes and I did in twenty twenty.
- 36:00Speaker 2: Those are going for like two grand on eBay, so
- 36:03Speaker 2: he sold those for one hundred bucks two grand, dude,
- 36:06Speaker 2: how much time's over is that? You know? It's twenty
- 36:09Speaker 2: x Like, yeah, it's fucking crazy. So people definitely are
- 36:14Speaker 2: flippers with the prints. Mostly with the originals, they're more
- 36:16Speaker 2: sat on. I've seen a couple originals go up for
- 36:19Speaker 2: sale and it's kind of whack because you're like, dude,
- 36:22Speaker 2: hold on to it, like wait a few more years,
- 36:24Speaker 2: like because you're just trying to you know, but people
- 36:27Speaker 2: are hurting. People want to, you know, they're selling their watches,
- 36:29Speaker 2: they're selling.
- 36:30Speaker 1: People are People are definitely hurting.
- 36:32Speaker 2: The sneaker game is shot, you know, the fucking there's
- 36:36Speaker 2: a lot of games again, Yeah, there's a lot of
- 36:38Speaker 2: games that are shot right now. With with art is
- 36:40Speaker 2: just it's up and down, and we saw a little
- 36:43Speaker 2: bit of a rise last year. I'm seeing a rise
- 36:46Speaker 2: in my market right you know, I mean I'm doing
- 36:49Speaker 2: I just did a fucking show in Paris, which was
- 36:52Speaker 2: crazy you know, I sold a portrait of Louis Vuitton
- 36:54Speaker 2: for fifteen thousand. I you know, just sold a painting
- 36:57Speaker 2: for twenty one thousand through the agency that I worked with,
- 37:00Speaker 2: the management company Mansion of Art. Shout out to them.
- 37:03Speaker 2: They were the ones that put the pair show together
- 37:05Speaker 2: and sold that painting. So yeah, it's just putting the
- 37:09Speaker 2: paintings in front of the right market, in the right people.
- 37:12Speaker 2: You know, a lot of my collectors consist of you know,
- 37:16Speaker 2: hip hop heads and West Side fans, and you know
- 37:19Speaker 2: they got they got bread, but they don't got twenty
- 37:22Speaker 2: one thousand dollars art bread. You know, they got five
- 37:25Speaker 2: thousand dollars art bread. And so it's just that's why
- 37:29Speaker 2: the Prince I try to make the prints available for
- 37:32Speaker 2: people that want to collect.
- 37:33Speaker 1: Shout out to Raffi Law Group, our family. Yes, it's
- 37:37Speaker 1: been so dope to partner with, you know, such a
- 37:39Speaker 1: name and brand and somebody who I actually am a
- 37:42Speaker 1: customer of. Shout out to Raffi Law Group, man Arizona's
- 37:45Speaker 1: premier personal injury law firm. And I don't just put
- 37:49Speaker 1: my name on anybody when we do this stuff on
- 37:52Speaker 1: the Bootleg cap podcast and you see us partnering with brands.
- 37:54Speaker 1: We're very selective about who we connect with, and Raffi
- 37:58Speaker 1: is someone who's actually helped my family, help my wife
- 38:01Speaker 1: get a settlement, all right, has helped over seventy thousand
- 38:04Speaker 1: people in Arizona. No matter what happens, man, car accident, crash, injury,
- 38:10Speaker 1: you maybe get bit by a dog, I don't know,
- 38:12Speaker 1: whatever it is, Raffi Law Group makes the process less stressful.
- 38:17Speaker 1: They put money in your pocket. Yes, the name you
- 38:19Speaker 1: can trust. You already know, man, Raffi Law Group. Save
- 38:23Speaker 1: the number just in case, because hey, you get into
- 38:25Speaker 1: a car accident tomorrow, you gotta call Raffi six two
- 38:28Speaker 1: three three eight eight four three three three and want
- 38:32Speaker 1: to wish a big happy birthday to Raffi's just celebrated
- 38:35Speaker 1: his fortieth birthday. We had a good time in Vegas.
- 38:37Speaker 1: Fifty cent was there, pauly D was there, mad Rich
- 38:40Speaker 1: was there. E c Rock was there. It was a movie,
- 38:44Speaker 1: all right, Secretary of State was there. We were just
- 38:46Speaker 1: hanging out, Man Show. Look shout out to Brandon Raffi.
- 38:48Speaker 1: Don't forget Raffi Law Group. The only calling you to
- 38:51Speaker 1: make if you're an az and you get into an
- 38:53Speaker 1: accident or you get into any sort of injury situation,
- 38:57Speaker 1: they'll take care you immediately call Raffi baby, get back
- 39:00Speaker 1: to the podcast.
- 39:01Speaker 2: Something for me, you know.
- 39:02Speaker 1: So for the on the Prey for Paris front, you
- 39:07Speaker 1: you don't do the original cover, right, the one with
- 39:11Speaker 1: the head that's a Virgil flip.
- 39:14Speaker 2: Okay, So I'll explain that. So sometimes I do the covers.
- 39:18Speaker 2: I do mostly the alternate covers that go on vinyl.
- 39:21Speaker 1: Because there is an alternate Prey for Paris cover yeah yeah.
- 39:24Speaker 2: Which I'm the alternate Pray for Paris, Yeah, which is
- 39:26Speaker 2: this essentially right, It's essentially that Simona Lisa with the
- 39:29Speaker 2: smiley face. So I had spoke to Wes. It was fun,
- 39:32Speaker 2: this is crazy. So it was the last tour day
- 39:35Speaker 2: of the what was Shine Gun Do tour in La
- 39:38Speaker 2: talking to West backstage and I'm like, Ao, like, what
- 39:41Speaker 2: are we doing next? And He's like, I'm working on
- 39:43Speaker 2: my new album, Pray for Paris, And I said, what
- 39:45Speaker 2: are we doing for it? I'm sitting back there like
- 39:46Speaker 2: a mosquito, like the fuck we cooking? And he was like, oh,
- 39:49Speaker 2: I got Virgil on it. So I'm like all right, whatever,
- 39:52Speaker 2: like you know, cool. So a few months go by
- 39:56Speaker 2: and then COVID hits, and then.
- 39:58Speaker 1: I was at the show because that was the show.
- 40:00Speaker 2: Oh when jay Z was back backstage, Yeah, and then
- 40:03Speaker 2: and then he had a moment with Conway.
- 40:05Speaker 1: It was after did the cow.
- 40:08Speaker 2: Yeah, dude, it was hard. And then jay Z's and
- 40:10Speaker 2: backstage talking to.
- 40:11Speaker 1: Con and there was a game I think it was
- 40:13Speaker 1: a Bucks game. Bucks Lakers game was happening at Crypto
- 40:18Speaker 1: that night.
- 40:18Speaker 2: Yeah, and it was just all packed. Yeah, he came
- 40:21Speaker 2: straight from there. Yep, yep, yep, yep. I was back there.
- 40:24Speaker 2: But so I was talking to West and a couple
- 40:26Speaker 2: months go by, COVID hits. So I painted this Mona
- 40:30Speaker 2: Lisa with the smiley face. I sent it to him
- 40:33Speaker 2: and he was like, yo, I gotta use that for
- 40:35Speaker 2: pray for Paris. I was like, yeah, the fuck you are, Like,
- 40:37Speaker 2: I know you are. So he That ended up becoming
- 40:41Speaker 2: the alternate cover that went on CDs, cassettes, merch. So
- 40:46Speaker 2: Virgil's cover was what was on like DSPSP and some
- 40:50Speaker 2: of the most of the vinyls and there's some I
- 40:53Speaker 2: think there might be some vinyls with it. I'm not sure,
- 40:55Speaker 2: but the covers that I've done that are out on
- 40:58Speaker 2: DSPs are like the Liz covers for Our Money, all
- 41:03Speaker 2: the you know, the ben Wa there was some it
- 41:05Speaker 2: was like on some DSPs and then like title I
- 41:08Speaker 2: think had the ben Walk cover with the Supreme Blind
- 41:11Speaker 2: Time album. So it's like weird, like there's some DSPs
- 41:14Speaker 2: that have my.
- 41:15Speaker 1: Well and then like he just had to have a
- 41:16Speaker 1: bunch of shit taken down because the WW haters.
- 41:19Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, and now that's some bullshit brou I.
- 41:23Speaker 1: Don't know if there's a single guy who spent more
- 41:25Speaker 1: money on fucking wrestling tickets in him.
- 41:28Speaker 2: I'm so disappointed in WW for that ship like that.
- 41:31Speaker 2: I've never I've never seen a more heavier supporter in
- 41:36Speaker 2: hip hop than Wes likenif bro significantly, like you see,
- 41:41Speaker 2: you know, you might have seen like way back in
- 41:42Speaker 2: the day, like maybe like a snoop at like whatever,
- 41:45Speaker 2: and that was cool, but like Wes.
- 41:47Speaker 1: Is, no, he's coming out of pocket, and he's coming
- 41:49Speaker 1: out of pocket culture.
- 41:50Speaker 2: Yeah, they're probably paying a snoop to be there, for sure,
- 41:53Speaker 2: Wes is paying to be there himself, and he's a
- 41:56Speaker 2: front row.
- 41:56Speaker 3: Fourth rope's going crazy though.
- 41:58Speaker 1: I think it kind of yeah, I think all that
- 41:59Speaker 1: ship kind of lit the fire under his ass, so
- 42:01Speaker 1: he needed to keep building that.
- 42:03Speaker 2: And and they see him as a threat. They know,
- 42:05Speaker 2: like he's what he's doing with this indie ship is
- 42:09Speaker 2: he's creating a whole new wave and audience for wrestling,
- 42:14Speaker 2: merging the hip hop and the merch. The merchant like
- 42:19Speaker 2: it's it's really pushing. It's an aspect that you can't
- 42:24Speaker 2: separate from the whole thing, like fourth rope. That's important,
- 42:27Speaker 2: The fourth rope.
- 42:28Speaker 3: I mean that's how it started.
- 42:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's the art. Art is at the forefront,
- 42:32Speaker 2: and I'm you know, I'm part of that forefront because
- 42:35Speaker 2: when it's time to make art for the merch or Prince,
- 42:38Speaker 2: he's hitting me. Guy, like we just did you know
- 42:40Speaker 2: the Virgil piece last year that was I didn't I
- 42:44Speaker 2: thought that was going to be on merch but it
- 42:46Speaker 2: was just Prince. And I'm working on several ship for
- 42:48Speaker 2: him right now as we speak, so I can't, you know,
- 42:52Speaker 2: talk too much about it. But there's at least four
- 42:56Speaker 2: artworks that and the works and the like it's.
- 42:59Speaker 1: Put well, he had like his like museum of Art
- 43:01Speaker 1: in Phoenix forever. I don't know if it's that that
- 43:04Speaker 1: was his house, that was I know, but he damned
- 43:06Speaker 1: your turned his Yeah they called it the all right,
- 43:09Speaker 1: Yeah it was a fucking thing.
- 43:10Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it was crazy. I want to actually talk
- 43:13Speaker 2: to him. He's going to hear it on fucking bootleg
- 43:16Speaker 2: okay podcast. First, we need to do a retrospective show
- 43:19Speaker 2: at the Buffalo Art Museum of all the work that
- 43:22Speaker 2: I've done for him for the last ten years. That's
- 43:23Speaker 2: like fifty paintings, bro, that's a lot at the Buffalo
- 43:26Speaker 2: Art Museum. That show will be bananasas well.
- 43:30Speaker 1: Listen to your show for your birthdays next Friday, Saturday Saturday,
- 43:34Speaker 1: June sixth. Yeah, for sixth sixth.
- 43:37Speaker 2: Saturday, June sixth. My birthday is on the seventh. You know,
- 43:39Speaker 2: I'm a fucking diehard Gemini, So but my birthday, the
- 43:43Speaker 2: show is on the six For friends and family, they know,
- 43:45Speaker 2: it's a birthday party. For the general public, it's it's
- 43:48Speaker 2: a it's a solotion.
- 43:49Speaker 1: Where is it.
- 43:50Speaker 2: It's gonna be at Mad Rabbit Studios. Mad Rabbit is
- 43:53Speaker 2: a is a tattoo company.
- 43:55Speaker 1: They is that in Hollywood District.
- 43:58Speaker 2: Okay, okay, so there they have a tattoo shop that
- 44:01Speaker 2: serves as a creative space also in downtown, So I'm
- 44:03Speaker 2: taking over it. You using it as a gallery space
- 44:06Speaker 2: because it's really huge and contemporary, so it works well
- 44:09Speaker 2: for a gallery. Plus I do tattoos too, so it
- 44:12Speaker 2: just works. And those are my guys.
- 44:13Speaker 3: You know, how often are you tattooing people?
- 44:16Speaker 1: You know?
- 44:16Speaker 2: I took a break for a year and a half
- 44:18Speaker 2: last year. Over the last year and a half, I've
- 44:20Speaker 2: been like really working on like mental health stuff, and
- 44:23Speaker 2: I just had to pull back from that stuff. And
- 44:25Speaker 2: it's very like mentally draining because you know, you're thinking
- 44:29Speaker 2: about people's skin. You don't want to fuck anybody else.
- 44:32Speaker 2: And plus you're it's a lot of energy exchange. You know,
- 44:34Speaker 2: you're you're dealing with people, you're touching, you're fucking touching people,
- 44:37Speaker 2: and you're sitting listening to people. People love to like
- 44:39Speaker 2: use that as therapy, so they're just talking about their problems.
- 44:43Speaker 2: So I had to take a break and I just
- 44:44Speaker 2: started to yeah, and I'm like, ro shut the fuck up,
- 44:48Speaker 2: place of doctor dre or sound like you know.
- 44:50Speaker 1: You have you tattooed yourself?
- 44:52Speaker 2: Hell yeah, yeah, I've done most of this work right here, myself.
- 44:55Speaker 2: I got to touch the shut up and I'm looking
- 44:56Speaker 2: ashy as hell. And you know, Matt Rabbit. They there
- 44:59Speaker 2: at Tattoo Aftercare Company. So if anyone's got tattoos, you know,
- 45:03Speaker 2: check their shut out because they got great products to
- 45:05Speaker 2: revitalize their tattoos. I did everything on this arm, and I.
- 45:09Speaker 1: Did That's gotta be hard to get my chest as well, even.
- 45:13Speaker 2: That, yeah yeah, yeah, the birds on my chest. Yeah yeah,
- 45:17Speaker 2: so yeah, you're in the mirror. Nah looking down. You
- 45:20Speaker 2: can't do it in the mirror because it's it's backwards.
- 45:22Speaker 1: Yeah, we try to trip you out.
- 45:23Speaker 2: But yeah, so the show is that mad Rabbit. It's
- 45:26Speaker 2: gonna be lit. I have works from Wes's personal collection
- 45:30Speaker 2: on view. Oh fine, so that's gonna be fun.
- 45:32Speaker 1: And where do you know where the one hundred thousand
- 45:34Speaker 1: dollars Last Supper painting is kept? Yeah?
- 45:37Speaker 2: Yeah, it's at his house. Okay, yeah, I see it
- 45:39Speaker 2: all the time. But he's got multiple places, bro, that's
- 45:42Speaker 2: all over the world. I in fucking Europe right now,
- 45:44Speaker 2: you know, shout out to west you just got sold
- 45:46Speaker 2: out European tour, fucking gangster. I wish I was out there.
- 45:49Speaker 2: I just texted him yesterday. I'm like, bro, you better
- 45:53Speaker 2: saved me some fucking merch something because you know, hat
- 45:56Speaker 2: or anything.
- 45:56Speaker 1: Ship go get Where can people just go to your
- 45:59Speaker 1: website to get a tickets to the show or show
- 46:00Speaker 1: up at the door.
- 46:02Speaker 2: Well, my website is Isaac Polile dot com. But the
- 46:04Speaker 2: best way to RSVP, dude, it's seventeen hundred RSVPs right now.
- 46:09Speaker 1: Oh yeah, And it's probably not the biggest space.
- 46:12Speaker 2: No, So there's gonna be a fat ass line and.
- 46:14Speaker 1: There's probably gonna be people who can't get in. It
- 46:16Speaker 1: might get to the point where it's like, hey, we
- 46:17Speaker 1: gotta wait for ten people to leave.
- 46:19Speaker 2: That's what I'm doing. I have my security running crowd
- 46:21Speaker 2: detail and they're going to be controlling, you know, the
- 46:24Speaker 2: capacity on the inside, letting people in as people come out.
- 46:27Speaker 2: But what's exciting is that I'm releasing and I wanted
- 46:32Speaker 2: to tell talk about this on here. I'm releasing a
- 46:34Speaker 2: limited edition print collab with Shepherd Ferry. It's being available.
- 46:39Speaker 1: Was this something that the genesis of that happening? Was
- 46:42Speaker 1: you going to Louisville for the or you guys already
- 46:45Speaker 1: had some cooking.
- 46:46Speaker 2: I had been plotting this idea for several years, and
- 46:51Speaker 2: I just was waiting for the right time to pitch.
- 46:53Speaker 2: It's him. I mean, Shepherd does not know just anybody
- 46:56Speaker 2: that you could just pitch anyone, you know.
- 46:58Speaker 3: One of the goats and even one of the most
- 47:00Speaker 3: iconic artists modern artists.
- 47:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean even though that he's you know, arguably
- 47:05Speaker 2: a friend, but I look at him as a mentor
- 47:08Speaker 2: and I look up to him first and foremost. I'm
- 47:11Speaker 2: a fan. I say I'm a fan first before I'm
- 47:13Speaker 2: a friend. So I'm always very like reluctant approaching him
- 47:17Speaker 2: about anything or any ideas, but I do consult him
- 47:20Speaker 2: a lot. I ask him for advice all the time
- 47:21Speaker 2: via email and and so finally, you know, I had this.
- 47:25Speaker 2: I was been sitting on this idea and I texted
- 47:27Speaker 2: him just literally a couple days ago, and I was like, dude,
- 47:31Speaker 2: I'm gonna ask you straight up and just give me.
- 47:33Speaker 1: A no or yes.
- 47:35Speaker 2: I bring anything I'm fucking retarded or crazy whatever, but
- 47:38Speaker 2: what do you think about doing this collab with me
- 47:40Speaker 2: for my show? And he was like, yeah, let's do it.
- 47:42Speaker 2: I was like, de was sweating. I was like really,
- 47:45Speaker 2: So I said, look, I'll do all the work. I'll
- 47:47Speaker 2: handle it. So I have a team right now producing
- 47:49Speaker 2: the prints for me. But it's exciting because it's gonna
- 47:52Speaker 2: be dope. The fact that I have and it's related
- 47:55Speaker 2: to wrestling, and the fact that I have West Sides
- 47:59Speaker 2: are and art there and then we have prints I
- 48:02Speaker 2: have Princeville West that are available at the show as well.
- 48:05Speaker 2: And now I have the print clab with Shepherd, the
- 48:07Speaker 2: two people that like, really I sit on the highest
- 48:11Speaker 2: pedestals in my in my career and in my life
- 48:14Speaker 2: as far as influence goes, and I have both of
- 48:16Speaker 2: them somehow involved in President in my show for my
- 48:19Speaker 2: thirtieth birthday, which is less about far less about money
- 48:22Speaker 2: or praise, but more about just the fact that I
- 48:26Speaker 2: get to say for my thirtieth birthday, I was able
- 48:29Speaker 2: to have like the two people that has influenced me
- 48:32Speaker 2: so heavily involved in my show. That's sweet and it's
- 48:35Speaker 2: so cool because you know, I just want to make
- 48:37Speaker 2: them proud, like I just want to stand on their shoulders.
- 48:39Speaker 1: And so is it you you're painting with some Shepherd
- 48:43Speaker 1: like flavor.
- 48:44Speaker 2: You want to see it?
- 48:45Speaker 1: Yes, I want to see I definitely want to see it.
- 48:46Speaker 2: Yeah, it's you have to show it on camera, but
- 48:49Speaker 2: it's it's sick.
- 48:51Speaker 3: Oh that's fire.
- 48:53Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, So this is what we're doing. Super limited,
- 48:56Speaker 2: you know, available at the show. So if you don't,
- 49:00Speaker 2: if you don't get in line early, you're asked out.
- 49:02Speaker 2: And plus I got ship you know, some collection tucked
- 49:07Speaker 2: away from me and West that I've been sitting on
- 49:08Speaker 2: that's going to be available there.
- 49:09Speaker 1: No, that's hard.
- 49:10Speaker 2: So and it's new merch hats, books, prints, custom tote
- 49:16Speaker 2: bags like you know, just ship for for the kids,
- 49:19Speaker 2: for people to be able to buy.
- 49:20Speaker 3: You know, you got to do a bear brick.
- 49:22Speaker 2: That's crazy you say that because I have an all
- 49:26Speaker 2: white bear brick at the house that I'm going to
- 49:28Speaker 2: paint on for the show.
- 49:29Speaker 1: You got it because I hit them up, But no,
- 49:31Speaker 1: I got I got the homies. There's a store name
- 49:34Speaker 1: called three D Retro Familiar and they do a designer con. Yeah,
- 49:39Speaker 1: and they they've done They've helped a few artists get
- 49:43Speaker 1: bear bricks.
- 49:44Speaker 2: You know I was supposed to get.
- 49:46Speaker 1: I feel like the bear brick with the smiley face
- 49:49Speaker 1: will go crazy.
- 49:50Speaker 2: Well that's why I'm going to paint one myself. I
- 49:52Speaker 2: have one at the house. So I'm going to do
- 49:53Speaker 2: it for the show's crazy. You said that. It's literally
- 49:55Speaker 2: in my studio just waiting, So.
- 49:57Speaker 1: You got, I got. I'll tell the guys from Designer Con.
- 49:59Speaker 1: They gotta make it happen with the with the what
- 50:01Speaker 1: the fuck is the name of the Bearberg company, I

- 50:04Speaker 2: Was medic medic medicon.
- 50:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 50:06Speaker 2: So it's funny because you know J C. Lopez, that's

- 50:13Speaker 2: a thing with me an astro boy to do like
- 50:15Speaker 2: an astro boy by Uh that hasn't happened yet.
- 50:19Speaker 1: But dude, I think the bear Brick shits it.

- 50:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that ship would go crazy too, Like
- 50:24Speaker 2: for sure, I would love to do one of those.
