- 0:05Speaker 1: As we continue on a media road, I got my
- 0:08Speaker 1: man Carsons Swastinger just got Defensive Rookie of the Year
- 0:11Speaker 1: last night over there at the NFL Honors.
- 0:14Speaker 2: I was going to n Honors.
- 0:15Speaker 1: I mean, in my mind, I always wanted to dress
- 0:17Speaker 1: up and win an award, and then there you are
- 0:19Speaker 1: doing it.
- 0:20Speaker 3: It was pretty cool. I think I probably could address better.
- 0:23Speaker 3: That's not you know, my forte. But you know, it's
- 0:25Speaker 3: cool walking the red carpet, seeing seeing a bunch of
- 0:27Speaker 3: different guys and you know, growing up watching the NFL
- 0:30Speaker 3: so much, so cool to be in that moment and
- 0:32Speaker 3: then to be able to, you know, win an award
- 0:34Speaker 3: and it is pretty special.
- 0:35Speaker 4: Right.
- 0:36Speaker 1: I'm coming from UCLA, good old u c l A
- 0:38Speaker 1: down in Los Angeles, the Baby Bears, Bruins.
- 0:42Speaker 2: I went to Cow so like I've always had that
- 0:44Speaker 2: good dig.
- 0:44Speaker 4: I don't know if I lost a little bit.
- 0:48Speaker 1: I mean it's been for a reason, as you guys did.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Head coach, we're in the same position college mind. We're
- 0:57Speaker 1: hoping you let you let your team and tackles this season.
- 1:01Speaker 1: I mean had a stellar rookie year. Clearly, why defensive
- 1:04Speaker 1: rookie year? What do you look forward to in that
- 1:06Speaker 1: in that in this first off season true offseason.
- 1:08Speaker 5: Yeah, well, the first thing is just getting a little rest.
- 1:10Speaker 5: You know, that rookie year.
- 1:11Speaker 4: Is pretty long, bro.
- 1:12Speaker 3: You go from your college season to combine to O
- 1:15Speaker 3: T A S to you know, playing the longest season
- 1:18Speaker 3: in your life. So we be able to exactly, so
- 1:22Speaker 3: being able to get a little rested will be nice.
- 1:24Speaker 3: And then just being able to build going into next year.
- 1:27Speaker 3: And you know, I think we got a great defense
- 1:29Speaker 3: that that we showed all year and just building off
- 1:31Speaker 3: that is.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Absolutely Any any rookie duties that that might have been
- 1:35Speaker 1: peculiar to your team and not maybe not mine.
- 1:37Speaker 4: I don't know about peculiar.
- 1:38Speaker 6: Uh.
- 1:39Speaker 3: You know, you have the rookie dinners, you have to
- 1:40Speaker 3: bring the snacks, decorate the room.
- 1:43Speaker 4: You know, I think todays are just Christmas.
- 1:45Speaker 3: See what we were supposed to do all holidays, but
- 1:47Speaker 3: sometimes you know, sometimes got lost and then it ended
- 1:49Speaker 3: up we got we got a Christmas tree there, you know,
- 1:52Speaker 3: had some had some good snacks. I will say I
- 1:54Speaker 3: was I was proud of the snack game I brought
- 1:56Speaker 3: play Other than that, zebra cakes. Don't even know what's
- 1:59Speaker 3: the what was the heaviest rotation of snack any hot chips? Really,
- 2:03Speaker 3: I go there and get three three's, Oh yeah, three
- 2:06Speaker 3: just so those uh you know, variety packs of just
- 2:09Speaker 3: eight different hot chips.
- 2:10Speaker 4: Yeah, and just set those up. They were happy and.
- 2:12Speaker 2: We were zebra cake heavy this year.
- 2:14Speaker 4: Oh yeah.
- 2:14Speaker 1: I was like, Dan, you can move, like, bring me
- 2:17Speaker 1: some actual chips. We were so sweet heavy. I didn't
- 2:20Speaker 1: even partake. Oh but when I think about you know
- 2:23Speaker 1: you you coming in U c l a second round?
- 2:26Speaker 1: You were like the day one starter, Like tell me
- 2:28Speaker 1: you see you see Miles Garrett in front of you.
- 2:30Speaker 1: You know you got you got dogs in front of you.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Huh part of the dog pound. How easy is to
- 2:35Speaker 1: buy in on part of your defense?
- 2:36Speaker 6: Oh?
- 2:37Speaker 4: I mean very easy.
- 2:37Speaker 3: I think you see all the guys you're taking the
- 2:39Speaker 3: field with and you either play up to that level
- 2:42Speaker 3: or you get left behind. And uh, you know, with
- 2:45Speaker 3: with those guys out there, it's very easy to go
- 2:47Speaker 3: out play with them. And everybody's playing with energy. I
- 2:49Speaker 3: mean we got guys all over the field. You want
- 2:52Speaker 3: to go against the secondary, you know you're not getting
- 2:54Speaker 3: you're not getting past us anywhere you want to hold
- 2:56Speaker 3: the ball, We're getting to the we're getting to the quarterback.
- 2:58Speaker 5: You want to run, you can't run anywhere.
- 3:00Speaker 3: So I think all over the field makes it easy
- 3:02Speaker 3: to go play with those guys and uh, you know,
- 3:04Speaker 3: it's a whole lot of fun.
- 3:05Speaker 2: I was like, did you have a welcome moment at
- 3:07Speaker 2: all this year?
- 3:08Speaker 3: I mean, you know, you have your you your plays
- 3:10Speaker 3: here and there. I didn't have like a welcome on
- 3:13Speaker 3: a field.
- 3:14Speaker 1: No.
- 3:15Speaker 3: I mean my welcome was probably I'm sitting there and
- 3:17Speaker 3: you know, look at my phone.
- 3:18Speaker 4: One of our guys just gets traded. Yeah. I was like, oh, well,
- 3:21Speaker 4: I guess that's that's the.
- 3:22Speaker 2: NFL portal time. Anybody can go a certain point of
- 3:26Speaker 2: the year, I'll say.
- 3:28Speaker 4: So.
- 3:28Speaker 1: So you just know you play in France, Saints, Uh huh.
- 3:33Speaker 1: How do we feel about a first Parisian game?
- 3:36Speaker 4: I mean I'm excited.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Yeah, we went to where we played in London this year. Yeah,
- 3:42Speaker 3: I don't think I left the hotel probably not a
- 3:44Speaker 3: great you know, I was you you know, but this time,
- 3:47Speaker 3: you know, you're in I think wherever we are pretty
- 3:51Speaker 3: sure you's got to go.
- 3:51Speaker 5: See a little bit, you know, So that'll be exciting.
- 3:54Speaker 2: You went to Paris, you went to London and to
- 3:56Speaker 2: go see Big Ben.
- 3:57Speaker 3: No, no, that's all you know, that was you know
- 4:00Speaker 3: that ball on my part.
- 4:01Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I'm gonna agree there. I didn't want to,
- 4:03Speaker 5: you know, to the man.
- 4:04Speaker 1: I can wait London, right right, blood sausage. I'll just
- 4:09Speaker 1: talk about football again. I mean, I don't know how
- 4:12Speaker 1: I didn't ask this question. You have, Miles Gett, I said,
- 4:14Speaker 1: Miles Geeded. I was like, O, he breaks a sad
- 4:16Speaker 1: record year one for you? What was that like? Witnessing legendary?
- 4:19Speaker 4: That was pretty cool to witness.
- 4:21Speaker 3: I mean, like you said, legendary and just watching it
- 4:23Speaker 3: throughout the whole year. Obviously he breaks the record in
- 4:26Speaker 3: the last week, which is a pretty special moment.
- 4:27Speaker 4: But I mean just watching.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Games where you you you get, you get done with
- 4:31Speaker 3: the game, You're like, he had how many sacks? And
- 4:33Speaker 3: then you're like, oh, oh, you know that's a one
- 4:34Speaker 3: time thing. He does it the next week, does it
- 4:36Speaker 3: the next week, and so you know, it's also great
- 4:38Speaker 3: to go out there and play with it. You know,
- 4:40Speaker 3: the whole area of the field shut down. Don't got
- 4:41Speaker 3: to worry about.
- 4:42Speaker 1: It, right, it's over. As a middle lineberger, you gotta
- 4:45Speaker 1: you know, drop whole coverage. You gotta drop to you
- 4:47Speaker 1: cover two.
- 4:48Speaker 5: You don't even get their quarterbacks already sick.
- 4:51Speaker 2: You don't have to go against the tight end. Who's
- 4:53Speaker 2: the best tight end you went against?
- 4:54Speaker 3: Oh there are some good ones. We played in San Francisco.
- 4:57Speaker 3: Kittle Kittle, I love I love watching just the tape.
- 5:00Speaker 3: I mean he'll do it all. I mean he's gonna
- 5:02Speaker 3: go run whatever ut but he's also going to go
- 5:03Speaker 3: block whoever he whoever he's supposed to block. And Cults,
- 5:07Speaker 3: they got a really good We didn't go against something,
- 5:09Speaker 3: but played Warren and yeah, played him in college.
- 5:15Speaker 5: Okay, so you knew, I mean you knew playing then
- 5:17Speaker 5: he was gonna be a good player, right.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Okay, okay, So so best best title you've played against
- 5:22Speaker 1: Bobby kittled Oh yeah, his hands down.
- 5:25Speaker 2: He got hurt. He got hurt by the time we
- 5:26Speaker 2: played him.
- 5:27Speaker 4: I was liked. I changed his lot for us. Oh yeah,
- 5:29Speaker 4: we like this exactly.
- 5:33Speaker 2: At this point, you know what, what what interests you?
- 5:35Speaker 6: What?
- 5:35Speaker 2: What can you actually do? What you can you have
- 5:37Speaker 2: time for hobbies?
- 5:38Speaker 3: Now, dude, I almost don't know what to do at
- 5:41Speaker 3: the time I have, you know, the last whole year
- 5:43Speaker 3: has just been football, and so I have some time
- 5:45Speaker 3: off and I'm sitting there like, I don't know. I
- 5:46Speaker 3: don't know what to do with some video games. You
- 5:48Speaker 3: got little guitar here and there, can you actually play?
- 5:51Speaker 3: I mean, I have a couple of songs memorized, but
- 5:54Speaker 3: that's about it. People say play this and I'm like, no, yes,
- 5:56Speaker 3: it ain't gonna happen if you don't know this song
- 5:59Speaker 3: I'm playing.
- 6:00Speaker 4: This ain't for you. You know, read a little bit here
- 6:03Speaker 4: and there.
- 6:03Speaker 2: No no garage band start up, No, no.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Tell me, uh like I said, tell me, tell me
- 6:10Speaker 1: what you're looking forward to this off seas Specifically, I'm
- 6:13Speaker 1: always gonna say, hey, navigate travel you got to see
- 6:16Speaker 1: a new country.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I gotta I gotta figure that out. I gotta
- 6:19Speaker 3: figure that out. I keep saying, yeah, I gotta go
- 6:21Speaker 3: travel somewhere. But you know, being in Cleveland and the snow,
- 6:24Speaker 3: I was just happy to get back home to LA
- 6:26Speaker 3: and you have some of the sunshine.
- 6:28Speaker 1: How is that playing in the snow? No weekend we
- 6:30Speaker 1: got practice out there. Oh yeah, I'm against it.
- 6:33Speaker 3: I see, I was okay with the snow, but there
- 6:36Speaker 3: was some games no snow. But like negative degrees. Ive
- 6:39Speaker 3: never been that cold in my life. You know, the
- 6:41Speaker 3: coldest game I played before this year is probably fifty right,
- 6:44Speaker 3: and now I'm playing in ten below and so that
- 6:47Speaker 3: was that was a little bit new.
- 6:48Speaker 4: But the snow is a little bit fun. I'll just say.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Being a part of the pack, and you're not a
- 6:52Speaker 1: part of the pack. You're a big you're a big
- 6:54Speaker 1: show off. Got big ten guy. Yeah you see like
- 6:56Speaker 1: bake ten. Yeah that's crazy, I said, yeah, you ahead.
- 7:00Speaker 1: I don't know anything about it. I think all's I
- 7:02Speaker 1: think all Stadium should have domes. And then they're the
- 7:05Speaker 1: dog Pound. Who's got like seventeen random happy fans? That
- 7:08Speaker 1: is negative five?
- 7:09Speaker 4: For sure?
- 7:09Speaker 3: It off right, and I'm like wow, exactly, Like I
- 7:12Speaker 3: could barely be on the field for however long the
- 7:14Speaker 3: drive is before I got to run back to the
- 7:16Speaker 3: bench and get the jacket.
- 7:18Speaker 4: On, running to the warmers.
- 7:20Speaker 2: I'm like on the bench, Oh wait, where's the fire pit?
- 7:22Speaker 4: Exactly. I put my whole foot in the pit.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Like I played Cleveland a couple years ago and I
- 7:25Speaker 1: was inspired and never played COCD again.
- 7:28Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 7:29Speaker 1: I appreciate you stopping by, brother. Be easy to be safe,
- 7:31Speaker 1: we wish you well for next year. Hope you have
- 7:33Speaker 1: a sophomore eleape. All right, I appreciate it.
- 7:36Speaker 2: I would say more winds, but.
- 7:38Speaker 4: We'll get some more.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Absolutely, I'm glad with Cam Jordan.
- 7:44Speaker 1: I'm super excited to think I got one of my OG's,
- 7:46Speaker 1: one of my legends, what I consider one of the
- 7:49Speaker 1: goats of the game, greatest of all time, tight end
- 7:52Speaker 1: Tony Gonzales. I appreciate you, know, first of all go Bears,
- 7:56Speaker 1: because I love it every time. Went to the University
- 7:58Speaker 1: of California at Berkeley. Your resume a loon's peaks for
- 8:02Speaker 1: volumes for self Hall of Fame.
- 8:04Speaker 2: What haven't you done?
- 8:05Speaker 1: I mean at Cal you played basketball and football, one
- 8:08Speaker 1: of the truest two sport athletes in the game. Of course,
- 8:11Speaker 1: you touched Atlanta at the tail in your career. After
- 8:14Speaker 1: being with Kansas City for so many years? How did
- 8:17Speaker 1: you even get to like, I know you got traded,
- 8:19Speaker 1: but how does how does that even happen?
- 8:21Speaker 4: You know, you go to Atlanta.
- 8:22Speaker 1: You make a statement saying if I would have played
- 8:24Speaker 1: Atlanta my whole career, it would have extended me by
- 8:26Speaker 1: a number of years.
- 8:27Speaker 4: Uh huh, Well, I don't know extended me I had.
- 8:30Speaker 7: This is where I got a lot of flak when
- 8:31Speaker 7: I did go to Atlanta from the people in Kansas City.
- 8:35Speaker 4: Is and this is what happens when you leave your team.
- 8:37Speaker 7: There's always gonna be a couple of diehards that are like,
- 8:38Speaker 7: what the hell, but you got traded? Yeah, Like, well
- 8:41Speaker 7: I got traded and we won two games last year,
- 8:44Speaker 7: and and I'm old, I'm going in year thirteen.
- 8:46Speaker 4: I need to I need to get out of here.
- 8:47Speaker 4: I need to go chase that ring.
- 8:48Speaker 7: And that's what happened when I went out to Atlanta.
- 8:51Speaker 7: It's just had Matt Ryan, had Roddy White, we drafted
- 8:55Speaker 7: Julio Ojojos. We're playing in the NFC Championship game. I
- 8:57Speaker 7: won some playoff playoff game. And that's where I say,
- 9:00Speaker 7: like it kind of completed my career from that sense,
- 9:03Speaker 7: like I would have never got that if I would
- 9:04Speaker 7: have stayed in Kansas City.
- 9:05Speaker 8: Uh.
- 9:05Speaker 7: And I probably could have stayed, but I had asked
- 9:08Speaker 7: for a trade. That that's what it was.
- 9:09Speaker 4: I had.
- 9:10Speaker 7: I had asked to get out of there because I
- 9:11Speaker 7: was I was gonna be thirty three years old, and
- 9:13Speaker 7: I'm like, I got one two years left. I didn't
- 9:15Speaker 7: think I was gonna play another five years, right, and
- 9:17Speaker 7: so it was it was kind of a simple decision
- 9:19Speaker 7: for me because it's like stay here, uh, keep the
- 9:22Speaker 7: fans happy, but you're gonna be unhappy and you're never
- 9:25Speaker 7: absolutely positively never gonna win a ring because we just
- 9:27Speaker 7: don't have the guys at that point in locker room. Yeah,
- 9:30Speaker 7: and I'm like, okay, or trade me to a team
- 9:32Speaker 7: like you got a franchise quarterback.
- 9:33Speaker 4: It's all about the quarterback.
- 9:34Speaker 7: You get Matt Ryan, It's like, Bam, we're gonna be good, okay,
- 9:37Speaker 7: And we did and we were really really good.
- 9:38Speaker 4: So that's that was.
- 9:39Speaker 7: One of the reasons why I say Atlanta kind of
- 9:41Speaker 7: completed my career. And I loved it out there and
- 9:43Speaker 7: playing with elite players, especially at that quarterback position.
- 9:47Speaker 2: In the backfield with that Michael Turner.
- 9:49Speaker 4: Michael Turner, Berner Turner, and John Abraham on defense. Absolutely, yeah,
- 9:53Speaker 4: we had some good players.
- 9:54Speaker 7: Well then I had to block your ass twice a year,
- 9:56Speaker 7: which I didn't like that too much, but it was good.
- 9:59Speaker 4: It's started off my career.
- 10:00Speaker 2: The rest of us, it's Tony Gonzalez.
- 10:03Speaker 1: I mean, what do you what do you think about
- 10:05Speaker 1: you know, uh, records being record for catches by Trey
- 10:09Speaker 1: mc m McBride. Yeah, I mean you said that record
- 10:12Speaker 1: in what twenty sixteen, and then he comes in and
- 10:15Speaker 1: you know that, what does.
- 10:19Speaker 2: One with one hundred whatever that was?
- 10:20Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, I think what do you have one hundred
- 10:22Speaker 7: and twenty or twenty six I mean, first of all, well,
- 10:26Speaker 7: it doesn't even matter you got that with the extra
- 10:28Speaker 7: game or not. He's he's catching a lot of balls.
- 10:29Speaker 7: One hundred and seventy targets for him.
- 10:32Speaker 8: Uh.
- 10:33Speaker 7: That's what this game has evolved to, though. I think
- 10:34Speaker 7: you got to have a guy a tight end like that.
- 10:37Speaker 7: You played with Jimmy Graham, you played with some really
- 10:39Speaker 7: good Watson, Yeah, Ben Watson. But the evolution of this position,
- 10:43Speaker 7: the way it's been going, I mean, these guys are
- 10:45Speaker 7: two hundred and forty five hundred and fifty pounds wide receivers.
- 10:49Speaker 7: Now that's heavy and can by matchup nightmare can't can't
- 10:53Speaker 7: guard that. You mean put a linebacker on me, I'm
- 10:55Speaker 7: gonna outrun you usually. I mean if you'll run around
- 10:57Speaker 7: a four four four five, uh, and then you put
- 10:59Speaker 7: a dB me, I'm just gonna jump up over you
- 11:01Speaker 7: and catch the ball.
- 11:01Speaker 4: And I'm just a big body.
- 11:03Speaker 7: So that's the it's the matchup nightmare for these guys
- 11:05Speaker 7: in Trey is is the best tight in the league
- 11:08Speaker 7: right now, right now, right.
- 11:10Speaker 4: Right now, I mean the brock Bowers, I would say
- 11:11Speaker 4: they're the best.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Say, is there any other standout young tight ends like
- 11:14Speaker 1: brock Bowers or you know you were Tyler Warren or
- 11:17Speaker 1: Tyler war you know Joan Johnson over the Saints that
- 11:19Speaker 1: you that you do watch?
- 11:20Speaker 7: Yeah, I watch I watched Tyler Warren, I watched brock Bowers,
- 11:24Speaker 7: Trey h I love adult and Kinkaid is a good one.
- 11:27Speaker 4: Sam Laporter from from Detroit. All those guy Dan.
- 11:30Speaker 7: You know you if you if you could pick them
- 11:32Speaker 7: out in the lineup, they all look just alike to hell.
- 11:35Speaker 4: Yeah you watch it? Yeah watch five.
- 11:37Speaker 1: You know Travis kelcey type builds when he was when
- 11:40Speaker 1: he was a younger.
- 11:41Speaker 4: Yep.
- 11:42Speaker 2: I mean they're just they're they're ready to run.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Trey McBride in the middle of games like, you know,
- 11:46Speaker 1: they go pass me the ball and I'm gonna catch. Yes,
- 11:48Speaker 1: I said, you know what, I like this kid, I said,
- 11:50Speaker 1: we love we love people that exude confidence.
- 11:52Speaker 7: Yeah, I just hope, you know, for guys like that,
- 11:55Speaker 7: I just hope they get the opportunity to be on
- 11:56Speaker 7: that big stage like Travis Kelce and George Kettle.
- 11:59Speaker 4: Don't forget George Kid is one of the best to
- 12:00Speaker 4: ever do it.
- 12:01Speaker 7: And you play in Super Bowls, that's where you kind
- 12:03Speaker 7: of get to show the world what you can do.
- 12:05Speaker 7: Trade McBride, I said, he's probably the best tight in
- 12:07Speaker 7: the league right now, but a lot of people wouldn't
- 12:09Speaker 7: know who he is. They wouldn't know what he looks
- 12:11Speaker 7: like or any because I haven't rely seen him play
- 12:12Speaker 7: because he's on a team like Arizona. So I hope
- 12:14Speaker 7: they all get a chance to go out there and
- 12:16Speaker 7: be on a really good team so they can get known,
- 12:18Speaker 7: no doubt.
- 12:18Speaker 1: So for you, it's more tight ends the better. You
- 12:20Speaker 1: noted the twelve personnels, the thirteen personnels. How do you
- 12:23Speaker 1: feel about thirteen personnel?
- 12:25Speaker 4: I love it.
- 12:26Speaker 7: I think it's great. You see a lot of teams
- 12:27Speaker 7: are moving toward that's kind of the vogue, the trend.
- 12:30Speaker 7: You know, the NFL always has trendss a goal line
- 12:31Speaker 7: looking see and I think that's what they're going to
- 12:33Speaker 7: go to because of that matchup problem. It's okay, we're
- 12:36Speaker 7: gonna put big guys on the field, but now these
- 12:39Speaker 7: guys are gonna go out and catch balls.
- 12:40Speaker 4: Now too, So you put your big guys out here
- 12:42Speaker 4: to match up. Yeah, you don't have the CJ.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Mosley is the last of the Mario Davis being six
- 12:47Speaker 1: y three and still being able to run.
- 12:49Speaker 2: A four or five.
- 12:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Like it's a smaller, lighter linebackers have sort of taking
- 12:52Speaker 1: the league, and now you're going to the bigger, faster,
- 12:55Speaker 1: tight end.
- 12:55Speaker 4: Yeah, let's go.
- 12:56Speaker 7: How about Darnhill Washington too?
- 13:00Speaker 4: I mean, why are you sitting him?
- 13:02Speaker 1: And you're no longer fearing being over the middle anymore
- 13:05Speaker 1: because defenders can't hit you and they literally have to
- 13:09Speaker 1: wrap out a five to ten nickel.
- 13:12Speaker 7: I think tight ends the tight end position where we're
- 13:15Speaker 7: at Now, it's gonna get even more relevant, uh more
- 13:19Speaker 7: treaty more people, More offenses are going to go to
- 13:22Speaker 7: putting these big guys out there because of the rules
- 13:24Speaker 7: the way they're set up. Now, he can't hit them,
- 13:26Speaker 7: you know, to these guys, Darnel Washington to me, I'm
- 13:29Speaker 7: telling he to me, he's the most entertaining player to
- 13:31Speaker 7: watch in the NFL when he gets the ball in
- 13:33Speaker 7: his hands.
- 13:33Speaker 4: Yeah, it is the most fun to watch.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Looking for contact, you know.
- 13:37Speaker 4: Oh, it's the best. Is the best?
- 13:39Speaker 1: I just wish, like again when I enter the league
- 13:40Speaker 1: twenty eleven, you went over the middle, you guys, you
- 13:43Speaker 1: had Rowan Harper coming down and smacking.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Oh, now as you go over the middle and like
- 13:47Speaker 2: his wrap up tackles.
- 13:48Speaker 1: I remember a guy he said, abdual Caduce out there
- 13:52Speaker 1: put somebody asleep one time going over the middle, and
- 13:54Speaker 1: I was like, that's the way you play football.
- 13:56Speaker 2: And now that would have been three flags plus three fins.
- 13:58Speaker 7: Yes, and you're gone. He probably kicked out of ye
- 14:01Speaker 7: get him out, Get him out.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Of course we're here for super Bowl week, so I mean,
- 14:05Speaker 1: let's just talk about it. Who do you have winning?
- 14:07Speaker 8: Uh?
- 14:08Speaker 7: Well, you know we watched we had both these teams
- 14:11Speaker 7: on Thursday Night football this year. Close yep. Uh, both
- 14:16Speaker 7: well coached. Has some good players. Obviously quarterbacks are good.
- 14:19Speaker 7: But Seattle that the defensive side of the ball for them.
- 14:22Speaker 7: I think they're probably the best defense that I saw
- 14:26Speaker 7: in them in Houston. There we go the best two
- 14:28Speaker 7: defenses I saw, and I just think Drake may as
- 14:30Speaker 7: good as he's played. I just don't know if we'll
- 14:32Speaker 7: have that much success against this defense consistently.
- 14:34Speaker 4: So Seattle's gonna win this game. I think. I think
- 14:36Speaker 4: it might be a runaway. I don't know if it'll
- 14:37Speaker 4: be that close.
- 14:38Speaker 1: I mean a second a second year, second year quarterback
- 14:41Speaker 1: who's at one point had all the m v P chants,
- 14:44Speaker 1: and you know, they say, you're only as good as
- 14:45Speaker 1: your last game, and so to let luster we get
- 14:48Speaker 1: the weather happened, but there was still the first half
- 14:50Speaker 1: that was perfect conditions. Yeah, you know, he had he
- 14:54Speaker 1: did have to play some of the top defenses.
- 14:56Speaker 7: Yeah, so we'll see. We'll say it's gonna be good.
- 14:58Speaker 7: I hope it's a good game, I really do. But
- 15:00Speaker 7: I just keep hoping for an electric game, like just
- 15:02Speaker 7: let it be electric. Yeah, And I'm rooting for Sam.
- 15:04Speaker 7: I am rooting for Sam. I mean his story. I
- 15:06Speaker 7: think that's one of the best stories you can think
- 15:08Speaker 7: of for a football you.
- 15:09Speaker 1: See quarterback in my mind, So the actually produced a
- 15:12Speaker 1: good quarterback, not like col baby.
- 15:16Speaker 4: He's not a cal bear, but is what it is.
- 15:18Speaker 4: And by the way, I'm counting Fana Mendoz He's a bear.
- 15:20Speaker 4: That's great.
- 15:21Speaker 2: You don't go for multiple years and go for you know,
- 15:23Speaker 2: Indiana one.
- 15:24Speaker 4: He was there six months. Six months.
- 15:25Speaker 7: Yeah yeah, So what are you doing here with the
- 15:28Speaker 7: with DraftKings. Well, I'm out here at Draft Kings is
- 15:31Speaker 7: the number one place for live sports betting the Super
- 15:33Speaker 7: Bowl Sunday, so that.
- 15:34Speaker 2: I'm scared of.
- 15:35Speaker 7: Well, you could play some live bets during the game
- 15:36Speaker 7: and get your chance to win five million dollars worth
- 15:39Speaker 7: of prizes that they're gonna be getting during the game.
- 15:40Speaker 4: So remember it's for fun, it's entertainment.
- 15:42Speaker 7: Enjoy the game, enjoy the action that you put on
- 15:45Speaker 7: the game, and it's a beautiful Sunday for.
- 15:47Speaker 2: You, no doubt.
- 15:47Speaker 1: How do you how do we feel about Toash Lupoy
- 15:49Speaker 1: over at Cal new head coach got in fact Ron Rivera.
- 15:53Speaker 2: It's a GM over Yeah, which is crazy.
- 15:56Speaker 4: You know, just think.
- 15:56Speaker 2: About the tide is changing hopefully in a great way
- 15:59Speaker 2: for us.
- 16:00Speaker 4: Yeah. Well, you know, we me and you, we always
- 16:01Speaker 4: get together.
- 16:02Speaker 7: We talk about Cal and what they do, the players
- 16:05Speaker 7: that they have produced.
- 16:06Speaker 4: In the NFL.
- 16:07Speaker 7: Long, guy, I put it right up there with Florida State, Alabama.
- 16:10Speaker 7: The type of players that go to the League impact
- 16:13Speaker 7: guys that play twelve thirteen, the Hall of Fame career
- 16:16Speaker 7: type guys. So yeah, I think this will help continue
- 16:19Speaker 7: that tradition. Ron Rivera is one of my guys. I
- 16:21Speaker 7: love Ron. Yeah, and he's and that's what he's doing
- 16:23Speaker 7: for that program. You know, hopefully they get a little money.
- 16:25Speaker 7: So it seems like that's what the name of the
- 16:27Speaker 7: game is now right here.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Valley and we got we got the alums to do it.
- 16:32Speaker 4: Yeah, it's time you see.
- 16:34Speaker 1: You see teams like Texas, you know, Texas and all
- 16:36Speaker 1: Texas take all of a sudden have these playoff roster tity.
- 16:38Speaker 4: It takes money to takes money. Got to have it nowadays.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Indeed, I appreciate you for having it, for stopping by.
- 16:44Speaker 1: I know you got thirty five of these interviews. Anytime
- 16:46Speaker 1: I get a cal beer, I'm excited.
- 16:48Speaker 7: I try to stay busy up here, but yeah, thanks
- 16:49Speaker 7: for having me. Man, you're doing a great job. I
- 16:51Speaker 7: appreciate it, no doubt.
- 16:55Speaker 4: All right, and here we are.
- 16:56Speaker 1: We're back on media row in San Francisco, the Bay Area.
- 17:02Speaker 1: Back off the edge of podcast me host Cam Joe
- 17:05Speaker 1: and I got my guy Tomorrow Hamley here just finished
- 17:07Speaker 1: with your five.
- 17:08Speaker 6: In the league, climbing up there.
- 17:10Speaker 2: I'm not gonna lie to you the fact that three
- 17:14Speaker 2: years ago we were all.
- 17:15Speaker 4: Praying for you.
- 17:16Speaker 6: I appreciate it like you rose back. You know what
- 17:19Speaker 6: I'm saying for show.
- 17:21Speaker 1: It's amazing what you've been able to do. But you know, you,
- 17:24Speaker 1: you being you have played play for the Bills. Where
- 17:27Speaker 1: you're at now? Do where do you see yourself in
- 17:30Speaker 1: the future? Man?
- 17:32Speaker 8: You know I just finished up year five. Yeah, I
- 17:35Speaker 8: am a free agent right now. But you know, man,
- 17:38Speaker 8: my heart is always in Buffalo. My heart is always
- 17:40Speaker 8: in Buffalo, regardless of you know, my future with the
- 17:43Speaker 8: team or whatever. I feel like I will always be
- 17:45Speaker 8: a Buffalo Bill. I'm pretty sure you can relate to
- 17:48Speaker 8: that feeling, you know what I mean?
- 17:50Speaker 6: Uh, So, you.
- 17:51Speaker 8: Know I'm I'm guided by God, you know. So I
- 17:55Speaker 8: feel like I'm gonna be wherever I'm supposed to be.
- 17:57Speaker 8: I know, I got a lot more ball left. I
- 17:59Speaker 8: didn't have the season I wanted this year. I had
- 18:01Speaker 8: peck surgery, but I had the season I needed, and
- 18:04Speaker 8: I think I used that time wisely, Like that was
- 18:07Speaker 8: my thing.
- 18:07Speaker 6: From the day of the injury.
- 18:09Speaker 8: I knew, like you got a choice like you could
- 18:11Speaker 8: either trip out this or you can use this time wisely.
- 18:14Speaker 6: And I made sure every day I used it wisely.
- 18:17Speaker 8: So I feel like I prolonged my career five years
- 18:21Speaker 8: or however long I wanted to be just off of
- 18:22Speaker 8: that time I had, you know, stepped away from the
- 18:25Speaker 8: game right way.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Yeah, bro, I mean all right, so so you know
- 18:28Speaker 1: the inner workings, right, Bill's go ahead.
- 18:31Speaker 2: Fire John McDermott.
- 18:32Speaker 6: Yeah, for sure.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Higher in building talent with Joe Brady, So a.
- 18:36Speaker 6: Little familiarity there, yeah, for sure.
- 18:37Speaker 2: How you like Joe?
- 18:39Speaker 6: I love Joe Man.
- 18:40Speaker 8: I got a long relationship with go ten years and
- 18:43Speaker 8: ten years ago, I was a recruit for Penn State.
- 18:47Speaker 8: You know, they were in my top two schools. I
- 18:49Speaker 8: went to Pitt but you know, Penn State that was
- 18:52Speaker 8: my next option. Joe Brady was a GA at Penn State.
- 18:55Speaker 8: It was riding us around on the golf court and
- 18:57Speaker 8: stuff like that, like you know, blowing up my d
- 19:00Speaker 8: and stuff like for Penn State. So it's it's definitely
- 19:03Speaker 8: like great to see his trajectory. It shows how driven
- 19:06Speaker 8: and how motivated it is, and how how much he
- 19:08Speaker 8: has a will to win, you know, to to truly
- 19:11Speaker 8: always progress in his career. So I'm excited for it, man,
- 19:15Speaker 8: And you know, Buffalo is a place where you know,
- 19:17Speaker 8: we're blessed to have good people in the building top down,
- 19:20Speaker 8: and Coach Sean was a big part of that for sure.
- 19:23Speaker 6: Every day that he walked in the room to you know,
- 19:26Speaker 6: lead us.
- 19:27Speaker 8: You know, I learned something that I'm gonna apply and
- 19:29Speaker 8: tell my kids one day when I have them, or
- 19:32Speaker 8: you know, just I want to go add it to
- 19:34Speaker 8: how my parents live, just because you know, he's preaching
- 19:37Speaker 8: to us about not only just being players, but truly
- 19:40Speaker 8: just being great men.
- 19:41Speaker 6: So excited for it all.
- 19:43Speaker 8: When you hire in the building, it just shows you
- 19:46Speaker 8: that you have great people already in the building. And
- 19:48Speaker 8: that's something that I noticed early on from my career,
- 19:51Speaker 8: like year one to two, to three to four. As
- 19:53Speaker 8: change always happened, it always happened from within. So you
- 19:57Speaker 8: know that's how I always knew that, you know, what
- 20:00Speaker 8: we got here is something special.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Absolutely. I mean you talk about how close the locker
- 20:05Speaker 1: room felt like looked like from the outside in man,
- 20:07Speaker 1: bro I mean, clearly, you guys have all the all
- 20:10Speaker 1: the faith in the world and each other, especially with
- 20:12Speaker 1: the quarterback like Josh Allen for sure. I mean you
- 20:16Speaker 1: got the way you guys lost to the Broncos.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Hurt had to hurt.
- 20:20Speaker 6: Been there, done that, chrissed off.
- 20:22Speaker 2: But what does that do for motivation for your off season?
- 20:24Speaker 8: Yeah, look like an l like that for surely hurts,
- 20:28Speaker 8: you know what I mean, And especially just speaking of
- 20:30Speaker 8: my specifically my specific situation. You know, I worked my
- 20:35Speaker 8: ass off for the last three months to make it
- 20:37Speaker 8: back to be able to have a chance to play,
- 20:38Speaker 8: and you know I was right there, Like week eighteen,
- 20:42Speaker 8: I went to go get cleared, Like I didn't even
- 20:44Speaker 8: attend the game of our last game of the season.
- 20:47Speaker 8: I flew out to my surgeon to get clear, and
- 20:49Speaker 8: I got clear, and like from that point on, it
- 20:51Speaker 8: was a ramp up, you know what I'm saying to
- 20:53Speaker 8: getting back. So you know, if we would have won
- 20:55Speaker 8: that game and made it to the AFC Championship, I.
- 20:58Speaker 6: Would have had a chance return.
- 21:00Speaker 8: I would have had another return, and I would have
- 21:03Speaker 8: been able to, you know, have a chance to get
- 21:04Speaker 8: out there with my teammates man and just and just
- 21:06Speaker 8: help us win. You know, I've played playoff football. I
- 21:09Speaker 8: have so many starts in our in our defense. You know,
- 21:12Speaker 8: I really feel like it help us win. So that
- 21:14Speaker 8: was tough for me. That was that was one of
- 21:17Speaker 8: the toughest reasons. What made the laws tough because I
- 21:20Speaker 8: gave every day. I committed every day to try to
- 21:23Speaker 8: make it back like that was my motivation.
- 21:25Speaker 6: So it was tough.
- 21:27Speaker 8: But uh man, you know how this it's only one winner,
- 21:31Speaker 8: you know, so like the time when you lose, to
- 21:34Speaker 8: about super Bowl and you see other people losing, it
- 21:37Speaker 8: kind of make you just be like, well, you know
- 21:39Speaker 8: they got the same feeling as us, and you just
- 21:42Speaker 8: gear up for next years.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Indivision any same division opponent super Bowl different with this Indivision.
- 21:50Speaker 4: It really do. It really does.
- 21:52Speaker 8: But you know, I'd rather root for them than root
- 21:55Speaker 8: for anybody else. And I got I got, you know,
- 21:58Speaker 8: real relationships with people our team, you know, people who
- 22:01Speaker 8: then came through our building.
- 22:03Speaker 6: So you know, I want to see them succeed.
- 22:05Speaker 8: You know, if it's their moment, it's their moment, it's
- 22:06Speaker 8: their time, and you know I'd rather it for them
- 22:09Speaker 8: than anyone else, no doubt.
- 22:10Speaker 1: I mean that's like you the Broncos coaching staff and players.
- 22:13Speaker 1: It felt like it's very new Orleans East. So if
- 22:15Speaker 1: they would have gone over, like all right, man, it's cool. No, Sean,
- 22:18Speaker 1: I know Street, I know, you know so many coaches
- 22:21Speaker 1: and players.
- 22:22Speaker 8: We're starting to become New Orleans East a little bit. Man,
- 22:24Speaker 8: Joe Brady being down there, I've seen our O C.
- 22:28Speaker 6: We hired. He was y'all. He was y'all O C
- 22:30Speaker 6: from like oh.
- 22:31Speaker 8: Nine to I looked at it like he was the
- 22:33Speaker 8: OC in three different decades.
- 22:35Speaker 6: I'm like, okay, yeah.
- 22:40Speaker 4: Man, what do you what do you do with your foundation?
- 22:43Speaker 6: So the chasing them was foundation.
- 22:44Speaker 4: Man.
- 22:45Speaker 8: You know, our focus has always been youth empowerment. You know,
- 22:49Speaker 8: growing up, I was that young kid, you know, who
- 22:52Speaker 8: needed the help, who needed the support of people that
- 22:54Speaker 8: truly cared about that kid. And you know, I don't
- 22:57Speaker 8: want to say I never got it because I had
- 22:59Speaker 8: really good people in my life, my parents, who who
- 23:01Speaker 8: gave me the structure and the discipline to be able
- 23:04Speaker 8: to make it. But you know, I always was searching
- 23:06Speaker 8: for that role model figure that can tell me, yes, no,
- 23:10Speaker 8: do this, don't do that, stay away from that. So
- 23:12Speaker 8: I turned myself into it. And what I mean by
- 23:14Speaker 8: that is one as soon as I made it, I
- 23:16Speaker 8: wanted to give back to my community, so I started
- 23:19Speaker 8: my Chasing Them Foundation. I hosted toy drives for the
- 23:21Speaker 8: kids just to kind of, you know, bring the community
- 23:24Speaker 8: together on a on a holiday that the world feels everywhere.
- 23:30Speaker 8: And you know, that's how my that's how my foundation
- 23:32Speaker 8: got started within youth empowerment. And now we've now one
- 23:36Speaker 8: of ournother pillars is you know, heart related issues.
- 23:39Speaker 6: You know, just we traveled the world.
- 23:41Speaker 8: We've been in six different countries teaching people hands only CPR.
- 23:45Speaker 8: We're forty thousand dollars away from giving out a million
- 23:48Speaker 8: dollars in ADS, which is the device that saved my
- 23:52Speaker 8: life on the field. So and leading and Southern cardiac
- 23:55Speaker 8: or rest is the leading cause of death and youth sports,
- 23:58Speaker 8: you know, kids hearts actually stopping and then them not
- 24:02Speaker 8: knowing CPO or someone not knowing where an AED is
- 24:05Speaker 8: to be able to, you know, make sure these kids
- 24:07Speaker 8: play safely. So you know, I took it upon myself
- 24:11Speaker 8: through my foundation to tackle that mission. And you know,
- 24:14Speaker 8: we partner with Stand Together because Stand Together cares about
- 24:17Speaker 8: empowering the people who truly care about doing the work
- 24:21Speaker 8: in the grassroots, you know, empowering the people that are
- 24:23Speaker 8: closest to the problem, and you know, it's not really
- 24:27Speaker 8: too many places where you can it's not really too
- 24:29Speaker 8: many partnerships where you truly find alignment. And from top down,
- 24:34Speaker 8: you feel like everybody has a good heart.
- 24:37Speaker 6: And you know, that's what I've always been about.
- 24:39Speaker 8: I've always been selective, like with my partnerships and who
- 24:41Speaker 8: I've wanted to like be in my ecosystem. And I
- 24:45Speaker 8: can appreciate when other people are like that because you know,
- 24:48Speaker 8: you truly understand and you truly want to protect what
- 24:50Speaker 8: you have going on. And just what I'm able to
- 24:53Speaker 8: do with my foundation and stand together is it's amazing.
- 24:57Speaker 6: We had fun this year with I cause my cleats
- 24:59Speaker 6: as well.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Absolutely, I mean from Christian Brother. Christian Brother, I heard
- 25:02Speaker 1: you got baptized as well.
- 25:04Speaker 8: Hey, bro, yeah, that's a huge leaping faith, don't Wondernath
- 25:07Speaker 8: January ninth. And you know what, Bro, what really what
- 25:11Speaker 8: really gave me the time to really like find the
- 25:14Speaker 8: alignment was my injury. Like you know, for the last
- 25:18Speaker 8: three years, you know, I've truly just been trying to
- 25:20Speaker 8: like treadwater, stay afloat, like make sure I'm making all
- 25:23Speaker 8: the right moves to you know, make sure that my
- 25:26Speaker 8: earthly world is able to take care of my family
- 25:30Speaker 8: here and things like that. You know, you got to
- 25:32Speaker 8: live that life, you know what I mean. But you
- 25:35Speaker 8: know I truly care about that spiritual version of myself too,
- 25:39Speaker 8: and I always, always from a young kid, I felt
- 25:42Speaker 8: the alignment, and I felt the calling from God and
- 25:45Speaker 8: I always heard his voice, you know, so you know,
- 25:48Speaker 8: just to have like an experience in front of the
- 25:50Speaker 8: world where people have a spiritual emotional tide to me.
- 25:55Speaker 8: You know, I've been that person, like I've been that
- 25:58Speaker 8: same person, but my injury truly led me to finding
- 26:02Speaker 8: the alignment to uh getting baptized earlier this year January ninth,
- 26:06Speaker 8: actually a few days after my three year anniversary of
- 26:09Speaker 8: my Southern CARDI your acharrest on the field, no pun intended.
- 26:13Speaker 8: You know, I'm number three, so you know, I'm in
- 26:14Speaker 8: my third year of my new life.
- 26:16Speaker 6: I just got baptized.
- 26:18Speaker 8: Like the alignment truly feels like it's right on point, bro,
- 26:21Speaker 8: And you know, I just really feel like, you know,
- 26:23Speaker 8: my purpose here is to continue to, like like always,
- 26:27Speaker 8: you know, like seek God first, allow him to tell
- 26:30Speaker 8: me what I need to be doing.
- 26:31Speaker 6: And then you know complete his mission.
- 26:33Speaker 2: No doubt. Absolutely, we love we love to hear that
- 26:36Speaker 2: for sure.
- 26:36Speaker 1: But I just need to know who's wunning the Shot
- 26:38Speaker 1: Bowl this week for the Patriots. But are you being
- 26:41Speaker 1: a realist?
- 26:42Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm being a realist.
- 26:43Speaker 8: Great, Look, I've it's been it's been Seattle biased. I
- 26:49Speaker 8: don't know if we're just closer to Seattle or what.
- 26:51Speaker 8: But I don't see how people think it's going to
- 26:56Speaker 8: be like a landslide of just Seattle. Like maybe I
- 26:59Speaker 8: didn't pay attention enough to Seattle this season. Maybe like
- 27:03Speaker 8: you know, Monday nights or whatever, you know, maybe they
- 27:06Speaker 8: have enough Monday night games or something for me to
- 27:08Speaker 8: really like get up on them. But they went on
- 27:11Speaker 8: our schedule last year. We played them and like you know,
- 27:13Speaker 8: we had our way a little bit. And it's not
- 27:15Speaker 8: the same team at all. But I like New England man,
- 27:18Speaker 8: Like I think they can play ball. They got good
- 27:20Speaker 8: special teams too. They got they got good offense, they
- 27:23Speaker 8: got great running backs you know they have. They got
- 27:26Speaker 8: a good tight end, they got, they got good defense.
- 27:29Speaker 8: Like the corners are elite. Their corners are elite.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Bro Patriots have one elite corner probably probably the best
- 27:37Speaker 1: corner of the game, second best corner of the game.
- 27:39Speaker 8: Pascertain Christian like he's up there for show. But but
- 27:44Speaker 8: but I think the Pictures got two E league corners.
- 27:47Speaker 8: They got they got two WE league corner they got
- 27:50Speaker 8: to Christian, Christian nice, Christian nice.
- 27:53Speaker 6: They got. They got dogs, Bro, I like that group.
- 27:56Speaker 8: They got Splaine he I know him from Stiller days,
- 27:59Speaker 8: just being a young Steller fan in Pittsburgh. He's been
- 28:02Speaker 8: a dog. He's one of the Raiders. Now he's in
- 28:05Speaker 8: New England. They got real leaders, Broy. Like I've been
- 28:08Speaker 8: on the team with Diggs. I know his impact as
- 28:11Speaker 8: a as a teammate to where like he gets the
- 28:13Speaker 8: best out of everybody.
- 28:15Speaker 6: Like I've been on the team with Mac Collins.
- 28:16Speaker 8: I know his I know his aura and what he
- 28:19Speaker 8: brings to the team as a leader in the locker
- 28:21Speaker 8: room like ethic. It matters, Bro, Like it matters like
- 28:25Speaker 8: it matters man. If if I could be in charge, Bro,
- 28:30Speaker 8: I want them guys on my team for sure. Yeah,
- 28:33Speaker 8: so I gotta roll with them, you know, I gotta
- 28:35Speaker 8: roll with them. I know what it's like playing with them,
- 28:37Speaker 8: so big game. I just I just hope everything goes
- 28:39Speaker 8: their way Bro. I want to see him when I
- 28:41Speaker 8: love that.
- 28:42Speaker 1: Appreciate you for coming in Cam Jordan, your hoes, my
- 28:46Speaker 1: guy tomorrow, Hamley
