- 0:00Speaker 1: And now move the sticks with Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks.
- 0:07Speaker 1: What's up DJ Bucky here as we look at one
- 0:11Speaker 1: of the biggest games from the weekend, which was the
- 0:13Speaker 1: Raiders going on the road and getting after the Kansas
- 0:17Speaker 1: City Chiefs, which there's a lot to get to on
- 0:19Speaker 1: the Raiders side of things. We want to give them
- 0:21Speaker 1: their love and we will do that in a little bit,
- 0:23Speaker 1: but I want to start first of all, Buck, get
- 0:25Speaker 1: your opinion. I watched it live, then watch the tape
- 0:28Speaker 1: this morning. Just your opinion on Chiefs offense and what
- 0:33Speaker 1: the heck is wrong.
- 0:34Speaker 2: With this group.
- 0:36Speaker 3: I think the Chiefs overall are pressing on offense. I
- 0:40Speaker 3: think the biggest thing that the Chiefs are dealing with
- 0:43Speaker 3: is they're competing with the former versions of themselves, meaning
- 0:46Speaker 3: that everyone when they look at the Chiefs, they finally
- 0:48Speaker 3: remember the days of Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelsey just
- 0:51Speaker 3: running past everybody, the acrobatic acts, the aerial circus that
- 0:57Speaker 3: was in Arrowhead.
- 0:58Speaker 2: That team no longer exists.
- 1:00Speaker 3: And so as soon as the Chiefs come to that
- 1:02Speaker 3: realization that they are a different team and that they
- 1:04Speaker 3: have to play a methodical brand of football that requires
- 1:07Speaker 3: Pat Mahomes to get the ball out of his hands quickly.
- 1:10Speaker 3: That requires maybe a little more reliance on the running game.
- 1:13Speaker 3: That they have to be more of a half court
- 1:15Speaker 3: offense than a fast break offense. They'll be better for it.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Right now, they want to go back and try and
- 1:21Speaker 3: get these big chunk players whatever, and it's not there.
- 1:24Speaker 3: And I'll say this, Andy Reid has to be more
- 1:27Speaker 3: patient and discipline when it comes to taking the three
- 1:29Speaker 3: and four yard play, whether it's on the run or
- 1:32Speaker 3: the quick passing game. They have to make a decision
- 1:34Speaker 3: that they're going to be more efficient operating a deac
- 1:38Speaker 3: and dunk style of offense as opposed to trying to
- 1:40Speaker 3: push and push the envelope with all these creative plays
- 1:44Speaker 3: to generate these explosives. Right now, they don't have a
- 1:47Speaker 3: team that has the players that can deliver those explosive plays.
- 1:50Speaker 2: So they got to make the change and be who
- 1:52Speaker 2: they are.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Yeah, you mentioned half court playing half court hoops, and
- 1:57Speaker 1: that's when I watched it, buck Man like that they're there.
- 2:01Speaker 1: They are getting plastered. It is so weird to look
- 2:04Speaker 1: at it where they're just they can't uncover. The field
- 2:06Speaker 1: is shrunk, the safeties were. We used to always joke
- 2:09Speaker 1: and say the safeties were in the parking lot. Starting
- 2:10Speaker 1: with the Buffalo Bills on that Thursday night, you know
- 2:13Speaker 1: amazon game that we did a million years ago. This
- 2:17Speaker 1: is uh, this is a different offense. And then so okay,
- 2:20Speaker 1: well the field's gonna shrink, so we gotta have guys
- 2:22Speaker 1: that can run after catch. They're not good after the catch.
- 2:25Speaker 2: You know.
- 2:25Speaker 1: You you watch that same day, you watch San Francisco
- 2:28Speaker 1: and you watch Deebo Samuel and I. You can kiddle
- 2:30Speaker 1: when all these guys after the catch. Now, they had
- 2:32Speaker 1: a nice job. Kelsey had a nice stiff arm. He
- 2:34Speaker 1: got out in the open field and uh, and was
- 2:36Speaker 1: able to do something with the ball in his hands.
- 2:37Speaker 1: But man, they do not have that on the whole.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Also in this game, you know, the tackle situation is
- 2:43Speaker 1: not great. That that is that is an issue. Their
- 2:47Speaker 1: best plays were, you know, in terms of just getting
- 2:50Speaker 1: something positive, we're just screens where you're not getting a
- 2:53Speaker 1: ton of yards after the catch, but at least you're
- 2:55Speaker 1: getting positive plays. So they're a little bit of a mess.
- 2:59Speaker 1: And Mahomes I have never seen him in the past
- 3:02Speaker 1: drop his eyes as much as he did when he
- 3:04Speaker 1: did have some clean pockets. He bailed on more than
- 3:07Speaker 1: a few because he'd been hit and he doesn't really
- 3:10Speaker 1: trust his guys, so he's looking at the rush. He's
- 3:13Speaker 1: not seeing some things. There's an opportunity for a go ball,
- 3:15Speaker 1: a deep ball that he didn't take advantage of because
- 3:18Speaker 1: you know, his eyes were dropped. It also shows me that,
- 3:22Speaker 1: you know, for as much as we talk about how
- 3:24Speaker 1: great some of these players are, and Mahomes no question,
- 3:28Speaker 1: when we do trucks and trailers, he's a truck. You know,
- 3:30Speaker 1: he drives, he can drive it. He makes other people better.
- 3:33Speaker 1: But it does show you the difference and what the
- 3:35Speaker 1: numbers look like and what the performance looks like when
- 3:38Speaker 1: you don't have some of the pieces he's had in place,
- 3:40Speaker 1: you know, throughout his career, when they've gotten a little
- 3:42Speaker 1: worse on the offensive line, you don't have the speed
- 3:44Speaker 1: at receiver, you aren't quite as accomplished elsewhere, Mahomes looks
- 3:48Speaker 1: a little more mortal. And that's why when people get
- 3:51Speaker 1: mad at us and say when we get crushed, hey,
- 3:53Speaker 1: you missed on this quarterback or you missed on that quarterback.
- 3:56Speaker 1: You know what the environment matters, where you go matters
- 3:59Speaker 1: and this is an example. My homes is still playing
- 4:02Speaker 1: like a maybe A B plus A minus quarterback, but
- 4:05Speaker 1: not the A plus maybe in the discussion is the
- 4:08Speaker 1: greatest of all time because the environment's changed.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Yeah, DJ, And so this is a lesson for everybody.
- 4:14Speaker 2: It's a lesson for all of us.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Like, as much as we want to individualize football, you
- 4:18Speaker 3: can't do it. As much as we want to make
- 4:21Speaker 3: the quarterback solely responsible for the success of failure of
- 4:24Speaker 3: a team, it doesn't happen like that. There is not
- 4:27Speaker 3: a great quarterback that doesn't play with great players, like
- 4:29Speaker 3: you have to have great players on the other end.
- 4:32Speaker 3: As much as we like to romanticize the fact that, oh,
- 4:34Speaker 3: this guy makes his team better, yes they can, but
- 4:37Speaker 3: those players need to already be at a B B
- 4:39Speaker 3: plus level to become as You don't take a D
- 4:42Speaker 3: and make an A.
- 4:43Speaker 2: And what we're seeing in Kansas City.
- 4:45Speaker 3: Look, and I understand this because I understand the mindset
- 4:47Speaker 3: that Andy Reid had haven't been in Green Bay together.
- 4:51Speaker 3: There was a lot made when we're in Green Bay
- 4:53Speaker 3: about the system making the players on the perimeter. You
- 4:56Speaker 3: have a Hall of Fame quarterback. Look, the system will
- 4:59Speaker 3: elevate the players. The one thing though, is might have
- 5:03Speaker 3: underestimated how good and how talented Tyreek Hill was, because
- 5:07Speaker 3: the loss of Tyreek Hill has certainly changed the way
- 5:11Speaker 3: this Chief's offense has played. Yes, they won a Super
- 5:13Speaker 3: Bowl last year, but now the further we get away
- 5:17Speaker 3: from Tyreek Hill, the more we see the regression of
- 5:20Speaker 3: Travis Kelsey as he gets older. We're seeing that and
- 5:23Speaker 3: the other thing that normally, in most cases, we would
- 5:26Speaker 3: make this a big deal, but when you lose your
- 5:29Speaker 3: offensive coordinator, some things go out the door when he leaves.
- 5:32Speaker 3: And I know that Andy Reid has always been the
- 5:34Speaker 3: masterful play caller in those things. But I am beginning
- 5:37Speaker 3: to wonder without Eric B. Enemy and hearing some of
- 5:40Speaker 3: the things that were attributed to Eric B. Enemy and
- 5:43Speaker 3: watching about the demands and how he was coaching guys hard,
- 5:47Speaker 3: I do wonder if some of that hard coaching is
- 5:50Speaker 3: missed in Kansas City when it comes to just the
- 5:53Speaker 3: little things like lining up right, some of the drops
- 5:56Speaker 3: that we're seeing, some of the just the erarors gafs
- 6:00Speaker 3: that we're staying from this team that we haven't seen
- 6:03Speaker 3: in the past. Not saying that eb was the play
- 6:06Speaker 3: call of responsible for that, But sometimes when you're the coordinator,
- 6:09Speaker 3: your job is to clean up like the little details
- 6:12Speaker 3: that the head coach may miss. And I do wonder
- 6:15Speaker 3: have they lost some of that attention to detail as
- 6:18Speaker 3: well as some of the talent that went out the door.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Yeah, all flipping around to you. Though they have the
- 6:24Speaker 1: Bengals at home, then they're at the Chargers to finish
- 6:26Speaker 1: up the season. It doesn't look right. They're not playing
- 6:29Speaker 1: great offensively. They have issues that I don't think are
- 6:31Speaker 1: going to get totally resolved until the offseason have a
- 6:34Speaker 1: chance to add some more pieces. That being said, are
- 6:37Speaker 1: you really do you really want to play these guys
- 6:39Speaker 1: in the postseason with Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes? You
- 6:42Speaker 1: really want that matchup if you're some of these teams
- 6:44Speaker 1: in the AFC. I don't think the AFC is a
- 6:46Speaker 1: dominant conference right now. I know at the very top
- 6:49Speaker 1: what we saw from Baltimore it isn't is an elite
- 6:52Speaker 1: level team. But I mean Miami Dolphins, they already beat them.
- 6:57Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know anybody that they're going to
- 6:59Speaker 1: really fear if they get into the tournament. I mean,
- 7:01Speaker 1: they play Buffalo close, lost by three points. They can
- 7:04Speaker 1: play with anybody even when they're not right, So that
- 7:06Speaker 1: still makes them a very dangerous team. Loston Detroit obviously
- 7:09Speaker 1: the first game near by one point, So this is
- 7:12Speaker 1: still to me. Just let's not kick dirt on the
- 7:14Speaker 1: Chiefs just yet, no DJ.
- 7:17Speaker 3: And here's the great thing about the playoffs, right, the
- 7:19Speaker 3: great thing about the playoffs is the great opportunity to reset,
- 7:22Speaker 3: and the coaches and the teams are handling the right way.
- 7:24Speaker 3: Hey man, once you get into the tournament, doesn't matter
- 7:26Speaker 3: what you're seeding is. You got just as much of
- 7:28Speaker 3: a chance to go to the Super Bowl as anybody else.
- 7:30Speaker 3: Can you get your mind right? You would like to
- 7:32Speaker 3: go in with a little momentum, but we've seen, man,
- 7:35Speaker 3: you create your own momentum in the postseason. The kans
- 7:38Speaker 3: City Chiefs, they just have to make sure they get
- 7:40Speaker 3: into the tournament. Then you have two time MVP, you
- 7:44Speaker 3: have a head coach who knows how to win a
- 7:45Speaker 3: Super Bowl.
- 7:46Speaker 2: You have a defense that's playing liights out.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Yeah, like, you can't dismiss their chances of re emerging
- 7:52Speaker 3: as the team to beat in the AFC. We just
- 7:54Speaker 3: haven't had enough visual evidence of late to fully back
- 7:58Speaker 3: the Cancity Chiefs as a team that can go back
- 8:00Speaker 3: to back.
- 8:02Speaker 1: No doubt. All right, let's switch gears here. It's time
- 8:05Speaker 1: for sacks and quarterbacks, and let's give the Raiders their love.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Let's give Antonio Pierce his love. Let's give that defense
- 8:10Speaker 1: led by Max Crosby, their love for what they did
- 8:13Speaker 1: to the Kansas City Chiefs. It is. It has definitely
- 8:16Speaker 1: been a power statement from Antonio Pierce to let his
- 8:20Speaker 1: bosses know, Hey, maybe last time you had Rich Passacia,
- 8:22Speaker 1: the team was playing well, you got into the postseason,
- 8:24Speaker 1: you decided to go out and hire a bunch of
- 8:26Speaker 1: new guys and really kind of kick the old guard out.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Antonio Piers is saying, hey, don't make that mistake another
- 8:32Speaker 1: time here.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Yeah, no, he's done a really good job.
- 8:36Speaker 3: DJ and I think when you watch the tape you
- 8:38Speaker 3: saw this, I am really amazed at how simplistic the
- 8:41Speaker 3: game plan was for the Las Vegas Raiders. You know,
- 8:44Speaker 3: there's a little bluster coming out of the Raiders camp
- 8:48Speaker 3: before the game about hey man, physicality, violence, really kind
- 8:52Speaker 3: of punching the Kansasity Chiefs in the mouth. If they're
- 8:54Speaker 3: going to do all the other stuff like you got
- 8:56Speaker 3: to hit them, You got to make it a very
- 8:57Speaker 3: physical affair. With dj W, it really came down the effort, discipline, physicality.
- 9:04Speaker 3: Those zones where we're talking about those guys now uncovered
- 9:07Speaker 3: dj those zones were high.
- 9:08Speaker 2: School three deep defenses, four under three deep. Hey, they
- 9:12Speaker 2: throw the check down, they rallied, and they tackled.
- 9:16Speaker 3: But they were able to play those seven man zones
- 9:19Speaker 3: and a little occasional man the man because up front
- 9:21Speaker 3: they were absolutely wearing them out. Max Crosby and Coats,
- 9:27Speaker 3: they were just ripping and running, relentless in their pursuit
- 9:30Speaker 3: of the quarterback.
- 9:31Speaker 2: And look, they made Pat Mahomes uncomfortable. And so it
- 9:35Speaker 2: ain't about the trickery.
- 9:36Speaker 3: It's about the execution, and the execution from the Raiders
- 9:39Speaker 3: the last few weeks has been suburb which is a
- 9:41Speaker 3: testament to what Antonio Pears and Patrick Graham and all
- 9:44Speaker 3: the other coaches have done.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I want to give EARLD colleague Mike Mayck a
- 9:48Speaker 1: little love here too, because when you look at Max Crosby,
- 9:50Speaker 1: who's really one of the best players in the league
- 9:52Speaker 1: regardless of position, Mike had hit a home run that one. Also,
- 9:55Speaker 1: Malcolm Coots had three sacks in this game. He's got
- 9:59Speaker 1: seven sacks now on the year. He has turned himself
- 10:01Speaker 1: into a really, really good young player. He's twenty five
- 10:03Speaker 1: years old in his third season, really starting to produce
- 10:07Speaker 1: and gives them a pair of dynamic edge rushers there
- 10:10Speaker 1: on the opposite side. You mentioned Patrick Graham doing a
- 10:13Speaker 1: wonderful job as well. It's been impressive to watch it.
- 10:16Speaker 1: I saw it. I mean the week before Jack Jones
- 10:18Speaker 1: jumping in the lineup, jumping route for a pick six
- 10:20Speaker 1: against the Chargers. Why not double up do the same
- 10:23Speaker 1: thing again in this one. So it's been fun to
- 10:27Speaker 1: watch how hard they're playing. And I think, to me,
- 10:31Speaker 1: I think it's understood or people expect that you're going
- 10:34Speaker 1: to see the same effort your professionals. What that entails
- 10:38Speaker 1: as you show up and you give your best every week.
- 10:40Speaker 1: But there's a different level of passion that these guys
- 10:42Speaker 1: are playing with buck that I don't know where to
- 10:44Speaker 1: attribute it other than to Antonio Pearson and their group.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Yeah, j you get what you demand, and so I
- 10:52Speaker 3: think what they've done is they've demanded more effort. To me,
- 10:55Speaker 3: when I look at this team and watching the team closely,
- 10:58Speaker 3: I see a team that look, man, and what they're
- 11:00Speaker 3: doing isn't complex, but man, they really dialt into the
- 11:03Speaker 3: game plan. They really do a good job of late
- 11:05Speaker 3: of anticipating what is about to happen. Whether it's they've
- 11:08Speaker 3: done a better job of really studying the tape and
- 11:10Speaker 3: understand information tendencies and down in distance in those things,
- 11:14Speaker 3: or just having a better overall awareness and understanding of
- 11:17Speaker 3: what the scheme is being what the scheme demands of
- 11:20Speaker 3: the players. But I am watching the team that man,
- 11:23Speaker 3: they are hunting the ball and they're getting to the
- 11:25Speaker 3: ball with like reckless abandon and the only way you
- 11:28Speaker 3: can do it like that is you know what you're
- 11:31Speaker 3: doing so you can play fast. So hats off to
- 11:33Speaker 3: them for simplifying whatever it is that they were doing
- 11:36Speaker 3: or teaching and explaining the techniques and the scheme very
- 11:40Speaker 3: clearly so the players know exactly what they do so
- 11:43Speaker 3: they can just play with their.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Hair on fire.
- 11:46Speaker 1: No doubt it's working. And hats off to the Raiders.
- 11:49Speaker 1: That's a big win for them going on the road
- 11:50Speaker 1: and beating the Kansas City Chiefs. All right, we're going
- 11:53Speaker 1: to take a quick break when we come back. It
- 11:55Speaker 1: is rocky draft time, coming off of a week where gosh,
- 11:58Speaker 1: I think Rhett had a good week. Have to give
- 12:00Speaker 1: him his flowers here as he's going to have a
- 12:03Speaker 1: producer Drew draft for him this week. See if he
- 12:04Speaker 1: can keep it rolling. We'll get to that right after this.
- 12:11Speaker 1: All right, Well, it was a good week for our
- 12:13Speaker 1: buddy Rhett in the rookie quarter or rookie Draft, I
- 12:16Speaker 1: should say. Last week. He piled up seven points, two
- 12:18Speaker 1: first place finishes for the week, with Bryce Young and
- 12:21Speaker 1: Jamier Gibbs both having big weeks, and then he also
- 12:23Speaker 1: got a point from Sam Laporta for being second place
- 12:25Speaker 1: on the tight end or the pass catcher spot there.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Bucky got a point for de Vito. Somehow, de Vito
- 12:31Speaker 1: outscored Aidan O'Connell and ad O'Connell played the whole game.
- 12:34Speaker 1: DeVito played about two minutes and still ended up getting
- 12:37Speaker 1: me there. Bijon got me a point for a second
- 12:40Speaker 1: place finish, and Pooka Nakula got me the first place
- 12:42Speaker 1: three points there. So for the season, Drew getting my
- 12:46Speaker 1: air here? Am I still holding on here? Who we got?
- 12:49Speaker 1: I'm up by three? Okay, so I'm holding on tight here.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Drew is going to fill in for Rhet, and so
- 12:55Speaker 1: Rhett has the first pick, followed by me and then
- 12:57Speaker 1: you and Drew has already given me the heads up
- 13:00Speaker 1: to Rehtt's first pick. He's taking Jamiir Gibbs as he
- 13:03Speaker 1: tries to keep it rolling there. Jamiir Gibbs has been awesome,
- 13:06Speaker 1: so no problem of that selection there. I'm gonna come
- 13:10Speaker 1: back Buck. I know that it's not official if he's
- 13:12Speaker 1: playing at this point in time, but I'm gonna gamble.
- 13:15Speaker 1: I'm gonna take C. J. Stroud and hope that he's
- 13:18Speaker 1: he's good to go and back for the Houston Texans
- 13:20Speaker 1: and see if he can't get them back on the
- 13:22Speaker 1: right track. Man, they miss him in a big way.
- 13:24Speaker 1: So I'll go with Stroud here.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Okay, Well, look, I guess I have to go back
- 13:30Speaker 3: to back and this is gonna hurt me because I'm
- 13:31Speaker 3: gonna do something that I don't believe it in the
- 13:34Speaker 3: fantasy world, but I have to have no choice. I
- 13:36Speaker 3: gotta take Bryce Young. He's gonna play against the Jaguars
- 13:38Speaker 3: as we can. Hopefully I can get yards, but find
- 13:41Speaker 3: a way to lose. And then I'm gonna take b
- 13:43Speaker 3: Jhon Robinson right after that. So, I mean I got
- 13:45Speaker 3: two playmakers getting ready to go, and that maybe both
- 13:47Speaker 3: of those.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Guys can have a good week.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Okay, well that makes it easy for me. I'm gonna
- 13:52Speaker 1: go Pooka Nakua for the second week in a row.
- 13:55Speaker 1: He's been good to me here, so I feel good
- 13:57Speaker 1: about this Stroud and Akua combo that I've got. Drew,
- 14:00Speaker 1: You've got back to back picks for RHTT here, find
- 14:03Speaker 1: a way to screw it up what you got. He's
- 14:05Speaker 1: gonna go Za Flowers at the wide receiver spot, and
- 14:08Speaker 1: he's going to go Aidan O'Connell at the quarterback spot.
- 14:12Speaker 1: And I think that's more of a Drew pick than
- 14:14Speaker 1: a REHTT pick. Is Drews a raider guy, and he
- 14:16Speaker 1: thinks that Aidan O'Connell is going to complete a pass
- 14:18Speaker 1: in the second half this week. He's very confident about that,
- 14:21Speaker 1: so he's going to go in that direction. I've got
- 14:23Speaker 1: running back gosh, I guess I let's see here, I
- 14:28Speaker 1: gotta go eight chan Right, that's gonna be a tough
- 14:31Speaker 1: one against the Baltimore Ravens. But maybe he catches the
- 14:33Speaker 1: ball on the backfield a little bit. All right, I'm
- 14:35Speaker 1: gonna go eight Chan. I don't like that pick, but
- 14:37Speaker 1: that's what I got to do here. Buck, you got
- 14:39Speaker 1: the last pick. Yeah, still, because I think I got
- 14:42Speaker 1: Jordan Adison got her.
- 14:43Speaker 3: So I think I may have to go js in
- 14:45Speaker 3: Jackson Smith and Jigba to see if you can figure
- 14:47Speaker 3: it out.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Okay, all right, Jackson Smith and Jigbah for Buck. There
- 14:52Speaker 1: you have it. Rhett is going to trot out Jamiir Gibbs,
- 14:56Speaker 1: Za Flowers, and Aidan O'Connell. I'm going to trot out Stroud,
- 15:01Speaker 1: Puka Nakua, and then Devon a Chan and Bucky is
- 15:05Speaker 1: going to run out there with Bryce Young, with Bijon Robinson,
- 15:09Speaker 1: and with Jackson Smith and Jigba. So it's pretty close.
- 15:12Speaker 1: We've got a pretty close race here as we head
- 15:14Speaker 1: down the stretch. We'll see how it works out this week.
