- 0:05Speaker 1: All right, it's day three of March Madness, and today.
- 0:10Speaker 2: The locals are off.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Saint John's is off. They did have a nice blowout
- 0:13Speaker 1: win yesterday, but that's tomorrow. I want to make a
- 0:18Speaker 1: bold thought here, what of number nine TCU takes out Duke.
- 0:23Speaker 3: That's my prediction, but.
- 0:25Speaker 2: We'll see what happens.
- 0:26Speaker 1: I want to continue right now the conversation with Lutermanilo
- 0:31Speaker 1: and Ryan Pagano on Terminelo's take, recorded on March nineteenth,
- 0:37Speaker 1: the very first day of the Round of sixty four.
- 0:40Speaker 1: You know about the hard word, and I'm thinking about
- 0:42Speaker 1: the classic hardwood in the Boston Garden because to switch topics.
- 0:45Speaker 4: Real quick, Yeah, the parque floor, Yeah, the park floor.
- 0:48Speaker 4: And I'm like, Jason Tatum's back now.
- 0:50Speaker 1: I Watchwitch Gears for a second, ten months out and
- 0:53Speaker 1: he looks like he's back, like playing regular season for him?
- 0:56Speaker 1: What a recovery is? This technology is a science? Like
- 0:58Speaker 1: how did he get the healthy so fast?
- 1:01Speaker 2: I guess doctor Martin McNally, excuse me, Martin O'Malley. Doctor
- 1:05Speaker 2: Martin O'Malley at Hospitals with Special Surgery did his surgery.
- 1:09Speaker 2: He did the same surgery that they did on Aaron Rodgers.
- 1:13Speaker 2: That speeds up recovery, and apparently I guess that that
- 1:19Speaker 2: helps speed up.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Recovery, like you got like a triple double I think,
- 1:21Speaker 1: or something like that in his first couple of games
- 1:23Speaker 1: in I'm.
- 1:23Speaker 5: Like this, that really looks like he came back with
- 1:26Speaker 5: the bang and really having the mob of mentality, especially
- 1:28Speaker 5: because he talks a lot about the lay great Kobe Bryant.
- 1:32Speaker 5: And I mean Kobe he tore his achilles, I believe
- 1:35Speaker 5: in very late in the twelve thirteen season. I believe
- 1:37Speaker 5: it only took him like eight months or something like
- 1:39Speaker 5: that to come back to the court afterwards.
- 1:40Speaker 4: So I mean, he's really having that mob of mentality
- 1:43Speaker 4: in more ways than one.
- 1:44Speaker 5: But I also to just to break apart from the
- 1:48Speaker 5: Kobe talk, it really also goes to show just how
- 1:51Speaker 5: advanced sports medicine has become. Now you know, Saint Tatum
- 1:55Speaker 5: returned to the court after all this time, and I
- 1:58Speaker 5: mean no disrespect to Tyre's Halliburn, of course, but you
- 2:00Speaker 5: see him Taror's achilles and Game seven of the finals,
- 2:03Speaker 5: and you know, you know, I have my own thoughts
- 2:05Speaker 5: about him ending the next season last year, but.
- 2:09Speaker 4: The way he made that shot was so unbelievable. How that.
- 2:11Speaker 5: But then the fact that he's sitting out the entire
- 2:14Speaker 5: he can't even come back for the entire twenty five
- 2:16Speaker 5: twenty six season. Not that the Pacers are really in
- 2:18Speaker 5: a great spot themselves, but till the fact he's not
- 2:20Speaker 5: even playing regular season ball. I mean, that's just my final.
- 2:26Speaker 1: My friend went to the Pacers game the other night.
- 2:28Speaker 1: She's a huge Knick fan. She went out to the game.
- 2:31Speaker 3: I helped play and pay for it. I hope somebody
- 2:34Speaker 3: gave her the tickets.
- 2:35Speaker 1: She She's like, yeah, well, no she got invited. But
- 2:37Speaker 1: she's like, the didn't even play Brunson. And I'm like,
- 2:40Speaker 1: I get it. I get I get to I get
- 2:44Speaker 1: Indiana stinks this year, right, and I get their lower team.
- 2:47Speaker 1: But if I'm the Knicks, I want to get my
- 2:49Speaker 1: frustration out on that team for what they did to
- 2:51Speaker 1: us last year.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Yeah, but none of those guy, none of those guys.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Who were playing the other night were or part of
- 2:57Speaker 2: the Pacers beating them last year. Most of those guys
- 3:01Speaker 2: all the key guys, you know.
- 3:05Speaker 1: And by the way, we might have a game changer
- 3:07Speaker 1: as much march Man as college ball right now. The
- 3:10Speaker 1: focus is what did the Pistons do k Cunningham out
- 3:14Speaker 1: extended period of time with a collapse lung guy. That
- 3:18Speaker 1: might change the dynamic of the Eastern Conference, right, no.
- 3:22Speaker 4: Doubt about it.
- 3:23Speaker 3: I mean we talked about it a couple of weeks ago.
- 3:27Speaker 2: I'm not sure about the Pistons even before the injury
- 3:31Speaker 2: today because they don't have a second scoring option. Now
- 3:35Speaker 2: without Cunningham, they don't have a first scoring option. And
- 3:39Speaker 2: they're still an experience. Remember two years ago they were
- 3:42Speaker 2: fourteen and sixty eight. So this is not like a
- 3:45Speaker 2: jugger not this.
- 3:46Speaker 4: Is still They gave the Nicks a bit of a
- 3:48Speaker 4: challenge last year.
- 3:48Speaker 3: But if they didn't, oh they did.
- 3:51Speaker 1: If the Knicks didn't win that series, Thibodeau would have
- 3:53Speaker 1: been fired regardless, I think.
- 3:54Speaker 3: But anyway, they again, they had chances to win that year.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Recon of course, there's that call at.
- 3:59Speaker 4: The end of here we go, Well there was that.
- 4:01Speaker 2: I mean, they blew that call.
- 4:03Speaker 3: I mean, it was, let's face it, but uh uh.
- 4:10Speaker 2: And I'm not saying that the Pistons would have won
- 4:12Speaker 2: that series, but they had a chance. They would have
- 4:14Speaker 2: been up three to two, you know, they were you know,
- 4:16Speaker 2: but what that's that's ward are under the bridge.
- 4:18Speaker 3: But I don't think the Pistons.
- 4:20Speaker 2: If the Pistons were playing the Knicks in a player series,
- 4:24Speaker 2: even at full strength, I'm favoring the.
- 4:26Speaker 4: Knicks, But how do they beat him like four times?
- 4:29Speaker 4: I think it was this year at Yeah, the regular
- 4:31Speaker 4: season too.
- 4:31Speaker 5: I mean the way that guys those regular season matchups
- 4:34Speaker 5: went and lou that had me convinced that the Pistons
- 4:38Speaker 5: were going to the finals if they could take down
- 4:40Speaker 5: a finals favorite like the Knicks.
- 4:42Speaker 6: The Knicks in nineteen In nineteen ninety three, ninety four,
- 4:49Speaker 6: we played the Knicks in the first round of playoffs
- 4:51Speaker 6: during the regular season.
- 4:53Speaker 2: We beat we whipped their ass four out of five.
- 4:56Speaker 2: We lost, We lost the best of five series. It
- 4:59Speaker 2: was still best of five the first round. We lost
- 5:01Speaker 2: three games to one, the knixt one to the finals.
- 5:04Speaker 2: We went home.
- 5:07Speaker 4: And race in.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Twenty twenty five, twenty six, with the unwatchable product that
- 5:12Speaker 2: the NBA is putting out there, look at what the
- 5:17Speaker 2: Nets put out last night, the players they put out
- 5:20Speaker 2: last night, and they haven't putting out what Sacramento has
- 5:24Speaker 2: been putting out. You can go right down the line.
- 5:27Speaker 4: Even you cannot Indiana Indiana.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Well, and I'll get to Indiana in the second.
- 5:33Speaker 2: This bad year is is really beneficial to them because
- 5:36Speaker 2: they're gonna get Halliburton back next year, and they're gonna
- 5:39Speaker 2: get a pick in the top six or seven.
- 5:41Speaker 3: They might even get they might even have.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Carlos Boozer or Basanta Byu on their team.
- 5:48Speaker 3: I mean, so that a horrible year.
- 5:51Speaker 2: But they go from the seventh game last year to
- 5:53Speaker 2: a horrible year, they might get the first or second pick,
- 5:56Speaker 2: and then next year they'll be an Eastern Conference contender again.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Remember they're coached by a great coach. Also, Carlisle is
- 6:03Speaker 2: a great coach.
- 6:05Speaker 5: Yeah, all the championship pedigree, yeah, I mean what he's
- 6:09Speaker 5: been able to make out of what's yeah, you know,
- 6:13Speaker 5: I mean that that stuff does not.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Go unnoticed, no, no doubt about it.
- 6:17Speaker 2: But the NBA, my god, these ten teams that you know,
- 6:22Speaker 2: you got eight or ten teams that.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Are taking and then you have these games and triple digits.
- 6:25Speaker 1: It's like every game they're scoring over one hundred.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Now, well here I made a note, where where the
- 6:30Speaker 2: heck is it? Uh? Your use of uh norrick of
- 6:37Speaker 2: the of the starting center for the for the uh
- 6:40Speaker 2: Utah Jazz. H he has some kind of nose issue
- 6:45Speaker 2: that he was going to have taken care of with
- 6:47Speaker 2: surgery at the end of the year when the season
- 6:50Speaker 2: was over. But you want to know something that Jazz
- 6:52Speaker 2: who have been fined by the NBA for sitting guys.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Have been called out publicly.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Right so Norwich, So which's out for the rest of
- 7:00Speaker 2: the season, he's gonna miss he missed. It'll be the
- 7:03Speaker 2: last two months of the year because they're gonna do
- 7:06Speaker 2: the no surgery.
- 7:07Speaker 4: Now you know why.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Because he has a lot of things going on during
- 7:12Speaker 3: the summer. Are you kidding me?
- 7:15Speaker 2: What if he got going on vacation even though he's
- 7:19Speaker 2: getting married. That's the state of the end. This is
- 7:22Speaker 2: not the NBA I was.
- 7:22Speaker 3: In for twenty eight years, guys, I'm telling you. And
- 7:27Speaker 3: you know they talk about expansion.
- 7:29Speaker 4: Yeah, Vegas.
- 7:31Speaker 3: They gotta fix what's what's going on in the NBA.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Now before they expand, right, I mean, if they expand,
- 7:37Speaker 2: and if you believe that the expansion fee is going
- 7:41Speaker 2: to be eight billion dollars per team, we'll just say, well,
- 7:46Speaker 2: each the Knicks and the Nets are going.
- 7:48Speaker 3: To get five hundred and thirty three plus.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Million in expansion fees, and you don't have to share
- 7:57Speaker 2: it with the players.
- 7:58Speaker 3: It doesn't go to revenue, revenue right to the owners.
- 8:04Speaker 2: I think I got when I joined the Next to
- 8:06Speaker 2: nineteen eighty one, the team, the franchise was worth six million.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Now the Francis is probably worth eight billion.
- 8:15Speaker 4: Wild, unreal, that is wild.
- 8:17Speaker 3: But the NBA's got to fix this mess.
- 8:19Speaker 2: I'm gonna be honest with you, guys.
- 8:20Speaker 1: So it looks like the tanking option, the tanking fins
- 8:23Speaker 1: aren't working, right, there's still.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Well again, yes, let's go.
- 8:28Speaker 2: Let's go throughout the If you go down and look
- 8:31Speaker 2: at the draft every year, look at the top five
- 8:34Speaker 2: and teams that tank, it doesn't work most of the time. Yes,
- 8:38Speaker 2: Dallas got Lucky Cooper, flag is gonna be is gonna
- 8:42Speaker 2: be sensational. You got guys like that, But you know
- 8:46Speaker 2: you got I mean, next drafted third one year is RJ.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Barrett a difference maker.
- 8:53Speaker 4: He's a good player, good player.
- 8:55Speaker 5: But as far as the number one option, I hate
- 8:58Speaker 5: to say it, but that's a no. Yeah, not even
- 9:01Speaker 5: I mean it's even a debatable second option to on
- 9:04Speaker 5: a title contender.
- 9:04Speaker 1: I want to ask you about this because I keep
- 9:06Speaker 1: seeing his name pop up a lot, and look the
- 9:10Speaker 1: James situation. Where he goes after this year, no one knows,
- 9:12Speaker 1: but Luca Doggets continues to make the headlines every night.
- 9:15Speaker 4: It seems like it is the r m VP for
- 9:17Speaker 4: the year or what.
- 9:19Speaker 2: The NBA n VP will probably be SGA.
- 9:25Speaker 4: Yeah, what he's been able to continue to do with
- 9:30Speaker 4: the Thunder.
- 9:30Speaker 1: And they will like a double a repeat, you know,
- 9:33Speaker 1: possibility here.
- 9:34Speaker 2: So but getting back to our original point, like five
- 9:38Speaker 2: minutes ago, anything that you see in a regular season
- 9:42Speaker 2: of the NBA, just toss it to the side.
- 9:45Speaker 3: It's going to be totally different when the playoffs began.
- 9:48Speaker 2: We don't even know until maybe midway through the first
- 9:51Speaker 2: round how it's going to play out a little bit. Yes, obviously,
- 9:55Speaker 2: okay See is young, athletic, healthy, They play the best
- 10:00Speaker 2: fence in the league, they have the m v P,
- 10:03Speaker 2: they have the best situational players, so they're gonna be favored.
- 10:08Speaker 1: But well, look here in Europe were all happy the
- 10:09Speaker 1: heart and scene won a chip with with okay See,
- 10:12Speaker 1: and he's still on that team right.
- 10:14Speaker 4: So yeah, he's still with the Thunder. I mean doing
- 10:16Speaker 4: as well as ever, so no, I mean, it's it
- 10:19Speaker 4: is kind of fun to watch him now.
- 10:22Speaker 1: I don't want to talk about the baseball side of things,
- 10:24Speaker 1: and I don't want talk about the World Baseball Classic
- 10:25Speaker 1: like it just all right.
- 10:27Speaker 2: I had some notes for the World Baseball Classic, but
- 10:29Speaker 2: I want to get to the big your show, so
- 10:31Speaker 2: you could.
- 10:32Speaker 1: I want to get to the bigger point, which seems
- 10:34Speaker 1: to be buried under this WBC loss, and everybody seems
- 10:36Speaker 1: to be either mourning about, blaming Judge about, or you.
- 10:39Speaker 3: Know, it was it wasn't.
- 10:41Speaker 2: It wasn't a good night for Aaron Judge considering his
- 10:45Speaker 2: postseason issues in the past. It wasn't a good night
- 10:48Speaker 2: for Mark de Rosa. It wasn't a good night for
- 10:51Speaker 2: the Major League Baseball teams that called up, uh, the
- 10:56Speaker 2: USA Baseball and said, don't the Yankees say Bednar unavailable
- 11:01Speaker 2: or the Padres say you could only use Mason Miller
- 11:04Speaker 2: in a safe situation because Benn should have been in
- 11:07Speaker 2: there in the seventh or eighth inning, and Mason Miller
- 11:10Speaker 2: should have been in there in the ninth.
- 11:11Speaker 5: You should have I mean, that was also the same
- 11:13Speaker 5: thing too with the Venezuela and Omer Lopez and their
- 11:16Speaker 5: manager also getting calls to from some of the major
- 11:19Speaker 5: league teams being like, hey, don't use our guys.
- 11:21Speaker 4: Don't use our guys.
- 11:22Speaker 5: See, I get not wanting to have your guys be
- 11:27Speaker 5: injured in what could otherwise be a meaningless tournament. I
- 11:31Speaker 5: mean I experienced that first hand with the DA stuff,
- 11:34Speaker 5: all right, and the met season was ruined the second.
- 11:36Speaker 3: No, there's no doubt about that. That that yeah, Alex
- 11:40Speaker 3: knows how how I was ticked off with that.
- 11:42Speaker 2: It's the gimmick tournament. I mean, can you imagine the
- 11:45Speaker 2: Edmonton Oilers calling up Team Canada and saying, don't play
- 11:50Speaker 2: h Connor McDavid, you know in the City finals.
- 11:54Speaker 3: Can you imagine that?
- 11:55Speaker 2: Or the Devil's calling up Team USA and saying don't
- 11:59Speaker 2: play Jackie was.
- 12:00Speaker 4: Yeah, that would have been ridiculous.
- 12:02Speaker 1: But I'm glad you brought up hockey because we gotta
- 12:06Speaker 1: wrap up in a couple of minutes.
- 12:07Speaker 4: Yep. But under all this.
- 12:10Speaker 1: WBC stuff, uh USA sled hockey and I was the
- 12:14Speaker 1: one beating drum to them because I felt no one
- 12:15Speaker 1: else was wins.
- 12:17Speaker 4: Gold against who CA?
- 12:20Speaker 3: Yeah no, yeah, it's uh not been a good stretch.
- 12:26Speaker 4: And we took their sport, Louis, that's what we did well.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Yeah, five five years in a row, five Olympics in
- 12:34Speaker 3: a row.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Excuse me that the kid Wallace who had that hat
- 12:37Speaker 2: trick or with the score, I don't know if he
- 12:40Speaker 2: got if they credit him with that fourth goal, that
- 12:42Speaker 2: shorthanded goal. The kid who scored the empty net goal.
- 12:48Speaker 2: I mean, I cannot believe from the set of that
- 12:50Speaker 2: face off on in sweat hockey, how he tearass guys,
- 12:56Speaker 2: I can't run that fast.
- 12:59Speaker 1: That was on NBC because you know, I hate to
- 13:00Speaker 1: say it, but adaptive sports, people with disabilities are not
- 13:04Speaker 1: always on the front page like that. So I was
- 13:05Speaker 1: glad it was on NBC. But I want to ask
- 13:08Speaker 1: you about this because you're both able bodied. If you well,
- 13:11Speaker 1: if you could, would you try slid hockey? It is
- 13:13Speaker 1: a fun sport. I tried it once when I was low,
- 13:15Speaker 1: but it never really panned out.
- 13:17Speaker 4: So would you ever try it? No, I definitely would,
- 13:19Speaker 4: for sure I.
- 13:21Speaker 3: Would if I was your rage for Ryan's age.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Look, I'm always down to try new things like the
- 13:28Speaker 1: adaptive sports. And then my buddy Patrick Halgren's meddling for
- 13:32Speaker 1: the first time in the Paralympics for for Team USA
- 13:35Speaker 1: in an event. I mean, it was special to watch.
- 13:38Speaker 1: And the fact I know Patrick personally. I was texting
- 13:40Speaker 1: with him. Everyone who goals like this is unreal. I'm like,
- 13:43Speaker 1: well that's great.
- 13:44Speaker 2: Well that's the other thing. I'm watching a downhill skiing
- 13:48Speaker 2: I said, my god, these guys are these guys not
- 13:52Speaker 2: they're not only amazing athletes, but they're so courageous.
- 13:57Speaker 4: Mm hmm.
- 13:59Speaker 1: It's well, but you know, that's funny you mention that,
- 14:01Speaker 1: because I always feel like people with disabilities compete just
- 14:03Speaker 1: to compete. They don't even think about the look at
- 14:06Speaker 1: look at us type of thing. It's very like they
- 14:09Speaker 1: don't think of it. As I always say, in wheelchair basketball,
- 14:14Speaker 1: everybody's in all that they put the ball in the
- 14:16Speaker 1: hoop because like, oh my god, a guy the Wilter. Meanwhile,
- 14:18Speaker 1: they're like, all right, well now let's win. You know,
- 14:21Speaker 1: they don't just stop putting in the hoop in a myriad,
- 14:22Speaker 1: they just keep playing.
- 14:23Speaker 4: You know that. It's it's a different mindset, I guess.
- 14:25Speaker 1: But that's why I love covering adaptive sports because and
- 14:29Speaker 1: they need the coverage be they're just built We're built differently.
- 14:33Speaker 4: As athletes.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Well, and see, I always say, if you're disabled, I
- 14:39Speaker 1: think having a competitive spirit helps you have one leg
- 14:41Speaker 1: up on life.
- 14:42Speaker 4: I really do, because if you're it helps.
- 14:47Speaker 3: I totally agree.
- 14:49Speaker 1: But yeah, no, they beat Canada three times in a
- 14:51Speaker 1: row in the Olympics in court, in that same arena.
- 14:54Speaker 4: I love it. I love what all three teams are on.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Now. The question is can we get them down in
- 14:58Speaker 1: the canadon of heroes. I want all three teams having
- 15:00Speaker 1: a parade in New York this summer.
- 15:02Speaker 2: I would love that, you.
- 15:03Speaker 3: Know that that that would be That would be great. Yeah,
- 15:06Speaker 3: I love that.
- 15:06Speaker 2: You know, maybe I'd come back to one eleven Broadway
- 15:08Speaker 2: for a day and uh stand in front.
- 15:11Speaker 4: Well maybe maybe maybe I was trying to convince Donie.
- 15:14Speaker 4: I don't know. But anyway, before.
- 15:18Speaker 2: We go, can I say, can I say one thing?
- 15:20Speaker 4: Yeah? Definitely we didn't.
- 15:23Speaker 2: Uh we didn't do uh a podcast last week. But
- 15:28Speaker 2: Matt Snell of the New York Jets, he died at
- 15:30Speaker 2: eighty four years old. You guys probably don't know who
- 15:32Speaker 2: he is. He was the starting one of the starting
- 15:35Speaker 2: running backs along with Mson Boozer on the Super Bowl team.
- 15:38Speaker 2: He was a great Jet Jet at all time, Jays
- 15:42Speaker 2: in the Ring of Honor and uh Joe name it
- 15:45Speaker 2: said he should have been the m v P the
- 15:48Speaker 2: Jets in in UH scouting that the Colts on tape
- 15:53Speaker 2: saw that that the right side of the of the
- 15:55Speaker 2: of the Colts defensive line was weak and act they
- 16:00Speaker 2: attacked it and Snell had one hundred and twenty four
- 16:03Speaker 2: one yards on thirty carries. He's scored basically the first
- 16:08Speaker 2: time in the AFL team took a lead in the
- 16:10Speaker 2: Super Bowl on a four yard run. He helped kill
- 16:14Speaker 2: the clock. He was a great Jet held he was.
- 16:17Speaker 2: He was the classic running back.
- 16:20Speaker 4: Uh.
- 16:20Speaker 3: He can block, he can catch, and he can run.
- 16:24Speaker 2: So I just wanted to give him a shout out.
- 16:27Speaker 2: He deserves it. He you know, he died and.
- 16:30Speaker 1: I know you're a huge Jet fan, so I'm sure
- 16:32Speaker 1: this lost impacted you because you were you saw it.
- 16:35Speaker 3: I saw it.
- 16:36Speaker 2: I saw it as another thing that was impactful for
- 16:38Speaker 2: the Jets that they built their franchise and brand. The
- 16:41Speaker 2: Jets drafted number one out of Ohio State, I think
- 16:44Speaker 2: third overall. The Giants also drafted them in the third round.
- 16:49Speaker 2: And for him to pick the Jets over the Giants
- 16:52Speaker 2: at that time, it was only the fifty year of
- 16:53Speaker 2: the Jets. History was significant in them building their franchise
- 16:57Speaker 2: and building their brand. And the next day they drafted
- 16:59Speaker 2: Joe Name It's one, and you know then Boozer, George
- 17:02Speaker 2: Soward Junior, you know the guys. But Max Noell was
- 17:06Speaker 2: a great Jet. He was a classic complete football player.
- 17:09Speaker 2: Just wanted to give him a little you know, he's
- 17:11Speaker 2: been forgotten. I want to give him a little recognition.
- 17:14Speaker 1: You know, we missed last week, so I'm glad you
- 17:15Speaker 1: were able to talk about him.
- 17:17Speaker 4: I mean, were your family Jet fans or Giant fans
- 17:20Speaker 4: growing up?
- 17:21Speaker 5: Well, I mean on my dad's side, he was definitely
- 17:23Speaker 5: a Jet fan, born through and through. Now, as far
- 17:27Speaker 5: as my mom's side is concerned, I mean, she always
- 17:31Speaker 5: grew up a forty nine Ers fan, being that her
- 17:33Speaker 5: maiden initials were SF and she was a big Steve
- 17:36Speaker 5: Young feedback, so it all makes sense. But then her father,
- 17:41Speaker 5: my grandfather, and it's funny because he would always flip
- 17:45Speaker 5: back and forth between the Giants.
- 17:48Speaker 4: And the Jets.
- 17:48Speaker 5: He was one of those New York fans where he
- 17:51Speaker 5: would have set allegiances to the Giants if they were good.
- 17:54Speaker 5: He would have set allegiances to the Jets if they
- 17:56Speaker 5: were good, but he would always switch it up. And
- 18:00Speaker 5: especially given the chaotic turmoil that was the eighties Jets
- 18:04Speaker 5: with the New York Stock Exchange, that kind of falling
- 18:06Speaker 5: apart in the late eighties, and I mean, don't even
- 18:10Speaker 5: get me started on those years in the mid nineties
- 18:13Speaker 5: as well. I mean, it just made it fairly easy
- 18:15Speaker 5: for him to pick the Giants at all that even then,
- 18:18Speaker 5: I still wear his Giants hat from time to time
- 18:21Speaker 5: to actually were when I met a man Bradshaw with
- 18:24Speaker 5: this guy and.
- 18:26Speaker 1: It's funny you say, well, it's interesting you talk about
- 18:28Speaker 1: the running back position for the Jets, because in my view,
- 18:32Speaker 1: it's always been who's gonna be the next jour name
- 18:33Speaker 1: of the Giant. The Jets have always had that shadow.
- 18:36Speaker 1: Who's ever the quarterback has to be donated. They have
- 18:39Speaker 1: to do that what he did in.
- 18:40Speaker 5: Exactly because I mean, nobody else's coming remotely close to that,
- 18:44Speaker 5: apart from maybe Chad Pennington. And I mean, even then,
- 18:48Speaker 5: injuries just completely ruined his potential.
- 18:51Speaker 2: If Chad Pennington didn't have the back to back shoulder
- 18:55Speaker 2: separation shoulder injuries, he would have been the second best
- 18:58Speaker 2: Jet quarterback, no question.
- 19:00Speaker 1: But like now, you look at the running back position
- 19:03Speaker 1: in Matt Snow and Curtis Martin. I mean, growing up,
- 19:06Speaker 1: I saw Curtis. I mean, the Jet running back position
- 19:10Speaker 1: has been actually pretty prestigious over the years. And now
- 19:13Speaker 1: bree McNeil and I was about for a time. But
- 19:16Speaker 1: I only guys can hear the conversation with Breeze Hall though,
- 19:20Speaker 1: what do they do with him?
- 19:21Speaker 4: Right?
- 19:21Speaker 1: So they sign him, they franchise tag him, They're gonna
- 19:24Speaker 1: keep them, right, They're not gonna trade them.
- 19:25Speaker 4: What do you think they're gonna do.
- 19:26Speaker 2: I think that he'll probably get a three or four
- 19:30Speaker 2: year deal, probably by July fifteenth by training camp.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Luck he stays because he's I've always thought he's a
- 19:38Speaker 1: centerpiece they can build around.
- 19:39Speaker 2: You know. The only thing is, and you know I'm
- 19:42Speaker 2: not big on drafting running backs in the top five
- 19:44Speaker 2: or anything like that.
- 19:46Speaker 7: Jeremias buddy, Jeremiah Line is so good that I you
- 19:52Speaker 7: they might be tempted, like say at sixteen, if by
- 19:55Speaker 7: some chance he's still there, which I doubt, or say
- 19:58Speaker 7: at twelve, then maybe they'll trade.
- 20:00Speaker 2: They'll take a couple of those second round picks, and
- 20:03Speaker 2: if they because this kid, this kid is so good.
- 20:07Speaker 2: I'm telling you guys, I I wouldn't be surprised if
- 20:12Speaker 2: the Giants pick him at five.
- 20:14Speaker 1: All Right, well we end we started. We're talking about
- 20:16Speaker 1: March Madness. I want to end with March Madness.
- 20:20Speaker 4: We don't usually get your.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Prediction movie, but who do you have? I mean, it
- 20:23Speaker 1: feels like you're thinking Duke Michigan as well. Could be
- 20:25Speaker 1: the tournament final at least or what.
- 20:28Speaker 2: You know, everybody who's saying Arizona, Arizona, Arizona. You know what.
- 20:33Speaker 2: One of these years teams that are always knocking on
- 20:37Speaker 2: the door, knocked through the door, knock the door down.
- 20:41Speaker 3: That could be Houston. They one of these things.
- 20:45Speaker 4: They didn't last year too, so they could do it again.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Yeah, so it could be used to knocking the door down.
- 20:51Speaker 2: I liked Iowa State for a while.
- 20:53Speaker 3: I'm just not sure they have the depth to go there.
- 20:56Speaker 1: But and for our New Jersey front or New Jersey fans,
- 21:00Speaker 1: by the way, I want to ask you this, what's
- 21:03Speaker 1: Seaton Hall of his future? I mean, it was a
- 21:05Speaker 1: it was an interesting tournament.
- 21:06Speaker 4: Last week.
- 21:07Speaker 1: They got bounced by Saint John's. But were they expected
- 21:09Speaker 1: to make it to Friday? I feel like that wasn't
- 21:11Speaker 1: achievement in of.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Itself, you know, I think, I mean, I think they
- 21:14Speaker 2: had a very positive year obviously. Uh.
- 21:19Speaker 3: The big thing is is is are teams going other
- 21:22Speaker 3: schools going.
- 21:23Speaker 2: To uh go after Sheen? I I don't know, so, uh,
- 21:33Speaker 2: you know, so we'll so we'll see. But that a
- 21:35Speaker 2: successful year. Can they keep these guys? Can they keep
- 21:38Speaker 2: but Clark and people like that? So we'll see.
- 21:44Speaker 5: Yeah, really just got to see what happens uh with
- 21:46Speaker 5: the Pirates as far as that's concerned now, Alex. Obviously
- 21:49Speaker 5: it's a step out for just a second here, but
- 21:51Speaker 5: I mean it really just as a you know, wait,
- 21:54Speaker 5: I wait and see kind of thing.
- 21:55Speaker 4: Now.
- 21:55Speaker 5: Granted I don't really follow the Pirates as much as
- 21:59Speaker 5: say the two of you, but I mean it's definitely
- 22:02Speaker 5: a big four in the road for the program.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Yeah. No, remember they went from from winning seven games
- 22:07Speaker 2: last year to winning twenty one games last year. It's
- 22:10Speaker 2: it's a success. It was a widely successful season for them.
- 22:14Speaker 2: It really was, uh they you know, and they the
- 22:17Speaker 2: thing that killed them as far as being on the bubble.
- 22:19Speaker 2: They were one seven against Saint John's, Yukon and Villanova.
- 22:24Speaker 2: And that's why they were off the bubble. That's you know,
- 22:29Speaker 2: that's that's the deal.
- 22:30Speaker 1: So but Terminilla's take, We'll be watching an high year
- 22:35Speaker 1: in HQ. The one Lego Alex Media ro PEG's perspective,
- 22:39Speaker 1: HQ March Madness this year. I'm always around this time,
- 22:43Speaker 1: but one last I know, right, but for you for
- 22:46Speaker 1: Washington's all these years, any memories you have of the
- 22:48Speaker 1: first couple of days, I mean it feels like a
- 22:51Speaker 1: day where anything can happen?
- 22:52Speaker 4: Is it the boat the first two days?
- 22:54Speaker 2: Well, remember about twenty five years ago, Gonzaga was was
- 22:59Speaker 2: the one that pulled off all these upsets.
- 23:01Speaker 3: They were the ones that was Cinderella. They're no longer Cinderella.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Their basketball power. Then you have when Valparaizo beat Mississippi.
- 23:11Speaker 2: I mean, we can go right down the line, you know,
- 23:14Speaker 2: you really could. But Saint Peter's and most recently Saint
- 23:18Speaker 2: Peter's and Phirly Dickinson coming fairly to getson in my
- 23:22Speaker 2: alma Mata. I grew up in Hudson County. I was
- 23:24Speaker 2: born in Jersey City. To see Saint Peter's get to
- 23:27Speaker 2: the to one game short of playing in the final
- 23:30Speaker 2: four is something that well, we won't see again, all right.
- 23:34Speaker 4: I just saw Ryan's lock Street about the Islanders. You
- 23:36Speaker 4: know what's funny about.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Lou Right, I think it was the same night they
- 23:40Speaker 1: lost to the Veners when they're like, well, at least
- 23:42Speaker 1: the Islanders on a big win.
- 23:43Speaker 4: So exactly. I mean, there is that the team in
- 23:47Speaker 4: the playoffs this year in the Tria.
- 23:49Speaker 2: I hope they get in.
- 23:50Speaker 3: I hope the Islanders get in.
- 23:52Speaker 2: They're on the right path. Matthew Schaeffer in person is
- 23:58Speaker 2: even more impressive than when you watch him on television.
- 24:02Speaker 2: He played twenty nine I went last week. He played
- 24:04Speaker 2: twenty nine minutes in seventeen seconds. I mean, it's like
- 24:07Speaker 2: play half the game. He's so good he I mean
- 24:13Speaker 2: he really it's it's unbelievable. I just I hope that
- 24:17Speaker 2: they get in. I don't I know they're not gonna
- 24:19Speaker 2: win the Stanley Cup. I just want him to get in,
- 24:21Speaker 2: and especially with his first.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Year was Shaefer, that would be unbelievable and probably one
- 24:26Speaker 1: of the last years for anders Lee, right, I mean.
- 24:28Speaker 5: As he is on expiring deal right now, nobody knows
- 24:30Speaker 5: what's gonna happen with him as far as twenty six,
- 24:33Speaker 5: twenty seven in the future is concerned. I mean, he's
- 24:36Speaker 5: always somebody you think could be a lifelong Islander.
- 24:39Speaker 4: But and that's all up in the air. And speaking
- 24:41Speaker 4: of last year's we got to cover the sport, we
- 24:43Speaker 4: go my buddy.
- 24:46Speaker 1: And I'm sure you know him well too, And you've
- 24:47Speaker 1: heard him on the radio. How he rose saying this
- 24:50Speaker 1: is last season. I mean, we knew it was gonna
- 24:53Speaker 1: be happening soon. I thought he'd given another couple of years,
- 24:55Speaker 1: but this is it. Well, I saw you send me
- 24:58Speaker 1: that that post this morning. I couldn't when I was out,
- 25:02Speaker 1: I couldn't open up on my phone. So that's what
- 25:05Speaker 1: he announced, that that that this is last year.
- 25:07Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, so he's the other.
- 25:09Speaker 3: Day an awful announcing. He said that he said that
- 25:14Speaker 3: he'll know when it's time to go.
- 25:16Speaker 2: But it may it sound like he was going to
- 25:17Speaker 2: be around for a couple of a couple more years
- 25:19Speaker 2: and he's having major health problems. And it's a shame
- 25:23Speaker 2: because he is a great baseball announcer. He is, he's
- 25:30Speaker 2: a great baseball announcer.
- 25:32Speaker 4: That's a loss.
- 25:34Speaker 5: And I mean You're not gonna be able to replace
- 25:37Speaker 5: how He in that radio. I mean, there's no question
- 25:40Speaker 5: about that. There's no replacing how We I mean, really
- 25:42Speaker 5: the next best thing you could do, at least if
- 25:45Speaker 5: you're the Mets, you know, you just try to recreate
- 25:49Speaker 5: him to some extent. But you know, even then, and
- 25:53Speaker 5: you know, Keith Rad Pat McCarthy, and that's gonna be
- 25:55Speaker 5: the future booth duo moving forward. I'm sure they're gonna
- 25:58Speaker 5: do well there, but you know, they definitely they Thank.
- 26:02Speaker 1: God he made that trip to Milwaukee, right, I mean
- 26:04Speaker 1: to call that Alonso Homer was just one of the moments.
- 26:07Speaker 2: And as we said on his podcast, on a scale
- 26:11Speaker 2: of one to ten, it was an eleven. It was
- 26:13Speaker 2: an absolutely everybody who wants to be a play by
- 26:15Speaker 2: play broadcaster for baseball should listen to that call.
- 26:20Speaker 4: That was perfect. That's how you do it.
- 26:22Speaker 1: And you know how much of what Midpactor was. They
- 26:24Speaker 1: listened to it on the plane ride back. I mean
- 26:26Speaker 1: they kept playing it over and over in the plane
- 26:28Speaker 1: ride back.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, Now yeah, how he's great, I mean,
- 26:33Speaker 2: is as a.
- 26:34Speaker 4: Hall of Famer.
- 26:36Speaker 2: I mean you can link him back to the great
- 26:38Speaker 2: announcement and this is again before your time.
- 26:41Speaker 3: Uh, you know Lindsay Nelson, Ralph Kiner and Bob Murphy.
- 26:44Speaker 3: He's that he's in that.
- 26:45Speaker 1: ILK and he went from Queens College to do that
- 26:48Speaker 1: New York Sports phone or something like that sports and
- 26:52Speaker 1: then he went on to be you know, Major League
- 26:55Speaker 1: Baseball and HL I mean, and there's a fellow of
- 26:58Speaker 1: love of Queen's College.
- 26:59Speaker 4: It's a special map that tie with him too. So
- 27:02Speaker 4: and you know my story.
- 27:03Speaker 1: I've interviewed him, I know. But also I tell you
- 27:06Speaker 1: I think I told you this too. I was in
- 27:09Speaker 1: covering it for an event a couple of years ago for.
- 27:12Speaker 4: One of the media.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Outlets here, the Queen's Cauzette, covered a game and how
- 27:17Speaker 1: he spent a good twenty minutes with me before first pitch,
- 27:20Speaker 1: shooting the breeze. And I'm like, he is a down
- 27:22Speaker 1: to earth guy, like he wants everybody around him to
- 27:26Speaker 1: grow and checks in on people.
- 27:27Speaker 4: You know. So I really appreciate that about him.
- 27:29Speaker 2: So, my guys, one of my best friends worked for
- 27:33Speaker 2: the Islands for the last year and a half of
- 27:35Speaker 2: his of his sports career, and he said how he
- 27:39Speaker 2: was such a good guy.
- 27:42Speaker 4: Well, you know when he did that.
- 27:43Speaker 1: When he ended the Islander run, I was kind of sad,
- 27:45Speaker 1: but I'm kind of like, Okay, well, I hope he
- 27:46Speaker 1: keeps the Mets gig for a while.
- 27:47Speaker 4: I think he quit the Islander so we could do
- 27:49Speaker 4: the Mets gig.
- 27:50Speaker 2: Folks, Well, he quit the Islanders after he started having
- 27:55Speaker 2: those bladder is the cancer, the cancer bladder issues, you
- 28:00Speaker 2: can't go on. I mean, I think the Mets had
- 28:02Speaker 2: to make an emergency landing. I think in Detroit when
- 28:06Speaker 2: he was you know, when he first got this attack
- 28:08Speaker 2: or something like that.
- 28:09Speaker 4: Yeah, you recall hearing about that.
- 28:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, just hopefully that he's healthy. He'll be missed.
- 28:17Speaker 2: Let's enjoy him this year. Let's hope the Mets, you know,
- 28:21Speaker 2: have a good year.
- 28:22Speaker 3: I have no idea.
- 28:23Speaker 2: I know we have to wrap up, but I have
- 28:25Speaker 2: no idea what kind of season the Mets are going
- 28:26Speaker 2: to have. I can't tell at this point.
- 28:28Speaker 4: Yeah, who knows.
- 28:28Speaker 5: But you know, I'll just go back to what how
- 28:31Speaker 5: he was saying during his video announcing that the twenty
- 28:35Speaker 5: twenty six season would be his last, and he specifically
- 28:38Speaker 5: ended it with the hope that come the fall, come
- 28:43Speaker 5: October November, that he could be the MC announcing the
- 28:49Speaker 5: world champion Mets on the steps of City Hall.
- 28:51Speaker 4: So if there's one message that all Mets fans are going.
- 28:55Speaker 5: To be getting behind for the twenty twenty six season,
- 28:58Speaker 5: let's win it for Howie Baby, Let's win for Ali.
- 29:01Speaker 2: Alonso should still be on the Mets. But that's a
- 29:03Speaker 2: whole nother story. I'm sorry, I I don't I don't
- 29:07Speaker 2: agree with David Stearns on that one.
- 29:09Speaker 1: Oh that was it was a messault Well, can I
- 29:12Speaker 1: tell you? And I'm watching Clark Kellogg at the halftime show.
- 29:15Speaker 1: Of course, I pulled them on the radio with US
- 29:17Speaker 1: back at nine seventy with Ted serranus Over.
- 29:19Speaker 2: I remember I actually was in the hospital visiting my my,
- 29:24Speaker 2: my late mom, and I was listening and I said, wow,
- 29:27Speaker 2: Cluck Kellogg between between halves, very impressive.
- 29:32Speaker 1: And then well I also have Vin Paresy on to
- 29:34Speaker 1: break the Mullen news during that one of those years.
- 29:37Speaker 4: So that was really quite a time. I remember that.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Yeah, a lot of mark We had a lot of
- 29:42Speaker 1: March madness around here too.
- 29:43Speaker 4: We did, most certainly, we definitely did.
- 29:45Speaker 1: I played Ryan the call of a Popkin of a
- 29:49Speaker 1: Gary Cohen with the Gibbs against in the biggest tournament.
- 29:53Speaker 4: I mean that call. I'll never forget that. We are
- 29:55Speaker 4: from a room over two times.
- 29:57Speaker 3: That was our first year.
- 29:59Speaker 1: Yeah, we've had a lot of moments. Hopefully gonna back
- 30:03Speaker 1: on radio. Who knows one day, right.
- 30:05Speaker 3: Louis absolutely never never say never.
- 30:07Speaker 2: That's not gonna happen again.
- 30:08Speaker 4: Keep right. Terminalo's take. Always a pleasure having you on
- 30:11Speaker 4: the air with us.
- 30:13Speaker 2: I love being out with you guys.
- 30:14Speaker 4: One leg Up alex Media, PAGs perspective.
- 30:17Speaker 1: You can listen to Ryan's bracket breakdown, right, you posted
- 30:20Speaker 1: that earlier today.
- 30:20Speaker 5: So yeah, it just went up right before the first
- 30:23Speaker 5: game of March man Is between TCU and Ohio.
- 30:26Speaker 4: Had to be had to get those bracket predictions out there,
- 30:29Speaker 4: one wear or another.
- 30:30Speaker 1: Well, we'll see what happens today in day three. I
- 30:33Speaker 1: was really impressed with the Johnny yesterday. I mean, they
- 30:36Speaker 1: could make a big run at this and look, they're
- 30:39Speaker 1: in the East region.
- 30:40Speaker 2: So if they advanced to the Elite eight, one look up.
- 30:43Speaker 2: Alex Media.
- 30:44Speaker 1: Gonna try and get down to DC for that. But
- 30:47Speaker 1: for now, that was Terminalo's take with Pagged Perspective. One
- 30:51Speaker 1: leg Up alex Media. Later Today I'll pay homage to
- 30:55Speaker 1: CBS News Radios one hundred year run after it's been
- 30:59Speaker 1: announced there just banding CBS News Radio. Stay tuned here
- 31:03Speaker 1: at one leg Up alex Media
