Latest / Brandon Fogal Evolution / #112 - The Incredible Power of Human Will: Jeremy Renner's Journey
Transcript
- 0:00So, did you know that your human will is a lot stronger than you might at this time understand?
- 0:07Today, we are going to take a look at Jeremy Renner and the story and the recovery
- 0:13that he has gone through after being run over by a snowplow over two years ago.
- 0:20He was on the Joe Rogan podcast the other day and just broke down his whole
- 0:26story and what happened and everything that was involved.
- 0:29And it was at times very tough to listen to for me.
- 0:34Just the things that he experienced was in his recovery is nothing more than
- 0:40I would say than miraculous.
- 0:42My name is Brandon Fogel. This is Evolution. Let's dive into this.
- 0:46So on New Year's Day, 2023, Jeremy Renner was severely injured when a piston
- 0:52bully snowplow he was operating ran over him while he was trying to rescue his nephew.
- 0:58Renner broke over 30 bones and suffered other life-threatening injuries.
- 1:03He has since shared details of the accident and his recovery in his memoir, My Next Breath.
- 1:09So he went on Joe Rogan's podcast and they, I had not seen him for a while.
- 1:14I remember seeing the post of when this happened, when he, that right after
- 1:18it happened to him in the, in the hospital room and pictures taken.
- 1:22And, and when somebody is not in front of you, you tend to like,
- 1:27you know, you don't see him.
- 1:28You only see him when you're, when you go see their movies and everything,
- 1:31but to have him come back and he, he looks like he never experienced anything.
- 1:36It looks like he never went through what he actually went through. It it's incredible.
- 1:42And it gets into some very gory details when he's talking to Joe and just telling
- 1:47him about everything that happened.
- 1:49And Joe starts it off with, man, I'm reading through your book and man,
- 1:52it's given me such anxiety.
- 1:54But Jeremy says, but the relief on the anxiety is I'm standing before you right here.
- 2:01I'm here now, you know, so you know the outcome is good.
- 2:04And I haven't listened to the entire podcast, but so far he attributes a lot
- 2:11of it to his, the human will.
- 2:13And he does say that it was miraculous. And it just goes to show that you do
- 2:19not know the power that you have in determining where you want to go and what you want to get done.
- 2:24You have such just strong potential in you.
- 2:29Everyone does. And it's whether you want to access it is what makes the difference
- 2:33between one person as opposed to another person.
- 2:36You know, there are things that people are just inherently born with,
- 2:40but there are some things that you might have just locked away that you might
- 2:45just need to somehow be aware that it's there and actually try to just pull it out.
- 2:53And sometimes it takes going through something as incredible as what Jeremy
- 2:57went through for him to see this.
- 2:59And because, I mean, a lot of times you don't really want to go through terrible
- 3:03things. We like to be comfortable.
- 3:06We like when things are going good. We don't want adversity.
- 3:09And in this clip we're going to look at, he talks about one of his biggest struggles
- 3:14was getting off the medication that he had to have going through what he went through.
- 3:21And then also he talks about cold plunging. You know, you got to put yourself
- 3:25in tough things so that you come out stronger, you know?
- 3:29We always want to find what is the easiest way. how can I skate through life?
- 3:34How can I not put myself in terrible circumstances?
- 3:38And maybe you don't naturally want to do that, but it's the only way that's
- 3:43going to test your limits.
- 3:45And then when something like this comes along, that is when you were like just
- 3:49compelled and you're thrown into it.
- 3:51But it at least shows you how much power you have inside you just by the sheer
- 3:56will that you have. Everyone's got it.
- 3:59Some more than others. And I would say it could be developed,
- 4:02but it, it is locked inside of you.
- 4:06I would say, are we going to take a look at this, this clip from Jeremy and
- 4:10him just describing what he's come out of.
- 4:12And then also that determination he had and getting off the drugs,
- 4:17which was one of the toughest part for him.
- 4:19Yeah. You know what I mean? Again, like I said, what's the alternative?
- 4:22Yeah, this sucks, but Like, so does a cold plunge, and so does this,
- 4:25and so does that, and so does that.
- 4:26You've got to really test. We've got to test our bodies, our limits,
- 4:29to really have real growth. And especially in recovery, you have to.
- 4:33What else are you going to do, man? You're going to take pills? Right.
- 4:37That was, again, one of the harder things, worse than the accident as well,
- 4:40is getting off OxyContin.
- 4:42And I got off pretty quickly. And like, that's gnarly stuff, man.
- 4:45I'm glad it was there for, you know, the pain for me. But like,
- 4:50I wanted to get off it as soon as possible. So, cause it's highly, highly addictive.
- 4:54And coming off that stuff was gnarly. It's so hard.
- 4:57And not everybody has to go through something like this, but this could happen
- 5:02to anybody, you know, a traumatic event like this could happen to anybody.
- 5:06And I would say, whatever you're going through right now, just know that you
- 5:11have it in you to go out there and get it done.
- 5:14I sometimes, because I fall into the trap myself where I'm always,
- 5:18que sera, sera, what will be, will be. God is in control. Nothing.
- 5:23I have really no power. And this is like the diametric opposite of what Joe Rogan considers it.
- 5:30Because I've listened to Joe Rogan and he is not about letting things just happen,
- 5:34but making things happen.
- 5:37So in your own life, are you making things happen or are you letting life hit
- 5:42you in the face? It's so easy.
- 5:44It's so much easier said than done that I'm going to go out there and get it.
- 5:47I'm going to go out there and hunt. I'm going to make my own way as opposed
- 5:51to just floating through life because it's so simple, so easy to float through
- 5:57life and just let whatever happens happens.
- 6:00And I would say he, he touches on cold plunging.
- 6:04I've got into a little bit of that, not necessarily the getting like actually
- 6:10dunking myself, but doing cold showers.
- 6:13And I would say that itself. And that's why I really, I want to go out there.
- 6:17I would, I want to go out and actually jump in, you know, Lake Michigan and
- 6:20all that, you know, when it's December, because people do that,
- 6:25you know, it's in the same thing goes for working out, working out and cold plunging.
- 6:29You're putting yourself, your body in just strenuous places because it makes
- 6:34the rest of the day almost seem easy.
- 6:37You almost got to fake your body, trick your body because you have something
- 6:41in you that is greater than you, then you could even it's mind over matter.
- 6:45Your mind is stronger than you even have any idea or understand.
- 6:51And I think Jeremy going through this, because this has been a road,
- 6:55a long road to recovery, because this happened over two years ago,
- 7:00and just the things that he just went through, because everything was just crushed
- 7:04under this whole snowplow, and it is gruesome at times what he talks about.
- 7:09If you listen to the podcast, and I put a link there in the description,
- 7:13but I would say what he has gone through has made him, I don't know if he would
- 7:17wish to wish it to happen again, you know, wish it to have happened if he could
- 7:21do it all over again, but it's definitely changed his life.
- 7:24It's definitely shown him how strong he is, you know, and I almost want to get across to you.
- 7:31Don't wait till something traumatic or devastating happens to understand that
- 7:36you have it in you now to actually go out there and get whatever it is you want.
- 7:41If you want to make it happen. Go out and make it happen. You have it in you.
- 7:45And it's putting yourself over and over tough, tough situations,
- 7:49whether that's working out, whether that's doing cold plunge,
- 7:53because that like the what I have done of doing like cold showers, it definitely is tough.
- 7:59It's very tough because it puts your body in a terrible it doesn't like it.
- 8:04You don't naturally like it, but you feel so much better after you've done it.
- 8:09And Joe Rogan, he talks about that as well, doing cold plunges.
- 8:13Joe Rogan, there's so many things about him that are just incredible.
- 8:18And it's awesome that he talks, he's always about working out,
- 8:22just driving at his body and pushing his body to the limits because he knows
- 8:28that he doesn't get a big head.
- 8:30He purposely just beats his body down. And that goes into the.
- 8:37Into biblical. You know, it's Paul the apostle talked about, I beat my body.
- 8:42I buffet my body so that, you know, my body is not the master of me, but I'm the master of it.
- 8:48You know, your will, what you have inside, that's really you.
- 8:52You can say your body is you to an extent, but you're who you are inside your spirit and your soul.
- 8:58That is really you. And it is mind over matter.
- 9:02It is stronger than your body could ever be. So this, this example of what happened
- 9:07to Jeremy, and I'm so glad he has recovered and it's still, it's not, it's not said and done.
- 9:13Nobody has ever arrived. We have not arrived ever in this life. We never will.
- 9:18And that's why it's such, it's so tough at sometimes because I'm always like,
- 9:22I take things so for granted. I get what I'm chasing.
- 9:26And then immediately when I get it, I've reached it.
- 9:30I forget it the next day. I don't even care about that anymore.
- 9:34And I fall into this sad, depressed state of, I want that now. I want that.
- 9:41As opposed to being content with what you have, but also staying hungry.
- 9:46So there's this balance, being content, but also being hungry.
- 9:49There's so many times that I'm just demoralized because I don't have what I
- 9:56want and I forget all the many blessings and things that I have been given already.
- 10:01And whatever I'm chasing right now, I'm going to get to that point and I'm going
- 10:05to be like, I'll have it and I'll just forget about it.
- 10:08Instead of over and over being grateful, giving thanks to God for everything
- 10:13he has given me, as opposed to telling my kids, be thankful, be thankful.
- 10:19And then the next second I'm just complaining and just bitter over what I don't have.
- 10:25It's so easy to complain. It's so easy to not be content.
- 10:29And it's so easy to forget how much strength we have in ourselves and just let
- 10:35the world just hit us in the face.
- 10:36And we become just little thing, little tumbleweeds in this journey that we
- 10:43have life as opposed to going out and making things happen.
- 10:46We have to realize it's within us and then go out and just conquer the world,
- 10:52conquer your day, whatever you're going into.
- 10:54Because you've got power within you and you have no idea the power you have within you.
- 11:02So go out and do it. This Jeremy Renner story, it's a reminder and I hope it's
- 11:07been a blessing to everyone to see in action the mind over matter that this
- 11:12man had and what he's gone through in his daily recovery that he's experienced.
- 11:17So I'll leave that with you. If you like this video, make sure you smash that
