- 0:06You're listening to Speaking of Supply Chain, a meboch podcast. This is a
- 0:10show for logistics professionals looking to learn more about the latest innovations in supply chain.
- 0:16Each episode will feature a conversation on topics such as mitigating supply chain disruption
- 0:20and reducing risk, current automation trends, sustainability initiatives, and more. Let's
- 0:26dive right in. Hello, and welcome to Speaking of Supply Chain, where
- 0:34we explore trends, current events, and innovations impacting the logistics and supply chain
- 0:38industries. I'm your host, Ellen Wood. It is that time of year
- 0:41again, and by that I mean it's the beginning of the year and we
- 0:45are planning out what we're going to be doing throughout the year, and that
- 0:48includes trade shows and conferences. So we're going to do a rundown of the
- 0:53logistics and supply chain trade shows and conferences that have come across my desk in
- 0:59some way, shape or form that you may be interested in, whether to
- 1:03attend, maybe to exhibit, maybe you're going to be looking for some solutions
- 1:07this year. But we've got a list of almost thirty this year that I'm
- 1:11going to go through very quickly. So even though it is just me today,
- 1:15sorry no guests, I'm still going to do are getting to know you
- 1:19little segment that is exclusive to our video subscribers. Although because it is just
- 1:26me, I will say let's go ahead and have this be part of our
- 1:30audio version as well. So audio listeners out there, if this is new
- 1:34to you, if it's something that you like, keep in mind we do
- 1:38a getting to know you section an icebreaker with all of our guests that is
- 1:42usually only available on our video content on YouTube. So if this is something
- 1:47you like, be sure to go there and check it out. So I
- 1:49asked one of our listeners today if they had a question for me to get
- 1:53to know me a little bit better, and the question was, what is
- 1:56the best professional development book you've ever read? So the best one that I
- 2:00have read that was really impactful for me is a book that came out almost
- 2:05thirty years ago, now it's been a while. It is called Gung Ho.
- 2:08And if you've read this book, you know exactly what I'm talking about
- 2:13when I say that this is just a really lighthearted and fun book that gets
- 2:17to some very very deep perspectives and feelings about the way we approach our professional
- 2:24lives and getting excited and just ready for the work that we have to do.
- 2:30The book is by Ken Blanchard and Sheldon Bowles. I'm looking at it
- 2:34on Amazon right now, and I remember one of the things that really stood
- 2:38out to me, and I think about it very frequently. So this book
- 2:40goes through three different sections. There's the Spirit of the squirrel, the Way
- 2:46of the Beaver, and the Gift of the goose, And by using animals
- 2:51and their different mannerisms, it kind of explains how we should approach different aspects
- 2:54of our work. And I remember one of the excerpts from the book talks
- 2:59about this person was talking with someone and trying to coach her professionally and asked
- 3:04what kind of work they had done before, and they said, oh,
- 3:07I only worked in food service, doing dishes as a dishwasher in college at
- 3:13the food hall. And the person interviewing them and trying to coach and guide
- 3:17them, said, why do you say only That's a very important job.
- 3:21If you didn't show up to work that day, there might not have been
- 3:23enough clean dishes for everyone. If you didn't do a good job at your
- 3:28job every day, they would not have had clean and sanitized dishes, and
- 3:31so you helped make sure that everyone had a chance to eat. You made
- 3:36sure they were able to do it safely. And you should not look down
- 3:38on your job just because you consider it to be menial or blue collar,
- 3:43or whatever connotation that individual had that they were looking at their profession or this
- 3:49particular position with some sort of disdain. Every position has a value and it
- 3:53has a need. So that really stuck with me through a lot of times
- 3:58where I was doing something that I felt have been beneath my capabilities to make
- 4:02sure that I was bringing my best to that job every day, even if
- 4:05it wasn't my dream job, but also in jobs that I really love when
- 4:11you get to the hard parts, just keeping in mind that there is value
- 4:14to it, there is something important to it, and it wouldn't exist if
- 4:17there wasn't. So it's a great book. I highly recommend it if you
- 4:20haven't read it. It's quick read, it's not a huge lift, So
- 4:25that is one that I would recommend. That's the best professional development book I've
- 4:28ever read, and I read it over twenty five years ago, So that
- 4:30was a lot of fun. All right. Now that we are officially in
- 4:33twenty twenty four. Happy New year everyone. Let's take a look at some
- 4:38of these events. So when it comes to trade shows, there's one coming
- 4:42up very quickly and that is the same as the first one we talked about
- 4:45last year. That is Manifest the Future of Supply Chain and Logistics Manifest Vegas.
- 4:49So this is taking place in Las Vegas and that is February fifth through
- 4:54the seventh, and it's a great trade show for the f future focused and
- 5:00really it areas so all of the digital capabilities, this is their place to
- 5:05shine. This show has grown significantly since last year. I know they've added
- 5:10an extra haul just for all the exhibitors. There's over four thousand attendees.
- 5:15There are over one thousand startups and investors at this fifteen hundred shippers, two
- 5:20hundred and fifty speakers at this event, and over fifty companies represented. So
- 5:27it's going to be a fantastic show. They are geared toward industry executives,
- 5:32entrepreneurs and those investors who want to come and invest in this new technology and
- 5:36these new innovations in supply chain technology and automation. So if that sounds like
- 5:42a show for you, by all means book your plane ticket fast. At
- 5:45Caesar's Forum, I know they still have some rooms available, but Meebok will
- 5:48be there. If you'd like to see us, we will be at Manifest.
- 5:51By the way, I do want to pause for a moment in this
- 5:55list of shows. All of these shows are going to be available through a
- 5:59link that is in the description of the podcast. Wherever you're listening to it,
- 6:02there's a link that will get you to where I have links to each
- 6:05and every single one of these shows. If you would like to go register
- 6:08for them, but also if there are discounts available discount registration, early bird
- 6:13things, discounts that are available, or if you need any additional information or
- 6:16want to see who those exhibitors are. I'll mention if me Bach is exhibiting
- 6:21it these if I know it, and others we may be exhibiting later.
- 6:25I haven't made all the decisions for this year, all right. The next
- 6:28one is the Retail Industry Leaders Association RelA RelA link and this is their supply
- 6:34chain conference. Now this conference is a little bit different in that this is
- 6:39for the industry leaders for the Retail Association, so you have to be a
- 6:43member of the Retail Leaders Association in order to attend. If you are a
- 6:46supply chain person, you can't just attend, sorry, you have to exhibit.
- 6:50But for all of our listeners who may just be industry professionals in the
- 6:56retail industry, this is a great conference. There is a whole lot that
- 7:00takes place. So this conference is at the end of February, the twenty
- 7:03fifth through the twenty eighth. That's in Dallas at the I believe it's at
- 7:08the Gaylord this year, and there are some great speakers that are going to
- 7:12be there. We've got some speakers from Nordstrom, from Ikea, from Meiman
- 7:16Marcus, and Walmart. And there's over two thousand supply chain leaders that are
- 7:21going to be there in the retail sector. So that's not even just supply
- 7:25chain, that's retail supply chain, very very specific. One hundred speakers,
- 7:29fifty breakout sessions, and over three hundred and fifty solution providers in the expo
- 7:33hall. Some great information there at that conference, and I know that they're
- 7:39steering committee works very very hard to make sure that all of the content that
- 7:43they have for their various tracks for all of the sessions is super honed into
- 7:48what is currently affecting the retail industry. I know we've talked on a couple
- 7:53other episodes about what's going on in terms of e commerce, in terms of
- 7:58returns, management, sustainability, all of these issues that retailers have to deal
- 8:03with in order to supply their own customers. So again a great conference.
- 8:07The big one, or I should say the two big ones. The next
- 8:11two are big Modex. Modex is taking place in Atlanta. This is the
- 8:16counterpart to PROMAT which took place last year, put on by MHI, and
- 8:22it is going to be March eleventh through the fourteenth, and that's at the
- 8:24Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. This is the largest supply chain conference in
- 8:31North America. It is huge. I love going there every year. It
- 8:35is just the quintessential huge trade show. But there's also so many educational sessions.
- 8:41There's some great keynotes taking place. The one that I am looking forward
- 8:45to the most is honestly the keynote from Jeremy Renner. I'm excited to go
- 8:50see that one. But there are over one hundred and fifty expert led seminars,
- 8:54there's show floor speeches, there's of course all of the vendors that you
- 8:58could possibly hope to connect with exhibiting at this particular event. Mieboch is also
- 9:05exhibiting at this event. But the great thing about this particular event is there
- 9:09is no cost to attend, So this is free to attend and the registration
- 9:13link again will be in the description the next one. So this is taking
- 9:18us over across the pond to Logimat and this is one of the larger logistics
- 9:26exhibitions in Europe. It is taking place March nineteenth through twenty first at the
- 9:31Stuttgart Trade Fair Center. Mieboch will also be participating there. Our European contingent
- 9:37will be in force at that show. But again this is intralogistics solutions and
- 9:41process management. All of the live demonstrations, all of the educational sessions,
- 9:46and again meeting with all of these vendors. So these are the two biggest
- 9:50events in North America and Europe taking place this year. You can't miss these.
- 9:56These are the biggest ones to go to. That's where you're going to
- 9:58get the most bang for you travel buck by visiting the place where all the
- 10:03people are at the same time. All right, moving in to April,
- 10:07all right. I have to translate this page because this is in Spanish.
- 10:11This is the Logistics World Summit and Expo and it is taking place April tenth
- 10:16and eleventh in Mexico City. Miebach will be at this particular show too.
- 10:22We do have an educational session. But this is the largest logistics expo in
- 10:26Mexico and Central America. They've got over thirty two thousand square meters of exhibition
- 10:33space, so this is an absolutely massive show and over fifteen countries participating,
- 10:41over five hundred and fifty exhibitors. This is another one of those big shows.
- 10:43So if you are a listener from our Central or South American area,
- 10:48this would be a great show for you to consider. I know I had
- 10:52to translate it to Spanish in order to read it, but I know that
- 10:56the content on the show floor is going to take place both in Spanish as
- 11:00well as in English. Moving through April, we have the Quartz Network,
- 11:03Supply Chain and Logistics Summit April twenty first through the twenty third at the Aria
- 11:09Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, very cool hotel. I've stayed there myself.
- 11:13This one is so I've talked about the Quartz Network with John Cooin,
- 11:18one of our guests a few episodes back, and that was talking about this
- 11:22digital platform, this supply Chain Scope. Supply Chain Event is the in person
- 11:26version of this, so it's curated meetings, meeting with exactly who it is
- 11:31that you're trying to find solutions from. They do a great job of essentially
- 11:37being a concierge and setting up all of the time that you're going to be
- 11:41there or most of the time that you're going to be there speaking with the
- 11:43people that you need to speak with, So it cuts out a lot of
- 11:46the noise. If you're like me, you like the noise and you like
- 11:50seeing all the hustle and bustle and the variety. But if you are really
- 11:52looking to hone in on finding the solution that you were looking for, this
- 11:58is one of the best events for it because it is so tailored to your
- 12:01precise needs and there is a lengthy i would say registration process or intake process,
- 12:09because you have to get specific about what it is that you're looking to
- 12:13achieve by attending this meeting. It's taking place in Las Vegas, as I
- 12:16said at the end of April, So if this is something that you're interested
- 12:20in and really finding some of those solutions very quickly and cutting through the noise.
- 12:24You need to reach out to scope fast. It sells out. The
- 12:28next one, also in Las Vegas that we are going to talk about is
- 12:33Inspire Inspire twenty four and this is put on by Coopa. And normally when
- 12:37people think of Coopa, they think of the procurement software, and that is
- 12:43absolutely a major part of the Inspire conference. But Coopa also has a large
- 12:48supply chain planning and design software following from when they acquired Lamasoft, So there's
- 12:56a lot of supply chain planning, a lot of educational sessions. So this
- 13:01conference it has an expo floor where exhibitors can come out and exhibit that this
- 13:05is really a conference that is designed to help their users, so the platform
- 13:09users to understand and get the best out of the Koopa products. So if
- 13:16you are a Koopa user, you definitely need to be attending Inspire. It
- 13:20is absolutely worthwhile. It is taking place in again at the Aria Resort in
- 13:26Las Vegas April twenty second and twenty fourth. So it looks like, oh,
- 13:30it's going to overlap with quarts. You might have to make a couple
- 13:33hard decisions there or since it's the same hotel, just go back and forth
- 13:37between the two floors. I don't know that might work. Next up,
- 13:41we have the IWLA Convention in Expo and that is April twenty first through the
- 13:46twenty third in Orlando, so separate area. You can't jump into this one
- 13:52accidentally from the others. If you've never attended an IWLA convention, now is
- 13:58the time, as says, unique opportunities and connections. So this is for
- 14:05warehousing, So this is the resource for warehousing and logistics their expo. I
- 14:09have not been honestly, I have not been to this particular one, but
- 14:15it is a fantastic event from all of the people that I have spoken with
- 14:20that have been to these particular events. If you are involved in warehousing distribution
- 14:26center operations, this is where you can go to really understand what is driving
- 14:31your industry right now and making the largest impacts into the work that you do
- 14:37day to day. There's going to be insights on best practices. Labor is
- 14:43a huge issue for the warehousing industry right now. Transportation, dealing with all
- 14:48of the inbound and outbound and then also within those four walls, the automation
- 14:54that is going to make the difference to your operations. Next, we are
- 14:58almost halfway through. We've got at the end of April, from April thirtieth
- 15:03to May first, the American Supply Chain Summit. This is taking place in
- 15:07Dallas. This is put on by the Gennariess Group. They have some really
- 15:11exciting looking speakers at this event. I was looking at this earlier. So
- 15:16they've got the VP of Planning and Logistics from Kimberly Clark. They've got I
- 15:22love this. I love that this is such a specific title. So the
- 15:26VP and head and Procurement for ice cream from Unilever. That sounds like such
- 15:31a fun job. I want to go to this event just to listen to
- 15:33her and see what she has to say ice cream. That sounds like a
- 15:39fantastic job. And then of course there's also the VP of Operations for Transportation
- 15:43and Innovation at Walmart, another big one, so if you want to be
- 15:50there with all of the major players. So we're talking enterprise level supply chains,
- 15:56and these are the supply chains that are making the trends. They are
- 16:00the trend setters, and these are the ones that everyone else is going to
- 16:03have to follow at some point in time in the near future. So if
- 16:07you want to get in on what these trend setters are doing, what things
- 16:11are moving their needle, then you need to be at this particular show.
- 16:15Some of the featured attendees, We've got three m Adidas, Coca Cola,
- 16:18Johnson and Johnson, Procter and Gamble, Pepsi, Coo, Nestle, Campbell's
- 16:23Laoreal, Starbucks Home Depot, and more, a whole lot of huge brands.
- 16:30So this is where you would go to be able to network with those
- 16:33particular individuals. All right, moving into May, we've got the Gartner Supply
- 16:38Chain Symposium in Orlando, Florida, from May sixth through the eighth. The
- 16:42Gartner conferences are second to none. They are absolutely fantastic. Again, this
- 16:48is enterprise level supply chain leaders who are coming together for this conference to understand
- 16:56what impacts their industry and what trends are coming through and what they need to
- 17:02be doing or what trends they are setting for other industries or other industry players.
- 17:07So it's fantastic for chief supply chain officers, heads of supply chain planning,
- 17:11sourcing, and procurement, manufacturing. This is all of the network that
- 17:18you need to have. Some of the tracks at the Gartner conference include leadership,
- 17:22strategy and execution planning, Manufacturing, technology, sustainability, which is a
- 17:29huge topic going forward, industrial manufacturing, healthcare and life sciences. There's a
- 17:34lot going on there, and of course retail and consumer packaged goods. The
- 17:38agenda is live now for that particular event, and I know that there is
- 17:45a discount code available for you in the link that is in the description for
- 17:48today's episode, So be sure to go there and get that if you would
- 17:52like to attend Gartner in May. All right, here is another one that
- 17:57I am not personally familiar with. I would love to go sometime, but
- 18:02it's a bucket list definitely. So this is Logisim. It is in May
- 18:07May fifteenth through the sixteenth. It's in Singapore, and this particular event is
- 18:14dealing with supply chain agility, sustainability, digitalization, and artificial intelligence. This
- 18:19sounds like a fantastically interesting conference. Again, I have not been there,
- 18:26but it looks like from the networking opportunities some of the agenda things that there
- 18:32are going to be a ton of insights that can be gleaned from this particular
- 18:37event I'm looking through. I apologize I don't know any of these speakers,
- 18:42but I'm sure, Oh, here we go. The vice president at SMP
- 18:47Global Market Intelligence. So this is really some high level executives that are going
- 18:52to be at this particular event. I'd love to go to Singapore and walk
- 18:57that show. That looks fun. Next up, May is busy. From
- 19:03the twenty second through the twenty third. We've got Supply Chain USA back on
- 19:07American soil. This is put on by Reuter's Events. Again, this is
- 19:12one of these executive conferences. That's I guess the month of May is made
- 19:17for executive conferences. Unfortunately, you can't possibly attend all of them, so
- 19:22pick one that speaks to you and that you think might work for you.
- 19:25Maybe it's the location that decides which one you'll attend. But the Supply Chain
- 19:30USA is a fantastic event. Again, it's not one that I have been
- 19:36able to add to my agenda, but I've looked at it every year and
- 19:41thought, gosh, I need to be there. So as we're talking about
- 19:45risk and planning and integrated logistics, that's what their focus is going to be
- 19:49at this year's event. They've got some great speakers that are lined up for
- 19:55this year's event, from Mars, from Danen, Unilever, let's see who
- 20:00else, Pepsi co all to Beauty, L'Oreal, Bear, General Mills,
- 20:04and more. There's so many speakers that are going to be at this particular
- 20:08event. There are going to be tons of C level and director level attendees
- 20:15there for networking. So if that is your goal in terms of attending some
- 20:19of these conferences, this is a great networking event. You're going to come
- 20:25into contact with all types of supply chain leaders across so many industries and so
- 20:30many brands that you're going to recognize immediately if you come to this website.
- 20:34But as we look at some of the breakdowns of this community, thirty percent
- 20:38of these attendees are involved with planning, thirty percent involved with sourcing and manufacturing,
- 20:44thirty percent with distribution and logistics, and twenty five percent twenty percent director.
- 20:51Okay, so we're looking at sixty five percent of the attendees our director,
- 20:56vice president or C suite. That is a great network working opportunity if
- 21:00you are in that particular demographic. Moving on, the Warehousing, Educational and
- 21:07Resource Council Annual Conference, This is also part of MHI. They are having
- 21:12their annual conference June second through the fifth in Dallas, Texas, and this
- 21:18is one that I believe Miebak is going to be participating in. The decision
- 21:22hasn't been made yet, but the work that work is doing is really impactful
- 21:30for this particular segment of the industry. So when it comes to again the
- 21:34facilities, the warehousing, the distribution centers, this is where the MHI group
- 21:41comes in and really supports that sector of their membership. Some of the extras
- 21:47that they have with this particular one, they do have facility tours, so
- 21:51the Steers Facility Tour. If you attend the conference, you have the option
- 21:55of registering for the again optional facility tour. And this one they don't have
- 22:03who it's going to be at. They just have the date, so the
- 22:06date's going to be in the middle of the conference. I wish they had
- 22:08who they were going to be last year they did forget who it was.
- 22:12But I love the idea of taking time away from the conference from the whether
- 22:18it's in a hotel room or an expo center and that big windowless hall that
- 22:23we end up spending our day and actually going out to a local warehouse.
- 22:30Those tours are huge. They are such learning experiences. So anytime there's a
- 22:34conference that offers that type of add on as part of the registration, I
- 22:40always try to sign up for that because that's where you're really going to see.
- 22:44It's great to be on a sales floor. I'm in marketing, I
- 22:47get it, we want to show our best foot but when you are going
- 22:52into a facility and see it in action, that makes all the difference in
- 22:55the world, and it is absolutely huge. So if you were in the
- 22:57warehousing industry and are looking for an event sometime in the middle of the year,
- 23:03this is the one I would recommend. Immediately after that, if you
- 23:07can book the flight the ASCM so the Association for Supply Chain Management Connect twenty
- 23:11four in Europe, hop over to Brussels and you'll be able to attend the
- 23:18ASCM Connect. So again, this is an educational resource. Just like the
- 23:22work conference. This is educational based a lot of ongoing education. Some of
- 23:30the tracks this year are stability, resilience, and agility. We're going to
- 23:33hear those words a lot today. I think talent leadership and transformation. That's
- 23:38one of the great things about these events that are put on by the educational
- 23:41research councils type things is that they focus a lot on developing your internal resources,
- 23:51so your people, and making sure that your people are getting the ongoing
- 23:55education that is going to make the biggest impact in this professional development. Digital
- 24:02capabilities, technologies and enablers. We're not going to get away from digital sorry,
- 24:07and sustainability, circularity and climate again big topics on the agendas for this
- 24:12year, and that is in Brussels in Belgium June fourth through the fifth.
- 24:18All right back to North America, the Canada Logistics Conference. This one is
- 24:25taking place this year in Halifax June fifth through the seventh. So get your
- 24:30frequent flyer miles, so you're going back and forth and back and forth.
- 24:33And this is a thought leadership and networking event and early bird registration is already
- 24:38open. I know they are still soliciting exhibitors if this is something that you
- 24:42might be interested in participating as an exhibitor rather than just an attendee. But
- 24:48when it comes to thought leadership, I'm scrolling through the website right now and
- 24:52there are dozens of speakers. I see a lot of C suite individuals,
- 25:00not that many that I am familiar with, because I have a feeling that
- 25:03they tried to keep it mainly Canadians and Canadian organizations which I'm less familiar with
- 25:11being in the US. But tons of sponsors and exhibitors. This looks like
- 25:15a fantastic event. Again, I have not participated in this one before,
- 25:18but I know that they are still accepting exhibitors if you would like to participate
- 25:26in that event as an exhibitor or a sponsor. All right, again,
- 25:30we're just zigzagging between Europe and North America. Here in June, June tenth
- 25:34through the twelfth, in Barcelona, Spain, we have the Gartner Supply Chain
- 25:40Symposium for EMEA. So again we spoke about the Gartner Supply Chain Symposium in
- 25:45North America. It is exactly the same content, perhaps a little bit skewed
- 25:51towards the issues that are facing Europe that are not present in the Americas.
- 25:55And this is an event that Mibachi usually participates in. I believe we are
- 26:00this year, but again talking to those heads of manufacturing, those supply chain
- 26:04executives about the biggest things happening in those enterprise level supply chains. One of
- 26:11My favorite things about at least the US event, and I know that it
- 26:15is also a highlight of their other events, is their top ten list or
- 26:21their top twenty five list. Obviously, if you are a Gartner client,
- 26:23then you're familiar with their magic quadrants, with some of their reports that they
- 26:27have about the industry and about the technologies and the services and a lot of
- 26:33the things that are available out there. The top twenty five list for supply
- 26:37chain is the highlight for the attendees and the exhibitors alike. There's a big
- 26:42dinner and they go through the top twenty five list, and it's such an
- 26:48exciting thing to see these supply chains and hear about what they've done to rank
- 26:55in the top twenty five of all the supply chains in the world or all
- 26:59the supply fly chains in that particular area, and really just come together and
- 27:04celebrate the achievements of these particular companies and see how it is that they are
- 27:08moving the supply chain industry forward. We talked about the ASCM in Brussels,
- 27:15their US event, so their North American event takes place in September. We
- 27:19skipped over July and August. Nothing is happening in July and August. I
- 27:23guess that's when we're supposed to take our vacations. Noted in September the ninth
- 27:29through the eleventh in Austin, Texas is the ASCM Connect for North America.
- 27:34Again, this is educational based, so the Association for Supply Chain Management.
- 27:40There's going to be a lot on stability, resilience and agility, talent leadership
- 27:45and transformation, digital capabilities, technologies and enablers, and then the sustainability,
- 27:51circularity and climate. So some great areas for your team to learn more about
- 27:56the industry and the trends and shoes that are impacting it. From September eighth
- 28:03through the eleventh, we have from Richmond Events, the Logistics and Supply Chain
- 28:08Forum, and this is taking place in Scottsdale, Arizona. Again that was
- 28:12September eighth and the tenth. So at the same time as ASCM, I
- 28:15think you have to choose one or the other. This one is more geared
- 28:18towards those C suite, those higher level executives. And this is a platform.
- 28:26It really is not a trade show. This is a conference, so
- 28:30this is learning, This is educational sessions, this is keynotes, and this
- 28:33is networking. This is a lot of networking. It's a blend of conference
- 28:40sessions and pre scheduled meetings. So again similar to the SCOPE event that we
- 28:44talked about earlier, where they curate meetings with some of the exhibitors or suppliers.
- 28:48It's designed to help you find solutions, whether through an educational session,
- 28:53through a conference session, through a roundtable discussion, or through these curated meetings.
- 28:59I have not participated in one of these Richmond events, but I have
- 29:02heard from others who have that it is absolutely fantastic material and very topical and
- 29:08very well presented material. So if you are looking for a networking and educational
- 29:15event in September, because I know the first half of the year is very
- 29:21busy and we can't get to all of these events, so if you need
- 29:23to push one off towards the second half of the year, this would be
- 29:26a great one. Another one that we have September sixteenth through eighteenth, and
- 29:33this is the North American Supply Chain Executive Summit, and this is taking place
- 29:37in Phoenix. Apparently September is a great month to be in Arizona. Who
- 29:41knew, I'll bet the people in Arizona NOU. So this again is one
- 29:45of these supply chain executive conferences and summits. So some of the things that
- 29:52are going to be on their agenda this year, We're talking about supply chain
- 29:55optimization, We're talking about globalizing distribution channels, risk management in a world of
- 30:02disruption. We've talked about that on this podcast before, Forecasting supplier relationships,
- 30:07managing a dynamic workforce, talent acquisition, development and retention, new and emerging
- 30:14tools and technologies, and of course sustainability. That's going to be a huge
- 30:18topic this year, I'm certain. So this is they call it bringing together
- 30:22the who's who of industry experts. So again this is another one of those
- 30:26executive conferences that if you fall into that demographic, this is one of those
- 30:32networking opportunities for you to get together with other peers in your industry and really
- 30:37talk back and forth and meet with those individuals whom maybe have some similar experiences
- 30:45or some great insights to share. All Right, we're coming back to Gartner
- 30:48one more time. They are having their Gartner Supply Chain Planning Summit October fourteenth
- 30:56and fifteenth in London. This is one that I don't know if Mebuck is
- 31:00participating in We have not had the opportunity before, but we do have a
- 31:04location in London, so it's possible. But the supply chain Planning is a
- 31:08little bit different than the symposium. Just because it's a smaller scale, that
- 31:12doesn't mean it is less impactful at all. This conference is still talking about
- 31:18all of the important things in the supply chain industry and for those executive leaders,
- 31:23so we're talking about demand, supply and product portfolio planning, say that
- 31:30three times, fast planning, strategies, sales and operation planning and sales and
- 31:34operation execution, leveraging advanced technology and AI, and supply chain planning, talent
- 31:41and culture. I'm seeing a lot more of the talent and personnel and labor
- 31:48focus in some of these shows where they're really trying to develop our teams that
- 31:53we already have existing because the labor constraints and the issues affecting the labor industry
- 31:59are so so labor in our industry are such a topic, such a big
- 32:04topic and such a disruptive topic that we have to work on developing the teams
- 32:10that we have so we don't lose them and we don't have to replace them.
- 32:13Because replacing them is so difficult these days, so planning and developing the
- 32:17talent. But also it's interesting that they bring culture into this because that is
- 32:22becoming even more of an issue in this post COVID world when work situations are
- 32:30often hybrid and culture is starting to I wouldn't say fall to the wayside,
- 32:36but it's getting harder and harder to maintain and existing culture. It has to
- 32:40shift a little bit with the workforce that we have. But being able to
- 32:45develop and nurture a culture within your organization, that's getting to be a larger
- 32:50topic. It's not a top level topic yet, but it's eking up there.
- 32:53It's moving all right. Three more, we're down to the last three
- 33:00Pack Expo. If you have not heard of Pack Expo, they have multiple
- 33:02shows. I'm only going to talk about the international one right now, but
- 33:06I'm going to mention the others. So the International Pack Expo takes place November
- 33:09third through the sixth in Chicago at McCormick Place. When looking at some of
- 33:15the information about this, this is a huge, huge, huge show,
- 33:23I believe when I looked at this earlier, it takes four different show floors
- 33:31at McCormick Place. If you're familiar with McCormick place. It is a huge,
- 33:36huge exhibition space, and this particular expo takes four of their show floors,
- 33:40so you have to go out and go on to another show floor just
- 33:44to get to them. It would take you all, is it? Three
- 33:46days? Four days? All three days to see all of the things.
- 33:51And even then, I don't think you could have any meaningful conversations if you
- 33:53were just trying to go up and down every aisle and meet every exhibitor.
- 33:59But when it comes to to this particular we've got the processing zone, the
- 34:02logistics pavilion, the Containers and Materials Pavilion, the package printing pavilion, the
- 34:08healthcare packaging pavilion, the reusable packaging pavilion, and the ooh, the confectionery
- 34:15pavilion. That sounds yummy. So in terms of this particular event, obviously
- 34:22it's all about packaging, and packaging is required for consumer package goods, but
- 34:27even any other industry that is trying to package their products for distribution. And
- 34:31they have other shows. This is the international event. It's the largest of
- 34:36them. They have one in Las Vegas for the West Coast. They have
- 34:39one in Philadelphia for the east coast. They have one in Mexico. They
- 34:44have one in the southeast in Atlanta, and one in Guadalajara, Mexico.
- 34:49So so many to choose from. If you can't make the one in November,
- 34:52I understand, plus it's a lot to deal with. But if you
- 34:55can make it to the west, East, or southeast, those might be
- 35:00great events that are a little bit closer to you. They also are spread
- 35:02out in other areas of the calendar for this year, So pack Expo a
- 35:08great event. I don't believe that Miebok is exhibiting, but I know we
- 35:13are attending because it is such a fantastic event. From November twelfth through the
- 35:17fourteenth in Rotterdam, we have Intermodal Europe and so this particular one is new
- 35:24to my understanding this year. I've heard of it before, but I've never
- 35:30looked into it. So this particular event is for container shipping and intermodal transport.
- 35:35If transport is something that is on your agenda for dealing with or researching
- 35:39this year, this is a fantastic event. I know. I say that
- 35:43about all of these. I wouldn't talk about them if they weren't fantastic events.
- 35:46So this is Europe's leading event for the intermodal and container transport industry.
- 35:52It gets together all of that community and industry leading event. They come together
- 35:58to learn, network, collabor rate, and set the course for the future.
- 36:01So if transportation is part of your job title, especially international transportation or
- 36:07again the intermodal transportation, this would be a great event for you to attend.
- 36:13It looks like they are going to have some fantastic exhibitors. The sessions
- 36:19look interesting. They're going to talk about cold chain, They're going to talk
- 36:22about technology, the containers themselves, and transportation as well as tracking. So
- 36:28I highly recommend that if that is something that falls into your wheelhouse. All
- 36:34right, that is pretty much the end of supply chain conferences and trade shows.
- 36:40But I did want to mention one other and this is going to be
- 36:44specifically for me. I'm talking about this because this applies to myself, and
- 36:50that is the Global Supply Chain Marketing Summit. So this is an event that
- 36:55kicked off it's inaugural event last year and it is takeing place June fifth through
- 37:00the seventh. But it is specifically this is not for just supply chain professionals.
- 37:06This is for a very specific sector of supply chain professionals. This is
- 37:09for supply chain marketing professionals. And this was part of my professional development last
- 37:15year. It's going to be part of my professional development this year. It
- 37:19is an amazing event. This is put on by Supply Chain Brain and in
- 37:24partnership with Manifest and CSCMP. And the reason this is such an amazing event
- 37:32is marketing within the supply chain industry is its own animal. And for any
- 37:37of our listeners out there that happen to wear a marketing hat the same as
- 37:42I do, this is the event that you want to go to. This
- 37:45is obviously we're planning all these other events where we're doing the exhibiting, we're
- 37:50doing all of the the online planning and all of the other marketing strategies that
- 37:54we have for our companies. But when it comes to those strategies, what
- 37:59do we need to do to reach our audience? And this is geared specifically
- 38:01toward us and the needs that we have. So I wanted to make sure
- 38:06that I gave that a call out. I will be at this particular event
- 38:09this coming year. So if that's something that you are a marketing professional listening
- 38:14to this podcast, in the supply chain industry, I hope to see you
- 38:17there. If you have any questions about it, please feel free to reach
- 38:21out to me and I will give you even more detail about this particular event.
- 38:25But if you're in the supply chain industry and you know who Ralph Henderson
- 38:30is, I'll give him a quick shout out. Hey, Ralph. He
- 38:32is the one who had the concept for this particular event, and he's done
- 38:37an amazing job of curating all of the speakers and all of the guests and
- 38:44the panels that are helping to drive better marketing in our industry. All right,
- 38:52this is only a fraction of the supply chain and logistics conferences or expos
- 38:57I know that there are so many more out there because I saw them as
- 39:00I was researching and trying to figure out which ones to talk about, and
- 39:02I couldn't possibly list all of them here. We would be here all day.
- 39:07If you have information about another one that you think I should have mentioned
- 39:12or should be mentioned next here, or you just want to tell our listener
- 39:15community about this event, reach out to me at podcast at mebok dot com
- 39:20and I'll make a post on LinkedIn about it. If you have a suggestion
- 39:22for another topic that I should cover again, reach out to me at podcast
- 39:28at mebok dot com. We'd love to have any of you on the show
