So let's start off with four seventy nine, just truly wild to meet

that will never cease to amaze me. So reminder, White Bear's injury is

really starting to catch up with him. The hole in his chest. I

feel like the animation on that has gotten more and more extreme as this arc

has continued. It started off as sort of just like a dent, and

then as it got worse and worse for him, you really began to see

the like hollowness in the middle and like the depth of it, and it

really looked like somebody had just driven up a four inch wide pipe into his

chest. But we see all of the uh, the admiral and the warlords

and whatnot. They are all reacting to the fact that Lufi used hockey,

and one of these guys calls it, which I didn't catch the first time.

He calls it like the power of I can't remember what I'm trying to

find the spot because it's not the power of the ancestors, even though I

am deeply tempted to say it that way. I don't think that is the

wording that is used, but I'm assuming that that is the same thing as

hockey, And there's a sort of like assumption made by Ace, and I

think it's probably being made by the it's the conqueror's spirit, that's what they

call it. But it leads to some of the Marines telling their men to

hold back because we aren't going to to be a match for him now that

we know he can do this, and iv A, who catches up with

Lufy and is like asking him, what the fuck was that? Loofy reacts

in very much like what was what sort of way, and IVA realizes,

Oh my god, I think he doesn't even know what he just did,

which means we can't rely on him to use it as a weapon again because

he just fully doesn't like seem to understand how to use it if he's doing

it by accident. And I really appreciated that I've understood that detail, because

I feel like it could it would be really really easy for in a situation

like this, people to get it mixed up and think that Loufy did all

of that shit on purpose, and they would be real, real disappointed.

I guess when it turned out that he did not know in fact what he

was doing and apparently didn't even notice all of those men collapsing. That's like

the particularly weird part to me. And I'm not even saying that it's unrealistic

because frankly, it is in line with Loofy and the fact that he is

so focused and single minded that he wouldn't be registering what was happening around him

if it didn't have anything to do with his main goal. But nevertheless,

I am just sort of like, you really, really you didn't even see

it, dude, like at all. Okay, and white Beard, for

his part, you know, being surprised that Lufy can even do this.

He's also acknowledging the fact that he is starting to really hit the wall here,

and eventually he hands over I won't say he hands over command to Loufy,

although, so that is I think essentially at the heart of it,

what he is doing. But he basically tells them, like, everybody that's

here with me, if I go down back Loofy up, make sure to

like help him out. And the fact that Lufi has used the conqueror's spirit

as they call it, means that all of these other people are willing to

throw in because they believe that this kid obviously has some real talents they didn't

know about and is going to be a capable leader. And Iva is like,

no, wonder people follow him. And there's a sort of implication in

the way that Iva says this that like, not that Lufi is using his

powers to convince people. It seems more like there's the fact that he has

this ability means that he has such a strong force of personality that he is

able to sort of impress people, like influence them, you know, like

there's no surprise that people are drawn to him. And Iva says, the

apple doesn't fall far from the tree, does it? Dragon, in a

way that implies to me that Iva has like some dealings with Dragon. I

don't get the impression that Iva is judging Loofy by Dragon in a real,

like worrisome way. It feels definitely like they've got some history, though,

And I don't remember if that's ever been mentioned or not. I don't think

it's been mentioned, because like Lufy and who his father is, that is

only very recently more common knowledge, So I think that or wait, no,

doesn't Iva, wait, maybe way way back in the prison. Lufy

So everybody is running. We have all of the marines in the field,

and when white Beard like he sort of seems to punch the air.

It's sort of unclear to me exactly what he does here, but he knocks

all of these marines down. Even I have a and Loofy that are over

like quite far away at this point sort of stop and look like, what

the hell was that? And white Beard just like is mocking these dudes and

He puts it, and he once again does the punch the air routine,

and I just really keep forgetting how much physically larger white Beard is than all

of these marines. Like when we see the camera so to speak, from

behind them and he's towering over them. My immediate reaction to that is like,

that's the trick of angles, that that's not really how big he is,

right that it just looks like he's that big because of what do they

call that, like the line of perception. This is something that I remember

learning in art class, and you would think that I would remember any of

it. But it's basically the trick that they use when filming a lot of

Lord of the Rings in order to make the Hobbits look a lot shorter than

Gandalf, they would just angle the camera in a certain way and it's supposed

to give the impression of somebody being much taller. And I keep sort of

thinking that's what's going on, and having to be reminded with different angles that

like, oh, no, no, no, that's actually his size.

He's genuinely like twice three times in some cases, the size of a regular

dude. And oh, actually the person ESO does show up here, he

was just there and was just like, all right, everybody, let's go,

because white beards like just try it, come on, come on,

who's gonna go? And ESO says, don't let a single marine lay a

hand on him, and they all cheer and they're just like, yep,

we've got your back. Meanwhile, the admirals and whatnot are like telling the

Marines don't be intimidated, and I'm like, I mean, I get that

you have to say that, but also just telling people not to be intimidated

of a man who's three times their size and seems effectively immortal. That doesn't

feel like the greatest way to handle their lack of faith. I really feel

like, probably you've got to add a little reason why they shouldn't be intimidated,

because as it stands at the moment, it really seems like they kind

of should be intimidated. Actually, But anyway, so then we have like

these two I don't know what rank they are, but there's one guy whose

name is Doberman. And then later on we see a dude who is Dalmatian

I think, And I don't know if there are other like dog breed names

that crop up. Of those are the two that caught my attention, and

they're leading men. And of course we have again the like explosion punch basically

of white Beard, like just he uses this a lot, and it seems

to really be taking it out of him. He's like saying, oh,

man, now they're finally starting to pull it together, Like it's it's interesting

to me that the Marines are kind of getting a handle on the situation.

The closer and further in they get. It does make sense, though,

like when you've got the enemy sort of all bottlenecked in one spot. I

think it really logically works that they would be able to control the situation a

little bit better. So Ace again has this moment. As he's watching it,

we have like the flashback to him saying, how am I supposed to

feel like they're all risking their lives? But I want to live? And

the white Beard they tell into like not to push it, and he stops

and he yells, listen to me, there's a new plan. I'm either

going to live or I'm going to die. So backup, straw Hat with

everything you've got, and I just love there's a new plan. Either I'm

going to live or I'm going to die. And I'm like, I feel

like that's sort of the original plan, Like maybe your original plan was going

to be I'm going to live only, and so now you're opening it up

to like there's perhaps the chance that I may die. But it really did

feel to me like, yeah, that's the same plan though, so oh

transfers the backup to Loofy, and of course this shifts a lot of the

attention onto Loofy as well, which I kind of felt like, white Beard,

maybe you should have just held back a little bit so that everybody's attention

didn't immediately go to Loofy and you could let him sort of get in under

the radar. But probably Loofy being under the radar is a foregone conclusion at

this point. So so then we have let's see Doma up against Vice Admiral

Mamonga. So it seems like a lot of these guys are vice admirals.

I don't know how many vice admirals there are, you know, there's like

a real thing. And I don't know how many folks have run into this,

but there's been a few places I've worked where like everybody and their mother

is vice president of some like particular you know what I mean, like department

or something, and it just stops having real meaning because they are handing that

title out so often. And I'm sort of feeling like maybe that's either I

have a misunderstanding about what being a vice admiral is and frankly that's a lot

more likely, or it's not as big a deal as I would have thought.

So Okay, the fucking Dalmatian has to go up against these two dudes

who are like a I think he calls them the Decalvin brothers, but they

have like cat hands, and they each have one eye that's like closed.

I'm assuming that eye is missing, and the jolly rogers on their hats are

two skulls. So I don't know what these guys deal are, but it's

really fun because this like montage then Doberman up against thunder Lord mcguy, who

truly that whole name and this guy's entire look, it is so fucking funny

and loofy. Like we go back to him and all of a sudden,

he's got a whole crowd of people running behind him that he you know,

it seems like he's almost unaware that they're there. Uh, And I would

probably hazard a guess that that's actually literally correct. But they're running up and

Lufy's like just saying, who are you guys over his shoulder, and they're

like, there's no need to worry about that at this point, just like

trust us that we are with white Beard. You need to slip past the

admirals and move in. Uh. And you've got to wait for your opening

and there's this whole so there's a lot of the conversation here as they're running

where Ava says, why don't you stop trying to be coy and rise to

the occasion, you cocky little snot? And I wasn't really sure what Iva

was like implying with Lufy. He Lufy says, I don't care, like

what the hell that old man wants or what he thinks. I only came

here to do one thing, So I don't know what Iva is trying when

he says he's coy. Does Iva think that Lufy is pretending not to know

how to use his powers? Is that what he thinks is going on?

I'm not really clear on what he was asking of Loofy to begin with.

I love that. Eventually we go back to one of the vice admirals,

the guy with the real pointy mustache and the yellow necktie who has like a

single curl that looks very supermanesque. One of the marines says to that dude,

with all due respect, maybe we should change plans, which honestly was

very funny. I don't know why, but that got me, and he

is like, no, we've almost gotten white Beard down, and if we

get him down. That's a wrap on this whole thing. So we're gonna

keep following it through, see it through to the end. White Beard then

does this move where he sort of sends out a tornado of wind. I

guess it's just wind or force, I'm not sure, and he sends all

of these guys flying. They are gathered around him, and it's like,

I don't know how you keep telling these guys not to be intimidated. Literally,

they should be this. This man with a sweep of his arm can

send hundreds of men scattering like chaff in the wind. You know, I

just sir, come on. So we've got an interception of mister One.

I think it is uh and he's he like gets in between Meehawk and Loofy

at one point and saves his ass, and the two of them engage and

it's like nothing. Me Hawk goes down in a split second. I was

really startled at how fast that happened. I thought there was gonna be some

kind of real fight here, and it's just almost pitiful how fast mister One

just drops and Mehawk goes right past him. He's dead set on Loufy and

then Crocodile interrupts. I really do love how uninterested Crocodile seems in general with

this whole fight. He's here and he's participating, but his expression just remains
21:34
so impassive that it feels like he's just sort of finding it all very tedious.

And the fact that he has to like help Loofy, it's just sort

of like, wow, really, this is like this again, I have

to fucking step in again, like get it together, kid, you know

that's the impression I'm getting. And mister One, he stands up and he

just says, maybe prison made me soft, Like he is also startled how

quickly he went down, which I felt kind of bad for him. Over

so Meehawk and Crocodile, h He's just like, all right, look,

if you want to fight it, let's just fucking do it. Let's get

it over with, which I was surprised that Meehawk doesn't just take a swipe

at him the way that he did with mister One. I mean, just

go for it the same way. We have some more encounters in this episode

with uh with Boa. Now Boa, she's like, it's very confusing to

everybody because they're like, well, whose side are you on? But she

is also trying to defend Garp, and so she claims that that is because

he will someday be her grandfather as well if she marries Loofy, which you

know the fact that she's like on Lufy's side but also on garb side.

Nobody understands what the hell is going to happen, and we have I'm trying

to remember the name of this dude with the weird bob haircut and the red

onesie who's he's like saying, what the hell are you doing? You're gonna

lose warlords status? And she says, you foolish, misshapen manchild. You

guys, you foolish misshapen manchild has to be one of the coldest, Like

I am obsessed with that as an insult. Oh my god, it is

so it is so perfect. Like I suppose one could are argue that misshapen

could be seen as like ablest, but that isn't what I believe is the

implication here. It's not like like deformed, It's like you look weird.

I just that line really fucking got me cracking up. She says, I

So eventually when they are trying to like, uh, fire on Loofy,

when she defends Loofy, she claims that it's because they could have hit

Garp and that's why she's actually stepping in, and they continue to sort of

like, I'm really curious about what you guys think of all of this because

I have a bit of confusion around it now. When the episode opens for

this arc, we've gotten a lot of like that map of the bay and

where everybody is situated, and it's very broad strokes, like white Beard,

Loofy, Acen, Sengoku, and Garb. I feel like they're the primary

ones that we see their placement in all of this. And because I only
25:33
know where they are placed and not where each of the vice admirals are,

it's difficult for me to understand how many people Garb or not Garb white Beard

can like send sprawling, or how many men Boa can turn into stone and

that doesn't actually kill almost the army or all the piet you know what I'm

saying, Like it just keeps looking like whatever they have done has affected a

massive crowd, But then other dudes just show up and are there still men

who have been turned into stone cluttering the battlefield? Like we're operating with a

very limited amount of space here, and so when dudes go flying like that,

but then we sort of move to a lot of them like eventually standing

up and coming back, I just keep being like, how many times has

it been this group of dudes that goes flying? How many have they gone
26:44
from turned to stone back to themselves? And now it's just happened to them

yet again. It just feels like the battlefield can't be big enough for all

of them to have the effect that they're having on the size groups that it

looks like they're having that effect on without eventually the Marines being genuinely straight up

wiped out. So I don't know, I feel like I would like to

know a little bit more specifically on the ground where each of the vice admirals

is and just how much of a diameter or what would be circumference their powers

effects around them, because I feel like I see it as a much bigger

effect than it actually is, since there's always seem to be more marines to

replace them. There are a ton of vice admirals since it's the highest rank

you can realistically get since there are only ever three admirals at a time.

have a telling loofy. This was his chance to show what he's got to

some of the strongest people on the planet. Okay, I love that Croc's

main motivation right now is just pure fuck the police spite sent tomorrow, thank

a strange character. I feel like I don't have a good grasp on him

at all, and I'm just sort of like, what are you doing here?

He feels very superfluous to me. I just noticed that Buggy has the

hat that says marine, but he's just crossed it out. Oh my god.

And he is really cranky at the fact that there isn't a transmission happening

of what's going on here, because he feels like he's doing an amazing job,

and he's like, well, I can't believe they're all missing it.

I should be the one they're looking at, and everyone's all focused on the

fucking straw hats, and he says to one of his men, like,

give me the snail, and the snail is frozen, so he's like,

all right, we'll just dunk it in that magma water and it'll melt it

off, and he does. But then when the snail comes back, he's

really wilted and sad looking, And it turns out I had forgotten about how

like a slug and salt like that's literally how you kill a slug, you

guys. I felt so bad for this little snail, I really did.

And eventually Buggy tries to like sweet talk it, but when it opens its

eyes, Loofy and his men surrounding him are so scary looking that he just

retreats into his shell again, which, to be honest, I understand I

couldn't even really be mad at that. I was just sort of like,

no, yeah, that's probably like a smart move actually, But yeah,

this whole thing is I'm hoping gonna lead to the distribution of whatever it is.

The Marines were trying to hide because there's no uh what do you call

it? Because they have turned the transmission off. It's they because they didn't

want the people to see what they were up to, and I'm just really

hoping that maybe Buggy will inadvertently show them all how like what's going on here

for real, and people will begin to turn on the Marines a little bit

because they'll realize, like how low these guys were actually willing to go.

I don't know, we'll see, but all right, so we go back

to Loofy here uh again, dudes are firing cannons and shit at them and

it's like having absolutely no effect. Now I'm gonna tell you guys this,

and I'm gonna be really honest. I think this arc is way too long

at this point. I'm still engaged, I'm still invested, and I am

enjoying seeing all of these players on the board now, these new people.

But I really feel that because we have so many repeat attacks that seem to

do a ton of damage and then everybody's fine and it's over and over and

over and over for weeks of coverage, the actual fight has lost a lot

of meaning. Like I understand about not wanting to kill any main characters.

I understand about needing things to be drawn out for reasons, but this is

reaching a point where it feels like we're not making any progress at all.

The only like signal that we are is Loofy getting closer and closer to Ace,

and that is like, it just feels like all of the other things

are sort of a distraction from that, and it's less and less believable to

me that he is making so little progress with like the number of the amount

of destruction that seems to be getting done. And I really I know that

pacing for this show is an overall issue and that this very well was probably

like dragged out on purpose, you know, But I have reached a point

where I, as a viewer, find myself sort of spacing out because there

is so much action action, action, throwing things, you know, doing

magic, throwing things again, shooting things, magic throwing more things that I

sort of like, what's going on washes over me and I don't catch the

details, and I am having to rewind a lot because and it's not even
33:22
like I'm on my phone or anything. It's that I feel like most of

these episodes, it feels like I saw this episode already, do you know
33:32
what I'm saying. So it's just been a little bit tough coverage wise,

because I feel like I'm trying to eat track of all of these different characters,

whose significance I'm not even sure of, you know, I'm not sure

how much it matters if I remember certain names, and it's felt like mostly

a kind of character pop quiz. But in terms of the plot, the

only like real major developments were finding out who Ace's father was and the relationship

between him and white Beard and why white Beard is here so committed to like

saving Ace and everybody finding out who Lufy's father was, and otherwise it's just

really unnecessary a lot of this. So I'm hoping that because the next episode

is going to be it want to be, that means we're going to have

a change to this routine soon, because it just really they can't keep going

on like this. It's just too much of the same thing over and over

again. And I really believe we're seeing actual repeat animation as well. I'm

I have to assume that's part of the drawing things out, is you have

the fights go on and on and you reuse some of the footage of people

clashing with each other because that would be economically the wise thing to do.

That's my assumption, but because also, like you know, the amount of

times that white Beard sends marines flying, and the animation of that, I

feel like has to be We've seen it like sixty times now, you know.

So when he does this stuff, it fails to hit the way that

it did because there's always just more of them coming, and apparently making them

go flying doesn't actually really accomplish anything, since they just get back up and

come back at him again. At this point, Jimbe comes in and,

you know, gets in between white Beard and some of these marines, and

white Beard is like, I thought I told you to go back up,

moofy, and I really enjoy Jimbae being like, do I look like one

of your fucking men? No? I don't, and I'm not, which

means I don't have to listen to a fucking thing you say. Basically,

he's like, you're not my real dad, and I appreciate that. White

Beard isn't even irritated. He's just like, well, all right then,

like there's an there's a sort of vibe for me of like he just really

actually wanted to be self sacrificing, but once he realizes this guy is gonna
