- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to the Sean O'Connell Show from the Murdoch
- 0:07Speaker 1: Hyundai Studio of ESPN 700 and 92.1 FM.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Welcome back to the Sean O'Connell Show on a Friday.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Welcome in the voice of the Utes, Bill Riley, who
- 0:18Speaker 2: six days from now will be calling the first game
- 0:21Speaker 2: of the season at Rice-Eccles Stadium, Idaho versus Utah. conversations
- 0:25Speaker 2: with bill brought to you by friends over at handy
- 0:28Speaker 2: and handy handy law utah.com bill riley welcome back to
- 0:32Speaker 2: the show how are you sir.
- 0:34Speaker 3: Uh sean i'm good doing a little good maybe do
- 0:36Speaker 3: a little scouting of those idaho vandals a little bit
- 0:39Speaker 3: later on this evening as they play the mustangs of
- 0:42Speaker 3: cal poly down in southern california but uh yeah i'm
- 0:46Speaker 3: i'm ready to go let's go.
- 0:48Speaker 2: You got to see more of camp than all of
- 0:50Speaker 2: us regular blokes in the media did. And, you know,
- 0:54Speaker 2: there were a lot of questions heading into this one.
- 0:57Speaker 2: What's the offensive line going to look like? Primarily the
- 0:59Speaker 2: the pressing one for the offense on defense.
- 1:03Speaker 4: You had to.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Figure out what the pass rush is going to be,
- 1:06Speaker 2: what the defensive interior is going to look like.
- 1:09Speaker 4: There's questions at safety.
- 1:10Speaker 2: I think that's a good answer one way or the
- 1:12Speaker 2: other because you've got four guys who can really play
- 1:14Speaker 2: the position. Seeing what you saw and talking to who
- 1:18Speaker 2: you talk to, how do you grade the preseason, if
- 1:22Speaker 2: that's a thing, for Utah football?
- 1:25Speaker 3: I don't know if I could put a grade on
- 1:26Speaker 3: it because it was practice. You don't know until you
- 1:30Speaker 3: get in game situations. But the concerns about the offensive line,
- 1:36Speaker 3: I get it. I've said this about a million times
- 1:39Speaker 3: since the season ended and everybody pointing at those. I
- 1:45Speaker 3: didn't see it a lot in the spring, talking to coaches,
- 1:47Speaker 3: watching fall camp. I think they're going to be good.
- 1:50Speaker 3: I think they're going to be good. They're going to
- 1:51Speaker 3: be fine. There was talent in the program already. There's
- 1:55Speaker 3: more talent that was brought in through recruiting in the offseason.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Good coaching in Jordan Gross. I think the offensive line
- 2:04Speaker 3: for Utah is going to be good. Is it going
- 2:05Speaker 3: to be generational like it was last year? Are they
- 2:08Speaker 3: going to be second in the nation in rushing the football?
- 2:10Speaker 3: I don't know about that. but I don't think that
- 2:13Speaker 3: there's going to be a market drop-off up front this year.
- 2:16Speaker 3: I think it's going to be a good offensive line.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Defensive line, there's a lot of guys there. It's one
- 2:22Speaker 3: of those things, though, that you're not hitting quarterbacks. You're
- 2:25Speaker 3: not doing as much of that stuff physically as you
- 2:28Speaker 3: would in a game situation. So that's probably where I'm
- 2:31Speaker 3: going to watch a lot on Thursday night when Idaho
- 2:34Speaker 3: comes to town, just the rotations and who stands out
- 2:38Speaker 3: on that defensive line because they've got a lot of
- 2:40Speaker 3: bodies there. but they don't have a lot of bodies
- 2:43Speaker 3: that have done it for Utah at a high level.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Cash Dillon was a reserve last year that had some moments.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Lance holds claw had to play behind John Henry Daly,
- 2:54Speaker 3: who was an all American last year. Paul Fitzgerald was
- 2:59Speaker 3: hurt last year. So I, Ethan Day was in North
- 3:03Speaker 3: Texas last year. They brought in three, four new defensive
- 3:07Speaker 3: tackles through the portal. But you've got a couple of
- 3:09Speaker 3: young players who showed some nice flashes in Cepalona and
- 3:13Speaker 3: Kapusi last year. So for me, I don't have much
- 3:18Speaker 3: concern about that offensive line. I'm just, and I don't
- 3:22Speaker 3: have a lot of concern about the defensive line. I
- 3:24Speaker 3: just want to see how that plays because it's a
- 3:27Speaker 3: lot easier to rotate on the defensive line and guys
- 3:30Speaker 3: can earn more snaps. You're going to go with your
- 3:32Speaker 3: five guys on the offensive line. And those are your
- 3:34Speaker 3: five guys. So of the two spots, I'm more anxious
- 3:38Speaker 3: to see what the defensive line does than the offensive line. Okay.
- 3:42Speaker 2: So right or wrong, whatever happens this year is going
- 3:47Speaker 2: to be looked at through the comparative lens, but you know,
- 3:50Speaker 2: what Morgan does in his first year versus what.
- 3:53Speaker 4: We've had in the last 21 years.
- 3:55Speaker 2: And for better or worse, you know, we're, we're going
- 3:57Speaker 2: to hold up, you know, the injury report and all
- 4:00Speaker 2: these things to like, is this better or worse than
- 4:02Speaker 2: it was before with camp in the rear view now
- 4:06Speaker 2: and a week or so of game prep going, those
- 4:10Speaker 2: two guys are more similar than they are different as
- 4:12Speaker 2: coaches as people, but there are differences. were those things
- 4:16Speaker 2: noticeable to you out at camp when you were able
- 4:19Speaker 2: to watch practice, you know, based on conversation with players
- 4:23Speaker 2: and assistant coaches, what are the major differences through the
- 4:26Speaker 2: eyes of the voice of the youths?
- 4:28Speaker 3: I just, there's a different energy that Morgan brings and
- 4:34Speaker 3: just the approach that they have. He wanders the field
- 4:38Speaker 3: a little bit more, I think, than Kyle did. Kyle
- 4:40Speaker 3: moved around a little bit. You know, Morgan would be
- 4:42Speaker 3: here one minute, then he'd look over there, he's gone,
- 4:44Speaker 3: he's at a different point of the field. I really do,
- 4:48Speaker 3: and maybe because I was up there just a lot
- 4:50Speaker 3: more this year, the sports science side of things is
- 4:53Speaker 3: something that Scali and this staff have are really, really
- 4:57Speaker 3: leaning heavily into. That sports science staff, they've beefed up
- 5:01Speaker 3: that staff. It's been really interesting to watch and track
- 5:06Speaker 3: and see how they're leaning in, not just analytically, which
- 5:09Speaker 3: they're doing a lot of that with the new general manager,
- 5:12Speaker 3: Joe D'Orazio, and his staff, but on the sports science
- 5:16Speaker 3: and strength and conditioning side of things, that's been a
- 5:19Speaker 3: little bit different this year, too. And I think I
- 5:22Speaker 3: think that and that approach and the way they approach
- 5:25Speaker 3: fall camp could really pay dividends as this season goes along.
- 5:30Speaker 2: O'Reilly is our guest here on the Sean O'Connell Show,
- 5:32Speaker 2: talking all things Utes. As I want to do, I've
- 5:35Speaker 2: been throwing out some over-unders regarding my predictions for this
- 5:40Speaker 2: upcoming season, the statistical predictions. And one of the ones
- 5:43Speaker 2: that intrigues me the most that we had a good,
- 5:45Speaker 2: robust conversation about with some of the listeners is whether
- 5:48Speaker 2: or not there's a double-digit sack man on the roster
- 5:51Speaker 2: this year.
- 5:52Speaker 3: Uh.
- 5:52Speaker 2: is there a john henry daily who this time a
- 5:55Speaker 2: year ago most of us were not expecting john henry
- 5:57Speaker 2: daily to be an all-american he.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Had a one second twenty twenty four john had one
- 6:02Speaker 3: sack and played limited snaps nobody in their right mind
- 6:06Speaker 3: would have predicted what john henry daily did before the
- 6:09Speaker 3: season last year.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Which informs this question even more right because like lance
- 6:13Speaker 2: holtzclaw is a sack and a half right and a
- 6:16Speaker 2: lot of people think that he is the next big
- 6:18Speaker 2: thing and You already made a great point about cash. Dylan,
- 6:20Speaker 2: when he, when he had reps, he made good use
- 6:23Speaker 2: of those reps in live action. Ethan day is a
- 6:27Speaker 2: game wrecker at the North Texas level. Will he be
- 6:31Speaker 2: at the big 12 level and a healthy Paul Fitzgerald
- 6:33Speaker 2: has already showed us he can have eight sacks for
- 6:38Speaker 2: Utah state. So maybe a little extra weight room, a
- 6:41Speaker 2: little extra coaching, and that eight becomes 10. Is there
- 6:44Speaker 2: a double digit sack man on this year's roster?
- 6:47Speaker 3: I think there's a chance to be all four of
- 6:49Speaker 3: those guys you mentioned. If I was betting, if I
- 6:53Speaker 3: was a betting man, which of course I'm not, this
- 6:55Speaker 3: is for entertainment purposes only. I would bet we have
- 6:59Speaker 3: four of those guys that have between five and eight
- 7:02Speaker 3: sacks each. I would bet we have that, you know,
- 7:05Speaker 3: maybe Holtzclaw grabs nine, maybe Fitzgerald grabs five, maybe day
- 7:10Speaker 3: grabs seven, maybe cash. Dylan has seven or eight, which
- 7:14Speaker 3: by the way, I, if I'm, Inoki Brechterfield, I might
- 7:19Speaker 3: rather have that because that's producing me close to 40
- 7:23Speaker 3: sacks versus one guy that might get 11 and a
- 7:27Speaker 3: half and one guy that might get three. So I
- 7:31Speaker 3: think there's a possibility. I certainly think somebody could, but
- 7:34Speaker 3: I would bet you probably have four guys that have
- 7:37Speaker 3: between five and 10 sacks between them each more than
- 7:41Speaker 3: one guy that's double digits.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Another stat that when I took a look at it again,
- 7:46Speaker 2: it started to rehaunt me over last year because like
- 7:50Speaker 2: this was an 11 and two football team last year
- 7:52Speaker 2: of really excellent year. But there were a couple games where,
- 7:56Speaker 2: even in wins, a lot of us felt sick in
- 7:59Speaker 2: the pit of our stomach with how bad the run
- 8:01Speaker 2: defense was. Utah finished 110th overall in the country in
- 8:06Speaker 2: run defense when it was all said and done last year.
- 8:09Speaker 2: So I lopped 60 yards a game off of what
- 8:12Speaker 2: they gave up last year. And I said, can this
- 8:14Speaker 2: team stay under 125.5 in yards surrendered on the ground
- 8:19Speaker 2: to their opposition? There were only four games last year
- 8:22Speaker 2: where they managed to keep the team, the opposition under
- 8:25Speaker 2: one 25 and a half. If you're in that range,
- 8:28Speaker 2: you're kind of top 30 in the country. I think
- 8:30Speaker 2: that's where you need to be to stay competitive. Unless
- 8:33Speaker 2: you have a crazy offense like they did last year.
- 8:35Speaker 2: The larger question is of course, about improving the run defense,
- 8:40Speaker 2: but can they improve 50 or 60 yards over what
- 8:43Speaker 2: they did last year in your mind?
- 8:45Speaker 3: Well, I think that goes to those guys we were
- 8:47Speaker 3: talking about a minute ago, those tackles. They brought a
- 8:50Speaker 3: lot of guys in like Moe and Sam Sula and
- 8:54Speaker 3: Wallace to be space eaters up front, to eat up
- 8:58Speaker 3: those blocks, to allow the linebackers like Reynolds and Hall
- 9:01Speaker 3: and Palu to kind of do the work behind them. So, yeah,
- 9:06Speaker 3: I think they can't. And to be fair, I mean, They,
- 9:11Speaker 3: they didn't really get beat last year by teams that
- 9:15Speaker 3: ran the ball down their throat. I mean, I know
- 9:18Speaker 3: they gave up those yards in the K state game
- 9:20Speaker 3: and it could have lost that, but they didn't lose
- 9:21Speaker 3: the K state. They gave up some big, the two
- 9:24Speaker 3: games they lost. They were kind of beaten by quarterbacks
- 9:28Speaker 3: in their legs. Bear Bachmeier made big plays with his
- 9:32Speaker 3: legs in the BYU game. LJ Martin wasn't the guy
- 9:35Speaker 3: that beat Utah in that game. Utah beat itself, and
- 9:39Speaker 3: Bachmeier made some nice runs. And to be fair, as
- 9:43Speaker 3: good a running game as Texas Tech had last year, The, the, the,
- 9:47Speaker 3: the tiny back, I think it Williams, Jacoby Williams. He
- 9:50Speaker 3: had one long run, but Utah got beat by Will Hammond.
- 9:54Speaker 3: It was Will Hammond scrambling with the football when he
- 9:58Speaker 3: came in for, um, the starting quarterback last year that
- 10:02Speaker 3: was what beat Utah. So I think Utah and the
- 10:05Speaker 3: K-State game really skewed it badly, but I thought they
- 10:08Speaker 3: were pretty good against the run most of the year, Sean.
- 10:11Speaker 3: except quarterback scramble. So you've got to be able to
- 10:14Speaker 3: account for quarterbacks that can run. Houston's Connor Wegman can
- 10:18Speaker 3: run the football. BYU's Bear Bachmeier can run the football.
- 10:23Speaker 3: We'll see what some of these other quarterbacks have. Arkansas
- 10:26Speaker 3: is probably going to have a quarterback that can run
- 10:27Speaker 3: the football a little bit. So I think for me,
- 10:31Speaker 3: it's when you get those, when you're playing those mobile QBs,
- 10:34Speaker 3: can you keep them from hurting you with their legs?
- 10:38Speaker 2: ESPN put out their list of the top 100 players
- 10:41Speaker 2: in college football. No Utes in the preseason were named.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Last year, obviously, you had Spencer Fano all over these
- 10:48Speaker 2: types of lists. And I think it's OK to look
- 10:51Speaker 2: at the roster now and to not put anyone in
- 10:53Speaker 2: the top 100 of all great college football players. But
- 10:56Speaker 2: if there is somebody who appears on that postseason list,
- 11:01Speaker 2: who would that be?
- 11:03Speaker 3: I think Devin Dampier is the easy answer to that
- 11:06Speaker 3: because if Devin takes another step, I mean, he was
- 11:09Speaker 3: newcomer of the year, the big 12 last year. And
- 11:12Speaker 3: as we have found out subsequently, he was playing through,
- 11:16Speaker 3: he was playing hurt much of the season last year.
- 11:19Speaker 3: So to have the kind of production he had, um,
- 11:22Speaker 3: And in the condition he was physically shows one, his toughness,
- 11:26Speaker 3: but two, what kind of a gamer he is. So I,
- 11:28Speaker 3: I think the easy answer to that is Devin Dampier.
- 11:31Speaker 3: I will throw another guy out there. I think Jackson
- 11:34Speaker 3: Benny has a chance to be that guy. I think
- 11:38Speaker 3: he flashed some of that last year. He's got great
- 11:41Speaker 3: ball instincts. And I think Benny could be a playmaking
- 11:46Speaker 3: type of guy too. I think way Sean Parker will
- 11:48Speaker 3: have a big year, but there's so many good running backs.
- 11:51Speaker 3: There's just so many good runs, not just in the
- 11:52Speaker 3: Big 12, but in the country, that it's hard, unless
- 11:55Speaker 3: you're having a huge, huge year. And maybe if you
- 11:57Speaker 3: play in big games, maybe if he pops against a
- 12:00Speaker 3: Houston or a BYU or an Arizona in some of
- 12:02Speaker 3: those games, you certainly get on that list. But I
- 12:05Speaker 3: would say Dampier is probably the easy answer with how
- 12:07Speaker 3: dynamic he can be and the weapons at his.
- 12:10Speaker 4: Disposal this year.
- 12:11Speaker 3: But I think Jackson Benny might be a sneaky guy
- 12:14Speaker 3: on that list, too.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Bill Riley for another couple of minutes here on the
- 12:17Speaker 2: Sean O'Connell Show, talking all things Utah football. As you
- 12:22Speaker 2: get ready for Idaho, I mean, look, respect to the Vandals,
- 12:26Speaker 2: but these games are what they are.
- 12:28Speaker 4: It's supposed to be a tune-up for Utah.
- 12:30Speaker 2: It's supposed to be an opportunity for you to get
- 12:33Speaker 2: your actual game speed and your playing legs under you.
- 12:36Speaker 2: What is going to look like a successful outing, in
- 12:39Speaker 2: your opinion?
- 12:41Speaker 3: Well, one, you're healthy. You come out of that game healthy.
- 12:45Speaker 3: And there aren't any major sort of issues or injuries there.
- 12:49Speaker 3: But two, I think I said this with Spence, and
- 12:53Speaker 3: I think I've said it on my podcast. Are your
- 12:56Speaker 3: lines of scrimmage, where people have some questions about you
- 12:59Speaker 3: right now, offensive and defensive lines, can you control those
- 13:04Speaker 3: lines of scrimmage? You're playing a 1AA program that's middle
- 13:08Speaker 3: of the pack in their conference. That's a good conference.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Big Sky's a good conference. But there's not a lot
- 13:14Speaker 3: of expectation for Idaho Vandal football this year. So at
- 13:18Speaker 3: your house, with a lot of talent coming back, can
- 13:22Speaker 3: you go and do what you need to do, and
- 13:25Speaker 3: that's own the lines of scrimmage against a team like Idaho?
- 13:29Speaker 3: Because to me, if you're able to do that, you're
- 13:32Speaker 3: doing what you're supposed to do as Utah football. You'll
- 13:35Speaker 3: get a much better test that second week against Arkansas,
- 13:38Speaker 3: but that again, not highly touted this year in the sec,
- 13:42Speaker 3: but they're going to bring it in sec caliber athletes, but,
- 13:45Speaker 3: but how do you look in the trenches and do
- 13:48Speaker 3: you control the lines of scrimmage? And if you do
- 13:51Speaker 3: that final score, whether it's 28 to seven or 63
- 13:56Speaker 3: to nothing, whatever that, that, that doesn't mean as much
- 13:59Speaker 3: to me, but can you control the lines of scrimmage?
- 14:02Speaker 3: Can you protect the football and can you get out
- 14:04Speaker 3: of there healthy? That that's what it is to me.
- 14:06Speaker 3: What about you?
- 14:07Speaker 2: Well, yeah, I think, I think you hit all the
- 14:09Speaker 2: main points here. I, I'm also curious about whoever the
- 14:13Speaker 2: starting five on the offensive line are against Idaho. Do
- 14:17Speaker 2: we see them for the whole game or will the
- 14:19Speaker 2: experimentation continue on that line of scrimmage on the offensive
- 14:23Speaker 2: line of scrimmage, especially because rotation on the defensive line
- 14:26Speaker 2: of scrimmage is a natural thing. Most of the time
- 14:29Speaker 2: you want your same five until, you know, mop up
- 14:32Speaker 2: time when it comes to the starting old line. But
- 14:36Speaker 2: I'm getting conflicting reports on just how settled those battles are.
- 14:39Speaker 2: And I want to know if Jordan gross and company
- 14:41Speaker 2: are going to be like, all right, first quarter, it's
- 14:42Speaker 2: you guys. Second quarter, it's you guys. Cause you can
- 14:45Speaker 2: kind of afford to do that against Idaho. Not so
- 14:48Speaker 2: much against Arkansas or probably even Utah state.
- 14:51Speaker 3: No, I don't think you're going to experiment. I think
- 14:54Speaker 3: you're going to pick your five and then you're going
- 14:56Speaker 3: to say you're playing two quarters or you're playing two
- 14:58Speaker 3: and a half quarters together, because I think you want
- 15:01Speaker 3: those guys in sync and And once you're done with
- 15:05Speaker 3: whatever their snap count is or however long that might
- 15:08Speaker 3: happen to be two and a half, three quarters, then
- 15:10Speaker 3: you're getting them out of there and you're getting some
- 15:12Speaker 3: of those other guys some experience because you and I
- 15:15Speaker 3: both know the odds are of all five offensive linemen
- 15:18Speaker 3: playing every snap of every game together for 12 games,
- 15:21Speaker 3: maybe 13, maybe 14 or more is pretty rare. So
- 15:27Speaker 3: you probably want to get some of those other guys
- 15:29Speaker 3: behind those starters some game experience. But I would be surprised,
- 15:34Speaker 3: and again, I've not talked to Jordan about what the
- 15:37Speaker 3: rotations are going to look like, but I would be
- 15:39Speaker 3: surprised if they're intermixing starters and reserves. I would think
- 15:44Speaker 3: once you pick your five guys, you want to just
- 15:46Speaker 3: get them as many reps together as you possibly can.
- 15:50Speaker 2: How will you handle the week zero slate? Because, you know,
- 15:54Speaker 2: you're all in on football for the next 12 plus.
- 15:59Speaker 2: So do you use this one as you get to
- 16:01Speaker 2: go fishing one last time or how do you treat
- 16:03Speaker 2: week zero?
- 16:05Speaker 3: No, I'm going to watch some football, maybe a little
- 16:07Speaker 3: Idaho Cal Poly tonight to do a little advanced scout,
- 16:11Speaker 3: a little San Jose State, USC, perhaps tomorrow on NBC.
- 16:17Speaker 3: Maybe catch a little, was it UNLV Hawaii tomorrow night? No,
- 16:21Speaker 3: I want to soak a little football in. I've been
- 16:22Speaker 3: waiting for this. Preseason pro football doesn't do anything for me, Sean,
- 16:27Speaker 3: because it just doesn't mean anything and no starters play.
- 16:31Speaker 3: You're going to see starters playing in all these games,
- 16:33Speaker 3: but especially that Idaho Cal Poly game, just so I
- 16:35Speaker 3: can put my eyeballs on Josh Wood and Demonte Bias
- 16:39Speaker 3: and Ferrari Miller and some of these guys from Idaho
- 16:42Speaker 3: who we'll see on Thursday. By the way, that's a
- 16:45Speaker 3: tough back-to-back for the Vandals. You've got to open on
- 16:49Speaker 3: the road against, you know, Cal Poly's not a juggernaut,
- 16:53Speaker 3: but then you have a short week to go to
- 16:55Speaker 3: play in Salt Lake City. That's not easy.
- 16:59Speaker 2: A big picture question for you. And it's been dominating
- 17:02Speaker 2: the storylines earlier in the week.
- 17:04Speaker 4: Not so much today. Will we have a guy or multiple.
- 17:09Speaker 2: Guys that were in training camp with an NFL team
- 17:13Speaker 2: or did OTAs or appeared in a preseason game or
- 17:15Speaker 2: any of that?
- 17:16Speaker 4: Will any of those people.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Actually play college football because of a temporary restraining order
- 17:22Speaker 2: or an injunction or anything else in 2026?
- 17:25Speaker 3: I don't think so. I mean, the leagues have come
- 17:28Speaker 3: out pretty strongly against this. I mean, the SEC, the
- 17:34Speaker 3: Big Ten, the ACC, the Big 12, some of the
- 17:36Speaker 3: group of fives, they're all saying they don't want this.
- 17:39Speaker 3: And if some of the threats by some of these
- 17:41Speaker 3: conference commissioners are true, do you want to really risk that?
- 17:45Speaker 3: Do you want a judge to rule in your favor
- 17:48Speaker 3: and then have another judge overrule it? And then you're
- 17:50Speaker 3: fined a half a million dollars and have to sit
- 17:52Speaker 3: out four or five games? I, I, I understand. I
- 17:57Speaker 3: don't approve of it, but I understand why guys like
- 17:59Speaker 3: Kiffin do it. The, the old thought, if I don't
- 18:02Speaker 3: do it, somebody else might plus Kiffin coach Dequan, right?
- 18:06Speaker 3: Last year at old miss. So I get that a
- 18:08Speaker 3: little bit too, but I think we need to remove
- 18:11Speaker 3: this loophole from the game. I think we just need
- 18:14Speaker 3: to pull this loophole and say, no, no, no, no.
- 18:17Speaker 4: You've made the effort.
- 18:19Speaker 3: You decided to declare to go pro. The eligibility is
- 18:23Speaker 3: what it was, but you chose to do that. You're
- 18:25Speaker 3: not able to come back to college football. So I
- 18:28Speaker 3: don't think we'll see that. I think we're too close
- 18:32Speaker 3: to the season. I think it would cause too much distraction. Plus,
- 18:37Speaker 3: you know, some of these guys, then they have to
- 18:39Speaker 3: come in and learn a playbook. What kind of a
- 18:41Speaker 3: distraction does that bring into your locker room? So, yeah,
- 18:45Speaker 3: I would highly doubt it. You, you're going to, you
- 18:48Speaker 3: think we'll see one?
- 18:49Speaker 4: I don't think we see any. What about in basketball?
- 18:51Speaker 2: Obviously you tell disappointing news with the Noam Yakov situation.
- 18:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Jackson Kohler at BYU, his future now up and up
- 18:59Speaker 2: in the air because of all this stuff.
- 19:01Speaker 4: What do you think in basketball?
- 19:03Speaker 3: Well, we, we, we've, we've seen LSU again in on
- 19:08Speaker 3: the mix with the guy that was the former St.
- 19:10Speaker 3: John's player that was on the jazz roster for a minute. Luis, um,
- 19:16Speaker 3: I think it's more likely we see it in basketball
- 19:19Speaker 3: because there's more opportunities and there's a little bit more time.
- 19:24Speaker 3: I just think we're too close to the college football
- 19:26Speaker 3: season now, but we're still two months away from the
- 19:29Speaker 3: start of college basketball. So that wouldn't surprise me as much,
- 19:34Speaker 3: but I just, I hope it doesn't happen. I just,
- 19:38Speaker 3: at some point, Sean, we have to draw the line
- 19:40Speaker 3: in the sand and, that is actually a permanent line.
- 19:44Speaker 3: It's not something that can be moved. It's not a
- 19:46Speaker 3: chalk line. It's a painted line, a line that can't
- 19:49Speaker 3: be moved. be just brushed away and readjusted. So I just,
- 19:53Speaker 3: I hope we don't see this. We've got enough issues
- 19:56Speaker 3: that we're dealing with to add this another new layer
- 19:59Speaker 3: to it. It just seems like more, I don't know.
- 20:02Speaker 3: It just, it just seems like more than we need
- 20:05Speaker 3: to have at this point in time.
