Latest / FPL Pod / S7 Ep39: FPL Pod: Building from the back on Wildcard
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: International break means holidays for some but not completely for us.
- 0:04Speaker 1: On FPL pod, we try to avoid letting Jewels brag
- 0:07Speaker 1: about his score. We check in on the run in strategy,
- 0:10Speaker 1: and we start to build a potential wildcard squad. Yes,
- 0:17Speaker 1: hello guys, another international break, But of course we haven't
- 0:21Speaker 1: gone anywhere in terms of the podcast, at least a
- 0:23Speaker 1: few of us on our holidays, but we're still back
- 0:26Speaker 1: with you. Kelly, someone's Don in the run and Sam
- 0:28Speaker 1: Bonfield and Sam, I'm going to let you speak first
- 0:30Speaker 1: before mister I did really well last week because I
- 0:33Speaker 1: remember the deadline speaks.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I was really annoyed the first time he's remember
- 0:37Speaker 2: the deadline in fluminages and then absolutely smashes it.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Yeah, annoyingly.
- 0:43Speaker 2: I think we helped him too much last week. I
- 0:45Speaker 2: was like, oh, that's sort of like play has to
- 0:46Speaker 2: get our wildcard. He seemed to get loads of them.
- 0:49Speaker 2: But yeah, it was actually a good week for me,
- 0:51Speaker 2: Like I had a decent, decent week, a nice green arrow,
- 0:55Speaker 2: a Langa proving to be an absolute hero. So even
- 0:58Speaker 2: with the captaincy Blank, it was it was still good.
- 1:01Speaker 2: And my defense actually for once doing a really nice job.
- 1:04Speaker 2: The Doublasma defense coming in nicely and Timber picking up
- 1:07Speaker 2: three bonus points was very much an added bonus. Obviously,
- 1:11Speaker 2: Robinson also picking up a bonus point, which was good
- 1:13Speaker 2: as well. The Palma thing was just infuriating though, because
- 1:17Speaker 2: had I known he was injured, I definitely would have
- 1:19Speaker 2: sold him ahead of the deadline.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Think so many long people would have, wouldn't they?
- 1:22Speaker 2: So yeah, I would have absolutely would have done Palmer
- 1:24Speaker 2: to Bruno, and I was quite close to doing that anyway.
- 1:26Speaker 2: On Saturday morning when I got up, I was like, oh,
- 1:28Speaker 2: maybe I should. I should just take the risk and
- 1:30Speaker 2: take the minus four and do it, But in the
- 1:32Speaker 2: end decided not to just because you know, I didn't.
- 1:35Speaker 2: I wasn't convinced that selling Palmer for a minus four
- 1:37Speaker 2: was exactly the right thing. But on reflection then when
- 1:41Speaker 2: we hear he's not actually even in the squad, I
- 1:43Speaker 2: was like, still opportunity missed. So at least the legend
- 1:46Speaker 2: that is set Vandenberg was back from his injury, come
- 1:48Speaker 2: on from a.
- 1:48Speaker 3: One point cameo.
- 1:50Speaker 2: So the only time I've ever been to light to
- 1:52Speaker 2: via one point cameo. But yeah, fifty eight points for
- 1:54Speaker 2: me A nice green arrow, so I'm happy.
- 1:57Speaker 1: It was almost worse for me that I was so
- 1:58Speaker 1: well set because I had those two free transfers, and
- 2:01Speaker 1: at the very last minute I was so close. I
- 2:03Speaker 1: was texting the guy that produced the Fantasy show and
- 2:06Speaker 1: a couple of other friends, and I've promised myself I
- 2:08Speaker 1: won't keep doing minus fours. Just before the deadline, I
- 2:11Speaker 1: was so closer to it for Bruno, and I thought no,
- 2:12Speaker 1: because I've promised myself I won't. But yeah, Palmer, I
- 2:16Speaker 1: got grieves and zero points off the bench. So there
- 2:18Speaker 1: are tales of I want to say, WHOA. But I
- 2:20Speaker 1: didn't have a disastrous game. I was vaguely happy with it,
- 2:24Speaker 1: and then I saw your scorge always take it away,
- 2:28Speaker 1: thank you very much.
- 2:30Speaker 4: I had to wait for my time so I can
- 2:32Speaker 4: bragner seventier eight points, which is by far the best
- 2:35Speaker 4: week I've had. Let's be honest, I haven't had a
- 2:37Speaker 4: good season, but pretty much everything that I tried work,
- 2:41Speaker 4: including trouble upon United players for this.
- 2:44Speaker 5: Game against Leicester.
- 2:45Speaker 4: We said that Lester hadn't been playing really well, so
- 2:48Speaker 4: he was a good opportunity there. Bruno was given. As
- 2:51Speaker 4: we expland on last week's show. Then I wanted to
- 2:53Speaker 4: defender because I wanted to sell Van Dyke, so I
- 2:56Speaker 4: went for Jogo Dala, who for a long time in
- 2:59Speaker 4: that got a little bit frustrated until obviously the you know,
- 3:03Speaker 4: the assist, and then Ganacho was the third one. I
- 3:06Speaker 4: wasn't sure if I was go for Ganacho or another
- 3:08Speaker 4: attacking midfielder somewhere else really, and I just felt again
- 3:11Speaker 4: because he was less and because United were on decent
- 3:14Speaker 4: formed to be fair and slightly improving even that gannactual
- 3:17Speaker 4: could make sense too. I like him when he play
- 3:19Speaker 4: in that kind of insite information for position or in
- 3:23Speaker 4: that formation behind whoever the striker is.
- 3:26Speaker 5: And to be fair, he worked out well with Bruno
- 3:28Speaker 5: captain as well.
- 3:28Speaker 4: That got me thirty four points and then my first
- 3:31Speaker 4: transfer with Evan Wilson, which was not the best idea
- 3:33Speaker 4: I had, although to be fair, he should have scored
- 3:35Speaker 4: in the first half. He has one big chance, didn't
- 3:38Speaker 4: score so India and he's still very very good.
- 3:40Speaker 2: You got back there because you're wild cutting, right, So
- 3:43Speaker 2: because you're wildcarding, you could go for three men United
- 3:45Speaker 2: and not necessarily be an issue moving forward, whereas most
- 3:48Speaker 2: people couldn't do that.
- 3:50Speaker 4: Yeah, although I'm rethinking about keeping the worldcut for thirty one,
- 3:54Speaker 4: which we would discussed later on the show, simply because
- 3:57Speaker 4: the team was good now even with the three United
- 3:59Speaker 4: players the player Forest, but I think you could easily
- 4:01Speaker 4: see a nill and draw between those two because Forrests
- 4:04Speaker 4: would defend well and United creating against top teams as
- 4:08Speaker 4: they've struggle really this season. So I'm still quite tempted
- 4:12Speaker 4: to keep certainly Bruno and Dala and Sales for that game.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I'm going to hold the world card
- 4:17Speaker 3: as well.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Like when you look at your team, actually it kind
- 4:19Speaker 1: of my team didn't look so bad either, to be honest, Sam,
- 4:22Speaker 1: I just want to mention one little thing because on
- 4:24Speaker 1: the pod last week, I didn't know what my transfer
- 4:27Speaker 1: was going to be. But when we found out more
- 4:29Speaker 1: about Trent, I was like, I'm going to sell him,
- 4:30Speaker 1: and I was going to bring in Williams as well,
- 4:32Speaker 1: because I wanted.
- 4:32Speaker 3: To really downgrade.
- 4:34Speaker 1: But then all of the articles say, you know what's
- 4:36Speaker 1: coming head in the hands for your listeners, this is
- 4:37Speaker 1: a podcast rather than on YouTube. I then thought, well, actually,
- 4:41Speaker 1: Milenkovitch's goal threat is so good and all of the
- 4:43Speaker 1: stats have some really good articles on the Premier League
- 4:45Speaker 1: and things like that, So I'm just going to spend
- 4:47Speaker 1: that little bit more on go from Milenkovitch and I
- 4:48Speaker 1: thought you'd done the same. We didn't speak, but then
- 4:51Speaker 1: I checked not we didn't speak because it was a problem.
- 4:53Speaker 1: I'm just be I didn't text you about it. I
- 4:55Speaker 1: don't want to look like I've copied that because I
- 4:56Speaker 1: genuinely haven't, and I was going to go Williams. Then
- 4:58Speaker 1: I saw you'd gone Williams. I was jealous at first.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I wish i'd maybe I should have done that, and
- 5:03Speaker 1: then you didn't, and then Milankovitch got a Golden assist, So.
- 5:09Speaker 3: How are you feeling about that? Basically, I was really
- 5:11Speaker 3: hoping you weren't going to mention that.
- 5:14Speaker 1: You got you had a l anger, so that was okay,
- 5:16Speaker 1: I guess yeah.
- 5:17Speaker 2: I was just I was hoping that we just talked
- 5:19Speaker 2: about our anger and SKA over everything else that happened
- 5:21Speaker 2: at Forest.
- 5:22Speaker 1: No, you came on this podcast and said you were
- 5:23Speaker 1: doing it and didn't know, and when Jewels does that,
- 5:26Speaker 1: we have him.
- 5:26Speaker 3: So oh, you're right.
- 5:28Speaker 2: So I was really torn on all three of the
- 5:30Speaker 2: Forest Defenders. I think I said that last week, like
- 5:32Speaker 2: whether to spend a bit more and go for Ana,
- 5:34Speaker 2: whether to go middle grand and go for Milenkovitch, whether
- 5:36Speaker 2: to go with the cheapest option and go for Williams. So,
- 5:40Speaker 2: so honestly what happened on Friday, I was like, right,
- 5:43Speaker 2: I'm going to do some maths, and because I know
- 5:45Speaker 2: I want to reinvest in Palace four game week thirty,
- 5:48Speaker 2: so I was like, I need to make sure that
- 5:50Speaker 2: I've got enough money that if Mateta is back, I
- 5:52Speaker 2: can afford him, but also I can take him mind
- 5:54Speaker 2: as well and get me nose as well.
- 5:56Speaker 3: So I needed I wanted to make.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Sure that if I wanted both of those two plays,
- 6:00Speaker 2: I could have them both for this week, and with Milenkovitch,
- 6:03Speaker 2: I was point one short. So I decided to go
- 6:06Speaker 2: for Williams because, as we said with the stats last week,
- 6:09Speaker 2: the underlying numbers for Williams and his goal threat had
- 6:11Speaker 2: been far better than melnkvitch Is over the course of
- 6:14Speaker 2: the season. So I was like, well, it doesn't feel
- 6:16Speaker 2: like a massive compromise to spend the money on Williams
- 6:20Speaker 2: instead of Milenkovitch. Until I was until I was listening
- 6:24Speaker 2: to that Forest game and then Milenkovitch gets a goal
- 6:28Speaker 2: and an assists and I was like, this is going
- 6:30Speaker 2: to end.
- 6:30Speaker 3: At that point, they were still keeping the clean sheet.
- 6:32Speaker 2: I was like, this is going to be like an
- 6:33Speaker 2: eighteen point haul for him. And I was sort of
- 6:36Speaker 2: okay with it because Williams was getting a clean sheet
- 6:38Speaker 2: and obviously I had a linger.
- 6:40Speaker 3: But when the clean sheet, when I had an absolute rage.
- 6:43Speaker 5: I won't, I won't lie.
- 6:44Speaker 2: I was not happy at Oil on Saturday afternoon.
- 6:46Speaker 3: But yeah, that's why it was. It was simply a
- 6:49Speaker 3: budget thing.
- 6:50Speaker 1: And we also got the captaincy wrong, didn't we But
- 6:52Speaker 1: let's go over that. But also we knew that Bruno
- 6:55Speaker 1: was the right captain, but we didn't have him. So,
- 6:57Speaker 1: like we said last week, if you've got Bruno, he's.
- 6:59Speaker 3: The captain to have.
- 7:00Speaker 2: And had he been in my team, I had a
- 7:02Speaker 2: captain tim to be honest, because I didn't have Bruno,
- 7:06Speaker 2: the only person I really looked at was Chris Wood.
- 7:08Speaker 2: I never really thought about going anywhere else. As it happens,
- 7:11Speaker 2: there are a lot of other places I could have
- 7:12Speaker 2: gone to my team. I would have done Bedster, But yeah,
- 7:15Speaker 2: I think Bruno was the obvious captain, So well done
- 7:18Speaker 2: if you brought him.
- 7:18Speaker 3: In and had him as captain.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Okay, just to recap of our scores for the week,
- 7:22Speaker 1: then Jewels got seventy eight points. I got fifty points
- 7:26Speaker 1: and Jewel jews Ian got sixty seven, but to a
- 7:29Speaker 1: minus eight. Soho ended on fifty nine. Sam, you've got
- 7:31Speaker 1: fifty eight. Sam is still out in the lead on
- 7:34Speaker 1: one nine one one. I'm on one eight six two.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Jewels is on one eight twenty. There's forty two points
- 7:40Speaker 1: between myself and Jewels. Now, I'm confidently you've got your
- 7:43Speaker 1: assistant manager over me, though, Jewels.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Haven't you.
- 7:45Speaker 5: Yeah, I still have to play.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I cannot let you beat me.
- 7:50Speaker 2: I'm gonna go.
- 7:51Speaker 1: I'm getting slightly twitchy, and now I'm being a bit
- 7:54Speaker 1: realistic looking at my shoulder. I need you to get
- 7:56Speaker 1: a few more deadlines, please. I can't be beaten by
- 7:58Speaker 1: someone that missus deadlines as often as you do.
- 8:01Speaker 5: Okay, I have one twice this season three weeks. Life was.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Okay.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Then that's how we're doing in our mini league. That
- 8:11Speaker 1: the FBI of Mini League Max Little Proud is back
- 8:13Speaker 1: at the top. It's great because it's constantly changing between
- 8:17Speaker 1: him and Charlie. The fact that his top is quite
- 8:19Speaker 1: impressive because he did also captain Chris Wooden. Of course,
- 8:22Speaker 1: as we just discussed, he was a blank. He had
- 8:24Speaker 1: Bruno as his vice captain, which must be incredibly painful.
- 8:27Speaker 1: But also I'm sorry, if you're going to have Bruno
- 8:29Speaker 1: not captain him last week against Leicester, then you kind
- 8:32Speaker 1: of deserve it.
- 8:33Speaker 3: Max. Who am I getting cocky with the person? That's
- 8:36Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 8:38Speaker 1: He also got returns for Bowen and Robinson. Oh, I'm
- 8:40Speaker 1: Gabrielle and Wissa as well. Charlie has dropped a second.
- 8:43Speaker 1: You had a bit of a tough week, didn't He
- 8:44Speaker 1: forty three points, took a minus four, which means that
- 8:47Speaker 1: Max is now four points above him. Andrea, Casper, Henry
- 8:51Speaker 1: and Michael all rose massively in the league this week
- 8:54Speaker 1: as they captain Bruno just like Jules. They went up
- 8:56Speaker 1: to third, fourth and fifth and sixth even in the
- 8:59Speaker 1: league efectively. A reminder if you still haven't joined it,
- 9:01Speaker 1: what you do? And I read this code every week.
- 9:03Speaker 3: I know it in my sleep.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Q seven y C zero. If you do, you want
- 9:07Speaker 1: to join in with the fun, okay, then we've already
- 9:09Speaker 1: mentioned the w bottom the wild card. Bottom Samer said
- 9:13Speaker 1: she's not playing it as originally planned. A few weeks ago,
- 9:15Speaker 1: she was going to be playing in thirty she's decided
- 9:17Speaker 1: to play it. I thinking in thirty one or maybe after.
- 9:20Speaker 1: We'll ask her in a second. Jewles said he's going
- 9:22Speaker 1: to play in thirty one, so am I. The reason
- 9:24Speaker 1: for me is very simple. My team looks all right.
- 9:26Speaker 1: I don't have massive changes. I've still got a few
- 9:28Speaker 1: decisions to make. Jules, you're in a similar boat to me.
- 9:31Speaker 1: You like the look at your team. You took a
- 9:32Speaker 1: minus four. I'm guessing you just want to ride it
- 9:34Speaker 1: out another week.
- 9:35Speaker 5: Yeah, exactly.
- 9:36Speaker 4: And then I guess the closer you are to thirty two,
- 9:38Speaker 4: which is the first double game week, they will be
- 9:40Speaker 4: back to back double game weeks thirty two and thirty three.
- 9:42Speaker 4: Then the closser you can use the wild card, the
- 9:45Speaker 4: better it is because you know exactly the players you
- 9:47Speaker 4: would target. If you do in thirty there's a risk
- 9:49Speaker 4: that it can get injured in thirty before thirty one,
- 9:52Speaker 4: et cetera.
- 9:52Speaker 5: So if you can have your team as it is for.
- 9:56Speaker 4: Game week thirty and then wait until thirty one to play,
- 9:58Speaker 4: your wild card and then be read or even for
- 10:00Speaker 4: thirty two if you don't want to play your assetant
- 10:02Speaker 4: manager chip for me, because I would play the assetant
- 10:05Speaker 4: manager chip in thirty two and thirty three and thirty
- 10:07Speaker 4: four obviously to make the best use of the double
- 10:10Speaker 4: game weeks, then it makes sense to wait a little
- 10:12Speaker 4: bit and play the play the wild card for thirty
- 10:15Speaker 4: one and then be ready after that with my assistant manager.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Yeah, it makes total sense when you put it like that, Jeels.
- 10:19Speaker 1: But we know that international breaks are incredibly popular times
- 10:22Speaker 1: to play World cards. I often like playing them over
- 10:24Speaker 1: this period you have that little bit longer. But Sam,
- 10:26Speaker 1: it's also quite strange, isn't it, because we are used
- 10:29Speaker 1: to coming back from an international break and having Premier
- 10:30Speaker 1: League actually straight away. But we've also got the FA
- 10:33Speaker 1: Cup that weekend too. In the first round of Premier
- 10:35Speaker 1: League is the week after if you are what god,
- 10:37Speaker 1: and you've got even longer.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Yeah, because it's a MIDWEK round of fixtures, right, so
- 10:41Speaker 2: be a Tuesday deadline for game week thirty. That's the
- 10:43Speaker 2: only thing that puts me off the wildcard in thirty
- 10:45Speaker 2: one is that Tuesday deadline. And then you've got to
- 10:47Speaker 2: get ready for the Saturday, so it's just going to
- 10:49Speaker 2: be a short turn around with that worldcard, less time
- 10:51Speaker 2: to think about it, Whereas obviously if you do it now,
- 10:53Speaker 2: you've got loads of time to think about it and
- 10:55Speaker 2: you can still react to the FA Cup.
- 10:57Speaker 3: So I don't know why I still was quite too
- 11:00Speaker 3: on it.
- 11:00Speaker 2: I think the fact that you get you're probably going
- 11:04Speaker 2: to get some information about when those reschedule fictions are
- 11:06Speaker 2: going to go.
- 11:07Speaker 3: I was kind of intrigued by what.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Joe said though, because obviously means you're not planning to
- 11:11Speaker 2: free hitting game week thirty four for the blank if
- 11:13Speaker 2: you're going to assistant manager in thirty two, thirty three,
- 11:15Speaker 2: and thirty four, so your wild card is going to
- 11:17Speaker 2: have to be set up to cover that blank game
- 11:19Speaker 2: week with players that you have in Yeah.
- 11:21Speaker 4: Because the thing is we don't know, yeah, who's going
- 11:23Speaker 4: to blank either, So depending on how it turns out
- 11:27Speaker 4: to be, you might be okay with your team, and
- 11:30Speaker 4: you can build your world Guard team knowing who's going
- 11:32Speaker 4: to blank and who's not going to blank. So that
- 11:34Speaker 4: should be easier than if it was maybe made in
- 11:39Speaker 4: a different way. That's why I was a bit more optimistic.
- 11:41Speaker 4: I just think, I mean, yeah, I just think I
- 11:45Speaker 4: would rather wait until as late as possible to play
- 11:47Speaker 4: the wild card for the two double game week to
- 11:49Speaker 4: make us as to use them as to try to
- 11:52Speaker 4: benefit as much as possible from this two double game
- 11:54Speaker 4: weeks back to back, and again we won't know until
- 11:58Speaker 4: until the FA Cup has been being played who's going
- 12:00Speaker 4: to double and who's not going to double in less
- 12:02Speaker 4: end with the blanks, So that was the only reason,
- 12:05Speaker 4: because originally my plan was to do that. But I
- 12:08Speaker 4: can also keep the free for example, for game week
- 12:11Speaker 4: thirty six, which would be another double game week, potentially
- 12:14Speaker 4: quite a big one, and then if you have your
- 12:16Speaker 4: free hit left for that, you can play it then
- 12:19Speaker 4: and be very effective with it.
- 12:21Speaker 1: I guess it's also quite useful that actually, by the
- 12:23Speaker 1: game week thirty deadline, we will have seen the FA Cup,
- 12:25Speaker 1: so flip what I said before about it being even longer,
- 12:28Speaker 1: so we have Premier League action. By the time we
- 12:29Speaker 1: do next have a deadline, we will actually know a
- 12:32Speaker 1: lot more about about that blank sandwich, which actually helps.
- 12:35Speaker 1: So I almost wonder if maybe after that FA Cup
- 12:37Speaker 1: weekend we could see maybe a few wildcards active but
- 12:39Speaker 1: people change their strategy after that weekend before the next deadline.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Would not surprise me if we see a sudden spike
- 12:46Speaker 2: in wild Cards being played on Sunday evening, like once
- 12:48Speaker 2: we know exactly who's blanking in the FA Cup and
- 12:51Speaker 2: then obviously who's also going to have a double a
- 12:53Speaker 2: little bit later on, then it wouldn't surprise me to
- 12:56Speaker 2: see a massive spike in them. I think that it
- 12:59Speaker 2: goes back to what you and Joy said before, though,
- 13:01Speaker 2: is that most people will open the app or the
- 13:03Speaker 2: website happening upon how you do it, and we'll look
- 13:05Speaker 2: at their team for this week and go, oh, actually,
- 13:07Speaker 2: that looks quite nice, because the majority of people that
- 13:09Speaker 2: we targeted in Game week twenty nine actually still have
- 13:12Speaker 2: a nice fixture in Game week thirty. So it will
- 13:15Speaker 2: give us the opportunity, I think, to kind of just
- 13:20Speaker 2: take a bit of a breath. And obviously the longer
- 13:22Speaker 2: you leave it with the World Card, the more information
- 13:24Speaker 2: that you have. And it's not just information about the
- 13:26Speaker 2: FA Cup. It's information about players like Palma, even players
- 13:29Speaker 2: like Socca, who hasn't been on our radar for such
- 13:31Speaker 2: a long time, but at some point we're expecting him
- 13:33Speaker 2: to come back. So the longer you can wait, you'll
- 13:36Speaker 2: get more information not just on the FA Cup and
- 13:38Speaker 2: who's doubling, and hopefully before game week thirty one when
- 13:42Speaker 2: they're doubling, because that will also make a difference as well.
- 13:44Speaker 2: If those fixtures are going into game week thirty three,
- 13:46Speaker 2: if they're going into thirty two, if they're going into
- 13:48Speaker 2: thirty six, all of that might change the way that
- 13:51Speaker 2: you use the wildcard because obviously the wildcard you're setting
- 13:54Speaker 2: up for a few weeks, but you're not setting up
- 13:56Speaker 2: to never change it again. So you would want to
- 13:59Speaker 2: make sure that if those doubles come in earlier than
- 14:02Speaker 2: we were maybe planning, that you've been able to target
- 14:04Speaker 2: them and then change them up for the weeks that follow.
- 14:07Speaker 2: So yeah, I think it's useful. The FA Cup being
- 14:11Speaker 2: there is really handy. You're just going to get more
- 14:13Speaker 2: information again if you wait for thirty one, but I
- 14:15Speaker 2: think you could absolutely play it Sunday night, and obviously,
- 14:18Speaker 2: of course if there's any international breake injuries, then you
- 14:21Speaker 2: can react to those as well.
- 14:23Speaker 1: I guess the key, particularly for Usuals in terms of
- 14:26Speaker 1: using the Assistant Manager chip is you've got to remember
- 14:28Speaker 1: that you've got three weeks to the Assistant Manager chip
- 14:31Speaker 1: plus your wild Card chip, plus your bench boost plus
- 14:34Speaker 1: your free hits.
- 14:35Speaker 3: So you've got six game weeks where you're going to
- 14:38Speaker 3: have a chip.
- 14:38Speaker 1: In play, and you've got to make sure that you
- 14:40Speaker 1: use your Assistant Manager at the right point that it
- 14:42Speaker 1: doesn't cover a three week period the way you'd maybe
- 14:45Speaker 1: want to use your free hit for example, as Tam
- 14:47Speaker 1: said before.
- 14:49Speaker 4: Yeah, you're right, I mean for me and for all
- 14:51Speaker 4: I guess all of the listeners still have that Assistant
- 14:53Speaker 4: Manager chip. Really, the two double game weeks in thirty
- 14:55Speaker 4: to thirty three makes so much sense, right.
- 14:57Speaker 5: Because you should target that.
- 15:00Speaker 4: Either you play it from thirty one, so thirty one,
- 15:03Speaker 4: thirty two, thirty three, and then you can have your
- 15:05Speaker 4: freight for example for the blank in thirty four, and
- 15:08Speaker 4: then you play your wild card in my case in
- 15:10Speaker 4: thirty and that's that's very possible too, or you just
- 15:13Speaker 4: wait a little bit for the World card, play your
- 15:15Speaker 4: Assistant Manager chip thirty two, three and then four I
- 15:19Speaker 4: know it's a blank, but still and then and then
- 15:22Speaker 4: use then bench boost and free hit for later the
- 15:26Speaker 4: double game week for example, in thirty six, you can
- 15:28Speaker 4: keep the free hit for thirty eight, like some usually says,
- 15:31Speaker 4: to have a lot of fun on the last game
- 15:33Speaker 4: of the last day of the season, game week of
- 15:34Speaker 4: the season.
- 15:35Speaker 5: So there's a lot of things you can do.
- 15:37Speaker 4: So it's how you feel about assistant manager chip really,
- 15:39Speaker 4: because this is the key wherever you use it. Now,
- 15:42Speaker 4: thirty two thirty three, I think it's a given. So
- 15:44Speaker 4: it's either thirty one or thirty four to go with
- 15:46Speaker 4: thirty two and thirty three, and then you can adjust
- 15:49Speaker 4: for the other chip that you have left really and
- 15:51Speaker 4: for the world card.
- 15:53Speaker 5: So yeah, I think it's I'm not sure if there's
- 15:55Speaker 5: one much better than the other.
- 15:56Speaker 1: To be fair, jus, you and I actually just rerayer
- 15:59Speaker 1: as I listed your ships. But you've got triple captain
- 16:01Speaker 1: like me as well, haven't you because us two doing
- 16:02Speaker 1: Sam doesn't or did you triple captain in the end?
- 16:04Speaker 3: I've forgotten. No, I use mine already sal in the
- 16:08Speaker 3: last double didn't he?
- 16:09Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 16:09Speaker 3: Forgot?
- 16:09Speaker 1: Yeah, Okay, so I've got triple captain over you, and
- 16:12Speaker 1: you've got assistant manager.
- 16:13Speaker 3: Over me SR.
- 16:14Speaker 1: I really I am looking over my shoulder now, Okay,
- 16:20Speaker 1: we'll move on from this because it's really hard to
- 16:22Speaker 1: kind of talk too much about chip strategy because everyone's
- 16:25Speaker 1: teams are so different, and now we've got another chip
- 16:27Speaker 1: in the game in the assistant manager as well. Everyone's
- 16:29Speaker 1: scenario is so different. But just do what's best for
- 16:31Speaker 1: your team, and just make sure you remember the assistant
- 16:33Speaker 1: manager goes across three game weeks and make the most
- 16:36Speaker 1: of those doubles. Basically look at the doubles, work out
- 16:39Speaker 1: how your team looks in those, and work out which
- 16:40Speaker 1: is the best chip to use in each. Don't kind
- 16:42Speaker 1: of get caught short when they come. And a reminder
- 16:45Speaker 1: that the FA Cup is before the next round of
- 16:47Speaker 1: Premier League action. And don't worry too much if you
- 16:50Speaker 1: decide on the Sunday night to actually play wildcard or
- 16:52Speaker 1: another chip.
- 16:53Speaker 3: It's never too late again.
- 16:55Speaker 1: And talking of wild cards over the next couple of pods,
- 16:57Speaker 1: because we've got a couple of pods. In fact, Sam,
- 16:59Speaker 1: have we got three pods before the next headline?
- 17:01Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 17:01Speaker 2: This one one on Thursday next week, and then one
- 17:04Speaker 2: the following Monday. Will be constantly busy, you know they
- 17:08Speaker 2: say sometimes there's too much.
- 17:13Speaker 5: I'll diary.
- 17:17Speaker 1: This week, Jels, It's Thursday next week and then it's
- 17:19Speaker 1: Mondays actually right if you're not watching on YouTube.
- 17:22Speaker 3: Yeah, So, as I.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Said, sometimes you can have too much of a good thing,
- 17:25Speaker 1: and I'm wondering if we're teaching on that, but it
- 17:27Speaker 1: does give us plenty of opportunities to really help you
- 17:30Speaker 1: with those wild cards. So we're going to focus on
- 17:32Speaker 1: today's pod on the defensive position, so goalkeepers and defenders
- 17:35Speaker 1: and who we think are currently the best keepers in
- 17:38Speaker 1: the game. There'll be some similarities I imagine in our
- 17:41Speaker 1: free hit chat that we had in the last pod,
- 17:44Speaker 1: but we'll go with it all the same. It's quite
- 17:45Speaker 1: nice to take stock at this point of the season
- 17:47Speaker 1: as well. So best goalkeepers in the game. There are
- 17:50Speaker 1: five as it stands to have scored over one hundred
- 17:53Speaker 1: points and for me, Jeels you've owned him, Cells has
- 17:56Speaker 1: been the best goalkeeper in the game.
- 17:59Speaker 3: The points say it. Everything says it.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Nothin Forest has been so good defensively if you've owned him,
- 18:03Speaker 1: it's been a master strokers you have, Yeah, I think so.
- 18:06Speaker 5: I mean league and legend as you as you know.
- 18:09Speaker 4: So I'm always cheering for the former either the French
- 18:12Speaker 4: players or the former French.
- 18:14Speaker 5: TOOPLU players obviously, but it's great as well to.
- 18:16Speaker 4: See him at this kind of late stage of his
- 18:18Speaker 4: career really, because that's why it is being so efficient
- 18:21Speaker 4: that the best defense in the in the league, they've
- 18:23Speaker 4: kept the most clean sheet for example, and it's been
- 18:26Speaker 4: very good. It's not always perfect, as we saw against
- 18:28Speaker 4: Ipswich which cost us all a clean sheet meet with
- 18:31Speaker 4: him and you girls with with Williams and Milenkovic, but
- 18:34Speaker 4: still there, they've been very solid and I expect them
- 18:38Speaker 4: as close at the end of the year arrives and
- 18:40Speaker 4: they have to grind out some results to make sure
- 18:42Speaker 4: that they qualify for the Champions League, which right now,
- 18:44Speaker 4: to be honest for them, looks quite likely to get.
- 18:47Speaker 5: Those even a nil Neil draw.
- 18:48Speaker 4: I think they'll be happy if they can pick what
- 18:50Speaker 4: there's eight games left or something like eight draws. I
- 18:53Speaker 4: think they would take that, and I'm sure they will
- 18:55Speaker 4: still make the Champions League for example. So you would expect,
- 18:57Speaker 4: I think again, for us to be very strong defense
- 19:00Speaker 4: stively first and foremost, before even thinking to attack or
- 19:03Speaker 4: play in transition, play on the counter, whatever way is.
- 19:05Speaker 5: I think they will. They will want to be very.
- 19:07Speaker 4: Solid defensively first and foremost, so there's more clinches to come,
- 19:11Speaker 4: even if their fixture schedules is quite tough.
- 19:14Speaker 5: To be fair, it's not.
- 19:16Speaker 4: I don't think it's the easiest, although they are quite
- 19:18Speaker 4: higher up in the the thing, the ticker, whatever it's called.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:22Speaker 5: Fore I still think there's a few tricky there United Villa.
- 19:25Speaker 5: You know, that's not easy.
- 19:27Speaker 4: Spurs you never know. So there's there's games that won't
- 19:29Speaker 4: be easy for them, but I would expect many more
- 19:31Speaker 4: clan chis did.
- 19:33Speaker 1: One thing's also bear in mind, though, is that not
- 19:34Speaker 1: sk and Forest are still in the FA Cup. They
- 19:36Speaker 1: play Brighton on Saturday, the twenty ninth of March, so
- 19:39Speaker 1: they could still blank in thirty four. So George, it's
- 19:42Speaker 1: okay for you, isn't it, Because you've got Crystal. You've
- 19:45Speaker 1: got him and Henderson, haven't you.
- 19:46Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, So potentially.
- 19:49Speaker 3: I don't worry to play your other keeper. But you've
- 19:51Speaker 3: got to. You've got to bear that in mind, haven't you.
- 19:54Speaker 3: If you're not really that's why you.
- 19:55Speaker 4: Play the wild cards, you know, in thirty or thirty first.
- 19:57Speaker 4: So thirty one, as we said, with a an idea
- 20:00Speaker 4: already of what you're going to do for thirty four
- 20:02Speaker 4: it's all about planning, vision and talent obviously, as it's
- 20:05Speaker 4: going to take you to say.
- 20:06Speaker 1: That after sales it's Raya, than Pickford, Henderson, Drew signs
- 20:12Speaker 1: and then own Ona Sam tell us where you're currently
- 20:14Speaker 1: out and best goalkeepers for the rest of the season.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Do we really want my opinion on the best goalkeepers
- 20:19Speaker 2: because else to get lead to come back and give
- 20:25Speaker 2: kid goalkeepers. Yeah, so I think Cells is up there,
- 20:30Speaker 2: and I think this is what you said before calls
- 20:32Speaker 2: is an exact example. Because the other thing is is
- 20:34Speaker 2: that if you've still got your bench boost left and
- 20:36Speaker 2: you're going to play that between now and the end
- 20:37Speaker 2: of the season, if you are wildcarding, you will need
- 20:39Speaker 2: to make sure that you do have a second playing goalkeeper.
- 20:42Speaker 2: So you want to either look for a pair of
- 20:45Speaker 2: rotating ones so that you can then use them, but
- 20:48Speaker 2: then you want them ideally to both have a nice
- 20:50Speaker 2: fixture in the week that you're planning to use your
- 20:53Speaker 2: bench boost, or you want to pick one goalkeeper like
- 20:57Speaker 2: Cells and then have a really cheap second option who's
- 21:01Speaker 2: also got a nice fixture in that blank so or
- 21:05Speaker 2: in that double rather so like for me, I'm pondering
- 21:08Speaker 2: on playing my benchbiece shipping game week thirty two, so
- 21:12Speaker 2: although it's not a huge double game week, I think
- 21:14Speaker 2: having wild carded in thirty one that would put me
- 21:16Speaker 2: in a really nice position where I could really target
- 21:19Speaker 2: in on the teams that I've got that double ie
- 21:22Speaker 2: Crystal Palace and Newcastle, and then after that I can
- 21:25Speaker 2: afford to strips some money out of the bench and
- 21:27Speaker 2: reinvest it back into the starting eleven for the rest
- 21:30Speaker 2: of the season, which is something that I always like
- 21:32Speaker 2: to do. And obviously taking money out of the second
- 21:34Speaker 2: goalkeeper is ideal, so when I have a look at
- 21:36Speaker 2: like the goalkeeper, that might be an option there. Obviously
- 21:40Speaker 2: Sales has as Everton that week, so that's a nice fixture,
- 21:44Speaker 2: but then you know, when you look at other options,
- 21:46Speaker 2: like Ariola is the probably the obvious cheap one, but
- 21:49Speaker 2: then he faces Liverpool that week, so how far do
- 21:52Speaker 2: we think that he's going to get points? Whereas you know,
- 21:55Speaker 2: maybe I could go for I don't know, like Brighton
- 21:58Speaker 2: have Leicester so and would be quite a nice cheap
- 22:01Speaker 2: option to go alongside Sales that week. But then I
- 22:04Speaker 2: also quite fancy little cheeky punt on Nick Pope because
- 22:07Speaker 2: Nick Pope obviously would have a double that week. The
- 22:10Speaker 2: fixtures are nice between now and the end of the season.
- 22:12Speaker 2: Nucoso are top of the FDR between now and the
- 22:15Speaker 2: end ow Obviously that is slightly skewed by the fact
- 22:17Speaker 2: that they've got a double game week, but only so
- 22:19Speaker 2: slightly because you see pallatt a much much further down
- 22:22Speaker 2: on the ticker and so and I could then play
- 22:25Speaker 2: that maybe even in a later game week like in
- 22:28Speaker 2: thirty six, like you all says that we're expecting to
- 22:30Speaker 2: be another double or even in thirty three. So Pope
- 22:34Speaker 2: is up there definitely in the conversation between now and
- 22:36Speaker 2: the end of the season as they look to really
- 22:38Speaker 2: focus in on making sure that they hit Champions League
- 22:41Speaker 2: football for the new season of finish as hyper as
- 22:43Speaker 2: possible in the league.
- 22:45Speaker 1: I owned Jordan Pickford and he's owned by almost nineteen
- 22:48Speaker 1: percent of the game. But if I check out ever
- 22:51Speaker 1: since fixtures going forward, we know how good Everton are
- 22:53Speaker 1: defensively so much as their success has been built on that.
- 22:55Speaker 1: And he gets save points as well, doesn't he? But yeah,
- 22:58Speaker 1: Fulham are the only team that have a harder running
- 23:00Speaker 1: than Everton. Is it time to get rich?
- 23:02Speaker 3: Jews. You think of him on a World card it's.
- 23:05Speaker 4: I think it's just difficult. Really when you look at
- 23:07Speaker 4: a Liverpool, Arsenal, Forest City Chelsea before you play Ipswich,
- 23:11Speaker 4: this is like the next five are so difficult. Then, yeah,
- 23:15Speaker 4: that doesn't mean they can't get wins and can't get
- 23:17Speaker 4: games some of those games that they don't consider at all,
- 23:20Speaker 4: and pick forgets a good nine points or ten points
- 23:23Speaker 4: holds things like that.
- 23:24Speaker 5: Of course, everything is always possible, but you look at
- 23:27Speaker 5: this and with all.
- 23:28Speaker 4: The other options that you can have, and you can
- 23:30Speaker 4: go from Pickford to Pope or to ride out to
- 23:33Speaker 4: Sales or to you know, whatever you can afford. Really,
- 23:35Speaker 4: I think there is a better option. If you can't
- 23:38Speaker 4: really move away from Pickford because you don't have the budget,
- 23:41Speaker 4: you have other positions that you want to change. I
- 23:43Speaker 4: think keep him because it will still be not a
- 23:47Speaker 4: bad call to be fair, because you don't Pickford, and
- 23:49Speaker 4: because you say a turn and they can be very
- 23:50Speaker 4: good defensively, but those those fixtures are still scary.
- 23:55Speaker 3: Who then, are the best goalkeepers? Would you say? If
- 23:58Speaker 3: you're World carding now, Sam, you guys, I.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Think I'd still have Areola as the backup probably or
- 24:04Speaker 2: maybe Vibrogrin if you've got the extra money to spend there.
- 24:06Speaker 3: But I think you'd be cheating for me.
- 24:08Speaker 2: I'll be choosing between Pope and Sales on wild card,
- 24:10Speaker 2: and part of that, I think I'm leaning more towards
- 24:13Speaker 2: Pope simply because with cells, I can pick a forest
- 24:16Speaker 2: defender much much more easily than I can and Newcastle
- 24:20Speaker 2: when we'll talk about defenders in a minute.
- 24:21Speaker 3: But I think the value that you get and the.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Attacking threat that you get out of those forest defenders
- 24:27Speaker 2: would just sway me towards having Pope rather than the
- 24:30Speaker 2: defensive double up.
- 24:31Speaker 1: I guess maybe a couple of weeks ago you might
- 24:33Speaker 1: have been a little bit more worried about Pope with
- 24:34Speaker 1: Debravka's form, But I get all those concerns gone now
- 24:37Speaker 1: stand back his minutes.
- 24:38Speaker 2: Yeah, And I think that's the other thing, isn't it
- 24:40Speaker 2: that for me, he is their number one goalkeeper. I
- 24:43Speaker 2: would expect Pope to play every game until the end
- 24:45Speaker 2: of the season, barring an injury or something major happening,
- 24:48Speaker 2: and so yeah, I don't have any concerns about that. Plus,
- 24:51Speaker 2: you know, you would have a playing second goalkeeper for
- 24:53Speaker 2: now anyway, just to make sure that you had that
- 24:55Speaker 2: for the bench boost anyway, Jules, your two keepers.
- 24:59Speaker 4: Yeah, I agree with if with someone Pope, I think
- 25:01Speaker 4: if you can that's a that's a really good that's
- 25:03Speaker 4: a good idea. I would not want to double up
- 25:06Speaker 4: either now have two one forest keeper and one forest defenders.
- 25:11Speaker 4: And for Newcastle I think the points are so valuable
- 25:14Speaker 4: now between that and the end of the season, you
- 25:15Speaker 4: can't I think, take the risk of trying to doubling
- 25:18Speaker 4: up defensively because obviously if one goal goes in then
- 25:21Speaker 4: you lose potentially more points than if you have one
- 25:24Speaker 4: Newcastle and one Forest and one Arsenal and one this
- 25:27Speaker 4: and one etcetera. So yeah, I like cells still, and
- 25:31Speaker 4: you don't need to have a forest defender if you
- 25:32Speaker 4: don't want to, and you can have Sales or the
- 25:34Speaker 4: other way around. Pope. I like Riat because the fixtures
- 25:37Speaker 4: are decent from an arsenal point of view. Really Everton
- 25:40Speaker 4: Brentford if switched Pallas before Burnemouth and Liverpool, So before
- 25:45Speaker 4: you get to Bournemouth and Liverpool, I guess there's some
- 25:47Speaker 4: points probably there defensively to be taken from them again
- 25:50Speaker 4: without doubling up, so it depends really where you're going
- 25:53Speaker 4: then into your defenders, and that's why I think we
- 25:55Speaker 4: put goodkeepers and defenders very often together.
- 25:58Speaker 3: Wonderful Seguay, thank you very much put them together.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Of course, in this podcast, there are thirteen defenders who
- 26:06Speaker 1: have broken the one hundred point barrier already this season.
- 26:09Speaker 3: It's been quite nice.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Some of the attacking defenders have really returned well this
- 26:13Speaker 1: season and have been really fun to own. I look
- 26:14Speaker 1: at Kirkz he's not as high up as I expected,
- 26:17Speaker 1: but he's had a brilliant season. I've enjoyed owning him
- 26:19Speaker 1: at his price point, that's for sure. I do feel
- 26:22Speaker 1: like we need to start this conversation with the top
- 26:23Speaker 1: scoring defender in the game, Trent Alexander Arnold, because he
- 26:26Speaker 1: has read a flag. We don't know exactly when he'll back,
- 26:29Speaker 1: but I think arno Slot's wording was something about around
- 26:31Speaker 1: the end of the season or by the end of
- 26:33Speaker 1: the season, so it's vague, but it doesn't sound good.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Myself and Sam sold him last week. I imagine we'd
- 26:39Speaker 1: recommend for everyone to sell him given how much money
- 26:41Speaker 1: he costs, and he is being heavily sold at the moment.
- 26:43Speaker 1: But what do you do in general about Liverpool defenders
- 26:45Speaker 1: do you think, Sam, Well, that.
- 26:48Speaker 3: Is a good question.
- 26:48Speaker 2: I'm not going there, even though they sit quite nicely
- 26:51Speaker 2: on the fictionure ticker, and even though they have absolutely
- 26:55Speaker 2: nothing else to play for because obviously they're out of
- 26:57Speaker 2: the Champion Zegue, they're out of the FA Cup. So
- 27:00Speaker 2: the fact that they're fifth on the fixture ticket and
- 27:01Speaker 2: they have a run of fixtures that we is Everton,
- 27:03Speaker 2: full and west Ham Leicester would absolutely in a normal
- 27:07Speaker 2: season be highly attractive as an FBI asset, right You'd
- 27:12Speaker 2: be like, right, perfect, I'll get Trent, I'll get Virgil.
- 27:14Speaker 3: My issue is is that they regularly just concede one goal.
- 27:17Speaker 3: It's just like the odd goal here or there.
- 27:20Speaker 2: Where they kind of just appear to go to sleep
- 27:22Speaker 2: for a minute and then concede one. And it's so
- 27:24Speaker 2: frustrating as an FBL owner because you look at it
- 27:27Speaker 2: and you're like, oh, come on man, that's like four
- 27:29Speaker 2: points that you've just cost me, plus the potential for
- 27:31Speaker 2: some bonus points, and I think their value point they're
- 27:35Speaker 2: very expensive. So the only we didn't mention Allison in
- 27:38Speaker 2: the goalkeepers But if you really wanted to go with
- 27:41Speaker 2: a Liverpool defender, then I'd probably go there because for me, yes,
- 27:44Speaker 2: Virgil isn't it he's a threat from set pieces, but
- 27:47Speaker 2: with Trent not there, I think Liverpool are less good
- 27:51Speaker 2: in attack anyway. So I'm going to be avoiding the
- 27:54Speaker 2: Liverpool defense, which seems ridiculous given that they're likely to
- 27:57Speaker 2: go on to win the league and.
- 27:59Speaker 1: Also the fact that they don't have any other distractions,
- 28:01Speaker 1: do they because all focus now is going to be
- 28:03Speaker 1: on the Premier League after a disappointing week for them, Jeels,
- 28:06Speaker 1: I'm expecting a bit of a wounded animal to come
- 28:09Speaker 1: back for this run.
- 28:09Speaker 4: And what about you, Yeah, probably, although I think we
- 28:12Speaker 4: all expected the reaction after the PhD defeat in the
- 28:15Speaker 4: Champi's League against your Castle in the Liakup final and
- 28:17Speaker 4: we didn't see it again.
- 28:19Speaker 5: Like they were they were very poor, like they were really.
- 28:22Speaker 4: In the first game against PHG and to some extent
- 28:24Speaker 4: in some of the game in the in the second
- 28:26Speaker 4: leg on fields.
- 28:27Speaker 5: So I don't know. The next game is the derby, which.
- 28:30Speaker 4: Again, even if it's a home I think it's still
- 28:33Speaker 4: still a derby against Everton and we saw what happened
- 28:35Speaker 4: so in the reverse picture with the lake Tarkovs goal
- 28:38Speaker 4: and all of that. So this is not going to
- 28:39Speaker 4: be easy for them either, and you could expect, I
- 28:42Speaker 4: think Everton to be very strong defensively and to try
- 28:45Speaker 4: to nullify Salah again and all the attacking players at Liverpool.
- 28:49Speaker 4: So it's not Yeah, I don't think it's the next
- 28:52Speaker 4: few games are easy for them, considering the week that
- 28:55Speaker 4: you said, a horror that they had with the Champianoneague
- 28:58Speaker 4: elimination and then that defeating the leak up for item
- 29:00Speaker 4: that usually doesn't lose defeat, so doesn't losing defeat so
- 29:04Speaker 4: in final sorry, so it'd.
- 29:06Speaker 5: Be very interesting to do.
- 29:06Speaker 4: I would not go there defensively either, and even going
- 29:10Speaker 4: forward with the ball, I'm not sure really, apart from Salai,
- 29:13Speaker 4: if you would be ready to invest in Liverpool either.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Okay, so you both said you're probably going to go
- 29:18Speaker 1: with Matt Sells in the forest goal, and Jewels already
- 29:20Speaker 1: has mentioned Sam that he probably isn't comfortable doubling up
- 29:23Speaker 1: with the defender and a forest goalkeeper.
- 29:25Speaker 3: Are you kind of thinking the same.
- 29:27Speaker 2: Yeah, one hundred percent, And I think for me that's
- 29:30Speaker 2: probably why are on the side of Pope over sales
- 29:32Speaker 2: in goal because I really like the Forest defenders. I
- 29:36Speaker 2: think their attacking threat is so good. Whether you want
- 29:38Speaker 2: to spend the budget that you need to spend on
- 29:39Speaker 2: a whether you go for a Williams or whether you
- 29:41Speaker 2: go from a link of Itch, they all have really
- 29:43Speaker 2: nice attacking threat from different things. So Williams is really
- 29:47Speaker 2: good in front of goal, like he's got the biggest
- 29:50Speaker 2: goal threat of the three of them. I mean you
- 29:52Speaker 2: could go from Marino as well. Probably shouldn't completely ignore him.
- 29:56Speaker 2: He's in the conversation as well. But I think for
- 29:58Speaker 2: me a bit like it was last week, it really
- 30:01Speaker 2: comes down to a straight choice between Williams and Milenkovitch,
- 30:03Speaker 2: and so it's just then which one do you want
- 30:05Speaker 2: to go to? Which one can you afford like because
- 30:07Speaker 2: there is that little bit of difference in the price point,
- 30:10Speaker 2: but both of them offering really really nice value for money.
- 30:13Speaker 2: Forest sitting nicely on the ticker with all to play
- 30:16Speaker 2: for towards the back end of the season. Okay, there's
- 30:18Speaker 2: potentially the distraction of the FA Cup as they're still
- 30:20Speaker 2: in that one, and I think I expect them to
- 30:23Speaker 2: go through in the FA Cup, I think just so
- 30:26Speaker 2: for me Forest defenders, yes, absolutely, I think on wild
- 30:30Speaker 2: cards I'll probably go for Milenkovitch because I can adjust
- 30:33Speaker 2: the price that I've got everywhere else so that I
- 30:35Speaker 2: can afford to have him, because I think that feels
- 30:38Speaker 2: like the right thing to do. But if you've only
- 30:40Speaker 2: got the budget for Williams like I did last week,
- 30:42Speaker 2: I know the outcome of that wasn't exactly what I wanted,
- 30:45Speaker 2: but it still does make sense to be invested in
- 30:47Speaker 2: that Forest defense with him.
- 30:49Speaker 1: Okay, I'm trying to avoid going through every single team,
- 30:52Speaker 1: but let's try and look at teams that have been
- 30:54Speaker 1: popular defensively. Arsenal Gabrielle is fourth on the list, after
- 31:00Speaker 1: Alexander Arnold and two Forest defends in Ana Emilenkovich, and
- 31:03Speaker 1: then after gabriel was actually Saliba as well. Is it
- 31:06Speaker 1: still good to be doubled up on the Arsenal defense.
- 31:10Speaker 1: I feel like one Arsenal defender is all right, Jeles,
- 31:12Speaker 1: But how are you feeling on the double up? Yeah?
- 31:14Speaker 4: And like I said, don't I would not go for
- 31:16Speaker 4: for two Arsenal defenders or one defender one keeper at
- 31:20Speaker 4: the stage of the season.
- 31:21Speaker 5: Really, although you can if you want to do it.
- 31:25Speaker 5: You can have Timber for example.
- 31:26Speaker 4: Because it's the cheapest really of the options that you have,
- 31:29Speaker 4: or Lewis Kelly if you want. But Timber is guaranteed
- 31:32Speaker 4: to play a right back I think pretty much. I'm
- 31:35Speaker 4: not guaranteed every single game because they would be the
- 31:37Speaker 4: Champions League, and I think Ben White and now is
- 31:39Speaker 4: back to full fitness, so you can see a little
- 31:41Speaker 4: bit of rotation maybe a right back, but Timber is
- 31:43Speaker 4: very solid. The thing with Gabrielle, even if he hasn't
- 31:47Speaker 4: scored on said pieces for a while an Arsenal overall,
- 31:49Speaker 4: apart from the Merino goal against Chelsea, they haven't been
- 31:52Speaker 4: maybe as lethal and said pieces that they were earlier
- 31:55Speaker 4: in the season. It's still there very much, and they
- 31:57Speaker 4: still get a lot of corners or White three kicks.
- 32:00Speaker 5: You can have Gabrielle.
- 32:01Speaker 4: If you're in love with William Saliba, like I am,
- 32:03Speaker 4: obviously go for William Saliba. He's the most handsome of
- 32:05Speaker 4: all those choices that we just mentioned too, and he's
- 32:07Speaker 4: from Paris, so there's nothing not to like about William
- 32:10Speaker 4: Saliba really, but I would not choose two of them, really,
- 32:13Speaker 4: I would go for just one of them.
- 32:14Speaker 1: There's one thing not to like the fact that his
- 32:16Speaker 1: teammate is two points above him in FBL, so you
- 32:18Speaker 1: should have gone for Gabrielle.
- 32:19Speaker 5: Really, he's not everything else said about Saliba.
- 32:26Speaker 1: Some who's the best in your unbiased opinion, who's the
- 32:28Speaker 1: best arsenal defender?
- 32:30Speaker 2: So I've got Timber right now, and I've enjoyed owning Timber.
- 32:33Speaker 2: To be fair, he's he's been a good own significantly
- 32:37Speaker 2: less than you need to pay for the two because obviously,
- 32:39Speaker 2: and I've had him for a long time now, so
- 32:42Speaker 2: he's five point six in the game.
- 32:43Speaker 3: But you got to pay like zero.
- 32:44Speaker 2: Point eight more for Gabrielle, and you've got to pay
- 32:47Speaker 2: what point six more to get Saliba, So I think
- 32:50Speaker 2: I think that comes into the conversation, and again is
- 32:52Speaker 2: a price point thing. If money is no object and
- 32:55Speaker 2: you can afford any of them, then I'd absolutely have
- 32:57Speaker 2: Gabrielle as my first choice because I think the attacking
- 32:59Speaker 2: threat that you get with him from set pieces is great.
- 33:02Speaker 2: He's also a bit of a bonus point magnet is Gabrielle,
- 33:04Speaker 2: so you often find that he'll pick up bonus points
- 33:07Speaker 2: when he plays well. So if money is no object,
- 33:10Speaker 2: I go for Gabrielle. I think I will probably move
- 33:13Speaker 2: off Timber on wild card simply because, as you're said,
- 33:17Speaker 2: we may get some rotation around that position. Whereas if
- 33:20Speaker 2: you've gone for a Gabrielle or a sleep but you
- 33:21Speaker 2: know that you're absolutely as solid as you can be
- 33:25Speaker 2: in terms of security of starts, so frustratingly, if you
- 33:31Speaker 2: can't afford the extra point too.
- 33:32Speaker 3: Then I do what Torce has just said, and I
- 33:34Speaker 3: hate that.
- 33:35Speaker 1: I havingk Sleepers like takes too much agreement on this
- 33:37Speaker 1: pod for my life horerendous.
- 33:42Speaker 3: Yeah, but Gabrielle, if you can afford.
- 33:43Speaker 1: Him, Okay, Well, we can't talk about Defenders without talking
- 33:46Speaker 1: about Crystal Palace. As if Sam needs any excuse she's
- 33:49Speaker 1: been desperate to bring.
- 33:50Speaker 3: The moon Offs back in. Do I even need to
- 33:52Speaker 3: ask if that's still the plan.
- 33:54Speaker 2: I haven't owned him yet, and honestly, you've You've been
- 33:56Speaker 2: waiting for this week to get him is like so
- 33:59Speaker 2: much like that, It's like an obsession, Like I'm actually
- 34:03Speaker 2: obsessed with Daniel Munau. Is like I just I need
- 34:06Speaker 2: him in my team as soon as possible, to the
- 34:08Speaker 2: point where last week I didn't bring in Melenkovich because
- 34:11Speaker 2: I wanted to get Muna's this week, which is actually
- 34:13Speaker 2: mad when.
- 34:14Speaker 1: You don't have you made the move already, or you
- 34:16Speaker 1: waiting for the police. Tell me you're kind of waiting
- 34:17Speaker 1: for the FA Cup as well. No, I haven't done anything. Yeah,
- 34:20Speaker 1: I'm waiting, waiting to see what happens.
- 34:21Speaker 2: But to be honest, it's one of those where if
- 34:23Speaker 2: he was going to rise in price, I probably would
- 34:25Speaker 2: just do it, because worst case scenario, if I get
- 34:27Speaker 2: loads of problems over international break, I just hit the
- 34:29Speaker 2: World Card button, and I'm hitting it like two days early,
- 34:32Speaker 2: so it's actually not the end of the world.
- 34:34Speaker 1: Like.
- 34:34Speaker 2: That's the one thing I think with these is that
- 34:36Speaker 2: I'm obviously watching for price changes, and if Muna's looks
- 34:40Speaker 2: like he's going to go up, then I'll just hit it.
- 34:42Speaker 2: But he is one hundred percent the first name in
- 34:45Speaker 2: my defensive line on World Card.
- 34:48Speaker 4: Just to remind everybody about Muna is he would play
- 34:50Speaker 4: with Columbia obviously, like all the South American So just
- 34:53Speaker 4: keep it. Actually, we hope that it doesn't nothing happens
- 34:57Speaker 4: to him that you think, yeah, you might right and.
- 35:01Speaker 5: Quit football forever.
- 35:02Speaker 4: So yeah, let's hope that him and all the sati matter.
- 35:05Speaker 4: The international players, by the way, who are with the.
- 35:06Speaker 5: National team come back to us healthy and safe.
- 35:09Speaker 3: Do you share Sam's love for Palace?
- 35:11Speaker 1: You're going to be bringing in a Palace defender Jules
- 35:13Speaker 1: or you've got Henderson, But it sounds.
- 35:15Speaker 4: Like you can get Yeah, I might get rid of him.
- 35:17Speaker 4: I think Unos is the one really more than get.
- 35:18Speaker 4: He is quite high on that defensive defender's list as well,
- 35:23Speaker 4: but I think who knows is because he's so attacking
- 35:25Speaker 4: and because they even if they have top fixtures. We
- 35:29Speaker 4: said that, so it might not be completely easy. You
- 35:32Speaker 4: might not be completely convinced either. You might not share
- 35:35Speaker 4: the love that Sam shares for Muno's obviously, but I
- 35:38Speaker 4: think if there's why, which is there for exactly, what
- 35:41Speaker 4: would you not all the tattoos and everything? You know?
- 35:46Speaker 1: Okay, then so we we're loving Crystal Palace. I'm particularly
- 35:49Speaker 1: loving Daniel Munos and we're praying that he comes back
- 35:51Speaker 1: from international break not injured.
- 35:54Speaker 3: Another player that I mentioned last week, I said we
- 35:55Speaker 3: needed to talk about films. Anthony Robinson.
- 35:57Speaker 1: He heard me because he finally sorted himself fouts in
- 36:01Speaker 1: blank game week twenty nine, just when we needed he too.
- 36:03Speaker 1: But I mentioned Fulham's fixtures before their bottom of the
- 36:06Speaker 1: fixture tick and they've got Arsenal, Liverpool born with in
- 36:08Speaker 1: Chelsea in the next four weeks, and of course they
- 36:10Speaker 1: could blank in game week thirty four.
- 36:12Speaker 2: Is this the time to sell some Yeah, sadly it is,
- 36:16Speaker 2: I think, like, yeah, I mean he returned, didn't he
- 36:19Speaker 2: for us nicely in game week twenty nine against my team?
- 36:22Speaker 3: Which always seems to.
- 36:23Speaker 2: Happen in a blank game week. What is it we
- 36:24Speaker 2: Spurs and Fulham in blank game weeks?
- 36:26Speaker 3: Trying to help your a field team out. They can't.
- 36:29Speaker 3: They want to.
- 36:29Speaker 1: They want to help your a field team out, but
- 36:31Speaker 1: not help your actual like say, your mental health, but
- 36:35Speaker 1: probably does affect your mental health so massively.
- 36:39Speaker 2: He I think biganels like right, Sam really needs some
- 36:41Speaker 2: FPR points this week, so we'll let her have a
- 36:43Speaker 2: Robinson clean sheet.
- 36:44Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 36:44Speaker 2: I think when you look at the fixtures like Arsenal
- 36:47Speaker 2: and Liverpool in the next two does not look great,
- 36:50Speaker 2: does it? And then even after that Bournemouth Chelsea, it's
- 36:52Speaker 2: not really until you get to Southampton, but then it's
- 36:55Speaker 2: Villa and it's Everton, Brentford Man City like that is
- 36:58Speaker 2: a horrible end to the season and when it comes
- 37:00Speaker 2: to potential for clean sheets anyway, And whilst Robinson does
- 37:04Speaker 2: have the attacking threat, like we've not talked yet about
- 37:06Speaker 2: Kirkcas we've waxally record back moon or so I won't
- 37:09Speaker 2: go back there again. But those are also players that
- 37:12Speaker 2: have got really good attacking threat but also have more
- 37:15Speaker 2: likelihood of a clean sheet.
- 37:16Speaker 3: And I think that's the thing, isn't it.
- 37:17Speaker 2: You could hold Robinson because he's got the attacking potential
- 37:20Speaker 2: and we know that over the course of the season,
- 37:22Speaker 2: but realistically, between now and game week thirty eight, you
- 37:26Speaker 2: want to be investing in players that have the potential
- 37:28Speaker 2: for a massive double digit hull and a clean sheet
- 37:30Speaker 2: and an attacking return is the best way to get
- 37:32Speaker 2: that out of your defenders. So that's why I'd lose Robinson.
- 37:36Speaker 2: It will be a sad farewell when I said him
- 37:38Speaker 2: on Wildcock because he has been a fantastic owning FBR
- 37:41Speaker 2: this season, but the time is now, sadly agree George.
- 37:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I think so, And again there are so many
- 37:49Speaker 4: really good options. We haven't talked about Livramento, for example,
- 37:51Speaker 4: before we talked about Newcastle and being at the top
- 37:53Speaker 4: of the ticker for Pope in gold. But if you
- 37:56Speaker 4: don't want to go for Pope and now looking for
- 37:58Speaker 4: you guys, a defender live our mental four point five
- 38:00Speaker 4: million is in great form. He will play okay, he
- 38:02Speaker 4: plays on the left when he's right footed and right
- 38:04Speaker 4: back he's probably is a better position for him, but
- 38:07Speaker 4: he still could have He could do a very good
- 38:09Speaker 4: job there and I suspect he would be there until
- 38:12Speaker 4: the end of the season too, So he's guaranteed to
- 38:14Speaker 4: start pretty much every time. And I think considering the
- 38:17Speaker 4: fixture that New Cats will have going forwards, you know,
- 38:21Speaker 4: I think, I think if I mentor at that price
- 38:22Speaker 4: four point five million, it's really really cheap, it's potentially
- 38:25Speaker 4: a good pick. So again it depends how much your
- 38:28Speaker 4: budget is. But there's also yeah, they are there are
- 38:31Speaker 4: other options that are cheaper than Anthony Robinson.
- 38:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:34Speaker 1: It's really tough as well, isn't it balancing out as
- 38:36Speaker 1: we always say, who's high on the fixture ticker and
- 38:39Speaker 1: the form as well. Because I'm looking at the fixture
- 38:40Speaker 1: ticker now Manchester City are up there. Gvardio is the
- 38:44Speaker 1: only one I'd potentially look at, but he feels very expensive, Sam,
- 38:48Speaker 1: really he is.
- 38:49Speaker 2: I mean he's got five goals this season's the highest
- 38:51Speaker 2: scoring defender in the league for goals, but he's only
- 38:55Speaker 2: got seven clean sheet So when you count the number
- 38:58Speaker 2: of sos I counted night when I was prepping for this,
- 39:01Speaker 2: there is only there's nineteen more clean sheets for defenders
- 39:04Speaker 2: across the league this season. Nineteen defenders with more clean sheet.
- 39:07Speaker 2: So when you're looking at that level of money to
- 39:10Speaker 2: spend on cavardial like it feels, in my opinion, it
- 39:14Speaker 2: feels like a lot. Now all right, you look at
- 39:15Speaker 2: the fixtures and game and week thirty is perfect, isn't it.
- 39:18Speaker 2: So we've got Lester who just aren't scoring any goals
- 39:20Speaker 2: at the moment, so you'd expect there to be the
- 39:22Speaker 2: potential for a clean sheet there. But then when you
- 39:24Speaker 2: look at the fixtures that follow, although most of them
- 39:26Speaker 2: are nicely colored on the ticker because Manchester City are
- 39:30Speaker 2: usually so good, but it's Manchester United who you could
- 39:33Speaker 2: definitely see Bruno getting something in that one Crystal Palace
- 39:36Speaker 2: who regularly are scoring goals at the moment. Everton, who
- 39:39Speaker 2: you know, okay and attack they aren't are great, but
- 39:41Speaker 2: then Villa, it's only really those last couple of weeks,
- 39:44Speaker 2: the Wolves, Southampton and then Fulham maybe in thirty eight,
- 39:47Speaker 2: but then there's Born within thirty seven, Like, realistically, how
- 39:50Speaker 2: many clean sheets do we think that there is for
- 39:51Speaker 2: cavardiole in that time? And he's got five goals this season,
- 39:54Speaker 2: but over the course of the season that's not a
- 39:56Speaker 2: huge amount. So I'm going to be avoiding the man's defense.
- 40:01Speaker 2: I might we'll talk about this next week, but I
- 40:03Speaker 2: might even avoid Manchester City all together, even though they're
- 40:06Speaker 2: second on the fixture ticker, which feels ridiculous.
- 40:08Speaker 1: I really wanted to ask Jules another question then, but
- 40:10Speaker 1: that is just the perfect mic drop. Let's end the
- 40:12Speaker 1: pod monument. That's a nice bold statement to leave it on.
- 40:16Speaker 1: We should also, though I can't end the pod because
- 40:18Speaker 1: I do want to hear your best five defenders. Overall,
- 40:21Speaker 1: let's bear in mind that people don't have one hundred
- 40:23Speaker 1: and fifty million pounds to play with, a ridiculous Some
- 40:25Speaker 1: people who've been really clever with their team value might
- 40:27Speaker 1: have a little bit more than others, but let's try
- 40:29Speaker 1: and help out those that don't have a high team
- 40:31Speaker 1: value at this point of the season, when you're suggesting them, gone, Jewels,
- 40:34Speaker 1: who would you go with?
- 40:36Speaker 4: So we've got probably for Saliba obviously my brother, one
- 40:40Speaker 4: of the Forest defenders. So again depending on your on
- 40:43Speaker 4: your budget, Williams or Melenkovich, probably I go for Carecase,
- 40:48Speaker 4: I go for Liveramento, and the fifth one, I'm not
- 40:52Speaker 4: too sure.
- 40:53Speaker 5: Maybe maybe Munaise, It's not too far off.
- 40:55Speaker 3: My No, I'm very upset by that.
- 41:01Speaker 2: Right well, Mike Bruno's was my first picks.
- 41:08Speaker 3: Juels.
- 41:08Speaker 2: If I could have five for him, I absolutely would
- 41:12Speaker 2: stray five. It's really for a defender, doesn't he Ever,
- 41:16Speaker 2: there's no red flags either. He's perfect. So Daniel Muhold's
- 41:21Speaker 2: first pick, and then I like Jewels. I'm torn on
- 41:23Speaker 2: the Williams Milenkovich thing. It would literally come down to
- 41:26Speaker 2: when creating the team, do I have the budget. If
- 41:28Speaker 2: I've got the budget, I'd go for Melenkovich.
- 41:29Speaker 3: If I don't, I go for Williams.
- 41:31Speaker 2: I'd have Gabriel Ward have Kerkez the fifth one. Again,
- 41:34Speaker 2: I'm finding a struggle because I don't want to double
- 41:38Speaker 2: up on the Newcast of Defense, because I think there's
- 41:42Speaker 2: there's better options elsewhere, particularly if I've got Pope between
- 41:45Speaker 2: the sticks, which is my plan. Connor Bradley. We didn't
- 41:48Speaker 2: mention he's the one player from Liverpool that if he's
- 41:51Speaker 2: fitting available and that's another benefit of waiting until thirty
- 41:54Speaker 2: one for this is that you might get some more
- 41:55Speaker 2: information if he's back with Trent out, maybe he's an option,
- 41:59Speaker 2: but it would just come to be honest, the fifth
- 42:01Speaker 2: defender is literally just going to be who has got
- 42:04Speaker 2: a good fixture in the week or on a bench boost,
- 42:05Speaker 2: because otherwise they're going to sit on the bench. So
- 42:07Speaker 2: it's going to be a nice cheap option with a
- 42:09Speaker 2: decent fixture in bench boos week. So probably in thirty
- 42:12Speaker 2: two or thirty three. Okay, that is where we like
- 42:15Speaker 2: to leave it this time.
- 42:16Speaker 1: Even though I really wanted that manager's city line to
- 42:17Speaker 1: be where we ended the pod, I didn't need to
- 42:19Speaker 1: round off the chat by finding out who your defenders were.
- 42:21Speaker 1: Hopefully everyone listening to that has found it really useful
- 42:24Speaker 1: because there's so many people. If you're not wildcarding now,
- 42:26Speaker 1: you're likely to be wildcarding in the next few weeks,
- 42:29Speaker 1: so maybe you can even go back and listen to
- 42:30Speaker 1: this pod nearer the time. Maybe by then everything that
- 42:33Speaker 1: we'll said will be irrelevant. Now in our luck, well
- 42:35Speaker 1: half of them, we'll get injured or something. But yeah,
- 42:37Speaker 1: thank you, Jaeles, thank you very much. Sam. We'll be
- 42:39Speaker 1: back again at the same time, same place, well remotely
- 42:43Speaker 1: next Thursday, with a kind of look ahead I guess
- 42:45Speaker 1: to the FA Cup in terms of what might have changed,
- 42:47Speaker 1: and we'll be that little bit closer to the deadline
- 42:50Speaker 1: four game week thirty, which is of course in the
- 42:52Speaker 1: midweek following, so it's like two weeks almost from now.
- 42:54Speaker 1: A long time ago with that FPL, but hopefully we
- 42:57Speaker 1: can be here to fill your FPL fixed.
- 42:59Speaker 3: Thanks as always listening. What'll see next week, guys.
- 43:03Speaker 1: H m hmm
