- 0:15SPEAKER_03: But what I'm gonna do today is the founder human.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: Hello and welcome to the Overclock Remix Podcast, the best source for OC Remix news and music that you can listen to while carrying an aperture science weighted companion cube.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: This is episode number nine, which is the same as the number of the Mega Man that Capcom decided to just go back to old school.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: My name is Zach, and I didn't beat Sonic 3 until I played it on the Sonic Jam collection for Sega Saturn.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: One of the things I love about doing this podcast is the sheer variety of video game music I get to enjoy every month.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: This month's remixes cover songs from 1987 all the way up through 2024, with a pretty uniform distribution of years yet in between.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: We've also got games I've never played and games I've put hundreds of hours into.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: And the genres.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: This month we're touching everything from heartfelt and sweet acoustic talents to mildly demented theme park ride songs.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, who am I kidding?
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: Completely demented theme park ride songs.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: But before we can get to that, we have a couple of business items.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Our intro music is time with Pretty Old Days from Animal Crossing by Kozu Yon.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: Now it's time for the news.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: The album covers the music of the Mana or Saken and Sexu series in the style of a film score.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: You might know Sam from his incredible Skies of Arcadia remix Shining Silver or his equally incredible Zelda remix, Timeless Journey, both of which are pretty similar symphonic cinematic style.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: If any of that appeals to you, go check out his mana project.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: In terms of album news, we've covered the weight on the Star Fox album project before, led by Dark Flame.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: It's been submitted and should be coming soon.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: That's not all.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: Garyo's Luffy 2 album is done.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: Done done.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: Not only has it been submitted, but the last couple of to-do items post-submission have also been done.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: Now we're just waiting for the website, trailer, etc.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: This is exciting stuff.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: It'll be the first album released since I started the podcast.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Our news music this month was Crystal Potion from Mega Man 3 by Kozuyan.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: That's it for the news.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: Now let's listen to some new stuff.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: Dark Jin is lucky I like Smithy's theme so much.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: There's also some Dr.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: Mario thrown in there for variety.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: That's fun.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: Very solid hard proc rock take on one of my favorite off themes of all time.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: I absolutely adore the music of Mario RPG.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: The original material in the guitar solos and the synth solos is great.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: And there's this great section towards the middle of the track where the accompaniment just like starts going nuts.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: This track has an interesting history.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: While this is Dark Jinn's first remix, the remix is a decade old at this point.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: It was originally intended for this absolutely wild-sounding Mario RPG slash Dr.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: Mario mashup combo album.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: But while that would have been great, it's unfortunately well and truly dead.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: At least we get this one track out of it.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: Next up is the imminent arrival of the Byroids by Timaeus 222 and featuring Expert Novice.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: Saver for Halloween, guys.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: I'd be more interested in learning how the original track is used in the game.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: As is, it definitely sounds more like a horror movie track than it does anything from a video game.
- 11:31SPEAKER_00: As for crediting, professional voice actor expert novice provided the creepy voice, and then everything else was Timaeus 222.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: Up next is Solid Center from East One, Ancient East Vanished by Who Am I?
- 11:46SPEAKER_00: And Fatal Aurora.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: Or is it Fatal Aurora?
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: Hmm.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: Fat or Fate.
- 16:35SPEAKER_00: E Says Is has a very nostalgic soundtrack.
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: It's a Falcom Sound Team classic.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: But then the happy hardcore style of this track is something I really have a strong OCR association with.
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: This just takes me right back to the early 2000s.
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: I would have burned this onto so many CDs, just like I did with Jivemaster's Blobby Blob Disco.
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: Seems like Hemophiliac agrees with me.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: Also calling this out as an early OCR callback track in the mix post.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: Up next, Chimzilla and Trait engage in a glorious exercise of freedom from Helldivers 2.
- 17:15SPEAKER_07: Attention, citizens of Super Earth, for your safety and the preservation of democracy, all individuals are involuntarily encouraged to remain indoors during this glorious exercise of freedom.
- 17:28SPEAKER_07: Remember, staying inside is your right, your privilege, and your patriotic duty.
- 17:35unknown: Rest assured, the ongoing bombardment is bringing peace and prosperity to the free citizens of Super Earth.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: Electronica track, and this one also has that 2000s feel.
- 22:04SPEAKER_00: The overall style and the vocals remind me of Chimpzilla's Portal 2 track Reconstructing Lemons.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: Gee, I wonder why a Chimpzilla track would remind me of a Chimpzilla track.
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: And speaking of remixers, I should mention that the original track was composed by our very own Busta Twins.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: Up next is Falling in Love Under That Sky, which is sort of from Super Smash Bros.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: Brawl, but also sort of from Pikmin and sort of from Neither.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: I'll explain.
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: Well, you guys know me as that super cool prog metal slash prog rock guy.
- 28:23SPEAKER_00: I also have a pretty big place in my heart for folk songs, ballads, anything that evokes a sort of acoustic Americana.
- 28:31SPEAKER_00: Let's just say your host has bought tickets for more than one Decemberist concert.
- 28:37SPEAKER_00: This track is also interesting because it's sort of not a video game track.
- 28:42SPEAKER_00: Uh the source tune is actually from the Japanese TV commercial for Pikmin.
- 28:49SPEAKER_00: It's called I No Uta, which is Japanese for Song of Love.
- 28:53SPEAKER_00: It eventually made its way into American ears with the release of Super Smash Bros.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: Brawl, hence the crediting for this song.
- 29:02SPEAKER_00: And speaking of the crediting for this song, we've got Eminator doing arrangement, piano, the programmed instruments, sound design, and mixing.
- 29:11SPEAKER_00: McLean Grace did the lead and harmony vocals.
- 29:14SPEAKER_00: Zach Parrish played six-string acoustic guitar, electric guitar, electric bass, and mastered the track.
- 29:21SPEAKER_00: Pixels and Paradiddles provided 12-string acoustic guitar, drums, and other percussion.
- 29:28SPEAKER_00: Shea's violin is branching out, having provided not only violin, but also mandolin, one of my favorite instruments, and the butt of the orchestra, the viola.
- 29:39SPEAKER_00: Gamer of the Winds played alto flute, chromatic apparatus played cello.
- 29:44SPEAKER_00: Finally, Theophany provided some backing vocals.
- 29:47SPEAKER_00: Up next is Dragonborn Symphony Movement 2 by Supremo Musico 400 from the Elder Scrolls 5, Skyrim.
- 38:50SPEAKER_00: I assumed the quote-unquote symphony part of the title was just a fun way of calling out that it was an orchestrated piece instead of like a rock or electronica remix.
- 39:00SPEAKER_00: Well, now that Supremo Musico 400 has released this gigantic 9-minute second movement, I am in fact starting to wonder if they are actually composing a full symphony.
- 39:12SPEAKER_00: I really hope they are.
- 39:14SPEAKER_00: 9 minutes is a bit brief for a movement in a symphony, but it's not unheard of.
- 39:20SPEAKER_00: I listen to more classical music than the average bear, and while I am far, far away from being an expert, I will weigh in a little bit on the stylistic qualities.
- 39:30SPEAKER_00: It opens with a very straightforward Skyrim instrumentation with a harp lead and a choir and but then it settles into something a little more harmonic and densely textured, and it stays there for the majority of the runtime.
- 39:45SPEAKER_00: It's a bit filmic, and it reminds me a little bit of Finnish composer Sibelius.
- 39:51SPEAKER_00: Maybe.
- 39:52SPEAKER_00: It starts to come to a head again around the six and a half minute mark, and it brings back in those more recognizable Skyrim motifs.
- 40:01SPEAKER_00: Truly great stuff, I really hope we're gonna get a movement three.
- 40:05SPEAKER_00: Now on to Mo Urgan, who has some despair down at the docks for us from Super Mario 64.
- 40:13SPEAKER_00: Wait, that doesn't sound good.
- 40:16SPEAKER_00: What if I don't want any despair?
- 46:46SPEAKER_00: Putting this in a minor key really brings that melancholy feel from the original track to the max.
- 46:52SPEAKER_00: Well, at least at first it does, because you see, this is a threefer.
- 46:57SPEAKER_00: This is a three-movement track.
- 47:00SPEAKER_00: The track progresses through three different movements, starting with this sort of not quite solo piano section with a bit of ambiance, before moving to a more electronic slash EDM take on the material.
- 47:13SPEAKER_00: We also get a bit of the lovely Piranha Plant's lullaby to mix things up in the second bridge, and then all of that just gets chucked out the window to do some heavy metal guitar shredding.
- 47:25SPEAKER_00: Moorgan specifically calls out Trivium's Embers to Inferno as an inspiration for this section, and I'm starting to think I need to check that album out.
- 47:35SPEAKER_00: Okay, folks, keep your hands and arms inside the ride at all times.
- 47:39SPEAKER_00: General Grunt and Company are proud to present Kremlin's Stupid Happy Boat Ride, complete ride through mix from Donkey Kong Country Two.
- 49:37SPEAKER_07: I think it's a must do it.
- 51:01SPEAKER_00: And let's talk a little bit about the general.
- 51:04SPEAKER_00: Dictator, crocodile, and puppeteer extraordinaire, creator of the YouTube channel slash theme park slash country, TransFactsylvania.
- 51:15SPEAKER_00: I don't know how you usually consume OC remixes.
- 51:18SPEAKER_00: Wait.
- 51:19SPEAKER_00: Yes I do.
- 51:20SPEAKER_00: If you're hearing this, this is how you consume OC remixes.
- 51:25SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 51:26SPEAKER_00: Oh god.
- 51:27SPEAKER_00: Oh, I'm so sorry.
- 51:30SPEAKER_00: Anyway, I highly recommend you go and re-consume this OC remix by watching the official music video via the official OC Remix YouTube channel.
- 51:41SPEAKER_00: Two words, Dancing K-Rule.
- 51:45SPEAKER_00: This is just a delight, and it is the most rareware thing I've heard since the rare replay collection on Xbox One, which is pretty much the only Xbox One game worth playing.
- 51:59SPEAKER_00: General Grunt notes that the song was basically, What if Kremland had its own It's a Small World?
- 52:06SPEAKER_00: And also, What if that ride took you through all the locations in Donkey Kong Country 2?
- 52:12SPEAKER_00: Let's do some crediting.
- 52:14SPEAKER_00: First of all, the marvelous General Grunt did the arrangement and wrote the lyrics.
- 52:18SPEAKER_00: On vocals, we have Numa Joe, Michelle Dryben, Dylan Williams Vandervaal, and Angry Polar Bear.
- 52:26SPEAKER_00: David Lolland played trumpet, and Shea's violin played violin.
- 52:30SPEAKER_00: Viola this time, however, was played by Nemo Fairlight.
- 52:34SPEAKER_00: Ian Martin played the accordion, and Deluxe Dolomite did the percussion.
- 52:39SPEAKER_00: Pixels and Paradiddles played guitar, did some additional instrument programming, and mixed the track.
- 52:46SPEAKER_00: Time for a segment.
- 54:13SPEAKER_05: Don't look in the last beater on the ground, look right, speed us down, look back, but no, gotta go faster.
- 54:26SPEAKER_05: You can't tell them I'm there.
- 55:07SPEAKER_05: Don't work in the last feeder on the ground, beat us down, go fast.
- 55:16SPEAKER_06: But no, yeah, gotta go faster.
- 56:21SPEAKER_05: So we can last.
- 56:30SPEAKER_06: But gotta go faster.
- 56:36SPEAKER_00: This is another busy month for your host here.
- 56:38SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna be traveling a bit at the end of the month, and I don't have time to write, record, and edit a long segment like I usually do.
- 56:46SPEAKER_00: So we're gonna have Lazy Days Livin' in Paradise, Volume 2.
- 56:51SPEAKER_00: I'm going to play you five more tracks from my personal collection of five-star OCR tunes for you to enjoy uninterrupted.
- 56:59SPEAKER_00: We started with Gotta Go Faster by Tubers McGee from the Sonic CD remix album Temporal Duality.
- 57:06SPEAKER_00: Here's five more, and I'll catch you on the flip side.
- 1:14:27SPEAKER_00: All right, I hope you enjoyed that music, and let's talk about who made it for you.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_00: The first track was Me and Mario Down by the Schoolyard by Jeffrey Tosser and FF Music DJ.
- 1:14:40SPEAKER_00: After that was Love Everlasting by DDR Kirby ISQ from Katamare Damashi.
- 1:14:48SPEAKER_00: After that was Watermelon Flavor by Joshua Morse and Pozu Yan from Breath of Fire 3.
- 1:14:57SPEAKER_00: After that was Mummy Dance by Maze Dude from Kirby Superstar.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_00: Finally, we had Windshear by A Rival.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_00: That's A underscore Rival from Mega Man 2.
- 1:15:39SPEAKER_00: And that's it for the month of July 2025.
- 1:15:43SPEAKER_00: I hope everyone is having a good summer so far and continues to do so.
- 1:15:47SPEAKER_00: Or, if you're in the Southern Hemisphere, I hope you're having a great winter.
- 1:15:50SPEAKER_00: Stay warm.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_00: If you want to tell me about it, I urge you to join the Overclocked Remix Forums or Discord channel.

- 1:16:02SPEAKER_00: If you for some reason heard all of this and thought, I want to give that guy money.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_00: Well that's nuts, but I'm honored.

- 1:16:36SPEAKER_00: Our interstitial music this week was River of Sinewaves from Final Fantasy VI by Pozu Yan.
- 1:16:42SPEAKER_00: As always, our outro music has been See You Next Time, Water by Dark Sword from Final Fantasy V.
- 1:16:50SPEAKER_00: And also, as always, we are going to close things out by picking one of the six random tracks on the OCR main page, rolling a die, and letting fate decide what the music is.
- 1:17:01SPEAKER_00: Here it goes.
- 1:17:02SPEAKER_00: Alright.
- 1:17:03SPEAKER_00: Scrolling down to remix roulette, and we've got six.
- 1:17:09SPEAKER_00: That is Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars, Bobblehead Inspiration by Nets.
