- 0:08We all recognize the input we receive from the five physical
- 0:12senses. These perceptions form the basis
- 0:16for much of our interpretation of our reality and our decision
- 0:20processes. Most people never consider that
- 0:24there are other senses possible or available to us.
- 0:28We do recognize that there are other senses in various animal
- 0:32species, such as the sonar or echolocation scents used by
- 0:37dolphins, homing scents available to many species, not
- 0:41just homing pigeons, et cetera. However, if we reflect for a
- 0:47moment, we may recognize that on various occasions we have
- 0:52ourselves received input from senses other than the five we
- 0:57ordinarily recognize. Some people remark that they
- 1:01have an innate sense of direction and can always somehow
- 1:05align themselves in the world. Others note that they have the
- 1:10ability to judge the weight of something by holding it in their
- 1:13hand. Others sense the vital body or
- 1:17aura of other individuals. Some can feel changes in the
- 1:22energetic action of the moon, which is known to impact tides
- 1:26of the ocean as well. People can many times sense when
- 1:30someone is observing them without directly seeing it
- 1:34occurring. Others report a feeling of
- 1:38unease in certain locations where danger may be approaching
- 1:41them. Some people report a connection
- 1:44to another individual far away who may be thinking about them,
- 1:49or, as in the case of some documented cases out of the
- 1:52First World War when a close relation was injured and dying
- 1:57on the battlefield. Still others report a sense of a
- 2:01different atmosphere in one locale or another that may
- 2:05register subtle physical characteristics, differences in
- 2:10weight of the atmosphere, et cetera.
- 2:13All of these are signs of additional senses that provide
- 2:17us input without our overtly recognizing where and how that
- 2:22input is reaching us. There is of course also an
- 2:27entire range of powers that include telepathic
- 2:30communication, remote viewing, etcetera.
- 2:34Many of these are clearly represent physical senses, while
- 2:40others may belong more properly to the vital aspect of our being
- 2:45or direct powers of mind, not specifically based in the five
- 2:49physical senses of perception. A disciple asks.
- 2:55You said that our body can become receptive to forces which
- 2:58are concentrated in certain places or in certain countries.
- 3:03But can we have this physical sensation without a preliminary
- 3:07preparation of the consciousness?
- 3:10Or is it truly a spontaneous sensation like heat, cold or
- 3:15goose flesh, for example? The mother responds, quote, if
- 3:22it were the result of a thought or a will, it would not be an
- 3:25experience and it would have no value.
- 3:28You understand? I affirm absolutely that any
- 3:33experience that is the result of a thought or preconceived will
- 3:37has no value from the spiritual point of view.
- 3:41End Quote. But were you not in a state, so
- 3:45to say, favorable to this sensation?
- 3:50The mothers replies quote, there are people who live constantly
- 3:55in a higher consciousness while others have to make an effort to
- 3:59enter there. But here it is an altogether
- 4:03different thing. In the experience I was speaking
- 4:07about in the preceding talk, Mother had described how on her
- 4:11return from Japan, she had all of a sudden physically felt the
- 4:15atmosphere of Sri Aurobindo at a distance of two nautical miles
- 4:19from Pondicherry. What gave it all its value was
- 4:24that I was not expecting it at all, not at all.
- 4:28I knew very well I had been for a very long time, and
- 4:32continuously in spiritual contact, if I may say so, with
- 4:37the atmosphere of Shriorobindo, but I had never thought of the
- 4:41possibility of a modification in the physical air, and I was not
- 4:46expecting it in the least. And it was this that gave the
- 4:51whole value to the experience which came like that quite
- 4:55suddenly, just as when one enters a place with another
- 4:59temperature or another altitude. I do not know if you have
- 5:03noticed that the air you breathe is not always the same, that
- 5:07there are different vibrations in the air of 1 country and in
- 5:11the air of another, in the air of one place and in the air of
- 5:15another. If indeed you are accustomed to
- 5:19have this perception of the subtle physical, you can say
- 5:22immediately, ah, the air is as in France, or this is the air of
- 5:28Japan. It is something indefinable,
- 5:32like taste or smell. But in this instance it is not
- 5:36that. It is a perception of another
- 5:38sense, it is a physical sense. It is not a vital or mental
- 5:43sense. It is a sense of the physical
- 5:45world, but there are other senses than the five that we
- 5:49usually have at our disposal. There are many others.
- 5:54In fact, for the physical being, note that I say the physical
- 5:59being to be fully developed, it must have 12 senses.
- 6:04It is one of these senses which gives you the kind of perception
- 6:07I was Speaking of. You cannot say that it is taste,
- 6:11smell, hearing, etcetera, but it is something which gives you a
- 6:16very precise impression of the difference of quality, and it is
- 6:21very precise, as distinct as seeing black and white.
- 6:27It is truly a sense perception. End Quote Reference Sri
