- 1:33Speaker 1: I'm your host, Rachel Uchitel. On today's episode, we are
- 1:36Speaker 1: going to be talking about all things reality, perception versus
- 1:41Speaker 1: things that are concocted for a storyline. Today's guest is
- 1:45Speaker 1: David Yontef from Behind the Velvet Rope, who was a
- 1:49Speaker 1: reality star in 2011 on Millionaire Matchmaker, and then he
- 1:54Speaker 1: famously came out and outed the show as being fake.
- 1:57Speaker 1: So we are going to talk to him about his
- 2:01Speaker 1: foray into reality television of his own, but how he
- 2:06Speaker 1: then went on to produce his own very famous podcast,
- 2:11Speaker 1: Behind the Velvet Rope, which is literally like one of
- 2:15Speaker 1: the best podcasts out there for reality TV. So thank
- 2:18Speaker 1: you so much for joining me on my podcast.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Thank you for having me. I mean, what an introduction. Misunderstood.
- 2:25Speaker 2: I misunderstood. You're misunderstood. We're all misunderstood, girl. Yeah.
- 2:29Speaker 1: So I want to talk to you from the very beginning.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Start with where are you from and how you got
- 2:35Speaker 1: into this in general?
- 2:36Speaker 2: I mean, look, I've had such a varied... I tell
- 2:39Speaker 2: people I have truly reinvented myself professionally, I think three
- 2:43Speaker 2: or four times. I... Went to law school after college.
- 2:48Speaker 2: I practiced corporate law. I mean, do I look like
- 2:50Speaker 2: a corporate lawyer to you? No. No. Well, it was
- 2:53Speaker 2: not the most interesting profession. You know, it's like I
- 2:56Speaker 2: tell people when you go to grad school, most people
- 2:59Speaker 2: that spend money on grad school, like they love it.
- 3:01Speaker 2: They're studying neuroscience or psychology, getting a PhD. Like I
- 3:05Speaker 2: don't love law school. So right then I should have
- 3:07Speaker 2: been like, I don't know if this is like the
- 3:09Speaker 2: right profession for me. I have to say I use
- 3:12Speaker 2: law in my current job as the host of Behind
- 3:14Speaker 2: the Velvet Rope when I interview people. But So I
- 3:17Speaker 2: did that. Then I fell into HR and recruiting. Then
- 3:20Speaker 2: I had my own staffing agency. So I've really reinvented
- 3:23Speaker 2: myself many times. This is said with no ego. I'm
- 3:28Speaker 2: kind of like a Bethany Frankel when it comes to business. Now,
- 3:31Speaker 2: I don't have the rumored $ 120 million that she sold
- 3:34Speaker 2: her company for. But when I go into a profession,
- 3:37Speaker 2: I figure it out And I'm just like, how do
- 3:42Speaker 2: you do this? Like clear out of my way. Let
- 3:44Speaker 2: me figure this out. And then I figure it out. Now,
- 3:46Speaker 2: I can't do that with like operating on someone's brain.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Like I'm not. But with most professions, I think if
- 3:51Speaker 2: you go into it and you're like, how do you
- 3:52Speaker 2: do this? I'll figure it out. So after I sold
- 3:56Speaker 2: my company, which was a staffing agency, I was kind
- 3:59Speaker 2: of like in between gigs. I wasn't really doing anything. Listen,
- 4:03Speaker 2: I grew up loving pop culture, really. Like 90210, Melrose Place. Like,
- 4:08Speaker 2: I've always been into pop culture. And I've always been
- 4:11Speaker 2: into reality TV from the beginning. The Simple Life, Laguna Beach,
- 4:14Speaker 2: The Hills. The classics, Rachel. Come on. So... I was
- 4:19Speaker 2: in between gigs and I was friendly with a lot
- 4:22Speaker 2: of these real housewives. And they would always say to me, like,
- 4:26Speaker 2: you should do something with this. Like, you're not doing
- 4:27Speaker 2: anything with your life. Like, this is a business. And
- 4:30Speaker 2: when I started my podcast, it really was like Wendy
- 4:34Speaker 2: Williams style. That was my vision. I started one day
- 4:37Speaker 2: a week. Now we're seven days a week. But it
- 4:39Speaker 2: really was Wendy Williams style of like, You and I, Rachel,
- 4:42Speaker 2: you could talk and have a drink at night, but
- 4:44Speaker 2: I'm going to talk about it the next morning. Right.
- 4:46Speaker 2: And say, you know, Rachel, you could tell, you know
- 4:48Speaker 2: all about her. Well, this is what happened last night.
- 4:50Speaker 2: She showed up. She was five minutes late. She had
- 4:52Speaker 2: three drinks. She fell off the barstool. None of that
- 4:54Speaker 2: happened the other night when you and I went out. Right.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Let's be clear.
- 4:57Speaker 1: That did not happen.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Let's be clear. That did not happen. But if it did,
- 5:00Speaker 2: I might talk about it. Right. So it really was like, oh,
- 5:04Speaker 2: and I really, this is how I refer to it.
- 5:07Speaker 2: It's kind of like a child of a celebrity. Like
- 5:10Speaker 2: your life is different. Like I've had people from Mob
- 5:12Speaker 2: Wives on my show. I love talking to them about
- 5:14Speaker 2: like when you grew up, like Did you, were you
- 5:17Speaker 2: aware that what your father was doing was probably not
- 5:21Speaker 2: everyone's father's profession? It's the same thing. So it was
- 5:25Speaker 2: more like I had access to all these like reality
- 5:28Speaker 2: TV people and I was out with them and it
- 5:30Speaker 2: wasn't so interesting to me. It was just my life.
- 5:32Speaker 2: But I'm like, I bet you these stories of who's
- 5:35Speaker 2: leaving with someone who went home with this guy and that.
- 5:38Speaker 2: I'm like, this might be interesting to the public because
- 5:41Speaker 2: these are stories like behind the velvet rope. Like, let
- 5:44Speaker 2: me tell you what actually... So that's like Wendy Williams.
- 5:46Speaker 2: She would go out with a celebrity and be like,
- 5:48Speaker 2: let me tell you what happened last night when I
- 5:49Speaker 2: was out with Blac Chyna. Right. So that's kind of
- 5:52Speaker 2: how my podcast started. It morphed into something totally different.
- 5:56Speaker 2: It morphed into these interviews that because I was like,
- 5:59Speaker 2: no one really cares about me. They want me to
- 6:01Speaker 2: interview all these famous people. And now it's kind of
- 6:04Speaker 2: come back to like five days a week. There's some interviews.
- 6:06Speaker 2: And now the stories have kind of seeped back in
- 6:09Speaker 2: because actually that's what people do want to hear.
- 6:12Speaker 1: How did you come up with the name? It's such
- 6:14Speaker 1: a good name.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Is it? Because it's funny. There were two names. There
- 6:17Speaker 2: was between Behind the Velvet Rope and Name Dropping. Oh.
- 6:22Speaker 2: It's another good one, right?
- 6:23Speaker 1: That is a good one.
- 6:24Speaker 2: So it really was like, you know, Behind the Velvet Rope. Like,
- 6:29Speaker 2: let me take you behind the velvet rope. Like, this
- 6:31Speaker 2: is what happened last night. I was at the bar with,
- 6:34Speaker 2: you know, Ramona Singer. And this is, so it's more like,
- 6:37Speaker 2: Let me peel back the curtain and tell you what
- 6:39Speaker 2: actually is happening with these people when they're not on TV. Right.
- 6:43Speaker 2: So that's kind of where the name came from. And
- 6:46Speaker 2: now it kind of works that it's all these different
- 6:48Speaker 2: celebrity and reality TV interviews. Like let me– I really
- 6:51Speaker 2: like to get into like– it's kind of like what
- 6:54Speaker 2: we were talking about before off air. Like I don't
- 6:56Speaker 2: judge anyone based on anything you see on TV. It's
- 7:00Speaker 2: more like I want one-on-one. I want to know who
- 7:03Speaker 2: you are. Right. And of course you– cover the highlights
- 7:06Speaker 2: of someone's career, but I really want to know what
- 7:07Speaker 2: makes you tick.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Well, you know that behind the velvet rope, there's so
- 7:11Speaker 1: many different things that go into reality versus what's really,
- 7:16Speaker 1: you know, perception and reality. There's two totally different things.
- 7:19Speaker 1: So it's so great to have your podcast where you
- 7:22Speaker 1: get to know the people that people think that they
- 7:24Speaker 1: know because they don't. So you get to hear from
- 7:28Speaker 1: those stars and hear about their lives or hear about
- 7:31Speaker 1: who they really are because Your podcast is specifically talking
- 7:34Speaker 1: to reality stars. And what people don't know is that
- 7:38Speaker 1: these reality stars, sometimes their storylines are completely concocted and
- 7:42Speaker 1: they're not even true. But you got a firsthand knowledge
- 7:45Speaker 1: of that by being on Millionaire Matchmaker. Talk about that.
- 7:48Speaker 1: First of all, how did you get picked for that?
- 7:51Speaker 1: Were you just plucked from obscurity and put into that?
- 7:54Speaker 2: I mean, it's totally– listen, I knew– I kind of
- 7:57Speaker 2: knew someone who knew someone who was doing the casting. Mm-hmm.
- 8:01Speaker 2: And I really didn't want to do it. Like I
- 8:04Speaker 2: wasn't looking to actually date someone at that point in
- 8:07Speaker 2: my life. Like dating was just not– so I was like, okay, well,
- 8:11Speaker 2: I'll– you know, they're like, we're going to put you
- 8:13Speaker 2: on video to submit you. I'm like, great. Come to
- 8:16Speaker 2: my house. And they did all that. It was literally crazy.
- 8:19Speaker 2: like nine months later. So I literally did that, completely
- 8:23Speaker 2: forgot about it. I didn't even want to do the
- 8:27Speaker 2: casting tape. I was like, okay, and this and that,
- 8:30Speaker 2: and what type of lifestyle do you lead? And then
- 8:34Speaker 2: months go by and I get this call. I'm literally
- 8:37Speaker 2: leaving the country to go to Africa because I was
- 8:39Speaker 2: a traveler before COVID. I got to get my travel
- 8:41Speaker 2: bug back on. And they were like, you know, hey,
- 8:44Speaker 2: and this and that. And I'm like, wait, I'm going
- 8:46Speaker 2: to get this. And they're like, oh, no, like we've
- 8:48Speaker 2: loved you since the first, you know, TV. Hurry up
- 8:50Speaker 2: and wait. And I was like, well, OK, I can't
- 8:53Speaker 2: film anything next week. I'm literally not canceling a trip
- 8:56Speaker 2: to Africa unless you want to cover all these expenses. And,
- 8:59Speaker 2: you know, they were like, no, thank you. I'm like,
- 9:01Speaker 2: so thank you for calling me nine months later. Like,
- 9:03Speaker 2: we'll do this like in two weeks when I get back.
- 9:06Speaker 2: And then like when I got back, I was like, oh, God, like,
- 9:09Speaker 2: you know. The thought process of being on the show
- 9:11Speaker 2: was kind of fun. But I was like, oh, fuck.
- 9:14Speaker 2: I actually had like a dating show. Like I actually
- 9:16Speaker 2: have to like meet people and go on a date.
- 9:19Speaker 2: I was like, that's what I didn't want to do.
- 9:20Speaker 2: I'm like, I'll hang out with Patty Stanger. Sure. I'll
- 9:23Speaker 2: have a drink on TV. But like, oh, shit. This
- 9:25Speaker 2: is like a real dating show. I don't want to
- 9:27Speaker 2: go on a date.
- 9:28Speaker 1: But you had seen the show.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Oh yeah, like I knew what the show was. So
- 9:33Speaker 2: I understood and they're like, well, you're getting chosen. And listen,
- 9:36Speaker 2: I am really one who doesn't say no to things
- 9:39Speaker 2: like in life, right? Like it's an experience. Let's go
- 9:42Speaker 2: on it. So I was like, okay, I'll do this.
- 9:45Speaker 2: So like I was excited to do it, but I
- 9:48Speaker 2: wasn't excited to actually like, all of it was fun
- 9:51Speaker 2: until you're like, oh, I actually need, like the mixer
- 9:54Speaker 2: was fun. You met like, there was like 25 cute
- 9:56Speaker 2: guys there. I mean, well, they weren't all cute. But,
- 10:00Speaker 2: you know, then it was like when you actually had
- 10:02Speaker 2: to pick someone and go on a date, I was like, oh,
- 10:04Speaker 2: I don't want to do this.
- 10:05Speaker 1: And did you find anyone you had chemistry with?
- 10:08Speaker 2: No.
- 10:09Speaker 1: So how did you pick?
- 10:11Speaker 2: I mean, listen, it's like– well, you were on the
- 10:13Speaker 2: show too.
- 10:13Speaker 1: I know.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Did you have a mixer? Yeah. No.
- 10:17Speaker 1: So I was– Patty and I knew each other from
- 10:20Speaker 1: the past. So I was on the celebrity version. I'm
- 10:23Speaker 1: saying that with air quotes for people that are listening.
- 10:26Speaker 1: So I was on the celebrity version. And Steve LaBelle
- 10:29Speaker 1: was the other person on the show, the other celebrity.
- 10:33Speaker 1: And he owns WeWork. And we were the two millionaires
- 10:38Speaker 1: or whatever being matched up with partners. So because we
- 10:44Speaker 1: were quote unquote celebrities, Patty was picking for us. And
- 10:48Speaker 1: it was a really fun episode because we were behind
- 10:52Speaker 1: a two way mirror and we got to see the
- 10:55Speaker 1: men or I got to see the men coming through.
- 10:57Speaker 1: And then Patty would interview them in with her, you know, assistants.
- 11:03Speaker 3: They think you're done for the day, but they don't
- 11:06Speaker 3: know about the drawer. The drawer.
- 11:10Speaker 4: Just the one square before bed. Or two, you know,
- 11:16Speaker 4: nobody's watching. You deserve a treat.
- 11:22Speaker 3: With eight flavors to choose from, you can choose the
- 11:25Speaker 3: flavor you favor with Cadbury Dairy Milk.
- 11:34Speaker 1: In groups of four, and the guys would come through.
- 11:37Speaker 1: She would ask them a bunch of questions. I would
- 11:39Speaker 1: be listening in an earpiece and watching on the screen.
- 11:43Speaker 1: And they would film my reaction, her reaction, all the
- 11:46Speaker 1: stuff that was going on. And then they would move
- 11:48Speaker 1: them through groups. And it was 25 guys.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Did you get to say, Patty? Yeah.
- 11:53Speaker 1: And I would be like, Patty, move on. Move on.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Don't even ask this guy's name. This is ridiculous. I mean,
- 12:01Speaker 1: what I found from the show, I mean, I agree
- 12:02Speaker 1: with you just to, like, let's start there. It was fake.
- 12:06Speaker 1: It was fully, it was casted by a bunch of actors,
- 12:09Speaker 1: I think. And what was upsetting to me, though.
- 12:11Speaker 2: I mean, mine were real people.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Well, mine were real people, but they were there to
- 12:16Speaker 1: get famous or to be on the show. I mean,
- 12:18Speaker 1: I went on the show, though, to find love. I
- 12:20Speaker 1: really did. I was a real loser about it. I
- 12:23Speaker 1: was like, oh, good, I'm going to find a husband.
- 12:25Speaker 1: I'm going to find a boyfriend. But when I went there,
- 12:27Speaker 1: I was like, wait a minute. I spent two hours
- 12:29Speaker 1: on the phone with the casting guy talking to him
- 12:32Speaker 1: about what I wanted in a guy, what I was
- 12:34Speaker 1: attracted to. And they took none of my notes because
- 12:37Speaker 1: these guys were all people I was not attracted to,
- 12:42Speaker 1: would never date, and it was a bunch of bozos.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Do you know what I mean? So one of the
- 12:47Speaker 1: guys was this huge bodybuilder, and he took one of
- 12:51Speaker 1: Patty's assistants and started bench pressing her or whatever over
- 12:55Speaker 1: his head.
- 12:56Speaker 2: That wasn't for you.
- 12:57Speaker 1: It was not for me. And this other poor soul,
- 13:00Speaker 1: you know, was like talking about how he had overcome– cancer,
- 13:04Speaker 1: a plane crash, had a leg amputated, and now he
- 13:08Speaker 1: made socks for a living. And it cuts to me
- 13:11Speaker 1: and I'm like, Patty, move on. Like, I feel bad
- 13:16Speaker 1: for this guy, but I cannot date him. Like, what
- 13:19Speaker 1: are we talking about here?
- 13:20Speaker 2: You can't have a sob story on the first date. Yeah,
- 13:22Speaker 2: I can't. This is too much. That's like a tenth
- 13:24Speaker 2: date type of story.
- 13:25Speaker 1: And yeah, so anyways, it got to the point where
- 13:28Speaker 1: I had to pick a guy and I'm like, I'm
- 13:29Speaker 1: not picking any of these guys. And so my name,
- 13:33Speaker 1: you know how she names everybody?
- 13:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Did you get a name?
- 13:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Mine was I was a shredder because I shredded everybody
- 13:41Speaker 1: that I was trying to be set up with. By
- 13:44Speaker 1: the way, that's accurate. I am a shredder. So she
- 13:47Speaker 1: did get that right. But this wasn't fair because.
- 13:49Speaker 2: She got mine right too. I was judgy. I was
- 13:52Speaker 2: like judgy and she put me in a fat suit. What?
- 13:57Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:59Speaker 2: She wanted to teach me a lesson that I shouldn't
- 14:01Speaker 2: judge people based on their looks. So she put me
- 14:04Speaker 2: in like a fat suit. Like they literally, an SNL
- 14:07Speaker 2: makeup person was hired to come in and make my
- 14:10Speaker 2: face under like pockmarks.
- 14:12Speaker 1: This sounds like a fun episode.
- 14:14Speaker 2: It sounds fun.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Wait, was this for the cocktails?
- 14:19Speaker 2: No, this was just like we're going to teach you
- 14:21Speaker 2: a lesson. So they made my face like. pockmarks and
- 14:24Speaker 2: like you know like put like scabs on my face
- 14:27Speaker 2: and put me in a fat suit and then patty
- 14:29Speaker 2: said we're gonna walk outside now this was the new
- 14:31Speaker 2: york season season four and she walked me down she's
- 14:35Speaker 2: like we're gonna go walk down the street right now
- 14:36Speaker 2: and everybody was looking at me and she's like all
- 14:38Speaker 2: these people are staring at you i'm like they're staring
- 14:41Speaker 2: at me because i'm with patty stanger from the millionaire
- 14:43Speaker 2: matchmaker this was actually a popular show at the time
- 14:46Speaker 2: This is like in the middle of Times Square. They
- 14:48Speaker 2: recognize you because you're famous.
- 14:50Speaker 1: And because there's cameramen filming you.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Right. So then she was like they were staring at
- 14:55Speaker 2: you and like one guy. Now, mind you, I also
- 14:57Speaker 2: think this part was probably staged. People were like shaking
- 14:59Speaker 2: their heads and looking at me. Where they found these people,
- 15:02Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Well, probably because they thought you were trying to find
- 15:05Speaker 1: a date.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Well, all I know is then it was supposed to
- 15:08Speaker 2: teach me a lesson of like don't judge people based
- 15:11Speaker 2: on their looks. which I understand that as an adult
- 15:14Speaker 2: that there's more to someone than their looks. But apparently
- 15:17Speaker 2: I was judgy. So you were the shredder and I
- 15:20Speaker 2: was the judgy, judgy person. Oh my gosh. But she, no,
- 15:25Speaker 2: and so I mean how I pick the person to
- 15:26Speaker 2: go on a date with is like, you know, you're
- 15:28Speaker 2: at this mixer. You're meeting like 25 people in a
- 15:31Speaker 2: matter of three minutes. You're obviously just going to choose
- 15:35Speaker 2: two people that you're somewhat attracted to as opposed to
- 15:37Speaker 2: the ones you're not attracted to. Yeah. So I chose
- 15:40Speaker 2: two people for the mini date that I was more
- 15:42Speaker 2: attracted to than not. And then when I went on those,
- 15:46Speaker 2: I was like one person was an actor. And I
- 15:48Speaker 2: was like, this guy wants his fucking camera time. So,
- 15:51Speaker 2: I mean, I'm not choosing him. And the one I
- 15:53Speaker 2: chose to actually go on the date with wasn't– he
- 15:56Speaker 2: really was an innocent person. I actually called him like
- 16:01Speaker 2: two years ago to say– To ask him out on
- 16:03Speaker 2: a date? No, to say you should come on my podcast.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Like I've had Patty on a million times. This would
- 16:08Speaker 2: be interesting. To say, like, as a dater. I mean,
- 16:10Speaker 2: he also hated me because he thought I was obnoxious.
- 16:14Speaker 2: And judgy. And judgy. But, like, we, I mean, we've
- 16:18Speaker 2: all grown. He has a child now. He's a single father.
- 16:20Speaker 2: He wants a kid. You know, so, like, I thought maybe,
- 16:24Speaker 2: and he was like, I don't know if I want
- 16:25Speaker 2: to do this. I was like, okay, well, I mean,
- 16:27Speaker 2: we're not begging you to come on behind the velvet rope.
- 16:29Speaker 2: We have, like, a lot of celebrities here. And I
- 16:32Speaker 2: just thought it would be a great show. And if
- 16:34Speaker 2: you really are that torn apart about this, you don't
- 16:37Speaker 2: have to come on the podcast. Right. So here we
- 16:40Speaker 2: are having another falling out 10 years later. But I
- 16:43Speaker 2: wish you the best of luck, Christos. Yeah. Okay.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Well, my guy, I think his name was Brandon, was
- 16:50Speaker 1: so sweet. His issue, he was a trainer or something. And,
- 16:54Speaker 1: you know, I have us telling a story because I
- 16:56Speaker 1: want people to understand about reality TV.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Okay.
- 16:59Speaker 1: You know, I was working on my reputation at the
- 17:02Speaker 1: time because so many people hated me, I guess. And
- 17:06Speaker 1: it was a dating show. So they really edited me
- 17:10Speaker 1: to be nice. Patty was very nice to me. And
- 17:14Speaker 1: I really did not like this guy. I mean, I
- 17:15Speaker 1: was like, I'm not going to date this guy. And
- 17:17Speaker 1: they were like, listen, we're trying to edit you in
- 17:19Speaker 1: a nice way. Just date him and be nice. Give
- 17:21Speaker 1: him a chance. So I was like, fine, I'll give
- 17:23Speaker 1: him a chance. He was so nice.
- 17:25Speaker 2: You didn't even want to date him on the show.
- 17:27Speaker 1: I didn't even want to date him on the show.
- 17:28Speaker 1: I'm like, this is not my type. And they were like,
- 17:30Speaker 1: stop being a shredder. Just give him a chance. So
- 17:33Speaker 1: they sent us to a baseball game. place where you
- 17:36Speaker 1: like hit balls. I can talk to a frog. I
- 17:40Speaker 1: could not find anything to talk to this guy about.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I mean, really. So they kept saying cut and they
- 17:45Speaker 1: would take me to the side to do like those
- 17:47Speaker 1: one-on-one things. And I would get so frustrated because I'd
- 17:51Speaker 1: be like, you guys, I can't, I cannot say anything.
- 17:53Speaker 1: I can't find anything to talk to this guy about.
- 17:55Speaker 1: And they would be like, just lie, just act, be
- 17:58Speaker 1: an actress. I'm like, but I'm not an actress. I'm
- 18:00Speaker 1: here to find love. And I can't even find anything
- 18:03Speaker 1: to say about him. So then fast forward to our dinner.
- 18:06Speaker 1: We're at some fancy restaurant and they have us eating
- 18:08Speaker 1: and we literally have nothing to talk about. And the
- 18:11Speaker 1: producers call me over and they're like, we need a kiss.
- 18:14Speaker 1: I said, you want me to kiss this guy? I
- 18:16Speaker 1: can't even get anything out of my mouth just to
- 18:18Speaker 1: even converse with him about. And they're like, okay, you're
- 18:21Speaker 1: going to walk out of the restaurant where we have
- 18:23Speaker 1: a bunch of cameras set up and you're going to kiss.
- 18:25Speaker 1: It's sunset. And you're going to kiss right at the
- 18:28Speaker 1: front of the door. I'm like, in front of all
- 18:29Speaker 1: these people? I mean, it was a working restaurant, a
- 18:32Speaker 1: huge restaurant with a lot of people in it.
- 18:34Speaker 2: And they're like, just do it?
- 18:35Speaker 1: And they're like, just do it. And I'm like, okay,
- 18:39Speaker 1: I'm going to do this once.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Was he cute?
- 18:42Speaker 1: He was very cute. I'm like, I'm going to give
- 18:43Speaker 1: you one take, but if you don't get it, I'm
- 18:46Speaker 1: not doing this again. So the guy who is, he's
- 18:49Speaker 1: very sweet. I feel bad because maybe I am a shredder.
- 18:51Speaker 2: He's cute?
- 18:52Speaker 1: Yeah, he's very handsome.
- 18:53Speaker 3: I mean.
- 18:53Speaker 1: So listen to this story. It's kind of great. So
- 18:55Speaker 1: we're walking out and he's trying to talk to me
- 18:58Speaker 1: about God knows what, because of course I'm not listening.
- 19:01Speaker 1: And we get out to the front and there's all
- 19:03Speaker 1: these people there and there's all these cameramen, right? And
- 19:05Speaker 1: he's talking to me and I just grab him and
- 19:07Speaker 1: I start to kiss him. And the sunset is there
- 19:11Speaker 1: and the people are there and everybody's watching. And he's
- 19:15Speaker 1: in the middle of a sentence and I grab him
- 19:16Speaker 1: and we just start kissing. And he's just like, wow,
- 19:19Speaker 1: because he didn't know I was going to kiss him.
- 19:20Speaker 1: And he was really into me. And you feel it
- 19:25Speaker 1: like the music swells. And by the way, when they
- 19:27Speaker 1: edited this, the music was swelling and, you know, you
- 19:30Speaker 1: could see it happening. Anyways, the way they edited this
- 19:33Speaker 1: was that it was like so emotional and we were
- 19:36Speaker 1: so into each other. And they make it look like
- 19:38Speaker 1: we're so having the best time ever. Meanwhile, I got
- 19:42Speaker 1: right into a car and I went straight.
- 19:44Speaker 2: To the airport. And did he ever follow up? Yes.
- 19:47Speaker 1: To this day, he still Facebook messages me. He's just
- 19:51Speaker 1: the nicest guy.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Does he live in LA? Yes. Is he still cute? Yes. Single?
- 19:55Speaker 1: He's still a trainer. No, I don't know. I mean,
- 19:57Speaker 1: I don't ever look him up or anything, but every
- 19:59Speaker 1: once in a while I'll get a little WhatsApp or
- 20:01Speaker 1: message being like, hey, Rachel, he's still this smiley, upbeat guy,
- 20:05Speaker 1: you know?
- 20:06Speaker 2: Mine was not.
- 20:06Speaker 1: But by the way, I wasn't even single by the
- 20:08Speaker 1: time they were shooting it. I went there looking for love,
- 20:11Speaker 1: but I had just started dating Brett Boone, you know,
- 20:14Speaker 1: the Major League Baseball player who was retired at the time.
- 20:18Speaker 2: I'm a gay man. I don't know anything of this sort. Okay.
- 20:20Speaker 1: So, and he was not happy that I was going
- 20:22Speaker 1: on the show. So I was fine that I had
- 20:24Speaker 1: no connection with anybody, but From the moment that they
- 20:28Speaker 1: say you're going to be on the show to when
- 20:30Speaker 1: they film it, it's like eight months or something. So
- 20:34Speaker 1: I was single when I wanted to be on the show.
- 20:36Speaker 1: But then when they actually book you or when they
- 20:39Speaker 1: have you go on the show, it's like forever. So,
- 20:41Speaker 1: you know, I didn't really want to find love there.
- 20:44Speaker 1: But I did.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Do you know what I mean?
- 20:45Speaker 1: Anyway, so those things are staged.
- 20:48Speaker 2: I will say. No, I mean like the mixer is
- 20:51Speaker 2: like they make it seem you're like I'm choosing two
- 20:54Speaker 2: people that I'm remotely attracted to because I talk to
- 20:56Speaker 2: these people for literally the whole mixer where you're like
- 20:59Speaker 2: supposed to mingle and meet. Everyone's there for me. It's
- 21:02Speaker 2: like a minute and a half. So you're like, yes.
- 21:06Speaker 2: I mean my thing was the opposite of yours. When
- 21:08Speaker 2: I went on my date, they played like birds chirping
- 21:11Speaker 2: because it was so boring. To your point. My date
- 21:14Speaker 2: was very boring, too. Yeah. And so after dinner, I
- 21:16Speaker 2: think we went to the plaza for dinner. Oh. And
- 21:19Speaker 2: then we went out afterwards.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Bravo played, paid for.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Honey, no.
- 21:23Speaker 1: For the plaza?
- 21:23Speaker 2: They paid for nothing. Oh. They say you have to
- 21:25Speaker 2: pay for the date. So, you know, millionaire matchmaker. I'm like, listen,
- 21:29Speaker 2: it's not like I'm cheap, but I'm not taking this
- 21:32Speaker 2: person that I don't even want to go out with,
- 21:35Speaker 2: like flying a helicopter to the Hamptons for.
- 21:39Speaker 3: They think you're done for the day, but they don't
- 21:42Speaker 3: know about the drawer. The drawer.
- 21:46Speaker 4: Just the one square before bed. Or two, you know.
- 21:52Speaker 4: Nobody's watching. You deserve a treat.
- 21:58Speaker 3: With eight flavours to choose from, you can choose the
- 22:01Speaker 3: flavour you favour with Cadbury Dairy Milk.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Like $ 2, 000 or whatever it was. Right? I'm like, my
- 22:12Speaker 2: date's going to be, we went furniture shopping because I
- 22:15Speaker 2: was looking for furniture, which that's a whole thing.
- 22:17Speaker 1: That's so dumb.
- 22:18Speaker 2: But it was like a nice furniture. They thought, they're like, oh,
- 22:21Speaker 2: that's good. And then, yeah, the date said, well, I
- 22:25Speaker 2: think it's.
- 22:25Speaker 1: I wonder it was boring, David. That's a horrible idea
- 22:27Speaker 1: for a date. Well, he said, I think it's.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Very obnoxious that he's taking me furniture shopping. Like the
- 22:31Speaker 2: chandelier was like $ 10, 000. Like I can't afford that. Anyway. Why?
- 22:35Speaker 1: You wanted him to pay for it?
- 22:37Speaker 2: No. I was the one who was the millionaire. But
- 22:40Speaker 2: I thought furniture shopping and then a dinner afterwards, which
- 22:43Speaker 2: we did. And then we had dessert in Central Park.
- 22:45Speaker 2: And that was when the birds were chirping because it
- 22:48Speaker 2: was so– like, at this point, I'm like, this is
- 22:50Speaker 2: the last scene I have to film. Like, I don't
- 22:52Speaker 2: even want to try. I'm so fucking bored. So that's
- 22:55Speaker 2: literally– you know, like, on, like, Snow White where they have, like,
- 22:57Speaker 2: little birds. They had, like, birds chirping of, like, yeah,
- 23:00Speaker 2: this cookie is good. Yeah. Mm-hmm.
- 23:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:03Speaker 2: No, it was bad.
- 23:04Speaker 1: It's the worst.
- 23:04Speaker 2: At the dinner, they also staged a, like, because I'm
- 23:07Speaker 2: so picky, remember? I ordered a Grey Goose. This became
- 23:11Speaker 2: my thing, like, around the world. I ordered a Grey Goose.
- 23:15Speaker 2: I'm like, Grey Goose pear in a martini glass chilled
- 23:19Speaker 2: with a lime twist. That means Grey Goose pear, the
- 23:22Speaker 2: actual vodka, in a martini glass, nothing else. It's a
- 23:26Speaker 2: very simple drink. They purposely brought me Grey Goose pear with, like,
- 23:31Speaker 2: muddled pear or like a grapefruit juice. So I like
- 23:34Speaker 2: sipped it and I'm like, this isn't just vodka. There's
- 23:37Speaker 2: something else in it. So I'm like, I don't care
- 23:39Speaker 2: if the steak is supposed to be rare and it's
- 23:41Speaker 2: not rare. This don't fuck with my martini girl. This
- 23:46Speaker 2: drink was not the actual drink. It wasn't just vodka.
- 23:49Speaker 2: So I sent it back. And of course that was staged.
- 23:52Speaker 2: And then the date was like, he sent the date,
- 23:54Speaker 2: the drink back and it's the wrong fucking drink. It's
- 23:57Speaker 2: an all, that was my thing about how picky I
- 23:59Speaker 2: was that I sent a drink back Well, give me
- 24:01Speaker 2: the right drink, Carl, and I won't send it back.
- 24:04Speaker 2: When I want just vodka, I don't want grape juice
- 24:06Speaker 2: in my vodka.
- 24:07Speaker 1: Okay, you sound obnoxious. Okay, so how did they edit it?
- 24:12Speaker 1: Did it all seem good at the end when they
- 24:13Speaker 1: edited it and you watched it on TV?
- 24:15Speaker 2: Shockingly, Patty didn't tell me off. I got an okay edit,
- 24:20Speaker 2: but I got a picky edit. But at the end,
- 24:23Speaker 2: she was like, you just need to learn to be
- 24:24Speaker 2: less picky. I mean, here I am. But is it
- 24:27Speaker 2: 14 years later and I'm still single? So something must
- 24:29Speaker 2: be wrong. Right.
- 24:30Speaker 1: So they got that right. But in general, when you're
- 24:32Speaker 1: talking about reality TV and how it's filmed and then
- 24:37Speaker 1: the end result, don't you agree that there's a lot
- 24:40Speaker 1: of staged things and then how the outcome is, is
- 24:43Speaker 1: not necessarily what reality is.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Totally. Yeah.
- 24:47Speaker 1: And that's what you cover on your show.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Because this drink, I really, this is how it works.
- 24:52Speaker 2: Like I literally, it didn't cross my mind. It didn't
- 24:55Speaker 2: think about it. I just sent the drink back because
- 24:57Speaker 2: it was wrong. It was like not even on my radar.
- 25:01Speaker 2: And then when the show came out, this drink being
- 25:03Speaker 2: sent back was a whole thing. So yeah, like you
- 25:06Speaker 2: don't even– these producers of reality TV are so good
- 25:10Speaker 2: at what they do. You don't even realize it. I
- 25:12Speaker 2: mean now because I host this podcast and I'm in,
- 25:16Speaker 2: I can watch reality TV and say, oh God, that's
- 25:18Speaker 2: so fake. And so now it's like this drink was
- 25:20Speaker 2: being sent back. But at that time, I was innocent.
- 25:23Speaker 2: I didn't realize. But yes, it's totally. Look, it's like
- 25:26Speaker 2: I think your reaction to things are real, but they
- 25:33Speaker 2: set up scenarios, right? Right. And especially if you look
- 25:36Speaker 2: at like housewives, like when you're doing your confessionals, I mean,
- 25:40Speaker 2: you do those after the fact. So you're now asked
- 25:42Speaker 2: to talk about something like eight months later after it
- 25:45Speaker 2: was filmed or four months. So like your emotions aren't there,
- 25:48Speaker 2: but the producers will bring out your emotions. Or, you know,
- 25:52Speaker 2: they'll even say like, well, aren't you mad at her
- 25:55Speaker 2: for doing that? And you'll sit there as a housewife,
- 25:58Speaker 2: not that I am a housewife, but this is how
- 25:59Speaker 2: it works. And you'll be like, I mean, you have
- 26:01Speaker 2: to be an idiot to not realize like, well, I'm
- 26:03Speaker 2: not mad, but I should be mad because you're asking
- 26:06Speaker 2: this question. I want to keep my job. Right. So
- 26:09Speaker 2: that's the stuff that's not real. Right. Right.
- 26:12Speaker 1: But I think that's a good point that the reactions
- 26:16Speaker 1: tend to be true or, you know, you can't ever
- 26:19Speaker 1: represent yourself as fake because that's who you are.
- 26:22Speaker 2: Right.
- 26:22Speaker 1: But but the way they edit things can make you
- 26:27Speaker 1: look different.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Yes. Yeah.
- 26:30Speaker 1: And the storylines, though, cannot be real. So sometimes your
- 26:34Speaker 1: storyline or you as a person come on and you've
- 26:37Speaker 1: got nothing to offer. And so you need to come
- 26:40Speaker 1: up with something to offer to either keep your job
- 26:42Speaker 1: or to seem more interesting, right?
- 26:44Speaker 2: Yeah. And I mean look, I've never– like I don't
- 26:48Speaker 2: really edit my podcast. But they'll even take something where
- 26:53Speaker 2: you say like I'm really mad about this or whatever
- 26:55Speaker 2: your sentence is and they will put it in– not
- 26:58Speaker 2: to me but they do this to housewives and bravo.
- 27:01Speaker 2: they'll put it in a different sentence. They'll put it
- 27:05Speaker 2: in a like, like I'm mad at you and I'm
- 27:07Speaker 2: having an issue with you, but that's not the storyline
- 27:09Speaker 2: because you and I are friends. They'll put it towards
- 27:12Speaker 2: something else. Like it's, I have no situations that have
- 27:15Speaker 2: happened to people like that.
- 27:16Speaker 1: To start a fight, you mean?
- 27:18Speaker 2: Yeah. So that's where it's like, is it really real? Right, right, right.
- 27:22Speaker 2: You know, like I think if I ever got on
- 27:24Speaker 2: a reality show now and I was a cast member,
- 27:27Speaker 2: I just know how it's made. Like I would be
- 27:29Speaker 2: able to tell And I would sign up. I would
- 27:32Speaker 2: be game for it because it could lead to a
- 27:34Speaker 2: lot of money.
- 27:35Speaker 1: So you would go on a reality show?
- 27:38Speaker 2: Yes, because I, yeah.
- 27:41Speaker 1: Which one?
- 27:42Speaker 4: Yeah, of course.
- 27:42Speaker 1: Because people that say that they wouldn't, I think they're
- 27:47Speaker 1: not telling the truth. I mean, the opportunities that come
- 27:49Speaker 1: with it are so much. I mean, you get so
- 27:53Speaker 1: much out of it.
- 27:54Speaker 2: You get so much out of it. I said this
- 27:56Speaker 2: in my next life. Now, I'm not stopping the Behind
- 27:59Speaker 2: the Velvet Road podcast, which is seven days a week,
- 28:01Speaker 2: which is a celebrity interview podcast. And it's very successful,
- 28:04Speaker 2: as you said. But if I were to go away
- 28:07Speaker 2: and come back in another life, I truly would start
- 28:10Speaker 2: a reality TV business and say, this is how you get.
- 28:14Speaker 2: Let's talk about how you get onto the show. Then
- 28:16Speaker 2: when you got there, I would give you guidance for
- 28:18Speaker 2: your first year, your fifth year, and your 10th year.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Because people do so many things wrong. If I got
- 28:24Speaker 2: on a show, I would definitely do it. I agree
- 28:26Speaker 2: with you, there are opportunities, but I would never do
- 28:29Speaker 2: it the wrong. Some of these housewives, and I know
- 28:32Speaker 2: this for a fact, they have Finsta accounts. They spend
- 28:36Speaker 2: all day targeting each other. That's not in your contract.
- 28:40Speaker 2: You don't get more money for it. They really take
- 28:43Speaker 2: it to bed. So if I was on a show
- 28:45Speaker 2: and you were my enemy on the show and you
- 28:46Speaker 2: said awful things about me, I wouldn't care at all.
- 28:50Speaker 2: I would be like, say, girl, have your day. Because
- 28:54Speaker 2: my job is to like, Bravo pays you or whatever
- 28:57Speaker 2: network to be on the show. So all this social
- 29:00Speaker 2: media slant, you could say anything you want. So I
- 29:02Speaker 2: would do it because I think I know how to
- 29:05Speaker 2: do it. And so anything you want to say about me,
- 29:08Speaker 2: all this stuff off, I wouldn't care.
- 29:09Speaker 1: It's part of the show, right? You think it's part
- 29:11Speaker 1: of the circus.
- 29:12Speaker 2: It's part of the circus. And I would be like,
- 29:14Speaker 2: from day one, I'd be like, Girl, what is your
- 29:17Speaker 2: side hustle? Figure it out. Are you going to write
- 29:19Speaker 2: a book? And most of this stuff doesn't even pay
- 29:21Speaker 2: you money. Right. Are you going to have a Pinot Grigio?
- 29:24Speaker 2: Like what is it? I mean, look, we have Bethany
- 29:26Speaker 2: Frankel is the most successful of anyone. But like Countess Luanne,
- 29:30Speaker 2: her cabaret tour, that's a real– it makes a lot
- 29:35Speaker 2: of money. She sells out.
- 29:37Speaker 1: So it's like– But they should come up with a
- 29:39Speaker 1: side hustle. because the show isn't going to last forever.
- 29:42Speaker 1: And when it does end, like the Housewives of New York,
- 29:45Speaker 1: you have to have established a side hustle already to
- 29:48Speaker 1: continue that income. Because if you don't have that income,
- 29:51Speaker 1: what are you going to do? Because those shows eventually
- 29:55Speaker 1: will end.
- 29:56Speaker 2: They eventually will end. That's the thing. Like I would
- 29:59Speaker 2: tell you from the first, it's always shocking to me
- 30:01Speaker 2: like when it's your turn to get fired. Not even
- 30:03Speaker 2: New York because the whole thing went away. But like
- 30:05Speaker 2: each housewife is so shocked when they're fired. It's like,
- 30:08Speaker 2: but everyone's fired. Like everyone.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Because they think they're just not replaceable, right? They all
- 30:14Speaker 1: think that they're so special.
- 30:16Speaker 2: In the first episode of our course that you're going
- 30:19Speaker 2: to sign up for, it's like going to be $ 2, 500
- 30:21Speaker 2: to join my course. But this is a course that
- 30:22Speaker 2: will change your life. I would say my advice to
- 30:25Speaker 2: you if you get on reality TV is every day.
- 30:28Speaker 2: I would do it every day. You need to go
- 30:30Speaker 2: and take your shower and get ready. You need to
- 30:32Speaker 2: look in the mirror before you go out and say,
- 30:34Speaker 2: I'm nothing special. I would say that to yourself. Sorry.
- 30:38Speaker 2: That's my advice. Like, you're so replaceable. Right. And if
- 30:43Speaker 2: you don't want to feed into all the hate that
- 30:45Speaker 2: you get on social media, you can't feed into all.
- 30:47Speaker 2: Everyone that wants a picture with you, stop. Take the picture,
- 30:51Speaker 2: but that can't feed your soul. And I really, I don't,
- 30:55Speaker 2: I interview people in their first year on the show
- 30:58Speaker 2: and then it's not even years. They come back their
- 31:00Speaker 2: second season. It's like a different person. I swear to you.
- 31:04Speaker 2: I'm like, don't change girl. Oh, I'm not going to
- 31:05Speaker 2: change the second season. They come back on my podcast.
- 31:09Speaker 2: It's like the person, it's like a whole different person.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Change in what way?
- 31:12Speaker 2: That they think their shit don't stink.
- 31:15Speaker 1: So it's affected them. They're no longer taking pictures with people.
- 31:19Speaker 1: They're no longer humble. They've really become someone different.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I get it. I love you.
- 31:27Speaker 2: I love you. I love you. I love you. I mean,
- 31:30Speaker 2: they don't love you. They love you on the show.
- 31:33Speaker 2: And it is you. You're not an actress, but it's
- 31:36Speaker 2: a produced version of yourself. And they don't know you.
- 31:40Speaker 2: And let me tell you, when the producers do you dirty,
- 31:43Speaker 2: they're eventually going to do you dirty. Right. Like, look,
- 31:47Speaker 2: do I think Lisa Rinna was the, she caused her
- 31:51Speaker 2: own demise, but not really. I think producers pat you
- 31:54Speaker 2: on the back and they're like, you're having a great season. Like,
- 31:58Speaker 2: they give you the rope to hang. When it's your time,
- 32:00Speaker 2: Dorinda in New York City for Housewives, when it's your
- 32:03Speaker 2: time to go, I feel like they know it. Like,
- 32:08Speaker 2: it's what's happening with Melissa Gorga now in New Jersey. Like,
- 32:11Speaker 2: they know it, but I think they encourage you.
- 32:14Speaker 3: They think you're done for the day, but they don't
- 32:17Speaker 3: know about the drawer. The drawer.
- 32:21Speaker 4: Just the one square before bed. Or two, you know.
- 32:27Speaker 4: Nobody's watching. You deserve a treat.
- 32:33Speaker 3: With eight flavours to choose from, you can choose the
- 32:36Speaker 3: flavour you favour with Cadbury Dairy Milk.
- 32:44Speaker 2: To go to the end of that cliff and dive off.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Oh, why? You think it's the end for her?
- 32:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:50Speaker 1: Why do you say that?
- 32:52Speaker 2: I mean, 100%. Well, I mean, I think as an audience.
- 32:55Speaker 1: You think she's committing suicide right now, basically?
- 32:59Speaker 2: Well, I think she knows it. I think, like, it's
- 33:01Speaker 2: like people are over Teresa versus Melissa now, for real.
- 33:05Speaker 1: And they're picking Teresa?
- 33:06Speaker 2: I mean, Teresa is the number one most protected housewife
- 33:10Speaker 2: out of any franchise.
- 33:11Speaker 1: Is that because she just got remarried? You think? And
- 33:15Speaker 1: she has a new storyline?
- 33:16Speaker 2: No. It's just, I mean, this show, let's not forget,
- 33:19Speaker 2: stopped when this woman went to jail. I mean, she's just,
- 33:24Speaker 2: she is the New Jersey show. It's like the most
- 33:27Speaker 2: power any housewife has. Kyle Richards from Beverly Hills is
- 33:30Speaker 2: a very close second. She'll never get fired. Okay. She shouldn't. Like,
- 33:34Speaker 2: she doesn't do anything so egregious or she's doing the job,
- 33:38Speaker 2: but Kyle will never be fired. So with people who
- 33:41Speaker 2: hate Teresa, I'm like, I'm not saying I'm such a
- 33:43Speaker 2: Teresa fan. It's just a fact. She's never going to
- 33:46Speaker 2: be fired. So just, yeah, Melissa's going. Really. Mark my words.
- 33:51Speaker 1: We heard it here first.
- 33:52Speaker 2: You heard it here first.
- 33:54Speaker 1: And do you believe the gossip that Kyle and Mauricio
- 33:58Speaker 1: are separating or divorcing?
- 34:01Speaker 2: I mean, this thing about Mauricio has been around forever.
- 34:04Speaker 2: Apparently he plays around. That's what's out there. I don't
- 34:09Speaker 2: really feel that. I mean, I don't know Mauricio.
- 34:14Speaker 1: My friend was just in Aspen this weekend and said
- 34:16Speaker 1: that PK and Mauricio were there skiing together, no wives.
- 34:22Speaker 1: Boys trip.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Interesting. And did he see Mauricio walking out of the
- 34:28Speaker 2: bar with anyone at night?
- 34:30Speaker 1: That I can't say, but she just thought it was
- 34:33Speaker 1: interesting that no women were there.
- 34:35Speaker 2: I mean, that's interesting. I mean... I don't know. I
- 34:38Speaker 2: feel like I don't put anything past anyone. Of course. Yeah.
- 34:42Speaker 1: Well, why?
- 34:43Speaker 2: But I don't see it. Like, I don't see that
- 34:46Speaker 2: as much as people say it. But that's the thing
- 34:49Speaker 2: that people say all the time, that Mauricio plays around. Yeah.
- 34:53Speaker 2: I don't see it.
- 34:54Speaker 1: Well, and let's talk about Skandoval for a second, you know,
- 34:57Speaker 1: as we have to for two seconds here. But, you know,
- 35:01Speaker 1: why would we put anything past anyone when on a
- 35:04Speaker 1: show like this, You know, people are cheating, but everyone
- 35:08Speaker 1: is getting so up in arms about such a cheating
- 35:12Speaker 1: scandal that it's on the cover of the New York Times.
- 35:14Speaker 1: It's become mainstream fodder, not just entertainment conversation pieces. Why
- 35:21Speaker 1: do you think that is?
- 35:23Speaker 2: I don't know. I really don't know. I mean, maybe,
- 35:29Speaker 2: I don't know. It's like this show was so good
- 35:32Speaker 2: for like seven seasons and then seasons eight and nine
- 35:35Speaker 2: were horrible.
- 35:37Speaker 1: What season are we on now?
- 35:38Speaker 2: Ten.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Okay, ten.
- 35:39Speaker 2: So I don't know. Is it that you all counted
- 35:43Speaker 2: out Vanderpump Rules and at the end of the day
- 35:45Speaker 2: this is the most explosive show? Because we've had so
- 35:49Speaker 2: many cheating situations in this show.
- 35:53Speaker 1: Right.
- 35:54Speaker 2: I don't understand why. It was a girl and she
- 35:58Speaker 2: cheated on– she's really good friends. I guess. She hasn't
- 36:02Speaker 2: been on the show for that long, but she was
- 36:04Speaker 2: friends with Ariana. It's kind of maniacal that, like, you're saying, like,
- 36:09Speaker 2: you're my best friend and let's have a pajama party
- 36:11Speaker 2: and then you're going and sleeping with her boyfriend, I guess,
- 36:13Speaker 2: and that. But I don't know why it's so shocking
- 36:16Speaker 2: to me.
- 36:16Speaker 1: But hasn't this show been riddled with people cheating on
- 36:21Speaker 1: each other?
- 36:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:22Speaker 1: And everyone that's so up in arms on this show
- 36:25Speaker 1: has been a cheater at some point or a mistress
- 36:29Speaker 1: at some point, correct? More or less, yeah. I definitely
- 36:33Speaker 1: am not someone who can throw shade at anyone about this.
- 36:36Speaker 1: I'm just asking because I'm not really understand all the
- 36:39Speaker 1: hatred that like Raquel is getting versus Tom. I mean,
- 36:44Speaker 1: I don't hear all that hatred towards Tom as much
- 36:47Speaker 1: as I'm hearing it towards Raquel. And quite frankly, I
- 36:51Speaker 1: see that they're all in a much better position now
- 36:54Speaker 1: than they were before. Their show is doing much better.
- 36:58Speaker 1: It's probably the number one rated show on Bravo, I
- 37:00Speaker 1: would think.
- 37:01Speaker 2: And Ariana? What's her name? Ariana.
- 37:05Speaker 1: Ariana is now going to be an actress on Lifetime
- 37:10Speaker 1: TV in a movie. And what's your prediction for her
- 37:14Speaker 1: going forward?
- 37:15Speaker 2: My prediction. I told you this. My prediction. We just
- 37:18Speaker 2: said this when you were on my podcast. Look, it
- 37:21Speaker 2: wouldn't shock me if she was given an offer to
- 37:24Speaker 2: be the Bachelorette.
- 37:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 37:26Speaker 2: That's amazing. It's so... Like, think about it. And at
- 37:29Speaker 2: least Dancing with the Stars. Now... Like Celebrity Big Brother,
- 37:33Speaker 2: that's not the hardest gig to get. Like The Masked Singer.
- 37:37Speaker 2: There's some B-list type. But Dancing with the Stars is
- 37:40Speaker 2: a really hard gig to get. We've had housewives that
- 37:44Speaker 2: are major housewives. Like Teresa, Kenya Moore, Erika Jayne.
- 37:49Speaker 1: But no one from Vanderpump Rules.
- 37:51Speaker 2: And Lisa Vanderpump. But there's no one else from Vanderpump
- 37:54Speaker 2: Rules that would ever be able to get that Dancing
- 37:57Speaker 2: with the Stars contract. Never. I'm going to say that. Right.
- 38:00Speaker 2: It wouldn't shock me if Ariana got that now. Right. Honestly.
- 38:04Speaker 1: Or The Bachelorette makes so much sense. Yes. This damsel
- 38:07Speaker 1: in distress who needs a knight in shining armor to
- 38:11Speaker 1: fawn after her. I mean, it totally makes sense.
- 38:14Speaker 2: And they talk to you before you go on. You say, Patty,
- 38:17Speaker 2: you know, this and that, the producers. No, The Bachelorette,
- 38:19Speaker 2: like they start with like, you know, you don't see
- 38:22Speaker 2: the people, but they start with like, tell us what
- 38:24Speaker 2: you are looking for. Right. I'm sure she's going to say,
- 38:26Speaker 2: I mean, for me, it's, like, you should want, like,
- 38:29Speaker 2: a school teacher that teaches, like, special ed kids. Like,
- 38:35Speaker 2: special needs kids. Like, you should want, like, a nice,
- 38:38Speaker 2: humble person. That's my advice for Ariana. Like, forget this
- 38:42Speaker 2: Hollywood bullshit of someone with, like, a porn stash that, like.
- 38:46Speaker 1: What is that, by the way?
- 38:47Speaker 2: I have no idea.
- 38:48Speaker 1: He didn't look like he had that 10 years ago
- 38:50Speaker 1: or nine years ago.
- 38:50Speaker 2: I have no idea.
- 38:51Speaker 1: Why did he turn out like that? I don't watch
- 38:54Speaker 1: the show, but I did see some clips from before
- 38:57Speaker 1: when they met originally and they started dating. He looked
- 39:00Speaker 1: like a nice looking guy. And now he turned into
- 39:04Speaker 1: somewhat of a, I mean, I thought he was almost
- 39:06Speaker 1: bisexual or something. He looks like a different type of
- 39:09Speaker 1: like LA vibe guy.
- 39:11Speaker 2: That's the last thing.
- 39:12Speaker 1: I mean, she lives in L.A. Not that there's anything
- 39:14Speaker 1: wrong with that, but he just, you know, he looks
- 39:16Speaker 1: very artsy or a musician or, I don't know, just
- 39:19Speaker 1: totally different.
- 39:20Speaker 2: I want her.
- 39:21Speaker 1: That mustache has to go.
- 39:22Speaker 2: It has to go. She, I'm telling you, I think
- 39:26Speaker 2: she should date, like, a school teacher and accountant or something.
- 39:30Speaker 2: like a nice, humble profession of someone that's like, you know,
- 39:35Speaker 2: an accountant that goes to the office and has, that
- 39:38Speaker 2: is my advice.
- 39:38Speaker 1: Someone reliable.
- 39:39Speaker 2: Right. But so like they'll, they'll ask her on the bachelorette,
- 39:42Speaker 2: they'll say, what's your type and what are you looking for?
- 39:44Speaker 2: And they get cute guys. So they'll get 25 cute
- 39:46Speaker 2: guys and America, this is your victim. And, you know,
- 39:51Speaker 2: I think it would be really a good thing. It
- 39:55Speaker 2: would rate really well. And she looks the part and
- 39:58Speaker 2: she's the right age. I'm predicting she becomes the Bachelorette.
- 40:01Speaker 1: Not only would it be great ratings for Bravo in general,
- 40:04Speaker 1: but because it would pull them over, you know, the
- 40:07Speaker 1: ratings from the Bachelorette. They would love it. that conversation
- 40:14Speaker 1: for ages. So I think it would be a great idea.
- 40:17Speaker 2: And I think she could carry the show. Like she'll, she's,
- 40:20Speaker 2: if she didn't look the part or it's perfect for ABC.
- 40:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:24Speaker 2: It's a huge platform.
- 40:26Speaker 1: So what do you think are the other scandals going
- 40:30Speaker 1: on right now that we may not have seen in
- 40:32Speaker 1: reality TV? Cause we've been so shocked and in shock
- 40:36Speaker 1: and awe about Scandaval. Is there anything else going on
- 40:39Speaker 1: in reality TV right now?
- 40:41Speaker 2: I mean, look, the Chrisleys are in jail. Jen Shah's
- 40:44Speaker 2: in jail. We just had a round of scandals. What
- 40:49Speaker 2: else is there? You know, Kim Zolciak and her ever-ending
- 40:53Speaker 2: she can't pay her mortgage, she's going to lose the house.
- 40:55Speaker 2: I mean, that's kind of over. Look, I mean, a
- 40:58Speaker 2: lot of people say things about Louis, Teresa's guy, that he's,
- 41:02Speaker 2: you know, strange and has bad business dealings going on.
- 41:07Speaker 2: The Gorgas are being convinced of bad business dealings. I
- 41:11Speaker 2: say all the time about Dorit and PK, I don't
- 41:14Speaker 2: understand their finances. I just don't understand where the money
- 41:18Speaker 2: comes from. I know that he manages Boy George and
- 41:21Speaker 2: Culture Club. Have I seen Culture Club?
- 41:25Speaker 1: Yeah, how much work could Boy George have? Do you
- 41:28Speaker 1: see him in concert a lot?
- 41:30Speaker 2: I've seen them in concert, and guess what? PK is there. PK,
- 41:33Speaker 2: he's on. So he really does manage Boy George.
- 41:37Speaker 1: Are they doing a tour across country?
- 41:40Speaker 2: They're always doing like a little something, but I mean,
- 41:42Speaker 2: it's not.
- 41:43Speaker 1: Are they playing in Madison Square Garden or are they
- 41:46Speaker 1: like the Beacon?
- 41:46Speaker 2: The Beacon. Okay. And I mean, that's the thing. If
- 41:49Speaker 2: you manage Beyonce, Taylor Swift, if you're like in the
- 41:52Speaker 2: camp with Lady Gaga, I understand where maybe your money
- 41:56Speaker 2: comes from. I mean, still the star is getting all
- 41:58Speaker 2: the money, but I don't understand from Culture Club. I mean,
- 42:02Speaker 2: no offense.
- 42:03Speaker 1: How much are those tickets, do you think?
- 42:05Speaker 2: I mean, I've gone probably like, if you want like
- 42:07Speaker 2: a right, yeah, not more than like a hundred.
- 42:10Speaker 1: Right.
- 42:11Speaker 2: You know, $ 75. I don't, I just, I don't understand.
- 42:14Speaker 2: Dorit comes down to breakfast in Beaumont and then has
- 42:19Speaker 2: lunch in like head to toe Gucci and then is
- 42:21Speaker 2: like in Dior for dinner. And then the next morning
- 42:24Speaker 2: is in, I mean, these outfits alone do, I don't
- 42:27Speaker 2: understand it.
- 42:28Speaker 1: And that's not who she was when he married her.
- 42:31Speaker 1: By the way, I mean, you've seen the pictures. You
- 42:33Speaker 1: know who she was when they got married, right?
- 42:36Speaker 2: I went to high school with Dorit.
- 42:38Speaker 1: Oh, well, tell us.
- 42:39Speaker 2: Rachel's like, where's that one? Yeah, I mean.
- 42:43Speaker 1: Well, fill us in. Did she have an accent?
- 42:45Speaker 2: We were different years. She did not have an accent.
- 42:49Speaker 3: They think you're done for the day, but they don't
- 42:52Speaker 3: know about the drawer. The drawer.
- 42:56Speaker 4: Just the one square before bed. Or two, you know,
- 43:02Speaker 4: nobody's watching.
- 43:04Speaker 3: You deserve a treat. With eight flavors to choose from,
- 43:10Speaker 3: you can choose the flavor you favor with Cadbury Dairy Milk.
- 43:19Speaker 2: Name?
- 43:19Speaker 1: Is it Dorit?
- 43:20Speaker 2: Yeah. Her parents are, they're from Israel. I think they were,
- 43:24Speaker 2: I mean, they were either like first generation here, but
- 43:26Speaker 2: they're Israeli. So it's really Dorit. There was no accent,
- 43:30Speaker 2: different hair, different nose.
- 43:32Speaker 1: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 43:34Speaker 2: You're like, oh my.
- 43:35Speaker 1: Was she a blonde?
- 43:36Speaker 2: No. Wow. Dark curly hair.
- 43:39Speaker 1: And what was the accent?
- 43:41Speaker 2: Like this was high school in Connecticut. I mean. Wow. Right.
- 43:45Speaker 2: So like we're not, you know, New York has an accent.
- 43:49Speaker 2: Even LA sometimes you could have that valley accent. I mean,
- 43:52Speaker 2: I don't know. There's no accent in Connecticut the last
- 43:54Speaker 2: time I checked. I mean, maybe I have a Connecticut accent.
- 43:58Speaker 2: I don't, people tell me I have a New York
- 43:59Speaker 2: or LA accent, but like I haven't been in Connecticut
- 44:02Speaker 2: in forever, but there was no accent in Connecticut. It's
- 44:04Speaker 2: like one of the accentless states. There was no accent.
- 44:08Speaker 1: So, and was she nice?
- 44:10Speaker 2: We were different years. We shared sisters, like my really
- 44:15Speaker 2: good friend and her, like my best friend and her
- 44:18Speaker 2: best friend were sisters. So we are, there was like,
- 44:22Speaker 2: we are, we have that connection. There was like a
- 44:24Speaker 2: boat trip. All I remember is there was like my
- 44:26Speaker 2: friend's 30th birthday, I think. It was one of those birthdays.
- 44:31Speaker 2: And she, we went out on her father's boat. And
- 44:34Speaker 2: then the sister brought her best friend who was Dorit.
- 44:37Speaker 2: And I just remember she was like Titanic at the
- 44:40Speaker 2: helm being like, I'm going to be famous one day.
- 44:44Speaker 3: Oh, boy.
- 44:44Speaker 2: And all the parents were like, get, you know, you're
- 44:46Speaker 2: going to fall in the water. And she was like,
- 44:49Speaker 2: I'm going to be famous. And she was at the
- 44:51Speaker 2: helm of the boat like that. Oh, wow. Yeah. Yeah.
- 44:54Speaker 2: So girlfriend had a plan and I think, you know,
- 44:59Speaker 2: to marry someone with lots of money or– but so
- 45:03Speaker 2: I don't– I don't– I just– I don't understand Dorit
- 45:06Speaker 2: and PK. Like I went on a– PK blocked me. Okay.
- 45:11Speaker 2: I mean I'm blocked by a lot of people.
- 45:12Speaker 1: I'm sure you are. Well, I can stick up for
- 45:15Speaker 1: her in the way that I used to date PK,
- 45:17Speaker 1: as you know. And, um, I did. And, um, he
- 45:22Speaker 1: is very charming, but I do know that when he
- 45:25Speaker 1: starts to date you, that he, he didn't really try
- 45:27Speaker 1: to change me at all, but I do know that
- 45:30Speaker 1: he has the capability to be somebody who can, he
- 45:34Speaker 1: can spend a lot of money on your appearance, on
- 45:36Speaker 1: your clothes and really change you. And I know that
- 45:41Speaker 1: he you know at some point wanted to change his
- 45:44Speaker 1: life when he moved to America and be something different
- 45:47Speaker 1: and get into the spotlight more so he picked someone
- 45:51Speaker 1: who he could obviously change and mold and someone who's
- 45:55Speaker 1: going to go on along on that ride with him
- 45:57Speaker 1: so she was you know, good enough to do that with.
- 46:01Speaker 2: In other words, these two little fame whores found each other.
- 46:04Speaker 2: Is that what you're saying?
- 46:05Speaker 1: You said it, not me.
- 46:06Speaker 2: I mean, you know, so it's perfect. Yeah. I mean, look,
- 46:10Speaker 2: I mean, if I was married to someone and you
- 46:12Speaker 2: were spending like all this on clothes, I mean, I
- 46:15Speaker 2: guess he must like it if it's all about the image,
- 46:17Speaker 2: but I just don't get it. I mean... And Louis
- 46:21Speaker 2: Vuitton doesn't give, you know, maybe they give stuff to
- 46:24Speaker 2: their spokesperson. You know, Jaden Smith is now represented by
- 46:27Speaker 2: Louis Vuitton. He's like one of the faces of the brand.
- 46:30Speaker 2: I think Jaden Smith might get some stuff for free.
- 46:33Speaker 2: I mean, Jaden Smith is major. Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, they're
- 46:37Speaker 2: not giving free stuff to Dorit.
- 46:39Speaker 1: No, and I think she's even said she pays for
- 46:41Speaker 1: all of it.
- 46:41Speaker 2: She does. So I just don't understand it. I literally don't. Like, okay,
- 46:46Speaker 2: so sweetheart, that outfit is like $ 30, 000. I just added
- 46:49Speaker 2: it up. Now, for lunch, you have another outfit for $ 50, 000. Like,
- 46:52Speaker 2: this is real. It adds up. I don't get it.
- 46:55Speaker 1: So what do you think about the break-in she had?
- 46:58Speaker 1: They never found the people that stole all that stuff.
- 47:02Speaker 1: Don't you think that's incredibly shady that they didn't find
- 47:04Speaker 1: the people that stole all the items? It was all
- 47:07Speaker 1: her clothes, right?
- 47:08Speaker 2: And bags? It was the clothes. And, you know, like, look,
- 47:10Speaker 2: I mean, I think it's probably real, but I understand
- 47:14Speaker 2: why– you know, if it's all covered by insurance and it's,
- 47:18Speaker 2: you don't want to wear the same thing more than once.
- 47:20Speaker 1: Right. It's a great way to start all over with
- 47:23Speaker 1: a new wardrobe.
- 47:24Speaker 2: Start all over. Yeah. I mean, right.
- 47:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I guess so.
- 47:28Speaker 2: I mean, the person leaves the phone. I mean, I
- 47:30Speaker 2: don't know if you, like you.
- 47:31Speaker 1: I saw the whole thing. Yeah.
- 47:32Speaker 2: The phone.
- 47:33Speaker 1: Why would they be nice enough to leave her the phone?
- 47:35Speaker 2: And she says, please leave my phone. I mean, I
- 47:38Speaker 2: don't know. Like, I would want my phone, but when
- 47:41Speaker 2: you're like at gunpoint, I wouldn't think about my phone.
- 47:44Speaker 1: It is a little bit odd that they had her
- 47:47Speaker 1: at gunpoint and then she asks for her phone.
- 47:51Speaker 2: It's a little, that part's strange to me.
- 47:52Speaker 1: You would think that you wouldn't be making requests.
- 47:55Speaker 2: I would be like, yes. I would say yes, yes,
- 47:59Speaker 2: and yes.
- 47:59Speaker 1: And I am a little surprised that more people that
- 48:02Speaker 1: do follow that whole scenario didn't question a little more stuff.
- 48:07Speaker 1: But anyways, we don't need to get into it.
- 48:09Speaker 2: All right.
- 48:09Speaker 1: Let's talk a little bit more about your podcast. And
- 48:11Speaker 1: I'm just curious for people starting a podcast because I've
- 48:13Speaker 1: started my own, obviously, and I know how hard it is, too.
- 48:16Speaker 1: But how did you figure out how to start your podcast?
- 48:19Speaker 1: And for people looking to start their own, like literally
- 48:22Speaker 1: the logistics, like how did you come up with starting
- 48:24Speaker 1: your own podcast and get into it?
- 48:26Speaker 2: Well, I also do consulting on the side of people.
- 48:30Speaker 2: You know, all this help I've given you for starting
- 48:32Speaker 2: your podcast, I've comped you my hourly rate, Rachel. I know.
- 48:36Speaker 1: I'm so lucky.
- 48:37Speaker 2: But I do it.
- 48:37Speaker 1: And how could people do it with you?
- 48:39Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, really, I do that. I don't think
- 48:41Speaker 2: you knew that. But I, look, I mean, I just
- 48:45Speaker 2: figured out like one thing after another, after another. When
- 48:50Speaker 2: I started, I really, I know, I mean, I know
- 48:52Speaker 2: how to record a show. I knew what I was
- 48:55Speaker 2: going to do and talk about, but I didn't know anything.
- 48:58Speaker 2: I didn't know you had to upload it to like
- 48:59Speaker 2: a third party site. And then that's how it gets
- 49:01Speaker 2: out on Apple. So I figured that out. Then I
- 49:05Speaker 2: didn't know anything else. I was like, one day I
- 49:07Speaker 2: was like, I need to teach myself how to edit
- 49:09Speaker 2: this because I would send it out to be edited.
- 49:11Speaker 2: And I was like, it's either taking too long or
- 49:13Speaker 2: so it's like step by step. I just started taking
- 49:16Speaker 2: things back in house. How do people go about it
- 49:20Speaker 2: I mean look if you I tell people like if
- 49:23Speaker 2: you want to have a podcast you should always remember
- 49:28Speaker 2: like you know well I always say to someone like
- 49:31Speaker 2: what's the goal like if your goal is to have
- 49:34Speaker 2: your hour with your mom on a Friday night and
- 49:37Speaker 2: you guys have your wine and you're having a good
- 49:39Speaker 2: time And you're doing that, then why are you hiring me?
- 49:43Speaker 2: Then what's the problem? You're doing it. If your goal
- 49:46Speaker 2: is to like make money, it's a whole different situation. Right.
- 49:51Speaker 2: Because it's not about you. It's about what the audience wants.
- 49:56Speaker 2: I think a lot of people that have a podcast
- 49:58Speaker 2: get too self-indulgent. And it's not, I mean, now I'm
- 50:03Speaker 2: more self-indulgent on my show than I was in the
- 50:06Speaker 2: beginning because it's four years later and people are tuning
- 50:08Speaker 2: in for me. So it's actually they want me to
- 50:11Speaker 2: be self-indulgent and talk a little bit about myself. But
- 50:14Speaker 2: at first, it's really like, what does the audience want?
- 50:18Speaker 2: It's all about the numbers. Like, I can tell you
- 50:22Speaker 2: mostly what guest is like the big guest. Like, I
- 50:26Speaker 2: can say, this is a great guest. No one's going
- 50:28Speaker 2: to listen to this. But OK, I owe this publicist
- 50:32Speaker 2: a favor. The person's on brand. Or I could say,
- 50:35Speaker 2: I love this TV show. So I'm interviewing this person.
- 50:37Speaker 2: I don't care if anyone listens. But I can pretty
- 50:40Speaker 2: much predict if a show is going to be like
- 50:42Speaker 2: a huge show, a medium show, or a small show.
- 50:45Speaker 1: Who were your favorite guests that you've had on in
- 50:48Speaker 1: the past?
- 50:48Speaker 2: I feel like it's always changing. But like there were
- 50:53Speaker 2: certain big moments where it was like I can't. Like
- 50:55Speaker 2: for me it was like a couple of people like
- 50:57Speaker 2: Susan Lucci. I mean there's no soap actress that's more
- 51:01Speaker 2: famous in daytime TV than Susan Lucci. Period. So it
- 51:04Speaker 2: was just one of these of like she wasn't promoting anything.
- 51:07Speaker 2: It was like a friend of a friend. And I
- 51:09Speaker 2: was like. She didn't want to be on video because
- 51:11Speaker 2: she had to do hair and makeup. But I'm like, okay,
- 51:14Speaker 2: she's going to decide the day of. And I'm like,
- 51:16Speaker 2: please let her be on video. She was on video.
- 51:18Speaker 2: I mean, Susan Lucci, that's like a big deal. So
- 51:21Speaker 2: now it's like, okay, I've had her and other people
- 51:23Speaker 2: like her. So it's like it's always changing.
- 51:26Speaker 1: Did she talk about anything good?
- 51:28Speaker 2: Just like she was just– Susan Lucci. She was amazing.
- 51:33Speaker 2: She was like amazing. So like her, I mean, then
- 51:36Speaker 2: there were just other ones like Jenny Garth. Like I'm
- 51:38Speaker 2: a huge 90210 fan. Like for me, that was big.
- 51:42Speaker 2: And then like I'm trying to think like Nancy Grace.
- 51:45Speaker 1: Oh, I love her. She's my favorite.
- 51:47Speaker 2: Which is like, she's, that's a big deal. Like Nancy
- 51:50Speaker 2: Grace is like a big name. So it's just like
- 51:53Speaker 2: certain things where it's like, you know, I've had all
- 51:56Speaker 2: the housewives, but certain things Where you're just like, this
- 51:59Speaker 2: is a big deal. Like this person doesn't need to
- 52:01Speaker 2: do my podcast. I had Snooki. Like Snooki's not an
- 52:04Speaker 2: easy person to book. Right.
- 52:06Speaker 1: Now you had Anne Heche, her very last interview that
- 52:11Speaker 1: was ever done before she died. Tell me about that.
- 52:14Speaker 2: Loved her. Loved her.
- 52:16Speaker 1: And a very misunderstood woman at that.
- 52:18Speaker 2: Completely misunderstood. She said yes because she had a podcast
- 52:23Speaker 2: to promote. So like, you know, like it's. And you learn, like,
- 52:26Speaker 2: that's how the interview has to work. We have to
- 52:28Speaker 2: plug what you want to plug. But, you know, I'm sorry.
- 52:31Speaker 2: We have to talk. I can't not mention the word Ellen. Degenerous. Like,
- 52:35Speaker 2: I'm sorry. Like, just, you know, certain people are tied
- 52:38Speaker 2: to other people for the rest of their lives, Rachel,
- 52:40Speaker 2: as you know, whether you want to be or not. Right.
- 52:43Speaker 2: It wasn't the whole interview. So we talked about Ellen.
- 52:47Speaker 2: You know what it is? The interview went viral, but
- 52:51Speaker 2: it would have gone viral for different reasons if she
- 52:54Speaker 2: didn't Like, she said stuff about Ellen. Like, I said
- 52:58Speaker 2: to her, the question I thought would be viral, because
- 53:01Speaker 2: this is where being a lawyer helps me do my job,
- 53:04Speaker 2: because I know how to back you into a corner.
- 53:06Speaker 2: And whatever you answer to this question, it's going to
- 53:08Speaker 2: be a headline. Like, my big question for her was like,
- 53:11Speaker 2: you know... You were one of the first people that
- 53:15Speaker 2: was canceled. You were canceled before cancel culture. I mean,
- 53:17Speaker 2: she was canceled. Right.
- 53:19Speaker 1: Because of her situation with Ellen.
- 53:20Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. And people wouldn't work with her in Hollywood.
- 53:23Speaker 1: Because they thought she was crazy or on drugs or something.
- 53:26Speaker 2: Yeah. And like, I guess.
- 53:27Speaker 1: And also because of her sexuality.
- 53:29Speaker 2: Right.
- 53:30Speaker 1: It was so misunderstood.
- 53:30Speaker 2: Like, she was canceled. So my question was like, now
- 53:34Speaker 2: Ellen technically is canceled. I mean, she's not. Ellen has
- 53:38Speaker 2: a gazillion dollars. Right. And, you know, the queen of
- 53:42Speaker 2: mean and her show went away. So I'm like, you know,
- 53:44Speaker 2: do you take, like, is there some satisfaction that, like,
- 53:50Speaker 2: this woman got you canceled or the situation and now
- 53:53Speaker 2: she's canceled? And she was like, no, like that's not–
- 53:58Speaker 2: like I wish her the best. I'm not that person.
- 54:00Speaker 2: So I mean that would have been a headline. It
- 54:02Speaker 2: could be a positive headline. But because she passed away,
- 54:07Speaker 2: what went viral around the entire world is I asked
- 54:10Speaker 2: her– I mean I just didn't know if I had
- 54:13Speaker 2: the foreshadowing of anything happening. I said like if they
- 54:15Speaker 2: were going to make a movie on your life, who
- 54:17Speaker 2: would you want to play you? Which is, and she
- 54:20Speaker 2: was like, you know, we need to finish the sentence.
- 54:22Speaker 2: And if she said, like, some actress that nobody knows about,
- 54:25Speaker 2: it wouldn't have been a thing. But she's like, I
- 54:26Speaker 2: can tell you exactly right now, Miley Cyrus, and here's why.
- 54:28Speaker 2: As soon as she said Miley Cyrus, I'm like, this
- 54:31Speaker 2: is fucking huge. It's just a huge thing. And she
- 54:34Speaker 2: had reasons, and so... I could see it. I could
- 54:37Speaker 2: see Miley Cyrus playing her. Right. So because she passed away,
- 54:41Speaker 2: that was a headline. Like if she said some actress
- 54:43Speaker 2: from TV, it still would have– but Miley Cyrus is
- 54:46Speaker 2: the biggest thing in the world. Yeah. And so that
- 54:48Speaker 2: went viral because she gave reasons. Oh. Yeah. And I
- 54:51Speaker 2: was like– and she's like, it's second Kristen Bell I
- 54:54Speaker 2: think she wanted. But it was really Miley. And then
- 54:56Speaker 2: like they reached out to Miley. This is when you
- 54:59Speaker 2: hit the pager when like the person responds. Wow. So
- 55:03Speaker 2: then Miley, and it's like.
- 55:04Speaker 1: Miley responded.
- 55:06Speaker 2: Yeah. Like not to me. No, but to the article. Yes.
- 55:08Speaker 2: And so then that became a headline.
- 55:10Speaker 1: And what did Miley say?
- 55:11Speaker 2: Just like, she's honored. Yeah. So it became a whole
- 55:14Speaker 2: thing for like weeks. And it still like comes up. Like,
- 55:19Speaker 2: and just, I mean, a lot of my interviews do,
- 55:21Speaker 2: but like, that's when it's like good press. When you're like,
- 55:23Speaker 2: it's like six months later and you're minding your own
- 55:25Speaker 2: business and you're, yeah, of course I have myself on
- 55:27Speaker 2: Google alerts, honey. And like your Google alerts are going
- 55:30Speaker 2: off and you're like, well, what happened? It was like,
- 55:32Speaker 2: When something happens, like her son, this and that, like
- 55:34Speaker 2: when something happens with her now, I'm in the Google alerts. Right.
- 55:37Speaker 2: It says in earlier, you know, last year or this year,
- 55:40Speaker 2: she said this one she would play her. It's like
- 55:42Speaker 2: a thing. What a sad story. I absolutely loved her.
- 55:46Speaker 2: And I don't– first of all, not all my interviews
- 55:48Speaker 2: are good. I have plenty of interviews where I'll interview
- 55:50Speaker 2: someone and I'll be like, that just wasn't good. The
- 55:53Speaker 2: show still goes out. You've wasted an hour of my time.
- 55:55Speaker 2: But just certain people– it's rare, but certain people you
- 55:59Speaker 2: just– Don't click with. You don't. They're not getting you.
- 56:03Speaker 2: They're not getting you. It's rare. But then other days
- 56:06Speaker 2: you're like, man, I just, I wasn't in the mood.
- 56:09Speaker 2: Like I was off today. So sometimes it's you.
- 56:12Speaker 1: Was there a guest that when you met them, you
- 56:14Speaker 1: were like, this person is not who I thought they were.
- 56:18Speaker 1: And you just didn't like them?
- 56:20Speaker 2: That you can name. I mean, I'll name. I'm trying
- 56:23Speaker 2: to think. Yeah, there are definitely people where you just think,
- 56:27Speaker 2: and I wish I could make an example, where you
- 56:29Speaker 2: think like, wow, I'm so excited. This person is so
- 56:35Speaker 2: friendly and fun and yes. And then there are other
- 56:39Speaker 2: people where you're like, I don't get scared, but you're like,
- 56:43Speaker 2: oh my God, like I got to tread lightly. Like
- 56:44Speaker 2: this person is going to be a bitch or like difficult.
- 56:48Speaker 2: And they just come on and they're like, wait a second,
- 56:51Speaker 2: I can't find the picture. And hi, darling. And you're
- 56:53Speaker 2: just like right from the beginning before you even start,
- 56:55Speaker 2: you're like, oh, this is going to be good. Right.
- 56:58Speaker 2: So it's like, yeah, I've had them both ways where
- 57:01Speaker 2: you're like on edge, like a Nancy Grace. She was great.
- 57:05Speaker 2: But like someone like that where you're like, I'm a
- 57:07Speaker 2: little intimidated.
- 57:08Speaker 1: Because on air, she is so intimidating. I mean, she
- 57:11Speaker 1: is all about aggression on her show.
- 57:13Speaker 2: And she'll call me out if I say something. And
- 57:15Speaker 2: she called me out. At times, but in like, I said,
- 57:21Speaker 2: one of my questions, which in retrospect, I understood, like,
- 57:24Speaker 2: I was like, this is almost an offensive question, David, like,
- 57:28Speaker 2: but it wasn't. It's just like, I asked her, like,
- 57:30Speaker 2: you know, I said, like, you know, I'm from New
- 57:31Speaker 2: York and like, you know, we're outspoken, like New Yorkers. But,
- 57:36Speaker 2: you know, where does like a nice woman from the–
- 57:39Speaker 2: like how did this personality develop? And she's like, now,
- 57:44Speaker 2: you know, like we're getting along. And, you know, if
- 57:46Speaker 2: I didn't have a great 20 minutes with you, you know,
- 57:49Speaker 2: and this and that, I would almost think this was
- 57:51Speaker 2: an insulting question. She said something like that. Very nice.
- 57:53Speaker 2: And I was like, you know what? This is actually
- 57:56Speaker 2: an insulting stereotypical question. You're right. It's not appropriate. So
- 58:01Speaker 2: I called myself out. But someone like that. But it
- 58:03Speaker 2: was just other types of people where, yeah, I wish
- 58:06Speaker 2: like– I wish I could find– think of an example
- 58:09Speaker 2: where I was like so excited for someone. I was
- 58:11Speaker 2: like this is going to be great. And they were
- 58:14Speaker 2: just like a little off. Right. They weren't feeling my shit.
- 58:18Speaker 1: My last question for you would be in all the
- 58:20Speaker 1: times you've done these interviews and working with reality TV,
- 58:24Speaker 1: who do you think is the most misunderstood person in
- 58:27Speaker 1: reality TV that just keeps getting a bad rap? In
- 58:31Speaker 1: the shows that they're on or, you know, and how
- 58:36Speaker 1: they're represented or representing themselves that when you've interviewed them
- 58:40Speaker 1: or when you know them or maybe from not even
- 58:42Speaker 1: knowing them, but just your feeling on who's the most
- 58:45Speaker 1: misunderstood person in reality TV right now.
- 58:48Speaker 2: I think like two people stand to the top of
- 58:52Speaker 2: my mind. I interviewed Jax Taylor from Vanderpump Rules. You know,
- 58:55Speaker 2: like she is a cheater in the past. Now he's married.
- 58:59Speaker 2: Like he to me. And I have three examples. He,
- 59:03Speaker 2: to me, was so... He understands the game. He was so...
- 59:10Speaker 2: smart and understands how it works. I mean, he's not
- 59:14Speaker 2: on Vanderpump anymore, but he got how the business worked.
- 59:18Speaker 2: I love that. I love breaking the fourth wall. When
- 59:20Speaker 2: I interview, let's not pretend the show is real. Let's
- 59:23Speaker 2: just talk about– so he just got it and understood
- 59:27Speaker 2: how to come back. I mean, what she's trying to do.
- 59:30Speaker 1: Now he's having his own podcast that he's launching this week.
- 59:32Speaker 2: I think it's going to be great.
- 59:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 59:34Speaker 2: So he was phenomenal. And I was like, I thought,
- 59:37Speaker 2: you know, he'd be okay. But he just really understood.
- 59:41Speaker 2: This one's doing this. Wow. And same thing with Brandi Glanville,
- 59:45Speaker 2: who has all this drama now. And, you know, she,
- 59:48Speaker 2: you know, like this thing might have happened with Carolyn Manzo.
- 59:51Speaker 2: She just wasn't, like I thought she'd be a ditz.
- 59:54Speaker 2: And just she really... got it and was really real
- 59:58Speaker 2: and authentic and smart yeah i was like brand i
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: was like it's almost like with brandy especially i was
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: like she's in on the act like look if you
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: know why you're being asked back to certain shows like
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: you do become a caricature of yourself right so you
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: know what the world like people expect her to be
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: the drunk in the room and outspoken so she kind
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: of like It was like a different person almost.
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: So she's in on the joke, so to speak.
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: That's what I thought. I thought she was so smart.
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: And then I've never interviewed him, but I would love to.
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: I think Spencer Pratt is really– because.
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: He is– I get that feeling too, yeah.
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: And he is like– he has ideas and he's a
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: producer and he– I mean, none of this is necessarily
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: taking off, but he understands the business. Yeah.
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: And he's really transparent and says what's going on. He
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: came out– And he's been in the business for a
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: long time.
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: He's been in the business for, like, he would be
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: a great producer of a show. He doesn't even have
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: to be on it. But he came out, too, and
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: tweeted and said, Raquel, talk about Scandival. He's like, girl,
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: whatever you do, don't fucking quit the show. Yeah. Like,
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: he gets it. And rumors, because, I mean, I interviewed
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: people from The Hill's New Beginnings, which came back. Spencer
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: was the one who was like, we, this isn't working.
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: I mean, I love The Hill's New Beginnings when it
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: just came back, like, whatever. Yeah. But it wasn't highly rated.
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: And Spencer was really just trying to get everyone just, like,
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: It didn't work because they were older and they didn't
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: want to stick their hand in the fire anymore. He's like,
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: we have to. Like this is a gift. We could
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: be on TV for the next 10 years, guys. Absolutely.
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: Just do what you got to do. There's money to
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: be made here. And he behind the scenes was trying
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: to make all of that happen, not in a fake way,
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: but just in a like.
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: Yeah, you guys have to be on board. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: So he really understands how it works. Right.
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: And just really quickly, what are your thoughts and predictions
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: for Housewives of New York? The new season.
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: I mean, I am cautiously optimistic, but I'm not jumping
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: up and down. I think like, I mean, is anyone
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: really waiting for that? Is anyone really excited? I think
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: they have to make New York a housewife. Like you
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: have to show, like we're in this great city here.
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: It has to be New York. Like you have to
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: show- benefits and what New York is all about. I
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: think if it's just a bunch of new women having
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: the same drama that's been on all these other franchises forever,
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: I don't think it's going to work. I think people
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: are just going to be like on board. Right. So
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: I think it's like New York, like you can't do
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: that in Salt Lake or maybe Orange County, no offense,
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: but we have New York City here. So like if
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: you think of like Sex and the City and Gossip
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: Girl and like New York was a huge element in
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: these scripted shows, I think you need to really focus
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: on New York and make that part of the show. Great.
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: All right. Well, good feedback.
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: Well, can't wait to see what happens there. Thank you
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: so much. I can't wait to have you back. And
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: I appreciate everything you said.
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: And remember, you were on the Behind the Velvet Rope podcast.
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: So everyone can listen on Apple and Spotify or follow
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: Behind Velvet Rope on Instagram. And we had the great Rachel,
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: you could tell, on our show recently. So everyone could
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: listen to that episode too.
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: That's right. Thank you so much. And we will see
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: you soon.
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: They think you're done for the day, but they don't
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: know about the drawer.
- 1:03:34Speaker 4: The drawer. Just the one square before bed. Or two,
- 1:03:41Speaker 4: you know. Nobody's watching.
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: You deserve a treat.
- 1:03:48Speaker 3: With eight flavours to choose from, you can choose the
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: flavour you favour with Cadbury Dairy Milk.
