- 0:00Speaker 1: Do you remember your first nap against the Steelers? Yeah?
- 0:03Speaker 1: And how that play? I think I pancaked him. Now,
- 0:05Speaker 1: I don't remember exactly, so this might not be completely true,
- 0:08Speaker 1: but I'm pretty sure I pancaked him, and you know,
- 0:11Speaker 1: gave him one of those like standing over the top
- 0:13Speaker 1: things that you get a flag for. Now like that,
- 0:15Speaker 1: Welcome to the NFL. How about you? Welcome to the NFL.
- 0:19Speaker 2: I like it.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Well, don't tell James I said that is scary as hell. Dude?
- 0:24Speaker 1: Have you seen him on Instagram? If I saw him
- 0:27Speaker 1: on the street, I'd still call him mister Harrison.
- 0:36Speaker 3: What's up?
- 0:36Speaker 2: Everybody on peanuts to him? And this is the NFL
- 0:40Speaker 2: Player's Second Act podcast and with me as always as
- 0:43Speaker 2: my trustee co host Roman. I am on one.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Harm No, You're You're definitely on one. I'm clearly we're
- 0:49Speaker 3: gonna have a good one right here, because I guess
- 0:52Speaker 3: has good energy. Peanut has good energy.
- 0:54Speaker 1: You got the energy.
- 0:55Speaker 3: I have good energy to a nap.
- 0:57Speaker 2: I had to rest my mind for a couple of minutes,
- 0:58Speaker 2: but I just shut it off, get it back going.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Who we got? Hey?
- 1:02Speaker 2: First ballot, Hall of Fame, ten Pro Bowls, like ten
- 1:06Speaker 2: straight Pro Bowls six First Team All Prolls, Ladies and gentlemen,
- 1:10Speaker 2: please welcome to the Pop missus Jill Thomps.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Yes, thank you, thank you, thank you very much, thank
- 1:17Speaker 1: you very much.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Welcome to the Pop.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Man.
- 1:19Speaker 3: We appreciate you coming on. I like the hat.
- 1:21Speaker 2: What hat is that?
- 1:21Speaker 1: Thank you? Well, I'm glad. Yes, this is the hat
- 1:24Speaker 1: that we're not now selling for my farm, my Hall
- 1:26Speaker 1: of Fame beef hat. And it actually fits my giant melon.
- 1:29Speaker 1: So for those of you guys out there that got
- 1:31Speaker 1: the big head, this is the hat for you.
- 1:33Speaker 3: I like that. I like that.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Was it the olive green?
- 1:35Speaker 3: I like the green?
- 1:36Speaker 1: I like I like the green. My farm is in
- 1:39Speaker 1: southwest Wisconsin, outside of Bosco Bell. It's about an hour
- 1:42Speaker 1: west of Madison.
- 1:44Speaker 2: He even said that like a way Wisconson.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Like, well, you know, I've been in Wisconsin and then
- 1:49Speaker 1: high Oh my whole life. So you catch a little
- 1:52Speaker 1: I just never left.
- 1:52Speaker 2: No, what do you sell at your farm?
- 1:54Speaker 1: So we're selling all beef products, right, we were raised
- 1:57Speaker 1: beef cattle, so obviously steaks and things like that, but
- 2:00Speaker 1: also beef jerky, beef stick, summer sausage, all the good stuff.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Oh yeah, you.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Literally after this, you're gonna have to give me the
- 2:10Speaker 2: card I found.
- 2:12Speaker 1: I got one of my bag. Don't worry, I'm always selling, right.
- 2:15Speaker 2: I literally just bought like almost three four hundred pounds
- 2:19Speaker 2: of beef from a butcher and I think they were
- 2:22Speaker 2: in Montana somewhere. They ship it to me, but.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Ship right to your door. I might deliver it right,
- 2:27Speaker 1: depending on how this interview goes. Okay, Yeah, we're raising
- 2:30Speaker 1: the best stops not too far from Milwaukee. Perfect, that'll
- 2:32Speaker 1: be easy. I'll come deliver it myself with bells on.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Yeah, that's awesome.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Yeah, because we did a ragnar run. We did it.
- 2:40Speaker 3: You guys convince in Chicago to Madison.
- 2:44Speaker 1: You're in from Chicago to Madison one year, one day,
- 2:49Speaker 1: twenty four hours, four hours, and so.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Yeah, significant others convinced us. Somehow I got drug into this.
- 2:58Speaker 3: This is not what I do, is all right, So
- 3:00Speaker 3: we're doing it this year again.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Let's go.
- 3:03Speaker 3: That doesn't last time. Yeah, I did go to That
- 3:06Speaker 3: was my only experience of Madison. Those it was really
- 3:09Speaker 3: really cool. The water it was really nice. The weather
- 3:12Speaker 3: was actually decent too, so.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Hopefully it was summertime. It was.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Yeah, but it still got cold, still got cold.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a nice cool. It's cool. It's not cold
- 3:20Speaker 1: in the summer, right, It's where you want to be.
- 3:22Speaker 3: I'm from Alabama, so I felt cold cold to be
- 3:28Speaker 3: all right. I want to ask you first thing, what
- 3:30Speaker 3: were the emotions that you were going through when you
- 3:32Speaker 3: saw country music star Morgan Wallen rocking the Joe Thomas
- 3:37Speaker 3: seventy two Jersey back in Wisconsin.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Wisconsin, Whompton but similar. It was interesting because me and
- 3:46Speaker 1: my family were big Morgan long fans. Yes, obviously one
- 3:50Speaker 1: of the biggest, if not Jersey. I didn't know any
- 3:53Speaker 1: of it, and I found out through a text message
- 3:56Speaker 1: that it was happening. I was at the concert. We
- 3:59Speaker 1: had our four childre my youngest is six. Reese. We
- 4:02Speaker 1: love you very much, although in that moment we didn't
- 4:04Speaker 1: love you so much. So there was a little raindel
- 4:06Speaker 1: a had to be any of the show, so it
- 4:07Speaker 1: kind of got pushed back. And then when they started,
- 4:10Speaker 1: we made it till like ten forty five or so,
- 4:12Speaker 1: and it was a Sunday, so like kids had stuff
- 4:15Speaker 1: going on on Monday, and my daughter would not stop
- 4:17Speaker 1: crying she was so tired. My six year old, Oh,
- 4:21Speaker 1: and finally, after like thirty minutes of it, my wife's like,
- 4:23Speaker 1: we just got to leave, Like she's not gonna make it.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Like we've already seen a lot of the show. It's great.
- 4:28Speaker 1: So I throw over my shoulder. I'm carrying her to
- 4:31Speaker 1: the car. We just get right outside of Camp Randall Stadium.
- 4:33Speaker 1: We hear the concerts still going on, and all of
- 4:35Speaker 1: a sudden, my phone is just blowing up like crazy,
- 4:38Speaker 1: and yeah, I got an Apple Watch on, so I'm like
- 4:40Speaker 1: kind of peeking to see who's hitting me up? Why
- 4:42Speaker 1: am I getting so many messages at eleven o'clock on
- 4:44Speaker 1: Sunday night? Yeah, And like the picture pops up and
- 4:46Speaker 1: I go, you've got to be kidding me. I go,
- 4:49Speaker 1: Annie Morgan Wong. He's singing right now, he's wearing my jersey,
- 4:53Speaker 1: and we're walking out of the stadium, and I was like,
- 4:55Speaker 1: should we tell the kids because they're going to hate
- 4:57Speaker 1: their sister forever. But it was a really cool moment
- 5:01Speaker 1: in hindsight, because I think that picture of him wearing
- 5:05Speaker 1: my jersey, which was completely a surprise. My wife like
- 5:08Speaker 1: got a little commemorative ticket printed out and put it
- 5:11Speaker 1: up in the office, and I'm like that's forever gonna
- 5:13Speaker 1: bond me and make me think of my daughter. Maybe
- 5:16Speaker 1: in the moment there was the next emotions, but like
- 5:18Speaker 1: it's just cool we had that memory and it's going
- 5:20Speaker 1: to stick out, probably even more if you're just sitting
- 5:22Speaker 1: there enjoying the concert the way it was.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Well, you got a great story out of it, exactly.
- 5:25Speaker 3: And you know the Cleveland Browns as an organization, you
- 5:28Speaker 3: know they when you were went into the Hall of Fame,
- 5:31Speaker 3: they they put up a whole list of numbers to
- 5:35Speaker 3: kind of support you in your career, right, and the
- 5:39Speaker 3: number twenty three of the number of quarterbacks that you
- 5:42Speaker 3: blocked four doing your eleven year career. How many out
- 5:47Speaker 3: of these twenty three do you think you can name.
- 5:50Speaker 3: I've seen you on another show you did good ESPN.
- 5:53Speaker 1: I did a show once, ye, but that was like
- 5:56Speaker 1: six years ago.
- 5:58Speaker 3: Let's test the marine at the.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Beginning and then the end is okay, But in the middle,
- 6:03Speaker 1: like some of those middle years, and.
- 6:05Speaker 3: I went through the LIS, I was like that I
- 6:07Speaker 3: didn't even know he played there.
- 6:09Speaker 1: You didn't even know he was in the NFL.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Probably it's kind of similar to me in Chicago with
- 6:13Speaker 2: all the quarterbacks.
- 6:14Speaker 3: We then you have twenty three but hi, Joe, Yeah,
- 6:18Speaker 3: pressures on.
- 6:19Speaker 1: So we started with Charlie Fry, Derek Anderson, Brady Quinn,
- 6:23Speaker 1: Seneca Wallace, Yeah, Jake Delome, Josh McCown, Colet McCoy, Austin Davis,
- 6:29Speaker 1: Robert Griffin the third.
- 6:30Speaker 3: I didn't know that he'd played for you guys.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Ye. Yeah. Terrelle Pryor took a couple snaps at quarterback
- 6:35Speaker 1: in emergency situations. Charlie Whitehurst touchdown, Jesus, Jesus, clipboard Jesus.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Also yes, clipboard Jesus touchdown Jesus and South different guy,
- 6:46Speaker 1: same level of fame. I all forgot about. I was
- 6:49Speaker 1: waiting for my mind. I'm like, did I play with Johnny? Yes?
- 6:53Speaker 1: I did. I have a lot of scars still from
- 6:55Speaker 1: those man Zel days. Ryan Hoyer Yeah, actually called decent
- 6:58Speaker 1: season there, seven and nine. Bruce greg Kowski, Brandon Whedon,
- 7:03Speaker 1: he was Dad Lewis, Josh Johnson one of my favorite
- 7:08Speaker 1: crazy how long he played in the He's still playing.
- 7:11Speaker 1: You're seventeen way outlived, Ken Dorsey, Cody Kessler, yep USC
- 7:17Speaker 1: third round pick. I think uh.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Armani Edwards was on the list. Mm hmmm.
- 7:26Speaker 1: It's may have been concussed in that game. I don't
- 7:28Speaker 1: remember it happened.
- 7:29Speaker 3: And the other one is, uh, Deshaun Kaiser.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Deshaun Kaiser, yes, sah, he was our starter My last
- 7:36Speaker 1: season is ish Yeah, so not bad. You know, I
- 7:41Speaker 1: haven't gone through that list in a while, and there's
- 7:43Speaker 1: a lot of names on there, not as many Hall
- 7:45Speaker 1: of famers, not as many, not as many guys.
- 7:47Speaker 3: You know, do you know your very first guy?
- 7:50Speaker 1: Yeah, it was Charlie Frye because I had him for
- 7:52Speaker 1: exactly one half of football. He was our starting quarterback.
- 7:56Speaker 1: He was our captain, local guy. They benched him at
- 7:59Speaker 1: halftime of Week one and they traded him the next
- 8:01Speaker 1: day to Seattle, and I've never seen him since. That's awesome,
- 8:05Speaker 1: as youre welcome to the NFL moment any By the way,
- 8:07Speaker 1: I guys, your captain, he's not gonna be here anymore.
- 8:10Speaker 1: We just got rid of it.
- 8:12Speaker 2: And your last was just shn Kaiser, So you already
- 8:14Speaker 2: hit that one on that, Hi. It's a good job
- 8:16Speaker 2: bad ten three hundred and sixty three. That's the number
- 8:19Speaker 2: of consecutive snaps you played, which is insane. That's I
- 8:24Speaker 2: don't even know how you how you even get ten thousand,
- 8:28Speaker 2: three hundred and sixty three snaps? What is your body
- 8:32Speaker 2: feel like? Having played ten thousand, three hundred and sixty
- 8:35Speaker 2: three consecutive.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Snaps considering that was ten and a half seasons, yep,
- 8:41Speaker 1: never missed a play. I feel okay by that standard. Yeah,
- 8:45Speaker 1: I just had my hip replaced like three ish months ago.
- 8:48Speaker 1: But I'm feeling great okay with swimming and yoga and
- 8:51Speaker 1: play a little basketball.
- 8:52Speaker 3: So you already got the hip done.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Got the hip done, it was felt way better. It
- 8:56Speaker 1: was really really bad and it was really affecting my back,
- 8:58Speaker 1: which I didn't realize they were so linked together. But
- 9:01Speaker 1: I was having really really bad back problems and the
- 9:03Speaker 1: hip was hurting. But since I did the hip, the
- 9:05Speaker 1: back is feeling great, so I just have to monitor it.
- 9:08Speaker 1: I don't know what it's like for you guys, but
- 9:10Speaker 1: there's certain parts of my body, like the outside of
- 9:13Speaker 1: my left knee, just because of the position that I
- 9:14Speaker 1: was in all the time, that's way worse than other parts.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Like like I said, I can play basketball like it's
- 9:21Speaker 1: not like competitive, but I can run back and forth
- 9:24Speaker 1: and it feels great because that motion is fine, But like,
- 9:27Speaker 1: if I get into that position that I played in
- 9:30Speaker 1: for ten thousand plus snaps, that's the time when I'm
- 9:33Speaker 1: starting to feel it. Look, man, do you remember your
- 9:36Speaker 1: first You remember your first snap against the Steelers? Yeah,
- 9:40Speaker 1: and have that play. I think I pancaked him. No,
- 9:42Speaker 1: I don't remember exactly, so this might not be completely true,
- 9:45Speaker 1: but I'm pretty sure I pancaked him, and you know,
- 9:47Speaker 1: gave him one of those like standing over the top
- 9:49Speaker 1: things that you get a flag for. Now you like that?
- 9:52Speaker 1: Welcome to the NFL. How about you? Welcome to the NFL.
- 9:56Speaker 2: I like it.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Well, don't tell James I said that.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Feel scary as hell?
- 10:01Speaker 1: Dud. Have you seen him on Instagram? If I saw
- 10:03Speaker 1: him on the street, I'd still call him mister Harrison.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Dude is always in the gym.
- 10:08Speaker 3: He is always in debo and congrats, because you know,
- 10:12Speaker 3: I judge people in their basketball post football careers as
- 10:16Speaker 3: like do you play half quarter or do you play
- 10:18Speaker 3: full court?
- 10:19Speaker 1: We do full court.
- 10:20Speaker 3: So the fact that you're like, no, I do full court,
- 10:22Speaker 3: like I much respect do you? Anytime you can get
- 10:25Speaker 3: a little sand bag layup like that's right, never matter.
- 10:28Speaker 1: I don't jump for rebounds, Like, I don't do any
- 10:30Speaker 1: of that. I just shoot the outside shots, you know,
- 10:33Speaker 1: like jogged back shoot half ass defense. Yeah, just get
- 10:37Speaker 1: a sat.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Do you play basketball? I feel like you can't hoop.
- 10:41Speaker 3: Don't be disrespectful. Yes, I feel like you can't hoop.
- 10:44Speaker 3: I ain't never seen.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Bottle locker room fights started over you can't play basketball.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Don't be disrespectful. I've never seen you hoop either. I
- 10:52Speaker 3: can't dunk.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I can't dunk. When the last time you've dunked?
- 10:56Speaker 3: Uh?
- 10:56Speaker 2: Probably within probably like the last three or four months.
- 11:00Speaker 3: No, I mean, dude, I'm a finger roll guy at
- 11:03Speaker 3: this point. I'm straight finger roll ice man. Yeah, I
- 11:06Speaker 3: got another number for you, zero point zero zero four.
- 11:13Speaker 3: That's is your sacks allowed percentage. I don't know if
- 11:16Speaker 3: you knew that, did you?
- 11:17Speaker 1: I didn't know that, but if I was going to guess,
- 11:20Speaker 1: I was probably going down that either sacks or holds,
- 11:24Speaker 1: so neither.
- 11:24Speaker 3: So you were really good at avoiding both. So out
- 11:27Speaker 3: of your six hundred six thousand, six hundred and eighty
- 11:30Speaker 3: pass block snaps, I mean dude, they did a really
- 11:33Speaker 3: good job of writing down your resume, you only allowed
- 11:35Speaker 3: thirty sacks responsible for. I don't know if they were
- 11:37Speaker 3: all even your fault actually asked, Yeah, yeah, do you
- 11:41Speaker 3: even remember the first sack that you probably gave up.
- 11:46Speaker 1: It's weird. Sacks are weird because like it's kind of
- 11:48Speaker 1: your fault. It's kind of that guy qua. Yeah, Yeah,
- 11:52Speaker 1: quarterback was maybe a little deep. It was definitely in
- 11:54Speaker 1: that game against the Steelers or James Harrison, because they
- 11:56Speaker 1: had six sacks in the first half, so I'm sure
- 11:59Speaker 1: that of them was by my fault.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Was there ever a team that you played or a
- 12:05Speaker 2: defense that you went against, or a decordinator and he
- 12:08Speaker 2: just confused the shout of you with the defense and
- 12:12Speaker 2: what they would do. Is there is there a game
- 12:14Speaker 2: or a team that just kind of gave you problems?
- 12:16Speaker 2: Like every time you play, we're just like we got
- 12:18Speaker 2: to be on rp's and q's because this quarterback or
- 12:20Speaker 2: excuse me, this uh decoordinator, he knows how to mess
- 12:24Speaker 2: with us.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Yeah, Rex Ryan Baltimore because they had all those Hall
- 12:29Speaker 1: of famers on defense, and so he could get away
- 12:31Speaker 1: with calling anything, like he didn't have to worry about
- 12:33Speaker 1: covering guys up or covering areas of the field because
- 12:37Speaker 1: he knew if he was sending the house like they
- 12:38Speaker 1: were getting home Minterrell, Suggs, Jared Johnson, Ray Lewis, Helodi
- 12:43Speaker 1: not on the middle of Trevor Price. Like every one
- 12:45Speaker 1: of those dudes was Pro Bowlers and Hall of Famers,
- 12:48Speaker 1: And so I remember a very specific play that really
- 12:51Speaker 1: screwed us, and it was not very nice of Rex
- 12:54Speaker 1: because it was on accident. But they had ten guys
- 12:57Speaker 1: in the field, and as you guys know, like on
- 12:59Speaker 1: the offense and we're looking to block something in pass protection,
- 13:02Speaker 1: we're counting, right, where's our receivers. Who's covering those dudes?
- 13:05Speaker 1: Where's the safeties? If they're over the top right now,
- 13:07Speaker 1: I know that guy's a threat. We got to count
- 13:09Speaker 1: them in our count. Well, they had two cornerbacks over
- 13:13Speaker 1: two receivers. The safety was pushed this way, so nobody
- 13:15Speaker 1: else was over there. So Hank Freyley was our center,
- 13:18Speaker 1: a great offensive line coach now in the NFL, and
- 13:22Speaker 1: Hank was looking out there and so he took the
- 13:24Speaker 1: protection the other way. Well, they only had ten on
- 13:26Speaker 1: the field, but we didn't count how many guys they had.
- 13:28Speaker 1: We were just looking the structure of the defense, their
- 13:30Speaker 1: safety right before the snap came off the sideline because
- 13:33Speaker 1: I'm sure the decordinator or whoever on the sideline was there,
- 13:37Speaker 1: really got ten. So he comes on the field after
- 13:39Speaker 1: like we've already pointed to going the other way, we're
- 13:42Speaker 1: about to snap the ball, and then now they blitzed
- 13:44Speaker 1: the nickel corner over there, so was the.
- 13:46Speaker 3: Count we're going the other way?
- 13:46Speaker 1: He was on account for you can't blitz there's nobody
- 13:48Speaker 1: topping to you, right, So it was that where I
- 13:51Speaker 1: was like, I know that was on accident, but that
- 13:52Speaker 1: was not very nice. Pretty no idea and no chance
- 13:55Speaker 1: to be able to pick up that blitz.
- 13:56Speaker 3: No way, all right? So who's like a defen edge?
- 14:01Speaker 3: Who was somebody that I know? You didn't give up
- 14:04Speaker 3: a lot? So I won't use the word struggle, but
- 14:06Speaker 3: like maybe you knew, all right, this is going to
- 14:10Speaker 3: be a day.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, my entire career was James Harrison and Terrell
- 14:15Speaker 1: Suggs in the AFC North, so I was playing those
- 14:17Speaker 1: guys twice a year. Justin Smith was in Cincinnati my
- 14:21Speaker 1: first and he was so yeah, he wasn't yet big
- 14:24Speaker 1: enough to play on the inside like he did for
- 14:27Speaker 1: the forty nine ers and so just in the AFC North,
- 14:29Speaker 1: it was a struggle every single week. But then the
- 14:32Speaker 1: Marcus ware Dwight for any of those or two other
- 14:34Speaker 1: guys that always.
- 14:36Speaker 3: Just separates these great pass rushers or guys that are like, okay,
- 14:42Speaker 3: because is it because they have multiple moves, is they
- 14:45Speaker 3: still have to speak the power string which one guy?
- 14:48Speaker 1: Yeah, you always got to have one thing that you
- 14:49Speaker 1: do really really well. But I think the things that
- 14:52Speaker 1: make a defensive end really really tough to block is
- 14:55Speaker 1: a guy that can beat you to the inside, he
- 14:57Speaker 1: can beat you outside and then he can run you over. Yeah,
- 14:59Speaker 1: because if you can only you two of the three,
- 15:00Speaker 1: I can kind of set on the other ones. And
- 15:02Speaker 1: then if you're trying to, like if you don't have power,
- 15:04Speaker 1: I can set soft, and then if you try to
- 15:06Speaker 1: bull rush me, I can just kind of catch myself
- 15:08Speaker 1: after that absorb it. But if I'm worried about man
- 15:11Speaker 1: Duight Freeney, like he's got this killer spin move and
- 15:13Speaker 1: I'm sitting on that and then he runs up the field, okay,
- 15:16Speaker 1: I can transition. But then if he if I'm sitting
- 15:18Speaker 1: on the inside and he turns into a bull rush,
- 15:20Speaker 1: he's too strong and too fast and into your body
- 15:23Speaker 1: too quickly that you can't recover exactly because he's like, yeah,
- 15:34Speaker 1: so that guy was a beast, but yeah, if you
- 15:36Speaker 1: can beat a guy inside outside and then you can
- 15:38Speaker 1: run them over, Like those are the dudes.
- 15:40Speaker 3: I'm gonna make sure I write that down.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Ye yeah, tell your friends. But there's not many guys
- 15:44Speaker 1: that are like that that can do all three things
- 15:46Speaker 1: really well.
- 15:47Speaker 2: And so the league is coming out with a new
- 15:50Speaker 2: offensive Lineman awards called a Protector War.
- 15:53Speaker 3: Yeah you get excited.
- 15:55Speaker 2: I feel like every time we ask a guess this,
- 15:57Speaker 2: especially a line, and they go, yeah, it's about why
- 16:00Speaker 2: do you thinks about time that we start showing our
- 16:02Speaker 2: love soar and some love to the offensive lineman.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Well, because when these guys are up for the Hall
- 16:06Speaker 1: of Fame, we don't have to talk about point zero
- 16:09Speaker 1: zero four sacks per play and oh he played a
- 16:11Speaker 1: lot of snaps and like he had a lot of
- 16:13Speaker 1: quarterbacks and don't you feel bad for him? Like you
- 16:16Speaker 1: can be like, hey, he wont protect her of the
- 16:17Speaker 1: Year four times.
- 16:19Speaker 3: It's a great like wow.
- 16:20Speaker 1: You know, like as an on lineman, most of our
- 16:22Speaker 1: stats are things that we do that are bad and
- 16:26Speaker 1: it's like, how many times did he avoid the bad thing? Okay,
- 16:29Speaker 1: that makes you pretty good. But it's cool as an
- 16:31Speaker 1: offensive lineman to get get flowers every now and then
- 16:34Speaker 1: and something as an award, or get some recognition for
- 16:38Speaker 1: doing something good, even though it's you know, a season
- 16:41Speaker 1: long award, and certainly in every season there's gonna be
- 16:43Speaker 1: a lot of guys that are deserving. But I think
- 16:45Speaker 1: it's great to shine the light on the big fellows
- 16:48Speaker 1: every now and then.
- 16:48Speaker 2: So if the league were to come to you today,
- 16:50Speaker 2: right now and say, Joe, do you get to design
- 16:52Speaker 2: the award? How would you design it?
- 16:54Speaker 1: Hmm, that's a great question. Maybe it's an old lineman
- 16:58Speaker 1: like arms around his brothers in the locker room having
- 17:00Speaker 1: a beer after the game. I don't think they would
- 17:02Speaker 1: allow that. But I think the ones that I always
- 17:05Speaker 1: love are like when you see the offensive line pictures
- 17:07Speaker 1: and he's got like a snarl on his face and
- 17:09Speaker 1: snop bubbles coming out of his nose and he's pointing
- 17:11Speaker 1: out there. You know, I think those are kind of cool.
- 17:14Speaker 1: So something like that where a guy's in his stance
- 17:16Speaker 1: kind of.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Like cool something. What would you name it?
- 17:21Speaker 1: The protector of the year.
- 17:22Speaker 3: Okay, that's just enough. Okay, hey we're taking a POLLI okay,
- 17:27Speaker 3: we're taking a polly.
- 17:28Speaker 1: I guess I hadn't thought about the name because I
- 17:29Speaker 1: thought it already was decided.
- 17:32Speaker 3: So tell me this. We we like to ask guys
- 17:35Speaker 3: what's their welcome to the NFL moment? You already did that,
- 17:38Speaker 3: so I want you to tell me what was your
- 17:42Speaker 3: welcome to Cleveland moments? Playing in Cleveland, it's a little different.
- 17:46Speaker 1: It is it is. I'll give you two real quick. One.
- 17:50Speaker 1: When I showed up, they were excited. The fans were pumped.
- 17:54Speaker 1: And usually if you're an offensive lineman drafted in the
- 17:58Speaker 1: top five, the fans are like, oh hey, so we
- 18:00Speaker 1: should have the quarterback or should have drafted the receiver,
- 18:03Speaker 1: Like how about somebody? That's exciting, you know. But as
- 18:06Speaker 1: soon as I got there, you could feel that Cleveland
- 18:09Speaker 1: Browns fans understood the game. They respected line play. There
- 18:12Speaker 1: was that blue collar nature to the fan base that
- 18:15Speaker 1: really appreciates good line play. So that was really cool.
- 18:19Speaker 1: That was definitely a welcome to Cleveland, just understanding what
- 18:22Speaker 1: this fan base is all about. And then the other
- 18:27Speaker 1: welcome to Cleveland moment was my rookie year. We're playing
- 18:29Speaker 1: the Buffalo Bills Jim Leonard, he's playing safety for him,
- 18:32Speaker 1: and we call it the Snowball. Though it was not
- 18:35Speaker 1: a remarkable game by NFL history standards, but it snowed
- 18:39Speaker 1: seven inches between warm ups being finished and middle of
- 18:44Speaker 1: the second half. So it went from like, not exactly
- 18:47Speaker 1: a day like today, but it might rate it might
- 18:50Speaker 1: snow a little bit too. Wow, it's snowing so hard
- 18:53Speaker 1: that I can't see across the field and I can't
- 18:55Speaker 1: see the dudes in the other color jersey. And the
- 18:58Speaker 1: film was so bad because it was snowing so hard.
- 19:00Speaker 1: We didn't even watch the film because there was so
- 19:02Speaker 1: much snow between the lens and the field. It just
- 19:05Speaker 1: looked like you were watching like a white screen, like
- 19:06Speaker 1: you didn't have the right.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, how was it so you were here in
- 19:12Speaker 2: that Lebron James era?
- 19:13Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 19:14Speaker 2: How was it like living here going to the games?
- 19:18Speaker 2: Just the Lebron James effect or whatever? Like, how was
- 19:21Speaker 2: sports in Cleveland during that time?
- 19:23Speaker 1: It was awesome. I mean, Cleveland loves its sports. It's
- 19:26Speaker 1: a pro sports town. You know, people talk about New
- 19:29Speaker 1: York being a pro sports town, which it is. But
- 19:32Speaker 1: Cleveland has that same level of passion where they're following
- 19:34Speaker 1: their baseball team, they're following their basketball, they're following their
- 19:37Speaker 1: football team, and that's their identity. That's what they do.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Like I'm a Cleveland fan. I love the Guardians, I
- 19:43Speaker 1: love the Browns, I love the Cavaliers. And that's the passion.
- 19:49Speaker 1: That's what people talk about on the street. If you're
- 19:50Speaker 1: going to go get your shoe shine at the airport,
- 19:53Speaker 1: that's what the shoeshine guy is going to be talking
- 19:54Speaker 1: to your They live and breathe pro sports. And when
- 19:59Speaker 1: Lebron was there, obviously he's the biggest athlete in the
- 20:02Speaker 1: world probably at that time, and we were the center
- 20:05Speaker 1: of the athletic world because the stuff he was doing
- 20:08Speaker 1: was remarkable and the fans were coming from all over
- 20:11Speaker 1: the country to watch him play. It was awesome. It
- 20:14Speaker 1: was really really cool. You have a chance to meet him,
- 20:16Speaker 1: I did, Yeah, I got him a few times. He
- 20:18Speaker 1: was a super nice guy and he grew up in Akron,
- 20:22Speaker 1: but he was a Cowboys fan, but he still had
- 20:25Speaker 1: love for the Browns, which is really cool. So like
- 20:27Speaker 1: even though he would come to like we played the
- 20:29Speaker 1: Cowboys in my second season, and he had all Cowboys
- 20:32Speaker 1: stuff on, you know, but he still had a lot
- 20:34Speaker 1: of love for the local team and the other players.
- 20:36Speaker 1: And I felt, even though he was such a superstar,
- 20:39Speaker 1: he showed a lot of respect, which he didn't have
- 20:41Speaker 1: to because he's better than all of us, had everything
- 20:44Speaker 1: he does, but he showed a lot of respect for
- 20:46Speaker 1: common athletes and like what you go through and the
- 20:48Speaker 1: perseverance and the stresses, and I always thought that was
- 20:51Speaker 1: really neat.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Yeah, game day, we all have OCD. We all have
- 20:57Speaker 2: our routines and what we want to do. I have
- 21:00Speaker 2: my rituals and my OCD on game day. By you
- 21:04Speaker 2: were eleventh year, it was taking you four hours or
- 21:07Speaker 2: four hours to get ready for pregame. What the hell
- 21:11Speaker 2: is a pregame ritual for you?
- 21:14Speaker 1: A lot of it was in the training room with
- 21:16Speaker 1: the trainers, like trying to find enough duct tape and
- 21:19Speaker 1: band aids to put me together. I mean I was
- 21:22Speaker 1: wearing like two back braces, but before you could even
- 21:25Speaker 1: put the back braces on, you got to put the
- 21:26Speaker 1: back plaster on. Before you can put the back plaster on,
- 21:29Speaker 1: you gotta get the massage and the their gun and
- 21:31Speaker 1: got to get in the hot tub. So it was
- 21:33Speaker 1: just a matter of getting the body warmed up and
- 21:35Speaker 1: then putting the protective pieces of equipment in place, like
- 21:38Speaker 1: in that order that makes sense. And then you know,
- 21:40Speaker 1: still got knee braces and knee leaves. And I was
- 21:43Speaker 1: a guy that was super anal about everything, and so
- 21:46Speaker 1: I would take my wrists, take my gloves and my wrists,
- 21:48Speaker 1: put my thumb guards on there, take.
- 21:50Speaker 3: The risk first. What's that would you do? Like a
- 21:53Speaker 3: risk first?
- 21:54Speaker 1: That left first, so my right was free right in
- 21:57Speaker 1: case I needed to do anything. But like with my shoes,
- 21:59Speaker 1: I would spray that QDA, the quick drying adhesive on
- 22:03Speaker 1: the bottom of my feet, and then I put my
- 22:05Speaker 1: socks on. I'd spray my calves so my socks wouldn't
- 22:08Speaker 1: slide down. I'd spray the bottom of my socks so
- 22:10Speaker 1: they wouldn't slide in my shoes. Like, I was anal
- 22:14Speaker 1: to the max, so I had a lot of things
- 22:15Speaker 1: that I was trying to put together. And I was
- 22:18Speaker 1: a guy that saw a lot of time in the
- 22:20Speaker 1: training room before the game started.
- 22:22Speaker 2: I know you sprayed the socks.
- 22:23Speaker 1: If you would have tried it, you would have been
- 22:24Speaker 1: a believer. I don't even know who taught me that.
- 22:27Speaker 1: I feel bad not given the proper sources the sighting,
- 22:30Speaker 1: but it made such a difference because the worst thing,
- 22:33Speaker 1: especially playing in like a hot game, is when your
- 22:35Speaker 1: socks get wet and your shoes get wet and then
- 22:37Speaker 1: your feet start sliding, even just a little bit, it
- 22:39Speaker 1: just throws you off. And I hated that.
- 22:41Speaker 3: So at what point, when you're going through this process,
- 22:44Speaker 3: you're like, all right, they I think this is a lot.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Did you ever even think like, you know what, man,
- 22:50Speaker 2: like I'm doing too much.
- 22:52Speaker 1: I don't know what to take away? What do I
- 22:53Speaker 1: not do? Like my shoes and I slide and get
- 22:57Speaker 1: yeah right, And you know I was okay. I didn't
- 22:59Speaker 1: have anything else going on on Sunday, Nay.
- 23:01Speaker 3: What did you enjoy more? Run blocking or pass blocking?
- 23:06Speaker 1: Run blocking is a lot more fun, but since we
- 23:09Speaker 1: were losing a lot, I got a lot more comfortable
- 23:12Speaker 1: pass blocking all the time. I mean that's why I
- 23:14Speaker 1: had almost what almost seventy percent of my plays were passes.
- 23:19Speaker 1: And so when you do something over and over and
- 23:21Speaker 1: over and over again, like you get pretty good at it,
- 23:23Speaker 1: you get pretty comfortable. And being that as linemen, we
- 23:26Speaker 1: get paid the pass block like I enjoyed run blocking more,
- 23:30Speaker 1: of course, but I realized that I was going to
- 23:32Speaker 1: get paid for my pass blocking.
- 23:34Speaker 3: What is your opinion on like jump sets, like jump
- 23:37Speaker 3: setting as an offensive tackle, Like they don't.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Explain what a jump set is.
- 23:40Speaker 3: Jump sets like they kind of fire out like it's
- 23:42Speaker 3: a run, and you kind of it's just throwing off
- 23:44Speaker 3: the timing, so you're not always feel like the old
- 23:47Speaker 3: lineman always on the defense, they're always just kicking back,
- 23:50Speaker 3: and I just feel like you get a full speed
- 23:52Speaker 3: start all the time if you're at defensive end or
- 23:55Speaker 3: edge player, and sometimes it's just I feel like it
- 23:58Speaker 3: just throws the timing off of a defensive lineman if
- 24:00Speaker 3: you kind of jump set them every now and then.
- 24:02Speaker 3: What was your opinion on that? Yeah?
- 24:03Speaker 1: Absolutely, I mean I wanted the biggest tool belt in
- 24:06Speaker 1: the game. I wanted to be able to do everything
- 24:08Speaker 1: right because if you're going against a guy who's got
- 24:11Speaker 1: a really good inside move, like I'm going against Miles here,
- 24:13Speaker 1: let's say like I'm probably not going to jump them
- 24:15Speaker 1: all that much because it's like two cars coming at
- 24:19Speaker 1: each other on a back road highway, Like you're not
- 24:22Speaker 1: going fifty five now you're going one hundred and ten. Yeah,
- 24:25Speaker 1: so it's harder to react when somebody is making an
- 24:27Speaker 1: inside move if you are jump setting him. But like
- 24:30Speaker 1: you go against a guy who's a rhythm pass rusher,
- 24:33Speaker 1: he's used to taking his three or four steps, putting
- 24:35Speaker 1: his foot in the ground point of contact, and then
- 24:37Speaker 1: he's making his move. If you jump set him, you
- 24:40Speaker 1: disrupt that timing. A lot of times it's almost like
- 24:42Speaker 1: they give up and they have to restart their engine
- 24:43Speaker 1: and then never have time to get to the quarterback.
- 24:45Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, okay, so that's when you wanted. So when
- 24:47Speaker 3: you have rhythm pass rushers, yeah, a lot of times
- 24:50Speaker 3: that's when you'd use the jump set.
- 24:51Speaker 1: And then sometimes it's specific to the scheme. You know,
- 24:53Speaker 1: if you're a play action team and you're doing a
- 24:56Speaker 1: lot of play action, you're going to get more of
- 24:57Speaker 1: that if you're running more quick game, and you probably
- 24:59Speaker 1: see a lot more in college because they're doing a
- 25:02Speaker 1: lot more like just quick throws on po's stuff like
- 25:04Speaker 1: that where hey, they want you guys to get the
- 25:07Speaker 1: hands down of the defensive line, so you need to
- 25:09Speaker 1: get on them quickly because it might be just a
- 25:11Speaker 1: quick slant and if you're setting off now the defensive
- 25:14Speaker 1: line sees the quarterback stop his drop, gets his hands
- 25:17Speaker 1: in the air, knocks the ball on toughest.
- 25:20Speaker 2: D lineman to block versus the run d end or
- 25:26Speaker 2: D Lineman, just d Lineman, D lineman.
- 25:30Speaker 1: Ted Washington thankfully, Kevin Why had the same thing. He's like, dude,
- 25:38Speaker 1: nobody's four hundred ten pounds, Like, I don't know how
- 25:41Speaker 1: you move that guy. And most of it was blow
- 25:42Speaker 1: his chest, yes, blow the waist, blow the chest, and
- 25:47Speaker 1: so God would kind of hang down between his knees.
- 25:50Speaker 1: You weren't getting under that. Guys that I actually blocked.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Holod Nada would be the next guy think about, because
- 25:55Speaker 1: when you saw him on the goal line, it was
- 25:56Speaker 1: like you better run the other way or this is
- 25:58Speaker 1: not working, no matter if we got a double team
- 26:00Speaker 1: or not. He is three sixty. He gets off the
- 26:02Speaker 1: ball lightning quick, and he can put his head down
- 26:05Speaker 1: and he's way stronger than any human being in the
- 26:08Speaker 1: stadium right now.
- 26:10Speaker 2: Ted Washington was my welcome to the NFL moment. Really,
- 26:13Speaker 2: I'd love to hear that he was.
- 26:15Speaker 3: It was awful.
- 26:16Speaker 1: In Chicago.
- 26:17Speaker 2: Absolutely hated Ted Washington. We I get I get I
- 26:23Speaker 2: get hayes, I get dumped in the shower, I get
- 26:25Speaker 2: taped up.
- 26:26Speaker 3: They throw me in a coltel. Whatever. That's my haze.
- 26:29Speaker 3: I take it.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Whatever's cool.
- 26:31Speaker 2: The next day, I go in our locker room and
- 26:34Speaker 2: I had to go on our trainer equipment manager for something.
- 26:38Speaker 3: And I try to leave and I.
- 26:39Speaker 2: Was like, sorry, guys, I didn't mean to come into
- 26:40Speaker 2: you know, the vet locker room. Sorry, I'll process. I'm
- 26:42Speaker 2: gonna go to a long way. So Olin steps in
- 26:46Speaker 2: front of one of the doors and I was like, oh,
- 26:47Speaker 2: my fault, I'm gonna go the other way. So I
- 26:49Speaker 2: try to go a long way now now. So then
- 26:56Speaker 2: Big Ted walks up and he was like, hey, you're
- 26:59Speaker 2: gonna get in his laundry bend and I'm gonna push
- 27:01Speaker 2: you around and you're gonna make noises like you're driving
- 27:04Speaker 2: a car. And I was like, so, my my manhood
- 27:10Speaker 2: kicked and I was just like, man, hell no, my
- 27:13Speaker 2: pride kicked in. And then all the other vests as.
- 27:14Speaker 1: Like, hey, look, look, look, look look at you the
- 27:16Speaker 1: little rook.
- 27:17Speaker 2: So I'm just like, no, man, y'all got me yesterday, respectfully, sir,
- 27:21Speaker 2: Like I'm good, Like I'm not doing that. Y'all got
- 27:23Speaker 2: me yesterday with respect trying to be respectful. He's like,
- 27:27Speaker 2: you're gonna get your chest and launch and I'm gonna
- 27:30Speaker 2: push you around. Thomas, I kid you not. I had
- 27:32Speaker 2: to think about my life. It was like I was
- 27:34Speaker 2: cause I was finna crash. I was like, hey, I'm
- 27:36Speaker 2: a man first, but I had to swallow my pride.
- 27:38Speaker 2: I was like, I'm the new guy. I shouldn't have
- 27:41Speaker 2: come in here. So I literally get in this laundry
- 27:44Speaker 2: band and he pushes me around the locker room and
- 27:46Speaker 2: I have to make these sounds and he is like
- 27:49Speaker 2: ramming it in the walls. He's ramming it in the
- 27:52Speaker 2: lockers and everyone is laughing. It was so embarrassing. So
- 27:56Speaker 2: then he squats down and he picks up the laundry
- 28:00Speaker 2: with me in it with some clothes too, picks me
- 28:03Speaker 2: up and then he just throws it me the close
- 28:07Speaker 2: the bind We fly across the room. I rolled over
- 28:09Speaker 2: and I was like, appreciate it, big Ted, thanks, and
- 28:12Speaker 2: I go out and I went all the other rookies
- 28:14Speaker 2: and they're like, where was you at?
- 28:15Speaker 3: Fool?
- 28:15Speaker 2: I was like, man, big Ted trip it. And then I,
- 28:19Speaker 2: you know, I explained it to him, and then like
- 28:21Speaker 2: literally like the next day or a week later, he
- 28:23Speaker 2: got traded to the New England Patriots, and I was like,
- 28:27Speaker 2: thank god, I was so happy. But he went on
- 28:30Speaker 2: and he got a Super Bowl ring, so it kind
- 28:31Speaker 2: of worked out for.
- 28:32Speaker 1: I had a real brief welcome to the NFL moment
- 28:34Speaker 1: with Ted, and it was right after I got drafted.
- 28:37Speaker 1: I was there taking a tour of the building and
- 28:38Speaker 1: you know, like after you get there, you got a
- 28:40Speaker 1: scout taking around or whatever, just showing you locker room,
- 28:43Speaker 1: equipment room, whatever. And Ted's standing there at the door
- 28:46Speaker 1: to the locker room and I was like, oh, I'm
- 28:49Speaker 1: trying to be nicely. Hey, nice to meet you. I'm Joe.
- 28:52Speaker 1: And he looked at me like this. He was like,
- 28:54Speaker 1: don't touch me, rookie, and I just kept walking. I was.
- 28:59Speaker 2: Sorry, I'm surprised you even talk to you.
- 29:02Speaker 3: We had on our team.
- 29:03Speaker 2: He'd be like, Hey, tell the rookie Joe that he
- 29:06Speaker 2: needs to go get some whatever. And then the ve black, Hey,
- 29:12Speaker 2: rook Ted said you need to go do it, and
- 29:14Speaker 2: you'd be like right there. But Ted would not talk
- 29:17Speaker 2: to you for a whole year. He just would not
- 29:21Speaker 2: talk to you, and he was just like, like, I
- 29:23Speaker 2: was so happy when.
- 29:24Speaker 3: They get this is like old school too, like he
- 29:26Speaker 3: was he was an old school Yeah, yeah, an old
- 29:30Speaker 3: school Vets And when we came in, it was probably
- 29:32Speaker 3: more guys that were like, you know, ten eleven twelve
- 29:35Speaker 3: year guys that have been in the NFL versus now
- 29:38Speaker 3: you don't have as many ten twelve year guys just
- 29:41Speaker 3: in locker rooms that were around or raised by ten
- 29:45Speaker 3: twelve fourteen year guys. So that part of it is
- 29:48Speaker 3: just completely different, and it's pretty entertaining. I mean, that
- 29:51Speaker 3: was a good story. Peenis was it was Ted Washing.
- 29:54Speaker 2: I ain't seen a minute, but again, Ted, you got
- 29:57Speaker 2: me Ted, it was I respect it.
- 29:59Speaker 3: I respect I read another article and you talked about
- 30:03Speaker 3: how important it is for offensive alignment to have ankle mobility.
- 30:08Speaker 3: Cause you explain why that's so important for the offensive
- 30:10Speaker 3: lignment position.
- 30:12Speaker 1: So a lot of people think knees hips that's where
- 30:16Speaker 1: you need to bend, but really, as alignment, to be
- 30:18Speaker 1: able to create force through the ground, you got to
- 30:20Speaker 1: have your heel in the ground. Yeah, like you're squatting, right,
- 30:23Speaker 1: you don't squat on your toes otherwise. Now, or when
- 30:25Speaker 1: you're running, Like, if your ankles are tight and they're
- 30:29Speaker 1: flexed right, they don't absorb that energy and you're able
- 30:32Speaker 1: to spring off of them. So if your heels are
- 30:34Speaker 1: in the ground and you're able to bend your ankles,
- 30:37Speaker 1: the further you can get your knee over your toe
- 30:39Speaker 1: is the more power you're able to create. And that's
- 30:43Speaker 1: the most important thing as an offensive alignment. Be able
- 30:46Speaker 1: to create that power, that starting strength that you got
- 30:48Speaker 1: to have, and then as you're past protecting, being able
- 30:52Speaker 1: to stick your heels in the ground, take a stand
- 30:54Speaker 1: when you're being bull rushed, and then having that mobility
- 30:57Speaker 1: in your ankles to be lower than the that's trying
- 31:00Speaker 1: to beat you.
- 31:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:01Speaker 2: Okay, So let's own a transition this conversation into the
- 31:05Speaker 2: second act. Hands how we got the name info Player
- 31:08Speaker 2: second X podcast. So have this amazing career, Hall of
- 31:12Speaker 2: Fame career comes to an end, you have the transition
- 31:15Speaker 2: you do something else outside of football.
- 31:18Speaker 3: How did you.
- 31:19Speaker 2: Get into the farming space?
- 31:21Speaker 1: Like?
- 31:21Speaker 2: Where did that?
- 31:22Speaker 3: Where did that come from?
- 31:23Speaker 1: Not exactly sure. I grew up in Brookfield, Wisconsin, which
- 31:26Speaker 1: is a suburb of Milwaukee. I drove past farms, but
- 31:30Speaker 1: it was never a farmer. And I had grandparents great
- 31:33Speaker 1: grandparents that were on the farm, but like no direct
- 31:37Speaker 1: relative that was a farmer. But I was always a
- 31:39Speaker 1: country boy. I grew up getting dirty and going fishing
- 31:42Speaker 1: and hunting and camping with my family. That's just kind
- 31:44Speaker 1: of what we did. So I always dreamed of owning
- 31:47Speaker 1: a piece of land that I could take the family
- 31:49Speaker 1: and friends too someday and make memories. Go camp, go fish,
- 31:52Speaker 1: go hunt, do those things. So in twenty twelve I
- 31:54Speaker 1: bought a farm and then we were raising cash crop.
- 31:58Speaker 1: But that's not crazy because I wasn't the one riding
- 32:00Speaker 1: the tractor. I'd hired that out.
- 32:02Speaker 2: When you bought this farm or the land, Oh how
- 32:05Speaker 2: big is the land?
- 32:06Speaker 3: How much land do you have?
- 32:07Speaker 1: That's a personal question. Okay, big enough to get lost, Okay,
- 32:11Speaker 1: big enough to get lost.
- 32:12Speaker 2: But is everything already done or you just you have
- 32:16Speaker 2: to Like you bought the farm from another person. Is
- 32:18Speaker 2: everything kind of set up for you already? Or do
- 32:20Speaker 2: you have this like star from scratch.
- 32:21Speaker 1: It's it's set up, But there's always a ton of
- 32:24Speaker 1: stuff you want to do, Like you move into somebody's house,
- 32:26Speaker 1: like you're thinking about I'd like to change this reatt
- 32:28Speaker 1: that they rip out the shrubs here and do things
- 32:31Speaker 1: like that. So I always liked working on the farm
- 32:34Speaker 1: and like getting dirty. And I've been buying all the
- 32:36Speaker 1: equipment to skidloaders and the excavators and the tractors and
- 32:39Speaker 1: stuff because I always wanted to be able to do
- 32:41Speaker 1: that myself. Yeah, but when I bought it, I was
- 32:43Speaker 1: in the middle of a plane in the NFL still,
- 32:45Speaker 1: so I didn't have that time.
- 32:46Speaker 3: To do it.
- 32:46Speaker 1: So we hired a lot of that out. So it
- 32:48Speaker 1: wasn't until twenty eighteen that I ended up getting into
- 32:51Speaker 1: cattle and on the advice of my children and my
- 32:55Speaker 1: wife who said, Daddy, wouldn't it be fun if we
- 32:57Speaker 1: have pet cows at the farm. And I was like,
- 32:59Speaker 1: oh my god, how am I going to have time
- 33:01Speaker 1: for this. I don't know anything about raising cattle. But
- 33:04Speaker 1: then I was like, Okay, I love to eat beef.
- 33:07Speaker 1: I can't eat my other pets. So these are a
- 33:10Speaker 1: great option for getting the kids more pets because I'm
- 33:13Speaker 1: going to make them happy. We're going to get some
- 33:15Speaker 1: cows out in the farm, and then at the end
- 33:17Speaker 1: of the day, we're gonna have some delicious beef that
- 33:19Speaker 1: we know how it was raised, we know what it ate,
- 33:21Speaker 1: and I know that this is probably the healthiest, most
- 33:23Speaker 1: nutritious beef that I could possibly feed family and friends.
- 33:26Speaker 1: So I was all on board and kind of took
- 33:28Speaker 1: off from there.
- 33:31Speaker 3: And you brought up something you talked about fishing, And
- 33:34Speaker 3: I want to know this because I've never got to
- 33:35Speaker 3: sit down and talk to you, but you had one
- 33:37Speaker 3: of the coolest draft, Like you were one of the
- 33:39Speaker 3: first guys that like like you were fishing when you
- 33:42Speaker 3: got the call. Like I remember this very vividly, like
- 33:46Speaker 3: watching your draft process and you're like fishing, like knowing
- 33:51Speaker 3: that you were going to be Why did you decide
- 33:53Speaker 3: that that's what you were going to do, knowing that
- 33:55Speaker 3: you're probably going to get called very early?
- 33:57Speaker 1: Well, because my dad and I would go fishing every
- 34:00Speaker 1: Saturday morning as a kid growing up. We'd go out
- 34:02Speaker 1: in Lake Michigan and go salm and fishing, wake up
- 34:04Speaker 1: at like three am, and get out in the water
- 34:06Speaker 1: by five. And that was our tradition. That's what we did,
- 34:09Speaker 1: that's what I love to do. And this was back
- 34:11Speaker 1: when the draft was just two days and start Saturday morning,
- 34:14Speaker 1: and so my agent told me like, hey, you know,
- 34:19Speaker 1: the NFL wants you to come to the draft in
- 34:21Speaker 1: New York, and I respectfully told them, but I'm going
- 34:24Speaker 1: to be fishing with my dad, so it's going to
- 34:25Speaker 1: be hard to be in two places at one time.
- 34:28Speaker 1: And I really never wavered from that because the draft
- 34:31Speaker 1: was starting to become a big deal, but they still
- 34:33Speaker 1: only invited five guys at the time, And for me,
- 34:37Speaker 1: I was not a flashy guy looking to buy a
- 34:39Speaker 1: new suit and go to the draft. Like I didn't
- 34:41Speaker 1: have dreams as a kid of the moment of me
- 34:43Speaker 1: being on stage being drafted, Like I dreamed of playing
- 34:46Speaker 1: in the NFL, like a lot of kids would play football.
- 34:48Speaker 1: But to me, that wasn't the game. That wasn't my goal.
- 34:50Speaker 1: That was just finding the answers to the test, finding
- 34:53Speaker 1: out how you did, and then figure out where's my
- 34:56Speaker 1: next team going to be. So it wasn't an event
- 34:59Speaker 1: for me that I've all always wanted to be at
- 35:01Speaker 1: and I'd much rather go fishing with my dad.
- 35:03Speaker 3: So you talked about a dream to play in the NFL.
- 35:05Speaker 3: Was it a dream to be beyond just being in
- 35:08Speaker 3: the NFL? And what was that dream?
- 35:11Speaker 1: So I went to school for business. I was in
- 35:13Speaker 1: the real estate program at Wisconsin, and so I kind
- 35:17Speaker 1: of always thought that I maybe played college football after
- 35:20Speaker 1: I was already there, and then go work in commercial
- 35:23Speaker 1: real estate or some type of business. I didn't really
- 35:25Speaker 1: have a concrete idea exactly what I wanted to do,
- 35:29Speaker 1: but I was always getting ready for that moment because
- 35:32Speaker 1: I never looked too far into the future and thought, oh, yeah,
- 35:34Speaker 1: I'm going to play in the NFL. I don't have
- 35:36Speaker 1: to worry about this stuff. When I was in college,
- 35:38Speaker 1: I just loved being in Madison. I mean, it was
- 35:39Speaker 1: a number one party school a few times when I
- 35:41Speaker 1: was there, and I had great friends, great teammates. I
- 35:44Speaker 1: love playing for the Badgers. I was in Madison. We
- 35:47Speaker 1: got lakes all over the place, so I'd go fishing
- 35:49Speaker 1: on my days off, and I just really loved where
- 35:52Speaker 1: I was, and so I never really thought too far
- 35:54Speaker 1: down the line about you know, what's next. And it
- 35:57Speaker 1: really wasn't even until the end of my junior year
- 36:00Speaker 1: when scouts started asking me if I was gonna come
- 36:02Speaker 1: out for the NFL draft, until I realized, like, oh man,
- 36:06Speaker 1: I might have an ability to keep doing this thing
- 36:08Speaker 1: for a little while.
- 36:09Speaker 2: It was kind of his story by him telling me
- 36:12Speaker 2: that reminds me of you when we were talking one day.
- 36:15Speaker 2: My story is I always wanted to play in the NFL,
- 36:17Speaker 2: Like I thought about it all the time. I knew
- 36:19Speaker 2: I was gonna get drafted. I worked so hard for it.
- 36:21Speaker 2: Freshman sophomore, took these classes like I had a plan.
- 36:25Speaker 2: I'd set out a goal if in order to get drafted,
- 36:29Speaker 2: here's what the things and steps that I have to do.
- 36:32Speaker 2: You and I were talking one day, and you go, man,
- 36:34Speaker 2: it wasn't until I was.
- 36:36Speaker 3: Going to my senior senior year.
- 36:38Speaker 2: I was on All American and we went to it
- 36:40Speaker 2: was a playball All America and then you read a
- 36:42Speaker 2: stat or you read a little blurb of one of
- 36:44Speaker 2: the scouts. It was like, oh, yeah, Roome blah blah blah,
- 36:47Speaker 2: he could be a second round pick, and you were like, damn,
- 36:51Speaker 2: I could probably play it.
- 36:53Speaker 3: I was like you, I was just enjoying my college lifestyle.
- 36:56Speaker 3: I was just doing my thing.
- 36:58Speaker 2: And I think that to me that that's crazy to
- 37:01Speaker 2: think to not think that you two were as good
- 37:04Speaker 2: as you were at the respective schools that you went to.
- 37:08Speaker 2: And I went to a I don't want to say
- 37:09Speaker 2: a terrible school, but we just didn't have a really
- 37:12Speaker 2: good program at the time, and that was the only
- 37:14Speaker 2: thing I thought about, was just like leaving school and
- 37:17Speaker 2: making it to the league and y'all had resources and
- 37:21Speaker 2: equipment and I mean y'all, just y'all had really good
- 37:24Speaker 2: programs and facilities. But it was just like, no, I
- 37:27Speaker 2: just I'm enjoying my time and I like where I
- 37:29Speaker 2: am and it's it's a good space, and like I
- 37:32Speaker 2: just couldn't. Yeah, just I'm it's weird, weird to me.
- 37:37Speaker 1: For me, I was always like, no matter what happens next,
- 37:40Speaker 1: it's not going to change what I'm doing today, Like
- 37:43Speaker 1: I'm still going to go out and practice as hard
- 37:45Speaker 1: as I can, train as hard as I can. Like
- 37:47Speaker 1: it's different maybe now in the NIL space where you
- 37:50Speaker 1: need agents and you need people to contract advisors and
- 37:53Speaker 1: things like that. Back then, it was like I don't
- 37:55Speaker 1: even want to talk to any agents, Like I just
- 37:56Speaker 1: want to play as well as I can right now,
- 37:58Speaker 1: enjoy it, and then we'll see what happens when it's
- 38:00Speaker 1: all said and done. But if I worry about what's
- 38:02Speaker 1: happening two three years from now, it might affect what
- 38:05Speaker 1: I'm doing right now, and I'm not going to focus
- 38:06Speaker 1: on being the best team at the night right right.
- 38:08Speaker 2: So one of the things that you and I have
- 38:10Speaker 2: in common, you had one winning season your entire time
- 38:15Speaker 2: in Cleveland. You came from a winning program at Wisconsin
- 38:19Speaker 2: or Wisconsin. Yeah, you have a winning season. You know
- 38:25Speaker 2: what a successful winning program looks like. And then you
- 38:28Speaker 2: come to Cleveland and then it's just lost after loss
- 38:32Speaker 2: after loss. How mentally tough was it to stay engaged
- 38:37Speaker 2: and still perform at a high level while still having.
- 38:40Speaker 1: A looking season. It's weird as a alignment, maybe similar
- 38:43Speaker 1: to being a dB that like, it doesn't really matter
- 38:46Speaker 1: what the score is. It doesn't really matter what your
- 38:49Speaker 1: record is. Like, I got to block that guy that
- 38:51Speaker 1: Terrell Suggs over there that wants to rip my quarterback
- 38:53Speaker 1: in half. I better help my buddy out back there,
- 38:56Speaker 1: because it's gonna get really ugly. And so I never
- 38:59Speaker 1: really looked at the score. Losing sucks, Don't get me wrong.
- 39:02Speaker 1: It was really really tough to be on all those
- 39:05Speaker 1: losing teams and to be in the game in the
- 39:07Speaker 1: fourth quarter when you're down by twenty and you're thinking
- 39:09Speaker 1: about situations like Okay, well we're in the two minute
- 39:12Speaker 1: drill for the last part of the game all fourth quarter.
- 39:15Speaker 1: But it was in my mind it was like, all right,
- 39:17Speaker 1: how do I handle this situation. I was always trying
- 39:19Speaker 1: to think about it like that rather than thinking about, oh, man,
- 39:22Speaker 1: doesn't this suck. I can't believe we're losing again. But
- 39:25Speaker 1: it did wear on me quite a bit, especially towards
- 39:27Speaker 1: the end, because we were kind of making a run
- 39:30Speaker 1: in the middle of my career when Brian Hoyer was
- 39:32Speaker 1: our quarterback, Kyle Shannon was our offensive coordinator. We went
- 39:34Speaker 1: seven and nine, we were in the playoff mix for
- 39:37Speaker 1: a little while, and then after that we just had
- 39:40Speaker 1: even worse season after worst season, and you saw that
- 39:44Speaker 1: I was getting close to ten eleven years in the NFL.
- 39:47Speaker 1: Looking at the roster, I don't think we're going to
- 39:50Speaker 1: do it, you know, And that one really kind of
- 39:53Speaker 1: wore on you, because as a competitor, I think you're
- 39:55Speaker 1: always convincing yourself, this is how we're going to win
- 39:58Speaker 1: this game. Yeah, right, You're going in that game with
- 40:00Speaker 1: confidence because that's how you have to be to get
- 40:02Speaker 1: the most out of yourself. We're gonna win the season.
- 40:04Speaker 1: That's why you trained so hard in the off season, right,
- 40:06Speaker 1: and so when you constantly are fooling yourself like that,
- 40:09Speaker 1: it wears on you after a while.
- 40:11Speaker 3: Did you ever think about not being in Cleveland?
- 40:15Speaker 1: I never did. There was a couple of times. There's
- 40:19Speaker 1: a couple of times when teams had inquired about trading
- 40:22Speaker 1: for me, and there was rumors in the media. The
- 40:25Speaker 1: year the Broncos won the Super Bowl, Peyton Manning loss
- 40:29Speaker 1: has left tackle Ryan Clady, who was a Pro Bowler,
- 40:32Speaker 1: and everybody in Denver knew that they were Super Bowl contenders,
- 40:35Speaker 1: and so they were really trying hard. They almost had
- 40:37Speaker 1: a deal done right before the trade deadline to trade
- 40:40Speaker 1: for me. But I always loved Cleveland. I always felt
- 40:43Speaker 1: like I was a Cleveland or you know, my three
- 40:45Speaker 1: of my four kids are born there. It's the Midwest.
- 40:48Speaker 1: My dad's family's all from Ohio, and as soon as
- 40:51Speaker 1: I got there, like I mentioned, like, it just felt
- 40:53Speaker 1: like home to me. And I really wanted to always
- 40:55Speaker 1: be part of the turnaround because I thought that story
- 40:57Speaker 1: would be so special.
- 40:58Speaker 2: Did you because it kind of sounds like me I was.
- 41:02Speaker 2: I was born in Chicago, got drafted by Chicago all
- 41:05Speaker 2: my family and friends. I was born, you know, ten
- 41:08Speaker 2: minutes from the stadium. They all my relatives, They still
- 41:11Speaker 2: all my aunties, kem folks, they all still live in
- 41:13Speaker 2: the city. I played my twelve years. But I was
- 41:18Speaker 2: scared to leave because I got so comfortable. And then
- 41:22Speaker 2: when I finally went to clear excuse me, I finally
- 41:24Speaker 2: went to Charlotte, it was like a breath of fresh air,
- 41:28Speaker 2: and it was just like, man, I should have left
- 41:31Speaker 2: two years ago. I shouldn't have re upped. I should
- 41:34Speaker 2: have just hit free agency and just but and I
- 41:36Speaker 2: know we didn't have a good team, and I knew
- 41:38Speaker 2: we were in the rebuilt phase. But I was such
- 41:41Speaker 2: a staple guy and I just was I personally was scared.
- 41:44Speaker 2: I was comfortable. Do you think you were just too
- 41:47Speaker 2: comfortable and just didn't want to go.
- 41:49Speaker 1: I'm sure that feeling comfortable is maybe part of it,
- 41:53Speaker 1: because feeling comfortable playing really high level football, like that's
- 41:57Speaker 1: what you want to do as a lineman. But also
- 42:00Speaker 1: I just felt a deep connection to the organization, and
- 42:03Speaker 1: I felt that I was like a servant to the
- 42:06Speaker 1: organization a little bit, where I want this thing to
- 42:09Speaker 1: turn around because it would mean so much to these people,
- 42:11Speaker 1: to these fans who I felt like had given me
- 42:13Speaker 1: a lot, and same thing with the organization. And so
- 42:16Speaker 1: even at the end, even like the last year year
- 42:18Speaker 1: and a half, when I just knew we weren't very good,
- 42:21Speaker 1: I put the perspective in my mind, like I can
- 42:23Speaker 1: be here helping these young dudes that maybe can be
- 42:26Speaker 1: the team that turns it around and wins a championship.
- 42:28Speaker 1: So that was sort of my motivation there right at
- 42:31Speaker 1: the end. I mean, we drafted Miles Garrett number one
- 42:33Speaker 1: overall my last season, and it was like, Okay, how
- 42:35Speaker 1: can I help him become the greatest defensive end in football?
- 42:39Speaker 1: How can I help Joel Botonio, who's my left guard?
- 42:41Speaker 1: How can I help David and Joku who is our
- 42:44Speaker 1: rookie tight end? Like I was thinking about, how can
- 42:47Speaker 1: I help those guys and build a foundation with culture,
- 42:50Speaker 1: with attitude, with leadership and showing these guys the right
- 42:53Speaker 1: way to be a professional that maybe then they're the
- 42:56Speaker 1: group turns it around, and then I can feel good
- 42:59Speaker 1: in my own little way like when they do win
- 43:01Speaker 1: it all, when they do turn it around, that I
- 43:03Speaker 1: was there in the beginning, made you made that your
- 43:06Speaker 1: mission exactly. I want to talk about you about your media. Yeah,
- 43:13Speaker 1: so you retire, you go straight into.
- 43:16Speaker 3: It, Like how was that transition, how did that happen
- 43:20Speaker 3: so fast? And ultimately how much did you like or
- 43:23Speaker 3: love it or hate it.
- 43:24Speaker 1: It's a little like the story of me getting into
- 43:26Speaker 1: my farm and Six Springs Farms. Like I didn't really
- 43:30Speaker 1: ever set out to be in the media. Yeah, most
- 43:33Speaker 1: people don't be a farmer. Yeah, it kind of found
- 43:36Speaker 1: me because when I retired, I didn't really have a
- 43:38Speaker 1: clear idea of what I wanted to do. I knew
- 43:41Speaker 1: I had a lot of interest and passions, but you're
- 43:44Speaker 1: not putting anything into all those when you're playing, because
- 43:47Speaker 1: you're putting every bit of energy that you have into
- 43:49Speaker 1: your job into being a great professional football player. But
- 43:54Speaker 1: my agent, Peter Schaeffer at the time kind of really
- 43:56Speaker 1: pushed me and encouraged me and said, hey, you know what,
- 43:58Speaker 1: I've got a lot of me outlets that are asking
- 44:01Speaker 1: for you to just come out an audition, like there's
- 44:03Speaker 1: no pressure, just go out, do a couple of shows
- 44:05Speaker 1: and just see if you like it. And he always
- 44:09Speaker 1: gave me really good advice throughout my career. I had
- 44:11Speaker 1: a lot of trust in his opinion on things, and
- 44:13Speaker 1: so I was like, I might as well at least
- 44:15Speaker 1: go out there and take a few auditions and see
- 44:17Speaker 1: if I like because how do I know if I
- 44:19Speaker 1: like or I don't like something unless I try it. Yeah,
- 44:22Speaker 1: I like that? Did you like it? I did? Actually,
- 44:25Speaker 1: you know, I really enjoyed it because I realized, like,
- 44:27Speaker 1: as soon as I retired and I was away from
- 44:28Speaker 1: the game, how much I love football, Which is kind
- 44:31Speaker 1: of weird because when you're doing it, it's just such
- 44:33Speaker 1: a grind. Every day is exactly the same, and you're
- 44:35Speaker 1: you get in your routine and you're just grumpy a lot,
- 44:38Speaker 1: especially you get older. But like it's comfortable. Yeah I'm
- 44:41Speaker 1: grumpy and I'm comfortable. Just what you do, just how
- 44:44Speaker 1: you do it. That's how you get it done. It's
- 44:46Speaker 1: how you go out and practice and be the best
- 44:48Speaker 1: version of yourself. But as soon as you're away from
- 44:51Speaker 1: the game, you're like, man, I need football as a
- 44:53Speaker 1: part of my life. Yes, I know coaching is not
- 44:55Speaker 1: the answer because I want to have a little balance
- 44:57Speaker 1: between work and life. I got these young kids, I
- 44:59Speaker 1: got a farm, I got a lot of things I
- 45:01Speaker 1: like to do, So how do I stay around the game?
- 45:04Speaker 1: How do I still get an excuse to leave the
- 45:07Speaker 1: family and go watch a game on the sideline? Yea,
- 45:10Speaker 1: and media was the perfect outlet for that.
- 45:13Speaker 3: It is. I just like it because it allows us
- 45:16Speaker 3: to love the game, but it doesn't control our emotions
- 45:18Speaker 3: with wins losses.
- 45:20Speaker 2: Joe Thomas has had an amazing life, completely successful on
- 45:24Speaker 2: the field off the field. If you had to pick
- 45:26Speaker 2: four people that have helped you shaped you into the
- 45:29Speaker 2: man you are today and you got your own personal
- 45:31Speaker 2: Mount Rushmore, who would those four people be.
- 45:36Speaker 1: I'd say my dad first, right. He gave me the
- 45:39Speaker 1: values that I still am trying to instill in my children,
- 45:43Speaker 1: The relationship that we had, you know, the interests that
- 45:46Speaker 1: I have being outside fishing, hunting, camping, like how to
- 45:50Speaker 1: treat my kids, my family, how I'm trying try to
- 45:55Speaker 1: be considerate and caring to the people around me, being
- 45:57Speaker 1: a servant in my community. Those are things from my dad.
- 46:01Speaker 1: George Warhop he was my offensive line coach that I
- 46:03Speaker 1: had for a long time in Cleveland. Multiple head coaches,
- 46:06Speaker 1: they always kept him because he was such a great
- 46:08Speaker 1: offensive line coach. Really taught me a lot about like discipline,
- 46:12Speaker 1: and structure and technique and the details, so I really
- 46:19Speaker 1: owe a lot to him. I'd say my son, Jack,
- 46:22Speaker 1: who has been a big part of just who I'm
- 46:26Speaker 1: trying to become and trying to be as a father
- 46:28Speaker 1: and making sure that I can give him the same
- 46:30Speaker 1: type of upbringing that my dad gave to me. So
- 46:35Speaker 1: that's three and four. I'd have to say my wife.
- 46:38Speaker 1: I don't know if that's a legal answer. She was
- 46:44Speaker 1: definitely my rock when I was playing, and she was
- 46:46Speaker 1: the person that I leaned on when I was struggling
- 46:49Speaker 1: mentally with the losses and the feelings sometimes of hopelessness
- 46:54Speaker 1: that you get when you're on a team that's not
- 46:56Speaker 1: doing very well. And she's also been a good balance
- 46:59Speaker 1: when I'm like, go, go go, let's go, let's do this,
- 47:01Speaker 1: let's do this, like I'm gonna take this job and
- 47:03Speaker 1: take that job, and I'm gonna travel all over the
- 47:05Speaker 1: place like doing media, and she's like, Hey, you're retired now.
- 47:10Speaker 1: Your kids and your family they should be the priority.
- 47:12Speaker 1: So make sure that you cut out plenty of time
- 47:14Speaker 1: for them, because when you were playing, you didn't have
- 47:17Speaker 1: that time to be able to spend with the family,
- 47:20Speaker 1: and so make sure you do that right now and
- 47:22Speaker 1: you don't over commit yourself to other things.
- 47:24Speaker 3: Joe, what you brought up your wife and I love that.
- 47:28Speaker 3: I want to know one piece of advice that she
- 47:30Speaker 3: did give you that sticks with you when you were
- 47:33Speaker 3: struggling with some of the mental stuff and things of
- 47:35Speaker 3: that nature.
- 47:37Speaker 1: She was really the one person that would say, hey,
- 47:40Speaker 1: just talk to me about it. I don't have to
- 47:42Speaker 1: solve your problems because I'm the problem solver. Like if
- 47:45Speaker 1: she's got problems, she comes to me. She doesn't like
- 47:46Speaker 1: that because I'm like, all right, let's fix this. All right,
- 47:48Speaker 1: this is what we're gonna do that.
- 47:49Speaker 3: They don't want that.
- 47:50Speaker 1: Yeah, And so she saw she saw that I was
- 47:53Speaker 1: the guy that was always trying to fix it and
- 47:55Speaker 1: in this situation, it's not fixable. And maybe I needed
- 47:58Speaker 1: to take her perspective sometimes on the problem of hey,
- 48:00Speaker 1: just talk to me, Just allow the emotions to come out,
- 48:04Speaker 1: tell me why it's making you feel that way, and
- 48:06Speaker 1: then we don't have to say anything else. When it's
- 48:08Speaker 1: all over, you're gona feel a lot better about it.
- 48:10Speaker 1: And so just having that person that was always that
- 48:13Speaker 1: that rock when you felt like you were sort of
- 48:14Speaker 1: crumbling inside was really really important.
- 48:17Speaker 3: That's all I like it. I like that.
- 48:18Speaker 2: Woy Joe, You're off the hot seat, baby, that's it.
- 48:21Speaker 2: It wasn't too hot for he was.
- 48:23Speaker 1: It wasn't too bad. I can survive that. We're going
- 48:25Speaker 1: to get some of that the Hall of Fame beef.
- 48:27Speaker 1: They don't have to get you guys some because we
- 48:29Speaker 1: raised one full blood Japanese Woggi beef.
- 48:33Speaker 3: Nice.
- 48:33Speaker 1: We raise American waggu that's like the A five stuff
- 48:35Speaker 1: you pay like, yeah, fifty bucks an ounce for like
- 48:38Speaker 1: at the Vegas steakhouses. Yeah yeah uh. And then we
- 48:40Speaker 1: raise certified angus. So we raised some awesome, awesome, high
- 48:44Speaker 1: quality animals and beef sticks jerky for the kids, Like yes,
- 48:48Speaker 1: they go bananas. My wife puts them in their lunches
- 48:50Speaker 1: and that's a good snack because it's so hard to
- 48:52Speaker 1: get kids eat protein. That's what I've found. They all
- 48:54Speaker 1: they want to do is eat chips, popcorn.
- 48:57Speaker 3: Wasted is wasted calories, wasted couch.
- 49:00Speaker 1: And the kids are all athletes, so it's like, hey,
- 49:02Speaker 1: you need protein. It's a building block of the cell.
- 49:04Speaker 1: Let's go, you know. And so we finally found that
- 49:06Speaker 1: way that we can get that protein in throughout the day,
- 49:09Speaker 1: and turns out we just had to buy them some
- 49:11Speaker 1: pet cows and then we had to eat them. I
- 49:14Speaker 1: like it. I like it.
- 49:15Speaker 3: I like I appreciate that. We appreciate you. Understand why
- 49:19Speaker 3: Pland loves you dog. I get it, bro hey man.
