  Reveals Jesus in a way that. Is truly.

  Hard to put into words. So we're going to be diving into
• 0:27
  Matthew chapter 17, verses one through 13, and this passage.
• 0:32
  Is titled. Jesus is transfigured on the
• 0:35
  mountain. After six days.
• 0:39
  Jesus took with him Peter, James and John, the brother of James,
• 0:43
  and LED them up a high mountain by themselves.
• 0:47
  There. He was.
• 0:47
  Transfigured before. Them.
• 0:49
  His face. Shone like the sun and his
• 0:52
  clothes became as white. As the light.
• 0:55
  Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah talking
• 0:59
  with. Jesus, Peter said.

  To Jesus. Lord, it is good for us to be
• 1:05
  here, if you. Wish I will.

  Put up 3 shelters. One for you, one for Moses, and
• 1:11
  one for. Elijah, while he was still.
• 1:14
  Speaking. A bright cloud covered.
• 1:16
  Them and a voice from the cloud said This is my son whom I love
• 1:22
  with him. I am well pleased listen to him

  when the. Disciples heard this.

  They fell. Face down to the ground,

  terrified. But Jesus came and touched them.

  Get up. He said don't be afraid.

  When they looked up, they saw no one.

  Except Jesus. As they were coming down the
• 1:43
  mountain, Jesus instructed them, don't tell anyone what you have
• 1:47
  seen until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.

  The disciples. Asked him why then did the
• 1:54
  teachers? Of the law say that.
• 1:55
  Elijah must come first. Jesus replied to be sure,

  Elijah. Comes and will restore all
• 2:02
  things but. I tell you, Elijah.

  Has already come and they did not recognize him, but have done
• 2:09
  to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man
• 2:14
  is going to suffer at their hands.

  Then the disciples understood. That he.

  Was talking to them about John the.

  Baptist, OK. So I'm going to give you all a
• 2:25
  little background and context, but.

  What we just. Read This is known as the
• 2:29
  Transfiguration and this is basically.
• 2:32
  A brief. But intentional portrayal of
• 2:35
  king Jesus in his. All of his glory.
• 2:39
  This was not just some meaningful spiritual moment.
• 2:42
  Scripture tells us that Jesus face.
• 2:45
  Is shone like the sun his? Clothes they.
• 2:48
  Become white. As light y'all.
• 2:51
  This was pure. Holiness.
• 2:54
  The light, the power, the glory there.
• 2:57
  Was no room for darkness up here on this mountain?

  And then all of a sudden, Moses. And Elijah?
• 3:03
  Appear and what we need to know is Moses.
• 3:07
  He is. Representing the law, so the 10
• 3:10
  commandments that he received on Mount Sinai and instructed.
• 3:13
  The people with. These all point forward.
• 3:16
  To a greater prophet. And Elijah, he represents the
• 3:20
  prophets and their. Voices because.
• 3:23
  They had been pointing towards the coming Messiah.
• 3:26
  So. Together.
• 3:28
  On this mountain, this moment, it's affirming something so
• 3:32
  important. Jesus, He does not.
• 3:35
  Abolish. The Law and the.
• 3:36
  Prophets he's. Only fulfilling them.
• 3:39
  And so then we hear the. Voice of God the Father.
• 3:42
  Speaking this is my beloved son. Listen to him and.
• 3:47
  God is so clearly. Asserting.
• 3:49
  The Authority. Of his son.
• 3:51
  Jesus, this. Warning, it's important because.
• 3:55
  These disciples. They would soon after Jesus dies
• 3:59
  and is resurrected and not with them in the flesh.

  They would soon be carrying the message.
• 4:06
  Of Jesus to people. Who wouldn't listen?
• 4:09
  Who wouldn't obey? Who would not ultimately
• 4:12
  believe? And so the invitation.
• 4:16
  Think about it. Jesus is.
• 4:17
  Taking Peter, James and John up this mountain.
• 4:22
  These were just. Ordinary fishermen, if we go.
• 4:24
  Back to the. Passage in Matthew the beginning
• 4:27
  of Matthew whenever Jesus calls them on the sea of.
• 4:31
  Galilee. They were just men who were
• 4:33
  doing their. Everyday work.
• 4:35
  When he came up to them and now they're standing in the glory of
• 4:39
  God on just a mountain with Jesus.
• 4:43
  Like what? And it reminds me that.
• 4:47
  It all. Starts with an invitation for
• 4:49
  us, and it's followed by willingness.
• 4:52
  Because there. Was nothing that they earned.
• 4:55
  This was not something that they planned for.
• 4:58
  Nothing that they had to. Work for to get there.
• 5:01
  It was simply their obedience to follow.
• 5:03
  Jesus. And that same invitation it.
• 5:06
  Still exists today. We're called to follow Jesus.
• 5:11
  And to experience the glory. Of the Lord through a.
• 5:14
  Personal relationship with Him when we receive Jesus into our
• 5:19
  hearts. His spirit lives.
• 5:21
  In US. It says all throughout
• 5:24
  scripture. That we become a dwelling place.
• 5:27
  Of his spirit we're sealed by. Him and this means that the same
• 5:33
  glorious. God.
• 5:34
  Who appeared on that mountain that day now dwells and lives
• 5:38
  within us. Y'all like.
• 5:41
  Let that sink in, because. That should.
• 5:43
  Really humble us. So while.
• 5:46
  I was reading 2. I had a question.
• 5:48
  OK. Jesus had 12.
• 5:50
  Disciples, why did he only choose?
• 5:53
  3. To go up the mountain.
• 5:54
  And I can't say I came to a conclusive answer.
• 5:58
  It didn't really say. Exactly why?

  In Scripture. But I do believe that it is a
• 6:05
  good. Take away message.
• 6:06
  For us. That depth matters.
• 6:08
  Proximity matters because not everyone in your.
• 6:12
  Life is. Going to walk with you into
• 6:15
  every single season and into. Deeper places.
• 6:19
  And that's OK. But even Jesus, the Son of God,
• 6:23
  he modeled. For us that.
• 6:25
  It is important. To value.
• 6:28
  Closeness and not crowds. And the biggest thing?
• 6:33
  So. Moving forward, we.
• 6:35
  See that these disciples as. Soon as they.
• 6:38
  Heard God. 'S voice and just saw Jesus in
• 6:42
  all of his. Glory their.
• 6:43
  Response. Was worship.
• 6:45
  They fell. Face down and honestly, that's
• 6:49
  the only right response I believe.
• 6:52
  Because when you truly understand Jesus as the living
• 6:55
  Son of God, it leads to submission and obedience.
• 6:59
  You can't help but fall to your knees and lift your hands in
• 7:03
  full surrender. Because y'all, he is glorious.
• 7:06
  He is. Majestic.
• 7:08
  Holy. And he's.
• 7:09
  So, so real. So I just want to ask you guys.

  This. Have you encountered Jesus?
• 7:17
  And I ask this knowing that everyone's salvation story.
• 7:21
  It looks. Different.
• 7:22
  It's not meant to all look the same, but I just want y'all to
• 7:26
  think about have. You allowed.
• 7:28
  His abundant grace. To wash over you freely.
• 7:33
  Are you seeing Jesus rightly? For who he truly.
• 7:36
  Is and his identity and character.
• 7:39
  Because yes, he's close. He's.
• 7:42
  Personal he is. The.
• 7:44
  Best friend. But he is also.
• 7:46
  The image. Of the holy God.
• 7:48
  And I don't want us to. Glaze over.
• 7:50
  That and miss His Holiness. So after.
• 7:54
  This moment Jesus is coming down the mountain with his disciples
• 7:58
  and he's telling them don't tell anyone yet.

  And this begs the question, OK, why?
• 8:04
  But I touched on this in an episode.

  Before this, but it's because they.
• 8:09
  Had not seen. The full story of.
• 8:13
  Jesus as Messiah and his mission.
• 8:16
  They hadn't seen the cross, experience the resurrection and
• 8:19
  this timing. It mattered because you cannot
• 8:23
  explain what you don't yet fully understand.
• 8:27
  So moving on to this reflection, and I want to say this gently,
• 8:33
  it's something I've had to wrestle with in the past myself,
• 8:36
  but I want to be direct. If you claim to be a Christian
• 8:40
  and follow Jesus, are you taking daily?
• 8:43
  Steps. To know him more.
• 8:46
  This looks like. Studying His Word and studying
• 8:49
  the Bible, reading it. Through prayer through.
• 8:52
  Seeking his presence, not just following the idea of him.
• 8:57
  Because ultimately, you can't teach others about someone that
• 9:01
  you don't actually really know. Yourself so a Bible.
• 9:06
  Verse in your Instagram bio that only goes so.
• 9:09
  Far. It might make people.
• 9:11
  Curious, but are you? Actually living out your faith
• 9:15
  and representing him in a way that honors him and in
• 9:19
  Scripture. Second Timothy 316 through 17,
• 9:23
  it says all. Scripture is God.
• 9:25
  Breathed and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting,
• 9:29
  and training in righteousness. So that.
• 9:32
  The servant of God might be. Thoroughly equipped for every
• 9:36
  good work. And shortly after Second Timothy
• 9:39
  42. It tells us we are be, we are
• 9:43
  to. Be ready and trained in season
• 9:45
  and out of season. To correct, to rebuke.
• 9:49
  And so you don't need a. Title.
• 9:52
  Or a platform to share the. Gospel.
• 9:55
  You don't need to be some big. Pastor or?
• 9:58
  A graduate from seminary school. We already.
• 10:01
  Have everything we need. Through his.
• 10:04
  Word and. Through his spirit, that is.
• 10:07
  Dwelling in us when we receive him.
• 10:11
  But. We do need to be intentional
• 10:13
  about knowing. Jesus deeply.
• 10:15
  And just having a greater hunger for that.
• 10:19
  So I want to close in prayer. Father God.
• 10:24
  We stand in awe. Of who you are.
• 10:27
  Thank you so much for showing Jesus to us, not only as.
• 10:32
  A savior, but as the glorious. Son of God.
• 10:37
  Would you help us? To see him rightly remove
• 10:41
  anything that is dulling our reverence or maybe distracting
• 10:47
  us from hearing your voice. Would you teach?
• 10:50
  Us to listen with humility to respond.
• 10:54
  With faithful. Obedience, Lord, we want you to
• 10:58
  take us deeper than. Just a surface.
• 11:01
  Level belief in faith. Lord, we want to know you
• 11:05
  personally. We want to walk.
• 11:07
  Closely. With you hand in hand every day
• 11:11
  and to reflect your holiness in how we.
• 11:14
  Live our. Lives and how we demonstrate
• 11:16
  your love to those around us. So.
• 11:18
  As we come down the mountain. Help us to carry what you have
• 11:24
  revealed. To us into our everyday.
• 11:26
  Lives. I pray.
• 11:28
  That our. Devotion.
• 11:29
  It would be sincere and that. Our worship it.
• 11:32
  Would be genuine. It would not be just.
• 11:34
  So that others see us. Worshiping or to look.
• 11:37
  Like a good. Christian follower of Christ.

  Lord, we want our lives. To be fully dedicated to.
• 11:44
  You in everything and all that we.
• 11:47
  Say all. That we we think and all that we
• 11:49
  do, we give. You.
• 11:51
  All the honor and the praise. Today, Jesus.
