- 0:00Speaker 1: Toby and Chili mornings on demand on 97.1 Wash FM.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Well, good morning and welcome to a brand new week
- 0:08Speaker 2: with Toby and Chili in the morning. It's 97.1 Wash FM.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Thank you so much for waking up with us. I
- 0:14Speaker 2: know Mondays are not always easy. But here we are,
- 0:17Speaker 2: and there's always a reason to feel good on a
- 0:19Speaker 2: day like today. Chili, why are you feeling good this
- 0:22Speaker 2: morning after a very busy weekend?
- 0:24Speaker 3: Well, it's not a holiday for us, but it is
- 0:26Speaker 3: a holiday for a lot of people, including my son
- 0:29Speaker 3: and my husband today.
- 0:30Speaker 2: All the feds.
- 0:31Speaker 3: So I am feeling good because... We're going to go
- 0:35Speaker 3: out to lunch as a family today.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Well, there you go. That's, that's what I'm talking about.
- 0:40Speaker 3: So after my little nap, we're going to go and
- 0:42Speaker 3: I don't know where we're going, but it doesn't matter.
- 0:44Speaker 3: It'd be fun. I was almost going to take today
- 0:45Speaker 3: off just so we could all three of us, whatever.
- 0:47Speaker 3: I was like, you know what?
- 0:48Speaker 2: Whatever.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Oh, that's fine. And by the way, I'm also feeling
- 0:51Speaker 3: good because on a holiday, we don't have meetings and such.
- 0:55Speaker 3: So we can get out of here.
- 0:56Speaker 2: There's nobody floating around the building on holiday days. I, I, uh, yeah.
- 1:01Speaker 2: I forget sometimes how much I enjoy actually coming and
- 1:04Speaker 2: working on these holidays. Right. But then again.
- 1:07Speaker 3: It's very productive.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Yeah. But you know what? It's quiet. And that's a
- 1:12Speaker 2: good thing. For me, the thrill and the happiness comes
- 1:16Speaker 2: in knowing that for the first time in what seems
- 1:18Speaker 2: like a month, my significant other's coming home for a
- 1:21Speaker 2: couple of days before guess where she has to go next? Japan.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Oh, my goodness.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Yeah. This is what happens when you hang with somebody
- 1:28Speaker 2: and you fall in love with somebody who has a
- 1:31Speaker 2: job that Well, I mean, it's cool. She could go
- 1:34Speaker 2: all over the world and I love travel. But, you know,
- 1:37Speaker 2: sometimes I wish she could spend a little bit more
- 1:39Speaker 2: time at home. But it does make the time that
- 1:41Speaker 2: we get to spend more special. And I'm looking forward
- 1:44Speaker 2: to that because I forget what she even looks like.
- 1:47Speaker 2: And I miss Kona, the dog. And I miss Nova,
- 1:50Speaker 2: the dog, who stays with her during the week now
- 1:53Speaker 2: for the most part. Yeah. I just miss.
- 1:57Speaker 4: I miss.
- 1:58Speaker 2: But I'm happy and I feel joy.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Enjoy your Indigenous Peoples Day, folks.
- 2:01Speaker 2: That's right, y'all. 866-927-4361 is the number if you're feeling
- 2:06Speaker 2: good this morning. In the meantime, hang out. There is
- 2:09Speaker 2: some news today we need to pass along to you.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Top Stories is at the top of the hour. What
- 2:14Speaker 2: can we expect this morning?
- 2:15Speaker 3: It's crazy to think that Halloween is just a couple
- 2:18Speaker 3: of weeks away. You know, candy prices are up 8%
- 2:21Speaker 3: since August. But shoppers aren't backing down. I've got more
- 2:26Speaker 3: on that story coming up in just a few minutes.
- 2:32Speaker 4: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 2:34Speaker 3: The president is facing bipartisan backlash over a deal to
- 2:37Speaker 3: let Russian diesel into the U.S. and global markets. He
- 2:42Speaker 3: says Russia will release 300,000 tons right away to ease
- 2:45Speaker 3: a fuel shortage. But critics say it's a lifeline for
- 2:48Speaker 3: Vladimir Putin. And Ukraine's President Zelensky calls it a, quote,
- 2:53Speaker 3: birthday gift. A 23-year-old D.C. man is going to be
- 2:57Speaker 3: spending 32 years in prison for a deadly shooting after
- 3:01Speaker 3: a 2021 flag football game. Prosecutors say Antonio Holly grabbed
- 3:06Speaker 3: a gun from a teammate's bag and fired 17 shots
- 3:09Speaker 3: at 26-year-old Aaron Wiggins moments after Wiggins scored a winning touchdown. Well,
- 3:15Speaker 3: the National Park Service has started a new round of
- 3:18Speaker 3: tree cutting at East Potomac Golf Links as the administration
- 3:22Speaker 3: moves ahead with a championship level course. More than 500
- 3:26Speaker 3: trees are slated to come down and preservation and cycling
- 3:30Speaker 3: groups question the approvals. Fairfax County's Virginia Task Force One
- 3:36Speaker 3: is in Panama right now, helping assess damage after Friday's
- 3:40Speaker 3: 7.7 magnitude earthquake. Meanwhile, the U.S. has pledged $ 5 million
- 3:45Speaker 3: in aid. The Washington Commanders and New York Giants played
- 3:50Speaker 3: to a 27-27 tie yesterday after quarterback Jaden Daniels went
- 3:55Speaker 3: down with 12 seconds left in overtime and Washington ran
- 3:59Speaker 3: out of time inside field goal range. And finally, Halloween
- 4:03Speaker 3: candy prices are up 8% since August, but shoppers aren't
- 4:08Speaker 3: backing down. The National Retail Federation expects Americans to spend
- 4:12Speaker 3: $ 4 billion on candy this year. Forecast today, partly cloudy
- 4:17Speaker 3: skies with highs around 73. Right now, 59 in Cabin John.
- 4:22Speaker 2: And that is the news on this Monday morning. A
- 4:27Speaker 2: holiday in this federal city for some, but not all.
- 4:30Speaker 2: 97.1 Wash FM. It's going to be a chilly in
- 4:33Speaker 2: the morning hangout, though, if you are starting your day
- 4:35Speaker 2: and you're feeling kind of crossed, perhaps a bit frustrated.
- 4:39Speaker 2: That you are up this morning making your way into work.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Know that you're not alone, number one. And number two,
- 4:44Speaker 2: you might really benefit from your morning mindset. Words that
- 4:49Speaker 2: might really inspire on this Monday morning. Good morning and
- 4:56Speaker 2: thanks for listening this early morning to the station that
- 4:59Speaker 2: plays Washington's variety of the 80s, 90s, and today. We're
- 5:02Speaker 2: Toby and Tilly in the morning at 97.1 Wash FM,
- 5:05Speaker 2: and it's time for us to talk about you. You
- 5:08Speaker 2: who are amongst the working or the living right about
- 5:11Speaker 2: now on a holiday Monday.
- 5:12Speaker 3: Yeah, so what is the quote you have found for
- 5:14Speaker 3: us to get us into a good headspace for the mindset?
- 5:17Speaker 2: It comes from his book, Atomic Habits. James Clear, the
- 5:19Speaker 2: author and motivational type guy, says, Goals are good for
- 5:25Speaker 2: setting a direction, but systems are best for making progress.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Goals are good for setting a direction, but systems are
- 5:37Speaker 2: best for making progress. See, there's something to be said
- 5:40Speaker 2: about a system, right? And you might trial and error
- 5:43Speaker 2: that system. Sometimes in the trial and error, you might
- 5:47Speaker 2: fail with that system. But what matters is that you're
- 5:50Speaker 2: working on putting a system in the place that's good
- 5:53Speaker 2: for you, that can augment goal setting, that can help
- 5:57Speaker 2: you to progress in whatever it is you're doing. So,
- 6:00Speaker 2: If they've been like, you need to think about streamlining
- 6:03Speaker 2: your system. If you've heard that before, well, there's something
- 6:06Speaker 2: to it. So try it and see if it does
- 6:09Speaker 2: help you move forward to be the person that you
- 6:11Speaker 2: want to be in work, life, and more. Goals are
- 6:14Speaker 2: good for setting a direction, James Clear says, but systems
- 6:18Speaker 2: are best for making progress. Keep that in mind on
- 6:22Speaker 2: a Monday morning and make it your secret weapon, your
- 6:24Speaker 2: advantage today as you get into this new week. And
- 6:28Speaker 2: stay with Toby and Chili in the morning because.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Amazon shoppers are freaking out and even laughing out loud
- 6:34Speaker 3: after they discovered just how personal the company's new feature
- 6:38Speaker 3: can get.
- 6:40Speaker 2: In a world full of so much data everywhere, I'm
- 6:43Speaker 2: kind of not surprised by this story here at 97.1
- 6:45Speaker 2: Watch FM with Toby and Chili and the one that
- 6:47Speaker 2: we're about to lay on you. Amazon shoppers, you have
- 6:50Speaker 2: a reason to be concerned, but maybe not too super
- 6:54Speaker 2: concerned because there's something that they've got on you that
- 6:59Speaker 2: you gave them.
- 7:00Speaker 3: Yeah, it's the about you feature and you can access it.
- 7:05Speaker 3: By going to your Amazon page, clicking on your profile,
- 7:08Speaker 3: and then looking for the About You section, they're building
- 7:11Speaker 3: data about you and your shopping habits, which makes sense
- 7:14Speaker 3: because you're on there to shop. So they're paying attention.
- 7:17Speaker 3: It's gone viral because of the funny things and kind
- 7:20Speaker 3: of shocking things people are finding about themselves. Like this
- 7:23Speaker 3: one woman said... That she's at Amazon, that she has
- 7:26Speaker 3: flat buttocks, maybe based on the certain clothes that she's buying, right?
- 7:31Speaker 3: I went on mine. Go on yours, okay? And while
- 7:33Speaker 3: you're looking at yours, I'm going to tell you some
- 7:35Speaker 3: of the things it knows about me. It knows I
- 7:38Speaker 3: have a husband and a school-aged child, okay? It knows
- 7:41Speaker 3: I have a dog because I... purchase things for the
- 7:43Speaker 3: dog it says i like to purchase appreciation gifts great
- 7:48Speaker 3: um here's what made me laugh though but then it
- 7:51Speaker 3: also made me go wait a minute it says the
- 7:54Speaker 3: customer's dog walks through the legs after she puts the
- 7:58Speaker 3: leash on The only way Amazon would know that is.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Because they're listening to your conversations via your Alexa home device.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 8:06Speaker 3: It is a conversation my husband and I have had
- 8:09Speaker 3: about our dog, Bella. It's a stupid, silly thing she
- 8:12Speaker 3: does when he puts the leash on her in the bedroom,
- 8:15Speaker 3: walks through the legs. That's not okay, dude.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Dude, you thought you were alone, but did you see
- 8:20Speaker 2: what they have up at the very top of that page?
- 8:23Speaker 2: Make Amazon even more personal to you. Your other AI
- 8:28Speaker 2: assistants have learned about you. Bring all that knowledge into
- 8:32Speaker 2: the flow for a more personalized experience. Now, Amazon, y'all
- 8:36Speaker 2: have enough. I don't need you to tell me that
- 8:39Speaker 2: I ordered cheese.
- 8:41Speaker 3: You like cheese. I like cheese. It's the stuff that
- 8:44Speaker 3: it eavesdrops on and throws in there that has nothing
- 8:47Speaker 3: to do with shopping that is personal. Absolutely crossing a line.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Prediction. This is going to be the subject of some
- 8:54Speaker 2: sort of action because I don't think people realize how
- 8:58Speaker 2: much data they're giving away. So I'll be in ChiliPage. WatchFM.com.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Stay there for the news coming up right around 6.10
- 9:06Speaker 2: this morning. Top stories at the top of the hour.
- 9:08Speaker 2: What's good?
- 9:09Speaker 3: There were a lot of fun surprises at the first
- 9:12Speaker 3: ever Savannah Banana Bowl at Nationals Park on Saturday. I've
- 9:17Speaker 3: got some more details on that coming up in just
- 9:19Speaker 3: a few minutes.
- 9:20Speaker 2: So, you know, you get your news top stories at
- 9:22Speaker 2: the top of the hour with 97.1 Wash FM. But

- 9:47Speaker 4: the hour.
- 9:48Speaker 3: The president says Russia and Ukraine have agreed to an
- 9:52Speaker 3: energy ceasefire. We've got the latest on that story and
- 9:56Speaker 3: others on the way. With Toby and Chili in the
- 9:58Speaker 3: morning on 97.1. on 97.1 wash fm.
- 10:04Speaker 4: Top stories top of the hour.
- 10:06Speaker 3: The president says russia and ukraine have agreed to an

- 10:23Speaker 3: The 71-year-old pontiff announced it yesterday, saying doctors found it
- 10:27Speaker 3: during recent tests. The head of D.C. 's Office on
- 10:31Speaker 3: Returning Citizens Affairs was killed Friday night in a scooter
- 10:34Speaker 3: crash in Southeast. 51-year-old Talib Shakir died after colliding with
- 10:39Speaker 3: another scooter, and police say he was not wearing a helmet.
- 10:43Speaker 3: A Clarksburg High School flag football player says she was
- 10:47Speaker 3: assaulted and targeted with racial slurs after a game at
- 10:50Speaker 3: Poolsville High on October 5th. The school says a parking
- 10:54Speaker 3: lot argument turned into a fight that involves students and adults.
- 10:59Speaker 3: TSA is going to be rolling out upgraded pre-check lanes
- 11:02Speaker 3: at seven airports over the next six weeks. They're going
- 11:06Speaker 3: to be using body scanners, facial matching, and automated bag screening.
- 11:10Speaker 3: And TSA says that they could double passenger throughput, but
- 11:15Speaker 3: the agency has not said which airports are going to
- 11:18Speaker 3: be getting them. The Washington Commanders and New York Giants
- 11:21Speaker 3: played to a 27-27 tie yesterday after both teams blew
- 11:27Speaker 3: their chances to win in overtime. And John Cena rolled
- 11:31Speaker 3: into Nationals Park on Saturday in a Humvee with a
- 11:35Speaker 3: full police escort to deliver the game ball for the
- 11:38Speaker 3: first ever Savannah Banana Bowl. And the Jonas Brothers also
- 11:42Speaker 3: made a surprise appearance. Forecast today, we'll have partly cloudy

- 11:51Speaker 2: Top stories at the top of the hour. Your next
- 11:54Speaker 2: news at 710-ish, 97.1 Watch FM. Toby and Tilly, in
- 11:59Speaker 2: the morning right now, though, if you want to see Journey,
- 12:02Speaker 2: thanks to AEG, we got your tickets. CFG Bank Arena
- 12:06Speaker 2: in Baltimore, October 24th.
- 12:08Speaker 5: 866-927-4361.
- 12:09Speaker 2: 10th caller right now. Journey tickets yours. You ever sing
- 12:12Speaker 2: in the shower? It's 97.1. Watch FM. Tell me you're
- 12:17Speaker 2: chilly in the morning. Perhaps maybe you do. Perhaps maybe
- 12:24Speaker 2: you did this morning. Or maybe you will when you
- 12:27Speaker 2: take a shower this morning because it's a holiday for you. Well,
- 12:29Speaker 2: Kelly Clarkson shared what her favorite song to sing in
- 12:33Speaker 2: the shower is. What's yours?
- 12:35Speaker 3: 866-927-4361.
- 12:35Speaker 2: We're talking. Are you one of these people who sings
- 12:42Speaker 2: in the shower? No harm, no foul if you do.
- 12:45Speaker 2: We're Toby and Chili in the morning at 866-927-4361. What
- 12:50Speaker 2: is it that you sing in the shower? Last week,
- 12:52Speaker 2: Kelly Clarkson on The Voice actually said that she sings
- 12:56Speaker 2: in the shower. She told us what song that she
- 12:59Speaker 2: just loves to sing while getting all sudsy. And it
- 13:02Speaker 2: made us think about songs that perhaps we sing and
- 13:05Speaker 2: you sing while you're getting yourself cleansed. clean in the morning.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Now if you want to know kelly's a go-to song
- 13:10Speaker 3: one of them is the bonnie rate song called love
- 13:12Speaker 3: me like a man so i had never heard of
- 13:16Speaker 3: that song well and even if i had that's not
- 13:18Speaker 3: the genre i typically go to when i'm in the
- 13:21Speaker 3: shower it's usually like musicals like theater or harry connick
- 13:26Speaker 3: jr's recipe for love somehow sounds good in the echo
- 13:30Speaker 3: of a bathroom.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Yes I wish that I had that problem at times.
- 13:34Speaker 2: When we were talking about this, I thought about it,
- 13:37Speaker 2: and I really don't have, like, one song that I
- 13:41Speaker 2: sing in the shower.
- 13:42Speaker 3: That you feel like you've mastered enough for the shower?
- 13:44Speaker 6: No?
- 13:44Speaker 3: Okay.
- 13:45Speaker 2: It could be anything. Like, this morning, for instance, it
- 13:48Speaker 2: was the song about... We've got to move these refrigerators.
- 13:54Speaker 2: We've got to move these color TVs. Who was that
- 13:58Speaker 2: by again? I forget.
- 13:59Speaker 3: Money for Nothing by Dire Straits.
- 14:01Speaker 2: That's right. Dire Straits is featured and heard on our
- 14:04Speaker 2: Best of the 80s and 90s weekends at 97.1. Watch
- 14:07Speaker 2: FM also streaming on your iHeart app. But it could
- 14:09Speaker 2: be anything. Tomorrow it'll be something else.
- 14:11Speaker 3: I think a lot of people have their go-to shower
- 14:13Speaker 3: song because of the acoustics and it makes them sound good.
- 14:18Speaker 3: You're just talking about what your brain is dumping.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it is. It is exactly what it is. My
- 14:23Speaker 2: brain is dumping while I'm getting sudsy and working on
- 14:27Speaker 2: cleaning my body and such. And then if I think
- 14:29Speaker 2: about that song specifically, I think that in that case,
- 14:33Speaker 2: it was probably we got to move these refrigerators. I
- 14:37Speaker 2: think that's because I was reminding myself to hurry up
- 14:39Speaker 2: and be on time and don't take too long in
- 14:41Speaker 2: the shower because you've got to get to work. I
- 14:43Speaker 2: don't know. 866-927-4361. What is the song that you sing
- 14:48Speaker 2: when you're in the shower? It's your go-to. Let's talk
- 14:51Speaker 2: about it. Call us. Tell us. Tap the talkback microphone
- 14:54Speaker 2: if you want. And if you're signed in listening to
- 14:56Speaker 2: us on your iHeart app. Hit us up now. Sing
- 14:59Speaker 2: it in the shower. 866-927-4361. The number to join the
- 15:05Speaker 2: conversation and tell us what it is you sing in
- 15:07Speaker 2: the shower. It's Toby and Chili in the morning. 97.1
- 15:10Speaker 2: Wash FM. And last week on The Voice, Kelly Clarkson shared.
- 15:13Speaker 3: That she loves singing Love Me Like a Man by
- 15:16Speaker 3: Bonnie Raitt after one of the contestants sang it. So
- 15:18Speaker 3: we know Kelly's go-to song.
- 15:20Speaker 2: And boy, that voice probably sounds amazing with the acoustics
- 15:25Speaker 2: of a shower. Now, Melissa, good morning in Bethesda. What's
- 15:28Speaker 2: your go-to shower song?
- 15:29Speaker 4: Toxic by Britney Spears.
- 15:31Speaker 3: See, that's a good one because she sort of sings,
- 15:34Speaker 3: speaks that song.
- 15:35Speaker 2: I'm ready. That is a valid point, Chili.
- 15:39Speaker 6: It's dramatic, it's sexy, and I'm standing there with conditioner
- 15:43Speaker 6: in my hair like I'm in a perfume commercial.
- 15:45Speaker 3: You can also use that conditioner bottle as your microphone.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Shower never sounded so good. Thank you so much, Melissa. Jason,
- 15:52Speaker 2: good morning in Ashburn. Singing in the shower, what song?
- 15:55Speaker 6: I go with the classics, you know, Footloose or Danger Zone.
- 16:03Speaker 3: Clearly you're a Kenny Loggins, Stan.
- 16:06Speaker 6: Anything you can dance to without actually dancing in the
- 16:09Speaker 6: shower because, I mean, that's just too dangerous.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Yes, Jason, danger zone indeed. Be very careful singing and
- 16:16Speaker 2: dancing in said shower. You don't want to bump your head.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Till be in chile in the morning it is 97.1
- 16:20Speaker 2: wash fm want to jump into the conversation want to
- 16:23Speaker 2: tell us what song you love to sing in the
- 16:25Speaker 2: shower why don't you tap that talkback microphone if you're
- 16:28Speaker 2: signed in listening on your iheart app it's wide open
- 16:30Speaker 2: for you right now and you need the news so
- 16:34Speaker 2: we got you covered right around 7 10 ish this
- 16:37Speaker 2: morning chile what's going on with top stories at the
- 16:40Speaker 2: top of the hour.
- 16:40Speaker 3: So you can't afford to buy a house on your
- 16:42Speaker 3: own A new survey finds that a lot of folks
- 16:45Speaker 3: are willing to team up with someone other than a
- 16:48Speaker 3: spouse for that home purchase.
- 16:51Speaker 2: Your next news is right around 710. Top stories at
- 16:54Speaker 2: the top of the hour. And then another round of
- 16:57Speaker 2: your nearly impossible question is on 97.1 Wash FM. You
- 17:00Speaker 2: want to play and try to win today, especially if
- 17:02Speaker 2: you're a fan of?
- 17:03Speaker 3: Carly Rae Jepsen coming to the Anthem in May. And
- 17:07Speaker 3: you can be there, thanks to Live Nation, if you
- 17:10Speaker 3: get the question right.
- 17:11Speaker 1: 97.1 WASH-FM, Washington.
- 17:15Speaker 4: An iHeartRadio station. Coming up on Top Stories, top of
- 17:19Speaker 4: the hour.

- 17:41Speaker 3: The president is facing bipartisan backlash over a deal to
- 17:44Speaker 3: let Russian diesel into the U.S. and global markets. He
- 17:48Speaker 3: says Russia will release 300,000 tons right away to ease
- 17:52Speaker 3: a fuel shortage. But critics say it is just a
- 17:54Speaker 3: lifeline for Vladimir Putin. An 83-year-old man died after he
- 17:59Speaker 3: was hit by a pickup truck. This happened at a
- 18:01Speaker 3: Rockville gas station Friday morning. Police say Charles Lazar was
- 18:04Speaker 3: walking to his car when a Silverado pulled away from

- 18:34Speaker 3: round of tree cutting at East Potomac Golf Links as
- 18:37Speaker 3: the administration moves ahead with a championship-level course. More than
- 18:42Speaker 3: 500 trees are slated to come down. The Washington Commanders
- 18:47Speaker 3: and New York Giants played to a 27-27 tie yesterday
- 18:51Speaker 3: after quarterback Jaden Daniels went down with 12 seconds left
- 18:54Speaker 3: in overtime and Washington ran out of time inside field
- 18:58Speaker 3: goal range. And buying a home we know is tough.
- 19:01Speaker 3: And high prices and mortgage costs, with all that, it's
- 19:04Speaker 3: really tough to do so. But a new survey says
- 19:07Speaker 3: Americans are open to teaming up with someone. 71% say
- 19:12Speaker 3: they would consider co-buying a house with a friend, relative,
- 19:17Speaker 3: or even an unmarried partner. Forecast for today, partly cloudy

- 19:29Speaker 2: It's a holiday Monday. What's the question?
- 19:32Speaker 3: 46% of people say this is more important than physical
- 19:37Speaker 3: appearance when it comes to choosing a partner. What is it?
- 19:40Speaker 6: 866-927-4361.
- 19:40Speaker 2: The number Carly Rae Jepsen is coming to the anthem
- 19:41Speaker 2: on May 14th. Thanks to Live Nation. If you want
- 19:50Speaker 2: to go, call now and answer that question right. Oh,
- 19:52Speaker 2: you missed the question. Here it is again.
- 19:55Speaker 3: 46% of people say this is more important than physical
- 19:58Speaker 3: appearance when choosing a partner. What is it?
- 20:01Speaker 6: 866-927-4361.
- 20:01Speaker 2: You know what to do, so do it.
- 20:07Speaker 4: Toby and Chili's Nearly Impossible Question.
- 20:09Speaker 2: All right, the question again on this Monday morning. What
- 20:12Speaker 2: we got?
- 20:12Speaker 3: 46% of people say this is more important than physical
- 20:16Speaker 3: appearance when you're choosing a partner. What is it?
- 20:19Speaker 2: 866-927-4361. That's the number. Carly Rae Jepsen. The anthem, May 14th.
- 20:25Speaker 2: Thanks to Live Nation. Tickets are up for grabs. Who
- 20:28Speaker 2: is this and where do you stay?
- 20:32Speaker 3: Hi, this is Mary.
- 20:32Speaker 4: I'm from Alexandria, Virginia.
- 20:34Speaker 2: I take a chair on the road because it's not
- 20:36Speaker 2: a federal holiday for you.
- 20:38Speaker 4: Correct, yes.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Well, if it's a federal holiday and the law is
- 20:42Speaker 2: the law, then shouldn't we all be getting holiday pay today?
- 20:45Speaker 3: One would think.
- 20:46Speaker 4: Are you not getting holiday pay?
- 20:48Speaker 2: I don't know, but after the show, I'm going to
- 20:49Speaker 2: call the union about that, you know?
- 20:51Speaker 3: Oh, my God.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Anyway, let's play this game. Carly Rae Jepsen tickets are
- 20:56Speaker 2: up for grabs, ma'am. You've got the question from Chili Amar.
- 20:59Speaker 2: What is your guest today?
- 21:00Speaker 4: A sense of humor.
- 21:02Speaker 3: Would you agree that that is more important than physical
- 21:05Speaker 3: appearance when you're choosing a partner? And if so, is
- 21:07Speaker 3: that what you considered?
- 21:08Speaker 4: Definitely, and yes.
- 21:10Speaker 3: Because I talk to everybody and anybody that I see,
- 21:13Speaker 3: and you've got to have a sense of humor.
- 21:15Speaker 5: To appear with me.
- 21:16Speaker 2: That's right, you do. Right. A good sense of humor
- 21:19Speaker 2: can offset shoddy-itis. It can offset other things like not-so-hot-itis.
- 21:24Speaker 2: And it also can get you in to see Carly
- 21:27Speaker 2: Rae Jepsen at the anthem because that is the right answer. Congratulations.
- 21:31Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Going to see Carly Rae Jepsen. Congratulations. Enjoy the show.
- 21:36Speaker 2: The tickets are yours now from 97.1 Watch FM. Thank
- 21:40Speaker 2: you and drive through.
- 21:41Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 21:42Speaker 2: You're welcome. And more tickets to see Carly Rae Jepsen,
- 21:45Speaker 2: Call Me Maybe, tomorrow right around 7, 10 with another
- 21:50Speaker 2: round of your Nearly Impossible Question. Hang with Toby and
- 21:52Speaker 2: Chili in the morning here at 97.1 Wash FM.
- 21:56Speaker 3: Coming up next, we're going to have a story that
- 21:58Speaker 3: we think will make your Monday. It was a scary
- 22:01Speaker 3: run home that inspired three Fairfax County students to create
- 22:05Speaker 3: an app they hope will make the walk to school safer.
- 22:08Speaker 2: Columbus Day, Indigenous Peoples Day, a holiday in the nation's capital,
- 22:13Speaker 2: but it's still Monday at 97.1 Wash FM. And like
- 22:16Speaker 2: we always do at this time, we want to share
- 22:19Speaker 2: a story. We do this on Mondays. A story that
- 22:21Speaker 2: we think might just make your Monday. We go to
- 22:24Speaker 2: Fairfax County where there's a group of high school students
- 22:27Speaker 2: who are using tech to make the walk to school
- 22:29Speaker 2: safer for the kids across the county.
- 22:32Speaker 3: Well, so this whole idea started with Thomas Jefferson High
- 22:35Speaker 3: School senior, Daniel Prokofiev, who decided to run eight miles
- 22:40Speaker 3: home last year. Well, Google Maps sent him along a
- 22:44Speaker 3: very busy road, Braddock Road, if you know it.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Well, all righty.
- 22:47Speaker 3: Problem is, there are no sidewalks along Braddock. So for
- 22:49Speaker 3: about 15 minutes of that, he found himself running alongside
- 22:52Speaker 3: the traffic and realized just how dangerous that could have
- 22:55Speaker 3: been for a student who was walking to school.
- 22:56Speaker 2: That's right. And it inspired Danielle and two classmates to create...
- 23:02Speaker 2: The app SafeWalker. During their school's 24-hour coding competition, they
- 23:07Speaker 2: got busy. Now, this is different than, like, say, Waze
- 23:09Speaker 2: or Google Maps, right? Those apps are great. They look
- 23:12Speaker 2: for the fastest route. SafeWalker looks for the safest one,
- 23:17Speaker 2: which is great because sidewalks, they're a thing. Traffic, crosswalks, construction,
- 23:23Speaker 2: they complicate things.
- 23:24Speaker 3: So now with the help from a $ 5, 000 grant and
- 23:28Speaker 3: Fairfax County Schools, the app is available to students in
- 23:31Speaker 3: the walking zones currently of 14 schools. And students say
- 23:35Speaker 3: the goal is simple. Kids should be able to walk
- 23:38Speaker 3: to school without having to worry about getting hit by
- 23:40Speaker 3: a car.
- 23:40Speaker 2: Danielle, to you and your friends who created Safe Walker,
- 23:44Speaker 2: thank you for a story that really does make our Monday.
- 23:47Speaker 2: And thank you for making something that keeps our most
- 23:51Speaker 2: precious investment safe, our kids. That's awesome. If you want
- 23:55Speaker 2: to read more about this, you can find us on
- 23:57Speaker 2: the Toby and Chili page at washfm.com. It's also where
- 24:00Speaker 2: you can share a story with us that might have
- 24:02Speaker 2: made your Monday that you would love for us to

- 24:22Speaker 3: a few minutes.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Chili, you know what's expensive? New tires. That expense comes
- 24:27Speaker 2: out of nowhere. You don't realize... You need them until
- 24:30Speaker 2: you do, and then boom. It's like a really expensive proposition.
- 24:35Speaker 2: It's like $ 1, 000 you don't have. 97.1 Wash FM. But
- 24:39Speaker 2: then you listen to us.
- 24:40Speaker 3: And we've got our $ 1, 000 workday payday. First shot coming

- 26:12Speaker 3: assess damage after Friday's 7.7 magnitude earthquake. Meanwhile, the U.S.
- 26:18Speaker 3: has pledged $ 5 million in aid. The Washington Commanders and
- 26:22Speaker 3: New York Giants played to a 27-27 tie yesterday after
- 26:26Speaker 3: both teams blew their chances to win in overtime. The
- 26:31Speaker 3: National Zoo wants your help naming a baby red panda.
- 26:35Speaker 3: The female cub, who was born back in June at

- 26:48Speaker 3: A new look at generational etiquette finds that Gen Z

- 27:37Speaker 2: with you. Love is a big word, but you know what?

- 27:55Speaker 2: the pursuit of love, we all do, we all do
- 27:59Speaker 2: some crazy, crazy things. Toby and Chili in the morning,
- 28:02Speaker 2: it's 97.1 WASH FM. Let's talk about it. At 866-927-4361.
- 28:07Speaker 3: There was a story saying that two in three Gen
- 28:11Speaker 3: Z daters, that's 64%, have actually tried psychics or spells
- 28:16Speaker 3: to get somebody to fall in love with them.
- 28:18Speaker 2: Okay, psychics, I can understand. Spells, I don't truck with
- 28:22Speaker 2: no people casting spells now.
- 28:26Speaker 3: Going out there to get somebody to notice you.
- 28:28Speaker 2: No, man, I ain't trying to take no dance with
- 28:30Speaker 2: somebody casting forth some sort of spellacious demonology. I ain't
- 28:34Speaker 2: doing that.
- 28:35Speaker 3: Finding love is tough. And back in the day when
- 28:37Speaker 3: I was doing the online dating thing, that felt crazy.
- 28:41Speaker 3: Now it's normal.
- 28:42Speaker 2: Now, Chili, I didn't use those apps for dating.
- 28:45Speaker 3: Okay. Yeah. Okay.
- 28:46Speaker 2: Nonetheless, that's probably why I didn't find any kind of
- 28:49Speaker 2: love on those apps. And honestly, in the case of
- 28:51Speaker 2: my current relationship, who I believe upon reason and belief
- 28:54Speaker 2: could be the one, she actually found me. That's a
- 28:57Speaker 2: story for another time. What about you? 866-927-4361. Craziest thing
- 29:03Speaker 2: you ever did to make someone fall in love with you.
- 29:06Speaker 2: And did it work? Nicole in Gaithersburg.
- 29:09Speaker 6: Ah. I found out that my crush loved this tiny
- 29:12Speaker 6: copy shop across town, so I suddenly became.
- 29:15Speaker 3: A regular there.
- 29:16Speaker 2: Well, that's one way to do it.
- 29:17Speaker 3: So you keep showing up, and what are you doing?
- 29:19Speaker 6: I would sit at the same table with the book,
- 29:21Speaker 6: pretending I was just living my best life while secretly hoping.
- 29:25Speaker 3: He would walk in.
- 29:25Speaker 2: And did love come walking in? He eventually did.
- 29:28Speaker 6: And immediately started dating the girl who worked there. Oh,
- 29:31Speaker 6: all that stalking for nothing.
- 29:32Speaker 3: I'm your Freaky Nikki. Indeed.
- 29:34Speaker 2: In Centerville, Todd, what you got? Oh, playing for the nostalgia,
- 29:38Speaker 2: the good memories and the feeling.
- 29:39Speaker 5: So what did your grand gesture entail? I spent four
- 29:55Speaker 5: hours making this elaborate dinner, dropped it off at her apartment,
- 29:59Speaker 5: and she told me she was already seeing someone.
- 30:01Speaker 3: Ooh, too late. She'd already moved on. I can't make
- 30:06Speaker 3: you love me if you don't.
- 30:10Speaker 5: Nothing humbles you like a homemade lasagna rejection.
- 30:16Speaker 2: Over two hours of commercial-free music for your Monday. I
- 30:19Speaker 2: know it's a federal holiday, but thank you for choosing
- 30:22Speaker 2: 97.1 Wash FM as your companion for whatever you find
- 30:26Speaker 2: that you're doing right now.
- 30:28Speaker 3: Condé Nast named the best small cities in the U.S. Now,
- 30:32Speaker 3: Charleston came in first.
- 30:34Speaker 2: But Alexandria, Virginia came in second. You're in good company
- 30:39Speaker 2: with Chucktown there, Alexandria. But Alexandria, you have your own
- 30:43Speaker 2: old town charm. Just saying. Congrats, 97.1 Wash FM. Over

- 30:56Speaker 2: are on the move.
- 30:57Speaker 3: The number one city they're moving to in the country
- 30:59Speaker 3: is San Antonio, Texas, but coming in at number five
- 31:02Speaker 3: is D.C.
- 31:03Speaker 2: Congratulations, D.C. Bring forth us, to us, the Generation Z.
- 31:09Speaker 2: That rhymes. Inadvertently, Taylor Swift. Hey, don't forget, before we bounce,

- 31:22Speaker 3: sure you enter it at washfm.com.
- 31:25Speaker 2: $ 1, 000 would come in handy right about now, wouldn't it? Well,
- 31:28Speaker 2: hopefully your morning mindset today from James Clear will come
- 31:32Speaker 2: in handy too on this holiday Monday. Goals are good,
- 31:37Speaker 2: says James Clear. In his book, Atomic Habits, goals are
- 31:42Speaker 2: good for setting a direction, but systems are best for
- 31:46Speaker 2: making progress. Yeah, we put pressure on ourselves to make huge,
- 31:50Speaker 2: massive changes, massive ones, but It's not about changing everything today.
- 31:54Speaker 2: I mean, after all, it's a holiday. But it is
- 31:56Speaker 2: about doing one little thing differently and then doing it
- 31:59Speaker 2: different again tomorrow. That's how progress starts. And that is
- 32:03Speaker 2: a change in the system, which could be the best
- 32:06Speaker 2: thing you do to make some progress. Go get them today.
- 32:10Speaker 2: Thanks for letting us be a part of your morning.
- 32:12Speaker 2: It's 97.1 Wash FM.
