- 0:02Speaker 1: Apostle Fermi Lazarus is a man raised by God to
- 0:06Speaker 1: demonstrate his wisdom and authority to the last day church.
- 0:10Speaker 1: He is the lead pastor of Sphere of Light Church
- 0:13Speaker 1: and God told him years ago that a time will
- 0:16Speaker 1: come where my wisdom will be needed to navigate tough
- 0:19Speaker 1: times in the body of Christ. Then I will cause
- 0:23Speaker 1: your voice to be heard and all who pay attention
- 0:27Speaker 1: to my word on your lips will will not lack
- 0:30Speaker 1: light and direction. He is a man sent from God,
- 0:35Speaker 1: sent to raise God's end time always. With Apostle Fermi Lazarus,
- 0:40Speaker 1: every minute counts as you listen attentively.
- 0:45Speaker 2: We bless your holy name, Jesus. There is none to
- 0:51Speaker 2: be compared with you, Lord. You are the Lord strong
- 0:55Speaker 2: and mighty. You are the Lord mighty in battle. Who
- 0:57Speaker 2: is like unto thee, O Lord? You are glorious in holiness,
- 1:01Speaker 2: and you are fearful in praise. You do wonders, you
- 1:05Speaker 2: perform miracles. We give you praise. You are the king
- 1:09Speaker 2: that installs kings, and the one that removes princes. To
- 1:14Speaker 2: you alone will all our praise be returned, and we
- 1:17Speaker 2: bless you. Mighty are your works, wondrous is your ways.
- 1:22Speaker 2: You are past searching out. We thank you. We thank you.
- 1:27Speaker 2: We thank you. We thank you. As a house, we
- 1:31Speaker 2: are grateful. And we have come to say, blessed be
- 1:34Speaker 2: your holy name. Blessed be your holy name. Tonight, you
- 1:39Speaker 2: will use these lips of clay to release your wisdom
- 1:43Speaker 2: beyond the understanding of men. And you will speak to
- 1:47Speaker 2: this house yourself. Thank you, blessed Father. In Jesus' mighty name.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Let's give Jesus a very, very big hand. Please. And
- 2:00Speaker 2: you may please be seated. Amen. God bless you so much. Hallelujah.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Thank you, Lord. All right, who is excited to be
- 2:16Speaker 2: in church this evening? Amen. Hebrews chapter number 12, from
- 2:26Speaker 2: verse 14 to 16. Amen. Hebrews 12 from verse 14
- 2:33Speaker 2: to 16. And I want us to pay keen attention
- 2:41Speaker 2: to this scripture. If you are there, say Amen. Now
- 2:48Speaker 2: look at what the Bible says, Hebrews 12 from verse
- 2:51Speaker 2: 14 says, Follow peace with all men and holiness, without
- 2:58Speaker 2: which no man shall see God, see the Lord. Looking diligently,
- 3:06Speaker 2: lest any man fail of the grace of God, lest
- 3:13Speaker 2: any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby
- 3:21Speaker 2: many be defiled. You see that? So he went on
- 3:28Speaker 2: to speak a bit about Esau. And I was trying
- 3:34Speaker 2: to understand why Esau would be brought in that context.
- 3:39Speaker 2: And I realized that the Bible was saying that the
- 3:43Speaker 2: same way Esau mortgaged the plan of God for his life,
- 3:48Speaker 2: bitterness is also a way to sell off. Is that
- 3:52Speaker 2: okay now? To be bitter is a way to also
- 3:55Speaker 2: look at the great things God has proposed for you
- 3:58Speaker 2: And then to sell it out. The word bitterness used
- 4:03Speaker 2: in Hebrews 12 there is the word from Hebrew word
- 4:07Speaker 2: that means picria. Picria. Which means acidity. Or also means
- 4:16Speaker 2: literally poison. It means poison. The same word can also
- 4:22Speaker 2: mean sharpness. To be piercing. You see that. To be sharp.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Now this is not the sharpness like we would use it.
- 4:34Speaker 2: This is like the sharpness of a painful knife. Are
- 4:38Speaker 2: you with me? Of a what? Painful knife. So when
- 4:43Speaker 2: a person is bitter the fellow is poisonous. When a
- 4:49Speaker 2: person is bitter the fellow is sharp. A bitter person
- 4:54Speaker 2: inflicts pain on people. because of the sharpness.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Amen.
- 5:01Speaker 2: So that's the word. So what the Bible is actually
- 5:04Speaker 2: saying is, it is very possible to follow peace with
- 5:12Speaker 2: all men. It is. It is possible. We will not
- 5:21Speaker 2: be told to do it if it is not possible.
- 5:25Speaker 2: It is possible to endeavor To be at peace. Amen.
- 5:32Speaker 2: And some of the reasons why that is difficult is
- 5:36Speaker 2: because it is quite easy to walk with people who
- 5:39Speaker 2: are lovable. But there are people who are not lovable. Yes.
- 5:44Speaker 2: They are sharp. They are coarse. They are they are sidic.
- 5:50Speaker 2: And in all of those cases I found out that
- 5:52Speaker 2: it's because you are not even the problem. They have
- 5:55Speaker 2: greater things they are dealing with. Is that okay now?
- 5:59Speaker 2: They have internal battles unresolved. They have things they are
- 6:04Speaker 2: not talking about. And I always tell people that rudeness
- 6:09Speaker 2: is a lazy man's way of showing strength. So when
- 6:14Speaker 2: you see a rude person, that's someone who is trying
- 6:16Speaker 2: to be strong but doesn't know how to be strong.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Humility is strength. To be gracious is strength.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Humility.
- 6:26Speaker 2: To not return evil with evil is strength. To be
- 6:32Speaker 2: looked down upon and refuse to look down upon yourself
- 6:36Speaker 2: is strength. If somebody said to you now that, are
- 6:40Speaker 2: you stupid? That's not an insult. It is a question.
- 6:46Speaker 2: You fight because you believe you are.
- 6:48Speaker 3: True?
- 6:51Speaker 2: True? You fight because that question agrees with a question
- 6:56Speaker 2: you have been asking yourself and you have not found
- 6:58Speaker 2: an answer. That maybe I'm stupid. Amen. Somebody looks at
- 7:04Speaker 2: me now and says, Lazarus, are you stupid? My answer is, no,
- 7:08Speaker 2: I am not. And someone says, what about the context?
- 7:12Speaker 2: You know, there's a Nigerian context you have to think
- 7:15Speaker 2: about when you're asking this. You know, are you stupid?
- 7:18Speaker 2: Is there from Udemyat? When you switch to pigeon, it
- 7:24Speaker 2: becomes quite more harsh. And people are not really gracious
- 7:31Speaker 2: these days. Because they are the first victim. They are
- 7:34Speaker 2: in pain. They are in pain. Nobody goes around injuring
- 7:39Speaker 2: people if they are not in pain. The fellow who
- 7:43Speaker 2: is holding a knife to someone's head and saying, I
- 7:47Speaker 2: will blow your brains out for a phone call. The
- 7:53Speaker 2: fellow is not normal for a phone. I heard the
- 7:59Speaker 2: story of an Uber driver in Lagos. Somebody was trying
- 8:07Speaker 2: to collect the phone from the guy and the guy
- 8:10Speaker 2: was struggling with the phone. The guy had this local
- 8:13Speaker 2: gun and shot fired the gun at him in his
- 8:16Speaker 2: face and he went blind. He took his two eyes
- 8:20Speaker 2: for a phone. So most times when you see where
- 8:27Speaker 2: these guys are, you discover that they have to smoke
- 8:30Speaker 2: to feel among. They have to be high. There are
- 8:39Speaker 2: many lazy people that look strong. Somebody will hold the
- 8:45Speaker 2: wife too cold and press her against the wall and say,
- 8:50Speaker 2: I'm going to show you I'm the man in this house.
- 8:52Speaker 2: That's not strength. That's not strength. That's no strength. That's weakness.
- 9:01Speaker 2: That's weakness. Severe one. Serious one.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Amen.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Say it loud and clear. I am not weak. I
- 9:13Speaker 2: am strong. Say it again. I am not weak. I
- 9:17Speaker 2: am strong. Say it again. I am not weak. I
- 9:21Speaker 2: am strong. So I showed you the other time that
- 9:25Speaker 2: the word bitterness translates mean to mean poison. It also
- 9:31Speaker 2: means acidity, to be acidic. So it means that the moment,
- 9:39Speaker 2: even as the name implies, when you become bitter, you
- 9:42Speaker 2: are no longer sweet. You are no longer sweet. So
- 9:47Speaker 2: ask your neighbor, are you a sweet person? I don't
- 9:54Speaker 2: know what is in your mind. I don't know why
- 9:56Speaker 2: you are laughing. But understand the context of my question.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Is that okay? I understand your neighbor is not an
- 10:04Speaker 2: orange or a mango. So I'm talking about sweetness in
- 10:08Speaker 2: terms of pleasantness. The ability to give off sweet fragrance.
- 10:14Speaker 2: That people will meet you and they feel better about
- 10:17Speaker 2: themselves after encountering you. when people converse with you, it
- 10:25Speaker 2: brings them closer to meaning. They feel there must be
- 10:28Speaker 2: a purpose about my life. And sometimes life is not pleasant.
- 10:34Speaker 2: You want to reflect the pain the same way the
- 10:37Speaker 2: moon reflects light from the sun. Sometimes you just want
- 10:40Speaker 2: to give people a piece of your mind. But we
- 10:46Speaker 2: must be gracious because we have been called to look
- 10:50Speaker 2: like Christ. Not just when we are in church, but
- 10:53Speaker 2: everywhere we find ourselves. I think I shared with you,
- 10:59Speaker 2: I was sharing in Asaba. I was going to minister.
- 11:04Speaker 2: And I just started hearing someone fighting. I heard the
- 11:08Speaker 2: voice of a young man telling an elderly man, Get
- 11:10Speaker 2: out from my front. You just get out of here,
- 11:13Speaker 2: you fool. This, that. And I was wondering. I was wondering.
- 11:19Speaker 2: First thing first, the man is old enough to give
- 11:21Speaker 2: birth to you. First thing first. Then the senator who
- 11:28Speaker 2: was sitting together said, he doesn't know that he's addressing
- 11:33Speaker 2: the former chief of defense staff. So when we came
- 11:39Speaker 2: down from the flight, soldiers were waiting in their numbers. Apparently,
- 11:51Speaker 2: he saw that they were waiting for the man. It
- 11:53Speaker 2: occurred to him. I shot myself in the leg. And
- 12:02Speaker 2: I saw the way he was walking fast. And the
- 12:05Speaker 2: old man just looked at him and moved on. That's graciousness.
- 12:10Speaker 2: That's strength. That's maturity. One time I was on a flight.
- 12:15Speaker 2: And a governor was sitting just in front of me.
- 12:17Speaker 2: One of the sitting governors. He was sitting on somebody's seat.
- 12:23Speaker 2: It was not his seat. And the man came and said, oh, sir,
- 12:28Speaker 2: you are on the wrong seat. And if I was
- 12:32Speaker 2: in his shoes, I would tell him you are on
- 12:33Speaker 2: the wrong seat, sir. Politely, we paid. You can't cheat
- 12:36Speaker 2: us politically and cheat me on my flight. You can't
- 12:42Speaker 2: cheat me in two ways. He wouldn't look up. He
- 12:47Speaker 2: sat down with sense of entitlement. I said, this is
- 12:50Speaker 2: not a leader. This is a ruler. No humility. I
- 12:53Speaker 2: think I shared with you. No humility, no graciousness, nothing.
- 12:56Speaker 2: And I love the esteem of the man standing there.
- 12:59Speaker 2: He had to leave him, but we all understood the message.
- 13:03Speaker 2: This might be a governor, but he's not a leader.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Humility is strength. We must not use our privileged position
- 13:13Speaker 2: to lord over people. Humility is what? Strength. So bitter
- 13:19Speaker 2: people are not sweet people. They reflect what is on
- 13:25Speaker 2: their inside. When you are bitter, you become defiled. When
- 13:32Speaker 2: you are bitter, you become defiled. It defiles you from
- 13:36Speaker 2: inside out. Bitterness defiles you. In the name that is
- 13:48Speaker 2: above all names, you will not be defiled. Because it
- 13:53Speaker 2: doesn't matter how wise you are, the moment you become bitter,
- 13:58Speaker 2: you can't manifest wisdom. You speak from fully. Speak from
- 14:07Speaker 2: fully once you are bitter. So bitterness is a trap.
- 14:12Speaker 2: It's a very serious trap. And Whether you are anointed
- 14:17Speaker 2: or not doesn't change the fact that you can be bitter.
- 14:21Speaker 2: The anointing does not remove bitterness.
- 14:25Speaker 3: No.
- 14:26Speaker 2: You can be anointed, blessing lives. You are releasing sweet incense.
- 14:31Speaker 2: But there's still something. It looks like there's a fragrance
- 14:36Speaker 2: that is coming alongside wheat with the sweetness that you represent.
- 14:42Speaker 2: There's a scripture for that. In the book of Ecclesiastes,
- 14:47Speaker 2: and I want to quickly search it out, that speaks
- 14:53Speaker 2: about dead fly will make an ointment, use the word,
- 14:58Speaker 2: is it apothecary, to stink. So you might have a
- 15:01Speaker 2: very sweet incense, but there are also things on the
- 15:05Speaker 2: side that destroys it. See, you have to put the
- 15:10Speaker 2: teaching of Isaac and Ishmael side by side with my
- 15:14Speaker 2: teaching tonight. You can be so anointed, so gifted, but
- 15:19Speaker 2: the pain on the inside is not allowing the sweetness
- 15:23Speaker 2: of the fragrance of the anointing that should have transformed
- 15:26Speaker 2: life to work in itself. What should heal is now hurting.
- 15:33Speaker 2: What should mend is breaking. What should raise people is
- 15:37Speaker 2: killing them. And I've said this again and again. Sometimes
- 15:42Speaker 2: the way we handle ministry in Africa is scary. It
- 15:46Speaker 2: makes God difficult to approach. It looks like he's going
- 15:50Speaker 2: to just kill you one time. You don't even know
- 15:52Speaker 2: who he is. It's like the government is against you.
- 15:55Speaker 2: You are from a dysfunctional background. The society is against you.
- 15:58Speaker 2: And even God is looking for a way to kill you.
- 16:00Speaker 2: That's not the God of the Bible. And that's why
- 16:05Speaker 2: your theology is wrong.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Why?
- 16:07Speaker 2: I made a mistake. I forgot to have my devotion.
- 16:10Speaker 2: Then God did not speak to me throughout the day.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Is God that petty? He hates malice, but he keeps it.
- 16:20Speaker 2: He hates strife, but he's striving with you. That's not
- 16:23Speaker 2: the God of the Bible. God has not spoken to
- 16:26Speaker 2: me for the past so and so number of days.
- 16:29Speaker 2: I perceive that God is angry with me. I also
- 16:32Speaker 2: lay hands on me so God will not be angry
- 16:34Speaker 2: with me. So my hands will turn away his anger.
- 16:36Speaker 2: The blood of Jesus is not that potent to change it.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Wrong theology. Wrong theology. Say it again. God is love.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Say it again. God is love. Say it loud and clear.
- 16:52Speaker 2: God is love. When a person is bitter, the grace
- 16:59Speaker 2: they carry becomes polluted. The same way a water that
- 17:05Speaker 2: is sweet or neutral in taste, whatever you call it,
- 17:08Speaker 2: can become bitter. What you carry can be polluted, bitterness.
- 17:14Speaker 2: So I want to, because of the length of the
- 17:18Speaker 2: work that I have to do around this story today,
- 17:22Speaker 2: I want to go into a story in the Bible.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Today I'm going to talk lengthy about the story of Absalom.
- 17:33Speaker 2: And David, on Sunday I'm going to talk about the
- 17:37Speaker 2: story of Jacob and Reuben. We're going to compare these
- 17:41Speaker 2: two cases of bitterness. Is that okay? Are you with me?
- 17:46Speaker 2: Are you sure? Now turn your Bibles quickly to the
- 17:49Speaker 2: book of 2 Samuel chapter number 13. 2 Samuel chapter
- 17:55Speaker 2: number 13. If you are there, say Amen.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Amen.
- 18:02Speaker 2: So I'm going to start the reading from verse 1.
- 18:05Speaker 2: 2 Samuel chapter number 13. This is one of the
- 18:09Speaker 2: very significant stories in the Bible that illustrates what bitterness
- 18:14Speaker 2: can do to a person, to a lineage, to a
- 18:17Speaker 2: family and to a kingdom. And it came to pass
- 18:20Speaker 2: after this that Absalom the son of David had a
- 18:24Speaker 2: fair sister whose name was Tamar. And Amnon the son
- 18:30Speaker 2: of David loved her And Amnon was so vexed that
- 18:37Speaker 2: he fell sick for his sister, Tamar, for she was
- 18:42Speaker 2: a virgin. And Amnon thought it hard for him to
- 18:47Speaker 2: do anything to her. But Amnon had a friend whose
- 18:50Speaker 2: name was Jonadab, the son of Shimei, David's brother. And
- 18:55Speaker 2: Jonadab was a very subtle man, that is, a crafty man.
- 18:59Speaker 2: And he said to him, why art thou being the
- 19:03Speaker 2: king's son, lean from day to day. Will you not
- 19:09Speaker 2: tell me? And Amnon said to him, I love Tama,
- 19:13Speaker 2: my brother, Absalom's sister. And Junadab said to him, lay
- 19:19Speaker 2: thee down on thy bed and make thyself sick. And
- 19:23Speaker 2: when your father come to see you, say to him,
- 19:26Speaker 2: I pray you, let my sister Tama come and give
- 19:29Speaker 2: me meat and dress the meat in my side and
- 19:32Speaker 2: that I may sit and eat at her hand. He
- 19:34Speaker 2: gave him a strategy, what the Gen Z's will call OT.
- 19:40Speaker 2: He said, if you do this, you are going to
- 19:42Speaker 2: get your sister. Number one, why should you fall in
- 19:47Speaker 2: love with your own sister? It doesn't make sense. Huh?
- 19:52Speaker 2: Talk to me now. It doesn't make sense. Why will
- 19:55Speaker 2: a man fall in love with his own sister? But
- 19:57Speaker 2: you will look at the description that was given. The
- 20:00Speaker 2: Bible called Tamar the sister of Absalom. Absalom and Tamar
- 20:08Speaker 2: were the children of one of the many wives. That
- 20:11Speaker 2: David married. David was the king. He had choice of women.
- 20:19Speaker 2: As a matter of fact. Before we got here. In
- 20:22Speaker 2: 2 Samuel 11. When he went after Beersheba. And consequently
- 20:27Speaker 2: when Nathan came. He said. When you became king. I
- 20:32Speaker 2: gave you the wives of Saul. I didn't betray anyone
- 20:35Speaker 2: for me. He said if you wanted more. I would
- 20:36Speaker 2: have given you. So David had many women. He was
- 20:40Speaker 2: enjoying his life. He was giving birth to children. But
- 20:44Speaker 2: he was also betting pain. Sometimes a man said to me,
- 20:49Speaker 2: and I see people say it around, particularly young people.
- 20:53Speaker 2: You know, sometimes you see people addressing the issue of Nigeria.
- 20:57Speaker 2: And they say, let's fight. Let there be war. What's
- 21:00Speaker 2: the whole nonsense? Let's end everything. And usually you find
- 21:04Speaker 2: out that there are people who have never experienced war before.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Polygamy is in the Bible. I know doctrine. I'm this, this, that.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Nobody can talk to me against it. It bears pain.
- 21:16Speaker 2: There are men who are caught up to die, but
- 21:19Speaker 2: the children may never recover from the pain they have produced.
- 21:23Speaker 2: The consequence of their actions, the things they have done
- 21:26Speaker 2: to their families, the number of children out of wedlock,
- 21:28Speaker 2: what they have done to their wives, what they have
- 21:30Speaker 2: done to their children, the children may never know peace.
- 21:34Speaker 2: Not because they don't love each other, but because a
- 21:36Speaker 2: man has sown discord. A man is about exiting the stage,
- 21:40Speaker 2: but he's created a problem. We would not have had
- 21:43Speaker 2: the issue of Absalom and Hamnon if they were all
- 21:47Speaker 2: giving birth to the same women. The problem here was
- 21:52Speaker 2: the fact that there were steps. Are you with me?
- 21:55Speaker 2: Is this simple enough? That's the first issue. Just have
- 21:58Speaker 2: women everywhere. And let me give you this counsel. If
- 22:02Speaker 2: you believe in that lifestyle, you may manipulate your children
- 22:06Speaker 2: with money, but as they mature, they will grow to
- 22:08Speaker 2: hate you. Many African fathers think that as long as
- 22:13Speaker 2: you can pay them and give them money, I pay
- 22:16Speaker 2: your school fees, you think you are buying the future.
- 22:18Speaker 2: It's a lie. It will only be for a while.
- 22:22Speaker 2: At the end of the day, the utmost way to
- 22:24Speaker 2: love children is to love their mother. We need to
- 22:29Speaker 2: redefine this nonsense. If you claim to truly love your children,
- 22:33Speaker 2: then you have to love their mother. Can't keep betting pain.
- 22:39Speaker 2: If you are not married and you are here, allow
- 22:42Speaker 2: yourself to be re-engineered now. When you marry people, you
- 22:46Speaker 2: don't just marry what they wear. You marry their mentality.
- 22:49Speaker 2: And some mentalities are very bad. There are many bad
- 22:52Speaker 2: people in good suit. There are many acidic people in
- 23:01Speaker 2: nice caftans. The shoes are well polished, but I wish
- 23:05Speaker 2: their character was better polished. They don't have an idea
- 23:11Speaker 2: of how to keep a home. They think women are
- 23:14Speaker 2: articles that you keep and hang somewhere. Someone said, why
- 23:17Speaker 2: do you always address men? Because he that wears the crown.
- 23:21Speaker 2: You are the foundation. As goes the head, so goes
- 23:24Speaker 2: the body. If you get it right... Let me say
- 23:29Speaker 2: this to you. The rebellion many men are facing in
- 23:32Speaker 2: their home is God telling them, you are rebelling against me.
- 23:39Speaker 2: If you miss your priesthood, you will have children who
- 23:41Speaker 2: are smoking. You will have girls who sponsor to school,
- 23:46Speaker 2: but they are doing hookups. You think your money can
- 23:50Speaker 2: buy posterity? It can't. There are some foundations we don't remove.
- 23:57Speaker 2: There are things you don't take away. If you miss
- 24:01Speaker 2: your priesthood journey as a man, you will bear pain
- 24:04Speaker 2: in your home. Are you with me? Men, if you
- 24:09Speaker 2: are here, say amen. So David actually built that foundation.
- 24:16Speaker 2: And as we study the story of Hamnon and Tamar,
- 24:20Speaker 2: we're going to see many things David himself didn't get right.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Many things. Oh, David, the sweet psalmist of Israel. So,
- 24:28Speaker 2: long story short, this guy went to pretend that he
- 24:31Speaker 2: was sick. The father sent the sister, go and take
- 24:36Speaker 2: care of your brother. And she went there. And the
- 24:41Speaker 2: Bible said he took her, then he lay with her,
- 24:45Speaker 2: then he defiled her. He slept with her. The moment
- 24:48Speaker 2: he finished sleeping with her, he ate her up. More
- 24:52Speaker 2: than the love that he had for her. That's how
- 24:55Speaker 2: powerful lust is. It is not durable. It was just
- 25:03Speaker 2: about her body. And the moment he saw the opening.
- 25:06Speaker 2: You need to see the way he threw her out
- 25:08Speaker 2: of the house. Get a look at it. And Amnon
- 25:10Speaker 2: hated her exceedingly. So that the hatred wherewith he hated her.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Was greater than the love wherewith he had loved her.
- 25:18Speaker 2: And Amnon said to her.
- 25:19Speaker 4: Arise.
- 25:24Speaker 2: I don't know women that men can sleep with but
- 25:26Speaker 2: can't marry. How do you call that love? He finished
- 25:30Speaker 2: sleeping with her. He said, get up. Get up. Get out.
- 25:33Speaker 2: King James is very polite. He said, be gone. Let's
- 25:39Speaker 2: see what message I have to say about this verse.
- 25:41Speaker 2: I'm not sure. But I know message is always quite extra.
- 25:44Speaker 4: Huh?
- 25:48Speaker 2: No sooner had Haman raped her than he hated her.
- 25:52Speaker 2: An immense hatred.
- 25:55Speaker 3: Alright?
- 25:56Speaker 2: The hatred that he felt for her was great, greater
- 26:00Speaker 2: than the love he had for her. Get up, he said,
- 26:03Speaker 2: and get out. He didn't want to see her. What
- 26:10Speaker 2: can be more cruel than that? You've messed her up
- 26:15Speaker 2: and now you are walking her out. Go back to
- 26:17Speaker 2: King James, please. Let's go to verse 16. Then she
- 26:24Speaker 2: said unto him, There is no cause. This evil is
- 26:28Speaker 2: sending me away is greater than the other that you
- 26:31Speaker 2: have done unto me. But he will not see Akin.
- 26:34Speaker 2: He said, see, I understand you have raped me, but
- 26:36Speaker 2: this one of sending me away now is even worse
- 26:39Speaker 2: than that. Look at what he said. Verse 17. Quickly.
- 26:44Speaker 2: Then he called his servant that ministered to him and said,
- 26:47Speaker 2: put now this woman out from me and bolt the
- 26:52Speaker 2: door after her. Then I get out. And you know
- 26:56Speaker 2: what happened? She put sackcloth on her head and tore
- 27:00Speaker 2: the colorful robe that was the custom of princess to
- 27:04Speaker 2: wear that indicated that they were virgins. So she tore
- 27:08Speaker 2: the garment and she put sackcloth and was walking on
- 27:12Speaker 2: the street of Jerusalem and was crying. Verse 18. Let's
- 27:20Speaker 2: jump a bit to where I stopped. Let's go to
- 27:23Speaker 2: verse 20. Quickly. Quickly. Let's go to 19, please, sorry.
- 27:29Speaker 2: Look at what happened. And Tamar put ashes on her
- 27:32Speaker 2: head and rent a garment of diverse colors that was
- 27:35Speaker 2: on her and laid her hand on her head like this.
- 27:41Speaker 2: And she went on crying. She was crying, the princess.
- 27:46Speaker 2: And Tamar and Absalom, her brother, said unto her, Amnon,
- 27:51Speaker 2: thy brother, been with you, but hold now your peace.
- 27:55Speaker 2: my sister. He is your brother. Regard not this thing.
- 28:02Speaker 2: So Tamar remained desolate in her brother Absalom's house. When
- 28:07Speaker 2: I read this, I was wondering, if David was as
- 28:13Speaker 2: powerful in his home as he was in ministry, the
- 28:16Speaker 2: best place to go was to her father. You can
- 28:19Speaker 2: be very powerful in ministry and weak in your home.
- 28:23Speaker 2: You can be very powerful in ministry and weak in
- 28:25Speaker 2: your home She went to Absalom. And look at Absalom's response. Ha!
- 28:31Speaker 2: Has I not done this to you? Ha! No, no, no, no.
- 28:35Speaker 2: Don't take it to heart. He's your brother. You'll be fine.
- 28:40Speaker 2: Stay in my house. Relax. When you hear such counsel,
- 28:47Speaker 2: what's your response? Oh, Absalom, the mature man. He understands
- 28:53Speaker 2: how to handle family affairs. So mature. He could have
- 28:57Speaker 2: killed Amnon the same day. But he never did. In fact,
- 29:01Speaker 2: look at what he did. Verse 21. And when the
- 29:06Speaker 2: king David heard of these things, he was very wroth. Yes, quickly.
- 29:09Speaker 2: And Absalom spake unto his brother Amnon, neither good nor bad.
- 29:18Speaker 2: For Absalom hated Amnon because he had forced his sister.
- 29:22Speaker 2: Now he was pained. But he never said anything. Never
- 29:28Speaker 2: said anything. Never said, why did you do it? Never said,
- 29:31Speaker 2: you did this to my sister. Never complained. Have you
- 29:34Speaker 2: seen people you offended never talk they say you know
- 29:38Speaker 2: what um see are you painted we give god the
- 29:42Speaker 2: praise yeah it is well so look at the way
- 29:47Speaker 2: he talked to you so you see let's let's just
- 29:49Speaker 2: thank god let's just thank god yeah it's it's it's
- 29:52Speaker 2: it's one of those things um we are people of
- 29:55Speaker 2: the spirit all is well We have Christianist language that
- 30:00Speaker 2: we use to excuse the fact that we are humans
- 30:03Speaker 2: and we are pained. When you are hurt, speak up.
- 30:10Speaker 2: You have done this. I don't like the way you
- 30:11Speaker 2: talk to me. Why? Sometimes you say, I'm not going
- 30:14Speaker 2: to talk to the person. The person is not going
- 30:15Speaker 2: to understand. But speak. Let the person know. Let the
- 30:19Speaker 2: person know. And then the following morning, they say, good morning.
- 30:23Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 30:26Speaker 2: See, since I'm talking to you, you're welcome. And when
- 30:30Speaker 2: we say, let's do holy hands. Oh, glory. After the service, hey, sister,
- 30:38Speaker 2: how you doing? Thank God. You know what I'm saying?
- 30:45Speaker 2: Thank God. Thank God. The Bible said, he never said
- 30:53Speaker 2: anything good or bad. I think the worst person to
- 30:57Speaker 2: offend is the person who will not tell you that
- 30:59Speaker 2: they have offended them. Let's just thank God. Let's just
- 31:04Speaker 2: move on. We have called both of you to settle
- 31:07Speaker 2: this matter. There's nothing to settle. There's nothing to settle.
- 31:12Speaker 2: You see, the way I take life, the way I
- 31:14Speaker 2: take life, you will think that they are the commander-in-chief
- 31:18Speaker 2: of maturity. You see, the way I just take life,
- 31:22Speaker 2: they are greeting you for the past two weeks you
- 31:24Speaker 2: have not been responding. Now they are saying, let's settle
- 31:27Speaker 2: the matter. I say, no, no, no, no. You see,
- 31:29Speaker 2: it's not a deep matter. It's not that deep. It's
- 31:34Speaker 2: not that deep. So where I came from, we don't
- 31:37Speaker 2: take all these things to heart. You are hungry. You
- 31:40Speaker 2: are pained. You are looking for a way to revenge.
- 31:42Speaker 2: You are looking for a way to get back at
- 31:44Speaker 2: the person. All the opportunity to make peace has come.
- 31:46Speaker 2: You have refused to. So I just thank God for
- 31:50Speaker 2: his grace. What grace? What grace? What grace? What grace?
- 32:01Speaker 2: Let's continue the scripture we are reading. So Absalom spake
- 32:06Speaker 2: unto his brother Amnon, neither good nor bad. For Absalom
- 32:12Speaker 2: hated Amnon because he had forced his sister Tamar. Yes.
- 32:19Speaker 2: And it came to pass after four years that Absalom
- 32:22Speaker 2: had sheep sharers in Bahazur which is beside Ephraim. And
- 32:27Speaker 2: Absalom invited the king's sons. Now, go to verse 24.
- 32:31Speaker 2: And Absalom came to the king and said, Behold now,
- 32:34Speaker 2: thy servant hath ship-sharers. Let the king I beseech thee,
- 32:39Speaker 2: and his servant go with thy servant. Did you notice
- 32:43Speaker 2: that Absalom never said anything to Hamnon? And Hamnon never
- 32:49Speaker 2: said anything also. If you have offended people, And they
- 32:56Speaker 2: are not talking. You talk. Have the conscience enough to say,
- 33:00Speaker 2: I have done something bad. Absalom never talked. Amnon never talked.
- 33:08Speaker 2: Their father didn't talk. And I'm going to show you
- 33:12Speaker 2: that pattern in the house of David. They seem to
- 33:15Speaker 2: know how to move on without settling matters. How were
- 33:22Speaker 2: they meeting at the dining when they called for a feast?
- 33:26Speaker 2: two full years and you have seen the girl you
- 33:30Speaker 2: took her virginity you have seen her elder brother and
- 33:34Speaker 2: he will call you to a feast and you will
- 33:35Speaker 2: still go what kind of impunity is that hear me
- 33:44Speaker 2: there are people who are not the ones that are
- 33:47Speaker 2: bitter but they are the ones causing bitterness when you
- 33:54Speaker 2: hear them they are very sweet people but they are
- 33:56Speaker 2: sweet and painful. He said, they don't know how to
- 34:00Speaker 2: keep matters in their hearts, but they are sharp as
- 34:02Speaker 2: double-edged sword. Was it Hamnon that was bitter? No. But
- 34:08Speaker 2: what he did was bad.
- 34:09Speaker 3: Huh?
- 34:11Speaker 2: Let me tell you this. The most difficult person to
- 34:15Speaker 2: fight is somebody who is more corny than you. Everybody
- 34:20Speaker 2: sees them as smiling and okay. In fact, they have
- 34:25Speaker 2: their reputation to not know how to keep issues. But
- 34:30Speaker 2: they also have the reputation of causing problems. The moment
- 34:38Speaker 2: Amnon saw that he had slept with the girl, he
- 34:40Speaker 2: couldn't hide his feelings. Get out. Get out. Get out.
- 34:45Speaker 2: First year, you see Absalom the following week, and say, Amnon,
- 34:49Speaker 2: how are you doing? And say, I'm fine. You raped
- 34:52Speaker 2: his sister. You are not talking. He's smiling. You are
- 34:57Speaker 2: not begging.
- 34:57Speaker 3: Huh?
- 35:09Speaker 2: I remember a case years back. I won't mention where
- 35:12Speaker 2: we were. So the matter will not be traced. But
- 35:13Speaker 2: we were in a country. A boy, a Nigerian boy,
- 35:18Speaker 2: was sleeping with the wife of one of the natives.
- 35:23Speaker 2: He was sleeping with the wife. And you know what
- 35:25Speaker 2: he did? He still had the guts to go to
- 35:28Speaker 2: their house every night to drink beer with the husband.
- 35:35Speaker 2: He would sleep with the wife during the day. He
- 35:37Speaker 2: and the husband would sit outside his house and drink
- 35:39Speaker 2: beer with his friends and come back and laugh at
- 35:41Speaker 2: the man. One day the man found out that he
- 35:43Speaker 2: was sleeping with the wife and he came with a
- 35:44Speaker 2: cutlass and said, I will cut off your head tonight.
- 35:51Speaker 2: You must not have the custom of going about causing
- 35:54Speaker 2: people pain. You must not have the custom. We're going
- 35:57Speaker 2: to deal with the issue of bitterness but we must
- 35:59Speaker 2: also deal with the issue of the injurious. There's a
- 36:03Speaker 2: girl somewhere that decided to move on from a guy
- 36:06Speaker 2: who was raped and now is a pastor and never apologized.
- 36:10Speaker 2: Never apologized. Say life has happened, you should take it
- 36:13Speaker 2: and move on. You have son in the city and
- 36:16Speaker 2: you're going to have daughters too. We must learn to
- 36:19Speaker 2: make peace. Don't sweep matters under the carpet. The fact
- 36:23Speaker 2: that the fellow is not talking doesn't mean they are healed.
- 36:28Speaker 2: Don't go about causing people pain. Don't go about causing problem.
- 36:34Speaker 2: Bleeding people out. That everywhere you step people are crying.
- 36:37Speaker 2: They are weeping. Because you have passed with the tail
- 36:40Speaker 2: of a scorpion. And you are the one who is
- 36:41Speaker 2: so loud. Glory to God in the highest. Glory. Glory. Glory.
- 36:49Speaker 2: Glory to God. And you are a problematic person. You
- 36:52Speaker 2: are a problem. You are a problem. The last time
- 36:58Speaker 2: you almost broke somebody's head over a bucket. I said,
- 37:01Speaker 2: who took my bucket? You need to go and ask
- 37:05Speaker 2: of people. I'm a wall. It's your business. I don't
- 37:13Speaker 2: know what you're talking about. You need to go and
- 37:23Speaker 2: ask of me. When I get angry, I scatter things.
- 37:34Speaker 2: tell your neighbor make peace with the past it's very
- 37:39Speaker 2: important make peace make peace are you with me so
- 37:55Speaker 2: he said to the king he said I have a
- 37:57Speaker 2: feast after how many years Two years. How many years?
- 38:03Speaker 2: Two years. Two solid years. In fact, the Bible said
- 38:06Speaker 2: two full years. Didn't talk. There was no record of
- 38:13Speaker 2: David calling Absalom to ask, how do you feel? What
- 38:19Speaker 2: can I do? Tamar, what can I do? What was
- 38:23Speaker 2: the penalty for the sin that Amnon had committed against
- 38:29Speaker 2: Tamar All these questions that are left unanswered, I will
- 38:37Speaker 2: show you what they will produce. Many questions. You have
- 38:45Speaker 2: slept with my sister. Our father is not talking. He
- 38:50Speaker 2: moved on. It was about the palace. He was still
- 38:54Speaker 2: writing Psalms. He was busy writing Psalms. The Lord is
- 39:00Speaker 2: my shepherd. I shall not want him. Where is that
- 39:06Speaker 2: shepherd when your son was sleeping with my sister? You know,
- 39:10Speaker 2: there's a way you will undo family, your children will
- 39:12Speaker 2: hate your leadership. You see, there cannot be lasting peace
- 39:17Speaker 2: where there's no justice. There cannot be. In fact, calling
- 39:22Speaker 2: for peace without justice is a way to bully people.
- 39:28Speaker 2: Let's just make peace. Let's just make peace. No, no, no.
- 39:30Speaker 2: There's a matter. Okay? Say, okay, I'm sorry. No. There
- 39:35Speaker 2: should be acknowledgement. I acknowledge. Because this I'm sorry is
- 39:40Speaker 2: a way to even scorn the people. It's a way
- 39:43Speaker 2: to scorn the people. But if you are the one
- 39:46Speaker 2: dealing with somebody who is not seeing it For the
- 39:51Speaker 2: sake of your own sanity, forgive them in advance and
- 39:55Speaker 2: move on. So you are not cheated twice. The fellow
- 40:00Speaker 2: has ought you. Now they are still even rent-free in
- 40:02Speaker 2: your head. Move on. Let me say this in the
- 40:09Speaker 2: most graphical way possible. Not everyone with a head has sense.
- 40:15Speaker 2: That's the truth. Have you heard people reason and you wonder,
- 40:23Speaker 2: what is up there? Have they put hands inside to
- 40:27Speaker 2: scatter it? What's there? What are you thinking with? A
- 40:33Speaker 2: girl has been raped and somebody is saying, how was
- 40:36Speaker 2: he dressed? You wonder. He may not be the rapist,
- 40:42Speaker 2: but he's a potential one. And before you know it,
- 40:45Speaker 2: it becomes the acceptable question in society. Somebody has been raped.
- 40:49Speaker 2: They said, go and bring evidence. Oh, the fellow that
- 40:52Speaker 2: was raped was going with mobile phone to record. They're
- 40:55Speaker 2: about to rape me. They're about to rape me. They're
- 40:58Speaker 2: about to rape me. Don't be in a hurry to
- 41:02Speaker 2: say I do. Hear the way he thinks. You might
- 41:05Speaker 2: be marrying a fool. Hear the way he thinks. And
- 41:11Speaker 2: there are girls who don't make matters easy for themselves.
- 41:14Speaker 2: There are girls also, they have heads. A big wig
- 41:18Speaker 2: on top of Just like what is inside the skull
- 41:20Speaker 2: is missing. It's missing. It's not in there. The way
- 41:24Speaker 2: they think, the way they process life, the way they reason,
- 41:28Speaker 2: the way they see life. It will interest you that
- 41:30Speaker 2: a woman is asking the fellow woman to provide evidence
- 41:33Speaker 2: for a rape. A woman. And our society is built
- 41:44Speaker 2: largely on injustice. Justice. And there's the ripple effect. There's
- 41:49Speaker 2: the consequence of that. We will solve most of our
- 41:56Speaker 2: insecurity problems in Nigeria if there will be justice. Social justice.
- 42:07Speaker 2: Are you there? Should we continue the reading?
- 42:11Speaker 3: Yes.
- 42:11Speaker 2: Yes. 2 Samuel 13. And so after a full year,
- 42:15Speaker 2: he has invited the king's sons. Verse 24 now. And
- 42:19Speaker 2: Absalom came to the king and said to him, let's
- 42:21Speaker 2: go to verse 25. And the king said to Absalom, Nay,
- 42:25Speaker 2: my son, let us not allow all now go, lest
- 42:28Speaker 2: we be chargeable unto thee. And he pressed him, and
- 42:32Speaker 2: albeit he would not go, but he blessed him. So
- 42:35Speaker 2: he even wanted the father to be there. That's what
- 42:37Speaker 2: he was saying. Go and read very well. He wanted
- 42:39Speaker 2: the father to be there. What he wanted to do
- 42:42Speaker 2: was to kill the boy in the presence of the father.
- 42:47Speaker 2: He could have invited Amnon alone. Let's look at the
- 42:50Speaker 2: effect of this story. Verse 27 now. But Absalom praised
- 42:55Speaker 2: him that he let Amnon and all the king's sons
- 42:58Speaker 2: come with him. Yes? Now Absalom had commanded his servants saying,
- 43:04Speaker 2: Mark you now when Amnon's heart is merry with wine.
- 43:09Speaker 2: And when I say unto you, smite Amnon, then kill him.
- 43:14Speaker 2: Fear not. Have not I commanded you? Be courageous. Be vigilant. Yes, 29.
- 43:26Speaker 2: And the servant of Absalom did unto Amnon as Absalom
- 43:29Speaker 2: had commanded. Then all the king's son arose and every
- 43:33Speaker 2: man got him up upon his mule and fled. You
- 43:36Speaker 2: need to think about this beyond the letters. An entire family.
- 43:40Speaker 2: All the siblings were seated. And somebody was going to
- 43:44Speaker 2: kill his brother. And he needed the siblings to be there.
- 43:47Speaker 2: Not just the siblings. He actually wanted the father to
- 43:50Speaker 2: be there.
- 43:50Speaker 3: Why?
- 43:51Speaker 2: He wanted him to feel the pain he had carried
- 43:53Speaker 2: for two years. He had been carrying it. And he
- 43:59Speaker 2: wanted everyone to have a piece of his pain. Let
- 44:02Speaker 2: the society feel what I feel. That was what he
- 44:08Speaker 2: was doing. They struck him dead. The king's children. They
- 44:14Speaker 2: were royal seeds. Born in the palace. At least the
- 44:19Speaker 2: father might be a warrior who goes out to fight.
- 44:21Speaker 2: But they are not used to blood. And right there
- 44:25Speaker 2: was their brother. Lying in the pool of his own blood.
- 44:28Speaker 2: Drowning there. Struck on the instruction of their brother also.
- 44:34Speaker 2: And they fled. Think about the trauma. Think about the
- 44:38Speaker 2: number of days it will take them to recover. Think
- 44:42Speaker 2: about the number of months, the years, that they will
- 44:45Speaker 2: have the pictures in their mind. The day their brother
- 44:48Speaker 2: killed their brother and was lying in the pool of
- 44:51Speaker 2: his own blood, dead. What kind of pain was this?
- 44:56Speaker 2: What is happening in the house of David? David, what
- 45:00Speaker 2: is happening? You may not know what trauma means. There
- 45:04Speaker 2: was a time I was living in a house. And
- 45:09Speaker 2: I was studying around 2.30 a.m. And I noticed that
- 45:14Speaker 2: somebody was watching me from the window. In all this
- 45:18Speaker 2: face my face you. So I didn't know who it was.
- 45:22Speaker 2: There was light in my room but there was no
- 45:24Speaker 2: light outside. So I gummed myself to the wall. We
- 45:30Speaker 2: don't know who is there. But I knew somebody was watching.
- 45:34Speaker 2: And then all of a sudden we heard a loud
- 45:37Speaker 2: bang on the door. There were thieves. They were trying
- 45:40Speaker 2: to break in. The fellow we had to look in
- 45:44Speaker 2: the house, the fellow who we knew can cause problem.
- 45:47Speaker 2: We say, come. Enter into this garden I must go.
- 45:51Speaker 2: You are the one that can go and tell a
- 45:53Speaker 2: thief with gun I rebuke you in Jesus name. Before
- 45:55Speaker 2: they will test it on your head that your parents
- 45:57Speaker 2: will come and look for me. Enter this garden I
- 45:58Speaker 2: must go. If you come out, I will punch you.
- 46:03Speaker 2: But you know, after the thieves left, they couldn't break in.
- 46:07Speaker 2: After they left, we couldn't really sleep in the house
- 46:09Speaker 2: for the trauma. Anyone who has experienced armed robbery before
- 46:13Speaker 2: will know what I'm talking about. You just keep feeling
- 46:15Speaker 2: it might happen anytime. So look at the traumatic experience
- 46:19Speaker 2: in the house of David. Because somebody was what?
- 46:23Speaker 3: Bitter.
- 46:26Speaker 2: Bitterness can traumatize an entire lineage. Can leave people in shambles.
- 46:33Speaker 2: Why was Absalom that cold? He wanted to kill Amnon.
- 46:36Speaker 2: He could have sent them to his house in the
- 46:39Speaker 2: middle of the night and say, kill him. In a
- 46:42Speaker 2: way that nobody will know who had done it. He
- 46:46Speaker 2: could have asked them to poison his food. In a way,
- 46:49Speaker 2: he wanted to kill him and he wanted to take
- 46:52Speaker 2: responsibility for it that I did it.
- 46:55Speaker 3: Why?
- 46:56Speaker 2: So they can feel his pain. The pain he had
- 47:00Speaker 2: carried for two years. Two full years. Tell your neighbor,
- 47:07Speaker 2: release the pain. Tell your neighbor again, release the pain.
- 47:15Speaker 2: So somebody ran and went to tell the king and said, hey,
- 47:18Speaker 2: they've killed all the king's children. Then the king arose
- 47:22Speaker 2: and tore his garment and lay on the head. And
- 47:26Speaker 2: all his servants stood by with their clothes. What was
- 47:29Speaker 2: happening to David in his old age? There was no
- 47:32Speaker 2: rest anymore. And Jonadab, the son of Shimei, David's brother,
- 47:39Speaker 2: answered and said, Let not my lord suppose that they
- 47:44Speaker 2: have slain all the young men, the king's son. I
- 47:49Speaker 2: want to assume that you remember this Jonadab?
- 47:50Speaker 3: Huh?
- 47:52Speaker 2: You remember this guy? The same guy that said, this
- 47:55Speaker 2: is how you should do it. He's here also. Say, no, no, no, no, no.
- 48:00Speaker 2: He didn't kill everybody. He didn't kill everybody. He only
- 48:04Speaker 2: killed Amnon.
- 48:04Speaker 3: Amnon.
- 48:05Speaker 2: It's not everybody that died. There are people that are
- 48:08Speaker 2: good with playing two sides. You must beware. You must beware. So,
- 48:17Speaker 2: look at what he said in verse 3. Now therefore,
- 48:19Speaker 2: let not my lord the king take the tin to
- 48:22Speaker 2: his heart. To think that all the king's sons are dead.
- 48:28Speaker 2: For Amnon only is dead. But Absalom fled. He fled.
- 48:33Speaker 2: The same one who taught him what will kill him.
- 48:36Speaker 2: The same one that came to announce that he's dead.
- 48:40Speaker 2: May you not have bad friends. May you not have
- 48:44Speaker 2: bad friends. May you not have bad friends. So that
- 48:48Speaker 2: was what happened. And Absalom ran. Other children of the
- 48:54Speaker 2: kings were traumatized in their house. They were looking for
- 48:58Speaker 2: a way to bury Amnon. Absalom ran away And after
- 49:04Speaker 2: a while, if we go to verse 14, chapter number 14, Joab.
- 49:11Speaker 2: One of these days I'm going to teach about Joab
- 49:14Speaker 2: as a person.
- 49:17Speaker 1: Joab. Joab.
- 49:21Speaker 2: Joab is a kind of person let me show you
- 49:24Speaker 2: let me show you what happened Joab went to get
- 49:28Speaker 2: a woman for the sake of time I'm just going
- 49:30Speaker 2: to explain and told the woman to disguise like one
- 49:33Speaker 2: who has been mourning for days and go and tell
- 49:36Speaker 2: the king that see I have two children They were
- 49:39Speaker 2: fighting and one killed the other. And they have decided
- 49:42Speaker 2: they are going to kill the other one. Please, my
- 49:44Speaker 2: Lord King, if this other one should die, I'm not
- 49:47Speaker 2: going to have children again. Please help me, whatever you can.
- 49:49Speaker 2: The king said, go to your house. I will send
- 49:52Speaker 2: men after you. Nothing is going to happen to your son.
- 49:56Speaker 2: Then she came back and said, hey, is this not
- 50:00Speaker 2: the same thing happening to you, king? You have two children.
- 50:04Speaker 2: Absalom has killed Amnon. Let him return. This, this, that.
- 50:08Speaker 2: And she was able to persuade him. Then David looked
- 50:11Speaker 2: at her and said, Joab is with you in this matter.
- 50:15Speaker 2: He taught you to say this. Say yes. This, this, this. Actually,
- 50:20Speaker 2: Joab taught me. There are many lessons there. I'm just
- 50:24Speaker 2: telling you this. Don't tell anybody. Nah, lie. Because Joab said,
- 50:26Speaker 2: don't tell the king. So he said, yes, yes. Actually, this, this, this.
- 50:31Speaker 2: And the king said, okay, I've heard. Tell Joab. And
- 50:34Speaker 2: he said, call Joab. Call Joab. Joab stood there. He said, Joab,
- 50:38Speaker 2: Don't worry. Go and bring Absalom back. I've forgiven him.
- 50:42Speaker 2: And he brought Absalom. But the king said, I will
- 50:44Speaker 2: not set my eyes on him. For another two years,
- 50:48Speaker 2: he didn't see Absalom. And Absalom requested for Joab. And said, Joab,
- 50:53Speaker 2: come and see me. He said, the pain of my
- 50:56Speaker 2: father refusing to see me is more than the pain
- 50:58Speaker 2: of being exiled. I want to see him. He called Joab.
- 51:01Speaker 2: Joab would not come. You know what Absalom did? He said,
- 51:03Speaker 2: go and burn the vineyard of Joab. It means the
- 51:08Speaker 2: snake you have brought, the venom is still potent. He
- 51:15Speaker 2: didn't get better. He came back more injured. He came
- 51:18Speaker 2: back with pain. He came back with a plan. He
- 51:23Speaker 2: burnt the vineyard of Joab. Then Joab came and he said,
- 51:27Speaker 2: have I not been calling you before? If you should come,
- 51:30Speaker 2: now go and tell my father that I want to
- 51:31Speaker 2: see him. Then David said, okay, come and see me.
- 51:35Speaker 2: David hugged him. They wept. You know, David still never
- 51:40Speaker 2: asked him why. He didn't ask him why. He just
- 51:47Speaker 2: moved on again. He just moved on.
- 51:51Speaker 3: Again.
- 51:52Speaker 2: How many times? And you know what Absalom did? He
- 52:00Speaker 2: started sitting outside the palace. And he will. He called
- 52:05Speaker 2: 50 men. He said, let them drive in front of him.
- 52:07Speaker 2: Let's go there. 2 Samuel chapter number 15. Are you there?
- 52:17Speaker 2: There's something I want to call your attention to in
- 52:22Speaker 2: 1 Samuel 14 25. The Bible said in all Israel
- 52:27Speaker 2: there was none to be so much praised as Absalom
- 52:31Speaker 2: for his beauty. He was the most handsome guy in
- 52:34Speaker 2: the town. Can you see that? Handsome but bitter. Handsome
- 52:41Speaker 2: but vile. They also said from the sole of his foot.
- 52:46Speaker 2: To the crown of his head. There was no blemish.
- 52:50Speaker 2: In him. He looked like the kind of guy. That
- 52:58Speaker 2: every girl can want. Are you with me? No blemish.
- 53:10Speaker 2: Have you seen people that have no blemish before? He
- 53:12Speaker 2: had no blemish. The picture perfect guy. What is the
- 53:17Speaker 2: kind of guy that can stab his wife in her sleep? Sweet,
- 53:22Speaker 2: but bitter. Very handsome, but also very ugly on the inside.
- 53:30Speaker 2: The nature of his heart and his physical look, sharp contrast.
- 53:35Speaker 2: Contrasting each other. So you look at 2 Samuel chapter
- 53:41Speaker 2: number 15. The moment the father said, okay, now I
- 53:44Speaker 2: can see you. You can come back. You would think
- 53:47Speaker 2: the guy was going to go and sit down and say, okay,
- 53:49Speaker 2: this guy killed my brother, killed my sister, raped my sister.
- 53:52Speaker 2: I have killed him. I have done what I should do. This, this, this.
- 53:56Speaker 2: Let me lay low. No, no, no. From verse 1.
- 53:58Speaker 2: The Bible said, and it came to pass that Absalom
- 54:01Speaker 2: prepared him chariots and horses and 50 men to run
- 54:05Speaker 2: before him. And he rose up early and stood by
- 54:09Speaker 2: the way of the gate. And stood by the way
- 54:13Speaker 2: of the gate. You see, this part, there are lots
- 54:15Speaker 2: of applications to it. And it was so, that when
- 54:19Speaker 2: any man had any controversy to come to the king
- 54:22Speaker 2: for judgment, then Absalom called him and said, of what
- 54:26Speaker 2: city are thou? And he said, thy servants of the
- 54:29Speaker 2: tribes of Israel. And Absalom said to him, see, thy
- 54:32Speaker 2: matters are good and right, but there is no man
- 54:35Speaker 2: deputed for the king to hear thee. See, ha! Are
- 54:39Speaker 2: you seeing what he was doing? He went to position
- 54:41Speaker 2: himself where he can be interrogating people. This is a
- 54:45Speaker 2: matter that is nice to hear. He said, but you know,
- 54:50Speaker 2: we've not built the structure to begin to hear your
- 54:52Speaker 2: kind of matter in this land. I wish the king
- 54:56Speaker 2: would even, you know, he was positioning himself as better
- 55:01Speaker 2: than the king. He was positioning himself as one who
- 55:05Speaker 2: cared for them more. As one who loved them more.
- 55:08Speaker 2: Now his approach to the bitterness in his heart is
- 55:12Speaker 2: no longer the use of harmonations or guns. Now he
- 55:16Speaker 2: has switched to something more powerful. He was using his craftiness.
- 55:22Speaker 2: Now he was not interested in blood. He wanted the kingdom.
- 55:26Speaker 2: He wanted the kingdom.
- 55:28Speaker 3: Why?
- 55:30Speaker 2: Because he felt David was a bad judge. He looked
- 55:34Speaker 2: at the matter the king left unresolved. He looked at
- 55:37Speaker 2: the matter the king left unsolved. If this is the
- 55:40Speaker 2: mentality that governs Israel, this is a very bad mentality.
- 55:43Speaker 2: It's high time I take this thing from him. Are
- 55:46Speaker 2: you learning something? Look at what he said in verse 3.
- 55:52Speaker 2: And Absalom said unto him, See, thy matters are good
- 55:56Speaker 2: and right, but there is no man depicted for the
- 55:57Speaker 2: king to hear thee. And Absalom said, Moreover, O that
- 56:00Speaker 2: I were made judge in the land, that every man
- 56:03Speaker 2: which had any suit or course might come to me.
- 56:07Speaker 2: And I will do him justice. David might be a
- 56:12Speaker 2: good singer. He was bad with justice. He was bad
- 56:15Speaker 2: with it. And it was so that when any man
- 56:19Speaker 2: come night to him to do him a business, he
- 56:21Speaker 2: put forth his hand and took him and kissed him.
- 56:23Speaker 2: When he want to get, he say, no, no, no, no, no.
- 56:24Speaker 2: Don't do that. Don't do that. He will carry them
- 56:27Speaker 2: up and say, come, you are my brother. You are
- 56:29Speaker 2: this and that. There are people who look humble because
- 56:32Speaker 2: they hate those in power. They are not good either.
- 56:34Speaker 3: Huh?
- 56:38Speaker 2: And it happens even in Nigeria. There are people who
- 56:41Speaker 2: look like they are fighting for the masses. But when
- 56:44Speaker 2: you hear them, you can hear pain. You hear bitterness.
- 56:48Speaker 2: In fact, Nigeria might be better in the hands of
- 56:51Speaker 2: some people than those who are bitter. There will be
- 56:54Speaker 2: war if they come to power.
- 56:56Speaker 3: There will be.
- 56:59Speaker 2: There will be. The fact that you hate a system
- 57:05Speaker 2: doesn't mean you have the wisdom and the maturity to
- 57:08Speaker 2: replace the people. Somebody in the system is pained, is angry,
- 57:13Speaker 2: is bitter. They will not begin to position themselves as
- 57:15Speaker 2: more humble. Suddenly when you have a problem, they want
- 57:18Speaker 2: to listen. Hey, they are not listening because they care
- 57:21Speaker 2: about you. They are not listening because they want to
- 57:23Speaker 2: solve your problem. They are listening because at the end
- 57:26Speaker 2: of the day, they need to sell a narrative that
- 57:28Speaker 2: the leader is bad. They are listening to recruit somebody
- 57:32Speaker 2: to their side. They are listening to make you feel
- 57:34Speaker 2: they are better than the system. They are listening to
- 57:36Speaker 2: make you feel, oh, no, no, no, no. I wish
- 57:39Speaker 2: they know. What you are saying is also the problem
- 57:41Speaker 2: I have with them. This, this, this. Sometimes not all
- 57:44Speaker 2: listeners are good helps. Some will complicate your life more
- 57:50Speaker 2: than it was. Beware of people who are nice generally
- 57:55Speaker 2: in the systems that they are serving. But when they
- 57:57Speaker 2: talk to you, they leave you with pain and bitterness.
- 58:00Speaker 2: It's strange. They are praised as the best, but when
- 58:03Speaker 2: they talk, you know they are bad. It's something we
- 58:06Speaker 2: see around, everywhere. They have issues in their mind. They
- 58:10Speaker 2: have issues. They have issues with the pastor. They have
- 58:13Speaker 2: issues with the members. They have issues with this. And
- 58:15Speaker 2: they say, you know what? I wish they know how
- 58:18Speaker 2: to do this better. You see, the things we have done. No, no, no, no, no, no.
- 58:22Speaker 2: That's bitterness. It's unresolved bitterness. That was what he was doing.
- 58:28Speaker 2: If you look at Absalom, you say he was the
- 58:30Speaker 2: most humble man in town. Nobody could persuade and greet him. Say, no, no,
- 58:33Speaker 2: don't do that. Don't do that. Don't stay in your clothes.
- 58:37Speaker 2: I honor you, sir. That was Absalom. I honor you.
- 58:40Speaker 2: I respect you.
- 58:41Speaker 4: Why?
- 58:42Speaker 2: He was winning them to his side. He wanted to
- 58:44Speaker 2: do something, but he needed to win the favor of
- 58:48Speaker 2: the people. It would amaze you to know how gullible
- 58:52Speaker 2: people can be. Don't overrate yourself. Don't overrate yourself. It
- 58:57Speaker 2: will amaze you to know you can be more gullible
- 59:00Speaker 2: than you think. Somebody can give you their own batu
- 59:04Speaker 2: and before you know it you are a soldier in
- 59:06Speaker 2: a battle that is not your business you are a
- 59:08Speaker 2: soldier you have been recruited you hate somebody now because
- 59:12Speaker 2: somebody hates the person you don't want to see that
- 59:16Speaker 2: person not because the fellow has done anything to you
- 59:18Speaker 2: if you are asked to list the number of people
- 59:20Speaker 2: you now hate because of what you heard it will
- 59:23Speaker 2: shock you to know how easily recruited you are you
- 59:27Speaker 2: might not have a job but you are an employee
- 59:32Speaker 2: They are somebody's employee. And they are employing you well,
- 59:35Speaker 2: though there is no salary. Look at this in verse 6.
- 59:41Speaker 2: Look at it from verse 5. And it was so
- 59:43Speaker 2: when any man came nigh to him to do him
- 59:45Speaker 2: a business, he put forth his hand and took him
- 59:47Speaker 2: and kissed him. And on this manner did Absalom to
- 59:50Speaker 2: all Israel that came to the king for judgment. So
- 59:54Speaker 2: Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel. And
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: it came to pass after 40 years that Absalom said
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: to the king, I pray thee, let me go and
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: pray my vow. The vow I vowed to the Lord
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: in Hebron. For thy servant vowed a vow while I
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: abode in Gesho, in Syria, saying, if the Lord bring
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: me again indeed to Jerusalem, I will serve thee. And
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: the king said unto him, go in peace. And he
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: arose and went to Hebron. And Absalom sent spies. So
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: that was not 40 years of Absalom doing that. It
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: was 40 years of the reign of David. All right?
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: Absalom sent spies and all that throughout the tribes of
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: Israel saying, as soon as, look at what he said.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: He said, I'm going to Hebron to do something nice.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: But he had sent people. He said, as soon as
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: you hear the sound of the trumpet, then you shall say,
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: Absalom reigned in Hebron. And with Absalom went 200 men
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: out of Jerusalem and they were called and they went
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: in their simplicity. And they knew not anything. And Absalom
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: sent for Ahithophel, the Gileadites, David's counselor, from a city,
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: even from Gilead, while he offered sacrifices. And the conspiracy
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: was strong, for the people increased continually with Absalom. He
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: was going to steal the kingdom from his father. This
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: is where it gets serious. He said, when you hear
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: the sound, since the people are now on my side,
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: I have taken my time. The phase one of this
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: coup was to show them that I'm better than my father.
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: That's the stage one. That's the stage one. I've done
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: the stage one, showed them I'm better than my father.
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: The stage two now is to take over power. He said,
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: when you hear the sound, shout at once, Absalom reigns.
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: That was the plan. Then Absalom now said, go and
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: call Ahitophel. David's special counselor. The most powerful advisor. The
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: most trusted advisor David had. He said, go and call him. Huh?
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: That doesn't make sense. How are you trying to overthrow
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: your father? And the person he trusts the most is
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: the fellow you are recruiting to your side.
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: Why?
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: Because he knew that the same pain that was in
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: his heart, Ahithophel also had the same pain. Somehow, bitter
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: people can identify bitter people.
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: And just look.
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: And say, are you feeling what I'm feeling? Say, I've
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: been feeling it too. I've been feeling it too. Say,
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: you have seen what I'm seeing. Say, I've seen it too.
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: See what I'm talking about? Say, I've been seeing it.
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: I've been wondering. I've been wondering. If a bitter person
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: talks to you because they know that there's something you
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: have in common, Somehow rebellion is painful to the degree
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: that the rebellious is close to power. You must understand that.
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: You must understand that. If you have that knowledge, copy
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: and paste in building systems and structures, it will help you.
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: The devil was not the only one that fell from heaven.
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: There were other falls, but his fall was the loudest.
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: The devil can't drive home the pain. Until he has
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: brought the injurious person close to you. Okay. Are you
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: with me? Are you there? Today we send a call
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: to Aitofel. And the Bible said the moment Aitofel joined him.
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: the conspiracy against David became strong. Ahithophel was like a
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: man that looked like 10,000 men. His own weapon was
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: the kind of mind God had given to him. When
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: he's on your side, your enemy is in trouble. In fact,
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: the moment David heard that Ahithophel was now on the
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: side of Absalom, he ran.
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: He ran.
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: While Ahithophel may not be Absalom, Ahithophel knows one thing
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: he will say. And that will be the end of David.
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: Let me make this prayer for you. It doesn't matter
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: how smart and how cunning those that be against you are.
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: God will turn their plans to nothing. It doesn't matter
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: how intelligent they think they are. There are those who
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: can intelligently bring you down. But God will nullify their plans.
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: He will make their plans come to nothing.
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: Amen.
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: In the name of Jesus. Say that amen loud enough.
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: Please be seated. And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilead knight.
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: David's counselor. From a city. Even from Gilead. While he
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: offered sacrifice. And the conspiracy was strong. For the people
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: increased continually against Absalom. Why would the people not increase?
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: Now they are saying. David must be a bad man.
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: His son is against him. Do you know him better
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: than his son? His counselor, the most trusted special advisor,
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: is now against him. Do you know him better than them?
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: For them to be against him, he must be a
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: bad person. This is exactly how the devil likes to
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: orchestrate narratives. This is the reason why no rebellion against
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: you is strong until people will believe those people say
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: because they say, who knows him more than them? They
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: know him more. They know him more. When the devil
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: wants to really afflict you, he afflicts you with your
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: trusted soldiers. With your trusted men. With your home. He
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: afflicts you with those that when they say something everybody believes.
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: And it can be a lie. Let me tell you this.
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: The day you will be humbled to know that not
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: every room has an altar of truth. I pray it
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: will not be your own story that will show you.
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: When Jezebel wanted to destroy Naboth, she brought out son
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: Tobelia to say he had done what he did not
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: know anything about. The people against David were the closest
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: to him. His son and his most trusted advisor. And
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: Absalom and Ahithophel had something in common. They had a
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: common interest. And I'm going to show you. You know,
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: people are very quick on social media. For them to
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: be saying that. When people want to know about you,
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: may they not ask those who hate you. Let me
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: come again. The day your helper wants to make inquiry
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: about you, may your helper not ask those who hate you.
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: You will talk anyhow until you know that life is deep.
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: You have not seen problems. People can gather like this
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: and hold Bible and they are lying. And they are lying.
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: They will hold Bible like this and surround the person.
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: And they are lying. They are liars. And they are lying. See,
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: for them to hold Bible, look at this. The devil
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: needs those that people can believe to afflict you. He
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: needs those people that can believe. See, who can know
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: him more than his wife? Who can know him more
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: than her husband? Who can know him more than his son?
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: If they say he's a bad man, he's a bad man.
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: But it's not always true. It is not always true.
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: Because bitterness recruits bitterness. It recruits bitterness. It is not
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: always true. Let me tell you, life is deep. Are
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: you following what I'm saying? What did I say? The
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: Bible said, hell has no fury like a woman's content.
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: There was a man of God in Nigeria. I won't
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: mention his name. They invited him to a place. And
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: they had set up a woman there in the room naked.
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: He went with his wife. She was the one that
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: entered first. The moment she entered, they were snapping. Words
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: can speak better than pictures. A picture is more than
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: a thousand words. But thank God it was the wife.
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: Carry your wife along. I've gone to minister in places
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: that the girl coming to serve food. I don't know
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: why they send that person. I said, don't send this
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: person in. When you want to come and put food
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: in my room, put it at the door. And then go. Knock. Knock.
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: Just knock and go. I'll pick it. If I'm interested.
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: When the girl bends like this, you are seeing... Is
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: she not aware? Is she not seeing it? Is breeze
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: not blowing her?
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: No. No.
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: Is breeze not blowing her? No, if your breast is out,
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: are you not aware? No, it's breeze. No, it's the truth. No,
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: let's ask her. Is breeze not blowing her? Oh, she
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: doesn't know. In a place that there's AC, she's not aware.
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: She's on fire for God. It's the anointing. You better
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: don't smile at what will kill you. Don't. Stand your ground.
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: Stand your ground. Let me just keep quiet. Now let's
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: jump a bit. Let's evaluate a few things as I
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: begin to round up. Why did Absalom send for Ahithophel?
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: And look at something In 2 Samuel chapter number 16
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: from verse 20. 2 Samuel 16 from verse 20. Look
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: at this. If you are there, say Amen. Then said
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: Absalom to Ahithophel, Give counsel amongst you what we shall do. Say,
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: you are a wise man. Our camp is complete. We
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: have men of the sword, but we have a man
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: whose brain is his weapon. Give us a counsel. And
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: Ahithophel said to Absalom. Look at this counsel. He said,
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: go in unto your father's concubines, which he had left
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: to keep the house. And all Israel shall hear that
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: thou hast abhorred your father. Then shall the hands of
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: all that are with you be strong. He said, go
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: and sleep. As a matter of fact, what he was
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: saying is that, go and sleep with your father's wife
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: on top of his roof. The concubines, the girls he
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: left behind. He said, go and do it in a
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: place that all Israel will know that this is the
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: hatred you have for your father. Hold on a minute.
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: How will a man's special advisor be giving that advice
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: against him? Yesterday was David's most trusted man. Today was
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: the one showing him how to hurt David. Your most
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: trusted man can be an Absalom who is hurt but
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: has not talked. He might be carrying a measure of pain.
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: He said, go and sleep with them. He said, all
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: Israel needs to know, go and sleep with his concubines.
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: That's what you should do. That's my advice. When David
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: met this guy, the Bible said he was offering sacrifice.
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: So you think he was a spiritual man? How can
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: a spiritual man be giving bad advice? When a man
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: is spiritual but his heart, his wisdom is dark. A
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: man can be in church, but his pain, the wisdom
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: is dark. The earth is dark. So David had many
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: men around him. And he was busy dancing. But his
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: house was on fire. He thought he knew how to rule.
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: Because they were not talking. Don't build a system that
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: suppresses the voice of the people.
- 1:12:40Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: Let me leave that there. For the sake of time,
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: let me jump a bit. Are you with me? Because
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: I'm going to teach a few more things. So the
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: question is, why? Why was Absalom given a counsel that
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: was that dark? Why was he that specific about the
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: father's concubines? So let's trace the reason. 2 Samuel chapter
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: number 23 From verse 34. 2 Samuel 23 from verse 34.
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: Let's look at the reason. 2 Samuel 23 from verse 34.
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: So we are just going to trace a few lineage here. Eliphelet,
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: the son of Abishai, the son of Makathite, Eliam, the
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: son of Ahithopheth, the Gileadite. Are you seeing that? Go
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: back to verse 34 now. Let's call these. I'm not
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: the only one that will call these names. Let's call
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: these names together. Are you ready? Oh, yes. Let me
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: watch you too. One, two, three, go. Eliphelet, the son
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: of Abishai. Uh-huh. Hey. What did you say? Eliphelet, son
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: of Abishai, huh? The son of who?
- 1:14:04Speaker 3: Mark.
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: Uh-huh. Eliam, the son of who? Ahithophel. Mark this word.
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: Let's compare scriptures now. Compare this with 2 Samuel. Chapter
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: number 11. Verse 3 and 4. 2 Samuel 11. Verse
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: 3 and 4. David sent and inquired after the woman.
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: And one said. Is this not Bathsheba? The daughter of who? Helium.
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: Who is the father of Helium? Ahitophel. So when he
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: killed Bathsheba. When he slept with Bathsheba. And killed her husband.
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: He slept with the grand daughter. Of his most trusted man.
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: And killed her husband. And the guy did not resign.
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: He stood. He stood. So when Ahithophel said. This is
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: what you should do. He was saying. The same thing
- 1:15:06Speaker 2: that was done to my grandchild. Do it to him.
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: Let him feel my pain. As a grandfather. He killed.
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: My son-in-law. He killed my son-in-law. He will feel my fury.
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: He will feel my pain. The same place he stood.
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: Where he saw my granddaughter. Stand in the same place.
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: And sleep with his concubines. Mess them up. A very
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: spiritual man. But has been carrying pain for a long time.
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: He's been housing it. The Bible didn't tell us much
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: about Eliam. The father of Bathsheba. So David had a
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: bad custom. And the custom was. He will create injustice.
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: And will never talk about it. So when Amnon slept
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: with that girl. And didn't say anything. He learned from
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: his father. And Absalom has been seeing that pattern in
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: their home. And has been vowing. I will never be
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: like him. He is a bad king. They don't know
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: who he is. They call him the sweet Samis of Israel.
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: But I know he is bad. If you met Absalom.
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: He would tell you he was on a righteous course.
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: He wanted to hang David. He felt Israel deserved more.
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: If we take. If we look deeply into this matter.
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: Will you call David a good king?
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: No.
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: When the Bible began to describe David as a shepherd
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: in Ezekiel 34, you would think it was all perfect.
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: But as the way the Bible just mentioned your story
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: like you are the best of the best. But it
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: is the mercy of God. It is the mercy of God.
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: So here was, so when Absalom called Ahithophel, it was
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: because Absalom knew the story. Was it not your granddaughter
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: that is one of his wives inside there? Your son-in-law
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: was the one killed. I know you too, you have
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: a pain you have not talked about. Join me. Join me.
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: And they recruited. So what was haunting David was his past.
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: The problem he had created. The pattern. I sense very strongly.
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: There's so much weight. I'm trying to continue teaching. But
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: I sense strongly to ask you to pray. that if
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: there's anything you have left unaddressed, may mercy erase them now.
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: If you feel this prayer is not necessary, you can
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: forget about it. But if you feel, ah, the devil
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: can latch on any aspect of the past, I give
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: you a minute to cry to God. I give you
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: a minute to cry to God. Cry to God. Cry
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: to God. Cry to God. Let mercy speak! Let mercy speak!
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: I am not claiming to be perfect. I've made mistakes.
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: I've done things I'm not proud of. But in all
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: the ways the devil is gathering those facts to haunt
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: my future, to haunt me down. You see, you are
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: not praying the way you should pray. Let mercy speak.
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: Let mercy speak. Let mercy speak. Let mercy speak. I
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: give you two more minutes.
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: Oh yes. Oh yes. Oh yes. Thank you, Father. In
- 1:19:13Speaker 3: Jesus' mighty name, please be seated.
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: The elders have an adage. They will say that the
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: things you thought you have done can still be heard.
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: You know, I spoke when I was thinking about Isaac
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: and Ishmael. That there is a God that sees. The
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: fact that you are a covenant person does not give
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: you the right to treat people bad. There is a
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: God that sees. There is a God that sees. Slept
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: with Beersheba. Never. Discussing with Absalom. With Ahithophel. And say
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Ahithophel saw his granddaughter. All of
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: a sudden was now in his house. Maybe as he
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: was coming in. When the king called her. They must
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: have met her grandfather outside. And say Beersheba what I
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: come to you. Say the king called me. And Ahithophel
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: will be saying. I hope this is not what I'm thinking.
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: I hope this is not what I'm thinking. The following
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: day he suddenly sees his son-in-law. Standing there. And say
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: what has happened? And the king. Maybe. Don't eat the food.
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: Don't go into her. Let's be sure what has happened. Maybe.
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: Maybe these are the behind the scenes. You see that.
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: And all of a sudden we heard. That. The guy.
- 1:21:07Speaker 2: Had died. The following week, Beersheba had moved to the palace.
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: The witch cried yesterday. The child died today. Who didn't
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: know that it was the witch who killed the child?
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: And Ahithophel being a wise man must have been mapping everything.
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: He was not just interested in causing David pain. He
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: wanted him dead. 2 Samuel 17. He had the final instruction.
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: He had the final instruction for Absalom. Moreover, I said
- 1:21:45Speaker 2: unto Absalom, let me now choose. Say, let me choose myself.
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: About 12,000 men. And I will arise and pursue after
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: David this night. You know, he said, he has left
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: his wife. He's now weary. He said, I will come
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: upon him while he's weary and weak and dead. And
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: will make him afraid. And all the people that were
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: with him shall flee. And I will smite the king only.
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: That was a master plan. They will charge everywhere. The
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: men will run. Because there was discouragement in the camp.
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: He said, we will take David out clean. It was
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: a perfect plan. And guess what? It would have worked.
- 1:22:33Speaker 2: It would have worked. It would have worked. It would
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: have worked. But God will turn the plan of your
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: enemies upside down. God will turn the plans of your
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: enemies upside down. Now he said, and I will bring
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: back all the people unto thee, the man whom thou seekest,
- 1:22:52Speaker 2: as if he has returned, and shall be in peace.
- 1:22:55Speaker 2: And the same pleased Absalom well, and all the elders
- 1:22:58Speaker 2: of Israel. Then said Absalom, call now Ushai, the Hactites also,
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: And let us hear likewise what he said. And Ushai,
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: and when Ushai was come to Absalom, speak with him, saying,
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: Ahithophel hath spoken after this manner. Shall we do after
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: his saying, if not speak thou? And Ushai said unto Absalom,
- 1:23:21Speaker 2: The counsel that Ahithophel hath given is not good at
- 1:23:26Speaker 2: this time. For said Ushai, Thou knowest thy father and
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: his men. Let me say this to you. May God
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: give you men. One of the peak of God's blessing
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: left over in man is to give the person men.
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: Men like horses. The Bible said that daily men came
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: to David to help him till his camp was very
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: great and his horse was like the host of God.
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: The gift of men who don't mind taking a bullet
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: for you. May God give you men. Again I decree,
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: may God give you men. Which I said, you know
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: your father. And you know his men. That they be
- 1:24:13Speaker 2: mighty men. They be chaffed in their minds. As a
- 1:24:18Speaker 2: bear robbed of our webs. He said, David may be weak.
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: His men are not weak. David may be discouraged. His
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: men are not discouraged. He said, and thy father is
- 1:24:26Speaker 2: a man of war. I will not lodge with the people.
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: There is something deeper about him. This is not the
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: way he built. And then said this and said that.
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: Let's jump a bit. Verse 11. Therefore I counsel that
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: all Israel be generally gathered unto thee from Dan to Beersheba.
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: And as the sand of the sea by multitude that
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: went down to battle. Let's jump a bit. And verse 14.
- 1:24:56Speaker 2: And Absalom and all the men of Israel said. The
- 1:25:00Speaker 2: counsel of Ushai, the Arctite, is better than the counsel
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: of Ahithophel. For the Lord has appointed to defeat. It
- 1:25:08Speaker 2: was God who had to come in. It was not
- 1:25:12Speaker 2: that Ushai was wise. The sure message of David was speaking.
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: That even when a man is weak and is not
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: that perfect, but there's a covenant of mercy. And God
- 1:25:23Speaker 2: has said, I will not withdraw my hands from you.
- 1:25:26Speaker 2: David wasn't a good man, but mercy was speaking. It
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: was God who defeated the council of Ahithophel. What Ahithophel
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: had said, only God can speak. He spoke as a God.
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: When men like Ahithophel speak, you tremble. It looks as
- 1:25:41Speaker 2: though God has spoken. But God has interrupted him. And
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: he brought the counsel of Ahithophel to nothing. The Bible
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: says for the Lord had appointed to defeat the good.
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: It was good. The good counsel of Ahithophel. To the
- 1:25:54Speaker 2: intent that the Lord might bring evil upon Absalom. May
- 1:26:00Speaker 2: you find mercy. May you find mercy. May you find mercy.
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: You have not been perfect. But may you find mercy.
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: May mercy speak when nothing else is speaking.
- 1:26:13Speaker 3: Amen.
- 1:26:14Speaker 2: May you find mercy. It was God though. It was God.
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: It was God. It was God. It was God. It
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: was God. Let's jump a bit to verse 23. Verse 23.
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed,
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: he saddled his house and got him home to his house.
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: To his city. And put his household in order. And
- 1:26:49Speaker 2: he hanged himself. He was a man whose pride. Was
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: in the fact that when I speak. That's the best.
- 1:26:59Speaker 2: He knew what he was saying. It was a big
- 1:27:01Speaker 2: slap on his face. That how will I speak. And
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: one who shy. Will come from somewhere. And the council
- 1:27:08Speaker 2: will be thwarted. God needed to. If Ahithophel was not
- 1:27:13Speaker 2: taken out of the game. You cannot get Absalom. You cannot.
- 1:27:20Speaker 2: Ahithophel in his camp was a game changer. He is
- 1:27:22Speaker 2: a man like 10,000. He hanged himself. And he died.
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: And was buried in the sepulcher of his father. Bitterness.
- 1:27:32Speaker 2: Always kills the bitter. It does. It may not be immediately.
- 1:27:40Speaker 2: It may not be at that moment, but eventually, eventually, eventually,
- 1:27:46Speaker 2: it will happen. It will happen. By Sunday, I'm going
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: to continue from here. And we're going to journey to
