More than 40 Haredi draft dodgers detained at Ben Gurion airport
Some 50 Chabad Hassidim were detained upon their arrival from New York on Tuesday morning on suspicion of draft evasion.
The Hassidim had returned from a year of studying abroad in New York's Chabad Headquarters.
The IDF, which had advance notice of their arrival, confiscated the passports of several youths and transferred the detainees on buses to the Tel Hashomer military base.
They are being offered a deal of a shortened military service and a suspended sentence. If they refuse, they will face possible prison terms.
