- 0:02Speaker 1: It's here.
- 0:03Speaker 2: It's happening, happy Opening Day after Opening Night, which we'll
- 0:10Speaker 2: get into. We are here, we are watching baseball today.
- 0:15Speaker 2: There's actually only one early game that starts, and I
- 0:18Speaker 2: think about fifteen minutes or so, AJ and me were
- 0:21Speaker 2: scrambling to figure out where it was. It's going to
- 0:24Speaker 2: be a fun game this year to figure out where
- 0:25Speaker 2: games are.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Yeah, no one knows. No one knows. No local stations
- 0:30Speaker 3: know that. I guess the locals just found out yesterday
- 0:31Speaker 3: where most of their games are.
- 0:33Speaker 1: But yeah, they just announced it this morning for fans.
- 0:35Speaker 3: I mean, it's fine. Listen, I get it. It's about money.
- 0:37Speaker 3: You got to grow out what you can. But I
- 0:40Speaker 3: still I'm a big Opening day day guy.
- 0:43Speaker 4: Not at night.
- 0:44Speaker 3: I'm just not a I'm not. I said it the
- 0:47Speaker 3: other day. I just wish that they would go back
- 0:49Speaker 3: to it's opening day.
- 0:51Speaker 4: They should.
- 0:51Speaker 3: You know, kids are excited, they get out of school,
- 0:53Speaker 3: they get to go watch their team whatever, or you know,
- 0:56Speaker 3: the teacher turns it on or they're trying to watch
- 0:58Speaker 3: it on their phone.
- 0:59Speaker 4: Whatever. But I'm just a big Opening day guy daytime.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Yes, Okay, are you okay with today having some games
- 1:07Speaker 2: spread out?
- 1:08Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:09Speaker 3: With that okay, but they should be on the same day,
- 1:12Speaker 3: and I get whether or not I understand, fine, but yeah,
- 1:15Speaker 3: I just wish they were all on most of them
- 1:17Speaker 3: because some teams fill played on tomorrow and then some
- 1:19Speaker 3: teams start today, and it's just like, Wow, there's a lot.
- 1:23Speaker 2: There's a lot to keep up with, and I've even
- 1:25Speaker 2: reached a point where it is going to be a
- 1:27Speaker 2: fun game to find where, for example, the Yankees are
- 1:30Speaker 2: playing on a daily basis. There are double digit options,
- 1:34Speaker 2: but we have one new option for you if you're
- 1:38Speaker 2: a Twins fan. So let's announce that because that show
- 1:41Speaker 2: is ready to go in up there for the world.
- 1:43Speaker 1: To consume Twin Cities territory.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Zach Pierce and Dan Hayes will run Point as the
- 1:51Speaker 2: main two hosts, and Tyler Duffy also will be a
- 1:54Speaker 2: part of the mix part of the FT Network.
- 1:58Speaker 1: We're excited about it. There it is. Do you like
- 2:02Speaker 1: the skyline? I always like to get your logo take.
- 2:05Speaker 4: I like Minnesota, always have.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Didn't you play there?
- 2:09Speaker 4: I did for a while. He did it.
- 2:12Speaker 2: They're going to have some stuff to talk about, stuff
- 2:14Speaker 2: to talk about. Yeah, what do you think Kratz?
- 2:19Speaker 5: Great logo? The logo team just killed it every single time.
- 2:22Speaker 5: They even had the Curse of Twins City. Correct, Yeah,
- 2:26Speaker 5: it's legit. I just need my nineteen eighty seven Frank
- 2:29Speaker 5: Viola jersey, and so when he shows up on the show,
- 2:33Speaker 5: the show will be complete.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Boom, there you go, and we will show you a
- 2:37Speaker 2: clip from that show a little bit later on. Let's
- 2:40Speaker 2: get to some news to start charge about. Uh oh,
- 2:47Speaker 2: you hate the opening day I el stints Jackson Cheerio
- 2:52Speaker 2: fractured left hand, so he hurt his hand during an
- 2:56Speaker 2: exhibition game when his team was prepping for the World
- 3:00Speaker 2: Baseball Classic.
- 3:01Speaker 1: I think he missed.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Two games at the time and then played in the
- 3:03Speaker 2: rest of the Classic, and then this news pops up
- 3:06Speaker 2: on Opening Days. So I don't know every single detail,
- 3:10Speaker 2: but clearly it did not heal.
- 3:13Speaker 3: Yeah, just bad news. I mean, just added to the
- 3:16Speaker 3: list of Brewer things. They always seem to get through.
- 3:18Speaker 3: It material going down. There's a big blow for them,
- 3:22Speaker 3: but the Brewers find a way. They called up they
- 3:25Speaker 3: called up someone uh jeezu, I'm sorry I went blank,
- 3:30Speaker 3: but I know they called up someone I had heard of.
- 3:31Speaker 3: So it wasn't like they called up some guy that
- 3:33Speaker 3: hadn't have a little bit of experience Blake Perkins, who
- 3:37Speaker 3: has done some nice things. Yeah, so I think that, yeah,
- 3:40Speaker 3: this is fine. It hurts, But for the Brewers, is
- 3:43Speaker 3: going to come down to their pitching. Can they pitch
- 3:45Speaker 3: good enough without losing Freddy will Big, Will Woodruf be
- 3:49Speaker 3: good enough? I mean, it's just to me, it's about
- 3:51Speaker 3: their pitching. This is a big blow, yes, but the
- 3:54Speaker 3: Brewers always seemed to find a way.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Perkins gives you a nice speed defense combo. Jake Powers
- 3:59Speaker 2: is going to get the start in Churio's place today.
- 4:03Speaker 2: It sounds like two to four weeks was the initial
- 4:07Speaker 2: initial prognosis. I would tend to think with that kind
- 4:11Speaker 2: of injury in that age player Kratz, it's going to
- 4:14Speaker 2: be more towards the.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Four and so we'll see him in mid to late April.
- 4:20Speaker 5: I would say the other way, I would say, yes,
- 4:22Speaker 5: I get it, you don't want to rush it. But
- 4:24Speaker 5: he's twenty two years old, like some people aren't even
- 4:27Speaker 5: graduating college right now, twenty two years old. So I
- 4:30Speaker 5: think he's going to heal pretty quick. I think they
- 4:33Speaker 5: know they can't miss many games without him, because Glenn
- 4:37Speaker 5: Perkins can do some nice things, but you got I
- 4:41Speaker 5: mean Blake Perkins, not Glenn Perkins. Blake Perkins can do
- 4:43Speaker 5: some nice things, but nobody's gonna Obviously, the ceiling is
- 4:47Speaker 5: where you need Jackson Churio to get to, and he
- 4:49Speaker 5: hasn't quite reached that yet, but he adds an electric
- 4:53Speaker 5: piece to that lineup that they desperately need.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Kratz, your former teammate, Christian Yelich wants to play the
- 4:59Speaker 2: outBut field, and it sounds like they're going to give
- 5:01Speaker 2: him that opportunity with this news.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Are we good with that?
- 5:05Speaker 2: He's had what what's been the primary issue to back
- 5:08Speaker 2: for him?
- 5:09Speaker 6: The back? Was it all stemmed? Yeah? He was.
- 5:12Speaker 5: He's been dealing with his back for a shoot back
- 5:14Speaker 5: when I was playing with him. You know, I think
- 5:16Speaker 5: it's just something that the way he the way he
- 5:19Speaker 5: spins and rotates. I think it's something that he's had
- 5:22Speaker 5: to deal with. I think he's got that cleared up.
- 5:24Speaker 5: But after that kneecap injury that you know, cost him
- 5:27Speaker 5: his second MVP, I think it's something that he slowly
- 5:30Speaker 5: worked back. But I think he's really gotten to the
- 5:33Speaker 5: point where he's healthy. How much do you want him
- 5:35Speaker 5: to play in the outfield. He's going to be fine
- 5:37Speaker 5: out there. It's about him being on his feet that
- 5:39Speaker 5: whole time. Does that affect his back, because if it does,
- 5:42Speaker 5: then you got to have somebody else out there, because
- 5:44Speaker 5: he'll play a fine outfield. He does a great job
- 5:47Speaker 5: of keeping the ball in front. He doesn't throw, he
- 5:49Speaker 5: doesn't make bad throws. He doesn't have like the most
- 5:52Speaker 5: tremendous arm, So he'll be serviceable out there.
- 5:55Speaker 6: But for a whole one sixty two Nah.
- 6:00Speaker 2: A baseball season is finally here, and there's nothing like
- 6:03Speaker 2: listening to the sweet sounds of the game while you're
- 6:05Speaker 2: at home, enjoying some home cooking, whipping up a beautiful.

- 6:33Speaker 2: and press guests.

- 7:00Speaker 2: Capping this off with the overall point on the Brewers,
- 7:03Speaker 2: I'm not too concerned. They didn't really turn it on
- 7:05Speaker 2: last year until the last two three months.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Well, the first four games it got smashed by the Yankees.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Remember the Torpedo Bats.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Were like, oh, the Brewers, they've lost it. No, they
- 7:19Speaker 2: had the most wins in baseball last year, so yeah,
- 7:22Speaker 2: it sucks to lose.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Cher Area is one of your better bats.
- 7:25Speaker 2: I'm not too concerned about it, especially, like you said,
- 7:28Speaker 2: on the offensive side of things, they should be a
- 7:31Speaker 2: pretty solid offense with their own unique flavor. It's going
- 7:33Speaker 2: to be the same flavor offense. They keep acquiring similar types,
- 7:37Speaker 2: right you plug in a David Hamilton, a Jet Williams,
- 7:41Speaker 2: all these kind of guys that they keep acquiring to
- 7:44Speaker 2: be in their system and the organization. Minor leagues are
- 7:46Speaker 2: major leagues. No, Kratz, you don't think so.
- 7:48Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I get it. Durbin and Collins like
- 7:52Speaker 5: they had success last year. Were they elite players? No,
- 7:55Speaker 5: they weren't elite players. But now you're plugging in guys
- 7:58Speaker 5: that you're like, I hope we have success Andrew Vaughn
- 8:02Speaker 5: thing worked out, Like you can't just constantly keep hitting
- 8:06Speaker 5: on these guys. It's like, oh, we're going to replace
- 8:08Speaker 5: it with the next hopefully the guy works out type
- 8:11Speaker 5: of player. And when you lose a cheerio, I think
- 8:13Speaker 5: that I'm more concerned about it than I think you are.
- 8:16Speaker 6: Scott. Okay.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Are they plugging a player into a system or they're
- 8:21Speaker 2: finding a player that they think they can tap into
- 8:23Speaker 2: more or I guess.
- 8:24Speaker 3: For me, it's more they try to find players that
- 8:26Speaker 3: they can tap into. That is Murph's style that he
- 8:28Speaker 3: likes around that, Like the lefty pitcher is.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Harrison, Kyle Harrison, the guy.
- 8:35Speaker 3: Who is a breakout Kennedy for a lot of people
- 8:37Speaker 3: because he's going to get thrown into the Brewers pitching
- 8:41Speaker 3: lab and the way they do things there. So I
- 8:42Speaker 3: think they more try to find people that fit into
- 8:45Speaker 3: their system than going out and finding and Murph does
- 8:48Speaker 3: a good job of also adjusting to people. But I
- 8:50Speaker 3: think they do a good job of finding people that
- 8:52Speaker 3: they like that have certain skill sets that work together.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Speeding, yes, speeding defense. And Kratz doesn't have to make
- 9:01Speaker 2: in the playoffs this year. Yep, I said it with
- 9:05Speaker 2: my chest. Yep, you did, and you might be right.
- 9:08Speaker 2: We'll see. Cubs definitely should be better, Pirate should be better.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Are they going to be great? I don't think so.
- 9:13Speaker 2: But are they going to be better?
- 9:14Speaker 1: Yes?
- 9:15Speaker 2: Red should be similar so last year, so Cardinal should
- 9:19Speaker 2: be worse. So we'll see. All right, let's move on
- 9:24Speaker 2: to the next topic. Last night's game, it was just
- 9:28Speaker 2: one game, but the Yankee smacked the Giants, so first
- 9:31Speaker 2: off game thoughts.
- 9:34Speaker 3: It was a game logan web, they jumped on logan
- 9:36Speaker 3: web in the second ending. Game was over in the
- 9:38Speaker 3: second ending when they went up five to nothing. Max
- 9:39Speaker 3: feed was great. Uh, a little more speed, a little
- 9:44Speaker 3: more aggressiveness from the Yankees than what we had seen
- 9:46Speaker 3: last year.
- 9:47Speaker 4: Cover Euro when you went first to third in the
- 9:49Speaker 4: leftfielder's face was fun. Stan look good?
- 9:52Speaker 1: Uh?
- 9:53Speaker 4: Free you pitched well.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Obviously everyone's overreacting about Judge going over five with four punches.
- 9:57Speaker 4: It happens. I mean I did.
- 10:00Speaker 3: I did Barstool this morning, wake up Barstool and Fox
- 10:02Speaker 3: and they one of the guys asked me if Aaron
- 10:05Speaker 3: Judge was beginning to be washed, and he had Phillies
- 10:08Speaker 3: Jersey on, so I told him to clown question.
- 10:11Speaker 4: It's one game, I.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Guarantee, he said, Aaron Judge washed.
- 10:13Speaker 6: It's like, is he.
- 10:14Speaker 3: Starting to get washed after the WBC and his four
- 10:16Speaker 3: strikeout game?
- 10:17Speaker 4: And I'm like, dude, stop like please.
- 10:21Speaker 3: But no, I thought it was It was a fine.
- 10:23Speaker 3: It was a baseball game. You never know what's gonna have.
- 10:24Speaker 3: Of course, everyone wanted a three to two nail bier
- 10:26Speaker 3: that comes on the last thing he did it. Yankees
- 10:28Speaker 3: jumped them, they jumped them early. It was fine, it
- 10:31Speaker 3: was It was a nice intro to the season.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Which is rare for Logan web.
- 10:35Speaker 4: Yeah, but he still gives them five innings. It's amazing.
- 10:38Speaker 4: It's amazing.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Right after the what was it the second, then the
- 10:42Speaker 2: third and the fourth went went very nicely. Yeah, and
- 10:45Speaker 2: then in the fit there were a few you know,
- 10:46Speaker 2: hard contact knocks to start the inning. But what did
- 10:49Speaker 2: you think, Kratz of the Yankee showing up with some
- 10:53Speaker 2: offense and the Giants showing up with what three hits?
- 10:58Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean the whole note hit thing.
- 10:59Speaker 5: That's probably concerning just because you see the guys that
- 11:05Speaker 5: are in the lineup and you're like, Lee's going to
- 11:07Speaker 5: be your fifth hitter, and a lineup that they need
- 11:11Speaker 5: to make contact, and they did that last night. So
- 11:14Speaker 5: I guess that's a positive out of the fact that
- 11:17Speaker 5: they still only had three hits, you know, if I'm
- 11:18Speaker 5: trying to make something positive out of it. But to me,
- 11:21Speaker 5: the story was the fact that the Yankees did it
- 11:22Speaker 5: without needing to beat the ball out of the stadium,
- 11:27Speaker 5: like they did it by putting the ball in play.
- 11:30Speaker 6: How do you do that against logan web? You do
- 11:32Speaker 6: it early.
- 11:33Speaker 5: You jump them early, because then you if you don't,
- 11:36Speaker 5: you know, then that sinker gets a little bit more
- 11:38Speaker 5: sync to it. Then that four steamer changes your eye
- 11:41Speaker 5: level and you never want to face that change up.
- 11:43Speaker 5: So I think they did a good job of just
- 11:45Speaker 5: jumping them early, but hitting as a lineup, and then
- 11:50Speaker 5: Max Free. You give Max Free to lead. He's one
- 11:52Speaker 5: of the better pitchers in the game at pitching with
- 11:55Speaker 5: the lead. And I say that because I think some
- 11:58Speaker 5: guys just have one route to a successful game, and
- 12:01Speaker 5: that is strike one. Go for the strikeout, Go for
- 12:06Speaker 5: the strikeout, go for the strikeout. And I think Max
- 12:07Speaker 5: Freed does a really good job once he gets a lead,
- 12:10Speaker 5: landing pitches that he's like, hey, you know what if
- 12:13Speaker 5: you hit this ball hard at worst as a double,
- 12:16Speaker 5: and then he's ahead and account and he's able to
- 12:18Speaker 5: go deeper into games and give you quality innings. And
- 12:20Speaker 5: so Max Freed off to another off to a good start.
- 12:24Speaker 5: Can he get twenty wins this year?
- 12:28Speaker 1: Yeah, if he stays on there.
- 12:29Speaker 4: But we did have only one ABS right last night.
- 12:33Speaker 4: I don't know. I turned it off and it was seven.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Nothing, I believe, just the one from one.
- 12:37Speaker 4: And what was the outcome, I don't even know because
- 12:38Speaker 4: I didn't see it.
- 12:39Speaker 1: But I was.
- 12:39Speaker 4: I know it was cayby Erra, but it was in
- 12:42Speaker 4: the middle of it.
- 12:44Speaker 3: People that don't like the manager interviews, fine, but they're
- 12:47Speaker 3: gonna happen, and it just was weird. Normally, I know
- 12:49Speaker 3: on Fox when we do them, we split the screen
- 12:51Speaker 3: so you can still see what's happening? And also I
- 12:53Speaker 3: know when we have Ken and uh Berducci doing the interviews,
- 12:57Speaker 3: they'll stop and say, hey, hold on, we need to
- 12:59Speaker 3: go to this. They'll stop the guy, which they I mean,
- 13:01Speaker 3: there's not I'm knock on Lauren at all.
- 13:03Speaker 6: Orange Now.
- 13:04Speaker 1: It's tricky, but it was.
- 13:05Speaker 3: It's a tricky thing. So people that were upset, I
- 13:07Speaker 3: get it. I just thought they should have split screen
- 13:09Speaker 3: instead of and stopped and be like, hey, hold on,
- 13:11Speaker 3: and then they had the manager on. They could have
- 13:13Speaker 3: said what do you think of the abs right then
- 13:15Speaker 3: and there. Yeah, that was the only thing, Like they
- 13:17Speaker 3: just didn't show it.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a tough spot there. There were some
- 13:20Speaker 2: technical issues.
- 13:21Speaker 4: You might getting into all that because it was their
- 13:23Speaker 4: first broadcast.
- 13:23Speaker 6: Yeah, they have.
- 13:24Speaker 3: Room to grow. Fine exactly, but that was the one
- 13:26Speaker 3: thing that most people are complaining about.
- 13:28Speaker 4: I get it.
- 13:28Speaker 3: It was the first one ever. Like you could stop
- 13:30Speaker 3: a manager interview in the middle and say, hey, this
- 13:32Speaker 3: is the first one of this ever.
- 13:34Speaker 4: Let's show it. H That's fine. It didn't happen, but fine.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Yep, I'm with you.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Paul Schemes did not make it out of the first
- 13:41Speaker 2: inning in Queens opening day, thirty seven pitches. I mean,
- 13:45Speaker 2: you can't let him go much past that. Anyway. Mett's
- 13:49Speaker 2: got to him a little bit, O'Neil Cruz got to
- 13:52Speaker 2: him a little bit twice.
- 13:57Speaker 4: Baseball is hard. It happened, and I don't even need
- 14:01Speaker 4: to I don't know.
- 14:02Speaker 3: There was a couple of wins blowing when went over
- 14:04Speaker 3: said he lost one in the sun.
- 14:08Speaker 4: Stuff happens.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Man, Baseball's hard. But does that happen to every center fielder?
- 14:12Speaker 3: Like where sure every centerfielder has lost the ball in
- 14:13Speaker 3: the sun. He should ask Kevin Blar he's lost one
- 14:15Speaker 3: in the sun.
- 14:15Speaker 4: I'm sure.
- 14:16Speaker 3: Darren urstaid one time we went to Anaheim and he said,
- 14:21Speaker 3: I've never lost the ball in the twilight, And that
- 14:23Speaker 3: night first game centerfield.
- 14:24Speaker 4: He lost the ball in the twilight. So, I mean,
- 14:25Speaker 4: stuff happens.
- 14:27Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 14:28Speaker 4: Well, worried about skiing skeins will be fine.
- 14:32Speaker 5: Yeah it's not. But here's here's my question. For a
- 14:35Speaker 5: team like the Pirates, what are they build on? Yes,
- 14:38Speaker 5: they added offense, but they're built on pitching. Their defense
- 14:41Speaker 5: actually wasn't that bad. I think it was the sixth
- 14:43Speaker 5: best defense in the game last year, six or eight
- 14:46Speaker 5: somewhere in there. But if you have guys that can
- 14:51Speaker 5: hit playing positions that maybe they normally don't play. O'Neill Kruz,
- 14:56Speaker 5: I think is still learning the position. Last year was
- 15:00Speaker 5: his first year where he got thrust out there. He
- 15:02Speaker 5: did okay, But are you downgrading your defense and upgrading
- 15:09Speaker 5: your offense enough to make the to make to make
- 15:14Speaker 5: up the difference?
- 15:16Speaker 2: Hey, with Sea Keek, we're looking ahead at games. So
- 15:18Speaker 2: let's look at the weekend. Let's start with Friday. What
- 15:22Speaker 2: else do we have? Cam Schlittler is making his season debut.
- 15:26Speaker 2: We'll see if Luis Severino is the usual dude on
- 15:29Speaker 2: the road versus at home. Kevin Gossman pitching in that
- 15:31Speaker 2: game for Toronto, Chris Sale will pitch for Atlanta. Sandy
- 15:36Speaker 2: al Contra on the mound for the Marlins against the Rockies.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Atlanta, by the way.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Is playing the the Royals on the weekend.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Here that includes what's your game? Do you know who's pitching?
- 15:51Speaker 4: Oh?
- 15:52Speaker 2: No, they've started to lay him out.
- 15:59Speaker 6: Are good?
- 16:00Speaker 5: The matchups are good because it's all the best starting
- 16:03Speaker 5: pitchers going against each other.
- 16:04Speaker 6: But like the team.
- 16:06Speaker 5: Matchups, Pirates Mets, not a lot of fight in you know,
- 16:10Speaker 5: not like ooh, you know we're really banging heads here,
- 16:12Speaker 5: Twins Orioles, White Sox, Brewers. It just feels like I
- 16:17Speaker 5: wanted to look down the list and go, man, I'm
- 16:20Speaker 5: seeing all these all these number ones on the mound,
- 16:23Speaker 5: and I'm like Red Sox, Reds, like what Rangers, Phillies,
- 16:29Speaker 5: they have a long history of what opening days like.
- 16:32Speaker 5: It just feels like a weird, weird mishmash of teams.
- 16:37Speaker 1: I agree, some make sense, some don't.
- 16:38Speaker 2: By the way, AJ's game on Saturday is Waka against
- 16:41Speaker 2: Ronaldo Lopez.
- 16:42Speaker 4: Yeah it'd be good. Yeah, two good good names. Its
- 16:46Speaker 4: teammate Ronaldo.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Yea was he didn't really pitched last year.
- 16:50Speaker 3: No, but they said his villa was down the spring,
- 16:52Speaker 3: So we'll see. We'll find out together. But I can't
- 16:56Speaker 3: wait to go to Atlanta. It's gonna be fun see Vinnie,
- 16:59Speaker 3: see Jack, see a bunch of the Royals, and then
- 17:01Speaker 3: see a bunch of brave people that I know from
- 17:04Speaker 3: from a long time ago.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Code for you if you want to go to any
- 17:07Speaker 2: of those games that we're talking about, Territory one zero
- 17:11Speaker 2: ten percent off tickets at se Geek and you can
- 17:15Speaker 2: make sure you click the link in the description of
- 17:17Speaker 2: this episode to download the app and have the code
- 17:19Speaker 2: automatically added to your account so that you can use
- 17:22Speaker 2: it later. You know how it works with Sea Geeke.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Green means good, red means it's not their favorite offer,
- 17:29Speaker 2: So look for the best values. They help you out
- 17:32Speaker 2: with that.
- 17:34Speaker 1: What do you guys think? Uh? Offense, defense balance?
- 17:41Speaker 3: I mean O'Neil Cruz was tought by one of the
- 17:42Speaker 3: best guys of all time this offseason, so he.
- 17:46Speaker 6: Cracked the code. Crack the code.
- 17:50Speaker 3: But listen, I mean O'Neil Cruz wasn't great at shortstop.
- 17:54Speaker 3: He definitely hasn't been great at center field. So I
- 17:56Speaker 3: guess his offense the piratesy can make up for the defense.
- 17:59Speaker 3: But where else do you put them? Where else do
- 18:02Speaker 3: you put If you don't put O'Neil Cruzin centerfield, where
- 18:04Speaker 3: do you put them corner? Okay, but you have Reynolds
- 18:08Speaker 3: and Ryan O'Hearn, So then who do you put center?
- 18:12Speaker 5: I mean, that's that's the that you're right, he should
- 18:15Speaker 5: be playing center. The question is more about do they
- 18:19Speaker 5: do you know? Is Brandon Lowe's defense ever going to
- 18:22Speaker 5: be as good as say a guy that the Pirates
- 18:24Speaker 5: would have called up or would have put at second base,
- 18:27Speaker 5: where they're like, well, we can't pay for offense, so
- 18:30Speaker 5: we're going to find the best defensive player. And that's
- 18:33Speaker 5: that's honestly where they were like, hey, we're gonna find
- 18:36Speaker 5: value in this defense. Look, they gave Key Brian Hayes
- 18:40Speaker 5: an extension. I don't know that they thought he was
- 18:43Speaker 5: going to be this, you know, twenty five home run
- 18:47Speaker 5: eighty five RBI type of guy. I think I would
- 18:51Speaker 5: hope their evaluations knew he wasn't going to be great offensively,
- 18:54Speaker 5: but he was great. He was elite defensively, and so
- 18:59Speaker 5: they're kind of trying to make that change. They didn't
- 19:02Speaker 5: go like crazy different, but to me, that's where it'll
- 19:07Speaker 5: be interesting to see how they do, because I truly
- 19:10Speaker 5: believe they're built on that pitching. They've built some pitching
- 19:14Speaker 5: from the minor leagues Schemes Keller, Bubba Chandler, and then
- 19:19Speaker 5: you know the other guys that they have coming. Also,
- 19:22Speaker 5: it's like you have to be able to back those guys.
- 19:25Speaker 5: You can't just be like, good job, guys, you've made it.
- 19:28Speaker 5: We're gonna put you on an island out there and
- 19:31Speaker 5: you better strike everybody out or you're not gonna get.
- 19:34Speaker 6: Through the games.
- 19:36Speaker 4: But how important is defense?
- 19:38Speaker 6: He's very important?
- 19:40Speaker 3: Okay, point There was an argument a couple of days
- 19:42Speaker 3: ago about a guy who signed an extension and if
- 19:44Speaker 3: he's only defense only, But now you're talking about how
- 19:47Speaker 3: defense is this and that I mean Jason Neaewart's und
- 19:51Speaker 3: a contract and people said basically for his defense, Peter Armstrong, Well,
- 19:54Speaker 3: what PCA is going to get now? Defense is important,
- 19:58Speaker 3: especially in center field. If you can sign a thirty
- 20:01Speaker 3: to thirty guy who had a down second imaginef you
- 20:04Speaker 3: didn't have a down second alps he forty forty, then
- 20:06Speaker 3: the deal looks like a steal for the team.
- 20:09Speaker 5: So, I mean, I don't know. It's interesting, and honestly,
- 20:15Speaker 5: you got to build, you got it. This is where
- 20:16Speaker 5: the whole like building the whole team. You have a
- 20:18Speaker 5: guy like aj Persinski on your team, one of the
- 20:20Speaker 5: best hitting catchers during his generation. You can have somebody
- 20:25Speaker 5: at another position that is gonna bring mostly just defense
- 20:31Speaker 5: because he's bringing offense at a position that you normally
- 20:34Speaker 5: don't get offense from. If you have me behind the dish,
- 20:38Speaker 5: you're gonna need somebody else to step up at another
- 20:42Speaker 5: position that normally isn't a major offensive position. That's why
- 20:46Speaker 5: teams that have elite players at catcher, shortstop, and center
- 20:50Speaker 5: field that can both hit and play defense at the
- 20:52Speaker 5: big league level, those are the teams that are in
- 20:56Speaker 5: playoff contention. Like it's not like this like crazy formula,
- 21:01Speaker 5: it's are you are you good up the middle?
- 21:04Speaker 6: Are you good.
- 21:05Speaker 5: Close to the ball? And then does the rest do
- 21:08Speaker 5: the rest of the guys hit? And that's the question
- 21:11Speaker 5: that the Pirates and the Pirates fans are gonna need
- 21:13Speaker 5: to watch and or gonna get to watch this year
- 21:16Speaker 5: and see which iteration of the Pirates is the most successful.
- 21:20Speaker 5: It's opening day, it's not even the second inning yet.
- 21:23Speaker 5: I don't think maybe they got to the I didn't
- 21:25Speaker 5: see if they got to the second inning yet.
- 21:26Speaker 6: But like, yeah, we're not overreacting. We're just making comments.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Yeah, of course, and this is our job. I mean,
- 21:32Speaker 2: we're doing a live show while there's a game going on,
- 21:34Speaker 2: and the best pitcher in the National League is going
- 21:38Speaker 2: up against the team that basically did a shift change
- 21:41Speaker 2: with half their rosters.
- 21:43Speaker 1: So you like to see what this all looks like.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Not all of the blame on O'Neil Cruz three walks
- 21:47Speaker 2: from schemes to other legit hits besides the two that
- 21:50Speaker 2: were missed by Cruise, but.
- 21:54Speaker 3: Almost an infield hit off the end of the bat
- 21:56Speaker 3: by Polanco and was a jam job by Soto, But
- 21:59Speaker 3: he did and he did hit Haldays. But yeah, I
- 22:03Speaker 3: mean and he did walk. Uh Luise Robert had a
- 22:05Speaker 3: hell of a bat in there too.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Did you hear what Louis Roberts said?
- 22:10Speaker 6: By the way he's motivated, He's.
- 22:13Speaker 1: Like, oh, I didn't get these crowds in Chicago. You
- 22:16Speaker 1: did for Opening Days.
- 22:17Speaker 4: Save it, dude.
- 22:17Speaker 3: You were on the teams when they won, So say
- 22:19Speaker 3: that's that's that's spilt milk leaves. Go kick rocks down
- 22:23Speaker 3: the street. Dude, that's such a lie. You didn't get
- 22:25Speaker 3: the teams. You want to know why you did get
- 22:26Speaker 3: the crowds because you weren't very good. You couldn't play,
- 22:29Speaker 3: that's the answer, do you know what?
- 22:30Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 22:31Speaker 4: Cool?
- 22:31Speaker 3: But if he were twenty one, you weren't complaining about
- 22:33Speaker 3: the crowds. And I was there for the postseason. You
- 22:35Speaker 3: had to blackout in the crazy game with the cane
- 22:37Speaker 3: guy and all that and the crowds were stacked.
- 22:39Speaker 4: You weren't complaining. Dude, don't don't take shots. I hate
- 22:43Speaker 4: when people do this.
- 22:43Speaker 3: Don't take shots at your old team because you couldn't play,
- 22:46Speaker 3: You were always hurt and you didn't perform.
- 22:49Speaker 2: Well, wait can I I think you can take shots
- 22:52Speaker 2: at your old team, but not in this case.
- 22:54Speaker 6: No.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Sometimes I think you can, But in this case, he's
- 22:58Speaker 2: pointing to the fans not showing up.
- 22:59Speaker 1: The fans didn't show up because the team was terrible.
- 23:02Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying. The team weren't good.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Yeah, if the fans aren't showing up and they're in
- 23:05Speaker 2: a hundred win team, yeah, sure you want to call
- 23:07Speaker 2: that out and be like, hey, where the fans at.
- 23:09Speaker 1: The fans weren't shown up because the team.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Sucked and all of the guys that they signed up
- 23:13Speaker 2: long term became busts.
- 23:16Speaker 5: I played an entire season where there was legally no
- 23:19Speaker 5: fans allowed in the stands. I promise you still get
- 23:23Speaker 5: the same You get still get the same focus level
- 23:27Speaker 5: to go out and perform because you're on a big
- 23:29Speaker 5: league field. You're going out to perform against other big leaguers,
- 23:34Speaker 5: not oh I'm gonna I'm gonna put on a dog
- 23:38Speaker 5: and pony show in front of all these fans.
- 23:41Speaker 6: No, Like does that mean?
- 23:43Speaker 5: Oh no, none of our fans showed up in away game,
- 23:46Speaker 5: So I didn't have enough energy, Like there was not
- 23:49Speaker 5: do you get energy from the stands? I get that,
- 23:52Speaker 5: But I watched I was in an entire season, sixty
- 23:55Speaker 5: two games where there was no fans, and I promise,
- 23:58Speaker 5: you can still go out and compete.
- 24:02Speaker 2: So overall it looked promising for the Pirates for a minute.
- 24:06Speaker 2: They had a two run home run from a new
- 24:08Speaker 2: edition in brandon Lau. But then you know, Skiens unravels
- 24:12Speaker 2: along with cruise on the I mean the second one
- 24:15Speaker 2: he lost the ball in the sun. The first one,
- 24:17Speaker 2: first step was in I mean, are you blaming that
- 24:19Speaker 2: also on the sun causing the issue?
- 24:21Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 24:21Speaker 3: I've never played center field. Like, I'm not blaming anyone,
- 24:23Speaker 3: and I'm not blaming anything. I mean, who knows the
- 24:25Speaker 3: wind's blowing out? Who knows? I mean, stuff happens. The
- 24:28Speaker 3: first game happened.
- 24:29Speaker 2: If it's June twentieth, it's whatever. But because it's today.
- 24:33Speaker 3: And because it was Skeens, yes, because he gave up
- 24:35Speaker 3: the short I mean, the shortest start of his career,
- 24:38Speaker 3: and he gave up five runs in an inning.
- 24:39Speaker 4: That's why we're talking about it.
- 24:40Speaker 3: If it was June twenty eighth, then it was whoever
- 24:44Speaker 3: name another pitcher on the planet other than probably Trek Scoogle. Okay,
- 24:48Speaker 3: it was a bad inning. It was a bad start.
- 24:49Speaker 3: Freddy Prout the last year, I don't think made it
- 24:51Speaker 3: out of the first inning on opening there. If he did,
- 24:53Speaker 3: it was much longer and he ended up.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Okay, do you know what's going to sift through the
- 24:59Speaker 2: toxic so social media airwaves. If there's another starter that
- 25:03Speaker 2: doesn't perform well that pitched in the World Baseball Classic
- 25:06Speaker 2: because web and schemes didn't pitch well, it's garbage.
- 25:10Speaker 1: But I'm just saying it will pop up. People be Oh,
- 25:13Speaker 1: I shouldn't have pitched in the Classic.
- 25:15Speaker 6: That's what it was. Okay.
- 25:20Speaker 5: Hey, if you hit the age where everything feels a
- 25:22Speaker 5: little bit more difficult the jim, Yes, but everything like
- 25:26Speaker 5: energy crashes in the afternoon.
- 25:30Speaker 2: You know, you might have been reading about low te
- 25:33Speaker 2: and you see your doctor about it and they want
- 25:35Speaker 2: to give you basically shots every week for the rest
- 25:38Speaker 2: of your life. Oh cool, that sounds fun, and then
- 25:41Speaker 2: you dig deeper and you realize what you're signing up for,
- 25:43Speaker 2: and it's three grand a year to shut down your
- 25:45Speaker 2: body's natural production forever.
- 25:47Speaker 1: That is brutal.

- 26:19Speaker 2: them we sent you.
- 26:20Speaker 1: Hey.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Welcome to ABS Challenge System World and umpires Scorecard. The
- 26:26Speaker 2: Twitter account provided some information, so let's go over a
- 26:30Speaker 2: little bit of it right now. They said, we're excited
- 26:32Speaker 2: to anounce some stats related to the new Challenge system.
- 26:35Speaker 2: So they said the Yankees had the highest challenge utilization
- 26:39Speaker 2: rate at thirty seven percent, using challenges and situations where
- 26:42Speaker 2: it would be the right choice. Remember when the Brewers
- 26:45Speaker 2: were trying to do the green card to say, oh,
- 26:47Speaker 2: this would be the right choice time period. Well, you
- 26:49Speaker 2: can't do that, But the Yankees were doing that well.
- 26:53Speaker 2: They also had the lowest challenge restraint rate at ninety
- 26:56Speaker 2: seven point two percent.
- 26:57Speaker 1: This is going offspring training, by the way.
- 27:00Speaker 2: They challenge when they shouldn't more than any other team.
- 27:05Speaker 2: Combining restraint and utilization, they created the Challenge I score,
- 27:09Speaker 2: the rate at which players and teams make the correct
- 27:11Speaker 2: challenge decision.
- 27:12Speaker 1: I feel like you're just gonna love this stat.
- 27:14Speaker 2: The catchers with the highest Challenge I score this spring
- 27:19Speaker 2: where will Banfield and Hayzus Rodriguez head close to ninety
- 27:22Speaker 2: eight percent.
- 27:23Speaker 1: But that's just one of many stats. A great question.
- 27:29Speaker 6: They had a great spring training, did an awesome job.
- 27:33Speaker 6: Good for them. Yeah, teams are also supposed to do.
- 27:36Speaker 5: I know the Yankees are supposed to push the limit
- 27:39Speaker 5: in spring training. Sorry, I mean this is going to
- 27:42Speaker 5: be a cool stat moving forward, But spring training, you're
- 27:46Speaker 5: supposed to push the limit. How many of those fifty
- 27:49Speaker 5: to fifty balls are you getting?
- 27:51Speaker 4: Right?
- 27:51Speaker 5: The umpires are guessing, so are the catchers, and so
- 27:53Speaker 5: are the hitters.
- 27:55Speaker 2: Isn't the point to point out the egregious stuff early
- 27:58Speaker 2: on in games and be very careful about the borderline pitches.
- 28:02Speaker 3: Yes, Bryce Trange is challenged on one that was at
- 28:04Speaker 3: all kinds of late so and he lost.
- 28:06Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Umpires might have a good day. They got the they
- 28:11Speaker 2: went one for one yesterday. There was an overturned right
- 28:17Speaker 2: one in in the Mets game. I mean, we can't
- 28:19Speaker 2: follow everything right now, but crews got wrung up on
- 28:22Speaker 2: a challenge I think in that game. But the stat
- 28:27Speaker 2: that you want to see is the challenge percentage for hitters, right.
- 28:32Speaker 4: I just want to know who's right and who's not right.
- 28:33Speaker 1: Yeah, Because then doesn't that help you cats and hitters, and.
- 28:35Speaker 3: It helps you choose who can who can who who's
- 28:37Speaker 3: supposed to challenge catchers? No pitcher should ever be allowed
- 28:41Speaker 3: to challenge if I was a manager. And two, once
- 28:43Speaker 3: you missed a couple as a catcher or a hitter,
- 28:45Speaker 3: then you're told by the manager there's another one right there.
- 28:47Speaker 4: Automated balls and strikes overturned right there?
- 28:52Speaker 2: Oh in the Cubs Game's Cubs, that's just that's just
- 28:55Speaker 2: did one.
- 28:57Speaker 1: So if you have a good percentage.
- 28:59Speaker 5: It's gonna fit. It's gonna be fifty two to forty
- 29:02Speaker 5: eight percent. It's really what's gonna happen.
- 29:07Speaker 1: You think it's gonna be that close?
- 29:08Speaker 2: You don't think there's gonna be a few guys that
- 29:09Speaker 2: are at like sixty two percent.
- 29:11Speaker 4: Tell me some guys that are right more than wrong.
- 29:14Speaker 6: Noh, totally.
- 29:14Speaker 1: I'm saying, like, how much more do you think?
- 29:16Speaker 2: What do you think the variants level will be for
- 29:19Speaker 2: you know, uh, whatever they qualified as a minimum of
- 29:23Speaker 2: I don't know, twenty challenges for the year. What do
- 29:25Speaker 2: you think the variants will be? Like the lowest end
- 29:28Speaker 2: and the highest end?
- 29:30Speaker 5: Oh, I mean there's gonna be guys that are only
- 29:32Speaker 5: gonna be They're only gonna they're gonna be ninety percent.
- 29:35Speaker 5: They're gonna get because they're not gonna push the limit
- 29:37Speaker 5: unless it's extreme. I think those are gonna be the
- 29:41Speaker 5: and it's not gonna be the stars because the stars
- 29:42Speaker 5: are gonna be able to use it late in the
- 29:44Speaker 5: game and they're gonna get ones wrong that they're gonna
- 29:46Speaker 5: be like gotta at least try it just ended the game,
- 29:48Speaker 5: so you're gonna get those. It's like saying, oh, my
- 29:51Speaker 5: free My three point percentage is off because I take
- 29:53Speaker 5: the buzzer beaters. You know, a lot of NBA dudes
- 29:56Speaker 5: they don't even shoot the they don't even shoot the
- 29:58Speaker 5: three pointer at the end of the quarter whatever because
- 30:01Speaker 5: the time's running out and it affects their affects their
- 30:03Speaker 5: shot percentage. So to me, it's gonna there's gonna be
- 30:06Speaker 5: the dudes that get go a whole season. They might
- 30:09Speaker 5: do twelve challenges, which would be a lot of challenges
- 30:12Speaker 5: and not get one wrong, and then there's gonna be
- 30:14Speaker 5: dudes who get every single one of them wrong.
- 30:28Speaker 2: We have this tweet from Andy Coska in slap Pans
- 30:31Speaker 2: here Baltimore banner. He's talking about the video game world
- 30:37Speaker 2: and injuries. So we can run it. It relates a
- 30:41Speaker 2: little bit here to Jackson Holliday. He's been using axe
- 30:44Speaker 2: handlebats after breaking the hammetbone. He's not back at he's
- 30:48Speaker 2: not here to start Opening Day. It's because of Fortnite
- 30:51Speaker 2: kind of. Heston Kerstad plays Fortnite with Corbyn Carrol, who
- 30:56Speaker 2: also broke his hammetbone. Carol told kurs ed D to
- 31:00Speaker 2: tell Holiday try the axe handle.
- 31:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean the Axeandol has been around for a
- 31:06Speaker 3: few years now. I actually have a bat here. I
- 31:09Speaker 3: actually held the bat like that. I mean, I still
- 31:11Speaker 3: broke my handmate, but I actually held if you can
- 31:14Speaker 3: show my bottom hand, so I didn't hold the bat.
- 31:16Speaker 3: I actually held the bat more like this, which is
- 31:19Speaker 3: how the axe handle fits pee a loanza is it
- 31:21Speaker 3: as opposed to a lot of guys who hold it
- 31:23Speaker 3: more straight with the knob or even hang over them.
- 31:25Speaker 3: But I actually always kind of held it like this,
- 31:28Speaker 3: which is kind of how the axe handle works. See
- 31:29Speaker 3: how it's not straight and flat. It's kind of at
- 31:31Speaker 3: an angle this way. That's what the axe handle does,
- 31:35Speaker 3: and it's supposed to help you get more whip. Now
- 31:37Speaker 3: whether it helped me or not, I don't know, but
- 31:39Speaker 3: that was just always the way I held the bat.
- 31:41Speaker 3: I could never hold it straight. I always kind of was.
- 31:43Speaker 3: People were like, oh, you're choking up. No, I'm not
- 31:45Speaker 3: choking up. I'm actually on the knob. But I just
- 31:47Speaker 3: hold it. I don't hold it straight. That was just
- 31:49Speaker 3: the way I always did it.
- 31:50Speaker 6: I don't know why.
- 31:51Speaker 3: But now they make a bat and if it helps
- 31:52Speaker 3: them get back sooner from the handmade bone, I'm all
- 31:55Speaker 3: for it. But I know I switched bats one year
- 31:57Speaker 3: and I couldn't wait to switch back.
- 31:58Speaker 1: Did you tried the axe handle?
- 32:01Speaker 3: I know teammates had it, but I just I held
- 32:03Speaker 3: it like an axe handle. So when never, I never?
- 32:06Speaker 3: I switched bats one time my career was the worst
- 32:07Speaker 3: decision I made. Paul Kenerko talked me into it.
- 32:11Speaker 4: Terrible, I do, absolutely terrible.
- 32:13Speaker 1: I do. You just didn't feel comfortable with a different battle.
- 32:16Speaker 3: So Paul I used to break a lot of bats,
- 32:18Speaker 3: and when my bats would break, it would break, and
- 32:21Speaker 3: Paul would always get a thing in his thumb because
- 32:23Speaker 3: he worked thicker. He used thicker handle bats than me,
- 32:25Speaker 3: So then I would get jammed, bat would break, and
- 32:27Speaker 3: then my thumb started hurting, and I'm like, damn, dude,
- 32:30Speaker 3: I'm one of your thumb hurts all the time. So
- 32:31Speaker 3: then I switched back and it went away.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Right, So he was using the wrong bat or worked
- 32:38Speaker 1: for plus homers. It worked for him.
- 32:40Speaker 4: I think it worked great for him.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Yeah, but not for you. You've got to use your
- 32:43Speaker 1: own back.
- 32:43Speaker 4: He had more balls in the barrel than I did.
- 32:45Speaker 2: Okay, hey for tomorrow's show, Friday show, and yes we're
