Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:05Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus at the ten yard line. Second to day.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Three wide receivers now in motion as Bumpas left to
- 0:11Speaker 1: write Julius Jones a single setback Matt pumpfecks. Looking at
- 0:14Speaker 1: the goal line, he throws into the end zone. Touchdown,
- 0:17Speaker 1: Saint Hawks. It's Michael Bumpus with a diving catching the
- 0:21Speaker 1: end zone. Our ten yard touchdown reception for Bumpus, and
- 0:25Speaker 1: the kid out of Washington State has found himself a
- 0:29Speaker 1: place on this team. Powered by Seahawks dot Com. Welcome
- 0:33Speaker 1: to another edition of Hawk Talk podcast. This time we're recapping, unfortunately,
- 0:37Speaker 1: the Seahawks loss to the forty nine Ers, dropping a
- 0:39Speaker 1: twenty seven to seven down in Santa Clara. It was
- 0:42Speaker 1: not a great game for the Seahawks. Couldn't really get
- 0:45Speaker 1: things going offensively, defensively, it was a tough matchup all
- 0:48Speaker 1: the way around. I'm about to be joined by my
- 0:50Speaker 1: co host, Michael Bumpus to tell you what had happened.
- 0:54Speaker 1: See what had happened at first look? What had happened
- 0:58Speaker 1: was unhawked um Man, Yeah, I was at home. Kind
- 1:05Speaker 1: of my feelings a little bit after the game, cutting
- 1:07Speaker 1: up post game sound, and I was just thinking, man,
- 1:09Speaker 1: Mama said, there be days like this, you know what
- 1:11Speaker 1: I'm saying. That's just all I can think about, because
- 1:13Speaker 1: it was just one of those games. Man. The Seahawks
- 1:15Speaker 1: did not play their best football. It was a tough
- 1:17Speaker 1: matchup against a young team coming off one of the
- 1:20Speaker 1: biggest wins in terms of just pure emotion. And then
- 1:23Speaker 1: now going to your first road game, is that collective
- 1:26Speaker 1: unit going down to Santa Clair and playing a good
- 1:28Speaker 1: for the Niners team. We knew that defense was gonna
- 1:30Speaker 1: be legit, and it was just a tough matchup, and
- 1:33Speaker 1: things just didn't go to the Hawks way. Now, didn't
- 1:36Speaker 1: go to hawkway, and it happened in the open and drive. Man,
- 1:39Speaker 1: the Niners go eleven play seven to three yards, but
- 1:41Speaker 1: they settled for a field goal. Then the Seahawks get
- 1:43Speaker 1: the ball and they punt and the Niners going another
- 1:46Speaker 1: long drive, seven play seventy four yards against settling for three.
- 1:49Speaker 1: That was early in that game. You saw the Niners
- 1:51Speaker 1: putting drives together and selling for field goals. You're like, okay,
- 1:55Speaker 1: eventually the Seahawks are gonna get things going and then
- 1:58Speaker 1: the inevitable will happen. I feel like with Trey Lance,
- 2:01Speaker 1: the way they were running this young man, you felt
- 2:03Speaker 1: like eventually he was going to get hurt. He didn't
- 2:06Speaker 1: seem like a runner. He said he could run, but
- 2:08Speaker 1: not necessarily a runner. And that's what happened. Man. He
- 2:12Speaker 1: broke his ankle and he's gonna have to have an
- 2:14Speaker 1: end ending season surgery. And as always, we never wish
- 2:19Speaker 1: bad on anybody, man, so prayers up to Lance. Yeah,
- 2:22Speaker 1: it's a hard thing to see. I mean, you feel
- 2:23Speaker 1: bad for the kid, especially given what the Fort Dyer's
- 2:26Speaker 1: game gave up for him. All the pressure going into
- 2:28Speaker 1: this season for Trey Lance. And we talked about a
- 2:31Speaker 1: little bit on the pregame show. I know Robert Turbin
- 2:33Speaker 1: Turbo was talking about how he was concerned, you know,
- 2:36Speaker 1: because they do these QB powers and it's not just
- 2:38Speaker 1: scrambling their design. QB runs on the interior, you know
- 2:42Speaker 1: what I mean. And it wasn't like he got fifty
- 2:44Speaker 1: carries in that game. Obviously we didn't get there, so
- 2:46Speaker 1: I think it was the third carry of the game
- 2:47Speaker 1: maybe by the time he got hurt. So definitely don't
- 2:50Speaker 1: want to see that for Trey Lance. But another thing,
- 2:52Speaker 1: when we saw that injury happen, we all looked at
- 2:54Speaker 1: each other and we're like, oh, because you know what
- 2:57Speaker 1: Jimmy G can do. And the Seahawks have had his
- 2:59Speaker 1: number since he's been in San Francisco, but we know
- 3:02Speaker 1: what he's capable of. And when you prepare all week,
- 3:05Speaker 1: you know this as a coach. You prepare all week
- 3:07Speaker 1: to see one quarterback, and you have all your calls
- 3:09Speaker 1: and your looks, and you prepare for a Trey Lance.
- 3:11Speaker 1: And then you get at Jimmy G who's a completely
- 3:13Speaker 1: different player that definitely is gonna throw things off a bit.
- 3:16Speaker 1: And when Jimmy G got int the ball game bump,
- 3:18Speaker 1: that's when things really got going. Yeah, I got going
- 3:21Speaker 1: to look different. Man. I've never been more afraid of
- 3:23Speaker 1: a backup quarterback than the actual starter. With Trey Lance,
- 3:25Speaker 1: he felt like, Okay, he's young, this playboff is gonna
- 3:28Speaker 1: be limited. Jimmy comes in, what does he do for play?
- 3:30Speaker 1: Seventy eight yards, gets ross welly wide open, making a
- 3:34Speaker 1: score thirteen to zero, and you felt the energy kind
- 3:37Speaker 1: of changed with the forty nine ers. I think a
- 3:39Speaker 1: lot of these players wanted Jimmy to be in this
- 3:41Speaker 1: game anyway. So once he was in, it was like
- 3:44Speaker 1: they were rejuven it. And then Gino Smith gets intercepted
- 3:47Speaker 1: on the next drive, but the defense holds again and
- 3:50Speaker 1: the forty nine has turned the ball over. So there's
- 3:53Speaker 1: like opportunities, there were opportunities in this game for the
- 3:56Speaker 1: Seacotts to kind of take it over. Right, the forty
- 3:57Speaker 1: nine ers didn't necessarily put them away until later in
- 3:59Speaker 1: that game. Yeah, you're right. I mean, after that sequence
- 4:03Speaker 1: you just talked about, you thought the Seahoffs were finally
- 4:05Speaker 1: in business. Right, they get they get the football, they
- 4:08Speaker 1: run before they run that krit trick play, Gino's intercepted,
- 4:11Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, and the Seahows gets the
- 4:13Speaker 1: ball back that flee flicker, So let's talk about that
- 4:16Speaker 1: for a little bit, not even really fleeflicker throwback. So
- 4:18Speaker 1: Shane Walden drives up a beautiful play handoff to Ken Walker.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Ken Walker tosses back to Gino Smith. Gino Smith finds
- 4:25Speaker 1: DK for a forty nine yard reception. A huge play,
- 4:28Speaker 1: huge play. Okay, boom, there's a momentum. We need illegal
- 4:31Speaker 1: lineman downfield. Think they got Abe Lucas on that, which
- 4:34Speaker 1: is a tough play. If Ray was here, he would
- 4:35Speaker 1: tell us about you're engaged with a guy and you're
- 4:38Speaker 1: driving him back, and then you know the NFL's emphasizing
- 4:42Speaker 1: that rule this year. Is lineman downfield. It's a hard
- 4:45Speaker 1: two yards. It seemed like he might have drifted a
- 4:47Speaker 1: little past at it. It's a really tough call, and
- 4:49Speaker 1: it's really disappointing because has nothing to do with the play.
- 4:52Speaker 1: It's on the backside. That guy was nowhere near the play,
- 4:54Speaker 1: so that's tough. Then the seaofs get down in the
- 4:57Speaker 1: red zone. You're thinking, Okay, here we go. They got
- 5:00Speaker 1: over the Geno interception because it got called back. And
- 5:03Speaker 1: then we see the four running back formation bump, which
- 5:06Speaker 1: I love, which I love, and I know it's getting
- 5:08Speaker 1: a ton of you right now. And it's tough because
- 5:11Speaker 1: they're only in it for a couple of possessions or
- 5:13Speaker 1: a couple of plays, and there's just so many things
- 5:15Speaker 1: you can do off it. Ken Walker did that a
- 5:17Speaker 1: bunch of Michigan states, so there's full confidence in him
- 5:19Speaker 1: that he can do that. He can call the plays,
- 5:21Speaker 1: he can get everybody lined up. There's so many different
- 5:23Speaker 1: things he can do off that the zone read you
- 5:25Speaker 1: have an option. Look, well, when the Seahawks ran it,
- 5:28Speaker 1: they give to DJ Dallas and I think there's a
- 5:31Speaker 1: lot going on. DJ's excited. DK Metcalf runs kind of
- 5:35Speaker 1: a stutter go and then DJ just unfortunately, who played
- 5:38Speaker 1: some quarterback. It's not like he can't throw the football.
- 5:41Speaker 1: I think it's just a rainy, wet day. The game
- 5:43Speaker 1: speeds up when you A lot happened. Unfortunately, DJ was
- 5:46Speaker 1: intercepted in the end zone and that was the Seahawks
- 5:48Speaker 1: best opportunity to score, and then things really went downhill
- 5:51Speaker 1: from there. Yeah, Phil bad for DJ. You know, he
- 5:54Speaker 1: can make that throw nine times that out of ten. Man,
- 5:56Speaker 1: it just kind of got away from a little bit.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Then after that it gets a little worse. Xavier Crawford
- 6:01Speaker 1: was blocked into title locket while he was trying to
- 6:03Speaker 1: field a punt. That is a muff. Niners get great
- 6:06Speaker 1: field position. Three plays later, they scored Kyle Euschek one
- 6:09Speaker 1: yard touchdown, making the score twenty zero at halftime. Now
- 6:12Speaker 1: you're down twenty to zero. I've heard there's a lot
- 6:13Speaker 1: of people say, why didn't they run the ball more?
- 6:16Speaker 1: Do this and that? You're down twenty zero. Again, it's
- 6:18Speaker 1: a very good defense. You have to throw the football.
- 6:22Speaker 1: That's exactly what they did, just couldn't really get a
- 6:25Speaker 1: nice flow going there in the second half. Yeah, it's
- 6:27Speaker 1: really hard. Anytime you look at total plays, if you're
- 6:30Speaker 1: under fifty plays in the National Football League, that's really
- 6:32Speaker 1: hard to win a football game. Yeah, at the end
- 6:34Speaker 1: of the Broncos game, the Seahawks only had three legit
- 6:37Speaker 1: possessions in the second half, and it was essentially the
- 6:39Speaker 1: same this game against the forty nine ers. When you're
- 6:41Speaker 1: dow twenties zero, you're hoping they'd come out of the
- 6:43Speaker 1: locker room and get things going on that first drive,
- 6:45Speaker 1: but then Joey Bose would make some plays, then you're
- 6:47Speaker 1: behind the sticks again. And I think this offense can
- 6:51Speaker 1: be incredibly explosive and can be really good. We have
- 6:53Speaker 1: we've only seen a small part tip of the iceberg
- 6:57Speaker 1: in terms of their potential. But as of right now,
- 6:59Speaker 1: they're wrong. Suit is not from playing from behind. It's
- 7:02Speaker 1: not when you're down twenty zero and you gotta throw
- 7:04Speaker 1: the ball a million times, and it's unfortunate because you
- 7:06Speaker 1: don't get you don't get Rashad Penny involved in the
- 7:09Speaker 1: game the way you'd want to. You don't get Ken
- 7:10Speaker 1: Walker involved in the game you want to obviously, you
- 7:13Speaker 1: know that's a big part of what he wants to do,
- 7:14Speaker 1: a big part of what Chane Waldron wants to do.
- 7:16Speaker 1: So it was tough, but there was a bright spot
- 7:19Speaker 1: in that football game. What happened. Yes, there was a
- 7:22Speaker 1: bright spot. Man. You got Tarek Woolling and Mike Jackson
- 7:25Speaker 1: combining for the biggest player of the years so far.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Trek Woolling man block the field goal. Mike Jackson man
- 7:30Speaker 1: the most fortunate man in the NFL right now. It's
- 7:32Speaker 1: two couple recoveris in Week one, got a scoop and
- 7:35Speaker 1: score Mike excuse me, three Wooling blocks of Mike jack
- 7:38Speaker 1: scoops it up eighty six yards touchdown and you know what,
- 7:41Speaker 1: and he didn't take a playoff. He was back out
- 7:43Speaker 1: there own defense. Oh of course I love Mike Jackson, man.
- 7:45Speaker 1: I love both of those guys. I love the rookies
- 7:47Speaker 1: or yeah, Tarrek the rookie and Mike Jackson the second year,
- 7:50Speaker 1: your third year player. But he's just making a ton
- 7:52Speaker 1: of plays. We fell in love with him in the
- 7:53Speaker 1: preseason and he's just balling out, so so good to see.
- 7:56Speaker 1: But overall bump. When you look at the box score, man,
- 7:59Speaker 1: it's hard to win for ball games. When you look
- 8:00Speaker 1: at the box score for the Seahawks, forty nine Ers
- 8:02Speaker 1: dominated time in possession thirty eight twenty to twenty one.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Forty forty nine Ers had twenty five first down to
- 8:08Speaker 1: the Seahawks fourteam and the Seahawks turn the ball over
- 8:11Speaker 1: three times and for Niners into it once. It's really
- 8:13Speaker 1: hard to win football game that way. But yeah, man,
- 8:16Speaker 1: you gotta take care of the football. You gotta possess
- 8:17Speaker 1: the football. If you're turning the football over and you're
- 8:20Speaker 1: not controlling it, then you're not control of the football game.
- 8:23Speaker 1: And that's what the Niners did. They pretty much controlled
- 8:26Speaker 1: the football game. Man. The Seahawks were penalized also ten
- 8:29Speaker 1: times for one hundred and six yards, the forty nine
- 8:31Speaker 1: Ers just one for twenty six. Now, he carols the
- 8:33Speaker 1: head coach, he's not gonna come out and say, maybe
- 8:36Speaker 1: there's something going on with the refee. I've never been
- 8:38Speaker 1: in a game, senior game where it's heavy penalize on
- 8:42Speaker 1: one side, harley on the other side. I know, the
- 8:45Speaker 1: referees have a tough job. I get it, but there
- 8:47Speaker 1: are some calls that were suspect one call. Are a
- 8:50Speaker 1: couple calls that baffled me a little bit. Are the
- 8:54Speaker 1: uncatchable balls grown to receivers. But if the receiver just
- 8:57Speaker 1: makes an attempt to go after the football, then it's
- 8:59Speaker 1: an automat PI. That's tough on the DV. You gotta
- 9:02Speaker 1: play Daniel perfect football in that position to not get
- 9:05Speaker 1: that called on you. Yeah, it's one of those things
- 9:07Speaker 1: where you wonder, it's like, man, I guess in that game,
- 9:10Speaker 1: it's like, well, I guess the Seahawks had just done
- 9:12Speaker 1: the same thing and just ran DK down the field
- 9:14Speaker 1: and then throw a bomb up there and hope, you know,
- 9:17Speaker 1: to get a penalty. Obviously that's not a game plan,
- 9:19Speaker 1: but the way it was being called was regard any
- 9:21Speaker 1: time it's ten to one, and it's it's frustrating because
- 9:24Speaker 1: they were all on third downs. It felt like every
- 9:26Speaker 1: big penalty Seahawks not was on a third down or
- 9:28Speaker 1: a big play that nullified it. And when you can't
- 9:30Speaker 1: get off the field, that's why the time possession was
- 9:32Speaker 1: so lopsided. So well, that was tough Hopefully the Seahawks
- 9:36Speaker 1: didn't get it turned around this week when to take
- 9:38Speaker 1: on the Atlanta Falcons. The Seahawks will get their rematch
- 9:41Speaker 1: against those forty nine ers in December on Thursday Night
- 9:44Speaker 1: Football Bump. It wasn't a great day out there overall,
- 9:47Speaker 1: but there was some playmakers. Playmakers all right. Tyler Lockett
- 10:03Speaker 1: man the biggest playmaker on office honestly, other than Gmail
- 10:06Speaker 1: taking care of the football. I mean, he had nine
- 10:08Speaker 1: receptions for one hundred and seven yards on eleven targets.
- 10:11Speaker 1: That was the sixteenth game for the Seahawks with a
- 10:14Speaker 1: hundred yards man, and he got going. We saw a
- 10:17Speaker 1: little bit of everything. We saw the underneath stuff, we
- 10:20Speaker 1: saw the intermediate and then we saw a long twenty
- 10:22Speaker 1: seven thirty yard game on a scramble from Gino to
- 10:25Speaker 1: Tyler Lockett. We also saw him back back into the
- 10:28Speaker 1: punt return game, and I hear this is something that
- 10:29Speaker 1: he wanted to do. He wanted to get back there
- 10:32Speaker 1: and return punts. Just another example of the captain trying
- 10:35Speaker 1: to do as much as he can for his football team.
- 10:37Speaker 1: It's nice to see Tyler having a hundred yard game.
- 10:39Speaker 1: He has one hundred and thirty five yards on the
- 10:41Speaker 1: season so far, and for this office to go, obviously
- 10:44Speaker 1: the runs gotta go, but pasket hasket going to and
- 10:47Speaker 1: Tyler Locke is leading away. Absolutely, Tyler Lockett. That that's
- 10:50Speaker 1: just Tyler Locket. Man. When you see he's a mister
- 10:52Speaker 1: efficient team. Nine receptions on eleven targets. There's gonna be
- 10:55Speaker 1: a ton of games this year where every time he's
- 10:57Speaker 1: targeted he catches the football. That's just Tyler Locket. It's
- 11:00Speaker 1: mister consistency. I love to see him back there on punts.
- 11:03Speaker 1: I know there's a lot of questions around what happened
- 11:05Speaker 1: on that muff punt situation, and that's that's on your
- 11:09Speaker 1: punt return team. Tyler Lockett, you can speak to this
- 11:11Speaker 1: more than anyone bump. As a returner, you can only
- 11:13Speaker 1: focus on the football, you know what I'm saying. You're
- 11:15Speaker 1: doing your job. You can't try to yell and tell
- 11:17Speaker 1: people to you know, get away. You can't rely on
- 11:20Speaker 1: Peter calls from the sideline. This is in high school.
- 11:22Speaker 1: It's loud during an NFL play. But anyway, I love
- 11:25Speaker 1: to see. I love to see Tyler back out there
- 11:27Speaker 1: because he's most sure handed dude, and people forget. I
- 11:30Speaker 1: mean maybe they don't, but it's been a while. Oh
- 11:32Speaker 1: Lockett went to the Pro Bowl for his return game.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Yes he did, ye, yes he did. Love to see
- 11:36Speaker 1: that from Lockett. On defense, Jordan Brooks, Cody Barring inside
- 11:40Speaker 1: linebackers making a ton of tackles. We're going to see
- 11:42Speaker 1: this all throughout the season. Jordan Brooks had another day
- 11:44Speaker 1: of double digit tackles, had eleven in the game yesterday.
- 11:47Speaker 1: That was a twelfth career game with ten plus tackles
- 11:49Speaker 1: since twenty twenty one, which is third in the National
- 11:51Speaker 1: Football League in that time. Cody Borton also finished the
- 11:54Speaker 1: game with eleven tackles. And I think again, I think
- 11:57Speaker 1: there's so much room as good as if those guys
- 11:59Speaker 1: are going to be either, so much room for them
- 12:00Speaker 1: to grow, especially when you're playing in that three four defense.
- 12:04Speaker 1: It's hard when you're playing team like San Francisco, they
- 12:06Speaker 1: are so a lot of people call it window dressing,
- 12:09Speaker 1: but there's so much false reads and pulls in motion
- 12:12Speaker 1: like you have to be on and every single person
- 12:14Speaker 1: in that front seven has to be communicating. If your
- 12:17Speaker 1: job to get the edge, of your job to get
- 12:18Speaker 1: the edge, if it's your job to get hands on
- 12:20Speaker 1: guards and stuff because those guys get to the second level.
- 12:22Speaker 1: So Jordan Brooks Cody Barton were definitely fighting through that
- 12:24Speaker 1: a lot against the forty nine ers. So I love
- 12:27Speaker 1: to watch them and grow and continue, and hopefully when
- 12:29Speaker 1: they match up against the forty nine ers again in December,
- 12:32Speaker 1: it will look a lot deep different from their perspective.
- 12:35Speaker 1: You know, it was a nice physical game. Yes they
- 12:37Speaker 1: lost the game. Yes he felt like the Niners were
- 12:40Speaker 1: able to run that football, But what they gain from
- 12:42Speaker 1: that game is not going to be seen in the
- 12:44Speaker 1: box scores, right, and you're gonna learn how to attack
- 12:48Speaker 1: a pulling guard or a pulling tackle when they're trying
- 12:50Speaker 1: to get up to that second level. So yeah, lots
- 12:51Speaker 1: of pressure on them in that running game, but they
- 12:54Speaker 1: will live and they will learn lots of tackles from them.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Much in the Wolves who also stit on Man, He's
- 12:58Speaker 1: been consistent so far on what week one to week two,
- 13:02Speaker 1: he's probably been the most consistent defender four the Seattle Sealls.
- 13:05Speaker 1: He had four tackles, one pass to defend him in
- 13:08Speaker 1: three quarterback hits. Again, a lot of what he does
- 13:10Speaker 1: isn't gonna be seen there were many times where they
- 13:12Speaker 1: were trying to bounce the ball outside. He fortunate insights
- 13:15Speaker 1: where he knew his help was that he got his
- 13:17Speaker 1: hand on the full ball, got three quarterback hits, did
- 13:19Speaker 1: it legally too, no penalties. You know a heart that
- 13:21Speaker 1: is hitting the quarterbacks and not getting penalties. And Hinna
- 13:24Speaker 1: plays with a speed in a passion that I love.
- 13:27Speaker 1: And even when the game was over, the game was
- 13:29Speaker 1: pretty much decided in the fourth quarter with a few
- 13:31Speaker 1: minutes left, he's still going hard. He's still talking like
- 13:34Speaker 1: it's the first quarter. He has low key been one
- 13:37Speaker 1: of the best pickups in the NFL this year. During
- 13:39Speaker 1: the offseason, no question about it. I was super excited
- 13:41Speaker 1: when I knew we were signing in New Chenna, just
- 13:43Speaker 1: from what he did for the Chargers last year. And
- 13:45Speaker 1: we've seen it every single day out here at practice.
- 13:47Speaker 1: We saw it limited action in the preseason. In these
- 13:49Speaker 1: two games, he's just active. That's what I love about it.
- 13:51Speaker 1: He's a disruptor. He's gonna get pressure on. He's got
- 13:54Speaker 1: good bill, he can set the edge when run, but
- 13:57Speaker 1: plays his way. He can drop out in coverage, he
- 13:59Speaker 1: can get out of the quarter. So Uchen is kind
- 14:01Speaker 1: of the jack of all trades, and he's gonna be,
- 14:03Speaker 1: you know, one of the unsing heroes. Unsung heroes for
- 14:05Speaker 1: this defense. I think as the season goes on and
- 14:07Speaker 1: then Bump, we mentioned it a little bit, we're gonna
- 14:09Speaker 1: get into specifically the play that Michael Jackson and Treke
- 14:11Speaker 1: Willing made. But those two guys, I mean, we can't
- 14:14Speaker 1: say enough about him. I mean, we're gonna keep talking
- 14:16Speaker 1: about them all season. We know Turbo is all about
- 14:19Speaker 1: his guy trerequ trying to get him the game MVP.
- 14:21Speaker 1: If you're listening to the Seahaws post game show, you
- 14:24Speaker 1: can catch all those segments on the Seahawks three one podcast.
- 14:26Speaker 1: But those guys just continue to make plays, and I
- 14:28Speaker 1: love that they're never the reason something is happening poorly,
- 14:34Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. They're they're never like, oh man,
- 14:35Speaker 1: they're not keeping guys in front, oh man, They're never
- 14:38Speaker 1: there and rent support. They're they're guys that are that
- 14:40Speaker 1: are kind of learning through it. This is the most
- 14:42Speaker 1: that they've played ever, you know what I'm saying, And
- 14:44Speaker 1: they're kind of learning through as every game goes on,
- 14:47Speaker 1: and I think they're getting better week to week from
- 14:49Speaker 1: the box score standpoint. Michael Jackson had six tackles in
- 14:52Speaker 1: the game. Trek added three, so they're still being active
- 14:55Speaker 1: making play. So love to see that bump. Now, not
- 14:58Speaker 1: a lot to talk about this next segment, but tell
- 15:01Speaker 1: us about the wide receiver round up. You mentioned Tyler Lockett,
- 15:04Speaker 1: but not a ton of production elsewhere, especially from receivers.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Now it was Tyler Lockett man nine for one oh
- 15:11Speaker 1: seven on eleven targets, nine catches, dk metcalf got to
- 15:15Speaker 1: find a way to get him more involved in his offense.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Pete Carroll talked about that on his pressure today. Six targets,
- 15:21Speaker 1: four receptions, thirty five yards, had a big forty nine
- 15:24Speaker 1: yard game called back at a long twelve got Travis
- 15:27Speaker 1: Homer had four catches for thirty three yards lost to
- 15:30Speaker 1: check Checkdownalds there along as seventeen got no offense two
- 15:33Speaker 1: for eleven, d Eskars one for six and then Kenneth
- 15:36Speaker 1: Walker two for five. So a little different from last week.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Don't forget Uncle Will had two receptions as well than
- 15:42Speaker 1: gain in the yards, but a little different from last week.
- 15:44Speaker 1: We saw the tight ends get more evolved involved. We
- 15:47Speaker 1: saw the receivers get some shots there. Tyler Lockett led
- 15:51Speaker 1: the way something that you want to see now, It's like,
- 15:54Speaker 1: can you combine week one with week two as far
- 15:57Speaker 1: as the targets in the receptions and then throwing number
- 15:59Speaker 1: fourteen because he's he's due for game two weeks now.
- 16:02Speaker 1: He hasn't really had his game yet. It's talked to
- 16:04Speaker 1: him to shine, no question about it. And I think
- 16:06Speaker 1: when Gino talked about in this postgame press conference that
- 16:08Speaker 1: teams are doubling him, teams are doubling DK. They're trying
- 16:12Speaker 1: to take him away. That is their focal point, you know,
- 16:14Speaker 1: from a receiver standpoint. So what I want to see
- 16:17Speaker 1: moving forward obviously Tyler's Tyler. You're not gonna contain both
- 16:20Speaker 1: of them. One of them is typically going to have
- 16:22Speaker 1: a game that they're around over one hundred yards, you know,
- 16:24Speaker 1: eight plus receptions, So we need to get DK more involved.
- 16:28Speaker 1: And I also want to see Marquis Goodwin because what
- 16:30Speaker 1: hasn't really been talked about is he's really emerged is
- 16:32Speaker 1: that third receiver option. Just from the standpoint of looking
- 16:36Speaker 1: at snap counts, he's the one other after DK and Tyler.
- 16:40Speaker 1: Marquis Goodwin is getting a vast majority more of the
- 16:43Speaker 1: reps at receiver over Penny Hard over Drake One wasn't active,
- 16:49Speaker 1: but also over you know, some of the other receivers
- 16:51Speaker 1: in that room. So I really want to see Marquis
- 16:53Speaker 1: get involved. We know he's a good football player. We
- 16:55Speaker 1: know we can take the top off the defense. So
- 16:57Speaker 1: it'll be good to see there now almost getting the
- 17:00Speaker 1: coach's corner man. This is one of the really one
- 17:03Speaker 1: of the best plays that we got to see. There
- 17:05Speaker 1: wasn't a lot of positive action. Obviously there's guys fighting hard,
- 17:08Speaker 1: but this play we've been mentioning in all podcasts. Tariq
- 17:10Speaker 1: Woolen blocks the field goal, Michael Jackson picks it up,
- 17:13Speaker 1: runs it back eighty six yards before a touchdown. He
- 17:16Speaker 1: has one of twenty and one of thirty three already.
- 17:19Speaker 1: There's a snap and it's blocked. I think if Tariq
- 17:22Speaker 1: one coming the other way, sprinting down the near sideline,
- 17:25Speaker 1: Michael Jackson, they're not gonna get him. Forty thirty hand
- 17:29Speaker 1: goes up ten five touchdowns Seahawks. What a play. Woolen
- 17:36Speaker 1: blocks it, Jackson picks it up and goes about eighty
- 17:40Speaker 1: yards with it for a touchdown, and the Seahawks are
- 17:44Speaker 1: finally on the board with an incredible play by the
- 17:47Speaker 1: special teams. Tarik Woolen with all that speed and length
- 17:51Speaker 1: off the corner, got there to knock it down and
- 17:55Speaker 1: Michael Jackson picked it up and was off to the races.
- 17:59Speaker 1: On how big play is this gonna spark the Seahawks?
- 18:03Speaker 1: As Myers comes on for the pah it is twenty
- 18:06Speaker 1: to six. Man, just a great individual effort by Terrick
- 18:13Speaker 1: Willing there, he's the guy in the far end getting around.
- 18:16Speaker 1: I believe that's well. A number eighteen usually put and
- 18:18Speaker 1: the number eighty two, excuse me, usually put your tight
- 18:21Speaker 1: ends on the edges there because they're used to playing
- 18:24Speaker 1: on the edge of the line of scrimmage, nice and
- 18:27Speaker 1: tighter around the corner. And then, man, this guy's sixty
- 18:29Speaker 1: three sixty four, I mean long arms. I want to say,
- 18:31Speaker 1: I don't know how long his winning span is, but
- 18:33Speaker 1: I'm just gonna say, hello, that's yeah, Mike Jackson being
- 18:37Speaker 1: on the right right place at the right time once
- 18:40Speaker 1: again scoops and scores. But thankfully, Nasa Chovia, you've actually
- 18:44Speaker 1: been in this position before. I've never been on field
- 18:46Speaker 1: goal block. I've never been on field goal team. I
- 18:49Speaker 1: can only break you down as I watch it on film.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Man walk the people through what is life? Well, we'll
- 18:53Speaker 1: start on the San Francisco side. When you're that end
- 18:56Speaker 1: man on the line of scrimmage, right, anyone on field
- 18:58Speaker 1: goal block, the shortest route to the football is on
- 19:01Speaker 1: the inside. So when you take your steps, you want
- 19:03Speaker 1: to you're with you. If you're on the tight end
- 19:06Speaker 1: for the forty nine ers is on the play side
- 19:08Speaker 1: of the left. So your first step you want to
- 19:10Speaker 1: lean inside because you want to take away the first
- 19:12Speaker 1: threat inside because the closest route to the football is
- 19:15Speaker 1: from your inside. And then with the guy rushing on
- 19:17Speaker 1: the outside, you just want to get just at least
- 19:19Speaker 1: a hand on them to widen that edge. You don't
- 19:22Speaker 1: need to blow him up, you don't need any of that.
- 19:24Speaker 1: You just need to widen that edge. Now, when you
- 19:26Speaker 1: got a freak athlete like Dregue Willing on the other
- 19:28Speaker 1: side of you, you might need to do a little
- 19:30Speaker 1: bit more because you said, this guy's sixty three, he's
- 19:32Speaker 1: got tremendous bursts in speed and he blocks this from
- 19:36Speaker 1: far away. Most guys, I mean, throughout the league aren't
- 19:39Speaker 1: getting close to this to block him this, but he
- 19:42Speaker 1: does a great job of getting that lean and getting
- 19:44Speaker 1: tight and from a rush standpoint, you want to turn
- 19:46Speaker 1: that corner. You want to dip. It's almost like a
- 19:48Speaker 1: pass rush. When you're coming underneath and you rip underneath,
- 19:50Speaker 1: you want to take that inside shoulder, get as low
- 19:53Speaker 1: as you can and just come around the corner as
- 19:55Speaker 1: fast as possible. And that's exactly what happened. So if
- 19:58Speaker 1: you're watching this in the San Francisco film room, I
- 20:01Speaker 1: think the teaching tape would be to try to get
- 20:03Speaker 1: a little bit more of a hand and your outside hand.
- 20:05Speaker 1: It's got to be a punch if you can get
- 20:07Speaker 1: at least a punch, because if you knock that guy
- 20:09Speaker 1: off even just a little bit. Guys are so good
- 20:12Speaker 1: in the NFL of getting the snap to hold the
- 20:14Speaker 1: kick and butt. Tariku Won is a different kind of dude.
- 20:18Speaker 1: And you know, I love this also because it puts
- 20:21Speaker 1: this on tape now every week when these guys are
- 20:23Speaker 1: in the special teams meeting that tight end or whoever's
- 20:26Speaker 1: on the end, man in line of scrimmage is thinking
- 20:27Speaker 1: about it, like, Okay, I got twenty seven on my side.
- 20:29Speaker 1: I really got to do it right, and if that
- 20:31Speaker 1: continues to happen, if that end man on line of
- 20:33Speaker 1: scrimmage starts getting really concerned with the outside guy, that
- 20:36Speaker 1: leaves another lane for someone to rush from the inside
- 20:39Speaker 1: of the end man on line of scrimmage and get
- 20:41Speaker 1: another block. So it was great to see those two
- 20:44Speaker 1: guys make a play. Tariq Won, you can't teach that
- 20:46Speaker 1: freak athleticism, Mike Jackson, and also shout out to Mike Jackson.
- 20:51Speaker 1: He's not an offensive player, he's not a running back.
- 20:52Speaker 1: But the ball bounces right chew him, but he feels
- 20:55Speaker 1: it cleanly in stride. It's almost like it will play
- 20:57Speaker 1: drawn up. He's on the other side of the line
- 20:59Speaker 1: of scrimma, comes across, looks bounced right to him. He
- 21:02Speaker 1: feels it cleanly, runs it back for a touchdown. So
- 21:05Speaker 1: got to see it and bump. I'm just you know,
- 21:07Speaker 1: hold on off. I'm just glad that kicker didn't run
- 21:09Speaker 1: him down. If that would ran him down, that locker
- 21:12Speaker 1: room would have been all on him. Good job, Mike.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Oh you know that's what he was thinking. When those
- 21:15Speaker 1: legs were getting heavy. He's like, okay, I can't get
- 21:17Speaker 1: tackled by the kicker because yeah, man, especially where that
- 21:19Speaker 1: game was going, can't have that. But yeah, were typically
- 21:23Speaker 1: we're hoping we're getting in that victory formation. Unfortunately this
- 21:26Speaker 1: week clock just ran out a knee taking fire Huntley.
- 21:33Speaker 1: They're just gonna let the clock wind down, but you're
- 21:35Speaker 1: not even gonna bother taking that last time out, all right, man?
- 21:41Speaker 1: The box score set it all for the Seahawks, and
- 21:43Speaker 1: nine has dominated time of possession. You mentioned that earlier
- 21:46Speaker 1: had the ball for thirty eight minutes and twenty seconds
- 21:49Speaker 1: to the Seahawks forty one. Assuse me, twenty one minutes
- 21:51Speaker 1: and forty seconds. Forty yards had twenty five first downs
- 21:55Speaker 1: and the Seahawks had fourteen. That says a lot right there. Right,
- 21:58Speaker 1: you're not moving the ball, so that means you're not
- 22:01Speaker 1: great on third down if you're not getting first downs
- 22:03Speaker 1: and you don't have the full ball, so you are
- 22:06Speaker 1: letting the other team control the pace of the game.
- 22:08Speaker 1: The forty nine ers got ahead and never look back. Yeah,
- 22:12Speaker 1: I mean, just a bad day at the office. There's
- 22:13Speaker 1: not a lot of other ways to say it. It
- 22:15Speaker 1: wasn't one of those games that was so bad where
- 22:17Speaker 1: you're just like, yeah, let's delete the film, We're just
- 22:19Speaker 1: gotta go to the next opponent because we can't get
- 22:21Speaker 1: anything from that. It was a bad day at the office,
- 22:23Speaker 1: but there's a lot of the good teaching tape, I
- 22:24Speaker 1: think from all the young guys to learn, you know,
- 22:27Speaker 1: how to get better. Coaches us off all the way down.
- 22:29Speaker 1: So I think, you know, I think the Sehawks are
- 22:32Speaker 1: gonna get better from this. Obviously you want to get
- 22:33Speaker 1: better and wins, but real lessons get learned on Mondays
- 22:37Speaker 1: that the guys are down there telling the truth today
- 22:39Speaker 1: for sure, So I think people are gonna get a
- 22:41Speaker 1: big dose to that humble pie kind of back on track.
- 22:43Speaker 1: And I think, you know, a young team like this
- 22:46Speaker 1: too is they don't know any better bump, so after
- 22:48Speaker 1: they lose, they're coming right back at it. They're they're
- 22:50Speaker 1: not dwelling Pete Carroll and the coaching staff does a
- 22:53Speaker 1: great job of turning the tide. I will say for
- 22:55Speaker 1: the forty nineer fans, go for you all, man. This
- 22:58Speaker 1: is kind of a rare Monday for you'll only the
- 23:01Speaker 1: third time they beat the Seahawks in the last seventeen games,
- 23:04Speaker 1: So congratulations to everyone down there in Santa Clair in
- 23:08Speaker 1: the Bay area. You got yourself one. Live it up,
- 23:12Speaker 1: Live it up because Hawks is coming back doing a trip.
- 23:15Speaker 1: The Niners ran seventy plays, the Hawks ran forty seven plays.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Again another telling sign that you just weren't really controlling
- 23:21Speaker 1: the game. The Seahawks will penalized ten times. We've talked
- 23:23Speaker 1: about that and the Niners just once. I doubt there
- 23:28Speaker 1: was just one penalty out there for the forty nine ers,
- 23:30Speaker 1: But sometimes it just be like that. Yeah black, we said, mama.
- 23:34Speaker 1: So the three days like this, but the Seahawks are
- 23:37Speaker 1: still one in one tide with everyone else in the
- 23:39Speaker 1: NFC West, so they are in a turn the page.
- 23:42Speaker 1: You got the Atlanta Falcons coming into town. It should
- 23:45Speaker 1: be a fun matchup on Sunday. The pregame gets going
- 23:47Speaker 1: at ten am, kickoff at one twenty five. It should
- 23:51Speaker 1: be a fun matchup. That was the recappetition. The Seahawks
- 23:54Speaker 1: fall to the forty nine Ers twenty seven to seven.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Remember you can catch all of our podcasts on Seahawks
- 23:58Speaker 1: dot com, Apple podcast Us, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Amazon Podcasts,
- 24:03Speaker 1: as well as Series XM. Now. We'll be back with
- 24:06Speaker 1: it on Wednesday as a Seahawks take on the Atlanta
- 24:08Speaker 1: falcons until next time talk to you then
