- 0:01Speaker 1: First Lady Melania Trump has brokered a ceasefire in one
- 0:05Speaker 1: of the towns on the front lines of Ukraine, where
- 0:07Speaker 1: residents there are in urgent need of medical care, food
- 0:11Speaker 1: and clean water. In a White House press release, she said, quote,
- 0:14Speaker 1: It was abundantly clear that without my intervention, the possibility
- 0:18Speaker 1: to bring humanitarian aid into the city and to evacuate
- 0:21Speaker 1: the elderly would be impossible. President Trump praising the first
- 0:26Speaker 1: lady's humanitarian efforts.
- 0:29Speaker 2: I think she's done a great job. I mean, she's into.
- 0:32Speaker 3: Saving babies and bringing babies back home to their parents.
- 0:35Speaker 1: And she's been able to do something that's great.
- 0:38Speaker 3: She's been working very hard on it.
- 0:40Speaker 1: She wants to see babies come back to their families.
- 0:43Speaker 1: And that's between Russia and Ukraine.
- 0:46Speaker 2: And they worked a ceasefire.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Joining us now, Mark Beckman, senior advisor to First Lady
- 0:52Speaker 1: Melania Trump. Mark, it's so great to have you. You've
- 0:55Speaker 1: worked closely with the First Lady on just remarkable— I' ve never
- 1:00Speaker 1: in my lifetime seen a First Lady with such an
- 1:04Speaker 1: impactful effort when it comes to not only, in this case,
- 1:08Speaker 1: in Oleschke, this issue, Kursan province, town on the front lines,
- 1:12Speaker 1: it's trapped. The elderly can't get aid in and they
- 1:15Speaker 1: can't get out. But also even going back to last summer,
- 1:18Speaker 1: August of 2025, when she brokered, started back-channeling with Putin
- 1:22Speaker 1: to release Ukrainian children. How have you been able to
- 1:25Speaker 1: accomplish this and how.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Does she do it? Well, it's an incredible moment in time.
- 1:28Speaker 3: We have to look as Americans at our first lady
- 1:31Speaker 3: with immense pride. She is completely revamping the role of
- 1:36Speaker 3: first lady from somebody building policy awareness— into action-oriented.
- 1:41Speaker 2: She's saving lives.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Yesterday, she brokered— single- handedly brokered a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine
- 1:50Speaker 3: within the area of Oleshki. And a little bit after that,
- 1:53Speaker 3: the Russian military came out, because of the First Lady's efforts,
- 1:56Speaker 3: and announced that they're going to expand the ceasefire two
- 2:00Speaker 3: days longer and within a broader region in Kherson. So
- 2:04Speaker 3: it's an incredible moment. Our first lady has put together
- 2:07Speaker 3: the first ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia.
- 2:10Speaker 2: That will save a city, as you mentioned, elderly people.
- 2:14Speaker 3: It's the first sign towards real everlasting peace within this
- 2:17Speaker 3: war-torn region.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Mark, we've never had a first lady that could back
- 2:21Speaker 1: channel and deal with people like one of our greatest.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Adversaries, Putin. Correct. This is right. But what she's done
- 2:28Speaker 2: is incredible.
- 2:29Speaker 3: She was smart enough to realize that by leveraging the relationships,
- 2:32Speaker 3: the strong relationships that she fostered over six unique moments
- 2:37Speaker 3: in time for the reunification of Ukrainian and Russian children.
- 2:41Speaker 3: Thirty-four children have been reunified because of the efforts of
- 2:44Speaker 3: Our First Lady. By leveraging those relationships, she was able
- 2:47Speaker 3: to bring everybody to the table and negotiate this ceasefire.
- 2:51Speaker 3: She first learned about it, in fact, during the United
- 2:54Speaker 3: Nations General Assembly, her event, Fostering the Future Together, where
- 2:58Speaker 3: she has 60 nations as members of this unified mission
- 3:03Speaker 3: to empower children in education and technology.
- 3:08Speaker 1: And her efforts in the case of Oleschke, she's raised
- 3:12Speaker 1: the pope's attention on this issue. Tell me about that.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it's really interesting.
- 3:16Speaker 3: So, the first lady was brought in as intermediary through
- 3:19Speaker 3: written state documents by both President Putin and President Zelensky,
- 3:24Speaker 3: Ukraine and Russia, going back, like I said, over a
- 3:26Speaker 3: month ago. And she started the work, and she's been
- 3:29Speaker 3: negotiating all the way through. But as a result of
- 3:32Speaker 3: her participation, I guess she caught the attention of the pope,
- 3:35Speaker 3: which is great.
- 3:36Speaker 2: And a few days ago, he stepped.
- 3:38Speaker 3: In and supported her efforts as well, which is, you know,
- 3:41Speaker 3: very nice. But ultimately, it was the first lady that
- 3:44Speaker 3: initiated the process, managed the entire negotiation.
- 3:48Speaker 2: And then yesterday, it was.
- 3:49Speaker 3: An amazing moment, Griff, where America, Russia and Ukraine all
- 3:54Speaker 3: together— America through video, all three of us were together
- 3:58Speaker 3: signing these contracts.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Mark, you said the word that really grabbed me there,
- 4:03Speaker 1: and that is she initiated the process. As her close advisor,
- 4:07Speaker 1: what has it been like? Take us behind the scenes
- 4:10Speaker 1: to be with a first lady that looks at a problem,
- 4:12Speaker 1: such a tremendous problem, like the war in Ukraine. like
- 4:15Speaker 1: the Ukrainian children, says, I'm going to do something about it, Mark.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Let's do this.
- 4:19Speaker 3: MARK SHIELDS The first lady constantly puts children and women
- 4:23Speaker 3: and now the elderly above political ideology, above war, geopolitics, geography, background, race, religion.
- 4:32Speaker 3: She knows that, as people, it's our mission, and we
- 4:35Speaker 3: should all come together in a moral, obligatory way to
- 4:38Speaker 3: put children, women, and the elderly above these differences that
- 4:43Speaker 3: we have. She spoke about it when she addressed the
- 4:46Speaker 3: United Nations Security Council. She speaks about it regularly, and
- 4:49Speaker 3: she did it in this instance, too.
- 4:51Speaker 1: I've only got a few seconds left, but what's next
- 4:53Speaker 1: for the mission?
- 4:54Speaker 2: Well, you're going to see some fun things happening.
- 4:56Speaker 3: With Fostering the Future, we have 26 schools from coast
- 4:59Speaker 3: to coast that have One hundred foster care kids, American
- 5:03Speaker 3: foster care kids in college today. And in a couple
- 5:07Speaker 3: of weeks, you're going to see big things happening, groundbreaking
- 5:10Speaker 3: again within the NCAA community.
- 5:13Speaker 1: We'll bring it to us here. We will give it
- 5:15Speaker 1: attention because it is a remarkable this first lady. Melania
- 5:17Speaker 1: Trump has certainly made her mark in history with you
- 5:20Speaker 1: by her side. Mark Beckman, thank you very much.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Thank you so much. Great to have you. Thank you.
