- 0:42This is your host. Jason who is my guest today and
- 0:45Joe. Hello.
- 0:47We have been spending the last six hours, talking about the
- 0:50Daleks master plan. We are now up to episode 11.
- 0:53The abandoned Planet. This has been quite a story so
- 0:55far Joe. The first two parts took place
- 0:57on the planet Campbell Parts, three and four for a
- 1:01gut-wrenching journey through space.
- 1:03When you have the deaths of Catarina and bread Parts, five
- 1:06and six are a bizarre wacky adventure.
- 1:09The planet Myra with invisible aliens called visions, that
- 1:12should be called envisions. And we've just wrapped up a
- 1:16four-part sequel. To The Chase Avatar meddler of
- 1:19the same time, and we've had a Christmas special and a New
- 1:23Year's Day special. And then, what did you think
- 1:26about the material? At the Great Pyramid?
- 1:27I thought it was underwritten. And disappointing, I wanted to
- 1:30see an ancient Egypt historical the not have the Great Pyramid
- 1:33users comedy window dressing. I mean, I'm bloody exhausted.
- 1:37We've been over at about a universe for this story.
- 1:40Honestly, I'm knackered. But we are now.
- 1:43We are now coming to the end. Do we are coming to the last two
- 1:46episodes on the planet Campbell and nothing will ever be the
- 1:49same again, indeed. Now, I know you're being
- 1:53facetious right now. I know you are taking a piss but
- 1:58I mean we might as well have been talking about the diet
- 2:00master bath, the amount which is about the God bless mr.
- 2:04Gatlin we will talk more about Jackie land, we're talking about
- 2:07poor Sarah Sutton, we've covered Janet Fielding.
- 2:11We've covered Chris frates bid Meade as the ainley Matthew
- 2:14Waterhouse How's Tom Baker? We've talked about the
- 2:17constituent elements of this story, having a dry freezer,
- 2:20Tom, georgeson, we've talked about everything, but Sarah
- 2:23Sutton. Oh, should wait Walter.
- 2:24I think we should start that. And, well, let's go to the
- 2:27episode. Then we can talk about Sarah
- 2:28son. All right, I'll count us down
- 2:32nothing like this has ever happened before 321.
- 2:40Countdown to the end of the universe countdown, to the end
- 2:44of the universe. So I'll tell you my origin
- 2:47story. So, logopolis was not obviously
- 2:51my first. Before you start, you make it
- 2:54your personal origin story. Well, we've talked about the
- 2:58origin story of the scrappiest, my personal origin story.
- 3:01How how logopolis came to be my favorite episode.
- 3:04Oh sorry, I thought you meant you were gonna talk about they.
- 3:07How old are you? How old am I?
- 3:10I'm 24 24 years ago. When mr.
- 3:14And mrs. Miller decided to go at it in
- 3:16the bedroom, one night. Sorry, go on.
- 3:20My parents have been divorced for 35 years and now you've
- 3:23scarred me for life with that image.
- 3:27Please tell me you're look up. Please origin story, not your
- 3:30birth story. Oh, my goodness.
- 3:32So, as you know, I came into the show with season 20, but I had
- 3:37two friends at school. Who would Doctor, Who fans?
- 3:41They're the ones who encouraged me to watch the show.
- 3:44This is my friends, John and Stephen.
- 3:45They're both still friends, and I still see them.
- 3:47Even though they open it, they live in other states.
- 3:49Every so often John was a collector of the novelizations
- 3:53and he was the reason why I started collecting the books.
- 3:57So one day, he brought the novelization of logopolis to
- 4:00school and I started reading it during a free period that I
- 4:04probably got about as far as chapter 5 or chapter 6 and I
- 4:09hadn't read the novelizations. Before this point at age 11, my
- 4:13reading habits mostly consisted of Choose Your Own Adventure
- 4:17books. The Hardy Boys monthly issues
- 4:21with baseball digest. I wasn't reading a lot of
- 4:23Science Fiction, but getting into To the logopolis book from
- 4:28that point on. It was really no turning back.
- 4:32And all I wanted out of life itself was to have my own copy
- 4:36of a little goblins novelization.
- 4:38So, my parents and I struck a deal.
- 4:41I would babysit my kid Sister after school every day, so they
- 4:45wouldn't have to pay for a babysitter anymore and they
- 4:47would pay me three dollars a week.
- 4:50This is 1985 cash three dollars. Doesn't even minimum wage to
- 4:54babysit my kid sister. And there's novelizations words,
- 4:58295 a piece. So, I would get one book the
- 5:01week, so every other Saturday, we go to the local mall, the mid
- 5:04Island mall, and Nassau County. New York.
- 5:08Then we go to the waldenbooks, which is now defunct booksellers
- 5:12chain. And I would stand in front of
- 5:14the wall, which I had two full shelves of novelizations, and I
- 5:19waited months for the gospels to come back into stock because I
- 5:22was, you know, too shy to ask the cashier to special order
- 5:25that would just buy two or three of whatever was in front of me,
- 5:28which is always a difficult Choice than to this day.
- 5:31I mentioned this on the Trap, one target episode.
- 5:33I still have dreams about standing in bookstores staring
- 5:35into shelves and shelves, the books, trying to get
- 5:38novelizations that I've never seen before.
- 5:40But with apples finally showed up, and my copy is now better
- 5:44because I've read it, probably at a conservative estimate 25,
- 5:47or 30 times. And the, as good as the TV
- 5:52story, is that we're about to lose John Fraser here.
- 5:55The book is even That's better. But all this is to say is
- 5:59logopolis didn't cycle back around on PBS for another 13
- 6:03months after I started watching the show so it was going to air
- 6:09the week between Christmas and New Year's 1985 and of course we
- 6:14were going to be out of town. We were taking a family trip
- 6:17into Manhattan and we were going to be staying at the Hyatt
- 6:20Regency Hotel on 42nd Street next to Grand Central Station.
- 6:25Then we were there for a family gathering.
- 6:26Touring and descend to see a particular play off, Broadway,
- 6:28play. That was playing down on Second
- 6:30Avenue, so I'll pause. What do you think of John?
- 6:33Fraser's, death scene. There you said before there was
- 6:35very underplayed, it is on the plane and it's what it's
- 6:39massively High concept, isn't it essentially the death of the
- 6:42universe has just killed him and when the master goes, oh my God,
- 6:47that's horrible. You know the shit has hit the
- 6:50fan, right? And the master runs away saying
- 6:53I can't deal with this. In the book he was supposed to
- 6:56Walk up to the roof of the building and cross over to the
- 6:59aerial and program in the coordinates to the CV that way.
- 7:03Then you fell through a hole in the roof.
- 7:05It's one that the entropy had already caught him, so instead
- 7:08of falling and breaking his neck, he fell slowly like a
- 7:11feather and disintegrate it. And I'm going to cloud of dust
- 7:14and that was unfilmable. That's the way he goes in the
- 7:16novelization falling and exploding in a cloud of dust.
- 7:19Well, I'm sorry, I didn't mess the Lakers under the
- 7:21circumstances but they visually striking is visually straight
- 7:25out. There was a you are a jackass.
- 7:26On the night might be praised. We thought that he had been
- 7:28erased from history. Well, he's been a vice rise from
- 7:33the universe, doesn't he that's it?
- 7:35It's gone. He hasn't been easy.
- 7:36This is the cigarette. He hasn't been erased from
- 7:38history as if he no longer exists.
- 7:40But he's dead. This is the way of dying.
- 7:42But do you think it's marvelous how the master figured he could
- 7:45come to logopolis and hold the whole universe to run sermon and
- 7:49you know, as part of one of his dastardly schemes?
- 7:52Yeah. At least we no clue what he was
- 7:54clocking up and now he's running off.
- 7:56Now, the shit, hit the fan. So look at this scene right
- 8:00here. We are in Manhattan.
- 8:02So I set my VCR to tape Channel, 21 every night at 7:00 when they
- 8:07are Doctor Who. So I get home and all I want, we
- 8:11get home after New Year's. All I want is to see part 4 of
- 8:15logopolis, part 2 plays, I watch part two, wonderful part, three
- 8:21plays. Wonderful part for plays, they
- 8:26had switched over to pledge drives and a pledge Drive had
- 8:30delayed the broadcast. So I got instead of all apart
- 8:36for I got the last 10 minutes. Of our three, some pledge make
- 8:42material some pledge break material.
- 8:45I should say, in the first five minutes of part 4 in and ends
- 8:48right here as a jerk goes. He's disabling the entire
- 8:52coordinates subsystem so I didn't get to see the last 20
- 8:56minutes of logopolis part for and I didn't get to see the
- 8:58Regeneration because of it wasn't so much a VCR
- 9:02malfunction, but it was a programming programming error
- 9:05Channel 21, so they aired Par 3 and 4 together and they didn't
- 9:09airport for in the right. Time slot and I missed it and it
- 9:12was probably another year or two before I finally get out of see
- 9:14Tom Baker regenerate remember this is before you to bits
- 9:17before you know I can really borrow a copy of the VHS or buy
- 9:21it or have the DVD. I had to wait a long time so
- 9:25that last scene of accomplice was the Holy Grail for me.
- 9:28I'm guessing you were not happy bunny.
- 9:32The only other worst VCR malfunction.
- 9:35I think I mentioned this on the nylon.
- 9:37Deep raised when my copy of the five, doctors cut out as Bruce
- 9:42is putting the ring on his finger that I missed the last
- 9:44five minutes after that, what is it during these massive stories?
- 9:48Like it's never during Terminus is a ordering for to, Doomsday
- 9:52know, I would have been thrilled if my VCR had exploded in the
- 9:55middle of time on the runway, I wouldn't have cared less but for
- 9:57me it's always the stuff that I love that.
- 9:59I want to see over and over again that I lose.
- 10:02As you come on a, with your hatred, for Tech tracks, all
- 10:05right? Okay, so I have never said a bad
- 10:11word about the traps on your podcast.
- 10:14Good going to give you an epiphany in life and now it's
- 10:22gone out of my head because we start talking about Ted traps
- 10:26and I do like I like the contrast now and all these
- 10:29things on Earth and I really like in a minute all the
- 10:32location where them dashing about do you know why?
- 10:35Because they're actually having a bit of fun and I think That's
- 10:37one thing. This story lacks at times, it is
- 10:40a bit dry stuff, doesn't it? Whereas they start having a bit
- 10:43of a run around and some final episode 4 and you got some
- 10:46fabulous faux, seventies Petty Kings, and music playing in the
- 10:50background, like dananananana bum, bum bum, bum bum bum.
- 10:54You know, it's really fun. I'm going to agree with you
- 11:00really. That's a new look for you.
- 11:02I'm sure that I even have the temerity to see the words.
- 11:05I would, I would say the story. Is serious.
- 11:08I wouldn't say it's dry as dust because the line reading is,
- 11:12then the dialogue, the individual words are very witty,
- 11:15it's just in service of a downbeat story.
- 11:17So it's not Laugh Out Loud, Comedy, like city of death.
- 11:21It's so it's not an interesting, it's not Dull.
- 11:24No, no, please do, but it's stories like attending a fucking
- 11:27week before he's even died. Well, that's, that's, that's
- 11:32yeah, that's probably a better way of saying it then dry as
- 11:34dust, okay? Sorry, I'm sorry, apologize.
- 11:37If I was giving a negative reading to what I meant in a
- 11:41positive way, let's just say it's thoughtful.
- 11:45Then, shall we? And considerate, thoughtful, and
- 11:49considerate, and you wouldn't get that in the c word.
- 11:52You say word would never be this introspective.
- 11:55He would just have Bloody violence, and he would have the
- 11:57doctor making inappropriate jokes doesn't help.
- 12:00I've cited a full for I think parts of Planet fire parts of
- 12:04Enlightenment. Wait, a minute is so gorgeous.
- 12:08We talked about that on the nylon show but what I want to
- 12:11talk to you about this thing now because I think this is one of
- 12:14the best scenes in the entirety of classic Who and it's entirely
- 12:19due to saracens before. So we do want to talk about
- 12:21Sarah Sutton, what's happening is so enormous.
- 12:26We're seeing a picture of the universe to scale on the table.
- 12:30This scanner literally being eaten Away by entropy and
- 12:35expressed through Sarah Sutton's performance.
- 12:38And then she realizes that her home planet has been destroyed
- 12:41and she very subtly like on the place.
- 12:45The grief that she experiences in that moment, what I love
- 12:49about it is, it's massively High concept, it is beautiful and is
- 12:54a marvelous piece of acting as well.
- 12:57I think it, I think it is one of the best moments in.
- 13:00Don't do this. It's part of that, you mentioned
- 13:04that because you compare it to what Jacob Anderson was doing in
- 13:08the first episode of flux, when he's sitting there and outpost
- 13:12Rose, and he's watching the flux.
- 13:14Destroy planets in front of him. It's almost the same scene, but
- 13:18he's playing it in a modern-day sensibility.
- 13:21This is playing with quiet hurt. Like, you're going to burst into
- 13:24tears, just wouldn't get this rating of this.
- 13:27Say, nowadays, I'd have to make it exciting and, you know, like,
- 13:33what God, we're running away from the end of the universe or
- 13:35is this is just a 44 moment, but it's huge when you think of a
- 13:39concept of entire worlds, being eaten up and it's all channeled
- 13:44through her performers. I look at how grimwade is
- 13:48pushing the camera into her face.
- 13:51You can pair two Ron Jones, this is a true story.
- 13:54Joe Ron Jones was a director for three years.
- 13:58Before he learned that cameras, consume if you watch his earlier
- 14:01stories he never ever moves the camera once you're a terrorist.
- 14:08It's like here. We're here.
- 14:09We are getting into mrs. Face as she's about to cry and
- 14:12the music is playing up. But you know, some actors.
- 14:16Yeah. Would shy away from that or
- 14:19wouldn't be able to do it. Janet Fielding earlier in this
- 14:21story, the camera straight enough to straighten her face
- 14:24when she has to go. Like, you know, we're going to
- 14:26Earth and she's like, and it's just horrendous, whereas
- 14:31Sarasota is completely unabashed by that camera.
- 14:34Right in her face, I am now going to invite you Jill, I am
- 14:39inviting you. I'm coming next.
- 14:41I like, who this? Is November 20 22 on the Eastern
- 14:46end of wild. So you fly into JFK, I'll pick
- 14:51you up from the airport. Bring you out to my palatial
- 14:54estate in Brooklyn, and then we'll drive all the way out to
- 14:58Long Island next year, this year l, i who the convention was
- 15:02called time, flight. Li who presents time flight next
- 15:05year, it's a lie who presents Meg, Lohse and the two guests,
- 15:09they've already announced. They're going to be Peter
- 15:11Davison and your friend and mine Janice Building and I'm going to
- 15:15have you go up to Janet an autograph session or a photo
- 15:18session and you will imitate, you will do your best, take an
- 15:20impression and we'll see how long it takes her to sluggy.
- 15:23When the draw, how we doing live?
- 15:25Commentary at the convention, how amazing would that be you
- 15:28and me going at each other? Oh, that would be amazing.
- 15:33Come on. Well Wing, It wing it.
- 15:35You know, people sort it out. I also love the fact that in
- 15:40that exchange, their I said I'm coming and you said I'm going to
- 15:43have your way with me. I mean this relationship between
- 15:46you and me is getting out of hand.
- 15:47I'm telling you now. All right, my wife is sitting
- 15:51two rooms over doing work and she has no idea what we're
- 15:53talking about is no idea across the world.
- 15:58I'm sorry. Music.
- 16:03Now I must turn it off. It's so much fun.
- 16:05So look at Tom Baker's. Pained expression, as he walks
- 16:08away here's the corresponding seen in the novelization page
- 16:13121 actually that's what it's a little bit.
- 16:17So I'm getting a little bit ahead.
- 16:18This is actually be on the scene we just saw but this is an
- 16:22interesting, interesting. Big need Pros page 121 from the
- 16:26door of the TARDIS. The Watcher had seen the master
- 16:29retracing. Steps to the computer room.
- 16:31As he saw now, the doctors perilous Ascent of the Pharaohs
- 16:33antenna. These were the conditions of the
- 16:36moment. He knew had to come in.
- 16:38His mind was a clock. Its hands closing in on the
- 16:41inevitable, vertical of midnight.
- 16:45And that's big B's way of showing us that the Watcher
- 16:47knows. The doctor is about to die.
- 16:48That's the moment. He's waiting to be born, you
- 16:51know, I think I feel as if we may have reached Peak podcasting
- 16:56here, having you reading out that excerpt from Um, the
- 17:00lakopolous novel whilst Paddock England's Folsom is music was
- 17:04playing in the background. I can't wait to listen to this.
- 17:07You know, it's gonna be amazing. How many times do you run across
- 17:12the street and your mind is going, what?
- 17:13Could you go back and check out. Why can't you you ready?
- 17:18Here we go. Yep, it's so much.
- 17:30It is, it's great. And and on the soundtrack that
- 17:33my friend made for me years ago, on audio cassette, I would just
- 17:35play this over and over again. Like I said, You don't think the
- 17:39Tardis is why you see the Tardis in the background, there some
- 17:42lip. Yeah, we'll just know you
- 17:46compare it to the way that Barry.
- 17:47Let's film the same location as director and Terror of the
- 17:50autons is a much more visually exciting story.
- 17:54Yeah. Although let's not be too hard
- 17:56like techniques changing a decade, right?
- 17:59Like dude, I just said, Barry. Let you said, let's not be too
- 18:04hard. JoJo, come on.
- 18:08What did I tell you about puns? All right, Pinky Promise.
- 18:12A small thing in it. As you said about John Fraser on
- 18:17the nylon show, you what you want to add to the monitor
- 18:21subtract from him, and certain digits.
- 18:25That's my people talking over there.
- 18:29So this is, this is great, because this is supposed to be
- 18:31like, it's almost like Reichenbach Falls, isn't it?
- 18:33Except it's a Doctor Who version of that they go up to a really
- 18:36high location. They have a showdown and then,
- 18:41like the doctors hanging on Falls.
- 18:43It's basically Isn't it? And it's almost intentional
- 18:47because remember Barry. Let's and Terrance dicks pitch
- 18:51him specifically as the doctors Moriarty.
- 18:55Say it works. And then of course they did talk
- 18:57about it again. As recently as spy fall apart to
- 19:02get insight with the accent and Jason.
- 19:03You go stay with the accent why I might buy British accent is
- 19:07useless. So I just speak in pure
- 19:08Brooklyn. If you're from Brooklyn, you
- 19:09can't do other accident on went home, and it all came in the
- 19:13next day and said, the Bowery, what we need is a Moriarty.
- 19:20So there we good Terrance dicks. Thank you very much this.
- 19:26This whole thing about what on Earth is going on all this
- 19:28technobabble they basically could have just said look the
- 19:32universe is going to go boom. When I press this Butler's Take
- 19:36the gift of Christopher, each bin mean is that if technobabble
- 19:40is delivered by actors of this caliber, you believe it, even if
- 19:43you don't always catch the exact meaning of all the words, can I
- 19:47let you in on a little secret, I thought you already had.
- 19:51But yeah, go ahead go ahead. I prefer the technobabble
- 19:55Douglas Adams personally because it is it's almost taken a piss
- 20:00out the technobabble crispy thing.
- 20:02I so overblown it all sounds. So Jealous and yet the
- 20:07technobabble all of a sudden she is rooted in real science as
- 20:11well. But taken to of like an extreme
- 20:14of fum. The funny thing is Tara Douglas
- 20:18Adams wasn't sitting out to making fun of science.
- 20:20There's a comment that he wrote on the script for now I'm on
- 20:24saying can we at least pretend we know what a black hole is.
- 20:27He was frustrated by the bed pseudoscience been made himself
- 20:32made some mistakes. I can unless your hive Ramana is
- 20:35talking about A fifo stack. It's actually a fifo queue.
- 20:38The stack is a lifo stack the big me kind of got it wrong but
- 20:42he was he had the right idea. He was trying to put all these
- 20:45computer terms into the show. I know, technical for Curry's,
- 20:50which I mention is that okay? But I love the sound of a
- 20:53conceptual geometer. That sounds huh?
- 20:57Did I tell you the story about the State of Decay novelization?
- 21:00Because we know that dicks and bid me, they hated each other.
- 21:04And we know that one of the last thing Terrance dicks ever wrote,
- 21:07was that letter to dwm attacking big made for the stuff.
- 21:11Big meat said about him and one of the documentaries really in
- 21:14the novelization of State of Decay, big meeting, sorry,
- 21:17Terrance dicks, as a line to did meet script.
- 21:19So when your Mana goes, what's the time to confer go?
- 21:23The doctor goes. I think.
- 21:26It means the Museum of Technology but on the other
- 21:28hand, I might have made it up. That is Dick.
- 21:33Throwing Shade been me the 1982, love it love it.
- 21:36Well no we said before that Chris frates bid me is it's a
- 21:41bit of a genius and created a you know a very robust season of
- 21:45Doctor Who he can't touch Terror sticks.
- 21:48I'm sorry if that's going to be a hairy heel style fight
- 21:51Terrance. Dicks is going to win that hands
- 21:53down. Terrance dicks is a genius of
- 21:56massive proportions. I like them both and I wish they
- 21:59would get along. Now, look at Alias performance
- 22:02in the scene. Had sarcastically brushes dust
- 22:04from the doctors shoulder. Now he's being serious.
- 22:08He's very good in this scene. He's going to go over the top in
- 22:11a minute but he's very serious when he needs to be Jason.
- 22:16Hi. Joe.
- 22:17You know you doing actual emanate other Silhouettes in a
- 22:20very strongly there against the like.
- 22:22Yes. I'll pick dude on the looks like
- 22:24that. Such a rude.
- 22:26Looking weapon. Come in here and try to elevate
- 22:36the discourse. I try to talk about Jackie Lane.
- 22:40I read you from a book by speaking soft measured tones.
- 22:45And here you are getting excited at a prop.
- 22:48Well, the things you could do with that TC, I'm telling ya.
- 22:51Sorry, this is very important, things happening.
- 22:53Stop bothering me and talk about sexy things because we're a, my
- 22:56shortcomings, as a straight cisgender white male come into
- 22:59play. I would have no idea what to do
- 23:00with that thing. Well, talk off camera.
- 23:07Okay, we're coming to the Regeneration.
- 23:09Now, let's get out of the bedroom for a moment.
- 23:11I just for a moment. Oh, no, he's doing the part of
- 23:15pushing. There we go.
- 23:22Okay, on the Blu-ray. Right.
- 23:24They do you not think that this whole sequence on the blue of
- 23:26the new effects was amazing? I'm not the kind of person who
- 23:31holds doctor whose effect against it.
- 23:33I realize I'm watching, RKO, I can Archive of footage of a dead
- 23:36show. I know, angle know it is called
- 23:39television. So the visual element is
- 23:41important. Yes, but we're watching most TV
- 23:45is almost TV is black and white. Most TV is technically no longer
- 23:50relevant when we watched out for watching stuff that could no
- 23:52longer be made today. I don't mind watching bad
- 23:55effects as long as the acting in the dialogue are good.
- 23:58Yes, I don't watch all of the Blu-ray.
- 24:00Special video features. I don't watch all the updated
- 24:03effects. I have watched in the gospels
- 24:05when I think it is gorgeous. But if I had a choice as I'm
- 24:08doing right now, I'm watching the original version of the
- 24:10story. But I am watching the original
- 24:12effects right now, about the new ones.
- 24:15I tend to agree with you. I just think sometimes they
- 24:18managed to realize what was in like.
- 24:20Yeah, what was supposed to be on the screen, then they do, they
- 24:23manage to get that, right? And they said definitely do with
- 24:26this one. Oh, here we go.
- 24:28Flashback I love this. All the bad guys coming in to
- 24:33talk to him at this moment of extremists.
- 24:35There's the pirate. Captain averroes Jason you shall
- 24:44pay for this. Here we go.
- 24:49Yeah, no wait, but you see this bit in a minute where the dolly
- 24:52was hanging and then his arm Falls.
- 24:56It's stage differently on the novelization of staged better,
- 25:02but the idea was hand falling off and that's how you see him
- 25:04die in the original version. There's no stick figure from
- 25:07falling to the ground and the version that I'm watching.
- 25:10I don't actually see the body fall.
- 25:12The doctors just falling to his death or the master just off
- 25:15center stage with a little giggle.
- 25:18Well, I'll be back in 45 seconds of story time for Castroville
- 25:21part 1. I'm going to be serious for a
- 25:24second because I think this is Beautifully stage this
- 25:27regeneration and the music, the music, my God, the way the music
- 25:31is going down the scale over and over again.
- 25:34And just the way the camera was coming down as what it's
- 25:36unusually shop, doctor, isn't he like fourthly show then grimwade
- 25:40was on the floor for this, wearing his black and white
- 25:43checked while sure he was there literally right next to the
- 25:45actors is a recording this. Yeah it was a saying, if I'll
- 25:49tell you to beckon you beckon, all right.
- 25:56It was funny watching the pilgrimage and pinpointing all
- 25:58the moments, and all the stories were all the stuff come from.
- 26:04That line is the end but the moment has been prepared for
- 26:08gosh. The only thing is, the only line
- 26:10I wish was excised was mr. Kane.
- 26:12He was the doctor all the time, you know, the Miracles of
- 26:17post-production but like we do. I'd say is the most interesting
- 26:31lie realize yeah, for sure. Haines gives it a run, but this
- 26:37is probably my favorite. Hello Peter Davis is double
- 26:40chin. There reminds me of my covid
- 26:41weight gain. Oh my God, I love that.
- 26:46There's no doctor face in the closing credits anymore.
- 26:48There's just a blank void where the face used to be and John
- 26:52Fraser gets second Billy. How awesome is that Jason we
- 26:55have been. I feel as if in this podcast
- 26:58we've been all around the universe ourselves.
- 27:00We've been all around Doctor Who we've taken a little detour to
- 27:03the bedroom, we've come back to Doctor, Who.
- 27:06Again, I mean, we've covered a lot of ground here and talk
- 27:10about a little bit of fair amount.
- 27:11But we talked about a lot of the key.
- 27:13Key players and their contributions stop to.
- 27:17As a whole, I'm going to ask you now to be completely focused and
- 27:22give me three recommendations for logopolis three things.
- 27:29You mean three things to recommend about logopolis?
- 27:32Thank you, sir that a lot more efficiently.
- 27:34Yes, script. It is some gorgeous lines of
- 27:38dialogue, which I repeat over and over again in my daily.
- 27:40Life, John, Fraser's performance is the monitor which is subtle
- 27:45and underplayed, and worried, and poignant.
- 27:48And lastly, this is Tom Baker's last episode as the doctor and
- 27:51he is finding new depth to the character.
- 27:54These never showed us before, it is an acting class and maybe we
- 27:58didn't talk about Baker as much as we should have but just
- 28:01watching Tom Baker, go through this story, It Makes You Weep.
- 28:05Imagine if we had season 8 of Tom Baker, with bid, meet script
- 28:10editing and a drink gamble, or Whiteman his companions, that
- 28:13would have been perhaps a great season 19, he does look as if a
- 28:17man who's ready to go, he could have given us more, definitely
- 28:21like imagine Dolores given that line rating.
- 28:24He was a doctor all the time. But I'm going to add three more.
- 28:30So I'm gonna throw in a paddock England score which terrific
- 28:37throughout. I mean, I'm doing General.
- 28:39Things over p.a. Greenways Direction as a whole
- 28:42because I think he has a masterful handle over the tone
- 28:45of the piece and as much as it pains me to say because it's
- 28:50literally going to get a hard-on by me saying this Christopher
- 28:53h-bridge Meads script which I was wrong 16 years ago.
- 28:59I'm saying it now to you. I was wrong.
- 29:01He has written a very good script.
- 29:04It's a little bit messy, structurally, I think, but with
- 29:08massive Concepts, terrific dialogue and a sense of
- 29:11momentum, which climax is on one of the most memorable set pieces
- 29:16ever. In October there you have it.
- 29:19Joe, thank you for coming on hamster with a blunt penknife.
- 29:23Thank you. For retracting.
- 29:24Your opinion from 17 years ago, we can both agree.
- 29:27Logopolis is one of the Great Stories.
- 29:29Good night, everybody.
