  I always like to be a couple days behind the news cycle,

  right? Are NASCAR drivers, athletes?

  And we'll discuss this whole electric vehicle situation

  potentially coming to NASCAR or really not, but everybody

  discussing that as well. First of all, Stephen A Smith,

  you may not like him, you may disagree with him, but what he
• 0:30
  does works. He got the whole NASCAR world
• 0:32
  riled up with his comments. I didn't even see exactly what
• 0:36
  he said. I just read everybody else and I
• 0:38
  saw everybody else commenting on Stephen A Smith saying that
• 0:42
  golfers and NASCAR or race car drivers aren't athletes.

  First of all, I totally disagree with them.
• 0:50
  There's also, there's, there's all different kinds of athletes
• 0:53
  right now for me, when I think of an athlete, everybody has
• 0:58
  their own personal definition. I should have looked up in the
• 1:01
  dictionary what exactly being an athlete means.
• 1:04
  But to me it means running, jumping.
• 1:10
  Like when I think of pure athleticism, I think of dudes
• 1:14
  who can run really fast or women, you run fast, you jump
• 1:18
  high. So I'm thinking like sprinters,
• 1:22
  long jumpers, high jumpers now, all these different sports,
• 1:29
  you're all athletes. To me, the best athletes in the
• 1:32
  world are NBA basketball players.
• 1:35
  And I've said this for a long time because not only are they
• 1:38
  really fast, jump really high, very strong, but they're also,
• 1:45
  they're the freaks of nature in the sense that they do all these
• 1:48
  things at 7 feet tall at 7/1, at 6:10, at 6-8, right?
• 1:55
  So you can be a great sprinter. I think Usain Bolts like 6-5.
• 1:58
  But to me, the best athletes in the world are NBA players
• 2:02
  because not only are they super fast, jump super high and all
• 2:05
  that strong, but they're freaking 7 feet tall.

  And you got defensive backs in football, you got wide receivers
• 2:13
  in football. If we go through all the sports,
• 2:16
  you know, hockey's very athletic.
• 2:18
  There's more skill there. You're on skates, you know,
• 2:21
  baseball, you look at some pictures.
• 2:24
  You don't have to be in great shape to be a pitcher.
• 2:26
  There's a lot of athleticism in the outfield, running the bases,
• 2:29
  so on and so forth. But we're here mostly to talk
• 2:31
  about NASCAR. But first, by the way, golf,
• 2:34
  because Stephen A Smith brought up golf.

  I mean, there's also, there's also the mental gymnastics you
• 2:42
  got to do, like think about the pressure in your brain to be a
• 2:46
  golfer, to have a 5-6 foot putt to win a major and all the
• 2:52
  signals your brain sending to your body, to your hands to be
• 2:57
  able to calm that, to not give in to the stress, the pressure
• 3:00
  and all that. And then look, our NASCAR
• 3:04
  drivers, are they out there running?
• 3:07
  I mean, they're running on the track, obviously.
• 3:09
  But here's the thing, like it, it's about to me being an
• 3:13
  athlete is, is using your body for this sport and you're having
• 3:18
  to make split second decisions in NASCAR with your hands with
• 3:24
  in terms of shifting. Like think about this, think
• 3:27
  about the precision you have to have in NASCAR.
• 3:30
  If you're a Kyle Larson and you're trying to just ride the
• 3:33
  wall, RIP the wall. Think about the precision
• 3:38
  between your brain, your your hands and your feet.
• 3:43
  So the brain sending the signals to your feet on the gas pedal
• 3:48
  shifting as you're trying to RIP the wall.
• 3:51
  And you have to hit your marks where whatever that amount is,
• 3:56
  whether it's 1/4 of an inch, an inch between ripping the wall
• 4:01
  perfectly where you're just barely grazing it or just using
• 4:06
  the air there to create the fastest lap possible.

  Just that much difference between the fastest lap possible
• 4:16
  and hitting the wall, spinning out, wrecking yourself, wrecking
• 4:19
  everybody else. So NASCAR drivers, plus you're
• 4:23
  in there, it's super hot. I know you got these cool suits.

  They're breaking down a lot. You see all the pictures of
• 4:29
  drivers, all the video drivers after races.
• 4:33
  You got to Coke 600, right? You're in there forever, 4-5
• 4:37
  hours sometimes with cautions and all that.

  You see them basically sitting on the ground next to their car
• 4:44
  afterwards because they're absolutely just just gone
• 4:48
  exhausted. So but hey, Stephen A Smith, he
• 4:51
  did his job. He had everybody talking about
• 4:54
  him. Of course, NASCAR drivers are
• 4:57
  athletes, but also you don't have, hey, you don't have to be
• 4:59
  in the greatest physical shape. We've seen that.

  We've seen some guys, we've seen some guys with some some bellies
• 5:05
  out there just like we do a baseball, some hitters, some
• 5:09
  relief pitchers. I mean, we know offensive
• 5:12
  lineman, you know, you got to have that, that weight to throw
• 5:15
  people around. So there's also a difference
• 5:17
  between fitness and athleticism. But of course NASCAR drivers are
• 5:22
  athletes. You know what if I wanted to get
• 5:25
  all the views, if I wanted to get all the views, I would say,
• 5:28
  hey, that they're not athletes, right?

  I'd I would agree with Steven A Smith and do the click bait
• 5:32
  thing. But I try to give my honest
• 5:34
  opinion here to all You Beautiful people.

  All right, the other big story of the week, the whole electric
• 5:39
  vehicle situation with the O'Reilly series potentially
• 5:44
  years from now, 2030. And so the whole industry goes
• 5:48
  nuts over this also. And then you hear that look,
• 5:52
  it's not it's not really about electric vehicles in terms of
• 5:55
  the motors, the engines, it's the body style in terms of that
• 5:59
  kind of sport utility vehicle that that EV body, which which I
• 6:04
  personally don't like. I'm kind of old school when it
• 6:07
  comes to SU VS. I'm from Toledo, OH so I love
• 6:12
  Jeeps, but I love, I love Jeep Grand Cherokees.

  I had two Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredos so I'm trying to support
• 6:19
  Toledo where I'm from right now. I got a Chevy Silverado so I'm
• 6:25
  not AEV guy. I'm not really against it.

  Like I know my wife's talked about maybe getting getting an
• 6:32
  electric vehicle for her next vehicle.

  We like to take my big truck on all our Rd. trips and all that.

  So I'm not anti EV like probably a lot of NASCAR people are.

  I think in a way it's inevitable.

  But I also understand, I understand why NASCAR fans in

  the industry, look, if you're looking at the whole green
• 6:51
  movement, if you're looking at E VS in general, you're going to
• 6:56
  take that as a direct target on on your livelihood, which is
• 7:02
  Motorsports right now with the combustible engine.

  So I totally understand why the NASCAR industry is against it.

  It doesn't seem like it's going to happen anytime soon.

  By the way, I don't even really like those sporty little EV
• 7:16
  utility vehicle body styles. I have to say, I think I don't
• 7:21
  want to come come across as sexist, but I feel like those
• 7:23
  type of vehicles are kind of more for women.

  And I know women like NASCAR, but the majority of the fan base
• 7:30
  is male. And I can show you that based on
• 7:32
  our metrics on YouTube, it's like 90%, at least based on
• 7:36
  YouTube videos. I'm not saying NASCAR fans as a
• 7:39
  whole, I don't really love that body style, but it doesn't make
• 7:42
  sense to the manufacturers. If moving forward, you're
• 7:45
  selling a ton of trucks, a ton of SU VS and then you know your
• 7:49
  typical sedan type car, it does make sense to have a series
• 7:55
  running the the SU VS look, you should also, this is where I I

  agree with Dale Junior. You shouldn't mess with the

  O'Reilly series right now just because it's trending up so
• 8:06
  much. It's the best pure racing in the
• 8:07
  sport in terms of the car, not the drivers, but it's the best
• 8:11
  pure racing. The TV numbers are up.

  You got The CW, you have a great broadcast team, the ratings
• 8:17
  every week. It seems like The CW is doing
• 8:19
  better the last year plus now. So I don't think you should mess
• 8:23
  with the O'Reilly series. But also I think there's an
• 8:26
  inevitability to this. I think it's going to happen
• 8:28
  eventually. Now, it might be 30 years from
• 8:30
  now. I just looked up what EV sales

  are in the US and it said something like 6-6 and a half,
• 8:36
  7% of new vehicles. You know, this is monthly.

  Now, if that number gets to be 30% and this could be 15 years

  from now, I mean, should NASCAR have an electric vehicle series?

  I think they should, should be one of the top three series.

  Not right now. Now, will that happen 25 years

  from now? I wouldn't rule that out.

  To me, if you're going to bring if you're going to bring

  electric into into NASCAR in any way on these weekends, you got

  to do it as a support series to start, right?

  I mean, you have these ARCA weekends.

  I don't want them to replace ARCA.

  I don't want to replace O'reilly's, but maybe there's

  these weekends where you don't have an ARCA race and people

  like more racing now. Maybe people hate it, but I'm

  saying like you got to start it. If you're going to start NASCAR

  doing anything electric, it's got to be a support series where

  you run it on a Saturday or you run it early on a Sunday as

  people are kind of are. Are people kind of filling in as

  something to watch, right, like part of part of the race

  weekend, get people to kind of feel it out, see if they like it

  at all, see if they hate it, you know, maybe people will just

  hate it forever. Maybe people say, hey, it's not

  that bad. And again, I, I do think, look,

  I, I don't love it, but it's, it's like AI, it's here, it's

  coming, it's only coming more so it's like you can bitch about

  it, you can complain about it or in a way you can embrace it, use

  it as a tool, whether it's AI or or NASCAR.
