Transcript
- 0:00We are starting a new book, the Book of Malachi.
- 0:03This is the last of the prophetic books that we're
- 0:06covering. So now I've done a podcast,
- 0:07podcast on every single one. I was looking back and I
- 0:11realized that I actually did Esther twice.
- 0:13But after, we'll just get through this and then we'll
- 0:17figure out where we go next. There's still some Old Testament
- 0:20books that I haven't covered yet for the podcast, and my goal is
- 0:23to get every single book of the Bible on this podcast.
- 0:26So we're getting there. Anyway.
- 0:28Let's get started with Malachi first.
- 0:30Let's pray. Dear Lord, please be with us as
- 0:33always when we read scripture to open our minds, our hearts, our
- 0:37ears to what you have to say. We ask this in Jesus name, Amen.
- 0:42So in the study Bible that I have, it has an introduction
- 0:45which is really helpful because it gives you context of when it
- 0:49happens, the place, setting, and what was going on at the time
- 0:52that this prophet spoke. So I'm going to read through
- 0:56that, the introduction. So why read this book?
- 1:00Malachi holds a mirror before you, helping you assess your
- 1:04relationship with God. Do you believe he loves you?
- 1:09Does he have your wholehearted love and obedience?
- 1:13Or are you only going through the motions?
- 1:17God's questions to Israel will sneak behind your defenses and
- 1:21shake you out of mere routine to ignite renewed loyalty to Him
- 1:28who wrote the book. The name Malachi means quote my
- 1:32messenger. It is uncertain whether there
- 1:35whether this was actually the author's name or whether it was
- 1:39used as a title, since prophets in general called them called
- 1:43were called Messengers of the Lord.
- 1:46Either way, this prophet clearly sensed God was speaking through
- 1:50him. When was it written?
- 1:52Perhaps around 4:30 BC. It was written after Israel
- 1:57returned from captivity in Babylon, after the temple in
- 2:02Jerusalem was rebuilt, which was 516 BC, and after worshipped
- 2:09their lapsed into mere routine. Why was it written?
- 2:14To confront the spirit of complacency, an indifference
- 2:18that overcame the people of God. What to look for in Malachi?
- 2:23Malachi presents a word from God, followed by a complaint
- 2:28from the people, followed in turn by an answer from God.
- 2:31Look for God's passion in this exchange.
- 2:35God loves you with an unfailing, passionate love and wants you to
- 2:39return His love by demonstrating faithfulness, integrity, purity
- 2:45and justice in human relationships, especially in
- 2:49regard to the powerless. So here's what it starts out as
- 2:53chapter one, a prophecy, the word of the Lord to Israel
- 2:58through Malachi. I have loved you, says the Lord.
- 3:03But you ask, how have you loved us?
- 3:06Was not Esau, Jacob's brother, declares the Lord.
- 3:10Yet I have loved Jacob, but Esau I have hated, and I have turned
- 3:15his hill countryside into a wasteland and left his
- 3:20inheritance to the desert Jackals.
- 3:23I'm going to pause right there because when we read this, Esau
- 3:29and Jacob were brothers. But what was different about
- 3:34them is I mean the neither 1 was really good because Jacob was
- 3:38very deceptive when he received his father's blessing, Isaac's
- 3:44blessing and Esau. But Esau didn't care about his
- 3:49inheritance. He was, it was kind of like, I
- 3:52guess a literal event, but it had a lot of symbology because
- 3:57Esau was more concerned about the moment he was hungry, when
- 4:00he came back from hunting and Jacob had some Stew and Esau
- 4:05traded him. He's like, yeah, I'll give you
- 4:06my inheritance. I just want the Stew right now.
- 4:09And that's very much symbolic to all of us.
- 4:13Like, are we going to sacrifice our inheritance with God by
- 4:19putting our desires in something worldly that isn't going to last
- 4:23forever? And that's what people generally
- 4:25do. We, we have worldly things as
- 4:28our goals, as our priorities, and we don't have God as our
- 4:33priority. And, and in doing that, we
- 4:37could, if we don't wake up, we could lose our inheritance by
- 4:42not placing God as a priority, by not having the fear of God,
- 4:46by not, you know, submitting to God and repenting of our sinful
- 4:53ways. God wants to be first.
- 4:56He has a right to be first because he's the creator.
- 4:59He is the God of the universe. He made everything.
- 5:03There is no one greater than him.
- 5:05So why? Why should he be placed
- 5:10secondary to anything at all in our life?
- 5:13I mean, that's a hard thing for a lot of people to get a grip on
- 5:17because we don't see God in person.
- 5:21And so we think about all the things we can see, feel and
- 5:24touch and we think about those things.
- 5:27And sometimes we prioritize and we get things all messed up.
- 5:30Not thinking about who gave us everything that we have and who
- 5:35created us. Most importantly, like He
- 5:38created each one of us out of his love.
- 5:41Like he had a a plan for us and he had a purpose for us.
- 5:46And so he decided I'm going to make every single person that
- 5:50exists today. He says he, he made each one of
- 5:54us and he had a plan for us. Now we can choose to live out
- 5:58his plan or we can choose to go our own way because that's what
- 6:02God did. He gave us free will and that's
- 6:05what most people are exercising is their free will.
- 6:08And their free will includes rebellion to God and includes
- 6:13having No Fear of God. Now when I talk about fear of
- 6:16God, it's it's meaning the awe of God, like really
- 6:20understanding who God is not. He's not somebody that's there
- 6:24to beat us up. He, he is love.
- 6:27God is love in Scripture. He's defined as love.
- 6:31He is pure love. He is holy, He is righteous, He
- 6:34is just. So we have to, I guess we get to
- 6:39know God through Scripture, but we can't just know part of God.
- 6:44We have to know everything about God and things become revealed
- 6:48to us as we read scripture. And we see when we read
- 6:52Scripture, God is revealed and then we can get to know him more
- 6:59and more by reading scripture. And anyway, it helps when you
- 7:05see the power of God and you realize who He is.
- 7:08And at that point you will humble yourself and realize that
- 7:14I can't do this like life is. Life has a lot of challenges and
- 7:18if we try to do it on our own, we're missing out on what God
- 7:23has offered us. If if we believe in Jesus and we
- 7:32I don't know how to say it, but if we come into agreement with
- 7:36God and agree with God that what you say God is correct, is
- 7:43right, is justice, is love. If we agree with all of the
- 7:49things in the Bible, we realize that we are rebelling against
- 7:54that a lot of what's in the Bible, and we can't just do it
- 7:59on our own because it really requires the Holy Spirit.
- 8:04And when we believe in Jesus and we get to that point where we're
- 8:09like, OK, Jesus, you are Lord over my life.
- 8:12That means that you are the ruler.
- 8:14You're going to guide me, You're going to direct me, and I'm
- 8:16going to be obedient to you. And when we are willing to do
- 8:20that, God helps us. He sends the Holy Spirit to us
- 8:24and empowers us to overcome the stuff we could never overcome on
- 8:28our own. And there's a lot of people who
- 8:30don't even realize that. But there's like, the keys to
- 8:34the Kingdom are identified in the Bible.
- 8:37And when we read the Bible, we see that anyway.
- 8:41We don't want to be going back to Malachi.
- 8:43We don't want to be foolish like Esaw and focus on worldly things
- 8:48that are not going to matter in, I mean, not everything.
- 8:52I mean people will because people will exist beyond the
- 8:56time when the earth is gone, when there's a new heaven and a
- 8:59new earth that comes. But that's the only thing.
- 9:02I mean, like if we're putting our emphasis and our focus on
- 9:05building something here on the earth, the Bible clearly says
- 9:09this whole entire earth one day will be destroyed completely and
- 9:15there will be a new heaven and a new earth.
- 9:16So anything we're building here is somewhat fruitless.
- 9:20I mean, it's not fruitless. Maybe that's not the right work,
- 9:22but it's, it's just like it, it really doesn't matter.
- 9:27I mean, it's just this is our testing time that God's seeing
- 9:31what he, what we do with he's given us.
- 9:36He's watching us and seeing how we respond to the gifts that God
- 9:41has given us. And we can either choose them
- 9:44for we can either use them for good or for evil.
- 9:49And what we reap or what we sow we will reap.
- 9:54So whatever we do is going to come back to us in the end at
- 9:59the time of judgement. But we can look at these
- 10:04warnings and if we apply these to our lives, we can have a
- 10:09better outcome for sure if we apply this to heart.
- 10:13So the the main thing about Esau and Jacob, Esau didn't care
- 10:17about his inheritance. So we don't want to be like Esau
- 10:21and not care about our inheritance being able to live
- 10:25in the presence of God one day. And that's what God wants for us
- 10:30to be actually like face to face with God someday.
- 10:34And, and the only way that we can do that is by receiving the
- 10:38Holy Spirit. The only way we can receive the
- 10:41Holy Spirit is to believe in Jesus, because Jesus is
- 10:44essentially the keeper of the Holy Spirit.
- 10:46He said he receives the Holy Spirit from the Father and gives
- 10:49it to whomever he wants. So if we don't believe in Jesus,
- 10:53we will not receive the Holy Spirit.
- 10:56And that's the key. Jesus said I am the way, the
- 10:59truth and the life, and no one comes to the Father except
- 11:02through me. I don't know how much clearer he
- 11:05could have made it. So we'll go back to verse 4.
- 11:08In chapter 1. Edom may say, though we have
- 11:11been crushed, we will rebuild the runes.
- 11:14Now Edom is southwestern Jordan today.
- 11:18So this is really interesting because Jordan is not really
- 11:21involved with what's going on in this.
- 11:24I mean, not essentially, I guess, and as a bystander they
- 11:28are, but they're not actively involved or in war with Israel.
- 11:35And what's really interesting is that the the Esau was really, he
- 11:40moved to Edom, which is, you know, southwestern Jordan.
- 11:44And Esau is Jacob's twin brother.
- 11:48So these are brothers that are living next to one another and
- 11:52you wouldn't even know that because there's this ancient
- 11:54hostility still between. There's this arguing over the
- 11:58Temple Mount between Jordan and Israel and and there's different
- 12:02beliefs and ideologies that are clashing.
- 12:05And yet ultimately if you go back in history, they are
- 12:09actually brothers. They are literally twin brothers
- 12:12born at the same time. So it's it's very interesting to
- 12:17see all of this in the Middle East and realize that it has
- 12:20biblical roots. Everything that's happening
- 12:22there. OK, so continuing on, but this
- 12:26is what the Lord Almighty says they may build, but I will
- 12:30demolish. They will be called the wicked
- 12:33land, a people always under the wrath of the Lord.
- 12:39You will see it with your own eyes and say, Great is the Lord,
- 12:43even beyond the borders of Israel.
- 12:47A son honors his father, and a slave his master.
- 12:51If I am a father, where is the honor do me?
- 12:55If I am a master, where is the respect do me, says the Lord
- 13:00Almighty. So do we.
- 13:03Here's a question for us. Do we see God as our Father?
- 13:08I mean he created us, He is our Father, he is our Father in
- 13:12heaven. Just like the Lords prayer that
- 13:14Jesus gave us our Father who art in heaven and then he is if if I
- 13:20am a master, where is the respect due to me?
- 13:25So it's not just and we look at Jesus it's not just everybody
- 13:30likes Jesus as our savior like thank God for Jesus because of
- 13:34his self sacrificing death on the cross that we are about to
- 13:39celebrate at a time called Eastover Easter, our Passover.
- 13:45You know, that's all of when it happened, which is right around
- 13:48the corner. But you know, we we all love to
- 13:52say like thank God for Jesus what he did, but do we make him
- 13:55master over our life? Do we show God?
- 13:58Jesus said, if you love me, obey my commands.
- 14:02There are many times here that the obedience part of it is
- 14:07showing love back to God. And this is exactly what God is
- 14:11emphasizing here to the people of Israel.
- 14:14He's like you're doing these things, but and you and there
- 14:17there's a difference between doing the obedience out of love
- 14:21and respect for God or doing it just out of religious tradition.
- 14:26Because people could go to church, they could look holy and
- 14:30they could do all the things they could act out their faith,
- 14:34But where is their heart? Like God is after the heart.
- 14:37Like where where is your heart? Are you really doing this
- 14:42because you love God? Are you doing this to make
- 14:45yourself look good for in front of other people so that other
- 14:48people say, Oh, this person is a really good person?
- 14:52Because you have to remember that Jesus said no one is good,
- 14:56only God is good. So if we are trying to look good
- 15:00in front of anybody else, we're fooling ourselves because we are
- 15:03not and we won't be perfected until Jesus returns.
- 15:08And thank God when he returns one day we will have all of this
- 15:12filth removed from us. But until then, we're in this
- 15:16process of becoming more like the image of God every day that
- 15:22the Holy Spirit, every day that we allow the Lord to be Lord, to
- 15:28be master over our lives. When we deny ourselves, just
- 15:33like Jesus said, no one can follow me unless they deny
- 15:35themselves and put up their own cross.
- 15:37Are we doing that? Are we denying our fleshly
- 15:40desires and being obedient to God to show God we love him not
- 15:46to earn our way? We can't earn our way into
- 15:48heaven, into God's Kingdom. All we can do is when we obey is
- 15:55show God that we love him. That's it.
- 15:57We just show God that we love him.
- 15:59But if we are not being obedient, then if we're, you
- 16:03know, think about the opposite of that.
- 16:05If you love me, obey my commands.
- 16:07So what does it mean? Like if you don't obey his
- 16:09commands, are you showing God I don't love you?
- 16:11Do you want to show God you don't love him?
- 16:15Think about that. OK, so then he goes back to if
- 16:19I'm a master, where is the respect due to me, says the Lord
- 16:22Almighty. It is you priest who show
- 16:25contempt for my name. So God's going right after the
- 16:28head leaders of the people. And I think that even can apply
- 16:32today to people that the leaders of of churches, are they really
- 16:39showing respect for God? Are they preaching the true
- 16:43gospel? Are they preaching the words of
- 16:45Jesus, the words that are found in Scripture?
- 16:49Are they, are they giving God the honor?
- 16:53And if they are they, you know, talking to people about
- 16:58obedience again, not to do it. You know, there's obedience
- 17:05really is like loving one another and and denying to self,
- 17:11like not being selfish. Essentially.
- 17:14It's like, are you doing things out of selfishness or are you
- 17:17doing things for the better of another person?
- 17:21And that's something we all should ask ourselves.
- 17:22And I, I just have a feeling that most of us have times where
- 17:27we realize we're doing this out of selfish reasons, not because
- 17:31out of love for another person. And that's when we need to
- 17:35correct it. And I think the Holy Spirit
- 17:38gently reminds us that, hey, are you doing this for yourself?
- 17:42Are you doing this for somebody else?
- 17:44Because you know what you should be doing.
- 17:46If you're going to be an image of God, you should be doing it
- 17:48for somebody else. Your yourself should be the
- 17:51servant to another person. So anyway, God is really talking
- 17:56to the the priest here. It is you, priest, who show
- 18:00contempt for my name. But you ask, how have we shown
- 18:03contempt for your name? By offering defiled food on my
- 18:07altar. But you ask, how have we defiled
- 18:10you? By saying the Lord's Table is
- 18:13contemptible. When you offer blind animals for
- 18:16sacrifice, is that not wrong? When you sacrifice lame or
- 18:21diseased animals, is that not wrong?
- 18:24Try offering them to your governor.
- 18:27Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you, says the
- 18:31Lord Almighty? Now plead with God to be
- 18:34gracious to us with such offerings from your hands.
- 18:38Will he accept you, says the Lord Almighty?
- 18:41Oh, that one of you would shut the temple doors so that you
- 18:46would not light useless fires on my altar.
- 18:51I am not pleased with you, says the Lord Almighty, and I will
- 18:56accept no offering from your hands.
- 18:58My name will be great among the nations from where the sun rises
- 19:03to where it sets in every place. Incense and pure offerings will
- 19:09be brought to me, because my name will be great among the
- 19:13nations, says the Lord Almighty. There is a day that's coming
- 19:17where every knee will bow to the Lord.
- 19:21The reality of Jesus as Lord, when he returns, there's going
- 19:27to be a time where where it's all going to be.
- 19:30I don't know if people were denying it right now, if they
- 19:32were blinded right now, if their eyes are open.
- 19:35But there will be a day when Jesus returns and that's going
- 19:39to be the judgement time. That's not, I mean, Jesus first
- 19:42came to save the sinners. He came for the sinners to wake
- 19:47him up, but when he comes back, he's going to judge.
- 19:52It's a very different experience.
- 19:54Like Jesus was just being selfless and a servant in order
- 20:02to bring people into the Kingdom to be to have his brothers and
- 20:06sisters in the Kingdom with the Father.
- 20:10And but then when he comes back, it's it's the time to separate
- 20:15those who put their faith in God and those who rebel against God.
- 20:20And it's really time for all of us.
- 20:24It's always time for us because we are not promised tomorrow
- 20:28that we make this decision today.
- 20:32OK, verse 12 But you profane it by saying the Lords Table is
- 20:36defiled and its food is contemptible.
- 20:39And you say what a burden and you sniff at it contemptuously,
- 20:44says the Lord Almighty. When you bring injured, lame or
- 20:48diseased animals and offer them as sacrifices, should I accept
- 20:53them from your hands? Says the Lord.
- 20:55Cursed is The Who has an who has an acceptable male in his flock
- 21:01and vows to give give it then sacrifices A blemished animal to
- 21:06the Lord. For I am a great king, says the
- 21:09Lord Almighty, and my name is to be feared among the nations.
- 21:14That's the end of chapter 1. So I mean, God is saying, you
- 21:20know, if you have a good animal, you're supposed to give your
- 21:25best to God, your vow. If you say like, I'm going to
- 21:29give my best to God, but then you're like, oh, well, I want to
- 21:32keep this best thing for me or for someone else or whatever.
- 21:36But then you give something that I'm just going to use this like
- 21:40messed up 1 and and put this as an offering that is not godly.
- 21:46That is not what God is after. He's not after the ritual of a
- 21:52sacrifice. In fact, he said he at some
- 21:56point in the Bible, can't remember which book it was, but
- 21:59he's like, I hate your sacrifices.
- 22:02Like he doesn't want them. God gave us sacrifices or gave
- 22:05the Israelites sacrifices in order so they wouldn't die
- 22:08because the wages of sin is death.
- 22:13And so God allowed a temporary atonement for unintentional sin.
- 22:19I just recently saw this when I was studying.
- 22:22Just check this out. Go back to Leviticus and look at
- 22:26the different types of offerings there are.
- 22:29And what I didn't realize was that all of these offerings were
- 22:34to make, I guess, restitution. I don't know.
- 22:39It wasn't like Jesus was the final sacrifice that made
- 22:42atonement for everything that happened in the past and will
- 22:46happen in the future with mankind for those who repent and
- 22:49turn to Christ and believe in Christ and believe in his death
- 22:53and resurrection. But the sacrifices, and I did go
- 22:57through the Bible and look at this, they were for
- 22:59unintentional sin, not intentional sinning.
- 23:04And like in the book of Hebrews, it says like those who you know,
- 23:08who are aware of this and keep on sinning, they can only expect
- 23:13the wrath of God. Basically.
- 23:15I'm paraphrasing that. I think it's Hebrews 10 verse
- 23:1826. Maybe that's just coming to mind
- 23:20right now. I'm not sure that's I could be
- 23:22wrong on that where that verse is located.
- 23:25But that is really a verse that we need to remind ourselves of,
- 23:31like just because we don't feel like doing something that we
- 23:35know God says is, is we need to do this.
- 23:39But then we decide, I don't really want to do that.
- 23:42I prefer to do something else. That's just like Saul.
- 23:46That's what Saul did. He was like he would get
- 23:48commands and then and he would say, well, I'll do part of it,
- 23:52but I think, you know, I'm going to use my judgement and I think
- 23:55this part is better. Like I'm going to save like the
- 23:58the best things and keep those for the Israelites.
- 24:01When God said wipe it all out, he said no, because all of it
- 24:04was corrupted. All of it was full, it was
- 24:06contaminated in some way and get God knows things that we don't
- 24:10know. And God gives us rules and laws
- 24:14to protect us, maybe not in a physical way, but in a spiritual
- 24:21way. Absolutely.
- 24:22And I think also in a physical way because I, I believe as I've
- 24:26studied more and more that when we break God's law, we're coming
- 24:31into agreement with God's enemy. And that gives God's enemy
- 24:36access to our life and can make our life hell.
- 24:40And God allows it because he wants us to come to repentance
- 24:46and turn to him. So he's like, I'll give you what
- 24:49you want. You're siding with the enemy
- 24:51here. I'm telling you, this is my, my
- 24:54law, my, you know, be, obey me and it'll go well.
- 24:58But if you choose what you choose, you're going to have
- 25:00consequences of it. But you get free will.
- 25:03You can just do whatever you want.
- 25:06And then people do it. And then people, you know, for a
- 25:09while it's good until it isn't. And then it gets bad.
- 25:14And then people are kind of at their end and they're like
- 25:18finally pleading with God, like God, please help me.
- 25:20I'm in such pain or I've had, I'm so sad or I, you know,
- 25:24whatever bad things. And then they finally come to
- 25:28God. And God in his love and grace
- 25:33and mercy, he accepts people back.
- 25:36And as long as their heart is right with him, like they're
- 25:40really meaning it. They're not just trying to be
- 25:43manipulative to God and then going through the motions and
- 25:46saying, oh God, I'm so sorry. But in their heart they're not
- 25:49sorry. Like God sees all that.
- 25:51We can't hide any of that from God.
- 25:53He knows whether we are telling him the truth or not.
- 25:56I mean, he knows our thoughts. He knows our thoughts.
- 26:00We can't hide it from him. We might be good at hiding it
- 26:03from other people, but not God. He knows it all.
- 26:06So it's not worth it. And that's the other thing too,
- 26:08that I'm learning also about what the enemy does is that, you
- 26:13know, the enemy is the accuser in front of God.
- 26:17And we'll read about that probably the next book I'll do
- 26:19is Job. And that's really relevant to
- 26:22this. Like he is the, the enemy is the
- 26:25accuser in front of God. And when it's just like such a
- 26:31manipulative thing that happens that my, I didn't realize this
- 26:35until I read through the Bible as much as I have now.
- 26:39But when the enemy gets access to you, he just, he lures you in
- 26:45with something attractive, something that sounds good.
- 26:48And so you accept that, you bite on to it and, and he may have
- 26:51even like let things go, you know, like have things really
- 26:56wonderful happen in your life. And, and so you, you get hooked
- 27:01on that and you think, well, this is good.
- 27:02And then there's a lot of people who do live righteously and they
- 27:06look at the evil people who don't live righteously and they
- 27:09think, well, why do they have all that?
- 27:11You know, why is everything going good for them?
- 27:13Why are things bad in my life? But yet in this wicked person's
- 27:17life, everything seems to be good.
- 27:19Well, that's the enemy's deceit. It's kind of like the enemy has
- 27:25a fishing line. He's out there and he hooks
- 27:27somebody with some tasty treat on the end of the hook and we're
- 27:32the fish. We bite on it and then we're
- 27:35going to be his. We're going to be destroyed.
- 27:37We're going to be cooked, but we don't know it.
- 27:39At the moment. It seems like it's pretty good.
- 27:42But then we realized we are hooked.
- 27:44We become a slave to sin. And if you've ever gotten into
- 27:48some sin or done something and not repented of it, it's gets
- 27:52easier and easier to keep on sinning when you don't repent.
- 27:57And it gets harder and harder. And so then you feel trapped.
- 28:00You feel like I can't change because you try and you can't
- 28:03get out of it. Well, you can't get out of it
- 28:06because you are trying on your own power and you're not working
- 28:10with God. You've not turned to God.
- 28:12God is the ultimate power. And when we try to do things on
- 28:17our own, we're not going to be as successful as we would with
- 28:22God. So it's, it's like we see this
- 28:25repetitious cycle of the enemy attracting people, even the
- 28:30Israelites, everybody, he attracts them somehow.
- 28:34A lot of times it's with lustful things.
- 28:37That's the way it seems like that is the easiest thing that
- 28:40he can lure people in is like something sexual, because that's
- 28:44a desire of most people. And so he'll lure them in with
- 28:48that and it all seems good. And then what he does is he
- 28:53starts to destroy their lives because the enemy doesn't care
- 28:57for you. The enemy just wants to destroy
- 29:00you. That's his whole mission.
- 29:01He wants to destroy everything that God has created because he
- 29:05hates God. He wants, he wants to be
- 29:07worshipped. He doesn't want to be the one
- 29:12who was created. He wants to be God.
- 29:17He's not. He wasn't happy with what he
- 29:19got. And so he rebelled against God
- 29:21and he was given a lot of wisdom and beauty and all these sorts
- 29:25of things and powers and, and God allows it for a certain
- 29:30time. And he was like, supposedly like
- 29:33somebody really special. But then wickedness was found in
- 29:38him, his own desires, and they overcame him.
- 29:43And and he also has other spiritual entities.
- 29:47They're angels that he's corrupted.
- 29:49Not well, they've made a choice to align with him.
- 29:53And then there's I guess what I've learned about demons Are
- 29:58that a theory at least? I don't know.
- 30:01I don't know if anybody really knows, but the theory is that
- 30:04demons are actually the disembodied spirits of the
- 30:07Nephilim. I don't know if that's true or
- 30:10not, but that's what it, it's a theory that's out there.
- 30:14So you have these like evil things that are in the world and
- 30:19they're all kind of like just looking at destruction.
- 30:22They were all like part of a plan to destroy mankind.
- 30:28And that's really ultimately what they're doing.
- 30:30And then humans are so naive to this, are so ignorant to this
- 30:35that they don't realize this, this attractiveness of
- 30:39manipulation is really leading them to eternal death.
- 30:45So when your eyes are open to this and you see that you have a
- 30:49spiritual enemy that is not looking for your good, but God
- 30:52is out for your good. And God has this wonderful
- 30:56inheritance planned for you in the end, but you need to wake up
- 31:01and get rid of the enemy before you can experience God.
- 31:06And, and there's just so much kind of deception that the enemy
- 31:11gives people. And it's all in the Bible.
- 31:15So when you read the Bible, you'll find out that what I'm
- 31:17saying is true. And hopefully if you've been
- 31:22manipulated, you can change that today and ask God to be asked
- 31:28Jesus to be your savior, savior and ask for the Holy Spirit.
- 31:32Turn away from all the stuff that the enemy was leading you
- 31:36into, that's not right, that God doesn't agree with.
- 31:39And just return to God and God will.
- 31:43God will do what needs to be done.
- 31:45And God is good. He's always good.
- 31:49And I guess that's really all I have to say.
- 31:51Oh, there's like questions and answers.
- 31:53I'm going to read through those for chapter 1 and let's see.
- 32:02OK, I'll read through that and then we'll wrap up.
- 32:04So how can God hate? Hate is used here as a covenant
- 32:08term to contrast it with God's loyal love for Jacob, who was
- 32:13chosen to be the instrument of redemption.
- 32:18Esau and Jacob were twins of Isaac and grandsons of Abraham.
- 32:24Only one of them could provide the family line through which
- 32:29the Messiah would come. The point of this verse is
- 32:32primarily that God chose or He made a covenant with Jacob, not
- 32:37Esau, for that special role. And you can go to Genesis
- 32:42chapter 28 verses 10 through 22 and Romans Chapter 9 verses 10
- 32:47through 16 to read more about that.
- 32:50Who was Edom? Edom was the nation that
- 32:53descended from Esau, the twin brother of Jacob.
- 32:57You can read about that in Genesis 25 verses 19 through 34.
- 33:01Jacob and Esau were rivals as brothers and their descendants
- 33:05continued to compete as nations. Edom occupied the mountainous
- 33:11region of the Dead Sea. Why would God destroy Edom?
- 33:16Even a God of love will act in judgement against an evil
- 33:20nation. When people like the Edomites
- 33:23deliberately continue to reject God's ways, they inevitably end
- 33:28up in ruin. Was Edom's behavior any worse
- 33:32than Israel's? Israel sometimes behaved as
- 33:36wickedly as Edom, but Israel also periodically reported and
- 33:41returned to God. Malachi wanted Israel to grasp
- 33:45that God's love for Israel was undeserved.
- 33:50Was there any way for Edom to repent and be forgiven?
- 33:53The Bible teaches that any Sinner who repents will be
- 33:57forgiven. However, Edom consistently
- 34:01defied defied the Lord's ways without relenting or giving any
- 34:07indication of repentance. Even when God crushed the
- 34:11nation, Edom rose up in defiance to rebuild.
- 34:15God finally destroyed Edom completely.
- 34:19How do we bring blemished offerings to God?
- 34:23A blemished offering is something less than a full,
- 34:27complete offering, like giving God only an hour on Sunday
- 34:30morning and then following our own desires the rest of the
- 34:34week. The blemished offerings,
- 34:36condemned by the prophets long ago are still a problem for
- 34:41God's people today. They just look a little
- 34:43different. Why would God prefer no offering
- 34:47to a blemished? 1A person's offering reveals the
- 34:51person's attitude toward God offering God a second.
- 34:55Offering God's second rate goods when we have first rate goods to
- 35:00offer indicates we don't think much of God.
- 35:04Has this prophecy been fulfilled?
- 35:06Yes and no, because even in Malachi's day, some Gentiles who
- 35:11weren't expected to offered more sincere worship than many
- 35:16apathetic Israelites. And no, because we still wait
- 35:20for the whole world to worship the living God.
- 35:24How does God curse? Sometimes God brings
- 35:26catastrophe. Other times he lets disobedient
- 35:30people experiences the consequences of their ungodly
- 35:33choices. We reap what we sow Galatians 6
- 35:38chapter or chapter 6 verses 7 through 8.
- 35:41So that will wrap up Malachi one.
- 35:44And if you found this beneficial, please share it with
- 35:47others. If you have not subscribed,
- 35:49please do so as we cover a chapter a day as often as
- 35:53possible. And thank you for listening.
