- 2:30time now for Johnny Dillar. Hi, Johnny, this is Betty Norton.
- 2:38I've been trying to call you. I know I was out. I'm sorry.
- 2:40You keep pretty late hours. It's after midnight. They'll wake you up.
- 2:45No good. Why did you come over? Moon's real nice tonight,
- 2:50the lake is lushous. I'll come over, Betty, but not to talk
- 2:53about the Moon of the water. Got something else on your mind? Maybe,
- 2:57Yeah, a little thing called tonight and every weekday night Bob Bailey in
- 3:09the transcribed Adventures of the Man with the Action Packed Expenser. Count America's Fabulous
- 3:14free lacensed insurance Investigator, Yours Truly Johnny Dollar. Expense account submitted by special
- 3:31Investigator Johnny Dollar to Amalgamated Life Associates Home Office, Hartford, Connecticut. Assignment
- 3:38the Crystal Lake matter expense account continued, I have six two dollars tip to
- 3:46the Crystal Lake Hotel garage attendant for rusting him out of bed to get my
- 3:49car. I wanted very much to have another talk with Betty Norton, the
- 3:53wealthy, glamorous girl on the other side of the lake. She had told
- 3:57me she hadn't been with Edward Russell when he left the hotel bar that night
- 4:00he was murdered, But the bartender at the hotel swore that she and Russell
- 4:02had left together. If she lied about that, maybe she'd lied about a
- 4:05few other things. When I got to our Lake Shore mansion, she had
- 4:10a few well spaced dim lights burning, a dreamy type record playing, and
- 4:14some drinks mixed. The whole bit. Here you are, Johnny Bourbon,
- 4:19isn't it. Yeah? You've got a good memory, buddy. Sure.
- 4:25I always remember what's important or what you want to remember? Same thing.
- 4:30Listen, how about the things you don't want to remember? Meaning a couple
- 4:35of questions I want to ask. Oh no, don't start making with those
- 4:39dull questions again. Look, let's just have a drink. Last time I
- 4:43had to go swimming with you before you had answered. This time, it's
- 4:45got to be a drink. Huh. I thought we might dance too with
- 4:48you, leading I suppose. Sorry, Betty, I know you probably own
- 4:54quite a few things in this world, but the list stopped short of me.
- 4:58I want some answers from you, and I want them. Okay,
- 5:01so be a party pooper, so ask questions. You told me you met
- 5:05Edward Russell in the hotel bar the night he was murdered. You had one
- 5:10drink with him and left. That's right, you lied, Betty, who
- 5:14says so the bartender at the hotel man, I've always tipped him so well
- 5:18too. Look, baby, suppose we cut the comic routines. Huh?
- 5:23All right, so I left the bar with Russell. Why did you lie
- 5:26about it to me this afternoon? It's very simple, Johnny, part of
- 5:29the Norton training. I guess what does that mean. My father told me
- 5:31long ago I could do whatever I liked, but to keep it out of
- 5:34the newspapers. That's the way I've played it ever since. Well, go
- 5:39on on that night you're talking about, Russell and the bartender got into a
- 5:43fight. I know, and that's why I lied to you. Believe me.
- 5:46I just didn't want to be mixed up in anything that could land in
- 5:49the papers. I see what happened. Then he and I went to a
- 5:53coffee shop to sober him up a little. You can check that, I
- 5:56will. Then what kept mumbling about somebody named Billy he was looking for?
- 6:00He say much about him? No, he wasn't making very much sense.
- 6:03And then Hiram came into the coffee shop. Oh, Hiram, the old
- 6:06fellow who drives what passes for a taxi here at the lake. He told
- 6:11Russell somebody wanted to see him. Russell left with Hiram. And you didn't
- 6:15see Russell after that, No, I didn't. You don't look convinced,
- 6:20Johnny. I'm not. You lied once before, you could be lying again.
- 6:26Sorry, I told you I lied before, But this time it's the
- 6:29truth. We're gonna get in touch with Hiram his numbers on the cover of
- 6:32the local directory, Local directory, this one over here? Yes, okay,
- 6:43Johnny at this time of night, Yes, at this time of night.
- 6:46He doesn't usually take calls after midnight. Sleeper out somewhereiness, Well,
- 7:00I'll check him in the morning. What is it, squid, Johnny?
- 7:06What is it? What's the matter? I thought I heard something outside here?
- 7:11Could it have been one of your servants. I only have a housekeeper
- 7:13with me here and she went to bed hours ago. There are a lot
- 7:16of deer around here. Maybe that's what it was. Yeah, maybe,
- 7:20Johnny, you call hire him in the morning. He back my story up.
- 7:26It's crazy thinking I had anything to do with Russell's murder. What possible
- 7:29reason could I have? I pretty would one maybe, but it might fit.
- 7:33You told me the same afternoon. You had to play everything your way.
- 7:36You've probably been doing it most of your life and getting away with it.
- 7:41Maybe Russell wouldn't cooperate, are you kidding? Look, men like Russell
- 7:45are a dime a dozen. So I had a drink with him and got
- 7:47mixed up in a barroom brawl. I should have known better. But as
- 7:51far as getting interested in him, I wasn't believe me, I can always
- 7:57find others who like to play it my way as you put it. Ah,
- 8:03you kill me that goal, play the front you put on. I
- 8:05wonder if behind it you are just a hollow, lonely kid. Thanks a
- 8:09lot for reminding me, mister Freud. Oh, I'm sorry. I guess
- 8:16that was a lot of line. I guess I was asking for it.
- 8:20But you're wrong about me not being able to stand anyone who doesn't play it
- 8:24my way. You see, I found someone who won't and I kind of
- 8:31like it, kind of like you. That is. Yeah. Look,
- 8:37I always do worry. I'm not going to try to appropriate you or to
- 8:41buy you, but about the loneliness. Don't leave just yet, Johnny,
- 8:52stay just a few minutes more, Okay, just a few minutes. I
- 9:07guess I felt a little sorry for her in her loneliness, or maybe it
- 9:11was well anyway, I stayed a few minutes warm. I think it was
- 9:16just a few minutes. I watch it stopped. First thing in the morning.
- 9:22I tried to get higher on the cab driver on the phone again,
- 9:24but still no answer. I headed for Deputy Sheriff Ansel Garrett's office, Clarence
- 9:28Pixby, who owned the cabin where Russell's body was found, was with him.
- 9:33Good morning, Johnny ants mister Pixby, whole morning, Dolly. Anything
- 9:37new? Not much? Well, I won't take up any more of your
- 9:39time, Sheriff. However, I would like to ask a favor. What
- 9:43is it? So far? The Denver papers haven't mentioned which cabin up here
- 9:48the body was found in. I'd appreciate it it could be kept that way.
- 9:52Otherwise, if it got out, I'm afraid my chances ever selling the
- 9:54place would be pretty dim. Yeah, anybody who'd want to buy it for
- 9:58that reason probably be the kind of person not very welcome here at the lake.
- 10:01Okay, Bixby sounds reasonable enough. See what I can do? M's'
- 10:05oblige She here cigar No thanks, dollar, no, no thanks. Well,
- 10:11I see you later, fellas. I'll be around day or twomorrow if
- 10:16you want me. Okay, Well, how do things look this morning,
- 10:20Johnny? Just like Bixby's cigar wrapper, I wish he'd quit tying those things
- 10:28in knots. Every time he does it, it reminds me that we're right
- 10:31in the middle of a knot we cannot tie. It's a bear or oh,
- 10:35brother, it's worse than that. A guy named Edward Russell takes off
- 10:39from his home in Denver and disappears. He turns up here looking for a
- 10:41guy named Bill, of which there are too many in this time. Then
- 10:45Bixby brings a prospect up here to show his cabin too. He finds the
- 10:48padlocks been switched, Russell's body inside. Yeah. An, It's the only
- 10:54person who stood to profit financially on Russell's death is his wife, Leona,
- 10:56beneficiary on his fifty thousand dollars insurance Polus. But she couldn't have killed him.
- 11:01The Denver police established her in Denver at the time. Oh incidentally,
- 11:05she's up here at the lake now, Johnny. Oh yeah, she told
- 11:07me over the phone you wanted her to confirm the identification. How don't she
- 11:09bear up? Not too well, it's kind of rough you get any information
- 11:15out of Betty Norton. Well. Her story is she had coffee with Russell
- 11:18after his freaks with a bartender hiring. The cab driver came in and told
- 11:22Russell somebody was looking for him. Russell went away with Hiram you checked with
- 11:26I've been trying to get in touch with him on the phone, no answer.
- 11:28Yeah's on the goal lot. He keeps his cab behind the hotel garage.
- 11:33We can check there and leave a message for him. Yeah, okay,
- 11:37it's what about Bixby as a possibility. I thought of that too,
- 11:43Johnny. It had taken awful lot of nerve to kill a guy and then
- 11:46arranged to discover the body in your own cabin. But it sure would be
- 11:52quite a cover. Yeah, like you say, to take more nerve than
- 11:56most men have got. Besides, we run a check on bixbyan we've turned
- 11:58up absolute nothing to time into the deal at all. Now there's no evidence
- 12:03he'd ever known Russell. I know on a Russell can't remember her husband ever
- 12:07mentioning Bixby's name. I uh, hey, wait a minute. How about
- 12:11Putnam, the guy who wanted to buy Bixby's cabin. Yeah, the same
- 12:16thing could apply to him. He knew the cabin was empty, He could
- 12:22have planted Russell's body there and then arrange for Bixby to open the cabin and
- 12:24could be except how does he tie? And I don't know. He said
- 12:28he and his wife wanted to buy the cabin. It might be interesting to
- 12:31check with his wife and see what she says. Not a bad idea,
- 12:33Johnny, I'll put in a long distance call to her. Don't count on
- 12:37much though. At this point, Ansel, I'm counting on nothing, and
- 12:43I wasn't. I was getting nowhere trying to match a logical motive with any
- 12:46of the suspects. I decided I might as well continue checking guys named Bill
- 12:50around town and see if I could find that one Russell had been looking for.
- 12:54I went down to Bill's boat house at the landing Bill Jensen o ran
- 12:58I was a stocky, heavy set man in his late twenties. His face
- 13:01looked friendly enough, that is, if you weren't paying much attention to his
- 13:05eyes. They were about the coldest shade of blue i'd ever seen. What
- 13:09can I do for you, mister dollar Boat? Maybe a little information?
- 13:13Maybe what about a man named Edward Russell, the guy who was murdered?
- 13:18But what about him? Did he come around here to your boat house?
- 13:22Not that I know of, But he was saying for a man named Bill,
- 13:24and I thought you might be the one. No, No, Aunt
- 13:28Scarrett was telling me about him, But I'm not the one he was looking
- 13:31for. Sorry, did you have to see him around town anywhere, Russell.
- 13:35No. The first time I saw him was his picture in the paper
- 13:37after the killing. I see you got quite a lot of boats here in
- 13:43Jensen. Yeah, pretty big investment in him. You keep the ones here
- 13:48in the boat house parallocked? I said, no, I have to used
- 13:50to get one stolen now and then say you want to take one out in
- 13:52the lake now, mister Dollar, Uh not right now, Jensen, maybe
- 13:56later, see you round. All of a sudden, I was real interested
- 14:03in Bill Jensen in his boat house because some of the padlocks in the boats
- 14:07looked very much like the one that had been placed on Bixby's cabin door,
- 14:09the one he pried off when he discovered Russell's body. I wanted a closer
- 14:13look at those padlocks, but now wasn't the time. I went on back
- 14:18to the hotel to look for Hireum, but his taxi still wasn't there,
- 14:20so I left him a message to contact me as soon as possible. Then
- 14:24after dark, I went back to the boat house. There was nobody around
- 14:28me. I slipped in the back and took a close look at the boat
- 14:31padlocks. Had no doubt about it. They were the same kind as the
- 14:33one on Bixby's door, and one of them was missing. Yeah, Bill
- 14:37Jensen could be my boy. I hit the deck fast behind one of the
- 14:41boats and looked around me. It was a bad spot to be in.
- 14:46I was pinned against a wall. I edged toward the rear, then dole
- 14:48for the door the tiny office, and I realized my mistake. I figured
- 14:54that the office would have it outside door, but it didn't. I was
- 14:56trapped. It looked like I just solved the murder the hard way. Johnny
- 15:20Dollar Ansel Garrett, Johnny, I was out when you phoned a minute ago,
- 15:22and get over here fast. Matter. I'm trapped in the office of
- 15:26Jensen's boathouse. Trap. Look, I've got no time to explain. There's
- 15:28a man outside with a gun, and I can't hold him off much longer.
- 15:31I don't know, but I've got a strong hunch is the one who
- 15:33murdered Russell, and he's trying to do likewise to me. Expense account submitted
- 15:46by Special Investigator Johnny Dollar to Amalgamated Life Associates Home office, Hertford, Connecticut
- 15:52assignment The Crystal Lake matter expense account continued Item seven two cents just about what
- 16:00I figured my life was worth at the moment. The tiny office I was
- 16:03in had no windows and no outside door, a real trap. And outside
- 16:07in the darkened boat house, somebody with a gun was stalking me, probably
- 16:11the killer I've been looking for, but now he was looking for me.
- 16:15I stacked what furniture there was against the door. He started throwing his weight
- 16:19against it, and it couldn't last very long. There was nothing I could
- 16:23do with Wait. Right then, the sound of Ans Garrett's voice outside was
- 16:29just about the sweetest music this side of heaven. Yeah, yeah, just
- 16:36a minute, I'll get this stuff away from the door, Okay, like
- 16:42switcher somewhere there. Well, Bill Jensen, So you're my boy, Gensen.
- 16:51What are you talking about? What are you doing here anyway? Dollar
- 16:53getting shot at by you? Mostly? Look, this is my boat house.
- 16:56Remember, you've got no business to come prowling around here somewhere down simmer
- 17:00down. I thought he was a prowler. Answer, Oh yeah, sure,
- 17:03you knew I was getting close to you, Jensen. You decided to
- 17:07put me out of the ball game, and you came pretty close. Believe
- 17:08me, I tell you, I don't know what you're talking about. I
- 17:11figured it was somebody after my boats. Get me to buy it. Story
- 17:12like that. Just hold it a second, both of you. I can
- 17:15get a word in edgewise around here. Maybe we can straighten things out.
- 17:18They're pretty straight right now as far as I can see. Maybe, Bill,
- 17:22you claim you figured Johnny was a prowler trying to steal something. Huh,
- 17:26how would you figure it? Ants? I see somebody sneaking into the
- 17:27boat house and catch a glimpse of somebody else hanging around. Wait a minute,
- 17:32somebody else who man or woman? I couldn't tell that it was got
- 17:34a sight mighty fast? Oh sure, pretty convenient story, Jensen. Somebody
- 17:38around here has been keeping an eye on me right from the start. But
- 17:41right now it figures to be you. Bill. A couple of Jensen's boats
- 17:48have turned up missing lately, Johnny, it's natural he might think that.
- 17:51Yeah, and something else has turned off missing here too, Ants, what
- 17:53do you mean that's why I came here to the boat house tonight in the
- 17:56first place. When I was here this afternoon, I noticed that the padlocks
- 18:00on his boats were missing. One of them was missing. They looked an
- 18:03awful lot like the one that Russell's killer put on the cabin door when he
- 18:06planted the body. There locks a lot, Johnny, Yeah, but one
- 18:08of them, Jensen's, is missing. Don't forget that. Oh yeah,
- 18:11come here and take a look right there. Yeah, so it is,
- 18:22How about it, Jensen, I didn't even know it was gone. How
- 18:26do I know what happened to it? Somebody stole it, probably the same
- 18:27guy who stole those boats last month. Look. Look, if you're trying
- 18:30to involve me in Russell's murder, you're wasting your time. I didn't even
- 18:33know the guy, and you got nothing to tie me into it. No,
- 18:36then you better listen to a few facts, Jensen. Edward Russell took
- 18:40off from his home in Denver and came up here to Crystal Lake looking for
- 18:41a guy named Bill, which just happens to be your name, and half
- 18:45a dozen other Bills in town too, Dolin, And what does that proved?
- 18:48Russell's body was found in Bixby's vacant cabin when Bixby brought a prospect up
- 18:52to showing the place. Bixby's lock had been taken off the door and a
- 18:56new one put on your padlock, Jensen, I already told you. Somebody
- 19:00must have stolen it. Then I come around to your boat house here to
- 19:02check on the locks, and you start throwing shots at me. You figure
- 19:04it out. You haven't got a case against me, and you know it.
- 19:07Dollar just the same, Jensen, You better come down to my office
- 19:11with us. I got a few more questions I want to ask you,
- 19:14and i'd like to check your gun against the slug that killed Russell. Go
- 19:18ahead, check it, sure, I'll come down with you as I want
- 19:22to get this straightened out. Too. Well. Let me tell you something,
- 19:25Dollar, next time you come around my boat house without a search warrant,
- 19:30I won't miss. We questioned Jensen for an hour, but he didn't
- 19:37change his story. He kept denying any connection with the murdered man, Edward
- 19:41Russell or his wife le Owner. Afterward, answer and I went into his
- 19:45office. I don't think we got enough to hold him on Johnny Well.
- 19:56For one thing, his gun's a different caliber than the one that killed Russell.
- 20:00I'm sure he could have used a different gun, but we'd have to
- 20:02find it to prove anything. What about the padlock. That's a point,
- 20:07all right, but it's our only point. Somebody could have stolen it,
- 20:10like Jensen said a frame could be Jenson sure sticks to his story. Yeah.
- 20:18I throw everything I could think of at him, but he didn't crack
- 20:21an inch. After all, Jenny, you were out of line going into
- 20:23his boat house like that, so I should have had a search once.
- 20:26I wasn't time. You know, you got quite a knack for stirring up
- 20:36trouble. If you're wrong about Jensen and the other suspects, you're gonna a
- 20:40few apologies. Apologies. I don't mind hand an ounce, but Russell's killer
- 20:45I want do you think I don't. Deputy Sheriff Garrett speaking, huh oh,
- 20:53yeah, yeah, put it through. It's Missus Putnam and Denver Jenny,
- 20:56wife of the man who wanted to buy Bixby's cabin. I put a
- 21:00call into her earlier, hope. Hello, Oh yeah, missus Putnham,
- 21:04this is Deputy Sheriff Garrett up at Crystal Lake. The reason I'm calling your
- 21:10husband tells us you and he had been interested in buying a cabin up here
- 21:14for some time. I thought i'd check with you. What's that you sure
- 21:21about that? I see, Thanks very much, Missus Putnam. Well,
- 21:30I guess your hunches are still clicking, Johnny. She didn't know anything about
- 21:33it, huh, not a thing. Didn't even know her husband was up
- 21:37here. Look, gentlemen, I've already told you all about it. I
- 21:51saw Bixby's add in the paper about his cabin here being for saleed it sounded
- 21:55like just a thing that you and your wife had in mind, mister Putnam,
- 22:00exactly, so I can hold it right there. Putnam, you lied
- 22:03to us. I most certainly did not. Your wife doesn't seem to know
- 22:07anything about it. My wife, good lord, is she up here?
- 22:11No? No, I talked to her on the phone. You didn't tell
- 22:15her about my wanting to buy the cabin? Yeah, Putnam, I did.
- 22:18You lied, Putnam, And there could be a pretty good reason for
- 22:19it. Look, you knew Bixby's cabin was empty. You could have planted
- 22:23Russell's body there and then pretended to want to buy the place so Bixby would
- 22:26open it up and the body be discovered. It'd make a pretty good cover
- 22:30for you. Oh, gentlemen, Please, I'm in enough trouble as it
- 22:33is right now without you piling moron. I had nothing to do with Russell's
- 22:37murder. I didn't even know the man, what do you mean about being
- 22:40in trouble and with my wife. Look, it's probably hard for the two
- 22:45of you to understand. You don't know my wife, don't know your wife.
- 22:48What about it? I did lie about her wanting the cabin. She
- 22:52didn't know anything about it. We know that I just wanted the place too
- 22:56well to get away from her. Once in a while. Ants looked at
- 23:06me, and I looked at Ants, and I guess we both had the
- 23:10same idea, the idea that we do on another. In a long series
- 23:14of blanks we heard, putting them out a long and familiar tale of wool.
- 23:18We could establish no connection between him and the dead man, so we
- 23:22finally left. We left him in the middle of a long sentence about what
- 23:25his wife said to him every time he got home from the office late.
- 23:27Ants and I went outside. The lake was silver in the moonlight, and
- 23:32a million stars were crowding the sky. A goodnight to be young. But
- 23:36at the moment I was feeling ninety years old. Getting you down, Johnny,
- 23:42Yeah, yeah, right now, I feel like an old beat up
- 23:45merry around. I've been going around and round, and my bearings are getting
- 23:49creaky. Trouble is We've checked out just about everybody who could possibly be involved.
- 23:55It's motive that beats me ants. The only one we know of to
- 23:57gain by Russell's death is his wife, Leona. Beneficiary of it is fifty
- 24:00thousand dollars insurance poll Us. Yeah, but the Denver police established her in
- 24:04Denver at the time Russell was killed. Up here. Yeah, she couldn't
- 24:08be done it. We've got only one war lead as far as I can
- 24:11figure in. The guy who drives the local taxi here at the lake.
- 24:15H Yeah, he keeps his car right over there and that shit, And
- 24:18I know that's why I was heading this way. She had's empty though.
- 24:21Benny Norton told me when she was with Russell the night he got killed.
- 24:23As Hiram came up until Russell, somebody was looking for him drove him away.
- 24:27Hiram could have a line on the killer. But I can't seem to
- 24:30get a line on Hiram. I've tried to call him half a dozen times.
- 24:33I left a message for him to contact me, but I haven't had
- 24:34a word from him. I don't like it. Our boys are looking for
- 24:37him, no sign yet. Well, I'm not getting anywhere right now.
- 24:41Hey, look, if you're off doing the answer while you're drinking the hotel
- 24:44now I am. You got a deal. Course, there's one possibility been
- 24:49in the back of my mind all along, Johnny, probably in yours too.
- 24:53You mean the killer could be somebody we don't even know about, a
- 24:56stranger. Yeah, yeah, those are the toughest ones I know. Hmm.
- 25:02Lobby's kind of crowded tonight and getting into the busy season. Mister Dollar,
- 25:06it's Leona Russell. Excuse me a minute, dance meeting in the bar.
- 25:08You're right, get any of Missus Russell. I didn't know you were
- 25:14still here. I'm leaving in the morning. The sheriff asked me to come
- 25:17up here and make an identification of the body. I know afterwards, I
- 25:21just couldn't seem to get myself organized. I took one of the hotel cottages
- 25:25for a day or two. Such a peaceful spot up here, it's hard
- 25:30to believe. Yes, I understand, Missus Russell. Your husband came up
- 25:34here, apparently looking for a man named Bill. I've questioned two bills so
- 25:38far, calling the bartender and Jensen the boatkeeper. Those names mean anything to
- 25:42you, not that I recall That's what's so terrible about this whole thing,
- 25:48mister Dollar. There just doesn't seem to have been any connection between anybody up
- 25:52here and my husband. Why would anyone have done it? That's a good
- 25:56question, missus Russell, and right now it don't seem to have an answer
- 26:00for it. I went into the bar, but Aunt Scarrett was nowhere in
- 26:06sight. The bartender told me he'd been called away. Expensive con had I
- 26:10made seventy five cents one drink? I waited, Still no Garrett. After
- 26:18a while, I went on the back of the hotel to check on Hiram's
- 26:21taxicab. Nothing. The message I'd left him was still there. I went
- 26:26back into the bar, but ants didn't show up. Finally I went up
- 26:29to my room. Johnny Dollar An Scarrett, Johnny, Oh, Hi,
- 26:44I tried to call you in the bar just now. They told me you'd
- 26:45gone to your room. I got tired waiting for you. Sorry, I
- 26:48got holed away on official business. I'm calling from a gas station up near
- 26:52the three mile grade. Trombone plenty, Johnny. Seems like when you go
- 26:56looking for people, it always turns out to be bad luck them. What
- 27:00do you mean you came up here looking for Russell. He turned up dead.
- 27:03Now you've been looking for Hireum the taxi driver. Don't tell me afraid,
- 27:10So we just fished his body out of a ravine. Now here's our
- 27:29star to tell you about the final episode of this week's story tomorrow, the
- 27:33wind up, the payoff, a payoff with illegal tender lot lead Join us,
- 27:37won't you? Yours Truly Johnny Dollar? Yours Truly Johnny Dollar is starrying.
- 28:03Bob Bailey is transcribed in Hollywood, written by Robert Rife. It is
- 28:10produced and directed by Jack Johnstone. Be sure to join us tomorrow night,
- 28:15same time and station for the next exciting episode of Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar.
- 28:27This is Roy Rowan speaking welcome back now. Johnny is definitely in a
- 29:29spot here because the Cabby could have given so much vital information as to where
- 29:38Russell went to. I got to wonder where Johnny goes from here. I
- 29:42kind of hope that the woman who was last seen at him didn't have anything
- 29:47to do with it. I thought they had a wonderful scene in part three.
- 29:52This case does seem to be getting to Johnny a little bit with his
- 29:56pressing of the boat rental owner seems to be a little bit of the earlier
- 30:03style of really hitting accusations without any real hard evidence. But I'm sure it'll
- 30:12all turn out for the best, at least for Johnny on Friday. So
- 30:17join us back here for part five. All right, listener comments and feedback,
- 30:22And we have this from Chris, who says, I greatly appreciate your
- 30:26podcasts occupied in my time through monotonous task at work, commutes, and to
- 30:32put me at rest oring travel to various locations. I've been a listener to
- 30:37of OTR in various forms since my mid teens. I'm thirty four now.
- 30:41Johnny Doller, especially the Bob Bailey episodes, are, in my opinion,
- 30:45some of the best written radio stories of all time. Thank you for presenting
- 30:49them in a chronological fashion implies a certain feeling for the atmosphere and social norms
- 30:55of the time. Well, you're welcome, Chris. Yes. I recently
- 31:00we learned that Fa Mitchell Hedges of Crystal Skull fame had a radio program out
- 31:04of New York in the thirties documenting his traveling adventures. I wondered if you
- 31:10had any insight into any survival surviving recordings have said program, thanks for all
- 31:18that you do well, Chris, thanks so much, And that's a great
- 31:21question. I looked into it, and I could not find any record of
- 31:26any surviving programs, which doesn't mean that they're not out there, but that
- 31:32it may be in some private collection somewhere. But yeah, unfortunately, I'm
- 31:37not aware of any specific surviving episodes of that show. And really in the
- 31:45nineteen thirties there was a lot of loss programs, and we still we didn't
- 31:52really have that great nationwide system we had in the post war era which is
- 31:59made which may in general a lot of possible for a lot of transcription disc
- 32:04for a lot of shows to survive. All right, and we'll go ahead,
- 32:07and son off, I do want to encourage you to support our listener
- 32:10support Cammy. One thing we knew we've tried adding for this year and we'll
- 32:15see how it goes, is I added some Golden Age comic book collections for
- 32:22those who in particular follow the old time radio Superman program. So we have
- 32:29several Superman collections from the nineteen forties, including reprints of Sunday comic strips that
- 32:37are available as a thank you gift choice and We also have a Captain America
- 32:45Golden Age omnibus containing the first twelve issues of Captain America magazine and that one
- 32:52I added just because I had referenced it on the war But those range from
- 32:57thank you gifts from seventy five dollars on up. You can check out the
- 33:00full list of items available at support dot Great Detectives dot net. Well,
- 33:05that will do it for today, Join us tomorrow for Nick Carter. We
